- 3:00Speaker 1: sounding good here.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Just want to make sure jail here. How long have
- 3:06Speaker 2: I known you? Early days of.
- 3:09Speaker 1: I can't say early days of Sherry Lamberton because Sherry
- 3:12Speaker 1: Lamberton goes back like a couple hundred years.
- 3:15Speaker 3: I'm known Serry about eighteen years.
- 3:16Speaker 2: Cheese. Wow. And that's where I met you.
- 3:19Speaker 1: Yes, And I think the last time I may have
- 3:23Speaker 1: seen you was over at the Carry Park.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Was a Currer park, was at the American Legion.
- 3:29Speaker 4: Was carry a park really on vacation, and I went out,
- 3:33Speaker 4: bug deack, what what?
- 3:35Speaker 2: God? Listen.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I think it's great that we're here. We're out on
- 3:42Speaker 1: the We're out on the streets of Barry. We're out
- 3:44Speaker 1: on main street this morning. Even though it's cloudy and
- 3:47Speaker 1: a little drizzly and a little windy, it's a beautiful day, man,
- 3:52Speaker 1: and we're alive.
- 3:53Speaker 3: That's right.
- 3:54Speaker 1: You know you are doing you're you're a big part
- 3:58Speaker 1: of the heading United.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Methodist Church, right, Yes, I am okay.
- 4:03Speaker 4: Pastor Ray over there, Yes, wonderful, wonderful person.
- 4:06Speaker 2: Yes, it's great. Yeah. Yeah. What is she doing with you?
- 4:11Speaker 2: She's doing some peer ministries.
- 4:13Speaker 4: Well, she wants me to do peer ministries because, like
- 4:16Speaker 4: you said, I'm on the streets. I have my own apartment,
- 4:20Speaker 4: but I come down here talk to my friends. I
- 4:23Speaker 4: call her my friends. Well actually to the point, now
- 4:26Speaker 4: we're family. I mean I sit here in the middle
- 4:30Speaker 4: and everybody surrounds me. Now I don't know if it's
- 4:34Speaker 4: because I'm the oldest, but I was in I give advice,
- 4:39Speaker 4: you know, I've helped with. Yes, I'm gonna med money, food,
- 4:47Speaker 4: and a couple of.
- 4:48Speaker 3: Stories real quickly.
- 4:50Speaker 2: Please, how I were here.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Last year, I was walking through the park. I saw
- 4:54Speaker 4: some of my I'm gonna say family, okay, because they are.
- 4:58Speaker 4: And one of them had these foot flops on and
- 5:02Speaker 4: the straps were broken. I had just bought these brand
- 5:06Speaker 4: new sneakers. I took them off and gave.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Them to her.
- 5:10Speaker 4: I walked home in my socks, you know. And it's
- 5:14Speaker 4: not that I feel bad, but I've been there. I'm
- 5:19Speaker 4: an ex add it. I've been homeless. I've been through
- 5:23Speaker 4: some of.
- 5:23Speaker 3: The stuff that they have been through.
- 5:25Speaker 4: And I think it kind of helps them to know
- 5:29Speaker 4: that I care and I will listen to their stories.
- 5:33Speaker 4: You know, you have to have kindness, and that's what
- 5:36Speaker 4: I do. And they highly respect me. When I'm sitting here,
- 5:40Speaker 4: they all come over. They'll say hi to me going
- 5:43Speaker 4: down the street. So Pastay came up with this thing
- 5:47Speaker 4: about being a pay a minister ministry. Excuse me because
- 5:52Speaker 4: I'm out here and you know, and it just in
- 5:57Speaker 4: some ways it does break my heart because I know
- 6:00Speaker 4: how it feels. You know, nobody was there for me
- 6:04Speaker 4: when I was homeless and going through the stuff I
- 6:06Speaker 4: went through. I want to be there for them.
- 6:09Speaker 3: I mean, I'm not.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Rich, but I have a heart and I think that's
- 6:15Speaker 4: what you need. I was walking down the street last
- 6:19Speaker 4: week and saw somebody. Yes they were an addict. I'm
- 6:23Speaker 4: not going to mention no names, and I know her
- 6:27Speaker 4: and we were talking. I went a cigarette together, and
- 6:31Speaker 4: when we got done talking, I gave a hob as
- 6:35Speaker 4: she cried.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Now, I don't know if has anybody done that only
- 6:43Speaker 3: or because you knows. I'm there And I volunteer at
- 6:50Speaker 3: heading church.
- 6:52Speaker 4: I do donations where I sort out clothes and stuff
- 6:58Speaker 4: like that. So when they go to the community on
- 7:00Speaker 4: Friday night, there's tables of clothes that you know, bacon
- 7:06Speaker 4: grab and I make sure it's full every Friday night.
- 7:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, we have the fruit shell.
- 7:12Speaker 4: You know, diaper depot, I mean everything, and it's getting
- 7:18Speaker 4: to me.
- 7:19Speaker 3: A little bit. But that's okay. And you know, I
- 7:23Speaker 3: don't know.
- 7:24Speaker 4: I think, like I said, I think it's because I've
- 7:27Speaker 4: been there, you know, I you know, did pills, snorted,
- 7:34Speaker 4: did coke a couple of times, whiskey, vodka, beer, And
- 7:39Speaker 4: I think at times that time it's because I felt
- 7:43Speaker 4: like I was helpless and nobody was there.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I have Friday commits suicide a couple of times.
- 7:50Speaker 4: I'm a burner with cigarettes cutter and the only way
- 7:55Speaker 4: that I really got help is through Washington County Mental
- 7:59Speaker 4: Health client and I go to Sunrise Awesome some program. Yes,
- 8:08Speaker 4: And my kind of my attitude is if I'm sitting
- 8:12Speaker 4: here with my I call them my family.
- 8:15Speaker 3: Doesn't mean it doesn't matter if they're homeless.
- 8:18Speaker 4: They have a place to live, but they're going through problems.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I don't want to lose out, you know, because they
- 8:28Speaker 4: know that I will be there. I might not have
- 8:34Speaker 4: money all the time. I'm not rich, but I have
- 8:37Speaker 4: a rich heart. And I think with the experience, I mean,
- 8:42Speaker 4: knowing what they're going through is helping me help them.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Of course, And you know, and if there's a bunch
- 8:53Speaker 3: of us, even.
- 8:53Speaker 4: A few of us, sit and we all say goodbye.
- 8:56Speaker 4: We give everybody a hug saying, we say I love you,
- 9:00Speaker 4: and then they'll say, do you know we'll see it
- 9:02Speaker 4: tomorrow so we can talk.
- 9:05Speaker 3: You know.
- 9:06Speaker 4: And someone said to me that don't focus on yourself. Well, JD,
- 9:11Speaker 4: I'm not focusing on myself.
- 9:13Speaker 3: I'm not looking for glory. I'm not looking for anything.
- 9:17Speaker 4: I just want to let people know that these people
- 9:21Speaker 4: on the street do need help.
- 9:23Speaker 3: They don't know where to go.
- 9:25Speaker 4: If we can let them know where to go where
- 9:27Speaker 4: they can get help, then we.
- 9:29Speaker 3: Have accomplished something.
- 9:31Speaker 4: And that's what I wanted them. You know, if one
- 9:35Speaker 4: of them comes over and reaches a hand out to
- 9:37Speaker 4: me and say, GINO, I really need help.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Okay, come with me and we'll do what we can.
- 9:44Speaker 3: And I pray to God every day to give.
- 9:46Speaker 4: Me the strength and the courage to do what I'm doing.
- 9:50Speaker 4: I will always love them. I was always sit with them.
- 9:53Speaker 4: I'll always listen and give them advice. Maybe it's not
- 9:56Speaker 4: the best advice, but I try.
- 9:59Speaker 2: You know, you're the real deal.
- 10:02Speaker 1: You know, you know you're you're the You're the the
- 10:06Speaker 1: example of someone who's on a real glassroots level, a
- 10:11Speaker 1: mover and a shaker. You're you're the one that's You're
- 10:16Speaker 1: also you know, really somewhat of an example of kind
- 10:25Speaker 1: of a success story of you can you can get
- 10:30Speaker 1: an apartment, you can kind of turn your life around,
- 10:32Speaker 1: you can get clean.
- 10:36Speaker 2: Are you clean?
- 10:37Speaker 3: Yes? I am nine years May.
- 10:39Speaker 2: First, really nine years.
- 10:43Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 10:43Speaker 4: I tell my life around, not just for me, but
- 10:47Speaker 4: for my son, you know. And I know it was
- 10:50Speaker 4: rough on him seeing me that sometimes the way I was,
- 10:54Speaker 4: and it hurt me.
- 10:56Speaker 2: But for someone to.
- 11:00Speaker 1: For someone to get clean, get their life together, get
- 11:03Speaker 1: an apartment, get some real things figured out, to be
- 11:10Speaker 1: still connected with a community.
- 11:14Speaker 2: That is on that dark road, that dark path that
- 11:19Speaker 2: you were on.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yes, that's really that really says something about you, because
- 11:24Speaker 1: a lot of people that get clean, they have to
- 11:27Speaker 1: completely wipe the slate clean and start fresh and not be.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Connected, you know, jay Dene, And they are connected.
- 11:37Speaker 4: Yes, every day I'm out here, even if I don't
- 11:40Speaker 4: need anything, I just come here.
- 11:44Speaker 3: So they know that I am here, and they always.
- 11:48Speaker 4: Say to me, some of them call me mom, com
- 11:51Speaker 4: are you going to be.
- 11:52Speaker 3: Here tomorrow at this time? Yes, I am meet me here,
- 11:56Speaker 3: be here.
- 11:57Speaker 4: In fact, before you showed up, somebody I know that
- 12:02Speaker 4: is homeless, cold, want a cup of coffee, something to eat,
- 12:07Speaker 4: and I gave fin dollars.
- 12:10Speaker 3: I might not have it all the time and they
- 12:12Speaker 3: know that, and they.
- 12:13Speaker 4: Respect me because I respect them no matter who they are.
- 12:18Speaker 3: I don't put them down.
- 12:20Speaker 4: I don't look at them differently because I know, I
- 12:25Speaker 4: know how hard it is, you know, and addiction is
- 12:29Speaker 4: one of the most hardest things that you can get over.
- 12:34Speaker 4: I relapsed, got back on my feet. I relapsed, got
- 12:38Speaker 4: back on my feet. It might take, you know, a
- 12:42Speaker 4: few times to do it, but you can do it.
- 12:48Speaker 4: Just reach out, ask somebody for help, ask me. I'm here,
- 12:54Speaker 4: I will help you. We can make phone calls Dali Vista.
- 12:58Speaker 4: These places in New YMA. This place is in Massachusetts,
- 13:03Speaker 4: you know. And you got Washington County, this therapist, outcatient,
- 13:09Speaker 4: anything that you think you need.
- 13:13Speaker 3: And I look at it like if I sit here fifteen.
- 13:17Speaker 4: Minutes, an hour, two hours, the hours you're not doing
- 13:21Speaker 4: it because you're with me, and that itself, JD JD
- 13:29Speaker 4: is an accomplishment to them, not to me.
- 13:34Speaker 1: You know, you know, I had a conversation in the
- 13:37Speaker 1: car yesterday with with with Lily and were she was
- 13:42Speaker 1: talking about things that she wants to be or could be,
- 13:47Speaker 1: and you know, she talked about being a veterinarian, she
- 13:50Speaker 1: talked about being a firefighter.
- 13:55Speaker 2: I even said, you know, you could be an astronaut,
- 13:57Speaker 2: and she looked at me and she was like really bad,
- 14:00Speaker 2: you know.
- 14:01Speaker 1: But I mean we talked about all these things that
- 14:05Speaker 1: she could do with her life, and I said to her,
- 14:10Speaker 1: you can do anything that you want to do.
- 14:14Speaker 2: If you want to do it badly enough.
- 14:17Speaker 1: And that's one of the big takeaways that we've had
- 14:21Speaker 1: in conversations with folks that are using and trying to
- 14:27Speaker 1: get clean or whatever. You can have all of the
- 14:30Speaker 1: resources in the world. There's tons of resources around here,
- 14:34Speaker 1: my god. I mean they're everywhere on a state level,
- 14:38Speaker 1: on a local level. I mean, you've got Capstone, You've
- 14:40Speaker 1: got all these churches, but you've got Value Vista and
- 14:43Speaker 1: many other rehab centers and whatnot. But man, it's like,
- 14:50Speaker 1: if you don't want to do it badly enough, you
- 14:55Speaker 1: can have all the resources in the world and that
- 14:57Speaker 1: ain't gonna amount to shit. That's I think You've got
- 15:01Speaker 1: to You've got to want it. Men, You've got to
- 15:04Speaker 1: really want to do it.
- 15:06Speaker 5: It's not going to be really heard.
- 15:08Speaker 2: I think some don't know where to go.
- 15:12Speaker 3: They're confused within themselves.
- 15:16Speaker 2: They think that.
- 15:20Speaker 4: Maybe they're bad because of the things that they do.
- 15:23Speaker 4: But I'm telling you, you've all had a rough life.
- 15:27Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:29Speaker 4: When I was growing up, you know, it was like physical, sexual, mental,
- 15:35Speaker 4: emotional reviews. And I think that's what made me turn
- 15:40Speaker 4: to popping pills, drinking whiskey vodka.
- 15:44Speaker 3: I'm I'm and I'm a runner, and things bother me.
- 15:48Speaker 4: I used to run and not tell anybody because I
- 15:50Speaker 4: had to be in my own mind and figure out
- 15:55Speaker 4: what is going on and there is how if you
- 16:02Speaker 4: don't know where to go or what to do for
- 16:05Speaker 4: the next step, come to me. I'm new in PA ministry,
- 16:09Speaker 4: but like I said.
- 16:11Speaker 3: You're my family. I'll be here. You know, I'm here
- 16:15Speaker 3: every day. Come to me.
- 16:17Speaker 4: We'll talk, ask me for advice, anything to get you
- 16:24Speaker 4: through what is going what you're going through. And people
- 16:28Speaker 4: don't realize that maybe there's a lot of stuff that's happened.
- 16:33Speaker 3: In their life that made them turn to an addiction.
- 16:39Speaker 1: We don't know that, but my god, it could happen
- 16:41Speaker 1: to any of us. Man, yes, and I will that.
- 16:44Speaker 1: I don't care if you're some fancy bank executive where.
- 16:48Speaker 5: I saw the.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Spies people because exact posts.
- 17:37Speaker 7: People supports, lags.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Apps themselves and.
- 19:39Speaker 5: Dies stas said now back in
- 22:00Speaker 7: The interplay bated
