  biological male and biological female as there already is a

  gender neutral option. The girls want their locker

  rooms and bathrooms back. They want their privacy back.

  This is why I'm here tonight. My 13 year old daughter's
• 0:27
  well-being and mental health and privacy is is at stake.

  This nightmare began on February 5th when my daughter was using
• 0:34
  the girls bathroom and was stunned that a biological male
• 0:36
  student was using it as well. She came home frightened and was
• 0:39
  extremely upset. I asked her to talk with her
• 0:42
  teachers and find out more information.
• 0:44
  She was told by the administration that a student
• 0:46
  can use the bathroom as well as a female locker room because
• 0:49
  they now identify as female. I was sent an e-mail to the
• 0:52
  teachers involved and received a call from Principal Wegley.

  He verbally reiterated that under Joanna Ford's direction
• 0:59
  and their legal counsel, that the student could use both the
• 1:01
  locker room and bathroom. I expressed that the school was
• 1:04
  in clear violation of federal policy.
• 1:08
  The Trump administration issued an executive order restricting
• 1:11
  biological males from participating in sports and
• 1:13
  accessing female locker rooms. That day I filed a civil rights
• 1:18
  complaint on behalf of my daughter with the Department of
• 1:21
  Justice. It has now been referred to the
• 1:23
  Department of Education. A federal complaint has been
• 1:26
  filed with the district to to protect the students.

  The situation went from bad to worse.

  A few days later, the male student was present in the girls
• 1:35
  locker room. Feeling violated, the girls made
• 1:37
  the choice to not change into their PE clothes with a with a
• 1:40
  biological male student presence.

  The next day Assistant Principal Kathy Vantris pull the girls
• 1:46
  into their office questioning them.
• 1:48
  The same day Assistant Superintendent Joanna Ford,
• 1:51
  Kathy Vantris, and multiple teachers all came into the girls
• 1:55
  locker room making them change into uniform.
• 1:58
  This went on all week with the addition of Ginger Lagermann.

  My daughter refused to take part in having her privacy being
• 2:04
  violated. How dare they.

  She ran out and called for me for help.

  Principal Wagley answered, was answered.

  She is not changing for the remainder of the year and she's

  girls who have been forced at the difficult age to do

  something they know and most adults know is wrong.

  locker room and bathrooms back. Allowing biological males to

  access girls locker room sets a dangerous precedent that arose

  the very foundation of female privacy and safety.

  By making this decision, the school board is not only
• 2:54
  disregarding the concerns of young female students and making
• 2:57
  their families, but also establishing a legal and policy
• 3:00
  framework that will make it increasingly difficult to
• 3:03
  protect the integrity of female only spaces in the future.

  I am the parent of a trans middle schooler.

  I'm also the director of operations for Trans Upfront.

  It's a nonprofit organization fighting for trans rights.

  We partner with over 30 major organizations including the
• 4:00
  ACLU, Lambda Legal, HRC, etcetera.

  We have a protest coming up for trans rights on March 30th, 1:00

  PM Federal Plaza. We have A and I would like to

  take a moment to talk about Illinois.

  We're all very lucky to live in a state that protects everyone
• 4:16
  here. Specific to today, Executive
• 4:19
  Order 2019-11, which my kid was standing next to Pritzker when
• 4:24
  he signed, yes, an executive order from the governor and in
• 4:28
  that order, it's called strengthening our commitment to
• 4:31
  affirming inclusive schools, which protects trans, non binary
• 4:36
  and gender non conforming students from the type of
• 4:38
  bullying that this parent represents.

  Also, under the Illinois Human Rights Act, Section 3BU-1, the
• 4:51
  use of restrooms, locker rooms, and changing rooms may not be
• 4:55
  restricted based on a student's physical anatomy or chromosomal
• 4:58
  sex. A student must be permitted to
• 5:01
  access restrooms or bathrooms, locker rooms and changing rooms
• 5:04
  that align with their gender related identity and without
• 5:07
  having to provide documentation or other proof of gender under
• 5:11
  this Act. And it is stated the discomfort
• 5:13
  or privacy concerns of other students, teachers or parents
• 5:16
  are not valid reasons to deny or limit the full and equal use of
• 5:20
  those facilities based on a student's gender related
• 5:22
  identity. And said any student, teacher or
• 5:25
  other individual seeking more privacy should be accommodated
• 5:28
  by providing that individual with a more private option upon
• 5:31
  their request. Sounds like that would be a
• 5:33
  great option in this case for your kids.
