Transcript
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome to episode twenty nine of Rebellio for
- 0:13Speaker 1: October second, twenty twenty five.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I'm Nicole and I'm Tom and.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Today we are missing Amy, but we are joined by
- 0:37Speaker 1: a very special guest host for this episode, Lucy.
- 0:40Speaker 3: So welcome Lucy.
- 0:43Speaker 1: II. Yeah, and uh so we just wanted to have
- 0:47Speaker 1: you kind of like introduce yourself. You know, obviously the
- 0:50Speaker 1: run of the mill, your Hogwarts house, how you got
- 0:52Speaker 1: into Harry Potter, how you're involved in the fandom now.
- 0:57Speaker 4: Yeah, of course, So my hobo sass is a griffin,
- 1:01Speaker 4: and that's what I was sort of into on Potimore,
- 1:05Speaker 4: so I've just kept it, even though I kind of
- 1:06Speaker 4: think I'm more of a Raymond Claw now. I got
- 1:09Speaker 4: into Harry Potter for my mum, so when I was
- 1:14Speaker 4: about ten, eight or eight nine ten, she got the
- 1:19Speaker 4: first one as an audiobook, and I loved audiobooks at
- 1:22Speaker 4: the time, so I started the first one. I did
- 1:27Speaker 4: not like it at all, so I don't think I
- 1:29Speaker 4: made it very far, and then a year later I
- 1:32Speaker 4: tried it again and fell in love. So within probably
- 1:35Speaker 4: the span of the year, I had gone through them
- 1:38Speaker 4: all in audiobook form, and I think I read the
- 1:42Speaker 4: last one because I remember reading the last one and
- 1:46Speaker 4: that was just before the last film came out. Yeah,
- 1:51Speaker 4: so probably around twenty ten was when I last read
- 1:54Speaker 4: the last book, which is pretty cool. And right now
- 1:58Speaker 4: I'm involved with the fandom mainly just through podcasts. So
- 2:02Speaker 4: I do a podcast it Amy called Expect I put Trona,
- 2:06Speaker 4: and I also do another podcast. I produced another podcast
- 2:11Speaker 4: with Flick Miles called Behind the Wound.
- 2:14Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, interesting. Yeah, we had Flick on one
- 2:19Speaker 2: of our episodes. It was pretty early on, right, Nicole
- 2:23Speaker 2: was one of the first ones. Yeah, I had a
- 2:26Speaker 2: great time.
- 2:28Speaker 4: Yeah, she's great, and she has so much information on
- 2:30Speaker 4: behind the scenes.
- 2:32Speaker 2: Yes, that's what we love. We love digging into these
- 2:35Speaker 2: little dips of like, you know, all of these little
- 2:37Speaker 2: bits of information. I'm a huge fan of that. So
- 2:40Speaker 2: I always love just digging deep and deep diving into
- 2:44Speaker 2: all that.
- 2:46Speaker 4: Yeah, and I guess this episode's perfect for us because
- 2:48Speaker 4: film nerds.
- 2:49Speaker 1: Right here, I was gonna say, that was like a
- 2:52Speaker 1: really good segue into like what our topic is this week.
- 2:58Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, so in this episode, we are going
- 3:04Speaker 2: to be discussing Warner Brothers studio tour, the making of
- 3:07Speaker 2: Harry Potter, but first.
- 3:14Speaker 4: Listening to w W in the Wizarding Wireless Network now
- 3:19Speaker 4: for the latest headlines.
- 3:20Speaker 1: So when I was like checking the news, I was
- 3:23Speaker 1: like really shocked because we typically have a lot of
- 3:26Speaker 1: news to discuss, and I think this is the first
- 3:28Speaker 1: time in weeks, if not months, but there really hasn't
- 3:31Speaker 1: been a lot of news to report. So really the
- 3:35Speaker 1: only thing that I saw is that, you know, filming
- 3:37Speaker 1: for the HBO series is still just chuggling, chugging right along,
- 3:42Speaker 1: and we I know, a few episodes ago we talked
- 3:45Speaker 1: all about all the sneak peaks and everything that we've
- 3:47Speaker 1: gotten so far, and I've just seen a few more
- 3:50Speaker 1: kind of pop up on social media, which is always fun,
- 3:54Speaker 1: especially now. I think they're still doing some outdoor filming
- 3:57Speaker 1: right and it's like, once we kind of get done
- 3:59Speaker 1: with those outdoor space then we won't really get to
- 4:01Speaker 1: see much. So I recently saw some photos and video
- 4:07Speaker 1: of them filming the very first chapter, and you know,
- 4:11Speaker 1: as we keep talking about and sticking to Cannon, this
- 4:14Speaker 1: looks straight out of the first chapter and obviously scenes
- 4:17Speaker 1: that we did not get to see in the films,
- 4:19Speaker 1: which is exciting. So there is the witches and wizards
- 4:23Speaker 1: celebrating Baltimore's defeat. In the streets, We've got Vernon holding
- 4:28Speaker 1: his ice bun, bumping into the Wizard and the Purple Cloak.
- 4:33Speaker 1: And something else that I saw that was really cool
- 4:35Speaker 1: is in the background of that, you know, like when
- 4:38Speaker 1: Vernon's coming out of the store, there's like newspapers, uh,
- 4:42Speaker 1: you know in the back, and I saw that there
- 4:45Speaker 1: they've recreated some new original newspaper headlines from that time
- 4:50Speaker 1: period in the background in the you know, in the
- 4:52Speaker 1: Muggle world, which I think is really cool. There's one
- 4:55Speaker 1: that's like about Princess Diana, and I just think that
- 4:58Speaker 1: just the attention you know, we alway talk about attention
- 5:00Speaker 1: to detail here, so.
- 5:02Speaker 2: Mm hmmm hmm.
- 5:03Speaker 4: That's so cool, and I'm so excited that actually doing
- 5:07Speaker 4: what they said and bringing the whole book to life.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Like don't get me wrong, Like the start of the
- 5:12Speaker 4: first film was cool and just straight into it, but
- 5:17Speaker 4: that first chapter it just sort of brings you, as
- 5:21Speaker 4: I guess we.
- 5:22Speaker 5: Are Muggles into the wizzarding world.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 5:25Speaker 4: You know, it's such a unique way and so just
- 5:27Speaker 4: throwing you straight in like most fantasies due.
- 5:31Speaker 5: Sounds so excited for that.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Yeah, there's another picture that's kind of popped up I've
- 5:35Speaker 1: seen on Instagram as well that looks and it's being
- 5:38Speaker 1: speculated that it might be Jeans and Lily and you
- 5:43Speaker 1: can't see. It's like really kind of far off, so
- 5:45Speaker 1: you really can't tell. And obviously we haven't gotten a
- 5:47Speaker 1: casting announcement for them yet, but of course it doesn't
- 5:50Speaker 1: mean that they're not cast, right, But I mean we'll see.
- 5:53Speaker 1: I mean, could it be that.
- 5:55Speaker 3: We'll see a little bit more like leading.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Up into Godriig's Hollow, Like it'll be very interesting because,
- 6:00Speaker 1: like we've talked about, you have so much more time
- 6:03Speaker 1: and room to play right with the TV series. But yeah,
- 6:07Speaker 1: what are your thoughts on the TV series, Lucy, since
- 6:10Speaker 1: you're getting new to our show and we're very curious.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Oh, I'm extremely excited for it. Like just coming from
- 6:19Speaker 4: a filming perspective, like so the first God, my brain
- 6:25Speaker 4: just blamed on how many films there were?
- 6:27Speaker 5: Seven films?
- 6:29Speaker 4: Yeah, like that was they did a lot of creation
- 6:33Speaker 4: of technology just to produce those films, and just from
- 6:37Speaker 4: film one to seven, like you see the progression of film,
- 6:39Speaker 4: Like they went from shooting on film to shooting on digital,
- 6:44Speaker 4: like that is insane. And then you see Fantastic Beasts
- 6:48Speaker 4: and what they could do with CGI and how amazing
- 6:52Speaker 4: that was and how interactive that was as well, Like
- 6:55Speaker 4: I'm really excited to see the technology they can use
- 6:58Speaker 4: to bring it to life, especially with p because they
- 7:00Speaker 4: couldn't do it in the original series due to budgeting
- 7:03Speaker 4: and they didn't have the technology. And you see that
- 7:06Speaker 4: a lot with those old films, like I think Star
- 7:08Speaker 4: Wars they've reshot stuff because of the technology was eventually
- 7:11Speaker 4: created for it, And I just feel like, if they
- 7:15Speaker 4: do it correctly, it's going to be such an amazing
- 7:19Speaker 4: immersive experience. But I also feel like with them, I
- 7:25Speaker 4: hope they build all the sets, like I hope the
- 7:28Speaker 4: children get to experience all the sets like their original
- 7:31Speaker 4: cast did. Because my favorite thing from a film that
- 7:34Speaker 4: I've seen is Narnia. When they got Georgia, who played Blucy,
- 7:40Speaker 4: she didn't have a clue about the snow scene, and
- 7:43Speaker 4: you have that great behind the scene moment where she
- 7:45Speaker 4: sees it for the first time and the general reaction,
- 7:48Speaker 4: And I believe that's what happened with The Great Hall
- 7:50Speaker 4: as well. In the first film, like the kids didn't
- 7:52Speaker 4: know anything, and it's the general reactions, like, I hope
- 7:55Speaker 4: they get to still do that because especially with kids
- 7:58Speaker 4: that young, like you can't put them onto green screens
- 8:00Speaker 4: and expect them to go, there's a snake there, pretend.
- 8:07Speaker 4: But I'm really excited, like just for all those things
- 8:10Speaker 4: that we didn't get to see in the films.
- 8:13Speaker 5: I do hope that.
- 8:14Speaker 4: Maybe they do expand it a little so we do
- 8:17Speaker 4: get like maybe like a little episode on Voldemort or
- 8:19Speaker 4: like a little episode on the Founders, so we do
- 8:22Speaker 4: get a bit more information then straight out copping.
- 8:27Speaker 5: Directly what you see. So it we'll find out.
- 8:30Speaker 4: But I'm very excited for it, and I do hope
- 8:33Speaker 4: that we get all seven seasons.
- 8:37Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, And I think like to your point too,
- 8:41Speaker 1: I do get more excited every time we get these
- 8:43Speaker 1: little glimpses of filming, because everything that we've gotten, these
- 8:46Speaker 1: little glimpses of filming is like showing that, you know,
- 8:51Speaker 1: wanting to be true to the canon, and we've gotten
- 8:54Speaker 1: characters you know, that we didn't get and just even yeah,
- 8:59Speaker 1: these these photo and everything look great and they really
- 9:01Speaker 1: stuck to the witches and Wizards being very colorful like
- 9:05Speaker 1: and how they're described, you know, in the book and
- 9:07Speaker 1: really standing out in the Muggle world.
- 9:09Speaker 3: And yeah, so really excited, very excited.
- 9:15Speaker 4: Yeah. The one thing I'm surprised about, like, I know,
- 9:17Speaker 4: the books were written in the nineties, but it technically
- 9:20Speaker 4: is based in the eighties eighties.
- 9:24Speaker 1: Or is it this, Well, this part would be the
- 9:28Speaker 1: eighties and then we jump we would jump forward in
- 9:32Speaker 1: time obviously, you know, obviously when Harry then becomes like
- 9:35Speaker 1: eleven and then we're more kind of through the nineties.
- 9:37Speaker 1: But and it's like that transition I think from like
- 9:42Speaker 1: the eighties and.
- 9:43Speaker 3: Eighties, and we talked about that a lot.
- 9:44Speaker 1: When we got to finally see like their like costumes
- 9:47Speaker 1: and stuff, they're obviously very like eighties early nineties inspired.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Yeah, because I remember with the films that's more two
- 9:56Speaker 4: thousand inspired, like they tried to go for a timeless one.
- 9:59Speaker 4: So it's very cool that they're just like, no, we'll
- 10:02Speaker 4: put it in the actual era that's set.
- 10:05Speaker 1: M hm, Yes, and you can see yeah, and all
- 10:08Speaker 1: the filming too, just the costuming, the cars, like everything.
- 10:13Speaker 1: It just yeah, it feels so eighties nineties, which is great,
- 10:16Speaker 1: and I think that I think the rest of the
- 10:19Speaker 1: the rest of this series will have a timeless look
- 10:21Speaker 1: to it, but I think the Muggle world doesn't need
- 10:24Speaker 1: to have a timeless look to it because we know,
- 10:26Speaker 1: we know the time period, you know that it's in.
- 10:29Speaker 1: So yeah, I'm also glad that they're really really seem
- 10:32Speaker 1: to be playing into the eighties aesthetic there.
- 10:35Speaker 5: I cannot wait to see Dumbledore's costume.
- 10:39Speaker 4: Yes, just just give me the full own chaotic what
- 10:44Speaker 4: it is in the book.
- 10:45Speaker 1: Yes, yes, well, yeah, so we'll see and I'm sure
- 10:50Speaker 1: that well, yeah, we'll keep getting some you know clips,
- 10:53Speaker 1: and we still have more casting announcements that maybe we'll
- 10:55Speaker 1: you know, maybe we'll get maybe not. Maybe they're going
- 10:58Speaker 1: to keep other things separate to like the whole Baltimore thing.
- 11:01Speaker 1: They said they're going to keep that casting you know secret.
- 11:04Speaker 1: But yeah, I'm excited with every look that we get.
- 11:07Speaker 1: And something else that actually just saw too was speaking
- 11:12Speaker 1: of building sets. Actually, as it looks like the Hogsmead
- 11:16Speaker 1: Station set might be under construction in this like forest,
- 11:21Speaker 1: there's this thing that's popped up that looks kind of
- 11:23Speaker 1: like it could be, you know, a train platform, So
- 11:28Speaker 1: we'll see if that is and then also we recently
- 11:33Speaker 1: talked about the Hogwarts Express and then like acquiring the
- 11:36Speaker 1: train and everything, and I saw on Instagram that it's
- 11:41Speaker 1: it's been recently seen being transported on the street and
- 11:46Speaker 1: it's like in this like it honestly looks like it's
- 11:48Speaker 1: wrapped in a big like garbage bag like.
- 11:51Speaker 3: The heide it but apparently looks like why are you
- 11:56Speaker 3: right right?
- 11:57Speaker 1: And like we said, like, you know, I mean there,
- 11:59Speaker 1: does that maybe the the design whatever they're going to
- 12:01Speaker 1: paint on it is going to be like a little
- 12:03Speaker 1: different or something. But I think that would have been
- 12:05Speaker 1: really cool to have it just out on the back
- 12:07Speaker 1: of a truck like going down the road, not covered.
- 12:11Speaker 3: You know.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So yep, Yeah, definitely movements continuing to happen with the show.
- 12:17Speaker 1: But yeah, really that's all I could find for any
- 12:20Speaker 1: kind of I don't even know if that's really news.
- 12:22Speaker 3: It's just things that have popped out.
- 12:24Speaker 1: But yeah, obviously, coming off back to Hogwarts where we
- 12:27Speaker 1: kind of got a lot of news announcements, we're now
- 12:29Speaker 1: kind of I think in that that little bit of
- 12:31Speaker 1: a slow period.
- 12:32Speaker 2: But yeah, I'll pick back up.
- 12:36Speaker 3: Oh, I'm sure, I'm sure.
- 12:40Speaker 2: So for today's main discussion. We are going to be
- 12:45Speaker 2: diving into the making of Harry Potter studio tours, So
- 12:50Speaker 2: we're going to be covering everything we know about the
- 12:53Speaker 2: Warner brother Studio Tour London, and then we're going to
- 12:56Speaker 2: also be chiming in on the different other studio tour
- 13:02Speaker 2: like the japan one. And yeah, we're just going to
- 13:08Speaker 2: kick this off right away, so a little bit of
- 13:12Speaker 2: backstory on the Warner Brothers Studio Tour London. So this
- 13:16Speaker 2: obviously was constructed after the films were filmed at Leiveston.
- 13:22Speaker 2: So Leedsten began as an aircraft factory in nineteen forty,
- 13:27Speaker 2: which was later owned by the Haveland and Royals Royce,
- 13:33Speaker 2: but it was abandoned by the early nineteen nineties. So
- 13:37Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety four the site was transformed into film
- 13:40Speaker 2: stages for GoldenEye and soon became a major studio, hosting
- 13:45Speaker 2: films like Star Wars, The Phantom, Menace and Sleepy Hollow,
- 13:49Speaker 2: and from nineteen ninety one onward it served as the
- 13:52Speaker 2: home for the Harry Potter film.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Sets nineteen ninety nine.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and so filming actually began at least in studios
- 14:06Speaker 2: in two thousand. But I'm guessing all of the construction
- 14:10Speaker 2: of the sets, and everything was done pretty early on too.
- 14:14Speaker 5: Yes and no like.
- 14:15Speaker 4: According to Flick, I'm pretty sure they were still constructing
- 14:18Speaker 4: some sets as they were going because they basically had
- 14:21Speaker 4: the run of at least in studios. So I remember
- 14:24Speaker 4: her telling me. Because there was a huge runway, like
- 14:28Speaker 4: we said it was a it was a a. So
- 14:30Speaker 4: they had pretty sure studios all the way up, but
- 14:32Speaker 4: there was one that was like all the way out
- 14:34Speaker 4: the other end of the runway, so they would bring
- 14:37Speaker 4: golf carts all the way up and they were still
- 14:38Speaker 4: constructing stuff all all the time there. And she said
- 14:43Speaker 4: that they had a ball and it was a leaky,
- 14:45Speaker 4: a leaky studio. It wasn't like the studio till you
- 14:47Speaker 4: see now. Apparently it was leaking and it was cold.
- 14:52Speaker 2: Yeah. So basically, also when they started these films, they
- 14:56Speaker 2: were filming most like a lot of these scenes were
- 14:59Speaker 2: filmed on location. We didn't have like if you think
- 15:02Speaker 2: back in the first movie, we didn't have that many
- 15:05Speaker 2: sets built. So it definitely started getting more like in
- 15:09Speaker 2: studio as the film's progressed. They started finding a home
- 15:14Speaker 2: in at Leisten, so they barely used on location later on.
- 15:19Speaker 2: So this they shoot the Harry Potter films all the
- 15:23Speaker 2: way up to June of two thousand and ten, tent
- 15:26Speaker 2: sorry in June twenty ten, spanning for over ten years,
- 15:31Speaker 2: and just fun fact, as early as two thousand and one,
- 15:35Speaker 2: following the success of the first film, Warner Brothers were
- 15:39Speaker 2: putting plans in place to build an attraction dedicated to
- 15:42Speaker 2: the series, and so they began storing items from the
- 15:46Speaker 2: films when they were no longer being used. So they
- 15:49Speaker 2: weren't just you know, putting them on auction or destroying
- 15:52Speaker 2: them or you know, they were just kind of like
- 15:55Speaker 2: storing them somewhere and maybe someday they will be built again.
- 16:02Speaker 2: So in twenty ten, Warner Brothers purchased the site, so
- 16:06Speaker 2: they invested one hundred million pounds to redevelop it into
- 16:10Speaker 2: a permanent, based and public exhibition which would become the
- 16:14Speaker 2: Studio Tour. So these the sound stages. This Studio Tour
- 16:21Speaker 2: is located in two thousand sound stages, which is J
- 16:24Speaker 2: and K. So these were purpose built by Warner Brothers
- 16:28Speaker 2: during the studio's redevelopment, and they were never film stages,
- 16:33Speaker 2: but they were actually designs from scratch to hold the
- 16:36Speaker 2: permanent exhibition. So obviously once the films ended, everything was dismantled.
- 16:43Speaker 2: So like you said, Lucy, it's not the you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: the very modernized and fully equipped studio tour you see,
- 16:52Speaker 2: but it was very much more like very a lot
- 16:55Speaker 2: more rustic, i'd say, and more like yeah, like you
- 16:59Speaker 2: would think of sound on stage would look.
- 17:01Speaker 1: Like like a true studio, like yeah, yeah, yeah, which
- 17:05Speaker 1: is what you see with the Great Hole.
- 17:06Speaker 4: Like I believe Great Hole is basically where was originally.
- 17:10Speaker 4: I could be wrong, but the Great Hole was set
- 17:13Speaker 4: up as a live set to show you what it
- 17:16Speaker 4: used to look like.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Mmm mm hmm.
- 17:20Speaker 1: Good thing they had that idea to like save everything,
- 17:24Speaker 1: you know. I think that now that's more commonplace, right
- 17:28Speaker 1: for these big series because and I don't I mean,
- 17:31Speaker 1: I could be wrong, but I mean I don't know
- 17:34Speaker 1: if this was another area where like Harry Potter kind
- 17:37Speaker 1: of paved that way of like having an exhibition based
- 17:42Speaker 1: on your films and kind of because I feel like
- 17:45Speaker 1: now we see that, right with other franchises do exhibitions
- 17:49Speaker 1: of movie props. But yeah, I wonder like who kind
- 17:53Speaker 1: of made that decision or like or you know, where
- 17:55Speaker 1: did that come up, Like, hey, we should maybe save
- 17:57Speaker 1: some of this stuff because we could maybe display this
- 17:59Speaker 1: and have an exhibition at some point.
- 18:01Speaker 4: Because I wonder if it was also because they knew
- 18:04Speaker 4: they were filming the other series, so and all the
- 18:07Speaker 4: books haven't come out by that point, so I wonder
- 18:09Speaker 4: if that all also played into it.
- 18:12Speaker 1: That's true, like you don't know what you might need
- 18:14Speaker 1: again later on, like there could be something they can
- 18:16Speaker 1: need later later on.
- 18:18Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Yeah, Well, I'm glad they saved a lot of that
- 18:21Speaker 1: stuff because obviously we see a lot of places now right,
- 18:24Speaker 1: We've got so many studio tours, We've got some of
- 18:26Speaker 1: the original props in the official stores.
- 18:31Speaker 5: There's a traveling exhibition at the moment.
- 18:33Speaker 4: Mm hmm.
- 18:38Speaker 2: So the layout and design of the tour were created
- 18:41Speaker 2: by Burbank based think Well Group, working closely with Warner
- 18:45Speaker 2: Brothers and several members of the original Harry Potter filmmaking team.
- 18:50Speaker 2: So the contributors included production designer Stuart Craig, set decorator
- 18:56Speaker 2: Stephanie McMillan, creature designer Nick Duttman, construction manager Paul Haynes,
- 19:02Speaker 2: and special effects supervisor John Richardson. So obviously, of course
- 19:08Speaker 2: most of these people who worked on the films were
- 19:10Speaker 2: heavily involved in the process, and so yeah, so basically
- 19:16Speaker 2: this all came together and the Studio Tour officially opened
- 19:20Speaker 2: to the public on March thirty first, twenty twelve. Its
- 19:23Speaker 2: grand opening event was attended by many of the cast
- 19:26Speaker 2: and crew members. So you had Ruber Grant, Tom Felton,
- 19:30Speaker 2: Bonnie Ryde, Evanna Lynch, Wary Davis, and so many more
- 19:34Speaker 2: other members of the cast that were present, and it
- 19:38Speaker 2: was a yeah, it was a star studded red carpet,
- 19:42Speaker 2: and I remember watching it on live stream and it was, yeah,
- 19:47Speaker 2: it was really it was so exciting to see that
- 19:49Speaker 2: these sets were going to be available to the public,
- 19:53Speaker 2: because one of the things that you are really sad
- 19:55Speaker 2: when when a series you love or a movie that
- 19:58Speaker 2: movie franchise that you love comes to an end, is like, oh,
- 20:00Speaker 2: what's going to happen to all these things are going
- 20:02Speaker 2: to cease to exist? And knowing that they are now
- 20:05Speaker 2: they have a home to live, hopefully for many more
- 20:08Speaker 2: decades to come, is so, I don't know, it's just
- 20:11Speaker 2: so it feels really, i don't know, like reassuring, and
- 20:17Speaker 2: it just makes you feel like you're a little closer
- 20:19Speaker 2: to home and that it's always going to be there somehow.
- 20:23Speaker 5: It's like we.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Talked about last episode, right would like.
- 20:27Speaker 1: You know, obviously the last episode we talked about Stuart Craig,
- 20:30Speaker 1: and we dove a lot into production design and those
- 20:32Speaker 1: kind of like behind the scenes roles and how so
- 20:36Speaker 1: much work goes in to all aspects of the art
- 20:39Speaker 1: department and sometimes those things are seen on screen for
- 20:43Speaker 1: half a second or maybe not even fully seen on
- 20:46Speaker 1: screen because they're in the background, and just how much
- 20:49Speaker 1: work and dedication goes into making these things and exactly
- 20:54Speaker 1: what you said. I think having an exhibition like gives
- 20:57Speaker 1: a place for those items to live and to like
- 21:01Speaker 1: be seen and appreciated, you know that you might not
- 21:06Speaker 1: get in the film.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Mm hmmmm hmm. Yeah. So I was like always saying,
- 21:11Speaker 2: how lucky are we?
- 21:13Speaker 4: Yeah? What year did you guys go to the London tours?
- 21:19Speaker 3: Oh man?
- 21:21Speaker 4: Because it's changed so much in twelve years, because I
- 21:25Speaker 4: went twenty fifteen and then I went in twenty twenty
- 21:29Speaker 4: four and it had changed a lot.
- 21:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I haven't seen a lot of the new developments actually,
- 21:37Speaker 1: because I went quite a bit when I was living
- 21:41Speaker 1: in the UK. I went to grad school in Scotland
- 21:44Speaker 1: and then in England, and so I think probably the
- 21:48Speaker 1: first time I went to the studio tour probably would
- 21:50Speaker 1: have been like twenty I was living in Scotland in
- 21:53Speaker 1: twenty fourteen, so I would assume it was probably then.
- 21:57Speaker 1: And then I was in England and like twenty fifteen
- 22:01Speaker 1: twenty sixteen, so I went several times then. And then
- 22:05Speaker 1: I remember when I went, they did expand the outdoor
- 22:08Speaker 1: a lot, and they like opened private drive so that
- 22:10Speaker 1: you could go in and see it. And I remember
- 22:13Speaker 1: going like very soon after that open, and then I
- 22:15Speaker 1: like moved back to America and then they opened like
- 22:18Speaker 1: the fervid and forests and like all this other stuff,
- 22:21Speaker 1: and I've not been back and I've not seen it.
- 22:25Speaker 5: I was just sad.
- 22:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I'll get but I think they had the train
- 22:28Speaker 4: open when I first went, and I've been so jealous
- 22:31Speaker 4: because my sister's of the time got to say it
- 22:35Speaker 4: because they.
- 22:35Speaker 5: Went a couple of years later.
- 22:37Speaker 3: I can't remember when that was.
- 22:38Speaker 1: I know that I definitely was able to go into
- 22:40Speaker 1: the train that opened. I think at one of the
- 22:43Speaker 1: time periods I was there.
- 22:47Speaker 5: But well about yourself. Told when did you go?
- 22:50Speaker 2: So my first time was actually a couple of years ago,
- 22:52Speaker 2: so it was in twenty twenty four, no, twenty twenty three,
- 22:55Speaker 2: So yeah, two years ago. And I went twice because
- 23:02Speaker 2: the first time I was like, ah, it wasn't enough.
- 23:04Speaker 2: I felt like I was a little rushed, So I
- 23:05Speaker 2: went a second time and on the same trip. And
- 23:08Speaker 2: then since moving here to Ireland, I was there last month, No,
- 23:13Speaker 2: this month, actually it's almost been. Yeah, it's been like
- 23:16Speaker 2: two weeks since I was there for the Goblet of
- 23:19Speaker 2: Fire feature and yeah, there's always something new to see
- 23:23Speaker 2: and and it's so and you know, whenever you see
- 23:28Speaker 2: those doors through the Great Hall, you can't help but
- 23:30Speaker 2: getting super emotional. So it's yeah, it's great. Like I
- 23:35Speaker 2: love I love visiting. And we were talking about this
- 23:38Speaker 2: on our last episode, how different the experience is from
- 23:42Speaker 2: the theme parks because it's it's like you you still get
- 23:46Speaker 2: I don't know, it's like a different approach that your
- 23:48Speaker 2: mind has to the experience, because obviously they have they
- 23:52Speaker 2: are obviously like targeted at the same audience, but this
- 23:56Speaker 2: is more like, hey, this is how we did the
- 23:58Speaker 2: magic and this the theme Parks is hey, get immersed
- 24:02Speaker 2: in the magic and so it's something completely different. But
- 24:05Speaker 2: I think both have so much, you know, to offer.
- 24:09Speaker 2: And yeah, I just love whenever whenever I have a
- 24:12Speaker 2: time and I can go visit then yeah, and now
- 24:15Speaker 2: that I'm closer, like I want to go to all
- 24:17Speaker 2: the different events, So I'm planning to go to the
- 24:23Speaker 2: to the Dark Arts feature probably next month, and then
- 24:27Speaker 2: to the Christmas feature as well. So yeah, like I
- 24:31Speaker 2: want to take full advantage now that I'm that I'm closer.
- 24:34Speaker 4: You got it, Like there's so many events that they
- 24:36Speaker 4: put on. And I was lucky enough to see the
- 24:40Speaker 4: Hope What Since scenario twice because I went in January
- 24:43Speaker 4: and oh my god, it is gorgeous. Like when I
- 24:49Speaker 4: found out, I was going, like we'll go into London.
- 24:51Speaker 4: The second time, I was like, I wonder if hopewtsin
- 24:54Speaker 4: Snow was still going to be on And we just
- 24:56Speaker 4: got in like three days before it closed, and my
- 24:59Speaker 4: friend was just like this is beautiful, andes like, yeah,
- 25:03Speaker 4: it's the best time to see Hogwarts.
- 25:05Speaker 5: Basically, I love that.
- 25:07Speaker 3: Love that event.
- 25:07Speaker 1: I've been able to go to that one as well,
- 25:10Speaker 1: and I think, like I like when I was living
- 25:12Speaker 1: in England too. I especially wanted to take advantage because
- 25:14Speaker 1: I was like two hours on the train away from London.
- 25:17Speaker 3: So I tried to go to a lot of those
- 25:18Speaker 3: special events.
- 25:18Speaker 1: And I think, I know, I have some buttons from
- 25:21Speaker 1: going to some fifteenth and it must have been for
- 25:25Speaker 1: like Philosopher's Stone, and I've got like buttons from the
- 25:28Speaker 1: houses and they say like fifteenth anniversary and they did.
- 25:32Speaker 1: I don't remember exactly what feature they did. I think
- 25:35Speaker 1: I was I said it in one of our other episodes.
- 25:37Speaker 1: I've definitely gone during some Goblet of Fire feature as
- 25:40Speaker 1: well too, because I remember them having like the goblet
- 25:44Speaker 1: out and then demonstrating how it worked and having like
- 25:47Speaker 1: the papers come out.
- 25:51Speaker 4: All the demonstrations are amazing, Like they did demonstration how
- 25:54Speaker 4: they made the snow, how they made the footprints in
- 25:56Speaker 4: the snow.
- 25:57Speaker 3: That was cool.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I remember that. Yeah, yeah, that was like the Diagon
- 26:01Speaker 1: Alley part. I think they showed like the pressing that
- 26:04Speaker 1: I remember that.
- 26:05Speaker 4: You have to look literally everywhere because there's stuff happening
- 26:08Speaker 4: everywhere and you can walk past it and not realize.
- 26:12Speaker 5: It's just incredible.
- 26:13Speaker 2: So a little bit about the attraction. So it features
- 26:18Speaker 2: obviously authentic sets, props, and costumes that were all created
- 26:21Speaker 2: for or used directly in the Harry Potter films. So
- 26:25Speaker 2: a little bit of how this works for those of
- 26:27Speaker 2: you who are listening to who you know would like
- 26:30Speaker 2: to know how this experience is. You basically start off
- 26:35Speaker 2: by getting into this very like big lobby where you're
- 26:37Speaker 2: greeted with a huge dragon right above you. I'm forgetting
- 26:43Speaker 2: the name of the dragon.
- 26:45Speaker 4: I just I just called great dragon friend friend George,
- 26:48Speaker 4: go dragon.
- 26:53Speaker 2: And yeah, so you are. So you have your own
- 26:57Speaker 2: time slot, so you have to go into whenever you
- 27:00Speaker 2: have purchased tickets for. So once your time is your
- 27:05Speaker 2: time is coming close, you get immediately sucked into a
- 27:07Speaker 2: trip down memory lane with pictures from the films, blueprints
- 27:12Speaker 2: all plastered on the walls, and life sized pictures of
- 27:15Speaker 2: the cast, which is really cute because you can see
- 27:17Speaker 2: how they how they grew up. So you know, it
- 27:20Speaker 2: starts with it really tiny Danniel Radcliffe and it ends
- 27:23Speaker 2: up with him like twenty plus years old, and you
- 27:29Speaker 2: also get to see a section of Harry's room under
- 27:31Speaker 2: the stairs. It's actually his room under the stairs, but
- 27:34Speaker 2: the section is which is kind of like a little misleading,
- 27:38Speaker 2: just because that's also in the Harry Potter exhibition. It's
- 27:40Speaker 2: also in Harry Potter the studio tour in Ala. This
- 27:43Speaker 2: set is everywhere, so it's like you kind of start
- 27:46Speaker 2: wondering which is the real deal. So but yeah, it's
- 27:50Speaker 2: really it's really cool, cool to see all that just
- 27:53Speaker 2: at the very beginning, because it's like you're going, you know,
- 27:55Speaker 2: you're starting from the very beginning up to Daphleie Holl's
- 27:59Speaker 2: Part two. And then you are welcomed into a pre
- 28:03Speaker 2: show area, so you have these very large screens that
- 28:06Speaker 2: are style like moving portraits, and they showcase fans with
- 28:10Speaker 2: their favorite memories from the saga, and it followed by
- 28:14Speaker 2: it's followed by a video introduction about the making of
- 28:18Speaker 2: the films, and the Phelps twins appear on screen to
- 28:23Speaker 2: share a few welcoming words. They explain a little bit
- 28:27Speaker 2: about how the tour works, about how it's divided into
- 28:30Speaker 2: soundstages Jay and Kay with a backlot in the middle,
- 28:35Speaker 2: and then you also have a personal message from Jaking
- 28:38Speaker 2: Rolling herself. So yeah, it's very emotional. It's really nice.
- 28:42Speaker 2: It's just you know, kind of like prepping you for
- 28:45Speaker 2: the Grand the Grand entrance really so then you're guided
- 28:51Speaker 2: into a cinema and you watch basically behind the scenes
- 28:55Speaker 2: film which is introduced by Dan Rupert and Emma and
- 29:00Speaker 2: they reflect on their journey journeys through the through making
- 29:03Speaker 2: the the series, and and yeah, it's again, it's all
- 29:08Speaker 2: you know, it's it's it's a really great experience. It's
- 29:13Speaker 2: really nice because it's kind of, like like I said,
- 29:15Speaker 2: preparing you for that grand reveal. And it's really exciting
- 29:21Speaker 2: because when the film, when the film ends, you know,
- 29:25Speaker 2: the cinema screen rises to reveal the doors to the
- 29:28Speaker 2: Great Hall, and that is the part where you kind
- 29:33Speaker 2: of like, you know, you get that first snack of like,
- 29:36Speaker 2: you know, I made it, I'm here, and yeah, it's
- 29:39Speaker 2: so like, how do you guys, How did you guys
- 29:42Speaker 2: feel when when when you had that moment right in
- 29:45Speaker 2: front of you.
- 29:47Speaker 5: I reckon the first time.
- 29:49Speaker 4: I was just excited to be there because it was
- 29:51Speaker 4: just a dream for a long time. I don't really
- 29:56Speaker 4: remember much of the first time because it's such a
- 29:58Speaker 4: long time ago, but I remember time because I knew
- 30:00Speaker 4: what was going to happen.
- 30:01Speaker 5: I was watching my friend because she'd never been.
- 30:04Speaker 4: And she was just just the ore, Like they did
- 30:09Speaker 4: a brilliant job of introducing you into that room.
- 30:11Speaker 5: It's just cool.
- 30:13Speaker 4: And I love how you're just in a smaller group
- 30:15Speaker 4: as well, and it's just you're not filtered in in
- 30:18Speaker 4: a very large group and it's just a warm, fuzzy
- 30:21Speaker 4: feeling walking into that room.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 30:25Speaker 5: And there's always something here as well. Yeah, m h.
- 30:32Speaker 1: I think it's It's a really good way to start
- 30:33Speaker 1: the tour because like, even though it's been like over
- 30:37Speaker 1: a decade since I've been there, I remember it so clearly,
- 30:43Speaker 1: and I always get emotional with like those kind of
- 30:45Speaker 1: films where it's like looking back on things like I
- 30:48Speaker 1: just am sitting there like crying all the whole time.
- 30:50Speaker 1: And I and it's like even though I've bet I
- 30:53Speaker 1: don't even know how many times I've been now it
- 30:55Speaker 1: has to be in at least five times, but every
- 30:58Speaker 1: single time that I went, like that moment, especially watching
- 31:02Speaker 1: the film, and like you said, then like rise it,
- 31:04Speaker 1: you know, raising the screen and then the doors are there,
- 31:06Speaker 1: like that moment like never got old. Like no matter
- 31:09Speaker 1: how many times I went, it still had the same
- 31:13Speaker 1: like oh we're here.
- 31:15Speaker 2: H yeah, Yeah, it's kind of the same feeling when
- 31:20Speaker 2: you see the Hogwarts castle towering over you when you
- 31:23Speaker 2: go to hogs Meeat at one of the theme parks,
- 31:25Speaker 2: it's kind of that same feeling, like you know, getting
- 31:28Speaker 2: kind of like gobsmacked and being like wow, Like, no
- 31:31Speaker 2: matter how many times I visit, no matter how many
- 31:33Speaker 2: times you know, I do this, I'm always gonna get these,
- 31:36Speaker 2: like you said, you see these warm, fuzzy feels and
- 31:40Speaker 2: just feel at home.
- 31:41Speaker 4: Basically, yeah, I just love it like it's and it
- 31:45Speaker 4: also gives you a real idea of like it's like they,
- 31:49Speaker 4: like I said before, they really put you straight into
- 31:51Speaker 4: the film set and they have the live lights and
- 31:53Speaker 4: they talk about behind the scenes and how like if
- 31:56Speaker 4: they wanted to, they can come straight in here now
- 31:58Speaker 4: film because all set.
- 32:00Speaker 5: Up like that, and the details as well.
- 32:04Speaker 4: I remember walking in and they pointed out the demonstraying
- 32:09Speaker 4: gibbets from their sticks when they did the dance, and
- 32:12Speaker 4: they're just like, yeah, they just stayed there for the
- 32:14Speaker 4: rest of the films. It's like that is so cool.
- 32:18Speaker 2: Yes, yes, yeah, those little pieces are so so so
- 32:23Speaker 2: amazing to hear because you don't know of those I mean,
- 32:27Speaker 2: you never know it unless they tell you and lets
- 32:30Speaker 2: you know. They kind of like reveal it somehow one
- 32:31Speaker 2: of the companion books or one of the interviews or something.
- 32:34Speaker 2: So it's really cool to see all that and still
- 32:36Speaker 2: coming to light. We were discussing that the other day too,
- 32:39Speaker 2: like how much even fifteen years after the film's wrapped,
- 32:43Speaker 2: we are still discovering new bits of information and new
- 32:45Speaker 2: behind the scenes and it's still as exciting as it was.
- 32:49Speaker 4: Yeah, and all the I don't know what they call them,
- 32:52Speaker 4: but all the staff members there at the studio tour,
- 32:56Speaker 4: they are all fans of Harry Potter and they will
- 33:00Speaker 4: ask them anything. They will tell you what's going on,
- 33:03Speaker 4: they'll point out little details. It's so interactive as well,
- 33:08Speaker 4: which is incredible. And that first set really really pays
- 33:13Speaker 4: the way for the rest. Like you'd think this is
- 33:14Speaker 4: like the best set they have. They're going big from
- 33:18Speaker 4: the first bit you see, but no, it just keeps
- 33:20Speaker 4: getting better and better the more you dive in. And
- 33:26Speaker 4: I'll keep going back like it's amazing. And I remember
- 33:30Speaker 4: because I went with my mom the first time and
- 33:32Speaker 4: it was sort of our little deal. She's like, Okay,
- 33:34Speaker 4: I'll take you to this studio too, if you come
- 33:36Speaker 4: up to Scotland with me and do this family stuff.
- 33:37Speaker 4: I was like, I wanted to go to Scotland anyway,
- 33:40Speaker 4: but sure, And she was just like, oh, we don't.
- 33:45Speaker 4: Like they say you need four hours to go through
- 33:47Speaker 4: that and that was like ten years ago and you
- 33:49Speaker 4: did need it and you still do.
- 33:50Speaker 5: So be prepared. Everybody like you need at least four hours.
- 33:55Speaker 2: We went to the.
- 33:56Speaker 4: First one in the morning and I think she we
- 34:01Speaker 4: sort of got split up around the first section and
- 34:04Speaker 4: I met her out in the courtyard and she turns
- 34:05Speaker 4: to me. She's like, I'm not a Harry Potter fan.
- 34:08Speaker 4: She only made it to the fourth book because she
- 34:10Speaker 4: stopped after baltimoret returned. She's like, I can't and it
- 34:12Speaker 4: was like fair, She's like, not a Harry Potter fan,
- 34:15Speaker 4: but this is an amazing exhibition, Like it is incredible.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I thought we were just going to go in and
- 34:23Speaker 4: look at props, but no, we're seeing like they go
- 34:26Speaker 4: into so much detail about house or made and all
- 34:30Speaker 4: the interactive bits you get to see.
- 34:33Speaker 5: And she was just in awe.
- 34:35Speaker 4: And that's incredible coming from someone who is not in
- 34:38Speaker 4: the fandom, who only came because her daughter wanted to
- 34:40Speaker 4: come and to leave going this is amazing, and basically
- 34:45Speaker 4: forced my two sisters to go. When they went to
- 34:48Speaker 4: London three years later. She's like, you tube better, you
- 34:51Speaker 4: have to go to this. So they went out to
- 34:54Speaker 4: her and they had a blast as well. Not don't
- 34:58Speaker 4: and I think they've only watched the films, those two
- 35:00Speaker 4: and they loved it, Like, it's amazing how it caters
- 35:03Speaker 4: to both big fans of the films and people who
- 35:07Speaker 4: are interested in just filmmaking in general, and.
- 35:10Speaker 5: People who are just go because it's just a big attraction.
- 35:15Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 35:17Speaker 1: That's a good point too, because I think, like, you know,
- 35:19Speaker 1: comparing it to something like the theme parks, right, like
- 35:22Speaker 1: a theme park space makes a lot of sense that
- 35:24Speaker 1: you're gonna have tons of people that go there, right
- 35:26Speaker 1: that are really big fans and people that aren't, or
- 35:30Speaker 1: people that are just theme park fans. And you can
- 35:33Speaker 1: still go to you know, Universal and not be a
- 35:35Speaker 1: fan of Harry Potter and still love the Harry Potter
- 35:38Speaker 1: sections because you might just be a theme park fan.
- 35:41Speaker 1: But I think that something like the exhibition or the
- 35:44Speaker 1: studio tour sometimes might get like overlooked by you know,
- 35:49Speaker 1: just a lot of people who are not big fans
- 35:53Speaker 1: or maybe not super into like movie design. But I
- 35:57Speaker 1: do think like more people just need to like give
- 35:59Speaker 1: those things a chance.
- 36:00Speaker 3: It would be really surprised.
- 36:02Speaker 1: Because they do do a very good job at you know,
- 36:06Speaker 1: building in those interactive elements. And yeah, I don't think
- 36:11Speaker 1: you need to be a fan of Harry Potter. I think,
- 36:14Speaker 1: you know, if you're even just a fan of how
- 36:17Speaker 1: movies are made in general, this is like a tour
- 36:20Speaker 1: that you should definitely have.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 36:21Speaker 4: So my friend went with his fiance at the start
- 36:25Speaker 4: of the year and she's a huge she's huge fan,
- 36:28Speaker 4: and she's already been and she's like, I want to
- 36:30Speaker 4: go again. And he is a huge Lord the Room fan,
- 36:33Speaker 4: and he's like, oh, okay, And I was like, no,
- 36:35Speaker 4: you're gonna love it because coming from a film nerd perspective,
- 36:39Speaker 4: like we both went to film school and everything, You're
- 36:42Speaker 4: gonna absolutely love it.
- 36:43Speaker 5: And he comes out going.
- 36:44Speaker 4: I wish they did one of these for a lot
- 36:46Speaker 4: of the rings. It's like, Yeah, And when I went
- 36:51Speaker 4: to Tokyo again in twenty so, I did London in
- 36:55Speaker 4: January and then I did Tokyo in September. So sometimes
- 36:58Speaker 4: they get really mixed, stop which ones. But I went
- 37:01Speaker 4: with another friend again not a hiring pot, a fan,
- 37:04Speaker 4: but she spent four hours. I lost her. She ended
- 37:08Speaker 4: up behind me at one point because she was so
- 37:11Speaker 4: just engulfed in it all and she had the time
- 37:15Speaker 4: for life as well.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Mm hmm.
- 37:19Speaker 1: And I think every time I went, I went solo,
- 37:22Speaker 1: which also had its benefits, right because I just like
- 37:25Speaker 1: took my time and I didn't have to worry about
- 37:28Speaker 1: anyone else rushing me or like you know, not wanting
- 37:31Speaker 1: to spend the whole time. But yeah, I mean I
- 37:34Speaker 1: remember being surprised as well by how much time, like
- 37:36Speaker 1: I think I had been to I believe my first
- 37:40Speaker 1: time going to the exhibition did happen before my first.
- 37:43Speaker 3: Time going to the studio tour.
- 37:46Speaker 1: And I remember I did go to the exhibition with
- 37:48Speaker 1: a friend and we did spend a lot of time there.
- 37:51Speaker 1: But I kind of, you know, was just thinking that
- 37:54Speaker 1: the studio tour would just basically be the exhibition like
- 37:57Speaker 1: just a little bit bigger, and it's like it's totally
- 38:00Speaker 1: totally different, and you know, you really, I mean, I
- 38:03Speaker 1: feel like we've said this so much, but like you
- 38:05Speaker 1: do need a budget the time, because there is so much, Like.
- 38:09Speaker 4: I always recommend to anybody who's thinking of going, book
- 38:12Speaker 4: the first session you can so book an early morning one,
- 38:14Speaker 4: because then you had the whole day to do it. Otherwise,
- 38:16Speaker 4: if you booked the last session, you only have four hours.
- 38:19Speaker 4: And sometimes it may take you longer, sometimes it may
- 38:22Speaker 4: be shorter. But at least if your book in the
- 38:24Speaker 4: morning and you finish around midday one o'clock, you still
- 38:27Speaker 4: have the afternoon to do stuff, or otherwise you just
- 38:30Speaker 4: spend the whole day there.
- 38:31Speaker 5: Like that's what I recommend to people.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Last last time I was there, I entered like around
- 38:37Speaker 2: eleven and I left at five pm. So and I
- 38:42Speaker 2: and I felt I felt like I rushed through some
- 38:44Speaker 2: of the you know, through some of the last ones,
- 38:47Speaker 2: like and because it's there's, like you guys said, there's
- 38:50Speaker 2: so much to see and there's so many details and
- 38:53Speaker 2: with all these new like features like the well I
- 38:55Speaker 2: went when the Gobblet of Fire feature was still on,
- 38:58Speaker 2: but so there's even more to see. There are like
- 39:02Speaker 2: different yeah, like different little shows going on, and so
- 39:08Speaker 2: like it's it's yeah, there's something, always something new to
- 39:12Speaker 2: see and yeah, and like.
- 39:14Speaker 5: He said, Nicole.
- 39:15Speaker 4: Sorry, Tom, I I did the exhibition because it was
- 39:20Speaker 4: recently in Melbourne after I down the studio tours and
- 39:23Speaker 4: I got out of the exhibition going.
- 39:25Speaker 1: That's all, well, yeah, yeah, you really need to kind
- 39:29Speaker 1: of do it the other way around because then it's like, yeah,
- 39:32Speaker 1: that it's got that extra wow factor.
- 39:34Speaker 3: But no, yeah, I think that's the biggest tip.
- 39:36Speaker 1: And I know we're going to kind of continue talking
- 39:38Speaker 1: through about like you know, the rest of the tour
- 39:40Speaker 1: and everything, but yeah, that's a really good call that
- 39:43Speaker 1: you had Lucy about. Like I remember, I used to
- 39:45Speaker 1: always book the earliest morning sessions as well because you
- 39:48Speaker 1: just want to have that time. And we're going to
- 39:51Speaker 1: talk about this a little bit more and a little
- 39:53Speaker 1: bit here, but there's also like food available and at
- 39:58Speaker 1: the beginning and the halfway through the tour. There's obviously
- 40:01Speaker 1: a shop at the end, and so you really have
- 40:04Speaker 1: to think about like you're not just going to like
- 40:07Speaker 1: you know, see the sets, like you're probably going to
- 40:09Speaker 1: get food while you're there, maybe more than once. Like me,
- 40:12Speaker 1: I always got food at the you know, at the
- 40:13Speaker 1: beginning and then usually halfway.
- 40:15Speaker 3: Through, and you just you really do just need to budget,
- 40:20Speaker 3: budget that time.
- 40:21Speaker 1: I think most people would be very surprised by how
- 40:23Speaker 1: long that they would actually.
- 40:25Speaker 4: Yeah, I think recommend recommend you book out a whole
- 40:28Speaker 4: day for it, with the lackihood that you'll probably finish
- 40:32Speaker 4: around if you're booking in the morning, you'll probably finish
- 40:34Speaker 4: around midday. But just in case, book out the whole day.
- 40:39Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, I agreed. So obviously we talked about
- 40:46Speaker 2: the Great Hall being the first set. So if you
- 40:49Speaker 2: say it's your birthday, even if it isn't, they you
- 40:53Speaker 2: might get lucky enough to open the doors yourself. I'm
- 40:57Speaker 2: too shy to actually have done that. I won't with
- 41:00Speaker 2: my boyfriend. All the times I've been there, I've been
- 41:02Speaker 2: with my boyfriend and this time he was like, go ahead,
- 41:04Speaker 2: come on, go go, and I was like, no, no,
- 41:06Speaker 2: I don't want to. Like I was still because there
- 41:08Speaker 2: were also like little kids, so I wanted them to
- 41:10Speaker 2: have like their the opportunity to open the door. But
- 41:13Speaker 2: I would love to do it sometime.
- 41:15Speaker 5: I was the same.
- 41:16Speaker 4: But every time London, I find it hard. I found
- 41:18Speaker 4: it harder also because again little kids send them up
- 41:22Speaker 4: like they deserve to have this magical moment. But in Tokyo.
- 41:28Speaker 4: I couldn't understand what they were saying. I roughly knew
- 41:31Speaker 4: because of London what they were saying, but I was like,
- 41:34Speaker 4: I don't want to be that person who who accidentally
- 41:39Speaker 4: translates something wrong and ends up at the front. But
- 41:42Speaker 4: they were having a hard time getting someone to go
- 41:43Speaker 4: out the front. I think it's just because how respectful
- 41:45Speaker 4: the Japanese are, and I put my hand up like
- 41:48Speaker 4: five minutes in, going yeah, I'll do it. But I
- 41:53Speaker 4: think they convinced a little kid to go up, which
- 41:55Speaker 4: was like little kids, do it please, Like I'm happy
- 41:59Speaker 4: just to stand here just watch it.
- 42:02Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely. So obviously we talked about the Great
- 42:07Speaker 2: Hall and but you have a handful of other sets.
- 42:13Speaker 2: You walk into Dumbledore's office, the Potion's classroom, a small
- 42:18Speaker 2: portion of the Ministry, Magic Diagon Alley, the Griffin common Room,
- 42:21Speaker 2: and the boys dormitory, Hagard's Hut, Grand Gods, obviously the
- 42:27Speaker 2: one twenty four scale model of Hogward's Castle which was
- 42:30Speaker 2: used for the serior shots. And we discussed more about
- 42:35Speaker 2: some of these sets and Stewart's master contributions in our
- 42:38Speaker 2: previous episodes, So if you're interested in that, be sure
- 42:41Speaker 2: to check it out, because we did really dive deep
- 42:46Speaker 2: into that discussion and had a lot of a lot
- 42:50Speaker 2: of nice insightful things to say.
- 42:53Speaker 3: Yeah, we talked a lot about that castle.
- 42:56Speaker 5: All that castle.
- 42:58Speaker 4: Oh my god, how they the way they did that
- 43:02Speaker 4: in the tour, Like even knowing it was coming up,
- 43:06Speaker 4: it's still amazing when you turn that corner and you
- 43:08Speaker 4: hear like you hear the music a little bit as
- 43:12Speaker 4: you're going up, but just turning that corner and you're
- 43:15Speaker 4: up on the top bit and you just see this
- 43:18Speaker 4: cast when you go they that's handmade it. It never
- 43:22Speaker 4: seems to blow my mind, Like even when you know
- 43:25Speaker 4: that it's coming up, you're just like, and I think
- 43:28Speaker 4: that's that's probably the longest time. Probably the Hogwarts and
- 43:32Speaker 4: the Great Hall are the two spots that I spent
- 43:34Speaker 4: the longest time in. Obviously, the Great Hall you can't
- 43:37Speaker 4: spend that much longer because they're showing you out for
- 43:39Speaker 4: the next group. But Hogwarts I just sat there for
- 43:43Speaker 4: probably like ten to fifteen minutes just staring at it.
- 43:46Speaker 3: Yeah, like walking around the whole table, the whole angle.
- 43:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 43:51Speaker 3: Yeah, the photos are good.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Yeah, lighting in that room, right, the lighting in the
- 43:56Speaker 1: room of your photos get a lot of.
- 43:57Speaker 4: Blue computer is my friend looking at the Wholeworts Castle
- 44:03Speaker 4: in Tokyo and it's it's in the blue section.
- 44:07Speaker 5: I think it's dusk.
- 44:08Speaker 2: I really yeah, And I want to talk about that
- 44:11Speaker 2: about the model, because it's I can see by by
- 44:15Speaker 2: the photos how different, Like they are the same model,
- 44:17Speaker 2: but you can tell which one is the original and
- 44:20Speaker 2: which one is the the imitation. What was your when
- 44:23Speaker 2: you saw it?
- 44:23Speaker 4: Like, oh, yeah, I've just brought up my article I
- 44:26Speaker 4: did on Robelio.
- 44:27Speaker 5: Yeah, the phone is there, yees.
- 44:30Speaker 4: So the Tokyo one is a bit larger, if I
- 44:34Speaker 4: remember correctly, but I believe they got the same people
- 44:39Speaker 4: to come and help rebuild it.
- 44:41Speaker 5: But it is a lot larger, and it does look
- 44:43Speaker 5: a lot larger.
- 44:44Speaker 4: But it's pretty much exactly the same, how you come
- 44:47Speaker 4: in and everything.
- 44:50Speaker 5: It's just spectacular as always.
- 44:52Speaker 4: Yeah, that's all I can really say.
- 44:56Speaker 5: It's just a bit larger.
- 44:58Speaker 1: Wow.
- 44:59Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking it would be the same size
- 45:01Speaker 2: as the one in London.
- 45:03Speaker 4: I could be wrong, please fact check me, but I
- 45:07Speaker 4: believe it was a bit larger, and it does. I
- 45:10Speaker 4: don't know if it's just because maybe it's the way
- 45:13Speaker 4: they displayed it, and maybe you are a bit further
- 45:17Speaker 4: down than in London, but it does look a bit larger,
- 45:20Speaker 4: I'm not sure.
- 45:22Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I also remember the hallways like leading up to the
- 45:28Speaker 1: castle and just all the pictures on the wall, and
- 45:31Speaker 1: I feel like everybody just like rushes through those hallways.
- 45:34Speaker 2: Oh I was.
- 45:35Speaker 1: The one that looked at stopped and looked at every
- 45:38Speaker 1: picture because London.
- 45:39Speaker 2: And it's also where Stuart's yeah, and it's also where
- 45:41Speaker 2: Stuart Craig's little spot is, so you get a lot
- 45:46Speaker 2: of you know, and that's where people start rushing and
- 45:48Speaker 2: it's like you have to, you know, just take your
- 45:50Speaker 2: moment because it's so precious.
- 45:53Speaker 4: Those concept arts are just gorgeous. Yes, because in Tokyo
- 45:58Speaker 4: you're walking up.
- 46:01Speaker 5: Like I remember, there's a birty box every fly.
- 46:03Speaker 4: With beings, big bing thing and it's oh so that
- 46:07Speaker 4: that things. So it's completely different than in London. It's
- 46:10Speaker 4: more colorful. I'll try and find a photo for you
- 46:13Speaker 4: guys of it. And there was a display on one side.
- 46:18Speaker 4: I think it was all the graphics maybe, but yeah,
- 46:22Speaker 4: it was a lot more colorful and yeah.
- 46:27Speaker 2: Hm hmmm. It's good because it makes them different too,
- 46:30Speaker 2: like it makes it worthwhile visiting not just one, but well,
- 46:33Speaker 2: we're going to get into a little bit more about
- 46:36Speaker 2: the things that you noticed in one and not in
- 46:38Speaker 2: the other. But I like, I like when things offer
- 46:41Speaker 2: a unique perspective or something that you know that stands
- 46:45Speaker 2: on its own. So that's very appreciated.
- 46:48Speaker 1: It makes it worth right going to both and not
- 46:51Speaker 1: knowing that, like you know, yes, you can say, okay,
- 46:54Speaker 1: I've went to both. And obviously the merch is going
- 46:56Speaker 1: to have like London versus Tokyo and all that kind
- 46:58Speaker 1: of stuff, right, but it's not when it's like we
- 47:00Speaker 1: don't just have an exact replica.
- 47:02Speaker 4: Well, expecting about it to be very the same, and
- 47:07Speaker 4: I was shocked, and we can talk about lighter, but
- 47:09Speaker 4: I was very shocked how different they were.
- 47:12Speaker 2: Wow. So well, obviously we discussed this already. We were
- 47:18Speaker 2: talking about the tour is massive. You might be underestimating
- 47:22Speaker 2: how big it is. So if you're a hardcore fan,
- 47:25Speaker 2: just like we said, expectatively spend five or six hours
- 47:28Speaker 2: walking through the sets, taking pictures and dining. And speaking
- 47:33Speaker 2: of dining, the studio tour offers a wide range of
- 47:36Speaker 2: dining options, So I think the most recognizable one is
- 47:40Speaker 2: the Backlock Cafe, which is the main food spot, and
- 47:43Speaker 2: I think it's very conveniently located because it's just in
- 47:46Speaker 2: the middle of the tour when you're exiting one of
- 47:49Speaker 2: the sound stages, right, it's the connection between the backlot
- 47:53Speaker 2: and both sound stages, and it's a perfect moment to
- 47:57Speaker 2: take a break, enjoy burgers, fish and chips, hot dogs, snacks.
- 48:01Speaker 2: And it's also obviously famous for serving butter beer and
- 48:04Speaker 2: butter beer ice cream.
- 48:06Speaker 5: I ever tried butter beer?
- 48:09Speaker 4: Me too, Yeah, my first trip Moms is like and
- 48:14Speaker 4: there's a picture of me with the butterbeer mustache.
- 48:19Speaker 2: Yeah, mine was at Wizarding World. So interesting. And what's
- 48:26Speaker 2: nice about this Backlock Cafe is that it has like
- 48:29Speaker 2: a lot of images from the behind the scenes and
- 48:32Speaker 2: it's everything is so beautifully decorated that you not once like,
- 48:38Speaker 2: even though we talk about how it's all behind the scenes,
- 48:40Speaker 2: it's still very fully immersive, so it's always like very
- 48:44Speaker 2: grounded in what you know, what these films represent. And
- 48:50Speaker 2: it's just a great, great and obviously there's music playing
- 48:54Speaker 2: the soundtracks and uh, it's it's beautiful really, but yeah,
- 48:58Speaker 2: it's a good place to just take a little break,
- 49:00Speaker 2: sip of butter beer and just keep going. And you
- 49:05Speaker 2: also have the Frog Cafe, which is at the entrance
- 49:08Speaker 2: or exit area, depending on how you look at it,
- 49:11Speaker 2: because it's in the main lobby of the tour so
- 49:15Speaker 2: and yeah, again it offers theme treats like frog copcakes
- 49:19Speaker 2: and hot chocolates and a wide range of cakes which
- 49:23Speaker 2: are expertly handcrafted by their team of on site patty sears.
- 49:28Speaker 2: I'm not sure that's the correct pronunciation, but let's go
- 49:31Speaker 2: with that. And yeah, you also have another option, which
- 49:36Speaker 2: is a hub Cafe and butter Beer bar, which again
- 49:39Speaker 2: are perfect places to enjoy sip of butter beer or coffee.
- 49:42Speaker 2: So again you're pretty much covered when it comes to
- 49:45Speaker 2: dining options, because I think that has more than enough options.
- 49:49Speaker 2: And yeah, it's it's actually I had this last time
- 49:54Speaker 2: I went. I had the Happy Birthday Hary ice cream,
- 49:59Speaker 2: which is very pecu because it was literally it was
- 50:03Speaker 2: basically a sponge cake covered with strawberry like creamy strawberry
- 50:11Speaker 2: ice cream. So that was interesting and I think I'm
- 50:16Speaker 2: not sure if it's a permanent thing or they added
- 50:18Speaker 2: that for Harry's birthday. I think it's a limited but yeah,
- 50:22Speaker 2: I'm not sure, but yeah, there's.
- 50:27Speaker 3: Definitely not any of the food i'v e in there
- 50:29Speaker 3: because it was so long.
- 50:30Speaker 1: It's really good, really good, I remember being really good.
- 50:36Speaker 1: But yeah, like Lucy said, this was definitely the first
- 50:38Speaker 1: place I ever had butter beer because I went here
- 50:41Speaker 1: many years before I went to the theme park for the
- 50:43Speaker 1: first time.
- 50:45Speaker 4: Yeah, sig, Like, the first time I went to the
- 50:47Speaker 4: Fame Pack was twenty twinty two, so obviously ever a
- 50:50Speaker 4: decade later.
- 50:52Speaker 2: Yeah, well, yeah, I think I really took it took
- 50:58Speaker 2: me a long time to visit the studio tour. I
- 51:01Speaker 2: went multiple times to the theme parks before I ever
- 51:04Speaker 2: stepped a step foot into the studio tour, so it
- 51:10Speaker 2: had been really long time coming for me. I was
- 51:13Speaker 2: so excited when I when I got to see I
- 51:15Speaker 2: just remember wanting to go to London just to just
- 51:17Speaker 2: to go. I wanted to do Scotland, go to the
- 51:21Speaker 2: Scottish Highlands and just do the studio tour. And I've
- 51:23Speaker 2: been wanting that for so long that it really felt
- 51:26Speaker 2: like a dream contruy when when it finally happened.
- 51:29Speaker 1: See, this is how I feel about Tokyo now right,
- 51:32Speaker 1: Like I feel like I should be wanting to, like
- 51:35Speaker 1: you know, go to Japan to like experience Japan, which
- 51:38Speaker 1: I do want to, but like I already know that
- 51:41Speaker 1: like when I eventually get there, like my trips to
- 51:44Speaker 1: Japan are going to be very pop culture based because
- 51:49Speaker 1: like I have to do the Harry Potter stuff. I
- 51:52Speaker 1: have to do Disney like you know, and it's just
- 51:55Speaker 1: like that's actually more of a priority for me than
- 51:58Speaker 1: like seeing the country. And I'm like, gosh, that sounds terrible,
- 52:01Speaker 1: but I think, like, you know, I think we get
- 52:03Speaker 1: it right because that is that is a priority.
- 52:05Speaker 3: But I always think of how ironic. Yeah, go ahead.
- 52:08Speaker 5: Oh, I was gonna say.
- 52:09Speaker 4: If you can like balance it, like we spent four
- 52:11Speaker 4: weeks into pair yeah, and yeah, we of course went
- 52:14Speaker 4: to all the big tourist destinations and then we did
- 52:18Speaker 4: do Growths Disneylands, and we did the Universal and we
- 52:22Speaker 4: did the.
- 52:23Speaker 5: Higher flights too too, Like if you find a good balance.
- 52:25Speaker 4: Also, a lot of that's in Tokyo, so it's a
- 52:28Speaker 4: lot easier to do.
- 52:31Speaker 3: That's what I was gonna say.
- 52:32Speaker 1: Yeah, you kind of have to, especially when it's you know,
- 52:35Speaker 1: I mean for me to go to Tokyo is a
- 52:36Speaker 1: pretty long distance and so I do feel like it's
- 52:40Speaker 1: that's kind of like what I'm saving up is to
- 52:42Speaker 1: be able to do like this bigger trip that can
- 52:44Speaker 1: kind of have all the key things in one trip,
- 52:47Speaker 1: just in case I never get the chance to, you know,
- 52:50Speaker 1: go again.
- 52:51Speaker 2: Mm hmmm. Because we keep joking about it when on
- 52:54Speaker 2: the on the podcast, we we we say that there's
- 52:57Speaker 2: more Harry Potter experiences in Japan itself. Then you have
- 53:02Speaker 2: scattered across the US and UK, and we we keep
- 53:06Speaker 2: saying we're going to do a trip down the line.
- 53:10Speaker 2: Probably I'll be there.
- 53:13Speaker 4: I will go back to Japan the heartbeat, Like I
- 53:15Speaker 4: still think about the at the airport on the last day.
- 53:20Speaker 3: I want to go to Japan so bad me too. Yeah,
- 53:23Speaker 3: it's just it's just planning, it's just planning it.
- 53:25Speaker 5: But one day.
- 53:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 53:29Speaker 2: Yeah. So we already covered some of the dining options,
- 53:36Speaker 2: some of the sets that you can see, but not
- 53:40Speaker 2: all of the sets were always there from the very beginning.
- 53:43Speaker 2: So obviously the tour as it became bigger and more popular,
- 53:48Speaker 2: started getting a lot more traction and started getting obviously
- 53:51Speaker 2: you need to you know, you need to refurbish it.
- 53:55Speaker 2: Every now and then you need to add new experiences,
- 53:58Speaker 2: so they have done that and quite a few of them.
- 54:01Speaker 2: So the first one was Platform nine and three quarters
- 54:04Speaker 2: in twenty fifteen, so they introduced a full section featuring
- 54:09Speaker 2: the Howards Express steam locomotive, the Alton Hall and the
- 54:12Speaker 2: original train carriages. And it was built by the same
- 54:16Speaker 2: crew who worked on the films, including Stuart Craig, and
- 54:18Speaker 2: we also discussed this a little bit in our previous episode.
- 54:22Speaker 2: And again it includes a green screen experience, so it
- 54:26Speaker 2: lets visitors simulate boarding the train, which is very fun.
- 54:29Speaker 2: And I wish they had that in the New York
- 54:32Speaker 2: Shop because yeah, I think it's a lot. I don't know.
- 54:37Speaker 2: I think it's I think it's it looks better, the
- 54:40Speaker 2: final result looks better than the broom stick experience like
- 54:44Speaker 2: that one is fun, but when you see the final cut,
- 54:46Speaker 2: it's a little you know, it's not it's not really
- 54:49Speaker 2: you can tell it's you know, it's it's a green screen,
- 54:52Speaker 2: So yeah, it's it's it's a great, great little experience.
- 54:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I didn't get I didn't do that experience well
- 55:02Speaker 4: the first time. It wasn't there at the tour and
- 55:04Speaker 4: then the second time, I think my friend and I
- 55:06Speaker 4: both looked at each other went.
- 55:07Speaker 5: No, my good, it was cute. It's cute.
- 55:13Speaker 1: Yeah. We talked about it a little bit in our
- 55:14Speaker 1: last episode, and I was talking about how I like
- 55:17Speaker 1: really distinctly remember like walking through the train and seeing
- 55:21Speaker 1: like they have like it's set up like a couple
- 55:23Speaker 1: different scenes, and I remember like at the end, like
- 55:26Speaker 1: you've got these like dummy models that are addressed as.
- 55:29Speaker 3: Harry and Ron and they're sitting on the.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Chair with all the candy around and that just for
- 55:35Speaker 1: some reason, that particular piece of the studio tour is
- 55:38Speaker 1: like very ingrained in my brain.
- 55:41Speaker 3: But yeah, so I definitely must have. I definitely remember this.
- 55:44Speaker 1: Looking at the list and the other ones we're going
- 55:46Speaker 1: to talk about is really making me like, wow, I
- 55:48Speaker 1: have to get back to the studio tour because other
- 55:51Speaker 1: than Platform nine and three quarters, all of these other
- 55:53Speaker 1: editions have happened after I have been there.
- 55:56Speaker 4: Yeah, well, Platform nical clothes happened I think just after
- 55:58Speaker 4: I went, well they just now sit after I went
- 56:00Speaker 4: I was like seriously, yeah, so yeah saying that around
- 56:05Speaker 4: them the the again walking around the corner and saying
- 56:08Speaker 4: this train in front of you, and it's.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Like the actual train. It's the actual train that they
- 56:15Speaker 2: used for you know, when they did the drone shots.
- 56:17Speaker 2: Whenever that you see that, that's the that's the locomotive
- 56:21Speaker 2: that they use for the film. So it makes it
- 56:23Speaker 2: a lot more like Yeah, it makes it a lot
- 56:25Speaker 2: more like personal I think, like more fuzzy, I think,
- 56:29Speaker 2: and nice and warm, and it's kind of like you
- 56:32Speaker 2: you know, it's the real thing. It's a real deal.
- 56:33Speaker 2: And that's what I love about this tour. We're going
- 56:36Speaker 2: to discuss some of the things because not everything is
- 56:40Speaker 2: the actual set. But the good part is that whenever
- 56:45Speaker 2: you ask one of the interactors, they will be fully
- 56:47Speaker 2: transparent with you, and if it's not the real deal,
- 56:49Speaker 2: they're going to be like, no, this is actually a
- 56:51Speaker 2: replica or this is you know, but they always you
- 56:54Speaker 2: always know whenever it's a real actual piece of the
- 56:58Speaker 2: set or when it's the actual train, which is this case,
- 57:01Speaker 2: and it's just amazing.
- 57:04Speaker 5: I love that you can go in the train.
- 57:06Speaker 4: Like they could have said to that, but you can
- 57:10Speaker 4: go in and it's it's amazing just walking through a
- 57:12Speaker 4: train like that. It's just they've done so much Yeah.
- 57:18Speaker 2: The only thing I don't like, it's natural that it's
- 57:20Speaker 2: a little clogged in there, so and you have such
- 57:23Speaker 2: little yeah, and you have such little time to just
- 57:26Speaker 2: you know, like breathe it in because you're just walking
- 57:29Speaker 2: through it. It's like this.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Behind you, like you can't you have to keep moving
- 57:35Speaker 1: because there's so many people coming in.
- 57:36Speaker 2: Behind it because it's so narrow. Yeah, exactly.
- 57:39Speaker 4: And I feel like that's a big difference between London
- 57:41Speaker 4: and Tokyo because Tokyo, I felt there was not.
- 57:44Speaker 5: Many crowd, Like the crowd was very small.
- 57:48Speaker 4: And I feel like because everybody goes to London like
- 57:50Speaker 4: it's the original, and Tokyo only just was open for
- 57:54Speaker 4: a year by the time we went, so it was
- 57:56Speaker 4: still fairly new. But I remember walking through that try
- 58:00Speaker 4: and going we took our time. We're looking at every
- 58:03Speaker 4: set and I think there's a picture of us and
- 58:06Speaker 4: we're the only one on the platform, like one of
- 58:10Speaker 4: few people on that platform. Yeah.
- 58:13Speaker 3: Yeah, that definitely was not my experience in London.
- 58:16Speaker 5: Yeah, London was complete.
- 58:17Speaker 2: London was also culture, right, like very different. Culture is
- 58:21Speaker 2: very different. So so yeah, that's good because maybe for
- 58:25Speaker 2: photo ops it might be a better you know, it
- 58:29Speaker 2: might be a better choice to do that at the
- 58:31Speaker 2: Japan Studio Tour, just because it feels like, based on
- 58:35Speaker 2: what you're saying, Lucy, like you have more time to
- 58:37Speaker 2: just you know, pose for pictures and just take your
- 58:39Speaker 2: time and it's not as crowded.
- 58:42Speaker 4: Yeah. And the other thing is the Tokyo one is
- 58:44Speaker 4: built on an old theme park site, so they specifically
- 58:48Speaker 4: built it there so they had more room. And going
- 58:51Speaker 4: from London, they knew how big to make areas, so
- 58:55Speaker 4: I feel like a lot of the areas are a
- 58:56Speaker 4: larger so it's easier for people to spread out as well.
- 59:03Speaker 4: Like the back lot in Tokyo is huge, like they
- 59:05Speaker 4: have they set up the whole chess board. Wow, it's yeah,
- 59:10Speaker 4: there's just pictures of my friend just prising with all
- 59:12Speaker 4: the chess pieces, where.
- 59:15Speaker 3: London just has like the chess pieces like tucked away
- 59:18Speaker 3: kind of.
- 59:18Speaker 5: Yeah. And the bridge yeah yeah, the bridge bridge is full.
- 59:23Speaker 2: It's full.
- 59:24Speaker 4: Oh, I know there's a video of my friend and
- 59:25Speaker 4: I running along the bridge and we're the other ones
- 59:27Speaker 4: on the bridge.
- 59:28Speaker 2: Sorry, that's yeah. And I love how it has like
- 59:33Speaker 2: the entrance and the entrance to the bridge too, which
- 59:36Speaker 2: is not at the Warner Brother Studio tour in London.
- 59:39Speaker 2: So I love I love the fact that it has
- 59:42Speaker 2: things that the other doesn't just makes it a lot
- 59:44Speaker 2: more worthwhile, I think. Okay, So, speaking of these different
- 59:52Speaker 2: additions we have, in twenty seventeen, the Forbidden Forest was introduced.
- 59:56Speaker 2: It's a walkthrough area recreating the four scenes from the films.
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: So it features large scale trees, magical creatures and animatronics
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: such as Buckbeak, the Hippogrif and Ergo the agromantula. And
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: again it's a it was cool cool addition too.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: This was so cool, like walking in and the spider
- 1:00:18Speaker 4: is dropped down, so if you're afraid of that, you
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: can skip it.
- 1:00:23Speaker 5: They tell you very on you can skip it.
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: And there's areas where if you get halfway through you
- 1:00:28Speaker 4: can dip out quickly.
- 1:00:29Speaker 5: So don't don't worry about that.
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: They were very cautious in that, but oh so cool,
- 1:00:35Speaker 4: like they have a lightning spies going down, they have
- 1:00:38Speaker 4: Buckbeak in there bowing, and then I'm just gonna make
- 1:00:43Speaker 4: comparisons hit very like all the time with Japan.
- 1:00:46Speaker 5: Japan.
- 1:00:48Speaker 4: Japan made their Forbidden Forest is huge, and they also
- 1:00:53Speaker 4: included the Patrona's experience in it. It was amazing, Like
- 1:00:59Speaker 4: I think it was like double the size and it
- 1:01:01Speaker 4: just kept winding. And there's also like bits like you
- 1:01:03Speaker 4: can go like under trees and then pop.
- 1:01:05Speaker 5: Out somewhere else.
- 1:01:06Speaker 4: It's like little shortcuts and oh you could get.
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: Lost in there.
- 1:01:11Speaker 2: Wow. Nice because in the London one is kind of
- 1:01:14Speaker 2: like a one way only, like there's not much like
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: you can't venture into any forest or anything, so it's
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: kind of like either he goes this way, you go
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: this way. It's like a you know, linear Yeah, it's
- 1:01:26Speaker 2: very very linear. So that's cool. And also I think
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: technology obviously has gotten a lot more advanced, so I
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: think that really opens up to having these more immersive
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: experiences as well.
- 1:01:39Speaker 4: Yeah, and also the big thing with Tokyo is that
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: they say, like you can tell from the beginning, they're
- 1:01:45Speaker 4: just like, we are not London. We don't have the
- 1:01:46Speaker 4: original sets. Everything is built for this tour. So a
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: lot of the sets you can go into, so you
- 1:01:53Speaker 4: can go into the protion lab and pretend you're making
- 1:01:56Speaker 4: a potionent, you can go into the defense classroom and
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: make a defense class like it's a very much interactive.
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: We did a whole quidditche.
- 1:02:04Speaker 4: Game, like when we're reacting doing the green Skin like
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: it's very very interactive, which is really cool. And they
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: added like extra bits as well, like you can see
- 1:02:16Speaker 4: behind the scene, like behind Dumbledore's office you can see
- 1:02:19Speaker 4: these little.
- 1:02:22Speaker 5: Living room underneath, which is so cool. They added like
- 1:02:27Speaker 5: the real requirement and all the They're.
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Just like we had so many props, we just added
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: them in and we just made a room requirement. It's like, yeah,
- 1:02:35Speaker 4: that's what they did in the films.
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: Are they are they also actual props?
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: I believe So I believe a lot of them are.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: And some of them you look at them like they
- 1:02:44Speaker 4: have they had rowing ores and it's like, hope, what's
- 1:02:46Speaker 4: had a rowing team?
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: So so yeah, after the forbidding sporest in two thousand
- 1:02:58Speaker 2: and nine, they opened Green Got's Wizards Bank, which is
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: their largest expansion to date, so sixteen five hundred square feet.
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: It's is huge. Visitors can't walk through the marble the
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: marble pillar banking hall with crystal chandeliers and gobbling desks.
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: It includes the list range vault with their treasures, and
- 1:03:22Speaker 2: a dramatic dragon destruction sequence created with visual and special effects.
- 1:03:26Speaker 2: So there's the set on the one hand, and then
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: as you move forward there's another with its screen. It's
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: just like a section of the set destroyed. And again
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: speaking of yeah, and speaking of these sets, this wasn't
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: the actual set, so it was actually something that they
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: had to do for a scratch because, as they said,
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: the set was destroyed because of what plays out in
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: definitely Hall's Part two. So so yeah, but it's massive,
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: it's I think it's it's it's huge. I don't know
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: if it's even I dare say it might be almost
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: the same as the Great Hole.
- 1:04:07Speaker 5: Yeah, it's pretty big, very big.
- 1:04:09Speaker 4: And they don't have this in Tokyo, I believe. I
- 1:04:11Speaker 4: don't remember it in Tokyo. And I just looked through
- 1:04:14Speaker 4: the book and I couldn't see it. So I'm pretty
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: sure this sounds an exclusive to London.
- 1:04:18Speaker 2: M hm.
- 1:04:19Speaker 5: And but oh yeah, it feels incredible, which say that
- 1:04:23Speaker 5: all the time. It's incredible, yes.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: Yes, and especially the sequence with the dragon blowing you know,
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: fire and just it's so good. It feels it feels
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: very much Wizarding World like, it feels very much like
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: from the theme pres that little bit.
- 1:04:38Speaker 4: It Also, I don't know if I was just remembering
- 1:04:41Speaker 4: it wrong.
- 1:04:42Speaker 5: But it reminds me a lot of the Green Gorots ride.
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: M h.
- 1:04:47Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:04:48Speaker 5: Yeah, grand scale and everything. It's pretty cool.
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: Yeah. And the again, the details like everything you see
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: every the little cards and the deaths and like, oh,
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: it's so good and it's actually walked through, so you
- 1:05:01Speaker 2: can actually enter that set unlike because like you said, Lucy,
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: it makes sense because if it's not the actual set,
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: it's not going to be behind bars because the potion
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: said you know, you cannot enter. You cannot enter the
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: boys dormitory or the griffindor common room. There's a little
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: section of the glittering common room as well. I think
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Japan has the full set.
- 1:05:23Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, we we sat on the slittering couches in
- 1:05:27Speaker 4: the common room. It was weird, but like you hit,
- 1:05:31Speaker 4: like we'll going up and like touching like all the stuff.
- 1:05:34Speaker 5: It's really cool.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: But yeah, basically in London, if it's behind bars, it's
- 1:05:38Speaker 4: most likely the original set.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Mm hmm yeah, or behind a crystal everything that is
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: kind of like behind a crystal box or something like,
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: it's always going to be the prop. Everything you can
- 1:05:50Speaker 2: touch is not a prop basically. So yeah, interesting, interesting,
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: to hear that, because I didn't know they were like
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: they were all Now that you say it makes sense
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: because I've seen pictures of the Defense against the Dark
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: Arts class and it's actually a walk a walk through
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: set so you can actually enter it. And it's one
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: of my favorite sets by the way.
- 1:06:11Speaker 5: Yeah, I wonder how.
- 1:06:14Speaker 4: Because I didn't yet to see that set in London,
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: but I wonder how similar it is to the Taikyo one.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: So, yeah, the Defense Against Dark Arts Class, it's very small,
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: it's just a little section and it's not the original.
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: Well we're going to talk about this in a bit, but.
- 1:06:38Speaker 5: Yeah, but we can circle back around to it.
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: Yes, we can circle back around to it, but just
- 1:06:44Speaker 2: to wrap up the expansion. So in twenty twenty two
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: we had Professor Sprouts Greenhouse which was part as part
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: of the Mandricks and Magical Creatures feature. And it's obviously
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: the Greenhouse with pott Man Rakes and it's where bis
- 1:07:01Speaker 2: you know, Bizzard can pull them from they can pull
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: them out and seen in the Chamber of Secrets. It's
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: very it's very similar to the one in l A
- 1:07:09Speaker 2: and the studio to were in l A. And yeah,
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: and it's as you know this this the greenhouse was added.
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: They also had other Sei sets, which were the Fountain,
- 1:07:24Speaker 2: the Fountain, the fountain from the Hogwarts courtyard, and a
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: one three scale version of the Weasleys borrow. And yeah,
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: those are pretty cool, but again the fountain is not
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: the actual one, so they.
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: Don't think the burrow is either because I remember correctly
- 1:07:43Speaker 4: they lit that up on fire.
- 1:07:48Speaker 5: The bars, I don't think the originally.
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: Though, And also it makes sense because these we have
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: to think these are you know, they have to be
- 1:07:57Speaker 2: very made out of very resistent material because it's raining
- 1:08:01Speaker 2: a lot of the time, and it's out in the
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: you know, it's in the exterior, like there's nothing covering them.
- 1:08:08Speaker 2: So obviously the bridge is the real set, but it's
- 1:08:13Speaker 2: you know, it's an exterior. It's an exterior set. So
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: they have to either be I don't know if yeah,
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: redone with different materials, so it's obviously not it's obviously
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: not the same. But yeah, that was also quite interesting
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: to hear. And last but not least, the Divination and
- 1:08:35Speaker 2: Defense against the Dark Arts sections in twenty twenty four
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: as part as their Return to Azkaban feature which celebrated
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: twenty years of the Prisoner of Azkaban and it includes
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: the section of the defense against the Dark Arts classroom
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: complete with the buggered wardrobe and the Divination classroom. So
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: I didn't get to see, uh, I don't think the
- 1:08:54Speaker 2: bugger wardrobe was there when I when I went there
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago. And then obviously you also
- 1:09:04Speaker 2: have a section of the Divination classroom and yeah there
- 1:09:09Speaker 2: it's it's cool because you have a lot of interactive
- 1:09:11Speaker 2: elements as well, so you get one choreography lessons from
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: the interactors, which is a lot of fun. I tried
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: it myself this time, and yeah, you get to come
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: face to face with a death theater and Nicole.
- 1:09:24Speaker 4: So yeah, that's the same in Toko. Like you you're
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: learning a skull to defeat the deafeats that come in.
- 1:09:30Speaker 5: It's the classroom. Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 1:09:33Speaker 4: They don't have the divination I don't remember they had
- 1:09:35Speaker 4: divination classroom, but the defense was pretty cool.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, I love the one in Tokyo from what
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: I've seen in pictures because it, you know, it looks
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: like the full thing, like the real like it's not
- 1:09:48Speaker 2: the real set, but it feels like it is like it.
- 1:09:51Speaker 5: Feels very much like the real set.
- 1:09:54Speaker 4: Yeah, like they had the classic I think it's a
- 1:09:56Speaker 4: dragon skeleton on the on the roof and the deaf
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: it comes out from the defense office at the top
- 1:10:03Speaker 4: of the stairs.
- 1:10:04Speaker 5: Yeah, it's all amazing interactive mm hmm.
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: Yeah, Yeah, that's what I love about it. It's not
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: just so it has That's why I say sometimes I
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: compare it a lot to the Wizarding World theme parks
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: because it has those interactive elements, either death theaters or
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: well here, when I went to the Goblet of Fire feature,
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: we had Barbaton's and Derm staring students coming in and
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: it's you know, there are shows and there are things,
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: and it's it's a lot of fun really, And I
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: think that also adds to the amount of time that
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: you spend there. Obviously, the more the more of these
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: shows you have, the more time you're going to spend,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: especially if.
- 1:10:41Speaker 4: You're going during like a specific event, because they have
- 1:10:44Speaker 4: a lot more stuff going on at the specific events.
- 1:10:48Speaker 4: But Tokyo in general, everything we saw, I'm pretty sure
- 1:10:51Speaker 4: they do every single day mm.
- 1:10:53Speaker 5: Hmmm, which is a lot.
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: I think we spent more time in Tokyo one than
- 1:10:57Speaker 4: we did in London one because there was just so
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: much interaction.
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: You could do, and they repeat it so like it's
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: very cyclical, so it happens every like ten or fifteen minutes.
- 1:11:07Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah, So the Defense one, they finished one session
- 1:11:10Speaker 4: and then.
- 1:11:11Speaker 5: Two minutes later will to the next one.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: Yeah, like that, we weren't waiting long and the lines
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: there was no line.
- 1:11:20Speaker 5: As soon as we hopped in the line, worean the
- 1:11:22Speaker 5: next group in.
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: Again we went first thing in the morning, so that
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: could have played a part as well.
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: So yeah, so I just wanted to mention a few
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: fun facts about the tour itself. So as we were
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: talking about circling back to the Defense against the Dark
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: art section, it's not an actual set from the Harry
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: Potter films but from Fantastic be and Where to find
- 1:11:47Speaker 2: them The Crimes of Grindewald. So yeah, that's that's quite interesting.
- 1:11:53Speaker 2: They have no idea where the actual sets are stored.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: They say it's in a very secret location they don't
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: even know, So who knows where they.
- 1:12:01Speaker 5: Are actually bringing them back out for the TV show?
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Yeah I don't. Yeah, probably tumult like that. I mean, yeah,
- 1:12:09Speaker 2: I have a hope, but.
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of want them to make like news
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: sets and stuff. But if they're saying.
- 1:12:15Speaker 5: That they can't bring them out for the London studio tour.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Like, I think it's not so much they don't want
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: to or they don't they can't, but you know, maybe
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: they're just saving it because obviously they need to keep
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: expanding it and there are going to be more anniversaries
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: coming up and there you know, there's a lot of
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: sets that haven't been brought back, so they also must
- 1:12:34Speaker 2: you know, I imagine they could be saving it for
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: you know, the next few years as well. So yeah,
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: I mean, well, I guess we're gonna have to wait
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: and see. But yeah, so even though most of the
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: sets are original, some of them are replicas, so the
- 1:12:52Speaker 2: interior of the Dursley's home and gring Gods, they're not
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: the actual sets. And I know, if i'm fact is
- 1:13:00Speaker 2: that over seventeen thousand and one boxes were created for
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: the Olivander set, each individually labeled with names of the
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: cast and crew as a tribute. So if you just
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: peek there and into the boxes, you're going to see
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: either someone from the cast or the crew. I don't
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: know if they have that in Japan too, they do.
- 1:13:20Speaker 4: So the cool thing about this is it's the last
- 1:13:22Speaker 4: thing you see on the tour before you go into
- 1:13:24Speaker 4: the gift shop, so it's after hogwards and it's really
- 1:13:26Speaker 4: cool because so like you're watching the credits to a
- 1:13:28Speaker 4: film and they do have every single person there. I
- 1:13:32Speaker 4: thought when we got to Japan and we got to
- 1:13:34Speaker 4: that section, they only had the main casting crew.
- 1:13:37Speaker 5: But I asked because I was like, I gotta find.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: Flick, and they had her, so we pretty much assume
- 1:13:44Speaker 4: that they had every single person and she was very
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: surprised that she was in Tokyo. And another fun fact
- 1:13:50Speaker 4: is when I went in twenty fifteen, I took a
- 1:13:52Speaker 4: random photo of the ones and it so happened to
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: be Flick's one, just in the corner because I was like, hey,
- 1:14:01Speaker 4: I remember that photo. I've finished, and I zoomed and
- 1:14:04Speaker 4: I was like, vision name, I'll random.
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: You guys were destined to work toge.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, that's cool. So and the Forbidden Forest expansion,
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: the animatronic spider Aragog spans eighteen feet wide with individual
- 1:14:25Speaker 2: hair individual leg hairs added by hand. Then also something
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: interesting that I never got to see that you guys
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: did most likely it's the Potter Residents and got it hollow.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: It was archived with the introduction of the Greenhouse in
- 1:14:43Speaker 2: twenty twenty two, so that one is no longer on display.
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: Unfortunately, that makes sense because I because I remember seeing
- 1:14:49Speaker 4: it the first time. I'm forret sure I had a
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: pitched up, and when I went the second time, I
- 1:14:52Speaker 4: was like, am I just making a memory? Because that
- 1:14:58Speaker 4: made sense?
- 1:14:58Speaker 5: Now I got archives?
- 1:15:00Speaker 2: Okay, Yeah, so that's one of the perks of going
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: there early, Like they haven't archived many of them, like
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: I think it's mostly all there, but that's one of
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: the things that they have to obviously, because the space
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: is not insane.
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: They're going to start running out of space if they
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: keep expanding.
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: Yeah, that's the thing. Yeah, because they're still filming things
- 1:15:21Speaker 2: like either the TV show or they're filming HBO original content,
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: Like they're filming a lot of stuff. It's an actual
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: working studio, sets studio, so I don't know how they
- 1:15:32Speaker 2: could keep expanding. I imagine they will too, but.
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: Yeah, from what I remember the first time, like even
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: the working studio was very small, and it's changed a lot,
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: Like I remember coming on the bus going those sound
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: stages were not there when I was last there, so
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: I don't know if they have built another sound stage
- 1:15:51Speaker 4: to expand the studio or they are using them as
- 1:15:55Speaker 4: working studios. But there's a lot of working sound stages
- 1:15:57Speaker 4: and it's incredibly large, like it was a working airfield,
- 1:16:02Speaker 4: so they have a lot of space.
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, So at peak times the studio tour welcomes
- 1:16:10Speaker 2: up to six thousand visitors a day, making one of
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: the UK's most popular attractions. That's insane.
- 1:16:18Speaker 5: It's hard to get tickets sometimes it is hard. Like, yes,
- 1:16:22Speaker 5: I was, I was.
- 1:16:23Speaker 4: There as soon as my date opened. I was on
- 1:16:25Speaker 4: the computer because it's like I am not missing out lists.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, you have to book in advance always. They
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: do open last minute tickets, so if you happen to
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: be there, like on a you know, last minute trip,
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: just check it just in case, because there might be
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: some openings. It happened to me with the last trip
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: I did, I was able to get tickets like two
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: days before because they opened a few more slots. So yeah,
- 1:16:53Speaker 2: just for you to keep that in mind in case.
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: In case you do happen to go kind of last
- 1:16:59Speaker 2: minute and last just be sure to peek around at
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: the gift shop, since there's more than just merch, you
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: can see some pieces of sets placed, like the Gray
- 1:17:09Speaker 2: Lady bald Arch, which is you know, standing on top
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: like it's above and it literally says it's the actual set.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: There's this tag on it that says original set, and
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: the stained glass from the Spiral stairs as seen in
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: the Goblet of Fire. And I'm not sure how much
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: of you know, how more like how many more Easter
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: ex there could be. I've seen some of like the
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: Hotwarts library bookshelves, but I don't know those are the
- 1:17:40Speaker 2: actual ones or they were just remade for the show,
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: for the for the gift shop. So yeah, that's really
- 1:17:47Speaker 2: interesting too, Like even in the gift shop, you get
- 1:17:49Speaker 2: to see all these little, you know, bits of the world.
- 1:17:53Speaker 4: And if you guys the gift shoup in Toyko, be
- 1:17:55Speaker 4: prepared to spind the least half an air in there
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: because it's like the sane itself, like because they have
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: every single room is decorated so and check out is
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: green gots, so you will collect the gates of green dots.
- 1:18:07Speaker 4: And again there's props in the gift shop, and that
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: gift shop was huge.
- 1:18:12Speaker 5: You could have spent a lot of money in there.
- 1:18:15Speaker 3: Wow.
- 1:18:16Speaker 2: Yeah, I imagine it's bigger than the one in London too.
- 1:18:21Speaker 4: Yeah, well they had the space for it, like it's
- 1:18:24Speaker 4: probably the same size as the Fruit Hall on the
- 1:18:27Speaker 4: other side, which is pretty big anyway.
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah yeah. So last but not leads I
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: wanted to cover just really quickly go through some of
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: the events that take place. So you have the Dark
- 1:18:43Speaker 2: Arts event, which runs through September to November. So basically
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: the sets are dressed for Halloween with loading pumpkins in
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: the Great Hall and creeping depth dark mark projections around
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: the tour. So it gives it that little kind of
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: like eerie vibe and spooky. So it's good. It's an
- 1:19:01Speaker 2: annual event. It happens every year, so if you happen
- 1:19:05Speaker 2: to be there around Halloween time, it's a great opportunity
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: to drop by the student tour. I haven't experienced it,
- 1:19:12Speaker 2: probably this year, but yeah.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: I feel like I maybe went.
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: I feel like I remember seeing the pumpkins and the
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: Great Hall, and I also, being the Halloween fan that
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: I am, could have seen myself like purposely trying to
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: go during this time. So I feel like one of
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: my visits was during this, but it could be a
- 1:19:33Speaker 1: false memory just from seeing pictures of it, but I'm
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: pretty sure I went. But yeah, the Great Hall is
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: really cool seeing it decorated for the different holidays. Yeah.
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: Yeah. Also, like you have also Hobwards in the Snow,
- 1:19:48Speaker 2: which runs from November to January, so again you get
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: the the Hogward's Castle coated snow, which you know, I
- 1:19:58Speaker 2: haven't been there, but you guys have seen it and
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: you know it's amazing from what I've seen. The Magical Mischief,
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: which runs from January to April, so it's very Weasley focused,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: lots of pranks, practical effects and playful displays. And last
- 1:20:16Speaker 2: but not least, there are a ton more features, but
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: we would have to discuss these and spend hours talking
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: about it because there's so much. But these are kind
- 1:20:23Speaker 2: of like the most important ones. And the Summer Future
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: basically is tied into anniversary events. It happens runs through
- 1:20:30Speaker 2: from May through September. Last year it was returned to Azkaban,
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: and this year it was Making of Champions for Goblet
- 1:20:39Speaker 2: of Fire twentieth anniversary, and next year there's going to
- 1:20:41Speaker 2: be a special anniversary twenty fifth anniversary celebration for SORCER's Stone,
- 1:20:45Speaker 2: so exciting to see what they come up with just
- 1:20:47Speaker 2: really quick. I was able to go to the last
- 1:20:52Speaker 2: couple of days where the making of Champions feature took
- 1:20:55Speaker 2: place for Goblet of Fire and it was cool. You know,
- 1:20:58Speaker 2: it included displays of costumes and props from the movie,
- 1:21:02Speaker 2: interactive shows with students from derdam Strang and bo Botzones
- 1:21:06Speaker 2: and you know how they made their entrance and it
- 1:21:09Speaker 2: was like, you know, they were walking through you know,
- 1:21:12Speaker 2: the sets and it was a pretty good spectacle and
- 1:21:17Speaker 2: it was Yeah. There's also uh the new backlock stage
- 1:21:22Speaker 2: where interactors reveal secrets of special effects. So it includes
- 1:21:26Speaker 2: the Hungarian horn tail and the huge water tank that
- 1:21:30Speaker 2: they had to build for the underwater scene in the
- 1:21:32Speaker 2: second task. So that was also really really interesting because
- 1:21:36Speaker 2: it's also new, a new backlock stage, and I'm sure
- 1:21:41Speaker 2: they're going to be incorporating new elements to it, just
- 1:21:44Speaker 2: not revolving so much on Goblet of Fire but on
- 1:21:47Speaker 2: the other films. So interesting to see how they're going
- 1:21:50Speaker 2: to put it into use now.
- 1:21:54Speaker 4: Because in Tarkio they have a whole section of the
- 1:21:56Speaker 4: sounds on the construction team, the team Like that was
- 1:22:01Speaker 4: really interesting.
- 1:22:01Speaker 5: So I hope they bring that to London, and.
- 1:22:04Speaker 4: Especially if they have a special effects area, like they
- 1:22:06Speaker 4: can do a whole post production that.
- 1:22:11Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:22:12Speaker 3: There.
- 1:22:12Speaker 4: They talked about the dubbing as well, which was very
- 1:22:15Speaker 4: unique because you wouldn't have that in London, but since
- 1:22:19Speaker 4: it's Japan, and of course they had to dub everything.
- 1:22:21Speaker 5: They had the character who dubbed Harry.
- 1:22:24Speaker 4: I think they had another one, maybe the Harmione one,
- 1:22:27Speaker 4: but that was really cool. They had a whole section
- 1:22:31Speaker 4: like a video of him talking about getting the role
- 1:22:33Speaker 4: and how it was dubbing Daniel Radcliffe.
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: Yeah nice, Yeah, yeah, I love it because it's also
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: very like it's not just you know, it incorporates things
- 1:22:46Speaker 2: from the Japanese dubbing. So it's cool because it's very
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: like cultural too. It's very like rooted in the Japanese.
- 1:22:57Speaker 2: Like I think of myself like if it was kind
- 1:23:00Speaker 2: of like a tour in Latin America and I would
- 1:23:03Speaker 2: have like the actors who did it, who voiced the
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: actors that you know, I grew up watching the films
- 1:23:08Speaker 2: dubbed into Spanish, and yeah, that would be really cool
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: to see.
- 1:23:12Speaker 4: And even going back to like the star to where
- 1:23:15Speaker 4: you get like all the fans talking about it. They
- 1:23:19Speaker 4: they had the exact same video, but they interwined it
- 1:23:21Speaker 4: with Japanese fans and them talking about it, which is
- 1:23:25Speaker 4: very very cool.
- 1:23:26Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah nice and so yeah, to wrap up the
- 1:23:32Speaker 2: the Making of Champions feature, obviously, the Hogwarts Castle always
- 1:23:38Speaker 2: has some sort of track under its leeve because there's
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: always something that, you know, whenever there's a new event
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: coming up, and you can see a projection of Harry
- 1:23:48Speaker 2: being chased by the Hungarian horn tale taking place. It
- 1:23:52Speaker 2: happens every It happened every kind of like five minutes,
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: so you know, the lights dimmed and you got to see,
- 1:23:57Speaker 2: like it was really cool because it kind of like
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: seemed like Harry was actually flying through the castle and
- 1:24:03Speaker 2: the dragon was following. Yeah, so that one was pretty
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: cool too. So yeah, like, if if you ever happened
- 1:24:10Speaker 2: to be there when there's a special event, just make
- 1:24:13Speaker 2: sure to go because these things don't always you know,
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: some of them happening yearly, but some of them don't.
- 1:24:20Speaker 1: So yeah, I wish I was closer, same, right, I
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: really really definitely try to take advantage when I lived there,
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: But I guess I guess I have the parks that
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: it's easy.
- 1:24:35Speaker 2: You got the parks.
- 1:24:36Speaker 3: I mean I can go to the parks to our flight.
- 1:24:39Speaker 5: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I have to really plan that. Sorry,
- 1:24:42Speaker 5: you do.
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: Being a.
- 1:24:45Speaker 5: January we're at the parks.
- 1:24:48Speaker 2: We have to do we have to all do a
- 1:24:50Speaker 2: trip together to the parks.
- 1:24:51Speaker 4: Yeah. I did pitch to the to our group chat
- 1:24:55Speaker 4: out rebellion and expect we have a group chat together
- 1:25:00Speaker 4: that after our January group trip to Orlando.
- 1:25:05Speaker 5: The following year, we go to Scotland in London in
- 1:25:09Speaker 5: a couple of years time.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I have not been back since I graduated.
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: Like so it's been over a decade and it's been
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: on and.
- 1:25:17Speaker 4: We plan it Jacobite train and everything, because I've been
- 1:25:22Speaker 4: in Scotland twice and I still have not done the
- 1:25:24Speaker 4: Jacobite train.
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: I mean, if it makes you feel any better, I
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: lived in Scotland and I never did the Jacobite train
- 1:25:30Speaker 1: because you just think you've got all this time to
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: do it, and I just before you knew it, my
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: program was over and I had to come back to America.
- 1:25:38Speaker 3: And yeah, so I have never done it either and.
- 1:25:43Speaker 5: So short as well.
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: So yes, the Jacobite train experience is magical. It's well, yeah,
- 1:25:50Speaker 2: it takes your breath away really.
- 1:25:53Speaker 4: But I had gone up to Fort Will and we
- 1:25:55Speaker 4: did manage to get up there in the middle of
- 1:25:56Speaker 4: the snow, so that was magical.
- 1:25:58Speaker 2: Wow, And we just didn't we're.
- 1:26:01Speaker 4: Going to catch the normal train that goes along the
- 1:26:04Speaker 4: same line, but it was very snowy, and all the
- 1:26:07Speaker 4: locals were just like, it does not.
- 1:26:09Speaker 5: Snow up here, so everything's sort of at a standstill.
- 1:26:12Speaker 4: So we're just like, okay, we only don't really have
- 1:26:14Speaker 4: twenty four hours until we're heading back, so.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: Always something to come back for, yes, of course, yes,
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: and also nice that you got to see snow, because
- 1:26:24Speaker 2: if it doesn't happen that often, like how many times
- 1:26:27Speaker 2: are you going to go there and see it all
- 1:26:28Speaker 2: covered in snow?
- 1:26:29Speaker 5: Like yeah, I was surprised about that.
- 1:26:33Speaker 4: But we walked in and they're just like, yeah, the
- 1:26:35Speaker 4: snow doesn't really stick, but it's sticking, which is really weird.
- 1:26:39Speaker 4: And it's like, oh, I'm just happy just to be here.
- 1:26:41Speaker 5: This is magical. Yeah, it's very very much in Australia.
- 1:26:48Speaker 3: You can have some of mine.
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Yeah, I live in one of the snowiest parts of
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: the country, so you can have some of mine.
- 1:26:56Speaker 4: Oh don't. I'll be seeing some in Canada in generally
- 1:26:58Speaker 4: so oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: So I was just wondering you guys, if you know,
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: you had any sets that you would like to see
- 1:27:09Speaker 2: incorporated in the future. Like for me, I would love
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: to see the entrance courtyard. I think it's such a
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: prominent set from films four to eight, and there's a
- 1:27:18Speaker 2: lot of scenes that take place there. It's such an
- 1:27:20Speaker 2: iconic piece. But I'm also in you know, I'm surprised
- 1:27:24Speaker 2: it hasn't been at it to this point. But I
- 1:27:26Speaker 2: guess also, like we would talking about space limitations, that
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: could be a reason. But yeah, I also love to
- 1:27:32Speaker 2: see the Astronomy Tower, the Harvard's Library, the hospital wing,
- 1:27:35Speaker 2: I think would be great to see.
- 1:27:37Speaker 4: How about you, well, it would be cool for they
- 1:27:40Speaker 4: turn the backplot into the courtyard and they put everything
- 1:27:42Speaker 4: in there.
- 1:27:44Speaker 5: That would be cool.
- 1:27:44Speaker 2: Interesting. Yeah.
- 1:27:46Speaker 4: Howart's Library is that Tokyo And I did get a
- 1:27:49Speaker 4: picture of me sitting down with all the books, and
- 1:27:51Speaker 4: the books were so funny to read the titles of
- 1:27:54Speaker 4: I think that was the one.
- 1:27:54Speaker 5: That's like law and something in the magical World.
- 1:27:57Speaker 4: It's like, okay, so Yeah, the library, but that was
- 1:28:02Speaker 4: only a small section, so I'd love to see a bigger,
- 1:28:05Speaker 4: expanded library. That would be amazing. Oh, the Austronomy town
- 1:28:10Speaker 4: would be so cool, especially if they can add something
- 1:28:12Speaker 4: special effects to make, like like a planetarium.
- 1:28:16Speaker 5: That would be cool.
- 1:28:17Speaker 4: I was thinking like an underwater great lake sort of
- 1:28:23Speaker 4: as like yeah to put like because like you were saying,
- 1:28:26Speaker 4: how they had the special effects with like the boat
- 1:28:28Speaker 4: scenes and stuff. It'll because they did a whole great
- 1:28:30Speaker 4: lake area where you can have the top bit but
- 1:28:33Speaker 4: then walk down underneath to see everything underneath the lake.
- 1:28:37Speaker 5: That would be cool.
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: That'd be cool. Yeah, give photop Yeah.
- 1:28:41Speaker 6: Oh.
- 1:28:41Speaker 4: One thing they had in Tokyo that I loved was
- 1:28:44Speaker 4: they expanded the platform to include the train from Fantastic Beasts.
- 1:28:51Speaker 5: I will I can't.
- 1:28:53Speaker 4: That would have been like a remay set, I'm pretty sure,
- 1:28:55Speaker 4: but it was pretty cool. They talked about all sign
- 1:28:58Speaker 4: I'd love to see more Fantastic Beast stuff in London,
- 1:29:01Speaker 4: and they had a lot in Tokyo because they had the.
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: Yeah, there's nothing fantastic. I think there's nothing Fantastic Beasts
- 1:29:09Speaker 2: in the studio tour, which I find surprising.
- 1:29:13Speaker 4: Thing I haven't well maybe because it's all in Tokyo now,
- 1:29:17Speaker 4: but they had they had all the costumes lined up.
- 1:29:20Speaker 4: It was like they had a whole section on the costumes.
- 1:29:22Speaker 4: They had the ones, and then they had the training apartment.
- 1:29:27Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:29:27Speaker 4: They they really did talk a lot about fantastic beasts
- 1:29:30Speaker 4: and everything.
- 1:29:32Speaker 5: Mm hmmm, I love to see more beasts in tours.
- 1:29:36Speaker 2: Yeah, how about Nicole?
- 1:29:39Speaker 4: Now?
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: I know, Sorry, I don't know, because like I just
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: want to go back and see all the additions that
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: I haven't seen, Like I.
- 1:29:48Speaker 3: Just want to start there.
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: So it's hard for me to think of, like what
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: else I want to see because I'm like I want
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: to see the Forbidden Forests and stuff.
- 1:29:55Speaker 3: But no, I mean it'd also be cool to get like.
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: I think of like like diagon Alley and if we
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: were able to like go into some of those sets,
- 1:30:05Speaker 1: like and they were able to do like you know,
- 1:30:08Speaker 1: like any like really any of the shops like have
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: like an actual set. They can't do that, but if
- 1:30:15Speaker 1: but if they like it would have they have the
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: space like to like obviously not walk through the actual set, right,
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: but it was like off that room or something like.
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: That, and you got to go in and see like.
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: I mean, I'm always you know, I can't even I
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: mean I don't even know really any of the shops.
- 1:30:32Speaker 1: I think like an actual like Oli Vanders would be cool.
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: I think even like Flourish Blots or something. You can
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: do it at the park, right like and.
- 1:30:44Speaker 4: Like the London set is the original set, so it's like, right,
- 1:30:48Speaker 4: which wouldn't you depressed me?
- 1:30:49Speaker 5: It's such a small set.
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: Yes, it is very surprising, yeah, because you think of
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: it just being massive. But if they did like some
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: kind of magic where you didn't like obviously walk through
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: the door, but like it was like off to the side.
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: But I also think, yeah, Hogwart's Library would be cool.
- 1:31:04Speaker 3: I think.
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: I don't know, like even I just I just think
- 1:31:09Speaker 1: of all the different shops, it'd be really cool to
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: see to see those. I never would have thought the
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: Astronomy Tower, but that would actually be really cool as well.
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: And I think also yeah, just for like fantastic beasts,
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: Like I think about how cool like having like Newts
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Case would be.
- 1:31:26Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't know.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: If they'd I don't think they'd ever incorporate that unfortunately
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: in London because there's just not space. And then this
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: also gets me thinking, like, are we gonna like eventually
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: get like a second studio tour for like the TV
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: show and then all the different things there that that
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: could open up, and like, well, I would much rather
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: have that than them incorporate it right to what we
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: already have.
- 1:31:48Speaker 4: Well, they did announce a stall issue that they've opened
- 1:31:51Speaker 4: Shanghai studio tour, so I wonder if that TV show
- 1:31:56Speaker 4: will not go there because it seems like a lot
- 1:31:59Speaker 4: of fantastic bass wants to Tikyo.
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: That makes sense because they have they'll have the space
- 1:32:03Speaker 1: to add those things that they really can't do in London,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: and I think to it also is good to like
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: keep everything separate, and like we've talked about, it makes
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: it nice to go to these different places, right because
- 1:32:14Speaker 1: there's so many different things you can see that you
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: can't see other places.
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: But yeah, we'll see.
- 1:32:21Speaker 1: I also don't want them to add too much because
- 1:32:23Speaker 1: like what we talked about earlier, like because they're limited
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: in space, Like the more they add, the more things
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: that are going to have to get taken away, and
- 1:32:30Speaker 1: I really don't want to see more things taken away,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: So I would be okay with them like maybe focusing
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: more on like featured events that they can do rather
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: than building like a huge, big set that would potentially
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: take something else away. Yeah, because yeah, I can't imagine
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: walking into the back lot and not seeing the gotcha
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: callow like the house. I guess I will realize that
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: next time I get there, because it'll be gone. But
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: I can't imagine that not being there. So yeah, I
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: don't want them to remove anything else.
- 1:33:00Speaker 2: Hm hmm, yeah that's true. Not for this maybe nothing.
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: My answer is going to be nothing, don't add anything
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: else something else? Correct.
- 1:33:09Speaker 2: Yeah, but I love speaking of to wrap up our
- 1:33:12Speaker 2: main discussion, Like the something I love about the Japan
- 1:33:16Speaker 2: Studio tour is you actually have the Grand Staircase.
- 1:33:21Speaker 4: Yes, that area is incredible, Like you walk into the
- 1:33:25Speaker 4: entrance hall and then you have the staircase and you
- 1:33:28Speaker 4: have all the porchras and you put yourself on the portrait.
- 1:33:30Speaker 4: It was so fun trying to work out where in
- 1:33:32Speaker 4: the hole will turn up. Yeah that that I forgot about.
- 1:33:36Speaker 4: That that's cool. And that's right.
- 1:33:38Speaker 5: After the great Hall.
- 1:33:40Speaker 4: So you walk out and you're in the Grand entrance
- 1:33:42Speaker 4: and everything.
- 1:33:42Speaker 5: I'm pretty sure.
- 1:33:43Speaker 2: Cool.
- 1:33:44Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, well I know, well, I mean I know
- 1:33:49Speaker 6: that you have to kind of depart from us here
- 1:33:51Speaker 6: at Lucy, but wanted to see if there was anything
- 1:33:53Speaker 6: else that, like you wanted to share about the studio
- 1:33:56Speaker 6: tour Tokyo that we didn't like that you didn't get
- 1:33:58Speaker 6: to touch on or talk about throughout the episode.
- 1:34:00Speaker 4: I think I touched on everything that I enjoyed, Like
- 1:34:04Speaker 4: I loved all the extra things they put in, like
- 1:34:06Speaker 4: the construction, Like the construction was they had a whole
- 1:34:09Speaker 4: section on it and it was amazing. You got to
- 1:34:10Speaker 4: touch and feel all the set pieces, well not the
- 1:34:13Speaker 4: set pieces, but like pieces from sets, like to see
- 1:34:16Speaker 4: what it felt like.
- 1:34:17Speaker 5: That was cool.
- 1:34:18Speaker 4: But I think everything else I've sort of touched on
- 1:34:22Speaker 4: throughout the whole episode. Is there something I've forgotten, I'll
- 1:34:27Speaker 4: let you know. But it was just incredible and I
- 1:34:31Speaker 4: highly recommend anybody who care to check you to see
- 1:34:33Speaker 4: it and you'll have an amazing time. It's different but
- 1:34:37Speaker 4: the same as London.
- 1:34:38Speaker 3: M I just say it. I mean, you made it
- 1:34:41Speaker 3: sound like it's so different but in such a good way.
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, definitely.
- 1:34:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:34:48Speaker 4: And I also have an article on your website about
- 1:34:51Speaker 4: the two different things and how amazing it was.
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, good plug for that.
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: So yeah, you can go to our website and see
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: Lucy's article and there's some pictures I believe in there
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: as well, and yeah.
- 1:35:06Speaker 4: Yeah, and I'll send you guys some more pictures. Like
- 1:35:08Speaker 4: I because I did both of the tours within like
- 1:35:11Speaker 4: eight months of each other, and because I work with
- 1:35:14Speaker 4: behind the Water, I was like, I need to shoot
- 1:35:15Speaker 4: everything because I don't know when this but I'm gonna
- 1:35:18Speaker 4: need it.
- 1:35:18Speaker 5: So I've got so much footage.
- 1:35:21Speaker 4: So if you guys need any photos, just let me
- 1:35:23Speaker 4: know and.
- 1:35:23Speaker 5: I probably have for it all. But sounds good.
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: Well, thank you so much for joining us today.
- 1:35:29Speaker 5: Thank you so much for having you. It's such a blast.
- 1:35:33Speaker 4: I love talking about this sort of stuff, like it's oh,
- 1:35:35Speaker 4: I love behind the scenes.
- 1:35:36Speaker 5: I love all this.
- 1:35:37Speaker 2: I could go on for hours.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: We do too, that is like that is like we
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: talk about that all the time where we feel like
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: it's something we cover on this podcast that maybe others don't.
- 1:35:45Speaker 3: So yeah, you're more than what join us again.
- 1:35:49Speaker 4: Yeah, if I didn't have to go to work, I'll
- 1:35:51Speaker 4: talk all day to you guys about this and like,
- 1:35:54Speaker 4: if you if you want to like do like behind
- 1:35:56Speaker 4: the scenes or something later on let me know.
- 1:35:58Speaker 5: I'm your go.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: We would love to have thank you on Yeah.
- 1:36:01Speaker 4: Well, thank you so much, like I actually probably should
- 1:36:04Speaker 4: hit twig now, Okay, okay.
- 1:36:08Speaker 2: Bye bye, Lucy Sony.
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: So, last episode, we asked what is your favorite set
- 1:36:20Speaker 1: from the Harry Potter or Fantastic Beast films. So Jerry
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: shared that she loved the episode, discussing Stuart Craig's legacy
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: as production designer for both The Harry Potter and The
- 1:36:33Speaker 1: Fantastic Beast films, and obviously you know his theme park
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: involvement as well, she said, waiting for the extended discussion
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: mentioned at the end of the episode to appear on Patreon.
- 1:36:42Speaker 3: It's on there, Jerry. If you haven't listened to it yet,
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: it is on Patreon. She said.
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: It is almost impossible to select a favorite set from
- 1:36:50Speaker 1: the films. There are so many great sets, from Harry's
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: introduction to the Wizarding World at the Three Broomsticks and
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: diagon Alley, to the Great Hall, the Gryffindor Common Room,
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: the Burrow, hogs Mead, and so many more. And that
- 1:37:03Speaker 1: isn't even getting into the Fantastic Beast films, where my
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: visions from the books didn't have to compete with the
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: film versions, so you've got Jacob's Bakery, the Blind Pig,
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: Nut's Case, Queen and Tina's apartment, the Great Wizarding Express,
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: and so many more. Jerry says fresh back from Epic Universe.
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: Perhaps newt Case gained some points since I felt like
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: I was almost inside it during the circus show. So
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: if I have to select just one, this is it.
- 1:37:27Speaker 1: But I don't want to pick just one. Thinking about
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: the previous episode and the discussion of the upcoming we
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: Hope Train experience, I can wish that they would put
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: a Great Wizarding Express from Fantastic Beast Train Car Onto
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: Or into the experience in addition to the Hogwarts Express part,
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: since I really loved that Wizarding World train car for
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: grown ups and apparently it can be added to Muggle trains,
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: so why not the Hogwarts Express. The Good, The Bad
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: and the Boy podcast on Instagram said, great question. Dumbledore's office, However,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: Gryffindor's common room just.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: Seems so cozy.
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: I agree, C Yeah, and and shared the Ministry of Magic. Honestly,
- 1:38:08Speaker 1: any of them, they're all stunning, but the British Ministry
- 1:38:11Speaker 1: of magic is peak though.
- 1:38:15Speaker 2: Ugly. Yes, yes, especially when you see it. You know
- 1:38:19Speaker 2: it's not the actual set at the theme park, but
- 1:38:22Speaker 2: from what I've seen in.
- 1:38:23Speaker 3: Pictures up yeah, oh my goodness.
- 1:38:26Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, and I'm guessing it's even grander than the
- 1:38:28Speaker 2: actual set that they built.
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Honestly, probably because it's it can be immersive in the
- 1:38:35Speaker 1: way that a film set can't be, right because it's
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: like a living set.
- 1:38:39Speaker 3: But you have this.
- 1:38:40Speaker 1: It's you're literally walking in and it's in camp. You're
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: like you're in it. The only thing that takes you
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: away from it is the chains of the queue for
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: the line. If that was We're gone, you would just
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: feel like you're I feel like you feel like you're there.
- 1:38:52Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly. Yeah.
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: So for this episode, we want to know what would
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: you most look forward to you if you are visiting
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: the studio tour, so we would love to hear from you.
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: You can drop us an email at Revellio Podcast staff

- 1:39:23Speaker 1: support the show on Patreon over at patreon dot com
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: backslash Revellio podcast. So just want to give another thank
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: you to Lucy for joining our episode. Super super great
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: to hear from somebody who's been to the Tokyo Studio
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: tour and can yeah share all the insights about a
- 1:39:45Speaker 1: place that I one day hope that I can get to.
- 1:39:48Speaker 2: Same and also like how different they are and just
- 1:39:52Speaker 2: getting a new perspective on it and from someone who's
- 1:39:54Speaker 2: actually been there, because it's one thing to see it
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: in picture, but it's something different, like someone who's been
- 1:40:00Speaker 2: to both tours and be like, you know, the Hogwarts
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: model is actually bigger in Japan or you have this
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: and you know, and so it's really interesting and it
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: makes you look forward to like visiting the other you know,
- 1:40:12Speaker 2: on the other side of the world, and yeah, just
- 1:40:15Speaker 2: keeps fostering our desire to visit Japan and we'll do
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: one day for sure.
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Well, we hope that everybody enjoyed another episode kind of
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: talking a little bit more about the behind the scenes.
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: We obviously love talking about that here at Revellio and
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: we're all big fans of the studio tour as well,
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: so definitely add it to your list of places to
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: travel to in this world, because if you're listening to
- 1:40:42Speaker 1: this podcast, you're obviously, you know, a big Harry Potter fan,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: and it is as we've talked about, it is not
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: just a museum. It is much more than that, and
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: hopefully this episode gave you a little bit more insight
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: into it.
- 1:40:54Speaker 3: So until next time, I'm Nicole and
- 1:40:58Speaker 2: I'm Tom mischief Man.
