- 0:00Hello everyone , and welcome back to the Spy Trader podcast .
- 0:04I am your host , Barnaby Bull , coming to you bright and early !
- 0:08It is 6 am on Sunday , October 11th , 2026 , here in the Pacific time zone .
- 0:14I hope you have your coffee ready because we have quite a week ahead of us .
- 0:18We generate these updates every few hours to keep you on top of the markets , and today we are looking at the critical week of October 12th through the 16th .
- 0:28The market is sitting in a precarious position right now .
- 0:31While the S&P 500 , which we follow via the SPY , and the Nasdaq100 , or QQQ , recently touched record highs , they are running into some stiff resistance .
- 0:44The 10year Treasury yield has surged to 5.36 percent , which is the highest it has been in twentyfour years .
- 0:51This makes borrowing expensive and puts pressure on growth stocks .
- 0:56We also have the main events of the week starting Wednesday with the Consumer Price Index , followed by the Producer Price Index on Thursday .
- 1:04If inflation comes in hotter than the 3.7 percent forecast , it might cement another Federal Reserve rate hike in December .
- 1:13Plus , crude oil has breached 100 dollars per barrel due to Middle East tensions .
- 1:20While that fuels the Energy Select Sector SPDR , or XLE , it acts like a tax on all of us , potentially dampening the Retail Sales data coming out this Thursday .
- 1:31We will also be listening to Fed Chair Kevin Warsh and other governors speaking from the IMF meetings in Bangkok for any shifts in their restrictive stance .
- 1:41This week also marks the start of a pivotal earnings season , beginning with the financials .
- 1:47JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs report on Tuesday , followed by Bank of America and Morgan Stanley on Wednesday .
- 1:55The Financial Select Sector SPDR , or XLF , is a major focus here .
- 2:01Banks have benefited from higher rates , but we need to watch for comments on credit loss reserves and the impact of the 2 trillion dollar fiscal deficit .
- 2:10Over in technology , stocks are under pressure from rising yields and a cooling of the AI hype .
- 2:17Recent reports about OpenAI's revenue growth have sparked concerns about the actual return on investment for all this AI spending .
- 2:26We will be watching Taiwan Semiconductor and ASML reports this week to see if the AI rally has more legs or if a consolidation is overdue .
- 2:36If you are looking for stability , healthcare might be the place to hide .
- 2:40UnitedHealth Group and Johnson and Johnson report Tuesday .
- 2:45The Health Care Select Sector SPDR , or XLV , often outperforms when interest rates are rising and the economy feels uncertain .
- 2:55For my specific recommendations this week , I suggest looking at the Vanguard Total Stock Market ETF , or VTI , for broad diversification .
- 3:05This helps mitigate risks since smallcap stocks are currently lagging .
- 3:10For income , stay with the Financial Select Sector SPDR , or XLF , specifically focusing on JPMorgan for its dominant position .
- 3:19To protect yourself against the inflation data dump , the Health Care Select Sector SPDR , or XLV , is a great defensive anchor .
- 3:27If you want a tactical play , keep an eye on the iShares 20 plus Year Treasury Bond ETF , or TLT ; if inflation is cooler than expected , we could see a massive rally there .
- 3:40Lastly , SPDR Gold Shares , or GLD , remains a smart hedge against both geopolitical risks and persistent inflation .
- 3:49My strategy for the week is simple : trim your highvaluation tech positions in the QQQ before Wednesday to lock in gains .
- 3:57Watch the JPMorgan earnings on Tuesday morning ; if they show a strong consumer , it is bullish for the SPY in the short term .
- 4:06Finally , use any dip in Taiwan Semiconductor after their earnings as a longterm entry point , provided their guidance on AI remains strong .
- 4:16We are currently cautiously bullish , but this week you should favor quality over growth .
- 4:22Thanks for listening , and I will see you in a few hours for our next update !
