- 0:09SPEAKER_00: What is going on guys welcome to this week's edition of the view from the front as
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: you know,
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: my name is Stan and Man,
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: what a week since last week.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: I Mean what a week You know
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: It's been a heavy week, an exhausting week.
- 0:34SPEAKER_00: The news has just been absolutely out of control from the very...
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: It seems like a year ago now,
- 0:43SPEAKER_00: but from the massive press conference...
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: at the end of the NATO summit,
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: where basically President Biden was auditioning to do an hour-plus long interview
- 0:55SPEAKER_00: with no notes,
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: answering tough questions from the press to keep his job.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: He did fairly well on that and pushed back some of the concerns about him staying
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: at the top of the ticket.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Then he had a great rally Friday night in Michigan.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: That was pretty well talked about.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: He brought a lot of fire and energy, made a strong case.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: Then we go on to Saturday.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: Former President Trump is having his rally.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: We know what happens there.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: There was the assassination attempt,
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: which was shocking,
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: and I think it almost stopped at the heart of the nation for a very brief amount of time.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: Everyone felt sick and...
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Just devastated by the violence that we saw.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: Thankfully, former President Trump wasn't hurt.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Of course, like everyone, I condone all forms of political violence or any type of violence.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: It's not how our country moves forward best,
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: although we do have a lot of violence in our political history,
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: unfortunately.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: So that happened Saturday.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Move into the week.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: A lot has happened this week as well.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Down in Florida...
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Judge Eileen Cannon threw out the case against Trump for the classified documents.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Now that's under appeal.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: I think, based on what most of the legal experts are saying, it will probably be reversed.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: I think there's even a chance that the courts may remove
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Judge Eileen Cannon, who has given many favorable delays and decisions to Trump.
- 2:38SPEAKER_00: He obviously appointed her, but that could end up being a good result if you care about the rule of law.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: But for anyone who saw the boxes and boxes of classified documents...
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: Anyone who's read the indictment, it was a disappointing decision for the rule of law.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: There's really no other way to say it.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Then the Republican National Convention kicks off,
- 3:06SPEAKER_00: and former President Trump names his vice presidential nominee.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: It's J.D.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: Vance from Ohio.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: If you know much about his record, he's definitely someone who has turned into a far-right person.
- 3:24SPEAKER_00: He certainly used to be critical of Trump, even once called him Hitler.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: But he changed to someone who is a complete populist,
- 3:35SPEAKER_00: who isn't concerned about international affairs,
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: who has said he does not care what happens to anyone in Ukraine.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: So he's made comments that are grossly irresponsible for someone who could be
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: second in line to become president.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: And then you fast forward to Wednesday,
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: the day I'm recording this,
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: and a lot has happened in regards to the President Biden situation and whether he
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: should step down or not.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Today, Adam Schiff, who is a very powerful member of Congress...
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: came out publicly saying that President Biden should step down.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: Additionally,
- 4:18SPEAKER_00: there was an article that ran that says there are 30 Democrats in the House who
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: have signed on,
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: or House Democrats in Congress,
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: who have signed saying that Biden should step down.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: So there's about 30 Democrats
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And there's about 30 more who haven't signed,
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: who want to sign and support it,
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: but they haven't signed it yet.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: So,
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: as I'm recording this on Wednesday,
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: it looks like we're almost exactly where we were a week ago,
- 4:45SPEAKER_00: where President Biden could be on the verge of being forced out or asked to step down,
- 4:52SPEAKER_00: or however that plays out.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: It certainly feels exactly as it did a week ago, to me anyway, that...
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: The bottom is very close to falling out,
- 5:03SPEAKER_00: and just as he had all that pressure going into that press conference on Thursday night,
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: which I watched,
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: it almost feels like something could happen there in the next day or two,
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: especially if Nancy Pelosi were to come out publicly.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: But there are articles out there that the highest-ranking Democrat right now in the House...
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Hakeem Jeffries wants him to step down.
- 5:27SPEAKER_00: There's also talk that the leader of the Senate Democrats, Chuck Schumer, wants him out.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Feels very... It feels heavy right now.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: I think if you keep up with the news at all, you have to be feeling the same way.
- 5:46SPEAKER_00: It just feels heavy.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Now, as I'm speaking right now, it's almost exactly 9 o'clock Eastern Time in the evening.
- 5:55SPEAKER_00: And I have some notes for some various news items.
- 6:01SPEAKER_00: Wasn't a heavy news week in foreign policy this week,
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: probably partly because so much was focused on everything happening domestically.
- 6:12SPEAKER_00: But, you know, we're closing down the floating pier off the coast of Israel.
- 6:20SPEAKER_00: I've got a story about the...
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Situation in China and the Philippines.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Nothing major news there, but U.S.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: officials have visited there and I've got some quotes I was going to share.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: But the more I've thought about it, I recorded earlier tonight the motivation and wisdom section.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: But the more I've thought about it,
- 6:40SPEAKER_00: I think I'm just going to play this one and do it the way that my gut is saying.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: I think I'm just not going to talk about the news this week because nothing that
- 6:50SPEAKER_00: I'm covering is nearly as important as all these bigger things going on right now.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: The country feels like it's on a knife's edge.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: So earlier tonight I recorded a much longer motivation and wisdom section.
- 7:07SPEAKER_00: I think I'm just going to share that part and hopefully you guys enjoy it.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Hopefully it touches you.
- 7:13SPEAKER_00: It's way longer than normal.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: I think it was like 15 or 16 minutes.
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: So I put some time into it probably because I was procrastinating because I just
- 7:21SPEAKER_00: didn't feel like covering the news with all this other bigger stuff going on.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: So
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Hopefully you guys are okay with giving me a pass this week,
- 7:31SPEAKER_00: but I think my heart is telling me that we're just going to skip most of the smaller,
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: very small news items.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: There's been,
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: like I said,
- 7:39SPEAKER_00: nothing big happen,
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: and I think we're just going to go straight to the motivation and wisdom section.
- 7:44SPEAKER_00: We'll all keep our eyes on the news.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: And I hope all of you guys can find some emotional and spiritual and mental peace in the coming days.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: Because it just feels like things are heavy right now.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: And I think all of us need to just try to breathe and get through them.
- 8:07SPEAKER_00: And we will get through them, as our country has done so many times before.
- 8:11SPEAKER_00: I am still an optimist and so I want to end on a high note,
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: but I'll share this motivation and wisdom and I think that'll be the show this week.
- 8:20SPEAKER_00: We'll keep it short.
- 8:22SPEAKER_00: I just think there's just too much going on to go into the weeds on foreign policy this week.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: The reality is that all the news is happening in the United States and many
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: important things will be increasingly decided in the coming days and weeks.
- 8:49SPEAKER_00: Hey guys, just a quick reminder.
- 8:51SPEAKER_00: If you enjoy the show,
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: you've been listening to it for a while,
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: and you'd like to support what I'm doing,
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: there's a few ways you can do so.
- 8:58SPEAKER_00: You can sign up on my Substack page, support the show at $5 per month.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: You can also do it through Patreon.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: I've got a link to that in the episode notes.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: And then finally, you can even just send a tip through Venmo.
- 9:10SPEAKER_00: I've got a link to that as well.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: I really appreciate all of your all's support.
- 9:16Thank you.
- 9:23SPEAKER_00: It is time for the best part of the show.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: This is the motivation and wisdom section.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: I share these each week because I know that life is hard and pep talks help.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: And I also know that sometimes you can get too close to a situation and not be able
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: to see what's happening.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: So I share some quotes of wisdom along with these motivational quotes because I
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: hope that at least one of them might speak to you,
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: might help you just a little bit.
- 9:53SPEAKER_00: Here is the first quote.
- 9:54SPEAKER_00: That's really good, isn't it?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: When a flower doesn't bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower.
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: As you get older, you realize the real prize is not cars, jewelry, purses, or things.
- 10:29SPEAKER_00: It is a strong, fit body, a sharp mind, and a peaceful but unshakable spirit.
- 10:39SPEAKER_00: Health is wealth.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: That's a really good one, is it not?
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: We so often take our health for granted and being able to move well.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: And so often we're tired and we want to lay on the couch after work.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: We don't want to get up and do anything anymore.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: But the reality is, is every time you can do something, it doesn't even have to be a great workout.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: It is literally an investment in your future.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: Health really is wealth.
- 11:05SPEAKER_00: Alright, here's the next quote.
- 11:07SPEAKER_00: It's kind of a, just a deeper one.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: When old people tell you their stories, don't stop them.
- 11:16SPEAKER_00: They are reliving their old days.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: Just a reminder to be kind if you're around someone who's a little older that's
- 11:23SPEAKER_00: wanting to share a story.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: I'm not even old.
- 11:25SPEAKER_00: I'm 47 and we have some interns in the office and
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: These younger people,
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: it's funny,
- 11:35SPEAKER_00: it doesn't matter what you've done,
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: sometimes they're not the greatest listeners,
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: I guess is the nicest way I would say it.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: And so, even at 47, I find myself often not even trying to share a story because...
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: you sometimes feel like they don't want to hear it or care,
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: or you'll mention a movie or some point that is very hard for them to understand
- 11:59SPEAKER_00: because they haven't seen the movie,
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: and it's from a different time period almost.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: You know,
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: the life story,
- 12:07SPEAKER_00: whether you're talking about a payphone or something,
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: they really can't even hardly wrap their arms around,
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: and so you're just like,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: ah,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: forget it,
- 12:13SPEAKER_00: I'm not even going to share the story,
- 12:15SPEAKER_00: but...
- 12:16SPEAKER_00: I think this quote's a good one.
- 12:17SPEAKER_00: When old people tell you their stories, don't stop them.
- 12:21SPEAKER_00: They are reliving their old days.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: All right, here's the next one.
- 12:27SPEAKER_00: Again, just because you took longer than others doesn't mean you failed.
- 12:33SPEAKER_00: You are right on time.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: So often we compare.
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: Comparison is the thief of joy, and we compare where we are in our journey.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: And we get frustrated and dejected and we're disappointed and often we want to quit.
- 12:57SPEAKER_00: If you just didn't compare, we would be so much better off, would we not?
- 13:03SPEAKER_00: Alright, here's the next quote.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: A lesson for life.
- 13:06SPEAKER_00: You cannot escape the difficult days.
- 13:09SPEAKER_00: You can only learn to live through them.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: That's a great one.
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: You cannot escape the difficult days.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: You can only learn to live through them.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Here's the next one.
- 13:18SPEAKER_00: Rest in peace to the opportunities we missed because of shyness and low self-esteem.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: That's another good one.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: Rest in peace to the opportunities we missed because of shyness and low self-esteem.
- 13:35SPEAKER_00: All of us need to be growing, right?
- 13:37SPEAKER_00: Let's not be shy.
- 13:38SPEAKER_00: Let's not have low self-esteem.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Let's think of a more positive picture of ourselves and let's set our sights higher.
- 13:50SPEAKER_00: You can do more than you're doing.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: You got this.
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Alright, here's the next one.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Once you have matured, you realize silence is more important than proving a point.
- 14:00SPEAKER_00: That's another good quote.
- 14:02SPEAKER_00: Once you have matured, you realize silence is more important than proving a point.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: I think all of us have probably...
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: ruined or damaged a friendship or relationship by trying to show the other side
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: that you're actually correct or right but often when you do that it
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: It causes more damage than it was probably worth.
- 14:29SPEAKER_00: Sometimes just let it go.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: It's not worth it.
- 14:32SPEAKER_00: And as you get older, you do realize it's hard to find friendships and relationships.
- 14:36SPEAKER_00: They are more valuable than gold,
- 14:38SPEAKER_00: and it is not worth damaging them just to prove a point that you're right about something.
- 14:44SPEAKER_00: All right, here's the next quote.
- 14:46SPEAKER_00: When you overthink,
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: remember this saying,
- 14:50SPEAKER_00: worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles,
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: it takes away today's peace.
- 14:57SPEAKER_00: I think you've probably heard that one before.
- 14:59SPEAKER_00: I'm pretty sure everyone out there has heard it.
- 15:02SPEAKER_00: I've heard it before, but it was so good that I saw it the other day.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: It's one of those, like, you just forget things.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, I'm going to read it again.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: So, worrying does not take away tomorrow's troubles.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: It takes away today's peace.
- 15:15SPEAKER_00: Here's the next quote.
- 15:16SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through expectation.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: That is just an incredible, incredible saying.
- 15:26SPEAKER_00: Sometimes we create our own heartbreaks through expectation.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: I've shared this before,
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: but I have done this to myself so many times,
- 15:34SPEAKER_00: but especially with my books back in the day.
- 15:39SPEAKER_00: Ten years ago,
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: I guess it was 2012,
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: so actually it was 12 years ago,
- 15:42SPEAKER_00: I published the first of many books that I've written.
- 15:47SPEAKER_00: And with nearly every single one, I expected more sales than I initially got, and I was disappointed.
- 15:56SPEAKER_00: And the irony is,
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: is a couple of them later went viral after I thought they weren't good,
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: or I'm not a good writer,
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: or this isn't meant to be,
- 16:05SPEAKER_00: blah blah blah.
- 16:07SPEAKER_00: No, it was just not the right timing.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: But we literally break our own hearts by setting unrealistic expectations that aren't even accurate.
- 16:18SPEAKER_00: Obviously, if the books sold well at a later point, they were good books.
- 16:24SPEAKER_00: There was nothing wrong with the books.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: There was nothing wrong with my writing.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: Nothing wrong with the story.
- 16:29SPEAKER_00: Nothing wrong with all the stuff I was running through my head.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: It was just not quite the right timing.
- 16:36SPEAKER_00: And so we've got to not crush our own spirits by putting an expectation that is not realistic.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Here's the next one.
- 16:48SPEAKER_00: Boundaries won't make you lose friends and relationships.
- 16:51SPEAKER_00: They'll make you lose pretenders and manipulators.
- 16:56SPEAKER_00: That is a deep one.
- 16:57SPEAKER_00: I want to read that one at least one more time, maybe twice.
- 17:01SPEAKER_00: Boundaries won't make you lose friends and relationships.
- 17:07SPEAKER_00: They'll make you lose pretenders and manipulators.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: Man, that's a good one.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Here's another quote.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: Again, stop telling people everything.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: Most people don't care, and some secretly want you to fail.
- 17:30SPEAKER_00: Here's the next one.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Don't trust words.
- 17:32SPEAKER_00: Trust actions.
- 17:35SPEAKER_00: Another great one.
- 17:37SPEAKER_00: Don't trust words.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: Trust actions.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: So much talk out there.
- 17:43SPEAKER_00: I want to see action.
- 17:44SPEAKER_00: I want to see actual effort.
- 17:47SPEAKER_00: I want to see people attempting things.
- 17:49SPEAKER_00: Everyone talks big.
- 17:51SPEAKER_00: I want to see someone act big.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: Okay, here's the final one for this week.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: You're creating problems in your head again.
- 18:01SPEAKER_00: Stop that.
- 18:03SPEAKER_00: This one was just, I saw it and I had to save it.
- 18:06SPEAKER_00: You're creating problems in your head again.
- 18:08SPEAKER_00: Stop that.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: If you're anything like me,
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: your head runs all the time and you're often doing exactly what that quote says.
- 18:19SPEAKER_00: You're creating problems in your head again.
- 18:21SPEAKER_00: Stop that.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Now let's do a few from the Bible.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: I always like to share a few from the Bible or that touch on Jesus just because
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: Christianity and the Bible have become such an incredible source of strength and
- 18:36SPEAKER_00: wisdom and calm for me during the past couple of years.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: And I hope by sharing a few that maybe it'll encourage you to get into the Bible
- 18:45SPEAKER_00: yourself because I think it will really help you.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Here is the first quote.
- 18:51SPEAKER_00: May I never forget on my best day that I still need God as desperately as I did on my worst.
- 19:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, that's such a good one.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: May I never forget on my best day that I still need God as desperately as I did on my worst.
- 19:10SPEAKER_00: Here is the next one.
- 19:12SPEAKER_00: If you are in a season of waiting for God's move in your life, keep praising Him in the hallway.
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: Again,
- 19:23SPEAKER_00: if you are in a season of waiting for God's next move in your life,
- 19:27SPEAKER_00: keep praising Him in the hallway.
- 19:31SPEAKER_00: Alright, here is the next one.
- 19:37SPEAKER_00: Again, give all your worries and cares to God, for God cares about you.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: That's from 1 Peter 5, verse 7.
- 19:54SPEAKER_00: Here's the next one.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: God has already prepared the way.
- 19:58SPEAKER_00: He's just preparing you.
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: That's so good, isn't it?
- 20:03SPEAKER_00: God has already prepared the way.
- 20:05SPEAKER_00: He's just preparing you.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: And then here was someone had shared on threads,
- 20:13SPEAKER_00: which is of course the Facebook or meta version of Twitter,
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: but someone had shared that seven keys to life.
- 20:22SPEAKER_00: It was from the
- 20:24SPEAKER_00: account called living underscore Christian,
- 20:28SPEAKER_00: but the account living underscore Christian shared seven keys to life that they'd
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: come up with.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Number one, let go of the past, but learn from it.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Number two, open your Bible more than your phone.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: Number three, love others the way Jesus loves you.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: Number four, be compassionate for those stuck in sin.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: Number five, involve God with the big decisions.
- 20:56SPEAKER_00: Number six, forgive others that hurt you.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: Number seven, trust God more.
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: Those were pretty good.
- 21:07SPEAKER_00: Pretty good for sure.
- 21:09SPEAKER_00: All right, let's do one more.
- 21:12SPEAKER_00: I saw this one shared on threads, and it was really good, and then I looked up the verses.
- 21:16SPEAKER_00: So I'm going to read the part that was shared on threads,
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: and then I'm going to read the actual verses from the chapter.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: So the part shared on threads says, In Matthew 25...
- 21:31SPEAKER_00: Jesus describes true converts as being marked by a peculiar empathy toward the poor,
- 21:41SPEAKER_00: the marginalized,
- 21:43SPEAKER_00: and the incarcerated.
- 21:46SPEAKER_00: But he describes,
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: he being Jesus,
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: Jesus describes false converts as being outwardly religious,
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: but marked by a peculiar callousness toward the poor,
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: the marginalized,
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: and the incarcerated.
- 22:06SPEAKER_00: So I looked it up, Matthew 25, thought I'd read it.
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: A,
- 22:10SPEAKER_00: I wanted to double check the person that had shared this,
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: but then when I read it,
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: I was obviously pretty familiar with this story,
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: but we all can use a good reminder,
- 22:21SPEAKER_00: especially these days.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: I think some Christians...
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: are a little too much on the judgment and a little too little on the loving and giving.
- 22:33SPEAKER_00: And so I thought I'd share this because this hits everyone, including myself.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: And so it's Matthew chapter 25.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: I begin with verse 31.
- 22:45SPEAKER_00: These are the words of Jesus, by the way.
- 22:46SPEAKER_00: They are written in red.
- 22:48SPEAKER_00: But when the Son of Man comes in his glory and all the angels with him,
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: then he will sit upon his glorious throne.
- 22:59SPEAKER_00: All the nations will be gathered in his presence,
- 23:01SPEAKER_00: and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats.
- 23:07SPEAKER_00: He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: then the king will say to those on his right come you are blessed by my father
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world
- 23:22SPEAKER_00: For I was hungry and you fed me.
- 23:25SPEAKER_00: I was thirsty and you gave me a drink.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: I was a stranger and you invited me into your home.
- 23:32SPEAKER_00: I was naked and you gave me clothing.
- 23:36SPEAKER_00: I was sick and you cared for me.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: I was in prison and you visited me.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: Then these righteous ones will reply,
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: Lord,
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: when did we ever see you hungry and feed you,
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: or thirsty and give you something to drink,
- 23:52SPEAKER_00: or a stranger and show you hospitality,
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: or naked and give you clothing?
- 23:59SPEAKER_00: When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?
- 24:04SPEAKER_00: and the king will say i tell you the truth when you did it to one of the least of
- 24:10SPEAKER_00: these my brothers and sisters you were doing it to me then the king will turn to
- 24:16SPEAKER_00: those on the left and say away with you you cursed ones into the eternal fire
- 24:21SPEAKER_00: prepared for the devil and his demons
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: For I was hungry, and you didn't feed me.
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: I was thirsty, and you didn't give me drink.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: I was a stranger, and you didn't invite me into your home.
- 24:33SPEAKER_00: I was naked, and you didn't give me clothing.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: I was sick and in prison, and you didn't visit me.
- 24:42SPEAKER_00: Then they will reply,
- 24:43SPEAKER_00: When you refused to help the least of these,
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: my brothers and sisters,
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: you were refusing to help me.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: And then the final verse,
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: and they will go away into eternal punishment,
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: but the righteous will go into eternal life.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Man, I don't know about you, but that is a tough message.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: And it definitely hits home as much as it probably hits you guys because I have
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: certainly not visited any prisons lately.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: And I will say I'm a very generous person.
- 25:29SPEAKER_00: I try to do various kinds of giving and helping and things I won't name because I
- 25:36SPEAKER_00: don't do it to name things or share things.
- 25:39SPEAKER_00: But...
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Have I visited a prison?
- 25:42SPEAKER_00: Can't say that I have.
- 25:44SPEAKER_00: Can't say that if I saw someone on the street that didn't have a home,
- 25:51SPEAKER_00: that I would invite them into my house.
- 25:55SPEAKER_00: And so these are...
- 25:56SPEAKER_00: These are a series of verses that they hit home, I think.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: I think they should hit all of us.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: And so I hope you got something from that.
- 26:07SPEAKER_00: And I know that tonight's show is a little different than typical episodes,
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: but it's been a heavy week,
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: so I hope you understand.
- 26:16SPEAKER_00: One quick final update.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: Having listened through it again, that was a little too heavy to end the show with.
- 26:26SPEAKER_00: So I want to just read through some optimistic verses of the Bible to close out the episode.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: the first one is from john 14 verse 27 peace i leave with you my peace i give to
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: you not as the world gives do i give to you let not your hearts be troubled neither
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: let them be afraid
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: Next one's from Joshua chapter 1 verse 9.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Have I not commanded you?
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: Be strong and courageous.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Do not be frightened and do not be dismayed.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: Then we're going to jump over to Romans chapter 8 verse 28.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: And we know that for those who love God,
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: all things work together for good for those who are called according to his purpose.
- 27:21SPEAKER_00: Then we'll jump to Romans 8, 31.
- 27:24SPEAKER_00: If God be for us, who can be against us?
- 27:29SPEAKER_00: And then one final one, Romans 15, verse 13.
- 27:32SPEAKER_00: May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him,
- 27:38SPEAKER_00: so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Again, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: Thanks so much for joining us this week.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: I hope as you go through this week that you act a little nicer on social media and in the world as well.
- 28:00SPEAKER_00: Smile at folks in the grocery store.
- 28:03SPEAKER_00: Do small acts of kindness.
- 28:04SPEAKER_00: And remember that most Americans are good.
- 28:07SPEAKER_00: and they will help you in an emergency, even if you don't agree politically.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: As you go through this week, I want you to aim to be more motivated and more disciplined.
- 28:17SPEAKER_00: Try to improve yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: You don't have to set impossible goals on these matters,
- 28:24SPEAKER_00: just be a little more motivated and disciplined than you were the week prior.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: As I said earlier, I really hope that you spend some time in your Bible this week.
- 28:35SPEAKER_00: If you have no idea where to read on your own, just start with Psalms or Proverbs.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: Read some of those and then start with the New Testament by reading the book of John.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Moving to a final note on the political front,
- 28:49SPEAKER_00: I'm confident after this episode you're going to hear some bad news this week,
- 28:54SPEAKER_00: where you're going to hear something ugly,
- 28:55SPEAKER_00: and it's going to remind you of how divided we are.
- 28:58SPEAKER_00: This is as certain as the law of gravity.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: But I'm begging you, please do not give up on this country.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: I know it's pretty ugly right now,
- 29:07SPEAKER_00: and I know we're living in dark times,
- 29:09SPEAKER_00: but we've made it through nearly 250 years together,
- 29:12SPEAKER_00: and we're far stronger together than we'll ever be apart.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Don't ever believe anyone who tells you differently about that.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Let me wrap up the show by talking about my books and a couple of other newsletters that I do.
- 29:25SPEAKER_00: First, a bit about myself and my books.
- 29:28SPEAKER_00: I am a military vet.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: I spent four years in the Marine Corps, all of that time in the infantry.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: And yes, that does matter.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: After my enlistment, I went to college at the University of Tennessee.
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: I became a journalist.
- 29:39SPEAKER_00: I spent more than 10 years in the news business.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Besides all of that, I've also written 12 books.
- 29:44SPEAKER_00: Those books include a series about a Marine Corps sniper,
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: several novels about a police detective and a private investigator,
- 29:51SPEAKER_00: and a few books about war,
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: such as World War II and Afghanistan.
- 29:55SPEAKER_00: Basically,
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: these are all fast-moving books with lots of action and plot twists,
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: because those are the kind of books I've always enjoyed reading.
- 30:03SPEAKER_00: You can find all of those books in the link in the episode notes,
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: or you can look on Amazon by just searching my name,
- 30:10SPEAKER_00: Stan R.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: Mitchell.
- 30:12SPEAKER_00: Buying a book,
- 30:13SPEAKER_00: telling a friend about a book,
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: or buying one as a gift for someone,
- 30:17SPEAKER_00: friend or loved one,
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: is a great way to help support the show.
- 30:21SPEAKER_00: Now, I always like to end each show by reminding people that you can comment anytime.
- 30:24SPEAKER_00: I try to monitor those.
- 30:26SPEAKER_00: You can also reach out privately by email to me at AuthorStanRMitchell at Yahoo.com.
- 30:33SPEAKER_00: And that's in the episode notes, by the way.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: But again, it's AuthorStanRMitchell at Yahoo.com.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: Hey, here's one other thing.
- 30:40SPEAKER_00: This podcast is about defense news, but I also do a political blog.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: So if you love my moderate, optimistic views, you might enjoy that.
- 30:49SPEAKER_00: It's called Thoughts from a Southern Gentleman.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: You can find a link to the episode notes to that, or you can just search that on Google.
- 30:56SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for hanging with me this week.
- 30:59SPEAKER_00: It's truly an honor to talk with each of you and to know that there's a few of you
- 31:03SPEAKER_00: out there who are listening and who care about our country and our military and all
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: the issues that we face.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: I know there are a lot of scary issues out there,
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: but we're going to get through them together,
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: the same way America's gotten through everything before this.
- 31:17SPEAKER_00: If you can at all this week,
- 31:19SPEAKER_00: reach out to a friend or anyone who you know is struggling,
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: whether they are young or old.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: Life is truly hard.
- 31:26SPEAKER_00: We know this.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: But the true strength of this country is its people,
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: and that includes you folks listening to me right now.
- 31:32SPEAKER_00: So be a leader, be a doer, be a servant to someone.
- 31:36SPEAKER_00: With all of that being said, I'll catch you all next week.
- 31:39SPEAKER_00: You have been listening to The View from the Front.
- 31:43Thank you.
