- 0:05Speaker 1: On its Hi, welcome back the book watchers. I don't

- 0:30Speaker 1: but there'll be something something there, like.
- 0:35Speaker 2: Are where the you know, our our Welsh listeners episodes
- 0:42Speaker 2: for you guys.
- 0:43Speaker 1: Ladies, gentlemen and others. He wants a British or a
- 0:46Speaker 1: welsh Man. He wants a man from an island off
- 0:50Speaker 1: the coast of Europe over the pond.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I want. What I want is a man that's not
- 0:56Speaker 2: a gutter goblin from San Antonio, because most of the
- 0:58Speaker 2: men here are just trash. And if you coming and
- 1:02Speaker 2: if you're listening in from sanatoi.
- 1:06Speaker 1: O can buy a gutter goblin himself.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Get out of here. You know me? You know I'm
- 1:15Speaker 2: a treasure. Yeah, maybe a curse treasure, but treasure on
- 1:21Speaker 2: the last I mean.
- 1:22Speaker 1: No, I am a treasure. You're a curse. I'm a treasure.
- 1:29Speaker 2: In what world are you a treasure? You can't be
- 1:32Speaker 2: a catch and a treasure.
- 1:33Speaker 1: I'm both, babe, I'm a catch and a treasure. I'm
- 1:38Speaker 1: an amazing person that when you wake up in the
- 1:40Speaker 1: morning you're like, oh my god, I am so glad
- 1:43Speaker 1: I know this person.
- 1:46Speaker 2: So anyway, Welcome back to book watchers. If you tuned
- 1:50Speaker 2: in last week for last week's recording, we told you
- 1:53Speaker 2: all that we now got a sponsorship for Audible. Yeah
- 2:00Speaker 2: I knew it. And though we say last week, we
- 2:04Speaker 2: literally just finished recording that episode like twenty minutes ago
- 2:07Speaker 2: and now we're starting on the next episode. So last
- 2:10Speaker 2: week for y'all, it's the same day for us. Look,
- 2:13Speaker 2: I'm still We're still wearing the same shit.
- 2:16Speaker 1: Because I don't wear this shirt as my boom around
- 2:18Speaker 1: shirt as I do. I wear this is my shirt
- 2:21Speaker 1: a lot I do cause it's big, it's comfy.
- 2:23Speaker 2: We Oh, this one's old. I've had this one since
- 2:28Speaker 2: high school.
- 2:29Speaker 1: This one, this shirt's too damn big because I can't
- 2:31Speaker 1: wear it outside. It's too big. But I'm like, it's comfying.
- 2:35Speaker 1: So here we are again sponsored by Audible.
- 2:41Speaker 2: Click on that link down below. Guys, support us. We
- 2:45Speaker 2: want to do that. We would rather be doing this
- 2:47Speaker 2: full time than working in customer service like I do.
- 2:51Speaker 1: God, I'm not please help us.
- 2:53Speaker 2: Please please no, but for real, please please begging aside
- 2:58Speaker 2: for real, guys, uh, please support us. Yes, we we
- 3:03Speaker 2: love doing this. We're on like I'm on two podcasts
- 3:07Speaker 2: under neon Ic Void, and Devin is on all of
- 3:10Speaker 2: them because this is his this is his child, my baby,
- 3:14Speaker 2: Void Productions is his baby. Okay, though he has many
- 3:18Speaker 2: co hosts, you could definitely say Devin gets around.
- 3:27Speaker 1: It's uh huh.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Anyway, but the Book Watchers is our baby. Yes, I
- 3:37Speaker 2: was the one who suggested this. He was like, I
- 3:41Speaker 2: was like, I've always thought like when he when he
- 3:44Speaker 2: started telling me that, yeah, he's doing more podcasts with
- 3:46Speaker 2: other people, like Tea of the Gods is one of
- 3:48Speaker 2: the first, and he wanted he wanted to look he
- 3:52Speaker 2: was looking to do a couple more at the time,
- 3:53Speaker 2: and I thought like, hey, I got an idea of books,
- 3:56Speaker 2: like I like, I love reading books, I read them
- 3:58Speaker 2: almost religiously and and I like to talk about them,
- 4:05Speaker 2: but like one. But I wanted to come up with
- 4:07Speaker 2: a more specific theme for a book podcast, so I thought,
- 4:11Speaker 2: why not books that have been adapted into movies. Since then,
- 4:14Speaker 2: we've read, we've discussed like about a dozen movies movies
- 4:19Speaker 2: that have been at books that have been adapted into movies,
- 4:21Speaker 2: Lord of the Rings, Dune, Aragon, we did, Percy Jackson,
- 4:28Speaker 2: Did we do Percy Jackson?
- 4:29Speaker 1: Olympians we did.
- 4:30Speaker 2: We breezed through that. Yeah, yeah, we breathed through that.
- 4:35Speaker 2: And like, I'm not gonna lie, I barely remember doing
- 4:39Speaker 2: it because at that time I was it was a
- 4:42Speaker 2: really stressful time for a movie when we did it,
- 4:44Speaker 2: so like I was just kind of like on autopilot
- 4:46Speaker 2: when we were doing it. But they were all great stories.
- 4:49Speaker 2: We have others that we're gonna be doing. I mean
- 4:51Speaker 2: right now doing The Wheel of Time and then these
- 4:54Speaker 2: while I finish up that stort those stories. Devin has
- 4:58Speaker 2: a few books that he wants to and you know,
- 5:02Speaker 2: for the first two years that we've been doing book Watchers,
- 5:04Speaker 2: it was mainly me talking about the books. But now
- 5:06Speaker 2: like I'm trying to push for Devin to do more
- 5:09Speaker 2: because I can be the only one that you guys
- 5:11Speaker 2: listen ramble on about books, movie and graphic novels. We've
- 5:16Speaker 2: already done Thirty Days of Night, so we're not just
- 5:19Speaker 2: doing books now, we're doing graphic novels, We're doing comics,
- 5:24Speaker 2: and I'm hoping to expand other books too. I'm just
- 5:27Speaker 2: trying to come up with more ideas because I'm not
- 5:30Speaker 2: gonna lie. I'm starting to run out of I'm starting
- 5:32Speaker 2: to run out of ideas of what books to read
- 5:35Speaker 2: and talk about, mainly because like a lot of the
- 5:37Speaker 2: books that we've talked about have been books that I've
- 5:39Speaker 2: read in the past, that I've already read in the past,
- 5:43Speaker 2: which was a pretty long as if you kept up
- 5:46Speaker 2: with us this entire time, it's a decent list. It's
- 5:50Speaker 2: a long list, all right. So we'd love to keep
- 5:55Speaker 2: doing this and maybe in the future if we're able
- 5:59Speaker 2: to completely like get more sponsors, get more sponsorship, and
- 6:03Speaker 2: just completely do this full time. Like I've been pushing,
- 6:06Speaker 2: Like I've been thinking where if we're gonna make this
- 6:09Speaker 2: into a full like YouTube, like a hybrid YouTube podcast,
- 6:13Speaker 2: uh Spotify podcast or like what are the other platforms
- 6:17Speaker 2: that we post this on? Like it's Spotify.
- 6:20Speaker 1: YouTube, Spotify YouTube, but Amazon, I think Apple podcasts, iHeartRadio.
- 6:33Speaker 1: There's a list, yeah.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, so we got a good list. We got
- 6:39Speaker 2: a good list going on, and you know, I want
- 6:41Speaker 2: to be I want to be able to set up
- 6:43Speaker 2: in a decent like a good studio space so we
- 6:47Speaker 2: can uh you look more legit honestly, like that futon
- 6:52Speaker 2: behind Devin is where I where I'm pushing for us
- 6:54Speaker 2: to start recording.
- 6:57Speaker 1: You can.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Yeah, we just need to get we want to be
- 7:02Speaker 2: able to The thing is though, is that like we
- 7:07Speaker 2: both got lives and unfortunately we can't commit as much
- 7:13Speaker 2: time to the this podcast as we'd like, and well
- 7:19Speaker 2: I can't right as of right now, I can't. But
- 7:25Speaker 2: we would love to be able to do this full
- 7:27Speaker 2: time for you guys, put put out more content content.
- 7:32Speaker 2: And this even comes down to the other the other
- 7:35Speaker 2: D and D pod, the other podcast, the D and
- 7:37Speaker 2: D podcast book Acalyps. Devin wants to get Tea of
- 7:41Speaker 2: the Gods back up and running again, and if y'all
- 7:46Speaker 2: support us, we can. If you can support us, this
- 7:50Speaker 2: is the starting point. This is probably this is literally
- 7:52Speaker 2: the first podcast we got a sponsorship on, right.
- 7:57Speaker 1: Yeah, this is the I mean the other shows have
- 8:00Speaker 1: also the sponsors going on all the other shows as well,
- 8:04Speaker 1: so but yeah, I know, this is the first one
- 8:06Speaker 1: that we that we've gotten since we started with Audible.
- 8:11Speaker 3: Yeah, which I'm likely if Audible likes us, If Audible
- 8:16Speaker 3: likes us, if you guys keep clicking that link, you
- 8:19Speaker 3: know it's a it's a fourteen day trial, plus you
- 8:21Speaker 3: get a free book.
- 8:22Speaker 1: It's a thirty day trial.
- 8:23Speaker 2: So thirty day I'm sorry you put that part up.
- 8:29Speaker 2: It's a thirty day trial and you get a free book,
- 8:32Speaker 2: and you get a free book.
- 8:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 8:34Speaker 2: So if you love reading as much as we do,
- 8:35Speaker 2: if you love Audible, you know, take advantage, all right,
- 8:41Speaker 2: take advantage of us.
- 8:43Speaker 1: My god kidding, oh my god. But before weekend in
- 8:48Speaker 1: today's episode, if you look into link link description below
- 8:51Speaker 1: below the Audible link you see there, you know you'll
- 8:53Speaker 1: see the link tree link to all the other podcasts
- 8:57Speaker 1: of Neonoid Productions and the YouTube if you want to
- 9:01Speaker 1: listen to some D and D, some Tea of the Gods,
- 9:03Speaker 1: some House of Ideas for Come for More, since your Round,
- 9:07Speaker 1: super Hero comics, or if you want to go listen
- 9:09Speaker 1: to past episodes of the book watchers, see what we
- 9:12Speaker 1: all talked, what Jacob Ball talked about, and what I've
- 9:14Speaker 1: talked about so far. All that would be in a
- 9:17Speaker 1: description below, as well as YouTube channel subscribe because been
- 9:21Speaker 1: getting a lot of listens on YouTube as of like
- 9:24Speaker 1: like the viewers, if you the view count on YouTube
- 9:29Speaker 1: has been pretty decent. So I mean there's small like
- 9:33Speaker 1: twenty or thirty certain episodes, but like hey, it's a start.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It's going somewhere, so yes, help us out. Subscribe. Listen
- 9:42Speaker 1: to the episodes of Friends Your Friends say Mom, tell
- 9:46Speaker 1: your grandma, Tell your dad. Now, yeah, tell your dad,
- 9:51Speaker 1: tell your dad, tell your brother, tell your boyfriend to your.
- 9:55Speaker 4: Girlfriend, tell the hub about down the street. All were welcome, exactly, exactly.
- 10:03Speaker 4: Hell yeah, so the more the merrier.
- 10:06Speaker 2: So without further ado, sit back, relax and listen to
- 10:10Speaker 2: a couple of autistic energy Wow, gout that part out.
- 10:18Speaker 2: Just sit back, relax. Listen to a couple of eggheads
- 10:24Speaker 2: ramble on about books.
- 10:26Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, so so today I believe in you. So
- 10:37Speaker 1: today I am going to talk about another book. This
- 10:40Speaker 1: is a book, Well, how do I put it? This
- 10:45Speaker 1: is the first book of a little series that has
- 10:47Speaker 1: two books in it currently. Next week I'm gonna talk
- 10:49Speaker 1: about the sequel to this, but I'm talking about What
- 10:52Speaker 1: Moves the Dead by T. Kingfisher. T King Fisher is
- 10:58Speaker 1: a pen name for the author Ursula Vernon Vernon I
- 11:09Speaker 1: remember not your name. I am so sorry again, I'm
- 11:11Speaker 1: just lexic. But it's a pen name for T. King Fisher.
- 11:18Speaker 1: She has written. She has a bunch of different she
- 11:21Speaker 1: has a few different I think she has a few
- 11:24Speaker 1: different pen names, but she writes a lot of fantasy series.
- 11:28Speaker 1: Of course, this series, which is more horror centric and
- 11:33Speaker 1: mostly fantasy books it looks like and then some web comics,
- 11:37Speaker 1: but pretty much it's like there. This is her horror
- 11:40Speaker 1: series that she writes as T. J. Fisher or T
- 11:43Speaker 1: t J. Fisher t Kingfisher. So What Moves the Dead
- 11:48Speaker 1: is a short story that is based on the idea
- 11:52Speaker 1: of the story of the Fall of the House Elector
- 11:55Speaker 1: from Atgar Allan Poe. This is a retailer of that
- 12:00Speaker 1: story in a very weird, roundabout way. If you and
- 12:05Speaker 1: this is gonna be a trigger warning, if you find
- 12:08Speaker 1: fungus creepy or terrifying in any way, this book might
- 12:14Speaker 1: not be for you, babe. Let me tell you.
- 12:18Speaker 2: Yeah, if you gainst some of the Last of Us
- 12:20Speaker 2: TV show on HBO, Max I'm sorry, Max, Max, Yeah,
- 12:26Speaker 2: Or if you can't stomach those games, this yeah the
- 12:28Speaker 2: book for you.
- 12:29Speaker 1: No, it's most certainly not, because the Body Horror is
- 12:31Speaker 1: dealing with fungus and it's a kind of gross. So
- 12:36Speaker 1: the first book of a series known as God What
- 12:40Speaker 1: the What? What does she call? This series? The Swan
- 12:47Speaker 1: not Swan the Sworn Soldiers Sworn Soldier books because it
- 12:52Speaker 1: follows a character through both these books What Moves the
- 12:58Speaker 1: Dead and What Feasts That it's all about the same character.
- 13:03Speaker 1: His name or They're sorry. Their name is Alex Easton
- 13:08Speaker 1: Easton and he is or sorry. They they are formerly
- 13:13Speaker 1: part of the of the Oh God. How did they
- 13:17Speaker 1: pronounce the country Galatian? It's a they. I think this
- 13:23Speaker 1: country is a made up Eastern European country. But this guy, Alex,
- 13:29Speaker 1: this person Alex was a soldier in the Galatian army.
- 13:35Speaker 1: And and they received word that their childhood friend Madeline
- 13:42Speaker 1: Usher is currently dying lauren deathbed. So they travel to
- 13:48Speaker 1: the Usher's house and they find that the place is
- 13:54Speaker 1: in disrepair, surrounded by this dark darkness, fungus, something evil, unsettling.
- 14:04Speaker 1: It's very unsettling. We pull it, peers up like you
- 14:07Speaker 1: see it. You see signs of these weird fungus looking
- 14:11Speaker 1: things running about, and they see like, oh god, you
- 14:16Speaker 1: see or they see animals that have like fungus growing
- 14:19Speaker 1: up with There's one the cover of the book is
- 14:20Speaker 1: a rabbit that has its fungus growing out of it.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And you actually see that in the book where they
- 14:27Speaker 1: see ah fungus growing out of a rabbit and they're
- 14:31Speaker 1: not in the rabbits acting very sporadically. So throughout this
- 14:35Speaker 1: whole book kind of gives you a hint of like,
- 14:39Speaker 1: something's wrong with this fungus that doesn't that doesn't seem
- 14:44Speaker 1: right like the rabbits in particular, it's like something's wrong
- 14:48Speaker 1: with the rabbits. They run around very frantically, almost like
- 14:52Speaker 1: a chicken with its head cut off. You're just like
- 14:55Speaker 1: side Eye should be be concerned because obviously in real
- 15:00Speaker 1: world fungi doesn't take over brains of creatures outside of
- 15:05Speaker 1: like bugs, because you do have fung guy that take
- 15:08Speaker 1: over ants brain brain of an ant to spread it
- 15:11Speaker 1: spores to other ants to continue spreading. So this is
- 15:14Speaker 1: kind of.
- 15:15Speaker 2: Because there's a reason for that too, because it's the
- 15:19Speaker 2: heat Cordyceps. And there's a couple other uh miicilian species
- 15:25Speaker 2: that uh that also infect bodies the bodies of insects
- 15:33Speaker 2: and cause them to exhibit like zombie like tendencies. Yeah,
- 15:38Speaker 2: but these fungus, they they need a specific they can
- 15:42Speaker 2: only cultivate in specific uh temperatures. Yea, And yeah, and
- 15:47Speaker 2: the thing about human like mammals or like warm blooded animals,
- 15:52Speaker 2: is that our body heat is too hostile for them,
- 15:56Speaker 2: so they can't properly grow. So the thing is so
- 16:00Speaker 2: like people. That's the trend though. It is like people
- 16:02Speaker 2: are afraid that these fungus will mutate to survive in
- 16:06Speaker 2: higher temperatures and allow them to like infect human hosts.
- 16:12Speaker 2: I mean, there are fungus that can survive, that can
- 16:16Speaker 2: survive in humans, but they're for now, thank god, like that,
- 16:20Speaker 2: and they're not cordyceps or other.
- 16:24Speaker 1: I mean, if funga, if zombies are gonna happen, it's
- 16:27Speaker 1: not gonna be the normal zombies. It's gonna be the
- 16:29Speaker 1: fun guy, the corseps. They're going to do it.
- 16:32Speaker 2: If I had anything, if we're talking like if we're
- 16:35Speaker 2: talking like the Walking Dead, then definitely. But if we're
- 16:38Speaker 2: talking like infected people losing their minds and it's hacking
- 16:41Speaker 2: other people twenty eight days, twenty eight weeks later.
- 16:45Speaker 1: But I'd be like fung guy instead of a Rabi's
- 16:50Speaker 1: rage virus or whatever.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Well, no, I'm talking about like because those weren't zombies.
- 16:55Speaker 2: Those were like infected.
- 16:57Speaker 1: People with the other they were Yeah, they were infected
- 16:59Speaker 1: with like a.
- 17:00Speaker 2: It would yeah, and that's actually more plausible because like
- 17:05Speaker 2: rabies does cause animals to act very aggressively and when
- 17:10Speaker 2: they bite you, you get infected. But the thing about rabies,
- 17:13Speaker 2: thank god, is that it's curable.
- 17:17Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, so that's why if you get bit by
- 17:22Speaker 1: an animal, ladies and gents, please get yourself checked out
- 17:24Speaker 1: a SAP.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Get that Raby's virus, get that Raby's shot.
- 17:31Speaker 1: But yeah, so something's wrong with the life here, plant life, fungui.
- 17:36Speaker 1: It just that the the property looks very uncapped and
- 17:39Speaker 1: very just like ew, this is weird, this is creepy.
- 17:44Speaker 1: And Roderick Usher, which is Madeline's twin brother, Oh god,
- 17:56Speaker 1: I loves my trand thought Robert Roderick And okay, so
- 18:10Speaker 1: there we got my train of thought back. I was like,
- 18:14Speaker 1: what my brain? So my line is twin brother Roderick
- 18:19Speaker 1: has been very fearful that of course his sister has
- 18:22Speaker 1: been very frail these last couple of years in the book,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and that she is terminally ill, suffering from cat collapsia
- 18:35Speaker 1: collopsia collapsia. It's a muscle. Oh, I think this is
- 18:45Speaker 1: a when you're what how lots of muscle control. Oh,
- 18:52Speaker 1: this is a I think catalepsy callpsy, which is basically
- 18:58Speaker 1: a neudological condition where your muscles lay all about on
- 19:04Speaker 1: their own or they get stuck in the same position. Basically,
- 19:09Speaker 1: she her body kind of just like freezes up or
- 19:11Speaker 1: she has she doesn't have control of her limbs and stuff,
- 19:15Speaker 1: and eventually that will kill you. So she has that,
- 19:19Speaker 1: and she appears basically like skin and bones. She's on
- 19:27Speaker 1: her last legs. Basically, she's on she's on the death doorstep.
- 19:32Speaker 1: And Alex is disturbed by the appearance of Madeline. Madeline
- 19:38Speaker 1: who's like thin, wispy, wispy like white hair coming from
- 19:42Speaker 1: her hair on her arms. Keep note of that wispy
- 19:48Speaker 1: white hair on her arms. It also present, uh is
- 19:55Speaker 1: a miss Potter who's a micrologist. She loves fun guy.
- 20:00Speaker 1: And then of course there's an American doctor named James Denton,
- 20:04Speaker 1: an Agnes, a person named Agnes, which is which is
- 20:10Speaker 1: another soldier that came with Alex. It's his quote unquote,
- 20:13Speaker 1: his batman quote unquote. So it's a fellow soldier of
- 20:17Speaker 1: his that came with him or theirs that came with them.
- 20:20Speaker 1: They tried to evince Madeline to leave the mansion that
- 20:24Speaker 1: is falling apart and decaying, it seems at the seams,
- 20:27Speaker 1: for her own health. But she refuses to leave. So
- 20:32Speaker 1: they're like, girl, you need to leave. You need to
- 20:34Speaker 1: be in a better situation than this. She's like, I refuse,
- 20:36Speaker 1: I rely, I at wanna, so she doesn't. Alex, of course,
- 20:42Speaker 1: then starts noticing the hairs, the rabbit's hair, rabbit, whatever
- 20:49Speaker 1: term you go buy. They start they're behaving oddly, of course,
- 20:55Speaker 1: with the fun guy and stuff, and they are infected
- 20:58Speaker 1: with an unknown disease. And then they all start seeing
- 21:03Speaker 1: strange lights moving in the tarn, which a tarn is
- 21:08Speaker 1: a a mountain, lake, a pond, a pool of water.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So in this tarn you start seeing these weird hairs
- 21:20Speaker 1: behaving weirdly near it, and lights moving around in the
- 21:25Speaker 1: tarn in this little body of pool of water. It's
- 21:28Speaker 1: basically everything's pointing to that little pool of water. Something's
- 21:31Speaker 1: off with that, something's not right about that water there.
- 21:36Speaker 1: Madeline then starts beginning, begins to start sleepwalking in the
- 21:40Speaker 1: middle of the night, and she keeps talking about and
- 21:45Speaker 1: reminding Alex of the hairs as something's wrong with the hairs.
- 21:49Speaker 1: Over and over again. Alex then tells Madeline that the
- 21:55Speaker 1: hairs have the same millenness as well. She mentions and
- 21:59Speaker 1: that the hairs the rabbits still have the same millness
- 22:02Speaker 1: as she does. And of course he's just like, Alex
- 22:06Speaker 1: is like, what the fuck what's going on here? So
- 22:08Speaker 1: he's still trying to figure out what the fuck is
- 22:11Speaker 1: going on with her. Then they decided to go out
- 22:14Speaker 1: there and shoot a hair and they attempt to dissect it.
- 22:18Speaker 1: When they dissect the dead hair, it begins to crawl away,
- 22:25Speaker 1: is dead carcass. And terrified, he flees back to the
- 22:31Speaker 1: mansion from the dead carcass of the hair that he
- 22:35Speaker 1: left us, still crawling away. You're like, a what from there?
- 22:43Speaker 1: Along this creepy stuff and Madeline just walking, sleep walking,
- 22:46Speaker 1: talking in her sleep. She talks to something that's not there.
- 22:51Speaker 1: That's another thing that she's been doing. She's been talking
- 22:52Speaker 1: to herself like she's having a conversation with something or
- 22:55Speaker 1: somebody that isn't there. And when he gets back from
- 22:58Speaker 1: the this from when they were trying to cut open
- 23:01Speaker 1: the rabbit, see what the hell is going on?
- 23:03Speaker 2: Uh?
- 23:04Speaker 1: Madeline dies and they moved her body to the crypt
- 23:08Speaker 1: and the mansion and this old mansion, and her brother
- 23:13Speaker 1: claims to hear her knocking on the doors of the crypt,
- 23:17Speaker 1: like she's so alive, trying to get out. So Alex
- 23:21Speaker 1: visits Madeline's grave and finds that her neck is broken. Potter,
- 23:30Speaker 1: miss Potter, induces that the chances of Madeleine's hair the
- 23:34Speaker 1: traces of Madeleine's hair, so throughout the place he's been
- 23:38Speaker 1: seeing this white hair everywhere. And miss Potter, who's a
- 23:43Speaker 1: microhos who loves fungus, was looking at this hair and
- 23:47Speaker 1: I'm like, this is fungus. They're like, what do you
- 23:51Speaker 1: mean this is hair, This is from Madeleine. Madeline like, no,
- 23:55Speaker 1: this is fungus. They're like, uh what They're like they
- 24:01Speaker 1: come to the realization that this is fungus. This white
- 24:04Speaker 1: hair is fungus. So Alex brings her to examine the
- 24:08Speaker 1: body of his dead friend or their dead friend. But
- 24:13Speaker 1: then it vanishes. When they get there, it's gone. The
- 24:17Speaker 1: body's gone. Madeline's twin brother, Roderick, is sleeping, and then
- 24:26Speaker 1: the others dice. Of course, they continue to dissect the hair,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the hair that they killed when they were crawling crawling away,
- 24:35Speaker 1: they I think Agnes came, took the body of the hair,
- 24:38Speaker 1: brought it and brought it to ms Potter. Ms Potter
- 24:41Speaker 1: cuts open the hair. The hair is full of fungus.
- 24:46Speaker 1: All his organs, all his enters is all fungus. And
- 24:51Speaker 1: I'm just like you know. So the fungus has spread
- 24:53Speaker 1: throughout the body of this hair and basically kind of
- 24:56Speaker 1: moving on like a puppet. So again, if you hate fungus,
- 25:02Speaker 1: you're who you're gonna hate this part.
- 25:05Speaker 5: So the the carcass continues to move on its own,
- 25:15Speaker 5: controlled by they as seem to be controlled by the fungus, which,
- 25:20Speaker 5: if I remember Girkly she describes them that there's like's
- 25:23Speaker 5: have a cortucept, because of course it is.
- 25:27Speaker 1: But they're in Europe, in Eastern Europe, no less, so
- 25:30Speaker 1: this fungus, says here, is quite weird. Apparently, it turns
- 25:41Speaker 1: out Roderick killed Madeline, his sister is twin sister, believing
- 25:46Speaker 1: her to be possessed, so he killed her. He stapped
- 25:49Speaker 1: her neck. They entered Roderick's bedroom to find to try
- 25:54Speaker 1: to confront him about it, and they find Madeline is
- 25:56Speaker 1: sitting on his bed. Her neck is in a very
- 26:04Speaker 1: shocking angle like, it's like, obviously it's broken. Sorry, and
- 26:08Speaker 1: I was like, as she's just sitting on the edge
- 26:11Speaker 1: of the bed, and Madeline tells them that she has
- 26:15Speaker 1: been dead for at least a month and the fungus
- 26:22Speaker 1: from the body of water has reanimated her body, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: she tells them, she tells Alex that the tarn is
- 26:36Speaker 1: conscious and sentient, so she's been communicating with the fungus
- 26:40Speaker 1: in her body. So that's who she's been talking to
- 26:45Speaker 1: throughout the whole book. Is when she's talking to herself,
- 26:47Speaker 1: she's talking to the fungus. It's inside of her body,
- 26:49Speaker 1: it's in her head, and the fungus is learning how
- 26:54Speaker 1: to communicate with them, So she's teaching the fungus how
- 26:58Speaker 1: to communicate from there. She asks Alex to let it
- 27:06Speaker 1: infect them, giving them a home after her corpse breaks down,
- 27:11Speaker 1: because obviously eventually her corpse is going to rot and
- 27:15Speaker 1: the court set the fungus needs a new home. So
- 27:18Speaker 1: she's like, hey, can you take the take the fungus
- 27:21Speaker 1: from my body when I wither away? And he's like, uh,
- 27:24Speaker 1: I don't think so, so Alex, I don't think so,
- 27:30Speaker 1: so her brother, and so Alex gets her brother gets
- 27:36Speaker 1: her twin brother and they leave the fucking house. Well,
- 27:39Speaker 1: actually they try to leave the house, but her twin
- 27:42Speaker 1: brother refuses to leave and he sets the place on
- 27:44Speaker 1: fire as he stays back in the house. So with
- 27:49Speaker 1: him and Madeline's corpse is still inside, or him and
- 27:52Speaker 1: Madeline is still inside. Alex Agnes and miss Potter are
- 27:59Speaker 1: are survivors, yes, And they decided to kill the remaining
- 28:03Speaker 1: fungus and basically kind of just kill off the whole
- 28:07Speaker 1: body of water, set on fire, poison it. They put
- 28:10Speaker 1: like a poison that will kill fungus, and it kind
- 28:13Speaker 1: of just squorks the area of this fungus, of this
- 28:17Speaker 1: white fungus, because all the hairs that were on her
- 28:19Speaker 1: body arm coming off her head were all this fungus
- 28:24Speaker 1: burrowing from her skin, from her skin and her body
- 28:29Speaker 1: was nothing but pure fungus at that point. So the
- 28:33Speaker 1: fungus was keeping her alive while she was trying to
- 28:36Speaker 1: teach it how to communicate. But instead of doing that,
- 28:41Speaker 1: they just set the place on fire and killed off
- 28:43Speaker 1: the fungus, which I mean, good choice, a good fucking choice,
- 28:48Speaker 1: because ew, yeah, yeah, that's a no point now, like no,
- 28:58Speaker 1: And that's where The book ends on what moves the
- 29:02Speaker 1: Dead is the fact that they is they poison the land,
- 29:06Speaker 1: they get rid of all the rest of the fungus
- 29:08Speaker 1: on the property before they leave, as they watched the
- 29:11Speaker 1: house burn the mansion birds of the ground with Madeline
- 29:14Speaker 1: and her twin brother in it. And of course Alice
- 29:17Speaker 1: is kind of fucked because this is their childhood friend
- 29:20Speaker 1: that they just saw die or admit that they've been
- 29:24Speaker 1: dead and take it over by some fungus, fungus among us.
- 29:28Speaker 2: Honestly, you gotta do what you gotta do.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Yeah, but yeah, and that's the end of the book.
- 29:35Speaker 1: I loved this book. Oh, I was on a journey.
- 29:39Speaker 1: Those are some of the best four hours I've listened
- 29:43Speaker 1: to a book, Like no joke. This is my top
- 29:45Speaker 1: five favorite books I've read so far. Like, this book
- 29:48Speaker 1: is fucking good.
- 29:50Speaker 2: Oh it sounded really good.
- 29:53Speaker 1: Again I gave the dumb down version. But the details
- 29:56Speaker 1: of this that the author writes about the fungus and
- 29:59Speaker 1: how describing that the body's innards of the hair or
- 30:03Speaker 1: something but funk gets is gross. But I'm like, oh, home,
- 30:07Speaker 1: I listen to more. So if you want to read
- 30:11Speaker 1: a short book, please What Moves the Dead. It's a
- 30:16Speaker 1: good it's a good short horror novella if you're especially
- 30:22Speaker 1: if you're like The Fall of the House of Usher,
- 30:24Speaker 1: because this is a retelling of that. It's great. Ten
- 30:28Speaker 1: ten spot on. I would love to see a movie
- 30:31Speaker 1: out of this, or a series out of this, something
- 30:33Speaker 1: television wise out of this or a film, because you
- 30:37Speaker 1: could easily it'd be so good. Oh but yes, that
- 30:41Speaker 1: is what moves the dead. Next week I'm gonna be
- 30:43Speaker 1: talking about it's seql what feasts at night. So tell
- 30:48Speaker 1: then feats out. You're gonna say bye bye.
