- 0:48SPEAKER_10: 3-1-2.
- 0:50SPEAKER_10: A lot of stuff going on in uh the rock world.
- 0:54SPEAKER_10: Um most of it, um, our heroes are uh either extending their tours because it's the only way they can make money, or they're stopping because of health problems.
- 1:11SPEAKER_10: I and I don't mean to laugh at that.
- 1:12SPEAKER_05: I mean that's that's just the reality of the situation of the situation.
- 1:16SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:17SPEAKER_10: Uh we'll get to that in a second.
- 1:18SPEAKER_10: So uh let's see.
- 1:20SPEAKER_10: We had We had a busy weekend.
- 1:22SPEAKER_10: We did have a busy weekend.
- 1:24SPEAKER_10: Um we played last Friday uh at the Down Under in in Holton.
- 1:29SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:30SPEAKER_10: And um I would say it was good.
- 1:33SPEAKER_10: I mean it was it was a different it was a different crowd.
- 1:36SPEAKER_10: We didn't we didn't uh there was only a couple that we of people that we knew.
- 1:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and they weren't anywhere anywhere near us.
- 1:43SPEAKER_10: They weren't.
- 1:44SPEAKER_10: They weren't anywhere near us.
- 1:45SPEAKER_10: Um but I mean we we did our thing.
- 1:48SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:49SPEAKER_10: And I think people enjoyed it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_05: Especially that one little kid.
- 1:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:52SPEAKER_10: And he stayed for quite a while.
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: He did.
- 1:54SPEAKER_10: That was a pretty good thing.
- 1:55SPEAKER_10: He couldn't have been more than what, three or four?
- 1:57SPEAKER_05: I don't even think he was that.
- 1:58SPEAKER_05: Maybe two or three.
- 2:00SPEAKER_10: Maybe every time we would finish a song, he'd be like, Yay! We're like, please don't leave.
- 2:06SPEAKER_05: Well, I didn't notice that his parents uh they did stay.
- 2:10SPEAKER_05: They like ordered like more drinks and just hung out.
- 2:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_10: And he was having a great time.
- 2:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, they were liking the music too, I think.
- 2:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so um uh but we uh we kind of made a joke of it.
- 2:20SPEAKER_10: Please don't leave.
- 2:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 2:21SPEAKER_10: Um we like the feedback, we we feed off the feedback.
- 2:24SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 2:25SPEAKER_10: Um and so that was that was Friday night.
- 2:29SPEAKER_10: And then Saturday we had um another gig which was uh less um exciting, uh shall we say.
- 2:42SPEAKER_05: Um they had um we were background.
- 2:45SPEAKER_10: We were background.
- 2:46SPEAKER_10: They could have they could have just easily just put a radio on.
- 2:49unknown: Yeah.
- 2:49SPEAKER_10: Well, they had a really nice jukebox.
- 2:50SPEAKER_10: They did have a really nice jukebox.
- 2:52SPEAKER_10: It's like, why are you hiring us?
- 2:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, why you why are you spending money on us when you can have a really nice jukebox?
- 2:57SPEAKER_05: Shouldn't be complaining though, because I mean that's that's money in our pocket.
- 3:00SPEAKER_10: It's well not only is it money in our pockets, but it well, it's people I think to the sun.
- 3:08SPEAKER_10: I think people like live music.
- 3:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, no, no, it's it's it's a different vibe.
- 3:12SPEAKER_05: It is with live music compared to a jukebox or somebody playing songs over their iPod.
- 3:19SPEAKER_10: And these days with AI taking over everything, uh I will take it.
- 3:24SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 3:25SPEAKER_10: Uh we know.
- 3:26SPEAKER_10: Oh, we are a dying breed.
- 3:27SPEAKER_10: Oh, it's for sure.
- 3:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 3:29SPEAKER_10: Um I just I sent a a link to my uh to my wife today saying another industry gone to AI, uh, and and it Yeah, you know, I hate to be that guy that complains about everything all the time, but I'm you know, my wheelhouses, if you will, like what I have done as uh a career uh before I became a teacher is all like obsolete now.
- 3:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was all creativity and right, well, it's well the music, right?
- 4:02SPEAKER_10: Uh I shouldn't say music is obsolete because then it will become obsolete.
- 4:07SPEAKER_10: But uh, you know, all this AI stuff, uh songwriting and recording.
- 4:12SPEAKER_10: I mean you anybody can say, Write a song about this.
- 4:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_10: And they'll write the song and then you put it into another AI thing, and they'll create the song and it'll be sound amazing.
- 4:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 4:22SPEAKER_10: Um which sucks.
- 4:23SPEAKER_10: Which sucks.
- 4:24SPEAKER_10: Um God gone it.
- 4:26SPEAKER_10: And and it makes it really difficult to be an artist today and a songwriter.
- 4:33SPEAKER_10: Uh so there's that industry.
- 4:34SPEAKER_10: I was in radio for 25 years.
- 4:36SPEAKER_10: I I sent my wife a link today.
- 4:38SPEAKER_10: There are radio stations that are the the DJs are are all AI voices.
- 4:47SPEAKER_10: And you like you feed them and they say, and it sounds like a real person.
- 4:52SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 4:53SPEAKER_10: I mean, it's like you can't distinguish between real and and and AI when it comes to like a radio DJ.
- 5:00SPEAKER_10: The the inflections and you know, when you look on like LinkedIn or Indeed or wherever you're looking for jobs, I used to do voiceover work too.
- 5:09SPEAKER_10: When you type in, I'd like to see if I can find a voiceover job, even just on like a side gig or whatever, all of the voiceover jobs now are are um training AI models.
- 5:21SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 5:22SPEAKER_10: Like you're gonna send us your voice, and and our model is going to emulate that.
- 5:28SPEAKER_10: And and all the little influctuations and and things that your voice does, they're gonna make it sound more real.
- 5:35SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 5:37SPEAKER_10: Screw that, I'm not doing that.
- 5:39SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 5:39SPEAKER_10: But why feed the machine again?
- 5:42SPEAKER_10: Radio is going the way of AI.
- 5:45SPEAKER_10: Everything is going the way of AI.
- 5:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but terrestrial radio is kind of dying anyway.
- 5:49SPEAKER_05: Well, radio in itself is dying.
- 5:51SPEAKER_05: Well But I I I can see it's a cost-cutting measure because you don't have to pay for people.
- 5:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but you know, you also lose listeners.
- 5:59SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that well, I mean, that's I mean, there's a there's a there's a drawback to it, obviously.
- 6:03SPEAKER_10: Because there are I mean, they've done surveys, and I agree with these surveys, but it doesn't, it's it's it's not a uh it's still not a winning formula because the surveys say that people like to listen to music, you know, that's why they're they stream, because they want to listen to uninterrupted music.
- 6:22SPEAKER_10: So why are you listening to our station?
- 6:25SPEAKER_10: Well, because of the personalities.
- 6:27SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 6:28SPEAKER_10: You know, like if if you have like well, uh just for an example, Big D and Bubba uh just got uh country radio uh morning personalities of the year again for the Country Music Association, and they deserve it.
- 6:42SPEAKER_10: They're amazing.
- 6:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah, uh uh I say amazing, they're really good.
- 6:46SPEAKER_10: They're good at what they do, they're good at what they do, yeah.
- 6:48SPEAKER_10: Um and uh that's why people listen to that station in the morning.
- 6:54SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 6:55SPEAKER_10: Is to hear those guys and the antics that they get up to and the to laugh, you know, and that's why a lot of people listen to some morning radio shows is because of the personalities.
- 7:08SPEAKER_10: Is that enough to rope people in?
- 7:11SPEAKER_10: No.
- 7:12SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean, it's gonna be we're you're you know, this personality's on from seven to ten.
- 7:18SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:18SPEAKER_05: They're gonna shut it off at ten.
- 7:20SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:20SPEAKER_05: And they're not gonna listen again till the next day.
- 7:23SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 7:23SPEAKER_05: At seven, yeah.
- 7:24SPEAKER_10: It's true.
- 7:25SPEAKER_10: So um so when you say radio is dying, I don't think it's dying, but I do think it's on life support.
- 7:33SPEAKER_06: I okay.
- 7:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I I do I do think I do think it can turn around.
- 7:38SPEAKER_10: How?
- 7:39SPEAKER_10: I have no idea.
- 7:40SPEAKER_10: But I think it can turn around because I think it's it's one of those I hope it's one of those cycles where people well because people are rebelling against AI music.
- 7:51SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 7:52SPEAKER_10: You know, they're like that's and and we we talked about those AI posters that you see.
- 7:56SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 7:56SPEAKER_10: People are rebelling against it.
- 7:58SPEAKER_10: Stop doing that.
- 7:59SPEAKER_10: Well, they all look the same.
- 8:00SPEAKER_10: They all look the same.
- 8:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_10: Uh it's okay in a pinch, but they all look the same.
- 8:05SPEAKER_10: The AI music all sounds the same to a certain extent.
- 8:10SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 8:10SPEAKER_10: You can tell you can almost tell that it's AI.
- 8:13SPEAKER_10: Um, and people don't like it.
- 8:16SPEAKER_10: They're rebelling against it.
- 8:18SPEAKER_10: And uh I think that may happen.
- 8:21SPEAKER_10: I hope.
- 8:22SPEAKER_05: Those are the people that are fans of Sarah Connor.
- 8:26SPEAKER_05: Um from Terminator, yeah, right.
- 8:30SPEAKER_10: Yes, we need to save Sarah Connor.
- 8:31SPEAKER_05: Well, I saw a meme today that said Sarah Connor was uh institutionalized because she went after AI data centers.
- 8:40SPEAKER_10: And I'm like I hope radio uh I hope people come back to radio uh like that, like that.
- 8:53SPEAKER_10: Like like the rebel against streaming because streaming doesn't pay the artist.
- 8:58SPEAKER_10: People don't care about that.
- 8:59SPEAKER_10: I understand.
- 8:59SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 9:00SPEAKER_10: Um but yeah, I hope there's a like a resurgence of radio.
- 9:05SPEAKER_05: Like there's a well if somebody had a really good morning show or radio show, like a call-in show, request show, and you put them on the air.
- 9:12SPEAKER_05: People like to be on the air.
- 9:13SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 9:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I agree.
- 9:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, I remember, you know, when we did the show.
- 9:18SPEAKER_10: Of course, we did the show like it was like 15 years ago.
- 9:21SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but still, people were like, you know, oh, I heard myself on the radio.
- 9:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, no, they did they did enjoy that.
- 9:28SPEAKER_10: And I enjoyed putting them on.
- 9:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 9:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it was yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_10: Um yeah, we had a good time.
- 9:32SPEAKER_10: Oh we did.
- 9:33SPEAKER_10: Hello, Mr.
- 9:34SPEAKER_10: Pure Pro Pro Furnace.
- 9:38SPEAKER_10: Mr.
- 9:38SPEAKER_06: Furnace.
- 9:39SPEAKER_06: How are you today?
- 9:41SPEAKER_10: He's about to tell you, ready?
- 9:42SPEAKER_10: He's like, Oh, interesting.
- 9:45SPEAKER_10: It's warming up.
- 9:46SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 9:48SPEAKER_10: You don't say.
- 9:49SPEAKER_10: Oh, maybe maybe that's it.
- 9:52SPEAKER_10: When it just clicks on, usually there's a bigger, it's like a but maybe I missed it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_10: Anyway.
- 10:02SPEAKER_10: That's okay.
- 10:03SPEAKER_10: Um, so say hello to Mr.
- 10:05SPEAKER_10: Furnace, everyone.
- 10:06SPEAKER_10: Mr.
- 10:06SPEAKER_10: Pure Pro.
- 10:07SPEAKER_10: Um we did lose an artist.
- 10:11SPEAKER_10: Although he was almost a one-hit wonder.
- 10:14SPEAKER_10: Do you remember Donny Iris?
- 10:16SPEAKER_05: No.
- 10:16SPEAKER_10: You don't remember Donny Iris.
- 10:18SPEAKER_10: I'm curious, he was from Pittsburgh.
- 10:20SPEAKER_10: I'm curious if they shared uh his yeah, and they did, yeah.
- 10:25SPEAKER_10: There was a song that got requested all the time since we're talking about radio, uh, from our show.
- 10:31SPEAKER_10: And I don't know if you remember this song or not.
- 10:33SPEAKER_10: I don't even know if you remember it getting requested because you weren't with me every single day.
- 10:37SPEAKER_06: No.
- 10:38SPEAKER_10: But um And not all day either.
- 10:40SPEAKER_10: And not all day either, right.
- 10:42SPEAKER_10: Um, but this song was requested um many, many, many times.
- 10:55SPEAKER_08: This is called Aliyah.
- 10:57SPEAKER_10: Oh, I know the song.
- 10:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah, this is Donnie Iris.
- 10:59SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 11:02SPEAKER_13: This was his uh, I mean, he had a couple other uh hits, but this one was the course he uh succumbed to the big C.
- 11:32SPEAKER_10: Of course, of course.
- 11:34SPEAKER_10: Um he uh I guess I didn't know this.
- 11:40SPEAKER_10: He was in the Jaggers.
- 11:43SPEAKER_10: Do you remember the Jaggers?
- 11:45SPEAKER_10: Negative.
- 11:46SPEAKER_10: Um The Jaggers did have hit a hit as well.
- 11:50SPEAKER_10: Uh they were a one-hit wonder, and after, and he was in Wild Cherry after uh the play that funky music craze.
- 11:58SPEAKER_05: So like he You know they're still making money off that song.
- 12:00SPEAKER_05: Of course they are.
- 12:01SPEAKER_05: It's amazing.
- 12:03SPEAKER_10: Um he was in this band that and they had a hit in 1981 with uh this song There you go a bit at all?
- 12:26SPEAKER_10: Wait for the chorus.
- 12:27SPEAKER_13: Someone up to get you'll find a manuale.
- 12:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 12:57SPEAKER_10: Although it doesn't say he's on this one, maybe he was in after uh after this one.
- 13:02SPEAKER_10: But Dominic Ivers was in the Jaggers for a while and was in Wild Cherry for a while after their uh their big hit.
- 13:08SPEAKER_10: But his only s real solo hit was uh was that one, Aliyah.
- 13:14SPEAKER_10: But it was popular.
- 13:20SPEAKER_13: I never knew how badly I was missing.
- 13:23SPEAKER_10: He was uh 83.
- 13:26SPEAKER_10: So lived a good life.
- 13:28SPEAKER_10: Uh rest in peace, Donnie Iris.
- 13:32SPEAKER_10: Uh, we have new music to listen to uh for the podcast today before we get to our big one.
- 13:38SPEAKER_10: Actually, I should take a look at this before I yeah.
- 13:41SPEAKER_10: Because we're all we're talking about Halloween today.
- 13:44SPEAKER_10: Because it's gonna be Halloween.
- 13:46SPEAKER_10: This weekend.
- 13:46SPEAKER_10: That's right.
- 13:47SPEAKER_10: Um But let me hear, uh I want to hear the new one from Lita Ford, and it's coincidentally Halloween related.
- 13:53SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 13:54SPEAKER_10: Uh she's got a brand new single.
- 13:57SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 13:59SPEAKER_10: Legendary former Runaways guitarists will celebrate the arrival of the new new music by playing a couple of special Halloween concerts.
- 14:05SPEAKER_10: Um, the forthcoming album will be released by Frontiers, though the title and release date have not been announced yet.
- 14:12SPEAKER_10: So we don't know when this is coming out.
- 14:15SPEAKER_10: Um I don't want to get the story behind the song because I don't really care at this point.
- 14:19SPEAKER_10: I just want to hear the song.
- 14:20SPEAKER_10: Just want to hear the song.
- 14:21SPEAKER_10: So this is called Dracula.
- 14:24SPEAKER_10: This is new stuff from Lita Ford.
- 14:32SPEAKER_10: It's taking a while here.
- 14:34SPEAKER_10: There we go.
- 14:39SPEAKER_10: High quality video, too.
- 14:44SPEAKER_10: That's sarcasm.
- 14:45SPEAKER_05: Looks like something junior iKid did it.
- 14:49SPEAKER_10: He's standing in front of a green screen.
- 14:53SPEAKER_09: Making faces rock face, dude.
- 14:57SPEAKER_09: This is all AI.
- 14:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_05: Is it just made or she looked really uncomfortable doing this?
- 15:24SPEAKER_05: She does.
- 15:30SPEAKER_10: Well, here's the here's what what something I've always said.
- 15:34SPEAKER_10: You know, I always had a dream to be a an artist of some sort.
- 15:38SPEAKER_10: Um singer, you know, a rock star, right?
- 15:41SPEAKER_10: Whatever.
- 15:42SPEAKER_10: I'm glad I didn't.
- 15:44SPEAKER_10: Because I would be so uncomfortable making a music video like this.
- 15:47SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know, right?
- 15:48SPEAKER_10: I could make a music video like we used to do, like like like Hootie would do, like with just them goofing off.
- 15:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 15:54SPEAKER_10: Love that.
- 15:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's that's the way to do it.
- 15:56SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's what people want to say.
- 15:58SPEAKER_09: This is Look at the look at the look on her face.
- 16:07SPEAKER_05: She's like, I can't believe I'm doing this.
- 16:09SPEAKER_05: That's that's so stupid.
- 16:11SPEAKER_10: She's gonna snarl on her face.
- 16:13SPEAKER_12: This is all AI's good.
- 16:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 16:28SPEAKER_05: Not crazy about the stall.
- 16:29SPEAKER_05: No, neither am I.
- 16:30SPEAKER_05: I'm gonna I'm old, you think she is?
- 16:33SPEAKER_05: Oh, she's gotta be under 70s dude.
- 16:39SPEAKER_09: 68.
- 16:40SPEAKER_09: Oh, 68, oh she looks good for 68, I went to that.
- 16:54SPEAKER_10: The song is just it's just okay.
- 16:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's just by I have to say though, if you've heard any of Lita Ford stuff maybe in the past 15 years, maybe 20 years.
- 17:12SPEAKER_10: I remember she went on um that metal show with Eddie Trunk.
- 17:16SPEAKER_10: This must have been 2015, 14 promoting something, and I was like, oh check that out, and I listened to it, and it was awful.
- 17:26SPEAKER_10: Like like industrial metal, and it just it wasn't good.
- 17:30SPEAKER_09: That's too bad.
- 17:31SPEAKER_09: This is better than that than that one.
- 17:34SPEAKER_09: That's not saying much, no, no.
- 17:38SPEAKER_09: And the video is pretty poor.
- 17:44SPEAKER_10: Oh, is this the guitar stall?
- 17:51SPEAKER_14: Don't tell.
- 17:52SPEAKER_10: Oh, now she's talking to direct.
- 17:58SPEAKER_09: Did I say you want my phone number?
- 18:00SPEAKER_09: She did.
- 18:05SPEAKER_09: She's a great player.
- 18:06SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 18:12SPEAKER_09: Although that's not very impressive.
- 18:14SPEAKER_09: Anyway.
- 18:18SPEAKER_10: I'm excited that Lita has new stuff.
- 18:20SPEAKER_10: That's good.
- 18:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 18:22SPEAKER_10: I'm excited that she's she's got some new stuff coming out.
- 18:25SPEAKER_10: So that's uh there's no uh release date yet or album title, and we'll let you know as soon as we as soon as we hear.
- 18:32SPEAKER_05: I hope it's not some stupid like trick or treat.
- 18:35unknown: Yeah.
- 18:36SPEAKER_05: Lita Ford, trick or treat.
- 18:42unknown: Stop.
- 18:42SPEAKER_10: Ultimate Classic Rock uh has a list of old school Halloween uh trends or whatever that would never fly today.
- 18:53SPEAKER_10: Uh let's just before we get into this list, let's let's talk about uh our memories of Halloween.
- 18:59SPEAKER_10: So and we kind of almost do the same thing, um although you can't really do really the same thing as we used to do as we were kids.
- 19:08SPEAKER_10: Um but we go house to house.
- 19:11SPEAKER_10: Do you did you did you want go house to house?
- 19:13SPEAKER_05: You well, I had to go I had to go into town into town, right?
- 19:17SPEAKER_05: Because if I if I did house to house at my house, it'd be like it'd be one house.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 19:22SPEAKER_05: Because it's like uh how many miles away?
- 19:24SPEAKER_10: Exactly.
- 19:25SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 19:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 19:26SPEAKER_10: Um we because when we were kids we lived in town.
- 19:30SPEAKER_10: Uh and um like when you live in town uh here in Prescott, it's you're living on top of somebody.
- 19:37SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_10: Really.
- 19:38SPEAKER_10: I mean the the the lots are so close together.
- 19:40SPEAKER_10: But um so we would go house to house.
- 19:43SPEAKER_10: Um I remember the only the only costume I remember when I was a kid was probably when I was I don't know, seven.
- 19:52SPEAKER_10: Something like that.
- 19:53SPEAKER_10: And do you remember those cheap costumes with the the plastic mask with the with the rubber band that you put yeah?
- 20:00SPEAKER_10: I had one that was uh Gene Simmons of Kiss.
- 20:03SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 20:04SPEAKER_10: Uh and I had Shazam once.
- 20:06SPEAKER_10: Shazam.
- 20:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:07SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 20:08SPEAKER_10: It was awesome.
- 20:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:09SPEAKER_10: But I don't remember any other ones.
- 20:11SPEAKER_10: Do you remember any other ones?
- 20:12SPEAKER_10: No.
- 20:13SPEAKER_10: You just remember the one I just remember Shazam.
- 20:16SPEAKER_10: Yeah, and I just remember Kiss.
- 20:17SPEAKER_05: But I remember I remember having different ones.
- 20:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah, me too.
- 20:21SPEAKER_05: But I don't remember what they were.
- 20:22SPEAKER_05: But I don't remember what they were at all.
- 20:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see if Yeah, I d I don't have a clue.
- 20:29SPEAKER_10: Did you ever get popcorn balls?
- 20:30SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I hated those.
- 20:31SPEAKER_10: Yeah, so did I.
- 20:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I just tossed them.
- 20:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:33SPEAKER_10: And that's one of the things we talked about l uh last week that was the razor blades and the apples.
- 20:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_10: Same thing for the popcorn balls.
- 20:39SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I mean, that's just that's sketch.
- 20:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 20:42SPEAKER_05: That's just that's that's no imagination at all.
- 20:44SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 20:45SPEAKER_10: Come on.
- 20:46SPEAKER_10: I'm out.
- 20:46SPEAKER_10: Come on.
- 20:47SPEAKER_10: What else?
- 20:47SPEAKER_10: What else?
- 20:48SPEAKER_10: What else?
- 20:48SPEAKER_10: So what did you do anything on Halloween?
- 20:50SPEAKER_10: Now nowadays they do like the trunk retreats, which is supposedly safer.
- 20:54SPEAKER_10: Uh I guess, but it's kind of boring.
- 20:56SPEAKER_10: It is kind of boring.
- 20:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 20:58SPEAKER_05: You just walk around a parking lot and everybody's parked next to each other and they're giving they try to decorate, but I mean, come on, it's giving out the back of your car.
- 21:07SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 21:07SPEAKER_05: I mean, this this is like one step above, you know, Chester the Molester.
- 21:12SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:13SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 21:14SPEAKER_10: Yes, I do.
- 21:15SPEAKER_10: Um I I I my kids don't I think we did a truck retreat a year or two ago just as we were because with Myra, yeah, uh, well, actually the past couple years, she's gone out with friends.
- 21:27SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:27SPEAKER_10: Um, you know, and but before that, uh we would take her into town and there's a a few streets that are just littered with people.
- 21:37SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 21:38SPEAKER_10: And just to kind of be with the in crowd, we would go on those streets and go to, I don't know, six or seven houses, and she would have already a full thing.
- 21:48SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah, yeah.
- 21:49SPEAKER_10: And then on and then we would go to our relatives, trick-or-treating at gr Grammys and Nana's, right?
- 21:55SPEAKER_10: And then uh on our way home, the uh Wesleyan church uh would normally have like a trunk or treat thing.
- 22:05SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 22:05SPEAKER_10: So we would stop in there and just top it off.
- 22:08SPEAKER_10: You know, we'd go through it.
- 22:09SPEAKER_10: So we'd that wasn't our only thing, but for a lot of people, that's their only stop is the trunk or treat.
- 22:15SPEAKER_10: Um so I don't know.
- 22:18SPEAKER_05: Nah, we used to have to work for it.
- 22:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah, like how?
- 22:22SPEAKER_05: Like actually go street, you know, up down streets.
- 22:25SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, yeah, you know.
- 22:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 22:27SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, now they just I'm gonna go to a parking lot and just walk around in a circle, get candy.
- 22:31SPEAKER_05: Yep.
- 22:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that sucks.
- 22:33SPEAKER_10: Did you ever go to a house where the uh owner of the house or the parents in the house or whatever went up went above and beyond yeah, Dr.
- 22:40SPEAKER_10: Nicholas and and like either scared you oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Dr.
- 22:44SPEAKER_05: Nicholas scared the crap.
- 22:46SPEAKER_05: Did he really every oh yeah, yeah, you know, you know, that that which is funny because you know he's a hardcore Christian.
- 22:51SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_05: And he would have like coffins and like things would pop out of the coffins when you walk dying.
- 22:56SPEAKER_05: I mean, he went all out, it was great.
- 22:58SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:00SPEAKER_10: Nobody does that anymore.
- 23:01SPEAKER_10: No.
- 23:02SPEAKER_10: I remember I remember when I was uh we lived on Elizabeth Street and we went to uh one house uh that was we we didn't know who it was actually.
- 23:11SPEAKER_10: Um we know most of our neighbors, but we didn't know this neighbor, so we were kind of hesitant.
- 23:16SPEAKER_10: But we walked in and and it was a quote unquote haunted house.
- 23:22SPEAKER_10: And and the the the the dad figure in the house.
- 23:25SPEAKER_10: I mean, there was stuff like we okay, reach in and get your candy, and when you reach in and get your candy, and it's like all jello jell-o or something like that.
- 23:32SPEAKER_10: Oh, those are my brains, never mind.
- 23:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah, as like a five or six-year-old kid, I'm like, oh my god! You know, scared me.
- 23:40SPEAKER_10: It really did.
- 23:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 23:41SPEAKER_10: Um, and I didn't go to that house again.
- 23:43SPEAKER_10: Um, but yeah, little things like that I remember.
- 23:45SPEAKER_10: What about uh what was your like your favorite candy to get?
- 23:49SPEAKER_05: I didn't really have a favorite, just any candy was good candy.
- 23:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah, see, I'm a rich.
- 23:55SPEAKER_05: Unless it wasn't uh th those big foam peanuts.
- 23:59SPEAKER_05: Remember those?
- 24:00SPEAKER_05: Foam peanuts?
- 24:01SPEAKER_05: Well, I call them foam, they're probably marshmallow or something.
- 24:05SPEAKER_05: You remember they're all like orangey.
- 24:08SPEAKER_10: Orangy.
- 24:09SPEAKER_10: Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh.
- 24:10SPEAKER_10: You know what I'm talking about?
- 24:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you're talking about I know what you're talking about.
- 24:12SPEAKER_10: You're talking about uh what are they called?
- 24:15SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 24:15SPEAKER_10: I just circus peanuts or something.
- 24:17SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 24:17SPEAKER_10: Not peanuts.
- 24:18SPEAKER_10: They're uh they're are you talking about the um They look like peanuts.
- 24:23SPEAKER_10: Uh oh, foam peanuts.
- 24:25SPEAKER_10: Wait a second.
- 24:25SPEAKER_05: Yeah, some like I said, they were probably marshmallow, but I called them foam because that's what they tasted like.
- 24:30SPEAKER_10: What are you are you talking about like the little um No, they were like that big.
- 24:34SPEAKER_10: They were Oh, they were big.
- 24:35SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: Oh, okay.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: Never mind.
- 24:36SPEAKER_10: I'm thinking of something.
- 24:37SPEAKER_10: Oh wait, yes, I know.
- 24:38SPEAKER_10: I know what you're talking about.
- 24:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 24:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 24:40SPEAKER_10: They're uh they are marshmallow, I think.
- 24:42SPEAKER_10: Okay, yeah.
- 24:43SPEAKER_10: They're almost like they're almost like uh uh no, I I know exactly what you're talking about.
- 24:48SPEAKER_05: No, you you you good candies are like your MMs, you know, candy bars, yeah, stuff like that, candy corn.
- 24:54SPEAKER_05: I I don't know, people dis candy corn.
- 24:56SPEAKER_10: That's what I thought you were talking about.
- 24:58SPEAKER_05: Candy corn, I'll I like I'll eat I'll eat the crap out of candy corn.
- 25:01SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I can only take so much of it.
- 25:02SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I used to love it, man.
- 25:04SPEAKER_10: I'm uh I'm a Reese's guy.
- 25:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah, Reese's.
- 25:06SPEAKER_10: Anytime there's a Reese's cup, I would, you know, yeah to this day when my kids go and they go, they'll drink, they'll I'll be like, I'll give you a dollar.
- 25:13SPEAKER_10: Dad tax.
- 25:14SPEAKER_10: Give me all your Reese cups.
- 25:16SPEAKER_10: Dad tax.
- 25:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 25:18SPEAKER_10: Take more than a dollar, Dad.
- 25:19SPEAKER_05: Sorry.
- 25:20SPEAKER_05: But what I did not go for was bit of honey.
- 25:23SPEAKER_05: Oh, see, I liked bit of honey.
- 25:24SPEAKER_05: I hated it because it gets stuck in your teeth.
- 25:26SPEAKER_05: It was hard.
- 25:31SPEAKER_10: You know, I hated it.
- 25:32SPEAKER_10: And it w and oftentimes it was really hard.
- 25:34SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, you'd have to soften it.
- 25:36SPEAKER_05: You'd have to keep it in your mouth for like six days before it was soft enough to eat.
- 25:40SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 25:41SPEAKER_10: You know, and just I was like, nah, I ain't having Did you have any like um like traditions?
- 25:46SPEAKER_10: Uh because the I mean the the title of this article before we read it is uh old school Halloween things that would never fly today.
- 25:53SPEAKER_10: No, there's probably nothing really good.
- 25:55SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I just get in a costume, go into town.
- 25:57SPEAKER_05: Well, I mean trick-or-treat.
- 25:59SPEAKER_05: There's there's your tradition.
- 26:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:01SPEAKER_10: So let's look at these.
- 26:02SPEAKER_10: Strangers handing out homemade treats.
- 26:06SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 26:06SPEAKER_10: So chocolate chip cookies or something.
- 26:08SPEAKER_10: Even back then that was sketchy.
- 26:09SPEAKER_10: Wrapped in uh saran wrap or plastic wrap.
- 26:12SPEAKER_05: Unless it was like a relative.
- 26:14SPEAKER_05: If it was a relative, then it was good.
- 26:15SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 26:16SPEAKER_10: You know, but off the shelf, I can't breathe Halloween costumes.
- 26:19SPEAKER_05: Yeah, baby, this is what we were talking about.
- 26:21SPEAKER_05: That's exactly it, man.
- 26:22SPEAKER_10: I had I had uh Gene Simmons of Kiss, and and it you know, it was a mask mask just like that.
- 26:27SPEAKER_10: G.I.
- 26:27SPEAKER_10: Joe.
- 26:28SPEAKER_10: Did you ever go with G.I.
- 26:29SPEAKER_10: Joe?
- 26:29SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 26:29SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 26:30SPEAKER_10: Surprisingly.
- 26:30SPEAKER_10: Yeah, me either.
- 26:32SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 26:33SPEAKER_10: Uh no parents were allowed, period.
- 26:38SPEAKER_10: I don't remember that.
- 26:39SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you know, my I've I've always taken my kids uh tricky.
- 26:43SPEAKER_05: I mean, they would walk with us, but we would go to the house.
- 26:47SPEAKER_10: They wouldn't walk us to the house.
- 26:48SPEAKER_10: Now that you s now that I I think about this, me as a kid, I don't think they ever went with us.
- 26:56SPEAKER_10: Because our neighborhood was well, I mean Elizabeth Street is, you know, is well it's pretty insulated.
- 27:03SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's a street of houses, and then there's William Street, and then there's Lincoln Street, and w we kind of I mean, maybe when we were really young they took us.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:11SPEAKER_10: But I don't remember them taking us.
- 27:14SPEAKER_10: And uh I could be wrong, but well, ours had to, because yeah.
- 27:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you had to drive.
- 27:20SPEAKER_10: So uh let's see.
- 27:24SPEAKER_10: Walking right into a stranger's house, no parents required.
- 27:28SPEAKER_10: No, no.
- 27:28SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we did that.
- 27:29SPEAKER_10: I don't remember, didn't we?
- 27:30SPEAKER_10: Well, that's what I did with the with the haunted house.
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: Oh, Joe, yeah, yeah.
- 27:33SPEAKER_10: You know, my parents weren't with me.
- 27:34SPEAKER_10: We just walked in.
- 27:35SPEAKER_05: I don't remember.
- 27:36SPEAKER_05: I never went into anybody's house.
- 27:37SPEAKER_05: I mean, the porch to the door, that's it.
- 27:40SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:41SPEAKER_10: So well, this was this was a guy who's like, come on in.
- 27:44SPEAKER_10: And of course, this is like 1983, whatever.
- 27:48SPEAKER_10: And it's like, yeah, okay.
- 27:49SPEAKER_10: You got candy, I'll come in.
- 27:51SPEAKER_10: Put your hand in this.
- 27:51SPEAKER_10: Yes, I'll do that.
- 27:52SPEAKER_10: Sure.
- 27:53SPEAKER_10: Candy.
- 27:53SPEAKER_10: Candy.
- 27:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 27:54SPEAKER_10: Um, let's see.
- 27:56SPEAKER_10: Running around cemeteries on Halloween night.
- 27:58SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 27:59SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 27:59SPEAKER_10: Never did that.
- 28:00SPEAKER_10: Never did that.
- 28:00SPEAKER_10: Never.
- 28:01SPEAKER_10: Um it's actually illegal now.
- 28:04SPEAKER_10: Is it really?
- 28:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you're not allowed in uh cemeteries after dusk.
- 28:09SPEAKER_10: Period.
- 28:09SPEAKER_10: Doesn't matter if it's Halloween.
- 28:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 28:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 28:12SPEAKER_10: Uh I mean, do people do it?
- 28:13SPEAKER_10: Of course.
- 28:14SPEAKER_10: Most likely.
- 28:14SPEAKER_10: Of course.
- 28:15SPEAKER_10: So, but you know.
- 28:16SPEAKER_10: Uh unsupervised carving of pumpkins with butcher knives.
- 28:19SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, heck yeah.
- 28:20SPEAKER_10: Now we we I don't know that we've ever I just saw yours out on your porch.
- 28:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 28:24SPEAKER_10: We do it, we do that every year.
- 28:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 28:26SPEAKER_10: Um, and actually Jude carved one for Peter.
- 28:29SPEAKER_10: That was the little one that you saw.
- 28:30SPEAKER_10: Oh, that was okay, yeah.
- 28:32SPEAKER_10: Um But yeah, we we never used butcher knives per se.
- 28:36SPEAKER_10: But yeah, we we carve pumpkins.
- 28:37SPEAKER_10: Yeah, well, yeah.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: To this day.
- 28:38SPEAKER_10: To this day.
- 28:39SPEAKER_05: It was a traditional I saw there was a thing on something, I can't remember it was on TV or something.
- 28:43SPEAKER_05: Like they were talking about, oh, you need you need a pumpkin carving kit.
- 28:48SPEAKER_05: And I'm like, no, you don't.
- 28:49SPEAKER_05: All you need is a freaking knife and a big spoon.
- 28:51SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 28:52SPEAKER_05: You don't need a pumpkin carving knife uh kit.
- 28:55SPEAKER_10: You just yeah, you just need a regular That's just a waste of money.
- 28:57SPEAKER_05: You need a knife and a big spoon.
- 28:58SPEAKER_10: Yep, it gone.
- 29:00SPEAKER_10: Free Halloween matinees, nobody should have let us into.
- 29:04SPEAKER_05: No, I don't remember at all.
- 29:05SPEAKER_10: No, we didn't have I mean we had a movie theater, but they never did that.
- 29:08SPEAKER_10: They never did that.
- 29:10SPEAKER_10: Uh and I don't know that our kids, our our parents would have let us in those movies.
- 29:14SPEAKER_05: Well, my parents took me into Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
- 29:16SPEAKER_05: Did they really?
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 29:17SPEAKER_05: Took me and my cousin Angel.
- 29:19SPEAKER_10: In the theater?
- 29:20SPEAKER_05: No, in the drive the drive-in.
- 29:22SPEAKER_05: How old were you?
- 29:23SPEAKER_05: Five.
- 29:23SPEAKER_05: You are kidding me.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 29:25SPEAKER_05: Did it scar you for life?
- 29:26SPEAKER_05: Heck yeah.
- 29:29SPEAKER_05: Well, not it didn't scar me for life, but that's why I don't take horror movies seriously.
- 29:33SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 29:34SPEAKER_05: Because I was exposed to it at such a young age.
- 29:36SPEAKER_05: Now I'm just like, pfft, that's stupid.
- 29:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_05: That's stupid.
- 29:40SPEAKER_05: You can't scare me anymore because I saw it when I was five.
- 29:44SPEAKER_05: Done.
- 29:45SPEAKER_10: What about Angela?
- 29:46SPEAKER_10: I don't have no idea.
- 29:47SPEAKER_10: You don't have no idea.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 29:48SPEAKER_05: She was young, because she's younger than I am.
- 29:50SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 29:50SPEAKER_05: So she was probably like three or four.
- 29:52SPEAKER_10: She probably didn't even watch it.
- 29:53SPEAKER_10: She probably didn't.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: Probably not.
- 29:54SPEAKER_05: I I I remember just watching bits and pieces of it because we were just running around playing.
- 29:58SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 29:58SPEAKER_05: You know, so it's where the uh uh the Jova witness hall was.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: Oh.
- 30:04SPEAKER_05: It's now the uh OTC outreach.
- 30:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
- 30:07SPEAKER_05: That was the old drive-thru.
- 30:08SPEAKER_10: That's right.
- 30:09SPEAKER_10: I remember that.
- 30:10SPEAKER_10: Well, I don't remember because it wasn't when I was a kid.
- 30:12SPEAKER_10: I mean, it was there when I was a kid, but we never went to it.
- 30:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, surprisingly, because I think we were poor.
- 30:17SPEAKER_10: It was pretty cool.
- 30:18SPEAKER_10: But anyway.
- 30:19SPEAKER_10: Um, homemade costumes made from trash bags, bed sheets, and bandages.
- 30:23SPEAKER_10: Yeah, my mom, my um not my mom, my wife.
- 30:27SPEAKER_10: Uh Freudian slip there, sorry.
- 30:29SPEAKER_10: Um, you feel?
- 30:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah, right.
- 30:35SPEAKER_10: Um, my wife was you know, so once we started having kids, um she always took it upon herself to to make because she's creative.
- 30:45SPEAKER_10: She's oh yeah, you know, she's a arts and crafts type person, and she she would always make their uh Halloween costumes right up until probably they were uh I don't know, eight, nine, ten years old, she would make the costume.
- 30:58SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 30:59SPEAKER_10: Uh and then sometimes recycle them.
- 31:02SPEAKER_10: Like this eight-year-old where it wore it this year, and uh, you know, when this one is eight, they're gonna wear this.
- 31:09SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:09SPEAKER_10: I know that type of thing.
- 31:11SPEAKER_10: Not like not to that extent, but especially when they were babies.
- 31:14SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 31:15SPEAKER_10: Like we had a she made a fish costume, like it was a fish with the with scales and everything.
- 31:21SPEAKER_10: And you know, more than one of our babies may have worn that costume, yeah.
- 31:25SPEAKER_10: I'm sure which is smart to be honest with you.
- 31:28SPEAKER_10: Um, yeah, so we had homemade costumes all the time.
- 31:32SPEAKER_10: Incredibly awkward school hallway Halloween parades with plenty of inappropriate costumes.
- 31:38SPEAKER_05: No, no, never had a costume print.
- 31:40SPEAKER_05: I mean, you would you would wear your costume to school.
- 31:42SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 31:43SPEAKER_05: Like if Halloween was on like a school day, yeah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_05: You'd have a Halloween party.
- 31:47SPEAKER_05: Uh-huh.
- 31:47SPEAKER_05: You'd wear your costume to school, but that was it.
- 31:49SPEAKER_10: Watching actual scary movies like Basket Case on a school night.
- 31:55SPEAKER_10: Never heard of Basket Case.
- 31:56SPEAKER_10: I never heard of any of that.
- 31:57SPEAKER_05: We only got three channels, so it was yeah.
- 31:59SPEAKER_05: Well, four.
- 32:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah, if you count PBS.
- 32:02SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 32:03SPEAKER_10: Halloween uh like Halloween movies in general, like movies that revolved around well, Halloween.
- 32:11SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you know, um not necessarily horror movies, because I wouldn't put uh Friday the 13th as as a Halloween movie.
- 32:19SPEAKER_10: I wouldn't put Nightmare on Elm Street as a Halloween movie.
- 32:21SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 32:22SPEAKER_10: Um it's a scary movie, or I mean it's not really that scary, but just stupid.
- 32:28SPEAKER_10: But uh like real Halloween movies.
- 32:30SPEAKER_10: There's a movie called Trick or Treat, uh that was based around Halloween, uh of course the Mike Myers um trill you know uh movies.
- 32:38SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 32:38SPEAKER_10: Uh what other Halloween movies are there?
- 32:40SPEAKER_05: It's a great pumpkin drawing.
- 32:42SPEAKER_10: I was just gonna say heck yeah, man.
- 32:45SPEAKER_10: Um but no scary nothing.
- 32:47SPEAKER_10: I mean, you could watch it.
- 32:48SPEAKER_05: I think I got some now, like uh like hocus pocus.
- 32:52SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 32:53SPEAKER_10: That was like in the 90s, yep, yep.
- 32:54SPEAKER_05: And then Nightmare Before Christmas.
- 32:56SPEAKER_05: That's like the Yep.
- 32:58SPEAKER_05: That's still pretty popular.
- 32:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it is actually.
- 33:00SPEAKER_10: I s I told you that.
- 33:02SPEAKER_10: I saw that um with the Bangor Symphony Orchestra.
- 33:05SPEAKER_10: That was amazing.
- 33:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I bet.
- 33:06SPEAKER_10: Um, I didn't really like that movie.
- 33:09SPEAKER_10: It's it's good, it's an acquired taste.
- 33:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it's it's a Tim Burton, so you gotta take it, you know, take it for what it is.
- 33:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 33:15SPEAKER_10: And it was I mean, it's genius.
- 33:17SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah.
- 33:17SPEAKER_10: But I didn't enjoy it.
- 33:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I mean, it's everything is well done.
- 33:21SPEAKER_10: Um McDonald's gift certificates as treats.
- 33:24SPEAKER_10: I remember getting some of those.
- 33:26SPEAKER_10: I don't remember ever getting no, I remember.
- 33:28SPEAKER_05: Um I remember getting those for like Christmas and stuff, but that not for Halloween.
- 33:34SPEAKER_05: Did you ever trick anybody?
- 33:35SPEAKER_10: No, no, me either.
- 33:37SPEAKER_05: We didn't have anybody to trick.
- 33:38SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 33:39SPEAKER_05: Who are we gonna trick?
- 33:40SPEAKER_05: They're gonna know it's us.
- 33:41SPEAKER_10: Tricks, treats, and a little toilet paper.
- 33:44SPEAKER_10: Gee, I wonder who that was.
- 33:45SPEAKER_10: You little jerk.
- 33:47SPEAKER_10: A little toilet paper and shave and cream vandalism.
- 33:50SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 33:51SPEAKER_10: Nope, we never did that either.
- 33:52SPEAKER_10: I know people that did, but but we never did.
- 33:55SPEAKER_10: That plastic pumpkin bucket was our only safety gear.
- 33:58SPEAKER_10: That thing was awesome.
- 33:59SPEAKER_10: I we still have some.
- 34:00SPEAKER_10: Oh, do you?
- 34:00SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we and we have multiple colors too.
- 34:03SPEAKER_10: Those things were awesome.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 34:04SPEAKER_10: The plastic pumpkins for sure.
- 34:06SPEAKER_10: Waxy treat bags that doubled as fake gunshots.
- 34:11SPEAKER_10: I remember the waxy treat bags, but I don't know what they're talking about.
- 34:14SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 34:14SPEAKER_10: Much like Halloween decorations, these stayed the same year after year.
- 34:17SPEAKER_10: Inevitably, they ended up on the ground covering the neighborhood in a thick layer of mini paper bags.
- 34:22SPEAKER_10: At some point, a kid figured out you could blow into one and pop it, and suddenly Halloween night sounded like an all-out gang fight.
- 34:29SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 34:30SPEAKER_10: I never did that.
- 34:31SPEAKER_10: No, I didn't either.
- 34:32SPEAKER_10: Carrying money around in the UNICEF donation box.
- 34:36SPEAKER_06: Nope.
- 34:36SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 34:37SPEAKER_10: Some people have uh razor blades and apples.
- 34:40SPEAKER_10: We've already talked about that.
- 34:41SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we talked about that.
- 34:42SPEAKER_10: Jack-o'-lanterns with real candles.
- 34:44SPEAKER_10: We always had real candles.
- 34:45SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you got real candles in your ones up there.
- 34:46SPEAKER_10: Uh nope, they're not.
- 34:47SPEAKER_10: Oh, they're not?
- 34:48SPEAKER_10: They're not real.
- 34:48SPEAKER_10: Oh, I thought they were real.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: Nope.
- 34:49SPEAKER_05: They looked real.
- 34:50SPEAKER_10: Uh, unless they changed them because I thought they was real.
- 34:53SPEAKER_10: Unless they changed them.
- 34:54SPEAKER_10: The one thing that would fly today, these paper decorations.
- 34:59SPEAKER_10: We never uh We never decorated for Halloween.
- 35:03SPEAKER_10: We never decorated for Halloween until probably my I think my daughter, my youngest, really wanted to.
- 35:10SPEAKER_10: Uh a few like a number of years ago, probably like four or five years ago.
- 35:13SPEAKER_10: She really wanted to.
- 35:15SPEAKER_10: So we ended up putting like spider webs on the front of the house.
- 35:21SPEAKER_10: But it was that one year and we never did it again.
- 35:23SPEAKER_05: You know, we only needed jack-o' lanterns, right?
- 35:25SPEAKER_05: And they would only go out Halloween night and then they would come, they would be dumb.
- 35:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 35:29SPEAKER_10: Well, we we uh we did the jack-o' lanterns, we try and do it as close to Halloween as possible because they will inevitably get destroyed by an animal.
- 35:38SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 35:39SPEAKER_10: Or the they'll just rot.
- 35:40SPEAKER_10: Or the conditions, yeah, yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 35:42SPEAKER_10: So uh we did that.
- 35:44SPEAKER_10: We've got those out there.
- 35:45SPEAKER_10: Uh yeah.
- 35:46SPEAKER_10: So I mean, I think most of our Halloween traditions would fly today.
- 35:51SPEAKER_05: Um, ours were well, I mean, you know, from a rural area, I mean it's a little different.
- 35:55SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 35:56SPEAKER_10: So yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 35:59SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 36:00SPEAKER_10: We already talked about Lita Ford.
- 36:03SPEAKER_10: Uh I want to see.
- 36:06SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, I meant to tell you this.
- 36:08SPEAKER_10: Uh I want to see what you think of this.
- 36:10SPEAKER_06: Okay.
- 36:11SPEAKER_10: Uh, and then I want to talk to you about what you had mentioned.
- 36:16SPEAKER_10: Uh I downloaded TikTok.
- 36:20SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 36:21SPEAKER_10: I don't have an account.
- 36:23SPEAKER_10: I don't have anything.
- 36:24SPEAKER_10: I can't even look at it.
- 36:25SPEAKER_10: It's just I downloaded the app.
- 36:27SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 36:27SPEAKER_10: Here's why.
- 36:27SPEAKER_05: So you haven't done anything with it.
- 36:29SPEAKER_10: No, I haven't done anything with it.
- 36:30SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 36:31SPEAKER_10: Um, and I don't even know if I'm going to, but I just want to gauge your reaction to this.
- 36:38SPEAKER_10: Because there is very little uh very few ways to make extra money lately.
- 36:50SPEAKER_10: I don't know how to make money with TikTok, but it seems a lot of people are having success with it.
- 36:56SPEAKER_10: I don't want to do it.
- 36:58SPEAKER_10: Um just because I have a principle.
- 37:01SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 37:03SPEAKER_10: Um, but I downloaded it just to investigate.
- 37:06SPEAKER_10: I thought maybe we could do something on TikTok.
- 37:11SPEAKER_10: When?
- 37:12SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 37:13SPEAKER_10: What, I don't know.
- 37:14SPEAKER_10: Um You've really thought about this.
- 37:16SPEAKER_10: I haven't.
- 37:20SPEAKER_10: I got TikTok, now what?
- 37:22SPEAKER_10: I just and I don't want to, but I see I I've been resisting just like I resisted Spotify for so long.
- 37:27SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 37:27SPEAKER_10: And I caved on that uh because I love music too much and I I want to access music.
- 37:33SPEAKER_10: Uh I don't love uh social media.
- 37:36SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 37:37SPEAKER_10: Um along the same lines as you know how we said we we could never do a music video like that.
- 37:44SPEAKER_10: I don't like looking at myself on you know on stuff like that.
- 37:48SPEAKER_10: I just it's not something that's my favorite thing to do.
- 37:52SPEAKER_10: But I think if you and I put our heads together, we could make some funny crap.
- 37:57SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 37:58SPEAKER_10: On TikTok.
- 37:59SPEAKER_05: Unintentionally funny.
- 38:00SPEAKER_05: That's what I mean.
- 38:00SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 38:01SPEAKER_10: You know, and we could use it to promote the show, the podcast.
- 38:05SPEAKER_05: Um and I mean if you're just using it for that, then that's one thing.
- 38:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 38:09SPEAKER_05: But if you're TikToking your whole life, I'm just like, Yeah, no, no, no, no.
- 38:13SPEAKER_10: And I no, no, no.
- 38:14SPEAKER_10: You're not gonna drive by and see you and I looking into a phone going and dancing.
- 38:19SPEAKER_10: You know, there's no way.
- 38:20SPEAKER_10: That's that's not what I'm talking about.
- 38:21SPEAKER_10: I don't need no phone for that.
- 38:23SPEAKER_05: I'll just do that randomly.
- 38:26SPEAKER_05: Oh, it's Doug.
- 38:27SPEAKER_05: Hey, Doug.
- 38:28SPEAKER_05: And I'll video it and put it on TikTok.
- 38:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, there we go.
- 38:30SPEAKER_05: No, I no, I'm just I don't, you know, I just the the influencer culture.
- 38:35SPEAKER_05: And I don't want to be an influencer.
- 38:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's that's that's my that's my biggest like pet peeve.
- 38:41SPEAKER_10: I agree.
- 38:42SPEAKER_05: I totally agree because they're all idiots.
- 38:44SPEAKER_10: And so and you know, it would have to depend on because when you say influencer, what that means is, and you know this, but uh people that are listening, so an influencer, when you say you're an influencer, it's you have so many followers.
- 38:59SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 39:00SPEAKER_10: And so companies come to you and say, promote our product.
- 39:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 39:05SPEAKER_10: And you influence people to buy that product.
- 39:08SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 39:09SPEAKER_05: Um, it would have to be a pretty stupid product for us to I don't know, I don't, I don't know any company on the face of the planet that would use us, as that would use us.
- 39:19SPEAKER_05: They would be like, Man, these guys are so stupid.
- 39:22SPEAKER_05: They perfect for our product.
- 39:24SPEAKER_05: Well, then why would then why would we We have edible play-doh?
- 39:28SPEAKER_05: These guys are perfect, dude.
- 39:30SPEAKER_05: Well, you should invent that.
- 39:32SPEAKER_05: Edible play.
- 39:33SPEAKER_05: Edible play-doh.
- 39:33SPEAKER_05: They did make it.
- 39:34SPEAKER_05: It's called cake batter.
- 39:42SPEAKER_10: Uh they make cakes out of it.
- 39:44SPEAKER_10: So so really good.
- 39:45SPEAKER_10: If you think no if you think no companies would come to us to promote their then Well, we're just I mean, we would do it just to promote our podcast.
- 39:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 39:55SPEAKER_05: I mean, we we've been doing this for years now.
- 39:59SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:00SPEAKER_05: Nobody's approached us for anything.
- 40:04SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 40:05SPEAKER_05: Well, we don't actively But we don't actively promote ourselves.
- 40:07SPEAKER_05: We don't we don't promote it.
- 40:09SPEAKER_05: We pr we are terrible.
- 40:10SPEAKER_05: Our marketing department is nothing.
- 40:13unknown: Right.
- 40:13SPEAKER_05: We are terrible.
- 40:14SPEAKER_05: I mean zero.
- 40:15SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we less than nothing.
- 40:16SPEAKER_10: We do the bare minimum to we just to so that you can get access to the podcast.
- 40:21SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:21SPEAKER_10: We don't talk about it anywhere.
- 40:23SPEAKER_10: We don't, you know, I even even people.
- 40:25SPEAKER_10: You have a podcast?
- 40:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, you didn't know that?
- 40:27SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:27SPEAKER_10: I mean, they don't have no clue.
- 40:29SPEAKER_10: We don't tell people that we have a podcast.
- 40:32SPEAKER_10: It's like a secret.
- 40:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 40:33SPEAKER_05: It's like we're Superman.
- 40:34SPEAKER_10: And and I but I you know, I don't know.
- 40:37SPEAKER_10: I because I like to do this podcast, wouldn't it be great?
- 40:40SPEAKER_10: We've already talked about this.
- 40:42SPEAKER_10: To do this podcast as your job.
- 40:45SPEAKER_10: Oh, yeah, it would be great.
- 40:46SPEAKER_10: That would be fantastic.
- 40:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 40:47SPEAKER_10: Well, of course, everybody has a podcast now.
- 40:49SPEAKER_10: Rob Lowe, I just saw Rob Lowe has his own podcast.
- 40:52SPEAKER_10: Why not?
- 40:53SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 40:54SPEAKER_10: I mean, it's I mean, we're it's easy.
- 40:56SPEAKER_10: We're better looking than Rob Lowe, but you know, whatever.
- 40:59SPEAKER_05: Well, says you.
- 41:00SPEAKER_05: Maybe you are.
- 41:02SPEAKER_05: Rob Lowe is gorgeous.
- 41:04SPEAKER_05: I'm just saying, man.
- 41:05SPEAKER_05: That dude, that dude aged well.
- 41:08SPEAKER_10: Yes, he did.
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: You know what I mean?
- 41:09SPEAKER_05: He did good job.
- 41:10SPEAKER_05: He still looks good.
- 41:11SPEAKER_05: Good job.
- 41:11SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 41:12SPEAKER_05: I'm like, dang.
- 41:13SPEAKER_10: He looks he looks like 25 years old.
- 41:15SPEAKER_10: I know.
- 41:15SPEAKER_05: 25, 30 years.
- 41:16SPEAKER_05: It's sickening.
- 41:17SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 41:17SPEAKER_05: It's sickening.
- 41:18SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 41:20SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 41:21SPEAKER_10: I'm a little uncomfortable right now.
- 41:24SPEAKER_05: Um Doug likes Rob Low.
- 41:26SPEAKER_05: Rob Lowe's hot, dude.
- 41:28SPEAKER_05: Rob Lowe's really hot.
- 41:30SPEAKER_05: Just saying.
- 41:31SPEAKER_05: I don't mean that in a gay way.
- 41:34SPEAKER_05: Just really love it.
- 41:35SPEAKER_05: Doug loves Rob Lowe.
- 41:37SPEAKER_05: I do, man.
- 41:37SPEAKER_05: I like that.
- 41:38SPEAKER_05: Doug loves Rob Lowe.
- 41:39SPEAKER_05: I've loved him.
- 41:40SPEAKER_05: I've loved him since uh he was in Wayne's world.
- 41:42SPEAKER_05: Watch this segue.
- 41:43SPEAKER_05: Doug wants to sing Rob Lowe, a power ballad.
- 41:47SPEAKER_05: That's a terrible segue.
- 41:49SPEAKER_05: That's worse than an actual segue.
- 41:56SPEAKER_10: Do you know where I'm going with this?
- 41:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 41:57SPEAKER_10: Yeah, okay.
- 42:00SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 42:00SPEAKER_10: That was just that was just so it was meant to be Doug.
- 42:05SPEAKER_05: Hey, we're gonna talk about this now.
- 42:08SPEAKER_10: Doug came into uh the fun dungeon West Side.
- 42:12SPEAKER_10: West Side! Uh ghetto in the hand just today.
- 42:15SPEAKER_10: And he says, you know what?
- 42:16SPEAKER_10: You know what we need more of?
- 42:18SPEAKER_10: What do we need more of, Doug?
- 42:19SPEAKER_10: Power ballads.
- 42:20SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 42:21SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 42:22SPEAKER_05: I think a lot of the world's problems could be solved with a really good power ballad.
- 42:26SPEAKER_10: We haven't we have we done a bit on uh our favorite power power ballads?
- 42:31SPEAKER_10: I thought we did.
- 42:31SPEAKER_10: I think we have.
- 42:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, we have.
- 42:33SPEAKER_10: But so what were you listening to to make it?
- 42:35SPEAKER_05: I was listening to Firehouse.
- 42:37SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 42:37SPEAKER_05: The first Firehouse album.
- 42:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:39SPEAKER_05: And Love of a Lifetime came on.
- 42:40SPEAKER_05: Where did you get that Firehouse album?
- 42:42SPEAKER_05: From you.
- 42:43SPEAKER_05: You gave it to me because it's really good.
- 42:46SPEAKER_05: I did.
- 42:46SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 42:47SPEAKER_05: But you know, I had I but I also had this epiphany that the rest of the album, except for the three hits off of it.
- 42:52SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:53SPEAKER_05: Rest of the album kind of sucks.
- 42:54SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 42:55SPEAKER_05: It sucks.
- 42:55SPEAKER_05: But I mean, when Love of Lifetime, I was like, man, this is this is a great song.
- 43:00SPEAKER_05: And then I got thinking about it.
- 43:01SPEAKER_05: I was like, man, they don't make parallel power ballads anymore.
- 43:04unknown: Yeah.
- 43:04SPEAKER_10: Nobody, nobody does that.
- 43:05SPEAKER_10: Nobody does.
- 43:06SPEAKER_10: Nobody does.
- 43:07SPEAKER_05: Although I did hear it was, it was, I mean, you know, power ballads were like our love songs of the 80s.
- 43:15SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah.
- 43:16SPEAKER_05: That's how, that's how guys like expressed love.
- 43:20SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 43:20SPEAKER_05: It was through a power ballad.
- 43:22SPEAKER_05: Because like our grandparents had like Big Band, Crooners, you know, Frank Sinatra.
- 43:28SPEAKER_05: And then our parents had, you know, the Beatles.
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 43:32SPEAKER_05: And do, you know, stuff like that.
- 43:34SPEAKER_05: We had, you know, and then the 70s came, and that was kind of like, eh, you got yacht rock.
- 43:40SPEAKER_05: But everybody was kind of like, eh.
- 43:42SPEAKER_05: But then the 80s came.
- 43:44unknown: Yeah.
- 43:44SPEAKER_05: And then you had power ballads.
- 43:46SPEAKER_05: And it was like, bro.
- 43:47SPEAKER_10: Do you know what?
- 43:48SPEAKER_10: I love you.
- 43:49SPEAKER_10: Do you know what a lot of people consider the very first power ballad?
- 43:53SPEAKER_10: Stairway to Oven?
- 43:55SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 43:57SPEAKER_10: I'll give you a little hint.
- 43:58SPEAKER_10: Came out in 1980.
- 44:42SPEAKER_10: And of course, you when you think of Ario Speed Wagon and the Power Bowl, a lot of people think of can't fight this feeling.
- 44:48SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 44:49SPEAKER_10: But this came out first.
- 44:50SPEAKER_10: This was back in 1980.
- 44:52SPEAKER_10: Keep on loving you.
- 44:54SPEAKER_05: It's a great song, man.
- 44:58SPEAKER_10: Because it's got the emotion.
- 45:00SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 45:00SPEAKER_10: It's got the tempo, slower tempo.
- 45:04SPEAKER_10: But it's got the crunch.
- 45:06SPEAKER_10: The guitar.
- 45:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 45:07SPEAKER_10: You know.
- 45:07SPEAKER_05: That's right.
- 45:08SPEAKER_05: Right here.
- 45:09SPEAKER_12: You play it dead.
- 45:12SPEAKER_12: But you never believe.
- 45:18SPEAKER_14: Oh, let me hear the sound.
- 45:31SPEAKER_02: Still I don't remember.
- 45:39SPEAKER_10: There are not enough power ballads these days.
- 45:42SPEAKER_05: I think, I think.
- 45:44SPEAKER_05: I think world peace could be achieved through a good power ballad.
- 45:47SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 45:48SPEAKER_05: You're not wrong.
- 45:50SPEAKER_10: Every word I said when I said this showed, you know, our ladies that we could be sensitive.
- 46:04SPEAKER_10: But still be manly and raw.
- 46:06SPEAKER_10: Rugged as well.
- 46:07SPEAKER_14: Yeah.
- 46:11SPEAKER_10: And then, of course, a year later, you got this.
- 46:20SPEAKER_10: I remember seeing.
- 46:21SPEAKER_05: More ballad than power.
- 46:22SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 46:23SPEAKER_10: I remember seeing a thing where Neil Sean, the guitar player for Journey, was like, I don't know what to do with this.
- 46:28SPEAKER_05: Oh me either.
- 46:29SPEAKER_05: I'd be like, uh What's happening?
- 46:32SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 46:33SPEAKER_10: But yeah, uh, two of the first, I think, what what you would consider a power ballad.
- 46:38SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 46:38SPEAKER_10: Ario Speedwagon and Journey.
- 46:41SPEAKER_10: And uh what are your favorite power ballads?
- 46:46SPEAKER_05: You know Alone Again by Dawkins.
- 46:48SPEAKER_05: Oh yes.
- 46:49SPEAKER_05: Come on, man.
- 46:50SPEAKER_05: Hold on, hold on.
- 46:54SPEAKER_10: I'll get that on for you.
- 46:55SPEAKER_10: That was awesome.
- 46:56SPEAKER_10: I'll get it on for you.
- 46:57SPEAKER_10: That was a great power ballad.
- 47:01SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
- 47:04SPEAKER_10: But you know, when you were a band in the 80s, you had to have one.
- 47:07SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 47:08SPEAKER_10: The record company insisted because they were so successful.
- 47:12SPEAKER_05: I mean, some bands are known strictly for power ballads.
- 47:16SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 47:22SPEAKER_10: Do you remember?
- 47:22SPEAKER_10: I know you were listening to Firehouse Love of a Lifetime.
- 47:24SPEAKER_10: Do you remember Firehouse's follow-up ballad?
- 47:27SPEAKER_10: No.
- 47:28SPEAKER_10: You don't?
- 47:30SPEAKER_10: I think I tuned out after that.
- 47:32SPEAKER_10: I might have to play that for you.
- 47:36SPEAKER_09: There's your guitar.
- 47:49SPEAKER_05: Another great one.
- 47:50SPEAKER_05: I remember you, Skid Row.
- 48:00SPEAKER_10: Is that what we're doing now?
- 48:02SPEAKER_10: Let's see, Skid Row.
- 48:04SPEAKER_10: We're just kind of skipping around.
- 48:05SPEAKER_05: Yeah, why not?
- 48:07SPEAKER_05: But I mean, you know, if you want to go in chronological order, every you know, Bon Joey's never say goodbye.
- 48:14SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah.
- 48:15SPEAKER_05: I mean, that was the theme of every prom for like three years.
- 48:18SPEAKER_09: And you know.
- 48:19SPEAKER_10: I still think that was a better song than like um a lot of the songs on that album.
- 48:26SPEAKER_10: Oh yeah.
- 48:27SPEAKER_10: And I think it was probably it's could be because of nostalgia.
- 48:29SPEAKER_10: You know, I remember at high school dances and stuff that that song would play um near the end.
- 48:39SPEAKER_10: Not at the end.
- 48:40SPEAKER_10: Oh, two, two.
- 48:41SPEAKER_10: Where is it?
- 48:41SPEAKER_10: Holy cow.
- 48:42SPEAKER_10: Right here.
- 48:48SPEAKER_05: I mean, it's almost the epitome of the power ballad.
- 48:51SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 48:51SPEAKER_05: You know.
- 49:03SPEAKER_10: Can you name any power ballads in the last 10 years?
- 49:08SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 49:09SPEAKER_10: Not even one.
- 49:12SPEAKER_05: Not to my recol not that I would consider really good power ballad.
- 49:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 49:18unknown: Out in the darkness.
- 49:20SPEAKER_05: I don't even think Def Leopard came up with one.
- 49:22SPEAKER_10: Not in the lesson.
- 49:23SPEAKER_05: They've been putting up albums for like, you know, every couple years.
- 49:26SPEAKER_05: Well, let's see.
- 49:27SPEAKER_05: They used to be.
- 49:28SPEAKER_05: I mean, Love Bites.
- 49:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:30SPEAKER_05: Love Bites is an awesome power ballad.
- 49:33SPEAKER_10: You know what I mean?
- 49:34SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 49:35SPEAKER_10: Their um self-titled album came out in 2015.
- 49:39SPEAKER_10: They had a song called We Belong, but you wouldn't hear it.
- 49:42SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 49:43SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 49:43SPEAKER_10: You would you wouldn't hear this on the because what they didn't play it on the radio.
- 49:48SPEAKER_10: It's a great song.
- 49:50SPEAKER_10: Uh Diamond Star Halos did have um this one.
- 49:58SPEAKER_10: Uh, where is it?
- 50:04SPEAKER_10: I'm not sure if I would consider that a power ballad.
- 50:13SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's not a power balance.
- 50:14SPEAKER_10: No.
- 50:15SPEAKER_10: This one.
- 50:22SPEAKER_10: I don't even know if I would consider that a power ballad.
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: Not really.
- 50:25SPEAKER_05: That sounds like.
- 50:28SPEAKER_10: But yeah, you're right.
- 50:30SPEAKER_10: There's really nothing uh in the in the past ten years uh I would say that you can uh consider a power ballad.
- 50:39SPEAKER_10: Um I will play you the follow-up to Firehouse's love of a lifetime.
- 50:43SPEAKER_10: You're gonna kick yourself.
- 50:44SPEAKER_05: Oh, I probably will.
- 50:45SPEAKER_05: I don't.
- 50:47SPEAKER_05: Oh yeah, I do remember this.
- 50:49SPEAKER_10: When I look into your eyes.
- 50:50SPEAKER_05: Yeah, how did I How did I forget this, man?
- 50:58SPEAKER_02: I see you forever when I look in your eyes.
- 51:07SPEAKER_10: This is from their second album, Hold Your Fire.
- 51:11SPEAKER_15: Let's make a promise to the end.
- 51:15SPEAKER_10: Trying to find when was when this came out.
- 51:19SPEAKER_10: It was in the 90s, right?
- 51:21SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 51:27SPEAKER_10: This is a great song.
- 51:30SPEAKER_10: 92, year I graduated high school.
- 51:32SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 51:35SPEAKER_10: You know, the early 90s did have a lot of great rock and roll that that got forgotten because of what came next.
- 51:43SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 51:43SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 51:44SPEAKER_09: Remember Steelheart?
- 51:46SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 51:46SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 51:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I totally forgot about this song.
- 51:55SPEAKER_09: And this listen how big that is.
- 51:56SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 51:57SPEAKER_09: The production.
- 52:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I'm I'm on board with you.
- 52:11SPEAKER_05: And then and then, you know, the big daddy of power ballads, November Rain.
- 52:17SPEAKER_05: I mean, come on.
- 52:19SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 52:20SPEAKER_09: Which was also in the early 90s.
- 52:22SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:24SPEAKER_10: Um that whole that whole um guitar.
- 52:30SPEAKER_05: That solo was amazing.
- 52:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 52:33SPEAKER_10: This was his uh stairway to heaven.
- 52:36SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 52:36SPEAKER_10: I think.
- 52:36SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 52:37SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 52:37SPEAKER_05: I agree.
- 52:38SPEAKER_10: Um I'm not gonna listen to the whole song.
- 52:42SPEAKER_10: Let's go to the let's go to the good part as far as I'm concerned.
- 52:48SPEAKER_10: And then when it when it breaks down and it you have that orchestral right.
- 53:03SPEAKER_10: And I I do like that, you know, even though I'm against like record companies telling you what to do, I do like that they kind of insisted that there be a ballad on there, and only because it's variety.
- 53:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 53:20SPEAKER_10: You know, it's it's it's it's so that the album doesn't all sound the same.
- 53:24SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 53:24SPEAKER_10: But then you had record companies saying, Oh, do another ballad, do another ballot, and then you had five ballads on an album.
- 53:29SPEAKER_05: Yeah, then it all they all sounded the same.
- 53:32SPEAKER_05: Here we go.
- 53:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 53:35SPEAKER_10: Let's give this a listen here.
- 53:40SPEAKER_10: Slash is so expressive playing, dude.
- 53:48SPEAKER_09: I don't think we really appreciated him at the time.
- 53:50SPEAKER_09: I don't think so either.
- 53:51SPEAKER_10: And and you nailed it on the head.
- 53:53SPEAKER_10: I don't know if it was last podcast or the podcast before, uh, when you said that uh he did his well, basically you said he did his best work after Guns N' Roses.
- 54:06SPEAKER_05: Yeah, when he went solo.
- 54:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:07SPEAKER_10: And I think his solo stuff is the best.
- 54:09SPEAKER_10: I agree.
- 54:10SPEAKER_10: I was doing the dishes the other day and I put on uh Spotify put on uh slash and it played stuff from A slash's Snake Pit and the Conspirators, and it's just great.
- 54:22SPEAKER_09: It's awesome.
- 54:23SPEAKER_09: It's riff heavy.
- 54:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 54:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah, it's so good.
- 54:25SPEAKER_10: Yeah, really good.
- 54:26SPEAKER_10: So good.
- 54:26SPEAKER_10: And he's not even my favorite guitarist.
- 54:28SPEAKER_10: No.
- 54:29SPEAKER_10: He's a great guitar player and very it's a he's a signature player.
- 54:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:32SPEAKER_10: You know it's him.
- 54:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:34SPEAKER_10: Uh and he's fantastic, but he's not even like he's not even in my top ten.
- 54:42SPEAKER_10: Top five, maybe.
- 54:43SPEAKER_10: Maybe in my top ten.
- 54:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he might be in my top ten.
- 54:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 54:48SPEAKER_10: This is the part that I like.
- 54:51SPEAKER_10: That's coming up.
- 55:02SPEAKER_10: I love this.
- 55:12SPEAKER_05: And of course we get an Amazon ad.
- 55:15SPEAKER_05: We get a we get an ad right there.
- 55:16SPEAKER_05: Or sweet water, I think.
- 55:17SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:18SPEAKER_05: Here we go.
- 55:22SPEAKER_10: This is epic.
- 55:24SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 55:41SPEAKER_10: And then when they start the when they start singing behind it.
- 55:44SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 55:44SPEAKER_10: I don't even know what they're saying.
- 55:46SPEAKER_05: So it's some sort of chant.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:47SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 55:48SPEAKER_10: But it's awesome.
- 55:49SPEAKER_10: And I'm not a huge Guns N' Roses fan, but I love this song.
- 55:52SPEAKER_10: This song is great.
- 55:53SPEAKER_10: And I love a lot of other Guns N' Roses songs, but.
- 55:58SPEAKER_10: Anyway, I uh wholeheartedly agree with you, Doug, that the world needs more power ballads.
- 56:03SPEAKER_10: Heck yeah.
- 56:04SPEAKER_10: And I think um, you know, wars would be ended.
- 56:06SPEAKER_05: I wouldn't go that far.
- 56:07SPEAKER_10: Well, I mean wars.
- 56:08SPEAKER_05: I think we'd start wars over power ballads.
- 56:12SPEAKER_05: Well, guys, that's what we do.
- 56:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 56:15SPEAKER_10: Um power ballots.
- 57:11SPEAKER_10: Last weekend who does now we we know who this is.
- 57:17SPEAKER_10: So we thought we love this man.
- 57:20SPEAKER_10: So um who does it this week is the winery dog.
- 57:30SPEAKER_10: Of course, Mike Fortnite from Dream Theater.
- 57:51SPEAKER_10: I never really like it.
- 58:18SPEAKER_10: And then Join Ruff.
- 58:23SPEAKER_10: And then we back to the Lord player.
- 58:30SPEAKER_10: Plays with no pick.
- 58:34SPEAKER_10: Uh but they got together and this is a trio and put out some just rip roaring rock and roll.
- 58:40SPEAKER_10: And so he says the song is Oblivion.
- 58:44SPEAKER_10: You've probably heard of them, but if not, just wait to play the music.
- 58:47SPEAKER_10: Love to surprise you, but it's damn near impossible.
- 58:50SPEAKER_10: Um so let's just play the track that Bob wants to hear first.
- 58:54SPEAKER_10: This is Oblivion.
- 59:04SPEAKER_10: By the way, Richie Coxon is the singer as well.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_10: I have two wider dogs albums.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_10: Do you have yeah, there's three, right?
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_10: Is it three?
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_10: Eh, I think so.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_10: Uh this is from the hot streak album, which came out in 2015.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_10: No, I know.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_10: It seems like it was earlier than that.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_09: My word.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_09: Or sooner than that.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_09: Uh they were they've been active since 2012.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_09: I want to see if they have albums here.
- 1:00:46SPEAKER_10: Uh they have a third one.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_10: Oh, that's a Winery Dogs 3.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_10: Yep.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_10: Came out in 2023.
- 1:00:58SPEAKER_09: I will say I wanna go back to uh the album uh from 2013 because I mean this is this is busy, right?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and it's great.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_09: Um what got me onto them was this one.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_10: It's called We Are One from the alb from the debut album in 2013.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_14: Catchy chorus in the Yeah, did you have a did you have one off those two?
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_09: War Machine.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_09: War machine?
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_09: My favorite winery dog stuff.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_09: That's from hot streak, right?
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_09: Or no?
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_05: Thanks for the second one.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_09: Yep, I got it right here.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I love this song.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_14: You got philosophy that you never think You are studying me that's gonna stay Oh, are you study me on?
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_14: Or are you putting me down?
- 1:03:24SPEAKER_10: He doesn't get Richie Cobston doesn't get enough credit for his vocals.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_05: He's very underrated.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_10: Very underrated.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah, man, and the guy's great.
- 1:03:31SPEAKER_10: His guitar play is unreal.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_05: Especially no pick.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_05: I mean, that's oh yeah.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_10: Friggin' insane.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_10: He can play with a pick, he just chooses not to.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_05: When you can play like that without a without a pick, why would you?
- 1:03:44SPEAKER_05: Right.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_09: I still love a true and we just get to uh little Richie Codson action here.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_09: Oh, there's little Billy Sheehan action.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_10: I actually think it works for this band because they're only a trio.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_10: It's only the three of them.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_10: So Billy Sheehan's bass kind of fills that void when there's no other guitar.
- 1:04:14SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_09: See right now, he's playing the solo and all that's behind him is just the bass.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_09: Just like Van early Van Halen.
- 1:04:27SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_10: All right.
- 1:05:05SPEAKER_10: That is this week's Who Disc.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_10: Thank you, Bob the Painter.
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_10: Uh check out Winery Dogs if you have not yet, if you liked what you heard.
- 1:05:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_10: They have three albums out.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_10: Uh the debut album, which is self-titled, one called Hot Streak, which was the second one, and then one called Three.
- 1:05:22SPEAKER_10: There you go.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_10: Uh, and of course, uh Portnoy went back to uh Dream Theater.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_10: Billy Sheen retired Mr.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_10: Big.
- 1:05:29SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_10: Um so I'm not sure.
- 1:05:31SPEAKER_10: Uh he must be trying to get something going.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_05: Oh sure.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_10: Um and Richie Cotton has been uh well he's been with um the guy from Judas Priest.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_10: Um you had the album, didn't you?
- 1:05:43SPEAKER_10: Did you buy the album?
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_10: Richie Coton and uh Oh Yeah, I did.
- 1:05:50SPEAKER_05: Uh what's his face?
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_10: I forgot.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_10: Holy cow.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it was it wasn't it wasn't it was black and white or something like that.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_10: Something like that.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_10: What's Is it uh is it um uh is it is it um uh Smith Adrian Smith, yes uh uh he was from Iron Maiden or is he from Judah?
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_10: I thought he's from Iron Maiden.
- 1:06:15SPEAKER_10: Iron Maiden, yeah, that makes sense.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_10: That makes more sense.
- 1:06:18SPEAKER_10: Uh is he?
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_10: Who is Adrian Smith from?
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_10: I always thought it was Maiden, but maybe I'm wrong.
- 1:06:25SPEAKER_05: Pretty sure he's Maiden.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_10: He's actually a United States representative.
- 1:06:29SPEAKER_10: No, just kidding.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_10: That's not the guy! Adrian Smith guitar.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_10: Uh English guitar.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_10: Yep, Iron Maiden.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, sorry.
- 1:06:38SPEAKER_10: So yeah, uh Richie Conson did an album or two with Adrian Smith, uh, which is pretty good, actually.
- 1:06:46SPEAKER_10: Most of it, well, the song that we heard was was Yeah, the song was good, but the al the whole album is kind of meh.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_10: It's not not good.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_10: Hit and miss.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_10: That's a shame.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_10: But anyway, um, so check out some winery dogs.
- 1:06:58SPEAKER_06: Yeah, me.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_06: You won't be disappointed.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_10: Uh alright.
- 1:07:02SPEAKER_10: Uh I have to ask you a question.
- 1:07:04SPEAKER_10: Wait, am I asking you?
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_10: I can't I don't remember.
- 1:07:06SPEAKER_10: Whose turn is it?
- 1:07:07SPEAKER_10: What's what was the last question?
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_10: The last one was uh let's see.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_10: The last one was the meteor.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_10: Well, that was you, so this is mine.
- 1:07:15SPEAKER_10: So I'm asking you?
- 1:07:16SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:07:18SPEAKER_05: Uh wait, you sure the meteor was the last one?
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_05: Okay.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_10: Meteor Earth is about to be struck.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_10: Um, all right.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_10: This one is called Kicking the Clydesdales.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_10: This sounds painful.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:07:36SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_10: Hopefully this is appropriate.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_10: Let us assume a fully grown, completely healthy Clydesdale horse has his hooves shackled to the ground while his head is held in place with thick rope.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_10: He is conscious and standing upright, but completely immobile.
- 1:07:59SPEAKER_10: And let us assume that for some reason, every political prisoner on earth, as cited by Amnesty International, will be released from captivity if you can kick this horse to death in fewer than twenty minutes.
- 1:08:18SPEAKER_10: You are allowed to wear steel toe boots.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_10: This is the stupidest question I've ever heard.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_10: Would you attempt to do this?
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_10: No! That is really dumb, isn't it?
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_10: That's so freaking stupid.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_10: This is one of the ones that uh because remember I told you I looked at a couple of these.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_10: This isn't one of them, but I looked at a couple of these questions and I was like, I'm not asking that.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's just that's dumb.
- 1:08:40SPEAKER_10: It is dumb.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_05: I would do that.
- 1:08:43SPEAKER_10: For every political prisoner on earth will be released from captivity if you kick this horse to death.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_10: Nah.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_10: The horse lives! My word.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's I don't even yeah.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_10: Yeah, screw that, man.
- 1:08:55SPEAKER_10: Chuck Klosterman, come on, do better.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_05: Do better, dude.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: Do better.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_05: That's dumb.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_05: That is dumb.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_05: That's dumb with a capital B.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_05: Right?
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_05: Dumba.
- 1:09:02SPEAKER_05: Dumba.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_05: Dumba.
- 1:09:04SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_10: Uh, have you heard from I have heard from the judge.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_10: You have heard from the judge.
- 1:09:09SPEAKER_10: Okay, so let's let's go ahead and because we did let's see, we did who dis.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_10: We did hypotheticals.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_10: It's time, right?
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_10: It is.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_10: It's time.
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_00: It's time for everyone's favorite part of the show.
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_00: With everyone's favorites, O'Brien, Doug, Cousin Larry, and yours truly, Miss Judge Ness.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_00: It's time to play mixtape, mixtape.
- 1:09:36SPEAKER_10: So last week's question.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_10: Let's see if I can.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_10: Did you leave it in here?
- 1:09:41SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, it's behind the.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_10: Last week's question was You're off the coast of Australia, about to swim with a great white shark, no cage.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_10: What song gives you the courage to jump into the water?
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_10: Are you ready?
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:09:57SPEAKER_05: Here's the judge.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, those were fun picks for this week.
- 1:10:03SPEAKER_00: I think it probably was hard to try and find a song to get you amped up to jump into open water with great whites.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_00: Um I don't think I would.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_00: I'm with cousin Larry.
- 1:10:13SPEAKER_00: I don't think I could do it sober.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_00: That's terrifying.
- 1:10:16SPEAKER_00: Um but I had to go with O'Brien's pick.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: Uh what was it?
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: Death Leopard, Let's Go.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah.
- 1:10:23SPEAKER_00: And uh I agree with him.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: The lyrics of Are you sure you really want to do this?
- 1:10:28SPEAKER_00: And then let's just do this.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_10: Let's go.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_10: Let's go! Yeah, very cool.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_10: Nice! I think that's two in a row for me.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_10: Right?
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_10: Is it?
- 1:10:35SPEAKER_10: I well maybe not.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 1:10:37SPEAKER_10: I don't remember either.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_05: Imagine if we kept score.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_05: Almost.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_05: I don't remember.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_05: We would have been like, who's scoring now?
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_10: I don't know.
- 1:10:45SPEAKER_10: I don't know what's happening.
- 1:10:47SPEAKER_10: Uh alright, so let's do this week's question.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_10: Come on.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_10: Have you heard from Cousin Larry?
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_10: Yes, sir.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_10: You've just won a five-minute free-for-all shopping spree.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_10: At the starting line, shopping cart in front of you.
- 1:11:05SPEAKER_10: What song plays as you dash around the store?
- 1:11:09SPEAKER_10: Do we have just Cousin Larry?
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_10: Or is Justin taking part?
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_05: No, just I didn't hear from Justin.
- 1:11:13SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:11:14SPEAKER_10: So what song from Cousin Larry?
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_05: Alright, mixtape.
- 1:11:17SPEAKER_05: I am not much of a shopper, so I had to think about this one a little.
- 1:11:21SPEAKER_05: I think Money Talks by ACDC would be a good one, but I have exhausted them for a few weeks.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_05: Money by Pink Floyd would be a good one, and maybe Dire Straits Money for Nothing, since the shopping spree is free.
- 1:11:34SPEAKER_05: Since this is only five minutes a song, the final countdown comes to mind.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_05: But my first thought was I want it all by Queen, so I will go with that.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_05: Honorable mention to Alabama's I'm in a hurry.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_05: Oh, I meant to ask if the chicks are free when mentioning money for nothing.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_10: This is a great choice.
- 1:11:52SPEAKER_05: Yes.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_09: Oh, wait.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_06: What is this?
- 1:12:03SPEAKER_09: This must be a radio mix.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_10: Oh.
- 1:12:12SPEAKER_10: A remix or something?
- 1:12:24SPEAKER_10: Hold on.
- 1:12:25SPEAKER_10: This is I mean, that's nice, but we gotta play the real.
- 1:12:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I gotta hear the we gun now.
- 1:12:32SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
- 1:12:33SPEAKER_10: Uh I mean I I dig that, but let's uh let's find I have it.
- 1:12:41unknown: Come on, come on.
- 1:12:46SPEAKER_10: There it is.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_05: Such a break bit.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_05: Oh I know, right?
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_10: Cool, cool pick.
- 1:13:57SPEAKER_10: He always has the best one.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_10: I love it.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_05: He should be winning every week.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_10: You're right.
- 1:14:01SPEAKER_10: Alright, what's yours?
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_05: I picked Can't Buy Me Stuff by the Beatles.
- 1:14:06SPEAKER_05: It's actually called Can't Buy Me Love.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_10: That would get you motivated to uh get going?
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_05: Yeah, man.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_10: The Beatles.
- 1:14:13SPEAKER_10: Great song.
- 1:14:16SPEAKER_05: I I have to do the alternate Jason Cain lyrics.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_05: Can't buy me stuff Jason Cain.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_10: Wow.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_05: I love that guy.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_05: I wonder what he's doing now.
- 1:14:25SPEAKER_05: No idea.
- 1:14:27SPEAKER_05: Think he's got a kid in college?
- 1:14:29SPEAKER_10: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:31SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_10: Oh, I gotta start that over.
- 1:14:35SPEAKER_10: Someone.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_15: I'll get you anything, my friend, the big stuff feel alright.
- 1:14:55SPEAKER_15: I don't get to watch the money, what I got, but it's all give you all I've got to do if it's a bit too big to do.
- 1:15:09SPEAKER_15: What I got to do.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_15: I don't get to what's the money, what I got to do, bitch.
- 1:15:26SPEAKER_15: No, no, no, no.
- 1:15:28SPEAKER_10: Ah, that awesome pick.
- 1:15:30SPEAKER_10: Awesome pick.
- 1:15:31SPEAKER_10: Um, I went for a vibe.
- 1:15:33SPEAKER_10: All right, because it didn't say it had to be about like shopping or buying or anything like that.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_10: But I I it was like what's what's playing when you start your five-minute free-for-all uh shopping spree, and I had to go with um something just to to pump me up here.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_10: And of course now my internet is not working.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_10: Young kid.
- 1:16:35SPEAKER_06: A youngster, a youngster.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_10: Yeah, that's what we were playing if I was uh going on a shopping spree.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_10: Uh for five minutes, because it's actually five minutes, or roughly.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_10: So the time's out.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_10: Well, I Want It All by Queen is also five minutes, so good job.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_10: There we go.
- 1:17:04SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_10: Uh noise.
- 1:17:07SPEAKER_10: Uh, and of course, yours was uh Can't Buy Me Love by the Beatles.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_10: Uh, you'd have to play that twice in order to finish the five minute shopping spree.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_10: That's all right.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_10: That's okay.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_10: Hearing it twice would be just fine.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_06: That's awesome.
- 1:17:19SPEAKER_10: Um all right, there you go.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_10: We are going to uh take a break.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_10: Ah, we gotta do next week's question.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_10: Oh, thank you.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_10: Thank you, thank you.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_06: Alright.
- 1:17:30SPEAKER_06: So we can smack.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_06: You are not really.
- 1:17:34SPEAKER_05: So next week's question is riding a lion to work in slow motion.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_10: Riding a lion to work in slow motion.
- 1:17:46SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:17:47SPEAKER_10: So a la chariots of fire.
- 1:17:50SPEAKER_10: You're in slow motion.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_10: What song is playing?
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_10: Correct.
- 1:17:53SPEAKER_10: Don't pick chariots of fire.
- 1:17:54SPEAKER_10: Don't pick chariots of fire.
- 1:17:55SPEAKER_10: Alright, you can.
- 1:17:56SPEAKER_10: Riding a lion to work in slow motion.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_05: We're not, we're not, you know.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_05: We're not a bunch of jerks here.
- 1:18:04SPEAKER_10: Well.
- 1:18:05SPEAKER_05: No, you are.
- 1:18:06SPEAKER_10: True.
- 1:18:08SPEAKER_10: Uh.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_05: You're a big jerk face.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_10: Happy Halloween.
- 1:18:14SPEAKER_10: Be kind, prick.
- 1:18:17SPEAKER_10: Uh, we're gonna take a break.

- 1:19:40SPEAKER_10: Um we are going to do this, but I want to get this queued up because uh well, because I didn't, and I forgot, and here we go.
- 1:19:49SPEAKER_06: Oh no, no.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_10: Are we ready?
- 1:19:52SPEAKER_10: Can we do this?
- 1:19:53SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_10: Go ahead.
- 1:19:55SPEAKER_10: I think I'm ready.
- 1:19:56SPEAKER_10: I think I'm ready.
- 1:19:57SPEAKER_10: We'll see.
- 1:19:58SPEAKER_01: Go on now! O'Brien and Doug's wall.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_01: Oh, two, two.
- 1:20:02SPEAKER_01: It's time for O'Brien and Doug's smash or trash.
- 1:20:07SPEAKER_01: Oh, it's really just O'Brien's.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_10: It is.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_10: It is really just O'Brien's.
- 1:20:11SPEAKER_10: Okay, so on the chopping block for this week was uh this album from The Very Soulful Uh Joe Cocker.
- 1:20:24SPEAKER_10: And oh, actually, I didn't have that in my article.
- 1:20:28SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I was gonna say we got it off uh we got it off YouTube.
- 1:20:30SPEAKER_10: So let's let's let's uh let me just play uh I'll play this one because it was a single uh and it was one that I played on the radio when I was on the X, uh, which I really liked.
- 1:20:45SPEAKER_10: Simple things.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_10: Uh it's the album Have a Little Faith, uh, which came out in what did I say, 94?
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_10: Something like that.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_09: Um we start with Jeff?
- 1:20:59SPEAKER_09: Jeffrey! Let's see what Jeff says.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_09: I think I read what Jeff said.
- 1:21:03SPEAKER_09: Actually, I'm not sure if I read what Jeff said.
- 1:21:06SPEAKER_10: Maybe I did.
- 1:21:07SPEAKER_10: I got the waves.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_10: Where is he?
- 1:21:12SPEAKER_10: Right there.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_10: Okay.
- 1:21:15SPEAKER_10: Here we go.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_10: No, I did read it because I responded to it.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_10: Hello.
- 1:21:21SPEAKER_10: Uh so Jeff says, man, don't lead with I don't listen to it.
- 1:21:26SPEAKER_10: Because now I feel guilty telling you to smash it.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_10: Oh! Oh hold on.
- 1:21:30SPEAKER_10: I don't even have these open yet.
- 1:21:36SPEAKER_10: So Jeff says this is a smash.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_10: And he continues, I like Joe, although I admit sometimes his voice sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles or just a really sore throat sometimes.
- 1:21:56SPEAKER_10: True story.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_10: There aren't a lot of artists like him today, uh, with a soulful, gritty, and unpolished, perfect sound.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he's not wrong.
- 1:22:08SPEAKER_10: Um, my my uh don't get it.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_10: Uh let's see, my son is responsible.
- 1:22:23SPEAKER_10: Um let me go to that room.
- 1:22:27SPEAKER_10: Bouncing Bob.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_09: Bob! Bounce and Bob! Not Bob the painter.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_09: Bounce and Bob! Bouncin Bob.
- 1:22:34SPEAKER_10: Bouncin' Bob says Oh, oh, and he's got a challenge too.
- 1:22:39SPEAKER_06: Oh.
- 1:22:41SPEAKER_10: Oh, let's see.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_10: Uh, he's got a couple messages from Bob, actually.
- 1:22:53SPEAKER_10: Alright.
- 1:22:55SPEAKER_10: Um his verdict is also Smash.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_12: Smash!
- 1:23:04SPEAKER_10: Uh he says I've got too many tabs open here, trying to keep track.
- 1:23:09SPEAKER_10: What makes Smash or Trash so fun is learning something new about artists.
- 1:23:14SPEAKER_10: This week I learned that Joe Cocker was more than a loud voice.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_10: In this album, he shocked me with his voice, some of his older stuff from his Woodstock performance, and in the album Mag Dogs and Englishman, I thought of him as a showman with a wild and loud voice.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_10: I was impressed with each song and liked each one.
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_10: Nice.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_10: Yeah, he I mean this is it's a it's a great album.
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_10: It's a great album.
- 1:23:37SPEAKER_10: So he said he says smash.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_10: Um let me let me read you what he said uh for because he's got a couple ideas here.
- 1:23:46SPEAKER_05: Well, let's finish this and then we'll go back.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_10: Okay, okay.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_10: So that's two smashes.
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_10: Uh, do we have anybody else?
- 1:23:51SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_10: Did you get anything?
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah, I did, I did.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_10: I got something from the judge.
- 1:23:55SPEAKER_10: Okay, good.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_10: I got cousin Larry.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_10: Cousin Larry said, Um I have that same Joe Cocker album.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_10: I really like him and feel he's a bit underrated sometimes.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_10: Hang on to it and give it a listen.
- 1:24:09SPEAKER_10: Smash.
- 1:24:10SPEAKER_10: So that is three.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_10: Smash.
- 1:24:16SPEAKER_05: Alright.
- 1:24:18SPEAKER_05: So this is what the judge said.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_05: As for smash or trash, if you love the artist but only like the album and have more of his work that you love, I say trash.
- 1:24:30SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 1:24:31SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:24:37SPEAKER_10: Doug, what do you say?
- 1:24:39SPEAKER_10: I say smash.
- 1:24:40SPEAKER_10: Alright, that's uh four.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_10: Four for smash.
- 1:24:46SPEAKER_10: And you know, I um I really like this album too.
- 1:24:50SPEAKER_10: I it's it's a it's one thing I like about Smash or Trash is yes, I'm trying to clean out, right?
- 1:24:58SPEAKER_10: And there's a r the the one of the reasons uh that I'm doing this is because I don't listen to these.
- 1:25:07SPEAKER_10: But you forget how much you like an album.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:25:10SPEAKER_10: And I really like Joe Cocker, and I really like this album.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_10: So uh it's almost unanimous.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_10: Almost.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_10: I think Miss Judgeness is uh she had a point.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_10: Yes.
- 1:25:24SPEAKER_10: Um, and she's practical.
- 1:25:26SPEAKER_10: She's practical, and I and I get that, and I appreciate that, and I think that's the nature of this whole bit.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_10: Right.
- 1:25:31SPEAKER_10: Um, so I'm not holding that against her.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_10: But I think, yeah, we're gonna keep it.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_10: Oh, I don't know.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_10: I don't know what that I don't know.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_10: What is happening?
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_10: Uh oh, it was a commercial.
- 1:25:40SPEAKER_10: Um yeah, we're gonna keep it.
- 1:25:42SPEAKER_10: Joe Cocker, have a little faith.
- 1:25:44SPEAKER_10: I have another Joe Cocker uh as well that that is not on the list.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_10: Um actually I have two or three Joe Cockers.
- 1:25:51SPEAKER_10: Um are you ready for this week's?
- 1:25:53SPEAKER_10: Yeah! Okay, so I have a feeling I know what this one is going to be for most people.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_10: But I do want I do want to get it out there.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_10: Um because this is a one-off album.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_10: And it is here's why I think a lot of people are gonna try it.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_10: Uh because it's it's it's old country.
- 1:26:17SPEAKER_10: Um but it is great.
- 1:26:19SPEAKER_10: It is a great album.
- 1:26:21SPEAKER_10: Uh it's by a Americana or old country artist from Australia named Casey Chambers.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_10: And her husband at the time.
- 1:26:34SPEAKER_10: Shane Nicholson is also an Australian uh artist.
- 1:26:37SPEAKER_10: Um and he's more of a he's more of a uh he's not really a country artist.
- 1:26:46SPEAKER_10: I guess I really can't describe it.
- 1:26:50SPEAKER_10: It's more mainstream, but it's still really good.
- 1:26:55SPEAKER_10: This was different.
- 1:26:56SPEAKER_10: Uh this is an album by Casey Chambers and Shane Nicholson.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_10: Uh that was loud.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_10: Um called Rattling Bones.
- 1:27:05SPEAKER_10: Uh, and I just love the harmonies and just the feel of this album.
- 1:27:09SPEAKER_02: Um so just give you a little taste of it small sum.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_02: Dragon spaghetti
- 1:28:05SPEAKER_10: So you get the gist of that one.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:28:07SPEAKER_10: Let me uh move on here.
- 1:28:10SPEAKER_02: If you don't see card in your What?
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_05: What's that look for?
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_05: It can't be Americana if they're from Australia.
- 1:28:28SPEAKER_05: Good point.
- 1:28:29SPEAKER_09: Australia Kana.
- 1:28:33SPEAKER_09: This would be traditional country.
- 1:28:34SPEAKER_09: This is definitely country.
- 1:28:37SPEAKER_05: But listen to those harmonies.
- 1:28:38SPEAKER_05: Yeah, they're great.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_05: Remind me of uh like uh the Civil Wars.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:29:02SPEAKER_10: You get the gist of that one.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_10: Let me do this one.
- 1:29:04SPEAKER_10: I like this one too.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_02: Everyone's got the monkey on the water.
- 1:29:42SPEAKER_10: You know, it's n it's it's it's not the stuff that's on the radio.
- 1:29:46SPEAKER_10: No, no, which I like.
- 1:29:48SPEAKER_10: Monkey on the water I'm gonna do one more, but I don't know which one.
- 1:29:53SPEAKER_10: Let's see.
- 1:29:54SPEAKER_10: Is it this do I like this one?
- 1:29:55SPEAKER_10: I mean I like them all, but um Okay.
- 1:30:00SPEAKER_02: One, two, one, two, three.
- 1:30:06SPEAKER_02: It's your turn, James.
- 1:30:09SPEAKER_07: Everyone's had a turn.
- 1:30:11SPEAKER_07: Everyone look at James, alright?
- 1:30:15SPEAKER_02: One, two, one, two, three.
- 1:30:23SPEAKER_10: That's not the one I wanted to play.
- 1:30:26SPEAKER_10: Neither's that.
- 1:30:28SPEAKER_07: No one cry.
- 1:30:36SPEAKER_07: No one cry.
- 1:30:51SPEAKER_10: Very haunting.
- 1:30:53SPEAKER_07: No.
- 1:30:54SPEAKER_07: One cry.
- 1:30:57SPEAKER_10: This is from 2008, by the way.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_10: This is quite quite old.
- 1:31:00SPEAKER_10: Well, I say quite old, but I mean well, it's almost 20 years old.
- 1:31:03SPEAKER_10: Right, yeah.
- 1:31:07SPEAKER_10: But they put out, I don't think they put out any other albums besides this one.
- 1:31:13SPEAKER_10: Let me double check that.
- 1:31:18SPEAKER_02: Soviets.
- 1:31:26unknown: No.
- 1:31:26SPEAKER_10: Yeah, this was the only album they did.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_10: Anyway, uh the name of the album is Rattling Bones by Casey Chambers and Shane Nicholson.
- 1:31:38SPEAKER_10: So that is what's on the chopping block this week.
- 1:31:42SPEAKER_10: Let me know your thoughts.
- 1:31:45SPEAKER_10: And that's it.
