- 0:00Happy Monday morning everybody. The day after the Daytona 500.
- 0:09Let's get going right away because there is so much to talk
- 0:13about like the Daytona 24 hour race where they announced so
- 0:19many people were there. They announced last night that
- 0:25the Daytona 500 had 150,000 people at the race sold out with
- 0:34100,000 people in the grandstands and then another
- 0:3850,000 people that paid to get in the infield, like 450,000
- 0:46people during the weekend, you know, like Friday, Saturday,
- 0:51Sunday. So we can pick everything apart
- 0:57or we can talk about the good things.
- 1:01Now, my Mama made me a shirt years ago when I was just a kid
- 1:05and I love that shirt. And it said, Kenny, you have so
- 1:09many wonderful qualities, it's easy to overlook your few
- 1:14disgusting habits. So do we zone in on the fuel
- 1:19mileage or do we recognize all the other great stuff at
- 1:25Daytona? So that is basically my
- 1:30monologue. Let's get it started.
- 1:36Let's go with the bad right away.
- 1:40Mark Martin yesterday on X said this is not a good look 400,000
- 1:48likes. So that's why I'm addressing it
- 1:52right away at the top of the show.
- 1:54So I believe when you constantly complain about something, tell
- 1:59me how you would fix it. So I'm going to address the fuel
- 2:02mileage for the Daytona 500 right away.
- 2:06I've heard it all. The Toyotas ran three wide up
- 2:10front. They blocked the whole field.
- 2:15Hey, that's competition. That's competition that's best
- 2:19whether we like it or not. Now I'm not going to make any
- 2:23excuse. I'm going to tell you what
- 2:24happened and what I would do to fix it.
- 2:28So the teams are to blame for this, not NASCAR.
- 2:34The teams said hey, run around slow so when that stage break
- 2:41comes, you come down pit Rd. and we don't have to fill the carp
- 2:45as much and the pit stop is faster.
- 2:49So that is on the teams NASCAR did not start that.
- 2:55What we are looking for is for NASCAR to fix it.
- 3:01It's not NASCAR's fault the team started it.
- 3:05So to fix this, to fix the fuel mileage would cost millions of
- 3:13dollars. Let's go with Denny Hamlin last
- 3:16night after the Daytona 500, Denny Hamlin says, I have an
- 3:21idea how to fix it. And so, so do some of us,
- 3:25others. But we want to do it next year.
- 3:28We want the Clash to be brought back to Daytona and we want to
- 3:33test. And what we want to do is we
- 3:35want to get rid of spoiler. We want to do all this.
- 3:38So we have to let off the gas. So in other words, right now at
- 3:42Daytona, we're running wide open.
- 3:45OK, I'm I'm going to have fun with it.
- 3:47Let's have fun with it. So at Daytona right now, the gas
- 3:52pedal is wide open because we have so much downforce.
- 3:56So right now at Daytona, we're going the whole race.
- 4:02What Danny wants to do is like we used to do back in the old
- 4:06days, where we'd go and we would let off in the old days because
- 4:15our cars would not handle and there'd be usually two to four
- 4:21cars by themselves gone. And the reason that would happen
- 4:25is because those guys up front could run almost wide open.
- 4:30The guys, 7th, 8th, 9th, they're like, because they're getting
- 4:36ready to spin out or they're pushing bad.
- 4:38OK, now I broke it all down for you about fuel modge.
- 4:43I told you how it started. I told you whose fault it is and
- 4:47I told you, Denny Hamlin, what he says.
- 4:49Let's fix it. Let's go with the Clash next
- 4:53year. Let's leave Bowman great.
- 4:55And let's move the Clash to Daytona next year and do a test.
- 5:00Make the Clash a test. Get rid of spoiler, make the
- 5:03cars loose, make it to where you got a lift or you load.
- 5:08If you lift, you know you'll wreck.
- 5:12So it would, it's going to be difficult.
- 5:14Now my idea, I'm going to tell you how I will fix it.
- 5:19I will fix it immediately right now, tomorrow and I do a quick
- 5:25little redneck fix. My fix is not the perfect fix.
- 5:29However, it won't cost anybody any money.
- 5:33What you do is you go to Talladega and with 25 laps to
- 5:37go, you bring everybody down Pit Rd., a non competition pit stop.
- 5:44Now you can do this the whole race too.
- 5:46Now this is a quick fix. This is a quick fix.
- 5:49This is what we got to. To fix this might cost millions
- 5:54of dollars because you have to change the car and things of
- 5:56that nature and maybe it won't cost millions of dollars.
- 6:00Maybe they just fix it and we don't realize that that's what
- 6:03we do. But I'm going to add a little
- 6:05nugget in here. I'm going to add a little Larry
- 6:07Mcnugget in here if TV doesn't talk about it.
- 6:13You just think they're three wide racing like they've always
- 6:16done. But because TV draws attention
- 6:20to it, then you know it. When Mark Martin said this is
- 6:25not a good look, The only reason he knew that they were running
- 6:29fuel miles race because T VS telling you they're looking at
- 6:32all the data. You know, sometimes all this
- 6:35data, you know, Google, some all this, sometimes all this stuff
- 6:41is it ruins it, it ruins the show.
- 6:45So to me, if I don't hear the announcers talk about it, if I
- 6:51don't see the data, it looks like 10 years ago we've been
- 6:55running three wide 11 rows deep forever.
- 7:00So my fix would simply go, OK boys, when we go to Talladega,
- 7:05pick out a pick out something and just bring the cars down Pit
- 7:10Rd. and fill them up and go look, there goes your fuel
- 7:14mileage. You don't got to do it no more
- 7:17and be a non competitive pit stop.
- 7:20And I'm going to I'm going to leave you, I'm going to end this
- 7:22subject like this. By the way, it's going to be a
- 7:24long 1 today. So what I would do for Talladega
- 7:29right away is I would make it to where you just bring them down
- 7:33Pit Rd. and bring them down at a time non competitive, OK?
- 7:43If you come down pit Rd. everybody comes down, you fill
- 7:46them up with gas and you let them leave.
- 7:49Something of that nature. Now I know you can sit here
- 7:53right now and you can go what about this and what about that?
- 7:55But what if you need tires and watch?
- 7:58I mean this in a nice way. First.
- 8:01First things first, let's get rid of the fuel mileage deal.
- 8:05All right, I told you everything just now.
- 8:09I need you to respond right here.
- 8:11OK, I dressed the elephant in the room.
- 8:16Now let's go with happy, happy joy.
- 8:19Joy Daytona 500 sold out 150,000 people, 450,000 people at the
- 8:28racetrack and a hell of a race. Now some of you are going to go,
- 8:33oh, they just run around. They didn't just run around the
- 8:36racetrack. There was times they ran around
- 8:39the racetrack. OK, There were times they ran
- 8:41around the racetrack, and they've been doing that forever.
- 8:45But once again, because they gave you the data, you know it.
- 8:48What about the days when Dale Junior won?
- 8:51He was, he was leading the Daytona 500 all by himself.
- 8:55I remember like yesterday, Dale Junior's run around racetrack.
- 9:00Well, actually Tony Stewart was leading that race if you
- 9:02remember, and he's running around all by himself and Dale
- 9:05Junior running, running down and passing and that was that.
- 9:11So we will get it fixed. But I took this is important,
- 9:17this is important. Last week I took a poll.
- 9:21I said, are you going to allow the start of the NASCAR season
- 9:24to be positive since we have a positive vibe or by Sunday
- 9:28night, are you going to complain?
- 9:31I, I took that poll last week, 75% of the people said we're
- 9:36going to stay positive and I'll be damn, I knew you couldn't do
- 9:39it. I knew it.
- 9:41See, it's human nature. We're going to be stuck with
- 9:44this the rest of our lives. Now switching subjects.
- 9:50NASCAR did a hell of a job. They brought Kid Rock in, they
- 9:55had Miranda Lambert, they had John Daly.
- 9:58They had all these superstars there and everybody got on
- 10:02social media after the race and they talked about how NASCAR is
- 10:07the most awesome thing. Everybody bragged on the Daytona
- 10:11500. It was awesome.
- 10:13It was there's all these people go, man, I've never seen
- 10:17anything like this. So I'll land like this.
- 10:20There's so much to talk about it, but we're going to do that
- 10:22on Herman Schrader here in a little bit.
- 10:25I want to leave you with this years ago.
- 10:28Do you all remember when Dom Capers was the head coach for
- 10:32the Carolina Panthers? So I was doing a I'm in the
- 10:36race. It's to Coke 600 at Charlotte
- 10:39and the Dom Capers comes to the my squirty hospitality with me.
- 10:45And at that time, Dom Capers was a big time head coach.
- 10:48You know, the Carolina Panthers were rocking and I'm giving a
- 10:53speech before the coach 600. Well, we leave that hospitality
- 10:58and Dom Capers, the head coach of the Carolina Panthers, he
- 11:01looks at me, goes, I would never allow any of my football players
- 11:06to talk to any human being before a game.
- 11:09So before the Daytona 500, some of these superstars, some of
- 11:13these actors and musical people, they got on social media and
- 11:17they said, I can't believe this. Did you see Tony Stewart in the
- 11:21truck race? He had his helmet on.
- 11:23He's getting in the car and people are still, fans are
- 11:26coming right up to him and talking.
- 11:28And I told Dom Capers, I said, Oh yeah, Dom, NASCAR is all
- 11:34about the fans, has always been about the fans.
- 11:38But over the past 10-15 years, sometimes the fans tend to do
- 11:42things like NASCAR don't care about us.
- 11:45They put too many commercials on TV.
- 11:48I'm like it just it never stops. But NASCAR and US drivers, Hell,
- 11:56there were times I was in my race car with my helmet on.
- 12:00I mean, I'm ready to go. Mic check testing, 1-2, three.
- 12:05You hear me? Yeah.
- 12:05Herman, I hear you. OK.
- 12:07And a fan would stick his head right in the car and I'd have my
- 12:10gloves on. I'd sign the autograph through
- 12:12the window net. We're at 12 minutes, everybody.
- 12:18Hell of a rice. I got so much more to say, but I
- 12:21don't want to go too long. I took the biggest topic and I
- 12:24went after it. And I really will leave you if
- 12:29you've made it this far. The greatest thing that's
- 12:33happened all week long was this. All three races ended under the
- 12:40green flag, come into the checkered flag and that's what
- 12:44you asked for. That was most important.
- 12:47Have a great Monday, everybody.
