Latest / Hurdle with Emily Abbate / 5-MINUTE FRIDAY: It's All Going To Be Just Fine
Transcript
- 0:21Speaker 1: Hey, everyone, Emily Abadi here you are listening to five
- 0:24Speaker 1: Minute Friday from Hurdle. Oh my goodness. I had a week.
- 0:29Speaker 1: I had a week that candidly was full of a
- 0:33Speaker 1: lot of frustrating moments. By the end of the day
- 0:37Speaker 1: on Wednesday, I was just like, what is happening here?
- 0:44Speaker 1: It's like often we hear that quote unquote bad things
- 0:48Speaker 1: come in threes, and I believe that by the end
- 0:52Speaker 1: of Wednesday, I was at at least five things that
- 0:56Speaker 1: weren't exactly stellar. And one of those things this is
- 1:02Speaker 1: a PSA for anyone who may be wearing a long
- 1:07Speaker 1: dress this summer, don't do it while riding a city bike.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Because after having a bit of a rough day, I
- 1:15Speaker 1: decided that I was going to take myself out to dinner.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And I got to.
- 1:21Speaker 1: The street via bike that the restaurant was on, and
- 1:26Speaker 1: about half a block away, my dress got tangled up
- 1:30Speaker 1: in the gears of the bike. I had to drag
- 1:33Speaker 1: the bike off to the side because the wheel couldn't
- 1:35Speaker 1: spin because my dress was in the gears. I'm connected
- 1:38Speaker 1: to the bike. A friend of mine that lived a
- 1:41Speaker 1: half a block away came, then her husband came with
- 1:45Speaker 1: scissors and cut me out of the bike.
- 1:48Speaker 2: Yeah, like, these.
- 1:49Speaker 1: Are the kinds of things, and I am just like
- 1:52Speaker 1: raising my fists at the universe, and I'm like, what
- 1:55Speaker 1: did I do to deserve this this week? But I digress.
- 1:59Speaker 1: So fast forward to Thursday morning. I am up quite
- 2:04Speaker 1: early because I am heading to Eugene for the Olympic
- 2:10Speaker 1: Track and Field Trials, and I want to get in
- 2:13Speaker 1: my workout before I get on the plane.
- 2:15Speaker 2: And so I go do my workout. It feels great.
- 2:20Speaker 1: I'm running back and it feels like a movie montage.
- 2:26Speaker 1: I'm running. The run feels effortless. I feel like a
- 2:30Speaker 1: soft breeze coming at me from the west. And in
- 2:35Speaker 1: this moment, the endorphins really hit and I realize that
- 2:40Speaker 1: all the things that I've been so stressed about, not
- 2:44Speaker 1: that my feelings aren't or weren't valid, they were entitled
- 2:50Speaker 1: to all of the fields. But I realized in this moment,
- 2:54Speaker 1: during this really wonderful running scene, that everything is right.
- 3:01Speaker 1: And so often when you're wrapped up in the thick
- 3:05Speaker 1: of a situation that is not as you had hoped,
- 3:09Speaker 1: it is natural to spiral a little bit, to let
- 3:13Speaker 1: the things pile on, to feel as if there is
- 3:17Speaker 1: no winning. But what I realized in this moment was
- 3:21Speaker 1: that not only is everything fine, but really the things
- 3:25Speaker 1: that I was just so beyond about, like life is
- 3:29Speaker 1: going to be okay. I am okay, and these things
- 3:32Speaker 1: again my feelings, they are and they were valid, but
- 3:37Speaker 1: there's so many bigger things in life. And I needed
- 3:40Speaker 1: that moment because it really did feel like things were
- 3:42Speaker 1: piling up. It really did feel like I was underwater
- 3:47Speaker 1: that I couldn't really breathe. And I finally stopped after
- 3:53Speaker 1: having my movie moment near the front of my building,
- 3:57Speaker 1: and I took a deep breath, and I just remember
- 4:01Speaker 1: that it's all going to be okay.
- 4:03Speaker 2: It's all going to be okay. This is why we
- 4:05Speaker 2: work out right, to.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Remind ourselves that we are both capable, that we can
- 4:09Speaker 1: do hard things. I also work out because I like
- 4:11Speaker 1: the way that it feels in my body. I love
- 4:14Speaker 1: wearing workout clothes. They're comfortable, you get the vibes. It's
- 4:20Speaker 1: not that serious anyway. My thought prompt for you this
- 4:24Speaker 1: week is what are you maybe overdoing for yourself? What
- 4:29Speaker 1: is one thing that you can let go of today
- 4:32Speaker 1: that you will be better for Give yourself permission to
- 4:36Speaker 1: do that. Yeah, what is one thing that you can
- 4:39Speaker 1: let go of today that you will be better for?
- 4:43Speaker 2: And now a listener question.
- 4:46Speaker 3: Hi Emily, I'm Kate from Kentucky. I'm new to the
- 4:49Speaker 3: podcast and loving it, but was hoping you could go
- 4:52Speaker 3: back a little bit. What encouraged you to start the
- 4:55Speaker 3: podcast and why do you keep going?
- 4:59Speaker 2: First of all, thanks for being a new hurdler.
- 5:02Speaker 1: Please anyone that's listening to this, the more hurdlers the better,
- 5:06Speaker 1: So share it with a friend, share it on your
- 5:08Speaker 1: social media, just spread the good word. I started Hurdle
- 5:14Speaker 1: because I was in the midst of a difficult personal
- 5:17Speaker 1: hurdle and I was sitting on the couch with a
- 5:20Speaker 1: girlfriend and I said the words, I just so desperately
- 5:22Speaker 1: want to get over this hurdle.
- 5:24Speaker 2: And it was in that moment.
- 5:25Speaker 1: I had an idea for a podcast previously, but when
- 5:28Speaker 1: those words came out of my mouth, I knew kind
- 5:32Speaker 1: of exactly where I wanted to go with it. I
- 5:36Speaker 1: knew that it would be my opportunity to talk to
- 5:42Speaker 1: people within the health, wellness fitness space. And I knew,
- 5:46Speaker 1: at the time I was a freelance journalist, that it
- 5:48Speaker 1: would be my opportunity to own something that I didn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: have to pitch other people my ideas that hurdle could
- 5:54Speaker 1: be my thing. And so when I checked and no
- 5:56Speaker 1: one else had a podcast under this name, Immediate trademarked
- 6:01Speaker 1: it and then I ran with it. And so it
- 6:03Speaker 1: started off as a bi weekly podcast at the very
- 6:07Speaker 1: top of twenty eighteen. Now it comes out twice a week.
- 6:11Speaker 1: At one point it came out three times a week.
- 6:13Speaker 1: I've got listeners in two hundred and twenty plus countries,
- 6:16Speaker 1: and so many of you that have reached out to
- 6:19Speaker 1: me and connected with me and loved what it is
- 6:22Speaker 1: that I'm creating, and it just it truly means the
- 6:25Speaker 1: world to me. Why I keep doing it is because
- 6:28Speaker 1: I know that no matter how big or small it is,
- 6:32Speaker 1: I have the opportunity to leave an impact. And creating
- 6:35Speaker 1: this show has enabled me to do so many other
- 6:37Speaker 1: things that excite me. The hosting, the moderating, the facilitating.
- 6:41Speaker 1: It has encouraged me on my journey of education. I'm
- 6:44Speaker 1: still a certified trainer and a run coach, and a
- 6:46Speaker 1: certified professional coach and a Level one Precision nutrition coach,
- 6:49Speaker 1: and I get all of this continuing education because I
- 6:52Speaker 1: want to make sure that I can speak to the
- 6:55Speaker 1: people that come on the show, not only with my
- 6:57Speaker 1: own level of knowledge, but all so to make sure
- 7:00Speaker 1: that what they're telling me is safe so that I
- 7:03Speaker 1: can then bring it to you. So again, the why here,
- 7:07Speaker 1: The why is because it feels right and it feels good.
- 7:10Speaker 1: And as long as it keeps feeling right and good
- 7:13Speaker 1: and I have the opportunity to help someone somewhere, I'm
- 7:17Speaker 1: going to keep hurdling, and I hope that you do too.
- 7:20Speaker 1: I'm over at Emily a Body and at hurdle podcasts
- 7:22Speaker 1: on social Another hurdle conquered.
- 7:26Speaker 2: Catch you guys, next time.
