- 0:00Speaker 1: Check, check. Excelsior? Check, check, check.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Geek.
- 0:05Speaker 1: Tony Stank?
- 0:06Speaker 3: I mean, it's given.
- 0:07Speaker 4: We knew that. I forgot about that.
- 0:12Speaker 1: It's showtime.
- 0:13Speaker 5: The following feature has been rated R by the Motion
- 0:16Speaker 5: Picture Association of America. It is intended for mature audiences
- 0:20Speaker 5: and parental discretion is advised.
- 0:23Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 0:53Speaker 4: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian.
- 0:55Speaker 2: I'm David.
- 1:17Speaker 3: And we are coming to you live via digital recording
- 1:19Speaker 3: from out here in the world. We have brought with
- 1:22Speaker 3: us a couple of people. Brian, you've actually been on
- 1:27Speaker 3: sort of kind of recently.
- 1:29Speaker 6: Yes, this time in the flesh.
- 1:30Speaker 3: You've made an appearance before, but yeah, you're still kind
- 1:32Speaker 3: of getting your feet wet in the Meltdown world. So
- 1:35Speaker 3: welcome to you.
- 1:36Speaker 6: A little melty.
- 1:37Speaker 3: And Michael, this is your first time.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Yes, I am, however, not a frequent of the show.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Yet, we can remedy that. seeing how much you hate
- 1:49Speaker 3: this process but it's not a problem so um normally
- 1:55Speaker 3: i'll ease this in and talk about other movies we've
- 1:59Speaker 3: seen but i'm assuming we're gonna ramble on is there
- 2:01Speaker 3: anything pressing that you really want to share with people
- 2:04Speaker 3: before we get knee deep in the middle of.
- 2:06Speaker 6: Marvel well for full disclosure um i think you need
- 2:09Speaker 6: to tell people um if you are team Iron Man
- 2:12Speaker 6: or team Cap, you have a hat on right now
- 2:16Speaker 6: that might be a hint. It might be.
- 2:18Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I will, if we're just going to get into it
- 2:23Speaker 3: in general, I will say I'm wearing the Cap hat now.
- 2:29Speaker 3: I don't think.
- 2:31Speaker 4: CapCap?
- 2:32Speaker 5: Huh.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Has that been patented? If not, we need to jump
- 2:35Speaker 3: on that. Trademark patent pending. Yeah, I don't think I
- 2:40Speaker 3: paid that much attention to Captain America in the comic form.
- 2:44Speaker 3: I think I always kind of went along with the,
- 2:47Speaker 3: he seems like propaganda, because he was built in the
- 2:50Speaker 3: story and out of the story. He's kind of built
- 2:52Speaker 3: out of propaganda. So I'm just kind of like, whatever,
- 2:55Speaker 3: I get it. I get what they're going for, but
- 2:57Speaker 3: I never paid that much attention to the storylines originally.
- 3:02Speaker 3: Chris has kind of won me over. His portrayal of
- 3:06Speaker 3: this character is enough. He just adds a lot of
- 3:10Speaker 3: humanity to it that I don't think I ever cared
- 3:12Speaker 3: about before. First of all, he always seemed much older
- 3:15Speaker 3: in the comics. I don't know if that was supposed
- 3:17Speaker 3: to be, but he always.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Reads like he's in his mid-40s in the comics.
- 3:21Speaker 4: Yeah, he was up there.
- 3:23Speaker 1: They got a little tricky with it because I remember
- 3:27Speaker 1: it seems like after World War II was over, He spent, like,
- 3:31Speaker 1: the next 10, 20 years, like, finding all the Nazis
- 3:36Speaker 1: that hid, you know? And then he got to the
- 3:37Speaker 1: point where it's like, dude, there's no more Nazis. Damn,
- 3:40Speaker 1: Nazis are old. And I want to say they retconned,
- 3:44Speaker 1: I think, when they brought him out of the ice, right?
- 3:46Speaker 1: To kind of reset his age and go, oh, we
- 3:48Speaker 1: didn't bring him back in the 80s, 90s. We brought
- 3:50Speaker 1: him back in, like, I don't think he was around
- 3:52Speaker 1: for 9-11 now. If I remember, I could be wrong,
- 3:55Speaker 1: but I think... It was 2001-2-ish now in a way
- 3:59Speaker 1: where it's like he didn't even witness 9-11, if I
- 4:02Speaker 1: recall right.
- 4:03Speaker 4: If we're talking about in the MCU, yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 1: I think so, yeah. Because he was just... I mean, everyone...
- 4:09Speaker 1: Because they tried to shift it over to Russia. I
- 4:11Speaker 1: remember somewhere in the 80s, like, oh, now he's after commies.
- 4:14Speaker 1: And it's like... Damn commies.
- 4:17Speaker 4: Well, that was back a lot during the Winter Soldier time.
- 4:19Speaker 4: And Hydra had still always been around.
- 4:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:22Speaker 4: Well, not always been around. They didn't really come around until...
- 4:26Speaker 4: I think the 70s was when Hydra started really showing
- 4:30Speaker 4: up within anything.
- 4:32Speaker 3: Is it in the comic world?
- 4:33Speaker 4: In the comic world. Or in the story within the movie?
- 4:36Speaker 4: In the comic world.
- 4:37Speaker 1: Yeah, it does.
- 4:38Speaker 4: Hydra's been around forever in the movies, but that's neither
- 4:41Speaker 4: here nor there.
- 4:42Speaker 3: Nobody knew it, so then it's questionable what they were.
- 4:46Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 4:47Speaker 3: It's very complicated. So, I guess since we're already into
- 4:50Speaker 3: it here.
- 4:51Speaker 2: Get more out of life. Go out to a movie.
- 5:01Speaker 4: This job, we try to save as many people as
- 5:09Speaker 4: we can. Sometimes that doesn't mean everybody. But you don't
- 5:18Speaker 4: give up.
- 5:26Speaker 1: New York.
- 5:29Speaker 7: Washington, D.C.
- 5:35Speaker 8: Sarcovia.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Okay, that's enough.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Captain, people are afraid.
- 5:45Speaker 4: That's why I'm here.
- 5:50Speaker 2: We need to be put in check.
- 5:53Speaker 1: Whatever form that takes, I'm game.
- 5:56Speaker 4: I'm sorry, Tony.
- 5:57Speaker 2: If I see a situation pointed south, I can't ignore it.
- 6:00Speaker 4: Sometimes I wish I could.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Sometimes I want to punch you in your perfect teeth.
- 6:06Speaker 4: I know we're not perfect. But the safest hands are
- 6:13Speaker 4: still our.
- 6:16Speaker 2: Own.
- 6:20Speaker 1: Run!
- 6:20Speaker 7: I was wrong.
- 6:30Speaker 1: World what's wrong about you.
- 6:36Speaker 2: They're coming for you.
- 6:39Speaker 1: I'm not the one that needs to watch their back.
- 6:43Speaker 4: This doesn't have to.
- 6:43Speaker 2: End in a fight tony.
- 6:48Speaker 1: You just started a war.
- 7:01Speaker 3: Stay down.
- 7:02Speaker 2: Final warning.
- 7:05Speaker 4: I could do this all day.
- 7:13Speaker 3: Once again, we've gone out into the world. That's unusual
- 7:15Speaker 3: for us. So we have an out on the town
- 7:17Speaker 3: feature this week. Captain America colon Civil War. The directors
- 7:23Speaker 3: are the Russo brothers. Anthony and Joe, if you're keeping score. Oh,
- 7:28Speaker 3: the year is 2016. And the plot, according to IMDb,
- 7:33Speaker 3: this is oddly worded already, as there always are, political
- 7:37Speaker 3: interference in the Avengers' activities causes a rift between former
- 7:41Speaker 3: allies Captain America and Iron Man.
- 7:44Speaker 4: Spoiler alert.
- 7:46Speaker 3: If you're a geek, you've seen this by now anyway,
- 7:48Speaker 3: but just we're giving it right now.
- 7:50Speaker 4: You've heard the alarm.
- 7:50Speaker 3: It's all good.
- 7:51Speaker 1: I've met people that have seen it four times already.
- 7:54Speaker 3: You've got problems is what we're saying.
- 7:56Speaker 1: I plan on seeing it. At least once. I think
- 8:00Speaker 1: I'll end up seeing it three times. But it killed
- 8:01Speaker 1: me when I heard someone talking about, like, I went
- 8:04Speaker 1: Thursday night and I had to see it again Friday.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And then my buddy went Saturday, so I went. And
- 8:08Speaker 1: then I'm going Sunday morning. I'm like, oh, my gosh.
- 8:10Speaker 1: You're going to see it four times in opening week.
- 8:12Speaker 3: Just move into the theater.
- 8:14Speaker 4: I've seen it once. Once is good enough for me
- 8:17Speaker 4: right now. i it's it's fine it's.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Rare that i get back to the theater to see
- 8:22Speaker 3: it again number one because i'm poor and number two
- 8:25Speaker 3: because i feel like i'm always trying to catch up
- 8:28Speaker 3: on movies anyway so it's like if i have a
- 8:29Speaker 3: chance to go see something else somewhat new i'm trying
- 8:32Speaker 3: to stay on top of things sometimes for the show
- 8:34Speaker 3: sometimes that's my excuse but i'm just like i don't
- 8:36Speaker 3: know if i have time to rewatch it i can
- 8:38Speaker 3: only fit one more movie in here between now and
- 8:40Speaker 3: next week so that's always.
- 8:41Speaker 6: A long haul though um There was a long line
- 8:44Speaker 6: to get into the movie, and there was a long
- 8:46Speaker 6: line to get into the restroom after the movie.
- 8:48Speaker 4: Yes, actually there was. But there are a few.
- 8:50Speaker 6: Parts of Civil War that I want to see again.
- 8:53Speaker 6: I'm not going to see it again in theater immediately,
- 8:56Speaker 6: but there are parts of it that I want to
- 8:58Speaker 6: revisit because I enjoyed it so much.
- 9:02Speaker 3: Again, going back to my team whatever, again, I feel like,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and it's hard for me to say, I don't know
- 9:09Speaker 3: that I really am. Within the story, I think you
- 9:11Speaker 3: come in going, Well, you're obviously kind of Captain America, right?
- 9:14Speaker 3: Because he's on the, what seems like he's going to
- 9:16Speaker 3: be on the good side. And it is hard, if
- 9:19Speaker 3: I were just picking one, it would be hard for
- 9:21Speaker 3: me to say that because, like I said, I don't
- 9:23Speaker 3: have anything really pre-movies Captain America. And I've been so
- 9:29Speaker 3: thrilled with this version of Tony Stark. Like, I've been,
- 9:33Speaker 3: just one movie after the next, I'm like, damn, he
- 9:35Speaker 3: kind of gets better.
- 9:37Speaker 4: Now, frankly, if we're going complete MCU Civil War here,
- 9:41Speaker 4: I'm on teen black widow.
- 9:44Speaker 9: Can't argue that but she pretty much exactly what she
- 9:48Speaker 9: did in the comic books too she just sort of
- 9:50Speaker 9: stayed on that fence yeah went to whatever side worked
- 9:53Speaker 9: out best as it needed to which is.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Kind of where you need to be but but yeah
- 9:58Speaker 3: i think that's kind of one of my favorite things
- 10:00Speaker 3: about this as we get into it is we're just
- 10:02Speaker 3: jumping to the overview of the thing is that it's
- 10:06Speaker 3: not again they sell it very hard on which side
- 10:08Speaker 3: are you on which side are you on like it's
- 10:10Speaker 3: an easy cut and dry decision as you get into
- 10:13Speaker 3: this it's so complex it's.
- 10:16Speaker 1: A great job of taking this topic i mean they're
- 10:19Speaker 1: they're There are many topics in life that clearly don't
- 10:22Speaker 1: have an answer. I mean, that's why we have issues with,
- 10:27Speaker 1: you know, pro-choice, pro-life, things like that. There's things in
- 10:29Speaker 1: life where, you know, it's hard to find that middle ground.
- 10:31Speaker 1: This is one of those topics. Even though it's done,
- 10:33Speaker 1: it's presented in, you know, lowbrow, geeky format, it's a legit,
- 10:39Speaker 1: you know, what is the right answer? When the comic
- 10:42Speaker 1: came out, It was very surprising. I think to everybody
- 10:45Speaker 1: that Captain America was against it because he just assumed
- 10:48Speaker 1: he's the government kid.
- 10:49Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 10:49Speaker 1: So it was shocking initially. Like, whoa, wait, what? Captain
- 10:53Speaker 1: America is the one going rogue?
- 10:54Speaker 4: Well, Captain America had also said that he'd gone through
- 10:57Speaker 4: that whole process before back in World War II with
- 11:02Speaker 4: Hitler and the Holocaust and his treatment toward the Jews
- 11:08Speaker 4: in Europe. That was, at least in the books, that
- 11:11Speaker 4: was his reason at that point.
- 11:14Speaker 3: Which, yeah, I mean, once you get into this, but
- 11:16Speaker 3: pre-watching the movie, just watching the trailers and seeing where
- 11:19Speaker 3: everybody falls on the sides, I'm like, wait, so why
- 11:22Speaker 3: is Black Widow not on the same side as Captain America?
- 11:25Speaker 3: They're like teamed up.
- 11:26Speaker 4: Together when we left it.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I mean, that surprised me. After how heavily they've reinforced
- 11:30Speaker 1: Black Widow and Hawkeye's relationship in the movies, I was
- 11:34Speaker 1: surprised that there wasn't some level of at least hesitation
- 11:39Speaker 1: for Hawkeye. It's like, wait. I'm not on the same
- 11:41Speaker 1: side as Black Widow, which I was glad they gave
- 11:43Speaker 1: him that banter while they're fighting. Like, you're pulling punches.
- 11:45Speaker 1: You are too. Like, they kind of acknowledged, we're not
- 11:49Speaker 1: trying to kill each other here. Because I was like,
- 11:52Speaker 1: that was the one that bugged me. I was like, wow,
- 11:54Speaker 1: they would fight each other for this? Like, I don't know.
- 11:57Speaker 3: I think they would find someone else to punch at least.
- 11:59Speaker 3: With all of them though, I was kind of like, wait,
- 12:01Speaker 3: what are they doing on this side?
- 12:02Speaker 4: Why? Well, that comes to my first question. And let
- 12:07Speaker 4: me preface this with I'm a very large Spider-Man fan.
- 12:12Speaker 4: Out of all the superheroes of all existence, Parker's my favorite.
- 12:17Speaker 4: He's my boy. He's the guy who's trying to do
- 12:19Speaker 4: his 9 to 5, also trying to help the world
- 12:22Speaker 4: whenever he can, and figure out what he's going to
- 12:24Speaker 4: get Mary Jane for her birthday. Still broke because he's
- 12:29Speaker 4: getting no money from J. Jonah Jameson. Why is he there?
- 12:35Speaker 4: Why did they need to tell this part of his
- 12:38Speaker 4: story in Civil War? the way that they did it
- 12:41Speaker 4: it felt very very contrived very forced that he was.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Well it definitely was i mean that one is like
- 12:48Speaker 1: the whole rights over him happened yeah during it was post-production.
- 12:52Speaker 4: Right and i get that and that's fine and and
- 12:56Speaker 4: you know cool now he's back with the mcu where
- 12:58Speaker 4: he kind of really needs to be for yeah for
- 13:00Speaker 4: all this continue but He really didn't need to be
- 13:04Speaker 4: in the story.
- 13:05Speaker 3: He does feel shoved in there. I was going to
- 13:08Speaker 3: say on both sides. I'm like, number one, I think
- 13:10Speaker 3: it's really cool because we, as movie fans, as anybody
- 13:14Speaker 3: who likes these kind of comic book movies, have been
- 13:17Speaker 3: bitching for years.
- 13:18Speaker 4: And I'm like.
- 13:19Speaker 3: For the love of God, if you do another origin story,
- 13:23Speaker 3: especially on people we know so well.
- 13:25Speaker 4: We're going to lose it.
- 13:26Speaker 1: They didn't even say Uncle Ben's name. That made me
- 13:28Speaker 1: so happy. When he just mentioned an incident where he
- 13:31Speaker 1: talked about, because I didn't act, it kind of made
- 13:34Speaker 1: me responsible. Everyone knows what you mean, bro. That's cool.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Let's roll with it. I didn't need the sob story
- 13:41Speaker 1: responsibility and power again. Just- cool that's uncle.
- 13:45Speaker 3: Ben i know what you're talking about yeah it's like
- 13:46Speaker 3: the fact that they introduced two new characters without doing
- 13:49Speaker 3: massive backstory it's just they're thrown in now the other
- 13:53Speaker 3: one i probably could really incorporated though i mean we
- 13:56Speaker 3: know it's coming at least with him.
- 13:58Speaker 1: You had you had like he was mentioned previously yeah
- 14:01Speaker 1: you know we we've heard wakanda we had a battle
- 14:04Speaker 1: in wakanda we he's at least ingrained in already yeah
- 14:07Speaker 1: um spider-man was obviously shoehorned in but you know Well,
- 14:11Speaker 1: and he's, I mean, Black.
- 14:13Speaker 3: Panther is an intricate part of this story. Like, you
- 14:16Speaker 3: cannot have the movie without him. That's not true of Spider-Man.
- 14:19Speaker 3: You can pull that Spider-Man bit out and it would
- 14:21Speaker 3: not affect anything, really.
- 14:22Speaker 4: If you're talking about the movie plotline, yes. If you're
- 14:25Speaker 4: talking about the whole Civil War plotline as it originally was,
- 14:28Speaker 4: Spider-Man was a very large part of a lot of
- 14:32Speaker 4: things that went on. But they started the story.
- 14:34Speaker 3: This screenplay as we started... And I'm sure it was
- 14:38Speaker 3: all very well finished.
- 14:39Speaker 4: And they went, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 14:40Speaker 3: They're clearing up the rights now?
- 14:41Speaker 4: Shit.
- 14:44Speaker 3: So, typing away on a laptop somewhere.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I feel like that's one of those things where, like,
- 14:49Speaker 1: I'm happy with the way it played out in the
- 14:52Speaker 1: sense that that was a corporate decision. I don't think
- 14:55Speaker 1: any artist, anyone, you know, artistically involved with this would
- 15:00Speaker 1: have been like, yeah, let's just shoehorn Spider-Man in now.
- 15:02Speaker 1: I think that was the corporate scene going, look, a terrible... Obviously,
- 15:07Speaker 1: everyone has their own opinion. Arguably terrible Spider-Man movies just happened.
- 15:11Speaker 1: We just got the rights back. Let's establish he's back home.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Like I said, my opinion. Let's establish he's back in
- 15:18Speaker 1: the Marvel Universe. That's Marvel saying our boy is back
- 15:21Speaker 1: in our yard. And we just want to show you guys,
- 15:24Speaker 1: this is what's coming now. It's not another Andrew Garfield.
- 15:27Speaker 1: It's going to be a child playing Peter Parker. I've
- 15:31Speaker 1: always felt.
- 15:31Speaker 4: I like Andrew Garfield.
- 15:33Speaker 1: I've always felt that.
- 15:34Speaker 3: In those movies.
- 15:34Speaker 1: Spider-Man is Marvel's.
- 15:35Speaker 4: I like McGuire too. Shazam. I like McGuire.
- 15:38Speaker 1: Like this is the one, like you kind of said,
- 15:39Speaker 1: it's the kid that's a superhero. It's just the kid
- 15:41Speaker 1: that's like just having so much fun with it. And
- 15:46Speaker 1: I felt like the other ones were taking the fun
- 15:48Speaker 1: out in that regard. Like Peter Parker is fun.
- 15:50Speaker 8: I don't.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Think you can every anyone will ever say every comic
- 15:54Speaker 1: has dark moments or a dark storyline but i think
- 15:57Speaker 1: in general everyone will agree peter parker is fun.
- 16:01Speaker 3: Well that's what i think is funny now that like
- 16:04Speaker 3: everybody is heaping so much praise on the deadpool movie
- 16:06Speaker 3: because he's funny and he's got quips while he's in
- 16:08Speaker 3: the middle action i'm like that's peter parker like that's
- 16:11Speaker 3: for how many years has that been the spider-man thing
- 16:14Speaker 3: is like he's hanging there making wisecracks like that's what
- 16:17Speaker 3: he does so yeah It seems like it borrows.
- 16:19Speaker 4: A little devil death. He did it pretty well in
- 16:21Speaker 4: the first Amazing Spider-Man movie.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Didn't do it so well in the second one, but
- 16:27Speaker 4: that movie had a lot more issues than just Peter
- 16:31Speaker 4: Parker himself. But I think the new... Well, the Amazing
- 16:36Speaker 4: re-envisioning of Spider-Man started out really well. Then somehow they
- 16:41Speaker 4: pulled a script from Joel Schumacher and it didn't go anywhere.
- 16:44Speaker 3: They started... kind of doing that same thing that we
- 16:47Speaker 3: bet you about. I'm like, I've seen all this. Like
- 16:49Speaker 3: we don't like wasted so much time retelling that same
- 16:52Speaker 3: story when I'm like, we could have a really cool,
- 16:55Speaker 3: like by the end, I'm like, it gets kind of
- 16:57Speaker 3: crammed in there because we wasted so much time rehashing stuff.
- 17:00Speaker 3: We all already know. We've already seen it in the
- 17:02Speaker 3: other movies. I know it's a different thread.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Who cares?
- 17:05Speaker 1: Like we know enough.
- 17:07Speaker 3: Again, just what they did with this one. In a
- 17:09Speaker 3: few minutes, they set up as much as you needed
- 17:11Speaker 3: to know. And we're just we're rolling. It's good. We're superheroes.
- 17:14Speaker 1: We got it.
- 17:15Speaker 6: Yeah. From the trailer, I had a small problem. We
- 17:17Speaker 6: saw the you have a metal arm. That's awesome, dude.
- 17:20Speaker 6: I had a problem with that because he seemed a
- 17:22Speaker 6: little douchey teenager. But to your point, we already have
- 17:28Speaker 6: Iron Man is funny. Ant-Man is funny. Deadpool different. different
- 17:32Speaker 6: movie franchise. So this Spider-Man is youthful and green and he's... Exciting.
- 17:39Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 17:40Speaker 6: He's not making jokes jokes.
- 17:41Speaker 4: He is.
- 17:42Speaker 1: He's just expressing his gushing. You know, it'd be like
- 17:46Speaker 1: you just make like off time, like a sports reference,
- 17:48Speaker 1: like your kid in junior high playing football. You want
- 17:50Speaker 1: to be in NFL.
- 17:51Speaker 4: This is kind of an audition.
- 17:52Speaker 1: Something happens where you're in the Super Bowl. You'd be like, oh,
- 17:55Speaker 1: my God. Look, you know, it's Peyton Manning. You know,
- 17:58Speaker 1: like he's like, hey, Cap, like he's so excited to
- 18:02Speaker 1: be with these people, even though he's fighting. Where are
- 18:05Speaker 1: you from? So much fun. Oh, the Queens-Brooklyn thing was great.
- 18:09Speaker 4: I loved it.
- 18:09Speaker 1: Did the theater erupt when Queens went on the screen
- 18:12Speaker 1: real big? Everyone in my theater knew this was about
- 18:15Speaker 1: to be Spider-Man, and there was little mini clapping going on, like, oh,
- 18:19Speaker 1: here it is.
- 18:19Speaker 4: I did. That's the thing.
- 18:20Speaker 3: I was going to say, it's rare that I get
- 18:23Speaker 3: much audience reaction these days. Mostly, I don't go when
- 18:27Speaker 3: there's a lot of people there, because.
- 18:28Speaker 1: People, ew.
- 18:30Speaker 3: But I was going to say, there were a couple
- 18:31Speaker 3: of times I was like, this is fun with a
- 18:34Speaker 3: group of people.
- 18:34Speaker 4: Man, I've got a story for you on audio interaction
- 18:37Speaker 4: when you get a chance. You're going to love it. Well, okay.
- 18:39Speaker 4: I'll get mine.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Mine are pretty minor. Towards the beginning there when Captain
- 18:43Speaker 3: America takes the shield and just whips it and it
- 18:45Speaker 3: bangs around the room and gets both of those dudes.
- 18:46Speaker 4: Nice.
- 18:47Speaker 3: I just heard a guy somewhere in the middle of
- 18:49Speaker 3: the theater go, damn.
- 18:50Speaker 4: I was like, all right, that's pretty good.
- 18:53Speaker 3: And then the funny one that just because once again
- 18:57Speaker 3: you see that this is kind of bringing in everybody.
- 19:00Speaker 3: It's got some heavy elements to it. but it's still
- 19:03Speaker 3: sort of made for families to be okay. Tony Stark
- 19:08Speaker 3: goes and he's sitting there and he's in the bedroom
- 19:11Speaker 3: there and he's pulling all the whatever, you know, Spider-Boy
- 19:15Speaker 3: or whatever.
- 19:16Speaker 4: He's calling them all the wrong names.
- 19:17Speaker 3: And he ends it with Spider-Boy and this little kid goes,
- 19:20Speaker 3: it's Spider-Man. And like the entire theater just started laughing.
- 19:25Speaker 3: It's like, all right, somebody. Normally I'd say shut that
- 19:28Speaker 3: kid up, but I'm like, that was pretty funny. So
- 19:30Speaker 3: those were the main ones I had. So I'm sure this,
- 19:33Speaker 3: yours is a bigger thing.
- 19:36Speaker 4: So we– so they get to the climax point where
- 19:40Speaker 4: they're analyzing Howard Stark's video. Yeah. The crashed Cadillac and
- 19:46Speaker 4: Bucky pulls up and Like opens up the trunk and
- 19:51Speaker 4: he starts going over to the door and Zemo's talking,
- 19:56Speaker 4: saying his words. Then here's some guy way down front.
- 19:59Speaker 4: You hear him say, oh, shit. Like he just realized
- 20:04Speaker 4: this life turning revelation just came to him. I think
- 20:08Speaker 4: I had that moment. About the same time, I guess
- 20:10Speaker 4: I realized that, wait a minute, that's going to be Howard. Oh,
- 20:12Speaker 4: my God.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I think I, well, as soon as he goes, I
- 20:15Speaker 3: know that road, I was like, oh, shit. It was like,
- 20:18Speaker 3: this is not going to go well.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I'm really glad that, you know, usually I'm the kind
- 20:23Speaker 1: of person that just by nature, I think it honestly
- 20:27Speaker 1: goes back to Twin Peaks. I'm the kind of person
- 20:29Speaker 1: that's usually like hyper-evaluating what I'm seeing and trying to
- 20:32Speaker 1: predict things ahead of time. Like, oh, this is going
- 20:34Speaker 1: to be that. This is going to be that. That
- 20:36Speaker 1: video went right over my head. When they were showing
- 20:39Speaker 1: it then, I'm even a clueless guy that's like, what
- 20:42Speaker 1: could this possibly be? That's going to matter. Oh my God.
- 20:45Speaker 1: I was like, so surprised. Like, how did I not
- 20:48Speaker 1: put that together?
- 20:49Speaker 4: I thought that was Cree blood in the, uh, um,
- 20:53Speaker 4: In the case... Did they ever fully.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Explain what the blue packets were?
- 20:57Speaker 4: Super Soldier 2. Yeah, I was making the Super Soldier
- 20:58Speaker 4: 2 movie.
- 20:58Speaker 1: So they've been making the five other people with it.
- 21:00Speaker 4: That's my first problem with the movie, is that whole
- 21:03Speaker 4: Super Soldier side plot. The wasted side plot. Yeah, that
- 21:08Speaker 4: didn't really matter in the end. They're kind of like, hey,
- 21:11Speaker 4: here's a plot in the guff, and we're just going
- 21:12Speaker 4: to toss.
- 21:12Speaker 2: This over here.
- 21:13Speaker 3: Bye. There's an awesome sequel down the line that could
- 21:16Speaker 3: be like... five super soldiers going against them like that's
- 21:20Speaker 3: badass like why did we get cheated from that story.
- 21:22Speaker 4: Right i mean and that could have been actually a
- 21:24Speaker 4: pretty interesting re re re-envisioning of the thunderbolts yeah to
- 21:30Speaker 4: maybe add one of those guys in there but i
- 21:35Speaker 4: guess no.
- 21:36Speaker 3: Instead let's just get them all so that was kind
- 21:39Speaker 3: of a waste.
- 21:40Speaker 4: But i'm still kind of curious as to what zemo's
- 21:43Speaker 4: motives are because he didn't he seemed a little half
- 21:46Speaker 4: measure As he was going through things. What I would
- 21:50Speaker 4: expect this Marvel villain to actually do as far as
- 21:53Speaker 4: causing chaos throughout the Avengers and wanting them to kill
- 21:57Speaker 4: each other, he would have... So the little chat he
- 22:01Speaker 4: had at the end with T'Challa on him being sorry
- 22:05Speaker 4: about T'Chaka's death seemed a little bit out of character
- 22:10Speaker 4: for Zemo, considering he's lost his family. He's lost his child,
- 22:14Speaker 4: his father, his wife, to the whole Sokovia incident Yet
- 22:19Speaker 4: he is sorry about bombing the bombing, the U.N. killing T'Challa,
- 22:28Speaker 4: T'Chaka and kind of sort of for all the things
- 22:32Speaker 4: that he's accomplished, except for dissolving, you know, what is
- 22:39Speaker 4: currently going on with the Avengers. And it seemed to
- 22:42Speaker 4: me he was kind of holding back for some reason there.
- 22:45Speaker 4: that didn't make a lot of sense. That kind of character,
- 22:48Speaker 4: he's going to lose his family. He's not going to
- 22:50Speaker 4: care about anybody else's health anymore. He's going to go
- 22:52Speaker 4: full out and just destroy anything and everybody in his
- 22:54Speaker 4: path to, to achieve his own objectives.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I like that scene.
- 23:00Speaker 4: At the end, when he was talking to Watson, Bilbo,
- 23:07Speaker 4: whatever his name is. He did kind of plant that
- 23:11Speaker 4: seed of, did I really do everything that I was
- 23:13Speaker 4: going to do? So who knows? They might bring him back.
- 23:17Speaker 4: And honestly, I'm not sure.
- 23:20Speaker 1: Just don't put the purple hood on him. I don't
- 23:22Speaker 1: need the purple Cobra Commander.
- 23:23Speaker 4: They'll do it. They'll figure out a way. He'll wear
- 23:26Speaker 4: his father's beard.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I like how they split the difference across bones. I
- 23:29Speaker 1: thought it was really cool just the X's on his
- 23:31Speaker 1: chest and all that going on. They weren't literally bones
- 23:34Speaker 1: painted on his armor.
- 23:35Speaker 4: They kept him very true to his original character. He's
- 23:38Speaker 4: just a henchman. He's a hired thug. He was doing
- 23:41Speaker 4: exactly what he would do in the comic book and
- 23:43Speaker 4: it worked. He's a distraction to move the story along.
- 23:48Speaker 3: I like that scene at the end. Again, I didn't
- 23:51Speaker 3: see him becoming the villain. So again, that was one
- 23:54Speaker 3: they sort of throw a fake at you. And then
- 23:56Speaker 3: by the time you're like, oh, not only is he
- 23:58Speaker 3: a villain, he's a pretty huge villain at this point.
- 24:02Speaker 3: But he never really played it massively over the top
- 24:05Speaker 3: like a comic book villain. He still came off like
- 24:08Speaker 3: such a human being. He struck me like a Riddler.
- 24:10Speaker 1: It was more of a, I'm so smart, I'm going
- 24:12Speaker 1: to put all these pieces in place and I'm just
- 24:14Speaker 1: going to like slowly walk down the park and watch
- 24:17Speaker 1: it all happen, you know, because I've set it all up.
- 24:19Speaker 1: Like he just had this very confident, sure, I got
- 24:22Speaker 1: this set up kind of attitude where it was almost
- 24:23Speaker 1: like he was just watching it manifest in front of himself.
- 24:27Speaker 1: It wasn't like he had to actively fight anybody. He'd
- 24:30Speaker 1: never seen stress. He's always like, no, this is totally
- 24:32Speaker 1: going my way and this is going to happen.
- 24:34Speaker 3: But it wasn't even like he was gloating about it.
- 24:36Speaker 4: Like it was.
- 24:37Speaker 3: And I feel like that's why that part of the
- 24:39Speaker 3: made it kind of OK, because you really did feel
- 24:42Speaker 3: like he's still broken up about his family, still broken
- 24:45Speaker 3: about the whole situation.
- 24:48Speaker 4: And that was part of what bothered me about is
- 24:50Speaker 4: that he wasn't really gloating about the things that he
- 24:52Speaker 4: had done.
- 24:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:55Speaker 4: Maybe he saw himself breaking up a family or breaking
- 24:58Speaker 4: up what the Avengers saw as a family in and
- 25:01Speaker 4: of himself. Or whether that had something to do with
- 25:05Speaker 4: him unintentionally killing T'Chaka. But it felt like, well, so
- 25:14Speaker 4: clearly this wasn't the Baron Zemo. Which I'm guessing that's probably,
- 25:18Speaker 4: I guess, what I was hoping he was going to
- 25:21Speaker 4: come to be. But maybe not in this way. Yeah.
- 25:25Speaker 4: So I guess we'll see what they end up doing
- 25:27Speaker 4: with him.
- 25:28Speaker 1: I assume he's going to be in the Black Panther movie.
- 25:30Speaker 1: I assume that him and... Klaue. I think both of
- 25:33Speaker 1: them will be. I get the feeling Zemo is going to...
- 25:36Speaker 1: I feel like Zemo is going to show up too.
- 25:38Speaker 1: I got the impression with him having words with his
- 25:41Speaker 1: consult guy, Bilbo. I felt like that was a way
- 25:44Speaker 1: of going, these guys are going to have dialogue. This
- 25:46Speaker 1: is leading to something. This is going to be the
- 25:48Speaker 1: next face-off.
- 25:49Speaker 4: He would be one of the only people that would
- 25:51Speaker 4: know that, or that would have an idea that Bucky
- 25:55Speaker 4: is back at Wakanda. And whatever reason would want to
- 26:00Speaker 4: set him free and... send him on a crazy soldier
- 26:03Speaker 4: tirade again um claw for obvious reasons because he just
- 26:08Speaker 4: wants the vibranium right um i don't yeah between the
- 26:12Speaker 4: two of them i don't see a lot of other
- 26:15Speaker 4: um a lot of other immediate villains that they'll throw
- 26:21Speaker 4: at black panther um and i don't remember a lot
- 26:24Speaker 4: of black panther from the book so i don't remember
- 26:26Speaker 4: who is actual at.
- 26:28Speaker 1: This point i feel like you know now it's phase
- 26:30Speaker 1: three right i mean i guess going forward now we
- 26:33Speaker 1: really need to start getting intergalactic like i feel like
- 26:37Speaker 1: maybe black panther is going to be the emphasis on
- 26:39Speaker 1: they didn't really bring it home that wakanda is like
- 26:42Speaker 1: the most advanced place on the planet like You can
- 26:45Speaker 1: talk about Stark Tower all you want, but Black Panther
- 26:47Speaker 1: is holding it down.
- 26:48Speaker 3: So that has to be that bridge.
- 26:50Speaker 6: That's something that I've been wanting to see leading up
- 26:53Speaker 6: to the Infinity Gauntlet business. Because whenever the super cosmic
- 26:58Speaker 6: issues pop up, you go to the Fantastic Fours.
- 27:03Speaker 4: Sorry, they're their headquarters.
- 27:05Speaker 6: Back to building? You want to see Reed Richards, and
- 27:07Speaker 6: you want to go, what's going on? And the people
- 27:10Speaker 6: of Wakanda, they seem to have some pretty sophisticated tech there.
- 27:13Speaker 4: Well, my assumption is that what they're building in the
- 27:17Speaker 4: MCU is how they're linking all of Earth's technological advancement
- 27:22Speaker 4: to the Kree. Because the Kree are coming up a
- 27:25Speaker 4: lot in the MCU, especially if you've been watching Aiden's Shield.
- 27:28Speaker 4: They're all over the place in there. Which is fine
- 27:31Speaker 4: for what they're doing for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., but it
- 27:32Speaker 4: would make sense that Wakanda has probably gleaned a lot
- 27:39Speaker 4: of their technological secrets from Kree leftovers that have managed
- 27:45Speaker 4: to follow the planet. I assume that's probably going to
- 27:49Speaker 4: be how they work out what's going to go on
- 27:52Speaker 4: with Ms. Marvel, since she's... about.
- 27:56Speaker 1: Her solo movie in like 2018 I think it's still
- 27:59Speaker 1: two years away.
- 27:59Speaker 4: She's indirectly I believe she's after the.
- 28:02Speaker 1: First Infinity War movie I believe she's in between them
- 28:05Speaker 1: okay well I believe Like I said, there's so many dates,
- 28:08Speaker 1: but I want to say that.
- 28:10Speaker 4: She's actually in between them. The Infinity War is changing
- 28:13Speaker 4: as it is now. They're rebranding it and doing something different.
- 28:16Speaker 3: They backed off Doctor Strange already until later in the
- 28:19Speaker 3: year now. It was supposed to be summer, I think.
- 28:22Speaker 4: And they also killed.
- 28:23Speaker 1: Yeah, they bumped it like August. It's still this year.
- 28:26Speaker 3: It is, but now I think it's November.
- 28:29Speaker 4: And they've also killed Inhumans. that's no longer a current.
- 28:33Speaker 1: Even though, again, like I said, S.H.I.E.L.D. 's talking all
- 28:35Speaker 1: about that kind of stuff. It was weird that... I mean,
- 28:37Speaker 1: I guess they just aren't going to commit to a
- 28:39Speaker 1: movie at this point, but they're still definitely tackling that.
- 28:41Speaker 6: Right.
- 28:42Speaker 4: And there's still a lot of story about that. I mean,
- 28:44Speaker 4: they haven't even gotten to the core of the Inhumans
- 28:49Speaker 4: that you normally see or normally saw in the comics either.
- 28:55Speaker 4: I mean, we're kind of waiting for Medusa to pop
- 28:58Speaker 4: her head somewhere.
- 29:00Speaker 1: Think that's my not to get off topic i think
- 29:02Speaker 1: that's my beef with the shield show is that there's
- 29:06Speaker 1: no fan service like i need to see some superheroes
- 29:10Speaker 1: i need that i watched a season and a half
- 29:12Speaker 1: of it and i'm like i need some fan service
- 29:14Speaker 1: here guys i need to see some superheroes.
- 29:16Speaker 4: Here like their fan service is is left a lot
- 29:19Speaker 4: for the people that have um that have read some
- 29:23Speaker 4: of those oddball marvel books especially when you go into
- 29:26Speaker 4: like the secret wars there's a lot of what's happening
- 29:28Speaker 4: in what happened in the Secret Wars that's going on
- 29:30Speaker 4: right now in Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. And that seems to
- 29:35Speaker 4: be the fan service that they're trying to trying to
- 29:38Speaker 4: cater to right now i do agree with you though
- 29:40Speaker 4: they need to bring in some some of the movie
- 29:42Speaker 4: talent every now.
- 29:43Speaker 1: And then i mean again not to get off topic
- 29:47Speaker 1: but you know even off the top just from watching
- 29:50Speaker 1: trailers you can see it at like flash and supergirl
- 29:53Speaker 1: and arrow they can't cram enough people from the universe
- 29:55Speaker 1: in they're like more heroes more bad guys they kind
- 29:58Speaker 1: of work opposite they're like nope here's our new agents
- 30:03Speaker 1: and you can think of them as superheroes and it's
- 30:05Speaker 1: like can i get a real superhero on there.
- 30:07Speaker 4: Too yeah we had an old agent that was here
- 30:09Speaker 4: for a while but we're just gonna get rid of
- 30:11Speaker 4: her now for reasons is.
- 30:12Speaker 1: Colson never gonna be in the movie again i mean
- 30:16Speaker 1: I think that's the idea.
- 30:17Speaker 4: He shouldn't be because he's dead.
- 30:19Speaker 1: He died in the first Avenger movie. You brought him
- 30:21Speaker 1: back on TV. And, I mean, does no one, does
- 30:24Speaker 1: no one buddies with Coulson? You can't even get, like,
- 30:27Speaker 1: a quick start phone call? Just a little, 10 seconds, like, yeah,
- 30:30Speaker 1: he's alive, guys.
- 30:31Speaker 4: It's cool. To hell with Coulson. What about Nick Fury? He's, like,
- 30:33Speaker 4: off on vacation somewhere. Yeah, I noticed he was totally
- 30:35Speaker 4: gone this time.
- 30:36Speaker 1: That really surprised me in this because I was just like, yeah.
- 30:38Speaker 1: He has to have an opinion. Like, why isn't Samuel L.
- 30:41Speaker 1: in this somewhere?
- 30:42Speaker 3: But where does he fall now?
- 30:43Speaker 4: But ever since... Yeah, ever since S.H.I.E.L.D. is down... Yeah,
- 30:45Speaker 4: if there's no S.H.I.E.L.D. Yeah, where is... Especially... The other
- 30:49Speaker 4: thing that kind of I questioned about in the same
- 30:51Speaker 4: vein is Agent Hill. She's generally the de facto second
- 30:55Speaker 4: in command.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Really thought she was going to be in this. That
- 30:58Speaker 1: surprised me so much.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Well, I thought they were going to do the same
- 31:00Speaker 4: thing with Agent Hand as well. Because she was the
- 31:04Speaker 4: third in command, at least in the books.
- 31:07Speaker 2: And she.
- 31:08Speaker 4: And the books kind of ran S.H.I.E.L.D. into the ground
- 31:10Speaker 4: a little bit, which they hinted at they were looking
- 31:14Speaker 4: at doing in the show, but then they just killed
- 31:16Speaker 4: her off.
- 31:16Speaker 3: Right.
- 31:17Speaker 4: So they got rid of a lot of just S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 31:20Speaker 4: personnel just to restart, this is the new S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 31:23Speaker 3: Now.
- 31:24Speaker 2: Yep.
- 31:25Speaker 1: Now, in the comic, Hill is the face of the
- 31:28Speaker 1: whole act. I mean, she's the one that, like, gets
- 31:31Speaker 1: in Captain America's face and is like, sign this, you know, like,
- 31:33Speaker 1: right off the bat. I mean, she's the one that
- 31:35Speaker 1: is like, you know, scowling face, you know, you will
- 31:39Speaker 1: put your name on this paper. She's the one that's like,
- 31:42Speaker 1: her face is the bad guy in the comic book.
- 31:44Speaker 1: So I was surprised she wasn't in it at all.
- 31:46Speaker 1: They used, you know, the general that's now a senator.
- 31:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 31:50Speaker 1: You know, the would-be Red Hulk. You know, now he
- 31:53Speaker 1: was the face of the bag. And I feel like
- 31:54Speaker 1: that was such a missed opportunity. Like, I get that
- 31:57Speaker 1: you've kind of been building up. You're taking the United
- 31:59Speaker 1: Nations angle.
- 31:59Speaker 4: Well, she hasn't been around for so long.
- 32:01Speaker 1: But I just, I guess I feel like in retrospect,
- 32:04Speaker 1: maybe you shouldn't have popped S.H.I.E.L.D. yet. Like, maybe this
- 32:07Speaker 1: should have been what popped S.H.I.E.L.D. Maybe this. It seems
- 32:10Speaker 1: like that would have given more gravity to Nemo's whole plan.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I agree.
- 32:16Speaker 1: I agree. Not just... caused a bad blood situation because
- 32:19Speaker 1: they're still the Avengers they're still buddies you didn't really
- 32:23Speaker 1: break it up you definitely rocked the boat but like
- 32:26Speaker 1: if it would have been him doing this was a
- 32:29Speaker 1: final straw to break shield that would have felt much
- 32:32Speaker 1: more gravity and you could have had Nick Fury and
- 32:35Speaker 1: you know and Hill in there kind of toting that
- 32:38Speaker 1: line instead of William Hurt.
- 32:39Speaker 4: The problem I see with that is and that's a
- 32:42Speaker 4: great idea is that it would um Unfortunately, it would
- 32:46Speaker 4: have made the show suffer for them to wait that
- 32:49Speaker 4: long to figure out a foothold in their story because
- 32:51Speaker 4: they really didn't have a large handle on the direction
- 32:57Speaker 4: of their show until the fall of S.H.I.E.L.D. When they
- 33:01Speaker 4: finally established that, oh, yes, we all knew that Hydra
- 33:04Speaker 4: was going to be their ultimate villain. Now, a year
- 33:07Speaker 4: and a half later, finally got to it.
- 33:09Speaker 3: I think that's why I gave up really early.
- 33:11Speaker 4: And, you know, it's doing actually pretty well now that
- 33:14Speaker 4: they've established, well, that they've established Hydra as a villain
- 33:18Speaker 4: because now Hydra was a here and gone villain. But
- 33:22Speaker 4: now that it's the Inhuman Hive. But Hydra as just a,
- 33:29Speaker 4: you know, ever-present, ever-looming, not-villain-of-the-week would have still been great
- 33:33Speaker 4: for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. because that's who their villain is. Yeah.
- 33:38Speaker 3: Especially if they're not going to be super superhero-oriented. They
- 33:43Speaker 3: need regular guys in HYDRA outfits for them to beat
- 33:46Speaker 3: up every week.
- 33:46Speaker 4: And Zemo, actually, at that rate, would have been just
- 33:52Speaker 4: as equally important villain within HYDRA for Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 33:58Speaker 4: as well as the movie. That could have been one
- 34:00Speaker 4: of those characters to bridge that gap.
- 34:02Speaker 3: And they probably could have gotten him.
- 34:05Speaker 1: Well, it's strange because now I'm hearing buzz that now
- 34:07Speaker 1: they're considering not even bringing in the Defenders. Like they're
- 34:09Speaker 1: talking about now, they're like kind of doubling back. I
- 34:12Speaker 1: was like, well, we didn't say Daredevil will be Infinity War.
- 34:16Speaker 1: And it's like, you kind of did. You kind of
- 34:19Speaker 1: did before. Say Luke Cage and all those guys are
- 34:21Speaker 1: going to be here too. And now they're kind of like, well,
- 34:23Speaker 1: we never said the TVs and movies were the same universe.
- 34:26Speaker 1: I'm like, Yeah, they did. They heavily insinuated it for years.
- 34:31Speaker 4: I mean, when you have news articles on the back of....
- 34:36Speaker 3: When they're referencing the incident on the TV show.
- 34:39Speaker 4: Hey, Battle for New York, clearly in the same universe.
- 34:42Speaker 1: When I heard part of the... I think what sparked
- 34:45Speaker 1: some of that was... Oh, what's her name?
- 34:49Speaker 4: The mother.
- 34:51Speaker 1: The mother with the dead child that talks to Stark. Oh, yeah.
- 34:54Speaker 8: Miriam.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Because she's also in Luke Cage. She's going to be
- 34:58Speaker 1: a villain in the Luke Cage stuff. And they're like, wait,
- 35:00Speaker 1: was that her? And they're like, no, no, no, that's separate.
- 35:02Speaker 1: It's like, no, it's not. What do you mean that's separate?
- 35:04Speaker 1: It's like, okay, you guys goofed.
- 35:06Speaker 4: Casting.
- 35:07Speaker 1: Admit that. Don't say they're separate now because they're not.
- 35:10Speaker 4: Yeah, that's Miriam, I think. Miriam's, was that Sparks?
- 35:16Speaker 1: I forget.
- 35:17Speaker 4: Yeah, she had some role in the books. I don't remember, but.
- 35:22Speaker 1: Because there was a mom with a dead child.
- 35:24Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 35:25Speaker 1: You know, that really gets to Stark.
- 35:27Speaker 4: And I think that was part of the original reason
- 35:30Speaker 4: why Civil War came about was because of the third-rate
- 35:35Speaker 4: superheroes trying to take down a crazy supervillain in Connecticut
- 35:38Speaker 4: and blowing up a school, which honestly would have been
- 35:42Speaker 4: a pretty good plot line to throw into the show
- 35:46Speaker 4: to lead that into the movie.
- 35:48Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 35:48Speaker 1: Because that's their third-rate superheroes on the show. I think
- 35:53Speaker 1: that's why I was so dedicated to S.H.I.E.L.D. for the
- 35:56Speaker 1: first season. Because I was just like, any episode now,
- 36:00Speaker 1: we're going to get a tie-in. Any episode now, we're
- 36:02Speaker 1: going to get a tie-in. And I was like, wait,
- 36:04Speaker 1: is this really going to be independent? I'm like, that's
- 36:07Speaker 1: not going to do it for me. It really feels
- 36:08Speaker 1: like Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Should be.
- 36:13Speaker 4: While it should be its own thing, it should also
- 36:15Speaker 4: be an appendice to any of the movies.
- 36:18Speaker 3: It should be bridging because we've got, especially in these
- 36:20Speaker 3: bigger movies like this, it's like you've got almost a
- 36:23Speaker 3: year sometimes before you get to another one. So we
- 36:25Speaker 3: could have them towing the line in between going, hey guys,
- 36:28Speaker 3: remember this? And this is going on. Don't forget next summer,
- 36:31Speaker 3: the big movie's coming. So from their standpoint, it would
- 36:34Speaker 3: make sense.
- 36:35Speaker 6: Yeah, the Infinity Gauntlet is such a huge story. I
- 36:37Speaker 6: can only hope that they're trying to preserve some sort
- 36:40Speaker 6: of surprise and that we'll be seeing Daredevil, Jessica Jones, S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 36:44Speaker 6: somehow involved, even as a cameo. From a business standpoint,
- 36:47Speaker 6: maybe it doesn't make a lot of sense, but I could... Okay,
- 36:51Speaker 6: I admit.
- 36:51Speaker 4: We don't need Daredevil in there.
- 36:53Speaker 6: I want to see Daredevil experiencing the overarching story of
- 36:58Speaker 6: Infinity Gauntlet maybe for three minutes. I guess it would
- 37:02Speaker 6: feel the same way as the Spider-Man bit being crammed
- 37:05Speaker 6: into Civil War. But we were talking earlier about how
- 37:09Speaker 6: the MCU is kind of like a bowl of Lucky Charms.
- 37:11Speaker 6: That would be a nice, big, chunky marshmallow among the
- 37:16Speaker 6: oat cereal.
- 37:16Speaker 4: I'm, at this point, more curious where they're going with
- 37:20Speaker 4: the Infinity Gauntlet in regards to how they handled the Vision.
- 37:23Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah. And they gave us a quick little nod, like,
- 37:27Speaker 6: funny about this gem in my forehead, right? So now
- 37:30Speaker 6: the average moviegoer is asking that question too, or at
- 37:33Speaker 6: least it's been planted.
- 37:34Speaker 4: It should be. Yeah. Because, I mean, we have the
- 37:37Speaker 4: whole budding relationship between Vision and Wanda, at least as
- 37:40Speaker 4: it should be. It's going to end for completely different
- 37:44Speaker 4: reasons than it did in the books, which is going
- 37:47Speaker 4: to be interesting to see what Wanda will do when
- 37:52Speaker 4: the Vision is ultimately removed from the picture and who
- 37:56Speaker 4: does it. Is it going to be her against Thanos?
- 37:58Speaker 4: Is she going to play some integral part in how
- 38:03Speaker 4: they take down Thanos because she gets pissed because her
- 38:06Speaker 4: lover gets destroyed?
- 38:09Speaker 3: They're building her up nicely. Again, I think she's an
- 38:13Speaker 3: amazing actress anyway, but I really do like that they're
- 38:16Speaker 3: working her in as sort of a key character each
- 38:19Speaker 3: time to the point that it becomes a huge plot point.
- 38:21Speaker 1: That's what's ironic. It's like her and Vision really at
- 38:24Speaker 1: any point could have just been like, this fight's done.
- 38:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:27Speaker 1: I think that's why they tried to play up he
- 38:30Speaker 1: was sort of fuzzy because of his feelings for her
- 38:32Speaker 1: and that's why he was kind of here and there
- 38:33Speaker 1: in the fight because it's like, yeah, Vision could have
- 38:36Speaker 1: shut that down.
- 38:37Speaker 4: At any point he wanted to. And he kind of
- 38:39Speaker 4: did with War Machine.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 38:41Speaker 4: Just chuck him out. One hit.
- 38:43Speaker 1: One shot. That's why in the comic there was a
- 38:46Speaker 1: lot of people that played neutral. That's why Dr. Strange,
- 38:49Speaker 1: Professor X, and these people are like, we are going
- 38:51Speaker 1: to stay out of this. Because they knew, if these
- 38:53Speaker 1: guys are involved, they could shut it down immediately.
- 38:56Speaker 4: And the X-Men were like, yeah, we've gone.
- 38:58Speaker 1: Through this before. No omegas.
- 39:01Speaker 6: And Professor X has to be depowered every movie because
- 39:05Speaker 6: he's a game changer.
- 39:06Speaker 4: Right, right.
- 39:07Speaker 3: Which maybe that's why, like, and it's kind of interesting. Again,
- 39:10Speaker 3: I like seeing where Vision is at this point because
- 39:12Speaker 3: he's still sort of finding himself. He's like, I don't know.
- 39:16Speaker 4: What the hell I am.
- 39:16Speaker 1: Can I just call something out real quick?
- 39:18Speaker 3: So it's probably for the best coming from that standpoint
- 39:21Speaker 3: because then he can, like, that's the reason he's not
- 39:24Speaker 3: just shutting everything down is he doesn't even know for
- 39:26Speaker 3: sure that he can do that or how to do
- 39:28Speaker 3: that or he's.
- 39:28Speaker 1: Still kind of finding his footing. His makeup looks gorgeous.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Can I just say, I don't understand why Jennifer Lawrence
- 39:36Speaker 1: looked like she just played in finger paints for Mystique
- 39:39Speaker 1: and he looks so... Dry and smooth and gritty. His
- 39:43Speaker 1: face looks gorgeous.
- 39:45Speaker 3: I was looking at it.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Can't they get that right in X-Men?
- 39:48Speaker 3: On that big screen, I was like, did they go
- 39:50Speaker 3: back and CG touch it up?
- 39:51Speaker 1: They must have.
- 39:52Speaker 3: Because it looks perfect.
- 39:53Speaker 6: It just looks so clean it looks like prosthetics but
- 39:56Speaker 6: i know that it can't all be prosthetic it's.
- 39:58Speaker 1: So perfect i'm just like they had to fix this
- 40:00Speaker 1: a little it must have been a budget thing because
- 40:02Speaker 1: i don't understand how jennifer lawrence lets them put that
- 40:05Speaker 1: i mean it's so shiny and wet looking she looks
- 40:07Speaker 1: so fake blue.
- 40:08Speaker 4: What's funny is that they did it better with rebecca
- 40:10Speaker 4: romaine oh i i read 16 years ago.
- 40:13Speaker 6: That she was very happy that she may have had
- 40:16Speaker 6: a hand in this that she in them to make
- 40:18Speaker 6: it a onesie instead of multiple applications for the Mystique suit.
- 40:23Speaker 6: It's essentially a bodysuit. It's faster and it shows on screen.
- 40:29Speaker 6: It clearly looks like a bodysuit.
- 40:31Speaker 3: It's just hard to make that blue work. Because they.
- 40:34Speaker 1: I think it could be done.
- 40:36Speaker 4: Which is also why she spent a great deal of
- 40:38Speaker 4: the movie not in that suit.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Well, because everybody wants to see Jennifer Lawrence.
- 40:42Speaker 4: They know where the money is.
- 40:44Speaker 3: They're just like, we paid for this. We're going to
- 40:46Speaker 3: get her on screen as much as possible.
- 40:48Speaker 6: We're talking about the CGI. My personal favorite moment was
- 40:52Speaker 6: honestly the 1991 Rodney Dangerfield Back to School.
- 40:57Speaker 3: That's impressive.
- 40:59Speaker 1: How did they do that?
- 41:00Speaker 7: Outstanding.
- 41:00Speaker 6: Outstanding. With the is it eyeliner, is it not, eyelashes
- 41:04Speaker 6: and everything.
- 41:05Speaker 4: It was beautiful.
- 41:06Speaker 3: Yeah, I was looking really close. I'm like, okay, I
- 41:09Speaker 3: know more or less how they did it. Usually you
- 41:12Speaker 3: can see the strings on this really heavy. And I'm like, damn,
- 41:15Speaker 3: this looks like.
- 41:16Speaker 4: It was good. It just looks like they pulled old footage.
- 41:19Speaker 4: If they had this technology back in the Forrest Gump days,
- 41:21Speaker 4: and they made it look good with Forrest Gump.
- 41:23Speaker 3: They did, for the time, yeah. But this is amazing.
- 41:26Speaker 1: They made it to Michael Douglas, too, in Ant-Man, I believe.
- 41:29Speaker 1: Looked really good.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Really good. A little bit, yeah.
- 41:32Speaker 3: Like, I could tell with that one. This one, I'm like,
- 41:34Speaker 3: did they just find an unused scene somewhere?
- 41:36Speaker 1: No, me and who I was with, we were both
- 41:38Speaker 1: looking at each other like, Okay, is that a dude
- 41:40Speaker 1: that looks a whole lot like Robert Downey Jr.? Or
- 41:43Speaker 1: is that like CGI? Like, how does he look so young?
- 41:47Speaker 6: And that was a triple slam dunk for me because
- 41:49Speaker 6: as the film moves on, you know, it's a nice,
- 41:53Speaker 6: it's a treat to see this de-aged RDJ. And plus,
- 41:58Speaker 6: he built a holodeck. That's fun. It's a technological marvel.
- 42:01Speaker 6: And it's a fun little gag. But it also feeds
- 42:05Speaker 6: into the surprise twist at the end. Oh, this was
- 42:10Speaker 6: setting up his relationship with his father, who is now dead.
- 42:13Speaker 6: And oh, how did he die?
- 42:14Speaker 4: All that business. Now, the other thing about that whole
- 42:16Speaker 4: beginning with him speaking at MIT. Again, I know it
- 42:23Speaker 4: was because of post-production and writing and having to throw
- 42:25Speaker 4: in Parker later. but if they had kind of shifted
- 42:29Speaker 4: that a little bit, and let's say he's doing this
- 42:32Speaker 4: talk at Midtown High School.
- 42:34Speaker 3: Oh, wow. It did seem weird that he just knew
- 42:38Speaker 3: about Parker.
- 42:39Speaker 4: Right, something a little more closer to where Parker could
- 42:43Speaker 4: have been for that talk. That would have made that
- 42:46Speaker 4: tie in a little bit easier to believe that there's
- 42:51Speaker 4: a better connection going on here.
- 42:53Speaker 3: That's the part that, again, I was just like, I
- 42:55Speaker 3: like where they went with it. It's a lot of fun.
- 42:57Speaker 3: I'm fine with it. But if I want to nitpick,
- 42:59Speaker 3: I'm just like, why all of a sudden he's like,
- 43:01Speaker 3: I've got a guy.
- 43:02Speaker 4: I'm like, when did you get this guy? I mean,
- 43:05Speaker 4: Ant-Man didn't necessarily need to be in there either at
- 43:08Speaker 4: the same time. At the same token. But again, it
- 43:10Speaker 4: was fun that he was there.
- 43:11Speaker 3: At least they've already built him into the universe. We
- 43:13Speaker 3: knew at some point he's going to come in, so
- 43:15Speaker 3: it's fine.
- 43:16Speaker 4: And to be honest, Civil War was just a better
- 43:19Speaker 4: Avengers movie than either of those two before it. Without question.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Well, okay, maybe we could question that, but this is
- 43:27Speaker 6: my favorite Avengers movie.
- 43:28Speaker 4: Without question.
- 43:29Speaker 3: Well, I was going to say, this is definitely Avengers 2.5.
- 43:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Whether we call it a Captain America movie or not,
- 43:35Speaker 3: it's pretty Avengers-y.
- 43:36Speaker 4: Right.
- 43:38Speaker 6: Does anyone know what the budget was? Because that movie
- 43:40Speaker 6: has to be expensive. With all the star power they
- 43:42Speaker 6: crammed into this thing.
- 43:43Speaker 4: I don't think it was Avengers expensive. Yeah, yeah. I mean,
- 43:48Speaker 4: I'm sure it was.
- 43:49Speaker 1: Again, it's weird.
- 43:52Speaker 3: That the Russos are going to go on and make
- 43:54Speaker 3: Infinity War because they seem very grounded. All of their
- 43:57Speaker 3: stories so far, which are these two, have been very
- 44:00Speaker 3: real world for the most part. They're like, we're dealing with...
- 44:04Speaker 3: A terrorist organization in Winter Soldier and like this one,
- 44:06Speaker 3: we're still kind of dealing with like him blowing up
- 44:09Speaker 3: a building and like everything's sort of tangible in this
- 44:11Speaker 3: world for the most part, considering it's a bunch of superheroes.
- 44:15Speaker 2: Right.
- 44:15Speaker 3: So I'm like, it is it does seem like they're
- 44:17Speaker 3: trying to do something in the real world that would
- 44:19Speaker 3: also not take crazy Thor special effects. where they're going
- 44:24Speaker 3: to spend a million plus every scene for Ragnarok because
- 44:28Speaker 3: they have to animate everything.
- 44:30Speaker 4: Yeah, Surtur is going to be kind of crazy.
- 44:32Speaker 3: They're throwing these guys into Infinity War because that's going
- 44:35Speaker 3: to be a much grander scale type of battle. But
- 44:39Speaker 3: I'm glad because I think they're great filmmakers. It'll be
- 44:43Speaker 3: interesting to see how they handle something that's way more universe-based.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Than just normal human fighting. Again, I don't want to
- 44:51Speaker 1: keep scattering the focus off of this movie but i
- 44:54Speaker 1: i mean if you want to talk about money and
- 44:55Speaker 1: cgi if the ending is anything like the comic i
- 45:01Speaker 1: don't know how you're gonna animate all the stuff they're
- 45:04Speaker 1: gonna have to do for this final fight with thanos
- 45:06Speaker 1: because i mean like everyone is there it's like the
- 45:08Speaker 1: entire universe is at one spot the amount of people.
- 45:12Speaker 4: And things and Nova Corps.
- 45:14Speaker 1: Guardians of the Galaxy. It's going to look like a
- 45:18Speaker 1: CGI movie because so much of it is going to
- 45:20Speaker 1: have to be CGI.
- 45:22Speaker 6: The airport scene, I think, was a warm-up. They're in
- 45:25Speaker 6: the batter's box.
- 45:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I could definitely see that.
- 45:27Speaker 4: Because that worked so.
- 45:28Speaker 6: Much better than I thought it would when I saw
- 45:31Speaker 6: where it was taking place.
- 45:32Speaker 4: Now, explain to me, Team Tony, so you're concerned about
- 45:40Speaker 4: all this collateral damage and your little fights that you're having.
- 45:45Speaker 4: And granted, it was evacuated beforehand, but really, you're still
- 45:49Speaker 4: going to blow up a half of an airport in
- 45:52Speaker 4: the process?
- 45:54Speaker 3: Well, he can write him a check. It's fine. But, well,
- 45:58Speaker 3: that was, again, if we're getting to the airport scene,
- 46:02Speaker 3: if I'm nitpicking, that's the part that I'm like, that
- 46:05Speaker 3: you can really feel almost as much as the Spider-Man
- 46:08Speaker 3: in general is, It's just fan service.
- 46:11Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 46:11Speaker 3: Because it really, it barely has bearing on where the
- 46:15Speaker 3: story goes. It kind of does at the end, but
- 46:18Speaker 3: the most of the fight is just for geeks in
- 46:20Speaker 3: their seats. They're just like, this is it. This is
- 46:22Speaker 3: what we came here for. I can't believe they're getting
- 46:23Speaker 3: to it now where it's, yeah, we still got half
- 46:26Speaker 3: the movie to go. So obviously it's not going to
- 46:27Speaker 3: be the big finale. And I feel like it really does.
- 46:30Speaker 3: doesn't have that much weight because I feel like almost
- 46:33Speaker 3: everybody there is pulling their punches. Like, they make the
- 46:36Speaker 3: comment between those two characters short of Black Panther. Black
- 46:39Speaker 3: Panther had reason to beat that dude up.
- 46:41Speaker 1: I got the impression that that's why when Rhodey got hurt,
- 46:44Speaker 1: that's why... Pretty much everyone except Black Panther.
- 46:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 46:48Speaker 1: Stopped fighting because, like, oh, fuck. Like, someone hit someone.
- 46:51Speaker 1: You know, all this time they've been doing pull punches.
- 46:53Speaker 1: When someone got hit, they're like, oh, shit.
- 46:55Speaker 4: And to be honest, that's the way it kind of
- 46:57Speaker 4: happened in the book, too.
- 46:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 47:00Speaker 4: I mean, everybody was not really wanting to go about
- 47:02Speaker 4: this fight. And they were pulling their punches whenever they could,
- 47:04Speaker 4: whenever they had their little issues. Until, you know, Captain
- 47:08Speaker 4: America went down. And then that stopped everything.
- 47:11Speaker 3: It's just comparing them because then we get to like,
- 47:14Speaker 3: that one seems like such a fun, goofy comic book fight.
- 47:18Speaker 3: That fight at the end is fucking hardcore. Like it
- 47:21Speaker 3: is just because it's real because everybody there is kind
- 47:25Speaker 3: of fighting for their lives. Like literally everybody at that
- 47:29Speaker 3: point wants to kill Bucky and like the Iron Man
- 47:32Speaker 3: has lost it. Like he is just, you don't see
- 47:34Speaker 3: him come on him.
- 47:36Speaker 4: You killed my mother.
- 47:37Speaker 3: You do at this point. And I'm like, Oh shit. Like,
- 47:39Speaker 3: Tony Stark is a powerful dude, but he's always in control.
- 47:42Speaker 3: Watching him lose it is a little unnerving. So I'm like, oh,
- 47:46Speaker 3: he's going to kill that dude if he gets a chance.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Depending on the suit he's wearing, he's arguably the strongest
- 47:51Speaker 1: guy because that's the whole thing. He has a suit
- 47:52Speaker 1: for everybody. So depending on what he's wearing, he is
- 47:55Speaker 1: the strongest superhero, especially with the one that. The bio-organic one.
- 48:00Speaker 1: The one where he thinks of it and it just appears.
- 48:02Speaker 1: That was like the real crazy strong suit where it
- 48:05Speaker 1: was like, is he beatable? He almost made himself Omega
- 48:08Speaker 1: at that point.
- 48:09Speaker 4: He even surprises himself constantly, too. I mean, the one
- 48:13Speaker 4: fight he has earlier with Zemo, and he has just
- 48:17Speaker 4: the gauntlet that he wears just to stop the bullet.
- 48:19Speaker 4: He's like, oh, wow, that actually worked.
- 48:21Speaker 1: I got the impression on that face that was... I
- 48:25Speaker 1: got a different thing from that. When he stops a bullet,
- 48:27Speaker 1: to me, that was him going, oh my God, he
- 48:29Speaker 1: just tried to kill me.
- 48:30Speaker 3: That was, yeah, I got that too.
- 48:31Speaker 4: I thought that was his acting.
- 48:32Speaker 1: Skills like selling that half second where like when it clicked,
- 48:37Speaker 1: it was almost like he looked up at him from
- 48:38Speaker 1: the gun like.
- 48:39Speaker 3: He's like, you just tried to kill me.
- 48:40Speaker 1: You just tried to kill me.
- 48:41Speaker 3: And by the way, I'm not in my suit, damn it.
- 48:44Speaker 3: That's always in my suit.
- 48:46Speaker 1: Yeah, I like how he makes it on Mario 2.
- 48:47Speaker 1: They're like, you got your suit? He's like, what? I'm like,
- 48:49Speaker 1: my three-piece?
- 48:49Speaker 4: He's just in my bitchin' suit now. It's okay.
- 48:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know. Again, I just love what he's
- 48:55Speaker 3: done with that Tony Stark character. So watching him by
- 48:58Speaker 3: the end of this movie finally be at the point
- 49:00Speaker 3: of like, I'm not in control. That's a little scary
- 49:04Speaker 3: knowing that character as well as we do. And then also,
- 49:07Speaker 3: when you come around, Bucky's kind of out of the
- 49:09Speaker 3: fight at that point. When you see Captain America beating
- 49:13Speaker 3: the hell out of him, I'm like, I'm again, it
- 49:17Speaker 3: got close enough that I'm like, is he gonna, I
- 49:19Speaker 3: was like, yeah yeah and I was like finally it
- 49:21Speaker 3: got to that point of him just taking out the
- 49:23Speaker 3: you know the little power grid there I'm like okay
- 49:27Speaker 3: at least we didn't cross that line as our little
- 49:30Speaker 3: bitching session with the Batman V Superman right that's the
- 49:33Speaker 3: difference Captain America went I will Do what I have
- 49:36Speaker 3: to do to stop you. I'm not going to kill
- 49:38Speaker 3: you because I'm Captain America.
- 49:41Speaker 1: He didn't need to hear that Tony Stark's mom name
- 49:44Speaker 1: was Samantha or whatever it is.
- 49:46Speaker 4: And at that rate, Captain America, I mean, when he
- 49:48Speaker 4: needs to, still has no problem with just taking a
- 49:50Speaker 4: gun and shooting somebody. He's still a soldier. Yeah, that's
- 49:53Speaker 4: always been his stance. But yeah, his first thought for
- 49:57Speaker 4: his friends especially or anybody that, you know, He sees
- 50:01Speaker 4: fit that needs to be stopped. That's his first... That
- 50:05Speaker 4: is his first.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:08Speaker 4: His first action is to stop them to figure out, hey,
- 50:12Speaker 4: you know, can we work through this? Can we not? Okay, fine. Well,
- 50:15Speaker 4: then you're gonna have to die.
- 50:17Speaker 3: But it's still like that line. Like, I feel like
- 50:19Speaker 3: had he just gone ahead and off Tony Stark, there's
- 50:22Speaker 3: no coming back. Like, there's no I'm Captain America anymore.
- 50:25Speaker 3: He's just... He's got to go Hulk it. He's got
- 50:29Speaker 3: to go live on a fucking island because you can't
- 50:32Speaker 3: come back from that. Not him as that character. He's
- 50:35Speaker 3: way too noble and way too wholesome that if he
- 50:38Speaker 3: crosses the line and kills his friend, he's done.
- 50:41Speaker 4: There's no more superhero. Tony Stark is probably actually the
- 50:44Speaker 4: only person that would end up at that route.
- 50:49Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 50:50Speaker 4: And it would only be by accident. Yeah. Because.
- 50:52Speaker 3: Even then, I could see him doing it and then, well,
- 50:54Speaker 3: we watch him struggle with everything from, you know, from
- 50:58Speaker 3: the first Avengers movie on. He's kind of dealing with
- 51:01Speaker 3: his own mortality.
- 51:02Speaker 4: From his first movie on.
- 51:03Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:03Speaker 3: It's like he's always struggling with it.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Evans and De Niro nailed it so much. Like, it
- 51:07Speaker 1: didn't matter because, like, The comic was what made me
- 51:11Speaker 1: like Captain America. Up until that point, I felt like
- 51:13Speaker 1: I kind of, at the time, loved Captain America with Superman.
- 51:16Speaker 1: It's like, you're just a goody-two-shoes guy that's never going
- 51:18Speaker 1: to do wrong because that's just your thing. You're always
- 51:20Speaker 1: going to be the shining example. So again, going back
- 51:23Speaker 1: to when I was so surprised he went rogue, this
- 51:25Speaker 1: is when I started going, wow, Captain America's got balls.
- 51:29Speaker 1: And then they really started putting a heavy emphasis in
- 51:31Speaker 1: the comic. I'm like, he's like a guerrilla war tactician.
- 51:35Speaker 1: He can do stuff. He's a smart dude. It's just
- 51:37Speaker 1: usually been for the side of good quoteys or whatever
- 51:40Speaker 1: yeah seeing him go rogue was great and that made
- 51:42Speaker 1: me appreciate it more in the movies man Stark was
- 51:46Speaker 1: so great for me being a Captain America guy in
- 51:50Speaker 1: this particular situation Stark was the greatest heel ever you
- 51:55Speaker 1: there's so many times I loathed him in great ways
- 51:57Speaker 1: like you are being such a good heel right now
- 52:00Speaker 1: you're such a villain that like Evans should have had
- 52:03Speaker 1: the line of sometimes I want to punch you in
- 52:05Speaker 1: your smug face cause it's like I feel like that's
- 52:07Speaker 1: on Stark he's the one that's always you know I
- 52:10Speaker 1: just love both of them I feel like Evans completely
- 52:12Speaker 1: sold the conflict yeah He's got a best friend right
- 52:16Speaker 1: here that he knows did not by choice do any
- 52:19Speaker 1: of these actions. He knows that. It's not in question
- 52:22Speaker 1: to him. The rest of the world, it's a complete
- 52:24Speaker 1: life story. He knows this guy was brainwashed. This is
- 52:27Speaker 1: his childhood friend.
- 52:29Speaker 3: Yeah, it's that personal connection, too.
- 52:30Speaker 1: He's going to stand up for this guy, because to him,
- 52:31Speaker 1: and arguably, it is the right thing to do. That
- 52:35Speaker 1: man is not guilty.
- 52:36Speaker 4: And he's always redeemable.
- 52:37Speaker 1: He did not make the choices to kill these people,
- 52:39Speaker 1: and he would not do it if he had his mind.
- 52:42Speaker 1: But on the flip, you're right there with Stark, too, though.
- 52:46Speaker 1: You can be like, oh, my gosh, like, we can't
- 52:48Speaker 1: be lifting cities into the sky and dropping them and
- 52:52Speaker 1: dropping helicarriers on Washington, like.
- 52:56Speaker 4: And also, it doesn't matter who this guy is. He's still,
- 52:58Speaker 4: you know, I mean, and at that point to start,
- 53:01Speaker 4: you know, he was not really necessarily going the same
- 53:05Speaker 4: direction as Cap. But up until he found out that
- 53:11Speaker 4: it was at Bucky's hands and his parents died, Stark
- 53:14Speaker 4: was still kind of like. we can figure out a
- 53:16Speaker 4: way to i feel.
- 53:17Speaker 1: Like he's still at the long term in mind he's
- 53:19Speaker 1: like this is gonna be rough right now but we're
- 53:21Speaker 1: gonna bring it back around down the road we're gonna
- 53:24Speaker 1: figure out how to work around the government i feel
- 53:26Speaker 1: like in his head that was like that's the nod
- 53:28Speaker 1: he kept trying to give the camera yeah yeah let's sign.
- 53:31Speaker 3: This paper nudge nudge all right sign this thing we're
- 53:34Speaker 3: still gonna.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Do our thing yeah but yeah let's sign this paper
- 53:37Speaker 1: already and quit making it such a point and just
- 53:41Speaker 1: understand we're gonna do our own thing anyway.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Even after he crossed the line he was like all
- 53:44Speaker 3: right we're taking his shield away but at least you're
- 53:46Speaker 3: not going to prison like he was trying to work
- 53:48Speaker 3: with him every step of the way and like captain's
- 53:50Speaker 3: still kind of.
- 53:51Speaker 1: And he wasn't like that in the comic no in
- 53:53Speaker 1: the comic he was very dead set again he signed
- 53:55Speaker 1: his paper is why and so i dug that he
- 53:58Speaker 1: at least seemed more compassionate he also had all of
- 54:00Speaker 1: shield to back him at that point too which is
- 54:03Speaker 1: what made him feel more like a villain to me
- 54:04Speaker 1: because like oh now that shield is like one i
- 54:07Speaker 1: guess Because.
- 54:08Speaker 4: He was the director of S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 54:09Speaker 1: Hill still was talking shit to Tony, too, though, in
- 54:12Speaker 1: the comic. I mean, it's not totally fair to say S.H.I.E.L.D.
- 54:15Speaker 1: was under his command. Like I said, Hill should have
- 54:17Speaker 1: been in this. She was the villain in the comic.
- 54:19Speaker 1: She was the one that I was like, someone punch her.
- 54:22Speaker 1: I don't want you guys punching each other. Punch Hill. Like, seriously, Willow,
- 54:25Speaker 1: get over here and hit her in the face.
- 54:27Speaker 3: That's what I think is so impressive about this movie
- 54:29Speaker 3: is it does all of these little things that, like,
- 54:32Speaker 3: in the beginning, we assume, again, because they build it
- 54:34Speaker 3: on this big, like, sign that signed the contract.
- 54:37Speaker 1: Like the whole thing is going to be built.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Around that and it kind of is that first third
- 54:42Speaker 3: you're like registration act that's what it's about it's like
- 54:45Speaker 3: we're gonna we're gonna have this little you know fight
- 54:46Speaker 3: about that and then you get midway in you're like
- 54:49Speaker 3: oh okay so it's the bucky thing now that's gonna
- 54:52Speaker 3: be what they're oh no way so like there's at
- 54:54Speaker 3: least four times when you're like oh this is also
- 54:57Speaker 3: about oh okay wait this is also like it just
- 55:00Speaker 3: gets bigger and bigger by the end it's so complex
- 55:03Speaker 3: that you're like No one is right. Like, there is
- 55:06Speaker 3: no right side.
- 55:06Speaker 1: Was it ever confusing to you? Just to go off
- 55:08Speaker 1: of the BVS talk, were you confused by the plot
- 55:11Speaker 1: at any point?
- 55:13Speaker 3: No, I mean, it's massively more complex. But I'd say
- 55:17Speaker 3: that in a good way. Like, I'm just like, I
- 55:19Speaker 3: was thrilled with it because I was afraid it was
- 55:22Speaker 3: going to... Again, we're... If you sell things short, like, oh,
- 55:24Speaker 3: it's a comic book movie.
- 55:25Speaker 4: It's going to be dumb.
- 55:26Speaker 3: It's going to be a one-off little thing. I was
- 55:28Speaker 3: just like, it's so layered that I'm like, it's why
- 55:32Speaker 3: I like this series of movies. Because they don't write
- 55:34Speaker 3: them off as crappy comic book movies. It's a layered,
- 55:37Speaker 3: well-written movie, first and foremost.
- 55:39Speaker 4: The plot was very complex, but what made it work
- 55:43Speaker 4: was that the character motivations were very simple.
- 55:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 55:46Speaker 1: And you could... understand them right like you identify you're
- 55:49Speaker 1: like like i said like earlier like i feel like
- 55:51Speaker 1: this topic i can say things for stark and evans
- 55:54Speaker 1: and that.
- 55:55Speaker 4: Really helped storytelling because you you could understand the character
- 56:00Speaker 4: motivations where they're thinking what they were going what you.
- 56:03Speaker 1: Had another personal experiences to do reinforce that i think
- 56:07Speaker 1: the movie's a really good.
- 56:08Speaker 4: Job with how the story and the plot changes around
- 56:11Speaker 4: them which which is actually what it needed to do
- 56:14Speaker 4: they could have done differently again the whole weird super
- 56:18Speaker 4: soldier mcguffin at the end but that's neither here nor
- 56:22Speaker 4: there so that's.
- 56:23Speaker 3: The part i again by the end that's why i
- 56:25Speaker 3: thought it's pieced together so genius is when we get
- 56:29Speaker 3: to zemo at the end there we're like you can't.
- 56:32Speaker 1: I felt like i was watching saul for a moment
- 56:34Speaker 1: when they went in there he was behind a glass
- 56:36Speaker 1: and there's a tv in the room like wait that's
- 56:38Speaker 1: where it started wrong for like wait what's going on
- 56:40Speaker 1: What's going on? It almost felt like he was pulling
- 56:42Speaker 1: a Saul moment. But you can't blame him at that point.
- 56:47Speaker 1: You're listening to him, and I'm like, you can't say he's.
- 56:49Speaker 3: The quote-unquote bad guy anymore when you're watching the next
- 56:53Speaker 3: scene over, Tony Stark beat the hell out of somebody
- 56:55Speaker 3: for the same thing. It's just watching these two guys
- 56:58Speaker 3: grieve with losing their family, and you're like, he went
- 57:02Speaker 3: about it a different way, but he's also massively... distraught
- 57:07Speaker 3: and like he chose a pretty evil way to go
- 57:09Speaker 3: about it but it's the same it's the same vengeance
- 57:12Speaker 3: it's the same and that again by the end where
- 57:14Speaker 3: we get to the point black panther comes.
- 57:16Speaker 1: In by the end is like this vengeance is.
- 57:18Speaker 4: Doing no one any good i still never quite caught
- 57:22Speaker 4: on how zemo um unless it was through his father
- 57:28Speaker 4: yeah how he knew what he knew, like how he
- 57:33Speaker 4: got to any of his information. I suppose it doesn't
- 57:35Speaker 4: really matter in the end how he got his information.
- 57:38Speaker 1: You would assume Hydra, right? Like since Hydra was S.H.I.E.L.D.,
- 57:42Speaker 1: wouldn't he kind of be privy to everything that Hydra knew?
- 57:45Speaker 4: He never.
- 57:47Speaker 1: Was he not S.H.I.E.L.D.? Did they not? I mean, he
- 57:49Speaker 1: was Hydra, right?
- 57:50Speaker 4: No, Zemo, well... And he had those files with everything.
- 57:55Speaker 4: Zemo Sr., his father was Deep Hydra, like World War
- 57:59Speaker 4: II Hydra. Um, they never really, I guess they kind
- 58:03Speaker 4: of touched on the fact that, that Zemo was at
- 58:06Speaker 4: least tangentially involved with Hydra, but never really active in
- 58:11Speaker 4: the whole thing, especially since he had a family that
- 58:13Speaker 4: never needed to be, uh, that never was anything he
- 58:17Speaker 4: sought until his, um, family died. But then at that point,
- 58:23Speaker 4: Hydra had been gone for a while. There wasn't a
- 58:26Speaker 4: lot left. So he had to do a lot of,
- 58:28Speaker 4: dirty work on his own, which is kind of interesting
- 58:30Speaker 4: that when was he trained? How did he get to
- 58:33Speaker 4: know this? Where did he get his information from? How
- 58:36Speaker 4: did he know who to talk to to find the
- 58:37Speaker 4: information he needed to get in order to rot the
- 58:42Speaker 4: Avengers from the inside? Where were his connections? He had
- 58:46Speaker 4: good connections, which is pretty interesting.
- 58:48Speaker 1: 20-some years, right? Didn't the stuff start in 91?
- 58:52Speaker 3: That's the soldier, yeah, the super soldier.
- 58:54Speaker 4: The Soviet super soldier.
- 58:55Speaker 1: He had 24 Five years to get all this info.
- 59:01Speaker 1: I mean, if at all, I'm just playing devil's advocate.
- 59:03Speaker 1: I'm just, I'm not, I agree. Like I, I still
- 59:06Speaker 1: have a problem kind of rationalizing how. he knew he
- 59:10Speaker 1: could set up the tv scene at the end i
- 59:12Speaker 1: mean how did he know that tony was going to
- 59:14Speaker 1: visit that falcon was going to cough up the information
- 59:18Speaker 1: on where Cap was and that Tony was going to
- 59:21Speaker 1: go there, too. How did he know he was going
- 59:23Speaker 1: to get all three of them in that facility where
- 59:26Speaker 1: he could hide behind a protective barrier? That, to me,
- 59:30Speaker 1: I still can't explain.
- 59:31Speaker 3: That's a little convenient, but.
- 59:32Speaker 1: The only thing I can think of is he was
- 59:34Speaker 1: there hiding? They came to his house. He's just like, well,
- 59:36Speaker 1: I'm up here hiding now. I did it. And then
- 59:38Speaker 1: I was like, oh, shit, I got company. That's the
- 59:41Speaker 1: only thing I could think of because there's no way
- 59:43Speaker 1: he masterminded it. Because we gave Lex a ton of
- 59:45Speaker 1: crap for how did he get Batman there. And then
- 59:48Speaker 1: with this, I was like, how did he get Tony there?
- 59:49Speaker 1: He didn't know Tony was going to show up to
- 59:52Speaker 1: have the tape ready to make him fight Bucky. And
- 59:55Speaker 1: Captain America wasn't going to fight Bucky.
- 59:57Speaker 8: He knew.
- 59:57Speaker 1: And to me, I would just say that to me,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: going back to things I didn't notice, I had no
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: idea Captain America knew about Bucky killing his parents from
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: Winter Soldier. It wasn't from this movie. They didn't really. Apparently,
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: if you go back, when he's looking at files on
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: Bucky at some point, you see the car or something
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: on Easter Egg kind of thing in the background where
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: that's the real weight of Captain America telling Tony and
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: knew because it wasn't he knew like. two days ago,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: they could.
- 1:00:26Speaker 3: Have planted that a little better so that we got
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: the full effect.
- 1:00:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: They could have, they could have hinted at that in
- 1:00:35Speaker 3: winter soldier, especially since it's the same guy.
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: Cause that's apparently I haven't went back and checked it,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: but I've heard that like, if you go back, that's
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: when he knew it.
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: It's somewhere in the file.
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: You see that picture or a video.
- 1:00:45Speaker 4: At the very least what they could have done would
- 1:00:47Speaker 4: have been to show that video in a stinger or
- 1:00:50Speaker 4: something or show part of that video or just the
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: car crashed into the tree. That's it. It's all you need.
- 1:00:55Speaker 4: You don't need anything else. Just boom. Right. And Cap
- 1:00:58Speaker 4: being like.
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: Because for someone like me who felt like Tony Stark
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: is the villain in this situation, being that I just
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: personally see Captain America's point of view, that was, again,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: what made the ending so powerful to me because that's
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: when I flipped. I was like... and it wasn't that
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: all of a sudden I thought Tony was more right
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: than Evans but that's when I was like oh you're
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: on the same field and now I'm at the point
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: where like I'm just I'm just washing my hands like
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: he killed your parents like you knew he killed your
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: parents okay I get you were protecting your friend but
- 1:01:26Speaker 1: that's fucked up you should have told him I mean,
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: how do you not tell your buddy who killed their parents?
- 1:01:33Speaker 1: Especially if it's that big of a fucking problem for them.
- 1:01:35Speaker 3: Especially when they weren't friends at that point. He was
- 1:01:38Speaker 3: just some sort of rogue agent. You could be like, oh,
- 1:01:40Speaker 3: by the way, guess what? I figured out who killed
- 1:01:43Speaker 3: your parents.
- 1:01:43Speaker 4: It was information that Stark really didn't need to know.
- 1:01:48Speaker 3: I kind of see Captain America's side.
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: It wasn't going to serve him any good having to
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: know that information, especially with Bucky still being out there.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: It's not going to help.
- 1:01:57Speaker 4: How is he going to explain the fact, okay, Bucky
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: still exists somewhere. By the way, Tony, Bucky killed your dad. K-bye.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: It's just going to fuel that fire of how angry
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: Tony Stark is in general.
- 1:02:07Speaker 6: Yeah, and this is so heavy. At the end of
- 1:02:10Speaker 6: the movie, it ends there. They're separated and they're cool,
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: but this tension is still going to exist in the
- 1:02:16Speaker 6: next film. And that has led me to wonder what
- 1:02:19Speaker 6: the endgame for this setup is. This is a setup
- 1:02:22Speaker 6: to something else. Ever since Infinity Gauntlet movies were announced,
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: I was thinking that, oh... Robert Downey Jr. is probably
- 1:02:29Speaker 6: going to get sick of playing Tony Stark. Maybe his
- 1:02:31Speaker 6: character will die during this epic two-parter. But now I'm
- 1:02:35Speaker 6: wondering if Winter Soldier might sacrifice himself and be the
- 1:02:39Speaker 6: one who croaks to save whomever and then bring closure
- 1:02:44Speaker 6: to the situation.
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Refresh yourself.
- 1:03:43Speaker 2: It's intermission time.
- 1:03:45Speaker 4: The concession stand is open and ready to serve you.

- 1:04:42Speaker 7: I'm afraid the District Attorney won't recognize Miss Richards when
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: he finds her a withered mummy.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: The commissioner's been alibying his failure to turn up anything
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: in these purple death murders.
- 1:04:53Speaker 3: You remember the commissioner and I have cleaned up crime
- 1:04:55Speaker 3: waves in this town before.
- 1:04:56Speaker 6: Yes.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: That mysterious Captain America did most of your work for you.
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: I feel certain that this new crime wave will bring
- 1:05:01Speaker 7: him out of hiding to help us. All those who
- 1:05:06Speaker 7: chose to oppose his shield must yield. If he's led
- 1:05:09Speaker 7: to a fight and a duel is due, then the
- 1:05:11Speaker 7: red and the white and the blue will come through
- 1:05:18Speaker 7: when Captain America throws his mighty shield. Tony Stark makes
- 1:05:23Speaker 7: you feel he's a cool exec with a heart of steel.
- 1:05:25Speaker 7: As Iron Man, all jets ablaze, he's fighting and slaying
- 1:05:30Speaker 7: with repulsor and amaze.
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: I'm Jenna Bush, and you're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 1:05:56Speaker 2: It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:05:58Speaker 5: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:06:03Speaker 3: And now, on with the show.
- 1:06:06Speaker 7: When it's not in your hands When everybody's fighting for.
- 1:06:10Speaker 5: The promised land I don't need a civil war It
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: feeds the rich while it buries the poor If I
- 1:06:23Speaker 5: were hungry, there would soon be dinner Human grocery store,
- 1:06:33Speaker 5: eat that.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Bread Well, you know, cause I find a lot of people,
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: it's not really on the same topic, what you said, but, um,
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: just in relation to winter soldier and like his sort
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: of fate and all this, um, you know, a lot
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: of people I've heard in other reviews are just like,
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: you know, why was it such a big deal? And
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: he's just a dude and to fight all this stuff
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: over him. I feel like people need a reminder that
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: this is kind of like Batman and Robin. Like Captain
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: America and Winter Soldier weren't just buddies. That was a team.
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: They were a duo. You know, imagine if something where
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: Robin got, you know, his mind controlled to kill Catwoman
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: or something. And, you know, they're trying to take him
- 1:07:23Speaker 1: in and Batman's trying to like, be like, no, wait,
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: he's under my control. Like you don't just go, ah,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: screw Robin, kill him. He killed that guy.
- 1:07:30Speaker 4: It's like, this is mind control.
- 1:07:32Speaker 3: I think that, that, the best thing they did along
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: those lines is that one scene of them like, remember
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: that time with the girl? Like all of a sudden
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: they went back to being kids. You're like, what was
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: her name? And they just like, there was a minute
- 1:07:44Speaker 3: where you're like.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: Oh man, the scene in the car when he kisses
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: Agent 13.
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: Oh Lord, that was fun.
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: No.
- 1:07:49Speaker 4: I didn't even see that coming.
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: You know, just the whole like nod and smile when
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: he kisses her. I was like, see, this is bros.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: These are bros. And I usually don't like bros, so
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: I don't mean to say it like that. But it's
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: just like, but these are guys being friends. These are
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: personal moments that you can relate to In real life.
- 1:08:04Speaker 1: You know, that's the thing. Comic books are our imagination
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: and fantasy, but there are things that resonate. There are
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: real life situations that resonate and affect you in real ways.
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: And to me, that was one of those moments like, see,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: they're guys. Like, even if they didn't have superpowers, they're
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: good dudes. They'd be hanging out, having fun. These are
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: people that, you know, these are real bonds of friendship.
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: And that's why I liked how Falcon and Winter Soldier
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: had that old best friend, new best friend kind of beef, like,
- 1:08:29Speaker 1: You know, just like, no, I'm not moving a seat
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: back for you. I'm his buddy now.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: He's my best friend. You shut up. They're like six
- 1:08:35Speaker 3: years old. He's just like, he moved in next door
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: to you, but I've been friends with him since we
- 1:08:39Speaker 3: went to school.
- 1:08:41Speaker 1: I can use his shield.
- 1:08:42Speaker 3: You're stupid.
- 1:08:43Speaker 4: We've been friends for 60 years.
- 1:08:45Speaker 3: Again, I think those little scenes sell the relationship.
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: That stair fight scene was so much the raid. Like
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: when he showed up when it was Captain America and
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Bucky fighting out of the building, that seen and to
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: stare just felt like the biggest homage to raid. I
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: was just like, and when he grabbed the rail and
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: uses like a rope in a way to kind of
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: use his weight to propel down. And it's just like,
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: my God, the choreography and the action that these guys do.
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: I went back and watched Winter Soldier in preparation for
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: this weekend. There's so many good fights in that guy.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: I only watched it like three times. I was like,
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: I need to watch this like three more. There's so
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: much fantastic choreography at these fights. Them running with the cars.
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: How dopey could that have looked? If they would have
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: did little extra fast legs, but they did that hobbit
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: trick where it's like they're running normal, but they're keeping
- 1:09:38Speaker 1: up with cars.
- 1:09:39Speaker 4: And it got close to looking dopey a couple times.
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: When he grabbed the motorcycle, that was a very video
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: game-y thing. When he grabbed it and spun it around,
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: And then was on it. I'm like.
- 1:09:49Speaker 6: The audience loved it.
- 1:09:52Speaker 4: That was fun.
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: Maybe they were not cheering or groaning.
- 1:09:55Speaker 3: He's got to use the arm. On that, again, while
- 1:09:58Speaker 3: we're running in the cars, that was the one I
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: was like, we almost needed a little extra.
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: Extra scene of backstory on Black Panther. Because why is
- 1:10:07Speaker 3: he keeping up with him?
- 1:10:10Speaker 4: That was my first thought. Because I get why Bucky
- 1:10:12Speaker 4: can run that fast. I get why Cap can run
- 1:10:15Speaker 4: that fast. Because they established that in the first movie.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: But how are you able to run that fast, Black Panther?
- 1:10:19Speaker 3: I understand the suit's badass, yes. But why is he,
- 1:10:23Speaker 3: when he's out of the suit, or even something like running,
- 1:10:26Speaker 3: why is he.
- 1:10:28Speaker 3: He can be trained in fighting, but does he have
- 1:10:30Speaker 3: extra super human powers?
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: In the comic, isn't it like a chi thing?
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: I thought he had something, yeah.
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: Everything I've read is him and other people.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought he had mystical old world stuff going on,
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: but they don't bring that.
- 1:10:42Speaker 4: Up at all. But it doesn't really have anything to
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: do with that kind of speed. It doesn't have the.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: Speed of a panther. It's not something like that. Like,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: it's a panther spirit so he can move quicker.
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: Agility, yes. You know, akin to essentially... Not like Foresight,
- 1:11:01Speaker 4: like what Spider-Man has.
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: Spidey-sense. Yeah.
- 1:11:05Speaker 4: More a lot closer to Iron Fist and just his
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: martial agility. His ability to just see movements that way.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: I loved how Black Panther always landed in these cat-like crouches. Oh, yeah.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: And how he never made a sound.
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: It was all fours. He had kind of like his
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: hands almost like he was gripping the ground.
- 1:11:23Speaker 7: He just.
- 1:11:24Speaker 4: He nailed the motions. He never made a sound as
- 1:11:25Speaker 4: he landed.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Oh, it was fantastic.
- 1:11:27Speaker 4: He sold it like that.
- 1:11:28Speaker 1: I absolutely loved how he looked in armor. Making, even
- 1:11:31Speaker 1: though they were small, I don't care, making the nails
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: retractable and all that was awesome. Leaving marks on the
- 1:11:36Speaker 1: shield was awesome.
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: That was cool. Because nothing messes up that shield.
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: And I like that he even talks shit about the shield.
- 1:11:41Speaker 1: He's like, you know, what do you want a vibranium shield?
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: Who gave you this vibranium? And he's like... you're not
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: cool with me either, Cab. Like, don't think everyone loves you.
- 1:11:50Speaker 3: I have to give credit to him, too. Like, Chadwick
- 1:11:52Speaker 3: Boseman is awesome.
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: He nailed that.
- 1:11:56Speaker 3: If they would have miscast that role, it could have seemed, again,
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: it could have seemed kind of silly, but like, He
- 1:12:01Speaker 3: owns every scene. When he's out of the suit, he's
- 1:12:04Speaker 3: so fucking cool.
- 1:12:05Speaker 6: Going into it, I'm wondering, will he be like Wolverine?
- 1:12:08Speaker 6: Will he be like Batman? And he's pretty unique. He
- 1:12:11Speaker 6: is Batman-ish sometimes and Wolverine-ish sometimes, but he is his
- 1:12:14Speaker 6: own character. He's not derivative.
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: I love also his real small stuff and this kind
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: of stuff that I think only comic book readers geek
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: out on. But his... His security guard, the Dora... I
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: forget what Dora's... Dora something.
- 1:12:29Speaker 4: Move or you'll get moved.
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: But her, yeah, if you're telling Will or Widow, like,
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: move or else, I was like, oh, that's my girl
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: right there.
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: And there's, like, three or four of them.
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: And they can handle their own. They can handle their own, like, legit. They're, like,
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: the real deal, even in the comic book universe.
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: I mean, it's essentially their job to train with him
- 1:12:47Speaker 4: and make sure he is the best of his ability
- 1:12:49Speaker 4: in fighting, too.
- 1:12:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so much presence, too, man. That girl was thick
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: and just... just had President just standing there like, oh man,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: I don't think you want to fight this girl.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Getting to her though, I was so glad to see
- 1:13:00Speaker 3: Black Widow back in action because I feel like she
- 1:13:03Speaker 3: was kind of sidelined in the last movie. And again,
- 1:13:04Speaker 3: she has.
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: So many great fights. She has this really fun wrestling style.
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: She gets people with so many head scissors and These
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: takedowns that are so fantastic.
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: Just flip people and just beat their ass. Again, that
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: was one going in. I came to like her character
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: almost more than.
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: The other guys.
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: She's so smart and dynamic the way that she.
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: handles herself in this group. And she's just as complicated
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: and just as deep of an origin. Not that I
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: want an origin, but enough background that you can write
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: five scripts on her too.
- 1:13:37Speaker 4: Give her her solo movie. I'd like to see a
- 1:13:40Speaker 4: solo movie of her. I'm kind of curious to see
- 1:13:43Speaker 4: what kind of direction they would take that. Because they
- 1:13:47Speaker 4: seem to like doing the sort of spy thrillers with
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: Captain America. You throw in Black Widow and you have
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: a great combo there for That style of spy thriller
- 1:13:59Speaker 4: plus soldier military movie. They go well together with those two.
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: They do, yeah. But to have something completely and totally
- 1:14:06Speaker 4: just spy versus spy with Black Widow, I don't know
- 1:14:11Speaker 4: her well enough to know.
- 1:14:13Speaker 4: Her villain like who i don't know what would be
- 1:14:16Speaker 4: her antagonist yeah what would be her antagonist even currently
- 1:14:21Speaker 4: right now in the mcu that would give her story
- 1:14:25Speaker 4: to give her her own solo movie to be doing
- 1:14:27Speaker 4: something else for a little while or even something with
- 1:14:30Speaker 4: hawkeye i.
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: Would take yeah i was gonna say i would it'd
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: be weird because they haven't done flashback stuff but i
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: would almost take like a movie showing how her and
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: hawkeye got so close Yeah. Like, whatever missions she joked
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: about in Avengers and stuff, where she was like, hey,
- 1:14:44Speaker 1: you remember, blah, blah, blah. And he's like, you have
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: a different recollection of that than I do. Like, let's
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: see the old stuff and how you guys became close.
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: I wouldn't have a problem with going back and saying that.
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: And how did he fall in love with and marry Velma? Yeah.
- 1:14:55Speaker 4: That's a good question.
- 1:14:56Speaker 3: Well, and I think it's cool. Like, with her, it's
- 1:14:58Speaker 3: the only thing we've seen that there seems like there's
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: a little something deeper going on there other than the
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: Hawkeye backstory.
- 1:15:04Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:15:05Speaker 3: Is her creation. So if we pulled some sort of
- 1:15:08Speaker 3: old Russian villain from the back and we're just like, oh,
- 1:15:11Speaker 3: this was part of her creation, this is somebody she
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: kind of hates. It'd be interesting to see her have
- 1:15:17Speaker 3: to deal with her weird creation and work in a
- 1:15:22Speaker 3: current plot too, but having to deal with somebody that
- 1:15:25Speaker 3: was there creating her.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: Maybe a search for Banner. Maybe she's like, I'm going
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: to look for Banner and Hawkeye can help me out.
- 1:15:31Speaker 1: Or maybe she gets in on her head and she
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: calls in Hawkeye.
- 1:15:33Speaker 4: I think they started to mention a little bit of
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: that backstory in Avengers 2. She was talking about the
- 1:15:40Speaker 4: spy dance school.
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: I think those scenes were great. That's what I'm saying.
- 1:15:44Speaker 3: I saw enough of that that I could see a whole.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: Movie that ties in that stuff.
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: Wasn't it the one that.
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: Whedon caught all the weird Twitter hate because they said
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: he was hating women and you made it where she
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: couldn't have babies. He got some weird backlash for including
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: all that stuff about her being infertile. That was the
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: one where he turned off his Twitter because all these
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: people were like, you hate women. Did you just say
- 1:16:04Speaker 1: Joss Whedon hates women?
- 1:16:05Speaker 4: Are you alive?
- 1:16:07Speaker 1: You have a heartbeat? He does nothing but push women.
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: This is the dude. that, you know, when someone said,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: why do you always, you know, have female lead roles?
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: And he's like, because people like you keep asking.
- 1:16:16Speaker 4: Well, I mean, people on the internet are stupid. The
- 1:16:20Speaker 4: one thing to their credit is, why even point out
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: the fact that she's infertile? Like, why does that really
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: matter in the whole grand scheme of things?
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: I think at the moment it was because, you know,
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: Banner's doing this whole, I have nothing to offer you.
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: And she's like, I can't be a mother to your children.
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: I don't have anything to offer you, but I still
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: want to be with you. I thought that was her saying,
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: we're both broke people.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's what it was.
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: We're both broke people.
- 1:16:43Speaker 3: And I want to be with you anyway. Why she's
- 1:16:45Speaker 3: so committed to me. I'm like, that's the reason she
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: is the soldier that she is because she can't be
- 1:16:50Speaker 3: a mother. She's not going to be one to sit
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: at home and be a wife. So they've taken everything
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: as a woman that I'm supposed to do away from me.
- 1:16:58Speaker 3: All I can do now is be a soldier. All
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: I'm made to do is kill other people. The best
- 1:17:03Speaker 3: I can do is switch to the better side. And like,
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: I feel like that's, that's that dynamic i really like
- 1:17:08Speaker 3: out of her that she is broken and she's like
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: i've done horrible things and i'm trying to rationalize it
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: and i'm trying to deal with it and i'm trying
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: to be better but i've got a horrible past and
- 1:17:19Speaker 3: like they messed me up in ways that even i'm
- 1:17:21Speaker 3: still dealing with all these years later that's.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: Why i love her and again we're just we're just
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: talking we're not even on the move anymore but couldn't
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: you almost tie her in with winter soldier now Like,
- 1:17:32Speaker 1: that could be the thing. Like, going back to Russia,
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: let's find these dudes that screwed us up.
- 1:17:37Speaker 3: There would be a cool story.
- 1:17:38Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, there you go. There's your Black Widow.
- 1:17:40Speaker 3: There's the buddy cop movie.
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: She goes in, like, I don't know, she's trying to
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: do stuff about Winter Soldier. Maybe he comes out of cryo.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: Maybe Hawkeye helps out. I mean, the point being, you
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: can write that story. To say that Black Widow does
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: not have Enough depth for her own movie is so ridiculous.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: Give a female superhero a movie, please.
- 1:18:02Speaker 4: I think they're kind of waiting on that for Ms. Marvel.
- 1:18:06Speaker 4: The problem is you're going to have half that movie
- 1:18:10Speaker 4: be an origin story.
- 1:18:11Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:18:12Speaker 4: And that's going to be a really large issue because
- 1:18:15Speaker 4: she has a lot of origin. Because there's a lot
- 1:18:18Speaker 4: about Carol Danvers that goes along... way before she ever
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: got a hold of Captain Marvel. And then she still
- 1:18:26Speaker 4: has to learn how to use her powers along with
- 1:18:29Speaker 4: carry a whole movie. It's not, I don't think it's
- 1:18:31Speaker 4: going to work out as well as people hope.
- 1:18:33Speaker 3: Sometimes that worries me because that they showed before this movie,
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: they showed the Dr. Strange trailer. I'm assuming everybody got that.
- 1:18:42Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:43Speaker 3: Does it, I'm not all that thrilled with what I
- 1:18:46Speaker 3: see on the screen. I'm hoping they're just stretching out
- 1:18:49Speaker 3: this training. because it looks like the whole trailer is
- 1:18:52Speaker 3: training it's just like show me how to be this
- 1:18:55Speaker 3: mystical character i'm like so is it we don't even
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: get like by the end we get one scene of
- 1:19:00Speaker 3: him being badass and doing stuff and like the rest
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: is just origin drug out for an hour and 20.
- 1:19:05Speaker 4: Minutes he's i mean he's gonna have to fight uh
- 1:19:08Speaker 4: mordomu yeah yeah mordomu.
- 1:19:10Speaker 3: At some point i mean i'm assuming we'll get a
- 1:19:12Speaker 3: big battle at the end but like it just looks
- 1:19:14Speaker 3: like a lot.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: Of backstory well it it has two again it kind
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: of has to be I feel like, because again, he's
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: an Omega. He's one of those people that's so strong,
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: so big, he could shut a lot of stuff down
- 1:19:26Speaker 1: if he really wanted to. This is a dude that
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: you need to know inside out. What I am happy
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: about with it, because again, if you would have went five,
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: ten years ago and told me, well, I guess it'd
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: have to be ten years ago, and say, we're doing
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: Doctor Strange now, I would have been like, wow, really?
- 1:19:40Speaker 3: It's going to look like shit.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: Not that I have anything against Doctor Strange, just I
- 1:19:43Speaker 1: know that even in the comic book realm.
- 1:19:46Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: He's not huge. He's great and he's got his points
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: and his stuff, but I would have never thought of
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: him as mainstream. But what I'm glad to see happening
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: is that if there's anything about his comics I did
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: like is the art. It was so bananas because the
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: whole magic dimension realm stuff. That's really crazy stuff to draw.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: So when the trailer, everyone's called it the Inception trailer,
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: when it looked like Inception, I was cool with that.
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: I was like, thank you, because that's what his world
- 1:20:13Speaker 1: looks like.
- 1:20:14Speaker 3: I don't mind that.
- 1:20:15Speaker 1: It's crazy and weird and Escher-ish, and it needs to
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: be that way if you're at least going to grab
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: what made the comic unique. It was so different in
- 1:20:23Speaker 1: that way.
- 1:20:24Speaker 4: I thought the same thing about Guardians of the Galaxy.
- 1:20:26Speaker 4: If you came to me 10 years ago and said,
- 1:20:28Speaker 4: they're going to make this kick-ass movie with a tree
- 1:20:31Speaker 4: and a raccoon.
- 1:20:33Speaker 3: Who?
- 1:20:33Speaker 4: Who are these guys?
- 1:20:35Speaker 3: I kind of had the same thought. Even when I
- 1:20:36Speaker 3: saw that first trailer, I was like, oh, this could
- 1:20:38Speaker 3: go horribly wrong.
- 1:20:39Speaker 4: And that's what I thought, too. I'm like, they're really
- 1:20:42Speaker 4: throwing anything at the wall at this point to see
- 1:20:44Speaker 4: if it sticks.
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: If it's got Marvel on it, they're getting funding all
- 1:20:47Speaker 3: of a sudden.
- 1:20:48Speaker 4: They did a good job. It stuck. It was a
- 1:20:50Speaker 4: very fun, enjoyable movie.
- 1:20:52Speaker 3: I credit all that to James Gunn, though. He's... If
- 1:20:55Speaker 3: he knows what he's doing and he's invested in it,
- 1:20:58Speaker 3: he is a great filmmaker.
- 1:20:59Speaker 4: Right from the opening scene where he's going through that
- 1:21:03Speaker 4: little rando wasteland planet and he puts in his tape
- 1:21:08Speaker 4: and they're playing, you know, Coming at Your Love and
- 1:21:11Speaker 4: the title card just pops up. I'm sold. I'm all
- 1:21:14Speaker 4: in for this movie.
- 1:21:15Speaker 3: They know that they're a fun version of the Marvel Universe.
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: Not that all of them aren't kind of. They do
- 1:21:21Speaker 3: have a pretty good sense of humor for stuff that
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: gets as heavy as it does. Guardians doesn't worry about that.
- 1:21:26Speaker 4: It was also very interesting to see some of the
- 1:21:28Speaker 4: Celestial Marvel stuff that we're just now kind of getting
- 1:21:34Speaker 4: a tap into. The one thing that kind of saddens
- 1:21:37Speaker 4: me that we're not going to get with it is Phoenix.
- 1:21:39Speaker 8: Yes.
- 1:21:39Speaker 2: No.
- 1:21:40Speaker 4: Because she's a big part of the whole celestial universe. But,
- 1:21:44Speaker 4: you know, X-Men. Right.
- 1:21:46Speaker 6: To give you hope for Doctor Strange, I did see
- 1:21:49Speaker 6: a behind-the-scenes clip or perhaps even a spy clip.
- 1:21:53Speaker 4: Have you seen it? No. Okay, it's Doc.
- 1:21:55Speaker 6: Strange in his full uniform, cloak, regalia. He's doing the hands.
- 1:22:01Speaker 6: I've seen that image. He's faking a leap in the air,
- 1:22:05Speaker 6: which I assume will be sweetened with CGI. He's backed
- 1:22:08Speaker 6: up with some other characters that I didn't recognize, but
- 1:22:11Speaker 6: it looks like he was large and in charge. If
- 1:22:14Speaker 6: only Doc Strange can magic up a better American accent,
- 1:22:16Speaker 6: I think we're looking good.
- 1:22:20Speaker 1: I like his villain, too. I cannot remember his name.
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: Barry Mordo. Well, I mean the actor.
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: The Serenity movie.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: The dude that's like after... Remember the Black Assassin dude
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: from Serenity? The Firefly movie?
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: Not enough to know their name.
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 1:22:43Speaker 4: He's got a difficult name.
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: I loved him in that. He has great presence. And
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: imagining him with Cumberbatch, I'm like, oh, they're going to
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: be so great. Just delivering witticism back and forth. Those
- 1:22:54Speaker 1: two are going to be great.
- 1:22:55Speaker 4: Like, I'm I'm on board, yes.
- 1:22:58Speaker 1: I feel like in these day and age, it's so
- 1:23:02Speaker 1: frustrating at times arguing.
- 1:23:03Speaker 4: People about comic movies.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: But I feel like you either watch these movies as
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: a movie or as a representation of your comic. I
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: feel like there's just two different paths of the road
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: right now. If you've read comics and stuff, then all
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: the little things are so huge. We see a little
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: detail from a comic, like, oh my god, that was that,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: that was that. And we geek out so hard on
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: this stuff. You know, an average Joe that hasn't read
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: a comic is just taking it as a movie. And
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: I feel like there's not one way to look at
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: these things. You almost, I kind of said this last
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: time with Batman versus Superman. It's like, you almost have
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: to like use the lens of I'm looking at this
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: as a movie or I'm looking at this as an
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: extension of my comic experience. And I think that's always
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: going to be a polar opposite thing. That's why you
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: always see clash of opinions in media. Because if you've
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: read the comics, these little things are big things. Big things.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: But if you're just a dude who hasn't read the comic,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: then that person doesn't mean anything to you. That shot
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: doesn't mean anything to you. That power doesn't mean anything
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: to you. And it's not going to have the same weight.
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: I feel like, and there it is if you really
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: want to, I'm not going to take a shot.
- 1:24:10Speaker 4: Whatever those letters are.
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: It's fantastic.
- 1:24:12Speaker 1: It's the only movie I've seen him in and he
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: was awesome. Just his facial expressions, his inflection, he was great.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: And I think him and Cumberbatch are going to be
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: beautiful together.
- 1:24:24Speaker 4: And what you were going on about sort of comics
- 1:24:27Speaker 4: being that experience, that's the one big worry I have
- 1:24:31Speaker 4: for the upcoming Spider-Man movie. I've I'm worried about the
- 1:24:37Speaker 4: direction that they may take with it. I'm not sold
- 1:24:42Speaker 4: on what they're doing with it yet. The title card
- 1:24:46Speaker 4: feels cartoony to me.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:24:52Speaker 4: Which doesn't seem to fit with what they're doing, at
- 1:24:57Speaker 4: least in Phase 3 on the MCU. What they were
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: having with Amazing Spider-Man was a little more on par
- 1:25:03Speaker 4: with what they're doing with can see some of that
- 1:25:05Speaker 4: with the mcu so i'm i i can't even fathom
- 1:25:09Speaker 4: what possible storyline that they would be going with in
- 1:25:13Speaker 4: um in this upcoming spider-man movie like clearly we're not
- 1:25:16Speaker 4: going to get the origin story okay cool that's fine
- 1:25:19Speaker 4: but what do we have left i mean we have
- 1:25:21Speaker 4: things like flash thompson um if they're going to bring
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: in any actually i've heard they're doing the vulture.
- 1:25:27Speaker 6: I've heard that as well but it comes to why
- 1:25:29Speaker 6: why vulture why.
- 1:25:31Speaker 4: Why the vulture exactly So if we're doing Vulture, hopefully
- 1:25:34Speaker 4: he's going to be the only villain. They need to
- 1:25:37Speaker 4: stop kind of shoehorning Spider-Man villains because God knows he
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: has a ton. He does. The one villain I'm really
- 1:25:44Speaker 4: curious to see at some point is Mysterio. Special effects masterpiece.
- 1:25:48Speaker 4: They can easily, at this point, work that out. But
- 1:25:52Speaker 4: why is it going to be Vulture? Is he going
- 1:25:54Speaker 4: to be trying to live his life vicariously? Again, through
- 1:25:58Speaker 4: Midtown High School, are we going to get Mary Jane
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: Watson or are we going to get Gwen Stacy? Are
- 1:26:05Speaker 4: we voting Mary Jane?
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: We don't need to see Gwen die again.
- 1:26:08Speaker 4: No. I don't need to see Gwen die. And that's
- 1:26:11Speaker 4: what bothers me, though, because there's kind of an order
- 1:26:13Speaker 4: of how he meets these women. If he's in high school,
- 1:26:16Speaker 4: it's got to be Gwen Stacy. Which sucks, because honestly,
- 1:26:25Speaker 4: I thought Emma Stone was a very good Gwen Stacy.
- 1:26:28Speaker 3: I mean, she's good in just about everything, so... I
- 1:26:31Speaker 3: thought their chemistry was good.
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: The first Andrew Garfield Spider-Man movie, I came out of
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: it saying, honestly, the only thing I didn't like about
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: it was Reptile's face. I thought it was absolutely.
- 1:26:45Speaker 4: so.
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: Bad that i was like how did that make it
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: through if someone could make a pirated bootleg where they
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: put another face on it i would be like that's
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: a solid spider-man movie because i felt like hey missing
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: the nose but for a different approach in a sense
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: that he felt like the geek today like i think
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: what we're getting now is more to the geek of
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: yesteryear like but andrew garfield felt like the geek of
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: today the socially awkward skater kid Smart with computers. I
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: felt like today's geek, this kid, who I was playing
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: as Peter Parker now, feels like yesteryear geek. Like, that's
- 1:27:15Speaker 1: the kid I got picked on because he's small, weak,
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: and smart. I dug the new Peter Parker with Andrew
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: Garfield in the first movie. I thought him and Emma
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: Stone had mad chemistry.
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: Right.
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: I came out of that going... That destroyed Tobey Maguire
- 1:27:29Speaker 1: and Kirsten Dunst. Those two felt.
- 1:27:31Speaker 4: Like they were really dating to me. I wanted to
- 1:27:32Speaker 4: see more of that. Legitimately, I was hyped about what
- 1:27:39Speaker 4: The Amazing Spider-Man 2 could be until I heard it
- 1:27:41Speaker 4: was going to be Electro. I've never been a fan
- 1:27:43Speaker 4: of Electro as a villain. He's a shitty villain.
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: I just didn't like Andrew Garfield. I loved him as Stone.
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: And to give Electro in this movie the same stupid Incredibles...
- 1:27:56Speaker 4: Iron Man 3, Batman Forever, Whiny, I Worked for the Man,
- 1:28:04Speaker 4: Now I Am the Man, Villainy Storyline. It didn't work.
- 1:28:10Speaker 3: There's a lot of things about that movie that didn't work.
- 1:28:13Speaker 3: It just fell over. I actually didn't get to this
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: during our Batman Superman discussion, and this is probably going
- 1:28:20Speaker 3: to piss off a lot of people.
- 1:28:22Speaker 6: I don't.
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: But it's not just comic books. I've said this forever
- 1:28:26Speaker 3: about anything that's being turned into a movie from a
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: different format. It's a different format. So I'm kind of
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: the point now of like, I don't know that we
- 1:28:36Speaker 3: owe everything to comic book fans because. if that's the
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: case read the comics like I'm putting the weight not
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: so much on the comic book end of it anymore
- 1:28:47Speaker 3: but the filmmakers I'm like you guys made the deal
- 1:28:50Speaker 3: like again it's even more annoying when like the people
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: who make the comics then complain that they're doing something
- 1:28:55Speaker 3: different I'm like you guys whoever owns it now sold
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: this off that's your own doing. Don't sell off your
- 1:29:01Speaker 3: comic if you don't want it to be made into
- 1:29:02Speaker 3: God knows what.
- 1:29:03Speaker 4: Because they will.
- 1:29:04Speaker 3: That's just what Hollywood does. But I'm just kind of like,
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: I put the weight on the filmmakers. I'm like, your
- 1:29:10Speaker 3: company bought into this. Now your job is to take
- 1:29:15Speaker 3: this source material and make the best movie that you can.
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: Because it's not going to be a comic.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: Even Marvel changes around their print source material. Because honestly,
- 1:29:23Speaker 4: up until two years ago, Scarlet Witch... for the last
- 1:29:29Speaker 4: 20 years, has been a twin brother of Quicksilver and
- 1:29:37Speaker 4: a child of Magneto. Yeah. Now, two years ago.
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: They can't do that now.
- 1:29:43Speaker 4: Well, no, not even that. They retconned her whole story
- 1:29:46Speaker 4: in print to where it is more online with how
- 1:29:51Speaker 4: they have it set up. in the MCU so that
- 1:29:54Speaker 4: they could, I guess, keep that licensing. They want new readers.
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: I mean, I heard a podcast that was just talking
- 1:29:58Speaker 1: about like the marketing and the stuff, not like, like
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: what we're doing, opinion stuff. And they're talking about how like,
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: you know, Disney, you know, apparently it's like, yeah, the
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: movies are killing it, but apparently comic book sales are
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: not there. And they're like, we need to attach this
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: to the comic guys. These are comic characters. There's no
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: reason to make a billion dollars off a movie and
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: we can't sell a $ 3 comic. And so I've heard
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: that that's why they keep retconning and retconning because they're like,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: maybe if it's more like the movies, it won't be
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: so impenetrable. They'll already know what's going on and they
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: can just pick it up.
- 1:30:28Speaker 4: But the thing is, they're doing it backwards.
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: You can't, man. Marvel and DC both have retconned the
- 1:30:33Speaker 1: entire universe like twice in the last decade. They keep
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: resetting it so much, trying to give people this chance
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: to get in. I don't know what the answer is,
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: but that's not it. Resetting things is not the answer.
- 1:30:45Speaker 3: Again, I always go back to it's business versus art,
- 1:30:48Speaker 3: and that's a business decision.
- 1:30:50Speaker 4: Also, people are lazy. It's a lot easier to spend
- 1:30:53Speaker 4: two hours, get their nice little story in, and they
- 1:30:57Speaker 4: have more knowledge on the overall story, especially if they've
- 1:31:00Speaker 4: been following it. We have, for the past 10 years,
- 1:31:03Speaker 4: they've been doing these Marvel movies, more than having to
- 1:31:06Speaker 4: wait a year on a full story arc on a
- 1:31:09Speaker 4: comic book And spend at that point $ 30 on the
- 1:31:13Speaker 4: comics that you would need and sit there and spend
- 1:31:16Speaker 4: the time to actually take the time to read all those,
- 1:31:19Speaker 4: which take the average person a couple hours to go
- 1:31:21Speaker 4: through all that. For the consumer, it's a lot more
- 1:31:27Speaker 4: economical to go to the movies, spend a couple hours.
- 1:31:31Speaker 4: Get it that way and then done.
- 1:31:33Speaker 3: That's also why I'm always like, because people are always like, well,
- 1:31:36Speaker 3: it wasn't like that in the comic and they want more.
- 1:31:38Speaker 3: And I'm like, but there's no way you're going to
- 1:31:40Speaker 3: be able to get what's going on in the comic
- 1:31:42Speaker 3: in a movie and trying to then cram stuff in there.
- 1:31:45Speaker 3: You like shortchange all these good things. I'm like, I
- 1:31:48Speaker 3: would much rather them. structure the movie to be a
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: good movie, tell a better story, whether it's the comic
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: or not, that works better as a movie, because then
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: in the end we get a good movie out of
- 1:31:59Speaker 3: it instead of, well, it's sort of true to the comic,
- 1:32:02Speaker 3: but it's a half-ass movie now and nothing works as
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: far as relationships and we wasted a bunch of good characters.
- 1:32:08Speaker 4: And see, at that rate, I mean, you have all
- 1:32:10Speaker 4: these teams of writers writing for just the comics alone.
- 1:32:15Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:32:17Speaker 4: And you have all these.
- 1:32:20Speaker 4: Original stories you know that are being told all the
- 1:32:23Speaker 4: time whether there are changes of other stories just popping
- 1:32:26Speaker 4: back up and here and there it's like okay well
- 1:32:28Speaker 4: we have all this why can't we just come up
- 1:32:30Speaker 4: with original stories for the movies at that rate and
- 1:32:32Speaker 4: literally make them different don't make them be dependent on
- 1:32:35Speaker 4: source material that's already been told at least once in
- 1:32:38Speaker 4: the books um so that people can be have that
- 1:32:42Speaker 4: opportunity to be angry and get fed up that you
- 1:32:44Speaker 4: know what they're seeing now isn't what they isn't what
- 1:32:46Speaker 4: they read.
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: That was kind of my favorite thing in Iron Man 3.
- 1:32:51Speaker 3: And I'm sure it pissed off a lot of comic
- 1:32:53Speaker 3: book fans.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: I cannot believe that they did that with Mandarin. I
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: am that guy where I was like, this is why
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: the Marvel movies, for the most part, haven't bothered me.
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: Because I feel like you're deconstructing, but not much. Civil
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: War was about revealing yourself, taking your mask off in
- 1:33:14Speaker 1: a comic and revealing yourself. In this, it was about
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: collateral damage. It was still a unique situation to put
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: Captain America and Iron Man against each other, warm sides.
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: You still got the same blow off. in a sense, right?
- 1:33:29Speaker 4: I feel like it still.
- 1:33:30Speaker 3: Had the same weight, too.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: It's just different. But I felt that that was too
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: much to take an icon villain of Iron Man and
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: make him a poser for a weird internet terrorist thing.
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: That's why that works so well. It was a great swerve.
- 1:33:46Speaker 4: That part of it.
- 1:33:46Speaker 1: That swerve described me in the movie. The moment he
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: came out of the bathroom, I was like, what?
- 1:33:51Speaker 3: That's why I'm like, this is a great movie.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Where did Mandarin just go?
- 1:33:56Speaker 4: Now, Trevor.
- 1:33:59Speaker 4: I think that direction for the mandarin as depicted by
- 1:34:02Speaker 4: trevor was.
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: It's a brilliant performance i.
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: Was good i it took me a while thinking back
- 1:34:11Speaker 4: on it to kind of get used to the idea
- 1:34:12Speaker 4: yeah but to have um guy pierce be the ultimate
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: naming himself as the mandarin and be the ultimate bad
- 1:34:21Speaker 4: guy We got back to that same incredible storyline again.
- 1:34:26Speaker 3: And he's not an ultimate villain.
- 1:34:28Speaker 4: He's really not. It really would have made more sense
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: had they done something like they did with, oh, I
- 1:34:34Speaker 4: don't know, the Dark Knight.
- 1:34:35Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:34:36Speaker 4: Not Dark Knight.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: Or the Dark Knight Rises.
- 1:34:39Speaker 4: Dark Knight Rises. Thank you. With how they had Talia
- 1:34:42Speaker 4: set up as the villain. Make that woman, that random
- 1:34:45Speaker 4: woman who he slept with and then left, make her
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: be the villain.
- 1:34:48Speaker 3: Because she is hiding stuff midway in there that we
- 1:34:51Speaker 3: don't know about.
- 1:34:52Speaker 4: That would have been far more interesting. How often do
- 1:34:55Speaker 4: we get to actually get a puppet master villainous in
- 1:34:59Speaker 4: any movie anywhere? Have her be the villain of all
- 1:35:04Speaker 4: this going on. Maybe she is part of the Ten Rings, essentially,
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: and was... the daughter or some relative of what the
- 1:35:17Speaker 4: Mandarin originally was. And maybe, I don't know, make some
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: story there, make some better story there instead of, Oh,
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: I was just this one scientist. You didn't pay attention
- 1:35:26Speaker 4: to me. Now I'm going to, now I'm going to
- 1:35:27Speaker 4: kick your ass because my science is cooler than you are.
- 1:35:29Speaker 3: He is a pretty lightweight villain by the end of
- 1:35:32Speaker 3: that movie, but just that jerk on the rug out
- 1:35:34Speaker 3: from under you move. I'm like, that's a gutsy move.
- 1:35:37Speaker 4: No, it was ballsy.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong.
- 1:35:39Speaker 4: I thought they were going to go somewhere better with it.
- 1:35:42Speaker 3: Yeah, it would have been cool if they would have
- 1:35:43Speaker 3: done more with it.
- 1:35:44Speaker 6: I can see what they were thinking, that you can
- 1:35:46Speaker 6: have your cake and eat it too. So we give
- 1:35:48Speaker 6: you a taste of the Mandarin, but then it's not
- 1:35:51Speaker 6: the Mandarin, so... And then they just shove the cake
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: in your face.
- 1:35:54Speaker 3: The trailer is the Mandarin. Wait till you get to
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: the movie.
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: You know, I can honestly say that's the one I've
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: seen the least. I saw Iron Man 3 once in theaters,
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: and I... I don't think it's bad.
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: It's just nothing grabs.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: Me to watch it again.
- 1:36:07Speaker 3: Shane Black writes some good stuff. So that dynamic with
- 1:36:10Speaker 3: him in general, with him and kind of everybody, but
- 1:36:12Speaker 3: it really kind of builds a lot of character with
- 1:36:14Speaker 3: Robert Downey Jr. in that movie. The wrap-up isn't that.
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: Big a deal.
- 1:36:17Speaker 4: I more like Shane Black's ability to just wrap a
- 1:36:20Speaker 4: movie around... uh a nice holiday special he he does
- 1:36:25Speaker 4: it with lethal weapon one and two he does it
- 1:36:27Speaker 4: with uh die hard and it's you know it's it's
- 1:36:30Speaker 4: iron man three has now become uh one of my
- 1:36:32Speaker 4: christmas movie lists.
- 1:36:33Speaker 3: Holiday classic oh lord so where do we need to
- 1:36:40Speaker 3: go with this what haven't we addressed that we had
- 1:36:43Speaker 3: issues with on this current avengers two and a half.
- 1:36:47Speaker 4: Let's see, we've covered the Black Panther, let's see, running... Ant-Man?
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: What do I think of Ant-Man?
- 1:36:56Speaker 4: That scene of him growing and being like, holy shit,
- 1:36:59Speaker 4: this works!
- 1:37:00Speaker 3: I'm of the opinion I like him.
- 1:37:07Speaker 4: But he's always that guy. He's always going to be
- 1:37:09Speaker 4: Paul Rudd.
- 1:37:10Speaker 3: He brings Paul Rudd to every.
- 1:37:12Speaker 4: Not Paul Rudd.
- 1:37:13Speaker 3: He is Paul Rudd.
- 1:37:15Speaker 4: But that's the thing.
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: He is Paul Rudd. In every role, he can either
- 1:37:19Speaker 3: play a complete nutter dick like he does with.
- 1:37:23Speaker 4: Isn't Paul Rudd the raccoon?
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: Oh, no, no, no. I forget who voices the raccoon. Rocket.
- 1:37:31Speaker 4: No, that's... I get those two mixed up because they
- 1:37:37Speaker 4: look the same. Bradley Cooper. They look the same in
- 1:37:40Speaker 4: my head.
- 1:37:44Speaker 3: I feel like he's fun. I like him in pretty
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: much everything. He's always kind of Paul Rudd in everything. Again,
- 1:37:51Speaker 3: that's been probably my least favorite Marvel movie other than
- 1:37:55Speaker 3: I don't get all that invested in the Thor movies
- 1:37:57Speaker 3: because it's it's all gods and magic.
- 1:38:00Speaker 4: Ant-man just has weird subject material and i think they
- 1:38:02Speaker 4: knew that going into it which is why it had
- 1:38:04Speaker 4: a lot of writing issues it uh it's a very
- 1:38:07Speaker 4: difficult movie to to grasp it probably the science of
- 1:38:11Speaker 4: it is probably as difficult to grasp as good as
- 1:38:13Speaker 4: is the magic going to be for dr strange but
- 1:38:16Speaker 4: i think the magic will be more acceptable because it's
- 1:38:20Speaker 4: more it's more mysterious.
- 1:38:22Speaker 3: Yeah well i feel like Well, I feel like Ant-Man also,
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: and I said this when I saw it, I was like,
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: you feel the movie get yanked away from the director
- 1:38:30Speaker 3: halfway through which it did i think it's like you
- 1:38:35Speaker 3: are watching scenes that work really good and then you're
- 1:38:37Speaker 3: like what what happened now like it's it takes a
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: turn and you're like oh this is the one he
- 1:38:42Speaker 3: didn't work on like Not that the other director's bad,
- 1:38:45Speaker 3: but it doesn't mesh, because there's stuff that's still writing
- 1:38:48Speaker 3: credit to our original director, and then suddenly he's gone.
- 1:38:52Speaker 6: They said that Edgar Wright's fingerprints are on him, but
- 1:38:55Speaker 6: some scenes.
- 1:38:56Speaker 4: You're not fit.
- 1:38:57Speaker 6: Some work like Edgar Wright and some work like Anchorman.
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: And then other ones don't. And you feel that shift.
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: So I feel like it suffers from the real world
- 1:39:06Speaker 3: scenario that really happened.
- 1:39:08Speaker 6: So did you find Ant-Man's appearance jarring?
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:39:11Speaker 4: Actually, I enjoyed it as well.
- 1:39:13Speaker 3: Here's the thing.
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: I'm too easy. There's a problem. I'm actually a really
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: opinionated guy. But when it comes to the comic movies,
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: I just gush. I'm just saying, dude, this thing, I've
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: made this kind of argument, this explanation, I guess, you know,
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: I'm I can't listen to a review right now that's
- 1:39:28Speaker 1: not like, it's my new number two movie. It's my
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: new number one Marvel movie. It's my new number three
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Marvel movie. And it's like, I'm just that guy that
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: sees it as chapters. I don't see these things as
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: individual things that need to be ranked against each other.
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: This is the Marvel universe. I want to see these dudes.
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: Even if it's for 30 seconds, cool. It's the Marvel universe.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: It's okay if Spider-Man walks by on the street because
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: it's the Marvel universe. I don't need everyone to have
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: a million minutes. I don't need everyone to be a
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: fundamental part, so I'm going to do that. If Ant-Man's
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: just in there for the fight, cool. It's the Marvel Universe.
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: Bring him.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Come in.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: That's kind of how he took it, too.
- 1:40:04Speaker 2: Oh, my God.
- 1:40:05Speaker 4: Other than him going big, which....
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: How did they not put that in a trailer not
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: that i wanted to be but i'm so glad they
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: didn't because when he went big yes i i literally
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: out loud that was the one moment where i was
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: loud i out loud when this is boss like i
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: yelled it and i heard people laugh by me because
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: like oh my god he went big and then but
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: before i guess before when he went little and he
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: was in stark and he's like hey it's your conscience
- 1:40:32Speaker 1: we don't talk.
- 1:40:32Speaker 3: Much that was funny like that got a big laugh
- 1:40:34Speaker 3: in the audience.
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: And I don't want that not there because he didn't
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: have a fundamental plot behind him. I don't want it
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: not there because his movie was more childish or jarring.
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: I'm happy that this stuff's here. I'm the comic dude
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: that's just like, thank you. I don't want it to
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: be too mainstream because I don't want it to be
- 1:40:51Speaker 1: played out, but I'm glad that it's getting... what I've
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: always felt like as that kid buying the comic, you know,
- 1:40:57Speaker 1: at the local gas station, like now it's getting the
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: respect that I knew it deserved.
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:41:02Speaker 3: Like, and that's what they could always do so well
- 1:41:05Speaker 3: in the comics was pull characters from wherever and make
- 1:41:08Speaker 3: it kind of work in the book.
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: And movies couldn't do that to put that down.
- 1:41:13Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: So, I mean, I don't hate the directors cause they
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: don't have my imagination. Just please respect the source material
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: and we're on the same page. But, You know, that's why,
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: you know, again, go back to the last one. You know,
- 1:41:24Speaker 1: Batman's killing people. I can't do that. You're disrespecting the
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: source material too much for me.
- 1:41:29Speaker 4: I think there's a line.
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: But in the Marvel Universe, I don't mind that, you know,
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: there's a lot. I heard the same argument that we
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: kind of made a little bit earlier where, you know,
- 1:41:36Speaker 1: people are like, well, you know, for Civil War, no
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: one died. There was no consequences. You know, Winter Soldier,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: I put it with no one died. If it was
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: such a big war, no one.
- 1:41:45Speaker 4: I don't.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: Need people to die they had a conflict i thought
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: they might have killed cheetle there i felt like i
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: feel like in a draft he died yeah and.
- 1:41:54Speaker 3: Then they went we might need him later like i
- 1:41:57Speaker 3: think they pulled him out but i'm like that would
- 1:41:59Speaker 3: have been a pretty damn heavy scene if.
- 1:42:01Speaker 9: You just we'll get warm machine 2.0 yeah and again
- 1:42:04Speaker 9: i think they but they've kind of pulled those punches
- 1:42:07Speaker 9: each time now and i wish they.
- 1:42:09Speaker 3: Wouldn't sometimes i mean even from that first movie The
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: reason that first movie should have worked is because Tony
- 1:42:17Speaker 3: Stark sacrificed himself. Right. And they pulled out because he's
- 1:42:20Speaker 3: Tony Stark. And we've got Robert Downey Jr. signed for
- 1:42:23Speaker 3: more movies. But I'm like, the way that story works. Now,
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: I think it's really impressive that then they took that
- 1:42:28Speaker 3: where they pulled out and made it a really cool
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: dramatic point. By the time we get to Iron Man
- 1:42:33Speaker 3: 3 and Tony Stark waking up from nightmares, I'm like,
- 1:42:36Speaker 3: they pulled it out and did pretty good with it.
- 1:42:38Speaker 3: But I'm like, that story needed him to die, really. Yeah.
- 1:42:42Speaker 4: I always found it kind of interesting that he generated
- 1:42:44Speaker 4: PTSD from that personal experience. Because the way I see
- 1:42:49Speaker 4: Tony Stark in my head is that he's mentally made
- 1:42:53Speaker 4: of a little bit stronger stuff than that to see
- 1:42:56Speaker 4: the heavens and just go crazy, essentially.
- 1:42:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:01Speaker 4: I never really bought into his whole post-traumatic stress.
- 1:43:06Speaker 3: Was it just that, or was it him almost dying?
- 1:43:08Speaker 3: Because again, being a little selfish, I could see it
- 1:43:12Speaker 3: more of like, oh shit, I almost died.
- 1:43:14Speaker 4: That sucks.
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: Yeah, by choice. And again, because here's the thing.
- 1:43:18Speaker 3: Or maybe him having issues with himself for making that
- 1:43:22Speaker 3: choice to sacrifice himself. Maybe he didn't think he was
- 1:43:25Speaker 3: that kind of guy.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: He has much more inner conflict and turmoil in the comics.
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: I kind of feel like it goes back to the
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: dude who just recently died that played Snape. He's a
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: great dude. It was a great Snape on film in
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: the Harry Potter movies. But you weren't the Snape in
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: the book. The dude was ugly. He was mean. And
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: it's the kind of thing where sometimes an actor kind
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: of picks a part up. Tony Stark is not likable
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: in a comic to this guy. To me. He's full
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: on ego. There's so many times where it's like, you
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: don't really care about these people. It's just you, you, you.
- 1:43:57Speaker 1: He comes off more endearing and more like he could
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: give a shit about you in the movies. I don't
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: get that quite as much in the comics. So maybe
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: for him, that was a snap. He was like, I
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: made a choice to help other people and almost fucking
- 1:44:10Speaker 1: killed myself. I'm doing that shit again. It's all about
- 1:44:13Speaker 1: me and my Stark Tower. Not doing that again. I'm
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: making robots to do this shit for me. There you go. Ultron.
- 1:44:19Speaker 1: He's like, I'm not dying for you people. Freaking myself out,
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: becoming a raging alcoholic.
- 1:44:24Speaker 4: Ultron.
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: So I'm billing Ultron to do it for me.
- 1:44:28Speaker 3: Again, I think that character and the whole series as
- 1:44:31Speaker 3: it goes on, he's written so complex. Way more than
- 1:44:34Speaker 3: I ever expected. I didn't even watch that first one
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: for quite a while because I'm just like, eh, whatever.
- 1:44:39Speaker 4: I almost walked out of Avengers 2 because of Ultron.
- 1:44:44Speaker 3: It's got its issues.
- 1:44:45Speaker 4: I was angry at Ultron because I remember that was
- 1:44:50Speaker 4: one of the ones that I read as a kid
- 1:44:52Speaker 4: and Ultron was scary Like he was cold, methodical. He
- 1:45:00Speaker 4: had his one liners from here to there because of his,
- 1:45:03Speaker 4: at least, you know, origination with Pim, but he was
- 1:45:08Speaker 4: still very chess game. He had you a hundred moves
- 1:45:12Speaker 4: ahead of time. Yeah. And the, I love Joss Whedon.
- 1:45:16Speaker 4: He's a great writer, great director, but the Joss Whedon
- 1:45:20Speaker 4: villain of the week, um, sort of, uh, rapper that
- 1:45:27Speaker 4: they had with Ultron wasn't fitting well.
- 1:45:31Speaker 3: I think that's the problem is that he's bigger than
- 1:45:33Speaker 3: a villain of the week he's a villain of the
- 1:45:35Speaker 3: season right and I said that when we had that
- 1:45:37Speaker 3: episode I'm like it needed to be a 12 part
- 1:45:40Speaker 3: Netflix series because it's a bigger story than.
- 1:45:43Speaker 4: That they could have carried Ultron into this.
- 1:45:45Speaker 3: Movie yeah it's a much bigger story than being crammed
- 1:45:48Speaker 3: into one.
- 1:45:48Speaker 4: Movie they could have carried Ultron into a couple movies
- 1:45:50Speaker 4: and then big reveal Ultron has been like pulling these
- 1:45:54Speaker 4: puppet strings back the whole time You know, just wrecking
- 1:45:57Speaker 4: everybody because that's what he does to try to save everyone.
- 1:46:00Speaker 3: Most of the time they have a better, bigger picture.
- 1:46:03Speaker 3: That's one of the few times I feel like somebody
- 1:46:05Speaker 3: forced the hand a little too much. And that story
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: gets wrapped up way faster than it needs to.
- 1:46:10Speaker 4: And they had great, great casting with Ultron, with James Spader. Like,
- 1:46:14Speaker 4: I couldn't... You know, after hearing him.
- 1:46:18Speaker 4: Try to be scary Ultron I was like this guy
- 1:46:20Speaker 4: is Ultron but they're writing him like shit it's like
- 1:46:22Speaker 4: writing how they wrote Two-Face and Batman Forever great person
- 1:46:28Speaker 4: to play Two-Face shitty writing for him.
- 1:46:31Speaker 6: There's a scene where Ultron is monologuing and he has
- 1:46:33Speaker 6: a pseudo cape and that's when I saw that he
- 1:46:35Speaker 6: was kind of off the shelf candy bar open the
- 1:46:38Speaker 6: wrapper and forget about it tomorrow kind of.
- 1:46:40Speaker 4: Villain yeah And it made me sad because that was,
- 1:46:44Speaker 4: I was, I was getting, we're getting Ultron. It's going
- 1:46:47Speaker 4: to be huge. It's going to be dark.
- 1:46:49Speaker 6: And I was surprised they had the balls to never
- 1:46:51Speaker 6: show Spader's face.
- 1:46:54Speaker 4: I didn't, I wasn't surprised.
- 1:46:56Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel like that he, I'm hoping he signed
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: on knowing I'm not going to be on screen.
- 1:47:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: But he was there. That was what I didn't realize.
- 1:47:05Speaker 3: I figured he sat in a booth and did it.
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: He was on set. It looked like balls on him
- 1:47:09Speaker 3: in front of a green screen doing the performance.
- 1:47:11Speaker 6: So many movies, they have to shoehorn the actor's face
- 1:47:14Speaker 6: and somehow like, oh, he makes a hologram to fool
- 1:47:17Speaker 6: them or he pops up on a TV screen like,
- 1:47:19Speaker 6: I'm human now or.
- 1:47:20Speaker 4: Something stupid like that. They didn't do that.
- 1:47:21Speaker 6: So thumbs up for that.
- 1:47:22Speaker 4: But yes, Ultron, they dropped the ball. I mean, with Ultron,
- 1:47:26Speaker 4: that would make sense that he wouldn't do that. I mean,
- 1:47:28Speaker 4: that's not his character.
- 1:47:29Speaker 6: He.
- 1:47:30Speaker 4: he saw himself so high above humanity that he would
- 1:47:33Speaker 4: not um he would not lower himself to take on
- 1:47:37Speaker 4: any kind of visage of humanity um in order to
- 1:47:41Speaker 4: to further any of his agenda because he he knew
- 1:47:45Speaker 4: he was superior to everyone that was that was what
- 1:47:48Speaker 4: he was created to be.
- 1:47:49Speaker 6: Yeah and uh I like to address these characters. They're superheroes,
- 1:47:55Speaker 6: but ultimately they're characters. In this movie, I was surprised
- 1:48:00Speaker 6: I was enjoying seeing the actors walk around without their
- 1:48:04Speaker 6: suits on, without their masks on. You'd see Captain America
- 1:48:07Speaker 6: has a blue cap on, and that's a little hint.
- 1:48:10Speaker 6: Tony Stark has a metallic red tie, that's another hint.
- 1:48:14Speaker 6: For the longest time, they're walking around with no suits on,
- 1:48:16Speaker 6: and I'm 100% behind it.
- 1:48:17Speaker 4: But eventually.
- 1:48:20Speaker 6: They did get to a few points where actors with
- 1:48:22Speaker 6: masks on took their masks off it was kind of
- 1:48:24Speaker 6: organic when a spider-man lost his mask in the battle
- 1:48:27Speaker 6: it was kind of half off and he's trying to
- 1:48:29Speaker 6: put it back on yeah that felt good um uh
- 1:48:34Speaker 6: black panther takes his mask off at the end and.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: Well when they get arrested He takes off when they–
- 1:48:40Speaker 1: after the running with the cars, he takes off his mask.
- 1:48:43Speaker 4: That was more of a political play right there because
- 1:48:46Speaker 4: there was no way that he was going to be
- 1:48:50Speaker 4: in any good favor still being masked after that whole thing.
- 1:48:53Speaker 4: It worked. It worked in the story.
- 1:48:56Speaker 6: It wasn't just time to take the mask off, which
- 1:48:58Speaker 6: sometimes happens in superhero films. It served the– to move
- 1:49:01Speaker 6: the story along. Spider-Man's out. Oh, by the way, I'm
- 1:49:05Speaker 6: the king of Wakanda.
- 1:49:06Speaker 4: That kind of thing.
- 1:49:07Speaker 6: Your Highness.
- 1:49:09Speaker 3: Did we address... You guys had some other issues. Did
- 1:49:12Speaker 3: we work them in on this movie?
- 1:49:15Speaker 6: Pretty much. I have one strange nitpick. This movie is
- 1:49:19Speaker 6: such a success, the only big problem I have with
- 1:49:23Speaker 6: it is.
- 1:49:23Speaker 4: I.
- 1:49:25Speaker 6: Can't see where they could make any sufficient cuts... Some
- 1:49:29Speaker 6: moments I felt needed a little more time to land
- 1:49:32Speaker 6: and needed to be longer. But two and a half
- 1:49:35Speaker 6: hours is too long.
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: At what point, because I mean, it kind of goes
- 1:49:39Speaker 1: back to the argument. We were kind of, not argument,
- 1:49:41Speaker 1: but when we were talking earlier about, you know, comics
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: and movies. At what point do they stop trying to
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: cram these in movies and just go Netflix style with everything?
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: Go look. You guys want this? I mean, if you
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: really want it, let us do it in 10 episodes.
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Because I want it. I don't think that's going to
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: hurt anybody. But give people the time to flesh this
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: stuff out if you want.
- 1:50:02Speaker 4: The time to flesh stuff out. That's what they've been
- 1:50:03Speaker 4: working with on Daredevil, especially. And now that they've got
- 1:50:07Speaker 4: a deal for Punisher as a show, which I don't
- 1:50:11Speaker 4: see that lasting too long. I mean, Punisher's... His... His
- 1:50:16Speaker 4: storyline is pretty finite. I mean, it was.
- 1:50:19Speaker 3: And they wrapped up most of it in Daredevil Season 2.
- 1:50:22Speaker 4: And from what I remember reading in the books, that
- 1:50:25Speaker 4: was the whole breadth of his storyline was figuring out
- 1:50:29Speaker 4: who the hell killed his family. That was what he did. Yeah.
- 1:50:32Speaker 4: And then once they kind of resolved that, you don't
- 1:50:34Speaker 4: really see a lot of Punisher now, except he just
- 1:50:36Speaker 4: kind of guest stars every now and then in somebody
- 1:50:38Speaker 4: else's book. But that's because there's no other real story
- 1:50:41Speaker 4: there to tell. He's kind of a one-trick pony on
- 1:50:43Speaker 4: his story.
- 1:50:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:50:45Speaker 4: And so I'm not really sure where they're going to
- 1:50:46Speaker 4: go with this story on Netflix. Now, to see more
- 1:50:48Speaker 4: of Jessica Jones... She's got a lot of room. Yeah,
- 1:50:52Speaker 4: she's got a lot of room.
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: That's one of my weaknesses. Like, you know, everyone hates Ultron.
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: I'm the guy that likes Ultron. On the flip, I'm
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: the guy that... I watched Jessica Jones once. I've watched Daredevil, like, five,
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: six times. Jessica Jones was the one where, like, with
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: every episode, I kept looking over to my girlfriend, like,
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: I guess I'll watch another. Like, for me... Well, make
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: two points in one here. I'm not going to slam
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: Jessica Jones, so I'll just say that I felt like
- 1:51:20Speaker 1: it had glaring plot holes that I couldn't let go.
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: And I'll bring it back, make it relevant with this.
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: I think this movie has a glaring plot hole that
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: absolutely tears the whole plot apart. In the first Avengers movie,
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: I think I might have mentioned this on the BVS one,
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: the first Avengers movie, The government shot a nuclear missile.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Do you remember what Tony was taking up into space?
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: A nuclear missile. No matter what your little kill count
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: on the screen is when you're shown the Hulk jumping
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: from building to building, you would have had to add
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: a lot more zeros if Tony wasn't there. Who were
- 1:51:59Speaker 1: you to tell these guys they need to be accountable
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: when they took your nuke And threw it into space.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: To me, that is a glaring plot hole that ruins
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: the whole argument for that paper to be signed. You
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: tried to nuke a city, and we stopped it. But
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: you want us to sign paperwork to be responsible for
- 1:52:22Speaker 1: the 200 people that died right there?
- 1:52:24Speaker 4: That's the whole politics about it, because the rest of
- 1:52:26Speaker 4: society doesn't know that that was the case. Everybody on
- 1:52:29Speaker 4: the street, they just see it.
- 1:52:31Speaker 1: But they should have addressed that, yeah. the feet to
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: the fire and be like wait a minute guys right
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: you tried to nuke the city yeah like who were
- 1:52:39Speaker 1: you talking to right now.
- 1:52:41Speaker 3: That would have made a little more sense in the
- 1:52:42Speaker 3: grand argument there that they do kind of gloss over
- 1:52:46Speaker 3: yeah but.
- 1:52:46Speaker 4: It's totally so quiet on that was whether we tried
- 1:52:49Speaker 4: to nuke the city or not you know you guys
- 1:52:52Speaker 4: are still dangerous and are on our and are still
- 1:52:54Speaker 4: here right now and causing current problems i mean i
- 1:52:58Speaker 4: can That argument would get fizzled out pretty quickly.
- 1:53:01Speaker 3: That is one of the things I've liked specifically that
- 1:53:03Speaker 3: they've been doing in this Marvel universe is that all
- 1:53:08Speaker 3: actions have consequences and everybody is kind of accountable as
- 1:53:11Speaker 3: they go, which we saw that Man of Steel, he's
- 1:53:14Speaker 3: just right and left taking out buildings. Nobody cares. Every
- 1:53:17Speaker 3: time they do one of these, it gets a little
- 1:53:20Speaker 3: worse and they realize it. So by the end, even
- 1:53:23Speaker 3: they're kind of questioning, well, are we supposed to be superhero?
- 1:53:26Speaker 3: Are we supposed to try to save people? If in
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: the process, we might also hurt other people. What I
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: feel like there should be a little struggle there. Like
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: it does give the dynamic a little more tension and, and,
- 1:53:38Speaker 3: makes it a little more confusing like you'd have to
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: be like scarlet witch going should i be helping people
- 1:53:43Speaker 3: because i just took out a lot of people in
- 1:53:45Speaker 3: that building and all i was trying to do is
- 1:53:47Speaker 3: save my friend is his life worth more than that
- 1:53:50Speaker 3: i i think that should be a question that they're
- 1:53:53Speaker 3: they're addressing and marvel each time kind of does that
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: and it's getting bigger and bigger to the point of
- 1:53:59Speaker 3: when we get to this movie where they're like you
- 1:54:00Speaker 3: guys might need to stop.
- 1:54:02Speaker 4: The whole end justifies the mean is becoming more and
- 1:54:04Speaker 4: more gray area.
- 1:54:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:54:06Speaker 3: When we're taking out more and more people each time.
- 1:54:10Speaker 3: But yeah, they've always been concerned about people from First Avengers.
- 1:54:15Speaker 3: They're clearing out buildings. They're helping people out of buses.
- 1:54:17Speaker 3: They're worried about humanity first and foremost. That's still their concern.
- 1:54:23Speaker 3: But collateral damage is what we come back to.
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: Again, I think we all know they knew the long-term goal.
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: I think it's apparent with the first Avengers movie that
- 1:54:30Speaker 1: ultimately they knew in Civil War this is what the
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: topic was going to be. We need to show this
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: collateral damage and all that stuff because this is going
- 1:54:36Speaker 1: to be down the road. It's going to be important.
- 1:54:41Speaker 1: Special effects were unreal. The only other thing I could
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: think of was just to mention stuff that you can't
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: even really do audibly. That one shot, I mean, yes, Ant-Man, awesome,
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: but I remember, again, out loud kind of going, like, wow. Like,
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: when Scarlet Witch did something with cars, where cars were just, like,
- 1:54:59Speaker 1: pouring out of something.
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: Threw them on top of the garage.
- 1:55:03Speaker 9: Gosh, that was so amazing looking.
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: I was like, how much money did it take to
- 1:55:09Speaker 1: do that? Like, it was just raining cars. Like, that
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: looks so good.
- 1:55:14Speaker 3: All of her stuff was pretty cool.
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: She was amazing.
- 1:55:16Speaker 3: I like her in general, but, like.
- 1:55:18Speaker 4: Watching her. She's always been one of my favorite characters.
- 1:55:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:55:21Speaker 4: Even in the books.
- 1:55:21Speaker 3: Watching her work. Because again, last time we barely got
- 1:55:24Speaker 3: to see her do anything. So this time, seeing her kind.
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: Of finding herself as a hero. Her rock star music
- 1:55:30Speaker 1: video scene coming out of the door. Oh, speaking of
- 1:55:33Speaker 1: no shots, Spider-Man's spidey senses. When he dodges the thing
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: from behind, awesome. Again, that's the kind of stuff this
- 1:55:41Speaker 1: geek geeks out about. When he didn't look and he
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: ducked and it was coming from behind, I'm like, that's
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: how you do spidey senses. That is how you do
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: spidey senses.
- 1:55:48Speaker 3: But that's how you do that stuff. I'm like, to me,
- 1:55:50Speaker 3: you don't go out of your way to like, I
- 1:55:53Speaker 3: didn't need, like, little lightning things around his head, but
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: just him just nonchalantly ducking that from behind.
- 1:55:59Speaker 1: I was like, awesome.
- 1:56:00Speaker 4: He's like, whoa.
- 1:56:01Speaker 3: That's the clever way to do that, is, like, you
- 1:56:03Speaker 3: make it so that the scene works for geeks that
- 1:56:05Speaker 3: have never read a comic in their life, and you're
- 1:56:07Speaker 3: just like, oh, that was cool. And then for the
- 1:56:09Speaker 3: people that have, go, oh, shit, they just did. You know,
- 1:56:11Speaker 3: we don't need to explain. He stopped, and I'm like, well...
- 1:56:14Speaker 3: Let me tell you guys. Let's start talking to the camera.
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: Thank you, Spidey senses. He didn't make an offhanded remark.
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: You're like, oh no, we know why you just dodged
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: that without looking.
- 1:56:21Speaker 3: Everybody that cares just went, oh shit. And everybody that
- 1:56:24Speaker 3: didn't went, that was pretty cool. It doesn't matter.
- 1:56:26Speaker 4: It works either way. The lines he had when he
- 1:56:29Speaker 4: was there were pretty funny as he was fighting. He
- 1:56:31Speaker 4: was like, this is so cool. I'm fighting these guys
- 1:56:33Speaker 4: and I'm just getting them against the walls.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: Are you guys okay?
- 1:56:36Speaker 4: You're cool?
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: All right, we're doing good. I like Stark's ho. There's
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: usually not as much talking during the fights, kid. He's
- 1:56:42Speaker 1: just kind of like, knock it down.
- 1:56:44Speaker 3: Once again, he always gets the best lines, but when
- 1:56:47Speaker 3: he said, hey, Manchurian candidate.
- 1:56:49Speaker 4: Oh, right?
- 1:56:51Speaker 3: That was so good. I was like, that's it. I'm out.
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: I really, again, going back to just shots, like, I
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: love that they incorporated the last Civil War issue cover where, like,
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: Iron Man is, like, inches from the shield and it's just,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: and they slowed it down. I was, like, just nerd-gasming. Like,
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: these are the shots. You know, again, like, You know,
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: Batman vs. Superman, where you're like, oh, man, they had
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: these great shots, and Zack Snyder gets that. You can't
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: make a movie just on that. I don't want to
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: act like that's what made this movie.
- 1:57:22Speaker 4: That's the problem with Zack Snyder. He makes pretty movies.
- 1:57:25Speaker 4: Pretty looking movies.
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: His choreography and stuff is great. Well-written movies. They look pretty, too,
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: but there are so many good shots.
- 1:57:32Speaker 4: He has a great cinematography direction. As far as you
- 1:57:36Speaker 4: can take him.
- 1:57:37Speaker 3: Always has, but... writing's not his strong suit he should
- 1:57:40Speaker 3: turn that over to somebody as we said is now
- 1:57:42Speaker 3: an executive producer of justice league like official so he
- 1:57:46Speaker 3: will be directing his own batman and now he's executive
- 1:57:49Speaker 3: producing justice they decided who's directing because he originally wanted
- 1:57:53Speaker 3: to direct that one too i thought from what i heard.
- 1:57:55Speaker 1: It's still zach but you know again it's gossip there's
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: not an official but you know what to do from
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: flash leaving the guy who's going to direct flash left
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: for um um, um, creative differences, which probably tells me
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: he's like, Hey, no, no.
- 1:58:10Speaker 8: The movie.
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: TV show is still whatever.
- 1:58:12Speaker 4: That's right, because they're doing a different Flash for the Flash.
- 1:58:16Speaker 3: Which makes no sense, by the way.
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: Because the Flash on TV is too light, even though
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: they cry three times every episode.
- 1:58:21Speaker 4: Because DC loves their multiverse, so it works out perfectly.
- 1:58:27Speaker 3: So is TV Silver Age then?
- 1:58:30Speaker 4: Okay.
- 1:58:31Speaker 3: Again, for a company that's already struggling trying to make
- 1:58:34Speaker 3: things work, you've got one that's working. No, let's not
- 1:58:37Speaker 3: tie it into this series that people complain about all
- 1:58:40Speaker 3: day long.
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: You know what I kind of wish? This is really tree-branching.
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: I wish DC would just say, F it and just
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: do Kingdom Come. Like, get a bunch of old dudes
- 1:58:49Speaker 1: to play these superheroes and be like, screw these young
- 1:58:52Speaker 1: kids and planning for like 10 years. Let's just do...
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: Like two or three Kingdom Come movies, get some dudes
- 1:58:57Speaker 1: in their 30s, 40s, and let's just nail down a
- 1:59:00Speaker 1: solid DC story that doesn't have to connect to anything.
- 1:59:04Speaker 6: A movie starring adults made by adults for adults?
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:59:09Speaker 4: No, that's not going to work.
- 1:59:10Speaker 1: I would love to see Kingdom Come on film. All right.
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: So my question is, are we ready to continue this story?
- 1:59:19Speaker 3: Ongoing series. David and I, we've been doing it for
- 1:59:22Speaker 3: a while, but looking at the map, we've got a
- 1:59:24Speaker 3: couple more in the next coming months if we're going
- 1:59:27Speaker 3: to continue our comics to movies series.
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: I'm very excited about Suicide Squad. I made a prediction
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: on the last podcast, the Batman vs. Superman one, but
- 1:59:34Speaker 1: I think it will do better than Batman vs. Superman,
- 1:59:37Speaker 1: and I'm sticking to that.
- 1:59:38Speaker 3: I think a lot of things are going to do
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: better than Batman vs.
- 1:59:40Speaker 2: Superman.
- 1:59:40Speaker 1: I think it will break 800 million. I think it
- 1:59:43Speaker 1: will surpass Batman vs. Superman.
- 1:59:45Speaker 4: I just have that feeling. I'm going to be a
- 1:59:46Speaker 4: one-year-old fanboy. I have a feeling.
- 1:59:47Speaker 6: I'm a fanboy about it.
- 1:59:48Speaker 4: I just.
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: I think the thing is that I think it's going
- 1:59:50Speaker 1: to be DC's Guardians of the Galaxy. I think people
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: are just going to go to this like, it's just,
- 1:59:55Speaker 1: you know, and they're going to have a lot, especially
- 1:59:57Speaker 1: since their quote is rewriting more jokes. There's controversy on
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: whether it's jokes or not. But I think that they
- 2:00:03Speaker 1: are going to, I feel like DC has been obviously
- 2:00:06Speaker 1: trying to bite off Marvel anyway, in the sense that
- 2:00:08Speaker 1: they want, like you before, they want that Marvel money.
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: I think maybe someone's going, maybe we should try to
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: make this our Guardians. Let's be a little lighter. It
- 2:00:16Speaker 1: doesn't have to connect as much. We can have more fun,
- 2:00:18Speaker 1: more freedom. I think there's a chance that I, me personally,
- 2:00:25Speaker 1: my first experience with a Suicide Squad comic, going into it,
- 2:00:29Speaker 1: I didn't expect to like it at all. And I
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: know that can kind of change things. If you don't
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: like something and it's better than you think, you kind
- 2:00:34Speaker 1: of go, wow, I really liked it when really you
- 2:00:35Speaker 1: just liked it. So with that out front, my first
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: Suicide Squad story, I was like, the B-grade villains? Really? Like, okay.
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: But it was so interesting to me to get that perspective.
- 2:00:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: Because when they were like, there was a scene where
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: they're moving through the city and they're like, hey, you know,
- 2:00:52Speaker 1: where we need to go is like down the street
- 2:00:54Speaker 1: this way, three blocks.
- 2:00:55Speaker 4: Why don't we go this way?
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: And they're like, what? Above ground? Are you crazy? The
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: bat will find us.
- 2:00:58Speaker 4: And I was.
- 2:00:59Speaker 1: Like, oh, that's interesting. They actually consider that stuff. And
- 2:01:03Speaker 1: they're in the sewers, you know, and they're complaining like, oh,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: the sewers.
- 2:01:05Speaker 4: Even Marvel did that.
- 2:01:06Speaker 1: Because they don't want to run into Batman.
- 2:01:08Speaker 4: Even Marvel did that with the Thunderbolts and as a book,
- 2:01:11Speaker 4: it was only kind of so-so.
- 2:01:15Speaker 1: Suicide Squad resonated with me. I really liked how when
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: Batman did show up in the comic, I mean, everyone
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: lost their shit. Like, fuck, it's the Bat. Get the
- 2:01:23Speaker 1: hell out of here. Everyone ran in a different direction.
- 2:01:26Speaker 3: Like, see you later?
- 2:01:27Speaker 1: I liked getting that perspective of them. They fucking fear him. Like,
- 2:01:32Speaker 1: he's working. He's scaring the criminals. That resonated with me
- 2:01:36Speaker 1: as a reader. I'm like, wow, this is really neat
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: to see these dudes try to outsmart Batman and and
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: kind of be terrible at it. You know, it was
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: just so, it was so fresh to me. I didn't
- 2:01:48Speaker 1: expect that. I did not expect to like, feel like
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: I knew Batman more from reading a story about be
- 2:01:53Speaker 1: great villains. And so in that regard, everything I hear
- 2:01:59Speaker 1: has been, if like has some cameos, if they do
- 2:02:01Speaker 1: that and they have someone see Batman on the ledge
- 2:02:04Speaker 1: and they freaking run, if Batman shows up at the
- 2:02:06Speaker 1: end of a hallway and they freaking run, felt like
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: that added so much weight to him that you don't
- 2:02:11Speaker 1: get from just him showing up and whooping everyone's ass
- 2:02:14Speaker 1: yeah and so again i think there's a different perspective
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: and from what the trailer looks like maybe a lot
- 2:02:21Speaker 1: more fun not that fun makes the movie good but
- 2:02:27Speaker 1: i don't see how anyone can argued it we can't
- 2:02:30Speaker 1: use some more fun in the DC world some more
- 2:02:33Speaker 1: guys because like I said because Martha's joke about Batman
- 2:02:37Speaker 1: you know you know it's the Kate thing you know
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: when he's like I know your son or whatever I
- 2:02:40Speaker 1: was like that joke to me felt like the greatest
- 2:02:44Speaker 1: joke ever told all year because it was surrounded by
- 2:02:47Speaker 1: two and a half hours of the darkest shit I've
- 2:02:49Speaker 1: seen all year I was like oh my god one
- 2:02:50Speaker 1: joke just happened who let that in because you're ruining
- 2:02:54Speaker 1: the mood it's not dark and spooky anymore and I
- 2:02:56Speaker 1: was just like it's not I'm not offended by the
- 2:03:00Speaker 1: little quips in the Marvel Universe. Read a comic. Even
- 2:03:04Speaker 1: Batman comics, they're subtle witticisms. They are not 100% serious.
- 2:03:09Speaker 1: Just because something is a dark story doesn't mean you
- 2:03:12Speaker 1: don't have a moment of being light. And I really
- 2:03:17Speaker 1: just have a gut feeling the Suicide Squad is going
- 2:03:19Speaker 1: to sneak up on people. And this is the other
- 2:03:22Speaker 1: really big reason. kind of grumpy about you guys because
- 2:03:25Speaker 1: back in the day you guys didn't want to talk
- 2:03:27Speaker 1: about Deadpool when that movie was announced and in my
- 2:03:29Speaker 1: geeky head listening to the podcast I'm like Deadpool is
- 2:03:32Speaker 1: so huge so huge like you go to any convention
- 2:03:36Speaker 1: and the two biggest cosplays are going to be Deadpool
- 2:03:40Speaker 1: and Harlequin I don't care what convention what part unless
- 2:03:43Speaker 1: it's an anime thing if it has anything to do
- 2:03:44Speaker 1: with comics you are going to see millions of Deadpools
- 2:03:47Speaker 1: and Harlequin Deadpool killed it as an R rated movie
- 2:03:52Speaker 1: I'm telling her now, do not underestimate Harlequin.
- 2:03:55Speaker 4: Harlequin is going.
- 2:03:56Speaker 1: To draw a lot of people to Suicide Squad. A
- 2:04:00Speaker 1: lot of girls are going to go to this. And boys.
- 2:04:03Speaker 1: I think Suicide Squad is also going to get repeat viewing,
- 2:04:06Speaker 1: which I don't think BVS got. I'm telling you, I
- 2:04:09Speaker 1: think this is going to surprise DC a lot. This
- 2:04:13Speaker 1: is really my prediction. That'll be the surprise.
- 2:04:16Speaker 3: I think that's the real selling point. I think that's
- 2:04:19Speaker 3: the only thing that's going to break through for semi-normal people.
- 2:04:22Speaker 3: Hardcore geeks know what Suicide Squad is. everybody else is like, oh,
- 2:04:26Speaker 3: that's that movie with that Harley Quinn girl that I
- 2:04:28Speaker 3: see all the conventions. That's really the only character that
- 2:04:31Speaker 3: they know that in the Joker. But other than that.
- 2:04:34Speaker 4: Well, it's not even that Harley Quinn girl they've seen
- 2:04:36Speaker 4: at all the conventions. Is that the Harley Quinn girl
- 2:04:39Speaker 4: they've seen at all the conventions?
- 2:04:40Speaker 3: And either way, that's that cute girl with the pigtails.
- 2:04:43Speaker 3: Good enough, I'm going.
- 2:04:44Speaker 6: But I was really surprised at the... what I perceived
- 2:04:47Speaker 6: as mainstream recognition and excitement for Deadpool. People that I
- 2:04:51Speaker 6: did not think would know who Deadpool was were like, oh, Deadpool,
- 2:04:54Speaker 6: I'm going to see that. And I agree. I think
- 2:04:56Speaker 6: that people know Harley Quinn and the Joker, of course,
- 2:04:59Speaker 6: and I think that they're interested. They're hooked. I feel
- 2:05:01Speaker 6: it's kind of cheating, them doing rewrites on the fly,
- 2:05:06Speaker 6: but don't blame them at all.
- 2:05:08Speaker 3: I heard that was oversold on the internet, which, God forbid,
- 2:05:12Speaker 3: the internet make up stories, but I heard they'd actually
- 2:05:14Speaker 3: done those reshoots already.
- 2:05:15Speaker 1: Because the rumor happened, And then they came out, someone
- 2:05:18Speaker 1: business-wise was like, it is not jokes. And then someone
- 2:05:22Speaker 1: else came back and was like, no, they lied, it
- 2:05:23Speaker 1: is jokes. And then someone else was like, I mean,
- 2:05:25Speaker 1: I've seen something back and forth within DC where it's like.
- 2:05:28Speaker 3: But I thought they said it was so far gone
- 2:05:30Speaker 3: that they'd already reshot what they were going to reshoot.
- 2:05:32Speaker 3: They were already editing it by the time people were like, no,
- 2:05:35Speaker 3: they're shooting some more jokes. And they're like, we're done shooting,
- 2:05:37Speaker 3: I hate to tell you.
- 2:05:38Speaker 1: Well, if anything, you know, this is the thing. Going
- 2:05:40Speaker 1: back to, we talked about this before, but going back
- 2:05:43Speaker 1: to Batman vs. Superman, we talked about how Again, because
- 2:05:47Speaker 1: it was years delayed. People forgot this kind of stuff.
- 2:05:50Speaker 1: They went back and reshot for Batman v Superman, and
- 2:05:53Speaker 1: we found out later it was the whole beginning. It
- 2:05:55Speaker 1: was directly tied to part one. They're like, okay, everyone's
- 2:05:58Speaker 1: pissed about the collateral damage. We're going to make it
- 2:06:00Speaker 1: part of the plot. We're going to show you collateral damage.
- 2:06:02Speaker 1: Reshot scenes to incorporate that. What if this isn't them
- 2:06:05Speaker 1: reacting now to Batman v Superman going, okay, look, we
- 2:06:08Speaker 1: need to tie whatever. We want more Batman in it
- 2:06:11Speaker 1: because Batman's what was overwhelmingly good. Let's shoot some more
- 2:06:14Speaker 1: Ben Affleck. I mean, who knows? But- It's not, they
- 2:06:18Speaker 1: definitely have not held back in the past to redo
- 2:06:21Speaker 1: something in the oven to, you know, be sort of like,
- 2:06:26Speaker 1: you know, to accommodate what's going on with their current situation.
- 2:06:28Speaker 3: Again, I feel like if it's in the right hands,
- 2:06:30Speaker 3: that move can be fine. I mean, there's many a
- 2:06:32Speaker 3: movie that I've heard about what they wanted to do
- 2:06:35Speaker 3: with it that sounds horrible. And then somebody came in,
- 2:06:39Speaker 3: some producer that we normally are like, oh, that guy's terrible.
- 2:06:41Speaker 3: We don't want the money guys getting involved. And they
- 2:06:43Speaker 3: went in and went, this is bullshit. Take this out.
- 2:06:45Speaker 3: And the movie's great. I mean, it's just, it's part
- 2:06:48Speaker 3: of the process. Sometimes, a lot of times, it goes
- 2:06:52Speaker 3: to the wrong hands and the wrong decisions get made.
- 2:06:55Speaker 3: But I'm like, sometimes there's a smart producer up there
- 2:06:57Speaker 3: that goes, no, this is bullshit. You need to fix
- 2:07:00Speaker 3: this problem. And it ends up being a much better
- 2:07:02Speaker 3: movie in the long run.
- 2:07:03Speaker 1: And hopefully Ben Affleck and that chair will help.
- 2:07:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:07:07Speaker 6: The Spider-Man scene where Robert Downey Jr. is saying, hey,
- 2:07:10Speaker 6: Aunt May's hot.
- 2:07:10Speaker 4: What's up with that?
- 2:07:11Speaker 6: You know, that's what we've been saying ever since the
- 2:07:13Speaker 6: casting news. And that did, that was a pressure valve
- 2:07:17Speaker 6: releasing our anger and confusion.
- 2:07:18Speaker 3: What we were all thinking.
- 2:07:19Speaker 6: It doesn't make it cool. You know, Aunt May is
- 2:07:21Speaker 6: a sweet old lady, but that was kind of like
- 2:07:24Speaker 6: a wink to us.
- 2:07:25Speaker 4: I mean, she didn't necessarily have to be a sweet
- 2:07:28Speaker 4: old lady, but not Marissa Tomei. Yeah. I really liked
- 2:07:32Speaker 4: Sally Field as Aunt May. like i wasn't.
- 2:07:34Speaker 1: Bad and she hated that though really she i heard
- 2:07:37Speaker 1: she did that out of um a dying wish i
- 2:07:40Speaker 1: heard that she had a friend that was like no
- 2:07:42Speaker 1: for real like i'd have to google it to get
- 2:07:43Speaker 1: the fact but i heard that like someone she knew
- 2:07:47Speaker 1: that has something to do with that movie it was
- 2:07:48Speaker 1: like their dying wish like seriously please be aunt may
- 2:07:51Speaker 1: in the movie and she was like i'll do it
- 2:07:53Speaker 1: for you I know that sounds weird, but seriously, there
- 2:07:56Speaker 1: was some weird personal pressure thing where someone was like,
- 2:08:00Speaker 1: please do this. And apparently she did not like doing that.
- 2:08:03Speaker 1: She's not a big fan of comic movies. She was
- 2:08:05Speaker 1: real good at it, too.
- 2:08:08Speaker 4: As far as the physical Aunt May roles they've had
- 2:08:13Speaker 4: so far, she's by far my favorite. I liked... I
- 2:08:17Speaker 4: feel like.
- 2:08:18Speaker 3: The Toby Aunt May wasn't that like she remembered like
- 2:08:23Speaker 3: the cartoon right.
- 2:08:24Speaker 4: I liked her too like she was she was good
- 2:08:25Speaker 4: yeah she fit for the look that Sam Raimi was
- 2:08:28Speaker 4: going yeah which which works out but for the the
- 2:08:32Speaker 4: current look the MCU is going for Sally Fiedel Sally
- 2:08:35Speaker 4: Fiedel was it she was perfect Barista Tomei is like,
- 2:08:39Speaker 4: since when is Aunt May the cool, hip, young aunt?
- 2:08:41Speaker 3: But here's my question. You notice in this same movie,
- 2:08:46Speaker 3: we've now busted up the long, ongoing Tony Stark relationship.
- 2:08:50Speaker 2: Right.
- 2:08:51Speaker 3: I was trying to decide, is it because we couldn't
- 2:08:53Speaker 3: get Gwyneth back for real world reasons, or are they
- 2:08:57Speaker 3: clearing the runway for a hot Aunt May?
- 2:08:59Speaker 1: They were a couple in the 90s, correct? Didn't Robert
- 2:09:02Speaker 1: Downey Jr. and Marissa Tremé legit date in the 90s?
- 2:09:04Speaker 4: They were in a movie together.
- 2:09:06Speaker 1: They were in a movie, but I thought they were
- 2:09:07Speaker 1: also an item, at least during the filming.
- 2:09:10Speaker 4: Here's an idea. So we're rumored to be getting the
- 2:09:13Speaker 4: Vulture in this new Spider-Man Homecoming film. What if that
- 2:09:19Speaker 4: has something to do with Aunt May? somehow being involved
- 2:09:25Speaker 4: with the hostage of the storyline at some point. And
- 2:09:28Speaker 4: the vulture just kind of saps out a little bit
- 2:09:30Speaker 4: of her youth.
- 2:09:33Speaker 1: That could be interesting. It makes her older.
- 2:09:35Speaker 4: They can work with that. That's an interesting idea that
- 2:09:40Speaker 4: I feel that they could explore and use to the
- 2:09:42Speaker 4: advantage of, well, we need an older-looking, at least, Aunt
- 2:09:47Speaker 4: May to kind of fit the part better.
- 2:09:49Speaker 1: Or do you go super dark and kill Aunt May
- 2:09:51Speaker 1: and have that be his Gwen.
- 2:09:53Speaker 3: Stacy's political killer and have.
- 2:09:55Speaker 1: It be his Gwen Stacy? That's his, oh my god,
- 2:09:58Speaker 1: I gotta do it right.
- 2:09:59Speaker 4: Not so early while he's in high school still. Yeah,
- 2:10:01Speaker 4: I don't want that.
- 2:10:02Speaker 1: Don't get me wrong, but it's just part of me
- 2:10:04Speaker 1: that wonders if someone out there is like, well, we'll
- 2:10:05Speaker 1: kill her and it'll be a twofer. We don't need
- 2:10:07Speaker 1: Gwen because we'll kill Aunt May. It's like, please don't
- 2:10:09Speaker 1: do that, but.
- 2:10:10Speaker 3: Now, yes, I think that version of the story is
- 2:10:13Speaker 3: more interesting. Is my money on Robert Downey Jr. wants
- 2:10:16Speaker 3: to hook up with the hot Aunt May? That's where
- 2:10:18Speaker 3: I'm thinking we're going.
- 2:10:19Speaker 4: And if this was Spider-Man, they could even have Gwen
- 2:10:22Speaker 4: Stacy and Mary Jane kind of intersect because there was
- 2:10:24Speaker 4: a little brief period of time, again, in the books.
- 2:10:28Speaker 4: I know it's not the books anymore, but there was
- 2:10:30Speaker 4: a brief period of time where their paths did kind
- 2:10:32Speaker 4: of cross here and there before they finally went out.
- 2:10:36Speaker 3: There's already a very, like, father figure thing going on
- 2:10:40Speaker 3: with the Tony Stark Spider-Man thing. So I'm like, it
- 2:10:43Speaker 3: would be really interesting if this somehow becomes a real
- 2:10:46Speaker 3: family all of a sudden. That's a weird scenario that
- 2:10:49Speaker 3: I'm throwing out there.
- 2:10:50Speaker 4: And that still kind of works out for Parker, at
- 2:10:52Speaker 4: least how they had it in the original Civil War storyline.
- 2:10:55Speaker 4: He looked up Tony Stark. He loved the fact that.
- 2:10:58Speaker 1: My favorite Spider-Man moment happened during the Civil War. So
- 2:11:01Speaker 1: I don't think it was in the Civil War issue.
- 2:11:03Speaker 1: I think it was his individual in between some. But
- 2:11:05Speaker 1: when he fought Tony Stark in the alleyway, And they
- 2:11:09Speaker 1: did this fantastic artsy thing where he's having an inner
- 2:11:13Speaker 1: monologue while they're fighting. So you see fight scenes, but
- 2:11:15Speaker 1: you're reading what's in his head. And he's prefacing it
- 2:11:18Speaker 1: because he's like, I've always wondered, how much web do
- 2:11:21Speaker 1: I have? If it really came down to it, how
- 2:11:24Speaker 1: much could I really shoot? And his eyes are closing
- 2:11:26Speaker 1: as Tony's getting closer and closer. And when you turn
- 2:11:28Speaker 1: the page... The entire alley is just white web. And
- 2:11:33Speaker 1: in the center, you see the blue glow of his
- 2:11:36Speaker 1: arc reactor, where he has completely made a block of
- 2:11:39Speaker 1: web and encapsulized Iron Man in the middle of it.
- 2:11:43Speaker 1: That was such a money shot for me. I was like,
- 2:11:45Speaker 1: he just filled the whole alley. Like, there is a
- 2:11:48Speaker 1: glow and a little silhouette in the middle where you
- 2:11:50Speaker 1: can see Iron Man is in the middle of, like,
- 2:11:52Speaker 1: just solid web. And I was just like, that was
- 2:11:55Speaker 1: so awesome.
- 2:11:56Speaker 4: Like.
- 2:11:57Speaker 1: That resonated so hard with me. So in a way,
- 2:11:59Speaker 1: I was like, I kind of wanted that Tony Spider-Man fight.
- 2:12:03Speaker 1: Him in the Iron Spider-Man suit fighting Iron Man was so...
- 2:12:07Speaker 1: To me, that was the greatest fight in the Civil
- 2:12:08Speaker 1: War comic.
- 2:12:09Speaker 4: And we may still actually get that. I mean, if
- 2:12:11Speaker 4: Tony Stark is kind of backing off on his role,
- 2:12:14Speaker 4: if Robert Downey Jr. is kind of backing off on
- 2:12:17Speaker 4: his role of Tony Stark for at least a lot
- 2:12:19Speaker 4: of the major movies, and he's just going to be
- 2:12:23Speaker 4: guest starring... Yeah.
- 2:12:25Speaker 1: So it gets confirmed to be in Homecoming.
- 2:12:26Speaker 4: So it gets thrown here and there. That works really
- 2:12:27Speaker 4: well to kind of set up that relationship between Peter
- 2:12:29Speaker 4: and Tony and have Tony ultimately, you know, betray Peter
- 2:12:34Speaker 4: in some form or fashion.
- 2:12:35Speaker 1: Do you think we'll get the Iron Suit? Do you
- 2:12:37Speaker 1: think they'll find a way to put Iron Spider-Man in
- 2:12:39Speaker 1: there for a moment? Maybe that'll be what he has
- 2:12:42Speaker 1: for Thanos? Maybe leaning into Thanos, Stark's like, hey, kid,
- 2:12:45Speaker 1: you need this?
- 2:12:46Speaker 7: Yeah, I.
- 2:12:47Speaker 4: I think they could work that in somehow.
- 2:12:49Speaker 1: I would love to see the gold limbs. I would
- 2:12:50Speaker 1: love to see the gold iron limbs on screen in motion.
- 2:12:54Speaker 4: It would be fun to see. And I think they would,
- 2:12:56Speaker 4: they would enjoy, you know, making that for, for the movie, whether,
- 2:13:00Speaker 4: you know, digital effects or actual application production. And it's, I,
- 2:13:06Speaker 4: I can't think of a plot line that would work
- 2:13:09Speaker 4: out for the reasons that he would have it, except
- 2:13:11Speaker 4: for Infinity War.
- 2:13:14Speaker 1: Like I said, I'm just saying maybe Endgame. He's like,
- 2:13:16Speaker 1: The ones he's not going to do it, kid. I
- 2:13:18Speaker 1: got this iron thing for you.
- 2:13:20Speaker 4: I'm also trying to like, that's a much larger fight,
- 2:13:24Speaker 4: even for Spider-Man. Even as just kind of a, hey,
- 2:13:29Speaker 4: you know, we need you for this big, huge fight
- 2:13:31Speaker 4: that everybody's going to be in. What about the energy shield?
- 2:13:35Speaker 1: Because I feel like when Cap threw down his shield,
- 2:13:37Speaker 1: I was like, he's going to come back with an
- 2:13:39Speaker 1: energy shield. He's going to go to Wakanda and they're
- 2:13:41Speaker 1: going to make him that energy shield. After doing the
- 2:13:44Speaker 1: Nomad thing, he had an energy shield. For a while.
- 2:13:46Speaker 1: I forget how he lost his shield at that point,
- 2:13:48Speaker 1: but it was like, it looked like light. It was
- 2:13:50Speaker 1: like a laser shield thing. I feel like him and Wakanda,
- 2:13:54Speaker 1: and he left his shield with Stark. Now you could also,
- 2:13:56Speaker 1: I don't want them to do Nomad. If they do, please,
- 2:13:59Speaker 1: please the God, change the outfit. I don't want the
- 2:14:01Speaker 1: big deep V top he was wearing. But if you're
- 2:14:04Speaker 1: going to do Nomad with Captain America now, have him
- 2:14:07Speaker 1: going rogue.
- 2:14:08Speaker 4: An energy shield, too.
- 2:14:09Speaker 1: It'd be fun to see that part of him, too.
- 2:14:11Speaker 1: He doesn't have the shield. Give him something. Or someone
- 2:14:13Speaker 1: will end up with Falcon having it. Like, someone else
- 2:14:15Speaker 1: needs to have that shield.
- 2:14:16Speaker 4: Yeah, they'll do that for a while. And they'll have
- 2:14:18Speaker 4: that until it comes to Infinity War. And he's going
- 2:14:22Speaker 4: to pick that shield back up again.
- 2:14:23Speaker 3: Well, I mean, I assume that's the moment of, like,
- 2:14:26Speaker 3: you're going to have Tony Stark giving him the shield back.
- 2:14:28Speaker 1: Yeah, that's that bro moment where he's giving the shield
- 2:14:30Speaker 1: back just before they go fight.
- 2:14:31Speaker 4: It's like, hey, you dropped this.
- 2:14:33Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:14:34Speaker 4: You know that scene's coming. It's going to be that line.
- 2:14:36Speaker 3: It's going to have to be.
- 2:14:37Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:14:38Speaker 3: You're going to have to. All right. I think we've
- 2:14:42Speaker 3: got our work cut out for us. We can reconvene
- 2:14:44Speaker 3: in a few weeks and talk X-Men. So I think
- 2:14:47Speaker 3: we'll wrap up this one. Otherwise, thank you guys for
- 2:14:51Speaker 3: joining me.
- 2:14:51Speaker 1: No problem.
- 2:14:52Speaker 4: Thank you for having me. Otherwise, that does it.
- 2:14:54Speaker 3: We will return next time. Same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 2:14:57Speaker 1: Excelsior. I am a lover of being in.
- 2:15:12Speaker 8: Charge, though it's my enemy. And it sounds unlike me to.
- 2:15:21Speaker 5: Not be the one with the opportunity.
- 2:15:28Speaker 7: It's time to bow out of this race. About time
- 2:15:34Speaker 7: for me to be in last place. I got myself
- 2:15:40Speaker 7: in a civil war.
- 2:15:43Speaker 1: It's time to fight for, fight for.
- 2:15:46Speaker 7: What's worth fighting for?
- 2:16:08Speaker 3: Joining the lives of.
- 2:16:11Speaker 7: Those who have raised and flown the white flag. And
- 2:16:17Speaker 7: I know there.
- 2:16:18Speaker 5: Is a victory in losing myself and gaining liberty.
- 2:16:28Speaker 7: It's time to bow out of this race. About time
- 2:16:33Speaker 7: for me to be at last place. It's time to
- 2:16:44Speaker 7: fight for, fight for what's worth fighting for.
- 2:16:47Speaker 1: It's time to fight.
- 2:16:48Speaker 7: For, fight for what's worth fighting for.
- 2:17:07Speaker 8: Surrender is such a hard pill to swallow Surrender is
- 2:17:19Speaker 8: such a hard pill to swallow Surrender is such a
- 2:17:31Speaker 8: bitter pill to swallow.
- 2:17:48Speaker 7: This is why. A bitter pill, it's a bitter pill,
- 2:17:47Speaker 7: it's a bitter pill to swallow.
- 2:17:52Speaker 4: It's time to bow out of this race.
- 2:17:56Speaker 5: About time for me to be in last place.
- 2:18:02Speaker 3: I got myself in a trance.
- 2:18:07Speaker 4: It's time to fight for.
- 2:18:09Speaker 7: Fight for. I'm out of this race. It's about time
- 2:18:14Speaker 7: for me to be in last place. I've got myself
- 2:18:20Speaker 7: in a civil war. It's time to fight for, fight for.
- 2:19:15Speaker 3: That's a perfect example of what I said earlier. If
- 2:19:17Speaker 3: you go back and read the tales of the wills
- 2:19:20Speaker 3: or all that, it is nonsense. It is sheer nonsense.
- 2:19:24Speaker 3: And he had budget constraints that made him throw out
- 2:19:27Speaker 3: a lot of that shit. And he still had people
- 2:19:29Speaker 3: telling him no at that point.
- 2:19:31Speaker 2: And.
- 2:19:32Speaker 3: Star Wars, A New Hope is an awesome movie because
- 2:19:35Speaker 3: of that. Because somebody went in and went, no, you're
- 2:19:37Speaker 3: not doing this. You're not doing this. You get to
- 2:19:39Speaker 3: the one through three. Nobody told him no anymore. Look
- 2:19:42Speaker 3: at the crazy shit that we get. But like that
- 2:19:44Speaker 3: one is a solid movie because he could not do
- 2:19:48Speaker 3: what he wanted to do in his crazy brain.
- 2:19:50Speaker 1: He wanted to Shiro Mifune as Darth Vader.
- 2:19:52Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying.
- 2:19:53Speaker 1: Like as much as I would have geeked out on
- 2:19:55Speaker 1: that now, not as a kid, but now I'd be like,
- 2:19:57Speaker 1: oh my God. Go back and read the like- I
- 2:20:01Speaker 1: think if you read through some of the shit that
- 2:20:03Speaker 1: he wrote in that very first overview, nine part storyline,
- 2:20:08Speaker 1: it is nonsense.
- 2:20:09Speaker 3: It is the most crazy, like, well, it's completely different.
- 2:20:12Speaker 3: Like relationships are completely different. Like at one point, uh,
- 2:20:16Speaker 3: in empire, they go to a planet and they're flying
- 2:20:18Speaker 3: on like flying flounders and shit. Like it's super pulpy
- 2:20:21Speaker 3: novel shit. And I'm like, that could be cool, but
- 2:20:25Speaker 3: it is not star Wars. And like, somebody came along
- 2:20:27Speaker 3: and went, there's no way we're paying for fucking flounders. Uh,
- 2:20:30Speaker 3: You fixed this shit. And it's a better movie because
- 2:20:33Speaker 3: of it. So, I mean, there's a reason for those.
- 2:20:36Speaker 3: Somewhere there's a producer that needs to step in sometimes
- 2:20:39Speaker 3: when you're crazy George Lucas.
- 2:20:40Speaker 2: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
- 2:20:43Speaker 2: edited by the Auditude Studios, with the opening music performed
- 2:20:46Speaker 2: by the Empires. For more on how to sponsor or
