- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Welcome everybody to the next episode of the Mobilization Mindset.
- 0:19SPEAKER_01: My name is Scott Pieper, CEO and founder of Mobilization Funding, and today we are going to be talking about our October cash flow event.
- 0:27SPEAKER_01: Drew and I are here to kick through exactly what we're going to be talking about, why you might want to consider coming, who's going to be here, our favorite guest host, Ben Holmgren.
- 0:40SPEAKER_01: He's got a great group.
- 0:41SPEAKER_01: He's got a great guest.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: Scott Kimplin's going to be here.
- 0:45SPEAKER_01: Suzanne Bach, and also our good friend Herb Sargent.
- 0:52SPEAKER_01: Jump into this with us.
- 0:53SPEAKER_01: We're going to talk about it.
- 0:54SPEAKER_01: You can find out all kinds of information and even see what the October cash flow event looked like last year on our website at mobilizationfunding.com and our YouTube channel Mobilization Funding.
- 1:05SPEAKER_01: Drew, let's get it.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: Dude, we've got some pretty experienced folks in the room.
- 1:09SPEAKER_00: And some legends.
- 1:11SPEAKER_01: What's exciting you the most about what we're going to do?
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: I think personally I'm most excited about me.
- 1:18SPEAKER_00: I've met Herb a couple times.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: I mean, you guys just wrote a book together.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: He's been in the office a couple times.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: He's got a presence about him.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: I mean, you just he walks into a room and you just kind of know he's seen it.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: He's been through it.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: And I'm excited about really sitting down, listening to him, learning from him, and kind of seeing the attendees in the construction space, what kind of questions they ask him.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm really excited about seeing.
- 1:40SPEAKER_01: So we got a great group too.
- 1:43SPEAKER_01: Of the guests that are already coming, it's a pretty good mix of the dirt world, but also other contractors.
- 1:49SPEAKER_01: Nice mix of size companies, whether it's people or revenue, depending on what you want to measure.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: But the main focus is how do you drive more profitability in your construction business?
- 2:02SPEAKER_01: What do you think is going to be the one or two things that people are going to come out of that with that can really move the needle?
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I think number one is we see this over and over and over again, and we've done a couple of workshops, but you know, most of the companies that come in here are profitable.
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: Right?
- 2:20SPEAKER_00: They're they're running a profit on paper, but they're not feeling it.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: And I'm excited about Scott Kemplin, Herb really talking through the mechanics of jobs, the mechanics of bidding jobs, the mechanics of the pro gross profit on jobs, and how important that expected profit versus that actual profit is on those jobs, how it affects the actual cash flow itself.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And we all know that profit and cash don't equal the same thing.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: But maintaining favorable margins on jobs and how to actually execute that, I mean, that has a that plays an incredibly important role.
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I think people are gonna find out nuances, little tips and tricks of the trade around managing your labor.
- 3:01SPEAKER_01: Managing your labor when the when you have a consistent payroll, you have a ton of employees, and then it dips in production or dips in when construction's gonna start or dips in project productivity, managing the efficiency to that.
- 3:16SPEAKER_01: You're gonna find a lot of tips and tricks in that.
- 3:19SPEAKER_01: I also think the other big thing people are gonna come out of, the other kind of driver to cash on the bottom line, is measuring your overhead, your overhead allocation to each job, tracking it, paying attention to it, being able to guide to it so that you can actually really deliver on not only the overall profitability of the cost of goods sold, labor and material and equipment on the job, true job costs, but when you layer in that extra amount of overhead and you don't know or how to track that per job or per the schedule and flow, that's where a lot of things get missed and you just get hurt.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and above and beyond taxes, Suzanne Bach really can go into what is cost, what does overhead cost allocation look like?
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's a very difficult type of accounting, but there are systems that are repeatable that she will be able to illustrate on a board.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: I can help with that a little bit as well, but in practice, Herb can validate, right?
- 4:16SPEAKER_00: You have the whole continuum in this October cash flow.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: You have, you know, a tax accountant, you have CFO accounts, you have us who do lending and cash flow, are you know experts in that space, but then you have it being validated by someone like Herb and Scott.
- 4:31SPEAKER_00: I mean, that's a unique opportunity.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:33SPEAKER_01: In one room, you're gonna be able to access more than 200 years of information across hundreds and hundreds of companies.
- 4:42SPEAKER_01: One, you have Herb who who's run a company now for many decades.
- 4:47SPEAKER_01: The company itself is over a hundred years old.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: She's written a number of books, including the one we're sitting here.
- 4:52SPEAKER_01: Inside this book is a pile of chapters on exactly some of those lessons.
- 4:57SPEAKER_01: On top of that, then you're gonna hear from Scott Kimpling who has seen the financials and helped execute with some of the greatest and best of the best businesses, subcontractors at all levels in construction.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: How many times have we sat down with Scott Kemplin and just walked away?
- 5:13SPEAKER_01: We're like I mean, if you want to get a little taste of that, watch the podcast we did with him.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:18SPEAKER_01: It's phenomenal.
- 5:19SPEAKER_01: He touches on all those things and you can jump right into it.
- 5:22SPEAKER_01: We'll put the episode on that in the show notes if you want to check it out.
- 5:25SPEAKER_01: And then in addition to that, I think when you look at it with our team, when you and I are speaking, or folks from our team come in and we're looking at cash flows, and we're just taking the the overall amount of information that we've seen from the different financials that we've run, the businesses we've helped, the amount of projects we've seen, you're just gonna be able to layer as an attendee, you're gonna have a layer of reps that you in two days that you just can't replicate over the course of let alone two days, but let alone 10 years of experience.
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: And even if you walk away with one little nugget on thing you can do for your business inside a small group from those that group, and then we'll be able to build cash flows in real time, bring a project.
- 6:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we'll be able to do that.
- 6:08SPEAKER_01: So October 21st and 22nd here in Tampa.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Check out the website.
- 6:16SPEAKER_01: You can also find it, you can check it out.
- 6:18SPEAKER_01: You can find out the website for the summit, the cash flow, whatever you want to call it, the cash flow seminar on our website, or you can also find it here in the show notes, depending on where you're listening to this.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: Before we sign off, I want to do a little shout out.
- 6:34SPEAKER_00: Thank you.
- 6:43SPEAKER_01: It's one of a hundred of them, that's for sure.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: Well, just real quick, I mean, one of our viewers, if they were to pick up this book, what it was it generally, what are they going to be seeing in this book?
- 6:51SPEAKER_01: So, first it's called Field Tested, and what it is is it is about 16 chapters, maybe 17, I can't remember.
- 6:57SPEAKER_01: 16 or 17 chapters of a story about what happened in business.
- 7:03SPEAKER_01: It's uh either what happened directly in Herb's business or directly a business we've seen here or in our own business and mobilization funding along my journey.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Um, lessons we learned along the from the story, how they relate directly to your construction business or your business in general as a leader of a business or the founder, and what you can do to avoid the problem, and when you find yourself in the problem, how you can get out of it.
- 7:29SPEAKER_01: So you think about a quick little short story.
- 7:31SPEAKER_01: Now you have something related to.
- 7:33SPEAKER_01: Here's the lessons and problems of how we got into it, here's how we solved it, and this is how you can take current and direct action steps today in your business to either mitigate the problem or avoid it altogether.
- 7:45SPEAKER_01: Awesome.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: And then you got about 17, 18 of those.
- 7:47SPEAKER_01: All kinds of things.
- 7:48SPEAKER_00: Congrats, Scott.
- 7:49SPEAKER_00: That's awesome.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: That's amazing.
- 7:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're welcome.
- 7:51SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 7:53SPEAKER_00: See you in October.
- 7:54SPEAKER_01: All right, October 21st and 22nd in Tampa.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: We hope to see you guys there.
- 7:59SPEAKER_01: Until next time, have a great week and may God bless you.
