- 2:10Good to be back gentlemen, how we feeling?
- 2:14It's snowing down here, That's all I know.
- 2:18It's snowing. It's, it's, it's snowing there.
- 2:20It's snowing here. It's.
- 2:21Snowing. I want to say it's snowing.
- 2:23It's snowed. It dusted.
- 2:25There, there's snow on the ground.
- 2:27Yeah, it dusted. We're actively getting some
- 2:30action here. Virginia Beach is getting
- 2:33slammed right now. Well, levar, well levar is levar
- 2:38levar down if levar checks in tonight Levar got to tell us how
- 2:43deep is it where he lives because I know he lives down in
- 2:45the 75. Talked to the the in laws not
- 2:48too long ago and they're plus 6 inches last I checked and it
- 2:52didn't even start till noon there.
- 2:54It we got like a dusting overnight here.
- 2:57Had a little bit of break in the morning and then about between
- 3:008:00 and 9:00 it came back with a with a fury and hasn't stopped
- 3:03since. Wow.
- 3:05Stuff, man. Wow.
- 3:07Got the hunger drill shirt on in honor.
- 3:10In honor, they're going through it right now.
- 3:12My, my, my oldest son loves this shirt by the way, he's like,
- 3:15he's like dad. That shirt's just so cool.
- 3:17So you know, and the the other son we got to something y'all
- 3:23have in the Canon a few weeks here.
- 3:25We we, we got to talk to Jay Lane last night.
- 3:28Me and Brian did, which was super awesome.
- 3:31And my middle son was hyped. He was like, that's 83, Don't
- 3:35you play with him on the game? And I'm like, yeah, I do.
- 3:38So his next question was, who else from the game are you going
- 3:43to be talking to soon? Like, I don't know, son.
- 3:45We'll see. We'll see.
- 3:46He's he's, he's hyped for it, man.
- 3:48Hey, we've already had a couple. We already had a couple of those
- 3:51folks in the game on here already.
- 3:52I know we had. I'm going to show him that he's
- 3:54going to get even more hyped. Tally, how's baseball going man?
- 3:57How cold was it when y'all played yesterday?
- 3:59Too cold, it was too cold, man. It probably, I think it was,
- 4:02ended up being maybe like 4042 somewhere around there.
- 4:08Too cold for me. I mean it was and most of the
- 4:11his games are double header so 4:30 and 6:30 type thing and
- 4:17about that 631 it was rough to deal.
- 4:19With soon as sun. Went down, it got red.
- 4:23We got games Friday and Saturday, which they're already
- 4:26talking about. It may be too cold to play one
- 4:28or both of those, so we'll see what's.
- 4:32Too cold to play in Alabama? Yeah, what's too cold to play in
- 4:35Alabama? Sub 40 let.
- 4:38Me see, how can I explain it? I don't know.
- 4:41I guess if you hit the ball and it jars your hand too much,
- 4:44that's too cold. I mean, it's no, it's no number.
- 4:48They're going, they're going to play as as much as they can, but
- 4:52I don't know what the number is to when they say it's too cold.
- 4:56All right, well listen, PT going to be a college ball player one
- 4:59day. Tell him when he's in D1 it
- 5:02don't matter how cold it is they play.
- 5:04Yeah, OK. Tell them you better go 26
- 5:08playing. Yeah, tell them you better try
- 5:09to get somewhere where it's warm.
- 5:10I want to be up north. Florida.
- 5:14Go to Florida. Anywhere in Florida that gives
- 5:16you a scholarship, just go right.
- 5:18All right. Well, fellas, it's good to be
- 5:19back together, y'all we've been all three of us we've.
- 5:22Been there's some weather updates from around the horn
- 5:24here guys. Let's get some weather.
- 5:25Updates in here. It's no snow, but it's 10° in
- 5:28Texas. Oh, we got another here.
- 5:33Robbie got out of school today for clouds.
- 5:36I just need to let us know what part of Texas is that damn cold?
- 5:39Yeah, Where is it? Up on the Panhandle or
- 5:42something. It's cold everywhere.
- 5:45I'd love to hear what's down in the 75 right now snow wise.
- 5:48So let us know. But it's been a few weeks.
- 5:50We got a ton to unload tonight. Obviously, we're going to talk
- 5:53offensive coordinator in just a few minutes here.
- 5:55We're going to talk about the extension of the ACC contract,
- 5:58the playoff talk as well, the House talk, all that stuff, just
- 6:02because that interests us. But let's talk about what
- 6:05happened a little over a couple weeks ago.
- 6:08And Tyler Bone effectively leaves the Virginia Tech Hokies
- 6:13in the offensive coordinated position, and he takes the
- 6:16offensive line coach. Hallelujah.
- 6:21Head of Ohio State Tally, I told you right off.
- 6:26I'm letting you go first on this one because six weeks ago.
- 6:30Let him go. I mean, again, I'll I, if I'm
- 6:35thinking in my like business mind, I guess if I'm Brett
- 6:40Pratt, I think Brett Pratt is the problem.
- 6:44That's what I think. I think he's the head coach.
- 6:47I think the problems have fallen on him, whether it's personnel
- 6:50problems or game managing problems or whatever they are.
- 6:53I think ultimately it falls on him.
- 6:56But everybody was so hyped to get rid of Marv and I said we
- 7:00had just as much problem on offense as we did defense.
- 7:04You got everything you wanted back on offense.
- 7:07I said all this returning production, you got your, you
- 7:11know, quarterback going back and you got everything you want on
- 7:14offense. And we shit the bed every game.
- 7:18Not one game, not two games, multiple games.
- 7:22We just look discombobulated to me.
- 7:25Everybody said, well, we scored, you know, this many points or we
- 7:28ranked this. I don't care about rankings if
- 7:31it doesn't equate to wins. Like if you, if it's situational
- 7:34football and you're not winning in those situations, it doesn't
- 7:38matter. So a lot of times we may have
- 7:41scored, scored 30 when we should have scored 40 or we should have
- 7:46scored 50, you know, with what we had and what we could have
- 7:51done. But again, I ain't, I'm not here
- 7:53just to bash Tyler Bowen, but he took another job and I'm happy
- 7:58that he did. But the thing that makes me
- 8:00think he took an offensive line coach job, right?
- 8:06And he was the offensive coordinator of the worst fucking
- 8:08offensive line in the ACC. That was not one time you could
- 8:16look in that room, just pop your head in that room and go, hey
- 8:17man, this shit don't look right. Y'all need to do something?
- 8:20Different. Like you couldn't say nothing.
- 8:23I just think a lot of times, man, these coaches just accept
- 8:26the check. They're checked out.
- 8:27Like they don't, they don't care.
- 8:28They act like they care. I get it.
- 8:30It's a job. Everybody goes to a job and you
- 8:32get paid to do your job. But like my wife is a nurse.
- 8:35I'm not trying to hype up, but she loves her job.
- 8:37She comes home and she tells me things and she goes to, I've
- 8:40seen her go to Walmart one time and and buy somebody who was
- 8:44getting out of the hospital some clothes because they didn't have
- 8:48family to get them clothes on the day they were leaving.
- 8:50So she went and did that. She loves her job, you know, and
- 8:54whatever they pay her, she is passionate about that job.
- 8:57Can't say the same about everybody.
- 9:00But when you're coaching my football team, I kind of want
- 9:03you to be passionate about it and really want to win.
- 9:06And sometimes I just feel like we weren't.
- 9:08And Tyler Bowen is one of the main, if you and I don't mean to
- 9:12go on a tangent, but everybody knows that Clemson was one of
- 9:17the worst, had one of the yeah, they had one of the worst
- 9:21Russian defenses of anybody that we played on our schedule.
- 9:25And I think we ran the ball like one time four times, however
- 9:28many times, 4 times. The running back, I was going to
- 9:31say it and you can't tell me. Oh, well, you didn't have any
- 9:34running back or the running back was hurt.
- 9:36You go give kids scholarships and NIL money to come play, put
- 9:40them on the field. Yeah, put three on the field.
- 9:43Three of those rushes were with your injured running back too.
- 9:46Come on. Man, Yeah, come on, man.
- 9:48Like as the offensive coordinator that should.
- 9:50That's the offensive coordinator.
- 9:51And everybody told me was good and safe.
- 9:53Come on, man. Get the fuck out.
- 9:55Go go coach offensive line or or I don't know, play swords with
- 10:01Ryan Day. I don't care what you do.
- 10:02Get the fuck out. Bye.
- 10:04Bye. I'm happy.
- 10:05I was excited. I didn't care who they got.
- 10:08They could have. They could have said Curtis
- 10:10Wilson is the new OC and I would have been more happy than Tyler
- 10:14born being now. Curtis, what playbook we running
- 10:17I'm. I'm kind of keen to playbook.
- 10:22No, no, I like the Florida. I like the Florida playbook
- 10:25right now. A lot of good amount of pistol
- 10:26and shotgun, little bit of Wildcat and stuff.
- 10:31But yeah, but but keep going, Jolly if you I'm.
- 10:34Going to say I, I mean that that that is it.
- 10:37I mean, that is where I was at from the beginning.
- 10:40And again, God bless Tyler Boyne.
- 10:43I hope he goes and has a successful career in whatever he
- 10:46does. I don't wish any bad on anybody,
- 10:48but I'm glad that he won't be in the booth or on the sidelines
- 10:52calling no plays for us because just didn't look right to me.
- 10:56Curtis, I'm going to throw it to you.
- 10:58What do you think? Well, with me, it's a couple
- 11:01things and I'll let Brian close it out in a second.
- 11:03But so a it is a demotion. But if you ever tell me I were
- 11:08to get a demotion and get a 20% raise less responsibility, I
- 11:14ain't going to be looked at all the time.
- 11:16Yep, I take it in a heartbeat and I like what I do as well.
- 11:20But if you told me I got a 20% raise less responsibility, yes,
- 11:23I will take it in a heartbeat. The other thing is this tally
- 11:26and I think it was in his head so let's say this next season
- 11:31we've hired a new defensive coordinator, right?
- 11:33We we're making some moves on that.
- 11:35What if we go out and win 8 or 9 games, but you see us what you
- 11:39just said tally, we have a game where we score 10 points of
- 11:42defense, hold them to 14 and we lose.
- 11:45Who's going to be the next person to get fired on the staff
- 11:47if we have an 8 win season? It was going to be the offensive
- 11:50coordinator. A lot of people said it should
- 11:52have happened. You were you were leading that
- 11:54charge, Tally, because what you just mentioned with the results.
- 11:57So I think for him, he sort of knew well, if I go to Ohio
- 12:00State, I get nothing but NFL prospects.
- 12:04I might not have to work as hard.
- 12:08I just noticed your little tag there, Tally.
- 12:10So I I I get it. And for him, you know, like you
- 12:16said, godspeed, Brian. I'm agreeing with Jim here.
- 12:23Tally is 100% correct. So let let's run back and I I
- 12:29tweeted this the other day when we were talking about Bowen
- 12:34relative to the higher. We'll we'll talk about that in a
- 12:37second. We're still focusing on Tyler
- 12:38Bowen right now. Got.
- 12:40Unloaded. When when we talk about Tyler
- 12:43Bowen, we talk about a guy that from an offensive mind
- 12:49perspective was, was up there pretty well like the guy, the
- 12:53guy knew scheme, right. So he he, he was good from that
- 12:56perspective. But what I saw consistently is
- 12:59that every year, it took us four years to really find any sort of
- 13:03consistent footing with our offense.
- 13:06So we're going through our entire out of conference
- 13:09schedule looking uneven. And that's not to say that we
- 13:13didn't have moments of greatness.
- 13:14I mean, the second-half against Vanderbilt looked pretty good,
- 13:18even though we had a couple situations where it wasn't so
- 13:20right. But you know, half of football,
- 13:23we look, we play confident. But for that first month of the
- 13:26season, we didn't put enough quarters together where you felt
- 13:29like that offense was clicking the way it should.
- 13:33That's that was consistent for three straight years.
- 13:36True all right, so and then situational play calls, much
- 13:41like talking about the Vanderbilt situational play
- 13:43calls and and situational starts to games where it it felt like
- 13:50we didn't necessarily have the right game plan coming in were
- 13:55were problematic to me. Those are my biggest criticisms.
- 14:00I thought that Bowen did mostly, you know, Clemson
- 14:03notwithstanding and Tally, you already hammered him on Clemson.
- 14:06I thought his adjustments in game and especially after
- 14:08halftime were pretty good regardless of anything else we
- 14:14were dealing with most of the year.
- 14:15But it's still those situational play calls that left you
- 14:20scratching your head. And it was those kind of initial
- 14:22game plans that sometime we come in with and we're like, why are
- 14:25we not taking advantage of these things?
- 14:29Why? Why do we feel like we're we're
- 14:32letting them dictate until we figure out where the holes are
- 14:35instead of watching enough tape and doing enough game planning
- 14:38where we're attacking those holes out the gate and we're
- 14:41jumping on teams Inexperience. They got, can I make a quick
- 14:45point to both y'all on this? So you talk about the Vanderbilt
- 14:49game. The first half was God awful
- 14:51offensively. It was let's go to the Boston
- 14:55College game real quick. We can't be stopped in the first
- 14:59half, 28, nothing. What happens in the third
- 15:04quarter, the offense basically doesn't move the ball at all, at
- 15:11all. It literally took Jaden Keller
- 15:14getting a fourth down stop to flip the momentum of that game.
- 15:17And it's like we've talked about going with this before.
- 15:21There were times when he rolls sevens.
- 15:23He just hit seven. He hit seven and seven.
- 15:26If he ain't rolling sevens, though, he's rolling snake eyes
- 15:29and he's busting you every time. So it was that inconsistency
- 15:34where times it looked like, my God, he, he can call every play,
- 15:37right? I go back to the first year,
- 15:392021 against NC State. That third quarter, we scored 21
- 15:46unanswered points. We do nothing in the first half,
- 15:49We do nothing in the fourth quarter and we lost that game
- 15:54and you can't do that. It's just the lulls.
- 15:57You, you can't. You can have a drive here or
- 16:00there, but you can't have these long periods of lulls where.
- 16:03You get 3. To four drives back-to-back
- 16:06where you don't really get anything out of them even if you
- 16:09score on the next 3 or 4. Situationally, things have
- 16:14changed in the game. The flow of the game has
- 16:16changed. The way you're having to run
- 16:18these run your offense now has changed.
- 16:21So you've lost the opportunity that you have by having those
- 16:24long ass lulls in the game. It doesn't happen in a vacuum.
- 16:29That's why you need to be consistent.
- 16:32Yeah, my problem with college football is that I I'm, I guess
- 16:38I'm a glutton for punishment. I go and watch too much film and
- 16:42to watch too much like off the ball stuff.
- 16:46If I'm off as a coordinator or a head coach or anybody and I have
- 16:50bashful tune in my backfield and he has to look over to the
- 16:53sidelines and tell me to give him the ball.
- 16:56I deserve to lose my job. And it was games when he was
- 17:00looking to the sidelines saying give me the ball, the one person
- 17:03on the team that was leaving it all on the field every single
- 17:07game. Not saying other guys didn't
- 17:08leave it on the field, but I'm saying every game.
- 17:11And it was times when he was saying, you know, give me the
- 17:14ball. Beginning of the season.
- 17:16We're like, why ain't they handing him the ball?
- 17:19Why ain't they give him, give him the ball.
- 17:21I don't know all. Right.
- 17:24The other thing I was going to talk about it Tally, this was
- 17:26kind of to your point with the offensive line higher here.
- 17:31So like he gets hired to to coach off into wine and you're
- 17:33like, why, why is it? Why aren't these discussions
- 17:36happening? If if you're you're in that
- 17:38room, you're that guy that is kind of overseeing this entire
- 17:42ship. And I think some of this might
- 17:45be just a mentality. And I don't know whether this is
- 17:47a a prize culture thing or whether this is just Tyler Bowen
- 17:51being inexperienced and not feeling like he can go in there
- 17:55and bust some asses. But at some point, like you got
- 17:58to be willing to step on folks toes and make them a little
- 18:01uncomfortable if they're not getting the job done.
- 18:04Yeah, yeah. No, I agree 100%.
- 18:07I agree. 100% that that that is effectively that management
- 18:11responsibility, right? Office of Coordinator, people
- 18:15can say what you want to say. Head coaches, the CEO, those
- 18:18guys are the VPS and guess what, if you can't go there, what you
- 18:22just said, Brian, if you can't, if you don't have the stones or
- 18:25the intestinal fortune to walk into somebody's room and like
- 18:28you are screwing up, let's talk through things.
- 18:31You can bust them in front of people.
- 18:33That's whatever that's what happens.
- 18:35That happens to people. So anyway, Boeing off to Ohio
- 18:39State, Tally's happy and let me hit this y'all before we talk
- 18:43about the higher the name floating around yet Christian
- 18:46Taylor, Neil Brown. There was one other person, I
- 18:51cannot remember who it was if y'all can remember, but I.
- 18:56Think it was a dude at East Carolina.
- 18:57I can't remember the. Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:59It was the OCD. He was.
- 19:01He's like 30. He's younger and Tyler Bowen.
- 19:03But he also was lanes Co OC down at old Miss.
- 19:05So that's that means you don't call plays though.
- 19:09That means you do shit, but you don't call plays.
- 19:11But any of those names stick out like it all John David Baker.
- 19:20Nah. Nothing Job.
- 19:22Not really. I mean, I know when we were
- 19:25talking about it, when it was first kind of leaked, when they
- 19:30talked about Christian Taylor, I was like who?
- 19:33I think I put in the chat like nobody knows who this guy is.
- 19:36And then y'all was like, you know, hey dude.
- 19:38Dude, we all wanted him. He.
- 19:39Was like he's the guy we wanted to hire over Bowen when the
- 19:42first round of washer man. I did a little bit of research
- 19:46afterwards and I was like, OK, I mean, if we get him, hopefully
- 19:51he can do something, but wasn't too excited.
- 19:56I mean, it was, I wasn't mad, but I wasn't, I wasn't excited.
- 19:59I get to, you know, the the second part of that when we
- 20:03start talking about the high. But when the names was floating
- 20:06around, it was just like, all I wanted was the experience.
- 20:10And like I said, I know we're going to get into it.
- 20:12I want an experience and I wanted somebody who was not
- 20:15linked to. Like I don't care if they went
- 20:18to Virginia Tech. I don't care if they've been
- 20:19here. I don't care if they know pride
- 20:21and they're cool with him. I wanted somebody to come in and
- 20:24be like I'm trying to, you know, I'm trying to revamp my career
- 20:30as well. I'm trying to get to the next
- 20:31level. I don't want just come in and
- 20:35follow orders, you know, So again, I know we're talking
- 20:39about it here in a minute when we when we actually get to the
- 20:42high. But Brian, what did you, I know
- 20:44we, I know we talk all the time. So yeah, you what did you think
- 20:48about, you know, the names that were floating around?
- 20:51Excited, not excited. I don't know if excited would
- 20:55would be the right word because it's hard to get excited when
- 20:58you are having to replace an offensive coordinator in
- 21:00February. Yeah.
- 21:02But relative to the names that were out there and kind of who I
- 21:08thought was available, who I thought made sense, you know,
- 21:14shout out Tim Thomas, you know, there was some names that made a
- 21:17lot of sense, right? All the names make sense.
- 21:20There there was there was names that made a lot of sense.
- 21:22Neil Brown made a lot of sense. Ricky Ronnie made a lot of
- 21:25sense. Like names like.
- 21:26That they kind of got floated. Out there pretty early, those
- 21:28those made a lot of sense. So you got you got head coaching
- 21:31experience. That's something that Crockett
- 21:33potentially lean on. You know, whether good, bad or
- 21:35ugly, they both have head coaching experience.
- 21:37So that's bringing at least another round of experience into
- 21:40the room that could help him with his process as well that he
- 21:44can kind of use to to lean on in some of those areas that he can
- 21:48spend an offseason with and kind of talk through different
- 21:51scenarios where he feels like he can improve his skill set as a
- 21:55head coach, right? So that that's helpful in those
- 21:58standpoint. So if we were given like a
- 22:00Ricky, like putting a curve in there, right?
- 22:03If you got a Ricky Ronnie to Neil Brown, that was going to be
- 22:05an A+ to me given given the circumstances.
- 22:08So that we're we're setting the curve with those names and then
- 22:12down from there, I think you look at somebody like Taylor,
- 22:17somebody like John David Baker that would kind of be in that B
- 22:20range, right. So you got a you got a couple
- 22:22guys that have had some experience, considered, you
- 22:28know, up and comers up and comers really good minds,
- 22:32innovative minds on the offensive side of the football,
- 22:36but not necessarily P4 experience.
- 22:38Obviously no head coaching experience.
- 22:40So you're you're it's not somebody that can have that
- 22:43mentor mentee relationship with pry either.
- 22:46So that that's kind of that B range, you know, somewhere in
- 22:50the BB minus range, right. So that that's kind of where I
- 22:53was hoping that at we would be at worse was going into that B
- 22:55minus range. And then, you know, Neil Brown
- 22:59and Ricky Ronnie would have kind of set my curve at a A+ range if
- 23:02we were able to pull those guys in.
- 23:04Yeah. So now you know Curtis, you can
- 23:06say your piece and then we can, you know, talk about where we
- 23:08think, think the hire. Went well.
- 23:10I'll hit it real quick. If it had been Christian Taylor,
- 23:12you look at the innovation down at William and Mary and it would
- 23:14be like, we can live with that. He's a grafting kid.
- 23:17He's a 75 kid. So he played down there.
- 23:20He played quarterback and linebacker.
- 23:22He played with actually a guy me and Brian have worked with in
- 23:25the past. He soon as that king copped out,
- 23:27I got a text from my buddy Sean. He's like, dude, I, I played
- 23:30ball with this guy. He's a good player.
- 23:32He's a good coach. But to your point, Brian, real
- 23:34quick, Ricky Ronnie, to me, Neil Brown would have been the one,
- 23:39but he's a head coach that's getting paid $7 million over the
- 23:43next 3:00-ish. Not do Jack shit.
- 23:46And you know what, he's like 44 years old.
- 23:50Somebody tells me we'll give you $7,000,000.
- 23:52You don't have to do anything for the next few years.
- 23:55And you know the amount of pressure, these guys, I
- 23:56understand why he didn't take it.
- 23:58But where, where, where the names that got floated were
- 24:03fine. Like there we did not have AC or
- 24:06D. These are betters where we were.
- 24:09And then finally we land on Phillip Montgomery and kind of a
- 24:15name out of nowhere. There were some people on
- 24:17certain places saying the guy's experience.
- 24:20It's a really experienced hire. And you know, for y'all who have
- 24:24been living under a rock for the past couple days, you know,
- 24:28Phillip Montgomery is hired as the offensive coordinator.
- 24:32His most previous stop was in college was at Auburn back in
- 24:362023. Tally's going to get into that
- 24:39in a few seconds. And then he was the Co OC of the
- 24:42Birmingham Stallions in the UFL and they won the Championship
- 24:46last year. Tons of stop between here and
- 24:49there and we're going to hit all that.
- 24:50But I'm all pitch it to Brian first.
- 24:53Brian with this resume. Kevin, what's happening?
- 24:57Kevin is here. Can it be killed?
- 25:00Kevin's name got I think dropped at the presser the other day
- 25:04straight up. But Brian, you look at his
- 25:07resume, I mean 20 plus years as a collegiate coach, what excites
- 25:13you most about the resume that comes in?
- 25:17I think the thing that excites me the most and the thing that
- 25:20probably excites the gentleman whose name just flashed across
- 25:24the screen the most is the legitimate quarterback coaching
- 25:29experience that this guy's bringing to the table.
- 25:31Whether Pry has him as a walk around OC or whether he is
- 25:35sticking strictly in that quarterback room, you know,
- 25:37that's that remains to be seen. I don't think Pry kind of
- 25:41hammered that home at the presser, but regardless, having
- 25:47that guy with that much coaching experience in the room, being
- 25:49the guy that's pulling the trigger on on these play calls,
- 25:52that means a lot from a development standpoint.
- 25:55That means a lot from how do you incorporate your quarterback
- 25:58into your overall scheme standpoint.
- 26:00So I'm excited from that front. You know, when we're talking
- 26:04about grades, if Dale Brown was the A+ here, I'm going to give
- 26:07this it's a -, B plus range for me.
- 26:11It's somewhere, you know, between the, the, the Ronnie and
- 26:16the the deal Brown hire but but higher than those other two
- 26:20names, young and innovative, but maybe not quite no head coaching
- 26:25experience. You're not bringing necessarily
- 26:27the the quarterback room experience that you like.
- 26:29If you hire a Christian Taylor, for example, So you you get both
- 26:33of those things with this, you get kind of that that mentor
- 26:37type relationship that proc and lean on from a, you know, a guy
- 26:40that's been a head coach, you know, at the D1 level.
- 26:44So, you know, all these things are are, I think, big pluses.
- 26:47And to Tally's point, somebody that wants to earn a spot back,
- 26:52right. So it is a guy that, you know,
- 26:55was AOC had a ton of success out the gate, you know, through his
- 27:00time and initially as a head coach and primary play caller at
- 27:04Tulsa, had some some pretty good success early on in in his stint
- 27:07as a head coach at Tulsa. And now, you know, obviously
- 27:11that didn't work out long term at Tulsa.
- 27:13You know, you had a little bit of a rough stint at Auburn that
- 27:16I know Tally's going to elaborate on a little bit there.
- 27:18And, you know, you go to the UFL, have some success and now
- 27:23you're you're kind of working your way back into, you know, P4
- 27:27football now at Virginia Tech. So you got an opportunity to
- 27:30really show that you still got what it takes.
- 27:32And I like having a guy that is hungry and still has something
- 27:35to prove. Tell what about you, you look at
- 27:39that resume up there, you know, 20 plus years coaching, coaching
- 27:43high school as well. What, like did you when you
- 27:46looked at it and said, damn, I like that right there?
- 27:48Man, it's just experience, man. Like like Brian said, I think
- 27:53Josh just put it in the chat, he said.
- 27:55Quarterback coach for RG3. Sometimes if you've never seen
- 28:02something, it's hard for you to imagine what to do with it, you
- 28:05know what I'm saying? It's like when I was selling
- 28:07cars and somebody would go, excuse me, when I was selling
- 28:11cars and somebody would go like, well, what's the difference in
- 28:15ART to a scat pack? Now?
- 28:19I can't explain it to you if you ain't been in it, you know what
- 28:21I'm saying? Like it's got more horsepower.
- 28:23It's don't go faster. It's going to go if you stomp
- 28:27the gas, it's going to get to the next light faster than this
- 28:31one. That's the that's what it's
- 28:33going to do. But unless you actually been
- 28:35behind the wheel and you stump the gas and the back wheels get
- 28:38squirrely and you know how to hold it in the road, things like
- 28:41that, you can't expect what to do until you've been in the
- 28:45position. So somebody who has coached a
- 28:48mobile quarterback who has, I mean, at the highest level, RG3,
- 28:53you know, think about RG3. And even when he was at Tulsa,
- 28:56we don't even have to talk that far.
- 28:58You know, when he was at Tulsa, you can think about some of the
- 29:00quarterbacks that he had and the plays that they ran.
- 29:04I think 247 did a really good. They did a really good
- 29:08comparison of kind of like bowing to Montgomery's offensive
- 29:13style and how it will change a little bit, getting the ball out
- 29:17of the quarterback's hands faster, a little bit more up
- 29:20tempo, things like that. But the main thing, we can talk
- 29:24all the numbers. I get Shelton on here to tell me
- 29:26all the numbers. I know he's he can dive into it
- 29:28like way, way better than anybody else.
- 29:30But just from a football fan standpoint, a Virginia Tech fan
- 29:36standpoint, you get somebody with head coaching experience
- 29:41that, like Brian said, has something to prove.
- 29:44And if things look wonky, most of the time, a coach like that
- 29:50will be like, hey, man, I don't agree with this.
- 29:52This don't look right. Why are we doing this?
- 29:54You know, and instead of just OK, we friends and I'm just
- 29:58going to, I'm just doing my job. You know, I'm just, I don't need
- 30:00a just I'm just doing my job person.
- 30:02I mean, we can win, let's win. And sometimes you just don't
- 30:06have the horses to win. Like really, some team, some
- 30:09games you play to other teams just better than you and you
- 30:12deserve to lose. It wasn't the case in a lot of
- 30:15games we played. Coaching lost us a lot of games.
- 30:18Being playing scared lost us a lot of games.
- 30:21You know, I'm not saying Montgomery's going to come in
- 30:24and change all of that because like I said at the beginning of
- 30:27the of the of the broadcast, it's ultimately on Pry.
- 30:32Pry is the man. Like he has to be better for
- 30:36Virginia Tech to win as a head coach.
- 30:39But you bring in somebody like Matt Moore in that offensive
- 30:42line room with a lot of experience and you bring in
- 30:45somebody like Montgomery with a lot of experience and powerful
- 30:49experience, you know, you know, and and I know we're going to
- 30:54get to it, which I'll go ahead and, and hop into it as well.
- 30:58When you talk about, because I've seen some people say, you
- 31:01know, he was down at Auburn and he sucked.
- 31:04Well, we ain't Auburn, you know, that's number one.
- 31:07I never understand when people say, well, he was at this school
- 31:10and he he sucked. Well, guess what?
- 31:12He might not have been a fit there.
- 31:13There's a lot of things that go into a factor of I don't know
- 31:17how Tyler Bowen got an offensive line coach job at Ohio State, I
- 31:21don't fucking know. I really don't know, but he's up
- 31:24there. He making $1,000,000.
- 31:26He going to make some money, so yes, exactly James.
- 31:30But most of the time from what I've seen, I mean, I'm around,
- 31:36I'm in Alabama, so Alabama and Auburn fans is what I'm around.
- 31:39Most Auburn fans are very happy with what Freeze has done
- 31:44recruiting wise. He is, he's, he's busting ass
- 31:47and recruiting. Like he just knows how to
- 31:49recruit. You know what I'm saying?
- 31:51He's he, he, he knows how to get in the mix.
- 31:53He knows the things to say. He knows I don't know where to
- 31:57drop the money if that's what he has to do.
- 31:59Like he'll get a little dirty. He'll he, he knows how to
- 32:02recruit, but when it comes to putting it on the field, he's
- 32:05been dropping the ball. You know, when you get into the
- 32:08recruiting game and you're talking to a high school high 4
- 32:14star, borderline 5 star running back and you say, OK, if I come
- 32:18to your school, how many touches am I going to get in my freshman
- 32:20year? And then you promise them
- 32:22something and then you don't live up to it.
- 32:23That's probably going to get you in some trouble.
- 32:25You know what I'm saying? When you got the offensive
- 32:27coordinator and the and the head coach on a different like they,
- 32:33they're just on different playing fields, you know what I
- 32:35mean? So I think that's a lot of stuff
- 32:37that happened when Montgomery was at Auburn.
- 32:39Freeze wanted it one way. Montgomery kind of wanted to do
- 32:43his thing and Freeze was like, no, we're going to run, but I
- 32:45want to run and I'm going to take over play calling and I'm
- 32:48going to go with this quarterback, I'm going to go
- 32:50with this. They ran off all the
- 32:52quarterbacks. August had some good
- 32:54quarterbacks to come through and they just, they ran them all off
- 32:58to go with Peyton Thorne. And Peyton Thorne ain't even
- 33:00from yet, like he's from Michigan or something.
- 33:03He came from Michigan State. So it wasn't like it was a local
- 33:07kid that they just had all this trust in.
- 33:09Auburn ran off Bo Nicks even before like Freeze got there.
- 33:13Like they just mismanaged a lot of quarterbacks.
- 33:16So Auburn's got their own problems.
- 33:18So anybody who's saying, well, he was at Auburn and he sucked,
- 33:22like Auburn's got bigger problems than an offensive
- 33:25coordinator, I'll just say that. So hopefully they get together
- 33:29because I love to watch Auburn. Like I, if I was any other fan
- 33:32besides like a Virginia Tech fan, I'd probably be an Auburn
- 33:34fan because I just keep up with like a lot of kids that I've
- 33:38known personally have gone to Auburn and Auburn's kind of that
- 33:44underdog in the, in the, you know, in the, in the Alabama,
- 33:50Alabama, Auburn rivalry. So I've kept up with him a lot.
- 33:53But back to what we talking about with Montgomery.
- 33:57Montgomery being there, as you can see, he was only there for
- 34:00one year. I really think that he just
- 34:03didn't have his feet under him to do what he wants to do.
- 34:06Freeze kind of wanted it to be and and that's his team, you
- 34:10know, it's his team. And if his name's on the line,
- 34:13he wanted it to be how he wanted it.
- 34:15And I understand. So one thing I can say about
- 34:17Montgomery, though, is when he got out of Auburn, he went
- 34:19straight to straight to the the UFL to try to get some old like
- 34:25experience and money and like he hungry, he trying to he trying
- 34:28to get somewhere. So I'm hoping that he just
- 34:30brings that here and I'm hoping that he doesn't bite his tongue
- 34:34when he sees stuff that's off. You know, I don't know exactly
- 34:38where his if he's on field, if he's in the booth, I don't know,
- 34:42but I just want him to be in prize ear like, hey man, this
- 34:45don't make sense. Why are you making my
- 34:46quarterback? We got A2 capable running backs.
- 34:49Why are we running our quarterback right here, you
- 34:52know, or why are we throwing the ball to the tight end right here
- 34:55when we have two good receivers? Whatever the case may be, I just
- 35:00hope he brings his experience to move the offense along.
- 35:03So I know that was a lot at one time.
- 35:06Curtis. Yeah.
- 35:08What you thinking? Well, with me, it's it's the
- 35:11head coach experience and it's for a couple reasons for for
- 35:13pride. First of all, not only his
- 35:16experience as an OC, but his experience as a head coach
- 35:19pride. The only thing he needs to go in
- 35:21is go check on that room. How's it going?
- 35:23Little motivational speech. Clap everybody up, make
- 35:26everybody feel good and leave. Because you have a guy who's
- 35:30effectively been an offensive coordinator, if I do the math
- 35:32here, because he called us all his offense, 1516 years of 1516
- 35:42years of calling offenses. He knows that room.
- 35:46Don't deal with that. The other thing about him being
- 35:49a head coach is he's been a head coach a hell of a lot more years
- 35:53than Brent Pryor ever has. Brent Pryor needs to get in his
- 35:55ear. Let's talk about game
- 35:56management, how we want to do things.
- 35:59What did you learn? Because you, you put up there
- 36:02with the Tech Sideline podcast. I, I listened to the interview
- 36:05today, shout out Chris Coleman, but big shout out.
- 36:09I am so glad they gave David Cunningham the lead chair and
- 36:12let him interview. That kid has been on this show
- 36:15numerous times. We've gotten to know him pretty
- 36:17well. He deserves to get to do things
- 36:19like that and he made a great play or a great interview with
- 36:23Montgomery today. But when you when you have that
- 36:27experience, it's almost like, don't worry about that room.
- 36:30That guy's been through experiences asking about what he
- 36:32would do in this situation. You have now effectively you can
- 36:37say a Lieutenant, he he's got a true Lieutenant now he can go in
- 36:41as being a head coach and say, hey, what would you do right
- 36:44here? Should we call timeouts right
- 36:46here? And I think that if anything,
- 36:48because Callie, you keep saying it, it is all on pride.
- 36:52It is all on pride. And if he's the problem, well,
- 36:55now you got somebody who's went through the wringer, right?
- 36:58Figure out what he did wrong. See if it's the same thing
- 37:00you're doing wrong and what can you do to maybe fix it?
- 37:03Because you still got to fix it. As far as the other stuff goes
- 37:08with the offense, you know, you know, somebody put it out here.
- 37:16I don't know where it was, but legitimately this might be the
- 37:23legitimate, most legitimate offseason higher in Virginia
- 37:28Tech history, history we have. And somebody said what about was
- 37:34it Phillip Nancy, right, Can't remember that.
- 37:36I always screw up the Dings. Y'all know I'm good at doing
- 37:39that? No.
- 37:45What was his name that he was, he became the defensive
- 37:48coordinator before Bud. Somebody throw it in there.
- 37:51I'm butchering his last name. I can like see it right now.
- 37:55But he was never defensive coordinator.
- 37:57He came as a defensive back coach and that happened.
- 38:00We've never had a hire like this big where you look at that
- 38:02resume and it's like even a head coach, even an offensive
- 38:05coordinator. He coached the Heisman Trophy
- 38:07winner. They won a bunch of games at
- 38:08Baylor. He's coached for NFL
- 38:10quarterbacks. Thank you, James, right there,
- 38:14Phillip Monson. But we've never had a hire like
- 38:19this. I give pride credit because some
- 38:21coaches wouldn't hire another head coach to come in.
- 38:25So again, it's the big changes. I think there's two things here
- 38:29and this is kind of pivot into what we're going to talk about
- 38:31next from a scheme standpoint, but looking at this hire and
- 38:35looking at the move Esefkus the so so two things here.
- 38:41These are both guys that other than some some passing, you
- 38:47know, pass crossing, these aren't his guys.
- 38:53There we go. Yeah, name butchered.
- 38:55Everybody drink. You're drinking game you.
- 38:57Know what if you listen to an episode like the state of the
- 39:01program, you will get drunk off that game.
- 39:03I don't know if we'll quite go long enough tonight for that,
- 39:07but if you get one of those two or three hour benders you you
- 39:09might you might get drunk off that.
- 39:12But you know, talking about skiing, these are two
- 39:14coordinators. Both of these coordinator hires
- 39:16are kind of outside of prize former sphere of influence,
- 39:21right. These these are not his guys.
- 39:23These are not buddies. These are not people that he's
- 39:26had kind of on his short list for years and years, right?
- 39:30These are guys that when he evaluated what he needs to do at
- 39:35Virginia Tech this offseason, he's he identified that there
- 39:40needs to be some shifts to be successful.
- 39:43And it looks like on defense, that's going to be more, you
- 39:47know, 3 high safety looks mixed up with a hybrid front.
- 39:54And, and when you look at offense, it's it's going to be
- 39:57more, I'm not going to say downfield passing, but less
- 40:01behind this, behind this line of scrimmage passing.
- 40:05When we look at the way we're attacking defenses between the
- 40:07tackles, it looks like, looks like he's leaning on us needing
- 40:11to get better between those tackles to be more consistent in
- 40:15the running game. So he, he, he's addressing that.
- 40:20And I think that's impressive because these are.
- 40:23They're not wholesale changes from a, from a scheme standpoint
- 40:28there there's a lot of overlapping elements in both of
- 40:32these schemes, but there are certainly, you know, big
- 40:35picture, these are different looking defenses and different
- 40:39looking offenses. And, and and that's, that's
- 40:42something that you got to give him some kudos to, to look at.
- 40:45He didn't just, you know, say we're, we're.
- 40:48Cooking. With the status quo.
- 40:50Just cookies. You didn't cookie cut these
- 40:53hires. Yeah.
- 40:54So he's he's evaluating everything and he said we we
- 40:57need to have a shift on both sides of the ball.
- 40:59I'm excited about this offensive scheme.
- 41:03I think it's going to be a good fit for the skilled personnel
- 41:08that we already have on on offense.
- 41:11I think it's going to help ease the offensive line into what
- 41:15they're looking at. When you think about more
- 41:18coaching offensive line, this is a similar philosophy to what
- 41:23we're looking at with, you know, if a Neil Brown came in.
- 41:26So you know, some of the terminology is going to be
- 41:27similar. There's there's going to be some
- 41:29overlapping elements there. So I think they vibed well as
- 41:32far as what what they each wanted to accomplish when
- 41:35thinking about, I'm going to call him Phil Monte, like the
- 41:38full Monte, but it's Phil. Phil Monte.
- 41:40Phil Monte and and our board, Matt Moore here, I think they
- 41:44vibe pretty well on what they were trying to do offensively
- 41:47and that's that's why this was a good fit.
- 41:50What did you like about the run scheme?
- 41:51Because you you said you you got a chance.
- 41:54We found that YouTube video and I think you went in back and
- 41:57watched a couple games. What does his and more scheme
- 42:01What? What is the meshes?
- 42:03What like? This is already in place.
- 42:05This is already in place. Guys will already know
- 42:07terminology. All right, so you know, when we
- 42:10look at, you know, Neil Brown's offense, it was an air raid, but
- 42:14it was a run first air raid. It was a balanced air raid.
- 42:17When we look at what Monty has ran, you know it's mostly veer
- 42:22and shoot. It's that art brows that Josh
- 42:25Hypel type offense. It's it's going to be heavy with
- 42:30it's more of a hybrid scheme. It's got air raid principles
- 42:33from a passing standpoint, but there's still those Smash Mouth
- 42:37spread principles that you're going to look at from a more
- 42:40traditional spread offense. So it's kind of a hybrid of
- 42:43that. And I think that's going to be
- 42:46good for a quarterback like Kyron drones, because I think
- 42:50that's going to help him develop his passing, especially his
- 42:53downfield passing. But you're also going to see him
- 42:57still be active in the run game, still be able to use his power,
- 43:00his athleticism in the run game. So I'm excited about both of
- 43:03those standpoints. And you know, looking at the run
- 43:05game specifically, what you see with this is a lot of kind of
- 43:10when it's when it's wide, when it's outside the tackles, you
- 43:13know, a lot of zone philosophies from a scheme perspective in the
- 43:17run game. But you know, between the
- 43:18tackles, you're going to see a lot of gap, you're going to see
- 43:21a lot of power, a lot of dart, some ISO.
- 43:23So there's going to be those elements when you're running
- 43:26between the tackles, but more of that zone concept when you're
- 43:29getting wide. So you're going to see that,
- 43:32that beer, that wide zone, stuff like that.
- 43:34You're still see that blocked up pretty similar to what we've
- 43:36seen in the past. Tally anything to add on top of
- 43:42that for maybe ask question? No, not really, man.
- 43:46I mean, we've been hitting on it a little bit.
- 43:48I think everybody, I mean, I just, I'm, I'm just excited for
- 43:51change. You know what I'm saying?
- 43:53I feel like you got to change on offense, change on defense.
- 43:58You're trying, you're trying put your best football.
- 44:01Let's go see what it is. Let's go see what happens.
- 44:04I am I am excited about the more I feel like in certain games,
- 44:09especially tempo would have helped us.
- 44:12So I'm excited about, you know, the tempo changing and you know,
- 44:17probably, I think he said in his, in his clip with the team
- 44:22that we would use tempo as a weapon.
- 44:25I think that was the word. So even at the lowest, like the
- 44:31slowest tempo that he had was faster than on tempo.
- 44:35I think his slowest tempo was at Auburn.
- 44:37I'm looking at it on 247. It was like 63.
- 44:43So plays per game. It's pretty much like 63.62.
- 44:48That was in 2023. Now hours over the time that
- 44:53Tyler Bone was here over the past three seasons was 62.5 S as
- 45:00and that was the lowest that his was like the next lowest for
- 45:05Montgomery was 69.83, you know, and the highest that it's ever
- 45:12been is 87. I ain't saying that we get
- 45:15there. But.
- 45:17I don't think we need to get there, but I, I think what,
- 45:19what, what tempo. Does is it?
- 45:21It, it lets you, it lets you shift gears, right?
- 45:24It lets you shift gears because I, you know, and, and let's
- 45:27think about this a little bit, think about some of the moments
- 45:29that were the most head scratching and hair pulling for
- 45:33us, right? Two-minute offense.
- 45:36Yeah. And, and the reason for that is
- 45:39that it's hard when you're not playing fast to get into that
- 45:43gear. And when you're conditioned to
- 45:46play fast because you can all, it's a lot easier to slow down
- 45:48than it is a speed up. Yep, right, it is.
- 45:52It is. And that's the thing he said in
- 45:54the interview with TSL today that caught my ear was we're not
- 45:58going to go fast all the time. He's like, we're going to go
- 46:00fast, we're going to go medium. And he said sometimes we're
- 46:04going to go slow. He said that's something he's
- 46:05learned over the last few years of coaching because he talked
- 46:08about you get in a track meet and your defense don't get time
- 46:13to breathe. Well, you ain't doing them no
- 46:15good. But he said at other times he's
- 46:19like it. It sounded like you wanted to
- 46:21say there's other times you're up 14 to three and they're on
- 46:26their heels, put the hammer down and get to 21 because guess
- 46:30what? That game playing they had, it's
- 46:32gone, they down 18 points now they can't dictate the terms to
- 46:37you because you've gotten it. So it seems like to me he's not
- 46:40going to be back to the old Baylor style.
- 46:41But I think like you said, Brian, like you mentioned,
- 46:44Tally, there's going to be times where he's going to look at Kyra
- 46:47and he's going to say we're just going to go, yeah, I'm going to
- 46:50give you the first play. You're going to go, we're going
- 46:52to call it, we're going to snap it in 12 seconds.
- 46:54And there's going to be times where we're just going to pound
- 46:57the ball because that inside run scheme you talked about, Brian,
- 47:01y'all can say what you want to say to me.
- 47:03It's been over the past about 10 plus years, maybe even more,
- 47:07that there are times where it's third and one, third and two.
- 47:11We can't run the ball inside to get them.
- 47:13And I, I, I don't know if it's for somebody like me, like White
- 47:18Teller was on this team. White Teller is one of the best
- 47:20interior guards. We didn't have the right scheme
- 47:23to push forward 2 yards. So hopefully it all comes to
- 47:27fruition. The other thing, and I think
- 47:30Doug Bowen put this out 247, I think I sent it to y'all, the
- 47:34amount of passes behind or at the line of scrimmage, his a
- 47:38significantly less than Tyler Bowen.
- 47:42His intermediate is significantly higher.
- 47:45Yep. Significantly higher.
- 47:47And what I liked about looking at the tape I did is if you
- 47:51notice just about every single time there's a pass play,
- 47:56there's either like a drag, a quick curl or a flat route.
- 48:00There is always an easy pass for the quarterback to make to gain
- 48:04positive yards. And I think there were times you
- 48:09can say the line of scroll, that's the line of scrimmage
- 48:11pass. Well, The thing is if you pass
- 48:13the fall 2 yards behind the line of scrimmage and somebody blows
- 48:16it up, guess what, it's second and 12.
- 48:19Now you were behind the sticks versus if you run a drag round
- 48:22and get 3 yards as second and seven, everything to play books
- 48:25there to get a decent third down.
- 48:29Anything else additional on the scheme?
- 48:31Brian Talley, I. Don't think so.
- 48:36I think we're good, man. We can move on.
- 48:37All right, somebody is asking. I'll find it here.
- 48:41Where'd it go about the recruiting ability?
- 48:45Well, right now we do not know the staff makeup.
- 48:50We know that there's change is coming, probably literally said
- 48:53that at the press conference. There's going to be some things
- 48:55shuffled. There's probably some more
- 48:57people getting hired. And to be honest, y'all, I don't
- 49:02think, I think to your point, what you said a little earlier,
- 49:05Brian, I think he's going to primarily coach the
- 49:07quarterbacks, but I think he's going to be in every room.
- 49:10And I think that is the that is the thing pride wants now.
- 49:14He wins his coordinators. Listen, you're not going to be
- 49:17travelling on the week of games. You're going to sit here and get
- 49:20the game plan ready. That is your job.
- 49:25Yeah. And on that question, when
- 49:27somebody asked, they said what about his recruiting ability?
- 49:30I think they're just asking like, do we think he's a good
- 49:33recruiter? Who knows, man.
- 49:35I mean, realistically, I don't think it really matters.
- 49:37I think that as far as in this position, I think that the
- 49:42production is going to be the recruiting tool that you would
- 49:44need. Like you got to go out and show
- 49:47somebody what the offense looks like.
- 49:49I mean, you're in a damn good position with Kyron Jones as
- 49:52your quarterback, you know, and then you bring in some great
- 49:55skill players as well. If you go out and you make this
- 49:58offense look halfway decent, you will turn some heads and make
- 50:02some people want to come. We we've been getting good
- 50:03players, even if when we had bad offenses or bad teams.
- 50:07So if you go out and you produce and you win, you know, I think
- 50:13that that's the bigger recruiting tool than just him
- 50:17being a recruiter. You know, even like when Bud,
- 50:21you know, when Bud was defensive coordinator, he wasn't a huge
- 50:24recruiter. Like when people think about
- 50:26Bud, if you if you know anything about him, he wasn't a huge
- 50:29recruiter. So when he went and got Dax
- 50:32because like that was his guy, like it was a big deal for him
- 50:36to put that much time in recruit cause Bud just didn't do that
- 50:39so. He didn't.
- 50:40He was a he was a good closer, but he didn't get the road very
- 50:42he didn't. Hit the he didn't hit the road
- 50:44that much. So I'm not saying like, I just
- 50:46don't think that that plays as big of a deal as like.
- 50:51Well, hold on Cal positions, you want to know the recruiting
- 50:54stats. If he goes out here and Kyron
- 50:56throws for 3000A, Green goes for 1000, Donovan Green goes for
- 51:001000, and the two guys we brought in through the portal
- 51:04rush for 1000, there's going to be damn people kicking down your
- 51:07door when they come here like. Green Green sounds like a law
- 51:10firm man. We going we going to have some
- 51:11yeah, we going to have some law firm.
- 51:14We can put up some law firm numbers.
- 51:15So I, I was looking at his 247 recruiting history.
- 51:18So he pulled a four-star like high bid folk, 4 star
- 51:23quarterback Walker White while he was at Auburn got pulled a
- 51:28four-star wide receiver, Baylor 4 star wide receiver while he
- 51:31was at at Tulsa. So he was the primary on a on a
- 51:35wide receiver while he was the head coach, which you don't
- 51:38really see that, but you know, it is what it is.
- 51:42He he pulled a. Well, you say he was at Tulsa.
- 51:45Yeah. Yeah, yeah, he was calling his
- 51:47own plays at Tulsa, too. So yeah, exactly had something
- 51:50to do with it. Yeah, so I mean, he he pulled a
- 51:52four-star wide receiver primary, you know, recruiter on a, on a
- 51:58wide receiver while he was the head coach and obviously
- 52:00recruited Bryce Petty, who was a mid to low three star and, you
- 52:06know, turned him into a hell of a quarterback.
- 52:09So. Two time back, player of the
- 52:11year got drafted all around the league a few years.
- 52:14So yeah, in in the recruiting point.
- 52:17It's you're to a point now, and I know we don't we're going to
- 52:21talk about this, but like, high school recruiting's almost
- 52:24become the secondary. Yeah.
- 52:26It is like, like, like I keep thinking about the Michigan
- 52:30situation. They're going to pay that kid
- 52:32$10 million. What if that kid is ass?
- 52:36Like, like seriously, that's what.
- 52:38Eventually where it's come to. But but what's eventually going
- 52:41to happen, again, rich people don't like everybody's like
- 52:45Miami's going to kill the NIL game.
- 52:48And then they sucked and that guy pulled that 10 million
- 52:50backs, like, no, no, no, you don't get my money.
- 52:56But just a few other things talk about.
- 53:01We do have a new senior director of player personnel trade near.
- 53:06He was effectively coming over from West Virginia in the same
- 53:09role, also being a recruiting assistant from the same role.
- 53:12That's Mike Villagrano's old role who left a little while
- 53:15ago. So that's been done.
- 53:17We still have director of high school relations, a director of
- 53:21recruiting, and obviously we got to know about the quarterback
- 53:26coach. We got to know what Sam going to
- 53:29do. So we're probably going to be
- 53:31back here a week from tonight because my feeling is probably
- 53:35Monday and next week everything's probably going to
- 53:38get laid out. Well, I think now that you've
- 53:40got your, your coordinators in place there, there's been
- 53:43conversations with them and, and, and Coach Pry about how
- 53:47they want that side of the ball to look from a structure
- 53:50standpoint, whether any additional hires are going to be
- 53:52brought in, whether in any additional shuffling is
- 53:56happening. It sounds like there's
- 53:57definitely still some reshuffling that's being
- 53:59discussed. So at minimum, we're going to
- 54:02see guys at least having an, a different official position next
- 54:07to their name come come spring ball.
- 54:11You know, the question is going to be how much shuffling is
- 54:13still done on offense. We know that there's at least
- 54:15going to be a little bit on defense though.
- 54:16Yep. 100% all right as y'all know we are brought to you by
- 54:20the Counts Family Pharmacy at three O 1 S Main St. in black.
- 54:25What you doing man? He heard Miami.
- 54:28He had a child. Don't see the bat signal?
- 54:32Like what the hell? Miami All right, let's talk
- 54:36about just a few more things for wrap up tonight since we hadn't
- 54:39been here for a few weeks. Literally, we talked about going
- 54:42on with Tyler Bowen let go, but it was just like, well, it's
- 54:47going to be like 10 minutes. Tally's going to rant.
- 54:49We're going to say a few things and that's it.
- 54:51He don't need to talk about it. He's gone.
- 54:53But a few things did break at at a higher level that we got to
- 54:58hit tonight. And the first big one is ESPN
- 55:02decides to extend the ACC contract that goes to 2036.
- 55:06I'm going to stop here for a second and say a few things.
- 55:092036, everybody's currently on this screen. 2036 will be 50
- 55:15years old. First of all, that's asininely
- 55:20long. We're going to be 50.
- 55:23We're all in our early 40s right now.
- 55:26That's a stupid ass long contract.
- 55:29So there's that. Now, a couple other things that
- 55:33kind of hit out here is they're saying Florida State, Clemson,
- 55:36Miami are going to play. Notre Dame won't.
- 55:38Fuck them, I don't care. Fuck my fucks.
- 55:43What the fucks all four of them? What the game more than anybody,
- 55:48You know what the ACC should have held their feet to the fire
- 55:51during COVID when they let them slide in and use the ACC to play
- 55:56in those games and play in the conference championship.
- 55:58Whatever it was, they should have held their feet to the fire
- 56:01and said either yes or no. What are you going to do?
- 56:03You ain't playing nobody this. Year, they just been just riding
- 56:07that wave. Let them do what they want to
- 56:09do. I know they got all kind of
- 56:11fucking Catholic money or whatever they got, but I don't
- 56:15know man, pick a conference or get on.
- 56:18Yeah. Kind of them hanging around.
- 56:22What you know, when you look at it, I, I think the, the problem
- 56:26that I have with it and, and new kings going to love this.
- 56:29But like my problem with the way they're structuring this is kind
- 56:33of it feels like they're, they're just appeasing the FS
- 56:38U's, the Clemson's and the Miami's for the sake of doing it
- 56:41without looking at the bigger picture.
- 56:46It's like, OK, so you got you got a couple, you got a couple
- 56:48headaches with FSU. You know, Clemson kind of jumped
- 56:51in on that. You know, when you look at that,
- 56:55the media money, I mean, one of those three and even in the top
- 56:59five in terms of media for the conference.
- 57:02So it's it's kind of wild that we're we're doing this pick
- 57:05winners and losers thing as part of this this process instead of
- 57:10just saying, hey, if if you go out there and win football
- 57:12games, you get a bigger piece of the pie.
- 57:14Right. Yeah, the other thing about that
- 57:18too, Bron, I'm going to follow a couple things here.
- 57:24First of all, Clemson and FSU are asking for less granted
- 57:27right penalties in 2031. If you are asking what's the
- 57:30significance of 20312031, every conference but the ACC, because
- 57:36John Swofford is a dipshit, is going to market.
- 57:41Now, we don't know what that's going to look like because right
- 57:43now it's all high and tidy. But we've seen it like we've
- 57:47seen sports in the past because remember the NBA used to be
- 57:51bigger ratings in football back in the day and then it fell off
- 57:56same Major League Baseball. So right now they're riding
- 57:59high. We don't know what's going to
- 58:00happen in 2031. So there's that.
- 58:05The other piece is you talked about those initiatives, Brian.
- 58:09Well, let's talk about Robbie's note real quick.
- 58:11Here. Because from a meteorite
- 58:13standpoint, if we're looking at the P2.
- 58:19Yeah. Virginia teams have a little bit
- 58:23more of a market that isn't already available in like the
- 58:26SEC than some of these schools. Yeah.
- 58:30So in in that. Markets in these area in these
- 58:33states. So there there's not that much
- 58:36inherent inherent benefit from a media rights down new kings
- 58:39pointing out bigger picture ACC is dead here and I'm throw that
- 58:42one up here. Yeah.
- 58:50Well, that's the whole thing that we're talking about with
- 58:52the the initiatives because it's not going to be a split pot like
- 58:56it is right now for the SEC in the Big 10.
- 58:59That if Clemson in Miami and Florida State are getting more
- 59:04of the pie, then they're probably not going to be $20
- 59:06million behind. They're going to be like 5 to
- 59:09$10 million around. You can survive on that.
- 59:12Yeah. It's, it's just.
- 59:13It's just. So funny as like, you know, at
- 59:14some point, like why are we basing it on names though?
- 59:18Like to Robbie's point, I mean, yeah, these three teams are are
- 59:23likely to join some sort of P4 conference just because of their
- 59:27history and and things like that.
- 59:29But if the ACC folds, at least half that conference is is going
- 59:35to be in one of the P4P2 conferences or the other.
- 59:40At the end of the day, that's what's happening.
- 59:42Four to six teams are going to be in the SEC or Big 10 when the
- 59:46ACC folds. Yeah, because this is this is
- 59:50put what bag put up there because I'm gonna, I'm gonna,
- 59:52I'm gonna counter on this because if you start saying,
- 59:56because I love what Josh Pate said, I don't just I don't agree
- 59:58with everything he says. I think he's got some good
- 1:00:01thoughts. I think he's got some dumb
- 1:00:02thoughts. But he says eventually you don't
- 1:00:04think the SEC and the Big 10 big schools are going to look over
- 1:00:07there and say to that commissioner, I'm Alabama,
- 1:00:10motherfucker, I'm getting $78,000,000 a year and freaking
- 1:00:15Vanderbilt's getting $78,000,000 a year.
- 1:00:17Screw you. You're going to start paying me.
- 1:00:19And when that happens? That's when potentially this
- 1:00:24could happen right here. Football gets too big for the
- 1:00:27conferences. Somebody comes in and says you
- 1:00:29know what, there ain't no conferences no more.
- 1:00:34We're going to put all the money into a pot and y'all going to be
- 1:00:37separate from your conferences now Greg Sankey?
- 1:00:41And what is it petty guy up in Big 10 country?
- 1:00:45They going to fight tooth and nail to say no, no we need
- 1:00:47conferences. I think, I think that's probably
- 1:00:49another drink for the listeners out.
- 1:00:51There oh whatever trying to get you all fucked up tonight, but
- 1:00:56but like that happens there will be no it's just going to be here
- 1:01:02is P4 college football. He is probably 60 teams in a
- 1:01:09play in there. Each little region, it's going
- 1:01:11to be the NFL. Here's the northeast region,
- 1:01:14here's the Mid-Atlantic region, here's the South Atlantic,
- 1:01:17here's the Deep South, here's the Ohio Valley, here's this,
- 1:01:20here's this. And it'll be like nine of them.
- 1:01:24So, but you can't do anything. But you got to talk about it
- 1:01:30because your team's sitting here and you know you're slowly going
- 1:01:34to fall behind. You're still third in the money,
- 1:01:37right? You're still third in the money,
- 1:01:41but you know, you're about $20 million off, so.
- 1:01:45We'll. See what happened, but that kind
- 1:01:47of leads to the thing Brian, you kind of got interested in was
- 1:01:50the Ross Dellinger stuff, so. Yeah.
- 1:01:55I mean, kind of looking at some highlights of that.
- 1:01:58You know, you had the house settlement, you know, it was
- 1:02:00reported on by Ross Dellinger, you know, a couple months back.
- 1:02:03We didn't really have a chance to cover it the last time, the
- 1:02:06last couple times we've been on here, yeah, we've really been
- 1:02:10kind of focused on talking about the coordinators.
- 1:02:15Yeah. So you know, there's there's a
- 1:02:18revenue, revenue sharing piece of this.
- 1:02:20You know, part of the schools, any of the schools that opt into
- 1:02:23the settlement will share a portion of their revenue with
- 1:02:26their athletes. There's going to be back pay.
- 1:02:29So 2.77 billion will be distributed over the next decade
- 1:02:33to athletes who who paid, who played from 2016 to 2024.
- 1:02:38So essentially, you know, kind of going back in that in that
- 1:02:42that time frame there, you know, with the NIL agreements,
- 1:02:46athletes will sign agreements that will guarantee compensation
- 1:02:49directly from the school. So that's a difference than what
- 1:02:53we've been kind of dealing with before with a lot of the, you
- 1:02:56know, triumphs of the world kind of negotiating inclusively but
- 1:03:02separately from the school. This is kind of bringing
- 1:03:06everything under the under the umbrella, making things a little
- 1:03:11bit more above board. So kind of taking it at a high
- 1:03:15level it it's expected to shift payments to athletes from the
- 1:03:18boosters to the schools themselves.
- 1:03:21It's expected to, you know, change how the athletes are
- 1:03:24going to be paid and it's really going to be a little bit closer
- 1:03:30to an NFL model in terms of athlete compensation.
- 1:03:34The difference being is that you're not going to see you
- 1:03:38don't have a cap and you don't have multi year agreements,
- 1:03:41right? It's still going to be a year by
- 1:03:42year, case by case situation that we kind of been dealing
- 1:03:46with, you know, since NIL has been instituted.
- 1:03:49But you're at least going to have things that are publicly
- 1:03:54available in terms of what these agreements are and how they're
- 1:03:58handled. And obviously it's going to be a
- 1:04:01a big shift in what the collectives are doing, being
- 1:04:06more of a fundraising arm or a separate fundraising arm outside
- 1:04:11of the the typical booster operations versus being the sole
- 1:04:15kind of arbiter and and distributor of the funds to the
- 1:04:18athletes. Very well spoke Brown on that
- 1:04:24because that is some high level, very technical stuff going on.
- 1:04:28The only question I have is you have to opt in.
- 1:04:32I think it's by like July to pay that.
- 1:04:36But that that guarantees the school's going to pay you.
- 1:04:39Like what do you do? I mean, there's schools all over
- 1:04:42the country, but if you're some kid at some big name school and
- 1:04:45they don't opt in because there's already those, we've
- 1:04:48seen it out there. Yeah.
- 1:04:50I was promised $300,000 and I got 50 and I never saw anything
- 1:04:54else, but I played this year. Did you sign a contract?
- 1:04:57No, sorry. You ain't getting that $250,000,
- 1:05:02kids. Do you think that write it now,
- 1:05:07Like, how does that sweat kids? Because if you go to schools,
- 1:05:12like, yeah, we're not opting in, We're still going to pay you.
- 1:05:18Like, what do you say? Like, what are you supposed to
- 1:05:20say to those kids? I mean, to me, it's you
- 1:05:22negative. Recruit the shit out of it.
- 1:05:24Yeah, and I'm, you know, and you got the whole Jaden Rashada
- 1:05:27situation that has played out over the course of.
- 1:05:31Wait a second, is that the Wisconsin guy?
- 1:05:34Or the quarterback that originally committed to Florida.
- 1:05:37Oh, oh, Oh, yeah, yeah, it's, it's crazy.
- 1:05:42Because oh, no, sorry. Miami New King.
- 1:05:44Miami. Miami.
- 1:05:46Left Miami, went up to Florida, wound up at Arizona State.
- 1:05:50Yeah, Arizona State and that and now at Georgia.
- 1:05:53And the issue was nobody paid him.
- 1:05:56We'll give you $7,000,000. No, we ain't.
- 1:05:58We're going to get you to sign. We ain't giving you shit.
- 1:06:02But again, what the whole thing is, it's moving more and more
- 1:06:06like somebody put on there like there's going to be salary caps,
- 1:06:09you know, and things like that. Payments listed as public.
- 1:06:13Someone else put that bag, put that up there.
- 1:06:15It's just, you can help me. They were just, they were
- 1:06:21getting shoe boxes full of money is what they were getting.
- 1:06:23That's how you paid kids back then.
- 1:06:25Just give them a shoe box full of money.
- 1:06:26But it's going to be interesting to see how this actually falls
- 1:06:30out because the one thing going forward is could there be a cap?
- 1:06:35Could there be a cap? Somebody put it on there like
- 1:06:41effectively like 18 million or 20 million.
- 1:06:43That's it. That's what you can pay your
- 1:06:45kids. You can't pay them no more, no
- 1:06:47less, so be very smart. All the good old days, right
- 1:06:53Josh? The good old golden Trans Am
- 1:06:57baby, it's great. All right.
- 1:07:01One last piece I wanted to hit. Just college football wise, we
- 1:07:05just went to 12 teams and now there's more discussion of
- 1:07:09expansion. If y'all have not heard,
- 1:07:12potentially going by 2026. So 2 years, 14 to 16 teams now.
- 1:07:19Right now SEC and Big 10 are trying to basically say they
- 1:07:25deserve four teams each. ACC Big 12 would get 2.
- 1:07:32Any feelings on that? I don't, I don't think you
- 1:07:35should ever lock in a number of schools outside of a single
- 1:07:39automatic bid per conference. Right I.
- 1:07:43Agree and that that applies. ACCSEC big big 10, whoever the
- 1:07:48fuck it is, you should not be booking multiple automatic bids.
- 1:07:53The number of team Like look at OK look at the number of teams
- 1:07:57we have in the NCAA tournament in March Madness and each team
- 1:08:02is still going to get one fucking guaranteed spot.
- 1:08:06So if you got a field of 64 and it's only one, why the fuck are
- 1:08:11you going to give 4 when the when the field is 14 or 16?
- 1:08:15It doesn't make any damn sense. Yeah, I agree.
- 1:08:21It it, it doesn't make sense, but I mean, the way it is it,
- 1:08:24it's the Wild West. There is nobody controlling
- 1:08:27this. It's literally conferences,
- 1:08:28getting a room. This is what we going to do.
- 1:08:30This is what we going to do. And the bad thing is the, the,
- 1:08:33the ACC, and I mean even the Big 12, I mean, they, they have
- 1:08:40essentially ceded the leverage over the last decade plus to the
- 1:08:47SEC in the Big 10, where I don't think they have enough leverage
- 1:08:52to say no for fear that they would get stuck with an even
- 1:08:57worse situation. Like they don't have a leverage
- 1:08:59to like big Dick their way into the room.
- 1:09:01No, they don't. They don't.
- 1:09:05So now with that being said, there is now discussions like
- 1:09:11all the SEC and the Big 10 are going to play every year where
- 1:09:13they can't do that because they don't have even teams.
- 1:09:16The SEC has 16, the Big 10 has 18.
- 1:09:19But let me ask you all this. I did the math.
- 1:09:23If you count Notre Dame, you have any Power Four teams?
- 1:09:25There are. We got. 68 It's an even number.
- 1:09:30Why can't y'all just figure out just let the power four teams
- 1:09:33all play each other go to non conference games, go to non
- 1:09:38conference games and you play one from each of the other
- 1:09:40conferences. It would help get rivalries back
- 1:09:43renewed. It would it would help for me
- 1:09:48bring eyes because what you can do is basically say where'd you
- 1:09:51finish last year we were second in the conference.
- 1:09:53All right, you going to play somebody in the top five of the
- 1:09:56SEC in the Big 10 or the SEC in the Big 12?
- 1:09:59You're going to play three of the top teams.
- 1:10:01Well, we sucked last year. Where you going to play the
- 1:10:03bottom? Curtis doesn't make sense.
- 1:10:07Stop trying to make too much sense here man.
- 1:10:09Make me commissioner. I've had shit happy as hell
- 1:10:12because I'd make sure every year, every year there were the
- 1:10:16big speed one out of conference game where Tally could drive
- 1:10:19less than 4 hours to go see the Hokies play.
- 1:10:21You know, I'm going to say the most low hanging fruit thing
- 1:10:23that you can right now. But what, what what is being
- 1:10:27negotiated right now? What's been negotiated, what
- 1:10:30feels like for the last, you know, decade plus is not really
- 1:10:36what's best for the game or for the fans.
- 1:10:39This is what's best for the money.
- 1:10:43That's true. And what's best for the money,
- 1:10:47unfortunately, is for SEC and Big 10 teams in the fucking
- 1:10:52playoff. That's that.
- 1:10:56That's what it is. So they don't really give a shit
- 1:11:00about whether this thing has any sort of parity.
- 1:11:04They don't care about, they don't care about long term
- 1:11:07either. They don't care about the long
- 1:11:08term money. They care about what's rolling
- 1:11:10in right now and what's rolling in right now.
- 1:11:12Is that all right? So you got 5-4 or five teams in
- 1:11:18the SEC that draw more eyes than in the entirety of the Big 12
- 1:11:23Conference or most of the ACC, right?
- 1:11:27So they want to try to get those teams in at all cost.
- 1:11:31And they looked at the Big 12 and they looked in the ACC.
- 1:11:34And they say probably best case scenario in whether this is
- 1:11:38fair, right or wrong, whatever. The AC CS probably only going to
- 1:11:42have two teams every year that can draw eyes like that, that
- 1:11:45can draw eyes in that similar ballpark.
- 1:11:48Big 12, same damn thing. So they like, we'll give you
- 1:11:53those bones because we'll take that money, but we're not going
- 1:11:55to give you any more because this ain't what it's about.
- 1:12:00Tally what you got. I think it's all stupid.
- 1:12:04I think it's all about the have and have nots.
- 1:12:08But like you said earlier, man, it's just having putting a
- 1:12:14number on it just sounds stupid to me.
- 1:12:16Are we going to get it 4 because it may not be four teams may not
- 1:12:19be deserving. You know what I'm saying?
- 1:12:21If you. Have a shit year, You're going
- 1:12:24to put four in there. That's what I.
- 1:12:25Put four in there anyway. Yeah, I.
- 1:12:27Don't think. About that everybody was and we
- 1:12:30we talked about it plenty, but everybody was talking about this
- 1:12:32year like how the games weren't good and this and that.
- 1:12:37I was like whatever man, that's just what y'all want.
- 1:12:40Everybody has a way that they're trying to play.
- 1:12:42Everybody wants to play something that's going, you
- 1:12:46know, make them feel good about something, whether it's their
- 1:12:49team or their conference or something like that.
- 1:12:52But I mean, the games have always been the games, you know,
- 1:12:56like it, like we said, you go look at the championship games,
- 1:12:59most of the time it's been a blowout as of lately or a very
- 1:13:03lopsided game. Even though this year wasn't a
- 1:13:05blowout, it was a lopsided game, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:13:09So that that just most of the time in college football, there
- 1:13:13is one team that's just better than most teams in that year.
- 1:13:17They may screw up and lose 1 game, maybe even two games, but
- 1:13:21most of the time there's a team that's just, they get it going
- 1:13:25at the right time and they just, they're going to beat whoever
- 1:13:27you put in front of them. So that's not going to change.
- 1:13:31No matter how many, how many ACCSCC, whatever schools you try
- 1:13:35to put in, sometimes you're just not going to win.
- 1:13:38Yeah, but to me it's just a number like we need, we have to
- 1:13:41have four teams and it's like, what if you are just a pile of
- 1:13:44shit conference and you put four teams in that year?
- 1:13:47It's a money grab, like. They just, they just want the
- 1:13:50money, that's all the. Money, it's got to be relative
- 1:13:52too, because I mean, you know, you can say 4, but there's going
- 1:13:57to be 4 good teams in the SEC every year, right?
- 1:14:01It's just good teams. Not not saying deserving teams
- 1:14:04relative to the other conference, but there's going to
- 1:14:05be 4 good teams in the SEC every year.
- 1:14:08But when you got to look at it relative to the rest of the
- 1:14:11competition, that's why that exists.
- 1:14:14You can't just say flat out will you get four teams in regardless
- 1:14:16because you know you're bringing the most money and you've got
- 1:14:20the best players. Like at some point we got to
- 1:14:23say, OK, I get that this is about putting the best teams in
- 1:14:27the playoff, but it's about putting the best teams that earn
- 1:14:30the spot into the playoff, not just putting teams in.
- 1:14:34Because they still matter. Like we're not, we're not
- 1:14:36simming a a dynasty on fucking NCAA here.
- 1:14:40Like at some point you, you got to play the fucking games.
- 1:14:44Well, the, the, what's going, this is what's going to happen
- 1:14:46and this is what's going to snap.
- 1:14:47It is. There's going to be some year
- 1:14:50there's going to be some SEC team that plays three good out
- 1:14:53of conference, goes one and two and out of conference and wins
- 1:14:56like 6 and one inside and they're going to be 8 and four.
- 1:14:59Like they won the SEC and you're like that motherfucker won eight
- 1:15:03games like they. Makes a good point here too.
- 1:15:07The games were good. They should have been spaced out
- 1:15:09better. And the whole thing is people
- 1:15:12were like, well, you know, some of those games were blowouts.
- 1:15:14And it's just like, that's football.
- 1:15:17That's just football. The NFL has charity.
- 1:15:20Well, well, let's look at the NFL this year.
- 1:15:22That week one wild card had a bunch of dog shit games, except
- 1:15:27Washington and Tampa Bay. They were awful.
- 1:15:31They were awful to watch. Even the second weekend wasn't
- 1:15:34that interesting. And that's a league with parity
- 1:15:36that drafts, that chooses their own players.
- 1:15:38They can cut anybody at any time.
- 1:15:40Yep. And, and also, I mean, you had a
- 1:15:43blowout in the Super Bowl. And I think regardless of what
- 1:15:46you feel about Kansas City and the referees, nobody thought
- 1:15:49that Kansas City didn't fucking belong in that game.
- 1:15:52And they got smashed. So that's why you play the
- 1:15:57games. And that's why these everybody
- 1:15:58that says, well, these teams just don't have a shot.
- 1:16:02They don't have a shot. No, do not have a shot is to not
- 1:16:05get a chance to play a game. That's the day you take shots
- 1:16:08off the table because nobody gave Arizona State a chance
- 1:16:12against Texas. That game was supposed to be,
- 1:16:13what was it, 11 1/2 point line? That game was supposed to be a
- 1:16:16blowout. That's the most entertaining
- 1:16:18game all year. But it but but reality.
- 1:16:23We should have had Ole Miss in there, right?
- 1:16:25We should have had that. They really they were a better
- 1:16:27team than Arizona State this year.
- 1:16:29Right. Yeah, we we said old Miss or
- 1:16:31Alabama should have been in there.
- 1:16:33Really. No.
- 1:16:34No, no. So you know.
- 1:16:37And the only thing I like that has come out of this is that I
- 1:16:40agree that re racking the seating would have helped what
- 1:16:44we dealt with significantly significantly.
- 1:16:50And the automatic, the automatic bid shouldn't necessarily
- 1:16:54guarantee you that buy. Yeah.
- 1:16:57Now I don't necessarily, you know, I, I think if you win a
- 1:17:00conference, you know, let's have some discussions about if you're
- 1:17:04not in the top four, that you get to automatically host that
- 1:17:07game, right? That that could be a
- 1:17:08conversation that you have so you don't end up with your
- 1:17:11conference champion potentially hosting a team from their own
- 1:17:16conference that they just beat on a neutral site, right.
- 1:17:21So that so that's a fucked up scenario.
- 1:17:23That's a fucked up scenario, But a a better scenario is that you
- 1:17:25still rank them. You give the buys to who the
- 1:17:29buys belong to. After that, if they're still
- 1:17:31conference champions that didn't get that by you, at least give
- 1:17:35them that that five to to 8 slot.
- 1:17:38Well, I think what's the, the, the big thing that might come
- 1:17:41out of this whole rear act of the playoff is a conference.
- 1:17:47I think conference championship weekend is probably going to go
- 1:17:50away. It's going to probably go away.
- 1:17:55Robbie, we get it. We got it, Robbie.
- 1:17:58Yeah, Oregon did say please receive.
- 1:18:00But the conference champion, because the discussions is if
- 1:18:03they do what they want to do, which I think it's going to come
- 1:18:06to fruition. And what you're going to have
- 1:18:09basically is like for the SEC in the Big 10, their top two teams
- 1:18:14are in the playoff and they're going to basically say 4-5 and
- 1:18:17six. You're going to play each other.
- 1:18:19The ACC, your top teams in the playoff, your two and three
- 1:18:23teams are going to play to see who gets in.
- 1:18:25Now that would probably make conference championship or
- 1:18:28Thanksgiving weekend super intriguing.
- 1:18:32But to me, you want to do anything, guarantee the the four
- 1:18:36big conferences, 2 spots each conference, regular season
- 1:18:40champion in play in games, and then figure out the rest.
- 1:18:45Because I'm not against, because the one thing I like is good
- 1:18:47games. I think I think this season also
- 1:18:50made the case against conference championship games.
- 1:18:54Yeah, in general, just screwed. Screwed Oregon, benefited Penn
- 1:18:59State, who else in a way. Well, Carson Beck got hurt so
- 1:19:06didn't really screw him. Although Texas got the easier
- 1:19:11match up on New Year's Day, technically.
- 1:19:15Yeah. So it's all sorts of wild stuff.
- 1:19:18And to me, I think what they're about to do, and this is my
- 1:19:23opinion, it's an Invitational. It's not a playoff format
- 1:19:27anymore because you are literally saying, oh, you,
- 1:19:29you're guaranteed. You're guaranteed in playoffs.
- 1:19:32There are no guarantees. There aren't tally.
- 1:19:36Your son played in the basketball playoffs, y'all.
- 1:19:40Y'all weren't guaranteed a spot where y'all's conference wasn't
- 1:19:43guaranteed a spot in there. No, y'all had a play I got.
- 1:19:47To go play man, got to play the game.
- 1:19:51And, and, and eventually if you ask me what the demise of
- 1:19:54college football or the casual fan will be, it's effectively
- 1:19:58people are going to start looking at it and it's not
- 1:20:01anybody on this call right here. We like college football.
- 1:20:03We have our team, we watch other games as well.
- 1:20:07But the casual fan who won't watch anybody but their team,
- 1:20:11who will turn the Saturday night game on and watch it or to 4:30
- 1:20:15to 3:30, if you lose them with this dumb shit, that's when the
- 1:20:20bottom falls out. And it's going to be everybody's
- 1:20:23going to be begging for money, everybody.
- 1:20:26So yeah, Kyle, you've been looking.
- 1:20:29Hardest computer there. What?
- 1:20:30What is it the Lakers on? Yeah, the Lakers is on, but I
- 1:20:33thought I just been looking at different stats and all types of
- 1:20:37stuff. Like the the 247 thing really
- 1:20:39intrigued me about Montgomery. I didn't pay attention to it
- 1:20:43until just now. Just I mean, they they got a lot
- 1:20:46of stuff in there. I got a deep dive and look at
- 1:20:48what they were just talking about.
- 1:20:50I think it's called the seven. I think it's like labeled the
- 1:20:53seven differences of from Bowen to Montgomery.
- 1:20:58I've just been paying attention to that.
- 1:21:01It's a lot of stats in there. That's like, OK, I'm interested,
- 1:21:05man. I'm interested just to see
- 1:21:06what's going to happen and to see what what's route we're
- 1:21:10going to go and then when somebody's going to tell pry,
- 1:21:13hey man, what you doing is fucking dumb.
- 1:21:15Let's do something different. There you go.
- 1:21:17Well, again, I, I, I've said this three or four times, Tally.
- 1:21:21He's already decided to do that himself because it takes stones
- 1:21:26to fire people. It also takes stones because he
- 1:21:29literally brought in someone with a hell of a lot more
- 1:21:32experience and a lot of times that don't happen.
- 1:21:36So yeah, But I can't wait till you.
- 1:21:39It's going to be about what time is it right now, 10:00, Give me
- 1:21:4312 hours. Tally's going to be sending us
- 1:21:46all these stuff. He's looking up and found and
- 1:21:48said look at this, look at this. Yeah.
- 1:21:50And I love it because that's the way it's supposed to be.
