- 0:02Speaker 1: We're camping bron Toddfather Pizinski on the road in Arizona
- 0:08Speaker 1: FT spring training tour continuing. We're going to talk to
- 0:11Speaker 1: the A's pretty soon. But this tour is engineered by
- 0:16Speaker 1: Fast and All Boom. Check out more info at passmall
- 0:19Speaker 1: dot com and check out this calendar. We put together
- 0:22Speaker 1: two camps down Many to go. Royals Camp Done, Guardians Camp.
- 0:25Speaker 1: Thank you to both the Royals and the Guardians for
- 0:28Speaker 1: being so gracious with hosting us and for giving us
- 0:32Speaker 1: access to so many players.
- 0:34Speaker 2: That is a big part of what we do as.
- 0:35Speaker 1: A network and as a show, and we will do
- 0:37Speaker 1: that again with the A's today, Dodgers tomorrow, Mariners on Saturday,
- 0:42Speaker 1: Rangers on Sunday. Remember we have live shows over the
- 0:45Speaker 1: weekend to continue the Arizona tour. A little Cactus League action.
- 0:49Speaker 1: As you can see, they're getting the field ready. There's
- 0:51Speaker 1: gonna be games soon too, right AJ, when's the first
- 0:53Speaker 1: game tomorrow?
- 0:56Speaker 3: Tomorrow? Tomorrow's Friday? Right, Yes, Cubby Birds, Kubby Bears, White
- 1:01Speaker 3: Sox tomorrow. I know that one is on Friday, So
- 1:03Speaker 3: that's the start. I think. Well, heck, they gotta get ready, Todd.
- 1:06Speaker 3: They got the WBZ starting in like two weeks.
- 1:11Speaker 4: This should have started the day after the Super Bowl.
- 1:13Speaker 4: Let's go.
- 1:16Speaker 1: Well, no, some of them get their Valentine's Day in
- 1:19Speaker 1: and then they jump.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Right after that. Right, that's part of the deal.
- 1:24Speaker 1: But I mean, in all seriousness, Todd, if you were
- 1:26Speaker 1: playing the WBC in the first game's Friday, and then
- 1:29Speaker 1: the WBC starts in like two weeks. You know how
- 1:32Speaker 1: guys say, oh, I need X amount of at bats
- 1:34Speaker 1: to be ready for the season. Well, for most of
- 1:36Speaker 1: these guys, they treat it like a big deal.
- 1:39Speaker 2: They want to be seasoned ready way sooner.
- 1:43Speaker 4: Yeah, and I think that starts with live at bats too.
- 1:46Speaker 5: It's one of those things where you know only a
- 1:48Speaker 5: select number of pitchers can throw that day. But at
- 1:50Speaker 5: the same time, hey, man, if I can hop in
- 1:52Speaker 5: and get an extra bat or see an extra four
- 1:54Speaker 5: or five pitches, don't mind if I do. And now
- 1:57Speaker 5: game starting, you don't want to play all in the beginning.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Of course, you know your body is not fully ready
- 2:04Speaker 5: for that. And I always tell everybody you can't really
- 2:07Speaker 5: get ready for spring training. That's standing around you put
- 2:09Speaker 5: your cleats on and stand in the rocks in your
- 2:11Speaker 5: backyard for you know, an.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Hour and thirty minutes. It still won't it won't help
- 2:16Speaker 4: you out.
- 2:16Speaker 5: But yeah, I would like to get extra bats, extra
- 2:19Speaker 5: this extra work, all that kind of stuff to make
- 2:23Speaker 5: sure I'm in tip top shape to play this this
- 2:26Speaker 5: big classic.
- 2:27Speaker 1: Yeah, it's gonna be big. We're gonna be covering it extensively.
- 2:30Speaker 1: We'll have some postgame shows too.
- 2:31Speaker 3: But by the way, you can't play nine innings except
- 2:34Speaker 3: if you're Tom Kelly. If you're playing for Tom Kelly,
- 2:37Speaker 3: who would play the catcher nine innings the first spring
- 2:39Speaker 3: training game. Oh christee, if you were in shape or not.
- 2:45Speaker 3: Oh yeah, it happened. It happened. Marcus Jensen, who's a
- 2:48Speaker 3: coach of the A's here, he had it happen to him,
- 2:50Speaker 3: and he got me. I think I made eight innings
- 2:52Speaker 3: and he finally took me out one year. So yeah,
- 2:54Speaker 3: he'll tests you right away, test you right away.
- 2:58Speaker 2: Right after the little I feel like that's a little much. No,
- 3:02Speaker 2: you were okay with it, Listen.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I was young man. I was like, I'll play. I'll
- 3:06Speaker 3: play forty innings if you want me to. Like twenty two,
- 3:09Speaker 3: twenty one, two twenty three years old, the first day
- 3:12Speaker 3: of spring shame. I got a chance to make the team,
- 3:14Speaker 3: I'll put You need me to play a doubleheader, I'll
- 3:16Speaker 3: do it. I'll figure it out.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, Tom told you to do that. When you're thirty
- 3:19Speaker 1: five and you got a lot of dirt in your spikes,
- 3:21Speaker 1: then what.
- 3:23Speaker 3: You might have had a little different conversation.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Let's chat in the office.
- 3:29Speaker 1: All right, Well we have we have some office conversation
- 3:32Speaker 1: to get to here and then we'll talk to some
- 3:33Speaker 1: Aze players later on.
- 3:35Speaker 2: So let's charge.
- 3:38Speaker 3: Let's charge it out.
- 3:40Speaker 1: So this is three days in a row now leading
- 3:42Speaker 1: charge of the mound. It's the replacement for Tony Clark,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and it's somewhere to that everyone is very familiar with
- 3:50Speaker 1: in the Players Association. So since we had our last show,
- 3:54Speaker 1: we now know that Bruce Meyer is going to lead
- 3:57Speaker 1: the Players Association aka the Union. This came out yesterday,
- 4:01Speaker 1: passing first breaking that he was unanimously elected as executive
- 4:05Speaker 1: director of the Players Association. Now it sounds like there's dissension.
- 4:08Speaker 1: I'll let everyone know because we do this all the
- 4:10Speaker 1: time on both sides. Owners and players when they're voting
- 4:12Speaker 1: for things often will disagree on things, and then it's
- 4:14Speaker 1: almost like a revote, and then everybody says, yep, we
- 4:17Speaker 1: agree because.
- 4:18Speaker 2: You can chat.
- 4:18Speaker 1: I mean, remember aj they had a meeting first the
- 4:21Speaker 1: day before, and then they're like, wait, hold up. There's
- 4:24Speaker 1: probably a million phone calls that go down with different players,
- 4:27Speaker 1: and then they all get on the same page and
- 4:28Speaker 1: they say, Hey, this guy has been here for years.
- 4:31Speaker 1: He knows the deal, he knows how to say no,
- 4:33Speaker 1: tam lb. He's still going to be the lead negotiator,
- 4:36Speaker 1: which actually a little bit uncommon. Usually have the leader
- 4:38Speaker 1: and then the number two, which is Matt Nussbaum who
- 4:41Speaker 1: enters that role.
- 4:43Speaker 2: But Meyer has.
- 4:43Speaker 1: Been in this role now for a while, going up
- 4:45Speaker 1: against Manfred's number two, the deputy Commissioner, whose name is
- 4:49Speaker 1: Stan Halem. That Meyer and Halem will still duke it
- 4:52Speaker 1: out starting in a couple months when negotiations begin. And
- 4:56Speaker 1: I say that in air quotes because they're really not
- 4:57Speaker 1: going to do much until like next.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Jeez, Scott, you're putting a loan.
- 5:04Speaker 1: I'm just being real about how this stuff goes blah
- 5:08Speaker 1: blah talk in ten months.
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I hope they don't. I saw Bruce last night
- 5:13Speaker 3: at the UH Playmakers Classic that we were at, and
- 5:16Speaker 3: he was he was happy. He looked relieved. He looks stressed,
- 5:19Speaker 3: but when I talked to him, he gave me a
- 5:21Speaker 3: hug and relieve. He looks stressed, but then he looked
- 5:29Speaker 3: relieved after we talked, and he said, uh, you know,
- 5:32Speaker 3: I'm happy that it's over with. I'm very excited to
- 5:34Speaker 3: get this job done and now I'm ready to rock
- 5:37Speaker 3: and roll. So I think it was the right move
- 5:39Speaker 3: for the players to have someone that was already in
- 5:42Speaker 3: the room. And the most important part for me is
- 5:45Speaker 3: the owners know what they're getting in Bruce Meyer. Whether
- 5:47Speaker 3: you love him or hate him as a player, you
- 5:50Speaker 3: know what he's gonna do, and he's going to negotiate
- 5:52Speaker 3: the hell out of the CBA for his side, which
- 5:55Speaker 3: is the players. And listen, we had sky Bar song,
- 5:59Speaker 3: We talked Terrek School arbitration case. Bruce Meyer went in
- 6:02Speaker 3: there and was the final argument for Trek Scoogle. That's
- 6:07Speaker 3: what you want because I know, and I heard this
- 6:09Speaker 3: from numerous people when they saw Bruce Meyer. They were
- 6:13Speaker 3: not happy on the owner's side when Bruce Meyer sat down,
- 6:15Speaker 3: because he knows the CBA, he knows labor law, and
- 6:19Speaker 3: he knows how to get things done. So I think
- 6:21Speaker 3: this was a nice hire. Now how long will last?
- 6:23Speaker 3: I don't know. Bruce, does he have the greatest personality
- 6:25Speaker 3: in the world. No, but you're not getting this job
- 6:27Speaker 3: for personality. Don fear to have the greatest personality in
- 6:29Speaker 3: the world either. So, but he was great at what
- 6:32Speaker 3: his job is. And Bruce Meyer's job is to get
- 6:35Speaker 3: a win on the CBA for the players and to
- 6:37Speaker 3: keep baseball going strong the way it is.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Todd, can I just bring up an analogy that I
- 6:41Speaker 2: think will help this case too.
- 6:44Speaker 1: So let's say you have an agent and some people
- 6:47Speaker 1: are like, Eh, he's not the most fun to get
- 6:48Speaker 1: drinks with, or he doesn't totally understand my game, whatever,
- 6:52Speaker 1: but he always gets me the best deals are the
- 6:53Speaker 1: best contracts. That's their job, right. So you may not
- 6:58Speaker 1: like or love the person. I bet Bruce Meyer is
- 7:01Speaker 1: not the funniest person in the world. I don't want
- 7:03Speaker 1: him to be the funniest person in the world. I
- 7:05Speaker 1: want him to be the guy that knows how to
- 7:06Speaker 1: say no if he's trying if another entity like MLB
- 7:11Speaker 1: is trying to bully the players, right, because they have
- 7:13Speaker 1: a billion lawyers, the Player Association is a billion lawyers. Too,
- 7:16Speaker 1: But you can't have a guy that's like, yeah, you
- 7:17Speaker 1: know what, that's fine, We'll just do that.
- 7:20Speaker 2: It's okay.
- 7:21Speaker 4: Yeah, I think you're one hundred percent accurate with that.
- 7:26Speaker 4: He's a guy for me.
- 7:27Speaker 5: When I was there, he went unnoticed, and I think that's,
- 7:30Speaker 5: in all fairness, that's a really good thing. These are
- 7:33Speaker 5: the type of people that are the quietest in the room,
- 7:36Speaker 5: the person that's like, who's that in the corner, I
- 7:39Speaker 5: don't recognize him, Oh that's you know, that's Bruce or whomever.
- 7:42Speaker 5: But for a guy like this, I said hi to
- 7:45Speaker 5: him a couple of times, never really got in depth
- 7:47Speaker 5: in conversation. That's the guy I was always looking out
- 7:49Speaker 5: for in a good way, you know what I mean. Like,
- 7:51Speaker 5: this guy wants to be here and he wants to
- 7:52Speaker 5: help out these players, and I you know, whether you
- 7:56Speaker 5: love him or hate him, he's the guy now for
- 7:59Speaker 5: how long again, we don't know, but he's the guy.
- 8:01Speaker 5: I think he's going to put it in his back
- 8:03Speaker 5: pocket and say, listen, it's my turn. However, I got
- 8:06Speaker 5: this job right now whatever, we're going to put that away,
- 8:09Speaker 5: put that to the side. It's my turn to show
- 8:12Speaker 5: what I got here.
- 8:13Speaker 4: Into you know.
- 8:14Speaker 5: All due respect to the owners, I think they're you know,
- 8:17Speaker 5: maybe a little worried here about who is in charge
- 8:20Speaker 5: and how new and how different there. Bruce is going
- 8:24Speaker 5: to go about his business to protect these players. And
- 8:28Speaker 5: we'll see next year, you know, come twenty seven. But
- 8:30Speaker 5: ultimately this changes the game for everybody and everyone involved.
- 8:37Speaker 4: All right.
- 8:38Speaker 3: We got the Warby Parkers. I got the Raiders, but
- 8:41Speaker 3: one thing I upgraded to Polarized. Sorry about it.
- 8:46Speaker 5: Yeah, these are good not only for wearing, but also
- 8:49Speaker 5: out in the sun. When I become that baseball coach
- 8:51Speaker 5: I always want to be with my kids. I got
- 8:53Speaker 5: the Hatchers. They're darker, a little bit wider for my face.
- 8:57Speaker 5: They fit perfect, They're comfortable. It's an easy process to
- 9:00Speaker 5: order these really really cool glasses.
- 9:02Speaker 1: I am a diehard Warby Parker fan. I do have
- 9:06Speaker 1: prescription glasses and I wear Warby Parker every day for
- 9:09Speaker 1: many years.
- 9:10Speaker 2: I'm excited about this one. Give it a shot.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Warby Parker gives you quality and better looking prescription I
- 9:15Speaker 1: wear at a fraction of the going price. Our listeners
- 9:17Speaker 1: get fifteen percent off plus free shipping when they buy
- 9:20Speaker 1: two or more pairs of prescription glasses at Warbyparker dot
- 9:23Speaker 1: com slash foul. That's fifteen percent off when you buy
- 9:26Speaker 1: two pairs of glasses at wa r by Parker dot
- 9:30Speaker 1: com slash foul. After you purchase, they will ask you
- 9:33Speaker 1: where you heard about them. Please support our show and
- 9:36Speaker 1: tell them foul Territory sent you. Yeah, and Chris Bassett
- 9:39Speaker 1: had some really strong public comments over the last few days.
- 9:43Speaker 1: But Aje has pointed out that there's a lot of
- 9:46Speaker 1: confusion sometimes because if you go back a couple years,
- 9:49Speaker 1: there was a group of players that were trying to
- 9:51Speaker 1: get a new regime to take over, and Bassett felt
- 9:55Speaker 1: like there was a lot of confusion about who you know,
- 9:58Speaker 1: is friends with who and who's supposed to talking to who.
- 10:00Speaker 1: He's like, you know, some players are like, oh he
- 10:02Speaker 1: talks to Boris, No shit, he represents a ton of players.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Here's one of the quotes, so Andy Coska pointing this
- 10:09Speaker 1: one out from Bassett, who's now on the Orioles MLBPA
- 10:12Speaker 1: subcommittee member on the salary cap debate, he said, the
- 10:15Speaker 1: CAP's not the issue. Having suppressed salaries across the league's
- 10:18Speaker 1: owners can make more money is not the answer. But
- 10:21Speaker 1: also he gave credit to Bruce and to Matt Nusbaum,
- 10:24Speaker 1: who's now the number two here for having players backs
- 10:27Speaker 1: during this investigation that was going on.
- 10:30Speaker 4: As you know, Tony.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Clark had the sister in law thing going that we
- 10:33Speaker 1: just found out about, and I think it was a
- 10:34Speaker 1: shock to many, and that was discovered by this outside
- 10:37Speaker 1: firm that was hired because Tony Clark was being investigated
- 10:42Speaker 1: by the FEDS. So if they end up finding something
- 10:44Speaker 1: with Tony, who is representing the players, you bring in
- 10:47Speaker 1: this firm, they start their own investigation, they find out
- 10:50Speaker 1: what's going on with Tony outside of the investigation, which
- 10:53Speaker 1: was the inappropriate relationship, the Jerry Springer situation going on
- 10:58Speaker 1: with Tony and his sister in law. But I'll take
- 11:03Speaker 1: the quote here from Bruce Meyer about Tony Clark because
- 11:08Speaker 1: he worked for him, right. But he said, I'm not
- 11:10Speaker 1: going to say this is a great thing. This is unforeseen.
- 11:12Speaker 1: There have been some issues hanging over as you know,
- 11:15Speaker 1: and in some respects it's good to get them out
- 11:17Speaker 1: of the way sooner rather than later. It's the same
- 11:19Speaker 1: so he said, same legal team, same player stance as
- 11:22Speaker 1: all of that. But now you don't have the distractions
- 11:24Speaker 1: of everything that was going on with Tony.
- 11:28Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly, Yeah, everything. There was a lot happening, FBI investigations.
- 11:32Speaker 6: Do you find this guys trying to get him out?
- 11:35Speaker 6: And if you remember Scott, I think it was the
- 11:38Speaker 6: CIA's group of guys that kind of banded together and
- 11:41Speaker 6: then went, I don't know, I hate to call out
- 11:43Speaker 6: certain people.
- 11:43Speaker 3: And then you know, there was a little bit of.
- 11:45Speaker 1: We said, say some names Flaherty and uh and gild.
- 11:50Speaker 2: Yeah, they were part and there were other group.
- 11:53Speaker 3: What they wanted though, if you remember, is they wanted it.
- 11:55Speaker 3: They wanted an audit to see where they were spending
- 11:57Speaker 3: the money, right, because I think for years the union
- 12:00Speaker 3: has kind of gone un checked. I know, I was
- 12:02Speaker 3: in the Union forever and I don't know what they
- 12:04Speaker 3: spend all the money. And they took a lot of
- 12:05Speaker 3: our money, right, Todd and and they said, oh, we're
- 12:07Speaker 3: putting it in at a war chest and they're doing
- 12:09Speaker 3: this for later, right. But I mean, and then you
- 12:11Speaker 3: got it, you gotta check of it back. But it
- 12:13Speaker 3: wasn't always the full amount because they had to spend
- 12:16Speaker 3: some for time and for to do things and to
- 12:18Speaker 3: you know, fly the the guys around and which is fine.
- 12:21Speaker 3: I get that part, but no one has ever checked
- 12:23Speaker 3: what they were doing, so that I think that I
- 12:25Speaker 3: think if I'm correct, that's kind of where this all started,
- 12:27Speaker 3: is they wanted an audit to see what the thing
- 12:29Speaker 3: was spending on. The union fought it back, and then
- 12:32Speaker 3: after a while they got those guys out because those
- 12:34Speaker 3: guys are on the subcommittee. They kicked them out and
- 12:37Speaker 3: now here we are with a different subcommittee, and they
- 12:39Speaker 3: improved Bruce Meyer. So it's a lot of and it's
- 12:41Speaker 3: too much to get way too deep into the weeds,
- 12:44Speaker 3: but they I just feel like they chose the right guy.
- 12:47Speaker 3: And I think this will unify the players because everywhere
- 12:50Speaker 3: you look, oh there's blood in the water. There's blood
- 12:51Speaker 3: in the water. Tony's gone, well, guess what, you just
- 12:53Speaker 3: brought a bulldog in and Bruce Meyer to clean up
- 12:56Speaker 3: that blood.
- 12:57Speaker 1: Yeah, and he's not held back with any of the
- 13:00Speaker 1: actions now, Todd, Sorry, he's not helping.
- 13:02Speaker 5: No, that's what I was gonna say. It's his game now,
- 13:05Speaker 5: you know what I mean. He can step on toes now,
- 13:07Speaker 5: he can he can say some things that maybe he's
- 13:11Speaker 5: been wanting to say, you know, to a couple of
- 13:13Speaker 5: guys on the other side point some fingers, so without
- 13:16Speaker 5: you know, being two over the top.
- 13:18Speaker 4: So it's falls in your court now, so we'll know.
- 13:23Speaker 3: Todd, he can go over the He can go over
- 13:25Speaker 3: the top if he wants. At this point, he can
- 13:27Speaker 3: do it because he's in charge now, and I think
- 13:29Speaker 3: he's in I think he was named interim, right, so listen,
- 13:32Speaker 3: he's got however long this negotiating takes to prove that
- 13:35Speaker 3: this is his job, and this is I'm assuming for
- 13:37Speaker 3: a labor lawyer, this has got to be a top job.
- 13:39Speaker 3: I don't know what he's gonna make or what they make,
- 13:42Speaker 3: but I'm sure it's not chump change, right, and if
- 13:45Speaker 3: you probably okay, if you're passionate, Todd, if you're passionate
- 13:48Speaker 3: about this, sure go ahead.
- 13:50Speaker 1: So he was making about one and a half mil
- 13:52Speaker 1: and Tony Clark was making about three and change. Now
- 13:55Speaker 1: in comparison, Rob Manford makes like twenty mil and many
- 13:57Speaker 1: of his people around him make tons of money. But
- 14:00Speaker 1: you know, some people still look at that. Yeah, it's
- 14:02Speaker 1: a lot of money, right, So.
- 14:05Speaker 4: We don't know. I had no clue, nobody.
- 14:07Speaker 2: Yeah, those mbers happen to be filed it's it's labor law.
- 14:11Speaker 5: You know, all right, Yeah, but I'm just saying if
- 14:13Speaker 5: you ask all the players, I wouldn't I would say
- 14:15Speaker 5: fifty percent at least don't know, which is fine. I'm
- 14:18Speaker 5: just saying, and I think AJ brought it up a
- 14:21Speaker 5: little bit. There was a lot of stuff, you know,
- 14:23Speaker 5: players that we didn't know about, which at the at
- 14:27Speaker 5: the time.
- 14:27Speaker 4: It's like whatever, they're doing their job, good stuff.
- 14:29Speaker 5: But there's a lot there's a lot of little things
- 14:32Speaker 5: where that would go unnoticed and maybe maybe something different
- 14:36Speaker 5: here now for the players that they'll know more.
- 14:38Speaker 4: But yeah, that was it.
- 14:43Speaker 1: Yeah, So those are those are the numbers. That's as
- 14:45Speaker 1: much as we can tell you about what goes on.
- 14:47Speaker 3: As much as listen. Yeah, but Scott, the money's nice, right,
- 14:50Speaker 3: But if you're Bruce Meyer and you want to keep
- 14:52Speaker 3: that job and you want to move up to the
- 14:54Speaker 3: Tony Clark salary, you go prove it. You have twelve
- 14:57Speaker 3: months a year whatever it is till just prove it.
- 15:01Speaker 3: Prove it you're behind the players, Prove that you can
- 15:03Speaker 3: get a good deal done, because once you do that,
- 15:05Speaker 3: then I'm not saying you get four years off after
- 15:07Speaker 3: five years or three years or whatever the next CBA is.
- 15:10Speaker 3: But then you get time to kind of reload, relax,
- 15:13Speaker 3: get all your people in place that you want in
- 15:15Speaker 3: place for the next war, which comes, you know, every three,
- 15:18Speaker 3: four or five years. It's usually four years they signed
- 15:20Speaker 3: these deals for, so it's about every four years when
- 15:22Speaker 3: they have these. So if you get a good one
- 15:24Speaker 3: and the players are behind you, guess what, You can
- 15:27Speaker 3: keep this job for a long time. Ask don for
- 15:29Speaker 3: your Ask Marvin Miller, right, the guys that ever, the
- 15:32Speaker 3: main people that everyone knows you can keep this job
- 15:34Speaker 3: for a long time. And listen, three and a half
- 15:36Speaker 3: million foul Territs are ain't even paying todd three and
- 15:38Speaker 3: a half million.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Let me you don't know that.
- 15:42Speaker 1: Let me tell you this though, because people look at
- 15:45Speaker 1: player money, right and they think, oh, that's crazy. But
- 15:48Speaker 1: then you're like, hey, they're splitting a pot. Otherwise it's
- 15:51Speaker 1: going to you know, an owner who just runs a
- 15:53Speaker 1: team and makes plenty of money off that team too,
- 15:55Speaker 1: So they're splitting a massive pot. Just to give you perspective,
- 15:58Speaker 1: I did the math quickly because actually read an article
- 16:00Speaker 1: just randomly last night.
- 16:01Speaker 2: Couldn't sleep.
- 16:02Speaker 1: Wall Street Journal top rate right now that's going for
- 16:05Speaker 1: the top end lawyers, you know, because.
- 16:07Speaker 2: They always keep uping it.
- 16:08Speaker 1: Do you know if it's at now per hour if
- 16:09Speaker 1: you get in the tippy top on the competition, thirty
- 16:13Speaker 1: five hundred dollars an hour, So if you lay that
- 16:16Speaker 1: out over the course of a year, do you know
- 16:17Speaker 1: how much money that is salary wise? Seven million dollars.
- 16:24Speaker 4: I got.
- 16:24Speaker 5: I got two cousins that just got finished there. So
- 16:28Speaker 5: I'm like, you know what smart move law schools.
- 16:32Speaker 2: Yeah, so it's good living.
- 16:35Speaker 1: If you're at the top of the class, you can
- 16:37Speaker 1: make Obviously there's plenty of lawyers that make one hundred grand.
- 16:39Speaker 1: But I'm saying the tippy top are charging thirty five
- 16:42Speaker 1: hundred to the Wall Street Journal article from yesterday.
- 16:45Speaker 3: I saw it. Plus don't know that, Scott. Depending on
- 16:47Speaker 3: what kind of article or sorry, what kind of lawyer
- 16:49Speaker 3: you are. Let's say you're a class action you know,
- 16:54Speaker 3: Morgan and Morgan, whatever you want to call it, you
- 16:57Speaker 3: can make way more money because if you hit the side.
- 17:00Speaker 3: I know a friend who is one of those guys,
- 17:02Speaker 3: and they hit one of those big ones and they
- 17:04Speaker 3: are stupid, crazy rich because they you know, they hit
- 17:08Speaker 3: these big ones. That are tobacco asbestos. Right, what was
- 17:12Speaker 3: the Julia Roberts movie that one time went the water
- 17:15Speaker 3: thing in the South? Aaron Brokovitch. Aaron Brockovich, I mean
- 17:20Speaker 3: her lawyers made a killing. So if you lawyers, if
- 17:24Speaker 3: you like reading, then it's a great profession. If you
- 17:28Speaker 3: like arguing, then you become a defense attorney or a prosecutor.
- 17:31Speaker 3: But there's a lot of behind the scenes stuff that
- 17:33Speaker 3: you can do. That is, you can make a lot
- 17:34Speaker 3: of money. How come, by the way, but how come
- 17:37Speaker 3: nobody puts a salary cap or wants a salary cap
- 17:40Speaker 3: on lawyers?
- 17:40Speaker 1: Scott, Well, there's not a salary cap on a free
- 17:43Speaker 1: market in our world.
- 17:44Speaker 4: Right.
- 17:45Speaker 2: If you yeah, you're allowed to make more.
- 17:48Speaker 1: Yes, this is a free market country and baseball is Americana,
- 17:51Speaker 1: And that's why we really should be looking at the
- 17:53Speaker 1: reverse end of if you can't spend one penny in
- 17:56Speaker 1: the offseason and no offense. But like yesterday, we got
- 17:58Speaker 1: a lot of backlash. We're talking to the guardians. They
- 18:01Speaker 1: were great with us, but like when they say we
- 18:02Speaker 1: basically couldn't do anything in the off season, fans are like,
- 18:05Speaker 1: if you can't do anything, are you the right person
- 18:07Speaker 1: to be owning the team. I'm talking about the front office.
- 18:10Speaker 1: But if you can't spend a dime, maybe you need
- 18:13Speaker 1: to re look at how you're running your business. So
- 18:14Speaker 1: that's real talk on what's going on here. So hopefully
- 18:17Speaker 1: this was informative for everyone. And I will say, to
- 18:21Speaker 1: sum it up from a fan perspective, I think that's
- 18:24Speaker 1: important because most of the people watching and listening are
- 18:27Speaker 1: baseball fans. They don't work within the industry. They go,
- 18:29Speaker 1: how does this affect me? It affects you just about zero.
- 18:32Speaker 1: It's the same exact people that would be putting together
- 18:35Speaker 1: the case to have conversations with the league, like the
- 18:38Speaker 1: same exact to a tee. Tony Clark is not the
- 18:40Speaker 1: lawyer in this conversation. He wasn't the one doing the negotiating,
- 18:44Speaker 1: so almost nothing changes. And yes, if anything, the guy
- 18:47Speaker 1: who was doing the lead negotiating now will have more say.
- 18:51Speaker 1: So does it affect how the next CBA works yet?
- 18:54Speaker 1: Probably a little bit.
- 18:55Speaker 2: Does it affect the timing if we'll miss games or not?
- 18:58Speaker 4: Not?
- 18:58Speaker 1: Really, it's gonna be the same stance from this team
- 19:01Speaker 1: and from the players. All right, any questions or anything
- 19:04Speaker 1: we missed there if you watch this afterward, drop comments.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I know we post this separately on YouTube, and then
- 19:08Speaker 1: I'll go back and forth with fans and explain to
- 19:11Speaker 1: them how I truly don't care who gets what out
- 19:14Speaker 1: of all of this. I just want games to be
- 19:16Speaker 1: played and teams to give a crap. Mike Trout leads
- 19:21Speaker 1: off hot corner today he is going back to center
- 19:24Speaker 1: field for the Angels. Trout has battled injuries for years,
- 19:29Speaker 1: and you've got first year manager Kurt Suzuki in there.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Trout has a conversation with him in the org and
- 19:34Speaker 1: he's like, I've actually feel better in center field. Sounds
- 19:38Speaker 1: like he feels as if there's less wear and tear there.
- 19:40Speaker 1: And also, this had been discussed for the past couple
- 19:43Speaker 1: of years. If he's just eching all the time, he's
- 19:45Speaker 1: going to take too many swings. He thinks he'll stay
- 19:47Speaker 1: healthiest in center field. We posted about it, and actually
- 19:50Speaker 1: I'll show you one reply from Mike Cameron, who manned
- 19:53Speaker 1: center fields for a long time in this sport, and
- 19:56Speaker 1: he said ego is crazy man.
- 19:57Speaker 2: Of course he got some pushback for that. I understood
- 20:01Speaker 2: what he was saying, right.
- 20:02Speaker 1: It's like Todd father you're the best in the world
- 20:05Speaker 1: for a long period of time, and you feel like
- 20:08Speaker 1: you still got it and you can handle it out there,
- 20:09Speaker 1: and you desperately want to stay on the field, you know, Troudy.
- 20:13Speaker 1: I'm just going to take the organizational side here and
- 20:16Speaker 1: just the fan side of watching Mike for years battle
- 20:20Speaker 1: through injuries. I know he's taking a lot of swings.
- 20:23Speaker 1: If he's a DH, to take less swings, you got
- 20:25Speaker 1: a DH. He's got years left on this deal and
- 20:28Speaker 1: he's not grading out well in the outfield anymore.
- 20:31Speaker 2: So what do you do here?
- 20:33Speaker 1: If you're the Angels and you've got a manager on
- 20:35Speaker 1: a one year contract who doesn't want to say no
- 20:37Speaker 1: to anybody, let alone the best player.
- 20:41Speaker 5: Maybe it goes to show you where Mike Trout is
- 20:43Speaker 5: right now. Maybe he feels really really good. Maybe it's
- 20:47Speaker 5: a thing where he feels like, all of a sudden,
- 20:50Speaker 5: if I go in this position and I'm the DH
- 20:52Speaker 5: and I'm not playing outfield anymore, it's kind of fizzling
- 20:55Speaker 5: my way out of there. I don't mind it. I
- 20:58Speaker 5: like always come out. I think it shows confidence. I
- 21:01Speaker 5: think it shows his ability of where he's at and
- 21:04Speaker 5: his body right now. I don't have all the answers
- 21:08Speaker 5: to why he wants to play center field, but I
- 21:11Speaker 5: feel like, if that's it and that's what he wants
- 21:14Speaker 5: to do, man let him do it. I feel like
- 21:15Speaker 5: he wants to show everybody that he can play, you know,
- 21:18Speaker 5: one hundred and forty five hundred and fifty games a
- 21:21Speaker 5: year and be the guy of old and you know, listen,
- 21:25Speaker 5: I don't know how many years he has left in
- 21:27Speaker 5: his contract, but it's got it's coming.
- 21:29Speaker 4: Oh he has a lot, Yeah, he has a lot. Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 5: I mean, so listen, I'm not worried. I'm not worried
- 21:36Speaker 5: about it. I'm not worried about it at all. I
- 21:38Speaker 5: want the guy to go out there and play center field.
- 21:39Speaker 5: He's one of the most electric players there is when
- 21:41Speaker 5: he's healthy, and I don't see that as a bad choice.
- 21:45Speaker 5: But then all he gets hurt, it's going to come
- 21:46Speaker 5: back home. Anybody has a chance to get hurt in
- 21:49Speaker 5: this game. I think it just goes to show where
- 21:51Speaker 5: he is and where he's at in his program and
- 21:53Speaker 5: how confident he is of being healthy.
- 21:57Speaker 3: Here's I agree with you, Todd on that part. But
- 21:59Speaker 3: here's here's the one thing I'll say to that though
- 22:04Speaker 3: you cover so much more ground in center field. And yes,
- 22:07Speaker 3: I understand he's more comfortable out there and he's done it,
- 22:10Speaker 3: but you have to cover so much more ground. And
- 22:12Speaker 3: what has Mike Trout had most A lot of his
- 22:14Speaker 3: issues with right calves and hamstrings and stuff like that.
- 22:18Speaker 3: So if you can back right, you have to lessen that.
- 22:21Speaker 3: If you're Mike Trout at this age, and I kind
- 22:24Speaker 3: of agree with it. You said, if you have to
- 22:26Speaker 3: DH some don't take a million swings. Take find a routine,
- 22:29Speaker 3: or you take five to ten swings in between you
- 22:31Speaker 3: don't take you don't have to take one hundred swings in
- 22:33Speaker 3: between the bats. And I mean, we just want to
- 22:36Speaker 3: see Mike Trout on the field. And if it's center field,
- 22:38Speaker 3: that gives them the best chance. If it's left field,
- 22:40Speaker 3: if it's right field, if it's shortstop, if it's first base,
- 22:43Speaker 3: if it's DH, whatever it is, baseball is better when
- 22:46Speaker 3: Mike Shout's on the field. So if he thinks it can,
- 22:48Speaker 3: he can do it. We'll see. Well, we just want
- 22:51Speaker 3: Mike Trout on the field, so let's just do whatever
- 22:53Speaker 3: helps him stay on the field the most.
- 22:57Speaker 2: Okay, well, what helps him stay on the field.
- 22:58Speaker 1: The most is that that he mostly DHD last year.
- 23:03Speaker 2: He did twenty.
- 23:04Speaker 1: Two games in right field and one hundred and six
- 23:07Speaker 1: as the DH, and he actually appeared in one hundred
- 23:11Speaker 1: thirty games last year. It was the most games that
- 23:14Speaker 1: he's appeared in since twenty Nope, we're not even in
- 23:19Speaker 1: the twenties since twenty nineteen, okay, And there's a lot
- 23:25Speaker 1: of like, you know, twenty twenty one, thirty six games,
- 23:27Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, one hundred nineteen, twenty three, eighty two games,
- 23:30Speaker 1: twenty four to twenty nine games, one hundred thirty games
- 23:32Speaker 1: last year. He might not have been totally pleased with
- 23:35Speaker 1: his bat, but he still was one hundred and twenty
- 23:37Speaker 1: one ops plus. That's a very valuable bat within an
- 23:40Speaker 1: organization that always needs offense.
- 23:43Speaker 2: Right, So I don't know if.
- 23:45Speaker 1: I need to activate roleplay here, but like, if I'm
- 23:48Speaker 1: the organization, then I'm smart about it. I'm like, dude, enough,
- 23:51Speaker 1: you're dhing because we haven't to do twenty thirty.
- 23:55Speaker 2: I don't give if that's what so like, yes, but
- 23:59Speaker 2: they can't mistake that was an awful movement.
- 24:05Speaker 1: And if only there was a show that absolutely torched
- 24:08Speaker 1: that move let me know if you find it.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Oh, is this one?
- 24:12Speaker 3: I'm gonna look.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Okay, there's a billion clips from it.
- 24:18Speaker 5: Let me ask you this question with what Mike Cameron said,
- 24:20Speaker 5: ego was crazy. Man, you could take that a couple
- 24:23Speaker 5: of different ways.
- 24:23Speaker 1: Now, yeah, so fans thought that he meant like, oh,
- 24:28Speaker 1: Trout is an ego.
- 24:29Speaker 2: We all know Trout.
- 24:30Speaker 1: He's humble, he's nice, he is he is a great personality.
- 24:34Speaker 1: To me, I took it as Cameron saying, Hey, you
- 24:39Speaker 1: want to be the guy forever, right. Nick Castianos just
- 24:42Speaker 1: moved on from a team. And what was part of
- 24:44Speaker 1: what sparked that the team saying, hey, dude, you're not
- 24:47Speaker 1: grading out well defensively anymore, and so we don't want
- 24:50Speaker 1: you out in the outfield. We want to mix it up.
- 24:52Speaker 1: We're going to replace you in a game. And he
- 24:54Speaker 1: got pissed. So to me, there's this confidence level here.
- 24:59Speaker 1: I'll bring up the end now, top father. A player
- 25:01Speaker 1: gets hurt, or even someone that's not a pro athlete
- 25:03Speaker 1: gets hurt, they think they can return in five minutes,
- 25:06Speaker 1: and you want to return in five minutes.
- 25:08Speaker 2: But sometimes you got to take your time.
- 25:09Speaker 1: So for this one, for me, it's like, hey, centerfield's
- 25:13Speaker 1: not the spot for you anymore.
- 25:14Speaker 2: You don't grade well there, and we got to keep
- 25:17Speaker 2: you on the field.
- 25:18Speaker 1: You're getting paid a ton of money through twenty thirty,
- 25:20Speaker 1: so DH worked. And if you feel like you're taking,
- 25:23Speaker 1: like Aj said, you take it too many swings, you're
- 25:25Speaker 1: a human being.
- 25:25Speaker 2: Take less swings. I don't feel like this is complicated.
- 25:28Speaker 1: But the Angels, I think, feel like they're in a
- 25:30Speaker 1: tough spot because they have a manager on a one
- 25:32Speaker 1: year deal. If the manager's on a three year deal,
- 25:34Speaker 1: he's he's almost taken his deal through the end of
- 25:36Speaker 1: Trat's deal, and he's like, listen, bro, I want to
- 25:38Speaker 1: get along with you, but I want to win games,
- 25:40Speaker 1: and I'm going to put a better outfield out there. Really,
- 25:43Speaker 1: I am going to put some blame on perrimanation here
- 25:45Speaker 1: because I've been I've been trusting his process for years
- 25:49Speaker 1: and I'm starting to turn there Todd Father, because I
- 25:51Speaker 1: thought the Solaier move was a disaster and it almost
- 25:54Speaker 1: put them in a corner where they had to put
- 25:56Speaker 1: Trout in the outfield because Solaire's not going to play
- 25:58Speaker 1: the outfield much or shouldn't. Okay, what he should be
- 26:01Speaker 1: doing is like this offseason, I'd be going after Harrison Bater,
- 26:04Speaker 1: so Trout can't even look at center field because you know,
- 26:06Speaker 1: Bader is one of the best in the biz out there,
- 26:08Speaker 1: so I'm spending money on that so that I don't
- 26:10Speaker 1: have this problem, because it would be hard for Trout
- 26:12Speaker 1: to sit down with Kurtzuzuki and be like, I should
- 26:14Speaker 1: play center field. But they're looking right now, like who's
- 26:17Speaker 1: playing centerfield?
- 26:17Speaker 5: Okay, I'll play it, Yeah, yeah, who else are they're
- 26:22Speaker 5: going to put out there?
- 26:25Speaker 3: Dude's well. Adella last year was the guy who played
- 26:28Speaker 3: center fields. He wasn't bad, was he? I don't know
- 26:30Speaker 3: the number.
- 26:30Speaker 1: No, I'd rather have him, but he doesn't grade well
- 26:33Speaker 1: as far as I remember either. I mean, he made
- 26:36Speaker 1: plenty of mistakes last year, but I would rather have
- 26:38Speaker 1: him out there fresh legs than than Trout, who's had
- 26:41Speaker 1: trouble staying on the field.
- 26:43Speaker 2: Yeah, but.
- 26:45Speaker 1: I mean Josh Slow's there now, but I think he's
- 26:47Speaker 1: better in a corner.
- 26:48Speaker 4: I don't know it's in.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Listening, but whatever. In as far as Cammi's comments my Cameron,
- 26:56Speaker 3: I think, yes, there comes a point in everyone's career.
- 26:59Speaker 3: Todd you went through. I went through it where you
- 27:01Speaker 3: have to look yourself in the mirror and say, I
- 27:02Speaker 3: can't do what I could do at twenty five years old.
- 27:05Speaker 3: I'm thirty plus. Now I need to take less swings. Hey,
- 27:09Speaker 3: maybe I need to catch less or I need to
- 27:10Speaker 3: play the field less.
- 27:11Speaker 2: Right.
- 27:12Speaker 3: It kind of happens to everybody. Heck, even Tom Brady
- 27:15Speaker 3: had to freaking succumb to father time at a certain point,
- 27:20Speaker 3: and he thought he'd played for till he was seventy
- 27:22Speaker 3: because he didn't need tomatoes. Right, So you have to
- 27:26Speaker 3: look yourself in the mirror and say, man, I can't
- 27:28Speaker 3: do this every day in centerfield. If it's best for
- 27:31Speaker 3: me to stay on the field, and listen, Mike wants
- 27:34Speaker 3: to do it. They're gonna let Mike do it, whether
- 27:36Speaker 3: his manager's on a one year deal, a five year deal, whatever,
- 27:38Speaker 3: because he's still might trout. But whatever Mike helps you
- 27:41Speaker 3: get on the field, please do that because I want
- 27:43Speaker 3: to see you play more.
- 27:46Speaker 4: Agree.
- 27:49Speaker 5: So inconclusion, yeah, it's still his team at the end
- 27:52Speaker 5: of the day, So I mean, listen.
- 27:54Speaker 2: I agree.
- 27:55Speaker 1: But like, okay, so let's say there is somebody that's
- 27:59Speaker 1: that's thinking they're going to be there beyond this year,
- 28:01Speaker 1: because this is part of the problem, and this is
- 28:02Speaker 1: where there's always an ownership issue.
- 28:04Speaker 2: Right.
- 28:04Speaker 1: People are on like year to year situations basically there,
- 28:07Speaker 1: so it puts you in a tougher spot to be
- 28:09Speaker 1: able to back something up when Trout's going to be
- 28:10Speaker 1: there longer than you. Let's say I'm Kurt Zuzuki and
- 28:13Speaker 1: I'm on a longer term deal, so I feel more
- 28:16Speaker 1: stable in my position and Todd Father we have an
- 28:19Speaker 1: offseason chat. Hey, Trouty, you played one hundred and thirty
- 28:22Speaker 1: games last year, Bro, that was way more than you'd
- 28:25Speaker 1: played previously, and we want you to stay on the field.
- 28:28Speaker 1: You can be our best bat. Your defense has been
- 28:33Speaker 1: great in the past. You're in your mid thirties and
- 28:38Speaker 1: it's not great and as well anymore. And I can't
- 28:41Speaker 1: see you, but I feel like you're probably doing that
- 28:43Speaker 1: thing where you kind of roll your eyes and you
- 28:46Speaker 1: rotate your finger, like, yeah, keep going, Kurt, but I
- 28:49Speaker 1: need you to mostly DH and then play a little
- 28:51Speaker 1: bit of corner outfields a skipper.
- 28:55Speaker 5: I haven't got a grade since high school. I'm not
- 28:57Speaker 5: worried about grades. I'm worried about getting on the field
- 28:59Speaker 5: and helping this team. I gotta go because I got
- 29:02Speaker 5: another workout to tend to. We'll talk and spring.
- 29:05Speaker 1: Okay, great, so I know you hung up, but I'll
- 29:07Speaker 1: have you hitting third dhing on opening Day.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Awesome. Thanks, But I mean to me aj like it's
- 29:13Speaker 2: hurting the team. It is. I'm sorry.
- 29:15Speaker 1: Like his percentage chance of getting hurt is much higher
- 29:17Speaker 1: in centerfield. We all know that that's a fact.
- 29:20Speaker 4: But everybody has a percentage chance of getting hurt. Scott.
- 29:22Speaker 5: That's where I'm not trying to argue with you. I'm
- 29:25Speaker 5: just telling, yeah, he's been hurt a lot more. But
- 29:28Speaker 5: if he's healthy and he's not rehabbing or getting massaged
- 29:33Speaker 5: out after every game and ice and this and that,
- 29:35Speaker 5: if he's if he's there, which we don't know hopefully
- 29:38Speaker 5: he is, then I'm not worried about him.
- 29:40Speaker 1: Man, Let him go play DH and some corner outfield
- 29:45Speaker 1: he doesn't want to.
- 29:46Speaker 2: Centerfield is a demanding position.
- 29:48Speaker 1: It's it's one of the most demanding positions, and you
- 29:50Speaker 1: need you need someone out there that's that's a stud.
- 29:53Speaker 2: At the position.
- 29:55Speaker 4: He's still a stud at that episode.
- 29:57Speaker 2: Stud Bat, stud Bat.
- 30:00Speaker 1: I'm taking a hard stance on this one, because this
- 30:03Speaker 1: is a team that needs to win every game they can.
- 30:06Speaker 1: And I just feel like we always talk about these
- 30:08Speaker 1: stories that wouldn't be a thing with another team. Another
- 30:10Speaker 1: team would have had a center fielder in there that
- 30:13Speaker 1: they feel really good about, and then it would put
- 30:15Speaker 1: Trott in a position where he couldn't even ask for centerfield.
- 30:17Speaker 5: I want to go back. You don't think he's a
- 30:19Speaker 5: good center fielder when he's healthy.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Not anymore? No, not above average, not anymore.
- 30:25Speaker 4: All right, Well we'll disagree on that one too.
- 30:27Speaker 1: Perfect storm right, He's not an above average center fielder. He's
- 30:31Speaker 1: been injured a lot. He actually stayed on the field
- 30:33Speaker 1: as a DH. I love the guy, I love the player.
- 30:35Speaker 1: I want him playing as many games as possible every time.
- 30:37Speaker 1: This happens almost every year besides last year. Obviously you
- 30:40Speaker 1: didn't miss as much time. When he goes down, you
- 30:43Speaker 1: just feel like someone popped a balloon and you're like,
- 30:45Speaker 1: all right, and Traut got hurt and the Angels are toast.
- 30:50Speaker 5: You got to put money on yourself and if you
- 30:52Speaker 5: if you're confident enough and you feel that way, I
- 30:56Speaker 5: want to play. I want to play center field, like
- 30:58Speaker 5: go ahead, go ahead, you think Angels are winning the
- 31:00Speaker 5: World Series?
- 31:02Speaker 1: No, but I think I think if the Angels want
- 31:05Speaker 1: to shock the world and win eighty two games or
- 31:07Speaker 1: whatever the heck, their goal is, you need a full
- 31:10Speaker 1: fledged Trout, hey, j I mean if you were the manager,
- 31:13Speaker 1: would you be okay with this? Would you be like, yeah,
- 31:15Speaker 1: go for it, knowing that there is a higher percentage
- 31:17Speaker 1: chance he's gonna get hurt and it's going to screw
- 31:18Speaker 1: your team over.
- 31:20Speaker 3: Scott, I'm gonna ask you this. Do you remember the
- 31:22Speaker 3: time that Bryce Harper got bench for not running a
- 31:24Speaker 3: ball out by Matt Williams? He was not on a
- 31:26Speaker 3: one year contract and who got fired from the Nationals.
- 31:32Speaker 2: But wait, what does that have to do with it?
- 31:34Speaker 3: Not Bryce Harper? You said, if I'm the manager on
- 31:36Speaker 3: the long term deal, I'm telling him he ain't playing
- 31:39Speaker 3: center field, Dude, Matt Williams tried to out Bryce Harper.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Guess who was not in Washington very long after that?
- 31:45Speaker 3: Not Bryce Harper. Right, Mike Trout is the icon of
- 31:48Speaker 3: the Angels franchise for a long time. Now, Mike Trout
- 31:52Speaker 3: wants to play center field, you give him a shot.
- 31:55Speaker 3: If it doesn't work out after a month, you say, Mike,
- 31:58Speaker 3: you're banged up. Here's the metrics. Right you pull out
- 32:01Speaker 3: the I old iPad and you say, Mike, here's the metrics.
- 32:03Speaker 3: The defensive run saves ain't great. Now we're gonna try
- 32:06Speaker 3: someone else. And then you go to whatever his DRSS
- 32:09Speaker 3: were last year in right field and you say, Mike,
- 32:11Speaker 3: you were better in right field last year, or you're
- 32:13Speaker 3: gonna be better in left field. We need you to
- 32:15Speaker 3: play there. And then if Mike says no, then you
- 32:18Speaker 3: have another conversation. But for right now, you give him
- 32:21Speaker 3: the shot in spring training, You give him a month
- 32:23Speaker 3: or whatever it takes, and if it's not working out,
- 32:26Speaker 3: then you go to him. But right now, he's Mike
- 32:28Speaker 3: Trout and he's got he's earned that right to try.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Okay, that's fine. I mean, I see what you guys
- 32:33Speaker 1: are saying. I just disagree. I would have had the
- 32:35Speaker 1: combo now because I already had the years.
- 32:38Speaker 3: I guarantee you, I guarantee you. They've already had this conversation.
- 32:41Speaker 3: Why do you think he played right field last year?
- 32:43Speaker 3: Because they had this conversation. Why do you think he
- 32:45Speaker 3: dh last year? They had this conversation. Mike Trout went
- 32:47Speaker 3: in the off season, built a new golf course, worked
- 32:50Speaker 3: out probably the best shape of his life. Right here,
- 32:52Speaker 3: he is, I want to play center field. You give
- 32:54Speaker 3: him the shot. The Angels aren't winning the World Series
- 32:57Speaker 3: more than likely, right right, American League West, Mariners, Astros, Rangers,
- 33:04Speaker 3: Athletics are all probably better than the Angels. Correct. Correct,
- 33:09Speaker 3: Give him a shot.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Okay, I don't think it's gonna go well, but I
- 33:16Speaker 1: hear you it's not really gonna matter. That's actually a
- 33:19Speaker 1: good way over there, Non negative, Nancy. I'm only saying
- 33:22Speaker 1: it because he's missed so much time. When you guys
- 33:25Speaker 1: miss that much time and he's thirty four years old,
- 33:26Speaker 1: you don't put him in center field.
- 33:28Speaker 4: I get it. I get it.
- 33:30Speaker 5: But if he's telling me as a manager, hey skip,
- 33:33Speaker 5: I work this offseason.
- 33:34Speaker 4: I feel good.
- 33:35Speaker 5: I'm I'm ready to get back in the center field.
- 33:38Speaker 5: I want to prove to everybody I have no fluke.
- 33:40Speaker 5: I'm gonna help this team win. I'm gonna be a leader.
- 33:43Speaker 5: And guess what, you're first team manager. What will you
- 33:45Speaker 5: say to that? You're like, you know what? Gave me goosebumps?
- 33:49Speaker 5: Right there, let's go. The Mike Trout of old is
- 33:51Speaker 5: coming back and guess what, like AJ just said, Honestly,
- 33:55Speaker 5: if he's not getting the balls, if all of a sudden,
- 33:58Speaker 5: you know, he made an error here or there, or
- 34:00Speaker 5: he's like man and you know what, I need a
- 34:02Speaker 5: break by DH mean put me there.
- 34:04Speaker 4: Yeah, then do it.
- 34:05Speaker 5: But if he looks if he looks good, and you
- 34:06Speaker 5: get involved, which I still disagree with you. I still
- 34:09Speaker 5: think he's above average center fielder, We'll see what happens there.
- 34:13Speaker 5: But spring training's gonna tell a lot. Spring training's gonna
- 34:16Speaker 5: tell a whole heck of a lot because he's gonna
- 34:17Speaker 5: do with four or five innings, take a day off,
- 34:20Speaker 5: maybe two, another four or five, you know, and it's
- 34:22Speaker 5: gonna ramp up a little bit.
- 34:24Speaker 2: That's fair, right.
- 34:25Speaker 1: You let him run around in spring training and see
- 34:27Speaker 1: what it looks like and see how he feels.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Okay, next up. Injury not good.
- 34:33Speaker 1: We've talked about it a little bit, but it sounds
- 34:35Speaker 1: more serious than initially anticipated. And we don't even know
- 34:38Speaker 1: as of now, unless there's something that's come out in
- 34:40Speaker 1: the last like thirty to sixty minutes. Jordan Westburg is
- 34:44Speaker 1: hurt for the Orioles and he is a very valuable
- 34:47Speaker 1: piece of the puzzle Jacob Calvin Meyer with the tweet
- 34:51Speaker 1: from this morning to help explain what's going on there.
- 34:54Speaker 1: Manager Craig Albernaz, when asked if Westburg's injury to whatever
- 34:57Speaker 1: body parts, since they won't say, we don't know, it
- 34:59Speaker 1: could be oblique, elbow is worse than originally feared. Quote,
- 35:03Speaker 1: just want to make sure that we're doing our diligence
- 35:05Speaker 1: and make sure Jordan isn't the best chance to play
- 35:08Speaker 1: this year. And then Calvin Meyer put at the bottom
- 35:11Speaker 1: this year question mark. So aj when we initially learned
- 35:16Speaker 1: about the oblique because he had some imaging done also
- 35:19Speaker 1: on his elbow. This is from the Baltimore Banner saying
- 35:22Speaker 1: that he underwent imaging on the elbow. Prognosis is to
- 35:26Speaker 1: be determined. Currently unable to participate at camp. So we
- 35:30Speaker 1: initially heard about the oblique and then you know, it
- 35:33Speaker 1: was like, oh, they'll slow play it, but he should
- 35:35Speaker 1: be ready for spring training. So I'm gonna like give
- 35:38Speaker 1: the educated guest that it's more elbow related at this point,
- 35:40Speaker 1: that's the bigger concern, and then we'll see what happens here.
- 35:43Speaker 1: But this would be a huge blow. They've got some
- 35:46Speaker 1: depth there in the infield. But Westburg is an all
- 35:48Speaker 1: star caliber player.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Yeah, he's one of the leaders on this team. If
- 35:51Speaker 3: you talk to the Orioles, I'll tell you that Jordan
- 35:53Speaker 3: Osburg is a big leader for him. Orhere'd the elbow
- 35:55Speaker 3: come from? We were all talking oblique, like Todd, what happened?
- 35:58Speaker 3: He was doing some crunches he heard an elbow, like
- 36:01Speaker 3: what happened? Because remember the whole talk was early on,
- 36:04Speaker 3: like you said, Scott Oblik oblk oblique and now and
- 36:07Speaker 3: the thing that's weird is when you said when Craig
- 36:09Speaker 3: Alberna said the year, like, is he gonna miss the
- 36:12Speaker 3: whole year? A bleak? Is you know, it could be
- 36:14Speaker 3: a month or two, but elbow, I guess could be
- 36:17Speaker 3: a year if you get the old Thomas Jonas.
- 36:21Speaker 5: Tomas Jean. Yeah, this is this is different. This is
- 36:25Speaker 5: different than what we've expected, and specifically for me, when
- 36:29Speaker 5: you hear about an injury you don't hear much about
- 36:31Speaker 5: and then it finally comes out what it was, not
- 36:33Speaker 5: the exact prognosis, then you're like, hmm, okay, why were
- 36:37Speaker 5: they trying to hide this a little bit more? I've
- 36:40Speaker 5: had tons of o bleaks I'm sure AJ has. They're
- 36:43Speaker 5: painting the in the side, literally, but eventually they do
- 36:47Speaker 5: go away after about you know, twenty five thirty days.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Elbow knock on wood man, it's scary, so there could
- 36:55Speaker 5: be a whole bunch of things in there, you know,
- 36:58Speaker 5: hoping it's maybe a little tenlbow or something. So he
- 37:01Speaker 5: takes a couple of weeks off and he's fine. But
- 37:04Speaker 5: position player with an elbow, that kind of scary it is.
- 37:10Speaker 1: And hey, AJ, they kept Mountcastle. I mean, Ken has
- 37:14Speaker 1: talked about how he might be on the trade block,
- 37:17Speaker 1: but Kobe Mayo is still there, so you're able to
- 37:21Speaker 1: mix the match a little bit and fill the spot
- 37:23Speaker 1: with someone who could be a regular big leaguer, you know,
- 37:27Speaker 1: a full time player.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Those guys got to prove something good position I know, yeah,
- 37:32Speaker 2: you guys.
- 37:32Speaker 3: You know Mountcastle has had some good years, he's had
- 37:35Speaker 3: some injuries. To Kobe Mayo hasn't proven anything. I'm sorry.
- 37:38Speaker 3: I mean, he's been a prospect forever and he every
- 37:41Speaker 3: time he comes up he doesn't hit, which is what's
- 37:43Speaker 3: supposed to be his tool. So maybe this SERI he
- 37:45Speaker 3: figures it out. But Jordan Westberg, you know this when
- 37:47Speaker 3: he's in there, he's going to give you a good
- 37:48Speaker 3: at bat and he's going to hit you some power.
- 37:50Speaker 3: He's a good defender, and like I said earlier, if
- 37:55Speaker 3: you talk to guys in the oriols, they'll say Jordan
- 37:57Speaker 3: Westberg is a leader in that room and that's important.
- 38:00Speaker 2: Yeah, he's a stud.
- 38:01Speaker 1: Hopefully it's not too bad for him, but it sounds
- 38:04Speaker 1: like Westbrook and Holiday will not start the season for Baltimore,
- 38:08Speaker 1: a team that's looking to rebound from what was a
- 38:11Speaker 1: disaster year.
- 38:12Speaker 5: Results come to Blue Jays first, first two months, watch out,
- 38:15Speaker 5: they might take us commandingly.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Well, that actually perfectly transitions us to the New York
- 38:23Speaker 1: Yankees and Ryan McMahon. McMahon might get some reps at
- 38:27Speaker 1: shortstop in spring. Todd Father, do you like this? I mean,
- 38:30Speaker 1: he's a supreme defender over at third. How about a
- 38:32Speaker 1: little shortstop time to see if he can be a
- 38:34Speaker 1: backup option if needed. According to manager Aaron Boone, I
- 38:38Speaker 1: mean those Yankees are going to be chasing the Blue Jays,
- 38:41Speaker 1: you would think all year battling it out with them.
- 38:44Speaker 1: What do you think about McMahon getting some time over
- 38:46Speaker 1: there at shortstop? Since you know you're not gonna have
- 38:49Speaker 1: Vulpi to start the year and his caballero and everyday shortstop.
- 38:52Speaker 5: Yeah, it's okay, I mean nothing that's going to be
- 38:56Speaker 5: like whoa man, that's a really good idea. I like
- 38:58Speaker 5: him over at third base and anything I is a
- 39:01Speaker 5: versatile enough to play shortstop most likely. Most likely there
- 39:05Speaker 5: are two different positions, a lot more ground to cover
- 39:07Speaker 5: at shortstop, a lot more stuff. You gotta worry about,
- 39:10Speaker 5: double plays, you know, tagging guys out, being the leader
- 39:15Speaker 5: a little bit more there too, as well.
- 39:16Speaker 4: Positioning.
- 39:19Speaker 5: It's a different ballgame and the field looks that much
- 39:21Speaker 5: bigger when you go to shortstop. So I do like
- 39:25Speaker 5: I'm a third He'll be the third baseman, but you
- 39:28Speaker 5: have to have a backup. Maybe there's something else they
- 39:31Speaker 5: got going on in case they got to move him
- 39:33Speaker 5: over and put somebody else there at third base. I
- 39:35Speaker 5: know Rosario is an option. There's all different types of
- 39:39Speaker 5: players you can put there, but the more natural position
- 39:41Speaker 5: is third base.
- 39:43Speaker 3: Scot or tug. Do you know the hardest position to
- 39:47Speaker 3: find in a lot of times for a baseball team
- 39:50Speaker 3: is do you know you guys know what that is?
- 39:52Speaker 3: A backup utility player that can play shortstop in case
- 39:56Speaker 3: your shortstop goes down, that guy is super valuable if
- 39:59Speaker 3: you can find a utility guy that can play shortstop
- 40:03Speaker 3: when if your shortstop goes down for a week or
- 40:06Speaker 3: two weeks or a month, that guy is There's you
- 40:08Speaker 3: can't put a value on that guy for a team
- 40:10Speaker 3: to know that that guy is there, because the great
- 40:12Speaker 3: shortstop is his second for me only to the great
- 40:15Speaker 3: catcher as far as importance on a team, because they
- 40:17Speaker 3: command the infield, they command everything, and and it's tough.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Now can a man do it, probably, but can he
- 40:24Speaker 3: do it for a long period of time, we don't know.
- 40:27Speaker 3: But according to what Scott said, if if Scott said
- 40:32Speaker 3: like Scott said about Mike Trout, I'm not telling him.
- 40:34Speaker 3: I'm just telling him he can't do it. So Scott,
- 40:36Speaker 3: he can't play it because you said it.
- 40:40Speaker 2: They're saying Ryan McMahon can't play shortstop.
- 40:43Speaker 3: Yeah, because he you know, he's willing to and they're
- 40:46Speaker 3: gonna give him a shot, Scott. So since Mike Trout
- 40:48Speaker 3: can't do it, McMahon can't do it because you said
- 40:51Speaker 3: it in role play with your phone.
- 40:52Speaker 2: The phone, that's a troll comment, they said, totally. Situation
- 41:00Speaker 2: is a little different.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Right Man is a nice third, but he's no Mike
- 41:04Speaker 1: Trout and that's what's causing this problem. You should be
- 41:07Speaker 1: able to, as a manager put your chest pieces in
- 41:10Speaker 1: the best position to win you games.
- 41:12Speaker 2: Period.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Every player says the same thing, I want to win
- 41:16Speaker 1: the most games possible. Cool, let me tell you how
- 41:18Speaker 1: to win the most games possible.
- 41:19Speaker 2: We know it and it's you playing.
- 41:21Speaker 3: Every player games, hold on, hold on. Every player says
- 41:24Speaker 3: that every Every.
- 41:26Speaker 1: Player publicly says that some of them might be full
- 41:29Speaker 1: of shit, but every player publicly does every player not
- 41:31Speaker 1: say my number one, number one goal this year, Sam Kennedy,
- 41:34Speaker 1: as possible, did Sam Kennedy.
- 41:37Speaker 3: Say that Raffi Devers did that when he would pick
- 41:39Speaker 3: up the glove, Remember he would pick he would pick
- 41:41Speaker 3: up the glove. We needed to play first. He wouldn't
- 41:43Speaker 3: pick up the glove.
- 41:44Speaker 2: That was Tom Warner. That's a different Red Sox Detective.
- 41:47Speaker 1: Sam Kennedy talked about how he basically kind of dodged
- 41:50Speaker 1: the question about Alex Bregman and the no trade clause,
- 41:53Speaker 1: which is weird and I cannot wait to talk to
- 41:55Speaker 1: Bregman at some point and just be like, hey, dude,
- 41:57Speaker 1: I think we should just lay it out once and
- 41:58Speaker 1: for all. We're the reds going to give you no
- 42:00Speaker 1: trade cause guarantee you. He's going to say no, and
- 42:03Speaker 1: then I don't know what the Red Sox response to that.
- 42:05Speaker 2: Is, But okay, sorry, I got Mountain around the al East.
- 42:10Speaker 3: I got, I got my Boston executives with strange quotes, confused,
- 42:14Speaker 3: I apologize.
- 42:15Speaker 2: No, You're good.
- 42:16Speaker 1: They were all strong candidates for Dork of the Week
- 42:18Speaker 1: this This was probably in our history of Fair Territory,
- 42:22Speaker 1: one of the most rigorous battles. And I actually don't
- 42:24Speaker 1: even know which one got chosen because there was probably
- 42:26Speaker 1: five or six Dork of the Week candidates this week
- 42:29Speaker 1: for Kennon Alana and I didn't get to watch the
- 42:31Speaker 1: end of the episode because we have our show, so
- 42:33Speaker 1: I will be listening to that on Apple Podcasts on
- 42:37Speaker 1: my car ride home after this show.
- 42:39Speaker 2: But let's get to that's what he said.
- 42:42Speaker 3: Yeah, that's what he said.
- 42:43Speaker 2: That's what he said, that's what he said. That's what
- 42:47Speaker 2: he said.
- 42:50Speaker 1: All right, So let's spin forward the Chris Bryant conversation.
- 42:53Speaker 1: He's on the sixty day il. He has barely played
- 42:56Speaker 1: since being a member of the Rockies. He is at camp,
- 42:59Speaker 1: and he did speak, so let's listen to what he
- 43:02Speaker 1: said and then we'll talk about it.
- 43:05Speaker 7: But yeah, it's difficult.
- 43:06Speaker 2: It's not.
- 43:09Speaker 7: Easy waking up in pain every day. So yeah, so
- 43:15Speaker 7: now we're here, and I think just trying to determine
- 43:21Speaker 7: next steps while I'm here and with the training staff
- 43:24Speaker 7: and the doctors.
- 43:26Speaker 1: So I mean, to me, when I hear that Todd father,
- 43:29Speaker 1: I don't feel like he's ever gonna play again.
- 43:31Speaker 2: I mean, he's in significant back pain. He's got a.
- 43:34Speaker 1: Degenerative whatever it's called chronic back situation. You know, my
- 43:38Speaker 1: questions are is he going to ever play again? Nobody knows,
- 43:41Speaker 1: you know, except for maybe doctors and him. And then also,
- 43:44Speaker 1: is there nothing that can be done? You're like where
- 43:47Speaker 1: we're at with medicine. You know, if somebody's waking up
- 43:49Speaker 1: in massive amounts of pain and they're in their early thirties,
- 43:52Speaker 1: that's a problem for anybody.
- 43:55Speaker 5: Yeah, And not to be an example, but that happened
- 43:57Speaker 5: to me at the end of my career. Just anytime
- 44:00Speaker 5: I woke up in the middle of the night or
- 44:02Speaker 5: in that morning, it took me a good.
- 44:06Speaker 4: Two three hours sometimes four hours just to be able
- 44:09Speaker 4: to walk upright.
- 44:10Speaker 5: And it's you know, I don't know what a pain
- 44:12Speaker 5: he's experiencing, the general dist disease and the lumbar I mean, nothing,
- 44:18Speaker 5: nothing compares to you. Your back is, you know, right
- 44:20Speaker 5: in the middle there, and I just I feel for
- 44:23Speaker 5: the guy man, and you know, for him to come
- 44:25Speaker 5: out and say that, I hope there's something they can do.
- 44:27Speaker 5: I'm not going to count him out just yet, but
- 44:31Speaker 5: this could be a whole year long process. I mean
- 44:34Speaker 5: there's a lot they can do. Surgery, I don't know,
- 44:37Speaker 5: you know, can they give them, you know, a couple
- 44:40Speaker 5: of needles here to maintain it? We have no clue,
- 44:44Speaker 5: but you can see it on his face and the
- 44:45Speaker 5: way he's talking. You feel for the guy man because
- 44:48Speaker 5: he is He's a great dude. He's a great player
- 44:50Speaker 5: and love playing against him.
- 44:55Speaker 3: It's sad. It's just sad, that's it. It's just sad
- 44:57Speaker 3: that he didn't beget to become what everyone thought he
- 45:02Speaker 3: would become when he first came up with the Cubs
- 45:04Speaker 3: in twenty fifteen, twenty sixteen, twenty seventeen, that that great
- 45:08Speaker 3: run the Cubs had there.
- 45:09Speaker 2: So.
- 45:11Speaker 3: Remember he was the original guy for the player manipulation
- 45:16Speaker 3: of service time. And remember they had the billboard for
- 45:19Speaker 3: I think it was Adidas that had the big billboard
- 45:21Speaker 3: let's get Chris Bryan here whatever, right outside Wrigley. It
- 45:25Speaker 3: was a shame. It's a shame because everyone thought he
- 45:27Speaker 3: was on a Hall of Fame track. You know, I
- 45:29Speaker 3: think you were a Rooie of the Year in MVP.
- 45:32Speaker 3: They won a World Series in Chicago. Then he gets
- 45:34Speaker 3: traded it didn't work out there. Then he signs this
- 45:36Speaker 3: huge deal with the Rockies and he hasn't been able
- 45:38Speaker 3: to play, and if he never plays again, the amount
- 45:40Speaker 3: of games that he's gonna miss. I mean, you could
- 45:42Speaker 3: put this contract is one of the worst contracts of
- 45:44Speaker 3: all time. Whoever you want to Strasburg, Rendel, whatever, whoever,
- 45:48Speaker 3: Chris Davis, whoever you want to throw out there, is
- 45:49Speaker 3: the worst contracts of all time. This Chris Bryan won
- 45:52Speaker 3: is definitely gonna be on the list if he doesn't
- 45:54Speaker 3: play again. And it's in the biggest part of what
- 45:56Speaker 3: people understand is it's sad. It's just sad. This guy's
- 45:59Speaker 3: played baseball's entire life. Now it's going to be taken
- 46:02Speaker 3: away from something that is kind of out of his control.
- 46:04Speaker 3: It's just sad. It's just sad for Chris and his family.
- 46:07Speaker 3: And I know he made a lot of money, but
- 46:09Speaker 3: it's still sad.
- 46:11Speaker 1: And if you want to learn more about the injury,
- 46:14Speaker 1: we have an injury Territory show. Will Carol injury Expert
- 46:17Speaker 1: covers it. And just to give you a sneak peek,
- 46:20Speaker 1: I mean, he said players do not come back from this,
- 46:23Speaker 1: so he's not thinking that he's going to play again.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And that would be one hundred and seventy games played
- 46:29Speaker 1: with the Rockies out of a possible one thy one
- 46:31Speaker 1: thirty four, so fifteen percent of games in that seven
- 46:34Speaker 1: year contract.
- 46:35Speaker 2: And yeah, this is not.
- 46:37Speaker 1: Like a player going out there under performing because when
- 46:40Speaker 1: he played the first year of Colorado, I think he
- 46:42Speaker 1: got hurt at some point during that season, but he
- 46:44Speaker 1: was hitting pretty well.
- 46:45Speaker 2: I'm looking real quick.
- 46:46Speaker 1: I think he had like one twenty eight ohps plus,
- 46:49Speaker 1: which is pretty close to a lot of the numbers
- 46:50Speaker 1: he was putting up before that. But then once once
- 46:53Speaker 1: he went down, I mean, he just has not been
- 46:54Speaker 1: able to pick it back up. So it sounds like
- 46:56Speaker 1: something chronic that could knock him out for the rest
- 46:59Speaker 1: of his career, got a few extra minutes for slap.
- 47:13Speaker 2: So I got two things.
- 47:14Speaker 4: Prepped for you.
- 47:16Speaker 1: Actually, first we're going to start with Sean Manaia, a
- 47:20Speaker 1: former athletic spending a little time in a college bullpen
- 47:27Speaker 1: in casual clothing spotted. You know, he pitched for what
- 47:32Speaker 1: Indiana State and he's at their game going up against Miami.
- 47:37Speaker 2: So he was down in Coral Gables and he hung
- 47:41Speaker 2: out in the bullpen with the guys. To me, that's
- 47:44Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 47:45Speaker 1: You got a big league accomplished pitcher in there who
- 47:47Speaker 1: used to pitch, you know, out of school. That's not
- 47:49Speaker 1: pumping out big leaguers left and right. If he calls
- 47:52Speaker 1: and he's like, hey, I can stop by, I'd be like, cool,
- 47:54Speaker 1: you can do whatever you want. You want to sit
- 47:55Speaker 1: in the dugout in the Freedom bullpen for a game.
- 47:58Speaker 1: And Sean is also one of the nicest guys in
- 48:00Speaker 1: the sport too. He went like the Nice Guy Award
- 48:02Speaker 1: I think last year in New York when he was
- 48:04Speaker 1: with the Mets. So you know, pop father pretty cool, right.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Yeah, that is pretty cool. And you know he didn't
- 48:10Speaker 4: step on toes either.
- 48:11Speaker 5: He didn't go in the dugout you know, some people
- 48:13Speaker 5: are probably like, oh, you should have did this and
- 48:15Speaker 5: that went to the outfield. You know, shoot the shit
- 48:18Speaker 5: with a couple of guys, maybe go over a couple
- 48:20Speaker 5: different placements of the ball in your hand, just talk shop.
- 48:24Speaker 5: And they were in the game there until late, you know,
- 48:27Speaker 5: against the top twenty five Miami team. So that's got
- 48:31Speaker 5: to be really exciting. The bullpen coach looked like he
- 48:33Speaker 5: was having a good time there. Somebody was warming up.
- 48:36Speaker 5: Looked like he just came off the street and was just, hey, man,
- 48:40Speaker 5: do you mind if I sit next to you. He's
- 48:42Speaker 5: that type of dude. He's a chill and to come
- 48:44Speaker 5: back to where he used to play and you know,
- 48:46Speaker 5: talk a little shop about pitching.
- 48:49Speaker 4: I mean, everybody should have been around him right there.
- 48:52Speaker 4: It was so cool.
- 48:54Speaker 3: It was awesome. It was awesome. He went back. His
- 48:58Speaker 3: alma mater was down there. He went back, and of
- 49:00Speaker 3: course he wants in the bullpen talk to the guys.
- 49:02Speaker 3: Why not. I mean, he's in spring training right there
- 49:04Speaker 3: in Port Saint Lucy drove down to Miami, and what
- 49:07Speaker 3: a thrill for those kids, What a throw for those
- 49:09Speaker 3: kids that are in college in Indiana State to have
- 49:11Speaker 3: shanm and I. I sit next to him and talk
- 49:12Speaker 3: to him, and I thought it was awesome. As someone
- 49:15Speaker 3: that has a kid playing in college, if there was
- 49:17Speaker 3: somebody that came down and talked to him and helped
- 49:19Speaker 3: him a little bit, if not only in baseball, on
- 49:21Speaker 3: life and from what I know of Sean ma and I,
- 49:24Speaker 3: he seems like a great guy. So if you can
- 49:26Speaker 3: get someone like that to come in and speak to
- 49:28Speaker 3: your children and they help them, I'm all for it.
- 49:31Speaker 4: Yep, no doubt.
- 49:34Speaker 2: All right, let's get to one little move that went down.
- 49:38Speaker 1: Minor league signing, but a guy who could crack the
- 49:40Speaker 1: big league team, Mitch Garber agreeing with the Mariners on
- 49:44Speaker 1: a minor league contract. He's thirty five years old, he
- 49:47Speaker 1: spent the last two years with the Mariners. He's going
- 49:49Speaker 1: to compete for the backup catcher job to Cal Raley.
- 49:52Speaker 1: So they also have Andrew Kisner on that roster right now.
- 49:55Speaker 1: So AJ, if you're in Kisner spot, are you pay
- 50:00Speaker 1: when you see something like this or is it pretty
- 50:03Speaker 1: standard where someone comes into camp and you see what happens.
- 50:07Speaker 3: It's pretty standard. Also, remember Garb didn't catch a whole
- 50:10Speaker 3: lot of games, right He went a while. Remember, for
- 50:12Speaker 3: a while, they're like, he can't catch at all. He
- 50:15Speaker 3: didn't catch for a long time when he signed that
- 50:16Speaker 3: deal with the Mariners originally, and then finally they're like, well,
- 50:19Speaker 3: we got to really catch him at some point. I
- 50:21Speaker 3: think he went like a year and a half or
- 50:23Speaker 3: someone without catching. And remember they eased him in. They
- 50:25Speaker 3: ran it like a spring training game. He caught like
- 50:27Speaker 3: five innings and cal Rawley came in and caught the
- 50:29Speaker 3: rest of the game, so he wasn't catching a whole lot.
- 50:33Speaker 3: If your kissner, you're like, okay, well it's another battle.
- 50:36Speaker 3: We'll see what happens. But it's the big leagues. You
- 50:39Speaker 3: got to compete and you got to produce if you
- 50:41Speaker 3: want to keep your job.
- 50:44Speaker 4: Exactly.
- 50:45Speaker 5: Competition is healthy, it's healthy. You know, sign him in
- 50:49Speaker 5: what they said as a minor league deal too as well. Yeah,
- 50:52Speaker 5: there's competition, but you got to understand your worth and
- 50:55Speaker 5: you know what you were brought up to be. Play
- 50:57Speaker 5: your game and everything will take care of itself.
- 51:01Speaker 1: One more minor league signing, because we didn't get to
- 51:03Speaker 1: it the other day and a couple of people were
- 51:04Speaker 1: asking us about it and just for info for anyone.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Minor league signing means that the team can essentially cut
- 51:11Speaker 1: you and it'll cost them nothing. Right, it's not a
- 51:13Speaker 1: guaranteed big league contract. If you're a big leaguer, then
- 51:16Speaker 1: you get paid whatever the deal is that you could
- 51:19Speaker 1: make millions of dollars on a minor league contract. I
- 51:22Speaker 1: believe Dylan Moore signed a contract where if he cracks
- 51:24Speaker 1: the big you know, he gets like three million bucks
- 51:26Speaker 1: whatever it is. So it just doesn't guarantee that the
- 51:29Speaker 1: player is going to get whatever he's signing for. Walker
- 51:32Speaker 1: Buehler signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Everyone knows Bueller for his Dodger days. That's when he
- 51:41Speaker 1: shined and he's bounced around a little bit now. But
- 51:44Speaker 1: he'll get a chance to crack a Padres rotation. They're
- 51:47Speaker 1: bringing in a few of these flyers ag. I know
- 51:49Speaker 1: you guys talked about the Padres the other day. They
- 51:50Speaker 1: had so much news that day with Castiano signing and
- 51:53Speaker 1: aj Preller signing the extension. I feel like under the
- 51:55Speaker 1: radar went Harmon Marquez and Scriffin, Canning and now Walker Buehler,
- 52:01Speaker 1: all guys that have a legit shot to be a
- 52:03Speaker 1: part of this rotation.
- 52:05Speaker 3: Depth. It's all depth. What do we say they didn't
- 52:07Speaker 3: have enough pitching, they didn't have those teams? What do
- 52:10Speaker 3: the Dodgers do? What do the good teams do? The
- 52:11Speaker 3: Blue Jays build depth. If you have enough depth, you
- 52:13Speaker 3: get through the season. If everyone works out, you get
- 52:16Speaker 3: to the postseason, and then you move some guys to
- 52:18Speaker 3: the bullpen if you need to and just add depth.
- 52:20Speaker 3: You need depth to get through the season. These are
- 52:22Speaker 3: nice depth pieces that can help the Padres win this year.
- 52:27Speaker 1: And are all three of those guys going to be
- 52:29Speaker 1: part of the Padres rotation for the season.
- 52:31Speaker 2: Absolutely not.
- 52:32Speaker 1: But even if one of them makes it through and
- 52:35Speaker 1: becomes a factor, then it was great Canning's recovering. I
- 52:38Speaker 1: don't know if he's ready yet anyway, but he was
- 52:39Speaker 1: off to a nice start with the Mets. It looked
- 52:41Speaker 1: like they unlocked something when he went from the Angels
- 52:44Speaker 1: to the Mets. Herman Marquez used to have some good
- 52:47Speaker 1: times and it's coming off you know, this will be
- 52:49Speaker 1: his first full season coming off injury. I know he
- 52:51Speaker 1: wasn't good last year, but also he finally gets out
- 52:54Speaker 1: of Colorado and it's not just the environment there it's
- 52:58Speaker 1: also for marquees joining a different pitching program. The Rockies
- 53:03Speaker 1: up until this year were probably pretty far behind. Now
- 53:05Speaker 1: they're bringing in a new staff, but maybe Marquez is
- 53:08Speaker 1: able to find something. So that rotation right now is
- 53:10Speaker 1: King Paveta, Musgrove, Randy Vazquez, and then could be Marquez,
- 53:14Speaker 1: eventually could be Canning, could be Walker Buehler. And lastly,
- 53:19Speaker 1: we look at the spring training tour calendar as we'll
- 53:22Speaker 1: put a little check mark after today on the Ace
- 53:25Speaker 1: foul Territory. Spring training calendar is engineered by Fast and All,
- 53:30Speaker 1: So thank you to the a's for Katze and Rooker
- 53:33Speaker 1: and Jacob Wilson was great. And then Dodger Camp tomorrow
- 53:37Speaker 1: Saturday is Mariners Camp Live, Rangers Camp Live on Sunday
- 53:41Speaker 1: next week Brewers, Reds, Cubs, Diamondbacks, Giants, and that'll finish
- 53:45Speaker 1: up our Arizona.
- 53:47Speaker 2: Portion of the tour before we flip it over to Florida.
- 53:51Speaker 1: So Dodger Camp tomorrow, AJ you'll have a lot of
- 53:54Speaker 1: Rizzo helping you out there too.
- 53:56Speaker 2: Todd Father will be there.
- 53:57Speaker 1: I will be annoying everyone in the chat, whether you
- 54:00Speaker 1: like me, love me, or absolutely despise my haircut.
- 54:04Speaker 2: I will be in the chat with.
- 54:05Speaker 3: You tomorrow.
- 54:08Speaker 2: And wait on my way out. This is how I
- 54:10Speaker 2: want to say goodbye. This is important. I wrote this
- 54:12Speaker 2: down from yesterday.
- 54:13Speaker 1: I watched the whole live stream last night. So for
- 54:15Speaker 1: Todd Father, the former Derby champ, I'm Scott Braun.
- 54:19Speaker 2: And for the hit Machine, thank you, I love you.
- 54:27Speaker 2: Alex call loved AJ growing up. He called him the
- 54:29Speaker 2: Machine as a kid. Yes see you Friday, Come Voya.
