- 0:05Speaker 3: Freshly made with Reburger.
- 0:09Speaker 4: Welcome to the Hodaki Big Show.
- 0:13Speaker 5: Jason Hoyt, Mike Minogue.
- 0:17Speaker 6: And Keezy.
- 0:18Speaker 5: Oh my god, is that Wokeboy?
- 0:23Speaker 6: That's right, it's the Hodaki Big Show, brought to you
- 0:25Speaker 6: by our good mates, making the Craveworthy Street Food fresh.
- 0:29Speaker 6: Over at Reburger.
- 0:31Speaker 5: Mmm, yummy.
- 0:33Speaker 6: And you've got Pugs and Mogi for one more show.
- 0:35Speaker 6: This is the last episode of Wokeboy and the Truth.
- 0:37Speaker 6: Jason Hoyt and Keezy are off on holiday until Monday. Mogi,
- 0:41Speaker 6: how the hell are you?
- 0:42Speaker 7: Oh, going so good, man. Look, it's my Friday today,
- 0:45Speaker 7: so I'm absolutely fizzing. You know, if I haven't been
- 0:48Speaker 7: dialing it in over the sort of last week or so,
- 0:51Speaker 7: I certainly will be today. So keep your ears tuned
- 0:55Speaker 7: in for that.
- 0:56Speaker 6: Awesome, man. I'll pick up the slack wherever I can.
- 0:59Speaker 8: Yeah, go on, man.
- 1:00Speaker 6: And I definitely won't be phoning it in either. That's
- 1:02Speaker 6: good stuff. You been up to much today or a
- 1:05Speaker 6: bit of work?
- 1:06Speaker 7: Great question, man.
- 1:08Speaker 3: You're welcome.
- 1:08Speaker 7: Look, it's another beautiful day. It warmed up. It was
- 1:10Speaker 7: pissing down. It was sort of a little bit all
- 1:12Speaker 7: over the show. I was telling you I was asleep
- 1:15Speaker 7: by 9 o'clock, which meant I was awake by 4.
- 1:19Speaker 7: And then I was just up and at them.
- 1:21Speaker 6: So good.
- 1:21Speaker 7: I was up and at him. And so I'm a
- 1:23Speaker 7: little bit worried because the Rugby League World Cup, the
- 1:26Speaker 7: opener between Australia and New Zealand, kicks off tonight at 10pm,
- 1:30Speaker 7: finish at midnight. I don't know if I'm going to
- 1:32Speaker 7: make it. I don't know if I'm going to make it.
- 1:34Speaker 6: I reckon you will. I reckon you will. Couple of
- 1:36Speaker 6: mugs in there, man.
- 1:37Speaker 7: Yeah, true. Thanks, mate.
- 1:39Speaker 6: All right, let's find out what's coming up on the
- 1:40Speaker 6: last Woke Boy and the Truth.
- 1:43Speaker 7: What's happening on The Big Show with Old Mogi? Well,
- 1:50Speaker 7: coming up on the show today, we've got Will from
- 1:53Speaker 7: the This Warrior's Live podcast to talk us through a
- 1:56Speaker 7: bit of a preview for that opener of the Rugby
- 1:59Speaker 7: League World Cup. He'll be with us after five, as
- 2:02Speaker 7: will the throbber.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Thursday throbber today.
- 2:05Speaker 7: Thursday throbber. And coming up next, we're going to be
- 2:09Speaker 7: discussing names for the Tui that lives outside my bedroom
- 2:12Speaker 7: that I hate. Wakes me up every single morning. This
- 2:16Speaker 7: morning I was up before it. So I went out
- 2:20Speaker 7: there and screamed. Screamed at the Tui.
- 2:22Speaker 6: Perfect. And then he kicked off as well.
- 2:24Speaker 7: Got the bastard up. So, yeah, we'll be coming up
- 2:27Speaker 7: with a name. We'll make that a big poll, I think,
- 2:31Speaker 7: and then that will also be a binding referendum.
- 2:34Speaker 9: That's good stuff.
- 2:35Speaker 6: And, of course, your chance to win $ 250 with Gigalittle.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Cheers to our mates at Super Liquor. That's enough for
- 2:41Speaker 6: that roar of the encore. Send your Tui name ideas
- 2:44Speaker 6: in to 34832. Every text in the draw for a
- 2:46Speaker 6: $ 50 donation.
- 2:48Speaker 9: Reburger voucher.
- 2:49Speaker 6: Here's some fillies for your Thursday.
- 2:51Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 2:55Speaker 7: WBATT.
- 2:58Speaker 10: On Radio Hauraki.
- 3:00Speaker 6: That's right, you've got Pugs and Mogi and it's the
- 3:01Speaker 6: last day that I can play those stings. So we're
- 3:03Speaker 6: going to absolutely rinse them. This is Tui Chat with
- 3:06Speaker 6: old Mogi. There's been one that's been waking you up
- 3:09Speaker 6: for a long while now. We tried, we had attempts
- 3:12Speaker 6: to potentially find him a mate. Get them out of there?
- 3:15Speaker 7: Didn't work? We had the tui turn up about a
- 3:18Speaker 7: year ago, around about the same time. And in fact,
- 3:22Speaker 7: God knows how many years it's been there because I
- 3:24Speaker 7: moved into this place in August. And so the tui
- 3:27Speaker 7: turned up around about the same time. Now, at that time,
- 3:30Speaker 7: there's a really huge palm tree on the neighbour's back lawn. Right.
- 3:34Speaker 7: And it resided there. Jeez, she's a loud bastard. And
- 3:39Speaker 7: every single morning, and unbelievably... You're talking about four o'clock
- 3:43Speaker 7: in the morning, like quarter to four. It's out the gate.
- 3:48Speaker 7: And anyway, we got an expert in last year, if
- 3:50Speaker 7: I remember correctly.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Oh my gosh, we did.
- 3:52Speaker 7: And had a yarn about it then. And he said, look,
- 3:55Speaker 7: it's just a territorial thing. And also trying to find
- 3:58Speaker 7: a mate. And we'll stop after the spring, summer period.
- 4:03Speaker 7: So it only goes for about six months of the year.
- 4:05Speaker 3: It's good shit.
- 4:07Speaker 7: Anyway, it did stop, and then it started up again.
- 4:10Speaker 7: He's come back, but this time he's come around to
- 4:12Speaker 7: the front veranda, which is right where my bedroom is,
- 4:14Speaker 7: so it's even louder than usual. Cool. Same sort of thing,
- 4:17Speaker 7: and it's a really piercing song. I'll be trying to
- 4:21Speaker 7: work out ways that we can get it to bugger off,
- 4:24Speaker 7: trying to find it a mate, disco ball up there,
- 4:26Speaker 7: a little jacuzzi, trying to make it seem like he's
- 4:29Speaker 7: a really good potential mate for the female birds, but
- 4:32Speaker 7: nothing seems to be working. Must be hideous.
- 4:35Speaker 6: And if he's going to be sticking around, you figure
- 4:37Speaker 6: you might as well get a name for him.
- 4:38Speaker 7: He needs a name. And so we've had a few
- 4:42Speaker 7: options come in. I've had them message to me over Instagram.
- 4:45Speaker 7: They've been coming through on the text 3483. And we
- 4:48Speaker 7: think we've probably narrowed it down to a short list
- 4:50Speaker 7: that will turn into a big poll. And that will
- 4:53Speaker 7: turn into a binding referendum we'll announce at the end
- 4:55Speaker 7: of the show today.
- 4:56Speaker 6: I think we need four... four finalists, because I think
- 4:59Speaker 6: that's the maximum amount of options you can put on
- 5:01Speaker 6: an Instagram poll. So we've asked for your text on 3483,
- 5:06Speaker 6: every one of these, every entry in the draw for
- 5:09Speaker 6: a $ 50 Rebear Gear voucher. There's been a couple for
- 5:12Speaker 6: Ruby Tooey.
- 5:14Speaker 7: Oh, yes.
- 5:14Speaker 6: Fantastic rugby player.
- 5:16Speaker 7: That's not bad.
- 5:17Speaker 6: It's really nice, but I think we probably need something
- 5:20Speaker 6: a little more traditionally masculine, don't we? Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 9: I can't read that one on 3483. Can you not?
- 5:27Speaker 6: Well, no.
- 5:29Speaker 7: I think it's because it's on the neck. I think
- 5:30Speaker 7: that last word's fine. Go on then. Old neck tits.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Absolute banger there. You can't read that next one that's
- 5:40Speaker 6: just come in.
- 5:41Speaker 7: Definitely can't read that one.
- 5:42Speaker 9: I had the idea of Taintuipeki.
- 5:46Speaker 6: Yes. Or Taintuipeka.
- 5:47Speaker 7: Yes.
- 5:48Speaker 6: Just because that's like a double whammy. You know what
- 5:50Speaker 6: I mean?
- 5:51Speaker 5: Yeah, that's right.
- 5:51Speaker 6: It seems to be a lot of athlete names that
- 5:53Speaker 6: come through.
- 5:54Speaker 7: They all are. There's Patrick Tuipilotu, which is just the
- 5:57Speaker 7: same name as the rugby player. Yeah. Then there's Roger Tuivasa-Peck.
- 6:04Speaker 6: I really like that. I think that's really good.
- 6:07Speaker 7: Which is quite silly. I think I'll exclude Patrick Tuipulotu
- 6:13Speaker 7: just because it's just his name.
- 6:16Speaker 6: There's no switch up.
- 6:17Speaker 7: Nothing's been added to it. But this one got sent
- 6:19Speaker 7: through to me. It's been sent through to me a
- 6:21Speaker 7: couple of times. And that is Tui Tui Moi Moi. Now,
- 6:28Speaker 7: there's a rugby league player called Fui Fui Moi Moi.
- 6:31Speaker 7: They've changed it. They added tui, tui, moi, moi, which
- 6:33Speaker 7: is great. And, of course, the Rio word for sleep
- 6:36Speaker 7: is moi. So tui, tui, moi, moi, for me, ticks
- 6:41Speaker 7: all the boxes.
- 6:41Speaker 6: Okay, so that's your final list. We'll read out some
- 6:47Speaker 6: more after this next tune. We'll narrow down those four
- 6:50Speaker 6: finalists to then put into a poll on the Hauraki
- 6:53Speaker 6: Big Show Insta. So now's your last chance to get
- 6:54Speaker 6: your ideas in.
- 6:55Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:57Speaker 6: And then after that, we'll do songs from our band
- 7:00Speaker 6: that Mogi likes.
- 7:03Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 7:09Speaker 6: Just before we get into Tui name ideas, somebody texted
- 7:12Speaker 6: and said, what's going to happen to the big show tomorrow?
- 7:15Speaker 6: Because obviously today's the last day of Wokeboy and the truth.
- 7:18Speaker 6: It'll just be me doing a little best of show.
- 7:21Speaker 6: Going back into the archives and picking out some absolute
- 7:23Speaker 6: doozies for you. I've been planning them today. Now, we're
- 7:26Speaker 6: on the lookout for names for Mogi's Tui that wakes
- 7:28Speaker 6: him up every day at 4 a.m. We tried to
- 7:31Speaker 6: find him a mate, which was causing a lot of
- 7:33Speaker 6: the calling.
- 7:33Speaker 9: That didn't work.
- 7:34Speaker 6: So now we've just got to accept that he's there
- 7:36Speaker 6: and give him a name.
- 7:37Speaker 7: Yep, that's right. So we've got Ruby Tui as an option.
- 7:41Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 7:42Speaker 7: We've got, what was the other ones there, Pugsan?
- 7:46Speaker 6: Somebody said David Tui. which I quite like.
- 7:49Speaker 9: It's kind of annoying, but I like it.
- 7:51Speaker 7: It is annoying.
- 7:52Speaker 9: Tuitis interruptus, which is very nice in Latin.
- 7:55Speaker 6: I like this one here. It kind of subverts a
- 7:59Speaker 6: usual trend on this show.
- 8:00Speaker 9: Cat shit, Chris.
- 8:02Speaker 7: Not bad.
- 8:02Speaker 6: You know what I mean? As opposed to your cat,
- 8:03Speaker 6: which is bird shit, Chris. Yes, yes, yes.
- 8:07Speaker 9: We're trying to narrow it down to four finalists.
- 8:08Speaker 6: So at the moment, we've got Tain Tuipeke. Your favourite one,
- 8:14Speaker 6: Tui Tui Moi Moi.
- 8:15Speaker 5: Yes.
- 8:16Speaker 6: What was the other one you really liked the sound of?
- 8:18Speaker 7: There was Roger Tui Vasa Peck.
- 8:22Speaker 9: Yeah, I think that's the third one.
- 8:24Speaker 7: Yeah, that's right.
- 8:25Speaker 9: So that's the three, so we need one more finalist.
- 8:27Speaker 7: That's right. We've got Tui Tera Mai Ngā Kiwi, which
- 8:33Speaker 7: is not bad. Tui Tera makes a lot of sense.
- 8:38Speaker 7: Mai Ngā Kiwi.
- 8:38Speaker 6: Yeah, Tui Tera. Wouldn't mind a Kiwi. Yeah, that's pretty good.
- 8:43Speaker 6: It's kind of a mouthful, though.
- 8:43Speaker 7: It is a mouthful, but I reckon that'll do me.
- 8:46Speaker 6: Okay, you want that for the fourth finalist?
- 8:47Speaker 7: I think so.
- 8:48Speaker 6: Okay, so there you go. You have your four finalists.
- 8:51Speaker 6: We are going to get a poll up on the
- 8:52Speaker 6: Hauraki Big Show Insta when I have the time while
- 8:56Speaker 6: we're playing a song from a band that Mogi... Oh, yeah?
- 9:00Speaker 7: Yeah, from a band that Mogi likes, absolutely.
- 9:03Speaker 8: Songs from bands that I like.
- 9:05Speaker 6: This is where each day this week we've been taking
- 9:08Speaker 6: turns playing a tune from a band that we'd like
- 9:10Speaker 6: to hear more of on Hauraki.
- 9:11Speaker 7: Exactly right. And today I've gone with a band that
- 9:15Speaker 7: I sort of discovered in 2003. It was a compilation
- 9:20Speaker 7: album that was stuck to the front of Rolling Stone magazine,
- 9:23Speaker 7: which I used to subscribe to. Then I'd get the
- 9:26Speaker 7: American ones imported. And this is the Black Keys. So
- 9:32Speaker 7: it's off their second album, Thick Freakness. And they used
- 9:34Speaker 7: to be... The Black Keys used to be just a two-piece.
- 9:38Speaker 7: So you had the singer and guitarist and you got
- 9:41Speaker 7: your drummer and that was it. And now there's sort
- 9:42Speaker 7: of a full-on, they record as like a five-piece, they
- 9:46Speaker 7: tour as a five-piece, even more actually. And I think
- 9:50Speaker 7: what happens with a lot of these bands is you
- 9:52Speaker 7: get a crossover hit. And once you get a crossover hit,
- 9:55Speaker 7: then they kind of get addicted to being that kind
- 9:57Speaker 7: of pop star or more pop rock.
- 9:59Speaker 6: Yes.
- 10:00Speaker 7: I really love the early Kings of Leon stuff.
- 10:02Speaker 6: Me too.
- 10:02Speaker 7: And then they had Sex on Fire came out. Then
- 10:05Speaker 7: they became a pop rock sort of band. Black Keys
- 10:08Speaker 7: did the same thing when they had Lonely Boy come out.
- 10:10Speaker 7: That was kind of the end of it. And it
- 10:12Speaker 7: happens time and time again. And so this is the
- 10:17Speaker 7: first song that I ever heard from them. Absolutely loved it.
- 10:21Speaker 7: Far more blues rock inspired. Nice. And it is Hard Row.
- 10:27Speaker 6: What was the album called?
- 10:29Speaker 7: Ah, was it Fit Freakness?
- 10:31Speaker 6: That was my nickname in high school. It's the Hauraki
- 10:33Speaker 6: Big Show.
- 10:34Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 10:38Speaker 6: That there is Hard Row from the Black Keys on
- 10:41Speaker 6: the Hauraki Big Show. And that is a song from
- 10:44Speaker 6: a band that Mogi likes. Mogi, great choice, man.
- 10:48Speaker 7: Absolute tune, that one. The first few albums that they
- 10:50Speaker 7: did were all absolute weapons. I think probably my favourite
- 10:53Speaker 7: is Rubber Factory. They probably had four or five albums
- 10:57Speaker 7: that were just Two guys in a room doing rock
- 11:00Speaker 7: and roll, blues sort of style, and then, yeah, because
- 11:04Speaker 7: she got a bit poppy.
- 11:05Speaker 6: That sounded like it was from a different time.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Oh, absolutely.
- 11:08Speaker 6: The way that that was produced, which is brilliant. It
- 11:10Speaker 6: sounded really loose, like the guitar strings, and it was
- 11:13Speaker 6: real washed out, warm and fuzzy. A couple of ticks
- 11:16Speaker 6: on 3483. Totes, great album, and I agree that they
- 11:19Speaker 6: then sold out after that for that pop rock sort
- 11:22Speaker 6: of sound.
- 11:23Speaker 9: And Kyle says something different.
- 11:24Speaker 6: I like it, which is nice, because that's the whole
- 11:26Speaker 6: point of this segment, because this is the last one
- 11:28Speaker 6: that we're going to do, to get a few tunes
- 11:31Speaker 6: on Hauraki that you don't usually hear, and they're sort
- 11:33Speaker 6: of more to our personal taste, but fit into Hauraki.
- 11:37Speaker 7: Oh, and actually another one here as well, Tencent Pistol
- 11:40Speaker 7: was also an absolute beast. That's another one of their
- 11:42Speaker 7: earlier albums. They've got like, before they got big with
- 11:47Speaker 7: Lonely Boy, they had six or seven albums. Six albums.
- 11:50Speaker 9: That's crazy because I had no idea.
- 11:52Speaker 7: Absolutely no idea. I have not listened back.
- 11:54Speaker 9: To their old stuff.
- 11:55Speaker 7: And it's also a similar thing sort of happened with
- 11:58Speaker 7: Red Hot Chili Peppers, with Californication onwards. A whole generation
- 12:02Speaker 7: discovered them from there. And then the other one was
- 12:05Speaker 7: The Offspring. They were like a pretty straight ahead California
- 12:09Speaker 7: punk band. And then they had Pretty Fly for a
- 12:13Speaker 7: White Guy came out. And that was their crossover hit, right? Well,
- 12:16Speaker 7: that's what I think of, yeah. And that was where
- 12:19Speaker 7: I checked out. They were done for. I'd never listen
- 12:22Speaker 7: to them again after that, but their early albums were brilliant.
- 12:24Speaker 6: When you listen to an album, so say, for example,
- 12:27Speaker 6: these old Black Keys albums, do you listen through it
- 12:30Speaker 6: once and then pick your favourites to then add to
- 12:33Speaker 6: your playlists or whatever, or do you always listen through
- 12:36Speaker 6: as an album.
- 12:36Speaker 7: In one go? Always listen through. Yeah, I'm trying to
- 12:38Speaker 7: do more of that. Because we come from an era
- 12:40Speaker 7: of albums. Yes. And back in the old days, right,
- 12:42Speaker 7: so the 30s and 40s and maybe even 20s, It
- 12:47Speaker 7: used to be singles based as well. So the charts
- 12:49Speaker 7: were done on the sales. They still had charts back there,
- 12:53Speaker 7: number ones to 10. It was done on the sale
- 12:57Speaker 7: of music charts. So people would buy the music charts
- 13:00Speaker 7: so that they could play the piano or the instruments
- 13:02Speaker 7: at home. So it wasn't buying albums because the albums
- 13:05Speaker 7: didn't exist. And then singles came in and it wasn't
- 13:09Speaker 7: until like the 50s, 60s that full albums came out.
- 13:13Speaker 7: And then that became the normal thing to listen to.
- 13:15Speaker 7: And now we've sort of cycled back again where it's
- 13:19Speaker 7: more singles based.
- 13:19Speaker 6: Well, yeah, it is really easy. Like when an artist
- 13:23Speaker 6: brings out a new album, I'll listen through the whole thing.
- 13:25Speaker 6: And then it's really the easy thing to do, I think,
- 13:28Speaker 6: with accessibility to music streaming now is to pick your
- 13:31Speaker 6: favorite ones, any that you like that don't immediately grab you.
- 13:34Speaker 6: But now I'm trying to go back. to the full
- 13:38Speaker 6: album cycle and I think collecting vinyls really helped that.
- 13:40Speaker 7: Yeah and that's the beauty of the full album is
- 13:43Speaker 7: like when we were used to buy it and you
- 13:44Speaker 7: had no you know you're a kid and you've got
- 13:47Speaker 7: you get 30 bucks and you buy an album because
- 13:49Speaker 7: you like one song on the radio and then you
- 13:51Speaker 7: hate the album so well you've spent 30 bucks now
- 13:53Speaker 7: you own it so you'd have to listen to it
- 13:55Speaker 7: 10 or 20 times and then after 10 20 times
- 13:59Speaker 7: it grows on you and you love it so you
- 14:01Speaker 7: discover bands because you're prepared to put the time into
- 14:03Speaker 7: it nowadays if you don't like it immediately in the
- 14:06Speaker 7: bin yeah Yeah, there you go.
- 14:09Speaker 9: Bit of music chat for you on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 14:11Speaker 6: Now, keep in mind that Rora the Encore for Gigalittle
- 14:14Speaker 6: could go off at any time. That's your chance to
- 14:16Speaker 6: win yourself $ 250 to go towards any gig, festy or
- 14:20Speaker 6: concert of your choice. So keep your ears on and
- 14:22Speaker 6: keep 0800 Hauraki on speed dial.
- 14:27Speaker 9: Cheers to gigs. Cheers to super liquor.
- 14:29Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy.
- 14:32Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki. You guys
- 14:35Speaker 1: ready to win?
- 14:38Speaker 2: Gig a little on radio hodaki let's see who wants
- 14:41Speaker 2: to hear the roar of the encore cheers to super.
- 14:44Speaker 6: Liquor that's right uh it's your chance to win yourself
- 14:47Speaker 6: 250 bucks cash your share of 10 grand that we're
- 14:50Speaker 6: giving them away across the month thanks to our mates
- 14:53Speaker 6: uh over at super liquor there i'm looking to go
- 14:54Speaker 6: into a little gig this weekend mogi yes uh there's
- 14:57Speaker 6: something uh here in central tamaki there's a gig at
- 15:01Speaker 6: commercial bay which is like a bunch of djs taking
- 15:03Speaker 6: over a a bunch of different levels of commercial baby. Oh, really?
- 15:06Speaker 9: So I'm looking to go into that.
- 15:08Speaker 6: My partner just got a last-minute ticket to Olivia Dean,
- 15:10Speaker 6: which is the first one in that Western Springs Bowl.
- 15:13Speaker 6: There's always gigs going around.
- 15:16Speaker 9: But let's go to the phone lines and see what
- 15:18Speaker 9: other gigs are out there.
- 15:20Speaker 6: G'day, Ellie.
- 15:21Speaker 9: How you going, you mad bastard?
- 15:23Speaker 11: Hey, I'm good.
- 15:24Speaker 8: How are you?
- 15:25Speaker 7: Are you good, though? Because you sound a little bit nervous.
- 15:27Speaker 7: That was really hesitant there, Ellie.
- 15:28Speaker 3: Yeah, a little bit sus.
- 15:30Speaker 7: You sound like you're a little bit sus.
- 15:31Speaker 9: Sounds like you're through, mate.
- 15:33Speaker 6: How you going?
- 15:34Speaker 7: I'm good. What do you do for a crust, Ellie?
- 15:36Speaker 7: You're in Wellington there. Talk us through it.
- 15:38Speaker 6: I work in government, of course.
- 15:40Speaker 7: Good on you. You managed not to get fired. Well done.
- 15:44Speaker 7: Well done.
- 15:44Speaker 8: I've done pretty well.
- 15:45Speaker 7: Yeah, you're killing it.
- 15:46Speaker 8: Still got a job.
- 15:47Speaker 7: You're killing it. That's good stuff. If you managed to
- 15:50Speaker 7: get this $ 250, what would you spend it on?
- 15:54Speaker 8: I'm really hoping Kings of Leon announce a concert in Auckland.
- 15:57Speaker 7: A sideshow.
- 15:59Speaker 6: Yep.
- 15:59Speaker 8: Because I couldn't get Electric Avenue tickets.
- 16:02Speaker 7: It's an interesting one, isn't it? And I think now
- 16:04Speaker 7: that they've sold out, they might be able to. I
- 16:05Speaker 7: know that it used to be an issue. I remember
- 16:08Speaker 7: back in the day, you'd have big day outs, and
- 16:12Speaker 7: a lot of the bands would go to Australia, but
- 16:14Speaker 7: they wouldn't come to New Zealand, so... or the festival
- 16:17Speaker 7: didn't come to New Zealand, so then they'd do sideshows
- 16:20Speaker 7: over in Auckland, which meant you still got to see
- 16:22Speaker 7: some of the biggest ones, which was awesome.
- 16:24Speaker 8: Yes.
- 16:24Speaker 7: But I think they might be banned from doing that
- 16:27Speaker 7: until the event has sold out. So we might see
- 16:31Speaker 7: a Kings of Leon go on sale, which would be
- 16:33Speaker 7: shit odd. It's a long way to come to not
- 16:35Speaker 7: do it. I agree.
- 16:36Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:37Speaker 9: Now, Ellie, who would you take with you?
- 16:40Speaker 8: Probably just a friend from school. Yeah, she's keen.
- 16:43Speaker 6: That sounds lovely. Well, all righty, mate. You've won yourself $ 250.
- 16:46Speaker 6: Thanks to Super Liquor.
- 16:48Speaker 7: Awesome. Thank you.
- 16:49Speaker 6: Good on you, mate.
- 16:50Speaker 9: I'll chuck you on hold.
- 16:51Speaker 6: There, and Dilly and Studio B will take care of you.
- 16:54Speaker 6: That's all thanks to the good people over at Super Liquor.
- 16:57Speaker 7: I'm a little bit worried that Ellie's going to get
- 16:59Speaker 7: absolutely maggoted. She sounded like a mad dog.
- 17:02Speaker 6: Yeah, just kind of reserved in the moment, and then
- 17:05Speaker 6: just out of control. I know what you mean, man. Yeah, man.
- 17:10Speaker 6: Next up, TV chat. But first, here's a bit of Bowie.
- 17:14Speaker 7: Bowie.
- 17:14Speaker 6: On Woke Boy and the Truth on Radio Hauraki.
- 17:16Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 17:20Speaker 6: That is Jet on the Hauraki Big Show. You've got
- 17:23Speaker 6: Pugs and Mogi. Now, our big poll is up now
- 17:26Speaker 6: for what Mogi should name his tui. I was just
- 17:29Speaker 6: making sure I got the spelling right on that and
- 17:30Speaker 6: doing a little stupid edit of you looking like the tui.
- 17:34Speaker 6: So that's up now at Hauraki Big Show on Insta.
- 17:36Speaker 6: And in the meantime, let's have a bit of TV chat.
- 17:42Speaker 5: What's on the telly with Mike Minogue.
- 17:48Speaker 7: Yeah. I didn't take a big enough breath. I'm sorry, man.
- 17:58Speaker 7: Last night I didn't watch anything. I went home, domestic chores,
- 18:03Speaker 7: domestic chores, domestic chores, and read my book.
- 18:08Speaker 6: Nice. What are you reading?
- 18:09Speaker 7: I'm reading Ari Emanuel's autobiography. He's a Hollywood agent.
- 18:14Speaker 6: Oh, yes.
- 18:15Speaker 7: One of the best known. And he's just released a book.
- 18:17Speaker 7: I've warmed up to his writing style.
- 18:19Speaker 6: Good.
- 18:20Speaker 7: Which I'm pleased about. I need new glasses already, man.
- 18:23Speaker 7: The font is unbelievable. He's taken the piss, this guy.
- 18:27Speaker 7: Absolutely taken. It's like it's a secret code.
- 18:29Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 18:30Speaker 7: It's written so small it could... The Germans would be
- 18:35Speaker 7: trying to use that sort of thing. You need a
- 18:36Speaker 7: code breaker to read it. That's how small it is.
- 18:39Speaker 7: It's writing for ants. Okay. Yeah.
- 18:42Speaker 6: But it's going good, though?
- 18:43Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:43Speaker 7: If I've not been able to see it, it's good. Three.
- 18:46Speaker 7: Still too early. Yeah, still too early. Okay.
- 18:49Speaker 6: I went to the movies last night, and I went
- 18:52Speaker 6: and saw Resident Evil.
- 18:53Speaker 7: Oh, yes.
- 18:55Speaker 6: Now, Resident Evil is a... One of the most famous,
- 18:58Speaker 6: if not the most famous, yeah?
- 19:00Speaker 7: Yeah, no, no, you're absolutely right. It is one of
- 19:03Speaker 7: the most famous, but it's also been one of the
- 19:04Speaker 7: notoriously worst film franchises in history. It keeps on making money,
- 19:10Speaker 7: but it's garbage.
- 19:11Speaker 6: What I was going to say was it's one of
- 19:13Speaker 6: the most famous horror gaming franchises first.
- 19:16Speaker 5: Yes, yes, yes.
- 19:16Speaker 9: And then they made a bunch of movies with Mia Djokovic.
- 19:19Speaker 7: Yeah, Mia Djokovic and her husband, Paul... Weirdly, I think
- 19:25Speaker 7: it's like Paul Thomas Anderson or Paul T. Anderson, something
- 19:27Speaker 7: like that.
- 19:28Speaker 6: Yeah, and they've all been renowned for how shit-ass.
- 19:31Speaker 3: They are over the years.
- 19:32Speaker 6: So this is like a bit of a reboot. It's
- 19:35Speaker 6: directed by Zach Krieger, who did Barbarian, and he did Weapons.
- 19:38Speaker 6: He's sort of making a name for himself.
- 19:41Speaker 7: A huge director to get for this sort of franchise. 100%.
- 19:45Speaker 6: Weapons was really, really well-received.
- 19:48Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 19:50Speaker 6: And even, I think, Best Supporting Actress went to the
- 19:53Speaker 6: villain in that film.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Right, yes, yes, that's right.
- 19:56Speaker 6: And they are worth a watch. Barbarian was really good.
- 20:00Speaker 6: I kind of enjoyed Weapons not as much as I
- 20:02Speaker 6: thought it would, but still really good. This was.
- 20:06Speaker 9: Two words, dumb fun.
- 20:09Speaker 7: Yeah, good.
- 20:10Speaker 6: It was a really entertaining watch. You've got this guy,
- 20:13Speaker 6: Austin Abrams, who's sort of.
- 20:18Speaker 6: He was in Weapons, and now he's in another one
- 20:19Speaker 6: that's just come out called Whalefall, and he's in this. Oh, yeah.
- 20:22Speaker 6: And so his career's really taking off, and he looks
- 20:25Speaker 6: a bit like a poor man's Timothee Chalamet with a
- 20:28Speaker 6: little bit more to him, but... He was really, really likeable. Right.
- 20:34Speaker 6: He was really likeable. I was rooting for him because
- 20:36Speaker 6: he was realistic most of the time. I mean, obviously,
- 20:39Speaker 6: with these horror movies, there's a certain amount of choices
- 20:41Speaker 6: that happen that you look at the screen and you're like,
- 20:44Speaker 6: you must be shitting me.
- 20:45Speaker 9: And I only have a certain amount of tolerance for that.
- 20:47Speaker 6: Now, by the end of the film, I'd run out
- 20:49Speaker 6: of tolerance for some of the decisions being made. um
- 20:51Speaker 6: just sheer stupidity and um people taking really long to
- 20:56Speaker 6: hand really important stuff over and all this shit yeah
- 20:59Speaker 6: um i really really liked it uh not as much
- 21:02Speaker 6: as i thought i would but it was still really
- 21:04Speaker 6: good it had a lot of references to the games
- 21:06Speaker 6: in there so a lot of great fan service to
- 21:09Speaker 6: fans of the original franchise not the old movie franchise
- 21:11Speaker 6: um and he was just it was like a Realistic take.
- 21:17Speaker 6: The game's obviously you're a superhuman. You pick up weapons everywhere.
- 21:20Speaker 6: There's ammo coming out of your ears and you're just
- 21:22Speaker 6: popping heads off zombies. He did not deal with that.
- 21:25Speaker 6: He had very few bullets. He wasted a lot of them.
- 21:28Speaker 6: It was very realistic. And the creatures were great. The
- 21:31Speaker 6: CGI was pretty good. The blood was awesome. Some great scares,
- 21:34Speaker 6: but mostly just fun.
- 21:36Speaker 5: Great.
- 21:36Speaker 6: So I give it a solid 3.25 buzzies.
- 21:40Speaker 7: There we go.
- 21:41Speaker 9: Out of a possible five.
- 21:42Speaker 6: That's Resident Evil.
- 21:42Speaker 7: We're in for a second decimal place now, are we?
- 21:45Speaker 7: For me, yeah. Yeah, okay.
- 21:46Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And you can see that at the
- 21:48Speaker 6: movies still. That's Resident Evil.
- 21:50Speaker 7: Get around it.
- 21:54Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.
- 21:57Speaker 2: Tune in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 22:03Speaker 10: It's the Hauraki Big Show's Friday Throbber.
- 22:07Speaker 6: Doosh, doosh. Dilly.
- 22:11Speaker 7: Come on, man.
- 22:12Speaker 6: Again, man.
- 22:13Speaker 7: I got it. Did you?
- 22:14Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 22:14Speaker 7: Okay, okay.
- 22:16Speaker 6: Hey, nice work, Dilly.
- 22:17Speaker 7: Thanks, guys. Sorry, I'm a surgeon. So it's normally the
- 22:19Speaker 7: Friday throbber, isn't it, fellas? But we're doing it on
- 22:21Speaker 7: a Thursday because old Mogi's taking tomorrow off. And this
- 22:24Speaker 7: is where we play a tune to get your Friday rocking,
- 22:27Speaker 7: or in this case, Thursday. Two votes. You give us
- 22:31Speaker 7: a call on 0800-IRAKI. First to two votes is the
- 22:33Speaker 7: best two out of three. That song then gets played,
- 22:37Speaker 7: and everybody lives happily ever after. Is that about right?
- 22:40Speaker 6: Well, mostly, except for that last part.
- 22:42Speaker 7: Except for the two people that lose. Yeah, that's exactly right.
- 22:44Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Now, last week, Dilly, you were the
- 22:47Speaker 6: guest and you went first. Do you want to go
- 22:48Speaker 6: again first? Yeah, I can go first.
- 22:51Speaker 11: This week, I sort of went on a similar theme
- 22:53Speaker 11: as last week. Now, this band, I'm surprised that we
- 22:56Speaker 11: don't play them as much as we do. We've kind
- 22:58Speaker 11: of leaned into heavier bands in the past, your corns
- 23:00Speaker 11: and your system of downs. So I feel like we should,
- 23:03Speaker 11: you know, tuck back into a.
- 23:04Speaker 3: Little bit of Slipknot.
- 23:05Speaker 7: Why not?
- 23:09Speaker 3: A bit of duality by Slipknot.
- 23:26Speaker 7: Well, the funny thing about that is, Dilly, is I've
- 23:30Speaker 7: already won with that song this year, which means you
- 23:33Speaker 7: can't pick it. But I'm prepared to let it go
- 23:35Speaker 7: through to the keeper.
- 23:37Speaker 3: On this occasion.
- 23:38Speaker 7: Speaking of System of a Down, I've gone with System
- 23:40Speaker 7: of a Down, BYOB.
- 24:02Speaker 6: That is a tuned system of a down B-Y-O-B for
- 24:05Speaker 6: Mogi's throw. Now, last week, Mogi, you were thinking that
- 24:09Speaker 6: I was going to go for Yummy Boys. Yes. I
- 24:10Speaker 6: hit back with Amel and the Sniffers.
- 24:12Speaker 7: No one was keen, so now you've gone back to
- 24:14Speaker 7: the well, Yummy Boys. What do you mean?
- 24:16Speaker 6: I won the throw.
- 24:16Speaker 5: Oh, did you?
- 24:17Speaker 6: Yeah, with Amel and the Sniffers.
- 24:18Speaker 7: That's not how I remember it.
- 24:20Speaker 6: I remember someone wasn't keen, and I think it might
- 24:22Speaker 6: have been us. My one win of the year. You
- 24:24Speaker 6: can't remember. Oh, that's true. So anyway, I've pivoted back
- 24:27Speaker 6: to Yummy Boys. This is Nero Innocence.
- 24:50Speaker 7: That's the tune.
- 24:51Speaker 6: That is Nero Innocence. And those are your three choices
- 24:53Speaker 6: for the Friday Throbber.
- 24:54Speaker 7: Give us a.
- 24:55Speaker 6: Call now on 0800 Hauraki and first to two votes
- 25:00Speaker 6: will win. In the meantime, we will go to a
- 25:02Speaker 6: bit of a tune, actually.
- 25:04Speaker 7: What have we got here?
- 25:05Speaker 6: A bit of Pearl Jam, I guess.
- 25:06Speaker 7: How about that?
- 25:07Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Tune in weekdays at four on Radio Hauraki.
- 25:17Speaker 7: It's the Hauraki Big Shows.
- 25:19Speaker 5: Thursday. Throbber.
- 25:22Speaker 3: Dish Dish.
- 25:23Speaker 6: That's right, that's where we each pick a tune to
- 25:25Speaker 6: kick off your Thursday, because today is Mogi's Friday. Now,
- 25:31Speaker 6: who did we go first with before Dilly U went?
- 25:34Speaker 11: It was me, and I chose a bit of Slipknot Duality.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I push my fingers.
- 25:40Speaker 6: Until I.
- 25:55Speaker 6: That's a great tune there from Slipknot. Mogi, you went
- 25:59Speaker 6: for some.
- 26:00Speaker 7: BYOB by System of a Down. Oh, sorry. Asterisk.
- 26:21Speaker 6: And I went for a complete yummy boys with Nero's Innocence.
- 26:43Speaker 6: One of the great electronic dance tunes of our time. Now,
- 26:47Speaker 6: should we go to the phones, fellas? Yes.
- 26:49Speaker 9: G'day, Chris, you mad bastard.
- 26:50Speaker 6: How's it going?
- 26:52Speaker 8: Very good. How are you guys?
- 26:53Speaker 2: Great, mate.
- 26:54Speaker 7: What do you reckon?
- 26:56Speaker 8: I've got to be narrow, but a yummy voice.
- 26:58Speaker 7: Oh, I get it.
- 27:00Speaker 6: You're an absolute ledger, mate, and that's why we love you.
- 27:02Speaker 6: All right, thanks for the call, bro. Have a great Thursday. Elliot,
- 27:06Speaker 6: how's Auckland?
- 27:08Speaker 2: Not too bad, fellas.
- 27:09Speaker 7: How are you? What do you reckon, mate? What do
- 27:11Speaker 7: you reckon?
- 27:12Speaker 8: Well, I'm a long-time listener of the Throbber, first-time caller.
- 27:16Speaker 6: I always imagined I would do something to, you know,
- 27:19Speaker 6: swing a vote that would piss Keezy off.
- 27:22Speaker 3: However, today I've thought nothing better than the whole podcast
- 27:26Speaker 3: listeners having a listen to Nero.
- 27:28Speaker 7: There you go.
- 27:29Speaker 6: Oh, yeah, you're going to go for a bit of Nero?
- 27:30Speaker 6: You want to put him through?
- 27:31Speaker 7: All yours, Pugsley.
- 27:32Speaker 6: No, thanks very much for the call, Elliot. And call
- 27:35Speaker 6: any time, won't you?
- 27:36Speaker 5: All right?
- 27:36Speaker 6: For goodness sake.
- 27:37Speaker 7: Love your work. Happy to.
- 27:39Speaker 6: Good on you, mate. Okay, fellas, well, there you go.
- 27:42Speaker 6: Another throbber in the bag for old pugs.
- 27:44Speaker 9: That's two in a row just by the way.
- 27:45Speaker 7: Pack the bag, baby.
- 27:46Speaker 6: We want to know what you think as well, so
- 27:49Speaker 6: send in your thoughts to 3483. And in the meantime,
- 27:52Speaker 6: here's some dubstep on a Thursday after on the Hauraki
- 27:55Speaker 6: Big Show. This is Innocence Nero.
- 27:57Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 28:05Speaker 6: That there, your Thursday throb, Innocence by Nero.
- 28:09Speaker 9: It's the Hauraki Big Show. You've got Pugs and Mogi here.
- 28:13Speaker 6: Two wins. Two wins for me there, Mogi. My only
- 28:16Speaker 6: two wins for the entire year, so I will be
- 28:19Speaker 6: taking that. Thank you very much. We've had a few
- 28:21Speaker 6: texts here on 3483.
- 28:23Speaker 9: What is this, the edge?
- 28:24Speaker 6: Lay off the pipe, fellas.
- 28:26Speaker 7: That's really good stuff.
- 28:28Speaker 6: Another one here saying it sounds like multiple computers having
- 28:31Speaker 6: an orgy I'm inclined to agree yes Pugs Nose Ball
- 28:36Speaker 6: I'll take that I'll take that I wanted to vote
- 28:39Speaker 6: for Nero as well my name is Inez and I
- 28:41Speaker 6: just like the sound of my name over and over.
- 28:43Speaker 7: Again there's a fella here John he's not happy with
- 28:45Speaker 7: the tunes I played you've got to ring up and
- 28:47Speaker 7: vote man.
- 28:49Speaker 6: Oh my gosh you're so right it's like the bloody
- 28:51Speaker 6: election if you don't vote you can't have.
- 28:53Speaker 7: An opinion thank you Pugs alright.
- 28:54Speaker 6: Honorroll.nz and vote.nz how good Yeah, three effing shitters bring
- 28:59Speaker 6: back Hodaki.
- 29:00Speaker 7: Cheers, John.
- 29:01Speaker 6: What a shitter. That's really good stuff. I'm thrilled with that.
- 29:05Speaker 6: It's nice to have some yummy boys, some proper yummy boys.
- 29:07Speaker 7: Back in the mix. All you need is the two
- 29:07Speaker 7: people that ring up to be into it, man. That's
- 29:09Speaker 7: the only thing that counts.
- 29:10Speaker 9: That's the only thing that counts.
- 29:12Speaker 6: Now, plenty on the way for the rest of the hour.
- 29:14Speaker 6: We're going to have a best bit from the Hodaki
- 29:15Speaker 6: Big Show archives next, plus after 5.30, Will from This
- 29:19Speaker 6: Warrior's Life to talk about the Rugby League World Cup.
- 29:21Speaker 9: And a bit more queens of the Stone Age chat.
- 29:26Speaker 6: What are you snickering about over in the corner? Here's Nirvana.
- 29:33Speaker 6: It's the Hodaki Big Show.
- 29:35Speaker 2: The Hodaki Big Show with Jace, Mike and Keezy.
- 29:38Speaker 1: Tune in weekdays at 4pm.
- 29:40Speaker 6: On Radio Hodaki. I'm Radio Hodaki.
- 29:44Speaker 5: Yeah, with Pugs and Mokey.
- 29:51Speaker 6: Look, we're diving into the archive some of the Big
- 29:54Speaker 6: Show's best bits from throughout the years because it's Mogi's
- 29:57Speaker 6: Friday before he heads off on his long birthday weekend.
- 29:59Speaker 7: That's right.
- 30:00Speaker 6: We just want to make sure we've got the best
- 30:02Speaker 6: content possible for the people.
- 30:03Speaker 7: Look, nothing but the best. You've got Keezy and Jason
- 30:07Speaker 7: Hoyt will be returning to the airwaves on Monday afternoon.
- 30:10Speaker 7: Very excited about that. But in the meantime, you've got
- 30:12Speaker 7: to have a little bit of a teaser, don't you?
- 30:14Speaker 7: A little bit of a walk down memory lane.
- 30:15Speaker 6: That's exactly right, and this is an absolute doozy. You
- 30:18Speaker 6: remember when Jay said he was going to learn entire
- 30:21Speaker 6: albums with the piano?
- 30:22Speaker 7: I don't know why he said that.
- 30:23Speaker 6: I don't know why he does anything.
- 30:25Speaker 7: Nobody asked him to do that.
- 30:26Speaker 9: But this is him trying to learn one.
- 30:28Speaker 3: You've just joined us. The time has officially come.
- 30:30Speaker 12: Hoide Jay has had five weeks to learn one very
- 30:33Speaker 12: simple piano song by Paul Buchanan. It was his New
- 30:37Speaker 12: Year's resolution. We've decided to really hold him to it
- 30:39Speaker 12: and hold him accountable.
- 30:40Speaker 7: Yeah, like any absolute backbone, he's decided to cram at
- 30:44Speaker 7: the very last minute.
- 30:46Speaker 3: He didn't even have a keyboard until yesterday.
- 30:48Speaker 7: And that was as a result of it being supplied
- 30:51Speaker 7: to him by nothing that Jase did at all.
- 30:54Speaker 12: The funniest thing was, Nick from Elliot's Music Academy sorts
- 30:57Speaker 12: him out a keyboard thanks to the rock shop.
- 31:00Speaker 3: And then after the show, Jase just goes, now I've
- 31:03Speaker 3: got to take this back to my car.
- 31:05Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 31:05Speaker 3: So he was pissed off about it. How are you feeling, Jase?
- 31:09Speaker 5: Good things, Keezy.
- 31:10Speaker 7: Yeah, good, good, good. All right, so.
- 31:11Speaker 5: Thanks for building it up so much, by the way, fellas.
- 31:14Speaker 3: No worries, man.
- 31:14Speaker 7: All right, so.
- 31:15Speaker 4: And thanks to Nick and Elliot School of Music and
- 31:19Speaker 4: the Rock.
- 31:19Speaker 3: Music Academy, yeah.
- 31:20Speaker 5: Music Academy and the Rock Shop.
- 31:22Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 31:22Speaker 5: How good, eh?
- 31:23Speaker 3: It's bloody good.
- 31:24Speaker 12: So this right here is the tune that Jase is
- 31:27Speaker 12: going to be performing for you very shortly.
- 31:29Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 31:30Speaker 3: Upon the high.
- 31:32Speaker 4: Trapeze The day she fell in her hands.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Okay, stop it there.
- 31:42Speaker 3: No.
- 31:46Speaker 7: All right.
- 31:47Speaker 12: So that is the song, Paul Buchanan, Mid-Air. Jase, you've
- 31:51Speaker 12: got the option here. Would you like fake crowd sound
- 31:53Speaker 12: effects underneath you just to spice things up and make
- 31:55Speaker 12: it sound a bit better like this?
- 32:00Speaker 3: I think that's quite funny.
- 32:00Speaker 5: That actually makes me tense up, Keezy.
- 32:02Speaker 3: Okay, we'll use that as well then.
- 32:03Speaker 7: Good, good, good.
- 32:06Speaker 5: Good, so you want me to tense up. Yeah, good.
- 32:10Speaker 5: I don't know that I've got my seating right here either. Okay.
- 32:14Speaker 7: You'll be fine. As we've learned over the years, Jase,
- 32:15Speaker 7: no one's listening, brother.
- 32:16Speaker 3: You'll be all right.
- 32:17Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true.
- 32:17Speaker 7: All right, Jase.
- 32:18Speaker 4: Thank God we suck on the radio and no one
- 32:20Speaker 4: actually listens to the show.
- 32:22Speaker 3: Jase, here you go, brother.
- 32:27Speaker 7: A very special performance from Mr.
- 32:31Speaker 3: Jason Hall!
- 32:44Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 33:17Speaker 7: Absolutely nailed it. Thank you very much, everyone.
- 33:20Speaker 6: Wow.
- 33:21Speaker 7: That was pretty good. Is that the best version of
- 33:22Speaker 7: that you've done?
- 33:25Speaker 5: No, I was actually quite good at home. I was
- 33:27Speaker 5: a bit tense there.
- 33:28Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 33:29Speaker 5: And I haven't got the subtleties of Paul.
- 33:32Speaker 7: Buchanan, obviously. Imagine the thousands of children that have been inspired, Jase,
- 33:36Speaker 7: to now pick up the guitar.
- 33:41Speaker 6: That there is Jason Hoyt making a promise to us
- 33:44Speaker 6: and to you, the listener, that he would learn an
- 33:46Speaker 6: entire album's worth of piano songs, and that was the
- 33:49Speaker 6: only one that he learned, and that is how the
- 33:51Speaker 6: performance turned out.
- 33:52Speaker 7: That's right, and he was given a piano, and he
- 33:54Speaker 7: held on to it for about a year, and then
- 33:55Speaker 7: he gave it back, you know, untouched, as new.
- 33:58Speaker 6: Absolute banger from him. You can listen to every podcast
- 34:02Speaker 6: we've ever done. Just at Trotiki Big Show, wherever you
- 34:04Speaker 6: get yours. After the break, we're going to be chatting
- 34:06Speaker 6: to Will from the This Warrior's Life podcast. about the
- 34:10Speaker 6: Rugby League World Cup.
- 34:12Speaker 1: The Hauraki Big Show.
- 34:13Speaker 2: Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 34:16Speaker 6: It's back on the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs and Mogi. Mogi,
- 34:21Speaker 6: it's time for a bit of league chat.
- 34:22Speaker 7: You bet it is, mate. You bet it is. Today
- 34:26Speaker 7: is the day that we're kicking off the Rugby League
- 34:28Speaker 7: World Cup. Well, thankfully, I'm not. It'll be Australia or
- 34:31Speaker 7: New Zealand. I won't be on the field at all.
- 34:33Speaker 7: It's 10 o'clock local time in New Zealand. 10 o'clock
- 34:39Speaker 7: in New Zealand, 8 o'clock over in Australia and Sydney
- 34:41Speaker 7: where it's being played. It's Australia v New Zealand. Hell
- 34:45Speaker 7: of a game it's going to be and to discuss
- 34:46Speaker 7: it we've got Will Evans from the This Warrior's Life podcast,
- 34:50Speaker 7: the greatest rugby league podcast in New Zealand. How are
- 34:53Speaker 7: you feeling about it, Will?
- 34:55Speaker 8: Pretty excited, Moggy. Doesn't get much bigger than this. Four
- 34:58Speaker 8: fans of the Kiwis, Cup and opener against Australia in Sydney. Yeah,
- 35:03Speaker 8: just So many storylines around it and plenty of confidence
- 35:07Speaker 8: surrounding the Kiwis, their line-up and their chances of taking
- 35:11Speaker 8: off the trophy.
- 35:14Speaker 7: It sort of feels like it's going to be a
- 35:15Speaker 7: flogging to me. And it's an interesting one because Australia,
- 35:20Speaker 7: I mean, because they've had it so good for so long,
- 35:22Speaker 7: it's almost like they don't take it very seriously. And
- 35:24Speaker 7: I think what they're going to come up against is
- 35:27Speaker 7: the high expectations of the Australian public because the Australian
- 35:31Speaker 7: public expects to win when it comes to sport.
- 35:34Speaker 8: Yeah, absolutely, and this Kangaroos team as well, they're just
- 35:39Speaker 8: used to winning, and they have. They've won just about
- 35:42Speaker 8: every time they take the field. Their record against the
- 35:45Speaker 8: Kiwis is almost exactly the same as the All Blacks'
- 35:48Speaker 8: record against the Wallabies. They've lost one World Cup game
- 35:52Speaker 8: since 1995, so.
- 35:56Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a tough ask, and Kiwis don't traditionally start
- 35:59Speaker 8: these sort of tournaments that strongly, but we've had a
- 36:02Speaker 8: lot of success in finals against the Kangaroos, of course. But, yeah,
- 36:06Speaker 8: we're looking to get off to a flying start. Yeah,
- 36:09Speaker 8: they're chomping at the bit. A few stats for you, Muggy.
- 36:12Speaker 7: Give me the stats.
- 36:14Speaker 8: So only three of the Kiwis named in the 17th
- 36:17Speaker 8: didn't feature in week two of the NRL finals or beyond.
- 36:21Speaker 8: whereas the eight Kangaroos didn't play in the finals at all,
- 36:24Speaker 8: and another five were out of contention after week one.
- 36:28Speaker 8: So the Kiwis have picked players that have been playing,
- 36:31Speaker 8: that are in form, and went deep into the finals.
- 36:35Speaker 8: The Kangaroos have picked a lot of players that had
- 36:37Speaker 8: sort of injury-hampered campaigns, down on form and that sort
- 36:42Speaker 8: of thing. A few contentious selections, Reece Walsh and Mitch
- 36:47Speaker 8: Moses over Sam Walker and James Nadesko, the grand final heroes.
- 36:51Speaker 8: So there's a lot to be confident about.
- 36:52Speaker 7: Yeah, well, I guess they can afford to rest on
- 36:54Speaker 7: knowing that they're going to go through from the pools anyway.
- 36:56Speaker 7: You've got a couple of guys there that played big
- 36:58Speaker 7: roles all the way through to the grand final. Clive Futrell, medalist.
- 37:02Speaker 7: Might as well give them a rest and see how
- 37:03Speaker 7: these other blokes go. How do you feel about a
- 37:06Speaker 7: 10 o'clock kickoff in New Zealand? I love how we're
- 37:09Speaker 7: completely excluding children from watching this game.
- 37:13Speaker 8: Yeah, it's a bit rough. The grand final's obviously on
- 37:17Speaker 8: 9.30 on a Sunday night here, which is a kick
- 37:19Speaker 8: in the teeth. State of origin, you've got to stay
- 37:21Speaker 8: up until about 1 in the morning to get to
- 37:23Speaker 8: full time. So it's nothing new for us, poor Kiwi supporters. But, yeah,
- 37:28Speaker 8: it's a bit rough on a Thursday.
- 37:29Speaker 7: I've taken tomorrow off.
- 37:32Speaker 8: Yeah, good call. I'm going to have to do the same, mate.
- 37:33Speaker 7: I'm no idiot. So you've obviously got an episode of
- 37:37Speaker 7: the podcast. You'll be going all the way through the
- 37:39Speaker 7: Rugby World Cup, dissecting and previewing the games that are
- 37:44Speaker 7: coming up. What's the next one?
- 37:46Speaker 8: It's about the great Lance Ohio, World Cup hero of 2008.
- 37:50Speaker 8: He's been a regular on the podcast this year and
- 37:53Speaker 8: he's continuing with us, going to wrap up the game
- 37:56Speaker 8: on Tuesday morning. That'll be going out live, 8.30 New
- 37:59Speaker 8: Zealand time in the morning. And yeah, we've got a
- 38:02Speaker 8: Kiwis player rating article as well on thiswarriorslife.com after every
- 38:07Speaker 8: Kiwis game as well. So lap that up.
- 38:09Speaker 7: Absolutely will be into that. I remember that 2008 World Cup.
- 38:12Speaker 7: I was at home. My partner at the time was
- 38:14Speaker 7: from the Czech Republic. She couldn't care less about rugby league.
- 38:17Speaker 7: I thought we had no chance. And then all of
- 38:19Speaker 7: a sudden we'd won it. And I said to her, geez,
- 38:22Speaker 7: I think I have to go out on the town
- 38:24Speaker 7: and get leathered. And I think it was a Sunday
- 38:27Speaker 7: from memory. It was a weird time to try and
- 38:29Speaker 7: go out and find a party. But I managed to.
- 38:33Speaker 7: Look forward to having a chat to you probably next week, man.
- 38:35Speaker 7: This Warrior's Life is a fantastic podcast. Get it in
- 38:39Speaker 7: you wherever you get your podcasts. Cheers, Will.
- 38:41Speaker 5: Yeah, thanks, fellas.
- 38:43Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 38:47Speaker 6: It's Woke Boy and the truth on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 38:50Speaker 6: You've got Pugs and Mogi here. Jason Kesey back Monday. Now, yesterday,
- 38:54Speaker 6: it was a big show. First, the show started off
- 38:58Speaker 6: where we were calling you out, Mogi, for your jeans
- 39:00Speaker 6: and jandal combination, and we brought it to the people.
- 39:03Speaker 6: And I'm not allowed to give you shit about that
- 39:05Speaker 6: anymore because it was a binding referendum. The poll said
- 39:08Speaker 6: jeans with jandals, 51%. Landslide.
- 39:10Speaker 7: Landslide. Absolute landslide.
- 39:14Speaker 6: Creamed it, man.
- 39:14Speaker 7: Yeah, man.
- 39:15Speaker 6: But the discussion wasn't over. We also got to talking
- 39:18Speaker 6: to Troy Van Leeuwen from Queens in the Stone Age.
- 39:20Speaker 6: He's a guitarist.
- 39:21Speaker 7: Queens in the Stone Age.
- 39:22Speaker 6: Queens in the Stone Age. Queens of the Stone Age.
- 39:24Speaker 6: And he's part of another band as well called Queens
- 39:26Speaker 6: of the Stone Age on the side to that.
- 39:29Speaker 7: More popular.
- 39:30Speaker 6: Yeah yeah yeah that's right and so we put it
- 39:32Speaker 6: to him and you can actually listen to the full
- 39:35Speaker 6: chat and the full podcast now by searching Horaki Big
- 39:38Speaker 6: Show wherever you get yours but here's a little snippet
- 39:41Speaker 6: of an edited part of that conversation.
- 39:43Speaker 7: I've got a real problem man I've turned 50 today
- 39:46Speaker 7: I've got a real problem with summer fashion and The
- 39:49Speaker 7: young fellas here like Pugsan, they wear shorts and then
- 39:53Speaker 7: they wear sort of business socks pulled up halfway up
- 39:56Speaker 7: their calf and then some kind of a comfortable sneaker.
- 40:00Speaker 7: I hate it, man, but I don't know what to
- 40:02Speaker 7: do because my only other option is tight jeans and
- 40:05Speaker 7: sweaty balls.
- 40:07Speaker 10: Yeah, that's a look that's kind of universally, I guess, accepted, technically.
- 40:15Speaker 7: Like here too. Yeah, right. Kind of everywhere.
- 40:19Speaker 5: You know what?
- 40:19Speaker 7: Life is short.
- 40:20Speaker 5: You've got to be comfortable.
- 40:21Speaker 7: Yeah, I agree. I agree. Well, you haven't helped me
- 40:24Speaker 7: at all there, but I was hoping you'd just bag pugs. Sorry.
- 40:27Speaker 7: I was hoping you'd bag pugs and we could get
- 40:29Speaker 7: on in with our lives.
- 40:30Speaker 6: He was setting me up. Well, since we're on the
- 40:32Speaker 6: bagging each other route with our clothes, Mogi's renowned around
- 40:35Speaker 6: here for wearing jeans and flip-flops.
- 40:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 40:37Speaker 9: Skinny jeans and flip-flops. I don't know what your thoughts
- 40:39Speaker 9: are on that.
- 40:42Speaker 7: Well, you guys, you're going at each other.
- 40:43Speaker 5: Okay.
- 40:45Speaker 6: You're mediating us, man.
- 40:47Speaker 5: If you want, I'll go. I'll go hard.
- 40:51Speaker 7: Yeah, you'll get the rhythm for it. That's kind of
- 40:53Speaker 7: what the whole show is based on. You just drag
- 40:55Speaker 7: each other.
- 40:55Speaker 10: Well, flip-flops and jeans, you know, that's a whole other offense,
- 40:58Speaker 10: you know, fashion, speaking about fashion. You know, I might
- 41:04Speaker 10: be more inclined to judge you for that.
- 41:05Speaker 7: Is that right?
- 41:06Speaker 5: The shorts and, yeah.
- 41:08Speaker 7: Oh, right. Okay, well, there you go.
- 41:10Speaker 5: You've got to commit yourself, you know what I mean?
- 41:12Speaker 10: It's like either shorts or full goth, you know, regalia.
- 41:17Speaker 7: Yeah, okay, then I've got to go with the boots.
- 41:19Speaker 7: All right, I'll go on the beach in my boots
- 41:21Speaker 7: and jeans.
- 41:22Speaker 6: So that is Pugs and Mogi talking to Troy Van
- 41:25Speaker 6: Leeuwen from Queens of the Stone Age about Mogi's fashion
- 41:29Speaker 6: choice jeans with jandals.
- 41:32Speaker 7: That's right, yeah. And so he was against it, obviously.
- 41:36Speaker 6: But he's one person, man, and the people said 51%
- 41:38Speaker 6: of people.
- 41:39Speaker 7: He could have voted like everyone else. He would have
- 41:40Speaker 7: been wrong.
- 41:41Speaker 6: Yeah. Now, you can listen to the full conversation with
- 41:44Speaker 6: Troy Van Leeuwen now by searching Hauraki Big Show, wherever
- 41:47Speaker 6: you get your podcasts from. Good 17-minute yarn there.
- 41:50Speaker 9: We do talk about the music as well, but there's
- 41:52Speaker 9: heaps of great stuff. It's the Hauraki Big Show.
- 41:57Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 42:00Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 42:02Speaker 6: Welcome back, you massive backbones. It is the Hauraki Big Show.
- 42:06Speaker 6: It's Woke Boy and the Truth brought to you by
- 42:08Speaker 6: the good fellas making the handcrafted burgers, loaded fries and
- 42:12Speaker 6: gourmet eats that will change the game.
- 42:14Speaker 5: The name's Burger.
- 42:15Speaker 6: Dash, dash, dash.
- 42:17Speaker 5: Re-Burger.
- 42:21Speaker 9: Mogi, I saw Jase today.
- 42:22Speaker 8: Oh, yes.
- 42:23Speaker 9: He's back from his holiday.
- 42:24Speaker 6: Okay.
- 42:24Speaker 7: Oh, really?
- 42:25Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, because he's back on the show on Monday.
- 42:27Speaker 7: Oh, I thought he would have been back tomorrow or Sunday.
- 42:30Speaker 6: I know, I know. He got back yesterday, and from
- 42:32Speaker 6: the sounds of it, he's going to have a couple
- 42:33Speaker 6: of yarns from his travels.
- 42:35Speaker 5: I bet.
- 42:35Speaker 6: Because I said, how are you going? And he said, oh,
- 42:37Speaker 6: I tell you what, full on doing a roadie with
- 42:39Speaker 6: your family like that, like out on the road for
- 42:41Speaker 6: that long.
- 42:41Speaker 7: Well, initially it wasn't going to be, oh, it was
- 42:45Speaker 7: his little one, wasn't it? Yeah, yeah, yeah. There was
- 42:47Speaker 7: just the three of them, and then there was a
- 42:48Speaker 7: period where I think another one was.
- 42:50Speaker 6: Yeah, there was like three of them at one point.
- 42:52Speaker 7: Right.
- 42:52Speaker 6: Two or three of them at one point.
- 42:53Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 42:54Speaker 9: You can hear about that when Jase gets back on Monday.
- 42:56Speaker 7: There's one thing I know. It will not have gone smoothly. Well, no.
- 43:00Speaker 6: We saw it on his story.
- 43:01Speaker 9: His car broke down in the middle of Bum, if nowhere.
- 43:03Speaker 7: I've never seen a car break down.
- 43:05Speaker 9: No, and need a push start.
- 43:06Speaker 7: Yeah, like, not once you get to a certain age.
- 43:09Speaker 7: You stop having absolute garbage cars, and normally you get
- 43:11Speaker 7: a rental that works, but... I cannot wait. I cannot wait.
- 43:15Speaker 9: It could only happen, Hoity J.
- 43:16Speaker 7: And it's going to be nice for Keezy to come
- 43:18Speaker 7: straight back into the teeth of it and just instant stress.
- 43:21Speaker 6: 100%.
- 43:22Speaker 7: And having to hear what Jase went through.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Especially automobile-related issues, because if Chris was there, he could
- 43:27Speaker 6: have sorted it out. That's right, he could have called
- 43:29Speaker 6: his dad. Keezy over in Japan at the moment. He'll
- 43:30Speaker 6: be back on Monday as well. Now, Plenty, before we
- 43:34Speaker 6: get out of here, we're going to have our poll
- 43:35Speaker 6: results for naming your two emoji.
- 43:37Speaker 9: That'll be closer to the end of the show.
- 43:38Speaker 6: Yes. And up next, we're going to have another best bit.
- 43:42Speaker 6: And I've kind of picked it based on what I
- 43:44Speaker 6: reckon you're going to get up to this weekend for
- 43:47Speaker 6: your birthday. So first up, though, here's some LMNOP on
- 43:51Speaker 6: the Hauraki Big Show.
- 43:51Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 43:57Speaker 6: It's Weezer on the Hauraki Big Show with Pugs and
- 44:00Speaker 6: Mogi diving into the archives with some of our most
- 44:03Speaker 6: iconic moments here on the Big Show.
- 44:04Speaker 9: And I've brought back... Another segment, Mogi.
- 44:07Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 9: But it's a smaller segment.
- 44:08Speaker 12: Okay.
- 44:08Speaker 6: One of the more niche ones. It was short-lived, but
- 44:12Speaker 6: I picked it because I know it's your birthday weekend
- 44:14Speaker 6: coming up. You've got potentially a big night if you
- 44:16Speaker 6: make it to the viewing tonight. So this is revisiting
- 44:21Speaker 6: Durry Chat. Oh.
- 44:23Speaker 5: Aim for a durry, mate?
- 44:25Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:25Speaker 3: You guys look so cool.
- 44:27Speaker 4: Durry Chat with Jason Mike. Well, we heard Mike's story.
- 44:34Speaker 4: They're very disappointing. He's been punching them hard. He's back
- 44:38Speaker 4: on the durries at the moment since he went away
- 44:40Speaker 4: on holiday.
- 44:41Speaker 3: But then he's stopping in a week's time.
- 44:42Speaker 5: Monday, Monday.
- 44:43Speaker 7: And then he's starting six weeks after that.
- 44:47Speaker 12: So, by the way, 3483, text us if you've recently
- 44:49Speaker 12: given up smoking.
- 44:50Speaker 7: So I thought, Jase, because you've been away in Sydney
- 44:54Speaker 7: on your big holidays there, and quite stressful. It wasn't
- 44:58Speaker 7: a sort of a holiday for fun or anything like that.
- 45:00Speaker 7: It was a family emergency.
- 45:02Speaker 5: Yes.
- 45:02Speaker 7: And I sort of had the feeling that you would
- 45:04Speaker 7: have buckled under even the small amount of pressure that
- 45:08Speaker 7: was applied to you there. I'd been hanging off the
- 45:11Speaker 7: end of the dart before you'd made your way all
- 45:13Speaker 7: the way through duty-free at the airport there, but you
- 45:15Speaker 7: managed to stick it out.
- 45:16Speaker 5: Oh, no, mate, I absolutely smashed the bastards.
- 45:19Speaker 7: Oh, wait.
- 45:20Speaker 12: Well, hang on, you were just giving him heaps of
- 45:22Speaker 12: jerk about him.
- 45:22Speaker 5: Well, I mean, I expect better from Mogi. You know
- 45:25Speaker 5: what I mean?
- 45:26Speaker 3: But not from yourself.
- 45:27Speaker 5: He's got discipline.
- 45:29Speaker 4: Look, as you explained there, Mogi, one of my girls
- 45:32Speaker 4: had a bit of an accident over in Sydney there,
- 45:34Speaker 4: and so Hoity J's entire holiday from Tuesday to Saturday
- 45:40Speaker 4: was literally sitting.
- 45:41Speaker 5: In an Australian public hospital.
- 45:45Speaker 7: Nice.
- 45:45Speaker 5: So that was good. Great little park across the road,
- 45:49Speaker 5: 33 degrees outside. Old Hoity J would just wander across
- 45:53Speaker 5: the park there.
- 45:54Speaker 4: Smoke 10 durries and go back in and sit next
- 45:56Speaker 4: to my daughter.
- 45:57Speaker 7: Could you get your hands on any heroin in the park?
- 46:01Speaker 7: A lot of heroin over there.
- 46:02Speaker 5: Actually, I probably could have. There are a lot of
- 46:05Speaker 5: people there that maybe, you know.
- 46:06Speaker 7: Responsibly.
- 46:07Speaker 5: But, yeah, no, I'll be honest with you, and I'll
- 46:09Speaker 5: be honest with.
- 46:09Speaker 4: Everyone here on the team, everyone out there, you know,
- 46:12Speaker 4: I was smashing the darts.
- 46:14Speaker 3: Well, okay, right, so that's fine, right?
- 46:16Speaker 7: So you're back now.
- 46:17Speaker 5: Oh, I'm back.
- 46:18Speaker 7: I'm back, brother. I mean, you're back in New Zealand.
- 46:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 46:21Speaker 7: So are you still on them?
- 46:22Speaker 8: Oh, sorry.
- 46:22Speaker 5: Yeah, no, right. Yeah, pardon?
- 46:24Speaker 7: So you're still on them?
- 46:24Speaker 4: Yeah, look, the situation is, you know, the stress hasn't
- 46:30Speaker 4: necessarily subsided yet.
- 46:32Speaker 7: Sure. You're clinging on to it for dear life.
- 46:34Speaker 5: I am having the odd one or two.
- 46:37Speaker 7: Sure.
- 46:37Speaker 4: I mean, I don't have any major fitness program planned,
- 46:42Speaker 4: but I am going to the gym every day.
- 46:43Speaker 7: Sure.
- 46:44Speaker 5: And there's nothing better than doing a workout and having a.
- 46:47Speaker 3: No, Jase.
- 46:48Speaker 5: Jase. But I'm not going to do that because I
- 46:51Speaker 5: was doing so well.
- 46:52Speaker 7: Wasn't I, Keezy? That's right. The whole point of this was...
- 46:53Speaker 7: I remember that.
- 46:54Speaker 3: Remember when you got people to come and test your
- 46:55Speaker 3: lungs and all that stuff?
- 46:56Speaker 8: Yeah, yeah.
- 46:57Speaker 7: We wasted their time.
- 46:58Speaker 12: You just completely ditched it. And a lot of people
- 47:00Speaker 12: texting in on 3483 disappointed. I'm off the darts as
- 47:03Speaker 12: of last week. You guys have got no backbone. Knew
- 47:06Speaker 12: you wouldn't be able to quit.
- 47:07Speaker 7: Shit, that's rough.
- 47:08Speaker 12: Pretty disappointing for Mogi and Jase after the holidays. I
- 47:10Speaker 12: hope there's a solution on the horizon.
- 47:12Speaker 7: Horizon cigarettes, yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 47:14Speaker 7: They're quite cheap. Oh, is that a joke?
- 47:16Speaker 4: Funnily enough, I got a carton of those going through duty.
- 47:19Speaker 3: Well, what's the plan?
- 47:20Speaker 5: Pardon?
- 47:21Speaker 3: What are we doing here? What's the plan?
- 47:22Speaker 5: Well, once I finish the show, I'll get in the
- 47:24Speaker 5: car and light a dart.
- 47:25Speaker 3: No, I know. Big picture.
- 47:28Speaker 6: What's the plan?
- 47:28Speaker 7: Because we've got a segment.
- 47:29Speaker 5: Oh, you mean what's the plan in terms of giving
- 47:31Speaker 5: up the dart?
- 47:31Speaker 7: Well, I reckon, I reckon, well, I'm starting on Monday.
- 47:34Speaker 7: Do you reckon you can join me doing it on Monday?
- 47:37Speaker 7: And I think the thing about it is it's also
- 47:40Speaker 7: like a sportsman's deal that we've been going for at
- 47:43Speaker 7: the moment, isn't it? It's an honour, you know, and
- 47:45Speaker 7: if you bugger out first and you look a bit
- 47:47Speaker 7: of a derb right and that's it. But maybe there
- 47:49Speaker 7: should be some steaks, you know, whether that's a nice
- 47:54Speaker 7: Chinese meal. A delicious, succulent Chinese meal.
- 47:57Speaker 5: Yeah, we could do that after we go out for
- 47:59Speaker 5: our Indian meal. Yes, yes.
- 48:01Speaker 3: Oh, because how about this?
- 48:02Speaker 12: Whoever loses, right, because you guys would hate this, you
- 48:04Speaker 12: have to take me out for a meal and you
- 48:06Speaker 12: have to pay for my meal.
- 48:07Speaker 7: Oh, no, you'd be coming anyway, Keezy. And Pugs.
- 48:09Speaker 3: Oh, okay, well, I'm happy with that.
- 48:10Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:11Speaker 6: Okay, so starting Monday.
- 48:12Speaker 7: Something like that. Or actually text us on 3483 about
- 48:15Speaker 7: what you think a good bet would be. Because we've
- 48:17Speaker 7: sort of run the food gauntlet. And yet we haven't
- 48:20Speaker 7: been out for dinner for probably nine months.
- 48:21Speaker 5: Yeah, that's true. That's true.
- 48:23Speaker 7: That's true, actually.
- 48:23Speaker 5: Yeah, but I'm happy to start again on Monday.
- 48:26Speaker 7: Okay, Monday.
- 48:27Speaker 12: Because we've got a segment called Durry Chat, and it
- 48:29Speaker 12: can't just be you guys coming on talking about how
- 48:31Speaker 12: much you've been smashing durries.
- 48:32Speaker 5: But listen, it's not this Monday.
- 48:35Speaker 7: Oh, okay.
- 48:36Speaker 3: Well, today's this Monday.
- 48:37Speaker 5: So next Monday.
- 48:38Speaker 7: The Monday coming up. Next Monday. And then the trouble is,
- 48:41Speaker 7: of course, then I get an email today from a mate,
- 48:45Speaker 7: and he's got his 50th on the 28th. And I'm like, oh.
- 48:50Speaker 7: You can do it, man. I believe in you, Mogey.
- 48:51Speaker 7: You're my hero. No, that's not going to get me
- 48:53Speaker 7: across the line, Keezy. So maybe. Oh, we'll see how
- 48:56Speaker 7: we go. Yeah, yeah.
- 48:57Speaker 3: I'm so confident in you.
- 49:01Speaker 7: Guys.
- 49:01Speaker 4: All that talk of gurries makes me want to have
- 49:02Speaker 4: one now.
- 49:03Speaker 7: Yeah, it's about the extent of it, Keezy, having blind faith,
- 49:07Speaker 7: unfounded faith as it's proven to be over the five
- 49:10Speaker 7: years that we've been doing the show, multiple attempts to
- 49:13Speaker 7: give up and zero success. Gave up for a year,
- 49:15Speaker 7: that was pretty good.
- 49:16Speaker 6: I feel like we could remake that sting quite easily,
- 49:18Speaker 6: but Vape Chat.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 49:20Speaker 9: Hoity J, because it's the same sort of... that you
- 49:23Speaker 9: do there on the.
- 49:24Speaker 3: It's a hell of a sting.
- 49:26Speaker 6: If you want to listen back to any of the
- 49:27Speaker 6: niche segments like that that we've done over the years,
- 49:30Speaker 6: search Hauraki Big Show wherever you get your podcasts from.
- 49:33Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike and Keezy. Tune
- 49:37Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 49:40Speaker 4: Nice.
- 49:40Speaker 6: That was Stone Temple Pilots on the Hauraki Big Show.
- 49:42Speaker 6: You got Pugs and Mogi here. With your chance to
- 49:45Speaker 6: get flown up to Tamaki Makaurau, including a hotel and tickets...
- 49:50Speaker 6: to one of the great golfing events in Aotearoa. Of course,
- 49:52Speaker 6: I'm talking about Kiwi Bank chasing the Fox. The whole
- 49:55Speaker 6: Hauraki team is going to be there. It's kind of
- 49:57Speaker 6: like it's close to an end-of-year party for us. It's
- 50:00Speaker 6: one of the later events for us in the calendar
- 50:03Speaker 6: year there, Mogi. And last time it was a ball,
- 50:05Speaker 6: we had the big show live from there, and we
- 50:08Speaker 6: got to get into some of the VIP areas as well.
- 50:10Speaker 6: But heaps of backbones just roaming around while watching a
- 50:13Speaker 6: bunch of great stars from Aotearoa chasing after Ryan Fox
- 50:17Speaker 6: and his playing partner Dan Hillier as well. That's going
- 50:20Speaker 6: to happen at Royal Auckland and Grange. You can get
- 50:24Speaker 6: in the draw for that by entering at hodaki.co.nz. Yes.
- 50:30Speaker 6: I'm excited for another round.
- 50:33Speaker 9: I don't think I'll play, but I'd like to have
- 50:34Speaker 9: a hit.
- 50:35Speaker 7: Yeah, right.
- 50:36Speaker 9: For somebody else.
- 50:36Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Like if somebody is far enough ahead
- 50:39Speaker 6: or they feel like they're doing okay and they're willing
- 50:41Speaker 6: to sacrifice a shot early on.
- 50:43Speaker 7: Yeah, but if I remember, it was that one where
- 50:45Speaker 7: everyone gets a shot um you don't have to you
- 50:49Speaker 7: know you just use the best shot i can't even
- 50:51Speaker 7: remember what that's called but it's a style of play
- 50:53Speaker 7: where you alternate and everybody gets a drive you take
- 50:56Speaker 7: the best one everyone gets you know so then perfect
- 50:58Speaker 7: yeah i think that's i think it's a great way
- 51:00Speaker 7: to do it and it's a hell of an event
- 51:01Speaker 7: it really is um beautiful course out there there's bars
- 51:04Speaker 7: all around the final hole yeah um live music there's
- 51:07Speaker 7: a dj there's an after event um it's bloody amazing
- 51:11Speaker 7: i think Have we been to two of them now,
- 51:13Speaker 7: I feel like?
- 51:14Speaker 5: Yes, we have.
- 51:14Speaker 7: And both times I've not been drinking. So I've sort
- 51:17Speaker 7: of finished up and then I've jumped in a car and,
- 51:19Speaker 7: oh no, I've got a vague memory now of grabbing
- 51:21Speaker 7: a handful of beers and jumping in an Uber.
- 51:24Speaker 6: Look, I'm sure I had my reasons. Yeah, I'm sure
- 51:26Speaker 6: you did as well. I mean, it's a beautiful day.
- 51:28Speaker 6: The sun's out by then. We're getting into summer territory
- 51:31Speaker 6: and it's a sunblock sort of a day. So get
- 51:34Speaker 6: around it. Come and join us and have a great time.
- 51:36Speaker 6: You can enter at horaki.co.nz for your chance to.
- 51:40Speaker 3: Be flowing to the Fox.
- 51:43Speaker 6: You like Lenny Kravitz, man?
- 51:45Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 51:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I just put my neck out just bobbing my head.
- 51:49Speaker 6: Headbanging to Lenny Kravitz.
- 51:50Speaker 7: I think I'm 15. I wasn't even headbanging. I was bobbing.
- 51:53Speaker 7: I was bobbing my head.
- 51:55Speaker 6: Are you going to go my way on the Hauraki
- 51:56Speaker 6: Big Show?
- 51:57Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show. Weekdays from 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 52:02Speaker 6: Who let woke boy in?
- 52:05Speaker 5: It's next week.
- 52:08Speaker 6: Weta on the Hauraki Big Show, you're here with Pugs
- 52:10Speaker 6: and Moge. Yeah, huge tune.
- 52:12Speaker 7: Great to hear from them. Probably my favourite New Zealand album,
- 52:15Speaker 7: that one, I think, Geographica.
- 52:17Speaker 6: That would be a great one for songs from a
- 52:19Speaker 6: band that I like.
- 52:19Speaker 7: Actually, you're absolutely right. I buggered that up. There'd be
- 52:23Speaker 7: eight songs off that album I could play. We never
- 52:25Speaker 7: play them.
- 52:26Speaker 6: No.
- 52:26Speaker 7: They're unbelievable.
- 52:27Speaker 9: So it's great to hear it.
- 52:29Speaker 7: If you've never heard of Weta, grab that album and
- 52:34Speaker 7: thrash that bastard because it's an absolute ripper. Back in
- 52:36Speaker 7: the day, I can't even remember what year it was,
- 52:39Speaker 7: whether it was 99 or early 2000s, they won best
- 52:42Speaker 7: new album, best rock album, best newcomer, something like that.
- 52:47Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah.
- 52:47Speaker 7: Something along those lines. And then they went over to
- 52:49Speaker 7: Melbourne to record their follow-up album and then they broke up. Wow.
- 52:54Speaker 7: And that was the end of that.
- 52:55Speaker 6: Massive impact on a short space of time.
- 52:57Speaker 7: Huge.
- 52:57Speaker 6: There also isn't really anything like them either.
- 53:00Speaker 7: Also, actually, they had, because Aaron, the lead singer and
- 53:03Speaker 7: the main songwriter, it was him and his brother. Yeah.
- 53:06Speaker 7: Do you remember we had a band that came in?
- 53:08Speaker 7: He was at Spiderbait. No, it was Super Jesus came
- 53:11Speaker 7: in here.
- 53:11Speaker 5: Yes.
- 53:12Speaker 7: And they were in New Zealand, and Aaron was playing
- 53:15Speaker 7: with them as sort of a session guitarist, and they
- 53:17Speaker 7: sort of had a chat amongst themselves. They were like,
- 53:19Speaker 7: this guy's out the gate.
- 53:20Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 53:21Speaker 7: Should we offer him a place in the band? Super
- 53:23Speaker 7: Jesus from Australia, which at that stage was going bloody
- 53:25Speaker 7: great guns. And they hit him up. They said, look, man,
- 53:29Speaker 7: I just want to sit you down here and have
- 53:30Speaker 7: a chat about this. Wondered if you'd like to. We
- 53:32Speaker 7: think you're incredible. Would you like to join the band?
- 53:34Speaker 7: He was like, nah, I'm all good. So that was that.
- 53:38Speaker 6: Well, I mean, hearing the difference between Weta and Super Jesus.
- 53:42Speaker 7: Oh, yeah, 100%. But, you know, at that stage, he
- 53:44Speaker 7: wasn't in Weta. Yeah, yeah, yeah. He could have done
- 53:47Speaker 7: some work, maybe. But he is a pretty unique dude.
- 53:49Speaker 7: Of course, he's passed away now. A pretty amazing musician
- 53:54Speaker 7: and individual. So sad loss, but. Yeah, get involved in
- 53:58Speaker 7: that album, Geographica by Weta.
- 54:00Speaker 6: Absolutely. Now, Mogi, getting into the end of Woke Boy
- 54:04Speaker 6: and the.
- 54:04Speaker 7: Truth, man. I started banging on, didn't I?
- 54:06Speaker 6: No, don't apologise. It's great chat. We're heading into your birthday.
- 54:10Speaker 6: It's your birthday weekend. Sorry, you had your birthday the
- 54:12Speaker 6: other day. It's your Friday. You've got a big weekend
- 54:15Speaker 6: planned from what I understand.
- 54:16Speaker 7: Well, it is pretty big. It's pretty big. My wife
- 54:18Speaker 7: just arrived. She's been away for two weeks, and then
- 54:23Speaker 7: tonight we've got the rugby league, so I've got a
- 54:24Speaker 7: couple of mates coming over for that. But then tomorrow
- 54:27Speaker 7: is more the day that I want to enjoy because
- 54:29Speaker 7: I've taken the day off.
- 54:30Speaker 6: Yeah, because your whole family's here.
- 54:32Speaker 7: Yeah, so I'm not doing tonight so that I can
- 54:34Speaker 7: have a hungover day tomorrow. I'm having tomorrow so that
- 54:37Speaker 7: while my daughter's at school, my wife and I can
- 54:40Speaker 7: go out for a long lunch and then meet up
- 54:42Speaker 7: with some mates later. So that's the plan at this stage.
- 54:47Speaker 7: Guess what's going to happen. Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 54:49Speaker 6: There's a reason I play Dari Shadow. I like your plan.
- 54:52Speaker 6: I like your style. You're thinking ahead. It's great to
- 54:54Speaker 6: have the whole family together as well to celebrate you
- 54:57Speaker 6: for your birthday. I hope you have a bloody good.
- 54:58Speaker 11: One, man.
- 54:59Speaker 7: Oh, thanks, babes.
- 55:00Speaker 6: Hey, any time. Hey.
- 55:02Speaker 2: The Hauraki Big Show with Jase, Mike, and Keezy. Tune
- 55:05Speaker 2: in weekdays at 4 on Radio Hauraki.
- 55:14Speaker 7: <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL> <HAL>
- 55:25Speaker 7: There we have it, man.
- 55:26Speaker 6: That's it.
- 55:27Speaker 7: That's it. That's the end of old Wokeboy and the Truth. Pugsan, myself.
- 55:34Speaker 7: It's been bloody good. I've really enjoyed it. I've really
- 55:36Speaker 7: enjoyed it too. Different sort of chats. Nice to have
- 55:39Speaker 7: some more music in there. Some good interviews. Really enjoyed it.
- 55:42Speaker 7: Of course, Keezy and Jase will be back on Monday.
- 55:45Speaker 7: I'm taking tomorrow off because I've got a long weekend
- 55:48Speaker 7: with the whanau. And tonight I'll be watching the opening
- 55:50Speaker 7: game of the Rugby League World Cup. It's on at
- 55:53Speaker 7: 10pm kick-off. Try not to miss it. What have you
- 55:54Speaker 7: got planned, man?
- 55:56Speaker 6: Well, tomorrow I will be doing another best-of show just
- 55:59Speaker 6: here solo. So there'll be a heap more best bits
- 56:02Speaker 6: because I'll have nobody to talk to.
- 56:05Speaker 9: So I'll just be loading it up with heaps of
- 56:07Speaker 9: stuff from the archives.
- 56:08Speaker 6: So get around that. That'll be tomorrow from four as
- 56:10Speaker 6: per usual. And then this weekend I've planned to take
- 56:14Speaker 6: my partner out on a lunch date.
- 56:16Speaker 8: Oh, yeah.
- 56:17Speaker 9: Because she's busy Saturday night.
- 56:18Speaker 7: Right.
- 56:19Speaker 6: She's gone to a gig. So I thought, why don't
- 56:20Speaker 6: I do like a lunch thing? lunch is a great
- 56:23Speaker 6: deal I've never really got around that so I hope
- 56:25Speaker 6: the idea is I'll get some stuff for mimosas for
- 56:28Speaker 6: late morning then we'll go to lunch it's over and
- 56:32Speaker 6: then maybe we'll go do an activity which I won't
- 56:34Speaker 6: say just in case she's listening yeah and then she'll
- 56:38Speaker 6: be just flying into the pre-drinks for her gig later
- 56:41Speaker 6: on in the day so that'll be fun that'll be
- 56:42Speaker 6: Saturday and then I might go to a gig that
- 56:44Speaker 6: night Sunday quite like to go to a market or
- 56:46Speaker 6: something but also I have barely been home the last
- 56:49Speaker 6: like two weeks house sitting for Jay he's gone to
- 56:51Speaker 6: Rotorua so And actually quite just like a day of
- 56:53Speaker 6: just being a piece of shit at home.
- 56:55Speaker 7: Good on you, man.
- 56:56Speaker 6: So in the meantime, another disclaimer podcast out tonight, this
- 57:01Speaker 6: week in 2025.
- 57:03Speaker 9: So last year. And also big shout out to Big Dilly.
- 57:06Speaker 6: He's been looking after us for the last two weeks
- 57:09Speaker 6: on top of his usual job of running the digital
- 57:12Speaker 6: ship here at Hauraki.
- 57:13Speaker 5: Bloody good, mate.
- 57:14Speaker 6: Bloody good on you, mate. So in the meantime, check
- 57:17Speaker 6: out the podcast, 7.30pm tonight. If you missed anything on
- 57:20Speaker 6: this show... And in the meantime, I'll see you tomorrow,
- 57:23Speaker 6: just me. It's been Woke Boy and the Truth on
- 57:27Speaker 6: the Hauraki Big Show.
- 57:28Speaker 7: See ya. Good on yous.
