- 0:00Speaker 2: For players here.
- 0:01Speaker 1: My two personal favorites are Rena and Nika one and two.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Renee just I mean she was a regular postgame and
- 0:10Speaker 1: with her parents. Yeah, I loved her parents. And then
- 0:11Speaker 1: Nika got to know my grandson a little bit.
- 0:13Speaker 2: So see, everybody's got their favorite players. Man. Yeah, and
- 0:16Speaker 2: that's good. That's good. I think that's fantastic. You know.
- 0:21Speaker 2: It's like my son.
- 0:22Speaker 3: You know, he grew up around Gampo and he, you know,
- 0:26Speaker 3: will go up there all the time and I would
- 0:28Speaker 3: bring him up there all the time. And you know,
- 0:30Speaker 3: he ended up being a really good player at East Catholic,
- 0:32Speaker 3: you know, and all State and all that nice stuff.
- 0:36Speaker 3: And his favorite player was Kaleelam there you go. Let
- 0:39Speaker 3: mean think about all the players that he saw coming
- 0:41Speaker 3: through yu Kon.
- 0:43Speaker 1: They don't win it ninety nine without him, No, absolutely,
- 0:45Speaker 1: he was the glue.
- 0:46Speaker 3: And you know because Kyle it took him under his
- 0:48Speaker 3: wing and said, hey, come on, let's go.
- 0:49Speaker 1: Yeah there you go.
- 0:50Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Now, one of the read now tonight it has to
- 0:54Speaker 1: do with your for the Kids Foundation. Gino for the
- 0:57Speaker 1: Kids Foundation. It's Gino for the Kids dot org. It's
- 1:00Speaker 1: fr it used to be for but it's more than golf. Now,
- 1:04Speaker 1: Bill Sussi is here, he's the first honorary chairman. Bill,
- 1:08Speaker 1: there you go. But it's grown twenty five years with
- 1:12Speaker 1: the success now with your name, the success that you've had.
- 1:15Speaker 1: I know that the tournament, the golf tournament that you
- 1:17Speaker 1: have at Hartford Golf Club is enormous and you generate
- 1:19Speaker 1: a lot of money. How much money do you think
- 1:22Speaker 1: you've raised for the Connecticut Children's Medical Center?
- 1:27Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know. I hope it's in the millions.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Five million, I mean five million dollars doesn't sound like
- 1:42Speaker 3: a lot to some people, but to a place that's
- 1:50Speaker 3: not exactly inundated with federal grants and a lot of
- 1:55Speaker 3: people wanting to pour money into the place, million dollars
- 2:00Speaker 3: that can do a lot. And this is these are
- 2:06Speaker 3: people that are they have jobs, they have a real life,
- 2:11Speaker 3: and these aren't necessarily all professional fundraisers. You know, it's
- 2:19Speaker 3: people who volunteered their time to do this. And when
- 2:25Speaker 3: I got involved the first year that we did it,
- 2:26Speaker 3: when they asked me to come down and speak to them,
- 2:28Speaker 3: I asked him when it was over, I said, hey,
- 2:32Speaker 3: how we do tonight?
- 2:32Speaker 2: You know?
- 2:33Speaker 3: It was it good. They're like, oh, yeah, it's great.
- 2:36Speaker 3: We made twenty five thousand dollars. It was a great night.
- 2:40Speaker 3: I mean I drove all the way down here and
- 2:41Speaker 3: speak at this thing and we made twenty five thousand dollars.
- 2:44Speaker 2: I could have just written you a check for twenty
- 2:45Speaker 2: five thousand. Why did I come all the way down here?
- 2:48Speaker 2: But for them it was a start. They had never done.
- 2:55Speaker 3: It to the level that I thought it could be done.
- 3:02Speaker 3: So we went from that to I don't know what
- 3:06Speaker 3: are we making now in the gov tournament six seven
- 3:08Speaker 3: hundred thousand, eight hundred thousand. So we went from making
- 3:14Speaker 3: twenty five thousand dollars in our GOV tournament, you know,
- 3:17Speaker 3: and all that stuff, now I'm making eight hundred thousand dollars,
- 3:20Speaker 3: you know, count the whole thing. So it was a
- 3:24Speaker 3: small beginning by a small group of people who just
- 3:28Speaker 3: had a passion for it. And I've been fortunate because
- 3:32Speaker 3: I don't do anything. I can't take any credit for this.
- 3:36Speaker 3: I show up, you know, I play off, I hang
- 3:41Speaker 3: around with a bunch of people and have a great time,
- 3:45Speaker 3: you know, smoke cigars afterwards on the patio at Harford.
- 3:50Speaker 3: And so many people are doing so much work, so
- 3:53Speaker 3: many volunteers, three hundred and sixty five days a year,
- 3:57Speaker 3: and I couldn't be prouder of all their work. Todd,
- 4:01Speaker 3: my son in law, is a big, big, big part
- 4:03Speaker 3: of that obviously.
- 4:04Speaker 2: You know.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Here you go share three events coming up, Charity Dinner Saturday,
- 4:11Speaker 1: May thirtieth, Gino's event, which is always Travelers Championship Week
- 4:15Speaker 1: early Hartford Golf Club June sixteenth, and then Norwalk shore
- 4:19Speaker 1: Haven Golf Club in October.
- 4:22Speaker 3: So we had it in sure Haven last year for
- 4:24Speaker 3: the first time. And you guys ever played Shrehaven. It's
- 4:28Speaker 3: one of the best golf courses I've ever played, and
- 4:31Speaker 3: I had never been down there before. It's unbelievably good.
- 4:36Speaker 3: And we didn't have any like, not a lot of publicity.
- 4:38Speaker 3: A lot of people didn't know about it. It was
- 4:42Speaker 3: like kind of like, let's go down and dip our
- 4:46Speaker 3: feet into the water and see how it goes.
- 4:50Speaker 2: And it was amazing. It was great, It was great.
- 4:53Speaker 3: You know, it's a different clientele down there, right down
- 4:56Speaker 3: that part of the world. It's a little different than
- 4:59Speaker 3: up here. You know, we're just you know, we're just
- 5:04Speaker 3: regular people here scraping to get by and they're down
- 5:09Speaker 3: there doing what they do. So the auction down there
- 5:13Speaker 3: is like an ego thing. Guys don't want to lose
- 5:16Speaker 3: an auction item to somebody else, so it's become hilarious
- 5:21Speaker 3: how we just drive the price up and it's great.
- 5:23Speaker 2: It's great. So the success that we had the very
- 5:26Speaker 2: first year with so.
- 5:28Speaker 3: Little input or work from us, I think this year
- 5:33Speaker 3: we're going to kill it.
- 5:34Speaker 1: Okay, back with you, yep, all right, we're gonna go back.
- 5:37Speaker 1: Wrap things up with Gina in just a minute. The
- 5:38Speaker 1: live radio show, and then of course we have the
- 5:40Speaker 1: after show here at Cafe or it's the Yukon Women's
- 5:42Speaker 1: Basketball Coaches Show on Learfield. Stay with us,
