• 0:07
Speaker 1: The Season with Peter Scheger is a production of the
• 0:09
Speaker 1: NFL in partnership with iHeartRadio. What's Up, everybody, Welcome to
• 0:25
Speaker 1: the season with Peter Schrager. We are in the thick
• 0:28
Speaker 1: of it in the NFL preseason now. Every single team
• 0:31
Speaker 1: has played and as we record this, there was a
• 0:34
Speaker 1: flurry of action around the NFL yesterday and I want
• 0:38
Speaker 1: to hit two of the key moves, the first one
• 0:41
Speaker 1: being Dalvin Cook signing with the New York Jets.
• 0:44
  Speaker 2: I think everyone's immediate reaction.
• 0:46
Speaker 1: Was like, oh, okay, wow, like they're there, and what's
• 0:48
Speaker 1: that mean about breethol I can tell you this, Dalvin
• 0:51
Speaker 1: Cook is going to be.
• 0:52
  Speaker 2: A part of a committee.
• 0:53
Speaker 1: They're going to rotate who hands the ball, and they're
• 0:56
Speaker 1: going to ride the hot hand when it's appropriate. Dalvin
• 0:58
Speaker 1: Cook is a nice to have, not a need to have.
• 1:02
Speaker 1: Speaking with my Jets sources over the last several weeks,
• 1:04
Speaker 1: they were always very interested.
• 1:05
  Speaker 3: In Dalvin Cook.
• 1:05
Speaker 1: In fact, they brought him to practice a couple Sundays
• 1:08
Speaker 1: ago and it was the practice that I happened to
• 1:10
Speaker 1: be at and they let him just walk freely. Basically,
• 1:13
Speaker 1: everybody want be in the state in the building, on
• 1:15
Speaker 1: the field talk to whoever. And he was there tapping
• 1:19
Speaker 1: up the coaches and dapping up Rogers and Heyan Rodgers
• 1:21
Speaker 1: spoke for a while, but my big takeaway was watching him.
• 1:24
Speaker 1: He was basically chaperoned by Woody Johnson and Christopher Johnson.
• 1:28
Speaker 2: Are the two owners of the team. I thought it
• 1:30
  Speaker 2: was interesting.
• 1:30
Speaker 1: Because at the same time Dalvin Cook is talking with
• 1:34
Speaker 1: the Dolphins and at the same time Dalvin Cook is
• 1:37
Speaker 1: talking to the Broncos. These are AFC rivals, one of
• 1:40
Speaker 1: them in the division, one of them in the AFC West,
• 1:42
Speaker 1: and I'm wondering what in the heck is going on,
• 1:45
Speaker 1: And I thought it was interesting. The Jets guys told
• 1:48
Speaker 1: me they wanted Dalvin to get a feel for what's
• 1:51
Speaker 1: going on here, that they are really confident in the
• 1:53
Speaker 1: vibe and that there is a contagious factor to the
• 1:57
Speaker 1: energy that this team has right now. And they thought,
• 2:00
Speaker 1: if Dalvin's considering us and it's gonna be us for
• 2:02
Speaker 1: his other teams, let him know what he could have
• 2:05
Speaker 1: if he joins this school here. In the end, that
• 2:09
Speaker 1: energy was unreal that day. That was the day that
• 2:11
Speaker 1: Alan Lazard caught a touchdown in the back of the
• 2:13
Speaker 1: end zone fans were there channing Aaron Rodgers and it
• 2:15
Speaker 1: was that back to Football weekend with the NFL, and
• 2:18
Speaker 1: the juice was electric and the numbers worked out. I
• 2:21
Speaker 1: think eight point six million, But to be completely candid,
• 2:25
Speaker 1: it's more than I expected him having as a max contract.
• 2:28
Speaker 1: It's seven base and then he can make one point
• 2:30
  Speaker 1: six more.
• 2:31
Speaker 3: I thought that this late in.
• 2:32
Speaker 1: The game August fourteenth, there wasn't a long line of
• 2:34
Speaker 1: suitors who were bidding for him, that maybe you would
• 2:37
Speaker 1: have to take a discount. That is not a discount,
• 2:39
Speaker 1: yes against nineteen ninety five, rationally speaking running back to
• 2:43
Speaker 1: other positions maybe, but in twenty twenty three and August fifteenth,
• 2:47
Speaker 1: to sign a deal for eight point six million dollars
• 2:49
Speaker 1: of a running back when you're not necessarily the number
• 2:51
Speaker 1: one guy, that's pretty good money.
• 2:53
Speaker 2: So how is he going to be used?
• 2:55
Speaker 1: I think Breas Hall is still still targeted for a
• 2:59
Speaker 1: Week one and I think he and Breshall both are
• 3:01
Speaker 1: going to get featured in a lot of ways. And
• 3:03
Speaker 1: I still think Brishall might be the number one guy.
• 3:05
Speaker 1: So Dalvin Cook Bristol, they love Michael Carter who's there.
• 3:09
Speaker 1: They drafted a rookie at a pit. Is he he
• 3:11
Speaker 1: can scoot Bam Knight was good for them last year.
• 3:14
  Speaker 1: This's a loaded running backs room. I don't think this
• 3:17
Speaker 1: is okay Dalvin Cook thirty carries in a game go,
• 3:20
Speaker 1: But I do think there's an opportunity for Dalvin Cook
• 3:23
Speaker 1: to get ten to fifteen carries early on, maybe fifteen
• 3:26
Speaker 1: to twenty carries going, and it does make the Jets
• 3:29
Speaker 1: much better. I'm bringing in my wonderful producer and friend,
• 3:33
Speaker 1: Aaron wang Kaufman from an objective standpoint, not a Jets
• 3:36
Speaker 1: fan standpoint, but in your case, a Bills fan standpoint,
• 3:39
Speaker 1: which might not be really objective at all, but you
• 3:41
Speaker 1: know what I mean, not a fan of the team.
• 3:43
Speaker 1: Does it feel like this is a oh that I
• 3:47
Speaker 1: must have? Or does this feel like it's a guy
• 3:49
Speaker 1: who's at the blackjack table and it's like got sixteen
• 3:51
Speaker 1: and he's like, ah, why not, we're feeling good, let's hit.
• 3:54
Speaker 4: It feels a lot like just a totally different mindset
• 3:59
Speaker 4: for the Jets. And I think of it a lot
• 4:02
Speaker 4: like Brady, you know where kind of Brady went to
• 4:05
Speaker 4: the bucks and was like I want to win, Like,
• 4:07
Speaker 4: get me the pieces and Rogers coming in and you
• 4:09
Speaker 4: had the interview with him where he he was like,
• 4:11
Speaker 4: I'm gonna take less money because I want to put
• 4:14
Speaker 4: the best players around me. It feels it feels like
• 4:18
Speaker 4: like an all Star team and it's scary, and like,
• 4:20
Speaker 4: you know that doesn't Yeah, you mentioned i isy Abanacanda,
• 4:25
Speaker 4: you mentioned Bam Knight, who I really like. Michael Carter's
• 4:28
  Speaker 4: still there.
• 4:28
Speaker 5: Like they have a.
• 4:29
Speaker 4: Lot of guys and it's not even mentioning Breeze Hall.
• 4:32
  Speaker 5: Yeah that's huge.
• 4:33
Speaker 1: Yeah, they're loaded at running back. Their biggest issue is
• 4:35
Speaker 1: going to be the offensive line. But that's so many
• 4:38
Speaker 1: teams in the league, and every team's an injury away
• 4:41
Speaker 1: from their line being a thing. Look, I know fans
• 4:43
Speaker 1: have been getting on me since the Rodgers interview that
• 4:45
Speaker 1: I've been you know.
• 4:46
Speaker 3: Pro Jets, Like it's not because of that.
• 4:48
Speaker 1: The Jets are really good this year. The Jets are
• 4:49
Speaker 1: playoff team this year. Like, they are really good this
• 4:52
Speaker 1: year and this makes them even better.
• 4:54
Speaker 3: So that's the Jets side of it.
• 4:55
Speaker 1: But a couple hours before that, Ezekiel Elliott signed with
• 4:59
Speaker 1: the Patriots, and I like that signing too.
• 5:02
  Speaker 5: Six million dollars.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: That is a bargain for a guy like Ezekiel Elliott
• 5:05
Speaker 1: who was hurt last year.
• 5:07
Speaker 3: And again similar situation.
• 5:09
Speaker 1: What I was saying with Cook and Hall, this does
• 5:11
Speaker 1: not mean ramondre Stevenson is not the number one guy.
• 5:13
Speaker 1: They love ramondre Stevens, and I know people at that
• 5:15
Speaker 1: building that are like, our offense is going to be
• 5:18
Speaker 1: what we get out of Mac Jones in the passing game,
• 5:20
Speaker 1: and it's gonna be based around ramondre Stevens. And you know,
• 5:23
Speaker 1: add Ezekiel Elliott and now you've got two running backs,
• 5:26
Speaker 1: you've got a solid offensive line, and they did add
• 5:28
Speaker 1: some some strength that receiver. That's better than last year.
• 5:31
Speaker 1: And Bill o'bryan's called the shots. So Patriots quietly adding
• 5:34
Speaker 1: Ezekiel Elliott for six million dollars on August fifteenth.
• 5:37
Speaker 2: I like that too.
• 5:38
Speaker 1: And with that, as we record this podcast today, I
• 5:41
Speaker 1: just got the note that Anthony Richardson is going to
• 5:43
Speaker 1: be the starter in Indianapolis, which is really interesting considering
• 5:48
Speaker 1: his age, his experience in college, not even close to
• 5:52
Speaker 1: some of the other quarterbacks that were drafted in the
• 5:54
Speaker 1: first round, and what he has around him not exactly
• 5:57
Speaker 1: an elite wide receivers unit. And we don't know what's
• 6:00
Speaker 1: up with Jonathan Taylor, so thrown him to the wolves
• 6:02
Speaker 1: a little bit. But you know what we've learned time
• 6:05
Speaker 1: and time again, sometimes he got a sink or swim.
• 6:07
Speaker 1: They're going with that method and the Colts are going
• 6:09
Speaker 1: to start. Anthony Richardson, who threw an ugly pick six
• 6:12
Speaker 1: that looked really technically wrong over the weekend, but also
• 6:16
Speaker 1: had a beautiful pass deep that was incomplete but was
• 6:20
Speaker 1: everything was done right on his end. NFL News, it
• 6:23
Speaker 1: is coming, it is going, It is all over the place,
• 6:25
Speaker 1: is updates day to day, and we are in the
• 6:28
Speaker 1: thick of it already. And yet today is a special
• 6:31
Speaker 1: day for a friend of mine. Jared Freed is a
• 6:32
Speaker 1: stand up comedian. He has been doing this for thirteen years.
• 6:37
Speaker 3: He has been doing open mic nights for years.
• 6:39
Speaker 1: He's been traveling the country for years, and this week
• 6:42
Speaker 1: Jared's got a special coming to Netflix. This is a
• 6:45
Speaker 1: major deal for a comedian, huge placement. We know the
• 6:48
Speaker 1: reach of Netflix, and for any comedian to get this
• 6:51
Speaker 1: opportunity is really cool deal. And I'm proud of Jared
• 6:53
Speaker 1: who has been hacking away at it for years and
• 6:56
Speaker 1: now this is his moment. So with no further ado,
• 7:00
Speaker 1: a comedian with some football ties, you'll see what I mean.
• 7:03
  Speaker 3: Mister Jared Freed.
• 7:09
Speaker 2: Our guest is a friend of mine.
• 7:11
Speaker 1: But long before we got to know each other, I
• 7:13
Speaker 1: was a big fan of his comedy and his work.
• 7:15
Speaker 1: And he's got a special that is hitting Netflix today today,
• 7:20
Speaker 1: a Netflix special it's called thirty seven and single. There
• 7:23
Speaker 1: are football ties to our relationship. Let's bring in the
• 7:26
Speaker 1: great Jared Free. Jared, what's up?
• 7:28
Speaker 6: Man, shregs. Thank you so much. It is such a
• 7:32
Speaker 6: pleasure to be here with you. It is like, uh,
• 7:37
Speaker 6: it's amazing. Because I was saying to someone else, I
• 7:39
Speaker 6: was like, I you rarely make an adult friend. Yes,
• 7:44
Speaker 6: you know, And I feel like I can say it confident.
• 7:47
Speaker 6: We've become friends and that, you know, that means a lot,
• 7:50
Speaker 6: Like you know, you don't go on like like we
• 7:51
Speaker 6: went and got dinner, and I was like, I don't
• 7:53
Speaker 6: think I can remember a time that I had like
• 7:56
Speaker 6: a first dinner friend date.
• 7:59
Speaker 1: It's not common, it's not something that most men do.
• 8:02
Speaker 1: But it was one of those deals where we had
• 8:04
Speaker 1: been texting, we have been dming, we have been laughing
• 8:06
Speaker 1: at each other stuff. I came on your podcast and
• 8:08
Speaker 1: I'm like, we should go out in New York City
• 8:11
Speaker 1: and then we just did.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: We're like, let's just go do it. And that is
• 8:14
Speaker 3: I'm secure in that I loved it.
• 8:16
Speaker 5: I loved it. I loved every second of it.
• 8:18
Speaker 6: It made me like mad at myself that I don't
• 8:20
Speaker 6: do it more often. Just two guys gabbing about Jewish
• 8:25
Speaker 6: summer camp and you know, and people we know in common,
• 8:30
Speaker 6: like it really felt like and and you know, it's
• 8:33
Speaker 6: funny if you go to a if you go to
• 8:34
  Speaker 6: a restaurant like I, I do a lot of like
• 8:36
Speaker 6: a Loane eating. Not to make myself sound sad, the
• 8:39
Speaker 6: name of the special is thirty seven and single. Yes,
• 8:42
Speaker 6: this all sounds sad, but when you're at a dinner
• 8:45
Speaker 6: place and you have your headphones in and you look
• 8:46
Speaker 6: around a restaurant, it is all female friendships.
• 8:49
Speaker 5: Yes, it is not one. There's very few times.
• 8:53
Speaker 6: Where you see two dudes just talking fantasy football, talking,
• 8:58
Speaker 6: you know, talking sharing the hot gossip like Choke, the
• 9:04
Speaker 6: spinachen art We we base made out. You know, we
• 9:08
Speaker 6: ate from the same spinning Gennarto Choke dip cauldron.
• 9:12
  Speaker 5: So that's you know, that's that's that's enough for me.
• 9:15
Speaker 1: Well, I think at you're a stand up comedian, and
• 9:18
Speaker 1: what I love is that we we I went on
• 9:20
Speaker 1: your podcast. I'm like, I really like this guy's stuff,
• 9:22
Speaker 1: and it was oddly similar to my world in the
• 9:26
Speaker 1: broadcasting world, and that it's like.
• 9:27
  Speaker 3: Dogg eat dog.
• 9:28
Speaker 2: You're doing your own thing.
• 9:30
Speaker 1: But you said it, you're like politicians, comedians and broadcasters.
• 9:36
Speaker 1: We are the three people that travel all over the
• 9:38
Speaker 1: country and see the darkest regions.
• 9:40
Speaker 3: Of the of this fine place.
• 9:43
Speaker 5: We see the whole country.
• 9:44
Speaker 6: That's a Michelle Wolf thing that I extended to broadcasters
• 9:48
Speaker 6: because when we were sitting together.
• 9:50
Speaker 5: I was like, oh, you know, it's Michelle O.
• 9:53
Speaker 6: Wolf always said politicians and comedians see the whole are
• 9:56
Speaker 6: the only people that see the whole country. And then
• 9:57
Speaker 6: I was thinking of you, and I was like, you're
• 9:59
Speaker 6: in that group too, like we see. You know, not
• 10:02
Speaker 6: many people spend a weekend in Buffalo, even though we
• 10:05
Speaker 6: know Buffalo from football world, Like you know, we know
• 10:08
Speaker 6: Buffalo and Green Bay because they are famous from football.
• 10:12
Speaker 6: They are not famous from city and then they had
• 10:15
Speaker 6: a football team like it, So not many people And
• 10:19
Speaker 6: again I've just turned off all of Buffalo. They're the
• 10:22
Speaker 6: most sensitive town in the world. They're a bunch of babies.
• 10:26
  Speaker 2: I always a comedy town.
• 10:27
Speaker 3: Do they come out it stinks?
• 10:31
Speaker 5: Well they come out.
• 10:32
Speaker 6: No, let me just say this, I don't none of
• 10:34
Speaker 6: them will hear me beyond it stinks. I they are
• 10:38
Speaker 6: just Buffalo needs you to love Buffalo?
• 10:41
  Speaker 5: Got it? Buffalo?
• 10:42
Speaker 6: Kind of when you go on stage, it's like if
• 10:44
Speaker 6: you don't say start your set by saying, let me hey, everybody,
• 10:49
Speaker 6: I love it here, love.
• 10:50
Speaker 5: The wings, love the wings.
• 10:52
Speaker 6: You guys are great. Oh my god, you're you're the underdog.
• 10:55
Speaker 6: Oh who couldn't cheer for the bills. If you don't
• 10:58
Speaker 6: say that before you start your act, they won't let
• 11:00
Speaker 6: you do your act.
• 11:02
  Speaker 5: It's just they're very sensitive.
• 11:04
Speaker 6: And the worst type of sensitive people are the ones
• 11:07
  Speaker 6: that don't think they're sensitive.
• 11:09
Speaker 5: You know you know so, and and there's only sensitive.
• 11:12
Speaker 5: They're not sensitive aout material. You can talk about anything
• 11:15
  Speaker 5: you want.
• 11:16
Speaker 6: You just better agree that Buffalo is a great place
• 11:20
Speaker 6: to grow up and live and settle down.
• 11:22
Speaker 5: Like that's it. That's all they want to hear.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: We go through a wee good morning football, and it's
• 11:26
Speaker 1: a lot of you don't respect our team.
• 11:28
Speaker 3: You don't talk to our team. And it was a
• 11:30
Speaker 3: Bills for a while.
• 11:31
Speaker 1: Now we do, but like for years it was Bengals fans,
• 11:33
Speaker 1: it's Lions fans. And it's because historically those teams haven't
• 11:36
Speaker 1: been relevant towards the end of the season, but they
• 11:38
  Speaker 1: eternalize it.
• 11:39
Speaker 3: And then it's like when we do talk about them,
• 11:41
Speaker 3: we just get showered with loaf.
• 11:43
Speaker 6: It's like, yeah, I mean, yes, they're the most passionate.
• 11:46
Speaker 6: Those are all cold weather cities, those are all like
• 11:49
Speaker 6: hard working cities that you know, Listen, I'm from outside
• 11:52
Speaker 6: of Boston. I grew up outside of Boston. I nobody knows.
• 11:57
Speaker 6: You think you're better than me, better than a Boston person.
• 12:00
  Speaker 5: Okay, nobody knows.
• 12:02
Speaker 6: I mean, we were like seven championships in on on
• 12:06
Speaker 6: this magical run and they were still going, they're not
• 12:09
Speaker 6: talking about us. You know, they don't respect us. You know,
• 12:12
Speaker 6: the Patriots way was all built on that kind of
• 12:16
Speaker 6: you know, illusion that no one believes in the Patriots
• 12:20
Speaker 6: and they're all looking over the Patriots. So I understand
• 12:23
Speaker 6: that mentality perfectly well, but it is funny to like,
• 12:27
Speaker 6: you know, now, as a Patriots fan of sorts. When
• 12:31
Speaker 6: you go somewhere and you say, oh, I like the Patriots,
• 12:33
Speaker 6: they think I started yesterday. People think that I like
• 12:36
Speaker 6: jumped on the minute. You know, Tom Brady would had,
• 12:38
Speaker 6: you know, a supermodel on his arm, and it's like,
• 12:40
Speaker 6: that's not the case. I'm like you, I grew up
• 12:42
Speaker 6: in an area where I like my team too.
• 12:45
Speaker 1: You're like, I was there when Hugh Millen was the quarterback,
• 12:47
Speaker 1: So back off. That's it, Jared. When you do the
• 12:51
  Speaker 1: comedy for a living, it's a lot of airports, it's
• 12:54
Speaker 1: a lot of everyone thinks it's glamorous.
• 12:55
Speaker 3: And but I think some of the stuff, the best
• 12:57
Speaker 3: stuff you do is just.
• 12:58
Speaker 1: Like Delta lounge humor and like getting into the Delta
• 13:02
Speaker 1: lounge and you know when you're stuck at a connection
• 13:05
Speaker 1: and you missed the gate and all that stuff. Like
• 13:07
Speaker 1: That's why I'm enjoying your stuff the most. Your your
• 13:10
Speaker 1: special thirty seven and single. But I think it's a
• 13:12
Speaker 1: lot of like this is the ultimate compliment, but it's
• 13:14
Speaker 1: a lot of like that Seinfeld style, like you ever
• 13:16
Speaker 1: notice and right it hits it.
• 13:19
Speaker 6: I appreciate it, you know, I take a lot of
• 13:22
Speaker 6: pride in I'm just a normal dude, Like I like
• 13:25
Speaker 6: my family, I go on dates.
• 13:29
Speaker 5: You know, I don't have a sad tale to tell.
• 13:31
Speaker 6: Some comedians are gonna come up and tell you their
• 13:34
Speaker 6: tragedies and their upbringing.
• 13:36
Speaker 5: I don't really have that to really talk about.
• 13:38
Speaker 6: Like I, you know, grew up in a suburb outside
• 13:41
Speaker 6: of a major city, you know, like.
• 13:43
Speaker 5: During you know, nineteen nineties kid.
• 13:45
Speaker 6: You know, so I'm I always consider myself the center
• 13:49
Speaker 6: part of the bell curve, like I'm ten percent away
• 13:51
Speaker 6: from the guy you're dating, your brother, your cousin, the
• 13:55
Speaker 6: guy who dumped you, the guy you dumped, you know.
• 13:57
Speaker 6: And when I talk about dating especially, that's kind of
• 14:00
Speaker 6: why people have, like, you know, gotten involved with the
• 14:03
Speaker 6: things I talk about because it's honest and it's fun
• 14:06
Speaker 6: and it's light hearted and it's meant to connect with people.
• 14:08
Speaker 5: I'm not looking to be.
• 14:09
Speaker 6: Some special artists out there telling my jokes and you
• 14:14
Speaker 6: know in an alley like I want the big crowds.
• 14:18
Speaker 5: I want I want people to connect.
• 14:20
Speaker 6: And like when I go talk about being in the
• 14:22
Speaker 6: Delta Lounge and how I feel that there's too many
• 14:26
Speaker 6: people in there and how there should be a tiered
• 14:30
Speaker 6: you know, I just think the Delta lounge.
• 14:32
Speaker 5: There needs to be levels.
• 14:34
Speaker 6: There needs to be a pyramid, and the more miles
• 14:36
Speaker 6: you have, the higher up on the pyramid you get
• 14:38
Speaker 6: to go until there's one seat on the top.
• 14:40
  Speaker 5: That's a king's you know.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: The one person who travels the most can have all
• 14:46
Speaker 1: the free cottage, cheese and candle up they want.
• 14:48
Speaker 5: That's right, and look down on everyone else. That's what
• 14:50
  Speaker 5: I want.
• 14:51
Speaker 6: I want the ability to look down on lesser Delta
• 14:55
Speaker 6: medallion you know, holding well, I'll tell you.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: I was at LaGuardia, I guess it was LaGuardia a
• 15:00
Speaker 1: few weeks ago, and there was a line twenty deep
• 15:03
Speaker 1: to get into the Delta lounge, and that was frustrating.
• 15:05
Speaker 3: I sat at the gate instead.
• 15:07
Speaker 6: Horrific And you know, I remember they were everyone was
• 15:10
Speaker 6: in one line. And then immediately I tweeted there should
• 15:14
Speaker 6: be different lines for different tiers of Delta, and then
• 15:17
  Speaker 6: they did it.
• 15:18
Speaker 5: They actually started doing a diamond There's a.
• 15:20
Speaker 6: Diamond medallion lane that I strolled through and then I
• 15:24
Speaker 6: cough on everyone in the other line. I just make
• 15:27
Speaker 6: sure to cough on them, just to let them know
• 15:29
Speaker 6: who's in charge, you know.
• 15:31
Speaker 5: The little Guardia situation. I don't know what they're gonna do.
• 15:34
Speaker 5: There better be another entrance that they're buildings.
• 15:37
Speaker 3: It takes twelve miles to get to the to the gates.
• 15:40
Speaker 6: What's going on you They must be building another entrance,
• 15:44
Speaker 6: I hope to God because and this, this other entrance
• 15:48
Speaker 6: must be a rine not to be believed, because to
• 15:52
Speaker 6: not open it before as everything's going on. Because I've walked,
• 15:56
Speaker 6: I have gotten back from like Albany, and it's taken
• 16:00
Speaker 6: me longer to get from the gate to the uber
• 16:03
Speaker 6: than it did to Albany itself.
• 16:04
Speaker 3: It's crazy. They're doing construction. If you're not, this is
• 16:07
Speaker 3: a very niche LaGuardia Airport tells it.
• 16:10
  Speaker 5: But I don't care.
• 16:12
Speaker 3: They're doing They're doing construction. And they opened the new
• 16:15
Speaker 3: gates and they're very luxurious.
• 16:17
  Speaker 1: There's like a Bubby's in one of them, and there's
• 16:19
Speaker 1: right you know, there's high end stuff and you can
• 16:21
Speaker 1: get dig in or you can have you know, whatever
• 16:24
Speaker 1: it is. However, there's studing in construction on the outside,
• 16:27
Speaker 1: so you have to walk underneath like a tunnel with
• 16:29
Speaker 1: like wood like dangling from the walls, and it's forever.
• 16:32
  Speaker 3: It's a twenty minute walk.
• 16:34
  Speaker 5: Eight mile walk.
• 16:35
Speaker 6: And if people are wondering, yes, thirty seven and Single
• 16:39
Speaker 6: is about two minutes of dating material and then another
• 16:43
Speaker 6: fifty eight minutes of LaGuardia Gate humor. So if anyone's wondering,
• 16:49
Speaker 6: this is exactly what you're gonna get on the special.
• 16:52
Speaker 1: The special is on Netflix and I watched it last night.
• 16:55
  Speaker 5: It's great.
• 16:55
Speaker 1: It's an hour, it's awesome, and it just goes up
• 16:59
Speaker 1: this week. And I'll tell you, you hit on something
• 17:02
Speaker 1: that I kind of internalized and I felt bad about.
• 17:04
Speaker 1: I've been married for for ten years now and I
• 17:07
Speaker 1: was dating my wife for five years before that, so
• 17:10
Speaker 1: I missed the whole online hinge, bumble tender, all that stuff,
• 17:15
Speaker 1: and you hit on it. You're like, there's nothing worse
• 17:18
Speaker 1: than the married guy who's like, let's take this for
• 17:20
Speaker 1: a dabble and starts like almost condescendingly.
• 17:22
Speaker 3: Like, oh, this is awesome. I would like, no, it's
• 17:25
Speaker 3: not awesome. It sucks. I have done that to my
• 17:27
  Speaker 3: single friends.
• 17:28
Speaker 1: And you caught me red handed where I'm like, let's
• 17:30
Speaker 1: just see and I'm like, oh, this is crazy, and
• 17:33
Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, it's my life, dude.
• 17:34
Speaker 6: They want to play your married friends. Want to play
• 17:38
Speaker 6: with Tinder, play with hinge as if it's your like,
• 17:42
Speaker 6: you know, your poker game on your phone.
• 17:44
Speaker 5: Oh, let me just try it. You know that actually
• 17:47
  Speaker 5: happened to me.
• 17:48
Speaker 6: This is what you know, you know the beauty of
• 17:51
Speaker 6: dating apps. Dating apps were created by male nerds who
• 17:54
Speaker 6: didn't want to get turned down. There's very few instances
• 17:58
Speaker 6: of getting turned down on an app.
• 17:59
Speaker 5: What you do is you swipe.
• 18:01
Speaker 6: You swipe left if you don't like them, and you
• 18:04
Speaker 6: swipe right if you do like them, wipe right and
• 18:07
Speaker 6: you get a match, you go, oh, they like me,
• 18:09
Speaker 6: of course. If you swipe right and you get no
• 18:11
Speaker 6: match right away, your first thought, strangely, is oh, they
• 18:16
Speaker 6: they haven't seen me.
• 18:20
Speaker 5: They'll get to me later. They'll get to me at
• 18:23
  Speaker 5: one point.
• 18:23
Speaker 6: So it's a very cocky place to be on and
• 18:27
Speaker 6: so very rarely do you get hit in the heart
• 18:30
Speaker 6: and the way you did in the old days that
• 18:32
Speaker 6: I did in the old days, where you go up
• 18:34
Speaker 6: to a woman with a flower in your hand, you
• 18:37
Speaker 6: go on a date with me. That happens very that
• 18:40
Speaker 6: doesn't happen on it.
• 18:41
Speaker 3: Can you not pick up a girl though?
• 18:43
Speaker 2: Like in a like?
• 18:44
Speaker 3: Does that not happen anymore. We just go up to
• 18:45
Speaker 3: a girl, or is that weird?
• 18:47
Speaker 6: You can do that, but my point is really that
• 18:50
Speaker 6: you can't that on the dating app.
• 18:53
Speaker 5: It's the reason it exists is to not have a
• 18:56
  Speaker 5: public interaction.
• 18:57
Speaker 2: No rejection, no rejection ever.
• 19:00
Speaker 6: The one time I felt rejected on a dating app,
• 19:02
Speaker 6: there was a girl I matched with. I'll never forget it.
• 19:05
Speaker 6: I'm swiping when you know, hinge whatever, I don't remember
• 19:08
Speaker 6: the app. And there's this girl and she's cute, and
• 19:11
Speaker 6: she's like my type and Jewish and Penn State. I
• 19:15
Speaker 6: went to Penn State. So I'm like, wow, and we
• 19:18
Speaker 6: have all these friends in common.
• 19:19
Speaker 5: You can kind of like, you know, you go look
• 19:20
Speaker 5: them up. Oh my god, I know.
• 19:22
Speaker 6: And I'm like and I'm send a message, no response,
• 19:25
Speaker 6: but you go, I guess they haven't seen me yet.
• 19:27
Speaker 6: And like you know, a little time goes by and
• 19:31
Speaker 6: I messaged my friend that we had in common. I'm like, hey,
• 19:33
Speaker 6: because this is what happens on a dating app. You
• 19:35
Speaker 6: get attached to something that doesn't exist. It's just a match.
• 19:38
Speaker 6: It's very small. And I text my friend. I go, hey, man,
• 19:41
Speaker 6: you know this person I match with him on a
• 19:44
Speaker 6: dating app. What's the scoop is really what I was wondering,
• 19:47
Speaker 6: he goes. A day later he texted me, he goes, hey, man,
• 19:50
Speaker 6: she said her friend was playing with the.
• 19:53
Speaker 5: App and that's why you.
• 19:54
Speaker 6: Guys matched and it's gonna be and then she Randy
• 19:58
Speaker 6: Jackson me. She was like, it's gonna be a no
• 20:00
Speaker 6: from me, dog, and that was it.
• 20:04
  Speaker 3: So it's crazy.
• 20:05
Speaker 6: It's crazy, but this is what happens when people go,
• 20:07
Speaker 6: I want to play with the app, but it's like,
• 20:09
Speaker 6: how about not? How about you let me you know,
• 20:11
Speaker 6: how about you fix me up with someone you're thinking
• 20:13
Speaker 6: of me for? Like, that's the thing. Married people they
• 20:16
Speaker 6: have to understand. All their single friends do want to
• 20:19
Speaker 6: be fixed up. They want to be fixed up thoughtfully,
• 20:22
Speaker 6: because what they'll say married people, what they'll do is
• 20:25
  Speaker 6: they'll go.
• 20:25
Speaker 5: Want to meet my friend, and then you have to
• 20:28
Speaker 5: beg You go, can I see a picture?
• 20:30
Speaker 6: You're like, and now it's like and then they look
• 20:33
Speaker 6: at you when you go can I see a picture?
• 20:34
Speaker 5: They're like, who do you think you are? You? Yeah? Yeah,
• 20:38
Speaker 5: what do you think? Well? She's not good enough for you?
• 20:40
Speaker 6: It's like, how about you give me all the information
• 20:43
Speaker 6: I would get on a dating app, but also with
• 20:45
Speaker 6: your thumbs up approval.
• 20:46
Speaker 5: That's what people want. We want to know that these
• 20:48
Speaker 5: aren't these crazies that are out there.
• 20:52
Speaker 1: You hit on something in your podcast couple of weeks
• 20:53
Speaker 1: ago because I listen to your podcast Jaytrain, which is
• 20:56
Speaker 1: I Love, and you were like, sometimes you'll see like
• 20:59
Speaker 1: the same women on the dating apps for years and
• 21:02
Speaker 1: they're always there, and then one day they'll just not
• 21:04
Speaker 1: be on and you're like, it they found someone.
• 21:07
Speaker 6: A proud of them, but proud of them, good for them,
• 21:11
  Speaker 6: happy for them.
• 21:12
Speaker 5: That's the thing. It's like about whatever happened to that
• 21:14
  Speaker 5: one Whatever.
• 21:16
Speaker 6: You see people around the city that I've seen, I'm like,
• 21:18
Speaker 6: how do I know them? Oh, I've been looking at
• 21:20
Speaker 6: their picture for eighteen years on the dating app?
• 21:22
Speaker 5: I will say it is.
• 21:25
Speaker 6: You know, the thing about dating, it's a very personal
• 21:28
Speaker 6: thing that's not personal, you know, like everyone's just trying
• 21:31
Speaker 6: to get to where they feel comfy, cozy. It's not
• 21:34
Speaker 6: like there's no hatred in it, even though it feels bad.
• 21:38
  Speaker 5: So it is.
• 21:39
Speaker 6: I love talking about dating stuff because and especially from
• 21:42
Speaker 6: a male point of view, because there's not a lot
• 21:44
Speaker 6: of straight guys that are out there kind of like
• 21:46
Speaker 6: talking about in an edible way. So it's really nice
• 21:49
Speaker 6: to hear back from like women. You know that for
• 21:51
Speaker 6: the podcast, most of my listeners are women, and they're like, yo, okay,
• 21:55
Speaker 6: it's nice to hear that. It was like not that
• 21:57
Speaker 6: big a deal as maybe I made it out to be,
• 22:00
Speaker 6: you know. And it's stuff like that where you see
• 22:02
Speaker 6: someone for years, you don't wish them bad, you don't
• 22:05
Speaker 6: wish them you know, you're just like, oh, good, find someone.
• 22:08
Speaker 1: It's interesting because you're here talking about dating advice very relevant,
• 22:12
Speaker 1: you do the Bachelor reviews, and then you also have
• 22:15
Speaker 1: this other gear where like you hang out at the
• 22:17
Speaker 1: Comedy Seller and you're with David Tail and Jim Norton
• 22:20
Speaker 1: and whoever else, and you hang with that crowd like
• 22:22
Speaker 1: I feel like you can go with any group because
• 22:24
Speaker 1: it's pretty relatable. But you also have this like you're
• 22:27
Speaker 1: a comedians comedian piece to you too.
• 22:29
  Speaker 5: I appreciate that.
• 22:30
Speaker 6: Yeah, you know, I've been doing stand up every night
• 22:33
  Speaker 6: for thirteen years.
• 22:34
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 22:34
Speaker 5: That's why this special is so special to me.
• 22:36
Speaker 6: It's like, you know, this is a validating thing to
• 22:39
Speaker 6: be on Netflix and to have an hour on there,
• 22:43
Speaker 6: you know, and like, you know, at the Seller, it
• 22:45
Speaker 6: was always like you know, at the Seller, it's people
• 22:48
Speaker 6: just ball busting all the comics, just making fun of
• 22:51
Speaker 6: each other before you go on stage. And like, you know,
• 22:54
Speaker 6: the thing I would get for was like Jared watches
• 22:57
Speaker 6: The Bachelor and thinks he knows things about dating, you know,
• 22:59
Speaker 6: and and it's funny to kind of like have that known.
• 23:03
Speaker 6: But like also you go on the same lineups as
• 23:06
Speaker 6: so many different comics, and especially like, you know, my peers,
• 23:09
Speaker 6: the people that I came up with, like you know
• 23:12
Speaker 6: that they're getting success in their own ways and their
• 23:15
Speaker 6: own arenas. Like I was out last night or two
• 23:18
Speaker 6: nights ago with Nimesh Patel, who's like blown up on TikTok,
• 23:22
Speaker 6: and then Michael Chay.
• 23:23
Speaker 5: Who's blown up you know SNL who doesn't know Michael
• 23:25
  Speaker 5: cha and.
• 23:26
Speaker 6: It's like we met at open mics, you know, just
• 23:29
Speaker 6: putting our name in a bucket, and it's like this
• 23:32
Speaker 6: amazing thing that and again and also Michelle Wolf, who
• 23:36
Speaker 6: like I opened for you know as a friend and
• 23:39
Speaker 6: peer on the road before she taped her Netflix special.
• 23:42
Speaker 6: So it's like it's it's really like nice and awesome
• 23:46
Speaker 6: that We all kind of text back and forth and
• 23:47
Speaker 6: figure out bits together. We all care about stand up,
• 23:50
Speaker 6: and you know, the thing is about stand up.
• 23:53
  Speaker 5: It's the prize.
• 23:54
Speaker 6: You get to do stand up if you do the
• 23:57
Speaker 6: other work, if you go to the open mics, if
• 23:59
Speaker 6: you write, if you do the Bachelor live scream. Not
• 24:02
Speaker 6: to say I don't love doing Bachelor stuff in podcasts,
• 24:04
Speaker 6: but those are all just servis getting people out to
• 24:08
  Speaker 6: shows to see.
• 24:09
Speaker 5: The hour, to see it the work in progress.
• 24:12
Speaker 6: Like you know what's cool for me is I tape
• 24:14
Speaker 6: this special thirty seven and single in December. I paid
• 24:19
Speaker 6: for it, I made it, I went to sell it,
• 24:22
Speaker 6: and it took all this time to sell. And during
• 24:26
Speaker 6: that time, what am I gonna do. I'm not gonna
• 24:28
Speaker 6: sit back and relax. I'm gonna go back on stage
• 24:31
Speaker 6: time to start again. You know That's why I new
• 24:33
Speaker 6: material and new material. Yeah, the most humbling thing in
• 24:36
Speaker 6: the world. That's why you don't you don't mean me.
• 24:39
  Speaker 6: You meet a stand up comic, they're they're they're gonna
• 24:42
Speaker 6: be self deprecating because you humble yourself every night. You
• 24:45
Speaker 6: fail every night if you're trying, if you're trying new material.
• 24:49
Speaker 6: So since December, I've been working on a whole new hour.
• 24:51
Speaker 6: So like the thing I'm most proud of, I'm proud
• 24:54
Speaker 6: of the special, I'm proud that it's on Netflix, but
• 24:56
Speaker 6: I've moved on mentally, I'm on the new hour. You
• 24:59
Speaker 6: know what does Tom Brady say, what's his favorite championship?
• 25:02
Speaker 6: The next one? That's my favorite special? So right now,
• 25:07
Speaker 6: at the end of thirty seven in single, I did
• 25:09
Speaker 6: like a little you know how, like in the Marvel movies,
• 25:11
Speaker 6: you saw little teas at the Marvel movies and the
• 25:15
Speaker 6: credits they do a little post credit scene. I did
• 25:18
Speaker 6: a post credit scene during the credits of my Parents,
• 25:20
Speaker 6: like giving me. So the whole next hour that I'm
• 25:24
Speaker 6: doing on the road right now, I'm doing, you know,
• 25:27
Speaker 6: all new material from the special. So if you watch
• 25:29
Speaker 6: a special and you want to come to a live show,
• 25:31
Speaker 6: it's all brand new. And it's all about going on
• 25:34
Speaker 6: vacation with my parents and what that's like and what
• 25:38
Speaker 6: that feels like in the weirdness of that and the
• 25:41
Speaker 6: weird and you know this, like you know how, some
• 25:44
Speaker 6: families just have that financial tie together that we never had.
• 25:49
Speaker 6: No other generation shared something like the family plan, the
• 25:53
Speaker 6: way we do with our generation, Like, you know, like
• 25:56
Speaker 6: no other generation called their parents the minute they landed
• 26:00
Speaker 6: somewhere at thirty eight, like I'm calling saying.
• 26:03
  Speaker 5: Landed, texting landed.
• 26:07
Speaker 6: I did that joke on the Tonight Show, and people
• 26:09
Speaker 6: every time I go to Boca. My parents live in Boca,
• 26:11
Speaker 6: of course they do the landed landed. Every Jewish mother landed.
• 26:18
Speaker 6: I saw landed, and it's because their kids do it too.
• 26:21
Speaker 6: So that's kind of the things I'm talking about for
• 26:23
Speaker 6: the next special. So it again because I love stand
• 26:27
Speaker 6: up and like, you know this, you're such like a
• 26:30
Speaker 6: stand up supporter, and that's you know how we connected.
• 26:33
Speaker 5: You knew, you know.
• 26:34
Speaker 6: I was like, we know when someone loves stand up
• 26:36
Speaker 6: and loves the comedy world. So when we first met
• 26:39
Speaker 6: and started talking, I was like, oh, this guy knows it.
• 26:42
Speaker 6: And it's like not many people do, you know, Like
• 26:45
Speaker 6: this is a this is a more niche thing than
• 26:48
Speaker 6: people want to believe.
• 26:49
Speaker 5: Because you and I we.
• 26:51
Speaker 6: Know football, we love football, but like we also know
• 26:54
Speaker 6: the bravado of football. Dudes, every football fan wants to
• 26:58
Speaker 6: believe they know funny, they know the comedians, they know
• 27:01
Speaker 6: the guy. I get that because that you know, I
• 27:04
Speaker 6: do shows where the women who follow me, they'll come
• 27:06
Speaker 6: to the show and they'll bring the boyfriend.
• 27:07
Speaker 5: The boyfriend be like, oh man, that was pretty good.
• 27:10
Speaker 5: I haven't heard of you, I you know.
• 27:11
Speaker 6: And then they name my friends to me to tell
• 27:14
Speaker 6: me how much they know, and it's like, you know,
• 27:16
Speaker 6: it's so it is just this like smaller world than
• 27:20
Speaker 6: anyone would believe, and it's really nice that like when
• 27:23
Speaker 6: people come to shows and appreciate it and like know
• 27:26
Speaker 6: the world a little bit.
• 27:27
Speaker 1: Well, I can only imagine the boyfriend's initial re actually
• 27:29
  Speaker 1: doesn't know you, And it's like the girlfriend's like, I
• 27:33
Speaker 1: love this guy's reviews of the Batcher, why don't you
• 27:35
Speaker 1: come to see him? Do like I'm gonna watch some
• 27:36
Speaker 1: other man entertain my wife. Like but then it's you
• 27:40
Speaker 1: realize that your stuff is awesome.
• 27:42
Speaker 6: And it's first they think I'm pandering to their girlfriend,
• 27:46
Speaker 6: which isn't the case, and they realize very quickly that's
• 27:49
Speaker 6: not what I'm doing and what it will.
• 27:51
Speaker 5: Also, I had one instance I'll never forget.
• 27:54
Speaker 6: I'm in Nashville, I'm on stage, and I give dating advice,
• 27:58
Speaker 6: but like from my own perspective, I talk about dating
• 28:00
Speaker 6: on a podcast, and you know, and so this guy
• 28:04
Speaker 6: in the front is just miserable the whole time, and
• 28:06
Speaker 6: I say, and he's with his girlfriend.
• 28:08
Speaker 5: I go, I go, hey, man, what's the deal. What
• 28:11
Speaker 5: you know? You look like you ate a sandwich? What's happening?
• 28:15
Speaker 6: And he like level with me, like I can't break you,
• 28:17
Speaker 6: and he goes, I don't know, man, you just every
• 28:20
Speaker 6: time we get in a fight, my girlfriend I she's always,
• 28:23
Speaker 6: like Jared says, and you're like her teammate in our arguments.
• 28:29
  Speaker 6: And I was like, that's funny. I didn't think of
• 28:32
Speaker 6: it that way. And then I'll never forget. It was
• 28:34
Speaker 6: like a month later, I'm in an argument with my
• 28:38
Speaker 6: own girlfriend at the time and she literally amd argument.
• 28:41
Speaker 5: She goes, well, you said on the podcast. I was like,
• 28:44
Speaker 5: don't listen to me.
• 28:46
Speaker 6: Yeah, And I was like I never felt more connected
• 28:49
Speaker 6: to someone who hated me in my entire life.
• 28:57
Speaker 1: All Right, So you mentioned you're a Patriots fan, and
• 28:59
Speaker 1: that's not usually we have on guests, and it's like, sure,
• 29:02
Speaker 1: all right, this is a comedian, this is a celebrity,
• 29:04
Speaker 1: and they love this team and that's the football tie.
• 29:07
Speaker 1: Yours goes much deeper than that. You're wearing a Bears hat.
• 29:10
Speaker 1: Can you explain Jared Freed's connection to the Chicago Bears.
• 29:15
  Speaker 6: Well, I've so I'm a paint now I'm less of
• 29:19
Speaker 6: a Patriots fan. And this sounds bad to any like
• 29:22
Speaker 6: football fan. They're like, what in the world my brother is?
• 29:26
  Speaker 6: I don't know what to call I guess I would
• 29:28
Speaker 6: call him a coach for the Chicago Bears. He works,
• 29:31
Speaker 6: he's on the Bears staff. I don't want to speak
• 29:33
  Speaker 6: out of turn.
• 29:36
  Speaker 5: The meat, right.
• 29:37
Speaker 6: I don't know where he stands on the float chart,
• 29:40
Speaker 6: but he is. He's worked in the league. He worked
• 29:43
Speaker 6: at the league office, and then he went to Miami
• 29:44
Speaker 6: and now he's with the Bears. And you know, I
• 29:47
Speaker 6: I follow him where he goes. I got skin in
• 29:50
Speaker 6: the game, so to speak.
• 29:51
Speaker 5: You know, like I cheer for the Bears like they're
• 29:54
Speaker 5: my high school team.
• 29:55
Speaker 6: Now you know, it's family, you know, as my family
• 29:58
Speaker 6: always said, when you're here, your family.
• 30:00
Speaker 5: That was our saying growing up. So yeah, so like my.
• 30:05
Speaker 3: That's a good one. Like the six also, yeah it's good.
• 30:08
  Speaker 5: Yeah yeah.
• 30:09
Speaker 6: So I I so it's been this weird thing because
• 30:13
Speaker 6: I feel emotionally connected to football in a way that
• 30:16
Speaker 6: I felt it before, like you grew up a Patriots fan.
• 30:20
Speaker 6: But now it's like I'm cheering for play like you know,
• 30:24
Speaker 6: justin fields, like I'm cheering for him, like he's my brother,
• 30:27
Speaker 6: because my brother's you know, in the booth and you know,
• 30:30
Speaker 6: now you know his fiance she was you know, they
• 30:34
Speaker 6: met in Miami and she's she's in your industry.
• 30:36
  Speaker 5: She's a broadcaster too.
• 30:38
Speaker 6: She was on the NBC station in Miami and now
• 30:40
Speaker 6: she's moved to Chicago. Now we're all wearing you know,
• 30:43
Speaker 6: bear down. We're all wearing the you know, the blue
• 30:45
Speaker 6: and orange, so to speak. I don't even know if
• 30:47
Speaker 6: that's what they say.
• 30:48
Speaker 3: I don't even I think they do say bear down.
• 30:50
Speaker 1: I'm curious, like, is it known that his brother's a
• 30:55
Speaker 1: very famous stand up comedian.
• 30:57
Speaker 3: Or is that something he keeps quiet in NFL circles?
• 30:59
Speaker 5: You know, people people.
• 31:01
Speaker 6: Know he's you know, I've had people come out to
• 31:02
Speaker 6: shows because they know my brother, and like you know,
• 31:05
Speaker 6: they've can on me or vice avert, you know, it
• 31:09
Speaker 6: comes up and then like you know, also they're just
• 31:12
Speaker 6: comedy fans and they'll bring up a name, and Harry's
• 31:14
Speaker 6: met all these people, like my brother was like with
• 31:16
Speaker 6: me in open mics, Like my brother was.
• 31:18
Speaker 5: Like, you know, he was sleeping.
• 31:20
  Speaker 6: I mean, I don't think that I'm not speaking out
• 31:22
Speaker 6: of turn. He was sleeping on my couch telling me
• 31:28
Speaker 6: that he wants to be in the NFL. One day
• 31:31
Speaker 6: and it was like and he's getting his MBA and
• 31:35
Speaker 6: he's and I'm like, and I remember he was like
• 31:37
Speaker 6: a few months into my couch and I'm living in
• 31:40
Speaker 6: this like tiny New York City apartment.
• 31:42
Speaker 5: And there was a point where it's.
• 31:44
Speaker 6: Like he's and he's just trying to figure out his
• 31:47
Speaker 6: way and I'll never forget and I'm going to open mics.
• 31:50
Speaker 5: Well he's going and trying.
• 31:51
Speaker 6: To knock on doors and sending a resume resumes and
• 31:55
Speaker 6: it's just not working out for either of us to
• 31:58
Speaker 6: be in such close quarters. And I'll never forget it.
• 32:01
Speaker 6: There was one day where I like I kicked him out.
• 32:04
Speaker 6: I was like, listen, there's too many dreams in this apartment.
• 32:10
Speaker 5: You gotta get out of here.
• 32:12
Speaker 6: And you know, in his own version, you know, we're
• 32:16
Speaker 6: all the star of our own movie. You know, he
• 32:18
Speaker 6: goes off and he goes on his odyssey, and I
• 32:22
Speaker 6: continue my own odyssey and you know, we're both each
• 32:26
Speaker 6: other's like biggest fans and supporters, like and we get
• 32:29
Speaker 6: you know, we were there for each other so much
• 32:31
Speaker 6: and like talking each other through kind of the tough
• 32:35
Speaker 6: emotional times of trying to do something that no one
• 32:39
Speaker 6: can understand. You know, like that, you know this isn't
• 32:43
Speaker 6: this isn't the lawyer path, the finance path, the doctor path.
• 32:47
Speaker 5: You know this. You know I writing You're you know this.
• 32:52
Speaker 6: You know intimately you're writing blog posts and you know.
• 32:55
Speaker 6: And people say to you, you go home for Rosha
• 32:57
Speaker 6: Shanna and they're like, what are you doing?
• 33:00
Speaker 5: You say, you do what? Well?
• 33:02
Speaker 6: You got to meet I remember I went home to
• 33:04
Speaker 6: my grandmother's shiva call.
• 33:07
Speaker 5: Now we'll get real juwey. I'm at my.
• 33:09
Speaker 6: Grandmother's shiva call and people try to help you, but
• 33:12
  Speaker 6: it's almost demeaning.
• 33:14
  Speaker 5: I remember this.
• 33:15
Speaker 6: One woman was like, you should talk to my friend.
• 33:17
Speaker 6: They work at SNL. And I was like, and you
• 33:20
Speaker 6: have to say yes to everything. And I remember I
• 33:22
Speaker 6: get on the phone with this. She goes, I'll put
• 33:24
Speaker 6: you on the phone with their mom. I was like, no, no,
• 33:29
Speaker 6: and then she holds I'm at my grandmother's shiva call.
• 33:31
Speaker 6: My grandmother just died days before. The body's still warm.
• 33:35
Speaker 6: She holds this woman holds up her phone to me,
• 33:38
Speaker 6: and it's another woman and and she's going hello, and
• 33:41
Speaker 6: I go, Hi, I want to be a writer on
• 33:45
Speaker 6: SNL right right, Like what do I say?
• 33:47
Speaker 5: And then I remember the woman She goes.
• 33:49
Speaker 6: Well, my daughter went to Harvard and worked for the
• 33:55
  Speaker 6: Harvard Lampoon.
• 33:57
Speaker 5: Have you looked into that? And I was like, thank
• 34:00
Speaker 5: you very much, good to meet you.
• 34:04
Speaker 6: Hung up as soon as I could, and I was like,
• 34:06
Speaker 6: you know, and so that happens so much these enraging
• 34:10
Speaker 6: when someone's really there, really coming from the best place,
• 34:14
Speaker 6: and you can't say anything bad. You want to like
• 34:18
Speaker 6: scream from within. And I know you know that, and
• 34:21
Speaker 6: it was nice kind you know. Over the years, it's
• 34:24
Speaker 6: been really nice to have my brother going through his
• 34:27
Speaker 6: own thing, which is totally different than comedy, but a
• 34:29
Speaker 6: lot the same, just like you're similar in how different
• 34:33
Speaker 6: it is from everything else. And you know, now I
• 34:36
Speaker 6: go to a Bears, I'm going to opening week. I'm
• 34:38
Speaker 6: going to Packers Bears. Of course I want to see
• 34:42
Speaker 6: I go sit in the family section. I'm screaming at
• 34:45
Speaker 6: the team. You know, I remember one one time. I
• 34:47
Speaker 6: was like and then I like to you know, I
• 34:50
Speaker 6: get drunk. I have a bunch of beers and Vodkas,
• 34:53
Speaker 6: and then I like, I remember I was at the
• 34:55
Speaker 6: Miami game once and I and I realized I was
• 34:57
Speaker 6: sitting behind the offensive coordinator's dad.
• 35:00
Speaker 5: Like you start to realize who you're sitting around.
• 35:02
Speaker 3: Now you're questioning the calls.
• 35:04
Speaker 6: And well, then I did it by I did it
• 35:06
  Speaker 6: as a joke, like I'm a little drunk, I'm like,
• 35:08
Speaker 6: I gotta put this guy. I go, every player go,
• 35:11
Speaker 6: who is calling these plays?
• 35:14
Speaker 5: And you just see the dad like kind of turn around.
• 35:17
Speaker 6: And then when he finally got mad enough to turn
• 35:19
Speaker 6: around fully, I just made eye contract and I started
• 35:22
  Speaker 6: like grab.
• 35:22
Speaker 5: His shoulder and start yeah, and he starts laughing.
• 35:26
Speaker 6: You know, It's like it's like that where it's like
• 35:28
Speaker 6: I get to be his fan and I get to
• 35:30
Speaker 6: sit in the back. But you know, and also like
• 35:33
Speaker 6: when you have a coach as a brother, my brother
• 35:36
Speaker 6: did me the biggest favor.
• 35:38
  Speaker 5: In the world.
• 35:39
Speaker 6: He he went he would come to my shows and
• 35:42
Speaker 6: I remember I'd come off stage, and criticism is very
• 35:48
  Speaker 6: difficult to take.
• 35:50
Speaker 5: I think it's very hard to give you have to
• 35:52
  Speaker 5: be constructive.
• 35:53
Speaker 6: You have to see where the person is trying to
• 35:55
Speaker 6: go and how they're trying to You have to be
• 35:58
Speaker 6: And I came off stage and he would go, I
• 36:00
Speaker 6: got like ten notes and it would be like and
• 36:04
Speaker 6: in the notes it would be like, loved this. Energy
• 36:07
Speaker 6: good this and energy they are good. You were a
• 36:10
Speaker 6: little fast on that. I didn't get what you were saying.
• 36:12
Speaker 6: It was like this like and I was like, the
• 36:14
Speaker 6: way he gave it to me, I was like, this
• 36:16
  Speaker 6: is so valuable.
• 36:17
Speaker 5: It was so helped.
• 36:17
Speaker 1: He's a professional coach, and you know, it's amazing.
• 36:21
Speaker 3: That's how he talks to players.
• 36:22
Speaker 6: You guys don't have that, right, No, no, none of
• 36:25
Speaker 6: us have that. And I and then I remember Michelle
• 36:28
Speaker 6: Wolf and I are friends, and it was a big
• 36:31
Speaker 6: opportunity to open for Michelle.
• 36:32
Speaker 5: She had just done the White House Correspondence.
• 36:34
Speaker 2: I was after the White House Correspondence. Yeah, that's huge.
• 36:36
  Speaker 5: Yeah.
• 36:36
Speaker 6: And I go and start opening for her, and I
• 36:38
Speaker 6: remember she came off stage and I was like, well,
• 36:40
  Speaker 6: I like it.
• 36:41
Speaker 5: When it's done for me, I'm sure she'll like it and.
• 36:45
Speaker 6: Loved it lovely, Like no one likes writing more than Michelle.
• 36:49
Speaker 6: So and we really connected over that, and you know
• 36:54
Speaker 6: that was us becoming closer friends and creating a bond
• 36:56
Speaker 6: over comedy, and like, you know, and I would I
• 36:59
Speaker 6: don't wouldn't have known how to do that or to.
• 37:02
Speaker 5: Do that without my brother. So it's like it all translates.
• 37:06
Speaker 1: So for me, like when I was growing up, it
• 37:08
Speaker 1: was you know, like, wow, look at Dick Shap what
• 37:11
Speaker 1: he gets to do. Look at Roy Firestone interviewing people,
• 37:14
Speaker 1: or oh my god, a Madrashott is on the court
• 37:16
  Speaker 1: interviewing players.
• 37:17
  Speaker 2: Can you imagine?
• 37:18
Speaker 3: Who were those guys for.
• 37:19
  Speaker 2: You in comedy?
• 37:20
Speaker 1: And was that really a thing with you in comedy?
• 37:22
Speaker 1: Were you one of these snl nerds who would sit
• 37:23
Speaker 1: home and watch the tape of Wayne's World over and
• 37:25
Speaker 1: over again, or like, was this something where you came
• 37:27
Speaker 1: at it from a different angle and it wasn't like
• 37:29
Speaker 1: you worshiped comedy as a kid.
• 37:31
Speaker 6: Never never liked the big comedy nerd. I liked making
• 37:36
Speaker 6: my friends laugh. I liked writing on email to my
• 37:39
Speaker 6: group of friends and ball busting.
• 37:42
Speaker 2: And having the message board.
• 37:44
Speaker 6: Oh absolutely, Then when having one person go off email
• 37:47
Speaker 6: to email, you individually to be like, oh my god,
• 37:50
Speaker 6: I'm dying at my desk. That's the that would get
• 37:53
Speaker 6: me off. And then the one special I really loved,
• 37:57
Speaker 6: and it was on a thousand times, and I would say,
• 38:00
  Speaker 6: I I emulate this comic.
• 38:03
Speaker 1: Oh, Kevin James was saying premium Blend go which one.
• 38:08
Speaker 5: No, Kevin James sweat the small stuff.
• 38:10
Speaker 6: It's on YouTube. It's still most of the bits still
• 38:13
Speaker 6: work today. I've never gotten to meet him. But like
• 38:16
Speaker 6: his physicality, his you know, his bigness, his his.
• 38:20
Speaker 5: Light on his feet. You know, I really love that.
• 38:23
Speaker 6: And also the relatability of like I just could feel
• 38:27
Speaker 6: everything he was talking about. So that was the one
• 38:29
Speaker 6: special I watched a thousand times, but never I was
• 38:32
Speaker 6: never that guy who was like George Carlin I hugged
• 38:34
  Speaker 6: his book.
• 38:35
Speaker 5: You know I didn't do that.
• 38:36
Speaker 1: Yeah, all right, So this thing hits Netflix take us
• 38:41
Speaker 1: really brievous. So you said, thirteen years of doing stand
• 38:45
Speaker 1: up comedy, and then like this is not to make
• 38:48
Speaker 1: it overally dramatic, this is the biggest moment so far
• 38:50
  Speaker 1: for the career.
• 38:51
Speaker 3: Is this Like what that means?
• 38:52
Speaker 1: I don't know the significance of a Netflix special, knowing
• 38:56
Speaker 1: what it's done for so many others.
• 38:57
Speaker 3: But like, is this this could be your moment.
• 39:00
Speaker 6: It's hard to explain because it came out at three
• 39:02
Speaker 6: thirty three in the morning.
• 39:04
Speaker 5: I woke up to like some very nice messages.
• 39:07
Speaker 6: I hope it just you know, brings more people to
• 39:10
Speaker 6: what I do, you know, like and it is the
• 39:12
Speaker 6: biggest moment of my life. It is like the platform
• 39:17
Speaker 6: is just so big and I want like, you know,
• 39:20
Speaker 6: you've seen what it's done for other people. I have
• 39:22
Speaker 6: some friends that like have had Netflix specials and it's
• 39:25
Speaker 6: made it so they could tour. Like I just want
• 39:27
Speaker 6: to be able to go and do great shows. And
• 39:30
Speaker 6: it's it's really as simple and hokey and cheesy as that.
• 39:33
Speaker 6: Like again, the prize is doing stand up. I get
• 39:37
Speaker 6: to do it. I get to travel the country. I
• 39:39
Speaker 6: love putting together the bits and like it. It really
• 39:44
Speaker 6: does sound cheesy, but this is like if I can
• 39:47
Speaker 6: just and if I can make a living doing that,
• 39:49
Speaker 6: Like who you know, as as the hardballs would say,
• 39:53
Speaker 6: who has it better than us? You know, like it's
• 39:56
Speaker 6: uh so, I I just and when people connect with
• 39:59
Speaker 6: what I'm saying and they come up to me with
• 40:02
Speaker 6: their you know, with their families or their boyfriend or girlfriend,
• 40:05
Speaker 6: whatever it might be, and be like, wow, we just
• 40:07
Speaker 6: died laughing, like it's.
• 40:09
Speaker 5: That's the greatest pleasure.
• 40:11
Speaker 6: You know, Like if someone says to me like I
• 40:14
Speaker 6: literally peed my pants, I'm like, that is like all
• 40:17
  Speaker 6: I I can ask for.
• 40:18
Speaker 1: You know, thirty seven in single is the special? You
• 40:22
Speaker 1: obviously are thirty seven in single. Uh, I'm not gonna
• 40:25
Speaker 1: give it away, but you're opening bit on just you're
• 40:28
Speaker 1: on these apps so often that sometimes eventually you start
• 40:31
Speaker 1: just dismissing women because of their names.
• 40:33
Speaker 6: And it's like you don't even look at their pictures,
• 40:35
Speaker 6: just don't want to with that name with women men
• 40:40
Speaker 6: that and that's like the most relatable thing. It doesn't
• 40:42
Speaker 6: matter who you are, you get bogged down. And that's
• 40:46
Speaker 6: like the thing about it that I really like connect
• 40:48
Speaker 6: with people on like you know, and sometimes marry people
• 40:52
  Speaker 6: don't understand. It's like I don't think I'm anybody. I
• 40:55
Speaker 6: don't think I deserve anything. You know, you're just going, oh,
• 40:59
  Speaker 6: I'm tired. I want to be I think, like I've
• 41:02
Speaker 6: been talking a lot lately about like you just want
• 41:05
Speaker 6: to be six months in on night one, you know,
• 41:08
Speaker 6: like I don't to that point, just get me to
• 41:11
Speaker 6: six months in right away.
• 41:12
Speaker 5: Let's get past the ooh, you know your parents are
• 41:16
  Speaker 5: from where.
• 41:17
Speaker 6: It's like no, no, no, tell me why you hate your parents,
• 41:21
Speaker 6: but you love them because they pay yourself on bill
• 41:23
Speaker 6: like you know, like get me there, you know, And.
• 41:26
Speaker 1: New York City is ripe for material. I imagine you
• 41:29
Speaker 1: choose to live here. You can live anywhere if you
• 41:31
  Speaker 1: want it.
• 41:31
  Speaker 5: I mean I love New York. I mean I live
• 41:33
Speaker 5: a very New York life, you know.
• 41:35
Speaker 6: But again, the seller's here, like the seller is like
• 41:39
Speaker 6: such a like if anyone's out there and you go
• 41:41
Speaker 6: to a show, go to you go to New York
• 41:43
Speaker 6: go to a New York City comedy seller show, go.
• 41:46
Speaker 5: To any lineup, any lineup.
• 41:47
Speaker 6: Like the other thing is like I love being a
• 41:50
Speaker 6: the world that I'm in. I like telling people go
• 41:53
Speaker 6: to just go to the show, Like I have friends,
• 41:55
Speaker 6: what show are you on?
• 41:56
Speaker 5: Are you there tonight? I go just go to any
• 41:58
Speaker 5: just go to any show, you know.
• 42:00
Speaker 6: If i'm if I'm to give like insider advice, McDougall,
• 42:03
Speaker 6: street room is the one you want to go to.
• 42:06
Speaker 6: Second would be Village Underground, Third would be Fat Black Lounge.
• 42:09
Speaker 5: Fourth would be Fat black Bar. If you want insider tip.
• 42:12
Speaker 6: If it shows is sold out, there's a standby line
• 42:16
Speaker 6: a half hour before every show and it's not sold out.
• 42:19
Speaker 6: It's a reservation system, so no one's paid for tickets
• 42:22
Speaker 6: ahead of time, so a lot of people don't show,
• 42:25
Speaker 6: So you're gonna go to a show that night. I'm
• 42:28
Speaker 6: telling you it is the biggest win. If you're like
• 42:30
Speaker 6: planning a date night with your wife or girlfriend, you're
• 42:33
Speaker 6: going to New York City, you want to win, you
• 42:36
Speaker 6: go to the commie seller. Guaranteed win. That's why you
• 42:39
Speaker 6: know why all the reservations are gone. All the concierges
• 42:43
Speaker 6: at the hotels. At the hotels take them up because
• 42:46
Speaker 6: what better than a free ticket that someone could take
• 42:50
Speaker 6: or leave. That the concierge wins and there's no loss potential.
• 42:55
  Speaker 3: Yep.
• 42:56
Speaker 1: We were talking earlier and I said, you've got like
• 42:57
Speaker 1: a Seinfeld like ish for this generation, where it's like
• 43:01
Speaker 1: that is funny, it's observational, it's for the most part clean.
• 43:04
Speaker 1: Of course, your language, and you do talk about sex
• 43:06
Speaker 1: and stuff, but you're not going down, you know, anywhere.
• 43:08
  Speaker 3: It's seinfeld Ish.
• 43:10
Speaker 1: That might be very basic for me to say that
• 43:12
Speaker 1: knowing there's a I don't think have you met Jerry Seinfeld?
• 43:17
Speaker 6: So I didn't tell you this story, did I know?
• 43:20
Speaker 6: So I went on stage at Gotham. Seinfeld goes to Gotham.
• 43:24
Speaker 6: That's where he works out material.
• 43:26
Speaker 1: Is he there often or is he one of those
• 43:27
Speaker 1: guys that'll pop in once a year or is he
• 43:29
  Speaker 1: like all.
• 43:30
Speaker 6: No, he I I think you know he loves you
• 43:33
Speaker 6: can tell he loves stand up. He kind of there's
• 43:36
Speaker 6: this level of comedian like Seinfeld where they like treat
• 43:39
Speaker 6: it like golf, like they like to play every day,
• 43:42
Speaker 6: you know, like they like to like get out there sometimes,
• 43:44
Speaker 6: or like, you know, it does seem like it's golf
• 43:46
Speaker 6: to him, So he'll So I get to the Gotham
• 43:49
Speaker 6: Comedy Club and they're like, hey, Jared, you're gonna go
• 43:52
Speaker 6: on stage first, and then Jerry's coming and I'm like
• 43:55
Speaker 6: who They're like, Jerry Seinfeld.
• 43:57
Speaker 5: I'm like, oh, that Jerry.
• 44:00
Speaker 6: So then they're like he could show up in five minutes,
• 44:03
Speaker 6: earn fifteen minutes, we don't know. Now we're gonna turn
• 44:06
Speaker 6: the light on, which means you have two minutes left
• 44:09
Speaker 6: when you see the light going, get off stage because
• 44:12
Speaker 6: we don't they don't want Jerry waiting.
• 44:15
Speaker 5: No, he ain't waiting.
• 44:17
Speaker 6: So I and five and fifteen two different numbers when
• 44:20
Speaker 6: it comes to a comedian.
• 44:21
Speaker 5: I want to end right, I want to end well.
• 44:24
Speaker 6: I want Seinfeld to like me, you know, like that
• 44:26
Speaker 6: type of thing. So I'm at Gotham. I'm on stage.
• 44:29
Speaker 6: It's five minutes in and then he's so famous that
• 44:32
Speaker 6: you can see his outline and you know who he is, right.
• 44:37
Speaker 5: Just a silhouette and you know who he is.
• 44:39
Speaker 6: I see his silhouette, but the light isn't on, so
• 44:42
Speaker 6: I'm like, you know, Jay Train gonna cook. So I
• 44:47
Speaker 6: so I keep going and I go into like some
• 44:49
Speaker 6: material that I would think like he might like. And
• 44:52
Speaker 6: the joke's on the special. You can see it on
• 44:55
Speaker 6: the special, the joke that. So I come off stage
• 44:58
Speaker 6: and I see the light going. I come off stage
• 45:02
Speaker 6: and I see him. He goes love the fat stuff,
• 45:05
Speaker 6: and I'm like, thank you, he just love the fat stuff.
• 45:10
Speaker 6: And he goes, he goes, he goes Justin's Peanut butter.
• 45:14
Speaker 6: Never would have thought, oh, he's like that's great. He
• 45:17
Speaker 6: goes Justin's Peanut butter. He kept repeating, and I go,
• 45:19
Speaker 6: you know, like you almost bow to him.
• 45:21
Speaker 5: I'm like, thank you, thank you. You know you got
• 45:23
  Speaker 5: you know.
• 45:25
Speaker 1: The Pez Dispenser or Junior Mens, and like there's all
• 45:27
Speaker 1: these references and so like when he gives you a
• 45:29
Speaker 1: brand name that you referenced and he's like, well done.
• 45:32
Speaker 3: That's got to be.
• 45:32
Speaker 5: Like the couple of it the best comment in the world.
• 45:34
Speaker 6: And I had my recorder running in my back pocket
• 45:37
Speaker 6: when this happened, so I literally have it on tape
• 45:40
Speaker 6: and you can and again, just like the silhouette, You're
• 45:42
Speaker 6: like that's his voice. Like it's like he's so famous.
• 45:45
Speaker 6: And I send it to my parents, you know, I
• 45:47
Speaker 6: like edited it to like send to my parents, and
• 45:50
Speaker 6: then they ruined it.
• 45:51
Speaker 5: By going, what who is this? What's going on? They
• 45:54
Speaker 5: just all that annoying questions.
• 45:57

• 46:54
