- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to episode one forty one of
- 0:18Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I am My Coolard from Baseball Prospectus,
- 0:22Speaker 1: and I am joined by my very good friend, as always,
- 0:25Speaker 1: Jeremy Brewer from Rasball.
- 0:27Speaker 2: How you doing today, buddy.
- 0:29Speaker 3: I am doing fantastic. Outside of the joke that we
- 0:33Speaker 3: have here is I just lost power. We started to
- 0:35Speaker 3: record this in a wonderful sunny day in central Illinois,
- 0:38Speaker 3: and so we are rolling with the punches, but we're
- 0:42Speaker 3: still gonna report with the podcast because baseball has to
- 0:45Speaker 3: move on. So I'm here ready, but I'm also winging
- 0:49Speaker 3: it without the ability to look up all my stats.
- 0:52Speaker 4: So this is gonna be a fun one for.
- 0:53Speaker 2: You, all right.
- 0:54Speaker 1: Yeah, nice, I can maybe find some holes within your
- 0:57Speaker 1: analysis and then pull them apart really quickly. So I
- 1:01Speaker 1: have that advantage to me because obviously every one of
- 1:04Speaker 1: our podcasts is like a chess match, not.
- 1:08Speaker 2: A tag team.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And yeah, so that's a good, good heads up for
- 1:12Speaker 1: everybody that the American electrical system has failed us here.
- 1:16Speaker 1: And so if you are noticing that the audio is
- 1:20Speaker 1: just a tick off for brew that is why I
- 1:23Speaker 1: apologies to everybody that uses this podcast as an ASMR
- 1:27Speaker 1: or reason, well hopefully not reason, but a little bit
- 1:31Speaker 1: of like a lulla by to help you get off
- 1:34Speaker 1: into sleep. So yeah, we've got a great show lined up.
- 1:38Speaker 1: It is our first one post Memorial Day. We are
- 1:40Speaker 1: speaking here on Wednesday, May twenty seventh, so we've got Honestly,
- 1:46Speaker 1: it feels like maybe people just got less injured over
- 1:48Speaker 1: the weekend. It does feel like maybe this is also
- 1:52Speaker 1: a little bit of like the time of the season.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It feels like where the injuries slowed down a little
- 1:58Speaker 1: bit because maybe the things that we're already gonna pop
- 2:01Speaker 1: and spraying on all the players already has done so.
- 2:04Speaker 1: But what is your feeling, Ben? It has been a
- 2:08Speaker 1: brutal kind of a couple of months as we've been
- 2:10Speaker 1: doing all these injury updates and figuring out who's getting
- 2:14Speaker 1: called up and how it's going to affect all of
- 2:15Speaker 1: our different fantasy player pools.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But it has felt a lot.
- 2:20Speaker 1: More steady recently as well as like we're starting to
- 2:23Speaker 1: get that wave of guys back from spring training. So
- 2:27Speaker 1: how's your your injuries been impacting your teams? As we're
- 2:31Speaker 1: sitting right now in Memorial.
- 2:32Speaker 3: Day, it honestly hasn't felt as bad as in years past.
- 2:37Speaker 3: I think you're right, like guys are getting healthy. We've
- 2:40Speaker 3: had our affair share of smaller injuries. But I also
- 2:43Speaker 3: feel like the crop has been called up in the
- 2:45Speaker 3: minor leagues has been so strong this year that a
- 2:49Speaker 3: lot of those guys are just filling in. And it's
- 2:51Speaker 3: not even just the big names of the Mcgonagalls, the Griffins,
- 2:54Speaker 3: the weather Holts and guys like that.
- 2:56Speaker 4: It's that next tier of guys.
- 2:59Speaker 3: And I know more got called up that we'll talk about,
- 3:02Speaker 3: and I think that's really helped us out with some
- 3:05Speaker 3: of the maybe disappointing performances and things like that. But
- 3:08Speaker 3: it does feel like maybe the outside of the pitching side,
- 3:10Speaker 3: so I feel like we feel still had plenty of
- 3:12Speaker 3: pitching injuries, but that's just kind of the name of
- 3:15Speaker 3: the game. But it feels like the obliques have held
- 3:17Speaker 3: up relatively well so far all things considered, and you know,
- 3:23Speaker 3: it's not like what I think we've had in the
- 3:25Speaker 3: pastor it feels like you need six to eight.
- 3:27Speaker 4: D L spots for your team. So I think we're
- 3:33Speaker 4: weathering it. The warm weather also helps us, is it
- 3:36Speaker 4: warms up here for the summer.
- 3:39Speaker 3: You tend to see guys get less hurt and they're
- 3:42Speaker 3: not trying to force themselves through like a Minnesota winter
- 3:45Speaker 3: type of thing up here.
- 3:47Speaker 4: So yeah, I.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Think we are in a happy slot for the injuries
- 3:53Speaker 3: for the season and then where it gets to the
- 3:55Speaker 3: middle of summer where people are starting to break down
- 3:56Speaker 3: and get overheated and overdo things and we're going to
- 3:58Speaker 3: go back the other way. So the next month is
- 4:01Speaker 3: the sweet spot in my mind.
- 4:03Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's all very fair.
- 4:04Speaker 1: And on top of it too, you did mention some
- 4:08Speaker 1: of the just youth movement that has happened throughout the league.
- 4:11Speaker 1: I think they've recently just talked about that on the
- 4:14Speaker 1: newest Effectively Wild this week, where Ben Lundberg actually did
- 4:17Speaker 1: a little bit of like analysis where the war totals
- 4:20Speaker 1: for especially like one of the most recent drafts, I
- 4:23Speaker 1: think it was twenty twenty four that the war totals
- 4:26Speaker 1: after two years for that draft has been on a
- 4:29Speaker 1: pretty historic pace. And so I think you're starting to
- 4:32Speaker 1: see that just throughout the league as well as players
- 4:34Speaker 1: are getting up quicker and quicker because of just the
- 4:37Speaker 1: carving out of the minor league levels that you know,
- 4:40Speaker 1: there's fewer levels to go through, and so when players
- 4:44Speaker 1: with talent are evaluated, they move through systems much more
- 4:47Speaker 1: quickly there's fewer players in front of them. So yeah,
- 4:50Speaker 1: I think that is all kind of lining up to
- 4:53Speaker 1: help us out on the fantasy side, because I think
- 4:55Speaker 1: it also impacted a little bit of like the draft season,
- 4:57Speaker 1: which we're going to do a little bit of like
- 4:58Speaker 1: a post hot analysis on some top one hundred bats
- 5:02Speaker 1: as our main topic in the second half of today's pod,
- 5:05Speaker 1: where we're gonna look at some top one hundred, especially bats.
- 5:08Speaker 1: There's a couple of arms too, but I'm focused a
- 5:11Speaker 1: little bit less on those because pitchers are pitchers, and
- 5:14Speaker 1: they're very volatile, and you're not used to top one
- 5:18Speaker 1: hundred pick bats being quite as volatile, I think, as
- 5:21Speaker 1: they have been this year. And so we've got some
- 5:23Speaker 1: names we're gonna analyze just to see if there's anything
- 5:26Speaker 1: to learn from them and looking back at what the
- 5:29Speaker 1: profile was during the draft season, as well as what
- 5:32Speaker 1: we're projecting for some of these players going through the
- 5:35Speaker 1: rest of the year. So before we do that, we're
- 5:37Speaker 1: going to do our typical news and note section, and
- 5:40Speaker 1: as you alluded to, we've got some pretty cool call
- 5:43Speaker 1: ups to be able to add to our fantasy rosters
- 5:46Speaker 1: out there.
- 5:47Speaker 2: First one is in.
- 5:49Speaker 1: Sacramento, where the Athletics called up their recent twenty twenty
- 5:53Speaker 1: four pick from the second round, Gauge Jump, who was
- 5:58Speaker 1: doing pretty well within the minor leagues before this call up.
- 6:02Speaker 1: It was a especially the strikeouts were nice. It was
- 6:04Speaker 1: a thirty three zero point one percent k rate. But
- 6:07Speaker 1: then even before then, because he actually struggled out the
- 6:11Speaker 1: gate that like, I noted that in some of the
- 6:15Speaker 1: work that I did for BP as well as you
- 6:17Speaker 1: saw it on my one of my teams, I had
- 6:19Speaker 1: Gauge Jump in my minor league spot and then dropped him.
- 6:22Speaker 1: But especially since the or over the last six outings
- 6:26Speaker 1: that he put up in the miners, it was a
- 6:28Speaker 1: much better forty to fifteen K to B B rate
- 6:34Speaker 1: over twenty seven and two thirds innings. The forty strikeouts
- 6:37Speaker 1: especially stood out. The fastball was hot, looked pretty solid
- 6:40Speaker 1: in his debut this week against Seattle at home. That
- 6:44Speaker 1: is going to be the struggle I think with Gage
- 6:46Speaker 1: Jump is that it's going to be pretty tough to
- 6:48Speaker 1: use him at Sacramento for any of his starts over
- 6:52Speaker 1: the next couple of months while it's hot. But it
- 6:55Speaker 1: was five innings, gave up three runs their four runs
- 7:00Speaker 1: but struck out five. And the FIP is much better
- 7:04Speaker 1: than the e RA right now where the ERA is
- 7:06Speaker 1: seven twenty. The FIP was at a two two eight
- 7:08Speaker 1: Uh decent ground ball rate, good good fastball, big old
- 7:13Speaker 1: nasty slider. What are you doing with Gage Jump and
- 7:16Speaker 1: what level of league are you interested in him?
- 7:20Speaker 4: Yeah?
- 7:21Speaker 3: I think Gage Junk is definitely a high potential product.
- 7:25Speaker 3: I think there's gonna like he's gonna have some some
- 7:28Speaker 3: learning curve for sure, some growing pains that he has
- 7:31Speaker 3: to go through. The fastball is dynamic, the strikeouse sells great.
- 7:35Speaker 3: He has two good breaking pitches that go along with it.
- 7:38Speaker 3: But it's a question of that control controls decent last
- 7:42Speaker 3: year it's been strolls year, and that that's going to
- 7:47Speaker 3: be potentially the downfall. So I think he's more of
- 7:49Speaker 3: a streamer in twelve teamers, definitely worth the go in
- 7:53Speaker 3: fifteen teamers or or ale only leagues.
- 7:57Speaker 4: If you can get him in the only leagues as well,
- 7:59Speaker 4: then I don't think to be available. So I definite think.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Longer term guy that's definitely on that high watch list.
- 8:08Speaker 3: You know, he could if he figures a few things out,
- 8:09Speaker 3: he could be a dynamic starter. But for this year
- 8:12Speaker 3: it's more watch spot starter, pick pick your battles to
- 8:16Speaker 3: your point, and probably not a home home, maybe playing
- 8:20Speaker 3: in Seattle type of thing. So I'm kind of in
- 8:24Speaker 3: watch mode and twelve teamers, maybe stream mode, but definitely
- 8:28Speaker 3: playing the game in fifteen teamers for me.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Okay, yep, I think that's exactly where I am at too,
- 8:34Speaker 1: all Right. The next call off we have is in Arizona,
- 8:36Speaker 1: where I mean there wasn't injury related to it, but
- 8:38Speaker 1: was Luris Guriel going down and hasn't been too much
- 8:42Speaker 1: of an impact bat for fantasy for us this year.
- 8:45Speaker 1: In his stead we get Tommy Troy, who is coming up.
- 8:49Speaker 1: Even though he came through the system as an infielder
- 8:51Speaker 1: mostly a second baseman shortstop, they've been playing him a
- 8:56Speaker 1: little bit in the outfield, and then they said, Tommy Troy,
- 8:58Speaker 1: go ahead and play outfield full time for.
- 9:00Speaker 2: US at the major leagues.
- 9:02Speaker 1: So the Dbacks are also in a nice spot. They've
- 9:04Speaker 1: been hot recently and have moved their way into second
- 9:07Speaker 1: place in the NL West, and Tommy Troy this is
- 9:11Speaker 1: a great opportunity, a solid bat who was hitting three
- 9:15Speaker 1: oh seven, three ninety seven, four forty nine in Triple
- 9:18Speaker 1: A before the call up because it was the PCL
- 9:20Speaker 1: that was only a one ZHO nine WRC plus. But
- 9:23Speaker 1: he's always had some good back control, even in his
- 9:26Speaker 1: draft year out of Stanford, that's what he was known for.
- 9:30Speaker 1: The prospect grade on his hit tool is a forty
- 9:33Speaker 1: five future from Fangrafts, and then the power is pretty
- 9:37Speaker 1: solid to forty current, fifty future on the game power
- 9:41Speaker 1: sixty speed because last year he put up twenty four
- 9:43Speaker 1: stolen bases for the d Backs across a couple of levels,
- 9:47Speaker 1: had stolen six stolen, had stolen six spaces before his
- 9:50Speaker 1: call up. Uh and in his first four games has
- 9:53Speaker 1: looked pretty solid. Roped a couple doubles, gotten home five times,
- 9:58Speaker 1: and it's slashing four seventeen five three. Also, I mean,
- 10:02Speaker 1: if you've got only five games for starting eligibility, he's
- 10:06Speaker 1: about to pick up outfield tomorrow. Oh no, they have
- 10:09Speaker 1: an off dake tomorrow, so he's gonna pick it up
- 10:11Speaker 1: on Friday. Because it does appear that he is truly
- 10:14Speaker 1: the everyday left fielder for the Arizona Dbacks. So Tommy Troy,
- 10:18Speaker 1: what's your interest level with him?
- 10:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Tommy Troy is it's gonna come down
- 10:25Speaker 3: to if he keeps the job, because it's a big thing.
- 10:27Speaker 4: How long Guryel's out does.
- 10:29Speaker 3: He come back and kind of you know, he he
- 10:31Speaker 3: moves back to kind of bench or every few day
- 10:34Speaker 3: versatility guy, which is I think is probably where he's
- 10:37Speaker 3: going to land, at least in the short term.
- 10:39Speaker 4: He doesn't have a you know, one big carrying tool.
- 10:41Speaker 3: He has a little bit of pop, he has a
- 10:44Speaker 3: little bit of speed, has some good play control, like
- 10:47Speaker 3: decent average, but he's he's probably a better real world
- 10:51Speaker 3: player than he is a fantasy player. I think he's
- 10:53Speaker 3: a really interesting middle infielder type of guy.
- 10:57Speaker 4: But I don't think he's a guy that's gonna blow
- 10:59Speaker 4: you away.
- 10:59Speaker 3: So I'm willing to invest in him if I need to,
- 11:03Speaker 3: you know, especially that super utility guy who's got a
- 11:05Speaker 3: few positions once he gets that outfhil eligibility. I think
- 11:08Speaker 3: that's really my interest level in Tommy Troy, mainly because
- 11:12Speaker 3: I don't know that he's going to get a full
- 11:15Speaker 3: run once career Ell gets back. I think he's kind
- 11:17Speaker 3: of he's not as big of a prospect as you know,
- 11:20Speaker 3: Welchman when he came up for the d Backs. I
- 11:23Speaker 3: think Troy is definitely a few steps back, but it's
- 11:26Speaker 3: gonna be kind of that solid utility player over.
- 11:29Speaker 4: The next few years.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I think I'm a tick higher on
- 11:32Speaker 1: Troy than you, just because the pedigree is there. The
- 11:36Speaker 1: other factor here is actually Jordan Lawler should be back
- 11:39Speaker 1: in going out on a rehab assignment relatively soon. It
- 11:42Speaker 1: sounds like he's doing on field batting practice this past week,
- 11:46Speaker 1: and so that does indicate he should be getting out
- 11:48Speaker 1: on a probably a two or three week rehab stint
- 11:51Speaker 1: considering the extent of that fractured wrist. So it might
- 11:55Speaker 1: be a little bit of a runway where you get
- 11:58Speaker 1: two or three weeks all time Troy, and I think
- 12:01Speaker 1: it's a good time to kind of dip your toe
- 12:03Speaker 1: in that pool and start him if you can, because
- 12:05Speaker 1: I think he's got a decent hit tool, decent amount
- 12:09Speaker 1: of speed. Maybe the power will be a tick lacking
- 12:12Speaker 1: in this first year here, but you're looking at a
- 12:15Speaker 1: pre solid m I I think, and then on top
- 12:18Speaker 1: of it, like you got to wonder like when the
- 12:21Speaker 1: Ildemaro Vargas train kind of runs out of steam. Adrian
- 12:24Speaker 1: delt Castillo has been dhing for this team and it
- 12:28Speaker 1: has not been great. Jose Fernandez has totally fallen apart
- 12:31Speaker 1: as we kind of expected. So there are pathways to
- 12:35Speaker 1: playing time for Tommy Troy, but it is getting a
- 12:38Speaker 1: little bit crowded in Arizona, especially when Lawler and Gury
- 12:42Speaker 1: I'll get back, So just kind of keep that in
- 12:44Speaker 1: mind that I like him, but when he's got the
- 12:46Speaker 1: playing time sort of thing. Okay, let's get into some
- 12:51Speaker 1: injuries now, because even though I was saying maybe there
- 12:54Speaker 1: were a few of them, I think we still got
- 12:57Speaker 1: a handful to talk about, especially ones that are going
- 12:59Speaker 1: to be really impactful for our fantasy game. First one,
- 13:03Speaker 1: it's kind of nuts that this is as impactful as
- 13:06Speaker 1: it has been on all of us fantasy players. Is
- 13:10Speaker 1: Ryan Jeffers is leading off the injury list. Of the
- 13:14Speaker 1: list of injuries, we're going to run through catcher for
- 13:17Speaker 1: the Minnesota Twins, and boy was he saving a bunch
- 13:20Speaker 1: of people's butts out there who had been struggling for
- 13:24Speaker 1: catching stats and catching at bats because it had we
- 13:27Speaker 1: discussed it the other week where things have really fallen
- 13:30Speaker 1: apart on the catching end, and it's gotten. It's forced
- 13:33Speaker 1: us to get into some pretty deep territories like Adrian
- 13:36Speaker 1: Telcstio and lots of leagues. Jeffers was mashing two ninety
- 13:40Speaker 1: five four eight five forty one slash line with a
- 13:42Speaker 1: one to sixty six WRC plus had us even walk
- 13:46Speaker 1: and strikeout rate at fifteen point six percent, had jack
- 13:50Speaker 1: seven bombs and thirty seven games. This is a broken
- 13:54Speaker 1: handmate bone that Ryan Jeffers is dealing with. So we've
- 13:57Speaker 1: talked about this plenty this year, as it's been the
- 14:00Speaker 1: year the hamdmate, where not only does the handmate bone
- 14:03Speaker 1: knock you out for six eight weeks, but then there's
- 14:04Speaker 1: the recovery period afterwards, which honestly makes it that I think,
- 14:09Speaker 1: if you are running out of space, you could probably
- 14:11Speaker 1: drop Ryan Jeffers. Unfortunately, because you add up two months
- 14:15Speaker 1: to the return you're looking at in early August, and
- 14:18Speaker 1: then after that, who knows what that power is gonna
- 14:21Speaker 1: look like. I like Ryan Jeffers WHA's shown this year
- 14:23Speaker 1: going forward into twenties twenty seven, but for this year
- 14:26Speaker 1: it might be tough sledding for the rest of the
- 14:28Speaker 1: time with Jeffers.
- 14:29Speaker 2: What do you think?
- 14:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I think you're right there on Ryan Jeffers. I
- 14:32Speaker 3: think he's gonna be back probably early August. It's gonna
- 14:34Speaker 3: be a month time frame for him to get up
- 14:36Speaker 3: full and running in your second maybe a one month
- 14:39Speaker 3: in September. Of Like what we've seen with Jeffers so far,
- 14:43Speaker 3: he's been great. He's you know, I'm probably been one
- 14:45Speaker 3: of the top five catchers this season, but it is
- 14:49Speaker 3: gonna be a hard sledging to really trust him and
- 14:53Speaker 3: wait for him to come back so.
- 14:56Speaker 4: And see.
- 14:57Speaker 3: But I don't think I'm being a fault in moving
- 15:00Speaker 3: on Ryan Jeffers at this point. Maybe you're in a
- 15:03Speaker 3: dynasty type league and this is the kind of guy
- 15:06Speaker 3: you want to go after, but the catchup position has
- 15:09Speaker 3: been so fickle that I would probably just not be
- 15:12Speaker 3: trying to invest in Jeffers at this point and waiting
- 15:15Speaker 3: until next year twenty seven to see. Really what is
- 15:18Speaker 3: to play so ham bones, they are. They're a problem child,
- 15:21Speaker 3: that's for sure.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Yeah, I think we're on the relative same page there. Okay,
- 15:27Speaker 1: next injury we have is also just it's a little
- 15:30Speaker 1: Bunkers that we have to discuss this player going down
- 15:34Speaker 1: as like a significant fantasy asset for everybody out there,
- 15:38Speaker 1: But Mickey Moniac was doing it and again in Colorado
- 15:41Speaker 1: it was a two eighty three thirty five six h
- 15:43Speaker 1: seven slash nine, a one forty six WRC plus twelve
- 15:47Speaker 1: bombs in his forty three games, was on pace to
- 15:51Speaker 1: be a mid twenties to thirty homer bat. And the
- 15:56Speaker 1: renaissance for Mickey Moniac and Colorado has been something else.
- 15:59Speaker 1: I mean, not only can you obviously start him when
- 16:02Speaker 1: he's playing in Colorado, but he's been decent enough where like,
- 16:06Speaker 1: he's not killing you when they're out of Colorado, and
- 16:09Speaker 1: he can be a viable ten or twelve team League
- 16:13Speaker 1: league player. So we've got an ankle injury here for
- 16:17Speaker 1: Mickey Moniac. We don't know necessarily what the extent of
- 16:21Speaker 1: the injury is.
- 16:23Speaker 2: It is.
- 16:23Speaker 1: They're calling it tendonitis right now, so my guess would
- 16:27Speaker 1: be a couple of weeks and from there we'll kind
- 16:29Speaker 1: of reassess. But Brew, what do you think about Mickey Moniac.
- 16:33Speaker 1: Has he gotten to a level of dependability and quality
- 16:36Speaker 1: for you where you can trust him enough in even
- 16:39Speaker 1: the shallowest of leagues.
- 16:42Speaker 3: Yeah, I think Moniac probably is an All league player
- 16:45Speaker 3: at this point. It's hard to believe, and it's kind
- 16:48Speaker 3: of hard to trust because it just the pedigree was high,
- 16:52Speaker 3: but the early results weren't there. I don't want to
- 16:54Speaker 3: compare him to like a Jordan Walker, but it seems
- 16:56Speaker 3: like he has kind of figured some things out, so
- 16:58Speaker 3: I think you have to trust some especially in cores.
- 17:02Speaker 3: You have to trust him there. Hopely this injury isn't
- 17:05Speaker 3: something that's gonna nag him and kind of bring that down.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I think you're always gonna run some risk of hot
- 17:10Speaker 3: and cold spells with money act. But at this point,
- 17:13Speaker 3: I think we have to trust him. I think we
- 17:14Speaker 3: have to be living with this guy. Am I gonna
- 17:17Speaker 3: probably throw my top one hundred bots? Probably not. I
- 17:19Speaker 3: don't think I can quite get there. But I think
- 17:22Speaker 3: he is a guy that we have to trust and
- 17:25Speaker 3: treat as a fourth or fifth outfield for sure.
- 17:27Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay, yeah, that's that's crazy. I can't.
- 17:30Speaker 1: I just like it breaks my brain that like that's
- 17:32Speaker 1: where Mickeumoniac has come to.
- 17:34Speaker 2: But congrats to him.
- 17:35Speaker 1: It's it's a far cry from what I thought he
- 17:37Speaker 1: would be when he came through that Philly system. Okay,
- 17:41Speaker 1: next injury we have is Dylan Cees going down with
- 17:43Speaker 1: a hamstring injury. And so as I know, because I've
- 17:48Speaker 1: been using this new box score email is what I mean.
- 17:53Speaker 1: That's literally the address of the website is boxscore dot
- 17:57Speaker 1: email slash MLB where this guy developed something that pumps
- 18:01Speaker 1: out a daily box score and sends it right to
- 18:04Speaker 1: your email, or you can go to the website. I'll
- 18:06Speaker 1: put a link in the show notes so you can
- 18:07Speaker 1: check it out if you want.
- 18:09Speaker 2: But I love it.
- 18:11Speaker 1: It's like reading the newspaper when we were kids and
- 18:14Speaker 1: just was able to get an entire page of newsprint
- 18:17Speaker 1: that gave you all the stats in terms of the standings,
- 18:19Speaker 1: the league leaders, and the full box scores from every
- 18:22Speaker 1: game along with the transactions. What I had learned from
- 18:26Speaker 1: that is that Dylan Cees is your American League leader
- 18:29Speaker 1: in strikeouts with ninety two on total for the season
- 18:32Speaker 1: coming into today. It's been incredible before he went down
- 18:36Speaker 1: with this hamstring strain. A three H five ERA, A
- 18:39Speaker 1: two fifty six fifth, sixty two total innings with a
- 18:42Speaker 1: K minus BB of twenty five point six A career
- 18:46Speaker 1: high where the Blue Jays have really rounded the corner
- 18:49Speaker 1: into one of the elite kind of pitching clubs in
- 18:52Speaker 1: my mind, where between Trey A. Savage and there's a
- 18:56Speaker 1: couple of other guys that are starting to pop in
- 18:57Speaker 1: that system that were not high pedigree arms, they seem
- 19:02Speaker 1: to just be able to juice everything they can. The
- 19:05Speaker 1: thing that kind of makes this interesting too is like
- 19:08Speaker 1: when you look at the record of the Blue Jays
- 19:09Speaker 1: right now, they're nine and a half games back at
- 19:11Speaker 1: the AL East.
- 19:12Speaker 2: This is a little bit when.
- 19:14Speaker 1: You think about it compared to like, I mean, the
- 19:15Speaker 1: Mets are actually fifteen games back now, But when the
- 19:18Speaker 1: Mets are kind of hanging out, you're like, man, the
- 19:20Speaker 1: Mets are probably done for the season. Aren't the Blue
- 19:22Speaker 1: Jays too. The difference is the Blue Jays are only
- 19:24Speaker 1: game out of the wild Cards, so they do need
- 19:26Speaker 1: Dylan Cease back here. This isn't going to be a
- 19:28Speaker 1: hamstring injury where I would be worried, you know, if
- 19:32Speaker 1: Cease was on the Mets whether or not they would
- 19:34Speaker 1: actually go through the rigorm of role of really pushing
- 19:36Speaker 1: him to get back on the mound considering the investment.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But the blue Jays need Dylan Cease and Dylan Ceaese
- 19:41Speaker 2: needs the Blue Jays.
- 19:42Speaker 1: So what's your worry level with this hamstring injury for
- 19:45Speaker 1: the rest of the season, considering Dylan Cease has been
- 19:48Speaker 1: your number one starter if you've picked him on your
- 19:50Speaker 1: fantasy team.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't think I'm two concerned.
- 19:53Speaker 3: I mean, I just hope the Blue Jays don't rush
- 19:56Speaker 3: him back, because that's really where we end up with
- 19:58Speaker 3: issues of hamstrings for pictures, is if you rush him
- 20:01Speaker 3: back and they're you know, making a lunge to throw
- 20:04Speaker 3: the pitch, or honestly it's the fielding which becomes a
- 20:07Speaker 3: little bit more of an issue. But Cease has looked awesome.
- 20:10Speaker 3: You know, He's always been one of those streat he
- 20:12Speaker 3: kind of guys, like a Lah Blake smell that you're
- 20:16Speaker 3: you're you're hoping for the best and if he can
- 20:18Speaker 3: just string it together, and he's been doing it this year,
- 20:20Speaker 3: So I have high hopes the rest of the season.
- 20:22Speaker 3: I think as long as he takes a good few
- 20:25Speaker 3: weeks off, really make sure he's healthy and then comes back,
- 20:29Speaker 3: I really got no concerns. To your point, he is
- 20:31Speaker 3: your ace, sees you may have actually had him as
- 20:33Speaker 3: your number two on the team. And if so, man,
- 20:35Speaker 3: you're probably looking really good. Uh So, I I think
- 20:38Speaker 3: we have high hopes.
- 20:39Speaker 4: For Cease the rest of the season. Strike cups are
- 20:41Speaker 4: gonna be there.
- 20:42Speaker 3: He's gonna he's gonna he's still gonna drive some some
- 20:45Speaker 3: championship teams, I think.
- 20:46Speaker 4: Uh So, I'm not too concerned at this point.
- 20:48Speaker 1: Okay, next injury we have is in Milwaukee with starter
- 20:53Speaker 1: Logan Henderson going down with a back injury, which I
- 20:57Speaker 1: don't ever really like to hear from pictures that it
- 21:00Speaker 1: is a lot of torking going on with your lower
- 21:02Speaker 1: back and that's where the injury is at. Uh it
- 21:05Speaker 1: does hurt because Henderson was not terribly different from Cease
- 21:09Speaker 1: on a rate basis so far. It was only twenty
- 21:12Speaker 1: three innings in five starts, but two seventy four ERA
- 21:15Speaker 1: two thirty eight fip a K minus BB of twenty
- 21:19Speaker 1: six point seven percent with a thirty three point three
- 21:22Speaker 1: percent strikeout rate.
- 21:24Speaker 2: I mean, he's looked fantastic.
- 21:27Speaker 1: That the change up was Logan Henderson's number one pitch
- 21:31Speaker 1: kind of coming into the season, and last year, I
- 21:34Speaker 1: mean it was a little bit of like a one
- 21:37Speaker 1: Pitch Dog and Pony Show. But he has actually added
- 21:41Speaker 1: a few ticks to that fastball, where last year is
- 21:44Speaker 1: a one h three stuff plus, now it's a one
- 21:46Speaker 1: fifteen stuff plus. Last year was dealing with a bit
- 21:49Speaker 1: of an elbow injury.
- 21:50Speaker 2: That has not cropped up.
- 21:51Speaker 1: But you do wonder how maybe that's impacted his overall
- 21:55Speaker 1: mechanics and is impacting this back injury. So what's your
- 21:59Speaker 1: panic meter with Logan Henderson?
- 22:02Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean, I think you're right that the back
- 22:06Speaker 5: injuries are concerning for a picture and I don't know
- 22:09Speaker 5: what it is, but maybe he spent too much time
- 22:11Speaker 5: with Christian Yelich, because you know it's something there with Milwaukee.
- 22:15Speaker 3: Just seemed to have back injuries galore. So I'm concerned.
- 22:19Speaker 3: I mean, he has looked great on honestly, even last
- 22:22Speaker 3: year when he was the major league level, Yeah, where
- 22:24Speaker 3: things perfect, No, but he just he shoved, he delivered
- 22:27Speaker 3: every time that he was out there. So I have
- 22:30Speaker 3: no reason to believe, if healthy, that he can continue
- 22:33Speaker 3: to do that. But I'm I am concerned. It's one
- 22:36Speaker 3: of those was just it wasn't described very well as
- 22:39Speaker 3: like a.
- 22:41Speaker 4: Small injury. A large injury is just kind.
- 22:43Speaker 3: Of like we've got some backing was going on, so
- 22:48Speaker 3: jury's definitely out. I'm not cutting Henderson anywhere by any means,
- 22:52Speaker 3: but I've definitely got the antenta of how long is
- 22:55Speaker 3: this going to be an issue?
- 22:57Speaker 4: So wait and hold, wait and hold.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I think I totally agree there and Logan Henderson.
- 23:04Speaker 1: And it's also, man, this Brewer's staff is nasty, so
- 23:09Speaker 1: they also might not have a lot of incentive to
- 23:12Speaker 1: rush him back because I like looking at the roster
- 23:15Speaker 1: resource player power ranker that the past fourteen days, Jacob
- 23:21Speaker 1: Miskiowski number one, Kyle Harrison number two, and Logan Henderson
- 23:26Speaker 1: was number fifteen.
- 23:27Speaker 2: That's absurd.
- 23:28Speaker 1: I don't think I've ever seen anything like that on
- 23:31Speaker 1: any other team when I've been looking at those power ranks.
- 23:35Speaker 2: Okay, next injury we have is a follow.
- 23:37Speaker 1: Up to last week when we discussed Robbie Snelling and
- 23:41Speaker 1: him having a sprained UCL. We were already lamenting bye
- 23:43Speaker 1: bye Robbie Snelling because it usually results in what we saw.
- 23:47Speaker 1: Since then, Robbie Snelling underwent the knife. It was not
- 23:50Speaker 1: a full Tommy John. It was internal brace surgery on
- 23:54Speaker 1: the UCL, so that should allow him to get back
- 23:57Speaker 1: a little bit quicker than a full Tommy John, but
- 24:00Speaker 1: I certainly we'll still knock him out for all of
- 24:01Speaker 1: twenty twenty six. I would probably peg him for a
- 24:05Speaker 1: return around the All Star break in twenty twenty seven.
- 24:08Speaker 1: He was obviously pretty electric before he went down, but
- 24:14Speaker 1: before he arrived in Miami even this year, a little
- 24:18Speaker 1: bit maybe he was a precursor of the injury, was
- 24:20Speaker 1: that walks were an issue for Robbie Snelling until twenty
- 24:25Speaker 1: twenty four and twenty twenty five. So he will be
- 24:28Speaker 1: turning twenty three in December, will still probably have plenty
- 24:32Speaker 1: of hype. Is it somebody that you are holding on
- 24:35Speaker 1: to in dynasty keeper leagues or trying to acquire? And
- 24:39Speaker 1: then where do you are you even considering, like drafting
- 24:43Speaker 1: Robbie Snelling as an il stash getting into twenty twenty seven.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Drafts, Well, we'll start at the back there. You know,
- 24:50Speaker 3: I'm always in the draft any injured pitcher as an
- 24:53Speaker 3: aisle stash. But I would say with Snelling, I'm actually
- 24:58Speaker 3: a little bit more concerned because I'm not sure I
- 25:01Speaker 3: trust the control. I think it's one of those things
- 25:03Speaker 3: he was coming up in the miners, the control didn't
- 25:06Speaker 3: quite bite until he really matured, and his stuff was
- 25:09Speaker 3: so unhittable for the Lovely Who's that he could just
- 25:13Speaker 3: throw it down the middle and it worked. He got
- 25:15Speaker 3: to the upper miners and kind of the same thing.
- 25:17Speaker 3: His stuff was so unbelievable relatives to the hitters that
- 25:20Speaker 3: he could just throw it down the middle and make
- 25:22Speaker 3: it happen. He gets to the majors, now he's got
- 25:24Speaker 3: a nibble and things like that. I'm a little concerned
- 25:26Speaker 3: that the control is always going to be an issue
- 25:28Speaker 3: for him, and so if somebody's biting, if somebody's going
- 25:32Speaker 3: after him, I'm willing to have that conversation because I
- 25:34Speaker 3: think there is a lot of potential in this arm,
- 25:37Speaker 3: but it's kind of like the gauge jumps kind of
- 25:39Speaker 3: in a way, like there's a ton of potential, but
- 25:41Speaker 3: there's a pretty varied outcome and then you plus you
- 25:43Speaker 3: adding the injury.
- 25:45Speaker 4: I'm willing to hold him.
- 25:46Speaker 3: I still think there's potential, but I'm I'm soured a
- 25:49Speaker 3: little bit just because I was already a little concerned
- 25:51Speaker 3: with control and what that would look like and if
- 25:54Speaker 3: the he needed this year to really figure it out
- 25:57Speaker 3: and make adjustments back and now, I mean I wouldn't
- 26:00Speaker 3: be too terribly interested until even twenty eight at this point.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think that's all very fair.
- 26:06Speaker 1: And I mean you can also see what can be
- 26:09Speaker 1: the trajectory for an upper level, top tier prospect arm
- 26:14Speaker 1: with getting back from TJ the way that Andrew Painters
- 26:18Speaker 1: kind of struggled. So you know, some guys bounce right back,
- 26:20Speaker 1: some guys never can kind of rEFInd that magic, and
- 26:23Speaker 1: so there's a lot of risk. So yeah, I mean,
- 26:27Speaker 1: I don't think I'd be dropping him in dynasty keeper situations,
- 26:30Speaker 1: but I think the price has certainly dropped. And if
- 26:34Speaker 1: I find a deal that entices me or allows me
- 26:37Speaker 1: to move that risk away from a pitcher and maybe
- 26:40Speaker 1: into a hitter, then then I'll probably bite, just because,
- 26:45Speaker 1: like you can find kind of new crops of these
- 26:48Speaker 1: guys the way that you know we have with Gauge
- 26:51Speaker 1: Jump and Kate Anderson, especially as the new draftees come
- 26:56Speaker 1: into the pool. You can replenish here in another month
- 27:00Speaker 1: or two. If you've got a situation in your league
- 27:02Speaker 1: where right after being drafted, they go into your pool
- 27:05Speaker 1: after they sign it's a first year player draft, then
- 27:07Speaker 1: you can do that in the offseason, So lots of
- 27:09Speaker 1: different ways to replace what you had in Robbie Snelling's value.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Last move we have it is a move I've gotten
- 27:16Speaker 1: back to moves. It's not an injury, but mostly because
- 27:19Speaker 1: I had to. Because Patron Saint of the pod, Wade
- 27:21Speaker 1: Meckler back in the majors and his first major league
- 27:24Speaker 1: homer for the Los Angeles Angels.
- 27:27Speaker 2: He's taking over for Josh Lowe.
- 27:28Speaker 1: So that tells you how the Los Angeles Angels season
- 27:31Speaker 1: is going that they sent down Josh Lowe to bring
- 27:35Speaker 1: up Wade Meckler, who is now just inserted into the
- 27:38Speaker 1: middle of their lineup after being dfaed. You know this
- 27:41Speaker 1: past offseason a couple of times I believe, Yeah, well,
- 27:45Speaker 1: once once by the Giants and then once by the Angels.
- 27:48Speaker 1: And so he also made a crazy catch in the
- 27:51Speaker 1: first inning of that game too, So Meckler fever catch
- 27:55Speaker 1: it because four games in five forty five, five eighty three,
- 27:58Speaker 1: eight eighteen slash line he did go oh for three
- 28:02Speaker 1: to day but just a little base. So I guess
- 28:05Speaker 1: if you are listening to this pod and you're ale
- 28:06Speaker 1: only guy, I'm all over Meckler because he's the starting
- 28:09Speaker 1: left fielder and hitting fifth for the Angels. Didn't think
- 28:12Speaker 1: we would see this day, but also another shout out
- 28:15Speaker 1: that he's huge on Reddit for the baseball cards pulled
- 28:20Speaker 1: them back out because they oddly do have value, especially
- 28:24Speaker 1: those autos for Wade Meckler, just because he is such
- 28:27Speaker 1: a cult hero. And I know everybody's got Wade Meckler
- 28:31Speaker 1: autos out there from twenty twenty four. So or am
- 28:34Speaker 1: I being too light on Wade Meckler? Are you picking
- 28:36Speaker 1: up Wade Meckler anywhere beside Ale onlys? And are you
- 28:39Speaker 1: maybe even investing in Wade Meckler cards out there?
- 28:42Speaker 3: I'm probably not picking them up anywhere.
- 28:46Speaker 4: Yeah, maybe Ale Only you can convince me.
- 28:49Speaker 3: But I also think this is one like if there
- 28:52Speaker 3: was a time time for Wade Meckler to like make it,
- 28:55Speaker 3: this is the team, this is the time, Like the
- 28:57Speaker 3: Angels are so hapless and Meckler is this kind of
- 29:02Speaker 3: prototypical Quada player that he could just go off and
- 29:06Speaker 3: hit like twenty five homers and you know, hit three
- 29:09Speaker 3: ten or something like on a David fueled season, something
- 29:12Speaker 3: like kind of what he's done in his first few
- 29:14Speaker 3: games here, Like that would like I could just see
- 29:16Speaker 3: it happening. I still wouldn't invest it, still couldn't trust it,
- 29:19Speaker 3: but like that would just add to the lore. So
- 29:22Speaker 3: I'm not counting that out. There's a non zero chance
- 29:25Speaker 3: that we're we're talking way Meckler for the rest of
- 29:27Speaker 3: the season. It's probably a one or two percent chance,
- 29:31Speaker 3: but it's non zero, and I'm gonna stick to that.
- 29:33Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know about twenty five homers, twenty five
- 29:36Speaker 1: stolen bases. I could see though that, like if he
- 29:37Speaker 1: does play the full season. His high ever in a
- 29:42Speaker 1: season was thirteen over eighty three games back in twenty
- 29:47Speaker 1: twenty three. But especially this Angels team is awful twenty
- 29:52Speaker 1: one and thirty five, and it's only getting worse that
- 29:55Speaker 1: they might just if Meckler plays every day for this
- 29:58Speaker 1: Angels team, they might just say, fit, go ahead and
- 30:02Speaker 1: run to your heart's desire as well.
- 30:04Speaker 2: So somebody to.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Maybe watch list in some of those deeper leagues, but
- 30:08Speaker 1: in Ale only he probably even already got hoovered up
- 30:11Speaker 1: over the weekend because there's nobody holding him back other
- 30:16Speaker 1: than maybe if Jose Sirie gets on a hot streak.
- 30:19Speaker 2: That's how this is a goofy goofy team.
- 30:22Speaker 1: It's a fun team to look at on roster resource
- 30:25Speaker 1: because it is like I remember some guys roster already.
- 30:30Speaker 2: Okay, well, that's going to wrap us.
- 30:31Speaker 1: Up for our news and notes. There were some calendar
- 30:34Speaker 1: updates for the Baseball's card releases that we have down
- 30:38Speaker 1: there in the show notes. Certainly check that out. The
- 30:41Speaker 1: biggest ones there. You know, we folded in some of
- 30:44Speaker 1: the twenty twenty five Tops Dynasty and Tops Inception. That
- 30:48Speaker 1: is right, twenty twenty five products still coming out.
- 30:52Speaker 2: We've got a new.
- 30:53Speaker 1: Pre order up there for Tribute and Finest, I believe,
- 30:57Speaker 1: and so we are going to out to go through
- 31:01Speaker 1: another wave of major releases here for Baseball cards after
- 31:04Speaker 1: Series one drops in just over a week and a half,
- 31:07Speaker 1: so we will have coverage of that when it comes out,
- 31:10Speaker 1: But until then, we will take a little bit of
- 31:15Speaker 1: a break and we'll be back on the other side
- 31:18Speaker 1: with the discussion of what we're terming team killers, guys
- 31:21Speaker 1: who you draft in the top one hundred and have
- 31:24Speaker 1: absolutely given you nothing so far the season. All right,
- 31:47Speaker 1: welcome back, everybody. We're just going to dive right into
- 31:49Speaker 1: our segments. So really, the way that I found these
- 31:53Speaker 1: groups of guys that we're going to talk about, I've
- 31:55Speaker 1: kind of clustered them into four groups. Is I was
- 31:58Speaker 1: scanning back through the NFBCD data from January first through
- 32:02Speaker 1: the end of March and kind of looking through the
- 32:05Speaker 1: top one hundred picks to look at players who in
- 32:08Speaker 1: the Rasball Player Raider are not rating very well even
- 32:12Speaker 1: though they were top one hundred picks, which pretty much
- 32:15Speaker 1: it signals to me, a top one hundred pick is
- 32:17Speaker 1: a guy who you are pretty much can't cut because
- 32:22Speaker 1: like the investment that you're putting into him is so significant,
- 32:27Speaker 1: and on top of it, like a top one hundred
- 32:29Speaker 1: player is pretty much rostered in every league imaginable unless
- 32:34Speaker 1: you're in the tiniest, shallowest league that exists. So all
- 32:37Speaker 1: these guys are going to be relevant for every league.
- 32:40Speaker 1: And I'm sure that if you've got a bunch of
- 32:41Speaker 1: them cluster together like I do on my CDs squad,
- 32:45Speaker 1: your team is probably struggling. And so you were counting
- 32:49Speaker 1: a lot of production from some of these players, You
- 32:51Speaker 1: invested a lot of draft capital, and now they are
- 32:55Speaker 1: giving you nothing. That all these players I looked in
- 32:57Speaker 1: the Player Rasball Raider are two dollars are below in
- 33:01Speaker 1: terms of value that they've given back to you in
- 33:03Speaker 1: a standard twelve team five y five rod most of
- 33:06Speaker 1: them are negative.
- 33:07Speaker 2: So that's even worse.
- 33:10Speaker 1: We're gonna be looking at guys who I didn't I
- 33:13Speaker 1: kind of carved out, for the most part, injured guys.
- 33:16Speaker 1: A couple of these guys that we will touch on.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You know, they've been on the injured list here and there,
- 33:19Speaker 1: but they weren't good and even before they hit the
- 33:23Speaker 1: injured list, and the injury that they had didn't necessarily
- 33:26Speaker 1: line up to any of the productions, So I think
- 33:29Speaker 1: you can call them separate events. So with that, I
- 33:33Speaker 1: think we can just kind of get into these guys
- 33:35Speaker 1: just to see if there's anything that we should have
- 33:38Speaker 1: like noticed in their profiles back on draft Day, any
- 33:42Speaker 1: sort of strategies we should have taken to avoid them,
- 33:44Speaker 1: and then what we're doing with them for the rest
- 33:47Speaker 1: of twenty twenty six. So Brew, like, what do you
- 33:51Speaker 1: do in this type of situation? Are are you aggressive
- 33:53Speaker 1: and cutting some of these guys when you see the
- 33:55Speaker 1: poor performance? Are you more one of those players that
- 33:59Speaker 1: does gut it out? Because I mean, still, all these
- 34:02Speaker 1: guys we're going to talk about. Are projected pretty well
- 34:05Speaker 1: for the rest of the year, so projection systems love them,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and just the on field performance is not matched it
- 34:11Speaker 1: so far.
- 34:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it comes down to what I see
- 34:15Speaker 3: on the under An underlying profile like that might be
- 34:18Speaker 3: quick to bench a few of these guys and play
- 34:21Speaker 3: a hot hand. But if if it was on a
- 34:25Speaker 3: little shakier foundation of the overall profile, I'm I'm I'm
- 34:28Speaker 3: letting go, I'm i'm cutting loose, I'm buying doing that.
- 34:30Speaker 3: But if it's a guy that's a slow starter, or
- 34:32Speaker 3: it's a guy that has really good, strong underlining metrics,
- 34:35Speaker 3: he just needs to make a tweak. I'm I'm willing
- 34:37Speaker 3: to get those ones out, and I think we've got
- 34:38Speaker 3: a few guys like that on this list. But you
- 34:41Speaker 3: gotta be careful if you're if you're fighting for a championship,
- 34:45Speaker 3: you can't let these kind of guys torpedo your season
- 34:47Speaker 3: because you just hang on too long. But I think
- 34:50Speaker 3: benching or you know, trying to find that other owner
- 34:54Speaker 3: that's like, yeah, there's there's so much hope here and
- 34:56Speaker 3: selling on like you know, seventy five cents on a
- 34:58Speaker 3: dollar is is probably the right move if you're really
- 35:02Speaker 3: playing for if you're more of a dynasty keeper situation,
- 35:05Speaker 3: a lot of these guys are ones that you need
- 35:07Speaker 3: to hold on to for them to rebuild value and
- 35:10Speaker 3: then decide if you're gonna make a move.
- 35:13Speaker 1: YEP, I think that is all very fair. So let's
- 35:16Speaker 1: start with our first kind of collection of guys. We've
- 35:18Speaker 1: got three dudes who are clustered into this one group
- 35:22Speaker 1: that I'm calling just the young outfielders. So all three
- 35:25Speaker 1: of these players have been negative per the rasball Player Raider,
- 35:31Speaker 1: except for the last one who's only been worth I
- 35:33Speaker 1: think two bucks, and so we're talking.
- 35:35Speaker 2: All of them are top one hundred picks.
- 35:37Speaker 1: Roman Anthony of the Boston Red Sox, who currently is
- 35:40Speaker 1: on the injured list for a finger, and it's also
- 35:44Speaker 1: been a very weird news pattern around that finger for
- 35:46Speaker 1: Roman Anthony getting back onto the field. But before he
- 35:50Speaker 1: hit the eye out, it was a two twenty nine,
- 35:52Speaker 1: three fifty four three twenty one slash line ninety four
- 35:56Speaker 1: WRC plus which is one homer, two stolen bases, and
- 35:59Speaker 1: five are in thirty games. This is also a player
- 36:03Speaker 1: where the projections have already started backing up on him,
- 36:07Speaker 1: where preseason, some of them were pushing him to like
- 36:10Speaker 1: a two seventy ish average with twenty homers and ten
- 36:13Speaker 1: Stonlee bases. When you actually look at what he's projected
- 36:18Speaker 1: to put up the rest of these season, it's like
- 36:19Speaker 1: two fifty five with only ten more homers and five
- 36:23Speaker 1: Stone bases, which will make him like a ten to
- 36:25Speaker 1: five guy, which is I think you and I both
- 36:29Speaker 1: sold him in the Ale East preview, right.
- 36:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think so. I think we both did.
- 36:35Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean the price on Roman Anthony was a
- 36:38Speaker 1: little absurd. He was not a top one hundred pick
- 36:40Speaker 1: for me and because of like, the projections weren't too
- 36:44Speaker 1: stellar to begin with. And so hopefully you listen to
- 36:48Speaker 1: us on that. There's another one that we'll get to
- 36:51Speaker 1: that we both sold early on too, So maybe we
- 36:53Speaker 1: would have seen it. I don't know if you would
- 36:55Speaker 1: have seen why at Langford coming. It has been another
- 36:57Speaker 1: banged up season, but before that it was two thirds,
- 37:00Speaker 1: two seventy four, three sixty three seventy eight WRC plus
- 37:04Speaker 1: with over twenty games with three Stonlee bases and one homer. Again,
- 37:09Speaker 1: another guy where the projections have started backing up from
- 37:12Speaker 1: where they were at at preseason, which is not what
- 37:15Speaker 1: you like to see for a guy who is only
- 37:18Speaker 1: twenty four years old. Last guy, he actually is positive
- 37:21Speaker 1: in the Player Raider with only a like a two
- 37:24Speaker 1: dollars value. Right now, Jackson Merrill twenty three years old
- 37:28Speaker 1: is a one ninety four two sixty seven, three h
- 37:30Speaker 1: nine slash line the sixty five WRC plus four homers
- 37:34Speaker 1: and ten stone bases. It's the ten stone bases that's
- 37:37Speaker 1: saving you. But otherwise it's been futured out of Jackson Merrill.
- 37:40Speaker 1: So is there anything kind of you see happening with
- 37:44Speaker 1: all three of these young outfielders that were higher in
- 37:47Speaker 1: the risk profile that maybe you should have given us
- 37:50Speaker 1: some pause taking high draft picks on them, or is
- 37:54Speaker 1: this just a matter of kind of the The classic
- 37:58Speaker 1: line is prospect growth isn't linear, and these guys are
- 38:02Speaker 1: all dudes who you know you looking at twenty two,
- 38:06Speaker 1: twenty four, twenty three, very early in their careers where
- 38:09Speaker 1: they feel more established than they are because they came
- 38:11Speaker 1: up so early, and you still have faith in them
- 38:14Speaker 1: being able to get it on the right track for
- 38:16Speaker 1: the rest of twenty twenty six. So which camp are
- 38:18Speaker 1: you on? Is there something fundamentally flawed with any of
- 38:22Speaker 1: these guys, or is it something where you're just waiting
- 38:25Speaker 1: for the weather to heat up and they'll be back.
- 38:28Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:28Speaker 3: I mean, I don't know if there's anything this I
- 38:30Speaker 3: would say fundamentally flawed across the board that's shared. But
- 38:33Speaker 3: I think if you look at Jackson maryl I think
- 38:36Speaker 3: he's the one that stands out of like, yeah, you
- 38:37Speaker 3: probably should have seen this coming. He struggled last year
- 38:41Speaker 3: and he has one of those He has decent contact
- 38:47Speaker 3: metrics as far as powers, concern square the ball up,
- 38:49Speaker 3: things like that, but they're not like league leading where
- 38:52Speaker 3: they're going to just drive. But he is very, very
- 38:54Speaker 3: poor played discipline. He does not walk much. He strikes
- 38:57Speaker 3: out a lot, and when you don't have other worldly
- 39:00Speaker 3: tools that are gonna you know. He he's efficient in
- 39:04Speaker 3: ceiling bases, but even last year he just we're just
- 39:10Speaker 3: have seen that coming because even if you looked at
- 39:12Speaker 3: the profile last year, that plate approach, everything kind of had.
- 39:16Speaker 4: To go right for it to continue.
- 39:18Speaker 3: But it was he's young answer, it was hard to
- 39:22Speaker 3: not to not invest Langford. On the other side, I
- 39:25Speaker 3: think you have almost kind of just that Texas Rangers
- 39:28Speaker 3: don't know how to deal with and keep guys healthy aspect,
- 39:31Speaker 3: But it's that one I think it was a little
- 39:33Speaker 3: harder to see to see coming. Like I I liked
- 39:36Speaker 3: a lot of what I saw on Langford, and he's
- 39:38Speaker 3: just hasn't stayed healthy and that's I think the biggest
- 39:40Speaker 3: issue there.
- 39:41Speaker 4: And then Anthony.
- 39:42Speaker 3: If you look at his comps on Baseball Savants, and
- 39:44Speaker 3: I'm gonna list him off here, Brian Reynolds, James Wood,
- 39:48Speaker 3: Brett Baty, Bryce Strang, and Ronald Acunya, that's a pretty
- 39:51Speaker 3: decent group. They all hit the ball incredibly hard. The
- 39:54Speaker 3: thing is, Roman Anthony hit the ball on the ground
- 39:59Speaker 3: like he's a fifth around ball.
- 40:01Speaker 4: Right.
- 40:01Speaker 3: If if I recall the flyballs like twenty two, you
- 40:05Speaker 3: have to have like a what forty percent homework to
- 40:08Speaker 3: flyball ratio to like make that work, and he doesn't.
- 40:13Speaker 3: And he's really not that incredibly fastic guy. So he
- 40:15Speaker 3: hits really really hard ground balls. Him and Vlad Guerrero
- 40:18Speaker 3: apparently are similar to that in that aspect, and he's
- 40:22Speaker 3: the guy I think has the most potential identities like
- 40:24Speaker 3: figure it out and break out. But we've seen this
- 40:28Speaker 3: before with guys that have incredible power, incredible tools, and
- 40:32Speaker 3: they just can't get the swing plane figured out and
- 40:35Speaker 3: it's easy to dream. So I'm I'm a lukewarm on
- 40:38Speaker 3: all of them. I think Anthony's one with the biggest potential,
- 40:42Speaker 3: but they're all really really hard to trust and investing
- 40:47Speaker 3: in the rest of the season.
- 40:48Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all very fair, and I mean,
- 40:51Speaker 1: I think the other thing with Anthony two is what
- 40:53Speaker 1: worries me a little bit about the profile going forward
- 40:56Speaker 1: is like there is a Jordan Walker element to it
- 40:59Speaker 1: where got to the big leagues in a relatively quick
- 41:02Speaker 1: fashion as like a high school pick, where maybe there
- 41:06Speaker 1: was more tooling they need to do with that swing
- 41:10Speaker 1: before they kind of got him into the big leagues
- 41:12Speaker 1: and now he's got to fix it at the big
- 41:13Speaker 1: league level, which is a really tall task, especially when
- 41:18Speaker 1: you're still trying to learn the league.
- 41:19Speaker 2: And it took going to drive line for Jordan Walker.
- 41:22Speaker 1: But yeah, I think that's probably a good assessment on
- 41:27Speaker 1: all of them, where a combination of some of them
- 41:30Speaker 1: we've probably could have seen coming coming into the year,
- 41:33Speaker 1: and a little bit of it is maybe it's mostly
- 41:37Speaker 1: just Langford I think is in this boat is where
- 41:39Speaker 1: it's like you can't quite trust the organization sometimes too,
- 41:42Speaker 1: so you've got to look what's happening around them and
- 41:46Speaker 1: make that assessment when you're kind of making that pick. Overall, Okay,
- 41:53Speaker 1: let's get into our next category, which is what I
- 41:56Speaker 1: would call like week hitting middle infielders, because I mean,
- 41:59Speaker 1: you probably drafted these guys as you're starting shortstops, but
- 42:02Speaker 1: now they're barely hanging on at middle infield for you.
- 42:05Speaker 1: First one is Geraldo Perdomo, which was the other guy
- 42:07Speaker 1: that we were warning or that we alluded to warning
- 42:10Speaker 1: people about before the season because we weren't expecting the
- 42:15Speaker 1: MVP calvery season he put up in twenty twenty five.
- 42:17Speaker 1: I don't know if we were expecting this a two
- 42:19Speaker 1: twenty three thirty three, three thirty three slash line with
- 42:22Speaker 1: ninety two WRC plus two homers, eight stolen bases.
- 42:27Speaker 2: I think still positive.
- 42:30Speaker 1: On the Raswell player Raider, but barely hanging on mostly
- 42:33Speaker 1: because of those stolen bases. The other guy, I can
- 42:36Speaker 1: tell you, is definitely negative. Even with the homers that
- 42:38Speaker 1: he started launching, it is not helping out too much.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Two twenty eight, two seventy four, three twenty one that's
- 42:45Speaker 1: a seventy one WRC plus. That is the stat line
- 42:49Speaker 1: of Bob Bashett, who also went in those top one
- 42:52Speaker 1: hundred picks.
- 42:53Speaker 2: You and I I think.
- 42:54Speaker 1: We're both relatively lukewarm on him, but I mean in
- 42:58Speaker 1: terms of what he put up last year, it wasn't
- 43:01Speaker 1: flashing anything like this. This is like a weird amalgamation
- 43:04Speaker 1: of all of the warts that Bobachett has had and
- 43:08Speaker 1: they just kind of like showed up all in one
- 43:10Speaker 1: season together. Where the batting average is has tanked, the
- 43:14Speaker 1: babbit isn't there, the speed isn't there, and the power
- 43:17Speaker 1: is struggling as well. So what are you doing with
- 43:20Speaker 1: both Perdomo and Bashett going forward in the rest of
- 43:22Speaker 1: twenty twenty six.
- 43:24Speaker 3: Yeah, I am selling both of them hard.
- 43:26Speaker 4: I think you were right.
- 43:27Speaker 3: Both of us in the off scenes didn't like these profiles.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Both guys that kind of have good back control but
- 43:35Speaker 3: don't have a lot of swing power. They don't square
- 43:39Speaker 3: it up well, and they've really lived on the borderline
- 43:43Speaker 3: of luck. And that's that's especially pro Domo a lot
- 43:46Speaker 3: of that, and they've kind of backed up hit more grounders.
- 43:49Speaker 3: That means the power is gone, especially with the luck
- 43:51Speaker 3: dropping off, and these were guys that were carried by
- 43:56Speaker 3: your batting average and that was about it, that was
- 44:00Speaker 3: the main thing, and they.
- 44:01Speaker 4: Backed into some other things.
- 44:02Speaker 3: So I'm I don't see when those that kind of
- 44:08Speaker 3: tool backs up and all they're doing is well decently.
- 44:11Speaker 4: Not striking out.
- 44:13Speaker 3: It's it's gonna be a challenge. So I'm willing to
- 44:16Speaker 3: move on from these guys. I would cut these guys
- 44:18Speaker 3: if you can't find the take here. But these are
- 44:20Speaker 3: the kind of guys that I talked about. You can't
- 44:23Speaker 3: put in your lineup just based on the name value.
- 44:25Speaker 3: They will tank you because you're getting no homers, no steals,
- 44:29Speaker 3: a low batting average, and not surprising, the counting tafts
- 44:32Speaker 3: aren't there is either.
- 44:34Speaker 4: There's a lot of name.
- 44:35Speaker 3: Value, but man, both of under the covers do not
- 44:38Speaker 3: look good. Ignore the bright red and Perdomo from his
- 44:41Speaker 3: plate approach because it comes with nothing else. So I'm
- 44:45Speaker 3: definitely moving on from both these guys.
- 44:47Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I mean, I'm still like hanging onto them
- 44:51Speaker 1: in terms of the fringes, just because they're still playing
- 44:53Speaker 1: in the middle of their lineups and they will heat
- 44:55Speaker 1: up a little bit with the weather, but certainly in
- 44:59Speaker 1: like twelve team or thing might already be cut in
- 45:01Speaker 1: fifteen teamers, you kind of are stuck with them and
- 45:04Speaker 1: you have to find your spots to play them.
- 45:07Speaker 4: Yeah, I tell you fifteen you're you're kind of stuck.
- 45:10Speaker 4: Yeah you're.
- 45:10Speaker 1: Yeah, you might even be in at twelve, but like
- 45:13Speaker 1: you might, it depends on who's on your wire that
- 45:15Speaker 1: It's going to depend on your league there and see
- 45:17Speaker 1: what's available. I can tell you that I have Bobachett
- 45:21Speaker 1: in our CBS league that we allude to a lot,
- 45:24Speaker 1: and I mentioned them last week and that's when you
- 45:26Speaker 1: popped the three homers. So if you want Bobachett to
- 45:29Speaker 1: go off, hit me up. I am email me whatever
- 45:34Speaker 1: form you can find it.
- 45:36Speaker 2: Hit me up.
- 45:37Speaker 1: If you can make me drop him, I guarantee you
- 45:39Speaker 1: Bobachett will hit thirty homers the rest of the season.
- 45:41Speaker 2: So if you're looking for that, just let me know.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Okay, next group, next category that I have is what
- 45:48Speaker 1: I'm calling two punchless power bats. So these guys were
- 45:52Speaker 1: players that we were really counting on coming into the
- 45:54Speaker 1: season that we wanted some pop to be able to
- 45:59Speaker 1: round out what we had acquired in the first couple rounds.
- 46:02Speaker 1: We're looking at Augustin Ramirez for the Miami Marlins, who
- 46:07Speaker 1: played so poorly and provided so little pop that he
- 46:10Speaker 1: got demoted. Two thirty three eighteen three forty five slash line,
- 46:14Speaker 1: eighty seven WRC plus. It was a one to fifteen
- 46:17Speaker 1: ISO out of Augustin Ramirez, an x slug on the
- 46:22Speaker 1: eighth percent tile, a hard hit percentage in the forty
- 46:25Speaker 1: fifth percent tile.
- 46:26Speaker 2: Just nothing in that bat this year. The other one.
- 46:30Speaker 1: He looks great when he was all beamed up for
- 46:32Speaker 1: Team Italy, but he's been all beings down in the
- 46:36Speaker 1: major leagues this season. Vinnie Pascentino just five homers with
- 46:40Speaker 1: a two oh three two ninety three thirty three slash line.
- 46:43Speaker 1: This is seventy three WRC plus out of your first baseman,
- 46:47Speaker 1: and it has not looked good underneath the hood either.
- 46:50Speaker 1: Twenty fifth percent tile hard hit rate, forty fifth percent
- 46:54Speaker 1: tile barrel rate, thirty eight percent tile X slug. What's
- 46:59Speaker 1: going on with the guys, because especially like Vinnie Pascatino
- 47:02Speaker 1: is coming off a homer, a thirty two homer season,
- 47:05Speaker 1: they pulled in the corner fences for him. Augustin Ramirez
- 47:08Speaker 1: was twenty three years old last year pop twenty one homers,
- 47:11Speaker 1: even with those games being played down in that expanse
- 47:15Speaker 1: of Miami Park, was there something that we should have
- 47:19Speaker 1: seen coming into the season for either of these guys?
- 47:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's tough with both of these guys.
- 47:28Speaker 3: I think past let me start with past Patino. He's
- 47:31Speaker 3: a guy that always starts so slow that it's hard
- 47:34Speaker 3: to know if there's really an issue here or if
- 47:37Speaker 3: this is just this traditional slow start and he's going
- 47:39Speaker 3: to figure things out and then he's really going to
- 47:41Speaker 3: go through a crazy June July throughout the summer. That's
- 47:45Speaker 3: the hard thing with Pascatino, because you know he struggles
- 47:47Speaker 3: early on. So I've seen a little bit more with
- 47:50Speaker 3: him where I feel like there is still something there.
- 47:52Speaker 3: I still think I've seen him kind of work around things.
- 47:55Speaker 3: I think there's more potential. So I'm willing to kind
- 47:57Speaker 3: of ride that one out. With Vinnie because this has
- 48:01Speaker 3: been his pattern across many many seasons. I wish it
- 48:04Speaker 3: wasn't because it makes it easier, but if you're drafting me,
- 48:07Speaker 3: you kind of have to know that. On the other side,
- 48:09Speaker 3: with Ramirez, I think this one's one of those where
- 48:12Speaker 3: when you have a pretty poor overall hit tool. It
- 48:16Speaker 3: really exploits the rest of your game. He can, he's
- 48:20Speaker 3: got pop, he could run for I'm gonna call him
- 48:24Speaker 3: quote unquote catcher because I'm not sure if he's truly
- 48:26Speaker 3: going to ever be a catcher. But if you aren't
- 48:31Speaker 3: making the contact, you're not getting on base, you're you're
- 48:33Speaker 3: in a funk. It's really gonna be hard. He seems
- 48:36Speaker 3: like he's done a little better since he's been demoted,
- 48:38Speaker 3: and that's.
- 48:39Speaker 4: I think, really what they're trying to figure out.
- 48:41Speaker 3: But I worry if he's really going to get a
- 48:43Speaker 3: second chance at the major league level because he dug himself.
- 48:47Speaker 4: A big hole.
- 48:47Speaker 3: So, you know, Ramiroz, maybe we should have seen it
- 48:50Speaker 3: come in a little bit just because of that plate
- 48:53Speaker 3: approach was was really questionable. But it was so hard
- 48:57Speaker 3: to ignore the twenty twenty potential from a catcher, and
- 49:00Speaker 3: so I think a lot of us put rose cloth
- 49:02Speaker 3: and glasses on across the industry because it was like, eh,
- 49:05Speaker 3: it's okay if he gets two thirty, because he's gonna
- 49:06Speaker 3: hit twenty bombs till twenty bases. But if he's not
- 49:10Speaker 3: making contact, then you're not on basis to steal and
- 49:12Speaker 3: you're not seeing the ball fly of the ballpark. It
- 49:14Speaker 3: was just a very very risky profile that we should
- 49:18Speaker 3: be surprised if this was the outcome. We also wouldn't
- 49:20Speaker 3: have been surprised if the outcome was a twenty five
- 49:22Speaker 3: twenty five season.
- 49:24Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe we should have seen Liam Hicks coming, because
- 49:27Speaker 2: if do you, he was my pick to click back
- 49:31Speaker 2: in the twenty twenty five Previeuseason for the Marlins when
- 49:34Speaker 2: he came over as a real five thick.
- 49:37Speaker 3: I was just a year too early, But there's nothing
- 49:39Speaker 3: like a Lake victory lap on that one.
- 49:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I had to get in there when I could,
- 49:42Speaker 1: even though yeah, I don't have Liam Picks anywhere.
- 49:45Speaker 2: I thought it was gonna be a flash in the pan.
- 49:48Speaker 1: But yeah, the other thing, honestly, I might even be
- 49:50Speaker 1: more worried about vinnip than you are. The bat speed
- 49:54Speaker 1: is also down significantly from last year, almost three ticks.
- 49:59Speaker 2: That it's really what's.
- 50:01Speaker 1: Kind of killing him overall, because in terms of the chase,
- 50:05Speaker 1: it's a little bit worse, but not, you know, crazy
- 50:10Speaker 1: worse than it was last year. And you're looking at
- 50:12Speaker 1: just the overall wifth percentages same thing there too. He
- 50:16Speaker 1: just doesn't have the same thump. I wonder if he's
- 50:18Speaker 1: like nursing some sort of small injury that they haven't
- 50:21Speaker 1: reported on or picked something up in the WBC, because
- 50:24Speaker 1: he's playing like it right now. So that'll be fascinating
- 50:28Speaker 1: to see if there's something that's been nagging Pascantino and
- 50:33Speaker 1: they need to shelve them soon. The reason that they
- 50:36Speaker 1: probably haven't is they well, I mean, I guess they
- 50:40Speaker 1: could play CAGs and Salvador Perez there, so you think
- 50:43Speaker 1: they would want to win. But it's been a really,
- 50:47Speaker 1: really strange season for vinnyp It is getting to the
- 50:51Speaker 1: point where where I've got him, I'm close to cutting him,
- 50:54Speaker 1: even though I paid you know, like twenty plus bucks
- 50:57Speaker 1: for him at the table at a draft because there's
- 51:00Speaker 1: nothing there.
- 51:04Speaker 4: Okay, I understand it.
- 51:06Speaker 3: Like I said, I have more faith than he coming back,
- 51:08Speaker 3: but Ramiroz, you got to move on for him. Then
- 51:10Speaker 3: he's a bench at this point.
- 51:12Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly.
- 51:14Speaker 4: Okay.
- 51:14Speaker 1: I've got two pictures just because honestly, they're kind of
- 51:18Speaker 1: in the same boat where I labeled them struggling South pause,
- 51:22Speaker 1: but they aren't. They're struggling sinkerballers is what they are.
- 51:25Speaker 1: Logan Web of the San Francisco Giants from ber Valdez
- 51:29Speaker 1: have both been terrible.
- 51:30Speaker 2: Logan Web has obviously been.
- 51:32Speaker 1: On the il but before he hit the ILU it
- 51:36Speaker 1: was atrocious. And this is something that our friend Taylor
- 51:40Speaker 1: Corso warned us about a little bit with the Giants,
- 51:43Speaker 1: especially because like, not only is Web kind of like
- 51:47Speaker 1: a higher contact picture, but he is a high volume
- 51:51Speaker 1: pitcher too, so like he can just like really murder
- 51:54Speaker 1: your whip quickly, and he did with a one to
- 51:56Speaker 1: four whip over his forty eight innings before the.
- 51:59Speaker 2: IL six era.
- 52:01Speaker 1: The FIP is okay, it's at three fifty four, but
- 52:04Speaker 1: the past or the previous five seasons, that FIP was
- 52:08Speaker 1: down below three in like two point nine range. The
- 52:13Speaker 1: ground ball rate's been doing fine, but some of the
- 52:15Speaker 1: like luck metrics have not been on his side. From
- 52:19Speaker 1: Bervaldez has been mercrucial is maybe.
- 52:23Speaker 2: A light way of putting it.
- 52:24Speaker 1: Not only did he have kind of that black mark
- 52:27Speaker 1: against him from that possible cross up of his catcher
- 52:30Speaker 1: last year, fre Agency added to it by beating a
- 52:35Speaker 1: guy a couple of weeks ago and going on the
- 52:37Speaker 1: suspension where it was like the big thing that was
- 52:41Speaker 1: people were pointing out as like one of the only
- 52:43Speaker 1: times he threw a fastball in his career, because he's
- 52:45Speaker 1: a heavy sinker baller, and you would think that would
- 52:48Speaker 1: work in the cold of Detroit. It is not four
- 52:50Speaker 1: to twenty eight ra over sixty one innings, a poor
- 52:53Speaker 1: strikeout rate, a career worse eighteen point seven percent strikeout rate,
- 52:58Speaker 1: goes with a one thirty three whip which he has
- 53:01Speaker 1: not put up since twenty nineteen when he was like
- 53:04Speaker 1: a swingman, reliever, slash starter for the Astros. So what
- 53:09Speaker 1: are you doing with these guys, because especially from Ber,
- 53:13Speaker 1: like I've got from Ber on my RCL team and
- 53:15Speaker 1: I'm close to cutting him every time he pitches because
- 53:19Speaker 1: the results have not been there compared to what he
- 53:21Speaker 1: did in Houston. I think Logan Web, You're probably going
- 53:24Speaker 1: to be a little bit more gracious with especially since
- 53:26Speaker 1: he's on the IL, but the underlying stats haven't been
- 53:30Speaker 1: where they've been in the past, and it's not helping
- 53:32Speaker 1: him that the defense behind him has been a little
- 53:35Speaker 1: bit shaky. So your takes on Frumper Valdez and Logan.
- 53:38Speaker 3: Web, Yeah, I think I'm gonna start with Web here
- 53:44Speaker 3: because to your point, like maybe the Lothererlands has some
- 53:46Speaker 3: step back a little bit, but he's really just had
- 53:48Speaker 3: some left on Baselok. Defense hasn't really held up, but
- 53:52Speaker 3: the underlying profile doesn't look that different, Like I think
- 53:55Speaker 3: there's still plenty there. He's always been the guy that
- 53:58Speaker 3: I've been low on, not enough strikeout. It's more of
- 54:01Speaker 3: a volume play. So if you like well Logan Webb before,
- 54:04Speaker 3: you should still probably relted like him if you weren't
- 54:07Speaker 3: out on him. This is just another excuse to continue
- 54:09Speaker 3: to be out. But I think, you know, Web's the
- 54:11Speaker 3: guy here that I'm like willing to look the other
- 54:14Speaker 3: way because I don't see a big issue under I
- 54:16Speaker 3: just see some some some poor lucks and poor defense
- 54:19Speaker 3: which has kind of let him down, and when he
- 54:21Speaker 3: gets back healthy, like I think.
- 54:23Speaker 4: There's still some value.
- 54:25Speaker 3: Valdez, on the other hand, is and I we joke
- 54:27Speaker 3: sometimes on this podcast, like the Fantasy Clubhouse and you know,
- 54:31Speaker 3: how you should you know, build a really respectable team
- 54:34Speaker 3: and things like that, and we kinda think we even
- 54:35Speaker 3: joked about Valdez. And that's during the offseason because of
- 54:38Speaker 3: the signing and the mix ups, and I honestly think
- 54:42Speaker 3: that's been the issue here is Valdez is not respected
- 54:45Speaker 3: that clubhouse. I don't think he's gelling with the team,
- 54:48Speaker 3: and he's got his big contract and just doesn't seem
- 54:51Speaker 3: to want to figure things out. Like he's shown the cracks.
- 54:55Speaker 3: He is not the bulldog that people think he is,
- 54:59Speaker 3: and because of that, he's not making adjustments and folks
- 55:03Speaker 3: have figured him out. Like I think it's that simple.
- 55:06Speaker 3: And we saw chinks in the armor with Houston at times,
- 55:09Speaker 3: and I just think he is not geled with this team,
- 55:12Speaker 3: and like that's a hard intangible to really analyze the
- 55:17Speaker 3: player on versus just look at their stuff. But I
- 55:20Speaker 3: really think in this situation that's actually was driving the
- 55:24Speaker 3: lack of stuff. And I'm I am fully out on
- 55:26Speaker 3: I am cutting him, I'm sending him up, you know,
- 55:29Speaker 3: Tim Buck too, wherever it needs to be.
- 55:31Speaker 4: He is not going to be on my fantasy.
- 55:32Speaker 2: Team, all right.
- 55:34Speaker 1: I think that's very fair heads up to my RcLs
- 55:37Speaker 1: league mates, because you'll be seeing from Bravaldez probably on
- 55:40Speaker 1: that waiver wire soon.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 55:43Speaker 1: I think the other thing that I'm learning from these
- 55:44Speaker 1: guys too, is because they both came in where Logan
- 55:47Speaker 1: Webb was a little bit more of like a back
- 55:49Speaker 1: end number one, but more of like a high floor,
- 55:54Speaker 1: lower ceiling option from Bravaldez was kind of the same
- 55:57Speaker 1: sort of thing as a number two. I think what
- 56:00Speaker 1: I'm learning is I've got to be a little bit
- 56:03Speaker 1: more aggressive with the young pitching going into next year,
- 56:06Speaker 1: where it has come a lot like they've come through
- 56:10Speaker 1: the systems much quicker, they have developed much quicker the
- 56:15Speaker 1: stuff that they're able to learn with in the minors,
- 56:18Speaker 1: as well as the training techniques.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Down in the minor.
- 56:22Speaker 1: In the college ranks have just progressed a long way
- 56:26Speaker 1: as well as like the data that the major league
- 56:28Speaker 1: teams can get out of the college teams allows them
- 56:31Speaker 1: to see the exact traits that they want to be
- 56:34Speaker 1: able to draft these guys. I mean, you think especially
- 56:36Speaker 1: about like a tree Ya Savage or the one that's
- 56:39Speaker 1: really popped up this year has started to in Baltimore
- 56:42Speaker 1: as Joseph Zerwa, So like there's lots of data that
- 56:45Speaker 1: people can use and find the pitchers that they want
- 56:49Speaker 1: that I think going into next year, I'll obviously be
- 56:53Speaker 1: kind of still trying to hunt for number one somebody
- 56:56Speaker 1: who's in that realm. But when it comes to like
- 56:58Speaker 1: my number twos and number threes, I'm hunting ceiling. Like
- 57:04Speaker 1: I I'm not gonna be worried about innings pitched. I'm
- 57:07Speaker 1: not gonna be worried about guys who get out there
- 57:09Speaker 1: and give me a nine K per nine and we're
- 57:12Speaker 1: what Fromber used to be. I want guys who are
- 57:15Speaker 1: gonna pop, and if they don't pop, I can cut
- 57:18Speaker 1: them quickly so that I can know to move on
- 57:20Speaker 1: and be able to mix and match and shuffle and
- 57:23Speaker 1: be able to pick up the next Kyle Harrison, to
- 57:26Speaker 1: pick up a Maximyer breakout.
- 57:28Speaker 2: Things like that. What do you think about that going
- 57:30Speaker 2: into next year's draft.
- 57:33Speaker 4: Yeah, I think it's a good point.
- 57:34Speaker 3: I mean, even if you go the tier in this
- 57:37Speaker 3: we tak the off season, there was this like spot
- 57:40Speaker 3: in the middle of the draft which had like your
- 57:43Speaker 3: Jacob Ezraowski's, your Cam Schlitzer's, your Tree Savages a few
- 57:48Speaker 3: other of those young names.
- 57:50Speaker 4: I think dol McLain was.
- 57:50Speaker 3: A little bit hut totally was there like and we
- 57:53Speaker 3: just didn't full like I think we talked about invest
- 57:57Speaker 3: in that group. You'll get three or four of them,
- 57:59Speaker 3: Like that's what's gonna make or break your team, And
- 58:01Speaker 3: it was just so hard to commit to that strategy
- 58:04Speaker 3: because you're like, man, there's a lot of variables. Are
- 58:06Speaker 3: these guys gonna be up? Are they gonna play? You know?
- 58:08Speaker 3: And they have like they have across the board.
- 58:12Speaker 4: You go about further down.
- 58:13Speaker 3: We talked about Logan Henderson earlier. You got Conley early.
- 58:16Speaker 3: You got these kind of guys that show the stuff
- 58:19Speaker 3: and the miners they get up there and teams are
- 58:22Speaker 3: being more aggressive, like if they think they're ready, they're
- 58:24Speaker 3: throwing them out there and they're gonna they're letting them
- 58:26Speaker 3: learn of a job. And more or less, those guys
- 58:28Speaker 3: with the kind of power arsenals, they have that pitch
- 58:31Speaker 3: ability and then it's working out.
- 58:33Speaker 4: So I think you're right you.
- 58:36Speaker 3: I think pitching you you once you've hit a certain point.
- 58:39Speaker 3: I think, like your early thirties, like if there's morning signs,
- 58:42Speaker 3: run away, run away, because that's where I think a
- 58:44Speaker 3: lot of people got got caught with like the Shane
- 58:47Speaker 3: Biebers of the world and things like that, and saying, oh,
- 58:49Speaker 3: they're gonna come back, They're gonna be gonna be great
- 58:51Speaker 3: at Valdez Web like guys like that, Like it's it's
- 58:54Speaker 3: such a thin line if you're you're not playing with
- 58:57Speaker 3: that upside potential that you know, a few tweaks and
- 59:01Speaker 3: you are on the opposite side on the downward trend.
- 59:03Speaker 3: So I'm with you, like it, it gets your ace,
- 59:07Speaker 3: wait a little while, and then go with those upside
- 59:09Speaker 3: arms and you might be wrong on one, but a
- 59:12Speaker 3: few of are gonna hit and you are going to
- 59:14Speaker 3: be in a great, great position.
- 59:16Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 59:17Speaker 1: And I think on top of it too, like I
- 59:19Speaker 1: didn't end up with a lot of that kind of
- 59:21Speaker 1: cluster that you talked about, whereas like the young players
- 59:23Speaker 1: who really have broken out and have become kind of
- 59:26Speaker 1: number ones, because especially coming into the draft season, every
- 59:30Speaker 1: projection system would have told you no.
- 59:32Speaker 2: And so I think what.
- 59:34Speaker 1: I'm also kind of considering for next year and I'm
- 59:36Speaker 1: still trying to figure out how I'm gonna do this
- 59:37Speaker 1: is like I know, you know, sarahs does this is
- 59:40Speaker 1: that I'm not even gonna use like what the projections
- 59:43Speaker 1: tell me. I think for pitching that I'm going to
- 59:46Speaker 1: try to like teer it with the market in terms
- 59:49Speaker 1: of the prices and find like the guys that I
- 59:52Speaker 1: like and pull.
- 59:52Speaker 2: Them forward and rank them appropriately.
- 59:55Speaker 1: That Like, I'm just gonna totally throw that away because
- 59:58Speaker 1: I think if I had, I would have pulled somebody
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: like Schlitzler much yeas mess much higher and more closer
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: to uh. Like it was one of my first pieces
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: at BP is like, Man, I really wish I had
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: had the guts when I knew that Schlitzler was more
- 1:00:16Speaker 1: of like a Jacob de Grammy type and actually kind
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: of following through with that in my draft plans. So
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: I think there's there's a level with pitching nowadays that
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: you have to be bold, you have to really push
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: the envelope because just the way that teams are using
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: these players, you're chasing the hottest thing that is gonna
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: maybe burn out in a month. But you've got to
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: do that because that's just what pitching is in the
- 1:00:41Speaker 1: modern day game. And it's kind of funny how that
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: goes downstream and impacts us on the fantasy side.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: You're right, it's it's a it's a fickle game, pickle game.
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: Every year, I feel like we're.
- 1:00:52Speaker 4: Learning something new.
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: You gotta adjust, so but hey, that's that's why why
- 1:00:56Speaker 3: it's so fun.
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: Yes exactly, that's why keeps this on our toes.
