- 20:14Speaker 4: programming going on across Ruckus Avenue Radio and I'll key
- 20:18Speaker 4: you in on some of that. And now let's bring
- 20:20Speaker 4: in Daniel Johnson to this show as he comes to
- 20:23Speaker 4: us from the UN News department. What's up, Daniel.
- 20:27Speaker 26: This is un News Today with me Daniel Johnson. The
- 20:30Speaker 26: headlines in Sudan the plight of heavily pregnant women who
- 20:34Speaker 26: face a life threatening lack of access to healthcare. Meanwhile,
- 20:37Speaker 26: in neighboring South Sudan, more than six hundred and fifty
- 20:40Speaker 26: thousand refugees and asylum seekers face cuts to life saving
- 20:44Speaker 26: assistance owing to funding gaps, and the ongoing scourge of
- 20:48Speaker 26: attacks on healthcare is having an immediate and lasting impact
- 20:52Speaker 26: on patients worldwide. We'll have all the details from the
- 20:55Speaker 26: World Health Organization. Sudanese women about to give birth in
- 21:02Speaker 26: a war zone are losing their babies and sometimes dying
- 21:05Speaker 26: because of a lack of specialist healthcare support. In an alert,
- 21:09Speaker 26: the un Sexual and Reproductive Health Agency UNFPA described urgent
- 21:13Speaker 26: needs among expectant mothers in Gulo, in western Sudan's Central
- 21:18Speaker 26: Dat four region. The mountain town has only one hospital
- 21:21Speaker 26: capable of performing a C section, and it is the
- 21:24Speaker 26: only one for many miles around, said UNFPAS Fabrizia Falcone.
- 21:29Speaker 27: Most women reached from mountain villages on foot, often working
- 21:33Speaker 27: for hours or being transported on crude wooden stretchers through
- 21:38Speaker 27: the mountains, where when they are already in labor or bleeding.
- 21:42Speaker 27: Those who can afford it hire Donkey, but many women cannot.
- 21:47Speaker 27: Many arrive when it is already too late for them
- 21:49Speaker 27: and also for their babies.
- 21:51Speaker 26: The UNFPA official noted that Golo Hospital often runs short
- 21:55Speaker 26: of supplies, including anesthetic and oxytocin, which is used to
- 21:59Speaker 26: stop fatal bleeding during childbirth. UNFPA is calling for greater
- 22:04Speaker 26: support for mobile clinics and midwives who serve the vulnerable
- 22:08Speaker 26: and hard to reach communities in neighbouring South Sudan. Meanwhile,
- 22:12Speaker 26: more than six hundred and fifty thousand refugees and asylum
- 22:15Speaker 26: seekers risk losing further access to life saving food, nutrition
- 22:19Speaker 26: and other assistance because of funding shortfalls. Up to three
- 22:23Speaker 26: thousand refugees and returnees continue to arrive from Sudan each week,
- 22:27Speaker 26: placing further pressure on already overstretched humanitarian resources for refugees
- 22:32Speaker 26: and host communities. Food assistance is often the difference between
- 22:36Speaker 26: coping and crisis, said Adam Efendi from the UN World
- 22:39Speaker 26: Food Programme WFP in South Sudan. He said that urgent
- 22:43Speaker 26: support to save lives and livelihoods is vital to meet
- 22:46Speaker 26: essential needs and reduce long term dependence on humanitarian assistance
- 22:51Speaker 26: WFP has an immediate thirty seven million dollar funding gap
- 22:55Speaker 26: for its refugee response. Echoing those concerns, the UN Refugee
- 22:59Speaker 26: Agency us U in HCR said it has secured less
- 23:02Speaker 26: than a third of the two hundred and eighty six
- 23:04Speaker 26: million dollars it needs this year for asylum seekers and
- 23:07Speaker 26: others in SA Sudan. With war and conflict raging around
- 23:11Speaker 26: the world, it's perhaps no surprise that attacks on healthcare
- 23:14Speaker 26: and medical professionals are happening all too often too So far,
- 23:18Speaker 26: in twenty twenty six, the UN Wealth Health Organization WHO
- 23:22Speaker 26: has recorded more than nine hundred attacks, which have caused
- 23:25Speaker 26: at least nine hundred deaths and more than fourteen hundred injuries. Ukraine,
- 23:30Speaker 26: Lebanon and the Occupied Palestinian Territory account for the majority
- 23:33Speaker 26: of incidents, said the Health Agency's Altaf Messani. He highlighted
- 23:38Speaker 26: the immediate impact of these attacks on patient care and
- 23:41Speaker 26: other critical operations, such as efforts to halt the deadly
- 23:45Speaker 26: ebola outbreak in Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo, where
- 23:49Speaker 26: the disease has now spread to a sixth region in.
- 23:52Speaker 28: The Democratic Republic of Congo. During the Bola virus outbreak,
- 23:55Speaker 28: response twelve attacks on healthcare have been verified since the
- 23:59Speaker 28: day declaration of the outbreak in May twenty twenty six.
- 24:03Speaker 28: These attacks have disrupted surveillance, case investigation, contact tracing, treatment
- 24:09Speaker 28: and community engagements, but also further affecting the capacity to
- 24:13Speaker 28: detect and contain this outbreak.
- 24:16Speaker 26: The WHO official noted that in Gaza, all thirty six
- 24:20Speaker 26: hospitals have been damaged since war erupted between Hamas and
- 24:23Speaker 26: Israel in October twenty twenty three. Today, only half of
- 24:27Speaker 26: the enclave's hospitals are partially functional, just as with primary
- 24:31Speaker 26: healthcare services in Northwest Syria. Mister Missani said that the
- 24:35Speaker 26: immediate result of sixty nine attacks was that outpatient consultations
- 24:39Speaker 26: fell by fifty one percent the day after the attacks,
- 24:42Speaker 26: indicating that people are often too scared to seek medical assistance.
- 24:46Speaker 26: Daniel Johnson UN News.
- 24:48Speaker 4: Thank you very much. Daniel Johnson appears on Ruckus Avenue
- 24:52Speaker 4: Radio's show called The Bridge every Monday morning as part
- 24:55Speaker 4: of Ruckus Avenue Radio's partnership with the UN News Department.

- 39:05Speaker 22: I'm being well man? How are you keeping you all right?
- 39:07Speaker 4: Doing well? I see that the soccer has kicked up
- 39:10Speaker 4: in the UK, and uh, you know life is at
- 39:13Speaker 4: full speed over there, and all in all you know,
- 39:16Speaker 4: as we get ready for now back to school season
- 39:20Speaker 4: and the family stuff starts kicking in, it gives us
- 39:22Speaker 4: time to kind of ponder upon, you know, the different
- 39:26Speaker 4: generational intergenerational living that takes place in our households. I
- 39:30Speaker 4: know it's something that you guys are covering on your
- 39:32Speaker 4: show this week, you know, and I find that to
- 39:35Speaker 4: be a really fascinating topic. Sonny tell us about.
- 39:40Speaker 31: See that topic we're talking about on our show on
- 39:42Speaker 31: Funny and Shay. And unfortunately, we don't have a name
- 39:45Speaker 31: for the show at the moment because my wife got
- 39:47Speaker 31: involved and there it was called off the stream and
- 39:51Speaker 31: the stream we have a we have in the show
- 39:54Speaker 31: when you listen to the show. We have requested for
- 39:56Speaker 31: our listeners to come out with suggestion. So right now
- 39:59Speaker 31: it's called Funny and Shay untitled or unnamed podcast so great,
- 40:05Speaker 31: so we've just got unnamed at the moment, is called
- 40:08Speaker 31: and so that's why we're working with at the moment
- 40:10Speaker 31: until we get a appropriate name for our show.
- 40:13Speaker 22: And the reason why it's so important for our listeners
- 40:16Speaker 22: and also.
- 40:17Speaker 31: To get the right tone and the right name for
- 40:19Speaker 31: the show is because we do talk about these kind
- 40:21Speaker 31: of subjects that can be revisited many a time, moving
- 40:26Speaker 31: with like you know, the mood of the country, the
- 40:30Speaker 31: mood of the world, and the way that communities interact
- 40:33Speaker 31: with each other, and.
- 40:34Speaker 22: Everyone had this common kind of ground.
- 40:36Speaker 31: So you've seen is that there is a lot of
- 40:38Speaker 31: this conversation about you know, families living together for a
- 40:41Speaker 31: lot longer.
- 40:42Speaker 22: Be it economically, because.
- 40:44Speaker 31: Be it that you want to be home to be
- 40:47Speaker 31: a caregiver for your elderly parents, or you just went
- 40:51Speaker 31: out in the world and it doesn't seem to be
- 40:54Speaker 31: working out for you for whatever reason, it might be
- 40:56Speaker 31: your spouse or your partner or you know, your friends
- 41:01Speaker 31: circle or work related reasons that you have to leave
- 41:05Speaker 31: that city or that country and come back home. That's
- 41:08Speaker 31: called the boomerang sort of. You know, a generation that
- 41:12Speaker 31: come back home and they realize, I'm better off at home.
- 41:15Speaker 22: So there's this there's this.
- 41:17Speaker 31: Whole idea of like, you know, living with the family
- 41:21Speaker 31: and how important family is and it and it works
- 41:26Speaker 31: not only for the people who are coming back and
- 41:27Speaker 31: benefiting from living in the family home, but also you
- 41:30Speaker 31: have to look at from the perspective of the the
- 41:33Speaker 31: mother and father who thought right, they've gone Now we've
- 41:35Speaker 31: got our life back.
- 41:36Speaker 22: We can convert that room into a gym.
- 41:37Speaker 31: I can finally do the pottery bar that I always wanted.
- 41:40Speaker 31: I've got no one I can walk around naked because
- 41:42Speaker 31: I got no kids in the house, right. So there's
- 41:45Speaker 31: so many different aspects of this conversation that affects everyone
- 41:48Speaker 31: in the household. And and then that's the that's the
- 41:52Speaker 31: discussion we're having on our show, Sonny and Shay, you know, untitled,
- 41:57Speaker 31: which is what we're working with at the moment on
- 42:00Speaker 31: our show.
- 42:00Speaker 22: And we got some sack.
- 42:02Speaker 31: We you know, we go through the terminologies that these
- 42:05Speaker 31: phrases have been out there, like you know, there's a
- 42:07Speaker 31: there's a sandwich generation, there's a boomerang, like I just
- 42:10Speaker 31: said to you, and there's also intergenerational that people who
- 42:13Speaker 31: just stay with.
- 42:14Speaker 22: Them like me, I'm always I've always been with my family.
- 42:17Speaker 31: I've lived in the family home all my life with
- 42:19Speaker 31: my mom and my dad. There was a period of
- 42:22Speaker 31: time where I had to move away during the course
- 42:24Speaker 31: of the week and I was in Birmingham, which is
- 42:27Speaker 31: about two hours away from my family home, and I
- 42:30Speaker 31: was working at the BBCWM and I worked there with
- 42:35Speaker 31: Shay and we moved into a flat and we were
- 42:37Speaker 31: there for about four days of the week, and then
- 42:39Speaker 31: we would come back home and and uh. And it's
- 42:42Speaker 31: funny because when we were there for four days, it
- 42:44Speaker 31: felt like we were living there as independently, But then
- 42:47Speaker 31: we always had the benefit of coming back on the
- 42:49Speaker 31: weekend and we were in our normal setup that we
- 42:52Speaker 31: always had, So we sort of lived.
- 42:54Speaker 22: These two lives.
- 42:56Speaker 16: Uh uh.
- 42:57Speaker 31: And we realized very quickly when Mum got sick that
- 43:02Speaker 31: I wouldn't have had any other way than just being here.
- 43:04Speaker 31: And if I had to move back in actually leaving
- 43:07Speaker 31: the family home, I think it would have been a
- 43:08Speaker 31: bit more of an adjustment, but.
- 43:09Speaker 22: It was never an adjustment. Sure, Sure we were there,
- 43:12Speaker 22: we were there half a week. Yeah, So we're discussing
- 43:17Speaker 22: that sort of thing, you know, you and I, we're.
- 43:19Speaker 4: Having that You and I are talking about this in
- 43:22Speaker 4: the greater context of maybe our countries or in the
- 43:26Speaker 4: in the culture at large perhaps, But suddenly we've been
- 43:29Speaker 4: doing this in our communities and our families for I
- 43:32Speaker 4: don't know how many generations.
- 43:33Speaker 22: Right.
- 43:34Speaker 4: It's it's something that we're kind of familiar with. It's
- 43:36Speaker 4: an outfit that we're used to having it around us,
- 43:39Speaker 4: and you know, even going forward, I feel like, you know,
- 43:42Speaker 4: everything's kind of circling back to that way of life
- 43:44Speaker 4: again if you will. Isn't it ironic?
- 43:48Speaker 22: Oh, it's ironic. But also you see certain families and
- 43:51Speaker 22: communities it's so practical. I mean, like I know that.
- 43:55Speaker 22: You know, look how our brothers and sisters who are.
- 43:58Speaker 31: Hispanic and Mexican they do that. They are very much
- 44:02Speaker 31: the you know, the archetype for those families who go
- 44:06Speaker 31: abroad for a better life and then they invite their
- 44:08Speaker 31: families over so they can make support. And the Punjabi
- 44:12Speaker 31: community have been doing that. I mean the first I
- 44:14Speaker 31: think the first generation of the Punjabi community that went
- 44:19Speaker 31: to La they could not bring their families over from
- 44:22Speaker 31: India because there was a law against that. And so
- 44:25Speaker 31: what they did was they they realized that the Mexican
- 44:29Speaker 31: you know women are just like the women from back
- 44:31Speaker 31: in Punjab and they are family orientated. And then you
- 44:34Speaker 31: saw a lot of these you know, uh men would
- 44:38Speaker 31: marry Mexican women and it would start with them and
- 44:42Speaker 31: so so this kind of intergenerational living or living with
- 44:47Speaker 31: your extended family.
- 44:49Speaker 22: There's so many communities around the world that actually live
- 44:53Speaker 22: like this.
- 44:54Speaker 31: It just never talked about because we are so influenced
- 44:56Speaker 31: by the West way of telling stories, these films that
- 44:59Speaker 31: have very much traveled around the world and.
- 45:02Speaker 22: Thinking this is the archetype way of living.
- 45:04Speaker 31: And you know, Hollywood does a really good way of
- 45:07Speaker 31: you know, giving them giving the world that part of
- 45:11Speaker 31: the culture that sometimes we feel that we need to
- 45:15Speaker 31: inspire to, but not realizing we're losing something that is
- 45:18Speaker 31: more valuable sometimes and seeing there might be a middle
- 45:21Speaker 31: ground where you can have what that is, but you
- 45:24Speaker 31: can also see the benefit and what you can get
- 45:27Speaker 31: from living with a bigger, extended family and the wisdom
- 45:31Speaker 31: that holds itself.
- 45:32Speaker 4: It's funny, sunny. I'm going to bring up one last
- 45:34Speaker 4: question for you. It's and it's in reaction to something
- 45:39Speaker 4: that I happened to see out there on social media
- 45:41Speaker 4: which talked about life that we live through the you know,
- 45:46Speaker 4: the spectrum of the sitcom and what they said was
- 45:50Speaker 4: a lot of the seventies and eighties and even in
- 45:53Speaker 4: the nineties shows were based around family and community of
- 45:57Speaker 4: the family. And then can you say right, then came
- 46:02Speaker 4: the show Friends. Then came the show which which was
- 46:05Speaker 4: so individualistic, it was like, Hey, you don't need family,
- 46:08Speaker 4: you need six other friends in a coffee shop and
- 46:11Speaker 4: you can make it in life, right, that's your community Seinfeld.
- 46:16Speaker 22: Nothing correct with the three.
- 46:19Speaker 4: It became so individual and it was almost like a riff.
- 46:23Speaker 4: But I feel like it's coming back to that family
- 46:25Speaker 4: thing again and to kind of speaking to what you're
- 46:27Speaker 4: talking about. And even though we saw it play it
- 46:29Speaker 4: out there in the culture like this through television, Yeah,
- 46:33Speaker 4: is it time to return to the other version of
- 46:35Speaker 4: it all?
- 46:36Speaker 22: But think is do you have a choice at some point?
- 46:38Speaker 22: You know what I mean?
- 46:40Speaker 31: I think there was a time where I'm going to
- 46:43Speaker 31: talk about America here for a minute and not just
- 46:45Speaker 31: talk about the whole world. If you talk about America
- 46:48Speaker 31: in the forties and fifties and sixties, there was this
- 46:51Speaker 31: one you could have that, you know, that life where
- 46:55Speaker 31: the dad goes back to work and he made enough
- 46:58Speaker 31: money to not only own a house, go on a vacation,
- 47:02Speaker 31: bring his kids up, with his wife being in the
- 47:06Speaker 31: most important part of that family. That bought you know,
- 47:10Speaker 31: the stability and the management of uh the children in
- 47:15Speaker 31: the household, and also the husband of giving him peace
- 47:19Speaker 31: of mind that he can go and do that.
- 47:21Speaker 22: But right now what we're seeing is one job doesn't
- 47:23Speaker 22: cut it.
- 47:24Speaker 31: There's people in America right now who have like three
- 47:27Speaker 31: jobs and they still are time to make ends meet.
- 47:31Speaker 31: So this idea of is it a choice, I think
- 47:36Speaker 31: the choice was taken away a long time ago. When
- 47:38Speaker 31: CONSUMERI isn't taken over, and that trickle down economics that
- 47:42Speaker 31: was preached, it's not trickling. There seems to be a
- 47:46Speaker 31: dam somewhere and it seems to be filling up a
- 47:48Speaker 31: lot higher, and the rest of the rivers and the
- 47:52Speaker 31: and the and the canals aren't getting that war at
- 47:56Speaker 31: the moment until something drastic happens, so that we.
- 47:59Speaker 22: Can get back to that free flowing river that was
- 48:01Speaker 22: there in the.
- 48:02Speaker 31: Fifties, sixties and seventies, sorry fifty sixties, forty fifties and sixties,
- 48:06Speaker 31: where one person could hold a family together on a
- 48:10Speaker 31: basic job of just being.
- 48:12Speaker 22: A milkman or being a postman. You didn't have to
- 48:15Speaker 22: go and do other things, you know what I mean.
- 48:17Speaker 31: And when we get back to that stage again where
- 48:20Speaker 31: everyone can sort of live a life where it's not
- 48:24Speaker 31: all about work, it's about also the other side of work,
- 48:27Speaker 31: where you.
- 48:27Speaker 22: Can spend quality time with your family. Maybe this is
- 48:29Speaker 22: how we get back to that.
- 48:31Speaker 31: You start at home with that mentality that we have
- 48:33Speaker 31: to look after each other, and that can go out
- 48:35Speaker 31: in the workplace and in society itself.
- 48:38Speaker 4: We'll keep this conversation going on the Sonny and Shade
- 48:41Speaker 4: Show untitled for now. Sonny, thank you so much for
- 48:46Speaker 4: joining us today on a Monday.

- 51:13Speaker 4: Great collaboration, Jed there Simmeren Chadry one of my favorite
- 51:17Speaker 4: collaborations amongst two South Asian artists on one track. It
- 51:21Speaker 4: really is. It's a well done song. Simmron is a
- 51:25Speaker 4: star out there, as of course, are one of our
- 51:28Speaker 4: favorite buddies here on the show. Dead there all right, folks. Now,
- 51:31Speaker 4: let's bring Inditada into the program and as you guys know,
- 51:35Speaker 4: every day she does an artist spotlight for you where
- 51:38Speaker 4: we break down the backstory of some of these great
- 51:41Speaker 4: artists that we play here on the Bridge. How are you, Douita?
- 51:44Speaker 5: Thanks Sammy, Hey, we want this is your Rokasavna Radio
- 51:49Speaker 5: Music Churs fun and back with some fun facts about
- 51:51Speaker 5: your favorite artists. We're talking about Hassan Rahim, the point
- 51:55Speaker 5: five architect from Kilgate shaping Pakistani indie pop one heart
- 51:59Speaker 5: cell track at a time. He graduated from med school
- 52:02Speaker 5: but chose melodies over music and trust us, it's been
- 52:05Speaker 5: a blessing. With indie classes say Juna, Saltupier and the
- 52:09Speaker 5: Viyral pach Hut on Cooke Studio, he became the gen
- 52:12Speaker 5: z hero of emotional pop. Recently he dropped Memories featuring
- 52:16Speaker 5: Justin Biebe's and Shara Khan. Nostalgic lyrics, mellow grooves and
- 52:20Speaker 5: visuals that look straight out of a dream. The fan
- 52:22Speaker 5: responds to immediate love and millions of these within weeks.
- 52:26Speaker 5: He also bless Villo Soundstation season three with Phil Ruba,
- 52:29Speaker 5: a stunning duet with Anael Khalid. Hassan Rahim doesn't chase chrends.
- 52:33Speaker 5: He crafts intimate zibes, poetic lines and emotional waves, bridging
- 52:37Speaker 5: Karachi clubs to Kilgate Hills. Well that's all for me.
- 52:41Speaker 5: Now back to you, Sammy, Thank you so much.
- 52:44Speaker 4: Do the Hassan Rahim great artist. We play him quite
- 52:50Speaker 4: a bit here on this show. This particular song right
- 52:53Speaker 4: here was a collaboration with Cooke Studios. The song is
- 52:57Speaker 4: called beach Hut.
- 53:02Speaker 1: I painted pictures. I said to man, you have a
- 53:05Speaker 1: rookain kiss for you may have to marry Picture Picture
- 53:10Speaker 1: Honey to the coast. He wasn't a retail fast he

- 56:35Speaker 4: will celebrate the Big six hundred with one of the
- 56:40Speaker 4: most underwhelming celebrations that I'm sure you will see. The
- 56:43Speaker 4: Big five hundred and fiftieth, we had Madori dixit, and
- 56:46Speaker 4: I figured there was just no way of topping that
- 56:48Speaker 4: the six hundredth episode would be a letdown. I'm just kidding. Tomorrow,
- 56:54Speaker 4: we'll have a few of our friends stop by. We'll
- 56:57Speaker 4: keep the party going just like this. Right here, Jet
