- 0:00Ever wondered how to be angry the right way, without damaging your heart or your marriage?
- 0:06Welcome to part three of our podcast weekly series entitled,
- 0:10Being Angry the Right Way.
- 0:12Today, Ray shares his personal journey of understanding biblical anger,
- 0:17recognizing its purpose, and learning how divine guidance can help us express
- 0:21it righteously. Here's Ray.
- 0:25How to be angry in the right way is a common question many ask.
- 0:30We know that anger can affect our health, our relationship, especially with
- 0:36our spouse, and most importantly, our fellowship with God.
- 0:40I have to admit I once had a question myself before I accepted Christ.
- 0:45I observed that even if we weren't consciously acknowledging God's authority
- 0:52or faithfully walking with Him,
- 0:56there's natural awareness of how anger impacts us and our relationship.
- 1:02In seeking to understand and manage this emotion properly, it became clear there
- 1:09is a genuine need for help and ongoing guidance.
- 1:14As we mentioned in our first two blogs, anger is one of the emotions God gifted us.
- 1:22If managed well, it can serve a profound purpose.
- 1:27No one completely escapes anger. Even Jesus Christ displayed His emotions when
- 1:33He saw His Father's house disrespected, As noted in Matthew 21,
- 1:39verse 12, and Mark 11, verse 15.
- 1:44His righteous anger was directed at injustice, wrongdoing, and sinfulness,
- 1:50driven by a desire for justice and restoration of what is right.
- 1:56Many believers wonder if it's possible to experience righteous anger too.
- 2:02While there may be similarities, especially when our love for God is deep,
- 2:09it is essential to remember that we are inherently sinful human beings,
- 2:15a condition inherited from Adam and Eve from the very beginning.
- 2:20It's only through our relationship with Jesus Christ that we can reflect God's righteousness.
- 2:26In a biblical truth, managing anger begins with understanding its root,
- 2:32cause, and guarding ourselves in how we express it, two phases that require divine guidance.
- 2:41In marriage, for example, it can be tempting to react impulsively or express
- 2:48anger without restraint.
- 2:50Falsely believing one openness with our spouse justifies it.
- 2:56But the real anger isn't the emotion itself.
- 3:01It's allowing ourselves to lose our anger in God.
- 3:05When this happens, anger can become playground for Satan.
- 3:10Leading to discord, destruction, and brokenness.
- 3:14Sadly, in marriage, Satan often twists this pain into a cycle of hurt,
- 3:21which can destroy affection and love.
- 3:24Many couples, once happily married, have decided to part ways.
- 3:29Other faces issues like physical abuse, truth, that sadly puts the sanctity
- 3:36of marriage in a vulnerable position.
- 3:40Many have compromised its divine purpose, seeking alternatives that are not pleasing to God.
- 3:47In my own experience, I thought I had survived the challenges of anger.
- 3:51I believe that my secure job and family life signified success in overcoming
- 3:59the distracted power of anger.
- 4:01But I realized I had a long way to go when I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior.
- 4:09As I began learning about God's desire for our hearts, I started intentionally seeking Him,
- 4:16allowing Him to transform me, revealing the damaging clouds covering my broken
- 4:23heart, and experiencing His healing.
- 4:27Of course, differences and objection can emerge between spouses.
- 4:33My wife, Annie, and I are no exception.
- 4:37Often our deep passion for resolving issue can lead to heated responses.
- 4:43Our openness sometimes becomes a platform for anger to surface.
- 4:50But through numerous marriage retreats and sermons, we've learned to build systems
- 4:56that help us navigate anger healthily.
- 5:00These aren't just about suppressing feelings.
- 5:03They are opportunities for greater understanding and deeper connection.
- 5:10We've also committed to not letting anger fester overnight without apology.
- 5:15As Ephesians 4, verse 26 advises, However, we are careful not to sweep issue
- 5:22under the rug, missing chances for growth.
- 5:26We know that every conflict requires intentional discussion.
- 5:32Sometimes we can resolve things immediately through prayers and honest conversation.
- 5:40Other times, we need personal space to process feelings before we are ready
- 5:47to listen and understand each other.
- 5:50Amidst of outbursts of temper and harsh words, I rely on God's grace,
- 5:56grace to humble myself at the foot of Jesus Christ.
- 6:00This grace restore us after falling into the weakness of our flesh and help
- 6:06us relearn how to walk in love.
- 6:10Annie and I lean heavily on prayer and God's word, not to justify our emotion,
- 6:17but to anchor those feeling, especially anger, into Him.
