- 0:11Yeah, our number three. Hello, ruminators near and far. Thanks so
- 0:19much for making time. We appreciate it. Don't take it for granted.
- 0:24Ever, He's grand. I'm Preston. It's the Morning Show with Preston Scott.
- 0:28Great to be with you, and please stand back with US. US
- 0:31congress Woman Cat Camick, Florida's third congressional district. How's the campaign going,
- 0:35Kat Well, I wouldn't know. I'm up here in Washington, d C.
- 0:41Back at it again. Yeah, let's talk about that. You laughed.
- 0:47Is that one of those laughs that we laugh when we're just trying to
- 0:51keep from crying. Absolutely. I mean, I think if you look at
- 0:57the state of affairs today or who you are or what your job is,
- 1:00it is clear that we are worse off today than we were four years ago.
- 1:06And it's just so sad how quickly things can fall apart when you have
- 1:11the resident in chief rather than a true commander in chief. So we are
- 1:17basically working to pick up the pieces and put the House and the Senate in
- 1:22a position that's going to be great for when President Trump gets back and we
- 1:26can get right to work, because we will have four years if you really
- 1:30think about it, only two really where we can do significant work in getting
- 1:36this country back on track. How important is it kat that we do this
- 1:42the right way as opposed to a bunch of executive orders. I mean,
- 1:47I think that's what we're seeing play out right now. If you have so
- 1:52many of the incredible things that President Trump did, they were done via executive
- 1:57order, which means it's not codified. And when it's not, meaning the
- 2:00Senate and the House don't come together and actually make it law, then it
- 2:06just goes away because the minute that the administration turns over, as we have
- 2:10seen, the first thing that the incoming president does if he overturns all those
- 2:15executive orders, and we saw how smug Alejandro Majorcis, the Secretary of Homeland
- 2:21Security, was when he bragged about we took ninety one executive orders off the
- 2:25books that President Trump had had put on the books in order to secure the
- 2:30order. I mean, it's it's the reason why the founders envisioned Article on
- 2:37the way they did where the People's House had the most power, because then
- 2:42it was a lasting impact. It was deliberate, it was thoughtful, and
- 2:45it was long lasting. This four years eight year turnovers that we're dealing with
- 2:51it sends ripples through the industry, through our economy, through the world.
- 2:57No one can plan on anything except for uncertain and tee in the current system
- 3:00that we have. So getting back to regular order is a very, very
- 3:04big deal. The new problem that I'm seeing come up though with the Resident
- 3:08of the United States is that even when issues are settled legally, i e.
- 3:13The Supreme Court student loans, Yeah, he continues to I think,
- 3:17break the law and flout his authority. And we're seeing this continuation. So
- 3:24how do we stop that? I mean, clearly the way to do that
- 3:30is you impeach them, or you or you exsert the power of the purse.
- 3:34And at this point, the House is not doing what it needs to
- 3:38do to exert the power of the purse and wield the power of the purse.
- 3:43And we don't have a willing partner in the Senate because they just stop
- 3:46everything. They let we'll send things over and then they just sit on them.
- 3:51And you know, we're getting ready to go into another appropriation season.
- 3:55And I was in a meeting last night and we were going through some strategy
- 4:00about this, and there's talk again once again about a cr and the fact
- 4:05that you have so called conservative saying we should do a cr makes my blood
- 4:12boil. I know for sure people in Florida did not send their representatives to
- 4:16Washington to just put a rubber stamp on Nancy Pelosi's policies and spending. I
- 4:21sures Hexton and the notion that we're just going to see r it again is
- 4:27absolutely ludicrous to me because what they don't realize is they're saying this because they
- 4:31think they're going to get a one percent cut in there is that it actually
- 4:34cuts because it's based on twenty three levels. Twenty twenty three levels, it
- 4:40will cut defense, and it will actually increase discretionary spending. Why would in
- 4:45the world would we ever give more money to Biden's government of doj FBI,
- 4:50DOE, both coees, EPA, Oh Show. Why would we ever do
- 4:55that? That makes no sense. But I think there's a sense here that
- 4:58people care more about getting back to the campaign trail and actually doing the work
- 5:01they were hired to do. Whether you're listening on an old radio in your
- 5:04car truck or streaming on one of those other things, yes, even that
- 5:10John Deere tractor. Thanks for joining us. It's the morning show with Presdon
- 5:14Scott's on news radio one hundred point seven DOUBFLA or on NewsRadio DOUBFLA Panama City
- 5:21dot Com. She represents a lot of the central portion of the Sunshine State,
- 5:29Florida's third congressional district. US Congresswoman Kat Camick with us. She's kind
- 5:33enough to make time once a month to talk over things. Kat. I'm
- 5:39I'm puzzled because I'm not convinced that if Republicans take the House and the Senate,
- 5:46they're going to be anything but an obstructionist to President Trump, assuming he
- 5:51gets re elected. There's just this insiders club that seems to exist. I
- 5:58think Kevin McCarthy was part of it. I thought Paul Ryan was part of
- 6:01it. I thought John Bayner, Mitch McConnell, they're all part of this
- 6:04little club with Pelosi, Schumer and the others. How do we break this
- 6:10cycle? Because I had high hopes for Mike Johnson, but it just doesn't
- 6:14seem like he's got the will to do what's necessary to move the pendulum the
- 6:18other way. Yeah, it's such a weird dynamic, and I now having
- 6:27been here for three years, I see that it is. It's no longer
- 6:30Republicans versus Democrats. And you know, then you take it one step further
- 6:35and it's certainly a dynamic of advocates for big government versus little government. And
- 6:42listen of the Republicans, I can tell you that there are very few of
- 6:46us little government conservatives. Yeah, we have people in the so called conservative
- 6:54movement that advocate for some of the biggest government programs ever. And I mean
- 6:59it makes you you're head, I want to explode. If I had to
- 7:00liken it to anything, it would be coalition government. It almost feels like
- 7:06you have three or four, maybe five factions in the Republican conference and then
- 7:12you've got three or four in the Democrat caucus. And so the question becomes,
- 7:17then how do you effectively get something done in coalition government? And that's
- 7:24really really difficult. And as of course we've seen that this cycle, all
- 7:28bets are off. You know, we're breaking records left right and center for
- 7:30you know, unprecedented things happening. And I will say it makes very strange
- 7:36bedfellows. You know, you start seeing where if you were to pull up
- 7:40how many the Florida's delegation, for example, and who votes the least amount
- 7:46of time with Joe Biden versus who votes the most amount of time with Joe
- 7:47Biden. I think people would be shocked I vote the least amount of time
- 7:51with Joe Biden. But then there's other people that are like, wait,
- 7:55why is this person voting with Joe Biden ten twelve percent of the time,
- 8:00Like it makes no sense. And so I think you have to take it
- 8:03from the position of each vote and how it lands. And the dynamics up
- 8:11here are becoming very much a decentralized nature. And you've heard me say before,
- 8:16Preston, we're living through the era of entertainment where people up here are
- 8:20more concerned about giving off the perception that they're fighting than actually fighting, because
- 8:26it all comes back to I'm gonna go out there, I'm gonna fight for
- 8:28you, and I'm going to use that to raise campaign cash. Yeah,
- 8:31it's disgusting how much pressure is on you, Kat. I mean when you
- 8:37first got elected. I have heard other freshman lawmakers say, and I won't
- 8:43name them, but that the speaker or the majority leader or sorry, the
- 8:48minority leader at the time would almost immediately call them in and say, now
- 8:54get busy raising money. Oh yeah, without a doubt. I mean,
- 9:00and if that you get up here, you are given an assessment, and
- 9:03that's the actual term they use. They give you an assessment. And the
- 9:07assessment is how much you owe the Republican Party for being a part of the
- 9:16crew, right, and it's if you're a freshman, you owe about one
- 9:18hundred and seventy five thousand dollars. If you get on a good committee you
- 9:22owe four hundred and twenty five thousand dollars, and if you're in leadership,
- 9:28you owe a million plus. And when you say, oh, you mean
- 9:31raising funds, yes, if you have to go raise that money, and
- 9:37then you have to give that to the NRCC, the National Republican Congressional Committee.
- 9:43And if you don't, you don't get gabbles, you don't get chairmanship,
- 9:46subcommittee chairmanships, you don't get your bills brought to the floor. It's
- 9:52it is absolutely a pay to play set up, and the Democrats to do
- 9:56it too. How incestuous is the relationship between the National Congressional Republican Caucus whatever
- 10:01you call it, and the party itself. So they're in the same building,
- 10:09yeah, I mean, they're all in the same building. And the
- 10:13thing that's frustrating is we tend like you go into that building and you see
- 10:22the separation of the level. So the top level is the National Party,
- 10:24the third floor is the Senate, the Senate side, the second floor is
- 10:28the House, and then the first floors you know, just like meeting rooms
- 10:33and whatever. And there's really no communication between the three levels. And when
- 10:39people raise money for the party, they're not raising money for the RN's either
- 10:43raising money for the congressional side right, and so the right arm is not
- 10:48talking to the left arm. So what ends up happening is a growth miscalculation
- 10:54of where resources need to be going. And that's something that I have repeated
- 11:00said needs to be fixed, because how are we ever expected to win elections
- 11:03if we're pumping money into one area of the country or one race and then
- 11:09we're not doing anything in another one and we're just missing opportunities. That's a
- 11:11big problem. We also don't ballot chase. We don't, we don't we
- 11:15don't follow up on ballot chasing. We let the Dems just run roughshot over
- 11:20us. And that's really really frustrating, and it comes to the expense of
- 11:24again election w f l A at W f l a fam dot com,
- 11:28on your phone with the iHeartRadio app and on hundreds of devices like Alexa,
- 11:31Google Home, Xbox, and Sonos and Iheart's radio station. Final segment,
- 11:41US Congress Roman Cat Camick here on The Morning Show with Preston Scott. All
- 11:46Right, the anti Semitism Bill. I'm sure you've seen the criticism Cat that
- 11:52this, because of its language and where it got some of its guidance,
- 11:58does place the Bible in the crosshairs of being considered anti Semitic. Yeah.
- 12:05I mean, I've heard some of the criticisms about it, and I fundamentally
- 12:11disagree with them. The fact of the matter is that this is exactly the
- 12:16same language as Trump's executive order from when he was president, and people who
- 12:22are being very outspoken against it, who claim to be Trump supporters are not
- 12:28recognizing that they're actually speaking out against Trump's executive order. But was that executive
- 12:33order correct? I mean, you know what I'm driving at. Yeah.
- 12:39Yeah, And just because Trump did it, you know, it doesn't mean
- 12:41that it gets you know, a free pass. So I did my homework.
- 12:46I actually consulted with one of the foremost constitutional lawyers who argues before the
- 12:52Supreme Court often and you know, they did a full deep dive analysis on
- 12:58it. And when you read the bill and this is this is what this
- 13:01is one of the reasons that I voted for it. One, you take
- 13:03a stand. You know, hate speech is hate speech. It doesn't mean
- 13:07that, you know, you can censor someone because they're saying something you don't
- 13:13like, you know, right, I think as a constitutional conservative, we
- 13:16have to fundamentally protect the Constitution at all costs. And this Act is consistent
- 13:22with the First Amendment. It says in the bill, nothing in the fact
- 13:26or an amendment made by this Act shall be construed to diminish or infringe upon
- 13:33any rights protected under the First Amendment. And absolutely people have the right to
- 13:37free speech. The minute that you begin infringing on someone else's rights is where
- 13:45yours end. That's why we have criminal laws. Right the minute that you
- 13:50start beating the ever living crap out of someone that is not protected right,
- 13:54that's not constitutionally protected right. And so the fact that it has language in
- 13:58there that reaffirms that the Constitution is absolute, that nothing in the Act could
- 14:05be construed to override the First Amendment. And furthermore, goes on to say
- 14:11that that saving the savings clause states a tourism right, that no statute can
- 14:20diminish a constitutional right. You go on to think about, has there ever
- 14:24been a statue that has trumped the constitution. No, the Constitution always trumps
- 14:31a statute. So we we were talking about this in the first segment,
- 14:35presson about how the courts right, the courts will make a ruling if this
- 14:41were ever to come to pass, which we're living in crazy times right where
- 14:45someone said I'm going to sue under this ass under this statute, and it
- 14:50made it all its way, all the way to the Supreme Court. Without
- 14:52a doubt, I think you'd get a nine oz ruling that it does not
- 14:58because it is absolutely defined in the language of the bill itself. And keep
- 15:03in mind, I serve with a lot of people who don't read the bills,
- 15:05like they absolutely don't read the bills. Bless their hearts that you know,
- 15:13it's just it's a frustrating thing of being up here. But no,
- 15:16nothing in the Act can override the Constitution. And so let me ask you
- 15:20this and let me let me finish this. So I heard from a colleague
- 15:24who we were debating this and He said, well, you know this is
- 15:28going to give people, This is going to give the government an expansion of
- 15:31powers. I said, no, it doesn't. It actually gives the court
- 15:35an ability if it is and this is and this is strictly under Title six,
- 15:39so this is under education. Right, So we're looking at this through
- 15:43the lens of these universities are saying, well, there's nothing we can do.
- 15:48We don't have anything that we can sink our teeth into to protect our
- 15:52Jewish students on campus, or any students for that matter. Right, this
- 15:56is really just giving the courts an ability you smack down on college campuses,
- 16:03all of the things that are happening. That is nothing to do with people
- 16:07in churches. And the notion that this is somehow making the Bible illegal.
- 16:11Listen, I recognize that there is. And you heard me say it again
- 16:18a thousand times. Entertainment. Nothing gets people more riled up than on social
- 16:22media somebody saying, oh, the Bible is now illegal according to the House
- 16:26representative. That is such bs. I almost said it all the whole way
- 16:30through, so I cleaned it up for you. See, it's a future
- 16:32some button. But that is such nonsense, absolute nonsense, and it's just
- 16:37a scheme to get people to click on your stupid link and then they'll ask
- 16:42you for money. And it's just the entertainment outrage that these people have found
- 16:47such a glory and objecting to every little thing there's not glory, and watching
- 16:52your country go down the drain because you're more focused on raising money for your
- 16:56organization or your campaign. Get out of here with that nonsense. All right,
- 17:00We're gonna have to leave it there, Kat, thanks very much.
- 17:02We'll talk again next month. Appreciate you. Thank you, all right,
- 17:06Kat cam At, US congresswoman from the third Congressional District here in the Morning
- 17:10Show with Preston Scott
