- 0:00Speaker 1: Now, the Mark Simone Show on 710WOR. Filling in for Mark,
- 0:06Speaker 1: here's Ken Rosado. So nice to be with you. Happy
- 0:09Speaker 1: Labor Day weekend, if you're taking it early. A lot
- 0:12Speaker 1: of folks are doing that. We looked at a AAA
- 0:14Speaker 1: study earlier. We talked about it in the 9 o'clock hour. Apparently,
- 0:18Speaker 1: a good chunk of people who are heading out of
- 0:20Speaker 1: town have either already left or they're in the process
- 0:25Speaker 1: of leaving right now. So that was the suggestion was
- 0:29Speaker 1: that you leave by 11 AM. Now it's 1106. So,
- 0:31Speaker 1: so it's a little late. If you haven't left yet,
- 0:35Speaker 1: you should probably wait until about two or three in
- 0:38Speaker 1: the afternoon, depending on where you're headed. Uh, and if
- 0:41Speaker 1: you haven't left by then, uh, by like five o'clock,
- 0:44Speaker 1: it's going to be a nightmare. I think a lot
- 0:46Speaker 1: of folks head out when I worked at channel seven, uh,
- 0:49Speaker 1: for 20 years there, for those who may remember, I
- 0:51Speaker 1: did the morning show and the noon show, uh, we
- 0:54Speaker 1: used to have our traffic people on and we would
- 0:57Speaker 1: talk about how year after year Labor Day getaway started
- 1:02Speaker 1: earlier and earlier. So it started with Fridays at 5 p.m.,
- 1:06Speaker 1: then Fridays at noon, then Thursdays at 5 p.m. Now
- 1:10Speaker 1: it's Thursday midday when it kind of starts. So this
- 1:13Speaker 1: is kind of the rush is on right now. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: know that when last year when I left, I was
- 1:19Speaker 1: in this day last year. And when I left to
- 1:22Speaker 1: head back to New Jersey, I want to say it
- 1:23Speaker 1: took me two hours to get off of Manhattan Island.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Like every New Jersey escape at 1230 in the afternoon
- 1:30Speaker 1: was just bumper to bumper. You couldn't get out. It was,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I think the approach to the Lincoln tunnel was backed
- 1:35Speaker 1: up for seven or eight blocks. Kind of like the
- 1:37Speaker 1: worst of the holiday time, afternoon drive escape that that's
- 1:42Speaker 1: what it looked like at 12 o'clock or 1230 in
- 1:44Speaker 1: the afternoon. Anyway, we'd love to know what you have
- 1:47Speaker 1: to say about it. 800-321-0710, 800-321-0710. 0710. If you're just
- 1:54Speaker 1: hearing the voice, you're saying, who is that? Ken Rosato
- 1:56Speaker 1: used to be with Channel 7 for 20 years. I
- 1:58Speaker 1: was with Channel 5 before that and even Channel 55
- 2:01Speaker 1: before that. These days, I host a show on On
- 2:04Speaker 1: New Jersey. That's a New Jersey statewide streaming TV channel, onnj.com.
- 2:09Speaker 1: You can watch it anywhere in the world, onnj.com. And
- 2:13Speaker 1: believe it or not, we get calls from expats who've
- 2:16Speaker 1: left New Jersey and live overseas, and they call us
- 2:20Speaker 1: in the morning so they could keep up with New
- 2:21Speaker 1: Jersey news. But I have a lot of fun. I
- 2:24Speaker 1: get to do the show from my home in a
- 2:26Speaker 1: studio in the house. And that's always great. The commute
- 2:29Speaker 1: being going down a flight of stairs after 25 years
- 2:32Speaker 1: of schlepping into Manhattan every day from Jersey. It is
- 2:35Speaker 1: certainly nice having that alternate commute. But we'd love to
- 2:39Speaker 1: know from you what you have to say about some
- 2:42Speaker 1: of the topics we've talked about. Did you hear that
- 2:45Speaker 1: Mayor Mamdani may be using taxpayer dollars to finance a
- 2:49Speaker 1: team of social media influencers. So apparently, Mamdani has a
- 2:55Speaker 1: team of 200 young people who are targeting mainly Gen
- 2:59Speaker 1: Z types, Gen Z and Gen Alpha, using social media.
- 3:04Speaker 1: So many of the people are allegedly getting paid some
- 3:07Speaker 1: big salaries with your tax dollars. Many, they say, are
- 3:12Speaker 1: just influencers that are just doing it because they love
- 3:16Speaker 1: the guy. But there are some, at least, who are
- 3:19Speaker 1: being paid a salary. Now, is this the right thing?
- 3:22Speaker 1: And what exactly are they influencing with or whom are
- 3:26Speaker 1: they influencing and for what reason? Are you convincing people
- 3:31Speaker 1: to go with the democratic socialist mindset or are you
- 3:34Speaker 1: just telling people what's going on in the city? If
- 3:37Speaker 1: you are getting paid by the city, you are not
- 3:41Speaker 1: supposed to be political. You're only supposed to talk about
- 3:44Speaker 1: official city things. So it'd be interesting to see if
- 3:47Speaker 1: they could track anything down about this. But this team
- 3:49Speaker 1: is big. No other mayor in history has had a
- 3:52Speaker 1: social media team that large. You've traditionally had a press secretary,
- 3:56Speaker 1: and the press secretary had a team of maybe five
- 3:58Speaker 1: or ten people that they dealt with, usually about five people.
- 4:01Speaker 1: And they answered calls from all the main media, you know,
- 4:05Speaker 1: channels 245, 7911, etc., and the radio stations and newspapers.
- 4:10Speaker 1: And that was it. And then they would post a
- 4:11Speaker 1: couple of things on social media. What Mamdani has done
- 4:15Speaker 1: is he enlisted this team to speak in different languages
- 4:19Speaker 1: and go to the different websites that these different language
- 4:22Speaker 1: groups of people use. Spanish, Hindi, Urdu, Bangla, using platforms
- 4:26Speaker 1: like WhatsApp and TikTok. So you got to think about that.
- 4:31Speaker 1: And what is the purpose behind it? You have any ideas?
- 4:35Speaker 1: Let me know. 800-321-0710. 800-321-0710. Hey, President Trump, just to
- 4:43Speaker 1: tweet the libs some more, his face is now on
- 4:46Speaker 1: the new $ 1 coin. It's a gold-colored coin, although it's
- 4:50Speaker 1: not actual gold. It's made with an amalgam of copper
- 4:54Speaker 1: and nickel and some other metals, but it looks gold.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And there were 250,000 of these coins minted. You cannot
- 5:04Speaker 1: put them in circulation yet. Even though they are valid
- 5:07Speaker 1: legal tender, they cannot be used until after Trump leaves office.
- 5:12Speaker 1: That's under the law. So federal law says no living
- 5:15Speaker 1: or a president who's currently holding office can have money
- 5:21Speaker 1: printed with their face, their likeness on it. So they
- 5:24Speaker 1: could leave office and then put it into circulation, have
- 5:27Speaker 1: it put in circulation, but not while they're in office.
- 5:29Speaker 1: So right now, these... Trump dollars are being distributed in
- 5:34Speaker 1: sealed cases. So you could keep it on your mantle
- 5:38Speaker 1: and show everybody and piss off your liberal relatives when
- 5:40Speaker 1: they come for Thanksgiving. Say, look what I got. And
- 5:43Speaker 1: just hear like Aunt Joan from Massapequa. Say, you suck,
- 5:47Speaker 1: you stupid conservative. That's the way she would speak in
- 5:51Speaker 1: my mind, at least. That's the aunt I'm thinking of.
- 5:54Speaker 1: But they are the $ 250, 000 that they put on sale
- 5:56Speaker 1: at the U.S. Mint. went in seconds. Literally seconds. They
- 6:05Speaker 1: had bags of, let me see this, 25 coin rolls
- 6:08Speaker 1: and 100 coin bags of were priced between $ 61 and $ 154. 50,
- 6:14Speaker 1: according to the Mint, and they were gone instantly. So
- 6:18Speaker 1: that's interesting. So either you have somebody who bought up
- 6:21Speaker 1: as many as possible to probably resell them for more money,
- 6:24Speaker 1: which is, I'm thinking, happened, or a lot of people
- 6:27Speaker 1: got wind of it and, you know, really like the guy.
- 6:30Speaker 1: According to a current poll that is out, and this
- 6:32Speaker 1: is a poll, of course, now I'm going to lose
- 6:35Speaker 1: where it is. It's the Harvard, what is it called?
- 6:38Speaker 1: The Caps Harvard Harris Poll. That's what it is. It
- 6:42Speaker 1: is Mark Penn. I'm sure you've seen the pollster Mark Penn,
- 6:45Speaker 1: the white hair. Very good pollster, very accurate pollster. He
- 6:49Speaker 1: shows that for the last few days of August, Trump's
- 6:51Speaker 1: numbers are actually up. Overall support of 48%, which is good.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It's up two points from a month earlier. So, you know,
- 7:00Speaker 1: say what you want about the man. He's very polarizing,
- 7:02Speaker 1: that's for sure. But his popularity is not as low
- 7:05Speaker 1: as many people in mainstream media are making it out
- 7:07Speaker 1: to be. Some of the more, the cheesier polls, Mark
- 7:11Speaker 1: talks about the college polls and stuff that are not
- 7:13Speaker 1: financed by serious groups. Those polls show them in the mid-30s.
- 7:18Speaker 1: But the more serious polls have them in the mid
- 7:20Speaker 1: to upper 40s, especially among Republicans. He's into the 60s
- 7:24Speaker 1: and 70s and supports some cases higher. And, you know,
- 7:29Speaker 1: I think it's all going to depend on what happens
- 7:31Speaker 1: with the economy. For everybody, their day-to-day stresses, based on
- 7:35Speaker 1: the money they have in their pockets, And how you
- 7:37Speaker 1: treat your family and your friends, all the mood that
- 7:40Speaker 1: you're in really comes down to can you get the
- 7:42Speaker 1: bills paid and how hard are you working and do
- 7:44Speaker 1: you have to work that second or third job to
- 7:46Speaker 1: make ends meet? Or if you're on Social Security at
- 7:49Speaker 1: this point, are you able to stretch that check for
- 7:52Speaker 1: the month or are you now finding that by the
- 7:54Speaker 1: third week you're having to tap into savings? And those
- 7:57Speaker 1: are real-life problems. And that's where people will either love
- 8:02Speaker 1: or hate you as an elected official. Because what you
- 8:06Speaker 1: do and your influence in office has a direct impact
- 8:10Speaker 1: on real people's real lives. What do you think about that? 800-321-0710. 800-321-0710.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You can also download the iHeartRadio app, by the way,
- 8:22Speaker 1: if you haven't done that. Very easy to do. Download
- 8:25Speaker 1: it and you can listen to WOR anywhere in the world.
- 8:28Speaker 1: Just download the iHeartRadio app and go to 710WOR. There
- 8:32Speaker 1: you go. You stream us anywhere you get the internet.
- 8:35Speaker 1: This is Ken Rosato, formerly from Channel 7 and Channel 5,
- 8:38Speaker 1: in for Mark Simone. On your Thursday, Mark is off
- 8:42Speaker 1: for a nice long weekend. We'd love to hear what
- 8:44Speaker 1: you have to say. By the way, Homeland Security Secretary
- 8:47Speaker 1: Mark Wayne Mullen, he announced on Tuesday that the White
- 8:50Speaker 1: House is now exploring legal ways to withhold federal funding
- 8:54Speaker 1: from sanctuary cities and states that that refuse to cooperate
- 8:58Speaker 1: with immigration enforcement. You've got to scratch your head and say,
- 9:01Speaker 1: where were these people doing this two years ago? They
- 9:03Speaker 1: should have been doing it from day one. He was
- 9:06Speaker 1: on the Ingram angle on Tuesday night with Laura Ingram,
- 9:10Speaker 1: and he said there have been more than 2,100 illegal
- 9:13Speaker 1: migrants arrested in New York City alone of late, and
- 9:17Speaker 1: that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will continue deportations despite all
- 9:21Speaker 1: the sanctuary restrictions. And people like Kathy Hochul, the governor,
- 9:26Speaker 1: making it all but impossible for ICE agents to do
- 9:29Speaker 1: their jobs in a blue state like New York. You know,
- 9:33Speaker 1: the blue state governors and blue city mayors are kind
- 9:38Speaker 1: of crossing the line into impeding the actions of federal agents.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And I think they're getting pretty close to a point
- 9:45Speaker 1: where Mark Wayne Mullen can issue orders of arrest. Because
- 9:49Speaker 1: when you get to a point where you're telling local
- 9:51Speaker 1: police that, okay, you're holding a person who committed a
- 9:54Speaker 1: federal crime, You're holding them for something else, but you
- 9:57Speaker 1: can't let ICE agents near them. I'm sorry. The ICE
- 10:01Speaker 1: agents are police just like you are, and if this
- 10:03Speaker 1: person is guilty of a crime, they have a right
- 10:05Speaker 1: to arrest them. Get out of the way, Kathy, and
- 10:07Speaker 1: don't order your police to do something illegal. Remember, there
- 10:10Speaker 1: is something called the Supremacy Clause of the Constitution, which
- 10:13Speaker 1: superimposes its authority over local authority. And so once you
- 10:18Speaker 1: cross that line, that's when you open yourself up to
- 10:20Speaker 1: potential arrest, Kathy Hochul. Don't forget that. I would love
- 10:24Speaker 1: to see a person like, I'm not saying Kathy herself,
- 10:28Speaker 1: but a person like Kathy Hochul who pushes ICE just
- 10:31Speaker 1: a little too far to see them in an orange
- 10:33Speaker 1: jumpsuit handcuffed for breaking federal law. You do that one time,
- 10:38Speaker 1: you have one person like that under arrest, you'll never
- 10:40Speaker 1: see a local official or a state official doing it again. Guaranteed.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Because they all talk a great game when they think
- 10:46Speaker 1: they're insulated by the state police and protected until they
- 10:49Speaker 1: get hauled off in cuffs. And believe me, the state
- 10:52Speaker 1: police are not going to do anything to protect you
- 10:53Speaker 1: from the federal police. Trust me on that one. 800-321-0710. 800-321-0710.
- 10:59Speaker 1: The number to call. I don't know if you heard
- 11:03Speaker 1: about this Congressman Brandon Gill. Love this guy. He's a
- 11:07Speaker 1: guy who looks a little like Superman. Very young congressman
- 11:10Speaker 1: from Texas. His hair, he has this little flip of
- 11:13Speaker 1: hair in the front. Looks very much like Christopher Reeves
- 11:15Speaker 1: did in the original Superman. He just unveiled a bill Thursday. Oh,
- 11:22Speaker 1: this morning. I thought it was last Thursday. No, it
- 11:24Speaker 1: was this morning. That would end snap use of money
- 11:30Speaker 1: in restaurants. Let me explain that. So if you're on
- 11:32Speaker 1: food stamps. in many states you can take your ebt
- 11:37Speaker 1: card which is basically what you know years ago you
- 11:40Speaker 1: actually got a physical food stamp today you get a
- 11:42Speaker 1: what looks like a debit card and basically is a
- 11:44Speaker 1: debit card but it's the money that would be on
- 11:47Speaker 1: food stamps years ago loaded onto the card well you're
- 11:50Speaker 1: supposed to use that for food for yourself and your
- 11:51Speaker 1: kids right and it's meant it's not meant to feed
- 11:54Speaker 1: an entire family every meal every day it's meant to
- 11:58Speaker 1: bridge the gap uh you know, a lot of people say, Oh,
- 12:01Speaker 1: you only get this on food stamps. Well, yeah, it's
- 12:03Speaker 1: not supposed to be three, three meals, seven days a week,
- 12:06Speaker 1: 365 days a year. It's supposed to, you know, I'm
- 12:09Speaker 1: 50 bucks short. I can't afford, uh, you know, vegetables
- 12:13Speaker 1: or fruit, or I have zero meat in, you know, okay. That's,
- 12:17Speaker 1: and that's what it's for. And there are a lot
- 12:18Speaker 1: of good people who genuinely need that. And this is
- 12:21Speaker 1: why it breaks my heart when I see people abusing
- 12:23Speaker 1: it because the people who need it then get the
- 12:25Speaker 1: bad rap for the people who are abusing it. Um,
- 12:28Speaker 1: You have people in California, mostly 90% of these people
- 12:31Speaker 1: are in California using their EBD cards in formal restaurants.
- 12:37Speaker 1: You heard me. So they're going out to cafe du
- 12:39Speaker 1: monde and they're sitting down and they're ordering a nice meal.
- 12:43Speaker 1: And then they put down what looks like a, just
- 12:45Speaker 1: a credit card. And that credit card is their food
- 12:47Speaker 1: stamp card. And they're paying for their expensive meal with
- 12:51Speaker 1: your tax dollars. That's where you cross the line. I'm sorry.
- 12:55Speaker 1: So now Brandon Gill is trying to pass a law
- 12:58Speaker 1: that makes it illegal to use. And I guess it
- 13:01Speaker 1: would block the use of your EBT card anywhere outside
- 13:05Speaker 1: of a store that is selling food. Now, the problem
- 13:07Speaker 1: with that is there are some moms who for a
- 13:10Speaker 1: quick meal, they'll go to McDonald's and use the EBT card.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I don't have a problem with that every now and then,
- 13:15Speaker 1: as long as you're feeding your kids nutritious food the
- 13:16Speaker 1: rest of the time. You're working hard. You're trying to
- 13:19Speaker 1: take care of the kids. You need a quick solution.
- 13:22Speaker 1: You go to McDonald's with the EBT card. I get it.
- 13:24Speaker 1: That's fine. But people who use that card the wrong
- 13:28Speaker 1: way really upsets me. I don't know how you feel
- 13:30Speaker 1: about that. Apparently, again, 90% of the abuse is happening
- 13:34Speaker 1: in the state of abuse, California. I think of the
- 13:37Speaker 1: $ 575 million of EBT card use in restaurants, 475 or
- 13:39Speaker 1: more million. I read in the statistic, is in the
- 13:49Speaker 1: state of California. In New York State, it's only about three,
- 13:51Speaker 1: three and a half million. And again, by restaurant, we
- 13:55Speaker 1: don't mean necessarily a formal place. It could be just
- 13:57Speaker 1: a fast food place. So they're not spending $ 1, 000 at
- 14:01Speaker 1: Mickey D's. They're going for 20 bucks for a quick
- 14:03Speaker 1: meal for the kid. But in California, they apparently are
- 14:06Speaker 1: doing something a little more nefarious. But we'd love to
- 14:08Speaker 1: know what you have to say about it. 800-321- 800-321-0710. 800-321-0710.
- 14:13Speaker 1: The number to call. And you are listening to The
- 14:18Speaker 1: Mark Simone Show. Ken Rosato in for Mark. Thunderstorms possible today,
- 14:22Speaker 1: but otherwise, the next few days, right through Monday, gorgeous,
- 14:26Speaker 1: beautiful sunshine, temps in the 80s. Hour three of the
- 14:30Speaker 1: all-new three-hour Mark Simone Show. And we will take your
- 14:33Speaker 1: calls next. 800-321-0710 for WOR.
