Transcript
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Hey y'all.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: Welcome to this week's episode.
- 0:05SPEAKER_00: So if you listen to Tuesday's episode, you heard me talking about something that I think highly responsible humans need to be reminded of more often.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And it's that God knows that you're human.
- 0:19SPEAKER_00: And oftentimes we are holding ourselves to standards that God never asked us to meet.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: And so today's conversation really feels like the practical layer of that.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: My guest today is Justin Rothlingschaufer.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: And he is the author of Holy Health.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: And as somebody who has spent years studying health and human performance, including working with elite athletes at the highest level of professional sports, what actually makes Justin's story so interesting is that while he was helping other people perform at extraordinary levels, his own body eventually started telling him that the way he was living wasn't sustainable.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: And I don't know about you, but I definitely resonate with that.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: And I mention it in this podcast.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: And I think for all of us, we can be so incredibly responsible with our businesses, our families, our teams, our ministries, and our callings while actually treating the human body that is carrying all of that responsibility for us like it's somehow optional.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: And so Justin and I talk about that through the lens of Romans chapter 12, verses one and two, as well as his work in holy health.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: And we touch on identity, performance, stewardship, obedience, and what it might look like for all of us to change the way we care for our health so that it actually becomes a central part of our worship.
- 1:38SPEAKER_00: There is a lot in this conversation.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Justin is an absolute wealth of amazing information.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: And I think it's going to give you some things to sit with.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: So I hope that it blesses you.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And let's get into it.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the show, Justin.
- 1:51SPEAKER_00: We're so excited to have you here to talk about holy health and such a timely topic of stewardship and identity and really owning the body that like God has given us and God has designed for us.
- 2:06SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for joining us.
- 2:08SPEAKER_01: Good to be here, Lee.
- 2:09SPEAKER_01: Thank you for having me.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: I would love to just hear a little bit more about your story.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: And if people are watching the video, we can see the books behind you.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: What led you to bring these out to the marketplace?
- 2:21SPEAKER_01: At this point right now, like I would just say that God has me exactly where he wants me.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: And we know the scripture that you were prepared for a time such as this.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: And I don't think it's more true than the the season that I'm living in right now.
- 2:36SPEAKER_01: And what I want everybody to hear, especially the entrepreneurs, the high capacity people, that this life was not always this way for me.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: And I am still not perfect.
- 2:46SPEAKER_01: I am figuring it out as I go.
- 2:48SPEAKER_01: I always say that I'm one step from stupid.
- 2:50SPEAKER_01: And if I don't go to the Lord first, you'll find me doubled over in a barrel somewhere.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:55SPEAKER_01: But going back to when I was eight, Lee, I knew exactly where God was calling me, but didn't exactly know what it was going to take to get there.
- 3:04SPEAKER_01: And grew up in a Christian home, was hearing from the Lord at a very young age.
- 3:08SPEAKER_01: So at eight years old, I'd heard from the Lord that you're going to be a part of the health redemption story of America.
- 3:13SPEAKER_01: And I really didn't know the journey of what it was going to require, what it was going to be, because at that point I was just an athletic kid, but an obese athletic kid.
- 3:21SPEAKER_01: And being teased, made fun of.
- 3:23SPEAKER_01: The summer of my 14-year-old year, I had a girl spurt.
- 3:27SPEAKER_01: I started to train a little bit more with a group of my hockey guys.
- 3:30SPEAKER_01: And I went to training camp that fall.
- 3:33SPEAKER_01: And all of a sudden, everybody was looking at me as I walked in.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh, Justin, I don't recognize you.
- 3:37SPEAKER_01: Oh my God.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: And it was the first time that I ever felt fear because I didn't ever want to go back to the way life was before that.
- 3:47SPEAKER_01: And so the fat kid became the anorexic kid that controlled everything, performed in every way possible.
- 3:53SPEAKER_01: Glycemic index inside and out, you know, every macro profile of anything that was being shown to me.
- 3:58SPEAKER_01: And at 16 years old, ultimately was put into an eating disorder clinic, fed through a feeding tube, had liver kidney failure.
- 4:05SPEAKER_01: And I say this was like God's first grace on my life because I still remember sitting there in this eating disorder clinic.
- 4:12SPEAKER_01: The surgeon was in front of me, the psychologist was in front of me, and the eating disorder specialist was in front of me.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: And they all asked me the question to try to almost get like how do we solve this problem rather than how do we understand this person?
- 4:27SPEAKER_01: It was this powerful first experience that I had.
- 4:32SPEAKER_01: Second was that every question they asked me seemingly was the same, but each one of them had a different answer for how to solve it.
- 4:39SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, man, this isn't it.
- 4:41SPEAKER_01: There's something disintegrated here that is creating misalignment in me that causes me not to trust you, that ultimately is not going to get me to where we need to go.
- 4:50SPEAKER_01: By the grace of God, I was able to get over a lot of this.
- 4:54SPEAKER_01: And at 19 years old, I came to the United States on a hockey scholarship and did two undergraduate degrees in exercise science and nutrition, did a master's degree in exercise physiology, and then went into my postgraduate doctoral work in cellular biology.
- 5:08SPEAKER_01: And I was on a mission to answer the question, not how do you treat something, but rather why is it happening?
- 5:15SPEAKER_01: That was the sole question I was trying to figure out.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: And as I left my schooling, I then went into uh further research projects and really just wanted to learn more of what this alternative medicines was.
- 5:29SPEAKER_01: Fast forward about 18 months, and I found myself as a director of health and performance in the National Hockey League.
- 5:35SPEAKER_01: And really taking everything I had learned since I was 16, sitting in that eating disorder clinic, and integrating an entire team together, your strength coach, your nutritionist, your functional medicine doc, your your sports scientist, your head coach, creating a single plan for a single person.
- 5:55SPEAKER_01: And what did we find is that our athletes got sick less, they performed better, they stayed healthier longer, whose careers were going down at 29, 30, 31, started having resurgences at 31, 32, 33, and it was working.
- 6:07SPEAKER_01: And everybody around us was going, like, what's happening?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: What's going on?
- 6:09SPEAKER_01: Any entrepreneur, any business owner, any high capacity person knows that when you find success, what do you do?
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: You double down, you keep going, you start writing books, you start speaking around the world, you get new opportunities.
- 6:21SPEAKER_01: And these opportunities ultimately, over the course of eight years, as I was building a family and under immense pressure every single day to perform and to do things the right way, led to the symptoms that I started to experience at 3132 of brain fog, of back pain, of headaches that wouldn't go away.
- 6:42SPEAKER_01: I'd smell food and I would bloat like a fish.
- 6:44SPEAKER_01: I'd spend two to three hours in the bathroom after eating.
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: It was like, man, I don't think this is normal.
- 6:49SPEAKER_01: But every doctor said, hey, you know what?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: We can't find anything wrong.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Maybe you're just working too much.
- 6:54SPEAKER_01: Maybe you're just working too hard.
- 6:55SPEAKER_01: We don't think anything's wrong with you.
- 6:58SPEAKER_01: And what I want people to hear is just because nothing is wrong doesn't mean everything is right.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 7:04SPEAKER_01: And what they ultimately found was four precancerous polyps in my colon and bleeding precancerous ulcer in my stomach.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: And uh was told I wouldn't see 35.
- 7:14SPEAKER_01: And I went through all of that over the course of 22 years simply to be able to have the understanding and trust that God created us to heal, designed us to thrive, but we have to live in alignment with what it is that He's created.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: And so even while being the expert, I wasn't living in alignment with what God called me to.
- 7:36SPEAKER_01: And it's not just about the science, but it's about the scripture and the two have to align together in how you live and how you behave daily in order to seek the abundant life that God has prepared for you.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: And 14 months later, of completely adjusting my lifestyle, focusing on what my body needed off of what my body was saying through all different testing and the things that I had put myself through and taking the alternative medicine route that I had actually been doing for everybody else, uh, learned that this wasn't just an athlete problem, but a human problem as I had a clean bill of health.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: And ultimately that's when I started to own it.
- 8:10SPEAKER_01: We now have a team of just north of 50, touching thousands of people across the country every single day, and just super blessed to be able to sit in a seat that is creating health for people in ways that oftentimes they feel it's out of reach.
- 8:24SPEAKER_00: That is such a phenomenal story, and it's interesting because there's a lot of different ways I could go.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And I just had a little nudge that's not the direction I was expecting, but I think I wanted to bring in right here.
- 8:37SPEAKER_00: You talked about at that point you were also growing a family.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: What I have seen personally, and the Bible talks about this a lot, is the fact that good wisdom is something that we discipline into ourselves and that it affects the generations that come after us.
- 8:53SPEAKER_00: And I see that a lot of people a lot of times aren't willing to change for themselves at the moment.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Like they will take on that suffering.
- 9:03SPEAKER_00: They will take on, they will tolerate the symptoms as long as the people around them are doing well or if it's supporting them.
- 9:11SPEAKER_00: And there's that moment of realization when you get to a point where you're getting these sorts of diagnoses or you're getting sick enough where you go, oh my gosh, okay, now this could really significantly negatively impact these people that I care the most about.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: You know, if I'm not here in six months, if I'm not here in a year, then okay, great, I protected them for X amount of time, but now from Y forward, that's gone for me.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: I guess I'm just curious for you as a parent, what did that health part look like in relationship to your kids and your family before and what shifted after?
- 9:47SPEAKER_01: Funny thing is a lot of people say, Oh, I'm gonna my kids and my family are why I want to get healthy.
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: If these kids and your family were why you want to get healthy, then you would already be there.
- 9:56SPEAKER_01: It hit me when my wife and I were traveling over in Italy, and we saw this the statue of David.
- 10:03SPEAKER_01: Beautiful marble slab, just amazing detail.
- 10:06SPEAKER_01: There was a like little info package, and it said, as Michelangelo was being interviewed, he said, Hey, how did you create David out of this marble slab?
- 10:16SPEAKER_01: This big piece, nothing became something so amazing.
- 10:22SPEAKER_01: And Michelangelo said back, Oh, that was simple.
- 10:25SPEAKER_01: All I had to do was chisel away everything that wasn't David.
- 10:30SPEAKER_00: Oh, I just got chills.
- 10:32SPEAKER_01: And that's all we are called to do in our habits and our behaviors.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: Chisel away everything that isn't Lee.
- 10:39SPEAKER_01: Chisel away everything that isn't Justin.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: And so what happens is we go and we institute these disciplines.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: We get up at a certain time, we go to bed at a certain time, we eat a certain way, we hydrate a certain way, we exercise a certain way, we meditate a certain way, we do breath work a certain way, we manage dress a certain way, and the disciplines we white knuckle our way through, become the goal rather than becoming the path to the goal, which is to be more like Christ.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: And if we come back to the whole entity, and Romans 12, 1 and 2 says this so beautifully, is that therefore, brothers and sisters, use your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing God, this is your true and proper worship.
- 11:14SPEAKER_01: Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but rather be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
- 11:18SPEAKER_01: It is only then that you will be able to test and approve his good, perfect, and pleasing will.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: And so as we break this down and we start to look at this, we say, therefore, brothers and sisters, use your bodies.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: In Hebrew, bodies was simply another word for life.
- 11:34SPEAKER_01: Use your life the way you live, the way you operate, the way you do things.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Use everything as a living sacrifice.
- 11:40SPEAKER_01: Living sacrifice is critical because at that time, what Paul was telling the Roman people was that, hey, all of your sacrifices are usually dead.
- 11:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: You're laying them on the altar.
- 11:51SPEAKER_01: I don't need you to be that.
- 11:52SPEAKER_01: I need you to be fully alive because of how you're operating.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: That is your true and proper worship.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: That is holy and pleasing to me.
- 11:59SPEAKER_01: That is what I want you to do.
- 12:00SPEAKER_01: That is what the Lord is asking.
- 12:02SPEAKER_01: Be a living sacrifice.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: Holy and pleasing God, this is your true and proper worship.
- 12:07SPEAKER_01: Thus, in order to do that, you can't conform to the patterns of the world.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: You can't conform to the habits, the behaviors, the life rhythms, the way the world does things in order to be fully allied.
- 12:17SPEAKER_01: You can be just functioning, but in order to be thriving, that is different.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: That looks different because that is showing people what God actually is, the size of your God, the man that you worship.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: What does this look like in terms of how you operate?
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: So do not conform to the pattern of the work, but rather be transformed.
- 12:36SPEAKER_01: Transformed, the definition is literally to change in form and function.
- 12:41SPEAKER_01: Means you look different, you sound different, you think different, you feel different, and you do different for good.
- 12:50SPEAKER_01: Once you've transformed, you cannot go back because your heart has changed by the renewing of your mind.
- 12:56SPEAKER_01: Your mind is simply another word for heart.
- 12:58SPEAKER_01: Heart, mind, they are one when we're talking about scripture.
- 13:02SPEAKER_01: So we have to change these things because when you do this, you will be able to test and approve his good, perfect, and pleasing will.
- 13:09SPEAKER_01: There is only one other time that God tells us we have the right to test him.
- 13:14SPEAKER_01: He says you will be able to test and approve his good, perfect, and pleasing will.
- 13:18SPEAKER_01: So basically saying, once you transform, you will have discernment.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: You will not have discernment prior to.
- 13:24SPEAKER_01: So when we think about this, it's how are we living daily?
- 13:28SPEAKER_01: How are we living in alignment with who it is that we've called to be?
- 13:32SPEAKER_01: And in order to do that, we have to shift from the patterns of the world.
- 13:35SPEAKER_01: The world tells us the order of how we decide what we do is body first, the physical first.
- 13:42SPEAKER_01: Wake up at this time, go to bed at this time, intermittent fast this way, hydrate this way, go and meditate and do breath work this way, go in the sauna and the cold plunge this way, go and get this many steps this way, go and go in this many vacations and this many Sabbath days and this many days off this way.
- 13:58SPEAKER_01: This is what the world says.
- 13:59SPEAKER_01: When we take a physical approach first, it imprisons the heart.
- 14:04SPEAKER_01: It imprisons the heart because you're like, man, gosh, I don't think I'm good enough to do this.
- 14:09SPEAKER_01: I can't do it well enough.
- 14:12SPEAKER_01: I I'm too busy.
- 14:14SPEAKER_01: Then that ultimately starts clouding the mind.
- 14:16SPEAKER_01: It causes anxiety, it causes depression, it causes overwhelm, it causes us to feel flustered in a multitude of different ways.
- 14:22SPEAKER_01: And ultimately, what does it do?
- 14:24SPEAKER_01: It separates the spirit.
- 14:25SPEAKER_01: It separates us from God.
- 14:27SPEAKER_01: It separates us and starts causing us to strive, starts causing us to perform.
- 14:31SPEAKER_01: Now we have to protect ourselves in certain ways.
- 14:34SPEAKER_01: And it leads to these types of hearts that I talk about in holy health.
- 14:38SPEAKER_01: There's five of them, which is the pleaser heart.
- 14:41SPEAKER_01: Kind of like what you just said.
- 14:42SPEAKER_01: If everybody else is good, then I'll be fine.
- 14:45SPEAKER_01: The protector heart, it's like, man, I've had hope before, but I've been let down everywhere.
- 14:50SPEAKER_01: So I'm going to continue to protect myself and I'm just going to do what I've always done because that way I'm safe.
- 14:56SPEAKER_01: The performance heart, where it's like, I'm only validated by what I do.
- 14:59SPEAKER_01: So I'm going to continue to strive, continue to push, continue to play, continue to go, even though I'm exhausted, tired, fatigue, and don't feel complete in any way, shape, or form.
- 15:08SPEAKER_01: Then there's the perfectionist heart, which is, hey, it if I can't do it perfectly, I'm not even going to start.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: If I can't do it perfectly, I'm not even going to do it because it doesn't matter, anyways.
- 15:17SPEAKER_01: And then there's the pessimist heart.
- 15:19SPEAKER_01: And the pessimist heart says, everything is bad.
- 15:21SPEAKER_01: Everything is negative.
- 15:22SPEAKER_01: Why would I even start?
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Why would I even try?
- 15:24SPEAKER_01: Because it never turns out my way, anyways.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop.
- 15:29SPEAKER_01: And a lot of these hearts keep us out of that transformative path because we have become imprisoned.
- 15:36SPEAKER_01: But when we flip the order on its head and we go with God's order, remember, order is really critical.
- 15:44SPEAKER_01: I give the example of scripture again where God talks about order, is in Genesis, they talk about the story of Cain and Abel.
- 15:51SPEAKER_01: Both Cain and Abel tithed, but one had favor, one did not.
- 15:55SPEAKER_01: It gave over the course of time where Abel gave his first and best.
- 15:59SPEAKER_01: They both had the habit right, but one of them only had the order right.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: He wants your first and best.
- 16:05SPEAKER_01: And so when we come back to this, you have to have the order right in how we function.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: So you have to come back to spirit connection first.
- 16:13SPEAKER_01: Who does God say you are?
- 16:15SPEAKER_01: When you know who God says you are and you're connected in the spirit, it frees your heart.
- 16:19SPEAKER_01: It's like, man, I'm exactly where I need to be.
- 16:22SPEAKER_01: I know exactly how to do this.
- 16:24SPEAKER_01: I'm doing this out of worship, not out of obligation.
- 16:28SPEAKER_01: I'm making sure that I'm in the exact place that I need to.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: And thus it renews your mind.
- 16:33SPEAKER_01: It's like, man, I know that I'm not perfect, but I know I'm on a journey.
- 16:37SPEAKER_01: I know that I'm exactly where I need to be.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: I know that I'm not a sick person trying to get healthy.
- 16:42SPEAKER_01: I'm a healthy person fighting sickness.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: There's a very different mindset.
- 16:46SPEAKER_01: Then and only then do we get to the body, the physical component that he's now able to lead you in what you do, which is why the way I wrote holy health is it's we need to know who we are so we can identify what we do, so we can let God tell us how to do it, and only then, after the course of time, will we get the pleasure of figuring out why he had us do that in the first place?
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: I know you use the word disintegration a lot, and I think I heard you say it already in here.
- 17:13SPEAKER_00: How does that tie to what you're talking about right here with the knowing who we are and then what we do and then making moves from there?
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:22SPEAKER_01: So when we think about health, we think physical health.
- 17:25SPEAKER_01: We've got our personal trainer, we've got our diet that we're following, but we've maybe got some sleek things that we're doing, we've got a wearable device.
- 17:32SPEAKER_01: But then we go, oh, mental health I've got to focus on now.
- 17:35SPEAKER_01: So we go and we get a therapist, we might have a counselor, and then we're like, I need uh emotional health, I've also been talked about.
- 17:43SPEAKER_01: I, you know what, I need to start journaling, I need to start really thinking about some things differently, and then spiritual health.
- 17:49SPEAKER_01: I need to go to church on Sunday, maybe I'll meet with my pastor once a month or once a quarter.
- 17:54SPEAKER_01: And this is now how I'm looking after everything.
- 17:57SPEAKER_01: But you've siloed all of these different components of health, and because you've siloed them and disintegrated them, they never integrate together and actually create wholeness.
- 18:08SPEAKER_01: And so you go to the gym and you're like, I hate this, this sucks.
- 18:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, because you have not understood that going to the gym is actually connected to your spiritual health, which is actually connected to your mental health, which is actually connected to your emotional health, which actually has a core root back to your physical health.
- 18:24SPEAKER_01: They're all one, they were never meant to be separated.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Because when God created man, he created him as one integrated being.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: And if you we look at scripture, we will only continue to see the expression of how God designed us in such a powerful way.
- 18:43SPEAKER_01: There's there's 30 trillion cells that synergistically work internally within our body.
- 18:50SPEAKER_01: Every 84 days, 500 million of those cells become completely brand new.
- 18:54SPEAKER_01: Every five to seven years, you, me, and everybody else listening to this podcast becomes a brand new cellular human being.
- 19:01SPEAKER_01: Brand new.
- 19:02SPEAKER_01: And so the question becomes, well, why do we get sick?
- 19:05SPEAKER_01: Why do we age?
- 19:07SPEAKER_01: Why do we get diseases and then they don't reverse right away?
- 19:13SPEAKER_01: Why do we have medicine?
- 19:15SPEAKER_01: Why do we have all these chemotherapies and drugs?
- 19:20SPEAKER_01: Because what we've done is we've tried to do medicine's way, we've tried to do wellness biohacking's way, but we've never actually tried to do it God's way.
- 19:28SPEAKER_01: The truth is that you were created to heal, designed to thrive.
- 19:32SPEAKER_01: The question becomes, okay, what do cells need?
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Cells need oxygen, cells need the ability to detoxify, and cells need nutrients.
- 19:41SPEAKER_01: But we're all walking around oxygen depleted, highly toxic, and nutrient depleted.
- 19:48SPEAKER_01: And so even these new cells coming into the body go into a toxic environment.
- 19:54SPEAKER_01: Even the new cells, the body doing what it's supposed to do, the way we live, our habits and our behaviors have conformed to the pattern of the world.
- 20:04SPEAKER_01: Thus, we are actually just dying sacrifices.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: I'm grateful you're talking about this because, first of all, I love the science and the physiology you're bringing into it.
- 20:17SPEAKER_00: Because I used to teach pathphysiology, advanced health assessment, advanced pharmacology for current nurses, soon-to-be nurse practitioners.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: And then I also worked in bone marrow transplant and inpatient hematology.
- 20:27SPEAKER_00: And so much of what we did, we had this saying back at the time, and I'll just say before I say it, a little context.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: It was something that if you don't laugh, you'll cry sometimes in some of those scenarios.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: And we would be taking care of patients, and at times we'd say, This feels like we're rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic, right?
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: We've got these core issues that now at this point we're trying to restore, realign.
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: And at times you're like, okay, but does our job even exist if we are fundamentally shifting how we're living in the first place?
- 21:05SPEAKER_00: So my entire career was in, I know you'll know the term, but tertiary health, right?
- 21:10SPEAKER_00: So it's all reactive.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: It's all you've gotten sick, you've gone through these things and working in the medical ICU and in these areas.
- 21:17SPEAKER_00: What I realized was is that one of the things that people needed most in those settings was spiritual health.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: And it was one of the things that we would offer last, you know, it's only when, it's only when you're dying that we say, would you like your priest or a pastor to come in?
- 21:35SPEAKER_00: It's only when you've gotten really bad news or we've decided that medicine can't save this that we're gonna invite that in.
- 21:42SPEAKER_00: And that was always so fascinating to me.
- 21:44SPEAKER_00: That wasn't the first thing that we did.
- 21:45SPEAKER_00: And so you're just kind of you're connecting a few dots for me as as you're talking.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: And you know, you talk about this conforming to the world, I think we're seeing in our healthcare system today.
- 21:55SPEAKER_00: And also, I know you talk about this as well.
- 21:58SPEAKER_00: I see the flip of this in the wellness industry.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: This idea that again, we can still put that physical body first.
- 22:04SPEAKER_00: We can still just focus on, like you said, cellular health and making sure our telomeres stay as long as possible and doing all of these things.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: And we're not putting first things first.
- 22:15SPEAKER_00: We're not seeking the kingdom of God and his righteousness first.
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: We're not owning the fact that we are spiritual beings in these physical bodies first.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:25SPEAKER_00: And it is, it's very disintegrating.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: And I don't mean lower versus higher in terms of importance, but maybe I do.
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: We're treating these lower physical things, like you said, these things that we can see in the visible realm.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: And we're really leaving the incredibly important, I would say, the part that gets to get centered most, which is that connection to God, that relationship with God.
- 22:44SPEAKER_01: I think for everybody listening, give a couple cool examples here.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: Please, yes.
- 22:48SPEAKER_01: I think the church has it wrong, and I think the world has it wrong.
- 22:52SPEAKER_01: And that's a very bold statement that a lot of people Hey, I like it.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: And I'm curious to hear how you back it up.
- 22:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 22:59SPEAKER_01: Because when let's go to the world, you give a great example, right?
- 23:02SPEAKER_01: Is that we can take the wellness space, the biohacking space.
- 23:05SPEAKER_01: It becomes the idol.
- 23:06SPEAKER_01: It's like I'm gonna track every metric, I'm gonna look how long my telomeres are, I'm gonna do blood draws every quarter, I'm gonna go and I'm gonna sleep in a hyperbaric auction chamber.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna go and do everything possible.
- 23:17SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna spend tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands, in some cases millions of dollars.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: And it has become the idol.
- 23:24SPEAKER_01: It has become obsessive, the thing that we focus on the most, and we push and we push and we push and we push and we push and we go, we go, and we go.
- 23:31SPEAKER_01: And you see them Brian Johnson.
- 23:33SPEAKER_01: Brian Johnson spends two million dollars a year.
- 23:35SPEAKER_01: The guy's gotten uber famous because he was a tech guru that now is live forever, he says.
- 23:41SPEAKER_01: And two weeks ago he was diagnosed with an autoimmune disorder called gastrite.
- 23:45SPEAKER_01: And when you're obsessive about your health, you've missed the point.
- 23:49SPEAKER_01: You've missed the whole aspect.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: And whenever I go into the biohacking world, when I go and I present it these different conferences around the world that is biohacking-esque or biohacking focus or wellness focus, the spiritual side is just connect to the sun, the moon, the stars, go and get your breath work in nature and you feel at peace and you feel these different things.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, you feel at peace and you feel this shift because you've connected to not nature, but the creator of nature.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:15SPEAKER_01: Let's come back to and call it what it is.
- 24:17SPEAKER_01: Let's start disguising it as this meta, this meta-spiritual component.
- 24:23SPEAKER_01: So we either idolize it or what happens on the church side is we go in and then we over-spiritualize it.
- 24:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 24:31SPEAKER_01: And and I'll give this example.
- 24:38SPEAKER_01: And about 3,000 men.
- 24:41SPEAKER_01: And we're in there, and I give this sermon, this keynote, whatever you want to call it at this men's event.
- 24:47SPEAKER_01: And uh 700 men come forward looking for some form of healing, and that were crying out.
- 24:54SPEAKER_01: There's cancer, there's diabetes, there's depression, there's suicidal ideation, there's you name it across the board, everything from mental, physical, spiritual, emotional health that they're struggling with.
- 25:05SPEAKER_01: And for an hour we warred over this.
- 25:09SPEAKER_01: We cried out to the Lord, we were on our knees, people laying hands, worshiping, giving thanks in advance, declaring health and healing.
- 25:17SPEAKER_01: And the moment we walk out of that church, we go to the greenery area, right in the middle of it, and there's donut trucks, there's salty pretzels, there's sugary coffees, and all the things happen in there.
- 25:29SPEAKER_01: There's bacon and sausage breakfast.
- 25:33SPEAKER_01: And I'm watching the same people we just prayed over go and pack a plate like it's their last meal, suck back these drinks that are sending their blood sugar through the roof.
- 25:45SPEAKER_01: And so we pray to God for healing, but yet we treat his greatest creation like a rented vehicle.
- 25:56SPEAKER_01: How do these things make sense?
- 25:58SPEAKER_01: People are very fast and very quick to push back and challenge the biohacking space and say, You've completely left God out of this.
- 26:07SPEAKER_01: I'll sit here at the same time and look at the church and say, You've completely left yourself out of this.
- 26:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 26:15SPEAKER_01: You're asking for healing, and God's sitting here going, When are you gonna take ownership of this?
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: When are you gonna stop putting everything on me?
- 26:24SPEAKER_01: And I believe in miracles, I believe in for sure healing because I've seen it, but I also believe in the power of partnership.
- 26:31SPEAKER_01: I also believe in the power of stewardship, I also believe in the power of obedience.
- 26:35SPEAKER_01: And when Paul said in Romans 12, 1, use your body as a living sacrifice, it says in scripture, obedience is greater than sacrifice.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: So be a living sacrifice, be fully alive for him because you've been so obedient to what he's called you to do.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: And when you go through scripture, you can only ever see a manual for how to live, how to sleep, how to eat, how to train, how to hydrate, how to have life balance, how to manage stress, how to do these things.
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Because so many of us go through these, what I call the devil cycle, which is I'm all in, I'm idolizing my body, I'm idolizing my habits, these have become the obsessive things in my nature, or we flip the script completely and we ignore the greatest wisdom piece that we've ever been given, which is our bodies, the greatest thing that has ever been created, which is our bodies, and we ignore the wisdom that exists within it.
- 27:30SPEAKER_01: Because if the Holy Spirit truly lives inside of this thing, then what do you think the enemy's gonna attack first?
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And we should not idolize, we should not ignore, but more importantly, we should see ourselves in God's image, and thus every habit, every behavior is not the goal, but simply the path to the goal to become more like Christ so that we can use this thing to love at a greater capacity.
- 27:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I very much participated in the ignore versus idolize.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: I would work 20 hour shifts and would be doing some of these biohacking things like ketones, and I'm like, oh yeah, I'm like not eating for 60 hours, which here's the thing fasting, beautiful.
- 28:11SPEAKER_00: Like a fast done in a biblical way, again, centering the reasoning why behind it, beautiful.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: And the idolization of the progress, right?
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: And the metrics and the how far can I go?
- 28:25SPEAKER_00: How much can I push this?
- 28:26SPEAKER_00: And then also the data I get back, like how much better can it get?
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: And on the flip side of that, ignoring okay, if I'm working 60 to 80 hour weeks, and one of those shifts at minimum is a 20-hour shift, and I'm working night shift to those other ones, and I've got these little kids, and I'm sleeping in these ways.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Like now, to be clear, it is a privilege to be able to, we all get to make choices, and some of us, what's available versus what's not, I want to own that.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: And there were a lot of choices that I had that I was like, but I don't really have a choice.
- 29:02SPEAKER_00: This is just what it is.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: And so I can see a lot of people walking out of that conference and being like, This is the food that's available to me, Justin.
- 29:08SPEAKER_00: What do you want me to do?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: And also there's choices, right?
- 29:13SPEAKER_00: So I see that a lot in our society today.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: We talk about not conforming to the world.
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: It's that there is this mentality around it is what it is, our food's full of toxins, it's that resignation, it is what it is.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: And I think that, like you said, there's this we can't ignore it, but we also can't idolize it.
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: And we've got to find that I don't I don't even want to say it's the middle because I don't see it as the middle.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: I think it's a different option entirely.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: I think it's the flip side of the coin, which is like you said, I'm gonna center in this.
- 29:47SPEAKER_00: And just a quick example, I alcohol has always been like my, I like to say my numbing choice if I'm gonna go to something.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: There's nothing else really, social media, maybe.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: And so over the last several years, that's something that in my own strength, I've really worked to decrease because I'm like, I know the health impacts of this.
- 30:05SPEAKER_00: And it's only been recently, I actually wrote about this yesterday, that a few weeks ago in church, I just heard God say, the only wine, the only alcohol I want you touching is in communion.
- 30:16SPEAKER_00: And I was like, okay.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: And all of a sudden, I won't say that the journey with alcohol, it's not that it's easier, but having practiced that obedience, having practiced my identity as a child of God and I am obedient to him when he gives me direction, I do it.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm allowed to feel however I feel about it, and I'm still gonna do it, right?
- 30:35SPEAKER_00: The feelings aren't gonna surpass the obedience.
- 30:38SPEAKER_00: It's been really fascinating just over the last several weeks of like how it has felt to say no to those things, even when people around me are doing them, because it's like I know that this is as a child of God what he's calling me to do.
- 30:51SPEAKER_00: So I'm just gonna do it.
- 30:52SPEAKER_00: And I would love for you to speak a little bit more about that because I think that obedience piece is something that is definitely a conversation that I think is missing out in the world.
- 31:02SPEAKER_00: And when it does happen, a lot of times it's like you said, it's very restrictive.
- 31:05SPEAKER_00: It's probably the connected to the perfectionist heart, I would think, of the all or nothing.
- 31:10SPEAKER_01: When I was writing Holy Health, started about two, two and a half years ago.
- 31:16SPEAKER_01: Obviously, I was reading every science book you could imagine.
- 31:20SPEAKER_01: My educational background brought me through copious studies and deep research and analysis, and I just love that.
- 31:29SPEAKER_01: I love learning, I love reading.
- 31:32SPEAKER_01: And the Lord said to me, He goes, I don't want you to read any book other than mine.
- 31:37SPEAKER_01: And for two and a half years it's the only book I read.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 31:42SPEAKER_01: And all I could see was a health book as I started to read it.
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: I took every aspect of it.
- 31:48SPEAKER_01: Hey, the scripture point of for some things, fasting and prayer is the only way to healing.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Well, that aligns heavily with fasting and autophagy and what happens at the cellular level.
- 32:03SPEAKER_01: But the world again has manipulated what fasting really looks like.
- 32:08SPEAKER_01: And hey, we should be intermittent fasting.
- 32:11SPEAKER_01: Do a 16-8 fast, do a 24-hour fast, do a 36-hour fast.
- 32:15SPEAKER_01: And it's like, okay, we're during these fasts, I'm just not gonna sit with the family, I'm not gonna go and serve them during that, I'm not gonna be around food, I'm just gonna keep myself busy, I'm just gonna work through lunch, I'm just gonna do a workout that would approach originally be in that place, and that that's not fasting, that's just not eating.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: Big vast difference as to what fasting is, yeah, and what the world says fasting is.
- 32:42SPEAKER_01: And so as you understand the habit and the obedience that comes with it, it becomes very critical.
- 32:47SPEAKER_01: You come back to the cell, and this is where I want to bring it back to.
- 32:50SPEAKER_01: If you know what this body needs, how it was created, cells need three things.
- 32:56SPEAKER_01: They need oxygen, they need detoxification, and they need uh nutrients.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: Let's just stick with these three things for a second.
- 33:05SPEAKER_01: So if it needs oxygen, oxygen is a key component of what cells need in order to function.
- 33:10SPEAKER_01: You get 500 million become brand new every 84 days.
- 33:13SPEAKER_01: That means we want the new cells coming into a hyper-oxygenated environment.
- 33:16SPEAKER_01: What do we need to do?
- 33:18SPEAKER_01: In scripture, and I'm just gonna give you one example in each, there's hundreds of each that I've built into holy health that are the what and the habits, but first we have to come back into the why, because again, in scripture it says you can't put new wine into old wine skins.
- 33:33SPEAKER_01: It's like, oh, that's a great scripture.
- 33:35SPEAKER_01: I've heard that before.
- 33:36SPEAKER_01: You can't put new wine into old wine skins because when we put new wine into old wineskins, it ferments, it expands, it bursts at the seams, and the new wine is wasted.
- 33:45SPEAKER_01: You can't put new habits into old identities.
- 33:50SPEAKER_01: Because what happens is you haven't created space for the new habits to be consistent, which is why you don't think that you're a consistent person.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: I'm inconsistent, I can't stick with something.
- 34:02SPEAKER_01: I yo-yo throughout the entire year.
- 34:04SPEAKER_01: I start working out, then I stop working out.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: I start going to bed at this time, then I stop going to bed at this time.
- 34:09SPEAKER_01: I do this to start, and then once I get busy, it falls off because you still see yourself as the old person.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: There's a story that I lead every keynote with.
- 34:18SPEAKER_01: My last year in the NHL, I went down and I consulted for the Navy SEALs.
- 34:22SPEAKER_01: I saw 100 men and women across the seashore, and they're getting hit by waves.
- 34:26SPEAKER_01: And on a whistle, they'd army crawl through the sand, and then they'd get up into the ladders, they go into the blackhawks, they'd fly over the water, they jump into the water, they grab 250-pound dummies, they drag them back to shore, they'd wait, they continued that drill for about 11 hours.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the drill, I went to the captain, I said, Captain, I'm looking at these hundred people, we probably lost 25 today because they didn't complete it.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: I said, How how do you know how many you're gonna get out of this class?
- 34:51SPEAKER_01: He goes, I knew how many Navy SEALs we were gonna have even before we started.
- 34:55SPEAKER_01: I said, How?
- 34:56SPEAKER_01: He goes, Because in their interviews when I started with them, the people who will become a Navy SEAL are the people who already see themselves as Navy SEALs.
- 35:04SPEAKER_01: So the drill that we just did wasn't something they have to pass, that's just something that they do.
- 35:11SPEAKER_01: Tomorrow when we drown them in the water, that's not something they have to just get through, but that's just something that they have to endure because it's who they are.
- 35:20SPEAKER_01: And so many of us wear the label of entrepreneur, of father, of mother, and all we've ever seen is an entrepreneur that burns himself out, entrepreneur that burns herself out, an entrepreneur that works and serves everybody else and looks after themselves last, a person that ultimately worships money more than they do family, and they struggle with being present when they're at home, but then they just want to be with their family when they're at work.
- 35:46SPEAKER_01: They figure that if I don't focus on business enough, I'll worry about finances.
- 35:50SPEAKER_01: But if I only focus on finances, I can't enjoy where we're at.
- 35:53SPEAKER_01: And so it's this struggle and this duration because that's the only identity you've ever worked with, but that identity that you're working with has ultimately led to dysfunctional patterns that have led to dysfunctional cellular environments that have led to your disease long term.
- 36:06SPEAKER_01: And so this is just the path that we're working with because we're conforming to what we know is true.
- 36:11SPEAKER_01: And so the pattern interrupt is knowing who God says you are and coming back to his design and his flow and his life rhythms, that then once you have life rhythms set that change, you have habits that now fit.
- 36:21SPEAKER_01: And the first thing we have to come back to is the cell and what does it need?
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: And there's three things it needs oxygen, intoxification, and nutrients.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: And when we think about oxygen is the life force for the cell, what does it say?
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: In Genesis, God breathed through the nostrils and man was created.
- 36:38SPEAKER_01: If we do breath work every single day, there's a breath work I teach, it's called holy breath.
- 36:42SPEAKER_01: It only breathes through the nostrils.
- 36:44SPEAKER_01: And what it does is it creates a hyperoxygenated effect in the cellular environment.
- 36:49SPEAKER_01: It's called the cyclic psi, and science will show you that when you go through the cyclic psi, it creates a parasympathetic response, meaning a downregulation of your nervous system, an increase in oxygen sensitivity.
- 36:59SPEAKER_01: And thus what happens is now your body becomes hyperoxygenated.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: You start to do that daily, you start to find a natural energy.
- 37:07SPEAKER_01: We can talk about health, we can talk about fitness, we can talk about all we want in the oxygen side, but let's just start there for a second.
- 37:12SPEAKER_01: Science and scripture align.
- 37:16SPEAKER_01: Detoxification.
- 37:18SPEAKER_01: There's something in a cell that we've talked about sleep all the time.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: The only way the deep body detoxifies is four ways.
- 37:25SPEAKER_01: There's four pathways stool, urine, sweat, and breath.
- 37:29SPEAKER_01: If we do our breath work, that looks after breath because we're actually blowing off more toxins and that one's open.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Amazing.
- 37:36SPEAKER_01: Well, when we think about how we sleep at night, sleep quality is the language of how well we are detoxifying.
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Why?
- 37:44SPEAKER_01: Because there's something when we sleep called the glymphatic system.
- 37:48SPEAKER_01: The glymphatic system, think of it like the street sweeper for the cell or the garbage man for the cell that grabs all the toxins from the body.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: So everything that the liver detoxified, everything that the kidneys detoxified, everything that the stomach and intestines have detoxified, everything.
- 38:04SPEAKER_01: It goes in and it purifies everything, everything through the brain, the beta amyloids, the tau proteins, the things that cause Alzheimer's dementia, gets rid of all of these toxins, gathers them all up, and puts them in the appropriate external pathways to get rid of them in the morning.
- 38:18SPEAKER_01: Here's the key part that people don't know and don't understand.
- 38:22SPEAKER_01: The glymphatic system is like a light switch, and it only turns on during your deepest stages of sleep.
- 38:30SPEAKER_01: Right in slow wave.
- 38:32SPEAKER_01: And as entrepreneurs, as business owners, as high capacity people, what's the thing we usually give up first?
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: Sleep.
- 38:37SPEAKER_01: Sleep.
- 38:39SPEAKER_01: And so the reason you wake up foggy brain, the reason you wake up fatigued, the reason you wake up feeling like you are not yourself is because you're not detoxifying, you're recycling simply because the glymphatic system has not been on, and thus, even though you're sweating, even though you're breathing, even though you're doing these things, you're defecating and urinating, even though you're doing the things that are supposed to get rid of the toxins, you're not getting rid of them at the rate necessary because the glymphatic system has not done its job because you did not follow how things were supposed to go.
- 39:09SPEAKER_01: We come back to science first.
- 39:10SPEAKER_01: What determines whether you get into these deep states of sleep?
- 39:15SPEAKER_01: The circadian rhythm.
- 39:16SPEAKER_01: Circadian rhythm is determined by hormonal cycled hormonal regulation of cortisol and melatonin.
- 39:24SPEAKER_01: We come now into scripture.
- 39:26SPEAKER_01: What was the very first thing that God created?
- 39:30SPEAKER_01: Light.
- 39:31SPEAKER_01: What regulates your circadian rhythm?
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: Light and darkness.
- 39:38SPEAKER_01: And it says in scripture, evening came, morning came first day.
- 39:45SPEAKER_01: Repeats five times.
- 39:47SPEAKER_01: We think our morning starts when we wake up, or our day starts when we wake up, and our day ends when we go to bed and fall in exhausted.
- 39:55SPEAKER_01: That's the world's way, not God's way.
- 39:57SPEAKER_01: We have it backwards.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: And so suddenly, if evening time became sacred time, downregulating time, where we were able to prepare ourselves for the most important thing we will do, which is sleep, and we didn't have all these blue lights on, we didn't have all the work that we do at night, were sending emails until 11 or 12 o'clock at night, weren't watching TV and falling asleep to it while having it on.
- 40:17SPEAKER_01: If we honored the, as scripture said, sacred seasons, created sun, moon, and stars on day three for sacred seasons, then suddenly we would honor the circadian rhythm, which would help us get into deeper sleep stages, which would ultimately detoxify our body, which would mean our cellular environment was clean, not toxic, and the new cells would come into a clean, not toxic environment.
- 40:42SPEAKER_01: We go to nutrients.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: And sure, the food we eat is not what our ancestors were eating.
- 40:49SPEAKER_01: The food and the nutrient density is not what it once was.
- 40:52SPEAKER_01: We start to look at our genetic makeups.
- 40:54SPEAKER_01: There's something in our DNA called a methylation pathway.
- 40:57SPEAKER_01: MTHFR or MTRR is some genetic breaks that we have.
- 41:03SPEAKER_01: But if we have a methylated break in one of those, it means we don't absorb man-made nutrients.
- 41:08SPEAKER_01: And about 71% of us have this g mutation.
- 41:12SPEAKER_01: Doesn't mean that you're bad.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: It just means that you can't break down mad-made nutrients.
- 41:17SPEAKER_01: So if you go and have folic acid, it will turn into a toxin because folic acid is a man-made nutrient of folate, where what you actually need is five methyl tetrafolate.
- 41:28SPEAKER_01: And so if you look at your multivitamin, it probably has folic acid.
- 41:32SPEAKER_01: If you look at the bread you eat, it probably has enriched flour, which has folic acid in it.
- 41:37SPEAKER_01: You look at your spaghetti or your pasta that you eat, it probably has enriched flour, which has folic acid in it.
- 41:44SPEAKER_01: All of those things become toxins that your body cannot break down, and it shows up in a blood panel that looks at homocysteine.
- 41:50SPEAKER_01: The average level of homocysteine should be less than four.
- 41:52SPEAKER_01: What we see in our clients is greater than 39.
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: And so it's 10 times more toxic than we should be.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: And so you see all of this, and we are now depleted at the cellular level.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: We don't have the nutrients necessary.
- 42:05SPEAKER_01: We might have them in our bloodstream, but we're not absorbing them into the cell for the body to use.
- 42:09SPEAKER_01: So we're nutrient depleted.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: How does scripture talk about this?
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: What it says is that he in the Garden of Eden created these beautiful, lush plants, these beautiful, lush places that were pleasing to the eye and good for food.
- 42:28SPEAKER_01: God wants us to have things that are pleasing to the eye.
- 42:31SPEAKER_01: He wants us to have good food.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: It then later says and I just love scripture because it is so clarifying in so many different ways.
- 42:39SPEAKER_01: It says, their fruit shall be used for nourishment and their leaves for healing.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: We've already been given the foods that we need, but the world has manipulated it.
- 42:50SPEAKER_01: So what does it look like to eat more of what God made us rather than what man gave us?
- 42:56SPEAKER_01: And so when we start to look at this and we start to live in accordance, and those are just three really quick examples to try to intangible, is now all of a sudden you're oxygenated.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: Now all of a sudden you're detoxified, and now all of a sudden you are nutrient dense.
- 43:12SPEAKER_01: When you have these three things, suddenly, my gosh, why does the weight just fall off?
- 43:16SPEAKER_01: My gosh, why does my brain fog go away?
- 43:18SPEAKER_01: My gosh, why do I sleep so much deeper?
- 43:20SPEAKER_01: My gosh, why do I feel so much more energetic?
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: My gosh, why does the inflammation that would cause all of my autoimmune disorders to flare up now no longer happen?
- 43:28SPEAKER_01: Because you healed God's way, not man's way.
- 43:30SPEAKER_01: And at the end of the day, you were created to heal, designed to thrive, but we can't do it our way, we can't do it medicine's way, we can't do it wellness's way, we have to do it God's way, but in order to do it God's way, we have to understand what our body's asking us.
- 43:43SPEAKER_01: And when all of those things are done, when all of those things are in place, when we are looking at oxygen, detoxification, and nutrients, it ultimately says to our body that we are safe, says to our body that we can heal, says to our body that we can do what it is we are called to do, and there's Single unified metric.
- 44:02SPEAKER_01: Love this.
- 44:04SPEAKER_01: In our body, called heart rate variability, is the governing metric that is communicating to us how well our body is adapting to stress based on our habits, behaviors, and life rhythms.
- 44:16SPEAKER_01: Meaning, is our body at the cellular level getting what it needs based upon how we are living?
- 44:21SPEAKER_01: Yes or no?
- 44:23SPEAKER_01: A high HRV indicates that yes, it's getting what it needs based on the habits, behaviors, and life rhythms that you're instituting.
- 44:30SPEAKER_01: A low HRV indicates that it's not.
- 44:34SPEAKER_01: That is science.
- 44:35SPEAKER_01: Scripture says, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life, and all things flow from it.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: God gave our heart a language for us to communicate and understand.
- 44:49SPEAKER_01: Not one thing to have knowledge, but it's a whole nother thing to have understanding.
- 44:52SPEAKER_01: Solomon said, seek understanding to gain wisdom.
- 44:56SPEAKER_01: And so as we sit here and we look at this, God gave our heart a language to communicate to us how well our body is handling stress and strain.
- 45:05SPEAKER_01: To say, hey, son or daughter, I need you to do something different.
- 45:09SPEAKER_01: This is not your true and proper worship.
- 45:11SPEAKER_01: This is not holy and pleasing to me.
- 45:12SPEAKER_01: The one thing that I'm dwelling in, I need you to do something different.
- 45:15SPEAKER_01: You've conformed to the patterns of the world, and I need you to do something different.
- 45:18SPEAKER_01: I need to transform you by the renewing of your mind because the will that I have for you is not being done in how you're operating right now.
- 45:25SPEAKER_01: So here's your sign.
- 45:27SPEAKER_01: Heart rate variability.
- 45:28SPEAKER_01: When it's low, where do I go?
- 45:30SPEAKER_01: One of those three things are missing at the cell: toxins, detoxification, nutrients, or oxygen.
- 45:36SPEAKER_01: One of those three things is missing.
- 45:38SPEAKER_01: So let's make sure we get back to it.
- 45:40SPEAKER_01: And this is how I've designed you.
- 45:42SPEAKER_01: So please listen to the whispers.
- 45:45SPEAKER_01: Because God never talks loudly, he talks in whispers.
- 45:48SPEAKER_01: You talk about how under the broom tree, suddenly, as he got that message, and Elijah's sitting there, the angel goes, Hey, go out to the mountain.
- 45:59SPEAKER_01: The Lord's gonna pass by.
- 46:00SPEAKER_01: It says there was a storm, there was a fire, and there was a wind.
- 46:06SPEAKER_01: God wasn't in any of those.
- 46:08SPEAKER_01: And he waited.
- 46:10SPEAKER_01: And then it says, Then there was a whisper.
- 46:14SPEAKER_01: And so suddenly he heard from God, and our bodies are whispering to us.
- 46:19SPEAKER_01: It is literally the thing that carries the Holy Spirit.
- 46:22SPEAKER_01: The whispers come, but we're too busy, we're running too fast, we're doing things we think we're trying to add and stack, while all of a sudden depleting ourselves in ways that weren't necessary simply because we don't understand what our body needs, because we don't understand the metrics, but we don't understand scripture.
- 46:40SPEAKER_01: And the moment we take sides in scripture and align them, we don't heal the world's way, we heal God's way, and the inevitable outcome is life abundantly.
- 46:49SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna have to go back and listen to this a few times because it's such a robust picture of what is happening internally, and also I love how you're connecting it both to scripture and the macrocosm of all of this.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: And I think one of the things that we talk about a lot, because a lot of our listeners have come over from my previous business and from a trauma education perspective and a nervous system regulation perspective.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: And when we talk about heart rate variability, one of the things that I see, for instance, nurses and women in healthcare professions have a really high rate of POTS, postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome.
- 47:26SPEAKER_00: And what's fascinating is a lot of women who go into the nursing profession, they do it because they want to help, they want to fix.
- 47:32SPEAKER_00: And I'm sure that we could probably connect them to one of those five hearts that you were speaking about.
- 47:38SPEAKER_00: And as somebody who had that diagnosis and did nervous system regulation, breath work, like a lot of focusing in on nourishing and restoring physically, a lot of those symptoms went away.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: And a good amount of what was also happening, and this is actually what led us to shift from just teaching nervous system regulation in the way that we were from a trauma perspective and really incorporating God's word and scripture.
- 48:05SPEAKER_00: Was I'm gonna just say it simply, Jesus is the ultimate nervous system regulator because when he enters into our hearts, like you were just talking about, and when we truly learn that he lives in that tabernacle of our hearts, it shifts the way that we see things, it shifts the way we view the world, it shifts the way that we understand what's happened to us.
- 48:27SPEAKER_00: And also, one of the things that it did for me was truly recognize, and you mentioned this earlier, was that my body is the tabernacle for the Holy Spirit.
- 48:36SPEAKER_00: I need to treat it accordingly.
- 48:38SPEAKER_01: I add something to I think a lot of times, and again, I'm gonna bring scripture and science back to it, your trauma, especially when it comes to this is again mental, physical, spiritual motion.
- 48:47SPEAKER_01: The body does not know the difference between these forms of stress.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Yes, it does not know the difference between these forms of stress.
- 48:53SPEAKER_01: I repeated that for a reason because a lot of people think, oh, I'm trying to hit a quota at work, I'm in a fight with my spouse, my kids are off on the deep end, and spiritually I feel disconnected.
- 49:05SPEAKER_01: Your body doesn't know the difference between those stressors, all it knows is that it has to keep you alive.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: Yes, and so going back to scripture and going back to this component of anxiety, we're like, man, I've got this anxiety that keeps coming up.
- 49:17SPEAKER_01: What it says in the study that Harvard did, you cannot be stressed, anxious, and grateful at the same time.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 49:25SPEAKER_01: And so everyone's like, okay, I'm gonna have a gratitude journal.
- 49:27SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna just write down what I'm grateful for.
- 49:30SPEAKER_01: And it's like, okay, cool, sure.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: Works in the sense of like feeling grateful for the moment.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: You gotta keep coming back to gratitude, gratitude.
- 49:38SPEAKER_01: In our in holy health, I call it vitamin G.
- 49:41SPEAKER_01: The only vitamin that the body does not make by itself.
- 49:44SPEAKER_01: It's the only vitamin that you cannot buy in stores, it's the only one that does not exist on Amazon, vitamin G.
- 49:50SPEAKER_01: It's gratitude.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 49:51SPEAKER_01: But you come over to Scripture, and this is where everybody gets this verse wrong.
- 49:58SPEAKER_01: They stop too early.
- 50:00SPEAKER_01: They go, do not be anxious about anything, but rather with prayer and petition over everything.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: And that's where they stop.
- 50:09SPEAKER_01: They're so they're like praying, praying, but they're praying in bitterness, they're praying in resentment, they're praying in frustration, they're praying in complaining, they're praying in wishes, and what the actual scripture says is do not be anxious about anything, but rather pray over everything through prayer and petition with thanksgiving.
- 50:30SPEAKER_00: Thanksgiving, yeah.
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: With thanksgiving, with thanksgiving.
- 50:35SPEAKER_01: And when you pray with thanksgiving, my goodness, what would that be called?
- 50:40SPEAKER_01: Right gratitude.
- 50:41SPEAKER_01: And so in this aspect of understanding that science is only ever saying what scripture has already known, but because we don't understand, we actually don't walk in it, we don't know what it's all about.
- 50:54SPEAKER_01: And so if somebody's trying to build, and this is where I'll go back to the habits and the systems, if somebody's trying to build a habit of being grateful, and they're like, I'm gonna do my gratitude journal every night, and they're like, This is stupid.
- 51:08SPEAKER_01: Why am I just writing these gratitudes down?
- 51:09SPEAKER_01: Sure, it it helps me.
- 51:11SPEAKER_01: And why do I do these deep breaths all the time?
- 51:14SPEAKER_01: Sure, it helps me.
- 51:15SPEAKER_01: But when suddenly you realize that my gosh, God breathed into my nostrils and I became a man and life was given to me, this is probably pretty important.
- 51:24SPEAKER_01: And now it has a different context to what I'm doing.
- 51:27SPEAKER_01: My goodness, if it says do not be anxious about everything, but rather through prayer and petition, pray over everything with thanksgiving, maybe this gratitude thing is actually something that should be a strategy and something I do daily, not something that I'm forced to do because I think I'm gonna get something out of it.
- 51:43SPEAKER_01: And now suddenly there's a transformation because the heart posture shifts and the heart posture changes.
- 51:49SPEAKER_01: And so when we think now about what I said earlier, you can't put new wine into old wine skins, you can't put new habits into old identities.
- 51:56SPEAKER_01: This is where I'm gonna give a great example.
- 51:58SPEAKER_01: Somebody's like, I want to create a new nighttime routine.
- 52:01SPEAKER_01: I know, Justin, that detoxification is important.
- 52:04SPEAKER_01: I want to get into bed at 10 p.m.
- 52:05SPEAKER_01: every single night.
- 52:06SPEAKER_01: That means at 7 p.m.
- 52:07SPEAKER_01: we're gonna be done dinner, at 8 p.m.
- 52:08SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna be done work.
- 52:09SPEAKER_01: At 9 p.m.
- 52:10SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna shut the TVs and all the screens off so there's no blue light.
- 52:12SPEAKER_01: That's what I want to do.
- 52:14SPEAKER_01: You've got your habits set, and you're gonna go and you're gonna say, This is what we're gonna do, and these are the days we're gonna do it, and this is how we're gonna go and operate with it.
- 52:21SPEAKER_01: But you still see yourself as the person who has to strive, who has to perform.
- 52:25SPEAKER_01: Thus, you put your kids in all the sports that happen between the hours of 6 and 10 p.m.
- 52:30SPEAKER_01: And thus you can't be consistent with it because you're like, man, we've got baseball practice three days a week.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: Man, we've got dance recital two to other days a week, and we're traveling for travel baseball to 47 different states every summer.
- 52:44SPEAKER_00: How'd you know to pick that example?
- 52:45SPEAKER_01: How'd you know?
- 52:47SPEAKER_01: At nine years old, because they're going to make the Major League Baseball and being scouted and recruited at nine.
- 52:53SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 52:55SPEAKER_01: And disrupting everything that you're actually trying to do.
- 52:58SPEAKER_01: You're trying to put new habits into old life rhythms, and it's not until you see who God says you are that you can walk and be obedient and say, No, you know what?
- 53:04SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna honor our evenings, and our evenings are sacred.
- 53:08SPEAKER_01: And after 7 p.m., we as a family are starting to steward our way through.
- 53:13SPEAKER_01: We look at this and this is a whole nother conversation.
- 53:16SPEAKER_01: But there's just as if the Holy Spirit truly dwells on onside of our body, what do you think the enemy's gonna come and attack first?
- 53:22SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 53:23SPEAKER_01: And yes, it's us as adults, but also the enemy's coming after our kids.
- 53:28SPEAKER_01: Oh, absolutely.
- 53:29SPEAKER_01: And so when you start to look at this and you're like, man, I'm eating enriched wheat flour, niacin, riboflavin, folic acid, cynocobalamin as a form of B12 in all of these drinks and all of these packaged goods and all of these things my kids are eating.
- 53:44SPEAKER_01: And we wonder why we're seeing the rise of autism.
- 53:46SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing the rise of ADHD.
- 53:48SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing the rise of autoimmune disorders within children.
- 53:52SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing the obesity rates off the charts.
- 53:54SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing young girls hitting puberty at 9, 10, 11 years old.
- 53:58SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing boys not actually start to mature and see any gross spurts or having issues until 16, 17, 18 years old.
- 54:06SPEAKER_01: We're wondering why we're seeing this simply because we're not living according to how God has called us.
- 54:11SPEAKER_01: And ultimately, it's not just us it's affecting.
- 54:14SPEAKER_01: It is your children and it is the generations coming after you that it's affecting because they are conforming to the same way that their parents did things.
- 54:21SPEAKER_01: And the way that we break chains or the chains that we failed to break are past your kids and the way that we change our legacies is by breaking chains that weren't broken for us for those who come after us.
- 54:30SPEAKER_01: And we suddenly start living this way, when we suddenly stop operating this way, when we suddenly go and say, Hey, I'm gonna read Holy Health and I'm gonna go and understand exactly what's happening in my body.
- 54:39SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna understand this temple differently so that I can do this not only for me, but my children's and my children's children, because they're gonna see me differently.
- 54:47SPEAKER_01: They're gonna look at things differently.
- 54:49SPEAKER_01: It says Deuteronomy 6, verse 6 and 7, these commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts.
- 54:56SPEAKER_01: Impress them on your children.
- 54:58SPEAKER_01: Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, and they will follow.
- 55:03SPEAKER_01: Like, that's the legacy.
- 55:05SPEAKER_01: That's what this is all about.
- 55:06SPEAKER_01: Health is not about you.
- 55:08SPEAKER_01: Health is not about making sure that you have six-pack abs and muscles.
- 55:11SPEAKER_01: It's about so that when people look at you, they're like, man, there's something different about Lee.
- 55:15SPEAKER_01: There's something that's on fire in her.
- 55:17SPEAKER_01: There's an energy, there's a freedom, there's a mental clarity, there's a focus, there's a way she lives, there's a discipline that doesn't seem forced or performative.
- 55:25SPEAKER_01: It just flows because that is the Holy Spirit through you.
- 55:28SPEAKER_01: And thus that becomes your true and proper worship.
- 55:31SPEAKER_01: That becomes the way in which you steward your life, but also the way that you make disciples of all people.
- 55:38SPEAKER_01: Because suddenly they'll come up to you and say, Lee, what is going on?
- 55:40SPEAKER_01: Why are you living this way?
- 55:42SPEAKER_01: What is it that's on you?
- 55:43SPEAKER_01: You want to know what it is?
- 55:44SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you about my God.
- 55:46SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you about Jesus.
- 55:48SPEAKER_01: Let me tell you about the person that saved my life.
- 55:50SPEAKER_01: And thus everything I do, every habit, behavior in my life is worship.
- 55:54SPEAKER_01: My health is worship.
- 55:55SPEAKER_01: How I eat is worship.
- 55:57SPEAKER_01: How I sleep is worship.
- 55:58SPEAKER_01: How I hydrate is worship.
- 55:59SPEAKER_01: How I breathe is worship.
- 56:01SPEAKER_01: How I train is worship.
- 56:02SPEAKER_01: How I manage my day, that is worship.
- 56:04SPEAKER_01: Because how I live is my true and proper worship.
- 56:08SPEAKER_01: This is the living sacrifice for the God who ultimately died on a cross for me and allowed me to be born again so that I could go and now do everything to glorify him.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: This is what that looks like.
- 56:20SPEAKER_01: And when we suddenly start to see that, it changes the way we live, it changes the way we function, and it changes the communities in which we live in.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Mic drop.
- 56:29SPEAKER_00: Like that is absolutely incredible.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: And I love that you tied it back to all the things we talked about, but really again, that legacy piece of what changes.
- 56:37SPEAKER_00: What changes?
- 56:38SPEAKER_00: The last thing I'll say is I recently I've had a few conversations with people.
- 56:43SPEAKER_00: I actually made a TikTok about this last night.
- 56:44SPEAKER_00: Somebody said, Lee, how are you so calm?
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: Why are you so calm lately?
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: I'm watching people like do things and you're not taking the bait.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: And then I had somebody else say, like, I'm just I'm seeing this, this peace and this passion in you.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: And I was like, the the opportunity to get to say, Let me tell you about Jesus.
- 57:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 57:05SPEAKER_00: As a response to that, like that even just brings me to tears as we're talking.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: Like what an honor to be able to, like you said, exemplify that and in that moment to be like, this has nothing to do with me beyond my obedience.
- 57:18SPEAKER_01: We can come back to that.
- 57:19SPEAKER_01: Therefore, brothers and sisters, use your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God.
- 57:26SPEAKER_01: Just stop there for a second.
- 57:27SPEAKER_01: That's why I bring tears to you.
- 57:29SPEAKER_01: Because it's holy and it's pleasing to God, the way that you're doing holy, well done, good and faithful servant.
- 57:35SPEAKER_01: You're learning, getting transforming.
- 57:38SPEAKER_01: You're understanding.
- 57:39SPEAKER_01: You're not who you used to be.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 57:41SPEAKER_01: This is your true and proper worship.
- 57:43SPEAKER_01: This is what it looks like.
- 57:44SPEAKER_01: And this is what we've failed to understand.
- 57:48SPEAKER_01: Our health has a very simplistic and unique design.
- 57:52SPEAKER_01: We are the most complex beings that exist.
- 57:55SPEAKER_01: And social media makes health so complicated.
- 57:58SPEAKER_01: I did, I literally right before I got on here, I filmed a post that's going to be going out.
- 58:03SPEAKER_01: So anybody who sees the post will be like, oh my gosh, we talked about this on the podcast.
- 58:06SPEAKER_01: But a couple days ago, and I don't like naming names, so I'm going to do it anyways.
- 58:11SPEAKER_01: There was a doctor on Mel Robbins' show, and she was making a smoothie.
- 58:16SPEAKER_01: And she goes, The two things you should never put in smoothies together are bananas, because there's something in bananas called polyphenol oxidase, which basically oxidizes the polyphenols that come from the blueberries, and so it cancels out the benefit of the blueberries when you have banana with it.
- 58:33SPEAKER_01: And what you should actually put inside is avocado, because it'll give you the same creaminess of a smoothie.
- 58:40SPEAKER_01: And I'm sitting there going, ah, hold on.
- 58:42SPEAKER_01: This video, because it's on a Mel Robbins podcast, got millions of views, and it came from a doctor who has millions of followers.
- 58:52SPEAKER_01: And so whatever they say must be right.
- 58:54SPEAKER_01: And when you actually go and look at the study that was cited, it was a study that was cited with eight people like a year ago.
- 59:01SPEAKER_01: And then, and then you go, what is in avocado?
- 59:06SPEAKER_01: Polyphenol oxidase.
- 59:09SPEAKER_01: So if it's actually true, then wouldn't if you put an avocado in also do the same thing as a banana?
- 59:14SPEAKER_01: Well, that would completely cancel out my whole reason for doing this.
- 59:18SPEAKER_01: And now I'm just clickbaiting you into something else, thinking, now I can't put bananas and blueberries together because they're bad, but now I can put avocado and blueberries together because you're trying to do something and get me to do something that makes me confused about this thing, and now I don't know what's true and what's not.
- 59:31SPEAKER_01: Oh my gosh.
- 59:34SPEAKER_01: Should I trust you if you're a big podcaster?
- 59:36SPEAKER_01: Should I trust you?
- 59:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know anymore.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 59:40SPEAKER_01: Look at this.
- 59:41SPEAKER_01: Our bodies are the most complex things that were ever made, but anything with God is very simple.
- 59:47SPEAKER_01: And everything I've just said is very simple.
- 59:50SPEAKER_01: Heart rate variability, know it.
- 59:52SPEAKER_01: Literally, your gas gauge for your body.
- 59:54SPEAKER_01: Are you living in alignment with who he's called you to be and what he's designed you to do?
- 59:58SPEAKER_01: Or are you living disintegrated and misaligned?
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_01: It's going to give you a big indication, really quick.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_01: And what's wrong if one of those things is high or low?
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_01: Go to the three things: oxygen, detoxification, and nutrients.
- 1:00:10SPEAKER_01: Oxygen, VO2 max, detoxification, sleep quality, nutrients, cellular deficiencies.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_01: Let's understand these three things.
- 1:00:17SPEAKER_01: And suddenly, guess what?
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_01: You're going to live so simply, you're going to live so differently.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_01: You're going to live so aligned.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_01: You're going to live so integrated that suddenly the only possible outcome, the inevitable outcome, is that you have life abundantly that is different, that is elevated, that is energetic, that is mentally clear, that is focused, that gives you capacity to carry the calling that's on your life because that's what you were made for.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_00: I'm just so grateful you came here.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: I'm personally excited to share this with several like people in my own life who I think will really benefit from it.
- 1:00:47SPEAKER_00: And I know our listeners will too.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: Okay, so Holy Health is officially out.
