- 1:31Speaker 3: I think I left my house at seven thirty that
- 1:33Speaker 3: morning to go to Years and I got home at one,
- 1:37Speaker 3: So pretty good in the morning. One in the morning.
- 1:40Speaker 1: Yes, so we bo leak out. You guys went for it.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Really did it? Maybe it was close?
- 1:47Speaker 3: Any fun highlights I don't remember. Honestly, it was really funny.
- 1:51Speaker 3: It went really fast, Like I felt at the end
- 1:54Speaker 3: of the night, I was like, man, I'm tired. I'm surprised,
- 1:57Speaker 3: and I was like, well, it is, you know night
- 2:00Speaker 3: or whatever. It was like, yeah, I guess We've been
- 2:02Speaker 3: to a lot of places. We had really great churos
- 2:06Speaker 3: at Earl Giles cool.
- 2:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I remember you say you're going to go there.
- 2:11Speaker 3: It's like a distillery play super cool vibe in there.
- 2:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:16Speaker 3: Everyone was great. We had fun.
- 2:18Speaker 1: We saw Dan Restrom out and about, which was great,
- 2:21Speaker 1: just just hanging out random. It was random.
- 2:25Speaker 3: Our buddy Laz was hanging out. He knew of the event,
- 2:30Speaker 3: so that wasn't as big as Pries, but still a treat. Yeah,
- 2:33Speaker 3: of course, yeah, Magan cakele it was great. It was
- 2:37Speaker 3: a fun time.
- 2:37Speaker 1: Oh she did come out. Yeah, yeah, she came out
- 2:39Speaker 1: for the first.
- 2:39Speaker 3: One because we started sort of over there.
- 2:41Speaker 1: So super fun.
- 2:43Speaker 3: We got to talk about your kids being great at piano.
- 2:45Speaker 1: It was fun. Oh that's fun.
- 2:47Speaker 3: Yeah, it was great, dude. It was a lovely day,
- 2:49Speaker 3: a really nice day. What else did you do that?
- 2:52Speaker 1: Well, we went to the Loons game the Minnesota United,
- 2:57Speaker 1: our soccer club here in Minnesota, and it was It
- 3:02Speaker 1: was pretty pretty great. I wish it would have been
- 3:05Speaker 1: about ten degrees warmer. It was a little chili stay.
- 3:08Speaker 1: It was on the chillier side, so we we prepared though,
- 3:11Speaker 1: and I went and bought some hand warmers so we
- 3:14Speaker 1: had a few of those on hand. The Loon scored twice,
- 3:19Speaker 1: which was very exciting.
- 3:21Speaker 3: I saw that they tied right they drew.
- 3:24Speaker 1: They did, and it was that in the ninetieth minute
- 3:27Speaker 1: where they let the other team score. So that was
- 3:29Speaker 1: damn really but it was it was really fun. They
- 3:36Speaker 1: have a playground directly next to the stadium. Oh I
- 3:40Speaker 1: didn't know that, and dude, it is like their favorite
- 3:44Speaker 1: playground now, which was really fun. They had like a
- 3:47Speaker 1: zipline thing that Charlie was obsessed with.
- 3:51Speaker 3: Amazing.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Yeah, it was a It was a pretty great day.
- 3:55Speaker 3: That's cool. That was the kid's first game, right, so
- 3:57Speaker 3: they they enjoyed it.
- 3:59Speaker 1: There were some things that they didn't like. There were
- 4:04Speaker 1: two different guys on the LA Galaxy that kind of
- 4:07Speaker 1: flopped trying to get fouls called, and well all the
- 4:14Speaker 1: fans hated that. So whenever any of those guys would
- 4:17Speaker 1: get past the ball, everyone started booing. And so my
- 4:22Speaker 1: kids are pretty sensitive, and why why are they booing him?
- 4:30Speaker 1: They're being so mean. They were like it was really
- 4:35Speaker 1: bugging them. They did not like that part of it
- 4:37Speaker 1: at all. That's very sweet though, But we were close
- 4:42Speaker 1: to like the fan section where they where we we
- 4:44Speaker 1: went and the whole time getting crazy doing all the
- 4:49Speaker 1: chance and so they were loving on that.
- 4:51Speaker 3: It was pretty cool. That's great.
- 4:54Speaker 1: I think they liked that more than like the Twins
- 4:57Speaker 1: games that I brought him to.
- 5:00Speaker 3: Okay, more exciting than a Twins game for kids anyway,
- 5:06Speaker 3: you know, like I could see that and it's still cool. Stadium.
- 5:10Speaker 3: I love that little place. It's so cool.
- 5:12Speaker 1: It's cool.
- 5:12Speaker 3: It's not like tiny, but it feels very intimate.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean it's yeah, it's quite a bit smaller
- 5:17Speaker 1: than some of the other ones for sure. Yeah. I
- 5:20Speaker 1: think there was like twenty thousand people there that day,
- 5:22Speaker 1: so full. It was fun. That's cool, man, Yeah. Fun.
- 5:27Speaker 1: But have you been watching any movies recently?
- 5:30Speaker 3: I have. I saw a film called Companion.
- 5:35Speaker 1: Oh tell me about them?
- 5:36Speaker 3: Yeah, really interesting film. I'm trying to remember. I know
- 5:40Speaker 3: I said we'd say where we saw it? Did I
- 5:42Speaker 3: rent this one?
- 5:44Speaker 1: Go to the theater?
- 5:44Speaker 3: I don't remember. Go look it up. You'll find it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: Go look it up. Sorry, gang, I think that's at
- 5:49Speaker 1: this Is that a rental?
- 5:50Speaker 3: Okay, I knew a thing. Yeah, anyway, really interesting film.
- 5:56Speaker 3: It stars Sophie Thatcher, who folks might know from Yellow Jackets,
- 6:01Speaker 3: and then she's been in a few other things now
- 6:04Speaker 3: as well, and Jack Quad is in it. There's the
- 6:09Speaker 3: Lucas Gage guy who I think you'd recognize. I don't
- 6:13Speaker 3: remember what he's from, and then Harvey Gien from What
- 6:17Speaker 3: We Do in the Shadow as well. Really interesting movie.
- 6:21Speaker 3: I don't want to give away too much about it.
- 6:23Speaker 3: It is sort of thriller slash horror adjacent. It's about
- 6:27Speaker 3: people that go to this remote location. I think it's
- 6:32Speaker 3: easy to say someone is not quite what they see
- 6:36Speaker 3: and chaos ensues from there, but I really liked it.
- 6:40Speaker 3: It is definitely more thrillery than horror movie for sure. Yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 3: well I know you like that and I do as well.
- 6:48Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's really really fun.
- 6:53Speaker 3: I just I just am having a little love affair
- 6:56Speaker 3: with Jack Quaid right now.
- 6:57Speaker 1: I just think, Yeah, novacane and now that one, I think.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Fun and just charismatic and you know, affable. I just
- 7:05Speaker 3: really like him a lot, so it's really great. And
- 7:08Speaker 3: he's not always an awesome None of them really are
- 7:13Speaker 3: awesome people all the time in this movie. So that
- 7:15Speaker 3: was also fun, but super enjoyable, very cool premise that
- 7:20Speaker 3: happens in the movie, and it's got some twists and
- 7:22Speaker 3: turns that are really fun, and I super duper liked
- 7:25Speaker 3: it a lot. I think I think you would particularly
- 7:28Speaker 3: enjoy it. And I think anyone who's okay with like
- 7:31Speaker 3: some horror elements but can hang out for a good
- 7:34Speaker 3: story will we'll be pleased with watching this movie. For sure.
- 7:37Speaker 1: It was fun. I mean, if they're listening to this episode,
- 7:41Speaker 1: that's a super good probably.
- 7:43Speaker 3: It is no way near American Psycho, yeah for sure,
- 7:47Speaker 3: so we're not quite there, but it has its moments
- 7:51Speaker 3: if you will. So, yeah, I recommend it, though I
- 7:54Speaker 3: really I had no expectations going in, and I really
- 7:57Speaker 3: liked it a lot. I thought it was fun cool.
- 7:59Speaker 1: I'm gonn check it out.
- 8:00Speaker 3: Uh yeah, we did talk about this when you were
- 8:04Speaker 3: over at my house.
- 8:06Speaker 1: But I went to the theater and saw the new
- 8:08Speaker 1: Steven Soderberg film Black Bag. That's right, yeah, yes, But
- 8:15Speaker 1: for the listener. This stars Michael Fastbender, Kate Blanchette, Pierce Brosnan,
- 8:22Speaker 1: Naomi Harris, and Moore. It's an espionage thriller. It's based
- 8:27Speaker 1: on an intelligence agency that has Michael Fastbender and Kate Blanchette.
- 8:32Speaker 1: They're a couple and they're spies and there's like a
- 8:38Speaker 1: mole that they got to figure out. So that is
- 8:41Speaker 1: that's pretty much the plot.
- 8:43Speaker 4: I was.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I was glad I saw it in the theater, and
- 8:45Speaker 1: I told you this because this genre just in general,
- 8:50Speaker 1: moves a little slower, and I probably would have started
- 8:54Speaker 1: scrolling on my phone had I watched it at my house,
- 8:58Speaker 1: And I'm glad I didn't do it. It was interesting,
- 9:01Speaker 1: it was very well acted, and it was it was quick.
- 9:05Speaker 1: It was ninety minutes. Yeah, tight, tight, ninety as well.
- 9:08Speaker 1: It was a tight ninety which I really liked, and
- 9:12Speaker 1: everybody in it was really good. I really, I thought
- 9:15Speaker 1: it was pretty great.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Actually, it felt like an old school like neo noir
- 9:21Speaker 3: kind of thing. Yeah, I guess I said old and neo,
- 9:24Speaker 3: but you know what I mean, like it felt like
- 9:27Speaker 3: it was from a few years ago in a great way,
- 9:29Speaker 3: kind of timeless. So yeah, I'm with you. I really
- 9:32Speaker 3: liked it. I agree, little slow in parts maybe, but
- 9:37Speaker 3: the payoff was good and all the actors were good.
- 9:39Speaker 3: I was really in love with that. Marissa Abella, Yeah,
- 9:44Speaker 3: I saw.
- 9:44Speaker 1: She was in a show called Industry that I didn't watch.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I did have watched that, and he really liked it,
- 9:50Speaker 3: I think, or at least he watched it, I guess
- 9:52Speaker 3: now I don't remember if he liked it. But she
- 9:54Speaker 3: also did the Back in Black movie, the Amy Winehouse biopick.
- 10:02Speaker 1: There was a biopic on Amy Whinehouse, I guess.
- 10:04Speaker 3: So that's also what I like. I saw and I
- 10:08Speaker 3: was like, oh, yeah, I guess I kind of remember
- 10:10Speaker 3: that happening. Yeah, I can see that. I know. I'm
- 10:16Speaker 3: intrigued now to watch that for sure. I was just
- 10:20Speaker 3: looking real quick when did that happen? It was twenty
- 10:23Speaker 3: twenty four, so it was last year.
- 10:25Speaker 1: How did I not hear about that at all?
- 10:27Speaker 3: I know, I feel like we completely missed it. It's
- 10:29Speaker 3: on Prime Video to stream, so check it out. I
- 10:33Speaker 3: feel like I'm gonna watch it now. I like Amy
- 10:36Speaker 3: Whinehouse anyway. I loved her, although that story is kind
- 10:40Speaker 3: of yucky based on the what I remember from I
- 10:45Speaker 3: watched a documented yeah I think it was called Amy Yeah, yeah,
- 10:49Speaker 3: and that was, you know, just it had its sad moments.
- 10:52Speaker 3: But I'm intrigue. I really thought she was great in
- 10:54Speaker 3: this movie, so I'm definitely sure what I might as
- 10:57Speaker 3: well check this out?
- 10:57Speaker 1: Why not?
- 10:58Speaker 3: So? Yeah, anyway, I sidetracked this.
- 11:00Speaker 1: Sorry, It's all good. Have you been streaming anything?
- 11:04Speaker 3: Yeah? I finished an entire series that I don't think
- 11:07Speaker 3: I've talked about yet. This is a show about the
- 11:10Speaker 3: troubles in Northern Ireland, which was the you know, the
- 11:15Speaker 3: the fighting that was happening in the IRA and the
- 11:18Speaker 3: British monarchy and all that kind of stuff. It's a
- 11:21Speaker 3: show called Say Nothing. It's an FX show, so you
- 11:24Speaker 3: can see in Hulu, I think primary I kept.
- 11:27Speaker 1: Seeing previews for it. It looks awesome.
- 11:29Speaker 3: It's really really good, super compelling. I think it's nine
- 11:34Speaker 3: episodes if I recall. Production value is great. It is
- 11:38Speaker 3: sort of about an entire sort of running history of
- 11:43Speaker 3: the Troubles, and you follow a bunch of characters, but
- 11:47Speaker 3: sort of the main ish characters is this pair of
- 11:51Speaker 3: sisters that that parents were involved in the IRA at
- 11:55Speaker 3: one point or another, and they sort of become involved
- 11:59Speaker 3: in events and stuff goes crazy from there. It's one
- 12:02Speaker 3: of those super interesting ones where it's based on true
- 12:05Speaker 3: events and real people and like so they have to
- 12:09Speaker 3: do some disclaimer stuff, you know, about well this person
- 12:14Speaker 3: has said they were never involved, but we're going off
- 12:17Speaker 3: of these other things, so it's a little hard to
- 12:19Speaker 3: know what is true what maybe you know, liberties were
- 12:24Speaker 3: taken with things, things like that. But it's definitely got
- 12:28Speaker 3: parts of it that are true as the best I
- 12:29Speaker 3: can kind of, you know say, but it's been dramatized.
- 12:32Speaker 1: It's really really good, very compelling.
- 12:35Speaker 3: It is violent at points and you know, really upsetting
- 12:38Speaker 3: at points, but it's really good.
- 12:40Speaker 4: Dude.
- 12:41Speaker 3: I think you would like it a lot, and I
- 12:43Speaker 3: recommend as well people check it out. I kind of
- 12:46Speaker 3: I think I had watched two episodes before this before
- 12:50Speaker 3: like Sunday, and I think I knocked out almost the
- 12:52Speaker 3: rest just that day.
- 12:53Speaker 1: So it's super interesting and fun.
- 12:56Speaker 3: So yeah, check it out. Say Nothing, It's called.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Say Nothing, Yeah, say less less watch as. Can you
- 13:03Speaker 1: say more about what you've been streaming?
- 13:05Speaker 3: Yes?
- 13:06Speaker 1: I can? Wowie wow Wow. I finished the second season
- 13:11Speaker 1: of Severance. Oh me too, dude, Yes, dude. That ending episode, Holy.
- 13:20Speaker 3: Cow, it was bonkers in the blue my mind.
- 13:26Speaker 1: So we learned a lot more about what's going on
- 13:31Speaker 1: just in the last two episodes of the show. I
- 13:33Speaker 1: felt like they gave us a lot of answers, which
- 13:35Speaker 1: is really nice. It almost felt like they were ready.
- 13:40Speaker 1: If Apple wasn't going to renew it for a third season,
- 13:45Speaker 1: they could have ended it there if they wanted to.
- 13:48Speaker 1: I kind of like, not everything was answered, but a
- 13:52Speaker 1: lot was, and it was. I mean, I don't want
- 13:55Speaker 1: to give too much work.
- 13:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:56Speaker 1: Bonker's finale so good, so intense. I was loving it.
- 14:01Speaker 1: I saw that Ben Stiller publicly asked Apple through x
- 14:06Speaker 1: if they should make a season three and Apple agreed,
- 14:11Speaker 1: so yes, Yeah.
- 14:14Speaker 3: So we saw the probably was like it's going to
- 14:16Speaker 3: be a shorter amount of time to this time.
- 14:18Speaker 1: We probably because I was going to say, we're going
- 14:20Speaker 1: to expect that in like twenty thirty with the way
- 14:23Speaker 1: things have been going. It's guy. I also saw a
- 14:28Speaker 1: thing that said that Apple like was losing a billion
- 14:32Speaker 1: dollars annually for the shows that they're putting out. Is
- 14:37Speaker 1: that true? I don't.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Who knows in it?
- 14:40Speaker 1: Because they have the I think they have the best
- 14:43Speaker 1: shows out.
- 14:44Speaker 3: Yeah, they really they're great. Yeah, once you get like
- 14:47Speaker 3: shrinking and yeah.
- 14:49Speaker 1: Like they are killing it. And these are usually pretty
- 14:52Speaker 1: good too.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Yeah I think worth watching, Yeah, most of them for sure.
- 14:58Speaker 1: But I just I don't. I don't understand. I guess
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't know how they make their money, and I
- 15:02Speaker 1: would assume it's the membership, but it's just like, yeah,
- 15:06Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 15:07Speaker 3: It's weird, and who know. I feel like there's so
- 15:10Speaker 3: much like they can cook the book, like not even illegally,
- 15:14Speaker 3: but they just you know, like these movies that make
- 15:16Speaker 3: all this money and they're like, we barely broke even
- 15:18Speaker 3: It's like, did you though, what is happening? What sort
- 15:21Speaker 3: of creative stuff are we doing here on the accounting side?
- 15:24Speaker 3: You know?
- 15:24Speaker 1: Well, I'm just hoping they keep making shows because I
- 15:28Speaker 1: enjoy it almost all of them.
- 15:31Speaker 3: Fifty trillion or whatever.
- 15:32Speaker 1: So so they probably keep losing a billion fire You're good,
- 15:38Speaker 1: I guess so, But yeah, they are entertaining me. The
- 15:41Speaker 1: show is fantastic, man, it's really wild.
- 15:43Speaker 3: I felt like at points of this season, Oh, I
- 15:45Speaker 3: think we talked about on here, maybe like a tiny
- 15:48Speaker 3: bit slower or you were just kind of like, where
- 15:51Speaker 3: are we going?
- 15:52Speaker 1: And I just want to know things I was getting.
- 15:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, agreed, it's getting frustrated and there's.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Still a more learn.
- 16:00Speaker 3: So they did a good tightrope walk for sure.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Nice love that, Oh so good.
- 16:06Speaker 3: Very very fun.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Well, what do you think should do some plug rooons?
- 16:09Speaker 3: Let's do it all right, guests can business has always
- 16:11Speaker 3: over on the Twitter machine at the Aven Endorsman with
- 16:16Speaker 3: a Z. I can go to Facebook, dot Com, Instagram,
- 16:19Speaker 3: TikTok at the Avandorsement as well Blue Sky, etc. Etc.
- 16:25Speaker 3: But if you really want to hang out and be
- 16:26Speaker 3: part of the crew, it's about.
- 16:27Speaker 1: To go Patreon dot com slash the Avid Indoorsman. It's
- 16:33Speaker 1: a great time on Patreon. We give our patrons a
- 16:35Speaker 1: lot of perks, and one of those is getting a
- 16:37Speaker 1: shout out here. So let's give it up for Marcia Grisiac,
- 16:40Speaker 1: Mary Fox, Nanette Walkley, Yo, I'm brosted deb Olk, and
- 16:45Speaker 1: Noel Flores. You guys are wonderful. Thank you for being patrons.
- 16:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Another perk we like to give our patrons is an
- 16:52Speaker 1: extended version of every episode we put out, we'll do
- 16:55Speaker 1: a top five draft that pertains to the movie that
- 16:57Speaker 1: we're talking about, and for this one, we are doing
- 17:01Speaker 1: our top five favorite staircase scenes. This one was more
- 17:07Speaker 1: fruitful than I thought it might be at first. Yes,
- 17:09Speaker 1: So when I was going to bed last night, I
- 17:12Speaker 1: was just like, there's got to be more than what
- 17:14Speaker 1: I googled, and I was like just kind of racking
- 17:16Speaker 1: my brain and I was able to come up with
- 17:18Speaker 1: three more, which I was pretty excited about that. You
- 17:21Speaker 1: were like, how could I Like, how can I forget one?
- 17:25Speaker 1: And it's going to be my number one if I
- 17:27Speaker 1: can get it.
- 17:28Speaker 3: Dang, But I hope it's the one I'm thinking because
- 17:30Speaker 3: I was like, me too, remember that'll be Yeah.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, it was fun.
- 17:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it was a good time. I think this will
- 17:38Speaker 3: be a fun draft for sure, for surely, and a
- 17:41Speaker 3: great topic because as they get ever increasingly harder to come.
- 17:45Speaker 1: No, dude, I know we're gonna do.
- 17:48Speaker 3: What were we going to do?
- 17:49Speaker 1: Like funniest bath scenes?
- 17:51Speaker 3: And we were like, you were like, have we done that?
- 17:54Speaker 3: I can't imagine yet.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Yeah, And then I was like, we have done it.
- 18:01Speaker 1: It's like, dang it.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Anyway. It was a silly, good time, a great suggestion.
- 18:06Speaker 3: I believe by our guest right that one was me.
- 18:13Speaker 3: This next guest that we have, though, doesn't come up
- 18:15Speaker 3: with any good ideas ever.
- 18:18Speaker 1: He smells bad, he's dumb.
- 18:21Speaker 3: He's great, he's a lovely man, he's wonderful. I think
- 18:25Speaker 3: you guys are going to like him. We had to
- 18:27Speaker 3: bring him back for this twisted film. As we talked
- 18:30Speaker 3: today about American psycho. Yes, and he's our little American psycho.
- 18:36Speaker 1: Let's give it up, Chada, what's up Chatham?
- 18:41Speaker 5: Hey? Anyway, I was thinking that was the meaning of
- 18:42Speaker 5: life and we started already, Oh.
- 18:44Speaker 1: Yeah, yes, we're here.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Did we miss that?
- 18:47Speaker 5: You're going to see me? Maybe I should put this,
- 18:50Speaker 5: you know what? I think I should put the screen
- 18:52Speaker 5: because I'm going to be constantly looking up and people
- 18:54Speaker 5: are like, what's he looking at?
- 18:55Speaker 1: What's he looking at?
- 18:56Speaker 5: And I want to say, I'm looking at the lord camera. Yeah,
- 19:01Speaker 5: there you go the l n S. Lord, save.
- 19:10Speaker 3: The l n S.
- 19:11Speaker 1: I'm really glad you clarified, because I.
- 19:14Speaker 5: Was not following as opposed to ld s, they're very different.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Like I just I found that abbreviating really like acronym
- 19:24Speaker 5: is a very funny thing to do. For some reason, I.
- 19:26Speaker 1: Just acronym makes me giggle.
- 19:29Speaker 5: I'm very good. I'm acronymical.
- 19:32Speaker 1: What I like? Are we talking about the same thing?
- 19:36Speaker 1: You put your finger?
- 19:37Speaker 5: Oh?
- 19:37Speaker 1: Sorry, what's that?
- 19:38Speaker 3: Got it? Got?
- 19:40Speaker 5: Not your finger? He railed already. I'm not going to
- 19:46Speaker 5: say that. My train is never on the tracks anyway,
- 19:50Speaker 5: you know, so it's not.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Hi Chatham, How are you?
- 19:54Speaker 5: I'm so good, guys. I'm very excited to be here.
- 19:58Speaker 5: Lots of fun things happening, lots of good times being
- 20:01Speaker 5: had by all. Yes, yeah you guys. Uh, how's it
- 20:06Speaker 5: going over there? How's it going? Is it still snowing there? Right?
- 20:10Speaker 1: It's nicer. I just went on a walk with my puppy, uh,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and it was beautiful.
- 20:17Speaker 3: It was like tonight.
- 20:20Speaker 5: That's what I like.
- 20:21Speaker 2: Like.
- 20:22Speaker 5: I mean, I don't I like cold obviously, and bugs
- 20:25Speaker 5: and I have talked about this because he's way more
- 20:28Speaker 5: Rhino than I am as far as the skin taking
- 20:30Speaker 5: the cold goes. But uh, I just don't. I don't
- 20:35Speaker 5: care for the super cool. I got it when we
- 20:37Speaker 5: did those Christmas shows in Fargo when I was first
- 20:40Speaker 5: starting out in me.
- 20:40Speaker 1: Dude, nobody likes that.
- 20:42Speaker 5: No one wants to. Yeah, just the show.
- 20:46Speaker 1: Your listener in Fargo, we really like, we.
- 20:49Speaker 5: Like, but yeah, you can move like Grand Forks is
- 20:53Speaker 5: not a better one. Don't do that. But you know
- 20:56Speaker 5: that's maybe frazy, right, guys, right, no one knows, no
- 21:01Speaker 5: one knows what these laics are. I'm just like, oh, yeah,
- 21:03Speaker 5: sant Cloud, you guys like that, Like you guys want
- 21:06Speaker 5: to go to Brainer.
- 21:07Speaker 1: Somebody was talking to that Charlie Barron's guy, and was like, so,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I'm from North Dakota. What are some fun things that
- 21:12Speaker 1: I can do? And all of his suggestions were going
- 21:16Speaker 1: somewhere else.
- 21:18Speaker 5: Yes, I want to leave. I'm a big fan.
- 21:22Speaker 1: If there's an airplane nearby, you could do any number of.
- 21:25Speaker 5: Any number of fun things.
- 21:27Speaker 1: Otherwise it made me laugh.
- 21:30Speaker 3: That's really great.
- 21:33Speaker 1: But I got to see Chatham just last week. We
- 21:35Speaker 1: were shooting some music videos and I love it.
- 21:38Speaker 5: Yeah, man, had some good you got some star power
- 21:41Speaker 5: on these ones.
- 21:41Speaker 1: I think we got some collaborations. Yeah, yeah, pretty cool.
- 21:48Speaker 5: Yeah, that's been crazy ever since. Like I would say
- 21:52Speaker 5: the Cruise thing right that that really helped out a lot,
- 21:55Speaker 5: Like country this country music Cruise and then hang out
- 21:58Speaker 5: and then all of a sudden, you're just like hanging
- 21:59Speaker 5: out with these legends and you're like, yeah, I guess
- 22:02Speaker 5: I'll hang out with Time in Rio today.
- 22:04Speaker 1: I don't know whatever.
- 22:05Speaker 3: You're like, what, aw big deal?
- 22:07Speaker 5: Yeah, NBD, that's awesome.
- 22:12Speaker 1: That's no big deal. For the listeners, Chat has been Yes,
- 22:14Speaker 1: good job, thanks fun. Chat has been doing a lot
- 22:18Speaker 1: of recording for us, which has been really exciting.
- 22:20Speaker 5: I like it a lot because you guys are really
- 22:25Speaker 5: good at it. That's the thing like a lot of
- 22:27Speaker 5: people don't know they think nowadays. You know, you hear
- 22:29Speaker 5: this like everybody's tuned and it's all made him perfect
- 22:32Speaker 5: in the studio and I'm like, yeah, but if you
- 22:34Speaker 5: have the raw materials, like it's pretty great, doesn't take
- 22:37Speaker 5: long for you guys to be like, yeah, yeah, that
- 22:40Speaker 5: was good. Do you want to do another one? They're
- 22:41Speaker 5: like no, yeah, we're pretty much good to go here.
- 22:44Speaker 5: It doesn't take long at all. I did Tim and
- 22:47Speaker 5: I we recorded and did like I don't know for
- 22:51Speaker 5: he likes to record in the morning because he's a
- 22:53Speaker 5: bass and you know, he's like, well, you want to
- 22:56Speaker 5: start at eight, And I'm like, what not really start
- 23:00Speaker 5: my nap? Like what's my post sleep nap.
- 23:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 23:03Speaker 5: He's like, yeah, I'll do it. And you get there
- 23:05Speaker 5: and and I'm like, I can't do it, inoctave above
- 23:09Speaker 5: what you're doing. But he did like four songs. We
- 23:12Speaker 5: recorded four songs, and he's like, okay, cool.
- 23:14Speaker 1: You want to knock him out.
- 23:15Speaker 5: Man, it's so impressive, especially like the base, you know, weird,
- 23:19Speaker 5: some of the basslines can be. We're just like and
- 23:24Speaker 5: he's like, yeah, I'm used to this. I do this
- 23:25Speaker 5: a lot. I'm like, man, and obviously it's impressive. Fasting
- 23:29Speaker 5: is very fast, and I know I've recorded you before, Robin.
- 23:32Speaker 5: You're very fast, You're very consistent. You're like this, that's
- 23:36Speaker 5: what we did. Yeah, let's do that again.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But I'm unsure and feel gross about it the whole.
- 23:40Speaker 5: Time, right, but no one would ever know, you know,
- 23:44Speaker 5: you put on.
- 23:47Speaker 1: What I'm sure and gross about.
- 23:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I know, what you said.
- 23:57Speaker 5: To repeat it anyway. I love it anyway. So I'm
- 24:02Speaker 5: very excited. It's very fun to work with you guys
- 24:04Speaker 5: and this. I'm very excited about the project. We can't
- 24:07Speaker 5: talk about. It's very good. Yes, hell yeah, Yeah, it's
- 24:09Speaker 5: gonna be a.
- 24:10Speaker 3: Secret, keep a secret, keep it saying well, well, you
- 24:12Speaker 3: don't have to keep secret is go to.
- 24:13Speaker 1: Patreon dot com slash Chatham or Chris Chatham.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Sorry, Chris Chatham, Chris Chadom that's me.
- 24:19Speaker 3: Uh And you're gonna you're gonna like revamp has the
- 24:23Speaker 3: idea right speaking of vamping.
- 24:27Speaker 5: Nice, Yeah, I'm gonna make some stuff on there. I
- 24:30Speaker 5: have some ideas going around, because you know, it's fun
- 24:34Speaker 5: to be inspired by everybody doing these fun musical things.
- 24:38Speaker 5: And I'm like, I have some ideas. Hell and it's
- 24:41Speaker 5: been a minute, and I was like, all right, there's
- 24:43Speaker 5: always that. The last thing we had talked about, I
- 24:45Speaker 5: think before, was like Tim, Tim and I both went
- 24:48Speaker 5: into studio with a bunch of bluegrass people here and
- 24:50Speaker 5: they're insanely good and just made these songs into bluegrass.
- 24:54Speaker 5: Were like, let's carry on my Wayward Sun. Sound like
- 24:57Speaker 5: if I were just to put a fiddle on there
- 24:58Speaker 5: in a banjo turned that's great.
- 25:00Speaker 1: So I believe that.
- 25:02Speaker 5: I think I'm gonna go back into my hair metally
- 25:05Speaker 5: days and be like, what else can we do? Let's
- 25:07Speaker 5: see what can skid row do that's got a banjo
- 25:10Speaker 5: in it. Let's find out?
- 25:12Speaker 1: Shall we like that?
- 25:13Speaker 5: Yeah? So I'm going to explore that realm as well,
- 25:16Speaker 5: and I've got some songs. Yeah, there's a lot of
- 25:19Speaker 5: things bouncing around up there too, a lot of bounce
- 25:21Speaker 5: around up and the old dude's nogging there.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Love it so love it.
- 25:26Speaker 5: Man, It's gonna be great.
- 25:27Speaker 3: Yeah, that'll be fun.
- 25:28Speaker 1: We'll check that out. And also Oregon get Away.
- 25:31Speaker 3: I'll be out there.
- 25:31Speaker 1: For that, right.
- 25:32Speaker 5: I cannot wait. I love that every time. I'm trying
- 25:36Speaker 5: to figure out when we're going to get there, and
- 25:38Speaker 5: there was talk of doing something with just having people
- 25:42Speaker 5: and doing some writing beforehand and stuff, and I don't know, fun,
- 25:46Speaker 5: we'll see. It's gonna be really really something every time.
- 25:49Speaker 5: It's just a beautiful place. Obviously, Abe is awesome, and
- 25:53Speaker 5: all of his animals you've noticed, like they're all like
- 25:56Speaker 5: the best, have that same energy where they're just like, yeah,
- 25:58Speaker 5: pick me up and I'll hang out. It's fine, Sure,
- 26:01Speaker 5: I'll hang out.
- 26:01Speaker 1: No worries.
- 26:02Speaker 5: Man and Lamas are heavy, it turns out, you know,
- 26:06Speaker 5: but worth it.
- 26:07Speaker 1: We're gonna we're gonna be there this year.
- 26:09Speaker 5: That's so. That's so FUNNL.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be great.
- 26:13Speaker 5: I'm very excited. The town is fun too. It's just
- 26:15Speaker 5: a quaint little like we talked about stand by Me,
- 26:18Speaker 5: right was the door that it was filmed? Yeah, I'm
- 26:22Speaker 5: gonna I hope that old guy bugs knows. I played
- 26:24Speaker 5: a guy in pool there. What was his name? He's like,
- 26:28Speaker 5: I'm t Bone. I'm like, of course, you are hard
- 26:30Speaker 5: to say with three teeth, but man, you great. I
- 26:34Speaker 5: don't know. It was great and we played and he
- 26:36Speaker 5: was like, all right, just it was super fun.
- 26:38Speaker 3: I thought he was going to totally rock your world.
- 26:40Speaker 3: I wanted to came in hot and then yeah, he
- 26:43Speaker 3: wasn't that good. It's really interesting, you know.
- 26:45Speaker 5: He said, some nice guy though, really nice guy.
- 26:48Speaker 3: Yeah, nice guy.
- 26:50Speaker 5: Anyway, looking forward to that.
- 26:53Speaker 1: Super fun. Well check all that stuff out.
- 26:55Speaker 3: We are here today to talk about American Psycho, which
- 26:58Speaker 3: is celebrating it's twenty fifth anniversary. Wow, it's pretty crazy
- 27:02Speaker 3: to think about crazy.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Uh and what do you guys think? Should we get
- 27:05Speaker 1: right into it?
- 27:06Speaker 3: Let's do it? Yeah? Rap, well you get it started
- 27:09Speaker 3: with a rough stops sure.
- 27:12Speaker 1: In New York City in nineteen eighty seven, a handsome
- 27:16Speaker 1: young urban professional, Patrick Bateman lives a second life as
- 27:21Speaker 1: a gruesome serial killer by night. The cast is filled
- 27:24Speaker 1: by the detective, the fiance, the mistress, the coworker, and
- 27:29Speaker 1: the secretary. This is a biting rye comedy examining the
- 27:34Speaker 1: elements that make a man a monster.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Oh nice when you're you're reading the secretary and that
- 27:44Speaker 3: line's like, and that's why we're the breakfast club. Yeah nice,
- 27:49Speaker 3: very much in that same thing.
- 27:50Speaker 5: For I love that money. Yeah job, yeah right.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Ah, very good, great job, pal, thank you, thank you.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Let's go to rotten to bottles near what they have
- 28:01Speaker 3: to say. Critics have this coming in and a really.
- 28:03Speaker 1: Surprising, surprising eight percent.
- 28:06Speaker 3: Eight kind of shocked by that. Honestly, I thought this
- 28:09Speaker 3: was a critically acclaimed film.
- 28:11Speaker 5: So did I I could see what happened.
- 28:14Speaker 1: I don't know, like I kind of thought it was
- 28:16Speaker 1: going to be flip flopped. Yeah, I thought it at
- 28:20Speaker 1: least be sixty nine percent. I couldn't believe it was
- 28:22Speaker 1: only sixty percent.
- 28:23Speaker 5: What does the what does the audience part of it say?
- 28:28Speaker 1: It way higher? Eighty five?
- 28:32Speaker 5: I would yeah, I guess that makes it what it is. Yeah,
- 28:35Speaker 5: it seems well I could see why if it's so yeah.
- 28:39Speaker 3: Oh you can see why. Well, let's get in and
- 28:40Speaker 3: let's find out what you think. Let's get into our
- 28:43Speaker 3: hot take.
- 28:45Speaker 1: So hot hot, that's.
- 28:48Speaker 3: A hot take.
- 28:49Speaker 5: That's a hot take.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Food at the fancy restaurants.
- 28:55Speaker 3: There's hot tags, they're piping hot, piping hot.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Is this that?
- 29:00Speaker 3: It is? This? That? Is this?
- 29:02Speaker 5: That hot sauce show? Is that what this?
- 29:04Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 29:04Speaker 1: That's cool?
- 29:05Speaker 5: Are you guys Sean or whatever?
- 29:07Speaker 3: Yes? We are?
- 29:10Speaker 1: Wow?
- 29:11Speaker 5: Which one.
- 29:14Speaker 3: Are you in the other room?
- 29:17Speaker 1: Pipe it down? I guess I can go first, you
- 29:23Speaker 1: go first.
- 29:24Speaker 3: I don't necessarily have a super hot hot take for
- 29:27Speaker 3: this movie. I think it's I've seen it a couple
- 29:30Speaker 3: of times, is all. This was one I saw late,
- 29:33Speaker 3: I believe, within the last five six years. I would think, Uh,
- 29:39Speaker 3: it's just a crazy movie about a crazy dude who
- 29:43Speaker 3: is like slowly unraveling as things go within it. But
- 29:48Speaker 3: it's really compelling. It is definitely in that thriller category.
- 29:52Speaker 3: I think.
- 29:55Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:55Speaker 3: I just think it's really interesting. I think a movie
- 29:58Speaker 3: like this is also funny to me to watch like
- 30:01Speaker 3: years after it's happened, because it can almost seem it's
- 30:04Speaker 3: been copied so much. You know that it almost seems
- 30:07Speaker 3: like trite and over dramatic at points because you like,
- 30:10Speaker 3: know these beats so well yeah, right, but right, exactly exactly.
- 30:18Speaker 3: But I think it's a super well performed movie that
- 30:22Speaker 3: also breaks your brain at various points. It's confusing at points,
- 30:27Speaker 3: and it's just kind of a gross look at like
- 30:30Speaker 3: capitalism and the like rat race stuff as well a
- 30:34Speaker 3: little bit. But I still enjoyed it. I thought it
- 30:38Speaker 3: was compelling. If nothing else, this dude is an absolute
- 30:42Speaker 3: marksman with a chainsaw from several floors up.
- 30:46Speaker 5: I have tried that so many times. I never get her.
- 30:50Speaker 3: No, they always get away.
- 30:52Speaker 1: I always drag. Yeah, I don't.
- 30:56Speaker 3: I actually don't think I have a hot egg other
- 30:59Speaker 3: than I agree. Huey lewis in the news they hit
- 31:02Speaker 3: a high water mark and I can't remember even what
- 31:04Speaker 3: the album is that they were talking about.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Well, first it was sports. We definitely talked about sports,
- 31:09Speaker 1: and then it was four, right, four?
- 31:11Speaker 3: Which one did he say was their high water mark
- 31:14Speaker 3: both musically and I think sports.
- 31:16Speaker 5: Right, Actually think he was like then he started.
- 31:19Speaker 1: Talking about it have to be square, right.
- 31:21Speaker 5: Yeah, he says like four. It's like, oh, they're undenied
- 31:23Speaker 5: masterpiece or whatever those are, right, man, They're incredible.
- 31:27Speaker 1: I love you. I guess that's my same bro hot.
- 31:32Speaker 5: That is a brave, brave stance to take.
- 31:34Speaker 1: Wow. Well, like you, I missed this movie when it
- 31:39Speaker 1: came out as well. It came out a lot on
- 31:42Speaker 1: the pod, and so I watched it for the first
- 31:44Speaker 1: time either last year or the year before, and I
- 31:48Speaker 1: was looking back at Christian bales movies and I really
- 31:51Speaker 1: didn't see any of his early work when it came out.
- 31:55Speaker 1: The first thing I saw of his when it came
- 31:57Speaker 1: out was Rain of Fire back in two thousand and two.
- 32:01Speaker 3: A masterpiece.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Yeah, we've done an episode on it, check it out.
- 32:05Speaker 1: But I've gone back and watched things prior. But I
- 32:07Speaker 1: was real late on Christian Bale, which makes sense why
- 32:09Speaker 1: I was so confused about why they picked him for
- 32:12Speaker 1: Batman at the time. Who is this guy? What's this
- 32:16Speaker 1: guy done? Oh? Turns out a lot turns out he's
- 32:18Speaker 1: a very accomplished actor. I just never saw any of
- 32:21Speaker 1: the movies using. This was a novel by Brett Easton Ellis,
- 32:26Speaker 1: super dark writer. My buddy Timmy made me read Less
- 32:30Speaker 1: than Zero because it was one of his favorite books
- 32:33Speaker 1: back in the day. Also very very dark and just depressing.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Apparently that's Brett Easton Ellis's thing. The woman who played
- 32:45Speaker 1: Elizabeth in this was one of the writers of the screenplay,
- 32:49Speaker 1: as well as Mary Herron, who directed it. This is
- 32:53Speaker 1: by far the biggest film that she's ever directed, and
- 32:56Speaker 1: has done a lot of random television over the years
- 33:00Speaker 1: and some TV movies. The cast in this is pretty incredible.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Some pretty big name actors that weren't big at the
- 33:07Speaker 1: time were cast in some pretty small roles. So it
- 33:11Speaker 1: was really fun going back and seeing all these all
- 33:14Speaker 1: these young cats. I love the soundtrack in this. Uh
- 33:20Speaker 1: you know when there was good when there's that pretty
- 33:23Speaker 1: kind of dark monologue while he's getting ready for the
- 33:26Speaker 1: day and taking off the skincare mask, and then it
- 33:28Speaker 1: goes right into walking on Sunshine. Oh yeah, it's pretty JR.
- 33:36Speaker 1: There it is. That's the score.
- 33:39Speaker 5: That's pretty much what's going on. But he's like so hilariously.
- 33:44Speaker 5: A friend of our guy was telling about Greg who
- 33:47Speaker 5: is so funny. He was learning piano and he wanted
- 33:50Speaker 5: to learn that piano to do the speech like the
- 33:55Speaker 5: whole morning, like the well sure thing. He was like,
- 33:57Speaker 5: I'm gonna try and do that, and I don't think
- 33:59Speaker 5: he ever did it, but he's like he loves it
- 34:01Speaker 5: so much and he just would quote it all the time.
- 34:03Speaker 5: Just think of like after I do the alcohol man,
- 34:06Speaker 5: you know whatever, After I do that, I put on
- 34:09Speaker 5: it with little to no alcohol because you know, so
- 34:12Speaker 5: he wanted to be able to do that. It's unbelievable.
- 34:15Speaker 5: It's so funny. But yeah, like that's just the music
- 34:19Speaker 5: is really something in this. Yeah it's great.
- 34:22Speaker 1: And you got Huey Lewis, like you said, Phil Collins,
- 34:24Speaker 1: I'm in, I'm in. It's an interesting tone in this
- 34:30Speaker 1: that it's like super dark but also pretty funny, and
- 34:35Speaker 1: it shows how horrible greed is and how meaningless a
- 34:38Speaker 1: life can be when only trying to get more things
- 34:40Speaker 1: and achieve a high status. I kind of like the
- 34:45Speaker 1: kind of ambiguous ending. We don't know for sure what
- 34:48Speaker 1: really happened, if this was all just a day dream
- 34:51Speaker 1: in his head. They leave it up for interpretation, which
- 34:54Speaker 1: I like, I guess my hot take this is what
- 34:56Speaker 1: I think happened. I think I think that he was
- 35:01Speaker 1: really doing all the murders up until the very end,
- 35:05Speaker 1: like up until that crazy night where he feeds the
- 35:09Speaker 1: cat to the atm and like shoots the lady and
- 35:12Speaker 1: then shoots at the police and the cars blow up. Like,
- 35:15Speaker 1: I don't think any of that happened. I think he
- 35:18Speaker 1: was like maybe just like super wasted or something, and
- 35:22Speaker 1: then left a phone call to the lawyer. Like I
- 35:25Speaker 1: don't think he did that night, but I think he
- 35:27Speaker 1: did everything leading up to that. Maybe maybe he didn't
- 35:29Speaker 1: do the chainsaw thing, because that was pretty crazy too.
- 35:33Speaker 1: But I like the idea of just how horribly dark
- 35:38Speaker 1: it is to think that the lady who was responsible
- 35:42Speaker 1: for selling Paul Allen's apartment saw all of the horror
- 35:47Speaker 1: that was in there and decided she was just going
- 35:50Speaker 1: to clean up and hide it so that she'd be
- 35:52Speaker 1: able to sell the apartment.
- 35:54Speaker 5: For like a.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Exactly Like that is so horrible.
- 36:00Speaker 5: That's that's that I feel like all that stuff had
- 36:02Speaker 5: to have happened. Yeah, sure, that's about that.
- 36:06Speaker 3: Buy that. The big thing is the like firing the
- 36:08Speaker 3: gun at the police and the.
- 36:10Speaker 1: Car explode and he's.
- 36:13Speaker 3: Like he's like what and there's no sound at that point,
- 36:16Speaker 3: just like kind of a giveaway. Yeah, yeah, right, yeah, agreed,
- 36:20Speaker 3: that's fun.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Hot take, Buddy, hot take, thank you.
- 36:25Speaker 3: Out.
- 36:26Speaker 5: Yeah. My thought is that one anyone watches it now,
- 36:30Speaker 5: it was like a young person isn't going to understand
- 36:32Speaker 5: anything about the eighties. We're not gonna understand. We're not
- 36:36Speaker 5: gonna be watching stuff that's in the sixties and seventies
- 36:38Speaker 5: and be like, oh yeah, I remember that. We just
- 36:40Speaker 5: don't know what it was like. So and that's you
- 36:43Speaker 5: know that kind of like I think that was described
- 36:46Speaker 5: as like the anonymity of the eighties, like they all
- 36:49Speaker 5: do the same thing. Nobody knows who any of them are,
- 36:51Speaker 5: Like he might not be Patrick Bateman, like he doesn't
- 36:53Speaker 5: actually know, Like we don't really know that that's who
- 36:56Speaker 5: that is, like right, So every thing from like yeah,
- 37:01Speaker 5: like I think that people saw it and they were like,
- 37:04Speaker 5: I don't did anything happen? Like I think they just
- 37:06Speaker 5: weren't satisfied with nothing happening, you know what I mean,
- 37:09Speaker 5: the way we all were at the end of like sopranos.
- 37:11Speaker 5: We're all like, but we just but we went through
- 37:14Speaker 5: the whole journey, like what happened? So yeah, I think
- 37:18Speaker 5: I think people just kind of it's weird enough that
- 37:23Speaker 5: and like any cult classic, like nobody knows it yet.
- 37:25Speaker 5: Like if you watch I'm like when Big Lebowski came
- 37:28Speaker 5: out and people were like, what happened, It's like, no,
- 37:31Speaker 5: nothing happened. It's fine, don't worry about it. Like now
- 37:34Speaker 5: we're all like, well, that's incredible. And also none of
- 37:37Speaker 5: the actors were huge names other than like Willem Dafoe
- 37:41Speaker 5: really and so you know, you don't have any there's
- 37:45Speaker 5: there's no hype with any of them yet. So we
- 37:48Speaker 5: go back and watch it now we're like, oh, yeah,
- 37:49Speaker 5: that guy, that's fun.
- 37:50Speaker 1: Right.
- 37:51Speaker 5: But it's just I think people just worked turned off
- 37:54Speaker 5: by how weird it is. And it is like pretty intense,
- 37:58Speaker 5: like it's pretty, it's graphic, and it's, uh, there's no
- 38:03Speaker 5: good guy in it, like there's nobody that you can
- 38:05Speaker 5: root for, and it was like they weren't really doing
- 38:07Speaker 5: movies like that yet. They were kind of like fight
- 38:10Speaker 5: Club was in there, and they didn't have like the
- 38:12Speaker 5: bad guy winning a lot you know. So it's like,
- 38:15Speaker 5: I don't know, I'm just having an entire speech. At
- 38:18Speaker 5: the end, we're like, so what happened? Well, I guess
- 38:21Speaker 5: nothing and like no consequences, And they're like, oh, I
- 38:24Speaker 5: think people just didn't like it, and they don't, you know,
- 38:27Speaker 5: and it wasn't a thing yet now yeah, I guess
- 38:29Speaker 5: fast forward, that's why all people like it now. They're like,
- 38:32Speaker 5: but all the scenes though, like watch it, how weird
- 38:35Speaker 5: it is and funny and so yeah, I think people
- 38:38Speaker 5: just weren't ready for it yet.
- 38:40Speaker 1: But I feel like critics are usually pretty glad of that.
- 38:44Speaker 1: You know, that was really weird for me.
- 38:47Speaker 5: Yeah, maybe it's yeah, they didn't maybe they didn't see
- 38:51Speaker 5: the extended cut like I did and thought, well, we
- 38:55Speaker 5: did need that extra bit of I don't know, there's
- 39:00Speaker 5: only a couple of things they added that. I was like,
- 39:01Speaker 5: really that put it over the NC seventeen. I was like,
- 39:04Speaker 5: are you sure that's it?
- 39:06Speaker 1: Like it's like no extra murders something, it's not even.
- 39:08Speaker 5: Like it's like an extra scene and like the threesome
- 39:10Speaker 5: of the weird sex thing, and there's a couple of those,
- 39:13Speaker 5: and you're like, that's what did it huh, and they
- 39:16Speaker 5: said like, yeah, she had a tone of down just
- 39:17Speaker 5: a little bit to make sure it can we get released.
- 39:20Speaker 5: But I don't know, but it's yeah, it's it's weird
- 39:23Speaker 5: and I don't know what happens still, And I'm like
- 39:26Speaker 5: when I show people the movie and I'm like, hey,
- 39:29Speaker 5: let's watch this, and they're like okay. At the end,
- 39:32Speaker 5: I don't really know either. I'm like, they're worried about
- 39:35Speaker 5: me mostly, which happens a lot. Like am I free
- 39:38Speaker 5: to go? Yeah? Should? I don't feel restrained, but I'm scared.
- 39:45Speaker 5: I'm worried, but like, well, yeah, no, you're free to go.
- 39:48Speaker 3: Be like I just got a new Hue Lewis and
- 39:50Speaker 3: the News album. You guess why? I hear you like
- 39:52Speaker 3: right away?
- 39:53Speaker 5: Do you like Phil Collins? So yeah, man, well hot
- 40:01Speaker 5: take hot tot ish, I'd say, Luke, pretty Luke.
- 40:04Speaker 3: You know, yeah, I know we're tip tip tay. You know,
- 40:08Speaker 3: it happens, it happens. Let's go talk about our favorite
- 40:12Speaker 3: acting performance.
- 40:13Speaker 1: Shall we name the dude the dude?
- 40:16Speaker 3: The dude.
- 40:17Speaker 4: I'm the dude, so that's what you call me, you
- 40:20Speaker 4: know that, or his dude or duder or you know
- 40:25Speaker 4: el dud Reno if you're not into the whole brevity thing.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Yeah, Chatham, who do you? Who do you have for
- 40:31Speaker 3: your favorite actor?
- 40:32Speaker 5: I mean it's such a solo kind of movie, like
- 40:35Speaker 5: there's a lot of support everywhere. It's there's really only
- 40:37Speaker 5: one way to go about Christian Bale is like you
- 40:40Speaker 5: don't you don't see it coming either, and if you know,
- 40:43Speaker 5: like I only knew Newsies right, so and then there
- 40:47Speaker 5: and I was like, well that's a departure. Yeah, so
- 40:51Speaker 5: there's less singing.
- 40:52Speaker 1: I guess, you know, and took a choice here.
- 40:56Speaker 5: Yeah, but all of his like he makes me and
- 41:01Speaker 5: believe he's insane and worried and all the thing. You're like, huh,
- 41:05Speaker 5: Like I just kept looking at the screen like that,
- 41:07Speaker 5: that's psychotic what you're doing. That's good, you're doing it.
- 41:10Speaker 1: You're doing it.
- 41:11Speaker 5: But I thought, yeah, all of his little isms and
- 41:13Speaker 5: you're like, yeah, he doesn't think he's bad. He just
- 41:16Speaker 5: is doing the thing he knows to do, right, So
- 41:20Speaker 5: that's it. And yeah it was but it was great performance.
- 41:25Speaker 5: I believed all of it, even though it was ridiculous.
- 41:27Speaker 1: Yeah, so agreed. YEP obviously picked him as well. So
- 41:33Speaker 1: impressive he's he's got to be up there as one
- 41:36Speaker 1: of the best actors of all time. He has one
- 41:40Speaker 1: of the best American accents I've ever heard, And I
- 41:43Speaker 1: remember being shocked when I saw him in an interview
- 41:47Speaker 1: and found out he was British. I just had no idea.
- 41:49Speaker 5: Oh yeah, for so long he did something with Oh yeah,
- 41:54Speaker 5: I did The Dark Knight with Gary Oldman. So if
- 41:56Speaker 5: here two of those guys and you're.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Like, what, yeah, that's not your voice.
- 42:01Speaker 5: How do you get around that? That's so problematic? Yeah,
- 42:05Speaker 5: but it's pretty contense.
- 42:07Speaker 1: But yeah, he has to do a lot in this movie.
- 42:08Speaker 1: He narrates a film. He has some pretty long monologues.
- 42:12Speaker 1: He plays an emotionless sociopath really well, yeah, really really well.
- 42:19Speaker 5: Well, if your accented, your accent comes out when you're
- 42:23Speaker 5: you know, real mad or like overly emotional. So playing
- 42:27Speaker 5: a psycho where you'd have to keep it all restraints
- 42:29Speaker 5: seems like an easy kind of deal. But sure easier
- 42:31Speaker 5: than just being flying off the handle and everything, you know.
- 42:34Speaker 5: I just, yeah, I would never have known that he
- 42:37Speaker 5: was not an American.
- 42:39Speaker 3: It's crazy that, yeah, I mean, it's a it's a
- 42:42Speaker 3: clean sweep as far as I'm concerned all the same
- 42:45Speaker 3: things you guys said. I thought he particularly did a
- 42:47Speaker 3: good job both masking when he was trying to act normal,
- 42:52Speaker 3: like that felt so unsettling in such a real way
- 42:55Speaker 3: that that it was really great. And then, just like
- 42:57Speaker 3: we said up top, like the sort of like visible
- 43:01Speaker 3: but slow unraveling of him as a person, you know,
- 43:05Speaker 3: as he's like going through it is really interesting. So
- 43:09Speaker 3: I just thought he was magnificent in this. Honestly, it's
- 43:11Speaker 3: really really good.
- 43:12Speaker 5: I found it was really interesting that he's not very
- 43:14Speaker 5: good at hiding it. It's just the eighties, we're real
- 43:17Speaker 5: bad at finding you out. Yes, the whole thing is
- 43:19Speaker 5: like he's like, you know, when he's being interviewed by
- 43:23Speaker 5: the Foe's character and he's like sweating and obviously stumbling,
- 43:26Speaker 5: and I'm like, why aren't you catching any of this?
- 43:28Speaker 5: You're not a good cop, right, Like he's terrible at
- 43:31Speaker 5: being you know, He's like, no, I can always get
- 43:34Speaker 5: you lying. Okay, what's the topic of discussion? Like it's
- 43:37Speaker 5: just nothing kind of lines up and just yeah, you know.
- 43:41Speaker 5: So it's it's funny that you could see like he
- 43:44Speaker 5: get away with it in that time because it's kind
- 43:47Speaker 5: of like that.
- 43:48Speaker 3: It's totally yeah.
- 43:50Speaker 5: Interesting, a lot of it.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Well, let's go talk about the rest of his crew.
- 43:54Speaker 1: It's pretty stacked cast here.
- 43:56Speaker 3: Let's talk about the Tucci, the tucciard.
- 44:00Speaker 1: To Tea.
- 44:02Speaker 5: Yeah, me, I got as hard. It was hard got
- 44:08Speaker 5: I'm gonna say, Okay, I got Reese Witherspoon as mine
- 44:13Speaker 5: because I really don't don't like her in any way,
- 44:17Speaker 5: and she really got that. I mean I like her
- 44:19Speaker 5: as an actress, I don't like her character. She really
- 44:22Speaker 5: is irritating and very obnoxious and perfect so like all
- 44:26Speaker 5: of her fake little leg Mary Xmas like, I just
- 44:29Speaker 5: I'm like, she plays that kind of rich and titled
- 44:32Speaker 5: thing very very well in this and I thought there's
- 44:35Speaker 5: a lot of funny moments with that, and she just,
- 44:37Speaker 5: uh it was it was great to watch him bounce
- 44:40Speaker 5: off of her and he's falling apart and she barely
- 44:42Speaker 5: notices and all this stuff is you know, it's like
- 44:45Speaker 5: you feel bad for her when he's like not paying attention,
- 44:47Speaker 5: and then eventually you're like, I guess it's fine, you know.
- 44:51Speaker 1: But.
- 44:53Speaker 5: Yeah, it's their fine. They're not really together like they are.
- 44:57Speaker 5: But yeah, I had her as my main one, but
- 45:00Speaker 5: I had a hard time passing up Matt Ross.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Dude, that is who I was going to pick.
- 45:06Speaker 5: Yeah, then we love him in uh there we go, Dvinah.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Yeah, all I could think of was Holy the whole time, exactly.
- 45:22Speaker 1: He is so good in this. He really stood out
- 45:26Speaker 1: in this last rewatch for me. I thought he was
- 45:29Speaker 1: really funny and it kind of felt like he was
- 45:31Speaker 1: the only one that really paid attention to Patrick Bateman,
- 45:35Speaker 1: and then it turned out it was because he was
- 45:38Speaker 1: in love with him.
- 45:39Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, it was really funny. He's like the only one.
- 45:42Speaker 5: You're like, he's getting just bashed by everybody in that
- 45:45Speaker 5: whole clan, but he's the only like he's the only
- 45:47Speaker 5: kind of decent almost guy. Like he's still like, you know,
- 45:52Speaker 5: flashy and materialistic. But you're like, maybe because he thinks
- 45:56Speaker 5: he has to. I don't know, it's not it's not
- 45:58Speaker 5: his fault, like you're just kind of rooting for him, like, oh,
- 46:00Speaker 5: poor guy. Yeah, his heart kind of thing.
- 46:03Speaker 1: Yeah, he was fun for sure.
- 46:05Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great pick.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Yeah, what did you have, Bukes?
- 46:09Speaker 3: Uh so I had, Uh, let's see Willem Dafoe. I
- 46:15Speaker 3: love him anyway, he was fun to see him. I
- 46:17Speaker 3: forgot that he was in it even, which is funny.
- 46:21Speaker 3: He didn't do what Ton to be honest like, and
- 46:24Speaker 3: this is one of his least unhinged parts. I feel like, yeah,
- 46:28Speaker 3: which is kind of funny for him, But he's always
- 46:31Speaker 3: fun to see.
- 46:32Speaker 1: It was hard to get a read on him in this,
- 46:34Speaker 1: like I couldn't tell if he really if he thought
- 46:36Speaker 1: that Patrick Bateman was a real suspect or not, or
- 46:39Speaker 1: if he was just kind of doing like his due diligence,
- 46:42Speaker 1: like had to interview him and stuff.
- 46:45Speaker 3: There's some interesting trivia about that later that we'll talk about.
- 46:49Speaker 3: Because I'm with you one hundred percent. I was like,
- 46:51Speaker 3: what is he like? Does this guy just suckers he
- 46:54Speaker 3: coked out of his mind? Or what's going on? What's happening?
- 46:58Speaker 3: Where is does he know he just.
- 47:00Speaker 5: Cares like it's yeah right, or just that like apathetic
- 47:07Speaker 5: you know.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Yes, yes, Justin Threw was also fun to see. He
- 47:13Speaker 1: was the funniest of the like Wall Street Bros.
- 47:16Speaker 3: Yes underc I also think it's funny that a few
- 47:20Speaker 3: of these people have been in like some of the
- 47:22Speaker 3: funniest comedies we've had since Silicon Valley. Justin Threau was
- 47:27Speaker 3: in Parks and rec for a hot minute.
- 47:29Speaker 1: You know, he's done a bunch of things.
- 47:31Speaker 3: You know, just very silly. But that was fun. And
- 47:35Speaker 3: Josh Lucas I thought was pretty funny in his He
- 47:38Speaker 3: had a small part too, but just to Schmarmy, you know,
- 47:42Speaker 3: one of his dud.
- 47:43Speaker 1: Don't usually see him in that, so that was interesting.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, it was kind of fun.
- 47:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:51Speaker 1: I felt so bad for Chloe Savigny's gene and I
- 47:55Speaker 1: don't know how you say your last thing.
- 47:56Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 47:57Speaker 1: I don't think it's gotta be. I don't think.
- 48:00Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't want to say that.
- 48:02Speaker 1: But I was so glad to see that he spared
- 48:06Speaker 1: her because she was so sweet and just kind of
- 48:08Speaker 1: the like likable person in the whole.
- 48:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm like, yeah, that guy's the only one. He's
- 48:15Speaker 5: almost okay. I'm like, yeah, Jean's great though, and I
- 48:18Speaker 5: she existed and I was like, okay, that's why she's
- 48:21Speaker 5: not bad, right, Yeah, she's so sweet, and yeah, that
- 48:27Speaker 5: whole scene is ridiculous.
- 48:28Speaker 1: That whole scene is great. Another crazy scene was with
- 48:32Speaker 1: Jared Leto, and that was crazy that he was that role.
- 48:36Speaker 5: He's different, like I don't see it. I didn't see
- 48:39Speaker 5: him doing that kind of thing before either, Right, he's
- 48:41Speaker 5: always like very opposite, like a the punk with the
- 48:45Speaker 5: artistic or you know, he's not like, hey doesn't have that,
- 48:50Speaker 5: And I'm like, that's fun to see.
- 48:52Speaker 1: He's funny, though.
- 48:53Speaker 3: He's in two movies where he just gets absolutely obliterated.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Yeah, really dark movies.
- 48:58Speaker 3: Pretty dark.
- 49:00Speaker 5: Uh yeah, that's all life, I guess, hey.
- 49:06Speaker 1: Now, And it was fun seeing Samantha Mathis as Courtney
- 49:11Speaker 1: and she was just kind of drugged out of her
- 49:13Speaker 1: mind the whole.
- 49:14Speaker 3: Time, basically the entire time.
- 49:16Speaker 5: Yeah yeah yeah, sleep at the restaurant. Yeah, that's so
- 49:24Speaker 5: hard to pull off, like you know, kind of like
- 49:26Speaker 5: be intoxicate or life. It's so hard.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Like she did a good job, very good.
- 49:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 49:33Speaker 3: I love that.
- 49:33Speaker 1: Are we here?
- 49:35Speaker 5: Yeah yeah, yeah, we're here. Yeah I feel bad.
- 49:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:41Speaker 1: That was that was all I wrote down, though, which
- 49:43Speaker 1: is a lot. That's a lot of people, that's so
- 49:45Speaker 1: many Yeah, yep, agree, sweet, Well let's pick some of
- 49:49Speaker 1: these scenes. Let's choose the dingus. So it's quite simple,
- 49:56Speaker 1: really dingus, dingus.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I could talk about my dingas all.
- 50:00Speaker 5: I'm going to kiss you.
- 50:01Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you got.
- 50:06Speaker 5: It's hard to pick. Well, I'll just go a couple
- 50:09Speaker 5: of the one. So man, uh the business cards for
- 50:14Speaker 5: me I talk about all the time. It's I can't
- 50:18Speaker 5: get over how ridiculous that him sweating and like that.
- 50:23Speaker 5: That's that's bone, Like, it's.
- 50:24Speaker 1: Pretty masterful filmmaking. I think, yeah, because we should not
- 50:29Speaker 1: be that invested in.
- 50:32Speaker 3: All the same.
- 50:33Speaker 5: Yeah, they're like all.
- 50:34Speaker 3: These cards are the same.
- 50:35Speaker 5: Yeah, so to the point where I wouldn't be surprised
- 50:37Speaker 5: if they were the same. Like it's like are they though,
- 50:40Speaker 5: like are they the same? But that was the most
- 50:43Speaker 5: fun I quote that all the time. Oh my god,
- 50:45Speaker 5: he has the water. I say it all the time.
- 50:49Speaker 5: I do that. But I think there's two Okay, So well,
- 50:55Speaker 5: we were talking about the opening morning routine scene where
- 50:58Speaker 5: he's just describing his whole thing. I thought that was
- 51:01Speaker 5: so funny. I was like, I also shouldn't care about that.
- 51:03Speaker 5: You're like reading a list, it's like reading instructions, and
- 51:06Speaker 5: you're like somehow totally captivated by you telling me your
- 51:09Speaker 5: ridiculous multi lotion routine and I'm like, you know, how
- 51:14Speaker 5: do you do that.
- 51:17Speaker 2: That?
- 51:19Speaker 1: But yeah, and those monologues are pretty the monologue and
- 51:22Speaker 1: I guess it's narration, but yeah, the music.
- 51:28Speaker 5: Like he's like he's an infomercial talking about the albums
- 51:31Speaker 5: because that's what he knows. He's like, I don't know
- 51:32Speaker 5: how to feel, but I've heard that this is what
- 51:34Speaker 5: it is. So he talks about these you know, Whitney
- 51:38Speaker 5: Houston song and he's like, yeah, the most powerful song.
- 51:40Speaker 5: I was like, you don't you don't know what this,
- 51:42Speaker 5: You don't know what feelings are? What are you doing?
- 51:44Speaker 3: Ye?
- 51:45Speaker 5: But maybe laugh. I loved all of those. My favorite
- 51:49Speaker 5: little detail, I think is when he gets confronted by
- 51:54Speaker 5: uh Matt Rutt with a guy what's his name?
- 51:57Speaker 3: In the movie.
- 52:00Speaker 1: Uh Lewis Lewis Brothers.
- 52:02Speaker 5: Lewis Brothers. He gets confronted in the bathroom and he's
- 52:05Speaker 5: like about to strangle woman. He turns around and he
- 52:07Speaker 5: like kisses his hand. Yeah, when he's so flustered he's
- 52:10Speaker 5: washing his gloved hands and makes me laugh so much.
- 52:14Speaker 5: And then having to walk out.
- 52:17Speaker 1: You know, it's like where you go? Where are you going?
- 52:22Speaker 5: I have to return some video. I'm like, what is that?
- 52:25Speaker 1: That's such an.
- 52:28Speaker 5: Is that your code for I have to go kill somebody? Maybe?
- 52:30Speaker 1: Probably seems like it.
- 52:32Speaker 5: That's what it is. Yeah, those were I would say, Yeah,
- 52:36Speaker 5: business cards for me, the monologues about music and the
- 52:40Speaker 5: gloves thing I talk about all the time.
- 52:42Speaker 1: All ye, I would be fine picking the business cards scene.
- 52:46Speaker 1: I had that as my runner up. But the one
- 52:48Speaker 1: that I think of with this movie is the Huey
- 52:50Speaker 1: Lewis Jared Leto scene. Absolutely.
- 52:53Speaker 5: I mean, it's unbelievable.
- 52:55Speaker 1: It's a pretty iconic scene at this point. Did you
- 52:58Speaker 1: guys ever see the Your Die skit? Yeah? I don't
- 53:02Speaker 1: think so, dude, you need to watch it.
- 53:07Speaker 3: It is have it.
- 53:08Speaker 1: It is Huey Lewis and weird Al Yankovic and Huey
- 53:13Speaker 1: Lewis is being the Patrick Bateman character, and it's amazing.
- 53:18Speaker 1: It's so because weird out. I'm not gonna I'm not
- 53:22Speaker 1: gonna you.
- 53:24Speaker 5: Details, and I'm like, no, just watch it.
- 53:26Speaker 1: It is so funny, very funny. But it's so funny
- 53:31Speaker 1: just that it's Huey Lewis anyway, because he's featured in
- 53:34Speaker 1: the scene. But yeah, that seems incredible. Oh man, yeah,
- 53:40Speaker 1: so I probably, But i'd be good with the business
- 53:43Speaker 1: card scene. What do you got bugs?
- 53:45Speaker 3: The two top ones that I had were the business
- 53:47Speaker 3: card scene and then the Huey Lewis scene on Board
- 53:51Speaker 3: for sure, I just real quick. The part I love
- 53:55Speaker 3: about the Huey Lewis one is he is so manic
- 53:59Speaker 3: because he's fine getting to do it. You know, in
- 54:02Speaker 3: that moment, it's just really fun and infectious. You know
- 54:06Speaker 3: he's going to do this awful thing and you're kind
- 54:08Speaker 3: of like, all right, here we go. His weird little
- 54:10Speaker 3: like walk he does. He has his raincoat on, so funny.
- 54:16Speaker 5: He's so good that keeps happening. Like the juxtaposition of
- 54:19Speaker 5: the music and his face is like the walking on
- 54:22Speaker 5: sunshine is the funniest thing to me. When he's just
- 54:25Speaker 5: it's like, you.
- 54:30Speaker 3: Know, it most like clingly sweet song, so great.
- 54:35Speaker 5: He's just dead inside. It makes me laugh.
- 54:38Speaker 1: A runner up scene for me is and you kind
- 54:41Speaker 1: of said it when you said he was just talking
- 54:42Speaker 1: about the music, but specifically the Phil Collins scene. Yes,
- 54:46Speaker 1: because he's explaining Genesis in their music while also setting
- 54:51Speaker 1: up like a giant eighties video camera and explaining what
- 54:55Speaker 1: he wants the sex workers to do. As he's explaining
- 54:59Speaker 1: Jenny Sis.
- 55:00Speaker 5: Oh yeah, it's just ridiculous. The wildly vulgar stuff. He's
- 55:03Speaker 5: saying in the middle of like I didn't really understand there,
- 55:08Speaker 5: and I'm laughing because I'm into all this like complex
- 55:10Speaker 5: stuff and I know the weird time sinnastures and all
- 55:12Speaker 5: the stuff that like you can't dance to. So I'm
- 55:15Speaker 5: listening to him explain it and I'm like, yeah, that's
- 55:17Speaker 5: what it is for people who don't who just like
- 55:19Speaker 5: dance like they don't. So when he's like getting into
- 55:22Speaker 5: is like until they came out with their like more
- 55:24Speaker 5: widely accepted album, which it's like more narrowly, He's like,
- 55:29Speaker 5: so I feel like it's a better artistic Like he's
- 55:31Speaker 5: basically saying, like they killed off all the artistic parts
- 55:33Speaker 5: and now it's really good.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I'm like that now it's good because it's popular.
- 55:36Speaker 3: Yeah, it's commercially acceptable, so we're good now.
- 55:39Speaker 5: And I'm like, Okay, that's exactly right.
- 55:42Speaker 3: That's good, which of course is what he cares about,
- 55:44Speaker 3: right because he can that is like tangible and he
- 55:47Speaker 3: can measure that.
- 55:48Speaker 5: Yeah, he can't. He can't express himself for real. He
- 55:51Speaker 5: has to fit in, right.
- 55:52Speaker 1: So but that coupled with you know, hey, Veronica, maybe
- 55:57Speaker 1: you should start dancing now and then still doing was
- 56:00Speaker 1: just really great, really great.
- 56:03Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah, and it's kind of a long scene to like, yeah,
- 56:07Speaker 3: he has to really keep going. It's pretty good.
- 56:09Speaker 5: Yeah. And he never looks at them at all, like
- 56:12Speaker 5: he's just constantly doing yeah, watching him, and.
- 56:19Speaker 1: They're not important to him. Man laugh, Well, I would
- 56:27Speaker 1: love to. Why don't we do a double Let's do
- 56:30Speaker 1: the business card Huey Lewis.
- 56:32Speaker 3: Yeah, thing has been selected the d D.
- 56:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm gonna keep doing it. I gotta I like it.
- 56:40Speaker 1: I love I love acronym. Uh. Well, let's let's go
- 56:43Speaker 1: to some of these quotes and let's show the money. Yeah,
- 56:46Speaker 1: show me the money, show me.
- 56:49Speaker 5: Show me money that you made.
- 56:53Speaker 3: Show me.
- 56:55Speaker 5: Yeah. Yeah, se hold.
- 57:06Speaker 3: On, sin works, Uh, throw some of these quotes out
- 57:15Speaker 3: at them.
- 57:16Speaker 5: I will throw them out, all right. So obviously the
- 57:20Speaker 5: his whole thing with the business card. Look at that
- 57:24Speaker 5: subtle off white coloring. It's tasteful thickness of it. He's
- 57:28Speaker 5: like barely hanging on. Oh my god, there's even a
- 57:31Speaker 5: watermark that is ridiculous. I love all of that stuff
- 57:37Speaker 5: where he's panicking over the most mundane stuff like his
- 57:40Speaker 5: I'm on the verge of tears by the time we
- 57:42Speaker 5: arrived at a spas, since I'm positive we won't have
- 57:44Speaker 5: a decent table, but we do, and relief washes over
- 57:47Speaker 5: me in an awesome wave, and you're like, we don't care.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Yeah, we don't.
- 57:53Speaker 5: We don't think that's very important. I don't know so,
- 57:57Speaker 5: And just like him, the stuff that he says that
- 58:00Speaker 5: they miss here, like, yes, the bar that first one,
- 58:04Speaker 5: you're ugly. I want to stab you to death and
- 58:07Speaker 5: then play around with your blood.
- 58:08Speaker 3: Play around with your Blood's.
- 58:10Speaker 5: Believable thing to say, that's what.
- 58:12Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 58:12Speaker 5: At first, I'm like, oh, he's okay, okay, he'll be fine.
- 58:18Speaker 5: All of the stuff with him and Evelyn. Yes, when
- 58:23Speaker 5: he's like in the limo on the way to that,
- 58:26Speaker 5: he's you know, trying to listen to the new Palmer
- 58:30Speaker 5: tape in my ear. And when she gets done saying it,
- 58:34Speaker 5: and she's finally like, we should do it, you know,
- 58:38Speaker 5: do what, you know, get married, have a wedding. No,
- 58:43Speaker 5: I can't take the time of work. I'm like, he
- 58:45Speaker 5: doesn't do anything.
- 58:46Speaker 3: He doesn't do he doesn't do any work, which I
- 58:48Speaker 3: think is really great.
- 58:50Speaker 1: All his work stuff is is like, yeah, he's just.
- 58:58Speaker 5: His and like in the restaurant when he's drawing the
- 59:00Speaker 5: chainsaw lady on the crayons or what, and he's just
- 59:05Speaker 5: breaking up with her and she's not. You know, he
- 59:07Speaker 5: says things like I'm sorry, you're just not terribly important
- 59:10Speaker 5: to me. What about the past? We never really shared one,
- 59:13Speaker 5: like all the hardest things you imagine saying that to
- 59:16Speaker 5: someone you bring up with. You're like, I don't think
- 59:18Speaker 5: I can do that. When he has like he's looking down,
- 59:22Speaker 5: he's like, I'm sorry, but my need to engage in
- 59:24Speaker 5: homicidal behavior on a massive scale cannot be corrected. But
- 59:27Speaker 5: I have no other way to fulfill my needs. And
- 59:29Speaker 5: she's just no. It's like I don't know that they
- 59:32Speaker 5: don't hear, like if they just blocking it out and
- 59:34Speaker 5: they're like, well that doesn't seem right, so I'm not
- 59:36Speaker 5: going to hear it. Or did he not say it?
- 59:38Speaker 5: Like I don't know where any of that is some
- 59:42Speaker 5: of them maybe and her stuff, you know, when she
- 59:48Speaker 5: says Mary xmis I hate it a lot. I hated someone.
- 59:51Speaker 5: I'm like Mary xmus Patrick mistletoe alert and I'm like, nope,
- 59:57Speaker 5: no alert.
- 59:59Speaker 1: Oh what a cutie?
- 1:00:01Speaker 5: Uh feed me a stray cat really got me going.
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: So much. That scared me.
- 1:00:10Speaker 5: Yeah, it was like trying to just arm a time.
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: And then he puts a gun to it, Like what
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: do you do?
- 1:00:17Speaker 3: This is what's the plan here?
- 1:00:19Speaker 5: I understand what you Yeah? Uh, that's it. I mean
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: there's you know when he's talking about random serial killers,
- 1:00:27Speaker 5: serial killers and nobody. Yeah, the what Dean said about
- 1:00:31Speaker 5: When I see a pretty girl walking down the street,
- 1:00:34Speaker 5: I think two things. One part wants to take her out,
- 1:00:36Speaker 5: talk to her, be real nice and sweet and treat
- 1:00:39Speaker 5: her right. What did the other part think what her
- 1:00:41Speaker 5: head would look like on a stick.
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: He starts laughing, and everybody's just like, yeah, yeah, that's
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: so funny.
- 1:00:50Speaker 5: That's a few of the favorites.
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: There's plenty more, but there are plenty more. Yep, I
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: have to return some videotapes is one of the It
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: might be one of beauty. Beauty another one of the
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: things that they don't understand that he says. He says
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: a horrible thing. A club patron is like, so what
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: do you do? He's like, I'm into it. Well, murders
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: and executions mostly.
- 1:01:14Speaker 5: She's like do you like it?
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: It's like, well, it depends why well, most guys I
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: know who are in mergers and acquisitions really don't like
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: it that.
- 1:01:23Speaker 5: He's like, he's like kind of excited about she may
- 1:01:28Speaker 5: she understands.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: We can talk about this, No we can't. Another Reese
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: one that made me laugh is what does mister Grinch
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: want for Christmas? And don't say breast implants again, ridiculous,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: small detail, very fun. Lewis is all about I think
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: it's his suit and then he starts like touching him
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: and he's like, your compliment was sufficiently.
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: I like that.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: Man as he is just chopping up Paul Allen and
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: he's just screaming try getting a reservation at Dorsey and no,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: you've stupid bastards. Is amazing, really something that's incredible, really something.
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: And the last thing is during the Phil Collins thing,
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: I'll just do a little excerpt, especially songs like in
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: the Air Tonight and Against All Odds Sabrina. Don't just
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: stare at it, eat it. But I also think Phil
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: Collins works best with the confines of the group. Then
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: as a solo artist, and I stressed the word artist.
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: This is Susus Studio, A great, great song, a personal favorite,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: a personal.
- 1:02:50Speaker 3: So hard he's so impatient with them, and they're like,
- 1:02:53Speaker 3: I don't know what's happening, man, Yeah, it's so good.
- 1:02:58Speaker 5: Choose a robe not on.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Yes, I don't even know what. I'm just gonna hope
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: this is the right one. Yeah.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: I don't even like mustard.
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: That was all I had, though, What do you got?
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: Let's see, I've got to return some videotapes made me
- 1:03:17Speaker 3: laugh every time, just talk about like what people wouldn't
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: understand today, A regular thing for people to do back
- 1:03:26Speaker 3: in the day.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: Never I never had to cancel plans to that's fair.
- 1:03:32Speaker 5: Yeah. The one thing they could probably figure out is
- 1:03:35Speaker 5: that if you had to do that, it wouldn't be
- 1:03:36Speaker 5: an emergency. Yeah, I have to go.
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: When they're uh what they Oh, they're doing cocaine in
- 1:03:44Speaker 3: the bathroom, yes, where apparently no one is actually going
- 1:03:48Speaker 3: to the bathroom, and this whole thing.
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: He's just like, oh, this is sweetener. I want to
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: get high and not put it on my meal. Like
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: He's just like, it is weak. But I think if
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: we do a lot of it will still be okay.
- 1:04:03Speaker 3: It's really.
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: Well. And that guy next to them, I'm trying to
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: do some drugs. I'm sorry.
- 1:04:12Speaker 5: Yeah, like, oh, you guys are doing cocaine, then that's
- 1:04:15Speaker 5: what Yeah, you're.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: Yes, exactly, Okay, people get aggressive on cocaine.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: It turns out. I love when Justin throw is all like, oh, sorry,
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: man's steroids or whatever. Cocaine actually steroids.
- 1:04:32Speaker 5: Him coming back to the table, He's like, they don't
- 1:04:34Speaker 5: have a good bathroom do cocaine? Like whoever? Yeah, it's
- 1:04:37Speaker 5: so stupid.
- 1:04:40Speaker 2: Uh.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: The other one I had is when he's after they
- 1:04:44Speaker 3: I think it's after them murders and acquisition scale, ye,
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: the models And they go out to the car and
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: she's like, you think I'm dumb, don't you You think
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: all models are dumb? And he's like, I really don't.
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: It's like, yeah, that's okay, I don't mind. There's something
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: sweet about you. And it's like, oh, I think, but
- 1:05:04Speaker 3: you're not a great judge of character.
- 1:05:06Speaker 5: Right, there's not something sweet about him in no way.
- 1:05:09Speaker 5: There's nothing about this guy.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: And then you just see him playing with the lock
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: of hair the next.
- 1:05:17Speaker 5: Wonder what happened?
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: They never.
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Didn't we see her in her head? Yeah? Oh so
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: much darker movie.
- 1:05:29Speaker 5: But I thought that was like a weird I thought
- 1:05:31Speaker 5: I was like a cake.
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: You know, it's like, oh, it's an underlighted love situation.
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: Yeah, such a meet cute.
- 1:05:39Speaker 5: Cute meat.
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: I also love. I can't remember which of the like
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: douchebag guys said it, but when they were like, I
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: mean I'm really not hungry, but I'd like to have
- 1:05:48Speaker 3: reservations someplace, yes, I like yeah, yeah.
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: I was like, yeah, that's pretty great.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: I love that during the Pumpkin discussion. Yeah, he goes pumpkin,
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: You're dating a tumbling, tumbling dick weed. Yeah, that was
- 1:06:06Speaker 3: pretty great.
- 1:06:07Speaker 5: That's one of the things I learned about the whole
- 1:06:08Speaker 5: movie too. It's like all of the specials. The restaurants
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: are like child leg but sure rich Like it's like
- 1:06:17Speaker 5: the fried squid Ravioli, Like, it's like something about it's
- 1:06:20Speaker 5: like herb French fries, Like yeah, I don't know. It's
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: just stuff that you would find a diner. But they're
- 1:06:26Speaker 5: putting in this restaurant for five hundred and seventy dollars because.
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: It's right, you know, pretty reasonable.
- 1:06:31Speaker 5: Yeah, we're only at five seventy And I was like,
- 1:06:34Speaker 5: you're nope, that's not where that is pass. I uh
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: also wrote down the entire message that he leaves on
- 1:06:41Speaker 5: the voicemail is like, how do you act all of that? Yes?
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's where I thought he was gonna like
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: go into his British accent and.
- 1:06:50Speaker 3: Yeah that's you came in.
- 1:06:54Speaker 5: Yeah, kills a lot of people, like a lot of.
- 1:07:00Speaker 3: That was wild, hate some of their brains.
- 1:07:03Speaker 5: Yeah, quick, a little yeah anyway, Yeah, so pretty great,
- 1:07:12Speaker 5: He's okay, I guess you know.
- 1:07:14Speaker 3: Yeah, that was all I had though.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: I think for Queste, Well, great, let's go uh, let's
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: go to the crying game moments.
- 1:07:24Speaker 5: It should be pretty quick.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Yeah, zero zero.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: There's no way you cried at all.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: No, I didn't. Yeah, which I was. I was happy about.
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: I felt like that was too bad.
- 1:07:36Speaker 5: The only time you'd feel sad about this is like
- 1:07:38Speaker 5: if you decided that you had some similarities, you'd be
- 1:07:42Speaker 5: real worried. I have thought that I did carry duct
- 1:07:46Speaker 5: tape around my house thinking about oh no, oh, yeah,
- 1:07:54Speaker 5: what was that.
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Yeah that's not concerning at all. That's fine, But yeah
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: there was zero.
- 1:08:00Speaker 3: In this one.
- 1:08:01Speaker 5: Well that's great, that's great.
- 1:08:03Speaker 3: Let's find out honestly, let's move ahead to some movie Chibia.
- 1:08:07Speaker 3: Here the biggest single cost in the entirety of the
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: movie was purchasing the rights to the various songs he
- 1:08:14Speaker 3: used throughout, which I made sense and also was interesting.
- 1:08:18Speaker 5: Yeah, there in the topics. I wonder if they were like,
- 1:08:22Speaker 5: you're going to need to pay me a lot to.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: Use it for this, you know, yeah, right right, So yeah,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I think they said that. Whitney Houston said that they.
- 1:08:34Speaker 5: I was like, why is it? Yeah, Like, why is
- 1:08:35Speaker 5: it a saxophone rendition of her? Yep, because it's.
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: Gonna make sense, makes sense.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Interesting, let's see.
- 1:08:43Speaker 3: Looking. While looking for a way to create the character
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: of Patrick Bateman, Christian bale stumbled onto a Tom Cruise
- 1:08:49Speaker 3: appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman, and, according
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: to co direct co writer and director Mary Harren, bail
- 1:08:57Speaker 3: saw in Cruise this very intense, friendlyiness with nothing behind
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: the eyes, and Baille subsequently based the character of Bateman
- 1:09:05Speaker 3: on that. Interestingly, Tom Cruise is actually featured in the
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: original novel. He lives in the same apartment complex as Bateman,
- 1:09:13Speaker 3: and they meet in an elevator and he gets the
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: name of Cocktail wrong, calling it bartender.
- 1:09:18Speaker 5: That's funny.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: That was interesting, that's great, not a great comparison for
- 1:09:25Speaker 1: Tom cruise.
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: But he's doing fine, He's okay, he's okay.
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: I don't think that's funny. I can totally see that's yeah.
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: I was like, oh okay, I'm always like.
- 1:09:34Speaker 5: They're probably thinking that anyway, that's yeah.
- 1:09:36Speaker 3: I'll just great what you see easy.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Right now?
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: During production, Christian Bale followed the morning routine that his
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: character Patrick Bateman describes towards the beginning of the film.
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: So I just thought that was kind of funny that
- 1:09:56Speaker 3: he did that every morning.
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: His skin looked amazing, he did, he was glowing.
- 1:10:01Speaker 5: He was I can do one thousand now, yeah, I
- 1:10:05Speaker 5: can do a thousand.
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: Let's see. So Christian Bale, speaking of his great accent,
- 1:10:11Speaker 3: he spoke in the American accent offset at all times
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: throughout filming of this movie. At the rat party, he
- 1:10:17Speaker 3: began to speak in his native British accent, and a
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: lot of the crew thought that he was speaking that
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: way as a way of.
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: Preparing for his next role.
- 1:10:27Speaker 3: They were like, oh, he must be doing a different
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: movie next, so he's really starting it early. And they
- 1:10:32Speaker 3: were like shocked to find out.
- 1:10:34Speaker 5: That it's not just a little British, it's full on.
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: Oh yeah, very Welsh.
- 1:10:44Speaker 5: I think, well, thought, yeah, I know it something weirder
- 1:10:46Speaker 5: than it straight British.
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: I think it is Welsh because I think someone even
- 1:10:50Speaker 3: said you can almost hear Welsh come out in that scene.
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: You said Rob where you were expect the answer machine,
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: and they were like, he actually holds up pretty well.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: But I kept thinking that was where and I'm pretty
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: sure they said.
- 1:11:01Speaker 5: Well, it runs like a Welshman. Welshman.
- 1:11:06Speaker 3: The film had various problems with designer labels during production,
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: so Rudy agreed to allow Christian Bale to wear their clothes,
- 1:11:14Speaker 3: but not when the character was killing anyone. Rolex agreed
- 1:11:18Speaker 3: to anyone in the film could wear their watches except
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: for Bateman, hence the famous line from the book, don't
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: touch the Rolex had to be changed to don't touch
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: the watch when they were laying in bed.
- 1:11:27Speaker 5: Sure new balance was like, go ahead and wear shoes.
- 1:11:30Speaker 5: We don't care.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: Yeah, that's for us, all the publicity we can get, please.
- 1:11:37Speaker 3: And Perry Ellis provided the underwear at the last minute
- 1:11:40Speaker 3: after Calvin Klein pulled out of the project. So I
- 1:11:45Speaker 3: thought that was interesting. It's kind of like you can't
- 1:11:47Speaker 3: use an iPhone anymore. If you're the bad guy, you know. Like,
- 1:11:51Speaker 3: so if you ever see someone with an android in
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: a movie, look out, because they're probably going to murder someone.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: Funny.
- 1:11:57Speaker 3: Funny, Yeah, I think we learned that in Uh, they
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: definitely do that.
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: And carry On.
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: Was the first one I heard of where we learned
- 1:12:08Speaker 3: that or something. I think, okay, Ibe I'm wrong anyway,
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: but car.
- 1:12:12Speaker 5: Carrie was made in the seventies, so no Carrie on
- 1:12:17Speaker 5: ah like the like a dead carcass.
- 1:12:21Speaker 3: That's what I was going to say, look at you
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: by we finish sandwiches. Christian Bale insisted on getting Brett
- 1:12:30Speaker 3: Easton Ellis's approval for his portrayal before the filming and
- 1:12:35Speaker 3: arranged a meeting. Apparently, he showed up to the meeting
- 1:12:38Speaker 3: dressed and groomed as Bateman, even introducing himself as Patrick Bateman.
- 1:12:43Speaker 3: After ten minutes, Easton Ellis begged him to stop because
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: his hands were shaking and he couldn't take it anymore,
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: and Easton Ellis said it was the single creepiest moment of.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: His entire life.
- 1:12:55Speaker 5: So wowust have been on board and be horrible to
- 1:12:59Speaker 5: meet the guy? Right, No, no, thank you, no, thank you, daddy,
- 1:13:03Speaker 5: thank you.
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: Let's see, this is pretty hysterical. Christian Bale was warned
- 1:13:13Speaker 3: by many that it would would be career suicide for
- 1:13:16Speaker 3: him to play the lead in a film like this
- 1:13:19Speaker 3: I get it though, which only made him more eager
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: to take the part right esportually for him, the opposite
- 1:13:25Speaker 3: turned out to be true. As we've all learned. He
- 1:13:27Speaker 3: got a bunch of breakthrough roles after that Terminator Batman, Yeah, Batman,
- 1:13:33Speaker 3: as I believe right, and he.
- 1:13:35Speaker 5: Did Machinist Fighter the Machinist like and then that Ford
- 1:13:40Speaker 5: versus Ferrari is unbelievable too.
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: But it was so much better than it had any
- 1:13:45Speaker 3: right to be.
- 1:13:46Speaker 5: Yeah, I don't care about I was like, I don't care.
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: About same, Like we all had that same feeling.
- 1:13:51Speaker 5: This is the best.
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: It was great.
- 1:13:53Speaker 3: This is awesome.
- 1:13:55Speaker 5: When he to think that he went from that to
- 1:13:57Speaker 5: Machinist back to Batman, like he lost, gained and lost
- 1:14:00Speaker 5: one hundred pounds.
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: For both, and you're like, huh, he did that for
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: Vice too.
- 1:14:07Speaker 3: He had to get a bunch of weight. Well, that's right,
- 1:14:09Speaker 3: I forgot about that.
- 1:14:10Speaker 5: Talks about like hating, He's like, I'm just so tired
- 1:14:12Speaker 5: of pies.
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: I don't.
- 1:14:14Speaker 5: It's just eating so much pie.
- 1:14:16Speaker 3: So much he's didn't he say in one thing, he
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: put a piece of pie in a milkshake or something
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: as far as right, I.
- 1:14:23Speaker 5: Think, how fun. You're like, I get to do this.
- 1:14:26Speaker 5: Let's go ahead. Yeah, he's like living the supersize me. Yeah,
- 1:14:33Speaker 5: I get to do it.
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: Fat man's dreams. Let's see to block the three way
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: sex scene with two prostitutes, co writer and director Mary
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: Harron and Christian Bale watched X rated tapes apparently, uh and.
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: In her commentary, no, no, no, it's homework. I'm research
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: for That's what I was doing. You want to watch too,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I guess, But she says that he also made stick
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: figure drawings of the positions he thought would work best.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: This is what I get.
- 1:15:06Speaker 5: Which one is me, the one with the circles.
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: This is where I learned.
- 1:15:10Speaker 3: I've been prepared for movies my whole life. I guess.
- 1:15:18Speaker 5: That's good, clean, that's hilarious.
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: I thought this was great. The head that appears in
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: the refrigerator was achieved simply by having her stick her
- 1:15:28Speaker 3: head through the fridges shelves. Yeah, like make a you know,
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: look at a hole, just put.
- 1:15:38Speaker 5: How long can you hold your breath?
- 1:15:39Speaker 3: Let's put you so funny. Yeah, it's all the dancing
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: that he did when he had the acts and was murdering. Yeah,
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: that was all improvised, which is kind of fun. I
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: thought that was great. I loved that this is not
- 1:15:54Speaker 3: an exit behind him in the closing scene if you
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: saw that over his shoulder. But that is apparently the
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: last words of the novel as well, so that's kind
- 1:16:03Speaker 3: of homage between the two. That was neat.
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: I didn't notice that. I don't think.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: Also, apparently the novel is like way crazier than this movie,
- 1:16:12Speaker 3: if you can believe that.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: So I do believe that.
- 1:16:15Speaker 5: They're like they can't film it. They just can't do it.
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: Not doing that, We're not doing that.
- 1:16:21Speaker 3: I'm so sorry. And the last one I have is
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Christian Bale's frenzied confession to his lawyer down you know,
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: on the phone, when he says he's the serial killer.
- 1:16:33Speaker 5: And all that.
- 1:16:34Speaker 3: It was filmed in fourteen takes, and the director kept
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: pressing Bail to do another take as he improved with
- 1:16:41Speaker 3: each one, and he was just drinking cappuccinos the whole time.
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: I guess why he was doing it. So I thought
- 1:16:48Speaker 3: that was cool. Oh, and I'm sorry. I do have
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: a last one that I forgot to mention. It is
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: the we talked about Willem Dafoe and that scene and
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: not quite being sure like what he thought of him.
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: They had Willem Dafoe film all those scenes three different times,
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: each one where he believed he was guilty, one where
- 1:17:07Speaker 3: he believed he wasn't guilty, and one where he wasn't sure,
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: and they spiced them all together. So that's like part
- 1:17:13Speaker 3: of it is you don't know he's not consistent the
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: whole time with what he's thinking about what he's saying.
- 1:17:20Speaker 3: So I was like, oh, that makes sense because it
- 1:17:22Speaker 3: felt really confusing.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Yeah, and we didn't know what he was thinking.
- 1:17:27Speaker 3: I thought that was kind of neat. That was all
- 1:17:30Speaker 3: I had though this time.
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: Nice, well, I did see. After the novel was originally
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: optioned in nineteen ninety one, Brett Easton Ellis himself was
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: set to write the script for director Stuart Gordon, with
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Johnny Depp starring as Patrick Bateman. Oh. Gordon wanted to
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: do the film in black and white and stick as
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: close to the book as possible, meaning a guaranteed x rating.
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: After the project fell through, David Cronenberg replaced Gordon with
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: a Brad Pitt set to star Wow, but that project
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: also failed to get off the ground, So that would
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: have been crazy.
- 1:18:08Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: I feel like they both probably could have done it right.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: They could have done it. Apparently, Ian McGregor was offered
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: the role, but Christian Bale personally urged him to decline.
- 1:18:20Speaker 3: I wouldn't take it.
- 1:18:21Speaker 1: That sounds like a big role. Yeah, I don't think
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: you want to do that. There's a Christian what's that acts?
- 1:18:27Speaker 5: You got there?
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: There was a long list of all the different directors
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: and people who are up for it, but ultimately DiCaprio, yeah,
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: was really close to making it, but he was asking
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: twenty one million dollars to play the lead, forcing the
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: budget up to forty million, and he ended up quitting
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: and Christian Bale resumed the role. The budget went back
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: down for more reasonable seven million. Oh well, so yeah,
- 1:19:02Speaker 1: the film ended up being successful because they got bail
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: in there and it was less money. It would have
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: flopped otherwise. Well, I mean maybe, ye, who knows, maybe
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: people would have seen it for DiCaprio, But yeah, that
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: was what I had.
- 1:19:17Speaker 3: Oh yeah, very cool. Did you have anything?
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: We didn't say, Chatham what I found interesting.
- 1:19:24Speaker 5: I went further after seeing that, like when he met
- 1:19:29Speaker 5: Brett Easton Ellis as Patrick Bateman. I went on later
- 1:19:33Speaker 5: and it says that he the author based that character
- 1:19:36Speaker 5: on his own father, and I was like, so if that,
- 1:19:40Speaker 5: he seems like a good guy. But it makes that
- 1:19:44Speaker 5: make way more sense. It's like, I can't take this.
- 1:19:46Speaker 5: You need to stop totally. If you're if you're you know,
- 1:19:49Speaker 5: if you grew up all that why he was so, yeah,
- 1:19:54Speaker 5: it would be bad anyway, but if you have that
- 1:19:56Speaker 5: kind of like personally, that'd be rough. Thanks, But yeah,
- 1:20:03Speaker 5: that I had, and I remember seeing I picked up
- 1:20:09Speaker 5: on it because I'd seen this. And then when Dexter
- 1:20:11Speaker 5: came around he in the show, he like gave a
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: fake name a couple of times, and it was like
- 1:20:17Speaker 5: he gave Patrick Bateman as his name, and I was like, sure,
- 1:20:20Speaker 5: that's funny, that's funny, and I'm laughing and nobody gets it.
- 1:20:23Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, well, where am I?
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:20:27Speaker 5: They said that something. The DVD commentary, co writer director
- 1:20:32Speaker 5: Mary Harron says that during the shower scene with Patrick Pateman,
- 1:20:36Speaker 5: all of the women on set gathered around to watch
- 1:20:38Speaker 5: him take a show, and I was like, all the
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: women I'd be watching look at him like a perfectly
- 1:20:45Speaker 5: sculpted human being, Like that'd be I'm like, how are
- 1:20:47Speaker 5: you doing that?
- 1:20:49Speaker 3: You know?
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: One thousand crunches?
- 1:20:51Speaker 5: Yeah, it makes sense. Reading another inspiration for his perform
- 1:21:00Speaker 5: Horman's Nicholas Cage and Vampire Kiss. I was like, okay,
- 1:21:03Speaker 5: like the fact that he saw comfortable. If you're like,
- 1:21:06Speaker 5: you get anything close to Nicholas Cage uncomfortable, that makes
- 1:21:09Speaker 5: you're basing it on that guy, Like okay, yeah, I
- 1:21:12Speaker 5: can see how you're getting there because it's not comfy.
- 1:21:16Speaker 5: But yeah, that's about it.
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: I think, nice, nice, Well, will there be a sequel?
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Judgment Day? There was a sequel? It was called American
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Psycho to all American Girl really never seen it. The
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: stars Meela Cunis and William Shatner, and it sounds amazing.
- 1:21:37Speaker 5: Yeah, I think you should see it. And I don't
- 1:21:41Speaker 5: think it's good.
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: If the rating was not high, no, but.
- 1:21:46Speaker 5: I mean yeah, I was like, what are you doing?
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: But wow?
- 1:21:50Speaker 5: Then I was like, wait, what are you doing? Then
- 1:21:53Speaker 5: I have to watch it because her and Shatner, You're
- 1:21:55Speaker 5: never gonna convince me. I can't watch them with him
- 1:21:57Speaker 5: in it, so yeah, he's unbelievable.
- 1:22:00Speaker 1: Uh yeah, it's not.
- 1:22:02Speaker 5: I mean I could, it's no, Nope, but there's no.
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Chance it's good.
- 1:22:06Speaker 5: No, but you definitely watch it.
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: Yeah, huh, that's right.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Right.
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: Well, do you guys want to play a game?
- 1:22:12Speaker 5: I do want to play games?
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: Yeah? Good, because I made a starting five for you guys.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: You know how it works. I'm gonna give you five
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: actors from a film when you know you're going to
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: ring in with your name. If you get it wrong,
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: no negative points, but you won't be able to guess
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: again for that movie. If their actors' names remaining, you
- 1:22:28Speaker 1: can guess those for a point each. The other person
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: can steal if you get any of those names wrong.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: And all of these films have something in common. When
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: you know the theme, you can ring in at any
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: time for a point. And it might have something to
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: do with the movie we just talked about. Hop don't
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: do all of it.
- 1:22:47Speaker 5: No, you can't afford it.
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: You can't afford it, certainly not. Are you guys ready?
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: Yeah, don't do all of it.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: Don't do it.
- 1:22:56Speaker 5: Stop.
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: I think those too many notes make it minor, alright.
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: Number one. The first name Carrie Washington.
- 1:23:09Speaker 4: Oh.
- 1:23:11Speaker 1: Yes. The second name is Samuel L. Jackson. The third
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: name is Leonardo DiCaprio Bukes, Bukes django unchained. That's correct.
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: There's two names remaining, Christoph Vaults, Yes, Jamie Fox three
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: points rebukes hu's ah huzza. All right, let's go number two.
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: The first name is Christopher Plumber.
- 1:23:50Speaker 5: Oh.
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: The second name is Jamie Lee Curtis. The third name
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: is Chris Evans.
- 1:24:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: No.
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: The fourth name is Anna day Armish.
- 1:24:11Speaker 2: On.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: The fifth and final names, I said this one earlier, right.
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Knives out, knives out. And the final name is.
