- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome in to Duval Daily, presented by gynjag.com.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: I'm Jordan Nulu.
- 0:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think so much for being here Tuesday, August, fifth.
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jaguar's training camp practice number ten in the books.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_00]: Jags are now getting ready for Pittsburgh preseason week one in Jacksonville, Saturday night, seven p.m.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_00]: These next two days coming up Wednesday and Thursday.
- 0:27[SPEAKER_00]: I think they're going to be really trying to get ready for that football game.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: today final practice of training camp that is open to the fans.
- 0:38[SPEAKER_00]: So fans were out there.
- 0:40[SPEAKER_00]: It was warm.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_00]: It was hot.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_00]: It was good practice overall.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: Pads were back on.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think that
- 0:47[SPEAKER_00]: There's a lot to get into with what happened on the field during this practice.
- 0:51[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to do that.
- 0:52[SPEAKER_00]: So really appreciate y'all be in here.
- 0:54[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: And also check out jingjag.com slash shop pick up some new Duval gear.
- 0:59[SPEAKER_00]: It is the final day to pre-order our Duval football shirt.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_00]: Again, check that out jingjag.com slash shop.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_00]: So
- 1:07[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter started the day until he played on defense as well, and the team periods of practice.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_00]: This was the first normal practice where he did that.
- 1:17[SPEAKER_00]: He did that in the stadium screen, which is the mock game on Friday night, but this was the first regular training camp practice where Hunter played both sides, and Liam Cohen talked after practice and said,
- 1:31[SPEAKER_00]: He's not necessarily going to play both sides every single day, but he will play both sides frequently moving forward.
- 1:36[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where we're at with Travis Hunter and his kind of practice schedule moving along here into the preseason.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: Mason Smith was still off to the side, still working from, you know, getting back from the active slash PUP list onto the practice field.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: So he's moving well.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: Hopefully he can get back soon.
- 1:57[SPEAKER_00]: No real word on what's up with Eric Armstead, you know, that they mentioned the back and he's working through at Liam Cohen was asked about it, said they signed Austin Johnson, Austin Johnson made a play in the run game today.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen commented on that.
- 2:11[SPEAKER_00]: was happy to see Austin Johnson who is wearing number sixty nine nice uh be able to get out there and make a play against the run and look based on what I saw on tape that's what I expected Austin Johnson to be a very good run defender um who can help the defense execute help the defense be functional
- 2:30[SPEAKER_00]: help the defense be assignment sound and free up some other guys as well.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_00]: So I think you saw that some of that from him today, which was good, but Eric Armstead, Liam Cohen wouldn't commit to Eric Armstead being ready for the regular season.
- 2:41[SPEAKER_00]: He feels like he thinks he probably should be ready for the regular season.
- 2:45[SPEAKER_00]: And he said he would hope that Armstead would know how to get himself ready.
- 2:49[SPEAKER_00]: But it seems just kind of very vague as to what's going on there.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: Not a great situation in my opinion.
- 2:58[SPEAKER_00]: You're hopeful that on the positive side, it's just a veteran, you know, not wanting to do a whole lot of training camp and get, you know, help you ready for the regular season.
- 3:10[SPEAKER_00]: On the negative side, it's like your Miss and Eric Armstead, your Miss and Mason Smith, those two guys were supposed to be your two best interior past pressures.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_00]: What happens if neither of them are ready early on?
- 3:22[SPEAKER_00]: Because Liam Cohen commented on it.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: They want him, Eric Armstrong, to be ready for the full season.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_00]: But he also said, it's not like the end of the season is more important necessarily than the beginning of the season in terms of winning games week to week.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_00]: You need to win games early on.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: So it's a fine balance they're trying to kind of advance their trying to play with making sure guys stay healthy.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: And that also goes into the decision about the preseason week one, or the starter is going to play.
- 3:56[SPEAKER_00]: Cohen said in LA, starters and second stringers didn't really play in the preseason.
- 4:02[SPEAKER_00]: But last year in Tampa, he said some of those guys did get out there and played during the preseason.
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: So he has an important decision to make regarding how that's going to go.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_00]: This preseason week one and he has not decided yet.
- 4:14[SPEAKER_00]: But again, it's that balance.
- 4:16[SPEAKER_00]: It's finding that that
- 4:18[SPEAKER_00]: ability to get guys reps while also, you know, minimizing the risk of injury and hopefully avoiding injury.
- 4:26[SPEAKER_00]: So he and Mike Tomlin are going to talk today at some point about what their plans are and try to get ready and figure it out.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_00]: I don't know that we will know tomorrow.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe Thursday, maybe Friday as to when we'll know about starters playing, et cetera.
- 4:49[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen did talk about Travis Hunter's alignment on offense.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: He said basically right now, Travis Hunter is an eleven person out player and they're working to expand that.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_00]: But right now, that's what they've been focusing on and then they're going to expand into getting it ready to learn more.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: Twelve personnel.
- 5:09[SPEAKER_00]: So eleven personnel is three wide receivers, one running back, one tight end.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_00]: Right now, he is the F receiver in those alignments.
- 5:17[SPEAKER_00]: The F receiver is basically the slot.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_00]: You've got the X, around how much junior, the Z, the Army Brown, and there will be movement.
- 5:26[SPEAKER_00]: It's not going to be static, right?
- 5:27[SPEAKER_00]: But that's the basic alignment that Travis Hunter has been in and that he's basically getting comfortable with and they're going to work to continue to expand that.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_00]: But I would say as of right now, again, can change quickly, but as of right now,
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter is not going to be on the field on offense in twelve personnel.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_00]: That would be Brian Thomas Jr.
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: and Dami Brown.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_00]: Twelve personnel is one running back two tight ends to receivers.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_00]: So that's something that Liam Cohen divulged that, you know, I was appreciative of him doing that, but definitely wasn't one hundred percent necessary to go to that level of detail, but yeah, Travis Hunter is basically right now the slot receiver in eleven personnel.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: Jail McCloud, who we haven't seen in the last couple days, rookie draft pick out of Auburn, who's an edge slash linebacker Sam.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: He's weak to weak, unfortunately, and Liam Cohen was pleased without he was progressing before that hiccup injury wise.
- 6:32[SPEAKER_00]: Now, getting into the team portion of practice, the defense one today by a wide margin, I thought it started up front.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: The devins of Lyon did a really good job.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: There was also just like too many offensive penalties, false starts, holding, missed alignment, pre-snap.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_00]: You also saw the special teams put team, get the punt return team, put block team to jump.
- 6:59[SPEAKER_00]: And so that would have picked up
- 7:02[SPEAKER_00]: Logan Cook and you know, all those guys first down for the Jaguars offense, but on the reverse side of that, it would have given your opponents a first down if you're talking about the Jaguars punt block slash returning to me out on the field.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_00]: So good for Logan Cook and them bad for the
- 7:21[SPEAKER_00]: fun block team.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_00]: Trayvon Walker, multiple run stuff, multiple pressure is probably what I had a sack or two today.
- 7:29[SPEAKER_00]: Great, great day for him.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: Very good day for Josh Heinz Allen.
- 7:32[SPEAKER_00]: He had a would be sack.
- 7:35[SPEAKER_00]: He had, he was applying pressure at different spots as well, playing the run at a high level, to want to smooth out a really good day.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_00]: Two sacks are run stuff and another pressure that led to a Danny Strick-out sack and speaking of Danny Strick-out.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: He's someone who could be... I think very high on the...
- 7:58[SPEAKER_00]: practice, practice squad kind of depth chart if you will.
- 8:02[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's going to make the team just based on the numbers, but he's made several plays throughout camp.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's been fairly consistent, made a lot of plays in college.
- 8:11[SPEAKER_00]: I think he's someone who they'll try to keep on that practice squad.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_00]: While the defense certainly did win the day, I thought that Liquid Allen did have one strong run, tank Biggsby overall, and Travis ETN had good practices catching the ball.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: Tank Biggsby had a nice catch down the field, Travis ETN had multiple catches down the field, and a one on one setting ETN had a big time.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_00]: leaping grab touchdown deep down the field.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_00]: So I thought both of those guys were good in the past game, which is important.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_00]: You also saw Bacial Tutan have a nice catch and run in the past game.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: So you kind of saw the backspin more effective in that regard today.
- 8:48[SPEAKER_00]: When you talk about the run, I mentioned Trevor Walker, Josh Hines Allen, FOIA, Luke, and Tyler Lacy had a run stuff.
- 8:59[SPEAKER_00]: We mentioned already that Austin Johnson made a big play in the run game.
- 9:03[SPEAKER_00]: Joshua Cephas.
- 9:04[SPEAKER_00]: He had two big catches down the field today.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_00]: He continues to impress.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: I would pencil him in on the roster for the fifty three.
- 9:11[SPEAKER_00]: Parker Washington.
- 9:12[SPEAKER_00]: I would write him in pen, playing well.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_00]: Multiple catches during special, I was during team portion of practice today.
- 9:19[SPEAKER_00]: BJ Green had a would be sack.
- 9:21[SPEAKER_00]: You see Rob Dula had a would be sack.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_00]: That graphic fears and had another pass break up today.
- 9:27[SPEAKER_00]: I put him on the roster too.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: Another good football player playing good ball.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_00]: Cam little, five of five during team.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: No surprise there.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_00]: He's been awesome.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_00]: During team punt.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Logan Cook not only got the pump blocking it to jump, he also got a punt down at the one yard line.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: And the coverage team did a good job getting down there and stopping the ball.
- 9:52[SPEAKER_00]: They didn't even really have to stop the ball.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: Literally stopped at the one yard line by itself.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, that was an unbelievable punt by Logan Cook.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Then you talk about Trevor Lawrence.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: Eight of twelve today.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: The one real blemish was the interception.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Lewis, and I don't even know if I blame Trevor.
- 10:17[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe he could have leveraged wise put it more inside, but it was a quick bang bang play when he threw the ball.
- 10:24[SPEAKER_00]: I thought it was going to be complete.
- 10:26[SPEAKER_00]: Short pass.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: Over the middle.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_00]: Jordan Lewis, it's like, as soon as the ball is in the air and the short areas of the field in his zone,
- 10:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's like a switch gets flipped and he is just like a magnet for the football Like his hands It's crazy He went around the receiver picked off the ball And he's made so many plays like that This was the first time I was over the middle of the field a lot of the time it has been um
- 11:04[SPEAKER_00]: in the flat towards the sideline.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: But that guy is unbelievable.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: He's been, I've never seen a defensive back in training camp.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_00]: Make more plays like jumping routes.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: And he doesn't get burned doing it either like he's just ready and waiting.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_00]: He doesn't like over leverage himself before the ball is released.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_00]: As soon as he sees that quarterback throw in the ball, he is after it.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_00]: It's crazy.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_00]: But Lawrence started off eleven on eleven with a big throw to tank Biggs be down the field, got behind Andrew Wingard.
- 11:43[SPEAKER_00]: Complete his next pass to Hunter Long for a medium game, completed his next pass, deep down the field.
- 11:52[SPEAKER_00]: then he fell to three of four.
- 11:53[SPEAKER_00]: He was slightly behind Brian Thomas Jr.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_00]: over the middle on that throw, but Brian Thomas Jr.
- 11:59[SPEAKER_00]: grabbed it.
- 12:00[SPEAKER_00]: It wasn't like way behind him.
- 12:01[SPEAKER_00]: It was slightly behind him, grabbed it, kind of pulled it in, but then Eric Murray ripped it out.
- 12:05[SPEAKER_00]: So that was a really good play by Eric Murray.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_00]: Got to four of five with a nice completion to Britain's strange short, then fell to four of six with the Jordan Lewis Interception completed a past short to Travis ETN, but it would have been a good gainer.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_00]: They were blockers out in front.
- 12:21[SPEAKER_00]: He then got sacked by Josh Hines Allen.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_00]: Fell to five of eight took a deep shot to Travis Hunter, but Tyson Campbell was just in perfect position and there was no chance for a hundred to go get the ball.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: Six of nine on the next one and seven of ten completed two straight passes to Travis Hunter.
- 12:40[SPEAKER_00]: So you do see them connecting a good bit.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: Then got to eight of eleven
- 12:48[SPEAKER_00]: completion to Brian Thomas Jr.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: Final throw of the day was a deep ball to Dehami Brown where there was just a little bit too much on it.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_00]: Dehami Brown did get behind Tyson Campbell, very impressive for anybody to be getting behind Tyson Campbell the way he's been practicing and playing so far throughout training camp.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_00]: So overall, again, I think
- 13:08[SPEAKER_00]: the defense brought more intensity and more energy today and Trevor Lawrence said as much Liam Cohen said they got to clean up the penalties that's the one thing you know discipline is what he wants cleaned up over the next couple days as they get ready for Pittsburgh Trevor Lawrence talked about bringing more energy the entire offense needs to do that Travis Hunter it just feels like when he's on offense there's more energy when he's not on offense there's less energy and that's not
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: That's not a question of correlation or causation.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_00]: It is causation.
- 13:42[SPEAKER_00]: Travis Hunter brings the juice, brings the energy.
- 13:45[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars need him on offense badly.
- 13:48[SPEAKER_00]: In my opinion.
- 13:50[SPEAKER_00]: So that's where we're at Trevor Lawrence.
- 13:53[SPEAKER_00]: Again, eight of twelve today, no touchdown passes, one interception.
- 13:58[SPEAKER_00]: Overall, I mean, another solid outing.
- 14:00[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, any time you're eight of twelve, that's pretty good.
- 14:03[SPEAKER_00]: The interception, hard to blame him for it.
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: Again, when it was released, I thought I was going to be a completion.
- 14:09[SPEAKER_00]: It's an amazing play by Jordan Lewis.
- 14:11[SPEAKER_00]: So Lawrence being eight of twelve, that gets him to, one of six plus eight is one fourteen.
- 14:20[SPEAKER_00]: One sixty two plus twelve is one seventy eight.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: So he's one fourteen and one seventy eight sixteen touchdowns four in reception seven drops one turnover worthy play.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: Let's see what is one fourteen over one seventy eight.
- 14:37[SPEAKER_00]: At a sixty four percent.
- 14:39[SPEAKER_00]: It's a pretty good job.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: cannot complain about how Trevor Lawrence has performed so far.
- 14:46[SPEAKER_00]: He's working just on progressing in the knowledge of the offense when he gets to the line of scrimmage, being able to get to the right checks, the right reads, working that footwork, you know, having in the shotgun, having to left foot forward instead of the right, making sure that his feet are always in a place
- 15:04[SPEAKER_00]: for him to be able to get a clean throw off, depending on where the progression is taking him, all that stuff.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm encouraged by where we're at right now from a Trevor Lawrence offense standpoint.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_00]: You want to see your defensive tackles get back out there, but the defensive line was bringing it today, even without Eric Armstrong's dead in Mason Smith.
- 15:27[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all tuning in.
- 15:28[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_00]: Y'all have a good one.
