- 0:00Happy Saturday morning, everybody.
- 0:05Herman, what the heck you doing, buddy?
- 0:12I don't know why I said that. Just had to say it all right
- 0:17last night, Friday night, Tri-City Speedway in Granite
- 0:22City, IL. It was a good night, but it had
- 0:26a weird vibe. Now this this race track is run
- 0:32by Kevin and Tammy Gundaker and they are wonderful people.
- 0:36I truly love them. They're great people, but this
- 0:39race track has a dark cloud over it.
- 0:44I told Roy last night who helps me, I said Roy.
- 0:48I said we need to get a father to come over and bless Tri-City
- 0:54Speedway. No rain.
- 1:00But out of nowhere comes this dark cloud and like for 5
- 1:05minutes just start sprinkling. Just a little bit of a delay.
- 1:10Then it's like, OK, we're going to race now.
- 1:13In between here, we're keeping the car loaded.
- 1:15We're unloading a little bit because if you know anything
- 1:18about dirt racing, you don't want to be caught with your car
- 1:22outside when a big rain comes. It becomes like Porky the pig.
- 1:29Let's let's load the car up in the sloppy mud.
- 1:32Let me get my boots on. I'll tell you what, racing on
- 1:39dirt is awesome until it rains. Then like brother Rusty says,
- 1:43it's like, what the are you guys doing?
- 1:47Oh yeah, you think you're cool until you stomping around mud
- 1:51loading your up and you get home and you're just wiped out.
- 1:55Look like an old pig, pig pen. So I'm kind of unloaded, loaded
- 1:59and all of a sudden, literally 10 seconds, not even 10 seconds,
- 2:06maybe 8 seconds worth of just catastrophic downpour and it
- 2:12stops. Pop up shower.
- 2:15Now listen to this Tri-City Speedway, Granite City, IL.
- 2:21Now we're in the middle of July. They've only raced 2 times this
- 2:25year. They have been rained out every
- 2:28single Friday night. It's like, is this a joke?
- 2:33No, no, it's not a joke. It's it's true.
- 2:35It's real. It really is raining out every
- 2:38Friday night at Granite. We went over there like 2-3
- 2:42weeks ago for a summer national race.
- 2:45Sunny 100° everywhere and I mean just pouring a black cloud right
- 2:51over the racetrack. It 2 to 3 inches of rain in like
- 2:5530 minutes. So we finally got it going last
- 3:00night and we started our front row outside in our heat.
- 3:05We want our heat. So when you win the heat, what
- 3:09that does is that that puts you on, you know, front row of the
- 3:13feature. The heat races are where it's
- 3:15at. So when you line up on the front
- 3:18row with your other competitor and you're not running, that
- 3:21really helps. So we lined it up on the on the
- 3:24pole for the feature next to my buddy Ryan Hamilton.
- 3:29We took the lead, we LED half the race and some son of a bitch
- 3:36started getting on my inside. I'm like, I'm running pretty
- 3:39good. Who is this?
- 3:40Sure enough, our eight time champion, Mike Harrison.
- 3:48He's so good. He he is so good.
- 3:52He'd come by me. Typical Mike just ripping the
- 3:58lip like like a 18 year old kid and he was just better than me.
- 4:06He he drives better than me and he there's a reason he's an 8
- 4:09time UMP dirt car champion. But but he had, he had to pass
- 4:16other cars too because he started like next to last.
- 4:19So he had to pass everybody else until he got to me.
- 4:23It was it was a reminder by Mike Harrison.
- 4:28Hey faces, I've been giving you all a break lately.
- 4:32I just came and just a little reminder.
- 4:35Mike Harrison has been running late models, driving for some
- 4:40other people, and he's been working on a new car design.
- 4:45And so congratulations to Mike. I never doubted you in a million
- 4:51years. Actually.
- 4:52I'm a big fan of his and I help Mike every once in a while with
- 4:56some things. And you, you recognize talent.
- 5:01He's damn good. So we run 2nd and it was a good
- 5:05run for us. OK, out of nowhere over the last
- 5:09couple days on the social media site X, there's been a couple
- 5:16people concerned about me. Doing everything by myself made
- 5:23me happy. So it it's kind of like Darryl
- 5:27Walter once said to me, I'm worried about you.
- 5:32Well, I thought I'd turn it around and just say it right
- 5:35back to him. I said, well, Darryl, I'm very
- 5:38happy you're worried about me. He's like, you know, when people
- 5:43say I'm worried about you, you can take that two ways.
- 5:48You know, I'm really worried about you.
- 5:51They're either really worried about you or they're being a
- 5:54smart ass. So people say to me, you know,
- 6:00I'm really worried about you. I don't want you to wear
- 6:02yourself out. You're where's all your help and
- 6:07you know part of me wants to go well, nobody likes me, everybody
- 6:10hates me and you know what I'm going to eat some mother worms.
- 6:18So the real story why nobody helps me anymore.
- 6:23I don't want no fucking help. I don't want no help.
- 6:27And here's why. When somebody comes and they say
- 6:33they going to help you, all it takes is for them to think
- 6:39they're helping and they do something wrong.
- 6:43And I've had people help me before.
- 6:45I had, I don't know what I was doing, but years ago, I don't
- 6:47know why I was thinking wrong. I was busy and I said, yeah,
- 6:51bolt the right front shock on. Well, I had the shock on.
- 6:55Course they forgot to tighten the bolt.
- 6:58I mean, here it was a mechanical inclined person, but I guess
- 7:01somebody got the talking to him. I go on the racetrack, I don't
- 7:04get a little bit through the race and the shock falls off.
- 7:10It's easier. I'm organized, it's easier for
- 7:12me. Just do everything myself.
- 7:14Because then when you train the people, then they start, they
- 7:17start getting in with you. And that's like you pay for my
- 7:21pit pass, you give me a little money, you buy all my food.
- 7:26These people that want to help you, it's their way of getting
- 7:30in with you. Then all of a sudden you become
- 7:31Michael Jackson. Now you get this entourage that
- 7:35you got to pay for. And I just don't like help
- 7:38because they're a pain in the ass.
- 7:40It's it's they're in the way now.
- 7:42The other real story, the real reason nobody helps me anymore.
- 7:48I'm 62 years old. I think Mike Harrison's the
- 7:53second oldest driver at 50. I'm 12 years older than anybody
- 7:58I'm racing against. So what's that tell you?
- 8:03Everybody that did help me, like Billy Smith?
- 8:08Billy's got bad arthritis. He's roughed up.
- 8:12I love Billy Smith, but Billy can hardly take care of his own
- 8:16son right now at the racetrack. I love Billy Don Schaumburg, Big
- 8:24Don. His wife died of Alzheimer's
- 8:27dementia. Don's almost 80 now.
- 8:32Tommy Boyd, Tommy down in Farmington, Tommy and Blake
- 8:37Hudson, they all had kids. Now they're they're just, they
- 8:42just fell right into that old, you know, I'm a dad.
- 8:46I got to take care of my kids. So it's pretty simple.
- 8:52This help outgrows you. Help outgrows you.
- 8:57It really does. They get older and they're like,
- 9:00I ain't going to that old dirt tracks, nasty dust flying in
- 9:03there. Get home at 1:00 and 2:00 in the
- 9:05morning. You even see it with Mike
- 9:07Harrison. Now, I'm sure Mike's not going
- 9:09to mind me saying this, but like, you know, Brett, his son,
- 9:16he, he's got a girl. He's she's pregnant.
- 9:19Mike's other son, you know, he's married, got a kid.
- 9:22All of a sudden they all quit. They quit helping Mike Harrison
- 9:25too. Everybody just runs out of help.
- 9:30Everybody grows up. Dirt racing is a young man's
- 9:34game. And not just is it a young man
- 9:38game, you need like vagabonds to help you.
- 9:41It's a dirty sport. Sport.
- 9:44It's it's, it's late at night. You're dirty, you're nasty,
- 9:47you're shitty. You got to love it.
- 9:50You got to love dirt racing. And I love it.
- 9:54I love it. I really love it.
- 9:56So hopefully told you what happened last night and told you
- 10:02why don't look for help. They just up or you spend your
- 10:06whole night telling them how to do it.
- 10:08And then I told you, you know, I mean these dirt lame all racers,
- 10:11they can't find any help either. And when you find them, they
- 10:14bitch and Mona, you know all that dirt racing is for a
- 10:19different breed of people, different breed of people.
- 10:23All right, everybody have a great Saturday.
