- 0:08SPEAKER_01: Hello and welcome to the Glimpse Method Podcast.
- 0:12SPEAKER_01: I have a special guest today, Sheris Courtier Shank.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: Hopefully I'm saying that right, Sheris.
- 0:20SPEAKER_02: Close enough.
- 0:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: So Sheris is um a hypnot uh hypnotherapist, and amongst other things.
- 0:33SPEAKER_01: But I'm just gonna introduce her with her bio here.
- 0:37SPEAKER_01: She helps transform pain into power to create your magic.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: Sharus Cotier Shank is a psycho spiritual therapist, author of The Peace of Mind Blueprint, and a guide for sensitive people who are done surviving and ready to create the magical lives they've always dreamed of.
- 0:59SPEAKER_01: For more than seven years, Sheris has helped empath healers and highly sensitive professionals do what conventional therapy often can't: heal emotional and spiritual wounds at their root in the subconscious mind.
- 1:14SPEAKER_01: Her clients stop sacrificing themselves, begin trusting their own wisdom, and discover the sensitivity they spent years trying to manage.
- 1:28SPEAKER_01: The sensitivity they spent years trying to manage was their greatest gift all along.
- 1:33SPEAKER_01: Ooh, I like that because I am very sensitive.
- 1:37SPEAKER_01: Um, her work sits in the intersection of neuroscience, spirituality, and the subconscious mind, creating lasting change by reaching the place where patterns actually live.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: She was her own first client, and that's exactly why it works.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: All right.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Well, welcome, Sharis.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: Good to see your smiling face.
- 2:02SPEAKER_02: Thank you, Megan.
- 2:03SPEAKER_02: I'm I'm really happy to be here.
- 2:07SPEAKER_01: So can you just tell um us a little bit about your yourself, um, as much or as little as you want to to go into your story, and then we'll go from there.
- 2:23SPEAKER_02: Okay, that's a wide open question.
- 2:25SPEAKER_01: I know.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: You know, as I'm listening to that bio, I realize I need to rewrite it because um what when people come in to work with me, I am always holding an image of them completely healed and living a life where they are guided by their own wisdom.
- 2:54SPEAKER_02: And for sensitive people in particular who often feel like they have to put everyone first, or they have to take care of everybody else's emotional problems.
- 3:09SPEAKER_02: Um, for sensitive people to be truly sovereign in themselves and only listening to their own wisdom, I think is just the magical place that I really want all of us to reach because our sensitivity is really a superpower.
- 3:35SPEAKER_01: I like to hear that, yeah.
- 3:37SPEAKER_02: It gets used against us too often because we don't realize that the population is a spectrum of sensitivity, and we're at one far end of that spectrum.
- 3:58SPEAKER_02: And there's a lot of people in our culture who range from vaguely sensitive to insensitive to completely obtuse.
- 4:09SPEAKER_02: I mean, they wouldn't know a feeling if it ran into them in a truck.
- 4:14SPEAKER_02: And when we assume that other people are feeling what we are feeling, we get hurt.
- 4:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:26SPEAKER_02: Because we think, well, how could they be so cruel?
- 4:30SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:31SPEAKER_02: How could they be so mean?
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 4:34SPEAKER_02: Don't they see this really obvious thing that's happening right in front of their face?
- 4:40SPEAKER_02: Well, chances are no, they don't.
- 4:43SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 4:44SPEAKER_01: And that speaks to me.
- 4:46SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that is a huge adjustment for sensitive people to realize okay, I am feeling things that other people aren't feeling and therefore are not reacting to.
- 5:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 5:04SPEAKER_01: So I know I'm I struggle with feeling like I don't matter because I'm so sensitive that I'm just like, can't they see, you know, and I think a lot of mine stems from I I always oh sorry about my dogs.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: I always um think it comes from having an older brother that just kind of ignored me.
- 5:33SPEAKER_01: And I feel like that might be the root, but I'm I'm not too sure.
- 5:37SPEAKER_01: But I as I um somebody just kind of said this to me that um they feel like I go through this, you know, they're like all these things that you were saying, the root of it is that you feel you don't matter and you keep playing it out all throughout your life, and I am really starting to see that and try and you know nip that in the bud.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: But well, you know, from from my vantage point, when we are sovereign, we know we matter, yeah, we know we matter, and people can no longer manipulate us when we know we matter, yes.
- 6:29SPEAKER_02: It's when we get stuck in that people-pleasing, caretaking, I can help you mode, which is probably true.
- 6:38SPEAKER_02: When we get stuck in that mode, people manipulate us and take advantage of us, yeah, and it's an ugly, ugly thing, and then we're like, Well, how could they do that?
- 6:52SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 6:54SPEAKER_02: I mean, I have literally had people walk into my office and explain what happened and look at me and say, How could they do that?
- 7:05SPEAKER_02: And I I just say, Well, first of all, they're not feeling what you're feeling, right?
- 7:11SPEAKER_02: And second of all, they don't have your value system, and third of all, expecting them to see what you see is really a big mistake, yeah.
- 7:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're only really hurting yourself when you do that, yeah.
- 7:31SPEAKER_02: And that's where boundary setting comes in.
- 7:34SPEAKER_01: Yes, I'm working on that too.
- 7:37SPEAKER_02: I think it's a lifelong project.
- 7:39SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, good.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: I'm glad you say that because at 52 I'm still there.
- 7:45SPEAKER_02: Oh I've had 80-year-olds.
- 7:48SPEAKER_02: We you know, we all start somewhere, it's never too late.
- 7:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but um and boundaries, I love this description.
- 7:59SPEAKER_02: I look at boundaries as if you're giving the person a book that says, here's how to get along with me.
- 8:08SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:10SPEAKER_02: That's a gift, yes, right?
- 8:14SPEAKER_02: You're actually giving somebody the manual that says, if you want to get along with me, here's how you do it.
- 8:19SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 8:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that that the initial thing is, you know, it can be a little bit uncomfortable for people like me to set those boundaries.
- 8:32SPEAKER_01: So the more and more, you know, okay, I just have to get through this little and some people you have to set boundaries over and over again.
- 8:40SPEAKER_02: Um well, then it's not a real boundary.
- 8:43SPEAKER_02: Okay, because boundaries have consequences.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: If you're having to set them over and over again, they're constantly challenging your boundary and there's no consequence.
- 8:57SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 8:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I let's say here's a real simple one.
- 9:04SPEAKER_02: If you touch my dog again, we're not friends anymore.
- 9:08SPEAKER_02: That's the consequence.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: But if it's somebody at work or someplace you have to be, then what would be the consequence you would like them to feel?
- 9:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's a hard one.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Especially for somebody that wants to, you know, get along with people.
- 9:37SPEAKER_02: So I can imagine.
- 9:39SPEAKER_02: So let's make something up.
- 9:41SPEAKER_02: I I'm great at making shit up.
- 9:44SPEAKER_02: Um let's say I'm gonna completely make this up.
- 9:49SPEAKER_02: You're sitting at a desk, you're doing your work, and an associate comes along and starts ragging on you.
- 9:57SPEAKER_02: I mean, that does that sound reasonable as something to me.
- 10:01SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that probably happens.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 10:04SPEAKER_02: In that instance, I think I would stand up, because they're standing, you're seated, they're in the power position.
- 10:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you're not.
- 10:16SPEAKER_02: So I would stand up and say, it's really important to me that I get this work done right now.
- 10:26SPEAKER_02: Could you meet me for coffee after work?
- 10:31SPEAKER_02: Right now, I'm busy.
- 10:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:35SPEAKER_02: But you gotta say it right to their face.
- 10:37SPEAKER_02: Yes, and you gotta be completely okay with it.
- 10:40SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 10:43SPEAKER_02: Whereas many sensitives feel like that's rude.
- 10:50SPEAKER_02: That's being rude.
- 10:53SPEAKER_02: And it's not, it's giving them that instruction book.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 10:59SPEAKER_02: If you want to talk to me, let's have coffee after work.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's probably in the way you deliver it too, you know, you you could say it in a rude way, but you could also say it in just a non-confrontational way.
- 11:14SPEAKER_02: And absolutely, yeah.
- 11:16SPEAKER_02: You could say, you know what, I get it.
- 11:18SPEAKER_02: I uh this is really important, but right now I'm really involved in this project and I have to get it done.
- 11:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:27SPEAKER_02: And I always put my hand up.
- 11:30unknown: Yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_01: Talk to the hand.
- 11:34SPEAKER_02: It's it's like it's like a stop sign.
- 11:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 11:40SPEAKER_02: Before we get let's say you have a parent.
- 11:45SPEAKER_02: That's a big one.
- 11:46SPEAKER_02: A parent that criticizes you continuously.
- 11:51SPEAKER_02: I've had so many people who have had that situation.
- 11:59SPEAKER_02: Now, some people just want to blow the parent off.
- 12:02SPEAKER_02: That's up to them.
- 12:03SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:04SPEAKER_02: And I always stand for let's let's keep things as reasonable as possible.
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:10SPEAKER_02: And say, you know what, mom?
- 12:13SPEAKER_02: You may not be meaning to criticize me, but I'm feeling really criticized, so I'm going home.
- 12:20SPEAKER_02: I'll see you later.
- 12:23SPEAKER_02: You've delivered the message, you've delivered the consequence, and you leave.
- 12:29SPEAKER_02: You don't wait and argue, you leave.
- 12:34SPEAKER_02: There was nothing rude about that.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: No.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 12:40SPEAKER_01: Before we get too much further, I want you to just kind of talk about your story real quick.
- 12:46SPEAKER_01: Um, however much you want to share, but how you, I don't know, your spiritual awakening or what whatever you you're you were overcome something.
- 12:58SPEAKER_02: Well, um, I've always been very spiritually inclined, but I always had to hide it because unlike many, many people, I grew up in a home where anything that could be even vaguely attached to religion was forbidden.
- 13:20SPEAKER_02: Oh, just absolutely forbidden.
- 13:24SPEAKER_02: My father had a rage against religion, okay, and my mother was disappointed in religion, but they didn't make a distinction between spirituality and religion, right?
- 13:40SPEAKER_02: So I always had to hide it, huh?
- 13:44SPEAKER_02: And then I married my husband, who was a damaged Catholic.
- 13:50SPEAKER_02: Yeah, and he felt the same.
- 13:52SPEAKER_02: It's like, don't bring that shit in this house, yeah.
- 13:55SPEAKER_02: You know, so my husband and I were very close.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: He was also an empath, we were very tight, and when he died in 2008, my world collapsed.
- 14:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, but it was the beginning of a much more dedicated spiritual life, okay, because it's all I had to draw on, yeah.
- 14:23SPEAKER_01: And it had been inside you, yeah, probably.
- 14:28SPEAKER_02: So it blossomed, it yeah, it came out in the open.
- 14:32SPEAKER_01: I see that, yeah.
- 14:34SPEAKER_02: And I realized, okay, the rest of the world isn't telling me not to bring this into the house, you know.
- 14:42SPEAKER_02: And oh, by the way, it's my house now, right?
- 14:46SPEAKER_02: So that was when I had my biggest spiritual opening because I could not imagine life without my husband.
- 14:59SPEAKER_02: I went to bed every night for a year and a half begging him to come and get me.
- 15:09SPEAKER_02: And it was only very gradually that I came out of that and realized, well, I I'm not dead.
- 15:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:21SPEAKER_02: So I guess I better get up.
- 15:23SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 15:26SPEAKER_02: But then the biggest opening happened many years later when I had a series of really bad medical events, and I was in the hospital staring at the ceiling, thinking, what's the spiritual reason that my body is falling apart?
- 15:50SPEAKER_02: And the answer that came was you asked for it.
- 15:56SPEAKER_02: Because I went to bed every night asking to die for a year and a half.
- 16:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:02SPEAKER_02: Here was my opportunity.
- 16:03SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:05SPEAKER_02: And at that point I realized I wasn't really asking for death, I was asking for peace.
- 16:15SPEAKER_02: And death was the only thing, the only route I saw at that moment.
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:22SPEAKER_02: So, in terms of my spirituality, every trauma, and oh my god, there's been so many, every trauma opened it up another step.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 16:34SPEAKER_02: And I find this is true with clients too.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: You know that their spirituality is an asset.
- 16:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:44SPEAKER_02: It's a support system.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: It's information.
- 16:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 16:54SPEAKER_02: And I've just never looked back.
- 16:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, good.
- 16:58SPEAKER_01: And so that was Yeah, you've about 16 years.
- 17:03SPEAKER_02: 18 to be exact.
- 17:05SPEAKER_01: 18, since he'd passed, right?
- 17:09SPEAKER_02: But it did it take you a little it took you a little bit to Yeah, it took my body a while to manufacture a heart attack.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:17SPEAKER_01: Oh gosh.
- 17:18SPEAKER_02: You know, and and and as I looked back on it, I thought, what was I thinking?
- 17:26SPEAKER_02: Well, I wasn't thinking.
- 17:29SPEAKER_01: You were in pain and I was grieving.
- 17:31SPEAKER_01: Grieving, grieving, yeah.
- 17:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:37SPEAKER_02: So and actually, it was all the medical issues that created the opening for spirit to show me hypnosis.
- 17:48SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 17:49SPEAKER_02: Because I really feel like I was led to it.
- 17:52SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 17:52SPEAKER_02: So during my recuperation, which took 18 months, all I could do was sleep and read.
- 17:59SPEAKER_02: That's all I could do.
- 18:00SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 18:01SPEAKER_02: I could barely even make food and feed the dog.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: It just sleep and read was what I and one day I was surfing the internet and I stumbled on an article in psychology today on hypnosis.
- 18:20SPEAKER_02: I don't know if you've had this experience, but I started reading this article and everything in my body started to vibrate.
- 18:27SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 18:28SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:28SPEAKER_02: It was like, oh my god.
- 18:30SPEAKER_01: It resonated.
- 18:31SPEAKER_02: Oh my God, I have to know more about this.
- 18:34SPEAKER_02: So I followed links, I purchased books.
- 18:38SPEAKER_02: Eventually I realized that the only state licensed school that teaches hypnotherapy was 45 minutes from my house.
- 18:47SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 18:47SPEAKER_02: Which was practically nothing.
- 18:49SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 18:51SPEAKER_02: And I never looked back.
- 18:54SPEAKER_02: I went, I interviewed them, I decided they were legit.
- 18:58SPEAKER_02: And I thought, yes, I want to do this.
- 19:01SPEAKER_02: You know, my whole being just said yes.
- 19:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:05SPEAKER_02: Because I had tried every kind of therapy and energetic treatment there was.
- 19:12SPEAKER_02: If if it's out there, I've tried it.
- 19:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:15SPEAKER_02: And I still suffered from depression.
- 19:23SPEAKER_02: And with hypnosis, I found out why.
- 19:27SPEAKER_02: Because it was buried in my subconscious mind.
- 19:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:32SPEAKER_02: And now I had the tool to reach it.
- 19:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, how cool.
- 19:36SPEAKER_02: Did you have somebody hypnotize you, or how did you well in the class we were hypnotized constantly by each other?
- 19:45SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah, okay.
- 19:47SPEAKER_02: And by the instructor.
- 19:49SPEAKER_02: And then I, of course, hired her to do some extra ones because I just couldn't get enough of it.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 19:57SPEAKER_02: And then I have over time reached out to other hypnotherapists because although I teach self-hypnosis, it's really easier when you're guided.
- 20:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:13SPEAKER_02: Because in self-hypnosis, you have to have enough of your conscious mind active to keep guiding you.
- 20:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:21SPEAKER_02: Whereas when somebody else is guiding you, you can just let go into it.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 20:28SPEAKER_01: What does a session with you look like?
- 20:33SPEAKER_02: A session with me is 90 minutes.
- 20:36SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:36SPEAKER_02: So we do 45 minutes of coaching.
- 20:41SPEAKER_02: Um I'm gathering information.
- 20:46SPEAKER_02: And the the client is expressing as best they can what is happening right now.
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:55SPEAKER_02: Then in the last half of the session, we do the hypnosis.
- 20:59SPEAKER_02: So it's about 45 minutes.
- 21:01SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 21:02SPEAKER_02: I record all of the hypnosis.
- 21:05SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:05SPEAKER_02: Ask them to listen to it between sessions.
- 21:09SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:11SPEAKER_02: And then, of course, I do email support in between because my sessions are every other week.
- 21:17SPEAKER_02: But so I really want to get to the core wound.
- 21:27SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 21:29SPEAKER_02: You know, if somebody comes in with a symptom, there is just no point in trying to get rid of a symptom because another symptom will come up.
- 21:38SPEAKER_01: Symptom will pop up, yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_02: So, you know, if somebody comes in and they're raging angry at something, I have to say something like, Well, when is the first time you felt this kind of anger?
- 21:54SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 21:55SPEAKER_02: When do you remember feeling this before?
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: This is in the interview part.
- 22:01SPEAKER_02: This is in the first coaching part.
- 22:03SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:05SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 22:06SPEAKER_02: So we do a lot of excavating in that section.
- 22:09SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 22:10SPEAKER_02: And then whatever we have learned, that's what we focus on in the hypnosis.
- 22:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Do people generally remember what goes on in the subconscious um session part?
- 22:24SPEAKER_01: Or do they are they surprised when they're listening to the recording?
- 22:29SPEAKER_02: So going into hypnosis simply means you change your brainwave state.
- 22:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 22:35SPEAKER_02: And we change our brainwave state all day long.
- 22:38SPEAKER_02: We just aren't aware of it.
- 22:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 22:40SPEAKER_02: Right now, you and I are in our conscious minds.
- 22:43SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 22:44SPEAKER_02: And that is a beta brainwave that is short and fast.
- 22:48SPEAKER_02: That's conscious thinking.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 22:50SPEAKER_02: Short, fast wave.
- 22:53SPEAKER_02: As you relax, your brain waves get longer and slower, and you move closer and closer to your subconscious mind.
- 23:05SPEAKER_02: So from a beta wave, you'll go to an alpha wave, which is the bridge between subconscious and conscious.
- 23:14SPEAKER_02: And then you can also go into a theta wave, which is full-on subconscious mind.
- 23:21SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:23SPEAKER_02: An alpha wave, we're in an alpha wave.
- 23:27SPEAKER_02: Have you ever gotten so involved in something that you've forgotten about time?
- 23:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:32SPEAKER_02: That's an alpha wave.
- 23:34SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:35SPEAKER_02: Um, or every time I take a long hot shower and my body goes, oh, that's an alpha wave.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: And what you'll find in an alpha wave is you'll start to get really good ideas, or you'll you'll suddenly think, Oh, that's the answer to that problem.
- 23:55SPEAKER_02: Because your subconscious mind suddenly has access to you.
- 24:00SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: I think that's like what I do breath work is alpha mostly.
- 24:06SPEAKER_02: And that's opening into an alpha wave that is you're right in the bridge.
- 24:14SPEAKER_02: So your subconscious mind can talk to you, and things will start to pop up, images will start to pop up, ideas will start to pop up.
- 24:25SPEAKER_02: In a theta wave, that's the wave we are all in just before we go to sleep.
- 24:32SPEAKER_01: Yes, okay.
- 24:33SPEAKER_02: Just as we wake up.
- 24:35SPEAKER_02: So it's that it's that magical.
- 24:38SPEAKER_02: I'm not really asleep, I'm not really awake, please don't bother me.
- 24:42SPEAKER_02: It's really nice here, place.
- 24:44SPEAKER_01: Like you almost think you're still in like your dream is like if you're if you happen to be dreaming, you're still you still think that's happening.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: I have that a lot.
- 24:56SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 24:57SPEAKER_02: Well, and and interestingly enough, sleep is delta.
- 25:03SPEAKER_02: Okay, so there's beta, alpha, theta, delta.
- 25:08SPEAKER_02: So in delta, your conscious mind is completely out of the way.
- 25:14SPEAKER_02: But when you dream, you come back to theta, theta, okay.
- 25:19SPEAKER_02: And then when the dream is done, you go down to delta.
- 25:22SPEAKER_02: So theta is the powerhouse.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:25SPEAKER_01: Theta is deep.
- 25:26SPEAKER_01: And delta is deep sleep.
- 25:28SPEAKER_02: Delta is deep sleep.
- 25:30SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 25:31SPEAKER_02: You can change anything in theta.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Anything.
- 25:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 25:35SPEAKER_01: How cool.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: Anything.
- 25:38SPEAKER_02: Because that is where all the programming lives.
- 25:41SPEAKER_02: That's where your memories are.
- 25:42SPEAKER_02: That's where your pain is.
- 25:44SPEAKER_02: That's where your traumas are.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: That's where your beliefs are.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: In hypnosis, to go back and answer your question from a long time ago, in hypnosis, people are generally floating theta, alpha, theta, alpha.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Theta alpha.
- 26:00SPEAKER_02: So when they're in alpha, they remember more.
- 26:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: When they're in theta, they remember less.
- 26:08SPEAKER_02: But I give them a recording.
- 26:10SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:11SPEAKER_02: So, you know, I've had recordings I listen to completely with my conscious mind because I just wanted to know what happened.
- 26:19SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Or you can listen to the recording, go right back into hypnosis, and you might even have a new experience.
- 26:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:30SPEAKER_01: As a practitioner, how how can you tell once they're once they're in?
- 26:36SPEAKER_01: Because I'm assuming it takes a little bit of time to get from alpha wait from beta to alpha.
- 26:45SPEAKER_01: It does.
- 26:47SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: It does.
- 26:48SPEAKER_02: And some people never get past that.
- 26:50SPEAKER_02: And that's fine.
- 26:51SPEAKER_02: I can work in alpha.
- 26:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 26:53SPEAKER_02: As long as we have access to the subconscious mind, we can work.
- 26:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:00SPEAKER_02: Um, how can I tell when people are going into hypnosis?
- 27:05SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I'm just curious.
- 27:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 27:10SPEAKER_02: It's hard to describe, but something about their whole body changes.
- 27:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:15SPEAKER_02: Their facial expression definitely changes.
- 27:18SPEAKER_02: Their their face is very relaxed.
- 27:21SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 27:23SPEAKER_02: Um there's nothing intense looking at all.
- 27:32SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 27:34SPEAKER_02: But I also know when people are asleep.
- 27:37SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's what I was wondering.
- 27:38SPEAKER_02: Do people lay down or do they sit, or do is it preference or well, if they come to my office, they sit in my big recliner.
- 27:46SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 27:47SPEAKER_02: But if I'm working online, which is most of my work, I ask people to just be um gently reclined so that their head and neck are supported.
- 27:58unknown: Okay.
- 27:59SPEAKER_02: I don't want anyone to fall out of a chair.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 28:02SPEAKER_01: That's with breath work too.
- 28:04SPEAKER_01: I always make sure.
- 28:05SPEAKER_01: Be in a safe space with sides on your chair or yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 28:09SPEAKER_02: So propped up on a bed, propped up on a couch, in a recliner, anything like that.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 28:18SPEAKER_01: Is there a story you'd like to share about a um, you know, some transformations that clients have had or well, I could bore you with many stories.
- 28:36SPEAKER_01: Well, I I doubt they're boring.
- 28:39SPEAKER_02: Well, let's talk about um the lady who I had been working with for quite a while.
- 28:49SPEAKER_02: She was a professional woman.
- 28:52SPEAKER_02: She had two kind of, I think 12, 13, 14-year-olds somewhere in there.
- 29:01SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:03SPEAKER_02: And she came to me because she was being taken advantage of at work.
- 29:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 29:16SPEAKER_02: So we worked on that.
- 29:17SPEAKER_02: We worked on boundary setting.
- 29:19SPEAKER_02: We worked on her holding her confidence and self-respect and self-trust.
- 29:28SPEAKER_01: Uh-huh.
- 29:29SPEAKER_02: And then one day she walked into my office.
- 29:33SPEAKER_02: She sat in a chair and she looked right at me and said, I'm bad.
- 29:38SPEAKER_02: And I looked at her and I was really surprised.
- 29:42SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:43SPEAKER_02: Because we'd done all this work and that was such a big judgment.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 29:50SPEAKER_02: And I said, Well, why are you bad?
- 29:53SPEAKER_02: She said, I had an abortion.
- 29:56SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 29:58SPEAKER_02: And I said, Well, can you tell me the circumstances?
- 30:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 30:04SPEAKER_02: And it she had um immigrated from a Middle Eastern country when she was in her very young twenties, maybe just 20 even, I don't know.
- 30:19SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:20SPEAKER_02: And she was married and she got pregnant right before they left.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 30:26SPEAKER_02: And her husband, who was very authoritarian, refused to take her with him if she was pregnant.
- 30:34SPEAKER_02: I don't know why, but that was he was absolutely not.
- 30:38SPEAKER_02: Nope, we're not doing that.
- 30:41SPEAKER_02: If you're if you're pregnant, you can't come.
- 30:44SPEAKER_01: Oh my god.
- 30:45SPEAKER_02: And so she looked for support from her family, which was very patriarchal culture.
- 30:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 30:52SPEAKER_02: And they did not back her up.
- 30:54SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 30:55SPEAKER_02: So she had the abortion.
- 30:58SPEAKER_02: And she'd regretted it for 20 years.
- 31:02SPEAKER_01: Wow.
- 31:03SPEAKER_02: And so this happens to me sometimes.
- 31:06SPEAKER_02: All of a sudden, the idea just popped into my mind, we need to talk to the baby.
- 31:13SPEAKER_02: And so I said to her, Would you like to talk to the baby?
- 31:17SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:18SPEAKER_02: And she said, Yes.
- 31:21SPEAKER_02: So we we did a very deep hypnosis.
- 31:24SPEAKER_02: I made sure that we did a long relaxation.
- 31:27SPEAKER_02: She was very deep.
- 31:29SPEAKER_02: And I said, just invite the baby to come and be with you.
- 31:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 31:35SPEAKER_02: And it you might you might feel it, you might see it, you might just know it's there.
- 31:43SPEAKER_02: Just just invite the child to come and be with you.
- 31:48SPEAKER_02: And she did.
- 31:50SPEAKER_02: And she saw her.
- 31:52SPEAKER_02: And it was her.
- 31:54SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 31:56SPEAKER_02: And so she I I gave her a lot of time.
- 32:00SPEAKER_02: I said, you take the time, you need to explain to the child what happened.
- 32:07SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:07SPEAKER_02: Why you aborted her.
- 32:10SPEAKER_02: Which she did.
- 32:12SPEAKER_02: And then I said, Would you be willing to ask her for forgiveness?
- 32:23SPEAKER_02: And she was like, Yes.
- 32:27SPEAKER_02: And so she asked for forgiveness, and the baby just showered her with love and forgiveness and understanding and compassion.
- 32:41SPEAKER_02: And there was no blame or judgment on that soul's part.
- 32:47SPEAKER_02: Oh.
- 32:48SPEAKER_02: And it was so freeing to her when she can't imagine.
- 32:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_02: When she came in for her next appointment, she was a changed woman.
- 33:02SPEAKER_01: Oh, I bet.
- 33:04SPEAKER_02: You know, she had shared the name she had picked for her.
- 33:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:09SPEAKER_01: And what a beautiful story.
- 33:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so she, you know, those kinds of things are resolvable if we're willing if we're willing to ask.
- 33:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's the thing with the spiritual work.
- 33:31SPEAKER_01: The person has to be open and wanting.
- 33:39SPEAKER_01: You know, it's it's you have to be a willing participant, let's say.
- 33:44SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 33:45SPEAKER_02: You have to want the change.
- 33:46SPEAKER_02: First of all, you have to want the change.
- 33:49SPEAKER_02: And second of all, you you have to be willing to go into territory that might feel a little weird to you.
- 33:54SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 33:56SPEAKER_02: But we had done spiritual work before, and I knew this wouldn't be a problem for her.
- 34:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:01SPEAKER_02: Well, and it wasn't the first time I sprang it on her or anything.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:06SPEAKER_01: Well, and obviously she had some deep pain there, you know.
- 34:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:12SPEAKER_01: And I've known people who have similar.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:16SPEAKER_02: It was a loss.
- 34:17SPEAKER_02: It was a oh yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_02: Huge loss to her.
- 34:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:21SPEAKER_02: And she had two sons, so she didn't have another daughter.
- 34:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:29SPEAKER_01: That's beautiful.
- 34:32SPEAKER_01: Um, can you tell us a little bit about your book?
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Oh, I can't piece of mine blueprint.
- 34:41SPEAKER_01: It's a beautiful cover.
- 34:43SPEAKER_02: Thank you.
- 34:44SPEAKER_01: Oh, and I just noticed that's your Facebook cover.
- 34:47SPEAKER_01: I was yeah, I um I was like, that's a beautiful painting or watercolor.
- 34:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:54SPEAKER_01: Actually, you're right.
- 34:56SPEAKER_02: Because I asked my niece to do the painting for it.
- 35:01SPEAKER_01: She did.
- 35:02SPEAKER_01: Oh.
- 35:02SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 35:03SPEAKER_02: I described what I wanted and she got it right out of the gate.
- 35:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's beautiful.
- 35:10SPEAKER_02: And I love the way she did it because there's it looks like there's little gems on the beach.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: Oh, yeah.
- 35:17SPEAKER_01: It's just really pretty.
- 35:19SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_02: Well, the Peace of Mind Blueprint is sort of my introduction to what is hypnotherapy all about.
- 35:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:29SPEAKER_02: So um the first section of the book is devoted to myth busting and all the famous people who have used hip hypnosis and every question you might have about hypnosis.
- 35:42SPEAKER_02: And the second part of the book is introducing all the work in the subconscious mind through stories about either my clients or myself.
- 35:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 35:53SPEAKER_02: And so that by the end of the book, you have a really sound idea about what happens in hypnosis.
- 36:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:03SPEAKER_02: Or actually, to be more of correct hypnotherapy.
- 36:08SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:09SPEAKER_01: Did you feel like oh, sorry, go ahead.
- 36:14SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 36:15SPEAKER_02: And that's completely justified, but most of my work is about let's just find the reason you're so triggered.
- 36:27SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 36:28SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 36:29SPEAKER_01: Did you write it?
- 36:30SPEAKER_01: Because when you were, did you feel like you wished there was a book like that?
- 36:35SPEAKER_01: When you were?
- 36:38SPEAKER_02: Or did you just wish that I had an easy way to tell people this is what it's like.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: So you wrote it down.
- 36:48SPEAKER_01: And then you tell it all over again.
- 36:51SPEAKER_02: And and it was a great experience.
- 36:54SPEAKER_02: I had a coach.
- 36:55SPEAKER_02: I'm a big believer in coaches.
- 36:57SPEAKER_01: Oh, yes.
- 36:58SPEAKER_02: Big believer in coaches.
- 37:00SPEAKER_02: So I had a book coach.
- 37:02SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:04SPEAKER_02: And that was invaluable because he gave me constant feedback.
- 37:09SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:09SPEAKER_02: And and he he also said 25,000 words.
- 37:14SPEAKER_02: You are cut off at 25,000 words.
- 37:17SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:17SPEAKER_02: Which means it's a very accessible book.
- 37:20SPEAKER_02: It's like 170 pages.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:23SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_02: You know, you could read this book in a day if you really wanted to.
- 37:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:28SPEAKER_02: And and that was also a goal of mine.
- 37:32SPEAKER_02: I didn't want it to be a big heavy read.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:35SPEAKER_01: Just more accessible for people who are curious about it.
- 37:39SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:40SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 37:41SPEAKER_01: So when is that available?
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: Is it out now?
- 37:43SPEAKER_02: Or oh, it's available on Amazon.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 37:46SPEAKER_01: On Amazon.
- 37:48SPEAKER_02: It's available on Amazon.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: It's probably available lots of other places too, but I know for a fact it's on Amazon.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 37:53SPEAKER_01: Good old Amazon.
- 37:54SPEAKER_02: And it's also on my website.
- 37:56SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Well, great.
- 37:59SPEAKER_01: Is there anything else you want to share with the people?
- 38:07SPEAKER_02: You know, I have a very spiritual outlook on life.
- 38:13SPEAKER_02: And I believe we are all here to shine our light.
- 38:18SPEAKER_02: I I'd agree, yeah.
- 38:20SPEAKER_02: And you know, when we get started in life, we run into all these obstacles, and sometimes we feel like our light is so dim that it's disappeared.
- 38:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_02: But it never disappears.
- 38:37SPEAKER_02: I know this for a fact from my own experience.
- 38:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:41SPEAKER_01: I mean, yeah, your testimony alone of asking for a year and a half to die.
- 38:47SPEAKER_01: I mean, that's that's a deep dark place.
- 38:51SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's a deep dark place, but you know, my light, my light was still there.
- 38:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:57SPEAKER_02: And um, and actually, I believe it was because my light was still there that I didn't die.
- 39:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 39:04SPEAKER_02: Um so we s we come in, we're all light, we're we're all purity, we're all goodness.
- 39:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, we go through light life and we all get damaged.
- 39:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:21SPEAKER_02: I mean, that's just the course of life.
- 39:23SPEAKER_02: We all get damaged.
- 39:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_02: But the damage are is just lessons to learn.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 39:32SPEAKER_01: And I feel like an opportunity to even brighten your light.
- 39:40SPEAKER_02: Yes.
- 39:41SPEAKER_01: Or become, you know, like I often talk about that we're vessels, and as we go through challenges, which I like to call them, um, it's an opportunity for us to become even brighter.
- 39:54SPEAKER_01: And I think you're helping with that work.
- 39:56SPEAKER_01: And that's I thank you.
- 39:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 39:58SPEAKER_02: That is my heart's work.
- 40:00SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:01SPEAKER_02: That is my heart's work.
- 40:02SPEAKER_02: And I don't know if you've experienced this, but when somebody comes in and they are just blossoming after all the work we've done, yeah.
- 40:12SPEAKER_02: I I mean my heart almost explodes from happiness.
- 40:15SPEAKER_02: It's just there is nothing like it.
- 40:20SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 40:21SPEAKER_01: I agree.
- 40:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:23SPEAKER_02: So everybody be brave.
- 40:28SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 40:28SPEAKER_02: Really brave.
- 40:30SPEAKER_02: It's so worth it.
- 40:32SPEAKER_01: And there's so many tools out there to help with this.
- 40:36SPEAKER_01: I feel like it's just getting bigger and bigger, and I think that is wonderful.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: So hey, thank you for your work that you do and for coming on.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: My pleasure.
- 40:47SPEAKER_01: For sharing.
- 40:48SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 40:49SPEAKER_02: Pleasure.
- 40:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you, Sharis, and we'll see you next time.
