- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Today I'm speaking with Jean Wright, author of Selling Your Confidence, Forging a Successful Sales Career from Mint Cookies to Martinis.
- 1:46SPEAKER_03: is a sales confidence builder and speaker who coaches women entrepreneurs to say goodbye to their sales fears.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: In Selling Your Confidence, Jean shares lessons from her four decades of sales experience, providing confidence-building tips and empowerment for success.
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: She's on a mission to empower women to tap into their unique strengths, use their authentic style, and be more successful with their businesses.
- 2:16SPEAKER_03: Welcome, Jean.
- 2:18SPEAKER_03: Hello, Tina.
- 2:20SPEAKER_03: I am excited to have you because I don't like sales.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: And I want you to tell me how I can be confident in selling and not sound salesy, as they say, with
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: ease.
- 2:39SPEAKER_02: So I think, Tina, we have to understand that a lot of us in our culture have grown to dislike the word sales because of all of our previous experiences with salespeople.
- 2:52SPEAKER_02: And sometimes those experiences are with salesmen who make us feel like we don't understand what we're buying.
- 3:03SPEAKER_02: They may feel like they're more knowledgeable than we are and they're a little intimidating and just give us some we're a little more scared to make a decision because we feel like we don't have all the information.
- 3:17SPEAKER_02: We're being pressured and we don't really want to buy.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: And that's what salespeople do.
- 3:23SPEAKER_02: They make us part with our money.
- 3:26SPEAKER_02: And then afterwards we have that guilt about it.
- 3:29SPEAKER_02: Like, what did I just do?
- 3:31SPEAKER_02: Why am I feeling bad about this?
- 3:33SPEAKER_02: I'm not sure I wanted to spend that money.
- 3:35SPEAKER_02: And they feel like they've been, we feel like we've been manipulated.
- 3:39SPEAKER_02: So yeah, We have to let go of those images that we don't have to be that person to be in sales because frankly, aren't we selling every day to each other?
- 3:53SPEAKER_02: I think we have spoken excitedly to our friends about something that we have that we'd love for them to try or we'd love for them to buy it because we know it's going to change their life, right?
- 4:08SPEAKER_02: And so I think if we take our authenticity and put that out there, like what it is we believe in and we have passion for, I think that way we will not feel like we're being salespeople.
- 4:24SPEAKER_02: We're actually excited about having you buy it or try something that we feel will benefit you.
- 4:35SPEAKER_02: So that's the first step in not having that salesy feel because those past experiences and how we can authentically make it our own kind of pitch and how we feel somebody else should feel about it.
- 4:51SPEAKER_02: So I've really decided that the word salesy should be changed into how we feel.
- 4:58SPEAKER_02: Actually, it's not even a word in the dictionary.
- 5:01SPEAKER_02: It's just a made up word to describe a feeling that you get when someone is trying to sell to you with all those types of traits that I mentioned before, the manipulation, the intimidation, that sort of thing, aggressiveness.
- 5:16SPEAKER_02: How about we change the word salesy into a positive affirmation, like selling authentically, like everyone sees you.
- 5:27SPEAKER_02: And that's a salesy word.
- 5:31SPEAKER_02: but it's also a way to make it positive, showing our authenticity in the sales process.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 5:40SPEAKER_03: So I like that.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: I like that.
- 5:46SPEAKER_03: So how do we do that?
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Like, how do we, I guess we have to, it's a mindset.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: It's a mindset.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: We have to change how we feel about the word and not feel like I have to sell In other words, I'm going to help someone feel better about the problem that they may have or a situation they're in where they need to have a better outcome and how you're gonna help them.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: But if we get to know that person more and understand what it is they have to solve, then it's easier for us to come up with the solution.
- 6:25SPEAKER_02: So we have to do a lot more listening in a conversation that we have with somebody, really hear what it is that they need instead of throwing in that sales pitch from the very beginning that may not even be what they're waiting to hear.
- 6:43SPEAKER_02: You may have to adjust everything that you're selling to them or want them to have according to what their need is.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 6:51SPEAKER_02: So
- 6:51SPEAKER_03: basically build a relationship.
- 6:53SPEAKER_03: so that you know yeah so you know what their needs really are because they might think they need you know product a but really they might need product b they just don't know
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: it right and you won't know it either until you've talked to them enough and asked them enough questions because that whole sales uh situation that you're in you're facing someone who's looking at you and looking for information well they do want to hear what you have to offer but not until you've got enough information from them and then you can tailor your solutions toward that so listening is so important to the whole relationship that you're building it's not really about you it's all about them and what they need so It's hard sometimes to do a lot of listening because we always want to put all that information out there and oh my goodness, we want to fill in all those silent times when we're in a conversation and what do we say next?
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: Just let the other person keep talking and ask them questions.
- 8:03SPEAKER_02: Try to do some research in advance before you meet with them and get some information about who they are, what they need, what they do, So that you can ask those questions and be prepared.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: For sure.
- 8:18SPEAKER_03: So would you say then you're like what you are building the confidence with is more for like someone who maybe has like their own business, like a coaching, like real estate?
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: Because I'm picturing myself walking into, you know, like, you know, Best Buy or like a you know, like a computer store and I think I need this, this and this, but the guy that I'm talking to doesn't know my job.
- 8:46SPEAKER_03: And for me to tell him like, well, I don't know exactly what this is, but I know that, you know, someone told me that if I have this, then, you know, I can do this better.
- 8:56SPEAKER_03: How, so how, like, I mean, as a, as a salesperson, I mean, they don't, really know what I want I mean unless they're really good and they know my job because of their past experiences right now as a coach like you would help me as a coach as far as how to get how to I get my products out there my my
- 9:20SPEAKER_01: services right
- 9:22SPEAKER_03: right so that's kind of more what you're talking about you're not really talking about me going to buy a computer or an accessory to a computer
- 9:30SPEAKER_02: Well, actually, you know, a good salesperson in that store would probably say, well, what exactly are you going to use this computer for?
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: And, you know, maybe I don't need the high end.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: You don't need the high end that does everything that is more than you need.
- 9:46SPEAKER_02: And they may try to tailor it more, just like you buy a refrigerator.
- 9:50SPEAKER_02: Not everybody wants a door to door, you know, a side by side.
- 9:53SPEAKER_02: They may want to just a regular refrigerator.
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: So that's all they really need.
- 9:58SPEAKER_02: And that's how they have a small family or whatever.
- 10:00SPEAKER_02: So somebody should be asking you those questions when you do buy something, you know, in a retail situation or any situation.
- 10:09SPEAKER_02: What I do is coach women according to what it is there.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: If you're an entrepreneur, let's face it.
- 10:17SPEAKER_02: You have a lot of hats to wear and you have your product, your service.
- 10:22SPEAKER_02: You're excited about it.
- 10:24SPEAKER_02: You want everyone to be your client.
- 10:27SPEAKER_02: Love what it is that you have to offer.
- 10:29SPEAKER_02: But now you have to go out and sell it because it's not going to sell itself.
- 10:36SPEAKER_02: You have to have people that may have tried your product to give you referrals or recommendations or reviews.
- 10:45SPEAKER_02: But how do you do a face-to-face with somebody?
- 10:48SPEAKER_02: Because you're afraid of selling, right?
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: And that's what we all have to overcome is...
- 10:55SPEAKER_02: We're empathetic people.
- 10:57SPEAKER_02: We care about people.
- 10:58SPEAKER_02: We want to help you.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: And you're going to talk to that other person about the needs that they have for your coaching or whatever product or service you offer.
- 11:08SPEAKER_02: And ask those questions and just pull it out of yourself that this is how your sales process is going to be.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: It's more about them and how you're going to help them.
- 11:19SPEAKER_02: And then you're going to come back and say, now, this is what I'm hearing from you.
- 11:25SPEAKER_02: You're telling me that you need to get better at this, or you feel like you have to improve that.
- 11:31SPEAKER_02: And you can't sleep at night because you're thinking about this.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: And then you can say, and this is how I can help you with this, this and this.
- 11:41SPEAKER_02: When we work together, this is the result that I can show you.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: And when you...
- 11:47SPEAKER_02: have an easier time saying, yes, that sounds great.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: That's just what I need.
- 11:53SPEAKER_02: And, and then, oh, it does cost this much, but because you've already told them all the things that they're going to get from you because they need this, that when you provide, hopefully the price will be what they'll expect, or maybe they'll spend what they know they have to spend to get it.
- 12:12SPEAKER_02: And they really want to work with you is what they want to
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: do.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 12:16SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 12:17SPEAKER_03: Cause they, they need a solution and they don't know, they don't know themselves how to, but they think you do as okay.
- 12:25SPEAKER_03: My next question then is, would you help?
- 12:29SPEAKER_03: So my thing is, okay, so I, I want to hire a coach cause I need help with this.
- 12:36SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 12:36SPEAKER_03: And You know, the coach gives me the price of the service that she can help me with.
- 12:42SPEAKER_03: And I go, whoa, I wasn't really willing to spend that kind of money.
- 12:48SPEAKER_03: Now, I know that it's an investment on myself.
- 12:50SPEAKER_03: I'm going to improve, give myself a better life in the end.
- 12:54SPEAKER_03: But it's still a lot of money.
- 12:56SPEAKER_03: As the coach now, how do you decide what the price is that doesn't blow the mind?
- 13:05SPEAKER_02: So think about yourself, not only what you're going to teach that person or coach them on, but think about all of the experience and the work that you're bringing into coaching that person.
- 13:17SPEAKER_02: So don't you have to do a little bit of homework?
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: You just don't show up and say, okay, today we're going to do this.
- 13:23SPEAKER_02: And you think about it and on the fly and make it all up as you're in front of the person.
- 13:28SPEAKER_02: No, you have a planned approach.
- 13:31SPEAKER_02: You have a planned program.
- 13:33SPEAKER_02: You have, and we're going to do this today, and this is our first session, and we're going to cover this.
- 13:38SPEAKER_02: And then on our second session, we're going to cover that.
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: And this is the value that you're bringing, like everything that you're preparing for them to be in the session or be in whatever service that you're offering.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: And so it's not necessarily just that time you're in front of them.
- 13:54SPEAKER_02: It's also all the preparation and all the work you're doing and all of your expertise that you're bringing into it.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: And You could do one of two things.
- 14:04SPEAKER_02: You could, at the beginning of your program, your presentation with a person, say, no, I do want to make sure that we understand that we all have budgets and that if there is a certain budget that you feel is important to you, like a range of pricing that you would consider and you want to let me know that in advance, that would be helpful for us so that we can make sure that what we're doing And in the end will be in your budget.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: You could do that.
- 14:36SPEAKER_02: Or sometimes people have preconceived notions about how much things cost before they even get into it.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: So they may have no idea what a coaching package would be with you.
- 14:47SPEAKER_02: So if they come back at you saying, oh, I don't have that much money.
- 14:52SPEAKER_02: I don't know what, I don't think I can afford it or whatever.
- 14:56SPEAKER_02: Maybe you can say to them is what were you expecting?
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: Can you give me an idea of what you think would be a fair price?
- 15:04SPEAKER_02: If you have an opportunity to negotiate a little bit with somebody, it's okay to say, well, maybe we can come to a mutual agreement about what would be a good starting rate to get you started and see how it goes.
- 15:18SPEAKER_02: And then here's my full package that really will go more in depth and they'll get a chance to start working with you and know you and feel good about like, I really like this person.
- 15:29SPEAKER_02: And she's letting me get started a little bit more on my terms.
- 15:33SPEAKER_02: And then I'm going to probably go further with her.
- 15:37SPEAKER_02: If you have that ability to do a little bit of that, like say to them, well, what was it that you were thinking this was going to cost?
- 15:45SPEAKER_02: Or you could say, if you research other people in my industry, this is the range that you'll usually reach.
- 15:53SPEAKER_02: fee for the fees that we charge just because they may not have done homework to really know what it does cost to be coached right right
- 16:04SPEAKER_03: service yeah so you wouldn't ask a client or a potential client what are you willing to spend and then no number no okay just say
- 16:13SPEAKER_02: what what did you think it would cost what would what what How valuable is this?
- 16:18SPEAKER_02: After I've told you everything that I'm going to do for you and I'm going to provide all this customer service, tell me what you feel that value would be to you.
- 16:28SPEAKER_02: How much would you expect to pay for something?
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: All that I'm offering you.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Everything that I'm offering you.
- 16:37SPEAKER_02: If they come back at you and not seem like that's what they were thinking.
- 16:41SPEAKER_02: Because there could be something that they had some preconceived notions about what a coach does.
- 16:47SPEAKER_02: But if you've really covered the gamut of all the services you provide and follow up with her, you know, like I'm going to also be doing follow ups with you.
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: I'll be doing check ins with you.
- 16:58SPEAKER_02: You know, in addition to the time you have in person for the actual coaching session.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: So all the value that you bring to that program that you're offering.
- 17:10SPEAKER_02: And I think that's how people will have a better understanding of what they're paying for.
- 17:14SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: And that makes sense.
- 17:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah,
- 17:17SPEAKER_03: yeah.
- 17:18SPEAKER_03: And so with your experience, I'm going to go back to the realtors.
- 17:25SPEAKER_03: I think that's what they're called, right?
- 17:27SPEAKER_03: My dad was in real estate years and years ago, and he was called an agent.
- 17:32SPEAKER_03: But I think now they're called realtors.
- 17:34SPEAKER_03: I find the ones that I know, they're already confident.
- 17:40SPEAKER_03: How do you sort of make...
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: people more confident because I mean I'm not a salesperson and but yet I mean and it's been pointed out to me that I sell to my children every single day right since if you do this I'll give you this right right and so tell me how do you walk someone through the the whole process of being you know not confident too confident to use the word sales in a way that is like a positive for the customer or client.
- 18:16SPEAKER_03: Right, right.
- 18:16SPEAKER_02: Well, so I think there are a few things too.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: The sales image, we have to get that sales image of what people do every day in sales.
- 18:27SPEAKER_02: And we're not necessarily standing there in front of this mean looking person who's forcing us to do something.
- 18:33SPEAKER_02: Because if you think about all of our sales transactions in different ways, There are different ways people sell to you and you don't even realize it.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Think of the people that you like to buy things from and how you feel about it when you do it.
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: Those are the kinds of people you want to pull those traits from, the sales traits that you think are more appealing that you'd like to adopt.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: So you can do that.
- 18:57SPEAKER_02: There are different ways that you can pull that out of you, your confidence to make that happen.
- 19:04SPEAKER_02: Because if they made that you feel comfortable, then you'll probably make that other person feel comfortable if you're pulling out those same sales techniques that they're doing that's really pretty nice.
- 19:16SPEAKER_02: Like I love this product and I love how she's presenting it to me and I really like her and I want to refer her to somebody else.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: Like that's who you want to be.
- 19:25SPEAKER_02: You want to be that person, like the person you emulate.
- 19:28SPEAKER_02: So let's think of that.
- 19:29SPEAKER_02: Who do you really like?
- 19:31SPEAKER_02: Take something out of your purse and say, and start talking about it to somebody like, you really, I love this.
- 19:37SPEAKER_02: These are all the features that I appreciate about this product.
- 19:42SPEAKER_02: And the benefits of it are just amazing.
- 19:44SPEAKER_02: Like people will stop you, they'll tell you how pretty you look, or they'll tell you, you know, like you should use this all the time.
- 19:51SPEAKER_02: It's a great color for you.
- 19:53SPEAKER_02: Like, don't you want all the benefits of having those wonderful features of that product?
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: So, I mean, there's some ways that you can pull in all those experiences that you've had, like really change your mindset Bring in all those things that you feel you like about other people that sell something to you and what it is that makes it feel more comfortable to you.
- 20:16SPEAKER_02: You were mentioning about, you think that real estate people are very confident.
- 20:22SPEAKER_02: Why do you think that real estate people are very confident?
- 20:25SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:26SPEAKER_03: I mean, the few that I've met in my life.
- 20:28SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 20:29SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 20:30SPEAKER_02: Is it because they...
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: have a lot of experience selling homes or you just think that they know how to, they're well-trained in how they present themselves.
- 20:41SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 20:42SPEAKER_03: Like I feel like it's, it's about their, yeah, they, they feel that they have the experience, I guess.
- 20:51SPEAKER_03: And one time my uncle's actually is a realtor and he was selling a house that I have, or I think it was, he was buying a house for my parents.
- 20:59SPEAKER_03: Like he was helping them buy a house and he, I had asked him, like, how do you know about like condos versus homes and, you know, all that stuff?
- 21:08SPEAKER_03: And he said his answer actually was awesome because he said the house sells itself.
- 21:15SPEAKER_03: I'm here just to answer questions that you might have.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 21:19SPEAKER_03: And I thought, OK, that kind of makes sense, because really, if I don't like the house, I don't care what you tell me.
- 21:27SPEAKER_03: I'm not going to like the house.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 21:30SPEAKER_03: So he didn't have to say, you know, this house has this and it has that there's air conditioning.
- 21:36SPEAKER_03: There's, you know, he didn't need to say that because my parents knew what they wanted.
- 21:40SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: And that's what he was showing them.
- 21:44SPEAKER_03: But he's a, he's not really a good example because I know him and I know that.
- 21:50SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 21:51SPEAKER_03: But at the same time, like the few that I know, they just come off as very confident.
- 21:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 21:56UNKNOWN: Yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Well, I think I answered my own question because I think like when he answered me, the house sells itself.
- 22:04SPEAKER_03: All you have to do, like as a realtor, you just need to have the knowledge of what that house has to offer other than what you can see.
- 22:12SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 22:13SPEAKER_02: But you can also be excited about showing, look at this room, open the door, dramatically showing a room and how, you know, can't you see yourself here?
- 22:25SPEAKER_02: Wouldn't this be great for the kids?
- 22:27SPEAKER_02: Any colorful language that gives them a way to envision themselves there is also very helpful.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: If you ever watch some shows on TV that show these people redoing homes and then bringing them in and saying, This is going to be great for your son who loves this.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: And don't you think, you know, they add these colorful descriptions and they help them envision them sitting there in the home.
- 22:57SPEAKER_02: I think when you know that, you know, let's face it, you only really have to sell one home to have a really nice commission.
- 23:07SPEAKER_02: And those are high ticket.
- 23:09SPEAKER_02: These are very high ticket items like cars, you know, like you want the person to feel like this is something they want.
- 23:16SPEAKER_02: And the more that you can encourage them to visualize themselves in that situation or sitting behind that wheel, wouldn't you love to be with your family behind the wheel of this car, the beautiful upholstery and the, all these special details that are inside.
- 23:33SPEAKER_02: So, you know, tell people how much they're going to love it.
- 23:36SPEAKER_02: because why wouldn't they, you know, the more that you can embellish your, and it's true, you're, you're helping them visualize what their life will be like here.
- 23:46SPEAKER_02: I mean, it's helpful.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: And when you're in a big ticket item like that, you know, that's, that's going to sway it a little bit more to, you know, they're going to spend a lot of time with you because they know it's going to be worth it for them, you know, in the end.
- 24:03SPEAKER_02: And That's why people stage homes because they want you to visualize yourself in that home with this furniture.
- 24:10SPEAKER_02: It's not the old people's furniture, the people that live there.
- 24:13SPEAKER_02: It's something new that they've set up to kind of help you visualize.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:16SPEAKER_02: And picture yourself.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 24:18SPEAKER_02: There's nobody else's pictures there.
- 24:20SPEAKER_02: There's nobody else's clothes sitting there.
- 24:23SPEAKER_02: They want you to put your...
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: figure out how your things are going to look there.
- 24:27SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 24:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, exactly.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Exactly.
- 24:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, that's true.
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: I never, I mean, I thought about that, but I didn't think of that as being the sales part.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: So maybe I have a whole new, like a whole different definition of what sales is.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: I mean, really, right.
- 24:43SPEAKER_01: Because you can use the
- 24:45SPEAKER_02: sales process, but you can do it however you want to make it be.
- 24:49SPEAKER_02: Whenever you have women demonstrating cosmetics, Don't they always like bring them to your home, bring your friends.
- 24:55SPEAKER_02: Let's all try it on.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Let's see how pretty we all look.
- 24:59SPEAKER_02: Don't you purchase it after you've tried it?
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Probably.
- 25:02SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: And Julie, how great you look or you try on clothes.
- 25:07SPEAKER_02: If you have a clothes, clothes party, you go to the store and the person with you is helping you buy it.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: You look great in that.
- 25:15SPEAKER_02: That's the best color on you.
- 25:17SPEAKER_02: She's doing all the features of that, that piece of that wardrobe.
- 25:23SPEAKER_02: that you're trying on that you don't really see it because you're you and you need somebody from outside the box that help you to persuade you to make the right decision.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 25:34SPEAKER_02: And think of what we do in everyday life.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: You can do that in your own sales.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: So I want to ask you, you wrote a book.
- 25:43SPEAKER_02: I did.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: And tell us what it's called.
- 25:47SPEAKER_02: So my book is called Selling Your Confidence.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: And it is a little story because the subtitle is Forging a Successful Sales Career from Mint Cookies to Martinis.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: And what I decided is I wanted to write about a lot of different experiences I've had in selling for my career because I've worked for a number of different businesses and all kinds of products and services.
- 26:13SPEAKER_02: But where did I really get the bug for selling?
- 26:16SPEAKER_02: Like what made me want to do this kind of work?
- 26:20SPEAKER_02: Because it seems like every job I've had has been in a sales capacity.
- 26:24SPEAKER_02: And I realized it was when I wanted to sell Girl Scout cookies.
- 26:28SPEAKER_02: Here in the United States, we have that annual Girl Scout cookie campaign, four months of the year, and 200 million boxes are sold.
- 26:37SPEAKER_02: It's just an amazing campaign.
- 26:40SPEAKER_02: But when I was in my sales career, my mother always said to me, I can't always say this.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: I can't believe I didn't want you to sell Girl Scout cookies.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: And look how much you sell.
- 26:52SPEAKER_02: You sell like you love selling.
- 26:54SPEAKER_02: And I said, yeah, you didn't really want me to sell them, did you?
- 26:58SPEAKER_02: She says, no, I didn't think that it was the right thing for me.
- 27:02SPEAKER_02: our daughter to be going door to door back then.
- 27:05SPEAKER_02: It was all door to door and asking people to place the order and collect the money and deliver the cookies.
- 27:11SPEAKER_02: And I just said, well, everybody loves them.
- 27:13SPEAKER_02: So why wouldn't they like them?
- 27:14SPEAKER_02: And we didn't want you to be that door to door image salesman that they didn't like.
- 27:20SPEAKER_02: And they didn't want me to asking money from people like the neighbors.
- 27:25SPEAKER_02: So I wanted to support my troop and be part of the group.
- 27:28SPEAKER_02: And I thought that would be fun to go and ask people for money.
- 27:32SPEAKER_02: I just, it seemed to bother me.
- 27:36SPEAKER_02: So sales was not their thing, but they eventually allowed me to do it.
- 27:41SPEAKER_02: And then I loved doing it.
- 27:44SPEAKER_02: And I thought, this is how I'm going to start my story and just kind of built from there.
- 27:50SPEAKER_02: And to show that we can be confident in ways that we never thought we would be able to.
- 27:55SPEAKER_02: And in circumstances and situations that, especially in sales, it's kind of a lonely world when you're out there on your own, trying to knock on doors and get into have meetings and that sort of thing.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: I did a lot of that, you know, on the street kind of, you know, cold calling and that sort of thing, but I enjoyed it, but I learned a lot of lessons from it.
- 28:19SPEAKER_02: and how to be confident, especially for women who are in that industry, how to handle certain situations that you come up against.
- 28:28SPEAKER_02: And, you know, eventually we become adults and the martini part is more about like, well, what kind of a little prize can I get at the end of my sales journey?
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You know, a little martini wouldn't be bad, but it's kind of a little lighthearted, but also, you know, like a little bit of a memoir, but I also provide sales tips, things that I learned along the way and situations and stories about what you can do in certain situations like networking or presenting a product and how to answer questions from somebody like you had raised.
- 29:06SPEAKER_02: Well, what if somebody doesn't feel like they want to spend that money or it's too expensive?
- 29:11SPEAKER_02: Like, how do we handle those situations?
- 29:13SPEAKER_02: So there's a lot of little, um, tips and stories that are, I think are very helpful, especially for women.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: That's excellent.
- 29:20SPEAKER_03: And so would you say that it's more like for like someone who sells services or like MLM?
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, I've done the multi-level marketing thing with holding products up in front of people and, you know, people's homes.
- 29:36SPEAKER_02: And that was, that was a fun thing for me whenever I was raising my children and needed to keep my sales skills going and make some money.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: and keep people happy with the products they love.
- 29:48SPEAKER_02: So I've done that.
- 29:49SPEAKER_02: I have a whole chapter about home-based businesses.
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: Oh,
- 29:54SPEAKER_01: good.
- 29:54SPEAKER_02: I think a lot of people will get it.
- 29:57SPEAKER_02: And then a lot of corporate selling for bigger companies or smaller privately owned companies.
- 30:06SPEAKER_02: But all in all, as I kind of went from the sales career and decided what I want to do next, I just was meeting people in these women's groups who were entrepreneurs, like who we all are now, and saying, I just don't feel good about asking for the sale or going out and doing that whole sales presentation.
- 30:30SPEAKER_02: It makes me feel uneasy.
- 30:33SPEAKER_02: How can I feel better about that?
- 30:35SPEAKER_02: And that's when I decided we need to build up our confidence and help each other feel better about not sales, but about providing services and solutions to problems people have.
- 30:47SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: That's a great idea.
- 30:49SPEAKER_03: And so now are you coaching women?
- 30:52SPEAKER_03: I am.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: I am.
- 30:54SPEAKER_02: I'm doing coaching one-on-one.
- 30:56SPEAKER_02: I will customize your...
- 30:57SPEAKER_02: We have a little chat.
- 30:59SPEAKER_02: I find out what your needs are, what areas maybe that you're a little stuck on.
- 31:04SPEAKER_02: And we can have a special coaching session together and...
- 31:09SPEAKER_02: That kind of helps you feel like you can move on and be a little bit more confident about, hey, this feeling I have is not unusual.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And I know the ways that I can overcome it.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: So that's where I come in with that.
- 31:23SPEAKER_02: Oh, I love it.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: Speaking to and little podcasts and webinars and things like that.
- 31:30SPEAKER_02: Groups of people want to learn more.
- 31:31SPEAKER_02: And I've done that, too.
- 31:33SPEAKER_02: So an author and a speaker.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: Yes, that's really a fun part of it.
- 31:37SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:38SPEAKER_02: I like being in front of people.
- 31:39SPEAKER_02: I don't have a problem when you're in sales or really that's what you do.
- 31:42SPEAKER_03: Well, this is true.
- 31:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 31:45SPEAKER_03: Sales, you have to have a bit of the gift of the gap.
- 31:48SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: But I think it's not even that you like to talk.
- 31:51SPEAKER_03: I think it's more about you're confident in what you know and what you can share.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: Right.
- 31:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, I could talk to people that are in banking.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: I really know nothing.
- 32:01SPEAKER_02: I'm not in that industry, but if someone's going to speak to me about how to invest my money, I'm really going to listen to them because I know that they're the expert and I may not be the expert in that field.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: So you have to really embrace what you're an expert at and use that as your confidence to help other people.
- 32:21SPEAKER_02: Like you have a confident theme with your business.
- 32:26SPEAKER_02: That's what kind of drove me to want to talk to you because we have similar mission in life.
- 32:33SPEAKER_02: That's right.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 32:34SPEAKER_02: But if you want to talk to me about yoga, forget it.
- 32:38SPEAKER_02: I really don't like it.
- 32:39SPEAKER_02: And I'm not going to tell you how to do it because I'm not an expert in that.
- 32:44SPEAKER_02: But I can tell you I know who may be an expert in that.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: And that's where it all helps when we can all be connectors.
- 32:50SPEAKER_02: And, you know, I may not be the best person to talk to you about this.
- 32:54SPEAKER_02: But I know someone who is the expert in that.
- 32:56SPEAKER_02: It's really good at that.
- 32:57SPEAKER_02: And let me have you speak to them.
- 32:59SPEAKER_02: And then we help each other with our businesses and we fur each other.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: And it's all good.
- 33:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:07SPEAKER_03: And I think as a customer, that's important as well.
- 33:10SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 33:11SPEAKER_03: Jean couldn't help me with this.
- 33:14SPEAKER_03: Like I needed a yoga instructor, but she she could coach me like I'm going to open my own business.
- 33:20SPEAKER_03: She'll be able to help me with getting my product sold.
- 33:23SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 33:24SPEAKER_03: I mean, that's that's kind of how, you know, that networking sort of works.
- 33:28SPEAKER_03: So that's I mean, that's important.
- 33:30SPEAKER_03: Oh, I love that.
- 33:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 33:32SPEAKER_03: So is there anything else you want to share with our listeners about your services, about your your book?
- 33:39SPEAKER_03: or anything,
- 33:41SPEAKER_02: advice?

- 33:50SPEAKER_02: And I also have a free coaching moment that you can receive directly from my website that you can just download.

- 34:33SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 34:34SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 34:35SPEAKER_03: That's perfect.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 34:36SPEAKER_03: Well, thank you so much for joining me today.
- 34:38SPEAKER_03: I really learned a lot of nuggets actually.
- 34:41SPEAKER_03: And I, I mean, I talked with you a couple of times before today.

- 34:48SPEAKER_03: So I know what I can do.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 34:49SPEAKER_03: And I know I can reach out to Jean if I have any more questions.
- 34:54SPEAKER_02: Well, you know, whenever you're in a session with somebody with some information and Sometimes it can be overwhelming and there's a lot of information there, but you take from it what you think is going to be helpful to you.
- 35:06SPEAKER_02: And I think everybody feels that way.
- 35:09SPEAKER_02: Even when you're in a networking situation, you don't have to meet everybody, but there are certain people you're going to remember, or there's information you're going to take back with you that you can follow up with.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: So I'm glad to hear that you've had some nuggets that were helpful for you to use for your business.
- 35:27SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 35:28SPEAKER_02: Thank you so much, Jean.
