- 0:01Some believe that it is impossible to change Human
- 0:05Nature. They repeat the proverb that
- 0:08when cannot straighten out a dog's tail, but it will return
- 0:11to, its former status time. And again, some become
- 0:16frustrated and essentially fight with their body, vital being or
- 0:20mind wherever the movement, they desire to change.
- 0:23Resides some try to suppress the movement with force and some
- 0:29through intimidation of torturing the body, when an
- 0:32Impulse arises, which they do not want to accept.
- 0:36The hair shirt, the sillies, the self-flagellation all arise out
- 0:41of the attempt to change human nature, with violence impatience
- 0:46and overpowering force. The sad thing is these methods
- 0:51simply do not work and cannot effectuate long-term.
- 0:55Real change in human nature in many instances.
- 0:59This leads either to depression or turns the individual into a
- 1:04cold bitter from Strated personality who takes out his
- 1:08own failings on others as he cannot deal with them as he
- 1:12wishes within himself. There seems to be no way out.
- 1:17And thus, eventually people believe, human nature cannot
- 1:22change. SRI aurobindo takes a different
- 1:26approach. He first observes the field
- 1:28closely and determined in what part of the being and under what
- 1:33force of impulsion? The Movement as a risen.
- 1:38Then it is a matter of applying skillful means to systematically
- 1:42tackle. The issue and make it ever less
- 1:45relevant to the being through a change of focus toward the
- 1:49higher realizations. One is seeking the power of any
- 1:53habitual movement can be reduced in both its level of occurrence
- 1:58and its intensity of occurrence. The mind, the mental will can be
- 2:04harnessed To deny the movement full expression.
- 2:08This may not succeed all at once, but over time with patient
- 2:13and persistent will it eventually can and does succeed.
- 2:19The movement May remain embedded in the vital being or even in
- 2:23the physical being with a somewhat automatic response to a
- 2:27stimuli and thus May recur at some time when least expected,
- 2:33simply because the guard has been reduced with the apparent
- 2:36success. Continued effort then drives
- 2:42these impulses into the subcontinent layers and from
- 2:46there, they can erupt from time to time or at the very least,
- 2:50make themselves known in the dream state.
- 2:54The practice of psychotherapy attempts to open up, what is
- 2:57hidden in the subcontinent. But for the most part is simply
- 3:02empowers these impulses and thus may be highly counterproductive.
- 3:10People believe that if they gain control over the impulses within
- 3:13their own individual being that they have solved the issue.
- 3:18But in fact, the Oneness of the energetic forces of the
- 3:21universal creation implies that until the movement is eliminated
- 3:27throughout all of nature, it still has its existence and can
- 3:32attempt to infect the individual from there on any suitable
- 3:37occasion. SRI aurobindo observes, quote,
- 3:42when a habitual movement long embedded in the nature is cast
- 3:46out, it takes refuge in some less, enlightened part of the
- 3:49nature. And when cast out of the rest of
- 3:52the nature, it takes refuge in the subcontinent and from their
- 3:56searches up when you least expect it or comes up in dreams
- 4:00or sudden incontinent movements, word goes out and remains in
- 4:04wait in the environmental being through which the Russell nature
- 4:09works and attack from there, as a force from outside.
- 4:13Trying to recover, its Kingdom by a suggestion or repetition of
- 4:17old movements. One has to Stand Fast, ^, return
- 4:22Fades away, these returns are attacks, must be regarded, not
- 4:27as parts of oneself but as invasions and rejected without
- 4:32allowing any depression or discouragement, If the mind is
- 4:38not sanctioned them, if the vital refuses to welcome them,
- 4:43if the physical remains steady and refuses to obey the physical
- 4:47urge, and the recurrence of the thought, the vital impulse.
- 4:52The physical feeling will begin to lose its last holds.
- 4:56And finally, they will be too feeble to cause any trouble and
