- 2:38Speaker 4: the show.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave, and thank you for having me, Thank
- 2:40Speaker 6: you for being a kind nasty outside it is there's
- 2:43Speaker 6: a little challenge driving up here, so but you're here.
- 2:45Speaker 4: I'm here. That's all that matters. That's all that matters.
- 2:47Speaker 4: We can go Cener in a number of different directions
- 2:50Speaker 4: this morning, but I want to start with the interims
- 2:53Speaker 4: that just wrapped up. Of course, there was the battle
- 2:56Speaker 4: for the Senate presidency that's already been decided, but just
- 2:59Speaker 4: talk about what some of some of your takeaways from
- 3:01Speaker 4: the interims.
- 3:03Speaker 6: The I think our interims, you know, we're looking at
- 3:07Speaker 6: what's going to be coming up with this session and
- 3:10Speaker 6: what opportunities that we're gonna have to be looking at,
- 3:14Speaker 6: you know, with the new executive branch that's going to
- 3:17Speaker 6: be coming in.
- 3:18Speaker 4: Uh so it uh.
- 3:21Speaker 6: I think we had a good set of interims. Learned
- 3:23Speaker 6: a lot of information about some stuff that we're going
- 3:26Speaker 6: to have to be looking at, uh, you know, as
- 3:28Speaker 6: far as you know the thing out there like with p.
- 3:31Speaker 7: E I A, with.
- 3:34Speaker 6: Some of the other regulatory stuff that we need to
- 3:38Speaker 6: be looking at for uh, you know, as far as
- 3:40Speaker 6: promoting economic development.
- 3:42Speaker 4: And that's really one of the reasons why I want
- 3:44Speaker 4: to have you here was to talk about economic development.
- 3:47Speaker 4: There was talk that there was going to be a
- 3:48Speaker 4: special session uh to kind of coincide with the interims.
- 3:52Speaker 4: That didn't That didn't happen. You care to weigh in
- 3:54Speaker 4: on that, Well, yeah, we were.
- 3:57Speaker 6: We had been working with a company that you know, Dave,
- 4:01Speaker 6: you know, I'm still under an NDA with right over.
- 4:04Speaker 6: These companies understand the cats out and you know, people
- 4:08Speaker 6: they can pretty well visualize who it may be but
- 4:11Speaker 6: about six months ago I had met with them and
- 4:15Speaker 6: had approached them, I want to make sure that everyone
- 4:17Speaker 6: stands at We approached them about this particular kind of
- 4:21Speaker 6: about bringing economic development here, and so we've been working
- 4:24Speaker 6: together for about six months and.
- 4:27Speaker 4: They came to us and said, hey, here, we've got
- 4:30Speaker 4: a project. We think we have a project here.
- 4:32Speaker 2: But to get this.
- 4:33Speaker 6: Project moving forward, there's certain pieces of legislation that will
- 4:37Speaker 6: have to be in place, and this is one of them.
- 4:40Speaker 6: It basically was going to take the twenty twenty two
- 4:45Speaker 6: legislation that we did for the micro grids, and it
- 4:47Speaker 6: was going to add an additional micro grid in one
- 4:51Speaker 6: of the regulated territories and then add three in another one,
- 4:56Speaker 6: and it was increasing the.
- 4:58Speaker 4: Size of what the microgrid would be.
- 5:02Speaker 6: It was an opportunity that was presented, and uh, I
- 5:07Speaker 6: believe that everyone would will win out this.
- 5:10Speaker 4: You know this, it's not dead. That's that's what I
- 5:13Speaker 4: wanted to jump into just one minute, Senator, to make
- 5:15Speaker 4: people make sure people realize this thing. It didn't it's
- 5:18Speaker 4: not it's not dead. And there was sort of a
- 5:21Speaker 4: procedural issue, for lack of a better term, on our part,
- 5:24Speaker 4: our meaning the state, the government whatever, so it's on it.
- 5:28Speaker 4: It didn't happen during the special session. However, this project
- 5:32Speaker 4: and this company, whatever it is, they are still interested in.
- 5:35Speaker 4: This project is not dead. The project's not dead.
- 5:38Speaker 6: But we need to we need to move at their speed.
- 5:42Speaker 6: And you know, these these type of businesses that are
- 5:45Speaker 6: looking across the country. Uh, we're we're not on our
- 5:49Speaker 6: own timeline, We're on their timeline. When they make a decision,
- 5:52Speaker 6: we need to we need to react to it. And
- 5:55Speaker 6: so I'm hoping that the legislation that it will be
- 5:59Speaker 6: picked up here really quick and we can continue whether
- 6:04Speaker 6: we can get it past and be able to move forward.
- 6:07Speaker 4: What kind of things are and I know, I know
- 6:08Speaker 4: you can't get into particulars, and I get that, but
- 6:10Speaker 4: what are some things that sometimes have to be done
- 6:13Speaker 4: And just speak broadly here, senator, what are some things
- 6:16Speaker 4: that have to be done at times to make sure
- 6:18Speaker 4: we can get these businesses here? What are you traditionally
- 6:21Speaker 4: looking at with these kinds of things.
- 6:22Speaker 2: What do they ask for?
- 6:23Speaker 4: Well, what they look for is.
- 6:27Speaker 6: What policies are in place and what regulatory part is
- 6:31Speaker 6: in place depending upon what the business is. So lots
- 6:36Speaker 6: of times we have to react to that. That's probably
- 6:39Speaker 6: the biggest thing. And when we get that information, then
- 6:43Speaker 6: we start looking at it and see what we can
- 6:45Speaker 6: do with it.
- 6:46Speaker 4: Talking again with Senator Glenn Jeffries and Dave aland showing
- 6:48Speaker 4: five any line brought to you apart by your hometown
- 6:50Speaker 4: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. The Birds and Slango
- 6:53Speaker 4: Law present the Selango Law Light the Night every night
- 6:56Speaker 4: except Christmas Night through the New Year's Night at Gomart
- 6:58Speaker 4: Ball Park. Follow the Dirty Birds on Facebook for details
- 7:01Speaker 4: and get your checks ahead of time. Please do that
- 7:03Speaker 4: at Dblightthnight dot com. What other things may be on
- 7:08Speaker 4: their righte I know you can't get into details specifically,
- 7:10Speaker 4: but what's keeping you and others that are in economic
- 7:13Speaker 4: development busy these days? What are you looking at?
- 7:16Speaker 6: There are a number of projects and let me let
- 7:19Speaker 6: me say Dave that our Department of Economic Development, their
- 7:23Speaker 6: team is the phenomenal Yeah, yeah, and they have been
- 7:27Speaker 6: diligently searching and reaching out and locating companies and talking
- 7:33Speaker 6: with companies. As a matter of fact, we've got a
- 7:35Speaker 6: company coming in next week from Tennessee that's got about
- 7:39Speaker 6: a two hundred thousand square foot manufacturing facility that has
- 7:43Speaker 6: Avery has a very good interest in West Virginia, and
- 7:46Speaker 6: they're gonna be coming up here to be able to
- 7:47Speaker 6: meet with Cabinet Secretary Grainy, and so hopefully we can
- 7:53Speaker 6: kind of surprising to be able to pull something from Tennessee.
- 7:55Speaker 4: Yeah, because usually, I mean a lot of folks are
- 7:58Speaker 4: going to Tennessee. I know it would be interesting to
- 7:59Speaker 4: have people doing the exact opposite sod of all of
- 8:02Speaker 4: us going to Gatlinburg that can come here. I know
- 8:04Speaker 4: it's not Gallinburg, but I'm just using it as an example.
- 8:07Speaker 4: So when we hear these announcements Senator about a lot
- 8:12Speaker 4: of these companies looking at West Virginia where they come
- 8:15Speaker 4: here or not actually looking at West Virginia, I get
- 8:17Speaker 4: a lot of people that'll say, well, it's because of
- 8:19Speaker 4: things that have happened on the federal level, you know,
- 8:22Speaker 4: but whether it was the things that President Biden did
- 8:24Speaker 4: or whatever, but there's a reason why they are choosing
- 8:29Speaker 4: to look at West Virginia. I mean, I'm not discounting
- 8:32Speaker 4: what's happened on the federal level, but these companies, a
- 8:35Speaker 4: lot of them are looking at West Virginia specifically over Maine,
- 8:39Speaker 4: you know, Indiana, whatever, why is that?
- 8:42Speaker 6: What it takes is one company to start it, and
- 8:47Speaker 6: and it started with New Core. New Core was the
- 8:50Speaker 6: was the project. When New Core established and decided that
- 8:55Speaker 6: they were going to put their facility in West Virginia,
- 8:58Speaker 6: it just started opened up the doors for everyone. Started
- 9:00Speaker 6: looking at our regulatory mark and our policies that we
- 9:03Speaker 6: have in place, and it's just they see, that's like
- 9:07Speaker 6: with the legislation for the time at one day, we
- 9:11Speaker 6: passed that legislation for them, the back end announced with
- 9:13Speaker 6: the and and you're looking at a project now that's
- 9:17Speaker 6: probably getting up close to maybe a billion dollars. So
- 9:21Speaker 6: that is the things that they see. They see that
- 9:23Speaker 6: West Virginia is open for business and our legislatures are
- 9:26Speaker 6: there and ready to be able to move.
- 9:28Speaker 4: Talk about New Core, what's the latest over there?
- 9:32Speaker 6: They're you know, they're still building their facility down there there.
- 9:37Speaker 6: There's some talks with them about future expansion. Can't really
- 9:41Speaker 6: elaborate on what that's going to be, but I do
- 9:44Speaker 6: see them expanding their footprint.
- 9:47Speaker 4: And I mean you and I both are Putnham County people,
- 9:50Speaker 4: and we all we we see what's going on at
- 9:53Speaker 4: Putnham County right now. That is directly, directly attributable to
- 9:56Speaker 4: New Core with people coming in and housing and there's
- 9:59Speaker 4: not enough housing. We know that townhouse is going up
- 10:02Speaker 4: everywhere right down for my house, there's a big one
- 10:04Speaker 4: going in and a lot of that, you know, goes
- 10:06Speaker 4: directly to New Core. And and I'm sure that they're
- 10:09Speaker 4: seeing the same thing in Mason County as well, which
- 10:11Speaker 4: is where there where the headquarters are, where the hub
- 10:14Speaker 4: of everything is going to be. Before we let you
- 10:17Speaker 4: go talk about the future of West Virginia, I mean
- 10:19Speaker 4: we head into a new year, it's we have a
- 10:22Speaker 4: we have a new governor coming in, we'll have at
- 10:25Speaker 4: least one new new senator in Washington. What does the
- 10:29Speaker 4: future look like for Senator Glenn Jefferies as far as
- 10:32Speaker 4: the what's your outlook for West Virginia going.
- 10:34Speaker 6: For I think our outlook for for our state is
- 10:40Speaker 6: we know that in West Virginia and across the country,
- 10:43Speaker 6: energy is probably the number one top thing of topic
- 10:47Speaker 6: of discussion UH and I think that we're going to
- 10:51Speaker 6: have to look at it to see that we can
- 10:53Speaker 6: maximize UH are our current regulated utilities make sure we
- 10:58Speaker 6: can maximize all the power that they can build provide
- 11:00Speaker 6: but also be able to work together that when these
- 11:03Speaker 6: when these certain type of companies come here and they
- 11:06Speaker 6: want to locate in a certain location, that there is
- 11:10Speaker 6: that flexibility there to for our regulated utilities versus up
- 11:13Speaker 6: with other utilities to be able to provide that load.
- 11:16Speaker 4: It is necessary.
- 11:18Speaker 6: And that's like the project that was going that's down
- 11:20Speaker 6: in the southern part, that was one of them there
- 11:23Speaker 6: that they were going to have to work together to
- 11:26Speaker 6: be able to supply that load.
- 11:28Speaker 4: And we got to get people into West Virginia too,
- 11:30Speaker 4: because it's no secret we have we're in the oldest state.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Depend on which mactric you look at, we're one of
- 11:35Speaker 4: the oldest states in the nation. We just simply can't
- 11:38Speaker 4: do it with the people that we have here. We've
- 11:40Speaker 4: got to have an influx of people.
- 11:42Speaker 6: Oh yeah, that most definitely. I mean, we've got to
- 11:44Speaker 6: be attracting, increasing our population and reaching out and doing
- 11:51Speaker 6: whatever we can to bring new people into West Virginia.
- 11:54Speaker 6: And and and I will say this day back to
- 11:56Speaker 6: the energy part. You know, we got Nick Presvoti. He
- 12:00Speaker 6: is the octing Cabinet Secretary and the Department of Energy's
- 12:03Speaker 6: Cabinet Secretary or Commerce Secretary. I'm sorry he that guy
- 12:09Speaker 6: knows what he's doing and very much appreciate he is
- 12:13Speaker 6: positioned that he's in right now, and I think you're
- 12:15Speaker 6: going to see a lot of good things that's going
- 12:17Speaker 6: to come out that area.
- 12:18Speaker 2: All right.
- 12:19Speaker 4: Always pleasure to have you on the show, Sir Senator

- 17:10Speaker 9: And just overall for what they as a school and
- 17:14Speaker 9: community have gone through, oh, just fantastic.
- 17:16Speaker 4: It's a great store. Huge. I mean, it is a
- 17:18Speaker 4: huge story. And besides that, they kick a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 4: butt on the football field too. Even even had none
- 17:23Speaker 4: of that happened, this is a this is a a
- 17:25Speaker 4: stellar team. And I don't know of any school in
- 17:28Speaker 4: our immediate area here in the Kanaw Valley that has
- 17:31Speaker 4: as rabbit of fan base what they do up on
- 17:33Speaker 4: Elk River. It's fantastic. I love I love to see it.
- 17:37Speaker 4: All right. So the last time that you and I
- 17:39Speaker 4: got together in public, I think it's when you myself
- 17:42Speaker 4: Brian Hughes storm track of thirteen. Senator Eric Nelson was there.
- 17:46Speaker 4: We were asked to judge the chili contest at fall
- 17:48Speaker 4: y'all in saying all buts that was a fun day.
- 17:50Speaker 9: That was great. That was so much fun, and the
- 17:52Speaker 9: chili was fantastic. I mean, you know, you can't go
- 17:54Speaker 9: wrong with chili. I mean, there's are some bad chilies,
- 17:57Speaker 9: but most of us.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Pretty good. I mean it was pretty good. It was
- 17:59Speaker 4: it was a good time. And food is a big
- 18:02Speaker 4: part of who you are. It's to become one of
- 18:05Speaker 4: your You're like me, You've got several personas, but it's
- 18:08Speaker 4: kind of become one of those those that you think,
- 18:10Speaker 4: Jay Silver. But do you think where's the eating today?
- 18:13Speaker 4: What's the next hot dog challenge? Yes? Yes, so you'll
- 18:16Speaker 4: still live in that down arn'ch of the hot dog challenge.
- 18:18Speaker 4: You know it was good. I mean I know it
- 18:19Speaker 4: was good. I know it's good. But but you did
- 18:22Speaker 4: I don't want to say angers, but you have some
- 18:23Speaker 4: people to disagreed with you, because that's what people do.
- 18:26Speaker 4: Everyone has nostalgiafferent places that they love.
- 18:28Speaker 9: But I mean, unless you've traveled around eaten three hundred
- 18:30Speaker 9: different hot dogs in the state of West Virginia, you
- 18:33Speaker 9: won't know. And if you want to, you did that.
- 18:35Speaker 9: I did that in two and a half year period.
- 18:37Speaker 9: Check out half Fun WV on YouTube again. It's half
- 18:40Speaker 9: Fun WV and you'll see what we're talking about. It's
- 18:44Speaker 9: every week, new video about either food that you really
- 18:46Speaker 9: love or a hot dog somewhere you know, so you know,
- 18:50Speaker 9: it's all good stuff, but.
- 18:51Speaker 4: A Volancehowing five eighty line brought to you part by
- 18:53Speaker 4: fresh Air Filters ob Day's Valley fresh Air You're trusted
- 18:55Speaker 4: filter experts for both your home or business called three
- 18:58Speaker 4: zero four four four zero one one zero four visit
- 19:01Speaker 4: fresh Air Filters dot us because everyone deserves fresh air.
- 19:04Speaker 3: Right.
- 19:05Speaker 4: So before we get to the moose, which is why
- 19:06Speaker 4: you're here today, I do want to spend a little
- 19:08Speaker 4: bit of time talking about the Selango law Light the
- 19:10Speaker 4: night Yeah, go mart Ballpark. Yes, it's just been off
- 19:14Speaker 4: the hook.
- 19:14Speaker 9: Yes, and thanks again to our partners Ben Selango and Gomart.
- 19:18Speaker 9: I mean, just terrific partners to have. We've got a
- 19:22Speaker 9: lot of sponsorships with people that have come out and
- 19:24Speaker 9: it really has helped us a lot.
- 19:26Speaker 4: We had purchased another half.
- 19:28Speaker 9: Million lights, so we have two point five million lights
- 19:31Speaker 9: for your enjoyment. And we've also had a couple of
- 19:34Speaker 9: new rides as well. So we have our round up
- 19:37Speaker 9: ride they call it, but it's kind of like a Gavtron,
- 19:40Speaker 9: so it's it's pretty cool.
- 19:42Speaker 4: And we have a little carousel for the kids.
- 19:43Speaker 9: So I mean there's a lot going on with of course,
- 19:45Speaker 9: with the Ferris wheel as well, So we got a
- 19:47Speaker 9: lot a lot of that good things. Got a real
- 19:48Speaker 9: ice rink, you know, it produces real lace Dave good stuff.
- 19:52Speaker 9: So you know, after working put a little cocktail on
- 19:54Speaker 9: it and we have you know, Mie up.
- 19:57Speaker 4: We don't recommend that, by the way, we don't recomp Yeah.
- 20:00Speaker 4: There he's speaking metaphorically, Okay, metaphorically, Yes, definitely. And one
- 20:04Speaker 4: of the things I like about it, and then we'll
- 20:05Speaker 4: move on, is the fact that you've done so many
- 20:07Speaker 4: special nights there Sinceury Friendly Nightlia. You've done a great
- 20:12Speaker 4: job in bringing some of the older folks as Rush
- 20:15Speaker 4: used to call them, these seasoned citizens. Yes, we're down
- 20:17Speaker 4: for trips and towards the of the park.
- 20:20Speaker 9: Yes, we have a couple of mobility nights we call it,
- 20:22Speaker 9: and we have golf carts and we'll drive them around
- 20:24Speaker 9: from point A to point B to the train station.
- 20:26Speaker 9: You know, we've learned a lot from last year about
- 20:29Speaker 9: what people needs are, so we're trying to accommodate as
- 20:33Speaker 9: much as possible. And we always have the golf carts there.
- 20:35Speaker 9: So I mean, if for some reason, you know, someone
- 20:37Speaker 9: does show up and needs an extra you know hand
- 20:40Speaker 9: getting done around it's a very big space to walk
- 20:43Speaker 9: around and a very huge display of lights.
- 20:45Speaker 4: And things and lots to see.
- 20:47Speaker 9: So we're more than happy to to you know, if
- 20:49Speaker 9: somebody needs a ride, go to one of the guest
- 20:51Speaker 9: services and we'll try to get your ride. Tw we
- 20:53Speaker 9: need to go and at least one wedding proposal that
- 20:55Speaker 9: we know of, right, even more than the only just
- 20:59Speaker 9: the one that I that I've seen. I mean, it
- 21:01Speaker 9: could happen daily. We just haven't seen or looked at
- 21:04Speaker 9: any posts at all. But if you do get a proposal,
- 21:07Speaker 9: please don't forget to send the hashtag to us so
- 21:10Speaker 9: we know, so definitely we wan't to know if you're
- 21:13Speaker 9: getting married there. Yeah, we'll find us at Charles some
- 21:15Speaker 9: dirty birds, yes, all.
- 21:16Speaker 4: Right, all right, So now the reason I have you
- 21:18Speaker 4: here today is you've gotten yourself into the Moose business,
- 21:21Speaker 4: or at least the Moose Lodge. Tell us about the
- 21:23Speaker 4: Moose organization.
- 21:24Speaker 9: Yes, so the Moose organization if anyone doesn't know, it's
- 21:26Speaker 9: a Moose fraternity. It's a family fraternity and pretty much
- 21:30Speaker 9: our mission, our national mission is to take care of
- 21:34Speaker 9: the children to Moose Heart and take care of the
- 21:36Speaker 9: seniors at moose Haven.
- 21:37Speaker 4: So what those things are? I am yeah. So bas
- 21:40Speaker 4: in other words, shut up, Daves that right. What it
- 21:43Speaker 4: doesn't matter Chat. All you like is it's your show,
- 21:46Speaker 4: go ahead for moose Heart.
- 21:48Speaker 9: It is a one thousand acre facility that's basically down
- 21:53Speaker 9: forty miles south of Chicago, and we have about thirty
- 21:57Speaker 9: resident type houses where if lives in them and they
- 22:01Speaker 9: can take care of what the six to twelve kids
- 22:03Speaker 9: per house. So let's say you and your wife get
- 22:07Speaker 9: into a car accident and you know, one of them dies,
- 22:09Speaker 9: you know, unfortunately, and you.
- 22:11Speaker 4: Are unable to take care of your kids.
- 22:13Speaker 9: Moose Heart will in fact come and help you with
- 22:16Speaker 9: your kids, house them and basically a safe and carrying,
- 22:21Speaker 9: academic type community to make sure that these kids are
- 22:25Speaker 9: getting well fed, getting into the education that they deserve,
- 22:27Speaker 9: and still living in a family type environment.
- 22:29Speaker 4: We're not orphaning kids. We're basically taking care of the children.
- 22:33Speaker 4: And you know that need help.
- 22:35Speaker 9: You know, if you get back on your feet, you know,
- 22:37Speaker 9: and then you know, little Johnny can come back to you,
- 22:39Speaker 9: so at any rate, and even if you know, sometimes
- 22:43Speaker 9: grandparents are taking care of.
- 22:44Speaker 4: Kids these days, great grandparents in some cases.
- 22:47Speaker 9: Well see so sometimes it's too hard on those on
- 22:49Speaker 9: those parents, so they can reach out to Moose Heart
- 22:53Speaker 9: to the Moose, and we will help you by, you know,
- 22:56Speaker 9: taking care of the little ones that you can't really
- 22:58Speaker 9: take care of, you know.
- 22:59Speaker 4: So we're there to.
- 23:00Speaker 9: Provide a service for people that really have a need
- 23:02Speaker 9: for that. So we take care of kids from different
- 23:06Speaker 9: countries as well, so as well as here in the
- 23:09Speaker 9: United States. So again, West Virginia does have their own
- 23:13Speaker 9: resident house there, so we're very proud of that. We
- 23:16Speaker 9: just had it remodeled and stuff for the kids, so
- 23:18Speaker 9: it's great. Another place do we take care of this
- 23:21Speaker 9: is for our seniors. So if you're a member like
- 23:24Speaker 9: I am, and you are, if you're a member for
- 23:27Speaker 9: up to at least fifteen years consecutive, you can go
- 23:30Speaker 9: to a place called Moose Haven. So if you don't
- 23:33Speaker 9: have a retirement plan, see I know you work in
- 23:35Speaker 9: radio like I work in baseball, there's no real retirement
- 23:38Speaker 9: for us, so we just go until we just don't
- 23:41Speaker 9: go anymore. Right, So, if you're a remember for fifteen
- 23:45Speaker 9: years and you're in the retirement age, I guess you
- 23:47Speaker 9: could say in collecting your Social Security you can go
- 23:50Speaker 9: to a place called Moose Haven and it is a
- 23:52Speaker 9: place in Orange Park, Florida, which is south of Jacksonville, Florida.
- 23:56Speaker 9: And basically they'll take care of all your medical needs, housing, food, lodging, everything,
- 24:01Speaker 9: and they'll take care of you until you're passing.
- 24:04Speaker 4: So it's a great thing for our seniors. How many
- 24:08Speaker 4: people can go to that, I mean with my saying it, I.
- 24:10Speaker 9: Think there we're somewhere at about probably three hundred over
- 24:14Speaker 9: three hundred residents. Yeah, yeah, so it's a pretty big deal.
- 24:17Speaker 9: And they're always creating new spaces out there, so it's
- 24:20Speaker 9: a it is an ever growing place. It sits right
- 24:24Speaker 9: there on the river, right out there outside of Jacksonville, Florida,
- 24:27Speaker 9: and there's like a big deck, you know, dock you
- 24:30Speaker 9: can go out on and and go fishing and things.
- 24:33Speaker 4: But it's just a really beautiful little place. It's, you know,
- 24:36Speaker 4: just a cool community.
- 24:37Speaker 9: If you get bored, you want to work at the
- 24:39Speaker 9: little post office or work at the bowling alley, you
- 24:41Speaker 9: can do that as well. They have all these small
- 24:43Speaker 9: things and this huge community for the folks down there.
- 24:46Speaker 9: And also the coolest thing about being Putnam County, the
- 24:50Speaker 9: Putnam County Lodge is we can give back to the community.
- 24:53Speaker 9: So the bigger we grow, the more financially set we are,
- 24:58Speaker 9: we can give money back into the community. So for like,
- 25:01Speaker 9: let's say, if there's a church group that needs an
- 25:03Speaker 9: extra hand, if there's a little Cindy and her cheerleading
- 25:08Speaker 9: crowd once, you know, once a little extra cast, Johnny
- 25:11Speaker 9: and his you know little league team needs some extra cast.
- 25:15Speaker 4: For some uniforms. You know, you can, you know, send
- 25:17Speaker 4: us a letter. We might be able to help you
- 25:18Speaker 4: out on that.
- 25:18Speaker 9: So we're here to help the community as well in
- 25:20Speaker 9: the Tays Valley, Scott Depot, Hurricane area and beyond.
- 25:25Speaker 4: And this is a whole new This is the reason
- 25:26Speaker 4: I want to have you here too. And I appreciate
- 25:28Speaker 4: you doing a great job of explaining what MOOSE is
- 25:31Speaker 4: because you hear that terms and sometimes in various service organizations.
- 25:35Speaker 4: I was a member of a former past president of
- 25:38Speaker 4: two different rotary chapters, and I was very heavily involved
- 25:40Speaker 4: in the j c's when I was younger, because it
- 25:42Speaker 4: stands for Junior and Junior Chamber. I'm Senior Chamber now.
- 25:46Speaker 4: But sometimes we don't do a good job of explaining
- 25:49Speaker 4: what they hear the terms but they don't know exactly
- 25:52Speaker 4: what it is that they do. Now there is a
- 25:54Speaker 4: brand new lodge in Putnam County. That's what you're really
- 25:57Speaker 4: here to talk about. And you referenced it earlier. How
- 25:59Speaker 4: did this whole thing come about?
- 26:01Speaker 9: Well, I was asked about two years ago if we
- 26:04Speaker 9: had a potential area for growth, and I knew that
- 26:07Speaker 9: the Putnam County area, there's a lot of growth down there.
- 26:10Speaker 4: There's a lot of people that are living in that area.
- 26:13Speaker 9: I know that we had Charleston unfortunately just closed recently
- 26:16Speaker 9: their their lodge, and Nitro had closed, but a lot
- 26:19Speaker 9: of people from the Putnam County were members of the
- 26:22Speaker 9: Nitro Lodge and since they folded, oh Man probably been
- 26:27Speaker 9: like six seven years ago, a lot of those members
- 26:30Speaker 9: are don't have a home to go to, so.
- 26:32Speaker 4: They're members and they pay dues.
- 26:34Speaker 9: They just didn't really have a place to Yeah, yeah,
- 26:36Speaker 9: because they care about the kids and the and the seniors,
- 26:39Speaker 9: so they just keep paying their dues and so yeah,
- 26:42Speaker 9: we decided let's open a new place, and so we
- 26:45Speaker 9: decided right there at the Putnam Village, which is the.
- 26:49Speaker 4: Right there by.
- 26:51Speaker 9: I guess best Buy is still in the parking lot
- 26:53Speaker 9: out there. But we're the old Cinema three right next
- 26:56Speaker 9: to Kelly's Hotspot and Odyssey.
- 26:58Speaker 4: So for let me, let me to break this down
- 27:00Speaker 4: West Virginia. We like landmarks and you did a good job,
- 27:03Speaker 4: that's right. So people kind of get, and I've lived
- 27:05Speaker 4: in Putnam now for ten years, people kind of get.
- 27:07Speaker 4: The two little shopping areas mixed up. Liberty Square is
- 27:10Speaker 4: the one just off the Tays Valley Accident. That's the Target.
- 27:13Speaker 4: That's where Target, Applebee's all the all those sort of
- 27:15Speaker 4: things are. But if you keep going to the back area, yes,
- 27:18Speaker 4: past Big Sandy, past Moses, that's where you see the
- 27:22Speaker 4: second mall, and that's where there's a big lots back there.
- 27:25Speaker 4: One of my favorite places to eat, Tie Valley Kitchen.
- 27:27Speaker 4: Oh yes, is back there.
- 27:29Speaker 3: I like that.
- 27:29Speaker 4: Yeah, great, great place for free plug for them. But
- 27:34Speaker 4: that's where it is. It's it's back in that second. Yes, yes, second.
- 27:38Speaker 9: I guess everyone keeps remembering as the old Cinema three
- 27:41Speaker 9: or Skienies. I think it was a place or Sneakers
- 27:44Speaker 9: something like that, that it was.
- 27:45Speaker 4: A little bit before my time.
- 27:47Speaker 9: Yeah, yeah, there's yeah, some places I've heard, but the
- 27:49Speaker 9: people go to so but yes, we have a grand opening.
- 27:52Speaker 9: So we have a soft opening today at five and Thursday.
- 27:55Speaker 9: We're just to see how things work out and who
- 27:57Speaker 9: can go. Members only, Okay, you gotta be remember the
- 28:00Speaker 9: Moose Lodge, so you can come by and become a
- 28:02Speaker 9: Moose member. It is seventy dollars for the first year
- 28:06Speaker 9: and the fifty dollars every year after that.
- 28:08Speaker 4: But we are open to the public day. We're going
- 28:11Speaker 4: to be open to the public Saturday.
- 28:12Speaker 9: That's right, This coming Saturday, we'll be open to the public,
- 28:14Speaker 9: so if you want to join, you can come by
- 28:17Speaker 9: first and just check it out. So this Friday is
- 28:19Speaker 9: the actual grand opening for members only. We used to
- 28:21Speaker 9: open it five o'clock on Friday and eight o'clock. We
- 28:25Speaker 9: have a band called Black Sheep Band, so the Black
- 28:28Speaker 9: Sheep will be there performing at eight o'clock for members only,
- 28:31Speaker 9: but on Saturday.
- 28:32Speaker 4: It'll be open to the public.
- 28:33Speaker 9: We are open at noon that day, but the music
- 28:36Speaker 9: starts at eight o'clock. We have Hard Rain band performing,
- 28:39Speaker 9: so Hard Rain a great band, very big following. So
- 28:43Speaker 9: at it's open to the public this Saturday, so we're
- 28:46Speaker 9: very excited for people to come check it out.
- 28:47Speaker 4: And again, I know I've just seen that. I've not
- 28:50Speaker 4: visited yet, but i have seen the pictures online. You
- 28:53Speaker 4: guys took that building or that area and that shopping
- 28:57Speaker 4: plaza there and have just done what looks like a
- 28:59Speaker 4: great job with it.
- 29:00Speaker 9: Yes, the volunteers have come out hard. Our members have
- 29:04Speaker 9: have done a tremendous amount of work. We've got people
- 29:07Speaker 9: that are just you know the union workers, people that
- 29:09Speaker 9: are electricians. I mean they're certified. You know, they know
- 29:12Speaker 9: exactly what they're doing, and we've had people just come
- 29:14Speaker 9: in and just do a great thing.
- 29:16Speaker 4: I'm sortain.
- 29:16Speaker 9: I'm certified in painting cleaning, and I'm good with with
- 29:21Speaker 9: a with a chainsaw. No, I'm just kidding, but I'm
- 29:24Speaker 9: good with a saw on anything you need cut, I can.
- 29:26Speaker 9: I'll be your cut guy. So, I mean it's everyone's
- 29:29Speaker 9: that has their niche of helping out to the lodge
- 29:33Speaker 9: that that needs to be done. I have a lot
- 29:34Speaker 9: of Christmas lights to there, so I'm pretty ex Yeah,
- 29:36Speaker 9: you've hung I hung a few one or two over
- 29:38Speaker 9: at the ballpark.
- 29:39Speaker 4: So if people are listening right now, what is the
- 29:41Speaker 4: I know you talked about with the with the things
- 29:43Speaker 4: you do for for seniors and kids just to join
- 29:47Speaker 4: the lodge if they want the social aspect of it,
- 29:49Speaker 4: and there's a lot of people that do that, and
- 29:50Speaker 4: if we help people along the way, so be it.
- 29:52Speaker 4: But they just want the social aspect of it. What
- 29:55Speaker 4: what will they if they were if I remember, what
- 29:56Speaker 4: will they see when they can got food there? Yeah,
- 29:58Speaker 4: you get drink so yeah.
- 29:59Speaker 9: So basically we have a small we have a bar atmosphere.
- 30:02Speaker 9: Of course, we have tons of games that are on.
- 30:04Speaker 9: Whenever there's a big game from WVU or Marshall or
- 30:07Speaker 9: something like that, we'll always have a game on, so
- 30:10Speaker 9: you know, it's always a good time. We have a
- 30:12Speaker 9: couple of dartboards set up in there, so we'll have
- 30:14Speaker 9: some dart leagues that are great. A lot of people
- 30:16Speaker 9: like to play darts a well. I didn't realize how
- 30:18Speaker 9: big the dart leagues are.
- 30:19Speaker 4: It's huge.
- 30:19Speaker 9: It's very big, so we're very happy to have some
- 30:22Speaker 9: dart boards out there as well. We have a very
- 30:24Speaker 9: big stage, so we'll have bands pretty frequently as well
- 30:28Speaker 9: as DJ on certain nights as well. We have two
- 30:32Speaker 9: sides of the building because I guess the theater was
- 30:34Speaker 9: broken down like in two areas, so we'll have a
- 30:36Speaker 9: nice area where there's band and if you really just
- 30:38Speaker 9: want to hear the music but not be you know,
- 30:42Speaker 9: overly excited with all the loud noises. We have the
- 30:44Speaker 9: other side of the bar as well, which is fairly quiet.
- 30:48Speaker 4: So I mean it's kind for people like me, that's right,
- 30:50Speaker 4: that's for whole people that settle out there and enjoy
- 30:53Speaker 4: a drink and and you know, not be bothered exactly exactly.
- 30:57Speaker 9: So we do have some limited food right now, but
- 30:59Speaker 9: eventually will have a full kitchen running with you know,
- 31:02Speaker 9: burgers and dogs and of course not dogs.
- 31:03Speaker 4: Of course, I gotta I got a text here before
- 31:06Speaker 4: you let you go. It says, can you can? I ask?
- 31:09Speaker 4: What's me? Why the Charleston Moose closed. I was a
- 31:12Speaker 4: member there for several years and I loved that place.
- 31:14Speaker 9: Well, I think it might have been the location. I mean,
- 31:16Speaker 9: it's you know, you know, as real estate and property
- 31:18Speaker 9: and leases go up, it's it's hard to find enough
- 31:21Speaker 9: people to support a lodge, and you just location.
- 31:24Speaker 4: Location.
- 31:25Speaker 9: Location is sometimes the best of things and sometimes the
- 31:29Speaker 9: worst of things. So it may have been just a location.
- 31:31Speaker 9: It was actually way past Capitol High School. It was
- 31:34Speaker 9: out there by the Capital flea market, you know, So
- 31:37Speaker 9: it was a little bit of a drive to get
- 31:38Speaker 9: out there. So I don't really know, you know, it
- 31:41Speaker 9: just financially wasn't the best fit.
- 31:44Speaker 4: And here is a text the exact question I asked
- 31:47Speaker 4: you last week.
- 31:47Speaker 3: What was that.
- 31:48Speaker 4: Is smoking allowed in there?
- 31:50Speaker 10: No?
- 31:51Speaker 4: Okay, because that's a that's a deal breaker for me
- 31:53Speaker 4: because I'm my sensitive allergies cannot handle it.
- 31:56Speaker 9: So you can't, you can't vape, you can't smoke inside
- 31:59Speaker 9: the building. The reason is that it's a Moose law.
- 32:01Speaker 4: Period.
- 32:02Speaker 9: Doesn't matter what county you think it's good to smoke in,
- 32:05Speaker 9: but for all Moose lodges across the country it is
- 32:09Speaker 9: a smoke free zone. Because again we're a family fraternity,
- 32:12Speaker 9: so there are times where kids are allowed inside the
- 32:15Speaker 9: building certain activities of course, you know, because we do
- 32:18Speaker 9: have activities droughout the daytime on the weekends for kids
- 32:21Speaker 9: that they want to come out and do some stuff
- 32:23Speaker 9: like for Christmas we'll have the gift Gift Exchange and
- 32:26Speaker 9: things like that, so you know, there's a lot of
- 32:27Speaker 9: different things that the kids are welcome out to, So
- 32:30Speaker 9: we want to make sure we provide a safe environment
- 32:32Speaker 9: for all these families that want to come out, and
- 32:34Speaker 9: even if you just want to come out with your
- 32:35Speaker 9: partner or your friends out for a good time on
- 32:37Speaker 9: a weekend, we want to make sure it's a safe,
- 32:39Speaker 9: clean environment as well.
- 32:40Speaker 4: So and now the public is invited to which night again, Saturday,
- 32:44Speaker 4: Saturday Night's opening. Anybody that wants to count anybody wants
- 32:47Speaker 4: to come in.
- 32:47Speaker 9: It's basically just a way of saying, if you like tonight,
- 32:50Speaker 9: you're probably gonna like every night you.
- 32:51Speaker 4: Come out here. So we want you to become members.
- 32:54Speaker 4: Really Okay, so people are listening right now, and obviously
- 32:57Speaker 4: there's some interest in it based on the text I
- 32:58Speaker 4: have here. What do they need to do if they
- 33:00Speaker 4: want to become a member or just to learn more
- 33:01Speaker 4: information about I know you've got a Facebook page, but
- 33:03Speaker 4: what's the best way to learn more?
- 33:04Speaker 9: It's basically exactly you said the facebook page. Go to
- 33:08Speaker 9: Putnam County Moose two seven to nine and you can
- 33:11Speaker 9: find all the information.
- 33:12Speaker 4: It's all that.
- 33:13Speaker 9: It's really really up to date a lot with all
- 33:15Speaker 9: the information we have of things going on at that lodge.
- 33:18Speaker 9: If you want to go check out just the moose
- 33:19Speaker 9: and the mission of the Moose, you can go to
- 33:22Speaker 9: moose i intl dot org, Moose International dot org. Again,
- 33:26Speaker 9: this moose i intl dot org and that's where you
- 33:28Speaker 9: can find more information about the Moose. But uh yeah,
- 33:31Speaker 9: you can even go online and become a member that way,
- 33:33Speaker 9: or you can just come right to the door and
- 33:34Speaker 9: see I would like to be a member, and uh
- 33:36Speaker 9: wolves will sponsor you and uh again, it's seventy dollars
- 33:39Speaker 9: for the first year, twenty excuse me, in fifty for
- 33:42Speaker 9: their each following year.
- 33:43Speaker 4: And you can come out with hang out with me
- 33:45Speaker 4: and Jay. That's right, because I joined last week.
- 33:47Speaker 11: I know you did.
- 33:47Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm excited. I can't wait to see you out.

- 37:45Speaker 4: Selango is here. Let me tell you a little you know,
- 37:47Speaker 4: this time next month or month after, we're going to
- 37:49Speaker 4: actually be on television when we're doing this show and
- 37:52Speaker 4: and other shows that emanate from this building. Twenty seconds
- 37:55Speaker 4: before we go on in here this morning, Selango, who
- 37:58Speaker 4: sets across the table for me, says, gosh, I said,
- 38:03Speaker 4: that's not exactly what he said, And he runs to
- 38:06Speaker 4: the corner where we have a garbage can here, and
- 38:08Speaker 4: I think, oh my god, he's gonna throw up. That's
- 38:10Speaker 4: what's gonna happen here. But what is it that the
- 38:14Speaker 4: got your attention about? This garbage can?
- 38:16Speaker 15: So there's a garbage can in the corner and it
- 38:18Speaker 15: has one of my law firm's old magnets. I mean,
- 38:22Speaker 15: this is probably we used to put the magnet on
- 38:25Speaker 15: the front of the phone book, and that's probably from
- 38:28Speaker 15: two thousand and seven or two thousand and eight.
- 38:30Speaker 4: Well, the trash probably hasn't been taken out, but I
- 38:33Speaker 4: haven't seen that in years, so I just took it
- 38:35Speaker 4: just literally. It was one of those moments when he
- 38:37Speaker 4: just said gosh, golly, and he ran across the and
- 38:42Speaker 4: I said, what are you, what are you doing? I
- 38:43Speaker 4: have not seen one of those going to the garbage.
- 38:45Speaker 15: I mean, honestly, it's it's been probably fifteen, almost twenty
- 38:48Speaker 15: years since I've seen one of those. But anyway, it's
- 38:50Speaker 15: funny though. Now I do get pictures of them from
- 38:53Speaker 15: time to time. Apparently there's an old like some business
- 38:56Speaker 15: that uses my old magnet. They don't have lock on
- 39:00Speaker 15: the stalls of their bathroom. So if the magnets on
- 39:03Speaker 15: the outside, it's in use. If the magnets on the inside,
- 39:06Speaker 15: it's not in use. Ben says, go, Ben says stop.
- 39:10Speaker 4: Yeah. So anyway, I'm glad they're putting the old magnets too. Well,
- 39:13Speaker 4: you know, it's whatever you know, I mean, And there's
- 39:15Speaker 4: so many attorney jokes I could make about bathroom stalls
- 39:18Speaker 4: that I'm not gonna do. You know what, we should
- 39:20Speaker 4: probably just do a whole episode on you. Yeah, well
- 39:22Speaker 4: that'll be one for the podcast that won't but make
- 39:25Speaker 4: it to the AIRCC will crown up on that sort
- 39:26Speaker 4: of thing. All right, So let's get serious here just
- 39:28Speaker 4: for a moment. Let's talk about the bid or now
- 39:32Speaker 4: I guess, the rebid for the Judicial Annex.
- 39:35Speaker 15: You know, do you remember this was probably two months ago.
- 39:38Speaker 15: I was on the show and we were talking about
- 39:40Speaker 15: the bid process and how complex that that whole Judicial
- 39:45Speaker 15: Annex remodel is, and I said, you know, if all
- 39:48Speaker 15: the projects of the county has going on, that's the
- 39:50Speaker 15: one that keeps me up at night because you're there's
- 39:54Speaker 15: so many moving parts. You're dealing with a confined space.
- 39:59Speaker 15: We can't we can't go vertical. I can't add floors
- 40:02Speaker 15: to the Judicial Annex. It's difficult to go horizonticals. We're
- 40:07Speaker 15: blocked in by streets and we got Virginia gosh Horn
- 40:09Speaker 15: Court courier, so it's not like I can go outward.
- 40:13Speaker 15: And so we we brought in, you know, some phenomenal
- 40:16Speaker 15: architects who've done this all over the country to try
- 40:20Speaker 15: to come up with a simple, fairly inexpensive solution to
- 40:24Speaker 15: a very complex problem. And unfortunately it's just costing too much.
- 40:28Speaker 15: So you know, kind of if you rewind and you know,
- 40:31Speaker 15: how did we get here. The legislature passed a law
- 40:34Speaker 15: that added an additional circuit judge and three additional magistrates.
- 40:38Speaker 4: So this was not something that we want to make
- 40:40Speaker 4: sure people understand. This was not something that Kanawa County No. Did.
- 40:43Speaker 15: The legislature is who said you got to add these people.
- 40:46Speaker 15: The lature said, here's what you need to add. Good
- 40:49Speaker 15: luck paying for it. That's essentially what they're said, Hey,
- 40:51Speaker 15: that's you know, that's our responsibility. So we're we came
- 40:55Speaker 15: up with a plan, and initially the budget was going
- 40:57Speaker 15: to be between ten and twelve million dollars.
- 40:59Speaker 4: I knew that it was going to be expensive.
- 41:00Speaker 15: The commission that was going to be expensive, and you know,
- 41:03Speaker 15: Commission President Lance Wheeler's been working very closely with Chief
- 41:06Speaker 15: Judge Mary Claire Acres and they've you know, they've done
- 41:09Speaker 15: a great job. And of course a Sheriff elect, Joey Crawford,
- 41:12Speaker 15: everyone has been working together. So initially ten to twelve
- 41:16Speaker 15: million dollars budget. Then it was revised. We went up
- 41:18Speaker 15: about ten percent, little over ten percent, and then it
- 41:21Speaker 15: because we thought to get everything we wanted, it's going
- 41:23Speaker 15: to be about thirteen point five million.
- 41:26Speaker 4: Right.
- 41:27Speaker 15: Well, then you've got in addition to that, you've got
- 41:30Speaker 15: expensive lawyer fees, you've got bond fees, you've got all
- 41:34Speaker 15: this other stuff, which added another one point too. So
- 41:38Speaker 15: now we're sitting at, you know, an additional one point two.
- 41:40Speaker 15: Then the bids comes in at three million dollars over
- 41:42Speaker 15: what we projected sixteen point two million. You had the
- 41:45Speaker 15: one point two out of pocket, and now we're looking
- 41:47Speaker 15: at seventeen point four if you had come in. You know,
- 41:51Speaker 15: it doesn't matter if it's with counting money or my
- 41:55Speaker 15: law firm money or any of my businesses. If something
- 41:58Speaker 15: comes in thirty or forty percent over budget, it you
- 42:00Speaker 15: can't sign that deal. I mean, you can only sign
- 42:03Speaker 15: a deal that you can pay for sure, right with
- 42:05Speaker 15: tax payer money. Tax payer money. You know, it's fiscally
- 42:08Speaker 15: irresponsible to sign off on something you can't pay for.
- 42:12Speaker 15: Or maybe we'll get some federal money, or maybe we'll
- 42:15Speaker 15: be able to lower the cost.
- 42:16Speaker 4: And so what we did. We really tried.
- 42:19Speaker 15: We worked hard with both the architect and the winning
- 42:23Speaker 15: bidder to try to and by the way, we're handcuffed
- 42:26Speaker 15: too on how we can negotiate. If this was at
- 42:29Speaker 15: my firm, the negotiation will look at a lot different,
- 42:32Speaker 15: I promise you. But you know, we are handcuffed with
- 42:35Speaker 15: what we can do. Before the contract is signed. You
- 42:38Speaker 15: can't change the scope for instance, of the of the
- 42:42Speaker 15: of the contract. You can't change the scope of the project.
- 42:44Speaker 15: So we have to try to reduce the cost within
- 42:50Speaker 15: the scope that we have. But also after you sign
- 42:52Speaker 15: the contract, you can actually then reduce the scope, which
- 42:55Speaker 15: is crazy to me. We should have a little more
- 42:58Speaker 15: flexibility in how we're able to legally negotiate these things
- 43:02Speaker 15: to try to save tax payers money. Can't do that.
- 43:04Speaker 15: So we were able to within keeping the same scope.
- 43:08Speaker 15: I think we could have gotten it down about a
- 43:09Speaker 15: million bucks, but we're still three million over and so
- 43:14Speaker 15: you know, we had a a very pointed zoom and
- 43:20Speaker 15: we just couldn't get there. We just couldn't reach an
- 43:23Speaker 15: agreement on where we go forward. And you know it
- 43:27Speaker 15: would be it would be terrible for the County Commission
- 43:30Speaker 15: to sign off on a contract campaign where so we didn't,
- 43:32Speaker 15: we're not going to and we're going to rebid it.
- 43:34Speaker 15: So basically what you've got, you've got the fifth floor,
- 43:37Speaker 15: which is where the circuit judge, the new circuit judge
- 43:39Speaker 15: is going to be. We're and that's that's kind of easy.
- 43:42Speaker 15: That part of the fifth floor just it's basically some
- 43:45Speaker 15: walls and you know, remot doing a courtroom. And I
- 43:48Speaker 15: don't think that one is as complex as the first floor.
- 43:53Speaker 15: The first floor, which is where the new magistrates. You've
- 43:55Speaker 15: got to have matresses, you've got to have space for assistance,
- 43:57Speaker 15: you've got to have you know, a lot of extra stuff,
- 44:00Speaker 15: and that one is very, very complex. So we're going
- 44:03Speaker 15: to bid it in separate projects. We're going to have
- 44:05Speaker 15: the fifth floor, which we already have the design floor
- 44:08Speaker 15: that's ready to go, but we got to do a
- 44:10Speaker 15: new bid legally, so we're going to put that out asap.
- 44:14Speaker 15: And while we're working on that project, we are going
- 44:17Speaker 15: to completely redesign the first floor and bring it within budget.
- 44:23Speaker 15: That's going to take a couple months, so the you know,
- 44:27Speaker 15: kind of break it all down. I don't think the
- 44:29Speaker 15: fifth floor part, the circuit judge part, is going to
- 44:32Speaker 15: be way off schedule. The first floor part I think
- 44:36Speaker 15: is going to be delayed by a number of months,
- 44:39Speaker 15: not years, but a number of months. Uh, so that
- 44:42Speaker 15: we can do it within our budget and have a
- 44:44Speaker 15: design that we can pay for.

- 47:21Speaker 4: a court that wasn't needed, put them in a vacant
- 47:23Speaker 4: building downtown. This is government waste. Well, you know that's
- 47:27Speaker 4: that was not within the Countycommission's purview. We did not
- 47:32Speaker 4: make that decision.
- 47:33Speaker 15: That was a legislative decision, and I'm not necessarily agreeable
- 47:37Speaker 15: that it wasn't needed. I mean, we've got, you know,
- 47:40Speaker 15: the judicial docket over there as crazy, particularly with abuse
- 47:43Speaker 15: and neglect cases on the rise. I would imagine if
- 47:45Speaker 15: you went over there and surveyed the circuit judges, at
- 47:48Speaker 15: a minimum, you would see that sixty to seventy maybe
- 47:51Speaker 15: higher percent of their docket is abuse in neglects, which
- 47:54Speaker 15: is mostly drug related. I suspect if you went down
- 47:57Speaker 15: to Master Court you would see that a lot of
- 47:59Speaker 15: their case is are drug related. So I'm not willing
- 48:03Speaker 15: to take that leap and say it wasn't needed. My
- 48:07Speaker 15: My responsibility is to figure out a way to pay
- 48:10Speaker 15: for it and to do what the legislature told me
- 48:12Speaker 15: to do, and that's that's exactly what we're trying to do.
- 48:14Speaker 4: So if the County Commission were to say we're not
- 48:16Speaker 4: doing this, you're going to run a file of what
- 48:18Speaker 4: the legislatures. I suspect that would create all kinds of issues.
- 48:20Speaker 4: So we're not going to do that.
- 48:21Speaker 15: We're just going to do it in a fiscally responsible way.
- 48:23Speaker 15: But hey, listen, we're I'm a taxpayer. You think I
- 48:26Speaker 15: want to waste my money too? I don't, So I
- 48:29Speaker 15: get you, and I'm trying to, you know, we just
- 48:31Speaker 15: try to figure out how to stay within our budget.
- 48:34Speaker 4: So what else is going on with County Commission?
- 48:36Speaker 3: Business?
- 48:37Speaker 4: Got a meeting Thursday night?
- 48:37Speaker 15: I guess right, Yeah, we have a meeting Thursday night,
- 48:39Speaker 15: and we'll talk about the judicial annext stuff. But we've
- 48:42Speaker 15: you know, we just hosted a big group of business
- 48:46Speaker 15: people from Japan. The University of Charleston was phenomenal. Charlestonnayir
- 48:51Speaker 15: Alliance kind of arranged at all our bags and had
- 48:55Speaker 15: had out all of them over to u See for dinner.
- 48:58Speaker 15: And they're all looking to make We have a long history.
- 49:01Speaker 15: The state of West Virginia has a long history of
- 49:03Speaker 15: working with Japan, Toyota and for any others. And I
- 49:06Speaker 15: know that Governor Justice was very involved in that, and
- 49:11Speaker 15: so was a Senator Mansion, Senator Capito and so. But
- 49:15Speaker 15: it's funny because after when we finished up the dinner,
- 49:18Speaker 15: they wanted to go see the lights, so we took
- 49:20Speaker 15: him over to the ballpark and they had never seen
- 49:23Speaker 15: anything like that, so it was comical on us. They
- 49:26Speaker 15: were all kind of crammed into once one of the
- 49:29Speaker 15: smaller suites over there and just taking pictures, and then
- 49:32Speaker 15: we took them out on the field and walked through
- 49:34Speaker 15: and they had a great time. They truly enjoyed the meeting,
- 49:38Speaker 15: and you know, great job, Charles Snare Alliance. And did
- 49:41Speaker 15: any of them say you're the guy from the garbage can. No,
- 49:45Speaker 15: they didn't say that. I don't think they saw it.
- 49:47Speaker 15: But it was an interesting meeting because I gave a
- 49:52Speaker 15: speech and I would have to say a line and
- 49:53Speaker 15: then there'd be an interpreter that would basically translate everything
- 49:56Speaker 15: into Japanese. So it was one of the most unusual
- 49:59Speaker 15: speeches of it forgiven, where I would say a line
- 50:01Speaker 15: and then it would be and I assume she was
- 50:04Speaker 15: saying it.
- 50:04Speaker 4: I don't know what she was saying, selango. She could
- 50:06Speaker 4: have been saying anything.
- 50:07Speaker 15: She could have been just teasing, you know, like mocking
- 50:10Speaker 15: me the entire time, and I wouldn't know. But it
- 50:12Speaker 15: was a great meeting.
- 50:13Speaker 4: Well and that's good to hear. If the day valanchowing

- 50:41Speaker 4: they're actually down to a major copper theft at the park?
- 50:43Speaker 4: Not sure why that sugarcoat? Do you know that to
- 50:46Speaker 4: be a fighter? I do not know that.
- 50:48Speaker 15: I'm not sure if that's accurate or not. I knew,
- 50:50Speaker 15: I mean, I saw the social media post that it
- 50:52Speaker 15: was down for maintenance, but I'm not aware of a
- 50:53Speaker 15: copper theft. Yeah, nobody called and told me if.
- 50:57Speaker 4: I mean, you're the guy right in the check you
- 50:58Speaker 4: know which that's.
- 51:00Speaker 15: True, But they didn't tell me we did have a
- 51:02Speaker 15: I will tell you a funny story from last year.
- 51:04Speaker 15: A good friend of mine his in laws were on
- 51:08Speaker 15: the ferris wheel and I guess it's d it's run
- 51:11Speaker 15: by diesel, and they got up to the top and
- 51:14Speaker 15: it ran out of ran out of fuel winds. So
- 51:17Speaker 15: they were stuck up there for like thirty minutes and
- 51:19Speaker 15: they were texting me from the top, which was pretty funny.
- 51:22Speaker 4: But I did not have any I don't have any
- 51:25Speaker 4: knowledge of that of the copper issue, all right, So

- 51:57Speaker 15: and that included the entire the wristband, so they were
- 52:00Speaker 15: able to go through and ride all the rides. And
- 52:03Speaker 15: you know that's as a wonderful thing that he did.
- 52:05Speaker 15: Those kids otherwise may not have been able to go
- 52:07Speaker 15: through and he paid for all of them.
- 52:09Speaker 4: That's awesome kind of com mister Vinceulango. Appreciate you being here, buddy.
