- 0:00Speaker 1: Hey, what's up everybody. Thanks for checking out this Disgraceland
- 0:03Speaker 1: bonus episode, this after party episode. We have a ton
- 0:07Speaker 1: of content in the feed for you this month. We
- 0:10Speaker 1: just came to the close of October and we just
- 0:13Speaker 1: wrapped our reincarnated Best Halloween episodes with episodes on The
- 0:17Speaker 1: Misfits in Big Lurch over the bad Lands Feed. We're
- 0:21Speaker 1: dropping an episode on the movie The Misfits. Okay, not
- 0:25Speaker 1: the Glenn danzig Man, the movie The Misfits with Merril Monroe,
- 0:28Speaker 1: so you can check that out as well. All right,
- 0:30Speaker 1: let's get in to the after party. Hey, discos, need
- 0:36Speaker 1: a little more Disgraceland in your life, just to touch
- 0:39Speaker 1: to get you through. Yeah, me too. This is the podcast.
- 0:43Speaker 1: It comes after the podcast. Welcome to Disgraceland the after Party.
- 1:01Speaker 1: Welcome to the disgracelaand bonus episode. A little thing we
- 1:04Speaker 1: like to call the after party. This is the show
- 1:07Speaker 1: after the show, the party after the party, the bridge
- 1:11Speaker 1: to get you from one full episode of Disgraceland to
- 1:13Speaker 1: the other. The backyard did get into the dirt on
- 1:15Speaker 1: this episode. We are talking about, among other things, the Misfits,
- 1:21Speaker 1: the band the Misfits, and the Misfits the movie The Misfits,
- 1:25Speaker 1: as well as your voicemails, text, dms and more, and
- 1:27Speaker 1: as always, a whole lot of Rosie. All right, discos,
- 1:31Speaker 1: let's get into it. Halloween twenty twenty three. It's in
- 1:46Speaker 1: the books, and the creeps have returned to their crips,
- 1:49Speaker 1: as they say, the ghosts, all those ghouls they disappeared,
- 1:53Speaker 1: back into their old haunts. I was trying to explain
- 1:55Speaker 1: to my son's nine year old friend last night what
- 1:57Speaker 1: a ghoul was, and I realized, you know what, perhaps
- 2:01Speaker 1: I'm not the storyteller I think I am, because I
- 2:04Speaker 1: wasn't making any progress. But you know what, I am
- 2:07Speaker 1: making progress on today my candy hangover. I kept it tight.
- 2:10Speaker 1: I didn't go overboard last night. Proud of myself. How'd
- 2:13Speaker 1: you guys do? Listen here in Disgraceland. You know, Halloween
- 2:18Speaker 1: may may be over, but the dead remain undead, as
- 2:22Speaker 1: you likely saw in your feed this week, we just
- 2:24Speaker 1: wrapped up ten days of the ten Scariest Halloween episodes
- 2:27Speaker 1: with two of my favorite episodes we've ever done in Disgraceland,
- 2:31Speaker 1: one on horror core rapper Big Lurch and also another
- 2:35Speaker 1: on one of my favorite bands of all time the Misfits.
- 2:39Speaker 1: As you know, if you've listened to that episode or
- 2:41Speaker 1: you've heard me talk before, I love the Misfits. They
- 2:44Speaker 1: had a huge impact on me as a kid. This
- 2:48Speaker 1: episode that we did on the Misfits truly unique in
- 2:50Speaker 1: the world of Disgraceland. Forgive me if you've heard this before,
- 2:53Speaker 1: because I've told this story, but I don't care. I'm
- 2:55Speaker 1: going to tell it again for the new listeners out there,
- 2:57Speaker 1: especially those who are who are here because of the
- 2:59Speaker 1: Halloween vibes. I found out, I don't know, four years
- 3:04Speaker 1: ago or so, that Night of the Living Dead, the
- 3:06Speaker 1: classic horror movie, the George rom Meiro horror movie. I
- 3:09Speaker 1: found out the Night of the Living Dead was public domain.
- 3:13Speaker 1: The sixty nineteen sixty eight classic film, for whatever reason,
- 3:17Speaker 1: is in the public domain. And why it is, I
- 3:20Speaker 1: don't know. But basically what that means is anyone can
- 3:23Speaker 1: take whatever they want from that movie and do whatever
- 3:26Speaker 1: they want with it. So, upon hearing that and researching
- 3:32Speaker 1: the Misfits right around the same time, because I knew
- 3:34Speaker 1: I was going to write an episode on them, came
- 3:36Speaker 1: across the fact obviously that Glenn Danzig, singer of the
- 3:40Speaker 1: Misfits was hugely influenced by the film Night of the
- 3:43Speaker 1: Living Dead, So I thought, why don't I try to
- 3:46Speaker 1: get the crack engineers and musicians at Double Elvis to
- 3:50Speaker 1: rip the soundtrack, the sound of that movie, the score
- 3:56Speaker 1: of Night of the Living Dead. Why don't I get
- 3:57Speaker 1: them to try to rip that, and then I'll use
- 4:01Speaker 1: those files that music to score our disgrace in episode.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So that's exactly what we did, and we actually took
- 4:06Speaker 1: it a step further and doing so, I became so
- 4:08Speaker 1: inspired by Night of the Living Dead that I actually
- 4:11Speaker 1: went in this totally different direction with the Misfits episode,
- 4:14Speaker 1: which was supposed to be an episode that was built
- 4:16Speaker 1: largely around the arrest of the band in that graveyard
- 4:20Speaker 1: down in Louisiana, New Orleans, back from the early days
- 4:23Speaker 1: of the Misfits, but in being inspired by Night of
- 4:26Speaker 1: the Living Dead, I decided to take a more satirical
- 4:30Speaker 1: approach and really try to put the character of Glenn
- 4:34Speaker 1: and Danzig into the Night of the Living Dead world
- 4:38Speaker 1: and use sort of the zombies as a parable. And
- 4:41Speaker 1: the telling of that story is a parable for the
- 4:43Speaker 1: telling of the story of Glenn Danzig and the alienation
- 4:45Speaker 1: that he felt. So that was the Misfits episode. If
- 4:49Speaker 1: you have not heard it, please check it out. The
- 4:53Speaker 1: Misfits are part of what made me as a creator,
- 4:56Speaker 1: as not only a writer, but a musician and just
- 4:59Speaker 1: a kid with the year trying to find his way
- 5:01Speaker 1: early on, trying to figure out who he was and
- 5:04Speaker 1: what he wanted to do and how he was going
- 5:06Speaker 1: to direct his anger. And the Misfits had a lot
- 5:08Speaker 1: to do with that. Also, you know the Misfits, the
- 5:11Speaker 1: band Glenn Danzig took the name from the movie The Misfits,
- 5:15Speaker 1: the Marilyn Monroe movie, because Danzig was obsessed with Marilyn
- 5:18Speaker 1: Monroe and we decided, you know, we knew a little
- 5:21Speaker 1: bit about that movie. I love that movie. The movie's great.
- 5:24Speaker 1: I loved it even before I really knew it had
- 5:26Speaker 1: anything to do with Danzig. It's Marilyn Monroe's last performance
- 5:31Speaker 1: before she died. It's a John Houston movie. It's written
- 5:34Speaker 1: by Marilyn Monroe's who was soon to be her ex
- 5:38Speaker 1: husband at the time, Arthur Miller, and stars Clark Gable
- 5:41Speaker 1: along with Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Cliff. It's just a great, great,
- 5:45Speaker 1: great film. But the lore around that film is something else.
- 5:50Speaker 2: Man.
- 5:50Speaker 1: There was a lot of drama that happened around the
- 5:52Speaker 1: making of The Misfits, and a lot of that I
- 5:54Speaker 1: uncovered when I was researching the Marilyn Monroe pilot episodes
- 5:59Speaker 1: for Bad Life. So you know, I don't know, we
- 6:02Speaker 1: were thinking Halloween going to re release the Danzig Misfits
- 6:05Speaker 1: episode and the Disgrace Land Feed. Why don't we do
- 6:07Speaker 1: an episode on the Misfits movie and we'll tie them
- 6:10Speaker 1: together and release them around the same time. So that's
- 6:13Speaker 1: what we've done. You're going to be able to go
- 6:15Speaker 1: to the bad Lands Feed this week and hear that
- 6:17Speaker 1: Misfits movie episode. Okay again, the last film that both
- 6:22Speaker 1: Marilyn Monroe and Clark Gable made, not just together. I
- 6:25Speaker 1: don't think they made a film before that actually together,
- 6:27Speaker 1: but the last film they made, and the lore of
- 6:30Speaker 1: the film is that it killed them both. It was
- 6:32Speaker 1: that crazy of an experience, and Maril Monroe was even
- 6:37Speaker 1: subsequently blamed for her hero who Clark Gable was her
- 6:40Speaker 1: hero's death. Anyways, just you know, in John Houston larger
- 6:44Speaker 1: than life character directing it. Montgomery Cliff also a huge, huge,
- 6:48Speaker 1: dynamic character, just really really interesting story so check out
- 6:52Speaker 1: the Misfits movie episode and the bad Lands feed this
- 6:55Speaker 1: week as well. So this is essentially a crossover episode
- 6:58Speaker 1: between both the disgrace landpock in the bad Lands podcast.
- 7:01Speaker 1: We've done this before with Mama Cass Elliott and Sharon Tate.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Mama Cass Elliott has two episodes dedicated to her in Disgraceland,
- 7:10Speaker 1: and her friend Sharon Tate has two episodes dedicated to
- 7:13Speaker 1: her in bad Lands. We had more of an intentional
- 7:17Speaker 1: aim at these two episodes. The crossover here that we
- 7:19Speaker 1: did with the Misfits ones, the thing that we did
- 7:24Speaker 1: with the Sharon Tate and Mama Cass episodes is we
- 7:26Speaker 1: essentially told the same story from two different points of view.
- 7:31Speaker 1: And I don't know, I think we did a really
- 7:32Speaker 1: good job. I'm really proud of those two episodes. I
- 7:35Speaker 1: don't know, though, what do you guys think? What do
- 7:36Speaker 1: you think of this crossover thing? More importantly, not specifically,
- 7:39Speaker 1: what do you think of the Misfits episodes? Though I
- 7:41Speaker 1: am interested in that, But what I'm more interested in
- 7:44Speaker 1: is what do you think of crossing over between Disgraceland
- 7:46Speaker 1: and bad Lands. A lot of people think that it
- 7:49Speaker 1: should just be one show. A lot of people think
- 7:51Speaker 1: we should do more versions of what we're already doing
- 7:55Speaker 1: in different genres, but I'm kind of liking the way
- 7:58Speaker 1: it's going now, and I'm kind of liking the way
- 8:00Speaker 1: that we're able to cross over when we want and
- 8:02Speaker 1: kind of keep them separate as well. But let me
- 8:04Speaker 1: know what you guys. Thank you guys are the most
- 8:06Speaker 1: important opinions out there. You're the voices of Double Elvis,
- 8:10Speaker 1: the voices of Disgraceland and bad Lands, and you know
- 8:13Speaker 1: how to make your voice heard. It's six one seven
- 8:16Speaker 1: nine oh six, six six three eight, Okay, And then
- 8:19Speaker 1: at disgracelam pod on the socials and disgracelampod at gmail
- 8:24Speaker 1: dot com on email. All right, I cannot wait to
- 8:27Speaker 1: hear from you guys this week. Can't wait to hear
- 8:29Speaker 1: from you on all things music, all things true crime,
- 8:32Speaker 1: all things even Hollywood. We'll get to that in the
- 8:34Speaker 1: wrap party. Bonus episodes over in the bad Lands. Feed
- 8:37Speaker 1: but again. Six one seven nine oh six, six six
- 8:39Speaker 1: three eight. Let me know what you're thinking, Let me
- 8:41Speaker 1: know what you want to hear for future episodes of Disgraceland.
- 8:44Speaker 1: Let me know what you think about crossover episodes with
- 8:47Speaker 1: bad Lands, and I'm here to talk about whatever you
- 8:49Speaker 1: want more general stuff. Receive some very heartfelt dms from
- 8:53Speaker 1: a few of you this week. I'm not exactly sure
- 8:57Speaker 1: why they came this time of year. Star Together. We're
- 9:00Speaker 1: gonna get to that later in the engagement part of
- 9:03Speaker 1: this episode. But like I said, I'm here to talk
- 9:06Speaker 1: to you guys about whatever you want to talk about.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Six one seven nine oh six six six three eight.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Take a quick break back in the flash. All right,
- 9:33Speaker 1: we're back. You know the drill six one seven nine
- 9:36Speaker 1: oh six six six three eight to get at me
- 9:37Speaker 1: on voicemail or text. Let's check out this voicemail from
- 9:41Speaker 1: the five to four to.
- 9:41Speaker 3: Zero Jake, Sure, Happy Halloween eight.
- 9:45Speaker 4: Well you did it.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I listened to the missed It episode for like about
- 9:50Speaker 2: the third time or something, and.
- 9:52Speaker 4: Uh did that this morning.
- 9:55Speaker 2: And you know what, I've been listening to all day
- 9:57Speaker 2: long now missed it one days, been in my head
- 10:01Speaker 2: all day long. Thanks man, I appreciate it. No, actually
- 10:04Speaker 2: I really do, thank you. I had listened to them
- 10:09Speaker 2: in a very long time, but thank you for that,
- 10:12Speaker 2: and I appreciate that.
- 10:13Speaker 3: Up says you got it.
- 10:15Speaker 1: Five four h I love when when things come across
- 10:20Speaker 1: the sort of cultural landscape.
- 10:23Speaker 5: That have to do with.
- 10:24Speaker 1: Bands or movies or whatever that I haven't really paid
- 10:27Speaker 1: attention to in a long time, and it's just another
- 10:29Speaker 1: excuse to pull me back into it. So anything I've
- 10:31Speaker 1: done to pull you back into the Misfits right on.
- 10:34Speaker 1: And I'm super psyched that you dug the episode. Thank you.
- 10:36Speaker 1: All right, let's hear from Mike in the nine seventy.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Hey, Jake, someone that's close but that's been pushing it
- 10:44Speaker 3: off for a while. My name is Mike. I haven't
- 10:48Speaker 3: done his little stage full cancer about six years ago,
- 10:52Speaker 3: and I already told my wife keep me in your
- 10:55Speaker 3: heart by Warren Zebo, and that's my checkouts on. You
- 10:59Speaker 3: have a great day. Talk to you later. Bye bye.
- 11:01Speaker 1: All right, Mike, thank you, thanks for your message. I
- 11:04Speaker 1: hope you're doing well. Appreciate it. Mike of course is
- 11:09Speaker 1: calling in and we put up the call you know,
- 11:11Speaker 1: what's the what's your Funeral song? And I did a
- 11:14Speaker 1: kind of tongue in cheek thinking that we were all
- 11:15Speaker 1: thinking about a time way down the line in the future.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Sounds like Mike has some more a more pressing need
- 11:23Speaker 1: to think about this sort of thing. U and Mike
- 11:25Speaker 1: your your choice here. Keep Me in your Heart by
- 11:28Speaker 1: Warren Zevon. Is you know it's a tear jerker. I
- 11:31Speaker 1: want to start crying just thinking about it. I hope
- 11:33Speaker 1: you're doing well. I hope your wife is well and
- 11:37Speaker 1: h yeah, man, hit us back, keep us posted, let
- 11:39Speaker 1: us know how you're doing. All right, Let's hear from
- 11:41Speaker 1: David in the two six to two on you know
- 11:44Speaker 1: what he's up to while he's listening to Disgraceland.
- 11:47Speaker 6: Jacob Man, this is David in the two six two.
- 11:50Speaker 6: First time, long time you've been asking when people listen
- 11:53Speaker 6: to Disgraceland, and.
- 11:53Speaker 5: For me, I save it for well.
- 11:55Speaker 6: I'm doing yard work, making leaves, mowing the grass, shoveling snow,
- 11:58Speaker 6: all that crap.
- 12:00Speaker 7: It's perfect.
- 12:00Speaker 6: There's no other bullshit in my face. I could just
- 12:02Speaker 6: focus on you. This afternoon, I was raking leaves and
- 12:05Speaker 6: listening to the episode on Skip James when you mentioned
- 12:07Speaker 6: that he came to Grafton, Wisconsin to record. I happened
- 12:10Speaker 6: to live in Grafton, one hundred yards from where the
- 12:12Speaker 6: Paramount Records building. Was what a trip hearing you mentioned
- 12:15Speaker 6: my hometown. Love the show and how well you tell
- 12:17Speaker 6: these fascinating stories. Keep it up, man, click.
- 12:20Speaker 1: David, thank you for the message.
- 12:22Speaker 3: Love this.
- 12:23Speaker 1: I do the same thing when i'm when i'm you know,
- 12:25Speaker 1: taking out the trash, doing yard work whatever, that's when
- 12:28Speaker 1: I tend to be listening to podcasts. But it makes
- 12:32Speaker 1: me happy, man, to know that I'm in your head
- 12:34Speaker 1: while you're raking those leaves, you're listening to me talk
- 12:36Speaker 1: Skip James and then skip James recorded right down the
- 12:39Speaker 1: road from you. Pretty amazing. Love this stuff. Keep it coming.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Hope you're well and talk soon. All right, man, All right,
- 12:45Speaker 1: let's hear from this disgrace and listener over in Scotland my.
- 12:50Speaker 8: Mind Jake scattas Faede Bony Skull and Longtain Musla Fastained
- 12:55Speaker 8: Cola just to.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Crct nass you see.
- 12:58Speaker 8: Keep hope you could.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Talk to me. Yeah, podcasts, all of them.
- 13:02Speaker 8: It really got me through some dark times in my
- 13:05Speaker 8: life's mate, honest life lately it's been good and I
- 13:08Speaker 8: don't think you appreciate how much your story detailing helps
- 13:12Speaker 8: to take us away from all of life's problems, even
- 13:16Speaker 8: just for a wee while.
- 13:18Speaker 3: Keep probably good.
- 13:18Speaker 8: But also how about an episode about Dylan's role and
- 13:22Speaker 8: Thunder tour man was up to all sorts, you know
- 13:26Speaker 8: it anyway, mate, much love for you cross the Pond jails,
- 13:31Speaker 8: my man.
- 13:32Speaker 1: I love the message. Thanks for listening way over there
- 13:34Speaker 1: in Scotland. Happy to hear that listening to Disgraceline is
- 13:39Speaker 1: helping you out whatever way it is. I cannot tell
- 13:41Speaker 1: you how much gratitude I have for your message here.
- 13:47Speaker 1: It just really makes me feel like we're doing something
- 13:49Speaker 1: worthwhile here. So I hope whatever's got you down has
- 13:54Speaker 1: lightened up a little bit and that you're able to
- 13:55Speaker 1: get through your day with a little more ease. And yeah, dude,
- 14:00Speaker 1: Dylan rolling Thunder. That's a whole whole whole thing that
- 14:04Speaker 1: we will get into at one point. What a wonderful
- 14:08Speaker 1: cast of characters there, Bob Dylan, Alan Ginsberg, Damn who else,
- 14:15Speaker 1: Sam Sheppard, t Bo and Burnett. Just incredible. All right, man,
- 14:19Speaker 1: keep listening and stay in touch.
- 14:21Speaker 5: All right.
- 14:21Speaker 1: Let's hear from Edison in the seven seven three.
- 14:24Speaker 7: Jake Edison from the seven seven three on the subject
- 14:27Speaker 7: of music that gives us the chills. If you're talking
- 14:31Speaker 7: soundtrack music, John Carper during the like you should include
- 14:38Speaker 7: Vic Mizzy's Haunted Organ music from the Ghost and Mister Chicken.
- 14:43Speaker 7: I've talked to other people over the years, generally my age,
- 14:46Speaker 7: but whoever seen that movie has agreed with me. It
- 14:49Speaker 7: gives you the shit chills every time you hear it.
- 14:51Speaker 6: I still get goosebumps.
- 14:53Speaker 7: And I saw the movie was when I was like
- 14:55Speaker 7: five years old. Vic Mizzy also wrote the scenes of
- 14:59Speaker 7: The Adams Family music, so the guy obviously knew how
- 15:02Speaker 7: to work a nerve and write a good hook as well.
- 15:06Speaker 7: But give that, Alicia. Tell me I'm wrong, but.
- 15:10Speaker 3: It's chilling.
- 15:12Speaker 1: That's it, rock and roll one, Edison, great message, man. Yeah,
- 15:16Speaker 1: John Carpenter, for sure, I've never heard of Haunted Organ
- 15:20Speaker 1: music for the Ghost of Mister Chicken. But anything that's
- 15:22Speaker 1: going to give you the quote unquote shit chills that
- 15:24Speaker 1: you mentioned, I'm here for it. And interesting tidbit about
- 15:29Speaker 1: that being the writer for the Adams Family music as well.
- 15:31Speaker 7: Love it.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Thanks for the thanks for the note, and I've played
- 15:36Speaker 1: The Fog the soundtrack for The Fog for my five
- 15:39Speaker 1: year old, which is John Carpenter, as you know, Edison,
- 15:43Speaker 1: and honestly, all I have to do is put that
- 15:45Speaker 1: music on and just drop my voice like this, and
- 15:48Speaker 1: I can talk about anything. I can talk about the
- 15:51Speaker 1: sun coming up. I can talk about rainbows and puppy
- 15:54Speaker 1: dogs and cute little kittens, and my five year old
- 15:57Speaker 1: loses his fucking mind in fear. Just because of the
- 16:00Speaker 1: tonality of the voice set to the John Carpenter music.
- 16:04Speaker 1: It still works. It's been working for about a year
- 16:06Speaker 1: and a half now. Yes, I'm the worst at all right,
- 16:09Speaker 1: it's a couple more voicemails here, what else we got?
- 16:11Speaker 1: All right, let's hear from the five to one three
- 16:14Speaker 1: on some more spooky songs.
- 16:16Speaker 4: Hello, Jake, I am they saying my name is cat
- 16:20Speaker 4: House Boo. And as for a scary.
- 16:23Speaker 3: Song, the song garbage number.
- 16:28Speaker 4: One Proshi it's that song.
- 16:29Speaker 3: It's like, oh die three.
- 16:32Speaker 4: I was driving down the street. Someone ran in front
- 16:35Speaker 4: of my car and their head went through my windshield.
- 16:39Speaker 4: So if I hear that song, I start to sweat.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Hopefully the guy was okay, but I never heard I
- 16:47Speaker 4: figured it the passaway on what it know? Anyway, I
- 16:51Speaker 4: keep up the good work.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Thanks damn well. Cathouse Blue. First of all, your name
- 16:58Speaker 1: sounds like you're from a Sam Peck and Palm movie,
- 17:00Speaker 1: which is obviously a good thing. I'm just I'm just
- 17:06Speaker 1: gonna go with the fact that you you just left
- 17:08Speaker 1: out some details in this, like the guy was tended
- 17:11Speaker 1: to but you don't know if he if he died,
- 17:13Speaker 1: you didn't drive away from the scene. I'm guessing that's
- 17:16Speaker 1: not what happened. And yes, I'm hoping that the man
- 17:19Speaker 1: whose head smashed through windshield is okay as well. And
- 17:22Speaker 1: I can completely understand how you would be traumatized every
- 17:24Speaker 1: time you would hear that song that was playing when
- 17:26Speaker 1: this event happened. Damn quite the message. Uh calls back
- 17:31Speaker 1: Cathouse Blue. Sounds like he got some stories, all right.
- 17:35Speaker 1: So Voicemail of the Week comes from the five to
- 17:38Speaker 1: four to h five four to oh, I love it.
- 17:40Speaker 1: Sean play that.
- 17:41Speaker 3: One, mister Jaikester.
- 17:44Speaker 5: I'm at my funeral. I believe I'll get him to
- 17:48Speaker 5: play the sex pistols. Pretty vacant, just because I want
- 17:55Speaker 5: everybody in the whole thing to have to listen to
- 17:57Speaker 5: sex pistles. Everybody should listening to sex ustle anyway, and
- 18:01Speaker 5: pretty vacant. So I mean, you're you're dead and ballance
- 18:04Speaker 5: that you're pretty much vacant. But anyway, that's but then
- 18:08Speaker 5: you'll like this. You could always just play a soundtrack
- 18:12Speaker 5: of a of a sixty seven Mustang ninety Big Block
- 18:17Speaker 5: just going through the gears.
- 18:19Speaker 1: But thanks man, yo, yes, spot on quite literally dead
- 18:25Speaker 1: and gone and pretty vacant. So sex pistols makes total
- 18:28Speaker 1: sense for the funeral song. But I got to hand
- 18:31Speaker 1: it to you, man, Uh, the three ninety big block
- 18:33Speaker 1: Mustang just going through the gears, that's just that. Nothing
- 18:38Speaker 1: screams life more than the sound of a big American
- 18:42Speaker 1: engine from a muscle car. So I'm with you on
- 18:45Speaker 1: that good stuff, all right? Six one seven nine oh
- 18:48Speaker 1: six six six three eight voicemail and text to get
- 18:52Speaker 1: at me on what your favorite funeral song is. What
- 18:55Speaker 1: disgrace Land episodes you want to hear in the future,
- 18:58Speaker 1: What bad Lands episodes you want to hear in the future.
- 19:00Speaker 1: We're going to start there, but you guys can talk
- 19:02Speaker 1: to me about anything, you know that. All right, We're
- 19:04Speaker 1: gonna take a quick break, come back and read some texts.
- 19:21Speaker 1: All right, Let's do some texts, all right? This one
- 19:24Speaker 1: from the two two eight. Hey, Jake, this is Michelle
- 19:26Speaker 1: with one L. I listened to Disgraceland when I'm getting
- 19:29Speaker 1: ready for work. I work at a very busy, upscale
- 19:31Speaker 1: restaurant in Gulfport, Mississippi, and I enjoy it so much
- 19:34Speaker 1: that I take notes on the recommendations and I have
- 19:37Speaker 1: a few pages of them, enough to keep me busy
- 19:39Speaker 1: for a long time. I don't know how you have
- 19:41Speaker 1: enough time to watch all this stuff and listen to
- 19:43Speaker 1: all this stuff, but I sure am glad that you do.
- 19:46Speaker 1: I have a question, where did you get the name
- 19:49Speaker 1: double Elvis? And are y'all unpacked now? Since you moved?
- 19:52Speaker 1: Love you rock a rolla? Well, all right, Michelle, appreciate
- 19:56Speaker 1: this message. I really do. Glad you're digging the res Okay,
- 19:59Speaker 1: so here he's a dirty little secret. Here's how I
- 20:01Speaker 1: have time to watch and listen and read everything that
- 20:05Speaker 1: I watched, listen and read maybe about I don't know.
- 20:10Speaker 1: Ten years ago, I was listening to an interview with
- 20:13Speaker 1: Jason Schwarzman. He's the actor from Rushmore and a ton
- 20:17Speaker 1: of other things. You'll recognize him. He's Talia Shire, the
- 20:20Speaker 1: actress Talia Shire from the Godfather from Rocky, he's her son,
- 20:25Speaker 1: and he's also Francis for Coppola's nephew. Anyways, I was
- 20:30Speaker 1: listening to an interview he was doing. And in addition
- 20:33Speaker 1: to him being an actor that I think is just
- 20:35Speaker 1: fucking fantastic, he's also he's also a musician. He's a drummer.
- 20:39Speaker 1: He's in a band called Phantom Planet. I believe his
- 20:42Speaker 1: brother's a musician as well. Anyways, he was talking about
- 20:45Speaker 1: growing up with his mom, who, like I said, was
- 20:47Speaker 1: an actress, and what it was like, and he described
- 20:52Speaker 1: his house as being one where his mom always had
- 20:56Speaker 1: multiple things going on that she was consuming culturally. So
- 21:03Speaker 1: in one room, she would have a movie playing, and
- 21:07Speaker 1: you know, maybe she was watching it, maybe she wasn't,
- 21:10Speaker 1: but she's passing through the room throughout the day. And
- 21:12Speaker 1: in the other room she would have music playing. And
- 21:15Speaker 1: then you know, she'd be in the kitchen and she'd
- 21:17Speaker 1: be cooking, and she'd be reading a menu from the
- 21:18Speaker 1: New York Times cookbook or or or you know, up
- 21:22Speaker 1: up in the bathroom there'd be there'd be all these
- 21:24Speaker 1: great magazines, and perhaps in another room there was a
- 21:27Speaker 1: book that she would just have open where she left
- 21:30Speaker 1: off reading, like a great piece of literature or something
- 21:32Speaker 1: like that. And I thought that just sounded wonderful, and
- 21:35Speaker 1: I had a kind of similar upbringing at my father's house.
- 21:41Speaker 1: And I didn't grow up with my dad, but I
- 21:42Speaker 1: was certainly at his place a lot, and it was similar.
- 21:45Speaker 1: It wasn't the same, but it was similar. I was
- 21:47Speaker 1: exposed to a lot. So my point is, that's that's
- 21:51Speaker 1: how I run our house. You know, we have we
- 21:54Speaker 1: have a lot of televisions and different rooms, and a
- 21:56Speaker 1: lot of stereos and a lot of records, and I've
- 21:57Speaker 1: got shit going all the time. I might have a
- 22:00Speaker 1: horror movie on in one room and you know, my
- 22:03Speaker 1: kids maybe watching you know, something a little more PG
- 22:06Speaker 1: in another room. There's there's multiple books all over the
- 22:08Speaker 1: place and I'm in and out of and I'm reading.
- 22:10Speaker 1: Reading's tough because I have to read a lot for work,
- 22:12Speaker 1: so that's a tough one. But listening to music as well.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I'm constantly listening to music, even if I'll have music
- 22:20Speaker 1: blaring throughout the house and movies on different TV screens
- 22:24Speaker 1: with just you know, the volume on the film down.
- 22:28Speaker 1: And then of course, you know, I've learned that as
- 22:31Speaker 1: the busier I get with a family, it's just damn
- 22:34Speaker 1: hard to watch a movie from start to finish. I
- 22:37Speaker 1: don't watch as much television. But I'll just put movies
- 22:40Speaker 1: on and I'll just get sucked into them, and I'll
- 22:43Speaker 1: watch as much of them as I can, and then
- 22:45Speaker 1: I watch them in fits and spurts, and I just
- 22:47Speaker 1: kind of piece it all together. And that's how I
- 22:49Speaker 1: do it. My wife kind of does her version of
- 22:50Speaker 1: the same thing, so I get I get kind of
- 22:52Speaker 1: the double exposure, which is awesome. And then my kids
- 22:55Speaker 1: they're they're they're finding their way into stuff on their
- 22:57Speaker 1: own as well, and they're exposing me to things. So
- 23:01Speaker 1: that's it. That's how I do it, if that makes
- 23:03Speaker 1: any sense at all. It's a big friggin' mess, but
- 23:05Speaker 1: it's a it's a fun one, all right. The five
- 23:08Speaker 1: four to one says, in text form you ask for
- 23:12Speaker 1: dog pictures, we have Moon, Queen of Hops and Arnold
- 23:15Speaker 1: the punk chilling on a hammock listening to Disgraceland and
- 23:19Speaker 1: Moon Queen of Hops as chain dog and Flop as
- 23:22Speaker 1: Moon's digging sidekick. There is an offense these two can't
- 23:25Speaker 1: jump over or dig under. Hashtag fence break twenty twenty three,
- 23:28Speaker 1: and there's two really cute looking dogs. One looks like
- 23:32Speaker 1: a pit bull mix and the other one is some
- 23:34Speaker 1: other kind of terrier mix. I'm guessing. Uh, these are
- 23:38Speaker 1: really really gorgeous dogs, and I love that they're listening
- 23:41Speaker 1: to Disgraceland. I gotta say Disgraceland for the dog. Six
- 23:44Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. Text
- 23:47Speaker 1: us your dog pictures, text us your questions, your recommendations,
- 23:50Speaker 1: anything you got three one six texts in. Hey, Jake,
- 23:53Speaker 1: this is Jason from the three one six. I always
- 23:55Speaker 1: said that when I died, I wanted Norman Greenbaum's song
- 23:58Speaker 1: Spirit in the Sky play at my funeral. Love the
- 24:01Speaker 1: guitar riffs and it's a good message as well. You
- 24:03Speaker 1: know what else, Jason about that song, It fucking feels good.
- 24:07Speaker 1: It's got a good fucking groove, it's played out. I
- 24:10Speaker 1: mean that song. I don't actively try to listen to
- 24:13Speaker 1: that song, but if I heard it at a funeral,
- 24:15Speaker 1: I'd be like, this is perfect. This dude, this dude
- 24:18Speaker 1: had good taste in a good sense of timing. Four
- 24:22Speaker 1: to four to Roh Rights and Jake. Huge fan of
- 24:24Speaker 1: Double Elvis podcasts. I was catching up on some episodes.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Wanted to give you my favorite Halloween songs and uh yeah,
- 24:32Speaker 1: the four Tour row here gives us six. I don't
- 24:34Speaker 1: know why six, but six works Number six Spooky Atlanta
- 24:37Speaker 1: Rhythm Section five, Monster, Kanye West featuring Nicki, Minaj, Bonaver,
- 24:41Speaker 1: Rick ross A, jay Z, four Bars, The Spider, The
- 24:44Speaker 1: Who three Season of the Witch, Donovan two Monster by
- 24:47Speaker 1: Skillet one Monster Hash by the Toys. Hey have you
- 24:51Speaker 1: heard Lona del Rey's Season of the Witch? I actually
- 24:53Speaker 1: think I might like it. No, I don't like it
- 24:55Speaker 1: more than Donovan's. I have a tough relationship with Donovan.
- 24:57Speaker 1: I'll say that, but you check her version out. It's
- 25:00Speaker 1: good and appreciate the text. Four four h Also, just
- 25:04Speaker 1: before I forget a couple of text ago, someone asked
- 25:07Speaker 1: about the name double Elvis and where it came from.
- 25:09Speaker 1: And obviously we're all things Elvis here at Disgraceland, but
- 25:15Speaker 1: I read that there was that famous Warhol photo of
- 25:18Speaker 1: the two Elvis's the photo of Elvis where he's got
- 25:22Speaker 1: the gun. It's full size, and there's there's sort of
- 25:25Speaker 1: one image of Elvis layered over the exact same image
- 25:29Speaker 1: of Elvis, and that that piece of art by Warhol
- 25:32Speaker 1: is called double Elvis. And I thought that was cool
- 25:35Speaker 1: because we deal with dichotomies here we're telling these stories
- 25:38Speaker 1: of people who who make great music and do horrible things.
- 25:41Speaker 1: And I just like the sort of duality of the
- 25:44Speaker 1: sound of the name double Elvis as it pertained to
- 25:47Speaker 1: what we're trying to do here with thematically, with the storytelling.
- 25:50Speaker 1: So there you go, all right, now you know? Three
- 25:53Speaker 1: one two rights and Happy Halloween, Jake Sarah from Wisconsin. Here,
- 25:57Speaker 1: I have to say, the one song I would pick
- 26:00Speaker 1: for my funeral is a sweet song but still a
- 26:02Speaker 1: good one, and that is Over the Rainbow by Izz Hope.
- 26:07Speaker 1: You have a fabulous spooky season.
- 26:08Speaker 4: Who is?
- 26:10Speaker 3: Who is?
- 26:11Speaker 1: Is she trying to say, Liza Judy Garland? Three one
- 26:15Speaker 1: two right back? Let me know who is is? All right?
- 26:19Speaker 1: What else? What else? What else? Do you guys want
- 26:22Speaker 1: to talk about? Six one seven nine oh six six
- 26:24Speaker 1: six three eight. You know how to get in touch,
- 26:27Speaker 1: Hit me up voicemail, text down to talk funeral songs forever,
- 26:31Speaker 1: down to talk about favorite Disgraceland subjects. I want to
- 26:35Speaker 1: know how your Halloween was. I especially want to know
- 26:38Speaker 1: what you do when you're listening to Disgraceland. And I
- 26:41Speaker 1: want to know what you guys want from me as
- 26:43Speaker 1: a podcaster, as a creator. What you're looking for, I
- 26:45Speaker 1: don't know. It's been a while, it's been a minute.
- 26:47Speaker 1: Hit me up and let me know. Six one seven
- 26:49Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight. Going to take
- 26:51Speaker 1: a quick break back with some dms. All right, we
- 27:05Speaker 1: are back. I want to do a couple of dms here,
- 27:08Speaker 1: this one. Tony Carbone writes in on Instagram DM at
- 27:13Speaker 1: Disgrace lampod. That's where we're on Instagram if you guys
- 27:15Speaker 1: want to hit me up there. Tony Carbone writes in
- 27:18Speaker 1: true story, I had retina surgery done in Florida last year.
- 27:22Speaker 1: The surgeon doctor Carl Danzig, a cousin of Glenn. I
- 27:28Speaker 1: love that. I fucking love that, all right, Tony, good one?
- 27:33Speaker 1: All right. This listener writes in at Disgrace Lampod, also
- 27:37Speaker 1: on Instagram. I'm not going to give this listener's name,
- 27:40Speaker 1: but he writes, Hey, Jake, just a quick note to
- 27:42Speaker 1: say that I just spent the last five weeks in
- 27:44Speaker 1: psychiatric care during a pretty massive manic episode of my
- 27:47Speaker 1: bipolar disorder. And when I finally checked in on my
- 27:51Speaker 1: favorite shows, I saw there's a whole season of Disgraceland
- 27:55Speaker 1: on Wu Tang Clan and I am so excited to
- 27:58Speaker 1: dig in. This gentleman goes on to talk about how
- 28:03Speaker 1: Ghostface just made a record with Bad, Bad, Not Good,
- 28:06Speaker 1: which I did not know about. I love Bad, Bad,
- 28:08Speaker 1: Not Good, and I need to check that out. And
- 28:10Speaker 1: this fine gentleman goes on to say that the album's
- 28:12Speaker 1: amazing and anyways, take care and thanks for doing what
- 28:15Speaker 1: you do. And you got it at disgracelam pod. You
- 28:19Speaker 1: guys want to hit me up on Instagram, on x
- 28:21Speaker 1: on Facebook, just like Christine Manuel who writes saying, Hey,
- 28:25Speaker 1: when I was in high school, I attended a federal
- 28:27Speaker 1: boarding school that was located smack dab right in the
- 28:30Speaker 1: heart of Phoenix. And this was also geared for Native
- 28:34Speaker 1: American students. And this is also where I first heard
- 28:37Speaker 1: Bob Marley. And what struck me to say, what the
- 28:40Speaker 1: fuck was The kids that were blaring this awesome quote
- 28:43Speaker 1: unquote new music were from the Havasupai tribe. I know
- 28:48Speaker 1: I'm saying that incorrectly, and I apologize. They have a
- 28:50Speaker 1: relatively small nation at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.
- 28:54Speaker 1: And how did this really remote tribe get turned on
- 28:57Speaker 1: to Bob Marley before the rest of the native tribes
- 28:59Speaker 1: who had your access to just about everything the tribes
- 29:02Speaker 1: that don't live in the Grand Canyon. I believe Marley
- 29:05Speaker 1: even went there and performed a concert and that's what
- 29:08Speaker 1: did the trick. So pretty incredible story there. I love
- 29:11Speaker 1: these sort of anthropological stories of music and how it
- 29:15Speaker 1: gets to certain people before others really interesting. Appreciate that, Christine,
- 29:20Speaker 1: thanks for the message.
- 29:21Speaker 2: All right.
- 29:22Speaker 1: My friend Chelsea start Us writes in Okay, here, she
- 29:25Speaker 1: writes in I love this. She's talking about this story
- 29:29Speaker 1: we did where we were talking about our favorite Halloween music.
- 29:31Speaker 1: Chelsea writes, I make a different Halloween playlist every year,
- 29:34Speaker 1: have been since twenty fifteen. She sent me the link.
- 29:39Speaker 1: She goes on to recommend the Killer Sounds of Halloween albums. Okay, so,
- 29:44Speaker 1: if you guys are into a long playing Halloween playlist,
- 29:48Speaker 1: not too too long, but it's long and filled with
- 29:51Speaker 1: great songs, great tracks. Each album, Chelsea says, has thirteen
- 29:55Speaker 1: tracks by thirteen fake bands. But our homage is to
- 29:58Speaker 1: other bands which you will recognize and feature lots of
- 30:01Speaker 1: folks from the horror filmmaking world, and they are awesome.
- 30:04Speaker 1: If you're looking for this, go to band camp and
- 30:06Speaker 1: search The Killer Sounds of Halloween by Sean Keller and Friends.
- 30:10Speaker 1: It's actually eighteen tracks. It's pretty dope. We've been cranking
- 30:13Speaker 1: around the house and you're gonna dig it all right
- 30:15Speaker 1: at Disgrace slam pod on Instagram, on Twitter, on Facebook. Okay,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you want to talk some recommendations. I've been blabbing a
- 30:23Speaker 1: lot here, all right, blabbing to you guys though, so
- 30:25Speaker 1: it's all good. So I watched someone's recommendation on Instagram.
- 30:30Speaker 1: I watched Suspiria. This is the classic early eighties I
- 30:35Speaker 1: believe horror movie, Italian horror movie, and the movie is
- 30:39Speaker 1: scored by Goblin. This is one of those movies where
- 30:43Speaker 1: it is just too fucked up for me to explain.
- 30:46Speaker 1: There's no way I can explain this and do it justice.
- 30:48Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna tell you just go find it. Suspiria,
- 30:52Speaker 1: s usp I r Ia. If you love horror and
- 30:56Speaker 1: you love creepy fucking music, this is the marriage you've
- 31:00Speaker 1: always been looking for. And for those of you who
- 31:03Speaker 1: love this film, for those of you who hold this
- 31:07Speaker 1: horror movie deeply to your heart, I apologize for the
- 31:12Speaker 1: very shitty description non description that I'm giving I just
- 31:15Speaker 1: I don't know what to do with it, but I
- 31:16Speaker 1: do feel compelled to talk about it because it's that good.
- 31:20Speaker 1: Anyone has criteria and collection. It's being featured on there
- 31:23Speaker 1: right now. You can also, I believe you can watch
- 31:25Speaker 1: the whole thing on YouTube as well for free. So
- 31:28Speaker 1: check that out. And Goblin, just fucking Google Goblin. Man,
- 31:31Speaker 1: They're gonna blow your mind if you don't know about them.
- 31:33Speaker 1: All right, what else am I recommending? Of course I
- 31:35Speaker 1: recommended that because of the Goblin. The music side of it,
- 31:39Speaker 1: just recommended you that playlist from Chelsea Stardust. Check that out.
- 31:42Speaker 1: I'm gonna do something here because I'm drawing a blank.
- 31:45Speaker 1: I'm just gonna go through my Spotify search history for
- 31:49Speaker 1: the last few days and talk about what I've been
- 31:54Speaker 1: searching and listening to. All Right, Walking with a Ghost
- 31:58Speaker 1: by Teagan and Sarah. I wasn't listening to that for me.
- 32:02Speaker 1: I was listening to that for my five year old
- 32:04Speaker 1: who loves that song, and I freaked him out. He
- 32:06Speaker 1: was taking a shower and I just remotely started playing
- 32:09Speaker 1: it from the other room in the bathroom to get
- 32:12Speaker 1: a rise out of him. Also, there is a this
- 32:15Speaker 1: is good for those of you who like to listen
- 32:16Speaker 1: to music while you work but are doing something that
- 32:20Speaker 1: requires just critical thinking. I can't. I can't listen to
- 32:25Speaker 1: music with words, with vocals when I'm writing or researching.
- 32:29Speaker 1: It's too distracting. So there's a couple of things I
- 32:31Speaker 1: listened to. I listen to classical music. I listen to
- 32:34Speaker 1: hard bop jazz. And if i'm if I really need
- 32:37Speaker 1: to not be distracted, I listen to what is my
- 32:40Speaker 1: version of sort of acceptable music. And there's this profile
- 32:45Speaker 1: which a lot of millions of you probably know about,
- 32:47Speaker 1: that's on it's everywhere. It's on YouTube, and it's on Spotify.
- 32:51Speaker 1: It's it's called Lo Fi Girl, and it's great low
- 32:53Speaker 1: fi beats. There's there's typically no no vocals at all,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and you can just put that on Zone now right,
- 33:00Speaker 1: do whatever whatever you're doing. Also searched up some Bob
- 33:04Speaker 1: Mould looks like looks like. I searched up See a
- 33:06Speaker 1: Little Light, a song that I was on Instagram, and
- 33:09Speaker 1: I somehow got pointed to Bob Mould and he was
- 33:12Speaker 1: talking about that song and it reminded me of how
- 33:14Speaker 1: fucking great that song is. So I had that crank
- 33:16Speaker 1: in I was listening to the Corrosion of Conformity album Blind.
- 33:21Speaker 1: I was listening to day La Soul, all kinds of
- 33:23Speaker 1: day Las Soul, not just three feet high in rising.
- 33:27Speaker 1: But there's this other record home let me find It,
- 33:29Speaker 1: which I didn't know about. You know, this is one
- 33:30Speaker 1: of those things. It's like, you know, Dayla Soul never
- 33:33Speaker 1: really went away, or maybe they did, but looking at
- 33:35Speaker 1: their discography, they're just they've been making albums in great
- 33:41Speaker 1: music recently. They're not like, like their recent shit is
- 33:45Speaker 1: really fucking good. Specifically, I was listening to the twenty
- 33:50Speaker 1: sixteen album and the anonymous Nobody, which is great, It's fantastic.
- 33:55Speaker 1: I didn't hear anything on it that I didn't like.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I was like, wow, all right, I'm listening to a
- 33:58Speaker 1: full album again. Welcome to nineteen ninety eight. What else
- 34:03Speaker 1: do I got here? Jjkale very best at JJKAL playlist.
- 34:06Speaker 1: Anybody wants to chime in on which Jjkal album I
- 34:10Speaker 1: need to just go listen to as a full record.
- 34:12Speaker 1: I'm all ears, all right, let me know d'urgealing limited soundtrack.
- 34:18Speaker 1: I'm not sure why I pulled that up. I just
- 34:19Speaker 1: felt like it the fog soundtrack by John Carpenter and
- 34:23Speaker 1: uh yeah, that about does it for my recent Spotify searches.

- 35:24Speaker 1: we do have notes, and I have certain points I
- 35:25Speaker 1: want to make to you guys. But I just kind
- 35:27Speaker 1: of added lib the whole thing, and I got to say.
