- 0:24Speaker 2: I'm inclined to believe you are a hater. It is
- 0:28Speaker 2: Shannon Penn on a Thursday. Shannon Penn checking out ESPN Radio.
- 0:33Speaker 2: And look, man, for those who don't know, me and
- 0:35Speaker 2: Shannon now go back about 20 years it really lands
- 0:39Speaker 2: when you start looking on television and seeing that the
- 0:41Speaker 2: carolina hurricanes look like they about to walk into the
- 0:44Speaker 2: stanley cup finals for the first time in 20 years
- 0:47Speaker 2: but anyway me and shannon go back been doing this
- 0:50Speaker 2: a long time shannon's the i don't know if the
- 0:53Speaker 2: biggest knicks fan i know is appropriate because knicks fans
- 0:56Speaker 2: get really big but i will say this i have
- 0:58Speaker 2: always found you to be the most reasonable knicks fan
- 1:01Speaker 2: that i.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Have no Appreciate that.
- 1:03Speaker 3: It's funny.
- 1:04Speaker 1: I was talking with somebody about this yesterday.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I think for most Knicks fans and people who know
- 1:09Speaker 3: Knicks fans, their Knicks fan that they know is the
- 1:11Speaker 3: biggest Knicks fan that they know.
- 1:13Speaker 1: So I'll take that as a compliment.
- 1:14Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. It could be anybody, man. Like once
- 1:17Speaker 2: it gets going, y'all really be there. But I've never
- 1:20Speaker 2: found you, however, to be the Knicks fan that all
- 1:23Speaker 2: they take is a little bit and all of a
- 1:24Speaker 2: sudden you putting them in the finals. You know what
- 1:26Speaker 2: I'm saying? Like you've not been that Knicks fan. And
- 1:29Speaker 2: while I've known you for these 20 years, The Giants
- 1:33Speaker 2: snuck a couple of championships in the Super Bowl. The
- 1:38Speaker 2: Yankees got one World Series. But otherwise, you have had
- 1:43Speaker 2: misery inflicted upon you as a New York sports fan
- 1:48Speaker 2: in general. And as a Knicks fan in particular, there's
- 1:51Speaker 2: been very little cause for optimism in the time that
- 1:54Speaker 2: I've known you, but you have played that damn go
- 1:56Speaker 2: New York, go New York, go song, which the most
- 1:59Speaker 2: 90 sounding thing that has ever existed is that song.
- 2:02Speaker 2: I did not realize when you used to play it
- 2:05Speaker 2: on our show that I would get here and they
- 2:08Speaker 2: was playing it at the building. Like I didn't know
- 2:11Speaker 2: that y'all had adopted this as y'all's classic forever, but
- 2:14Speaker 2: I guess those were the good old days for y'all. Right.
- 2:17Speaker 3: I guess since it's all about nostalgia and 90s nostalgia,
- 2:20Speaker 3: there's no song that sounds as 90s and as cheesy
- 2:24Speaker 3: as that Knicks Go New York song.
- 2:27Speaker 1: So hey, why not? Adopt it.
- 2:28Speaker 3: Why?
- 2:30Speaker 1: Weaponize it. Instead of it being corny, that's our thing.
- 2:34Speaker 2: No, y'all ain't even bothered to try to get a
- 2:36Speaker 2: new one. And that's because nothing ever felt better. Although
- 2:39Speaker 2: that sounds too early for 94. That sounds like a
- 2:42Speaker 2: 90 or 91 sort of situation. You know what I'm saying?
- 2:47Speaker 2: But that's y'all's jam. That's y'all's time. And now I've
- 2:50Speaker 2: said this.
- 2:52Speaker 4: They've played literally one of the best months of basketball
- 2:55Speaker 4: in the history of the NBA.
- 2:57Speaker 2: It is the craziest thing I've ever seen.
- 3:00Speaker 1: It was funny.
- 3:01Speaker 3: After the Knicks game four sweep of Cleveland, so I
- 3:05Speaker 3: was watching the game and my wife started recording me,
- 3:07Speaker 3: of course, because she wanted to see what my reaction
- 3:08Speaker 3: would be after they won. And she was kind of
- 3:11Speaker 3: disappointed with how subdued I was. And she was like,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I thought you would be more emotional, more happy. And
- 3:16Speaker 3: I was just like, I'm in shock. I really can't
- 3:20Speaker 3: believe it. Because as you know, Nick's fandom is built
- 3:24Speaker 3: on trauma and and all the bad things that happened.
- 3:26Speaker 3: So I was like, I was still waiting. Like I was,
- 3:29Speaker 3: so when they swept, when they swept Cleveland, like I'm
- 3:32Speaker 3: still in disbelief. Like I'm still, here we are almost
- 3:35Speaker 3: a week later. Like I'm still in disbelief. Like, all right,
- 3:38Speaker 3: when's the rug gonna get pulled out? Like when is
- 3:40Speaker 3: somebody gonna get, when is OG's hamstring gonna go? Like
- 3:42Speaker 3: when is something bad gonna happen? When are they gonna
- 3:44Speaker 3: be the first team in NBA history to blow a
- 3:47Speaker 3: 3-0 series lead? Like I was still waiting for that
- 3:49Speaker 3: to happen and it never did.
- 3:50Speaker 1: So like even these many days later, I'm still in shock. Like,
- 3:53Speaker 1: hold on.
- 3:54Speaker 3: To quote John Starks, did this dude really did this?
- 3:57Speaker 3: I'm still like, hold on, did this really happen?
- 3:59Speaker 1: I'm still in shock.
- 4:00Speaker 2: I think one of the biggest misunderstandings people have about
- 4:04Speaker 2: Knicks fans, and again, it's because, and Shannon, you left
- 4:08Speaker 2: New York young enough that you got over this, but
- 4:10Speaker 2: y'all don't send y'all, when y'all send people out, man,
- 4:12Speaker 2: they just talk a little bit too much about being
- 4:14Speaker 2: from New York and gotta hype that shit up too
- 4:15Speaker 2: much that they get to lie, right? I think the
- 4:18Speaker 2: greatest misunderstanding about Knicks fans is that Knicks fans don't
- 4:21Speaker 2: understand what the Knicks are or are not.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Right.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Like like I think Knicks fans and I've realized that
- 4:26Speaker 2: once I got here, they have not been pretending like
- 4:29Speaker 2: being like rooting for the Knicks is like rooting for
- 4:31Speaker 2: the Yankees. There is no misunderstanding about this. They understand
- 4:35Speaker 2: that they have been consistently let down. The point I
- 4:38Speaker 2: made for the longest when the Rangers won the Stanley
- 4:40Speaker 2: Cup in 1994, it had been 54 years in that year.
- 4:43Speaker 2: 1940 was plastered everywhere. It's been 53 for these guys, right?
- 4:51Speaker 2: Like with the Rangers, it was called a curse. With
- 4:53Speaker 2: the Knicks, it's just what y'all were. Like y'all know
- 4:56Speaker 2: that this is what it is. People so happy walking
- 4:59Speaker 2: around here in part because, you know, y'all got a
- 5:02Speaker 2: team that, you know, some fairly likable guys.
- 5:05Speaker 3: Right, not to mention too, it's like the difference between
- 5:07Speaker 3: the Yankees and the Knicks, because the Yankees has had
- 5:10Speaker 3: so much success, like there's an arrogance that Yankee fans have. Yeah.
- 5:13Speaker 1: That the Knicks fans haven't been afforded.
- 5:15Speaker 3: And of course, I know it's Knicks fans, Yankee fans,
- 5:17Speaker 3: but as a Knicks fan, you haven't been afforded that
- 5:20Speaker 3: level of arrogance. So it's like, so yeah, you have
- 5:23Speaker 3: this false hope and like, oh, maybe this person will
- 5:26Speaker 3: be the savior or this executive or this coach or
- 5:28Speaker 3: this superstar or this person because that's all you had.
- 5:31Speaker 3: But because you didn't have anything that was tangible on
- 5:33Speaker 3: the court, So it was always hope.
- 5:35Speaker 1: It was always hope.
- 5:36Speaker 3: And then it's interesting that the guy who actually brought
- 5:40Speaker 3: you hope was somebody who, when they brought Brunson in,
- 5:43Speaker 3: it wasn't looked at as the savior.
- 5:44Speaker 1: It was just looked at as another guy.
- 5:46Speaker 3: And it turns out that the other guy became that
- 5:49Speaker 3: quote-unquote savior up until this point.
- 5:53Speaker 2: Yo, Brunson kind of like, what if John Starks was
- 5:55Speaker 2: really good? Right. Like, not exactly, right? It's not a
- 5:59Speaker 2: one-to-one comparison here.
- 6:02Speaker 3: But.
- 6:03Speaker 2: New York like a gritty underdog situation, right? Brunson, despite
- 6:07Speaker 2: his dad being a former player, despite his dad being
- 6:11Speaker 2: the coach, that shit is still weird. Like despite those things,
- 6:14Speaker 2: he still has that kind of like up from the
- 6:17Speaker 2: bottom sort of situation. But I ask you this, because
- 6:20Speaker 2: this dawned on me yesterday when I was thinking about
- 6:22Speaker 2: kind of the personality of this team. The NBA now
- 6:27Speaker 2: has a lot more good kids in it, right? Like,
- 6:31Speaker 2: a lot more nice, respectful young men might say, yes, ma'am, no, ma'am,
- 6:36Speaker 2: but maybe not, because these motherfuckers these days don't know,
- 6:38Speaker 2: they ain't been taught right. But, you know, they have
- 6:40Speaker 2: guys that seem like they might, you know, come kick
- 6:42Speaker 2: it that way. You could take Karl-Anthony Towns to meet
- 6:45Speaker 2: your Abuela, right? Like, you could do all this. Do
- 6:49Speaker 2: you prefer having this team, and by the way, everybody
- 6:51Speaker 2: seems to like each other, their vibes are good, they
- 6:54Speaker 2: seem to joke a lot on the podcast.
- 6:56Speaker 4: Or, or.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Was it more fun when you had the team that
- 7:00Speaker 2: nobody wanted to fight?
- 7:03Speaker 3: See, that's the thing. I think the beauty of it
- 7:06Speaker 3: is because I got to experience both. So it's like,
- 7:09Speaker 3: me personally, like, absolutely, I would prefer a team that
- 7:12Speaker 3: everybody wants to fight.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Like, come on.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Like, who wouldn't want to have a bully?
- 7:17Speaker 3: But at the same time, I got to experience that
- 7:19Speaker 3: with those 90s teams, and they only took a spot
- 7:21Speaker 3: so far. So, like, it's weird. Like, it's weird.
- 7:23Speaker 2: I mean, hold on, hold on. They took you as
- 7:25Speaker 2: far as these cats down.
- 7:26Speaker 1: So far, right.
- 7:27Speaker 3: But the weird thing about it now is that, like,
- 7:30Speaker 3: to have a team like the Knicks, that are a
- 7:31Speaker 3: bunch of nice guys that people really don't dislike.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Like, it's weird.
- 7:35Speaker 3: Like, Knicks teams over the past, like, they've had a
- 7:37Speaker 3: player or style of play or whatever it is that
- 7:40Speaker 3: people can say, hey, I don't like this Knicks team
- 7:42Speaker 3: because of X.
- 7:43Speaker 1: I don't like this Knicks team.
- 7:44Speaker 3: Because they try to be bullies or, or mellow ISO ball,
- 7:47Speaker 3: whatever the case may be over the course of the year.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Now, like they really.
- 7:50Speaker 3: Haven't given you a reason to dislike them because it's
- 7:53Speaker 3: a bunch of these nice guys. It's because of the
- 7:55Speaker 3: Jalen Brunson's and the McHale bridges and the OG and
- 7:58Speaker 3: Carl Anthony towns and Josh Hart being an Eagle scout.
- 8:01Speaker 3: It's like a bunch of these dudes that are like
- 8:03Speaker 3: nice guys that people really can't latch on to a
- 8:05Speaker 3: reason outside of just Nick fans find a reason to
- 8:08Speaker 3: hate or dislike this team.
- 8:10Speaker 2: But I hadn't thought about this, right? Not just, um,
- 8:15Speaker 2: The Pat Riley era of Knicks, right? Look, Pat Riley
- 8:19Speaker 2: era of Knicks. I don't know if it ain't never
- 8:22Speaker 2: going to be like this again in the NBA. First
- 8:24Speaker 2: of all, it was the era where guys didn't necessarily
- 8:28Speaker 2: have to be good at basketball to be good basketball players.
- 8:32Speaker 2: I understand that that doesn't make sense to a lot
- 8:34Speaker 2: of people. I have long said I kind of like
- 8:36Speaker 2: the NBA a little better when the guys weren't quite
- 8:38Speaker 2: as good because they had to figure it out one
- 8:40Speaker 2: way or another.
- 8:41Speaker 4: But.
- 8:42Speaker 2: Them teams had like John Starks, who was really just
- 8:45Speaker 2: kind of in spirit like the other guys, but Charles Oakley,
- 8:50Speaker 2: Anthony Mason, Xavier McDaniel. Can't forget that that was there
- 8:55Speaker 2: for a while. Then you get to later and you
- 8:57Speaker 2: start picking up guys like Sprewell, right? sneaky in there,
- 9:01Speaker 2: Hartford's own Marcus Camby, right? Who did he try to
- 9:05Speaker 2: take out? Was it Danny Ferry that he tried to
- 9:07Speaker 2: take out that time?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Yeah, it was Danny Ferry, yeah. He swung on Danny Ferry, yeah.
- 9:10Speaker 2: But, like, then even if you continue on into the
- 9:13Speaker 2: 2000s and get to, like, not so much the same
- 9:16Speaker 2: kind of edge on them, but the vibes they gave
- 9:18Speaker 2: other people, like your Mello, Iman, Shumpert, J.R. Smith, that
- 9:23Speaker 2: whole run of dudes.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Nick's tape, the Nick's tape run, right?
- 9:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:27Speaker 2: There's a word I might use if I was just
- 9:29Speaker 2: talking to you and Ryan wasn't sitting over there. You
- 9:31Speaker 2: know what I mean? But there's been.
- 9:35Speaker 3: An aesthetic.
- 9:36Speaker 1: Right.
- 9:36Speaker 2: A mad aesthetic that has run through for this franchise
- 9:42Speaker 2: for nearly 30 years. Now, it's the cul-de-sac boys.
- 9:48Speaker 1: And it's totally different. It's like....
- 9:52Speaker 3: They're not really because of their background and, private schools
- 9:56Speaker 3: and the whole thing. They don't kick it like a
- 9:59Speaker 3: lot of the out-the-mud type situation. Brunson in his height, underdog,
- 10:06Speaker 3: or whatever. But they didn't really grow up in that
- 10:09Speaker 3: same way. Their path, like you said, their paths to
- 10:12Speaker 3: the NBA weren't the same as a John Starks or
- 10:15Speaker 3: Anthony Mason or even a Charles Oakley coming from a
- 10:18Speaker 3: Virginia Union. It's a little different, but it's interesting how,
- 10:23Speaker 3: with that being said, the city has still been able
- 10:25Speaker 3: to embrace this team, though.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Because they still play like that, though, right? So, like, Brunson,
- 10:29Speaker 2: we could go on and on about that. But, like,
- 10:31Speaker 2: Josh Hart having that run where he was playing power forward.
- 10:35Speaker 2: at his size, right? Towns, hey man, Towns didn't raise
- 10:40Speaker 2: his level of game up, man. I'm proud of myself.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Can I just say this right now? Proud of myself,
- 10:45Speaker 2: I tell you, because you can vouch for this because
- 10:47Speaker 2: we talk about the Knicks periodically. I didn't try to
- 10:51Speaker 2: hold on to the old Towns any longer than necessary.
- 10:55Speaker 2: Once it became clear that something was different, I was like, oh, okay,
- 10:58Speaker 2: something is different. And now the something is different is,
- 11:02Speaker 2: I felt like the only way they could win is
- 11:03Speaker 2: if he was their best player. And he has been
- 11:05Speaker 2: their best player. And they're running it through him, and
- 11:07Speaker 2: then they turn into, like, the juggernaut.
- 11:09Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 11:10Speaker 1: Yeah. And I'll go back. I'll raise my hand.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I had a lot of questions about the Towns acquisition
- 11:16Speaker 3: when they first brought him in. I wasn't sure how
- 11:19Speaker 3: it was going to work with him in the city
- 11:21Speaker 3: because we know, like, New York fans are tough.
- 11:23Speaker 1: And Towns is a nice guy.
- 11:25Speaker 3: And so I didn't know how he was going to
- 11:26Speaker 3: come back, especially when he would go through his periods
- 11:30Speaker 3: of not playing well. And then you saw that early
- 11:33Speaker 3: in the season, too, when Mike Brown came along and
- 11:36Speaker 3: brought in the new offense, and Towns was essentially trying
- 11:39Speaker 3: to find himself or find his place in this offense.
- 11:42Speaker 3: And then once now they've unlocked this, the term that's
- 11:46Speaker 3: been used is Towns being the hub. Now that they've
- 11:48Speaker 3: unlocked this, it's been really interesting to watch, too. And
- 11:52Speaker 3: about that, too, I think more, and I'm going all
- 11:55Speaker 3: over the place, excuse me, but more with the With
- 11:58Speaker 3: the running offense through Towns, I think that's something that
- 12:00Speaker 3: Brown wanted to do the entire time.
- 12:02Speaker 1: He did.
- 12:03Speaker 3: But I think more than getting a buy-in from Towns,
- 12:05Speaker 3: it was really getting a buy-in from Brunson. Yeah. Because
- 12:07Speaker 3: you got Brunson being ball-dominant, and it's like Brown, I
- 12:10Speaker 3: don't think, wanted to come in right away and say, hey, Jalen,
- 12:14Speaker 3: we're taking the ball out your hand. We're running it
- 12:15Speaker 3: through Towns. That wouldn't have went over as well. So
- 12:18Speaker 3: I think he tried to incorporate it slowly, maybe got
- 12:20Speaker 3: some pushback early, kind of left it on the table
- 12:23Speaker 3: there for most of midseason. And it was like, all right,
- 12:25Speaker 3: now that we're in the playoffs, it's time to ramp
- 12:27Speaker 3: this up and give teams a look that they haven't
- 12:30Speaker 3: really seen from us this season.
- 12:31Speaker 1: I think that's what happened, especially in game. What is
- 12:34Speaker 1: that game? against the Atlanta Hawks.
- 12:36Speaker 3: I think it was like, all right, DEFCON won. It's
- 12:38Speaker 3: time to press the button. We tried it your way.
- 12:41Speaker 1: Now we got to do it my way.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Well, I think the other thing, too, that is interesting
- 12:44Speaker 2: is that running it through Towns has been, ironically, meant
- 12:47Speaker 2: fewer shots for Towns and fewer shots for Brunson. Like,
- 12:53Speaker 2: it's everybody getting it right, right? And so they there, and.
- 12:58Speaker 2: Towns has also stopped playing like the dumbest man in
- 13:01Speaker 2: the NBA. I don't know what happened. I don't know
- 13:03Speaker 2: what part of it, because he was still playing like
- 13:06Speaker 2: a moron for much of his tenure. I think it
- 13:10Speaker 2: also helped him in New York, and I had really
- 13:13Speaker 2: underrated how important this was. Not so much how important
- 13:16Speaker 2: it was that he beat Karl-Anthony Towns, but how important
- 13:19Speaker 2: it was that he not beat Julius Ramos.
- 13:23Speaker 3: That part.
- 13:24Speaker 2: Just don't be Julius Randle. Because Carl do all that
- 13:28Speaker 2: weird stuff and change all his voices and everything else.
- 13:31Speaker 2: But he'll be out there crying.
- 13:33Speaker 3: Right. I mean, you'll still get the, that's a foul
- 13:35Speaker 3: from him as he's driving before even his shot attempt. But,
- 13:39Speaker 3: you know, a lot of the layups be going in.
- 13:41Speaker 3: So it's like, all right, I'm going to roll with it.
- 13:43Speaker 3: You know, but like you said.
- 13:44Speaker 1: Not being Julius Randle was key too.
- 13:46Speaker 3: Like we've heard all the reports about his moodiness with
- 13:49Speaker 3: New York, with Minnesota.
- 13:50Speaker 1: It's like not being, like not being that.
- 13:52Speaker 3: And, you know, sometimes- He would sulk and roll his eyes,
- 13:55Speaker 3: speaking of Towns, when he wasn't involved and you had
- 13:57Speaker 3: the quotes of him, you know, I'm still trying to
- 14:00Speaker 3: figure it out. Essentially, him saying, I'm still trying to
- 14:02Speaker 3: figure it out, was I'm just waiting for Mike Brown
- 14:04Speaker 3: to put the ball in my hands. And apparently, I
- 14:07Speaker 3: don't know if it was a kumbaya or some come
- 14:09Speaker 3: to Jesus moment between Towns and Brunson, But at some point,
- 14:12Speaker 3: they was like, all right, look, in order for us
- 14:14Speaker 3: to win, we're going to have.
- 14:15Speaker 1: To do this.
- 14:16Speaker 3: And if you want to get to where we think
- 14:19Speaker 3: we can get to, it can't just be ISO Brunson.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And so far, that's what they've been able to do.
- 14:24Speaker 2: Yeah, so here's the thing I don't think I've talked
- 14:26Speaker 2: about on here. And I'm curious what you think about this,
- 14:29Speaker 2: given this is your squad. But I kind of feel
- 14:35Speaker 2: like we're not giving Jim Dolan enough credit for what's
- 14:41Speaker 2: going on. on here.
- 14:43Speaker 3: So, so, so bro, we got to give Jim, we
- 14:45Speaker 3: got to give, give Jim Dolan credit for not getting
- 14:47Speaker 3: in the way.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Is that what we do?
- 14:49Speaker 3: We got to, we got to give Jim Dolan the,
- 14:51Speaker 3: I take care of my kids credit.
- 14:53Speaker 1: Hold on. Like we got to give him that kind
- 14:56Speaker 1: of credit.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I have seen people make the point that the best
- 14:59Speaker 2: thing to ever happen to the Knicks was the sphere.
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 15:02Speaker 2: That the argument is that since the sphere opened in
- 15:03Speaker 2: Vegas and he has dedicated his attention to the sphere,
- 15:06Speaker 2: that that's been better for the team.
- 15:07Speaker 3: Right. Right.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Quiet as cat. He's working on a second spear in D.C. too.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Oh, I think that's a bad idea. That may stress
- 15:14Speaker 2: him out a little bit. But this is where I
- 15:17Speaker 2: do think he gets some credit. I can't speak for you.
- 15:21Speaker 2: I thought that it was a bit unrealistic to fire
- 15:25Speaker 2: Thibodeau last year after they made the conference finals with
- 15:27Speaker 2: a team that I thought was a conference final sort
- 15:30Speaker 2: of team. Now this year, everything was different in terms
- 15:33Speaker 2: of what was going on with Tatum being hurt and
- 15:35Speaker 2: everything else. There was no reason for them not to
- 15:38Speaker 2: be able to make it to the NBA Finals, and
- 15:40Speaker 2: they have made it. But Golden looked at the team
- 15:44Speaker 2: and said, this is a team that should have gone
- 15:45Speaker 2: to the NBA Finals, and we didn't. And so now
- 15:48Speaker 2: we're going to hire a coach to get us in
- 15:49Speaker 2: the NBA Finals. And he fired the coach, and he
- 15:52Speaker 2: hired a coach, and they made it to the NBA Finals. Like,
- 15:55Speaker 2: that was not a move that he had to make.
- 15:57Speaker 2: And he made the decision, and it has turned out
- 16:00Speaker 2: to be the right one. This is the front office
- 16:03Speaker 2: that he has put in place. Even if you say
- 16:05Speaker 2: that it's him getting out of the way, he decided
- 16:07Speaker 2: to go with Leon Rose, right? He decided to go
- 16:09Speaker 2: with William Wesley. They have put this, they put this
- 16:12Speaker 2: thing together and it's not, it's not like they put
- 16:14Speaker 2: it together where they won the ping pong lottery and
- 16:17Speaker 2: they just had guys that all you had to do
- 16:18Speaker 2: is figure out what to do around them. Like they
- 16:20Speaker 2: had to put, they had to figure out who to
- 16:21Speaker 2: set up and put together. They made the move to
- 16:24Speaker 2: get Carl Anthony tiles, right? Which I wouldn't have made.
- 16:27Speaker 5: They did that. They did all the things now. I mean,
- 16:30Speaker 5: now they're in the NBA finals. And to answer that point,
- 16:34Speaker 5: it's been a level. I think the big word has
- 16:35Speaker 5: been disciplined as well. It's been disciplined from Dolan not
- 16:39Speaker 5: getting in the way. It's been disciplined from Leon Rose
- 16:42Speaker 5: not to bite. You even go back and we just saw,
- 16:45Speaker 5: even after signing Jalen Brunson, the Knicks had been in
- 16:48Speaker 5: talks with still trying to acquire Donovan Mitchell at that
- 16:50Speaker 5: time from Utah. And then Danny Ainge was asking for,
- 16:54Speaker 5: of course, Danny Ainge's multiple draft, multiple first round picks,
- 16:57Speaker 5: RJ Barrett, Mitchell.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Robinson, what have you. And Leon, Leon Rose was like, nah,
- 17:01Speaker 3: I'm good. Like think about how disastrous that possibly would
- 17:04Speaker 3: have been if you would have had two ball dominant
- 17:07Speaker 3: six to a shorter guards in your backcourt. Like, so, so,
- 17:10Speaker 3: so to have that, that discipline from, from Rose or
- 17:14Speaker 3: to have that discipline from him, like you said, to
- 17:16Speaker 3: make the Carl Anthony towns move or, or to say,
- 17:21Speaker 3: all right, Tibbs took.
- 17:22Speaker 1: Us as long as far as he could.
- 17:23Speaker 3: We got to change some things on the offense because
- 17:25Speaker 3: we're skilled enough and have the personnel already here without
- 17:28Speaker 3: really bringing in another player. Like, yeah, Jordan Clarkson on
- 17:31Speaker 3: the bench. Outside of us, this is the same team
- 17:33Speaker 3: that they had last year. So to identify to say,
- 17:35Speaker 3: all right, we have the talent. We just need more
- 17:39Speaker 3: from the talent that we have already on this roster.
- 17:41Speaker 3: And to be able to make that move from Mike Brown,
- 17:42Speaker 3: you got to give Leon Rose his credit there.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Hey, speaking of Mitchell Robinson, should he be allowed to
- 17:49Speaker 2: wear number 23? Like, I don't think, I was talking
- 17:53Speaker 2: the other day about how I think Landry Shabbat should
- 17:55Speaker 2: be allowed to wear number 44. Like, I think that
- 17:57Speaker 2: there's a baseline level of goods you gotta be to
- 17:59Speaker 2: wear number 44, no matter what team it is. And
- 18:01Speaker 2: I just don't think, like, unless you wore it in
- 18:03Speaker 2: college and maybe you wore it in college, I don't know.
- 18:04Speaker 2: But like John Wallace, he was grandfathered into 44. I
- 18:08Speaker 2: get it. It was even the same colors. You understand
- 18:10Speaker 2: what I'm saying? And then somebody in the comments on
- 18:13Speaker 2: YouTube made the point, well, what about Mitchell Robinson wearing 23?
- 18:16Speaker 2: And I was like, damn, I honestly can't believe they
- 18:20Speaker 2: allowed that to happen. You got to at least be
- 18:21Speaker 2: able to dribble a shoe in order to be number 23.
- 18:26Speaker 3: But to Mitch's credit now, I mean, he's the longest
- 18:29Speaker 3: tenured player. Longest tenure in New York Knicks. Like how
- 18:33Speaker 3: crazy is that? He and Kevin Knox were drafted the
- 18:35Speaker 3: same year. Like just to put that in perspective. He
- 18:39Speaker 3: has the longest tenure in New York Knicks.
- 18:41Speaker 2: When's the last time you thought of Kevin Knox? And
- 18:44Speaker 2: number two, imagine if you had told Kevin Knox in the, wow,
- 18:48Speaker 2: how old do you think Kevin Knox is?
- 18:50Speaker 1: 27? He is all of 26. Oh my gosh.
- 18:57Speaker 3: Yes.
- 18:57Speaker 1: And that's a lifetime ago.
- 18:58Speaker 3: Yeah. Right. Right.
- 18:59Speaker 4: Right.
- 18:59Speaker 2: So this is eight years ago. Can you imagine eight
- 19:02Speaker 2: years ago telling Kevin Knox that he would be playing
- 19:05Speaker 2: for the Windy City Bulls and Mitchell Robinson would be
- 19:09Speaker 2: in the NBA finals?
- 19:10Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 19:10Speaker 3: And Kevin Knox's name has come up recently because all
- 19:13Speaker 3: the Knicks fans now, everybody online is like, hey, I've
- 19:16Speaker 3: been I've been out.
- 19:17Speaker 1: We've been out the mud. We've been down bad so long.
- 19:19Speaker 3: I was going to those games when I used to
- 19:21Speaker 3: have to watch X player, when I used to have
- 19:23Speaker 3: to watch Kevin Knox, or if I used to watch
- 19:25Speaker 3: Langston Galloway, no disrespect. Well, I was going to these
- 19:27Speaker 3: games and we had Emmanuel Moutier or whatever the case
- 19:30Speaker 3: might be.
- 19:30Speaker 2: Frank Milakina.
- 19:31Speaker 1: Frank Milakina. You know, I was out here seeing Andreas Bartignani.
- 19:35Speaker 3: He's trying to jump from the free throw line. Like it's,
- 19:37Speaker 3: it's all of those examples. And I think that like
- 19:39Speaker 3: I mentioned before, like that's, part of the Knicks fandom
- 19:42Speaker 3: is built on that trauma. So it's like, all right, hey,
- 19:45Speaker 3: we drafted this player, and then the guy right after
- 19:47Speaker 3: him becomes, you know, whomever, Donald Mitchell.
- 19:50Speaker 2: Or the thing the thing with y'all is is y'all
- 19:52Speaker 2: some optimists right like that's the other part i think
- 19:54Speaker 2: that people miss it's less that you guys get are
- 19:57Speaker 2: arrogant than you guys are optimists right and so you
- 19:59Speaker 2: bought hard on frank nila kina right you bought in
- 20:02Speaker 2: hard on um on the rooster Danilo Gallinari we could
- 20:08Speaker 2: go through.
- 20:09Speaker 3: Like Phil Jackson you know in the triangle and hey
- 20:14Speaker 3: if Steve Kerr had this success in Golden State well
- 20:17Speaker 3: maybe Dirk Fisher in the triangle can do the same
- 20:19Speaker 3: or Kurt Rambis or maybe Jeff Hornacek or.
- 20:23Speaker 2: I forgot about Jeff Hornacek or David Fisdale or you
- 20:28Speaker 2: name it do you know the next three picks after
- 20:32Speaker 2: Kevin Knox off the top of your head or the
- 20:34Speaker 2: next two See.
- 20:36Speaker 3: I always mix this up because it was the Nilekina
- 20:39Speaker 3: and the Knox where it was like guys like SG.
- 20:43Speaker 1: Donovan Mitchell was in one of those, right?
- 20:45Speaker 2: Okay, so Donovan Mitchell is in the year before. It
- 20:48Speaker 2: was Mikael Bridges, who eventually found his way home, and
- 20:51Speaker 2: Shea Gildas Alexander were the next two picks after Kevin Knox.
- 20:54Speaker 2: I almost took it to three.
- 20:56Speaker 3: Don't even say that. Say that slower so the people
- 20:58Speaker 3: can hear you. Who were the next two picks after
- 21:02Speaker 3: Kevin Knox?
- 21:03Speaker 2: Mikael Bridges and Shea Gildas Alexander. I almost took it
- 21:07Speaker 2: to three, but that would have got us into the
- 21:08Speaker 2: tricky case of Miles Bridges, and I didn't want to
- 21:10Speaker 2: do that. Let me see. Donovan Mitchell was in 2017. Yes,
- 21:17Speaker 2: that's when the Knicks took Frank Nilekina, but to be fair,
- 21:20Speaker 2: it was a while before you got to the better players.
- 21:22Speaker 2: It went from Frank Nilekina to Dennis Smith Jr. to
- 21:26Speaker 2: Zach Collins to Malik Monk to Luke Kennard, then to
- 21:29Speaker 2: Donovan Mitchell, and then to Bam Adebayo.
- 21:31Speaker 3: And you mentioned Dennis Smith Jr., who we then traded
- 21:34Speaker 3: for As part of the Porzingis trade.
- 21:36Speaker 1: So we got him too. He did.
- 21:38Speaker 2: He eventually found his way home.
- 21:40Speaker 1: See?
- 21:42Speaker 3: We got him.
- 21:44Speaker 2: I don't know. The NBA contributes itself so much better
- 21:47Speaker 2: than any other sport to random games of name that dude. Right.
- 21:52Speaker 2: Just some dude that and it ain't even necessarily a
- 21:54Speaker 2: guy that played there a long time. It's not necessarily
- 21:56Speaker 2: a guy that was a draft bus. It's just sometimes
- 21:59Speaker 2: for whatever reason, that dude was on your team.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Right.
- 22:03Speaker 2: And you have some association with something that that dude
- 22:07Speaker 2: did when he was on your team. And you just
- 22:10Speaker 2: won't forget it. Who's that dude? It could be anybody.
- 22:14Speaker 1: Right, exactly.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Like for Nick Fed, you say Marty Collins and you're like,
- 22:17Speaker 3: Marty Collins? Oh, that's the dude that was in the
- 22:19Speaker 3: Mellow fight. There we go.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Oh my God.
- 22:23Speaker 3: Nate Robinson and Marty Collins and Mellow and he's still
- 22:27Speaker 3: in Denver.
- 22:27Speaker 1: You go Marty Collins. Marty Collins from Temple? Yeah, the
- 22:29Speaker 1: dude who was in the Mellow fight.
- 22:31Speaker 3: There you go.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Once a Nick, always a Nick.
- 22:34Speaker 2: That fight, that wasn't a fight, but was such a
- 22:36Speaker 2: big deal because it came close to after the palace.
- 22:40Speaker 2: And so it was treated with a different situation. where
- 22:44Speaker 2: Melo did his, well, we know what Mitch Blood Green
- 22:48Speaker 2: would have said that Melo did.
- 22:52Speaker 1: Good reference.
- 22:53Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:55Speaker 3: Look, that was, hey, what if 6'8, 200 and some odd,
- 23:00Speaker 3: power forward was playing safety in the NFL?
- 23:03Speaker 1: That's right.
- 23:04Speaker 2: That's right. He hit him, and then... Hashtag IYK. YK.
- 23:12Speaker 1: Harlem Zone. Bitch.
- 23:14Speaker 2: Bitch. Bitch. Like, the idea that in the 80s, things
- 23:17Speaker 2: happened like the heavyweight champion and another boxer would get
- 23:22Speaker 2: into a fight outside of Dapper Dan's.
- 23:24Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 23:25Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. Like, that's a whole different world of athletics. That's
- 23:28Speaker 2: a whole different New York. It's a whole different everything
- 23:32Speaker 2: just to the idea that, yeah, these cats were just
- 23:33Speaker 2: getting into fights on the street.
- 23:36Speaker 3: And to, like, that's like Tyson was making big money
- 23:40Speaker 3: then too. Like we say, like it wasn't just like
- 23:43Speaker 3: regular dude, this is the heavyweight champion of the world
- 23:45Speaker 3: making huge money, the biggest draw and pay-per-view at the
- 23:49Speaker 3: time getting into fist fight outside.
- 23:51Speaker 1: Of a Dapper Dan's in Harlow. How crazy is that?
- 23:55Speaker 1: What if I told you?
- 23:56Speaker 2: Like that's, that's its own thing. Well also having to explain,
- 23:59Speaker 2: like fully explain the Dapper Dan situation.
- 24:02Speaker 1: Right.
- 24:02Speaker 2: Because on one hand, I understand people's argument that, you know,
- 24:07Speaker 2: it's the same that these brands did not want us
- 24:10Speaker 2: in their clothes. They felt like we were bringing out
- 24:11Speaker 2: a property value, so forth and so on. On the
- 24:14Speaker 2: other hand. what flagrant trademark infringement this was. It was blatant.
- 24:22Speaker 3: It was blatant. It was so blatant.
- 24:25Speaker 2: People act like the folks was wrong.
- 24:28Speaker 3: What are you talking about?
- 24:33Speaker 4: It was so preposterous. I don't care how fly it was.
- 24:38Speaker 4: You figured out something else. It's a shame these people
- 24:41Speaker 4: wouldn't give you a job. But no, you can't do that.
- 24:44Speaker 3: No, no, you're straight ripping off their patterns and slapping
- 24:48Speaker 3: it on a jacket.
- 24:49Speaker 2: Like, what are we doing? It's like, there's got to
- 24:52Speaker 2: be a way that we can be happy for him
- 24:53Speaker 2: and not lie about it. Right? There's got to be.
- 24:57Speaker 2: But coming up next, I got to tell you about,
- 25:00Speaker 2: it looked like we might have a new celebrity coming
- 25:02Speaker 2: to the Knicks games in the NBA Finals. I don't
- 25:04Speaker 2: know if Shannon heard about this, but we talked about
- 25:06Speaker 2: it coming up next. Oh, he's heard. He's heard. You

- 26:13Speaker 2: Shannon Pidd. Check out ESPN Radio. Your man say that
- 26:21Speaker 2: he got invited by Jim Dolan to come to the
- 26:24Speaker 2: NBA Finals. Trump say he gonna come to the game.
- 26:27Speaker 3: All right, look, I know he and Dolan are boys
- 26:29Speaker 3: and I get it. Like Trump used to be at
- 26:32Speaker 3: Nick games in the 80s and 90s or what have you.
- 26:34Speaker 3: But my man ain't been to a game in like
- 26:36Speaker 3: 20 some odd years. So now you hopping back on, right? Like,
- 26:40Speaker 3: come on. Like you ain't been to, we ain't. Look,
- 26:43Speaker 3: these games on TV, we ain't seen you there. Like,
- 26:45Speaker 3: don't start now. You know what I'm saying? Like, don't
- 26:48Speaker 3: start now. Like, we talked about the absentee father. Like,
- 26:51Speaker 3: that's like the absentee father who ain't been there, but
- 26:53Speaker 3: now he found out his son got on, and now
- 26:55Speaker 3: he trying to get back in his son's life because
- 26:57Speaker 3: he need a positive male role model in his life.
- 26:59Speaker 1: Now you ain't been there.
- 27:01Speaker 3: The Knicks have been the Antoine Fishers of the damn NBA,
- 27:05Speaker 3: and now you trying to get back.
- 27:06Speaker 1: In their life. What you.
- 27:10Speaker 2: How come you don't want me, man?
- 27:12Speaker 3: I'm still standing.
- 27:16Speaker 2: I don't... I think the part that confuses me about
- 27:20Speaker 2: this is Trump normally does not go to what I
- 27:25Speaker 2: would term away games, right? Trump is trying to go
- 27:30Speaker 2: to NFL games where they doing something for the veterans.
- 27:34Speaker 2: Trump trying to go down there to them SEC games.
- 27:37Speaker 2: Trump is understandably... He wants to go places where he
- 27:42Speaker 2: feel like people like him. I don't think that room
- 27:49Speaker 2: is the room that he wants to go in. Like
- 27:54Speaker 2: that's going to be loud, throaty boos.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Yeah, it is.
- 28:01Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:01Speaker 3: Maybe he can go with his J6 quarterback. Maybe they
- 28:05Speaker 3: can go together. I mean, that's how you, if you
- 28:08Speaker 3: want to appeal to New York fans, just like have
- 28:11Speaker 3: Jackson come with him.
- 28:12Speaker 2: The tone of your voice. We've been texting through that
- 28:15Speaker 2: football season too. You was a little excited. Felt like
- 28:18Speaker 2: you had a quarterback, somebody that you could believe in.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Now all of a sudden, no expression on your face, man.
- 28:24Speaker 2: What happened? What's up? What's up with you, man? What's
- 28:25Speaker 2: up with you, folks?
- 28:26Speaker 3: Look, I'm going to try to be my best to
- 28:27Speaker 3: be an active NFL player in the locker room. It's like, hey,
- 28:30Speaker 3: as long as you can help my team win, we're
- 28:32Speaker 3: going to ride it out. But I don't got to
- 28:34Speaker 3: agree with the stuff you do outside the locker room.
- 28:36Speaker 1: How's that?
- 28:39Speaker 3: But yeah, but to your point, it's going to be
- 28:42Speaker 3: interesting to see how this goes down if Trump does
- 28:45Speaker 3: come to one of these home games. Because like you said,
- 28:47Speaker 3: it's a little bit different in the NFL. It's different
- 28:49Speaker 3: going to these SEC football games. The NBA and the
- 28:52Speaker 3: NBA fans, they don't kick it the same way. And
- 28:54Speaker 3: it's going to be interesting. And of course, he's going
- 28:56Speaker 3: to want to be seen. So I don't know if
- 28:57Speaker 3: that's a court side seat or what. Because also, too,
- 29:00Speaker 3: at these venues, he's in a a suite somewhere, an NBA.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Is he going to be courtside?
- 29:05Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 29:06Speaker 3: I don't want that to overshadow what we've been able
- 29:11Speaker 3: to see from this team and this experience and just
- 29:14Speaker 3: the overall joy that this run has brought to New
- 29:18Speaker 3: York and you being there, beating New York and New
- 29:21Speaker 3: York Knicks fans. It seems bigger than just somebody trying
- 29:25Speaker 3: to capitalize on the moment right now.
- 29:28Speaker 1: I just like it.
- 29:29Speaker 2: I can't believe that he wants to go there. I
- 29:32Speaker 2: will say this, though. Have you seen this? That between
- 29:36Speaker 2: June 25th and July 10th, they are having... what they
- 29:40Speaker 2: call the Great American State Fair on the National Mall
- 29:47Speaker 2: in Washington, D.C. And they sent out a flyer with, well,
- 29:53Speaker 2: flyers on Twitter, with some of the talent and Some
- 29:57Speaker 2: of this talent has already said that they ain't got
- 30:00Speaker 2: nothing to do with this. They were invited to it
- 30:03Speaker 2: under different pretenses, but now it's being called Trump-backed. But
- 30:07Speaker 2: the featured performers that are on this are Martina McBride.
- 30:11Speaker 2: I'm aware of her, but I don't know none of
- 30:13Speaker 2: her songs. I can only assume that she has one
- 30:16Speaker 2: or two songs. You may be asking why. I'll give
- 30:18Speaker 2: you the rest of the bill. Young MC, who has
- 30:22Speaker 2: said that he is not showing up, but that's one
- 30:24Speaker 2: or two songs, right? Like everybody on this list, it
- 30:28Speaker 2: sounded like halftime at an NBA game. CNC Music Factory,
- 30:33Speaker 2: one or two songs. That boy from CNC Music Factory,
- 30:37Speaker 2: he cut that ponytail and he looks swole as hell
- 30:39Speaker 2: in this picture, by the way. Vanilla Ice, one or
- 30:44Speaker 2: two songs. Go Ninja, go Ninja, go. Milli Vanilli, but
- 30:52Speaker 2: it's just the one that's left.
- 30:54Speaker 1: We just got Milli.
- 30:55Speaker 2: Yeah, or Vanilli. You could convince me either way. The Commodores, who, like,
- 31:02Speaker 2: not to be confused with Lotta Richie, and I don't
- 31:06Speaker 2: know if this picture of the Commodores would tie into
- 31:09Speaker 2: a picture of the Commodores from, say, 1983. I don't
- 31:12Speaker 2: know what version of the Commodores. They have more than
- 31:15Speaker 2: one or two songs, but, you know, no Lotta Richie.
- 31:18Speaker 2: Morris Day of the Time, and Morris already said he
- 31:21Speaker 2: ain't going to be there.
- 31:22Speaker 1: Yeah, I did see that. Morris was like, nah, this
- 31:24Speaker 1: ain't me. Hello, Ryder.
- 31:25Speaker 2: I feel like one or two songs.
- 31:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:29Speaker 2: I know he has more, but I sure ain't heard them.
- 31:31Speaker 2: And Bret Michaels, and I don't know how familiar you
- 31:33Speaker 2: are with Poison, but they're really bad. They're really, really bad.
- 31:40Speaker 2: So all these people are one or two songs. And
- 31:43Speaker 2: I feel like what happened here is that Trump done
- 31:46Speaker 2: got so many miles out of this YMCA that he's
- 31:49Speaker 2: just like, can we get the one or two hit
- 31:52Speaker 2: wonders of the whole world to come out here? I
- 31:57Speaker 2: can't imagine getting on a plane to go see no
- 32:00Speaker 2: goddamn Milli or Vanilli.
- 32:07Speaker 3: Look, For who?
- 32:09Speaker 1: For what?
- 32:11Speaker 2: This is the thing with Milli Vanilli. You and I
- 32:15Speaker 2: are of age, right? Do you in real time remember
- 32:22Speaker 2: the controversy when they found out that they was lip syncing?
- 32:26Speaker 1: I remember it was a thing.
- 32:28Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, because it's right at the turnover age, right?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Our two-year age difference, that's in the two years that matters, right?
- 32:38Speaker 3: For me, it was more than the controversy itself. It
- 32:41Speaker 3: was the jokes that came from the controversy. It was
- 32:43Speaker 3: the Arsenio Hall. It was the In Living Color skits.
- 32:46Speaker 3: For me, that's what it was more about.
- 32:48Speaker 2: They were such a big deal when that happened. Like,
- 32:51Speaker 2: they won Best New Artist at the Grammys, everything else.
- 32:54Speaker 2: They were such a big deal. I'll never forget. They
- 32:55Speaker 2: came to Houston, and they had them on the radio,
- 32:58Speaker 2: and it was so funny, because Houston was at its
- 33:00Speaker 2: country-ass best, because everybody was calling and being like, hello?
- 33:04Speaker 2: Is this Millie? Or is this Vanilli? They both there,
- 33:06Speaker 2: and they would be like, no, it's Rob and Fobb.
- 33:09Speaker 2: So which one is Millie and which one is Vanilli?
- 33:12Speaker 2: I don't know how people just decided that it couldn't
- 33:15Speaker 2: just be the name of the group, that they had
- 33:17Speaker 2: to be Millie and Vanilli. Anyway, I don't know the
- 33:21Speaker 2: last time anybody listened to Millie Vanilli, but that shit sucks.
- 33:25Speaker 2: I can't believe that that was ever a thing. And
- 33:28Speaker 2: not only does it suck, the idea that those vocals
- 33:33Speaker 2: required you to get somebody else to sing them Like,
- 33:39Speaker 2: they didn't even pay a lot of money for it. Like,
- 33:41Speaker 2: this isn't like Martha Washington. She was singing on the
- 33:44Speaker 2: CSE Music Factory stuff, right? She could really, really sing.
- 33:47Speaker 2: They just thought she was too big, so they didn't
- 33:48Speaker 2: want to put her out there into visuals. These motherfuckers
- 33:52Speaker 2: that were singing and pretending to be Milli Vanilli, I
- 33:54Speaker 2: would want to go get some singers to pretend to
- 33:56Speaker 2: be better than that.
- 34:01Speaker 3: But I think that also speaks to what, as fans,
- 34:05Speaker 3: as listeners, we were able to accept at the time.
- 34:08Speaker 3: Because you mentioned, I'm glad you brought up the CNC
- 34:10Speaker 3: music factor. We accepted that shit too. Knowing we looked
- 34:12Speaker 3: at the video and saw the skinny girl singing in
- 34:14Speaker 3: the video. Knowing that wasn't her. Knowing at the same time,
- 34:17Speaker 3: think about it. We were listening to Snap and Power, right?
- 34:20Speaker 1: I got the Power.
- 34:21Speaker 3: We knew the girl in the video wasn't singing that shit.
- 34:23Speaker 3: singing those songs, but we accepted it. It was the
- 34:25Speaker 3: same deal with Milli Villi. It was all the same.
- 34:27Speaker 3: Milli Vanilli, Snap, C & C Music Factory. It was
- 34:30Speaker 3: all the same. It was like, think about it. Music
- 34:33Speaker 3: very much, and I'll make this correlation all the time,
- 34:34Speaker 3: music is professional wrestling. And that's exactly what it was.
- 34:37Speaker 3: We were able to, we just accepted it.
- 34:40Speaker 1: It was like, hey, just don't ask questions, just accept it. Like,
- 34:42Speaker 1: I got the power. Great, go right ahead.
- 34:44Speaker 2: But with Milli Vanilli, people did not. People felt like
- 34:47Speaker 2: they were truly betrayed.
- 34:50Speaker 1: And again.
- 34:51Speaker 2: this was not substantial music. Like there was not a
- 34:56Speaker 2: depth to what it is that.
- 34:58Speaker 1: They were doing. Come on, boy, you weren't blaming it
- 34:59Speaker 1: on the Rain Man.
- 35:01Speaker 2: That's the closest one. That is the closest thing they
- 35:04Speaker 2: had to a song that was like, okay, but baby,
- 35:08Speaker 2: don't you lose my number. It was like, yo, Phil
- 35:14Speaker 2: Collins just did a Don't Lose My Number song two
- 35:16Speaker 2: years ago and that thing was jamming. This does not jam.
- 35:21Speaker 2: I just can't imagine they sent that tape in and
- 35:23Speaker 2: the label was like, yo, this is really good, but
- 35:26Speaker 2: we got to get the right faces on this. And
- 35:29Speaker 2: then they just go get these dudes with the extensions.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Cause that was that, that was that era with them
- 35:33Speaker 2: and Terrence Trent Darby and all of these cats, like
- 35:36Speaker 2: where the eighties was wild, man. Like to be such
- 35:40Speaker 2: a homophobic time, cats were really free in the choices
- 35:43Speaker 2: they was making.
- 35:44Speaker 1: Well, yeah, that was, yeah.
- 35:45Speaker 3: And two, you have to think about it too. And
- 35:47Speaker 3: that goes back to, you know, folks ripping off the
- 35:51Speaker 3: influence and the fluidity and the imaging.
- 35:54Speaker 1: Of a Prince, you know? and trying to be Prince-like.
- 35:58Speaker 3: We can't do what Prince does, but maybe we can
- 36:00Speaker 3: take some elements of what Prince does, slap it on
- 36:03Speaker 3: this artist, get somebody else to sing for him, and
- 36:05Speaker 3: there we go. But I ask you, I see very
- 36:09Speaker 3: much similar correlations to what happens with music now, where
- 36:13Speaker 3: because the expectations are not that these artists are going
- 36:16Speaker 3: to put out great albums or whatever, it's like.
- 36:18Speaker 1: What can we do to go viral?
- 36:20Speaker 3: In the same way with those artists back then, what
- 36:22Speaker 3: can we do to get a number one hit or
- 36:23Speaker 3: smash it It's the same way now. It's like, you
- 36:26Speaker 3: look at now, they're starting to have concerts now for these,
- 36:29Speaker 3: because the big thing this year was This is like
- 36:32Speaker 3: 2026 is the new 2016. So with that, you had
- 36:35Speaker 3: all of these one hit wonders from, you know, from
- 36:38Speaker 3: Whippin and Nene and all of that stuff from 10
- 36:40Speaker 3: years ago.
- 36:41Speaker 1: And it's the same thing.
- 36:42Speaker 3: You got a bunch of these folks, even within the
- 36:44Speaker 3: last decade now, there's just a bunch of I'm not
- 36:46Speaker 3: even going to say one hit one. It's just a
- 36:48Speaker 3: bunch of folks who got viral and then and they
- 36:51Speaker 3: didn't even have their 15 minutes of fame. Literally, it
- 36:53Speaker 3: was like, hey, one week and hey, we on to
- 36:56Speaker 3: the next one.
- 36:57Speaker 2: Well, is anybody going to see them in concert? Because
- 36:59Speaker 2: concert tickets done got so ridiculous. Have you seen this thing?
- 37:02Speaker 2: This is the best lie I've seen about all these
- 37:04Speaker 2: people canceling these concerts because they suffer for what they
- 37:06Speaker 2: call blue dot fever. Yeah. Where you go to the
- 37:10Speaker 2: website and you go to get tickets and it's all
- 37:12Speaker 2: them blue dots. Blue dot fever rampant, man. I think
- 37:16Speaker 2: I got one concert I'm going to see, man, because
- 37:18Speaker 2: people charging too much money, man. I'm trying to go
- 37:21Speaker 2: to the U.S. Open for tennis, dawg. I'm going to
- 37:23Speaker 2: be up there with Bob Uecker, baby. I can't pay
- 37:25Speaker 2: that money to be sitting down there, pay $ 1, 000 for
- 37:27Speaker 2: no first round.
- 37:28Speaker 3: Yeah, my daughter Shannon, she's very much in the concert
- 37:33Speaker 3: age at 17.
- 37:35Speaker 2: 17.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly.
- 37:38Speaker 3: So, of course, she did the Beyonce thing recently and
- 37:43Speaker 3: wanted to do Chris Brown. Chris Brown and Usher, I
- 37:45Speaker 3: think this summer, I think her and Braylon are probably
- 37:47Speaker 3: going to make their way to But we're going to look,
- 37:50Speaker 3: we're going to the cheapest. We're going to the Syracuse
- 37:51Speaker 3: concert because they get too expensive in MetLife. So we're
- 37:54Speaker 3: going to Syracuse.
- 37:56Speaker 2: Dude, everywhere is too expensive, man. I told you I
- 37:58Speaker 2: had to get back with the people at these concerts, man.
- 38:01Speaker 2: When I was like really riding high, baby, I was down.
- 38:03Speaker 2: I was riding high and the prices hadn't jumped up
- 38:05Speaker 2: so much. I was right up close to everybody. Now
- 38:08Speaker 2: I'm like, wow, you can see the whole screen from
- 38:11Speaker 2: back here. This is how the concert was truly intended
- 38:17Speaker 2: to be appreciated.
- 38:19Speaker 3: Like the fact that you in the seats where you
- 38:20Speaker 3: can see the house band.
- 38:22Speaker 2: That's right.
- 38:23Speaker 1: Oh, they jamming back there. That's right.
- 38:25Speaker 2: That's right, man. I had to step it back, man.
- 38:27Speaker 2: Like I had a couple of things where I was
- 38:28Speaker 2: just like, I'm not paying the price to get down there.
- 38:30Speaker 2: And I stepped back and I had to be honest, man.
- 38:32Speaker 2: It was pretty cool back there. You know what I'm saying?
- 38:34Speaker 2: It's sound to say. That's what I made it for.
- 38:38Speaker 2: I'm like, yeah, I went to the U.S. Open last year, boy.
- 38:40Speaker 2: I was up there, dog. But you know what? I
- 38:42Speaker 2: could see if the ball was in and out. You
- 38:44Speaker 2: know what I'm saying? It didn't feel as different.
- 38:48Speaker 3: All right. I got another question for you, too, since
- 38:50Speaker 3: we're talking these new dudes, right?
- 38:53Speaker 1: Getting back to sports.
- 38:57Speaker 3: How am I supposed to feel about how the Oklahoma
- 39:00Speaker 3: City Thunder get down, bro?
- 39:02Speaker 1: Because I've been.
- 39:03Speaker 3: I've been struggling with this. I really have.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Channing, you haven't struggled at all. You've been calling them
- 39:09Speaker 2: dorks for over a year.
- 39:10Speaker 3: See, that's the thing. I'm trying to be better, bro.
- 39:14Speaker 3: I'm trying.
- 39:15Speaker 2: I know, but I don't know why you thought I
- 39:17Speaker 2: was going to assist you on this. I got your
- 39:20Speaker 2: receipts on this. You're just like, I can't get with
- 39:23Speaker 2: these dorks, man.
- 39:25Speaker 3: Exactly.
- 39:25Speaker 1: That's why I'm coming to you now.
- 39:28Speaker 3: I'm trying to be a better person, be a better
- 39:31Speaker 3: role model, be a better father for my kids.
- 39:34Speaker 1: And like, hey, I just.
- 39:36Speaker 3: Got to accept everybody for their differences. And how they
- 39:39Speaker 3: get down is how they get down.
- 39:40Speaker 1: I can't do it.
- 39:41Speaker 2: They the Oklahoma City Blue Devils. Now, once I say
- 39:44Speaker 2: it like that, don't you feel a little better about
- 39:46Speaker 2: staying entrenched on your principles?
- 39:48Speaker 3: I'm just.
- 39:49Speaker 1: I'm just waiting for them to slap the floor.
- 39:51Speaker 3: Like, I'm just waiting for Luke Dort or Kacen Wallace
- 39:54Speaker 3: to slap the floor on defense.
- 39:56Speaker 1: I mean, they got Jeremy Kane. He know how to
- 39:58Speaker 1: do it.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Oh, my God. Yeah, he's a double devil. He's the
- 40:04Speaker 2: one where they're like, he's the cat I try to like.
- 40:09Speaker 2: And it just becomes incredibly difficult because it's all of it.
- 40:13Speaker 2: You know what I'm saying? It's the Drake thing. It's
- 40:17Speaker 2: like his clear affection for musicals. I appreciate though that
- 40:22Speaker 2: he go hard on the court, right? Like once I
- 40:25Speaker 2: saw what his off the court get down was, I
- 40:27Speaker 2: should have immediately known he must be a beast on
- 40:28Speaker 2: the court because that's the only way that you can
- 40:30Speaker 2: get away with this. But the way that he just
- 40:32Speaker 2: completely rides for Drake, like I'm friends with some OV hoes.
- 40:37Speaker 2: So I need to be kind of careful in the
- 40:39Speaker 2: way that I look at it. But at the same time,
- 40:41Speaker 2: they make it very difficult for me. Like how am
- 40:43Speaker 2: I supposed to tell other people that you okay? You
- 40:47Speaker 2: know what I mean? Like, how am I supposed to
- 40:49Speaker 2: tell other people you cool and you an OV hoe?
- 40:52Speaker 2: And he, Jerry McCain, is an OV hoe and then
- 40:55Speaker 2: everything else. That's the one that's difficult. But now he
- 40:58Speaker 2: played for the Devils. And so it's like, cool, I
- 41:00Speaker 2: didn't even got to think about this no more. I'm
- 41:01Speaker 2: just kind of out on all of y'all right now.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Right. And it should be celebrated.
- 41:07Speaker 3: Like, it's like all the things that they say is
- 41:11Speaker 3: right with sports and they like each other and they
- 41:14Speaker 3: genuinely like each other on and off the court. unselfishness,
- 41:17Speaker 3: next man up, all the cliches, all the, you know,
- 41:20Speaker 3: get rid, all the cliches that you hear. And it's
- 41:22Speaker 3: like all the stuff that should be celebrated, but it's
- 41:24Speaker 3: something about, I just can't, I can't quite.
- 41:28Speaker 2: Just don't, just don't.
- 41:30Speaker 3: And I'm trying not to even harp on the unethical basketball,
- 41:33Speaker 3: but it's some, like it's, it's honestly, um, it's a
- 41:37Speaker 3: level of punk shit that goes on with, with the
- 41:39Speaker 3: style of play. Like it should be focusing on how
- 41:42Speaker 3: dope SJ is as an offensive player or the fact
- 41:44Speaker 3: that defensively they can put the clamps down on anybody
- 41:47Speaker 3: that that's what we should be talking about, but it's
- 41:49Speaker 3: hard to do. So when you see some of the
- 41:51Speaker 3: stuff that they'd be doing, like I get it, all
- 41:53Speaker 3: great players draw fouls.
- 41:55Speaker 1: SGA does the same. That's great.
- 41:56Speaker 3: But some of the stuff he does when landing and
- 41:58Speaker 3: trying to, and trying to always land on the opponent,
- 42:01Speaker 3: the defenders foot, so he can get the flagrant foul.
- 42:03Speaker 3: Like that's, That's not a natural basketball motion.
- 42:06Speaker 1: And I get it. Maybe you're usurping the rules or
- 42:07Speaker 1: whatever the case, but it's like, like, Oh, like I
- 42:10Speaker 1: get it.
- 42:10Speaker 3: It's recreational basketball, but 99% of the stuff that they
- 42:13Speaker 3: get away with, get down with wouldn't be called and
- 42:16Speaker 3: pick up and get your ass whooped on the, on the,
- 42:18Speaker 3: in the blacktop.
- 42:18Speaker 1: I'm just being honest with you. I'm just, I'm just
- 42:21Speaker 1: keeping it above.
- 42:22Speaker 3: And I get it.
- 42:23Speaker 1: It's two different, it's two different sports, but maybe that's it.
- 42:26Speaker 1: But I'm trying, bro. I'm trying to, I'm trying to
- 42:29Speaker 1: appreciate it.
- 42:30Speaker 3: Cause I'm gonna tell you this right now, but I
- 42:32Speaker 3: said this to my wife today, look, If the Thunder
- 42:34Speaker 3: get to the NBA Finals, there's going to be some
- 42:36Speaker 3: godly things that's going to be said about that Oklahoma
- 42:38Speaker 3: City Thunder squad coming from me watching the Knicks.
- 42:40Speaker 1: I'm going to lean in the camera. I'm going to
- 42:42Speaker 1: tell you this right now, bro.
- 42:43Speaker 3: If they play the Knicks, there's going to be some
- 42:45Speaker 3: nasty stuff that I'm going to be saying about these boys.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I'm going to just let you know that right now.
- 42:48Speaker 2: I kind of want to come to the house and watch,
- 42:50Speaker 2: to be honest. If it was just a little bit closer,
- 42:53Speaker 2: I'd have to watch myself. Let me ask you this, though.
- 42:55Speaker 2: The Thunder got a former Knick, Isaiah Hartenstein. And I
- 42:58Speaker 2: listened to how loud the ovation is when he come
- 43:01Speaker 2: into the games at Oklahoma City. And I have one
- 43:03Speaker 2: question for you. You think they know?
- 43:06Speaker 1: No, that's Isaiah. That's Isaiah.
- 43:09Speaker 2: I don't know.
- 43:09Speaker 1: Look, for the Oklahoma City fans, that's Isaiah. That's Isaiah.
- 43:15Speaker 2: I think they leading in on the Hartenstein. Isaiah might
- 43:17Speaker 2: get them a little too close to the truth.
- 43:19Speaker 1: That's Isaiah Hartenstein.
- 43:21Speaker 3: But for us that know, for us that know when
- 43:24Speaker 3: he was in New York, that's Zay.
- 43:26Speaker 1: That's Zay.
- 43:27Speaker 3: I bet you the team don't even call him Zay. Look,
- 43:30Speaker 3: he left Zay. When he left New York, he left
- 43:32Speaker 3: Zay there.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Let me tell you something. He keep this up and
- 43:35Speaker 2: he keep it quiet and don't make a big deal
- 43:37Speaker 2: about it. They'll put his jersey up there right next
- 43:39Speaker 2: to Nick Collison's. If he just lay.
- 43:45Speaker 4: Low, he.
- 43:47Speaker 1: All the grit and determination, huh?
- 43:50Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. He's like, look, man, I don't need
- 43:52Speaker 2: to talk about it anymore. He's already said it. But
- 43:54Speaker 2: I heard the way they was clapping. I don't think
- 43:56Speaker 2: they know. I've been watching basketball for a long time.
- 43:59Speaker 2: I know what it is. They clap for him like
- 44:00Speaker 2: he check.
- 44:03Speaker 3: And that's the thing, too.
- 44:05Speaker 1: It's like, You hear Chet talk still to this day.
- 44:09Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I tell you this, though. Chet, Chet,
- 44:13Speaker 2: Vic gonna keep destroying Chet like he has, and Chet
- 44:15Speaker 2: gonna come back here. Chet gonna come out here like
- 44:17Speaker 2: Travis Kelsey, gonna bring his ass right back home. Like,
- 44:21Speaker 2: I feel like Chet Chudow, he gonna ride this out, like,
- 44:23Speaker 2: all the way. Eminem, the only one that ain't really
- 44:25Speaker 2: let us down when it all came back down to it.
- 44:28Speaker 2: But all the rest of them, you gotta pick up
- 44:30Speaker 2: a goddamn acoustic guitar, You know what I'm saying? Or
- 44:33Speaker 2: all that stuff, right? They go right back.
- 44:36Speaker 3: And it's always the tails, too. You know what happens first?
- 44:38Speaker 3: They get a different haircut. Like, they get a different haircut.
- 44:42Speaker 3: The beard gonna be a little different. It's not gonna
- 44:44Speaker 3: be as sharp. It's gonna be a different beard. Might
- 44:46Speaker 3: even cut the beard off. It's gonna be a different haircut.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Right now, Chet's still rocking a mohawk, but they're gonna
- 44:51Speaker 3: put some product in it.
- 44:52Speaker 1: A little gel to differentiate from what it used to
- 44:55Speaker 1: look like.
- 44:56Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:56Speaker 2: But he might be true to it, though.
- 45:00Speaker 1: Look, I hope so, because I'm not going to lie,
- 45:02Speaker 1: I was disappointed.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Once Travis Kelsey left and got rid of the fade,
- 45:06Speaker 3: then you knew what time it was.
- 45:08Speaker 2: You went on home, huh? He didn't just go home.
- 45:11Speaker 2: He went home with the whitest woman in America. After
- 45:16Speaker 2: we had seen his movies, he was like, no, I
- 45:19Speaker 2: got to take it all the way. All the way.
- 45:24Speaker 2: And she made you sign a prenup.
- 45:28Speaker 3: It's like Travis It's like Travis Kelsey went through an intervention, though. Yes.
- 45:33Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Hey, hey, hey, hey, enough. Enough. Okay.
- 45:39Speaker 3: Like, look, you can keep smoking the weed, but the
- 45:42Speaker 3: fade got to go. No matter how hard I try,
- 45:47Speaker 3: I still love you. Had to go.
- 45:55Speaker 2: Add to go. Hey, last thing before we get out
- 45:57Speaker 2: of here. Would you rather see the Thunder or the Spurs?
- 46:02Speaker 3: I want to see Wemby. I want to see Wemby
- 46:05Speaker 3: on that stage. I want to see Wemby on that stage.
- 46:09Speaker 3: I think it'd be great as an NBA fan. I
- 46:11Speaker 3: think it'd be great to see him on that stage.
- 46:13Speaker 3: I think I feel better about the Knicks' chances now
- 46:17Speaker 3: than I did maybe three weeks ago against either of
- 46:19Speaker 3: these teams.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I think it'd be a good series. I don't think
- 46:23Speaker 1: It's going to be looked at as the Western Conference.
- 46:24Speaker 3: Finals being the de facto NBA Finals like people thought
- 46:28Speaker 3: a week ago.
- 46:29Speaker 1: So I think it'll be a good series either way.
- 46:31Speaker 1: But I would love to see Wembley on that stage, man.
- 46:33Speaker 2: Hey, I'm going to do one last thing while I
- 46:35Speaker 2: got you here as we got all our friends of
- 46:36Speaker 2: the program together. Today is Joel Anderson's birthday. And he
- 46:42Speaker 2: says that his birthday isn't a big deal. He don't
- 46:44Speaker 2: even do nothing. So I think we all need to
- 46:46Speaker 2: just tell Joel happy birthday. Let's see if he pick
- 46:49Speaker 2: up the phone. And if he don't, we'll just edit
- 46:57Speaker 2: it out. This motherfucker just sent me a text one
- 47:01Speaker 2: minute ago. I know he see this ringing. Your call
- 47:14Speaker 2: has been forwarded to- Fuck your old birthday. You know
- 47:21Speaker 2: what I'm saying?
- 47:21Speaker 3: You should keep that in for Joe's birthday.
- 47:24Speaker 2: Yeah, we know. We know he trying to spread in
- 47:28Speaker 2: some cheer. You know what I'm saying? Well, happy birthday, Joe.
- 47:33Speaker 2: Everybody go tell Joe happy birthday because I don't like
- 47:36Speaker 2: him acting like his birthday don't matter. So he needs
- 47:38Speaker 2: to hear how much we love a hater around these parts.
- 47:41Speaker 2: And not just any hater, just that one. The rest
- 47:43Speaker 2: of them we already so much fuck with. But Joe,
- 47:45Speaker 2: that's our hater. There we go. That's our hater. That's
- 47:50Speaker 2: Shannon Penn. Check him out. Afternoons ESPN Radio with Freddie
- 47:55Speaker 2: and Harry. My brother, I appreciate you.
- 47:58Speaker 3: I'm going to say some ungodly things about the Thunder
- 48:00Speaker 3: if they win this series.
- 48:02Speaker 2: I think you're going to say ungodly things about them
- 48:03Speaker 2: win or lose.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Well, that is true.
