SPEAKER_02: One of my favorite jokes when it came to Red Letter Media's reviews of the Star Wars movies was in episode three when they were like uh what trying to imagine George Lucas, you know, expressing like how he wanted um to what he wanted to call the order to kill all the Jedi's.
• 0:18
SPEAKER_02: He's just like sticks, sticks, sticks, and they're like, no, that sounds too evil.
• 0:23
  SPEAKER_02: How about 66?
• 0:26
SPEAKER_02: And guys, this is not episode 66.
• 0:29
SPEAKER_02: This is episode 166, and I have I had no other better uh segue to lead us into that, but we are covering something completely different from Star Wars.
• 0:39
SPEAKER_02: I don't even think they referenced the movie in this movie.
• 0:42
SPEAKER_02: Um, but we are covering Godzilla Kong the New Empire, which came out in 2024 and features a couple monsters, big guys.
• 0:51
SPEAKER_02: Um, we got your titular Godzilla, you got your titular Kong, uh, but you got some new guys uh in this one, um, and some returning favorites.
• 1:00
SPEAKER_02: So we're gonna be talking all about that and more in short order.
• 1:04
SPEAKER_02: But before we get into any of that, my name's Dakota, I am one-fourth of your hosts, and we are joined as always with Anthony.
• 1:11
SPEAKER_04: And honestly, I think it's pretty insane that we're at 166 episodes.
• 1:17
SPEAKER_04: That like really is pretty crazy, but we can't do it alone.
• 1:23
  SPEAKER_04: We also have Rich.
• 1:28
SPEAKER_03: Really excited to talk about Kong's new attire in this movie.
• 1:34
SPEAKER_03: I am jazzed up, ladies and gentlemen.
• 1:37
SPEAKER_03: This has been the best franchise.
• 1:40
SPEAKER_03: And with uh we can't do this alone, though.
• 1:43
SPEAKER_03: We need one more person with a bad opinion on who is the King of the Monsters, and that person is.
• 1:49
SPEAKER_01: Hey guys, I'm uh Jen.
• 1:51
SPEAKER_01: And when you say Kong attire, I pictured Kong in like a vest.
• 1:57
  SPEAKER_01: I was like attire.
• 1:58
SPEAKER_01: Like I wasn't sure where that was going.
• 2:01
SPEAKER_02: Nothing the Kong in a cursed tiara.
• 2:04
SPEAKER_01: I just woke up from a nap, guys, so um feeling refreshed, but also hostile.
• 2:11
SPEAKER_01: Kind of like Godzilla when he wakes up from a nap.
• 2:14
SPEAKER_02: When he wakes up from a nap, ready to consume some radiation.
• 2:18
SPEAKER_02: I I really appreciate that you brought up attire, um, because what this movie reminds me of was the 90s cartoon action figure lines that were tangentially related to the movies that were being released at the time, but not at all.
• 2:34
  SPEAKER_01: Um big T-words.
• 2:37
  SPEAKER_01: Tangentially titular.
• 2:39
  SPEAKER_01: Well, let's try it.
• 2:40
SPEAKER_02: Let's let's triangulate the triangulate this, you know?
• 2:43
SPEAKER_02: Um when the Batman movies were coming out in the 90s, uh, like the the Burton Batman um quadrilogy, whatever you want to call it, whenever there was a new one out, they would have Batman in like 18 different costumes for like different uh toys that you know, costumes he would never wear in any of the movies, and would just be completely pointless to the character of Batman to begin with.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_02: Like they'd have him in like a a like a uh a parka, and they would have him in like a Mr.
• 3:18
SPEAKER_02: Freeze outfit, and then they would have him um they had so many they had like Green Ray Batman, and it was just there were so many toys that would come out around this character that had nothing to do with the movie.
• 3:32
SPEAKER_02: But you know what's amazing about this movie is that the crazy toys that they would create actually made it into the movie, you know.
• 3:39
SPEAKER_02: We have Kong with a giant uh Nintendo Power Fist.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_02: Um we we have uh Godzilla in like sparkly new colors.
• 3:52
SPEAKER_02: He he's all uh uh he's all pinked up, and I I find that really just I don't know what the word is.
• 4:04
  SPEAKER_02: It's charming.
• 4:05
  SPEAKER_02: It's it's just like I love that.
• 4:08
SPEAKER_02: I love that they just went full camp and didn't look back.
• 4:13
SPEAKER_03: First of all, I just need to say one thing.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_03: Listen, I needed Arctic camouflage Batman.
• 4:22
SPEAKER_03: Okay, I needed that, right?
• 4:24
SPEAKER_03: I I I actually was a sucker for all of those weird uh those weird ones.
• 4:33
SPEAKER_03: I I absolutely love them, but uh the only thing that I love more than them is this movie.
• 4:40
  SPEAKER_03: My goodness.
• 4:41
  SPEAKER_03: My goodness.
• 4:44
SPEAKER_03: I'm just gonna I'm just gonna stop, but like I just want everyone to know if if there was any if you were like, I wonder if Rich is gonna like this one.
• 4:53
  SPEAKER_03: Guess what, guys?
• 4:54
  SPEAKER_03: I love it.
• 4:55
  SPEAKER_03: It's the it's the it's it's better than all the others.
• 4:59
  SPEAKER_03: Like, it's so it's so good.
• 5:01
SPEAKER_03: It's so I can't wait to talk about it.
• 5:04
SPEAKER_02: Before we get into any of that, what the heck have we been up to, guys?
• 5:09
SPEAKER_02: I guess we'll start because we don't have a whole lot going on.
• 5:13
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, wait, we do.
• 5:15
SPEAKER_02: Um we watched a little bit of Only Murders in the Building season three.
• 5:20
SPEAKER_02: That's that's actually been probably my favorite season so far of the series.
• 5:24
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's a good time.
• 5:25
  SPEAKER_02: So it's a good time.
• 5:26
SPEAKER_02: But um, I also finished book six of Dungeon Crawler Carl.
• 5:32
SPEAKER_02: Um for the time being, because I am essentially moderating uh everyone else's consumption of this series because we plan to cover it over the course of uh a couple podcasts at least.
• 5:45
SPEAKER_02: Um everyone else is reading it, uh, and they are all still in part one of book one, and that's where they're gonna stay rich um until we record part two.
• 5:56
  SPEAKER_01: Wait, what?
• 5:57
SPEAKER_01: Wait, what chapter is the end of part one?
• 6:00
  SPEAKER_01: Book one?
• 6:01
  SPEAKER_02: 28.
• 6:02
SPEAKER_01: Dude, so what am I supposed to do?
• 6:04
SPEAKER_02: When when part two, when it happened when part two happens, you stop.
• 6:12
  SPEAKER_01: Nah.
• 6:13
SPEAKER_01: All right, no, I'm gonna keep reading.
• 6:16
  SPEAKER_01: I'm gonna keep reading.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_01: I'm not gonna listen to that.
• 6:18
SPEAKER_02: Alright, we will we will discuss this more.
• 6:20
SPEAKER_01: Um just tell me where to stop talking about.
• 6:24
  SPEAKER_02: Okay, no.
• 6:26
  SPEAKER_02: Um, alright.
• 6:29
  SPEAKER_01: I was gonna, because I'm on chapter 26.
• 6:32
  SPEAKER_02: I know, you're going fast.
• 6:33
  SPEAKER_02: Um, all right.
• 6:34
SPEAKER_02: I don't want this podcast to get derailed by Tunji Carla Carl.
• 6:37
SPEAKER_02: So uh I will say that I got my YouTube channel back, which has uh been very big for me.
• 6:44
SPEAKER_02: Um it was a very traumatic couple weeks where it was a lot of back and forth with YouTube and Google whether or not I owned, and I was the actual um owner of the Gmail and the YouTube account.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_02: And the the YouTube side of things, people they they they were pretty um honest about like, yeah, we do believe you own the account, we just can't prove it on the Google side.
• 7:07
SPEAKER_02: Like the Gmail side, they they couldn't prove.
• 7:09
SPEAKER_02: And I was I I ended up just sending them a strongly worded email.
• 7:14
  SPEAKER_02: Gmail, that is.
• 7:16
  SPEAKER_02: Um, and they finally.
• 7:18
SPEAKER_01: Who gave you that idea to send a strongly worded email?
• 7:22
  SPEAKER_02: My dog.
• 7:23
SPEAKER_03: Luna is so smart, she's almost she's like Princess Donut, honestly.
• 7:29
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, a little bit.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_02: Um anyway, so I'm I'm pleased to have that back, and I'm pleased to uh begin making content again.
• 7:40
SPEAKER_02: I can continue with uh long live the timeline series, and yeah, um I'm I'm very excited about all that.
• 7:47
SPEAKER_02: But what it what have you guys been up to?
• 7:49
SPEAKER_04: So so yeah, like like Dakota said, we are gonna be covering um dungeon dungeon crawler Carl next week.
• 7:58
SPEAKER_04: Um it'll be part one of the book, and I'm actually I just finished up part one today.
• 8:05
SPEAKER_04: So I'm all I'm all good to go for that one.
• 8:10
SPEAKER_02: And if you guys, if you guys are all caught up and you want to continue reading, I know I said that part one is a good break where we can discuss the first floor of the dungeon, but if you guys are just like itching to continue, we can cover the whole book.
• 8:25
  SPEAKER_02: It's it's it's a you can breeze through it.
• 8:27
SPEAKER_02: So it's up to you guys.
• 8:29
SPEAKER_02: We'll we'll we'll talk about it after the pod.
• 8:31
SPEAKER_02: But um, yeah, as of right now, we're covering part one of book one.
• 8:35
  SPEAKER_04: Sounds good.
• 8:37
SPEAKER_04: Um I did see so I I did see a movie this week and I saw um Steven Spielberg's new movie, Disclosure Day.
• 8:48
  SPEAKER_02: Oh, snap.
• 8:49
  SPEAKER_02: Steven who?
• 8:50
  SPEAKER_04: Steven Spielberg.
• 8:51
SPEAKER_03: Are you allowed to talk about it?
• 8:53
SPEAKER_03: Never like you're gonna give us the full story.
• 8:57
SPEAKER_01: Um what information can you disclose?
• 9:00
  SPEAKER_04: I can't, you know.
• 9:01
SPEAKER_04: It's uh it's it's up to uh Emily Blunt to to let you know bluntly.
• 9:09
SPEAKER_04: Um I'm I I thought it was pretty good, and and during like during the the movie, the music sounded very familiar.
• 9:20
SPEAKER_04: I'm like, hmm, I feel I said I know this composer, and I looked it up, and sure enough, it was John Williams composed for this movie.
• 9:29
  SPEAKER_04: I was like, wow.
• 9:30
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_04: It like you you can tell when it's John Williams, like he has like a distinct sound when it comes to um the for to his scores.
• 9:41
SPEAKER_04: But I mean it was it was pretty good.
• 9:42
  SPEAKER_04: I liked it.
• 9:43
SPEAKER_04: It it's it felt very much so like a Steven Spielberg movie, so you know, we're back.
• 9:51
  SPEAKER_02: We're back.
• 9:52
SPEAKER_02: Um with uh Spielberg and Williams, it's the longest running and most iconic um creator duo in all of Hollywood.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_02: Uh they've they've worked on 30 films together now, uh now that disclosure days here, and they've been working together for over 50 years total.
• 10:10
SPEAKER_02: And yeah, um I I feel like so much of Spielberg's like filmography would just not even be the same thing without Williams music.
• 10:21
SPEAKER_02: Like if you if you can't take the music out of E.T., you can't take the music out of Jaws, Raiders, you can't take it out of um uh why am I blanking on?
• 10:33
SPEAKER_02: Uh Jurassic Park, you can't take it out of Chandler's List.
• 10:35
SPEAKER_02: You know, like it it's so many of these movies that um Williams and Spielberg work together on are so like you can't have one without the other, and I think that that's why like they're such their their partnership is so awesome.
• 10:51
SPEAKER_02: Um and it's it's I I I heard a little bit of of the soundtrack um just from like just being online and seeing like them release a track or two.
• 11:01
SPEAKER_02: Um and I I really like that, so that's pretty cool.
• 11:05
SPEAKER_01: Did Williams do Lamb before time?
• 11:07
  SPEAKER_02: Ooh, uh I don't think so.
• 11:11
SPEAKER_02: No, I don't think so, but I can check.
• 11:14
  SPEAKER_02: I don't think he did.
• 11:15
  SPEAKER_01: Or you check.
• 11:16
SPEAKER_01: What have you been up to?
• 11:17
SPEAKER_03: Oh well it's uh I've got a fever lately.
• 11:20
SPEAKER_03: It's it was really bad, actually.
• 11:23
SPEAKER_03: Uh but luckily uh there is there is one cure.
• 11:27
SPEAKER_03: And uh it's just watching watching the World Cup baby, because I got World Cup fever! Uh just uh glorious time to be alive.
• 11:35
SPEAKER_03: Uh basically the I will say the only thing that's not as enjoyable about this World Cup as others is that you know, when there's like in halfway across the world, you'd have games at like 10 o'clock and 12 o'clock and things like that.
• 11:52
SPEAKER_03: But um we still have those.
• 11:55
SPEAKER_04: They still got some late games.
• 11:56
SPEAKER_03: They got they got oh, late ones, but I like the uh so there's something special about being a teacher at a school where the kids appreciate soccer and the games are on during the morning because you just kind of stop teaching.
• 12:08
SPEAKER_03: You're like, let's go, guys, let's watch this random country here.
• 12:12
  SPEAKER_03: Who cares?
• 12:13
  SPEAKER_03: Nobody in this classroom.
• 12:14
SPEAKER_01: The first year at the school, I was so confused because during class I kept like catching kids watching soccer on their laptops, and I didn't grow up in a like in a World Cup community, like I wasn't watching the World Cup growing up, and it it was just it was huge in the school, like every kid.
• 12:32
SPEAKER_01: So I ended up having to plan a unit.
• 12:34
SPEAKER_01: I didn't have to, but it's the only way I could create some kind of engagement for my classes because like World Cup fever was dominating the children, and so um I created like a whole unit on the World Cup and like the ethics of like the World Cup in Qatar and a bunch of different articles on like the way that the stadium was built and the way that they treated like women and gay people, and it was really interesting.
• 12:58
SPEAKER_02: The ethics of kicking people while they're down.
• 13:01
  SPEAKER_01: What?
• 13:03
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
• 13:05
SPEAKER_01: Dakota knows nothing about soccer.
• 13:08
SPEAKER_01: I just imagine Like do you think they kick each other?
• 13:12
SPEAKER_02: All I can picture right now is a bunch of like a compilation of just Europeans on their backs holding up their knees in in mock pain, um, as as they might have gotten grazed by uh another person who was beside them.
• 13:27
SPEAKER_03: So um big shots fire.
• 13:29
SPEAKER_02: I would like to kick them.
• 13:31
SPEAKER_02: I would like to kick those individuals.
• 13:32
SPEAKER_04: But no, I I will say the flopping is a bit annoying, but they're they're giving yellow they're giving cards out for that.
• 13:38
SPEAKER_03: So, you know, I I that is a big complaint, but if you're watching the tournament, you'll see that guys who are flopping are getting penalized for that.
• 13:46
SPEAKER_03: Uh but uh in more exciting news, I did lock up my tickets for Comic-Con near near near Comic-Con.
• 13:52
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, nice.
• 13:52
SPEAKER_03: Uh, we're going on Thursday this year.
• 13:55
SPEAKER_03: We've done this one other time.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_03: We normally like to go on Friday because Well, I I used to go to like more days, but I I usually get I get approved for the educator pass, and the educator pass is zero dollars on Thursday.
• 14:12
SPEAKER_03: Uh this year the prices have skyrocketed, and an individual ticket for Friday is ninety five dollars, I believe.
• 14:23
  SPEAKER_03: Jeez.
• 14:24
SPEAKER_03: And so that so and Charlie's under twelve, and he because they don't have kid passes, uh they usually only have it on Sundays, it would have been basically ninety-five for Lauren, ninety-five for Charlie, and then it was gonna be one hundred and eighty for me to get the four-day pass, because I don't have the option for a Friday.
• 14:44
SPEAKER_03: I just have a Thursday for zero or a four-day for one eighty.
• 14:48
SPEAKER_03: So basically it came down to being like three hundred dollars versus a hundred and forty.
• 14:54
SPEAKER_03: So we're gonna we're gonna do the thing that we don't like to do, which is have to go back to work after walking around for you know six hours and stuff like that.
• 15:04
SPEAKER_03: But the the I'm actually getting to the point where I feel like this might be one of my last Comic-Cons, like depending on how much Charlie really wants to go next year, because the price is is exorbitant, you know, and we don't go to a lot of panels, we don't go to a lot of those things, we just move around and we're looking and we're enjoying the atmosphere.
• 15:25
SPEAKER_03: And I don't know if I want to pay$350 to enjoy the atmosphere.
• 15:32
  SPEAKER_03: That's fair.
• 15:32
  unknown: Yeah.
• 15:33
SPEAKER_01: I wonder if you could have done or like maybe if you could do in future years.
• 15:36
SPEAKER_01: Like, Anthony, didn't you get you got like press passes to a Comic Con recently, right?
• 15:42
SPEAKER_02: They they've um with with well, Anthony could talk a little bit about you know press passes, but I I what I will say is that in the past we as Geek Critique used to get press passes, but we we stopped being eligible for that a while ago.
• 15:58
  SPEAKER_02: Oh really?
• 15:58
SPEAKER_02: What did we do wrong?
• 15:59
SPEAKER_02: It's not that we stopped or it's not that we did anything wrong.
• 16:03
SPEAKER_02: It was just like the the requirements went like they they skyrocketed uh for like what you need um to meet.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_02: I I think it's something like I think it was like five million views in a year or something like that.
• 16:18
SPEAKER_02: No choose which you know to some people is is easy, but you know, we we don't do those numbers.
• 16:24
  SPEAKER_02: So yeah.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_01: Now that you're back, you gotta make those numbers happen for Rich's family, I guess.
• 16:29
  SPEAKER_01: I do.
• 16:30
SPEAKER_03: Well, I I years ago I did get a press pass uh when I was doing a podcast, a wrestling podcast.
• 16:36
SPEAKER_03: Um, but they've yeah, like they have tightened up a lot of the stuff.
• 16:41
SPEAKER_03: And honestly, just the prices are just super super super high.
• 16:44
  SPEAKER_03: I don't know.
• 16:45
SPEAKER_03: I'm going to anime con.
• 16:46
SPEAKER_03: I mean uh anime con, yeah, in August, and it's a lot it's a lot more affordable.
• 16:51
SPEAKER_03: So it's at the same place.
• 16:53
SPEAKER_01: Do you know what characters you guys are gonna dress as for a Comic Con?
• 16:56
SPEAKER_03: Uh I do not know what my son has decided yet.
• 16:59
SPEAKER_03: I mean, he got his hair cut recently to look like Dustin, kind of more, uh, from Stranger Things.
• 17:07
  SPEAKER_03: Stranger Things.
• 17:08
SPEAKER_03: Because he picks the coolest guys to emulate.
• 17:11
  SPEAKER_03: So um we'll see.
• 17:15
SPEAKER_02: Is that as wait, wait, wait, what what it was that shade at Dustin?
• 17:18
SPEAKER_03: Uh well, you know, I mean I'm not I'm not sure if that's the you know, if you want to like the the literal geeky one, you're like, hey, that's that's my style, you know, like hey, Steve Urkel looks like a cool dude, you know.
• 17:32
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna play the accordion and wear my suspenders high, you know.
• 17:35
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I don't I don't know.
• 17:37
  SPEAKER_01: Damn.
• 17:38
  SPEAKER_01: Damn, son.
• 17:39
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 17:40
SPEAKER_02: You guys will be pleased to know that Donut knows who Urkel is.
• 17:47
  unknown: It's exciting.
• 17:48
SPEAKER_05: Donut also knows who the A-Team is.
• 17:50
  SPEAKER_03: So that's great.
• 17:53
  SPEAKER_02: Yes.
• 17:53
SPEAKER_01: Um wait, I missed that reference.
• 17:56
SPEAKER_02: Uh there's don't just Donuts always like throwing out TV references.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_02: Like that's that's what Donuts uh probably best known for outside of being a cat that can talk.
• 18:07
SPEAKER_02: Um anyway, let's uh not talk about Dungeon Crawler Call because it's a very uh easy thing to just continue talking about.
• 18:16
SPEAKER_02: Um but we we should cover uh the the movie in hand, the movie at hand that we're we're trying to cover, which is the most recent monster verse film.
• 18:27
SPEAKER_02: So we have officially caught up with at least the film side of the monsterverse movies with this last or latest, I should say, film, because there is gonna be another one next year.
• 18:38
SPEAKER_02: Um I think it's called Supernova, Godzilla Kong Super Supernova.
• 18:43
SPEAKER_01: Shimo Supernova in the sky.
• 18:46
  SPEAKER_02: Um yeah, maybe.
• 18:48
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
• 18:48
SPEAKER_02: We don't know if Shimo's gonna be in it.
• 18:50
SPEAKER_02: I feel like Shimo has to be in it.
• 18:51
SPEAKER_01: I want the next one to be like what it like like Godzilla, and then in like in like smaller font it says Shimo Unchained.
• 19:02
SPEAKER_02: Okay, I don't know where this is going.
• 19:04
SPEAKER_02: Guys, let's uh let's discuss the the the fifth monster verse movie, Godzilla Kong the New Empire.
• 19:12
SPEAKER_02: Um we have a lot going on at the start of this movie, and it all culminates to a nice little Volkswagen advertisement uh somewhere about like 15-20 minutes in, where um That was absurd.
• 19:30
  SPEAKER_01: That was crazy.
• 19:32
SPEAKER_02: They were wild for that.
• 19:33
SPEAKER_02: We need to uh address a mistake we made in last uh in the last podcast.
• 19:38
SPEAKER_02: We kept calling this woman Irene Adler, who is a is a character from Sherlock.
• 19:43
SPEAKER_02: Her actual name is Eileen Andrews, very similar, but it's it's a different person.
• 19:49
SPEAKER_02: So Eileen Andrews picks up Gia from school, takes her to some park near the near the ocean, and it's like the most perfectly framed shot for a Volkswagen commercial.
• 20:01
SPEAKER_02: And that's you could clearly tell it was just is blatant uh product placement.
• 20:08
SPEAKER_02: But story-wise, we have Gia who's been having these weird dreams.
• 20:13
SPEAKER_02: She's she's not um paying attention in class, she's been drawing these uh three pyramid symbols and um somewhere in the hollow earth, the monarch outpost one in Hollow Earth is also picking up these weird seismic activities that somehow match up with that.
• 20:37
SPEAKER_02: Um so instead of you know taking this to monarch, you know, the people who are trained to you know decipher uh monster stuff, they take it to the crazy podcaster guy, Bernie.
• 20:51
SPEAKER_02: Because that's that's the guy we need leading the charge.
• 20:54
SPEAKER_02: Uh Rich, you have something to say.
• 20:56
  SPEAKER_03: I gotta say, I love Bernie.
• 21:00
SPEAKER_03: This scene when he's doing right before he opens the door, alright.
• 21:07
SPEAKER_03: And it's one of my one of the reasons why I immediately fell in love with this movie.
• 21:12
  SPEAKER_03: It started right away.
• 21:14
SPEAKER_03: I have always wondered watching the Avengers movies and countless superhero movies, what happens to Joe Schmoe's car?
• 21:25
SPEAKER_03: What happens when it gets crushed by the Hulk?
• 21:27
  SPEAKER_03: Right?
• 21:28
SPEAKER_03: What does that guy do?
• 21:29
SPEAKER_03: What is he gonna do?
• 21:30
SPEAKER_03: Does he call I only have collision, alright?
• 21:33
  SPEAKER_03: I don't have full coverage, alright?
• 21:35
SPEAKER_03: What happens to me, alright, if Thor's hammer falls out of the sky and crushes my car?
• 21:40
SPEAKER_03: I'm gonna be down, you know, the place that's not good, you know.
• 21:44
SPEAKER_03: They you know that saying you guys know the rowing and stuff, not good.
• 21:48
SPEAKER_01: So No, I have no idea what you're talking about.
• 21:52
  SPEAKER_01: The rowing?
• 21:52
  SPEAKER_01: What?
• 21:53
SPEAKER_03: I would be River sticks.
• 21:55
SPEAKER_03: Yes, I would be up a river, you know, without without news.
• 22:00
  SPEAKER_03: Bears.
• 22:01
SPEAKER_03: But I could get gargantuan insurance, which protects against Titan damage.
• 22:08
  SPEAKER_03: And man, chef's kiss.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_03: They started off with such a small little thing, but it's such a it's such a it's a thing that no other movies ever that I can remember has ever referenced.
• 22:21
SPEAKER_03: What does the real world do when there's that kind of threat?
• 22:27
SPEAKER_03: And I'm happy to say that Bernie is a proud sponsor.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_03: You know, he that was the sponsor of his show, much like the sponsor of our show is Voodoo Ranger Juice Force IPA.
• 22:37
  SPEAKER_03: Oh, geez.
• 22:38
  SPEAKER_03: Very delicious.
• 22:38
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, we're not sponsored by them, guys.
• 22:40
  SPEAKER_02: Okay.
• 22:41
  SPEAKER_02: Well, you know what?
• 22:41
SPEAKER_02: At least that was a better segue than my Order 66 joke.
• 22:46
SPEAKER_02: So uh yeah, we're not sponsored by Voodoo Ranger yet.
• 22:52
SPEAKER_02: Um, but it it is a juicy beer, and uh much like this film, there's there's plenty of juice in this movie, you know.
• 23:01
SPEAKER_02: Like I I think about um Kong, you know, tracking down a bunch of, or it's seemingly being chased by a bunch of like uh I forget the name of the creature itself, but they're kind of like dog, uh like I think they're called wart dogs, wart dogs.
• 23:19
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, with like wart dogs.
• 23:21
SPEAKER_02: They chase him down, and it's like, oh man, he's he's being cornered over here.
• 23:25
  SPEAKER_02: Nope, he's trapped them.
• 23:27
SPEAKER_02: Like you you think that you're in there with them?
• 23:32
  SPEAKER_02: No, no.
• 23:33
SPEAKER_02: They're in them, they're in there with him, you know, and uh he is he's ripping them apart, showering in their juice, and then realizing, wow, I have all this green goo.
• 23:46
SPEAKER_02: Why why does everyone in the Hollow Earth have green goo, by the way?
• 23:49
SPEAKER_02: Like a lot and and it's just very it's edible, you know, like their their their green caustic blood is is edible.
• 23:57
SPEAKER_02: Um, but Kong doesn't like being covered in the stuff, he just showers in it for fun, and then he showers for real because he has a nice little shower waterfall.
• 24:05
SPEAKER_02: Um, which is another little thing that I I genuinely love about this movie.
• 24:10
SPEAKER_02: There's so many little things uh that Kong and even Godzilla do that anthropomorphize them in ways that you know they don't need to speak to allow you to get into their their mindset.
• 24:30
SPEAKER_02: And and Kong is such a he's so easy to read from just his uh like the musculature on her on his face and stuff and his stance.
• 24:41
SPEAKER_02: Um but yeah, well uh Anthony, what what are your thoughts on Godzilla?
• 24:47
SPEAKER_02: Like where does Godzilla start this film?
• 24:50
SPEAKER_02: Um and what are your thoughts on like what he's up to?
• 24:54
SPEAKER_04: Godzilla is on a rampage.
• 24:58
SPEAKER_04: Godzilla is seemingly powering up, you know.
• 25:02
SPEAKER_04: He's he's in he's uh charging up, he's he's prepping for for something to throw down.
• 25:09
SPEAKER_04: Uh he knows something that's coming, and so he's prepping for that.
• 25:13
SPEAKER_04: So he just he goes after I forgot the the creature.
• 25:18
SPEAKER_04: Um he goes after some creature in Antarctica and um like just absorbs all the radiation over there.
• 25:27
SPEAKER_04: And yeah, I mean that he he pretty much goes into like the the monster verse version of the the hyperbolic time chamber and just gets all of the yeah yeah so pretty much yeah that's his thing he got juiced up by solar um solar rays that coalesced in the Arctic.
• 25:48
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so he he defeats the monster Scylla in Rome, takes a nice nap in the Coliseum.
• 25:56
SPEAKER_02: My favorite part he curls up like a cat, you know, if I fits, I sits.
• 26:03
SPEAKER_02: And then he makes a beeline for the Arctic, um, kills Tiamat, just like shows up at this other thing's you know, house, basically, and says he's kind of like the the guy in um Unbreakable, the the villain in Unbreakable that like just shows up at those people's houses, and you're like, I like this house, I think I'm gonna take it.
• 26:27
SPEAKER_02: And he does, you know, he takes the house, he sleeps in it for a little bit, um, absorbs all of the the necessary energy for himself, and then he's done.
• 26:38
SPEAKER_02: He goes back to Rome after everything's said and done.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_01: But moments that I love from Godzilla in this movie are the nap, the nap in the Coliseum.
• 26:48
SPEAKER_01: I love that at the end he thought, wow, that was a pretty good place to nap, and then at the end of the movie returns back to his nap spot, and like those Italians were big mad.
• 26:59
SPEAKER_01: They were like, What like imagine that like one of your biggest tourist things and like a huge historical?
• 27:06
SPEAKER_03: But he's such a jerk, too, about it.
• 27:08
SPEAKER_03: Like he goes back, but like he doesn't care when he leaves, like he knocks part of like the Coliseum out, you know.
• 27:14
SPEAKER_03: Like he's kicks, he's not even careful about like his bed, you know.
• 27:18
SPEAKER_01: Like he couldn't care less.
• 27:19
SPEAKER_01: No, no, everyone could not care less.
• 27:21
SPEAKER_01: I want to watch all of the Godzilla movies again and just to like do a bridge count of every bridge he completely unnecessarily destroys.
• 27:32
SPEAKER_01: I love when he's swimming and there's a bridge and he actually jumps up, kind of like people that like jump up to like tap the top of a staircase or something.
• 27:39
SPEAKER_01: He like jumps up to just hit him.
• 27:40
SPEAKER_01: He's just like, I hate, but he hates bridges.
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_01: He hates them.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_02: Like just like you with sandcastles, yeah.
• 27:47
SPEAKER_02: Just like you with sandcastles on the beach.
• 27:50
  SPEAKER_02: You just gotta destroy.
• 27:51
SPEAKER_02: Look at that happy kid playing in the sand.
• 27:54
SPEAKER_02: Gotta run over, gotta run over it.
• 27:56
SPEAKER_02: Uh no, but uh even like when he goes back to the Coliseum at the end of the movie, if you look closely, you could see that they're they have a bunch of like scaffolding up in the in like the middle of the Coliseum because they're trying to like rebuild what he broke.
• 28:10
SPEAKER_01: And he's just like naptag.
• 28:14
SPEAKER_02: You know, it's just the best.
• 28:16
SPEAKER_02: You can't hate on that, but um, yeah.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_02: Uh what what about the new threat that becomes um apparent at some point, you know, in the movie?
• 28:31
SPEAKER_02: We we know that monarch outpost one is attacked by something that looks like Kong's hands, but uh Eileen Andrews goes, no, that's not Kong.
• 28:44
  SPEAKER_02: That's something else.
• 28:46
  SPEAKER_02: Um, that's another thing.
• 28:50
SPEAKER_02: I I have noticed in these movies, especially the last two, there are a lot of one-off lines that you can tell were almost used for like the trailers, you know, like there there are lines where like um people reacting to things that could very easily work in advertising.
• 29:13
SPEAKER_01: And listeners, we were once again at a point where Dakota's taking my ideas and saying that they're his own.
• 29:20
SPEAKER_01: I said that during the last movie.
• 29:21
SPEAKER_01: I was like, you know what they do a lot is they have a lot of just scenes where it's clearly for the trailer just in case.
• 29:27
SPEAKER_02: Jen, I paused the movie and I told you that.
• 29:29
  SPEAKER_01: I thought I I think I said that with my mind.
• 29:32
SPEAKER_02: I think you agreed with me.
• 29:34
SPEAKER_01: We're kind of like the Eewi.
• 29:36
SPEAKER_01: Maybe we're becoming like telepathically linked, so it's hard to tell where where concepts begin and end.
• 29:41
SPEAKER_03: Dakota actually sent me a picture of a piece of paper where he had written that idea down.
• 29:47
SPEAKER_03: So I can confirm that true.
• 29:50
  SPEAKER_01: Dakota steals my ideas.
• 29:52
SPEAKER_02: I do sometimes, but not on purpose.
• 29:54
SPEAKER_02: But this one is actually something that I thought of.
• 29:57
SPEAKER_01: Like Zelda Fitzgerald over here.
• 30:00
SPEAKER_02: Oh, and uh, but yeah, there's there's a bunch of lines like uh that that Bernie especially says that are just like quirky, like one-liners, like, yes! You know, like he will like uh he will be the emotive one just so that we can uh get that like uh little zinger into the trailer or whatever.
• 30:20
  SPEAKER_02: But uh I I like Bernie.
• 30:22
SPEAKER_02: Anthony, why do you hate Bernie so much?
• 30:25
SPEAKER_04: Ah man, you know, he uh he's everything you hate about podcasters.
• 30:30
SPEAKER_04: It's the it's the human face of the the camp level of this movie.
• 30:36
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah, he is.
• 30:38
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 30:39
SPEAKER_01: For me, one thing that bothered me about Bernie was that like at the beginning he was very clearly recording everything that was happening, and he had like his little stupid narration for his documentary or whatever.
• 30:51
SPEAKER_01: And then by the end, where all of the big drama is happening, you don't see him recording anymore.
• 30:56
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, why isn't he getting like Bernie?
• 30:58
SPEAKER_01: Why aren't you getting this?
• 30:59
SPEAKER_01: This is really important to have on film.
• 31:03
  SPEAKER_04: So he's the there's a story.
• 31:08
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, there there's a there's there is a story aspect to him like stopping.
• 31:15
SPEAKER_02: Um and it's trapper that that the one guy, um he basically he's the one who Ace Ventura guy?
• 31:23
SPEAKER_02: Ace Ventura guy goes, Well what are you gonna do with that film when you you get out of here?
• 31:29
SPEAKER_02: Are you just gonna like show the world this you know um untouched civilization and like within a couple years it's just gonna all be um mown over by tourism and everything?
• 31:41
SPEAKER_02: Um and and then he it seemingly uh the it looks as though Bernie doesn't actually hear him, and all he hears is like you're you're a really uh brave person or something like that.
• 31:55
  SPEAKER_02: You save the world.
• 31:56
SPEAKER_02: And Bernie's like, Can you say that again for the camera?
• 31:59
SPEAKER_02: Um I think the movie doesn't show the rest of that arc.
• 32:03
SPEAKER_02: They just kind of you just kind of have to assume, like, oh well he doesn't pick up the camera for the rest of the movie.
• 32:09
SPEAKER_02: He must realize, oh, maybe I shouldn't be filming these people's live lives or whatever.
• 32:16
  SPEAKER_02: So I don't know.
• 32:17
  SPEAKER_02: I I can see that.
• 32:19
SPEAKER_01: No, like he wants to keep the secret of like this other branch of Ewe people that are still surviving.
• 32:25
  SPEAKER_01: Oh, I see.
• 32:26
SPEAKER_01: Maybe the scene got cut or something.
• 32:28
SPEAKER_02: It's probab yeah, probably did.
• 32:30
SPEAKER_02: I think it was in the book.
• 32:31
SPEAKER_03: I um I remember that happening in the movie.
• 32:35
  SPEAKER_03: I thought.
• 32:36
SPEAKER_01: So that scene happens, but like we don't see Bernie decide like I'm gonna stop reporting.
• 32:40
SPEAKER_03: Oh no, no, no, no, no, no, yeah.
• 32:41
SPEAKER_03: We don't I just mean uh like head exposition.
• 32:45
SPEAKER_03: I uh no, I mean I I'm not gonna say anything negative about anything here.
• 32:51
  SPEAKER_03: Uh I love Bernie.
• 32:52
  SPEAKER_03: Uh he's hilarious.
• 32:54
SPEAKER_03: Uh I I definitely jumped a sh uh jumped last week and when I spoke about uh what's his name?
• 33:01
SPEAKER_03: Is this Dominic who gets eaten by the the flower?
• 33:05
SPEAKER_03: Uh the basically Venus flytrap tree?
• 33:08
  SPEAKER_03: Mikael.
• 33:08
SPEAKER_03: Mikael, yeah, Mikhail, not Dominic.
• 33:10
SPEAKER_03: Yes, you know, close enough.
• 33:11
  SPEAKER_03: There's a K there's like a K sound in there.
• 33:14
SPEAKER_03: Uh when he when he gets eaten by uh the basically the Venus flytrap.
• 33:19
  SPEAKER_03: I uh I really like that.
• 33:20
SPEAKER_03: I love Ace Matura guy, uh the man a trapper.
• 33:24
SPEAKER_03: Uh he's so such a ridiculous individual.
• 33:29
  SPEAKER_03: He's such a caricature.
• 33:32
SPEAKER_03: Um, you know, but obviously the guy who shows the most growth in the entire movie.
• 33:38
SPEAKER_03: And this is hands down, this is not debatable, right?
• 33:41
SPEAKER_03: And he shows weakness, right?
• 33:43
SPEAKER_03: He he shows kindness, right?
• 33:46
SPEAKER_03: He wins people over through acts of goodness, right?
• 33:50
SPEAKER_03: And he even, you know, he overcomes a disability.
• 33:55
  SPEAKER_03: There's a lot that's a lot of growth there.
• 33:57
SPEAKER_03: And that man, that's that's none other than Kong.
• 34:01
SPEAKER_03: I mean, man, this guy took off to another level this movie.
• 34:05
  SPEAKER_03: Uh the power glove.
• 34:07
SPEAKER_01: So wait, you're saying that Kong had more character development than Shimo, who was enslaved for generations, and and the chains were broken, and then fought back against her oppressor.
• 34:21
SPEAKER_01: I don't actually know the gender of Shimo.
• 34:22
SPEAKER_02: I would also like to throw into the ring Suko, the uh the the baby Kong.
• 34:28
SPEAKER_02: The baby Kong that looks like Dewey from Malcolm in the Middle.
• 34:32
SPEAKER_02: Um I would I would just like to He kind of does, or that one kid.
• 34:38
SPEAKER_04: Um, I don't know if you've seen the show, The Middle.
• 34:41
SPEAKER_04: It's essentially like the modern age, Malcolm in the Middle.
• 34:44
SPEAKER_04: There's literally a kid that looks like him and he and his like shoulders are like the same.
• 34:50
SPEAKER_04: But yeah, he's like Dewey.
• 34:52
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, so uh Suko, the the the baby Kong, I think actually has a pretty pretty strong arc as well.
• 35:00
SPEAKER_02: You know, I'm not putting down Kong's or Shimo's arc, but like the the idea where like you know nothing else except subservience to Skarking your entire life.
• 35:12
SPEAKER_02: You are trained to trap um uh Kong into I guess they were hunting.
• 35:19
SPEAKER_02: I don't I don't really know what they were doing at that moment, but he was trying to trick Kong into um falling for uh this this trick and being another slave of the Scar King.
• 35:32
SPEAKER_02: And for a while, um even after you know Kong is like facing down Skar King in their like little ape layer, he is still unsure about where his allegiances lie.
• 35:44
SPEAKER_02: Like you could see like the uns uncertainty when he starts laughing along with the rest of the group, and I love that.
• 35:50
SPEAKER_02: You know, it's a it's again one of those characters that is amprop anthropomorphized enough where like you can understand human emotions through a a giant titan, a giant kaiju creature.
• 36:05
SPEAKER_02: Um and I I I actually really liked his character.
• 36:08
SPEAKER_02: Specifically, I like the scene where Kong picks him up by his ankles and starts beating other other uh apes with with the baby Kong.
• 36:21
SPEAKER_01: Oh I like the scene where evil monkey dude don't remember his name.
• 36:26
  SPEAKER_02: Skar King.
• 36:27
SPEAKER_01: Skar King, where he like is trying to make fun of Kong and he's like, look at this guy, fake tooth, ha ha.
• 36:36
SPEAKER_02: Like good one, Skar King.
• 36:39
SPEAKER_02: Wow, this guy has technology beyond our understanding.
• 36:42
SPEAKER_02: Let's make fun of him.
• 36:44
SPEAKER_01: What a loser! As someone who works with kids, you can kind of see that happening.
• 36:51
SPEAKER_01: Like you can see when kids are just like like they're ready to put somebody else down and they'll look for any reason at all, anything that they could think of that's slightly different to just roast them.
• 37:01
  SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
• 37:02
SPEAKER_02: What did you think of uh Suko, the the the baby Kong, Anthony?
• 37:08
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um kind of kind of like you, like he he was kinda kind of goofy.
• 37:14
SPEAKER_04: He did uh come in to help Kong at some crucial time, so that did um that did make up for his uh his beginning, you know, and uh trying to trap him.
• 37:28
SPEAKER_02: And he ultimately frees Shimo by like destroying that little crystal that was at the end of the uh that little um spine whip, which was a cool weapon, actually.
• 37:41
SPEAKER_02: Like it was like I was a cool weapon.
• 37:42
SPEAKER_02: I like the the usage of um bones in this movie, because there's a lot of bones in this movie.
• 37:50
SPEAKER_02: One thing that I will say that I I did not like about this movie, um, and I usually don't have this as a criticism because I I usually like the human characters.
• 38:08
SPEAKER_02: I did not like the lore dump that um Eileen gives to everybody when they get to the Ewi uh cave where sudden you know, I can uh I can understand that she knows how to read the hieroglyphs of um the EWI people.
• 38:32
  SPEAKER_02: I can get that.
• 38:33
SPEAKER_02: I have no issues with that.
• 38:35
SPEAKER_02: But the fact that she's able to just completely translate words that like would absolutely not be uh found in like on Skull Island, like she was able to know who like Shimo and Skar King were, but like there was absolutely no way that she would like it's not an alphabetized um hieroglyphic symbol.
• 38:59
SPEAKER_02: So she's just like it's like she's reading from a chapter book, but there's no way, there's no time for her to have actually deciphered anything, and it makes no sense how she deciphered it.
• 39:11
SPEAKER_02: So that's just uh I guess it's a minor nitpick because obviously the the logic here is meant to be glossed over and it's meant to just be um exposition for the sake of the story.
• 39:24
SPEAKER_04: Dakota, if you're looking for logic in this movie, you will not find it.
• 39:28
SPEAKER_04: So don't look for it in this movie.
• 39:30
SPEAKER_02: No, but I have but that's what I do, you know.
• 39:33
  SPEAKER_02: You know, that's what I do.
• 39:34
SPEAKER_02: I and there there is there is, you know.
• 39:40
SPEAKER_02: I do like the actual lore of, you know, like the the great apes came from Hollow Earth, and that's how they got to Skull Island.
• 39:52
SPEAKER_02: And I like that idea.
• 39:54
SPEAKER_02: I like that idea that there is um the the book makes it a lot more clear where like Scar King was enslaved and the great apes were like banished to Hollow Earth, and they kind of explain that God's gonna be.
• 40:06
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, they say that in the movie.
• 40:08
SPEAKER_02: There's more of a story, but um I so I don't mind any of that stuff.
• 40:14
  SPEAKER_02: I like that.
• 40:15
SPEAKER_02: I like the lore about the monsters.
• 40:17
SPEAKER_02: I just don't think the the leaps that we were able to like comprehend that lore made.
• 40:30
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know, I didn't I didn't like that part.
• 40:32
  SPEAKER_01: I I I'll add to your criticism.
• 40:35
  SPEAKER_02: Please.
• 40:36
SPEAKER_01: Um I thought it was just kind of weird because this is like obviously like there's still Ewe people, but aren't they like thousands of generations separated?
• 40:44
SPEAKER_01: Or not thousands, but like many generations separated from the UE people that Gia was a part of.
• 40:52
SPEAKER_01: Like they even they said multiple times, like these these like you know, ruins are significantly older or whatever.
• 40:59
SPEAKER_01: Like they kept talking about that, but like why would the language be the same that she could interpret it?
• 41:05
SPEAKER_01: I don't know, like you like like language naturally changes and develops in different ways over time.
• 41:12
SPEAKER_02: And so I just think it's weird that she like would that they would have the exact same so I mean that's actually a little bit more explainable because the Iwi people are non-verbal for the most part, they they very rarely use their voice, even on Skull Island, like they were very quiet individuals, so they they aren't known for a physic like a a vocal language.
• 41:35
SPEAKER_01: So I I I was like jumping onto like help your criticism, and you're criticizing my addition to your criticism.
• 41:41
SPEAKER_01: Is that what's happening right now?
• 41:42
SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I that makes sense though, because right, like both variation in language comes from dialect, right, which is regional because of pronunciation and things like that, right?
• 41:52
SPEAKER_01: So but even among different generations that speak the same language, their their like written communication varies.
• 42:00
  SPEAKER_02: Yes, no, I I don't disagree there.
• 42:02
SPEAKER_02: Um and and yeah, so that there there would be some um there would be some hiccup in trying to decipher these things, but not to Eileen Andrews.
• 42:15
SPEAKER_02: I keep wanting to say Irene Andrews.
• 42:17
  SPEAKER_02: I do me too.
• 42:18
  SPEAKER_02: Um but anyway.
• 42:22
SPEAKER_02: Um what did we think of the Scar King?
• 42:28
SPEAKER_02: Rich, thoughts on Big Bad Orangutan slash ape.
• 42:34
SPEAKER_03: Singularly evil in a way that I love because he's just evil.
• 42:39
  SPEAKER_03: Alright.
• 42:40
SPEAKER_03: There's no backstory that he got abused as a young ape, right?
• 42:47
SPEAKER_03: He's just ferocious and terrible, and he rules with an iron fist, and everyone's scared of him.
• 42:54
SPEAKER_03: I I did think that it was weird that he like I guess you could say this about any type of villain, right?
• 43:04
SPEAKER_03: But there's so many of them.
• 43:07
SPEAKER_03: Like, there's so many of his crew that like I'm just surprised that like seven didn't get disgruntled and just be like, I don't know, let's put up a giant rat and form a union, you know.
• 43:19
  SPEAKER_03: Like, I I don't know.
• 43:20
SPEAKER_03: Like, I it it it's just like surprising to me as a union member to see the so many pe so many constituents there and and just no fight back, you know.
• 43:33
SPEAKER_03: Um that was a little through.
• 43:35
SPEAKER_04: Like, I f I felt like Kong, like on a one 1v1, no weapons, would just like whip him.
• 43:41
  SPEAKER_04: Just nothing else added.
• 43:44
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 43:45
  SPEAKER_04: You know, cage match.
• 43:47
SPEAKER_04: Kong is Kong Kong's huge.
• 43:49
SPEAKER_04: Like you put it like the other guy might have been the other one might have been maybe a what a little taller, but come on, super thin.
• 43:56
  SPEAKER_04: Kong was Kong's literally a tank.
• 44:02
SPEAKER_02: I like when um you know Kong tries to help like the the elderly ape up and the the sl like the um the slave driver um just like gets in his face and starts yelling and he's just like doing all these crazy like facial uh movements and and just screaming in front of Kong's face and Kong is just like he just crunches to death.
• 44:29
SPEAKER_02: Well we don't know if he died, but like it looked like he probably died um from that from that punch.
• 44:35
SPEAKER_02: Uh it's such a a funny thing, but yeah, um I guess when it comes to um animals and hierarchy within animals, they do have a fear and respect um like totem pole hierarchy thing that they that they try to maintain, you know, through aggression.
• 44:59
SPEAKER_02: And most of these great apes probably do not have the fighting prowess that Kong uh required while he lived on Skull Island, you know, like Kong was fighting for his life every single day of his life since he was a baby.
• 45:17
SPEAKER_02: These guys probably don't have that.
• 45:19
SPEAKER_02: And and Scar King, while he's a good fighter, he's he uses weapons and he uses um the fear of a greater monster um as as like uh a trump card that he he drops onto the battlefield.
• 45:34
SPEAKER_02: You know, like that that's his exodia, you know, like um he I just I uh like like Rich said, I think that he's uh deliciously evil.
• 45:47
SPEAKER_02: Um he has a whole bunch of people just scared of him.
• 45:52
SPEAKER_02: Um he has a harem of women who all have like little baby uh little orange babies little orange babies, so you could tell which like who is his son, including the little Kong dude uh in this movie, Suko.
• 46:07
SPEAKER_02: He is very clearly a son of Scar King, but he goes against his father, and he has a found father by the end of this movie.
• 46:13
SPEAKER_02: He has a mentor, um one from a distant land, a land called Skull Island.
• 46:21
  SPEAKER_02: Kong.
• 46:21
  SPEAKER_02: That's his name, Kong.
• 46:24
  SPEAKER_01: I was confused.
• 46:25
  SPEAKER_01: Good to know.
• 46:25
  SPEAKER_01: It was Godzilla.
• 46:27
SPEAKER_03: I mean, even when they had to like jumpstart Kong's heart, man, like what what a great and the way he struggles with at first with uh the power fist, right?
• 46:38
SPEAKER_02: But then he masters it, you know, and they're like he's like he just pumps his fist into the air.
• 46:45
SPEAKER_03: I mean I just they definitely they that was for the trailer.
• 46:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that was that was definitely one of those trailer moments.
• 46:52
  SPEAKER_03: Listen.
• 46:58
SPEAKER_03: I love this movie because it knows what it is and it doesn't care.
• 47:05
SPEAKER_03: And I like and it's it it just it's almost like for me like Evil Dead like kind of type.
• 47:13
SPEAKER_03: This franchise reminds me a lot of Evil Dead in that they're not gonna like it at all, right?
• 47:19
SPEAKER_03: But they they know they're ridiculous and they don't care, but this one is great because like the gra like the CGI is so great that I'm like, this is it really is.
• 47:31
  SPEAKER_03: I just I know it's bad and I don't care.
• 47:36
SPEAKER_03: It makes me love it more.
• 47:39
  SPEAKER_02: It's it's intentionally bad.
• 47:40
SPEAKER_02: That's that's part of it, you know.
• 47:42
SPEAKER_01: I don't know if like the movie, like if the film creators would be like, yeah, we made this intentionally bad.
• 47:47
SPEAKER_02: When they add camp, you kind of have to uh like play or on like view it on that level.
• 47:54
SPEAKER_02: Here's the thing um you people can call this slop, you know, they can call it like a bad movie or whatever.
• 48:02
SPEAKER_02: Um, but when it's built to be like that, um it almost you have to view it with a different lens, you know, like uh when a movie is super campy and on purpose, um then you view it through that lens, like okay, this is how this world works.
• 48:22
SPEAKER_02: This is um the crazy zaniness that goes on in the monster verse.
• 48:28
SPEAKER_02: And I think um not to beat a dead horse, but like the opposite of that for me is something like Mandalorian and Grogu, which was not intended to be in a term slop, but I I I end up liking something like this more than I liked Mandalorian and Grogu.
• 48:52
SPEAKER_02: Just it you know, I I really I I did not sit well with Mandalorian Magic.
• 49:00
  SPEAKER_03: George, I'm really sorry.
• 49:01
  SPEAKER_03: Um, Mr.
• 49:02
SPEAKER_03: Faloni, I'm very sorry that you had to hear that.
• 49:04
SPEAKER_03: Uh, not everybody on this podcast agrees with those views, Mr.
• 49:07
  SPEAKER_03: Falone.
• 49:08
  SPEAKER_03: Please, uh, Mr.
• 49:10
  SPEAKER_03: Favreau, forgive us, alright?
• 49:12
SPEAKER_03: Please still leave us a five-star juicy review.
• 49:15
SPEAKER_03: I I I know that you guys are very angry right now, and uh we may never get a call back from Warner Brothers, but yeah, there we are.
• 49:24
  SPEAKER_01: Warner Brothers?
• 49:25
  SPEAKER_01: You mean Lucasville?
• 49:26
SPEAKER_01: Oh, I didn't think Warner Brothers did.
• 49:28
SPEAKER_03: I'm sorry, but no Warner Brothers.
• 49:29
SPEAKER_03: I didn't even tell you what I revealed the side deal.
• 49:32
SPEAKER_02: We are not we are not resenting that terrible.
• 49:34
SPEAKER_02: No, Warner Brothers, they they they they own uh the the rights to the monster verse.
• 49:39
  SPEAKER_02: You're right.
• 49:39
SPEAKER_02: We might not get a call from Warner Brothers.
• 49:42
SPEAKER_01: Um I have a question about the movie.
• 49:44
  SPEAKER_02: Yes.
• 49:45
SPEAKER_01: So in the end, like one part where I kind of lost a little respect for Shimo was where she gave where she gave Kong and Tiny Man a ride home on her back.
• 49:59
SPEAKER_01: Like you've had years of enslavement where you were like hauling this monkey around.
• 50:03
SPEAKER_01: It kind of reminds me of like the centaurs in um in Harry Potter, where they're like super indignant about like letting anybody ride on their backs.
• 50:14
SPEAKER_01: You know what I mean?
• 50:15
SPEAKER_01: Like they're like, we are not servants to humans.
• 50:17
SPEAKER_01: Like, I want to see an arc for Shima where like she gets to that point where she's like, no, like I'm not just gonna be your pack mule.
• 50:26
SPEAKER_01: Like you guys have legs, you can walk.
• 50:28
SPEAKER_01: Maybe if Baby Man was on her back, I would accept that, but there was no reason for Kong to roll up on her back like that.
• 50:36
SPEAKER_01: Like I wanted to see more.
• 50:38
SPEAKER_01: I wanted to see more freedom.
• 50:40
SPEAKER_01: I genuinely like the chains were gone, but why are you still acting like a servant?
• 50:44
SPEAKER_02: I maybe she likes that.
• 50:48
  SPEAKER_02: I don't know.
• 50:49
SPEAKER_02: Maybe, maybe she uh is kind of like a horse.
• 50:53
SPEAKER_02: They're just built to be ridden, you know?
• 50:54
SPEAKER_02: Like they the horse isn't mad that you're riding it.
• 50:57
SPEAKER_02: That's not how the centaurs felt though.
• 50:58
SPEAKER_02: You're right, but this isn't a centaur, this is Shimo.
• 51:02
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I was a little disappointed in Shimo with that.
• 51:04
SPEAKER_01: I was like, Shimo, really?
• 51:06
  SPEAKER_02: You've come so far.
• 51:08
  SPEAKER_02: Shimo no!
• 51:09
  SPEAKER_00: Shimo no.
• 51:10
SPEAKER_02: Um we do have a returning monster in this movie.
• 51:15
  SPEAKER_02: Um Anthony's favorite.
• 51:17
SPEAKER_02: Um it's uh a smaller Titan than Godzilla and or Kong.
• 51:25
SPEAKER_02: Uh but Anthony, what did you think of the return of the late great Mothra?
• 51:31
  SPEAKER_04: I do like Mothra.
• 51:33
SPEAKER_04: Mothra's Mothra's been around in like the the Godzilla movies for a very long time.
• 51:41
  SPEAKER_02: So an OG.
• 51:43
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
• 51:44
SPEAKER_04: An O OG Godzilla ally.
• 51:48
SPEAKER_04: Um yeah, like it it it's it's cool.
• 51:52
SPEAKER_03: I I liked that um she came in and were was uh kind of like webbing up some of the apes with uh with like a like a silk you know like a yeah she has like a that that silk silk spray silk spray yeah so that that was pretty cool but yeah no it was that that um Mothra came in um Rich what do you feel about Gia being the um the link to to Mothra I the only thing I have a problem with was how I said a as I was watching it and I don't ask a lot of questions of these movies I don't but I said so now if she has a baby with like even the EWEs from there that Ewe won't be a pure born skull island EWE so now like is that enough blood magic to get the Moth the Mothra to rise?
• 53:03
SPEAKER_01: Oh so you're just curious about like Ee eugenics?
• 53:06
SPEAKER_02: You're thinking about future generations of Mothra adherents.
• 53:10
SPEAKER_03: Yeah yeah like if this has to happen again right so like who's gonna summon Mothra?
• 53:16
SPEAKER_03: Yeah what if it happens in two generations like the like because it said like there had to be an Eewi from Skull Island.
• 53:24
SPEAKER_03: Which to me also is weird because if an Eewi from Skull Island has to be an Ewi from Middle Earth, not Middle Earth, sorry, Hollow Earth.
• 53:34
SPEAKER_03: Eleven Zays um has to be, right?
• 53:37
SPEAKER_03: Like you would think that by watching this movie, the logic that's established is the Ewi must have some of them, right, gun up through Skull Island, right?
• 53:47
SPEAKER_03: Through the the portal to Skull Island.
• 53:50
  SPEAKER_02: Correct.
• 53:50
SPEAKER_03: So that means that the Ewe's from Skull Island.
• 53:55
SPEAKER_03: That's like if if an Italian guy move uh moves to the United States and they're like, you know, well we really need an Italian from the United States.
• 54:05
SPEAKER_03: Like, no, he's already from Italy.
• 54:07
SPEAKER_03: Like, why did he have to go to the United States to qualify to to to fall under your ranking system?
• 54:13
SPEAKER_03: Like that is the only thing that kind of bothered me, but then I saw Kong again and I I smiled.
• 54:19
SPEAKER_02: I almost wonder if it didn't actually matter that she was from Skull Island, it was just the fulfillment of prophecy for them that someone had returned, and it was at this moment that Mothra would be um utilized to stop Kong and Godzilla from fighting so that they could face off against the greater threat.
• 54:39
SPEAKER_02: This film is very convoluted.
• 54:40
SPEAKER_02: I I I maybe they have other ruins with like other instructions for future times.
• 54:45
SPEAKER_01: Uh they they definitely there's like ruins next door that are like, okay, so now it's someone with ancestry from Skull Island, but one of our Ewe.
• 54:55
SPEAKER_01: What I will say about Eileen Adler or whatever is gonna show up and be able to read it very specifically.
• 55:02
  SPEAKER_01: Oh guys, there's a there's a footnote here.
• 55:06
SPEAKER_02: Yes, there's there's a being coming to Earth uh in a couple of years called Destroya.
• 55:13
SPEAKER_02: Hmm, don't know what that means, but it sounds bad.
• 55:18
SPEAKER_01: Um she goes to the next room and she's like, so in the next episode, we're gonna be talking about a supernova.
• 55:28
SPEAKER_01: Anthony, you have you look like you have something to say.
• 55:31
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, next film is gonna be a multiverse one, and uh Godzilla 1998 is gonna show up.
• 55:38
SPEAKER_02: Oh, that would be terrible.
• 55:40
SPEAKER_02: Uh uh, but great at the same time, terrible, but great.
• 55:43
SPEAKER_02: Is this just like a more evil Godzilla?
• 55:46
SPEAKER_02: 1998 Godzilla is the um Matthew Broderick Godzilla where it was just like a different design and yeah.
• 55:55
SPEAKER_02: It was it was interesting.
• 55:57
SPEAKER_01: I think they mentioned that it only murders in the building.
• 55:59
  SPEAKER_02: They do.
• 56:00
SPEAKER_02: They mentioned Matthew Broderick's uh time with Godzilla.
• 56:05
  SPEAKER_02: Um anything else?
• 56:11
SPEAKER_02: I do think that the Ewe village in Hollow Earth is not very well fleshed out.
• 56:21
SPEAKER_03: In the sense that gardens and like porches.
• 56:26
SPEAKER_02: I just can't picture what they do on a daily basis, besides look at some pyramids and like they move rocks to deal with the magnetism.
• 56:34
SPEAKER_02: I guess, yeah, no, we we saw that.
• 56:37
SPEAKER_02: Um but if if I I guess it's it's kind of interesting, like when you introduce a fictional civilization, if you can't picture how they live their lives, and they only see you only see them in like this futuristic setting or doing some like crazy ritual, then they don't feel very fleshed out to me.
• 57:07
SPEAKER_02: So um this the human side of this movie is uh for me the weakest of these five movies.
• 57:18
SPEAKER_02: Um but the actual monster fighting is probably up there.
• 57:26
SPEAKER_02: I think I you know, honestly, the monster fighting is is great in every one of these movies, but um I I do love the the fight and the creativity that they had with this one, you know, destroying the pyramids in ge in Egypt.
• 57:43
SPEAKER_02: Um absolutely obliterating Rio de Janeiro.
• 57:47
SPEAKER_01: I kind of wanted to talk about that fight actually.
• 57:50
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, so deserved in the end, oh sorry, I raised my hand by asking.
• 57:54
  SPEAKER_01: Lower your hand.
• 57:55
SPEAKER_01: Um so in the in the end of that fight, they just like rip apart Scar King, right?
• 58:04
SPEAKER_01: They they like they like freeze him and then they break him up.
• 58:07
SPEAKER_01: They shatter him, they shatter him.
• 58:09
SPEAKER_01: So his like uh biological material, his flesh, just like goes all over the city.
• 58:19
  SPEAKER_01: It goes everywhere.
• 58:20
SPEAKER_01: You see it, it goes all over the place, right?
• 58:23
SPEAKER_01: And I'm like, man, that's really gonna smell.
• 58:26
SPEAKER_01: Like they're gonna have to clean that up fast.
• 58:28
SPEAKER_01: And then I sent to Dakota, I was like, at least it's cold.
• 58:31
  SPEAKER_02: Because of Shimo.
• 58:32
  SPEAKER_02: Shimo made it cold.
• 58:34
SPEAKER_01: Literally, like a second later, Godzilla like heats it back up.
• 58:39
SPEAKER_01: And I was like, man, that town's gonna stink.
• 58:43
SPEAKER_01: You got dirty, dirty monkey skin just flopping around in your in your ocean breeze.
• 58:50
  SPEAKER_01: That's gonna be vile.
• 58:52
  SPEAKER_01: What a cleanup.
• 58:54
SPEAKER_02: Um, what were your guys' favorite fights?
• 58:56
SPEAKER_02: So we'll start with Anthony.
• 58:58
SPEAKER_04: Probably probably like, you know, in the beginning, where um, you know, with uh with Kong, like when he first comes across the the uh the domain of the the Scar King, you know, like he he threw down pretty well in that one.
• 59:17
SPEAKER_02: He did, he held his own, and it it pretty much wasn't until Scar King decided, you know what, I have other tools I could use to win this fight, that he ended up taking uh charge of that.
• 59:29
SPEAKER_02: But what about you, Rich?
• 59:32
SPEAKER_03: Well, I like the story of when like right before the fight with the uh the sea monster guy, uh, because just the the storytelling that's told like on the face of of uh Suku and um and Kong I think is just unbelievable.
• 59:50
SPEAKER_03: But I I think my favorite might actually be Kong versus Godzilla at the pyramids because Kong's like, come on, man, I just need you to come here.
• 59:59
SPEAKER_03: And Godzilla's gonna be like nah, bro.
• 1:00:02
SPEAKER_03: And then Kong's like, alright, I guess I'm gonna have to mess a bee up, you know, and he and he goes in, you know, and um that's why Kong's the best, you know, he's just the man.
• 1:00:12
SPEAKER_02: And then Mothra comes and it's just like, hey guys, stop, stop, stop.
• 1:00:17
SPEAKER_02: And then and Godzilla just looks at like Godzilla looks at Mothra like, hey, how are you?
• 1:00:24
  SPEAKER_02: It's like so gentle.
• 1:00:26
SPEAKER_03: In that moment, I was just like, I was just thinking like my kaiju Kong, my Iwi Gia.
• 1:00:32
SPEAKER_03: My question for the next movie is will Kong be alive, Nick's in five.
• 1:00:35
SPEAKER_03: Like that's that's kind of what I thought in that moment, you know.
• 1:00:38
  unknown: Wow.
• 1:00:39
  SPEAKER_02: Wow.
• 1:00:40
SPEAKER_03: Next movie, next movie, Kong is on the Empire State Building during the Nyx celebration parade down the Kenya Virgo.
• 1:00:49
SPEAKER_02: Is that the first time that we've this like mentioned Nyx on this podcast?
• 1:00:54
  SPEAKER_02: That's actually pretty surprising.
• 1:00:56
SPEAKER_03: I've been holding on to that for a while, wrote it down on a piece of paper.
• 1:00:59
  SPEAKER_03: Uh as evidence.
• 1:01:00
SPEAKER_02: He actually is holding up a piece of paper to the camera, guys.
• 1:01:03
SPEAKER_02: So that is uh that is a little bit.
• 1:01:04
SPEAKER_02: Wait, did you actually yeah, he did?
• 1:01:06
SPEAKER_03: Yes, I was very excited to share that.
• 1:01:08
SPEAKER_03: I was been waiting for an hour and five minutes or so to somehow insert that into the podcast.
• 1:01:13
  SPEAKER_01: Congratulations.
• 1:01:14
SPEAKER_01: You've had your moment just like the Knicks.
• 1:01:17
SPEAKER_01: Um, I liked so my favorite fight, I wouldn't say it was the final fight, but one thing that I appreciated about the final fight was just that they um took it out of what it what was that place?
• 1:01:30
SPEAKER_01: Not Middle Earth Hollow Earth.
• 1:01:32
SPEAKER_01: Um they took it out of Hollow Earth, because to be honest, like we had spent so much time in Hollow Earth that I had kind of forgotten at that point the sheer size of the kaiju or of the Titans.
• 1:01:46
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you need you need scale to like get the gravitas of the situation, so then bringing it back to Rio made a lot of sense just for like somebody like me who you know, I was like I started to just kind of accept that these are all like monkey dudes and lizard dudes fighting.
• 1:02:03
SPEAKER_01: But you know, seeing seeing them against skyscrapers, it's like, oh right, this is absurd.
• 1:02:09
SPEAKER_05: Oh, I thought they were throwing skyscrapers up there.
• 1:02:11
  SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
• 1:02:12
SPEAKER_02: But their ability to what happened, Roach?
• 1:02:15
  SPEAKER_02: I'm sorry.
• 1:02:16
SPEAKER_03: Their ability to to you said gravitas, and it just made me think that like all of their abilities to suddenly adapt to zero gravity was also fantastic.
• 1:02:26
SPEAKER_03: Like, oh, there's no gravity now, no problem.
• 1:02:30
SPEAKER_03: I will adjust my fight tactics accordingly, right?
• 1:02:35
SPEAKER_01: In that environment before, like, remember in the last movie where he like jumps up and he's kind of like in zero gravity per second, and then he has to like reach for he has to like kind of rock climb, he's like bouldering.
• 1:02:45
SPEAKER_02: But even Godzilla, like he goes into like almost like a swim like maneuver.
• 1:02:49
SPEAKER_02: Yeah, it's great while he's while he's moving around.
• 1:02:51
SPEAKER_02: I love these these two guys.
