- 1:49Speaker 2: He joins us on the Farm Bureau Insurance guest Line
- 1:53Speaker 2: one oh five nine of the Zone ESPN.
- 1:55Speaker 3: Steve P.
- 1:56Speaker 2: I know we talked Miles Garrett and all that kind
- 1:59Speaker 2: of stuff, and we talked QBS last week Garrett moving
- 2:04Speaker 2: from the Browns to the Rams, and the Rams were
- 2:08Speaker 2: already good and now they add a less need and
- 2:13Speaker 2: as you know McVeigh, I mean, they go it's funny,
- 2:16Speaker 2: they go all in and then people say they're not
- 2:18Speaker 2: going to be good forever, and then they reboot and
- 2:20Speaker 2: do it again and just in no time.
- 2:24Speaker 3: But would you have done that? Like, what did you
- 2:27Speaker 3: think about the trade on both sides? Sometimes both both
- 2:31Speaker 3: teams can win, but what did you think about it?
- 2:34Speaker 2: As far as the Rams who were in the NFC
- 2:37Speaker 2: and then the Browns who have been in no man's
- 2:39Speaker 2: land for a while.
- 2:40Speaker 3: But Garrett's a great player.
- 2:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 4: I know, we live in a hot take shouty show world,
- 2:44Speaker 4: but we can have win win trades. I thought it
- 2:47Speaker 4: was absolute a win win, yeah, you know, for both teams,
- 2:50Speaker 4: because I think what happens is, you know, teams are
- 2:52Speaker 4: in different points in their life cycle, and so the
- 2:55Speaker 4: Browns Miles Garrett's great, He's still in his prime. There's
- 2:59Speaker 4: definitely some date out there that would suggest, hell, there'll
- 3:01Speaker 4: be a slight decline over the next three to four years,
- 3:03Speaker 4: but slight decline from the mountaintop is still elite, you know, right,
- 3:09Speaker 4: I mean, he'll still be great. And the Browns are still,
- 3:12Speaker 4: you know, wondering about their quarterback, and their whole roster
- 3:15Speaker 4: was decimated because of Deshaun Watson. That one deal cost
- 3:20Speaker 4: them multiple first round picks and a whole lot of
- 3:22Speaker 4: money that they could not spend elsewhere, So their roster's
- 3:25Speaker 4: been depleted. They've actually done a really nice job now
- 3:28Speaker 4: over the last two drafts adding a lot of good
- 3:30Speaker 4: young talents, and they add another good young talent and
- 3:32Speaker 4: Jared Verse, And it really was an unprecedented trade for
- 3:36Speaker 4: two reasons. Miles Garrett type players don't get traded often.
- 3:40Speaker 4: I know Micah Parsons did last year, but it's not
- 3:42Speaker 4: often that you see, you know, elite players, but certainly
- 3:46Speaker 4: not the best defensive player traded. And then you have
- 3:50Speaker 4: you don't have third year players who are stars. And
- 3:53Speaker 4: Jared Versus is a star player in the league. I
- 3:56Speaker 4: would say Miles Garrett's a superstar, but Jared Versus still
- 3:59Speaker 4: a star. You don't You don't see players in the
- 4:01Speaker 4: third year of their cost controlled rookie contract generally traded.
- 4:06Speaker 4: So I think the Browns did a good job to
- 4:08Speaker 4: get younger, get next year's first round pick and a
- 4:11Speaker 4: two and a three in the future, get younger while
- 4:13Speaker 4: still having a high end player like Jared Verse. And
- 4:17Speaker 4: then the Rams, who were the Super Bowl favorites already
- 4:19Speaker 4: this year, become the favorites even more because they had
- 4:22Speaker 4: the defensive player of the year and the guy that
- 4:26Speaker 4: is an upgrade over Jared Verse and all of a
- 4:28Speaker 4: sudden gives them a little bit more defensive flexibility because
- 4:30Speaker 4: of his pass rush ability. So I think it was
- 4:33Speaker 4: a win and win. I think both teams come out
- 4:35Speaker 4: on top, and as the Browns were workshopping trade opportunities.
- 4:40Speaker 4: It probably had to be more than the Micah Parsons
- 4:43Speaker 4: two first round deal because when Garrett gets traded, the
- 4:47Speaker 4: team that trades for him, you know, the trading team
- 4:49Speaker 4: the Browns, still have to eat most of his signing bonus.
- 4:52Speaker 4: And so the Rams essentially get like a three year,
- 4:56Speaker 4: thirty three million dollars a year type of contract, which
- 4:59Speaker 4: is a highest for edge rushers. For Garrett, that's what
- 5:02Speaker 4: the Rams are going to be on the hook for.
- 5:04Speaker 4: So it's actually really cheap. And so Garrett's value was
- 5:08Speaker 4: even higher than say Michael Parsons, who needed a new
- 5:10Speaker 4: deal at forty plus million dollars. That's the other hidden
- 5:14Speaker 4: advantage here for for the Rams is Garrett is relatively cheap.
- 5:18Speaker 4: Now you have to give up a one and you know,
- 5:20Speaker 4: other picks and verse, but he's cheap financially, you know,
- 5:23Speaker 4: compared to trading for say a Micah Parsons and then
- 5:25Speaker 4: saying all right, now we got to give him forty
- 5:27Speaker 4: to forty five million dollars a year.
- 5:29Speaker 3: Wow, all right, I got to give you credit.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Man, you did a damn good job on that, So
- 5:35Speaker 2: thank you. See, and I like that, you know, we
- 5:41Speaker 2: always think there's got to be a loser in the deal.
- 5:44Speaker 2: And in business, every day you're hoping to do deals
- 5:46Speaker 2: that's a win win for and so this is we
- 5:50Speaker 2: but we look at this like it's entertainment not business.
- 5:53Speaker 2: I like the way you laid out, Hey, the Browns
- 5:55Speaker 2: one or could be a good, really nice level winner
- 5:58Speaker 2: and the Rams and it can work out for both
- 6:01Speaker 2: for both parties.
- 6:02Speaker 3: How much juice do you think?
- 6:05Speaker 2: Uh, I'm a I'm a big Matthew Stafford fan, but
- 6:09Speaker 2: how much Jews do you still think?
- 6:11Speaker 3: He has left? Two years?
- 6:15Speaker 4: Yeah, I would say I'd say one to two years
- 6:17Speaker 4: for him. I mean, I don't want to write him up.
- 6:19Speaker 4: Last year. I remember the hyperbaric chamber stuff, and you know,
- 6:23Speaker 4: they had his own bus for recovery, and I'm like, man,
- 6:25Speaker 4: he's he's falling apart. And remember I mean in training
- 6:28Speaker 4: camp last year he wasn't practicing. Sean mcvay's like, I
- 6:31Speaker 4: don't know, I don't know what he's going to practice.
- 6:33Speaker 4: We get a bus here and he's in the bus
- 6:34Speaker 4: and he's getting you know, he's getting treatment, and all
- 6:37Speaker 4: of a sudden, he has an MVP caliber season. So
- 6:39Speaker 4: he's he's been He's been banged up with various injuries
- 6:44Speaker 4: through the years, thumb, back, the back especially, But right
- 6:49Speaker 4: when you think, well, this has to be it, you know,
- 6:51Speaker 4: thirty seven, thirty eight years old, that's when old, you know,
- 6:53Speaker 4: that's when quarterbacks he used to drop off, the recovery
- 6:56Speaker 4: times and everything. I mean that just the technology is
- 6:59Speaker 4: so much better right now, and so maybe he does
- 7:02Speaker 4: have two more years and he's going to go all
- 7:05Speaker 4: in for that. Now. He's had some ups and downs
- 7:06Speaker 4: the last couple of years. He was down in a
- 7:08Speaker 4: little bit in twenty four. He wins MVP last year
- 7:11Speaker 4: in twenty five, so there's been some consistency issues with him,
- 7:14Speaker 4: but overall he's been very good during his Rams tenure,
- 7:17Speaker 4: better than he was during the Lions tenure. Him and
- 7:19Speaker 4: McVeigh have a great rapport. They've developed this offense and
- 7:24Speaker 4: you know, taken the next step with how they're using
- 7:26Speaker 4: tight ends and attacking defenses. So yeah, I think he's
- 7:28Speaker 4: got a couple of years and Garrett's three years. I
- 7:32Speaker 4: think you know of elite play at least still in him.
- 7:35Speaker 4: So I think, yeah, the Rams are well set up.
- 7:37Speaker 4: I'll tell you what's if you care about long term
- 7:40Speaker 4: for the Rams, and you're right, like it felt like
- 7:43Speaker 4: they were going all in a couple times this decade,
- 7:45Speaker 4: and they never really got bad other than the twenty
- 7:48Speaker 4: twenty two season they dropped off a little bit, had
- 7:50Speaker 4: a lot of injuries. But they used to give up
- 7:54Speaker 4: those first round picks, but then they would still draft
- 7:56Speaker 4: ten to twelve times. It's the one thing to keep
- 7:59Speaker 4: an eye on. They haven't done not the last two years.
- 8:00Speaker 4: They've only drafted eleven times in two over the last
- 8:03Speaker 4: two years total, and so they used to do that
- 8:06Speaker 4: in a draft, and that's why they hit on kyn
- 8:09Speaker 4: Williams and Kouka Nakua and Kobe Turner and all these
- 8:12Speaker 4: Day three picks. So that's the thing to keep an
- 8:16Speaker 4: eye on. The Rams have not replenished the youth on
- 8:19Speaker 4: the roster the last two years at key positions, and
- 8:23Speaker 4: if there's going to be a drop off, it could
- 8:24Speaker 4: happen three years from now. It's just something to keep
- 8:27Speaker 4: an eye on for the Rams because they haven't maybe
- 8:29Speaker 4: future proof the roster as much as they as they did,
- 8:32Speaker 4: you know earlier this decade when they were still giving
- 8:34Speaker 4: up all those first round picks for veteran players.
- 8:37Speaker 3: NFL Podcasts of the Year.
- 8:38Speaker 2: Steve Palozolo on the Out of Bounds Show, brought to
- 8:41Speaker 2: you by Mudbugs. They're open all weekend, Amazing Crawfish, crab Legs, Shrimp, Ice, Cold, MCLO, Vultron,
- 8:49Speaker 2: bud Light, all at Mudbugs at the Reservoir and Mudbugs downtown.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I know I ask you this several times a year,
- 8:56Speaker 2: but it's fun and I always like to see which
- 8:58Speaker 2: you know, where you are and what direct you're gonna go.
- 9:02Speaker 2: If you owned an NFL franchise and you could hire
- 9:07Speaker 2: any GM you wanted, would it be Less Sneed, Snyder, Beach, Roseman,
- 9:13Speaker 2: someone else?
- 9:16Speaker 4: Oh Man? I feel like how we always becomes the
- 9:19Speaker 4: answer here Roseman, Less needs up there though, And I
- 9:26Speaker 4: actually I did text him the other day. I thanked
- 9:29Speaker 4: him for the NFL News in June, which was nice.
- 9:33Speaker 4: I think less needs always, let's say less need for now,
- 9:37Speaker 4: because for a decade now, that's been the best drafting
- 9:41Speaker 4: team in the NFL by my numbers, and that includes
- 9:45Speaker 4: not even adjusting for the fact that they haven't had
- 9:47Speaker 4: a first round pick. So every time they traded a
- 9:49Speaker 4: first round pick or multiple and they got Jalen Ramsey
- 9:51Speaker 4: and Matthew Stafford and now Miles Garrett. Every time they've
- 9:54Speaker 4: done that, it's essentially worked, and they've still been the
- 9:57Speaker 4: best drafting team for the last decade. And I think
- 10:00Speaker 4: less Need has always been an innovator. McVeigh gets gets
- 10:04Speaker 4: this credit for being an innovator. I think that hasn't
- 10:07Speaker 4: happened until the last couple of years. I think maybe
- 10:09Speaker 4: since they got Stafford. I think McVeigh was stale for
- 10:12Speaker 4: a minute and the league caught up to his offense,
- 10:15Speaker 4: and then he adjusted. Less Need has always been ahead
- 10:17Speaker 4: of the curve, right. Everybody's always like, what are the
- 10:19Speaker 4: Rams doing? Right? They're really aggressive, they're really finding a
- 10:23Speaker 4: way to go veteran heavy. When everyone says you got
- 10:26Speaker 4: to build through the draft and this whole like FM
- 10:28Speaker 4: picks mantra this joke, but that was never really the strategy.
- 10:32Speaker 4: It was we'll give up ones and like I said earlier,
- 10:35Speaker 4: we'll draft ten to twelve times rounds two through seven
- 10:38Speaker 4: and get a lot of Day three picks. But they've
- 10:40Speaker 4: started to hit. They've hit on those picks and they've
- 10:42Speaker 4: developed those players. And I think I think Sneed gets
- 10:46Speaker 4: he deserves a lot of credit for keeping them really
- 10:49Speaker 4: competitive during that time, but just being bold, like a
- 10:52Speaker 4: lot of his bold moves have worked, including the Stafford
- 10:55Speaker 4: move when they already had a quarterback, they had Jared Goff,
- 10:57Speaker 4: and they said we need better. Oh, we need to
- 11:01Speaker 4: take this next step, and I'll add this to it.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I think that trade triggered a lot. That trade and
- 11:08Speaker 4: then the Mahomes Josh Allen game from twenty twenty one.
- 11:12Speaker 4: Remember the playoff game forty two to thirty six, a
- 11:15Speaker 4: thirteen second game, the shootout that season triggered a lot
- 11:20Speaker 4: of teams saying, we need to have this high end
- 11:22Speaker 4: quarterback or we can't compete. Look what the Rams did
- 11:24Speaker 4: with Stafford. They went from golf to Stafford and won
- 11:27Speaker 4: a Super Bowl. So this was a trend that Less
- 11:31Speaker 4: helped set. And then you had Mahomes and Allen going,
- 11:34Speaker 4: you know, blow for blow in the playoffs and the
- 11:36Speaker 4: offenses are incredible. And after that, remember the Broncos traded
- 11:40Speaker 4: for Russell Wilson, the Browns traded for Deshaun Watson, the
- 11:44Speaker 4: Jets traded for Aaron Rodgers. The Broncos were looking at
- 11:47Speaker 4: Aaron Rodgers and everybody felt like they had to go
- 11:49Speaker 4: get a top eight quarterback. And what's funny is the
- 11:51Speaker 4: Rams executed that well and won the Super Bowl with Stafford.
- 11:55Speaker 4: All the teams that traded for a quarterback, they actually
- 11:58Speaker 4: set up the teams that traded the quarterback. So the
- 12:02Speaker 4: Seahawks trade of Russell Wilson, so the Broncos set them
- 12:05Speaker 4: up for their Super Bowl a couple of years later
- 12:07Speaker 4: because they loaded up on draft picks and Deshaun Watson
- 12:11Speaker 4: deal set the Texans up to be this top eight
- 12:14Speaker 4: team in the league over the last couple of years.
- 12:15Speaker 4: That's what set them up to get Will Anderson and CJ. Stroud.
- 12:18Speaker 4: So just an interesting time in the league. And less
- 12:21Speaker 4: Need was one of the trend setters that made that
- 12:24Speaker 4: happen by being aggressive and going to get Matthew Stafford
- 12:27Speaker 4: and winning a Super Bowl with him.
- 12:29Speaker 3: Wow, wow, less Sneed history, Lessons?
- 12:33Speaker 4: How's that yet?
- 12:34Speaker 2: Well? I love time it, you know, back and where
- 12:36Speaker 2: we are today and what worked and less Need is
- 12:39Speaker 2: the geral manager for the Rams, Howie Roseman, general manager
- 12:43Speaker 2: for the Eagles. Beach is at Kansas City, Snyder at
- 12:46Speaker 2: the Seattle Seahawks.
- 12:48Speaker 4: The other thing that the other thing that less Need
- 12:50Speaker 4: and the Rams have not done right. They don't go
- 12:53Speaker 4: to the I don't get to see them in person
- 12:56Speaker 4: when I traveled because they don't travel. They don't go
- 12:58Speaker 4: to the scouting combine, they don't go to the Sea Bowl.
- 13:00Speaker 4: They have a different way of getting the interviews and
- 13:04Speaker 4: character information on the players, and they don't want to
- 13:06Speaker 4: tip their hands by doing those those pre dropped thirty visits.
- 13:11Speaker 4: So everything they've done has been a little bit different. Yeah,
- 13:15Speaker 4: it's it's been. It's been different. It's been I think calculated.
- 13:19Speaker 4: I'm not saying everything that they do works, but they've
- 13:22Speaker 4: been trendsetters in a lot of different areas and overall
- 13:25Speaker 4: it has worked. And I think you have to respect
- 13:27Speaker 4: that when someone is always like on an island and
- 13:30Speaker 4: how they go about their business and they but they
- 13:33Speaker 4: still are able to execute it and win at a
- 13:34Speaker 4: high level.
- 13:35Speaker 2: Okay, Steve Palazzolo, NFL Podcast of the Year on the
- 13:39Speaker 2: Out of Bounds Show driven by your Next GMC Sierra
- 13:43Speaker 2: Truck at Balor.
- 13:44Speaker 3: GMC Pearl Brandon, I did not know this. We got it.
- 13:47Speaker 3: We got to go over this again.
- 13:49Speaker 2: So less need in his front office Scouting department group,
- 13:54Speaker 2: who have done an amazing job. You just walked us
- 13:56Speaker 2: through so many of the things that they have done.
- 13:59Speaker 2: And as you and I Tall talk about, it's extremely
- 14:01Speaker 2: difficult to evaluate land all the different things.
- 14:05Speaker 3: They don't go to the combine or the Senior Bowl.
- 14:07Speaker 4: Step, that's right. So what most teams do Senior Bowl
- 14:13Speaker 4: they will send in the rams sense, like a couple
- 14:15Speaker 4: of scouts, okay, but with like very specific so it's
- 14:18Speaker 4: not but a lot of times the Senior Ball. So
- 14:22Speaker 4: I'll be down there, I'll be on the sideline and
- 14:24Speaker 4: I'm just standing there next to every you know, I'd
- 14:26Speaker 4: say two thirds of the NFL gms are sitting there,
- 14:29Speaker 4: either on the sideline or in the press box somewhere.
- 14:32Speaker 4: General managers, assistant general managers, scouting directors, they're all there
- 14:37Speaker 4: and they want to get this in person look at
- 14:39Speaker 4: the Senior Bowl. And then in the evening or in
- 14:41Speaker 4: the morning, depends on the timing, they'll do interviews with players. Right,
- 14:45Speaker 4: So that's where they get fifteen minutes with the players.
- 14:47Speaker 4: You get to understand the kid and get information about
- 14:50Speaker 4: the player, and then they and then the combine is similar.
- 14:53Speaker 4: The combine used to just be for medicals, but now
- 14:56Speaker 4: you've obviously the workouts and it's become this big events.
- 14:59Speaker 4: But the thing there for the teams is the interviews.
- 15:02Speaker 4: So they get to just cycle through ten to fifteen
- 15:04Speaker 4: minute interviews with the kids, with the players, over and
- 15:07Speaker 4: over and over again. And then after that you get
- 15:10Speaker 4: to have them you know, on your at your facility
- 15:14Speaker 4: if you want and everything. The RAMS don't do any
- 15:17Speaker 4: of that. They don't send their executives to the Senior
- 15:19Speaker 4: Bowl or any of the bowls. They don't send their
- 15:22Speaker 4: executives to the Combine. They don't do the interview process there.
- 15:27Speaker 4: So they try to accumulate that interview information I think
- 15:30Speaker 4: on campus in the fall with their scouts. They just
- 15:33Speaker 4: accumulate it more incognito.
- 15:36Speaker 2: So they go to Michigan and Georgia, Y and Texas
- 15:41Speaker 2: during September, October, and November as these guys are working
- 15:44Speaker 2: through their junior and or senior season.
- 15:47Speaker 4: Steve correct, Yeah, so they'll be there, you know, maybe
- 15:50Speaker 4: in October for like a Michigan USC game or whatever
- 15:52Speaker 4: it is, or during practice you know, you know, training
- 15:56Speaker 4: camp in August or whatever it may be. And I
- 15:59Speaker 4: think it was even reported that less Need and Sean
- 16:02Speaker 4: McVay secretly met with Ty Simpson. So again, they I
- 16:07Speaker 4: don't know exactly what they're trying to do from an
- 16:09Speaker 4: advantage standpoint, if it's literally just to make sure that
- 16:11Speaker 4: nobody knows who they're interested in, or if it's just
- 16:14Speaker 4: that that's how they feel like they'd rather accumulate information
- 16:19Speaker 4: because those those pre canned interviews at the Combine, the
- 16:24Speaker 4: kids are so prepared for that stuff. Yea, because that's
- 16:26Speaker 4: what the agents are doing, right. The agents are preparing
- 16:28Speaker 4: them not just for the combine workouts and you're training
- 16:32Speaker 4: for the forty and you're training for the agility drills
- 16:34Speaker 4: and everything, but you're training for the interviews. And you
- 16:37Speaker 4: go through all these mock interviews and they end up
- 16:38Speaker 4: giving stock answers and they start to just sound generic,
- 16:43Speaker 4: and I think the rams are trying to cut to like, Okay,
- 16:45Speaker 4: who's you know, everybody's trying to figure out who's the kid?
- 16:48Speaker 4: Can I trust them? What's his personality? Like? So they
- 16:51Speaker 4: do they just go about it a different way.
- 16:54Speaker 2: Wow, Okay, I mean we've known Sneed is really good
- 16:58Speaker 2: for a decade plus, but damn, I think he's a
- 17:01Speaker 2: troy Alum, which is right down the road from US.
- 17:05Speaker 2: Steve Pozolo NFL Podcast of the Year on the out
- 17:09Speaker 2: of Bound Show driven by your next GMC Sierra Truck
- 17:12Speaker 2: at balor GMC, did you know were you tipped off
- 17:16Speaker 2: at all that the Rams were going to go get
- 17:20Speaker 2: TOAs Simpson from Alabama as a first round pick, knowing
- 17:24Speaker 2: that Stafford still has we believe at least two more
- 17:28Speaker 2: years Steve had.
- 17:30Speaker 4: I had no idea, I'm other than there was some
- 17:32Speaker 4: Rams fans who I think heard some rumblings and we're
- 17:34Speaker 4: talking about it a couple of days before the draft.
- 17:37Speaker 4: I'll just say this, like when I used to do
- 17:38Speaker 4: mock drafts a lot back when that Big Ben was
- 17:43Speaker 4: still playing, and yeah, say Philip Rivers, I used to
- 17:46Speaker 4: think about, if you're the Steelers, why wouldn't you evaluate
- 17:48Speaker 4: every single quarterback class and if you find the right guy,
- 17:51Speaker 4: take him in the first round. And I would do
- 17:52Speaker 4: that sometimes in my mox, and I think, you know,
- 17:55Speaker 4: Steelers fans hated it. I mean, this is what I
- 17:57Speaker 4: would ask, like, if you're a Steelers fan, do you
- 17:59Speaker 4: wish that if the right guy fell in twenty eighteen
- 18:03Speaker 4: Lamar Jackson in twenty eighteen, even though you had Big
- 18:07Speaker 4: Ben for maybe another year or two. You just you
- 18:10Speaker 4: just took a quarterback for the future a year earlier
- 18:12Speaker 4: instead of a year late. Because since that time Big
- 18:14Speaker 4: Ben retires and it's like, all right, now we've got
- 18:16Speaker 4: to go we got to bring in Mitch Trubisky, we
- 18:19Speaker 4: have to draft Kenny Pickett, we have to go go
- 18:21Speaker 4: get Aaron Rodgers. And you're still you still don't know
- 18:24Speaker 4: who your quarterback of the future is in Pittsburgh. And
- 18:27Speaker 4: so that's what the Rams are doing, right They're just
- 18:30Speaker 4: trying to get ahead of it. Whether you like Ty
- 18:31Speaker 4: Simpson or not, They're trying to get ahead of it
- 18:33Speaker 4: instead of sitting here and scrambling. Oh Stafford retired. I'll
- 18:36Speaker 4: hope the quarterback class is good this year because the
- 18:38Speaker 4: two times the Steelers in particular needed to draft a
- 18:41Speaker 4: quarterback in the first round were the two years that
- 18:44Speaker 4: there was only one or two first rounders Kenny Pickett
- 18:46Speaker 4: in twenty twenty two and then last year when it
- 18:48Speaker 4: was cam Ward and Jackson Dart. And so what the
- 18:53Speaker 4: Rams are trying to do get ahead of it from
- 18:55Speaker 4: a QB perspective.
- 18:56Speaker 3: Wow, and Green Bay has done that. In Kansas City
- 19:00Speaker 3: has done that.
- 19:02Speaker 4: The Jordan Love one was really interesting because they the
- 19:05Speaker 4: Packers lost in the NFC Championship the year that they
- 19:08Speaker 4: drafted him, and they could have drafted say T Higgins
- 19:11Speaker 4: and because he was the next receiver off the board
- 19:13Speaker 4: and the Packers needed receiver, so you could have had T.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Higgins and Davante Adams. And so it's like a fair
- 19:19Speaker 4: question for Packers fans. Would you rather have had T
- 19:21Speaker 4: Higgins and maybe gotten to the NFC Championship or maybe
- 19:25Speaker 4: gotten to the Super Bowl in twenty twenty? Would that
- 19:27Speaker 4: one player put you over the top? And then in
- 19:29Speaker 4: twenty one Rogers wins the MVP again, they lose in
- 19:32Speaker 4: the divisional round. Would you rather have had T Higgins
- 19:34Speaker 4: for two years with Aaron Rodgers three years or had
- 19:39Speaker 4: that smooth transition to Jordan Love after the food I
- 19:41Speaker 4: think it's a fair question, but you know that's a tough.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Like as a Packers fan, I'm thinking I'd rather have T.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Higgins and make a run over a two year deal.
- 19:54Speaker 2: But I also get where you're going is if you're
- 19:57Speaker 2: in no man's land like the Steelers and the and
- 20:00Speaker 2: some other teams with QBS, then you could muck it
- 20:03Speaker 2: up for five years to decade, which which direction would
- 20:07Speaker 2: you go?
- 20:08Speaker 3: Steve p I.
- 20:10Speaker 4: Think you know, it's easy in hindsight now to say, well,
- 20:13Speaker 4: I knew, now that we know that Jordan Love became
- 20:15Speaker 4: what he did, that I go the Jordan Love route,
- 20:18Speaker 4: because okay, now you stayed competitive, right, you stayed competitive
- 20:21Speaker 4: for another decade, probably with Jordan Love. No matter what
- 20:23Speaker 4: you think about Jordan Love. But at the time, I
- 20:26Speaker 4: didn't love Jordan Love as a prospect. I didn't know
- 20:29Speaker 4: he'd developed. I knew that the Packers needed a receiver.
- 20:32Speaker 4: I probably at the time would it said, man, Higgins
- 20:34Speaker 4: looks pretty good there. I think they really did want
- 20:36Speaker 4: Brandon Ayuk there. He went a little bit earlier. But
- 20:39Speaker 4: or T Higgins added to that Packers team that already
- 20:43Speaker 4: had Devonte Adams and Rogers playing at an MVP level.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I think they have shot at a super Bowl. So
- 20:47Speaker 4: it's a tough trade off. But knowing what I know now,
- 20:50Speaker 4: easy to say I think Jordan Love is the better
- 20:53Speaker 4: play long term.
- 20:54Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, no, long term for sure. And that's interesting
- 20:59Speaker 2: because the Ram the Rams did both. They went and
- 21:04Speaker 2: grabbed what they believe is their keeping the future, but
- 21:07Speaker 2: they also just landed the best or top five defensive player.
- 21:13Speaker 3: In the league in Miles Garrett.
- 21:15Speaker 4: I mean, damn, I'll give you I know we're up
- 21:18Speaker 4: against it, but I'll give you one more what if
- 21:19Speaker 4: scenario for the Rams less need in. The Rams have
- 21:22Speaker 4: been trying to trade up in multiple drafts over the
- 21:24Speaker 4: last couple of years. This was the domino effect. They
- 21:27Speaker 4: tried to trade up for Brock Bauers a couple of
- 21:29Speaker 4: years ago, couldn't do it. They tried to trade up
- 21:31Speaker 4: for Tedoha McMillan at eight with the Panthers a couple
- 21:34Speaker 4: of years ago, they got denied. Instead, they traded out
- 21:37Speaker 4: of the first round. So instead of trading up, they
- 21:39Speaker 4: traded out got this year's first rounder. That turned into
- 21:43Speaker 4: Ty Simpson and Jordan Rodrigue from the Athletics. She's plugged
- 21:47Speaker 4: in with the Rams. She said, look, because they got
- 21:50Speaker 4: the quarterback, they were more willing to give up the
- 21:52Speaker 4: first rounder for next year, and that led to them
- 21:55Speaker 4: getting Miles Garrett. So this big domino effect. If they
- 21:57Speaker 4: were trying to go get these star players failed, they
- 22:01Speaker 4: get their quarterback this year and that freed them up
- 22:03Speaker 4: in their mind to go make this aggressive move for
- 22:06Speaker 4: Miles Garrett. Because they didn't need to worry about the
- 22:08Speaker 4: quarterback class for next year. So fascinating a couple of
- 22:11Speaker 4: years here for the Rams.
- 22:12Speaker 2: Wow less sneed. General manager for the La Rams. One
- 22:17Speaker 2: of the best executives in all of pro sports.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Unbelievable.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Steve Palzolo on the Out of Bounds Show, NFL podcast
- 22:26Speaker 2: of the Year. Thanks dude, have a great weekend, my man.

- 22:47Speaker 2: great game day food is crawfish is the shrimp that
- 22:50Speaker 2: they do, I think is some of the best shrimp
- 22:52Speaker 2: in the SEC and crab legs.
- 22:54Speaker 3: They have wings too. Mudbugs, mud Bugs.
