- 0:00Hello friends! Welcome back to Wonderfully Made,
- 0:04Bible Stories for Children. I'm so glad you're
- 0:08here. Last time, we saw how Elisha began to follow
- 0:13Elijah. Elisha left his work behind and went
- 0:18with him, ready to serve the Lord. Now the time
- 0:22has come for something surprising. Elijah's journey
- 0:26is coming to an end. But God's work is not ending.
- 0:32Today, we'll see what happens when Elijah and
- 0:35Elisha walk together one last time. And how God
- 0:39shows his power in a way no one expected. Are
- 0:43you ready? Let's jump in. Elijah and Elisha traveled
- 1:02together from place to place. First to Bethel,
- 1:06then to Jericho, and finally toward the Jordan
- 1:10River. At each place, Elijah told Elisha to remain
- 1:15behind. But Elisha would not leave him. Even
- 1:20when groups of prophets came to Elisha and told
- 1:23him that the Lord was going to take Elijah away
- 1:26that day. He stayed with Elijah every step of
- 1:31the way. When they reached the river, Elijah
- 1:35took his cloak and rolled it up. He struck the
- 1:39water with it. The water parted. A path opened
- 1:44through the river, and the two of them walked
- 1:47across on dry ground. God was with them. After
- 1:52they crossed, Elijah spoke to Elisha. He asked
- 1:57what Elisha wanted before he was taken away.
- 2:01Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's
- 2:04spirit. In those days, a double portion was what
- 2:09a firstborn son would receive. It was more than
- 2:13the other sons received. He asked for this so
- 2:16that he could carry on what came next. Elisha
- 2:20was not asking to be greater than Elijah. He
- 2:24was asking to continue the work God had been
- 2:26doing through Elijah. Elijah told him that this
- 2:30would happen if Elisha saw him being taken away.
- 2:34So they kept walking together. As they walked
- 2:38and talked, something incredible happened. A
- 2:41chariot of fire and horses of fire appeared and
- 2:45separated the two of them. Elijah was taken up
- 2:48by a whirlwind into heaven. Elisha saw it. He
- 2:54cried out as Elijah was taken from him. Then
- 2:58Elijah was gone. Elisha picked up Elijah's cloak,
- 3:02which had fallen. He returned to the Jordan River.
- 3:06He struck the water, just as Elijah had done.
- 3:10And the water pattered again. Elisha crossed
- 3:14over. The prophets who were watching saw this
- 3:18and understood. This meant that the same work
- 3:22God had done through Elijah, he was now continuing
- 3:25through Elisha. God's power had not ended. God's
- 3:31work was still going on. Let's think about this
- 3:41story together. Elijah was taken away, but God's
- 3:47work continued. What does this teach us about
- 3:51God? Elijah asked for strength to continue God's
- 3:59work. What kinds of things can we ask God to
- 4:03help us do? Even when things change, what stays
- 4:10the same about God? God's servants may come and
- 4:17go. But God does not change. And his work continues,
- 4:23just as he has planned. Thanks for joining me
- 4:28today. Next time on Wonderfully Made, we'll see
- 4:32the very first miracles that happen through Elisha.
- 4:36A river will be made clean. A need will be met
- 4:40in an unexpected way. And we'll begin to see
- 4:44how God works through his servant in new ways.
- 4:48Until then, remember, you are wonderfully made.
- 4:52Bye for now.
