- 1:05SPEAKER_03: Well, for one, thanks for doing this.
- 1:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, sure thing.
- 1:09SPEAKER_03: And this setup is like perfect.
- 1:11SPEAKER_03: This is like my old office.
- 1:12SPEAKER_03: I used to have I I used to have like a facility in Buffalo.
- 1:16SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:17SPEAKER_03: Uh, and I ran my own training company and then I had my own office, but then I kind of like got out of coaching and just I'm chasing this podcast.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:29SPEAKER_03: So I moved back to Michigan because that's where I came up as as a coach and whatnot.
- 1:34SPEAKER_03: I used to coach at the University of Detroit.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:36SPEAKER_03: Used to coach for Vardar.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:38SPEAKER_03: Back when they were like had the girls in the ECNL.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: What year was that?
- 1:43unknown: Oh boy.
- 1:44SPEAKER_03: Uh 2011, 12, 13.
- 1:47SPEAKER_01: Did you coach Sammy Corcoran?
- 1:50SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I did.
- 1:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I coached her at Ball State.
- 1:53SPEAKER_03: Wait a minute.
- 1:54SPEAKER_03: Didn't she play wait no?
- 1:56SPEAKER_03: Did she play?
- 1:57SPEAKER_03: She didn't play Country Day.
- 1:59SPEAKER_03: No.
- 2:00SPEAKER_01: I don't know where she went.
- 2:01SPEAKER_03: No, but um But you so you did.
- 2:04SPEAKER_01: Steve Shelton too, right?
- 2:05SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:06SPEAKER_03: Uh but I didn't coach with him.
- 2:08SPEAKER_03: I coached with Mike Lupinek.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:09SPEAKER_03: And then I assisted Demir.
- 2:11SPEAKER_04: Yep.
- 2:12SPEAKER_03: At well now Liverpool.
- 2:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:14SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_03: And so I didn't this is dumb, but I never realized it.
- 2:19SPEAKER_03: Like Xavier was in Ohio until like maybe three years ago.
- 2:25SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 2:26SPEAKER_03: Four years ago.
- 2:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 2:27SPEAKER_03: Because I always just thought it was the East Coast school.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: But well just because of the Big East part of it?
- 2:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I think so.
- 2:34SPEAKER_03: Have they always been in the Big East?
- 2:37SPEAKER_01: Um A10?
- 2:39SPEAKER_03: A ten.
- 2:40SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 2:40SPEAKER_01: A while back.
- 2:42SPEAKER_01: I don't know the history of it all.
- 2:44SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there's been some like with all the different schools jumping to different places.
- 2:48SPEAKER_03: Got it.
- 2:49SPEAKER_03: So this is your third year, Xavier?
- 2:53SPEAKER_01: This is my sixth.
- 2:56SPEAKER_03: Wait, Dean was only there for two years?
- 2:58SPEAKER_01: Uh Dean was only there for two years and I came under Nate.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 3:01SPEAKER_03: Where's Nate now?
- 3:02SPEAKER_01: Uh Kansas.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 3:04SPEAKER_03: And you stayed.
- 3:06SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 3:06SPEAKER_03: Because a lot of I mean, you could tell me.
- 3:09SPEAKER_03: I feel like a lot of times when one goes, everybody goes.
- 3:14SPEAKER_03: I mean, look at who you're playing today.
- 3:16SPEAKER_03: Basically the entire uh no, the uh entire Iowa staff just went to Michigan.
- 3:21SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep.
- 3:22SPEAKER_03: And I feel like that's more normal than people just staying.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I know.
- 3:26SPEAKER_03: So you've been there for six years.
- 3:29SPEAKER_03: And then were you up for the job the first time it opened?
- 3:34SPEAKER_01: Um, yes, kind of.
- 3:38SPEAKER_01: I was gonna go for it, and then I actually at the last second was like, I don't want to do this.
- 3:44SPEAKER_03: No, not yet.
- 3:46SPEAKER_03: What what like set you apart of this time?
- 3:49SPEAKER_03: What what was different?
- 3:51SPEAKER_01: Uh well when I first went and I went for Nate, it was Nate coached me at Miami, so he recruited me to Miami as he was an assistant then.
- 4:01SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 4:02SPEAKER_01: And when I came to Xavier, obviously he had been there.
- 4:07SPEAKER_01: This was in 2021.
- 4:09SPEAKER_01: So the season after uh we played in the spring because of COVID.
- 4:14SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 4:15SPEAKER_03: So and had like eight games or 10 games or something like that.
- 4:18SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 4:19SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 4:19SPEAKER_01: So that summer uh he had reached out because his assistants moved on, and I was like, oh, this is exciting.
- 4:28SPEAKER_01: Um and so yeah, when I first got there, then I was with Nate for 21, 22, 23 seasons.
- 4:37SPEAKER_01: Um, and it was awesome, like loved it.
- 4:40SPEAKER_01: But then I I sensed myself trying to be like him because I thought he was such a great coach, and then I just wasn't sure to like who I was as a coach, and so I don't think I had the confidence yet of like, okay, I can go do this.
- 4:56SPEAKER_01: But under Dean then, and him, you know, he was willing to keep me on as well.
- 5:01SPEAKER_01: Um, but under Dean, I saw myself more and how he coached, and then I was like, oh, there's two very different ways of doing things, and I can pull from both, but I just had way more confidence in hey, I can go do this now, and I want to go do this now, and um, it's been great ever since.
- 5:22SPEAKER_03: And then before Xavier, you were at Ball State?
- 5:25SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 5:26SPEAKER_03: How long were you at Ball State?
- 5:28SPEAKER_01: Uh I started in 2018.
- 5:31SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 5:32SPEAKER_01: Um and I started under Craig Roberts, and that's when I was on staff with Steve Shelton, so we were the two assistants.
- 5:39SPEAKER_02: Got it.
- 5:40SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:41SPEAKER_01: And my husband was at Ball State at that time too.
- 5:43SPEAKER_01: He was the head track coach.
- 5:44SPEAKER_01: So he actually he was there first.
- 5:47SPEAKER_01: And um he got there, I think, in 2016, and that season I volunteered at Ohio State and then uh after 2016?
- 5:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 5:57SPEAKER_03: Was Marissa Berzon there yet?
- 5:59SPEAKER_01: No, not yet.
- 6:00SPEAKER_01: She came like right after.
- 6:02SPEAKER_03: Yeah, 2017, maybe.
- 6:04SPEAKER_03: Okay, because I coached with Marissa.
- 6:05SPEAKER_03: Well, I coached Marissa and then I I hired her actually as one of my trainers in Buffalo.
- 6:10SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 6:11SPEAKER_01: Yeah, great player.
- 6:12SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Awesome kid, too.
- 6:14SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 6:15SPEAKER_01: Um, so yeah, and I basically moved to Muncie because of Brian.
- 6:20SPEAKER_01: We were dating at the time, and it was like, I want to get into coaching.
- 6:25SPEAKER_01: At this point in my career, I'm either chasing something somewhere, moving anywhere in the country for whatever opportunity is there, or I'm just gonna go where he is and figure it out.
- 6:34SPEAKER_01: So I went where he was and figured it out.
- 6:37SPEAKER_01: Because I I coached Muncie Central High School girls' soccer for a season and I taught PE and health.
- 6:44SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 6:45SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 6:45SPEAKER_03: Did you do any club stuff?
- 6:47SPEAKER_01: Um, no, not then.
- 6:50SPEAKER_01: I mean, when I was in Columbus, I was with OP.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:53SPEAKER_01: And I coached the U8, U9, U10 players, and one of those girls is now on our team at Xavier Liz Powell, which is wild.
- 7:02SPEAKER_01: She sent me a picture last summer before she got to Xavier, and it was from 2016, and she was just like this little kid.
- 7:09SPEAKER_01: And I was like, wow, that is wild.
- 7:12SPEAKER_01: Cause now we're here.
- 7:13SPEAKER_01: It was like nine years later, 10 years later.
- 7:16SPEAKER_03: I was just on a call with uh Bear from OP and Gus from OP.
- 7:22SPEAKER_03: Uh we're trying to do some stuff together.
- 7:25SPEAKER_03: I'm trying to get down there because you know, it's OP and they're one of the best clubs in the country or whatnot.
- 7:32SPEAKER_03: How much okay, how many kids from Ohio do you guys like recruit out of the last six years?
- 7:39SPEAKER_03: Is it all Ohio kids?
- 7:40SPEAKER_03: Or do you get so you're so close to Kentucky too?
- 7:42SPEAKER_03: How is like the Kentucky talent?
- 7:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, Kentucky's pretty good.
- 7:46SPEAKER_01: We've gotten some racing loyal player.
- 7:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 7:58SPEAKER_03: Do you come up here a lot?
- 8:00SPEAKER_01: Um, we've got a couple Hawks players on the team, and then um Grand Rapids.
- 8:06SPEAKER_03: Um what Midwest girls?
- 8:09SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 8:09SPEAKER_03: So you got G A and E C and L, you got all of it.
- 8:12SPEAKER_03: And you probably have some non-ECNL, non-platform kids.
- 8:16SPEAKER_03: Maybe?
- 8:17SPEAKER_03: Or not really?
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I mean, on our roster right now, Cassidy Parmeley, um, she played with Midwest a little bit, but no, otherwise, like she wasn't with um a big club because her career she had no our old assistant had seen her, I think, at like a Michigan State camp or some smaller camp when he came up here, and then she came down to ID camp and it was like, oh, this kid's she's a good player, like she's not being seen really.
- 8:45SPEAKER_01: And um, so we got really excited about her, but yeah, she's a freshman right now, but she's from up here, smaller town.
- 8:52SPEAKER_03: You were always in the like the college game, pretty much, and that's all always what you wanted to do.
- 8:58SPEAKER_03: You never wanted to do like the club stuff, not long-term or full-time.
- 9:04SPEAKER_01: Well, so I I guess I did do club stuff then again when I moved to Cincinnati.
- 9:09SPEAKER_01: So I was with Ohio Elite.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:11SPEAKER_01: And so it was great.
- 9:13SPEAKER_01: Actually, I loved it.
- 9:15SPEAKER_01: I um Doug brought me on, and I mean, he's been such a big piece of the ECNL.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 9:21SPEAKER_01: Um and Vice President, yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_01: Um, so that's been that was a lot of fun.
- 9:28SPEAKER_01: And I was a head coach for two seasons, and then uh I basically asked to like kind of step back, and I became more of like an assistant to Chris Black and Taran.
- 9:41SPEAKER_01: Um, once they came over, they were at King's Hammer.
- 9:44SPEAKER_01: And when Doug decided to stop doing the coaching, he brought Chris on and Chris and I were together for a year.
- 9:50SPEAKER_01: Um, and then Taran came over.
- 9:53SPEAKER_01: And so those guys ran the four teams, and then I just assisted them.
- 9:57SPEAKER_01: And that lasted all the way till last February when I got the job, and I was like, all right, I have it.
- 10:02SPEAKER_03: I gotta like take a step back and focus on this.
- 10:05SPEAKER_03: Mm-hmm.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 10:06SPEAKER_03: I mean, where is your husband now?
- 10:09SPEAKER_03: Is he still at Ball State?
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: No, no, no.
- 10:12SPEAKER_03: He's okay.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: He, so we were very much like, okay, we're both in this.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: He had a longer career in it.
- 10:18SPEAKER_01: He's a little older than I am, and so he had been in it longer.
- 10:21SPEAKER_01: He was a head coach, but in Muncie, we were both like, okay, we could stay here forever.
- 10:26SPEAKER_01: We have an awesome setup.
- 10:27SPEAKER_01: Like we both get to coach.
- 10:29SPEAKER_01: Our offices, like mine was on a floor, and his was right below mine.
- 10:33SPEAKER_01: Um, and so it was a great setup.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: But we also would have times where we're like, I just don't think we could live in Muncie the rest of our life.
- 10:41SPEAKER_01: Like, we want to go do other stuff.
- 10:43SPEAKER_01: But we were super thankful for what we had.
- 10:46SPEAKER_01: Um, and it was a lot of fun while we were there.
- 10:48SPEAKER_01: Like we had a great group of people um that we're still friends with and close with, but we were both like, okay, whatever, whoever can get a job that takes us somewhere to like a city where the other person could still work in some way, whether it's in the sport or just be able to pivot.
- 11:05SPEAKER_04: Right.
- 11:06SPEAKER_01: And so once we got Cincinnati, it was like, oh, okay.
- 11:10SPEAKER_01: And like Brian, my husband knew Nate, um, because Brian had coached at Miami a little bit while Nate was there.
- 11:15SPEAKER_01: They were both assistants.
- 11:17SPEAKER_01: So they actually knew each other before I even met Brian.
- 11:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and so when it was Nate, then Brian was like, this is good.
- 11:24SPEAKER_01: I trust him, he's a friend, and Cincinnati's a cool place.
- 11:27SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, he we both moved to Cincinnati.
- 11:31SPEAKER_01: Um, and he got out of coaching and then was trying to figure it out.
- 11:36SPEAKER_01: Like he pivoted his career, you know, in his 30s and um was in the business world and recruiting a little bit.
- 11:43SPEAKER_01: He actually even spent a little bit of time at Xavier and um like the grad assistant um admissions.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: I'm sorry, the grad admissions program, but now he is a Cincinnati police officer.
- 11:55SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 11:56SPEAKER_03: Wow.
- 11:57SPEAKER_03: So he went from a a track head coach at Ball State to a police officer in Cincinnati.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh.
- 12:03SPEAKER_03: That's pretty sweet.
- 12:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 12:05SPEAKER_03: He loves it.
- 12:06SPEAKER_03: What made him want to do that?
- 12:08SPEAKER_03: Do you just always want to do that?
- 12:09SPEAKER_01: I think he he almost went and served.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: His dad was in the army for like 23 years.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 12:14SPEAKER_01: So he was born in Germany, lived over to Germany twice, South Korea, North Korea.
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: I don't remember which one.
- 12:22SPEAKER_01: Um, but uh probably south.
- 12:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, probably not north.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, so they moved all over the country and the US as well until he was in high school.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: And so um, I think the serving piece was probably always a consideration for him.
- 12:39SPEAKER_01: And then he just likes to be active and he likes to compete.
- 12:43SPEAKER_01: And so that, you know, was like, okay, I can still kind of do those things in this career.
- 12:48SPEAKER_01: Obviously, that looks a little different than like the sporting world, but um I think the academy was like you have to hit these metrics, and he likes that kind of stuff because he was an athlete, and so it's worked out really well.
- 13:01SPEAKER_03: And when you're a track coach, it's full year basically, because you're doing cross-country, right?
- 13:07SPEAKER_03: Yes.
- 13:08SPEAKER_03: Was he the cross-country head coach and the track head coach?
- 13:11SPEAKER_03: It's all of the same.
- 13:12SPEAKER_03: And then there's winter track, isn't there?
- 13:14SPEAKER_03: That's insane.
- 13:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and that's where I think part of it was like, I I don't know if I'm gonna coach coach track the rest of my life because you're you're never off, like maybe July, because they start in the very end of July or early August, and then the national championships in June, and he was he was taking athletes to the national championship, um, because they were pretty like he had some individuals that were pretty good, and so he uh he had an assistant that was over cross country, but still, I mean, he's the one that's over the program, and so he's going to everything and all right, but he was sprints, jumps, hurdles um, was kind of his specialty.
- 13:55SPEAKER_03: The college coaching life is kind of crazy, yeah.
- 14:00SPEAKER_03: And I mean, when especially if you have a spouse that's also coaching in college, you have no idea like what's gonna happen.
- 14:10SPEAKER_03: So the Oregon women's coach, it was married to the Michigan basketball assistant coach, and there's that's just they just get it done.
- 14:20SPEAKER_03: But then he got the job at Oregon uh Oregon state.
- 14:24SPEAKER_03: Oh, and so now they're in the same state, and like it like makes a lot of it's a lot easier for them, right?
- 14:30SPEAKER_03: Yes, but it's just a different lifestyle, exactly.
- 14:34SPEAKER_03: Okay, first year and you get the girls earlier, yeah.
- 14:41SPEAKER_03: What I mean, because you it's not like you can draw back on the experience of okay, getting the girls in on July 13th, and it's not like you can like pick somebody else's brain because uh everybody's going through this for the first time anyway.
- 14:57SPEAKER_03: So how much of like are you liking that the the two two weeks, three weeks earlier?
- 15:04SPEAKER_03: Or would you rather it be like they report now?
- 15:09SPEAKER_03: Yeah, or well, not now, but like you know, August or whatever.
- 15:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:14SPEAKER_01: Well, we actually didn't even do July 14th.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: No.
- 15:18SPEAKER_03: No.
- 15:19SPEAKER_03: When'd you guys do it?
- 15:20SPEAKER_01: We did July 24th.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 15:22SPEAKER_03: So still earlier than normal, right?
- 15:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:26SPEAKER_01: Um, well, the the crazy thing to me was um the ECNL playoffs was later because of the World Cup.
- 15:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they couldn't because there's wasn't enough hotel rooms and stuff like that in Seattle, right?
- 15:40SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Mm-hmm.
- 15:41SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 15:42SPEAKER_01: So for me it was like, okay, we're gonna travel across the country to go recruit, which is a big deal, right?
- 15:48SPEAKER_01: That's the life of your program.
- 15:50SPEAKER_01: And then have to come back and start the next day.
- 15:54SPEAKER_01: Um, and so part of it too was even way back last winter and spring, it was like, yeah, I just don't think we're gonna start that early, like with Dean there.
- 16:04SPEAKER_01: Um, and we had kind of talked about that as a staff, and so I just didn't change it.
- 16:09SPEAKER_01: I just kind of left it at that.
- 16:10SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 16:11SPEAKER_01: Um I think it's great as far as the option to do it, but talking to people like right now, I'm just kind of curious, always asking coaches, Did you come early?
- 16:20SPEAKER_01: How was it?
- 16:21SPEAKER_01: Um, and people have different opinions.
- 16:25SPEAKER_01: I like the somewhere in between.
- 16:27SPEAKER_01: I don't think I don't want to go all the way at the beginning.
- 16:31SPEAKER_01: I mean, for us at Xavier, some of the stuff that we look at or talk about is it's nice to have a summer, it's nice to get a break.
- 16:39SPEAKER_01: And we like to let our girls go home, be with their family, go on vacation, get an internship, play with uh something.
- 16:46SPEAKER_03: USLW or whatever.
- 16:49SPEAKER_03: UWS.
- 16:50SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep.
- 16:51SPEAKER_01: And so we kind of embrace that.
- 16:55SPEAKER_01: And it's like, yeah, well, it would be nice to have them all together and be better with their fitness or anything like that.
- 17:02SPEAKER_01: But I guess also the culture that's been set here, and I think started with Nate just to coming in prepared and being fit, and then even to Dean, he was more on the like, you have to be prepared for soccer.
- 17:15SPEAKER_01: It's not all about fitness.
- 17:16SPEAKER_01: And so, what are you doing soccer-wise to be prepared come the end of July?
- 17:21SPEAKER_01: Because I think a lot of people are like, Oh, I have to go past this fitness test, and it's a thing.
- 17:28SPEAKER_03: Poor freshmen.
- 17:29SPEAKER_03: Yeah, because they run themselves into the ground and they forget to play.
- 17:33SPEAKER_03: And so they're not sharp in their touch or in their just decision making because they're running themselves into the ground.
- 17:42SPEAKER_03: They come they show up and they're exhausted.
- 17:44SPEAKER_03: And I think that's part of the reason why they wanted to extend it, I guess.
- 17:50SPEAKER_03: That's what some people are saying, or to get away from two-days and and and whatnot.
- 17:54SPEAKER_03: But it's also okay, and and you can talk on this because of your husband.
- 18:02SPEAKER_03: Men soccer want to go full year.
- 18:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 18:06SPEAKER_03: And it's like, how?
- 18:10SPEAKER_03: And like, do the women want to go full year?
- 18:12SPEAKER_03: And I don't think the women want to.
- 18:14SPEAKER_03: And it's like, what do we do?
- 18:18SPEAKER_03: So then that I guess that's why they threw that to the women of showing up on July 13th or for the power.
- 18:25SPEAKER_03: It's really just the power four schools that really showed up on like July 14th or 13th.
- 18:31SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 18:32SPEAKER_03: At least at least of who I've talked to.
- 18:34SPEAKER_01: Well, Miami of Ohio did, Youngstown State, like people who I'm friends with, there were still some, I think mid-majors that were able to do it.
- 18:44SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:45SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 18:46SPEAKER_03: How okay.
- 18:48SPEAKER_03: So when did you get the when did Dean get the Iowa job?
- 18:53SPEAKER_01: February, like right around Valentine's Day.
- 18:56SPEAKER_03: Were you okay?
- 18:57SPEAKER_03: When that whole thing goes on, does he tell you he's like, hey, I'm applying for Iowa?
- 19:02SPEAKER_03: Or is it just like you found out when everybody else did?
- 19:06SPEAKER_01: I knew.
- 19:08SPEAKER_01: Um I'm trying to decide like what's what can or should I share?
- 19:16SPEAKER_01: I knew a lot.
- 19:16SPEAKER_03: I'll give you full edit.
- 19:18SPEAKER_01: I knew a lot.
- 19:19SPEAKER_01: Um that's good.
- 19:22SPEAKER_03: And I think that's how it should be.
- 19:24SPEAKER_03: And keep everybody in the loop.
- 19:26SPEAKER_03: And then he you'd be like, you can come with me or get the job.
- 19:34SPEAKER_03: Was that kind of like yeah.
- 19:37SPEAKER_01: I mean, our relationship was so great as far as the the coaching relationship that him and I had.
- 19:46SPEAKER_01: Like, we would kind of talk about the like yin and yang of each other, um, which was awesome.
- 19:52SPEAKER_01: Like, I I was sitting in his office and like, I don't want you to go.
- 19:56SPEAKER_01: Like, I want you to stay here.
- 19:57SPEAKER_01: Cause I I knew I wasn't gonna go there.
- 19:59SPEAKER_01: Like, Brian was established now with Cincinnati police, and we love Cincinnati.
- 20:06SPEAKER_01: I'm from Cleveland.
- 20:07SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 20:08SPEAKER_01: We're kind of in between Georgia and Cleveland, which is his family's down south.
- 20:14SPEAKER_01: And it's honestly no offense to the rest of the Midwest, but going to Kansas and Iowa, like, are awesome schools.
- 20:23SPEAKER_01: But great opportunities, but yeah, in the middle of nowhere.
- 20:26SPEAKER_01: Yeah, we just weren't gonna do that.
- 20:29SPEAKER_01: Um and so um although I wanted that the first time to go with Nate and Ty, and then the second time to go with Dean and Noah, I um knew that for my family and like my personal life, it just wasn't gonna happen.
- 20:47SPEAKER_01: And I wasn't really so set on it that I was gonna say, Brian, can you just follow me?
- 20:53SPEAKER_01: Like, trust me, let's do this.
- 20:55SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 20:56SPEAKER_01: Um, and so yeah, at that point it was Dean telling me, like, you're ready for this, you need to go after it, and like just sharing the belief in me.
- 21:08SPEAKER_01: So I really appreciated that because he helped me, I think, a lot in believing in what I want and how I see the game and all of those things.
- 21:19SPEAKER_01: And so again, he was just super helpful.
- 21:22SPEAKER_01: And one, just being able to watch him do what he did and our kind of demeanors being similar.
- 21:27SPEAKER_01: Um, and then just how he ran things, I you know, I've stolen from him and Nate and a lot of other coaches that I've worked for too.
- 21:38SPEAKER_03: Where did you play go uh growing up in Cleveland?
- 21:41SPEAKER_03: Uh the four or Cleveland were they around?
- 21:44SPEAKER_01: Yeah, now it's force.
- 21:45SPEAKER_01: But Rob Miller, who's with Cleveland Force now, he was coaching me at it was CSA Impact out of Mentor.
- 21:52SPEAKER_01: And then it was we like combined with Oh, you're like right on the border.
- 21:56SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 21:57SPEAKER_03: Right on the border of like Pennsylvania or pretty close to Erie.
- 22:00SPEAKER_01: Yep, yep, yep.
- 22:01SPEAKER_01: And so it was we combined with O Pine North, I guess.
- 22:05SPEAKER_01: Um, and so we were CASA.
- 22:06SPEAKER_01: There was like a CASA group for Cleveland Alliance Soccer Academy for two or three years.
- 22:12SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, so Rob Miller's the one that's still around at Cleveland Force and with Everett.
- 22:17SPEAKER_01: Um and so yeah, that's I played for Rob.
- 22:23SPEAKER_03: And I mean, which how strong Ohio has always been?
- 22:27SPEAKER_03: I mean, but did you play in the days of like where ODP mattered?
- 22:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:32SPEAKER_03: North or south?
- 22:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 22:34SPEAKER_03: So you were north?
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 22:35SPEAKER_03: Ohio north or yeah, Ohio North and Ohio South.
- 22:39SPEAKER_03: I miss those days.
- 22:40SPEAKER_03: But I mean, I mean, so d uh now do you are you how do you split up your staff in terms of who goes to the GA events, who goes to ECNL events, do you all go?
- 22:52SPEAKER_03: Do you skip events?
- 22:53SPEAKER_03: I'm sure you skip events.
- 22:54SPEAKER_03: Because it's impossible to go to every single thing.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: Yep, yep.
- 22:58SPEAKER_03: So how do you organize that?
- 23:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 23:01SPEAKER_03: Was that something that you had to like learn, or did you just really kind of copy what Nate and Dean did?
- 23:07SPEAKER_01: I think I was copying a lot.
- 23:09SPEAKER_01: Um my first learning experience with that I feel went back to Ball State with Steve.
- 23:15SPEAKER_01: Um, because he I think he's a great recruiter and he just taught me a lot.
- 23:22SPEAKER_01: Um, and then when Josh Reif got there, who's now at IU, okay.
- 23:26SPEAKER_01: Um, Josh had taught me a lot too because he, I mean, he played, he had a professional career for a while, and then he was at Mississippi State and as an assistant, and then got the ball state HUD job.
- 23:38SPEAKER_01: And so once he came, um, I was with him and Rich Wall, who's at Youngstown State now.
- 23:43SPEAKER_01: So I just learned from those guys a lot.
- 23:45SPEAKER_02: And he spent a year at Mercyhurst.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Uh-huh.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 23:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 23:48SPEAKER_02: Coached a couple of my players there.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 23:50SPEAKER_01: And so, I mean, all those guys, yes, I learned from.
- 23:54SPEAKER_01: Um I think the UCNL has been a massive part of our recruiting.
- 24:01SPEAKER_01: Um I think that the Midwest is pretty easy to get to different clubs.
- 24:09SPEAKER_01: And so right now, a lot of it is okay, we're gonna go to these big events.
- 24:14SPEAKER_01: We might go three or four in a year, but otherwise, it's like, how can we get to a league game?
- 24:20SPEAKER_01: How can we get to training?
- 24:21SPEAKER_01: That's kind of more to maybe the GA.
- 24:25SPEAKER_01: Um, at least at this point, because sometimes with GA events, like I haven't been to one super recently.
- 24:33SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 24:34SPEAKER_03: Um honestly It's kind of hard to get to.
- 24:36SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 24:37SPEAKER_03: And I haven't heard the greatest things about the the NorCal one.
- 24:41SPEAKER_03: I was it Andy Stutz.
- 24:44SPEAKER_03: I think Andy Stutes was like, I am never going back to NorCal.
- 24:47SPEAKER_03: Really?
- 24:48SPEAKER_03: And he's at Ball State now.
- 24:49SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 24:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I it's like you have it has to be worth it.
- 24:55SPEAKER_01: Um, and so I hadn't heard great things either.
- 24:59SPEAKER_01: We just haven't prioritized the big events, which are would be probably the ones that should be worth it, but to try to get to now it's King's Hammer, um, indie premiere, Columbus, um like had come up for and always come up to Jags showcase hawks, yeah, stuff like that.
- 25:20SPEAKER_03: I were you there this uh I guess that was right uh as Dean was leaving, I guess.
- 25:29SPEAKER_03: Were did you come up to the Jags or the Hawks event?
- 25:32SPEAKER_03: Jags, and it's a great event because it's three fields, it's all there, and a lot of teams there.
- 25:39SPEAKER_03: I mean, Hawks were there this year because I think FC Pride had to had to bail because of the weather.
- 25:45SPEAKER_03: It was nuts.
- 25:46SPEAKER_03: I don't know how you got home.
- 25:48SPEAKER_01: I know we drove through that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_01: That's right, we drove through that.
- 25:52SPEAKER_01: Um, yeah, actually at that point in my life I can look back and I remember being in the car with Katie Smith K Mac um and just being like, am I ready to be a head coach?
- 26:05SPEAKER_01: Is this about to happen?
- 26:06SPEAKER_01: Am I like because it was everything was going on with the coaching change um with Dave and with Dean.
- 26:13SPEAKER_01: And so it I was kind of in like freak out and also excited mode.
- 26:18SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, that event's great.
- 26:20SPEAKER_01: Um, we were able to see, you know, both GA and ECNL teams, and it's always been good.
- 26:27SPEAKER_03: And it's perfect.
- 26:28SPEAKER_03: And you just can walk from field to field, and you don't have to go to an event where there's 24 fields and you don't know who's playing.
- 26:38SPEAKER_03: Like, I I like okay, so I've been to MLS Next Fest, but I haven't I haven't been to an ECNL event since I was coaching for Vardar.
- 26:47SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 26:48SPEAKER_03: So like that was like 20, whatever, 13 playoffs in Denver.
- 26:54SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 26:55SPEAKER_03: But what I like about MLS Next Fest is every single field is one age route.
- 27:03SPEAKER_03: So it might be like different levels, it might be like the pro player pathway and then the homegrown and then the academy, but it's all U19s.
- 27:11SPEAKER_03: So you know, as a college coach, you know exactly whatever age.
- 27:15SPEAKER_03: At an ECNO event, you can have like a U14 team that you can't talk to yet, and then U18 right next to it.
- 27:25SPEAKER_03: And it's like I always just wonder like what that's like and how like organized you have to be going to those events.
- 27:33SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 27:34SPEAKER_01: Well, yeah.
- 27:35SPEAKER_01: And it's funny, like thinking back to the recruiting coordinators I've worked with, um, Tyler, Smaha, Noah, Smith, and now Corey.
- 27:44SPEAKER_01: Yes, organized, andor like it's funny how each of them maybe sees things and how they want to do it, as far as hey, we're gonna hit, I'm gonna try to hit six games in this time slot, and everyone's got a different opinion on like that's too much.
- 27:59SPEAKER_01: Or no, you can do that.
- 28:01SPEAKER_01: I'd rather spend more time at a field than try to do too much.
- 28:06SPEAKER_01: Um, Noah, though, is he's got a brain that like it's really impressive what he's able to kind of do.
- 28:14SPEAKER_01: And so that's where he sees it that way.
- 28:16SPEAKER_01: Um, and he gets it to a lot of different recruits.
- 28:21SPEAKER_01: But otherwise, I would rather spend some more time at a field.
- 28:24SPEAKER_01: But it is challenging, yes, when you I mean, you end up getting so many steps in at those ECNL events because you're just all over the place.
- 28:31SPEAKER_01: But then that's where it can be helpful.
- 28:33SPEAKER_01: It's like if you have two or three people, because we'll at least try to go two.
- 28:37SPEAKER_01: I don't know that we always have to go with our whole staff.
- 28:39SPEAKER_01: If we if we can, if we can drive there, like that North Carolina one in May now, we just drive to it.
- 28:45SPEAKER_01: And so we took four people, and that's nice to like have everyone exposed to the same players and be able to have those conversations about recruits, and we were a new staff, and so I really did enjoy that.
- 28:59SPEAKER_01: Um, but no, otherwise, you have to kind of like okay, you're staying on this side of the complex today, and I'm staying over here.
- 29:09SPEAKER_01: And so that has to be very organized.
- 29:12SPEAKER_01: Otherwise, I caught myself, you know, in the spring, and even at Seattle sometimes having to go a lot of different places because then it's like, well, we have to see, or I have to see these players.
- 29:24SPEAKER_03: And so it doesn't matter, like you just gotta put in the steps and how when you're at an event, how much of the time is spent on the girls that have already been that have already committed?
- 29:39SPEAKER_04: Mm-hmm.
- 29:41SPEAKER_01: I would say if we can at least get to two out of their three games.
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Really?
- 29:45SPEAKER_02: Okay.
- 29:46SPEAKER_01: Um, I think just to show them a little bit of love, yep.
- 29:48SPEAKER_01: As much as we can.
- 29:49SPEAKER_01: And even if it's like me one day, Corey the next, and then Michaela, then we can hit all three, I think that's great.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: Right.
- 29:57SPEAKER_01: So we will we want to show them love, we wanna help and their progress towards getting to us two.
- 30:05SPEAKER_01: And um, so we'll still spend some time, but um I would also say this past year with us being new and Corey and Michaela not having recruited you know, around where we are, we needed to see a lot of the same players that we were trying to recruit in 28.
- 30:26SPEAKER_01: And so we still had some um future Xavier players there, but yeah, we didn't spend as much time.
- 30:35SPEAKER_01: And some of them we see, like ones with Ohio Elite, and so we can see her all the time.
- 30:40SPEAKER_03: How many, how many times are you guys going out to Ohio Elite or internationals or Ohio Premier games?
- 30:48SPEAKER_03: Probably it's nice to have that many, and then racing Louisville is not too far from you.
- 30:53SPEAKER_03: How far is Racing Louisville from you?
- 30:56SPEAKER_01: An hour less than 90 minutes.
- 30:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's close.
- 30:59SPEAKER_03: I didn't realize it was that close.
- 31:01SPEAKER_03: And then for some reason, Western Europe Flash from Buffalo, New York is in that conference.
- 31:06SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I have to go all the way to Tennessee.
- 31:09SPEAKER_03: Don't even give me a start on that.
- 31:11SPEAKER_03: But so two years ago, I did this for my for my training company.
- 31:17SPEAKER_03: I did this um recruiting guide, and all I did was I sent a survey out to 15 college coaches, and then all of my college players did it.
- 31:28SPEAKER_03: And what it basically boiled down to was whatever you do, the coaches want to see that player in person.
- 31:37SPEAKER_03: Have you been burned ever just relying on tape?
- 31:41SPEAKER_03: Or do you ever just rely on tape, or do you always try to get out and see them in person?
- 31:47SPEAKER_01: Ideally, always try to get out.
- 31:49SPEAKER_03: At least once.
- 31:51SPEAKER_01: But so Penny Brill is on our team from New Zealand, so we weren't gonna get out there.
- 31:57SPEAKER_01: Um, so that's an instance.
- 31:59SPEAKER_01: I think internationally that's probably the times that we would have relied on video.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 32:04SPEAKER_01: But no, otherwise, it's very much so to we gotta see them in person.
- 32:09SPEAKER_01: And I think ideally it's more than one of us sees them in person.
- 32:13SPEAKER_01: There was some Corey has gone to the FTF stuff in Canada, and so for me, I had some trust in him this past recruiting cycle of he's been doing this, and he went to Vancouver right before Seattle, before ECNL, and um got to coach top 60.
- 32:34SPEAKER_01: So there's you know, great players there, yeah.
- 32:36SPEAKER_01: Um, but I wasn't gonna see them.
- 32:38SPEAKER_01: And so at that point, I was just watching video.
- 32:41SPEAKER_01: Um and and then after he was with them, we tried to say, like, can you come to camp that we have at the very end of July?
- 32:48SPEAKER_01: And we had, I think, two of the Canadians come to camp.
- 32:53SPEAKER_01: So it's like, okay, can we utilize that to kind of get that next touch point of me being able to get eyes on them?
- 33:01SPEAKER_01: And I think that's helpful.
- 33:03SPEAKER_01: But as much as we can try to see people in person a couple of times, yeah, that's ideal.
- 33:08SPEAKER_03: I mean, now that you're the head coach, are you feeling like, okay, I need to be a mentor to these assistants uh and teaching them the ropes of recruiting?
- 33:19SPEAKER_03: Because recruiting, it does it's not like some other sports where there's one like the head coach does all the recruiting and that like football is a prime example, I feel that some of the top football coaches, they're just really good recruiters, and they're the ones that are going and visiting the kids in their own homes and stuff like that.
- 33:42SPEAKER_03: But my my nephew plays at Eastern Michigan, okay, uh, right here.
- 33:47SPEAKER_03: And for any player to sign, every single coach on staff has to like sign off on a kid or agree.
- 33:56SPEAKER_03: And I kind of love that, especially for a smaller sport like soccer, where there's only four staff members.
- 34:03SPEAKER_03: Do you do you guys, or have you ever been a part of a staff that's like that?
- 34:07SPEAKER_03: Where they ever I want every single player or every single coach to watch her and then just give me your two cents.
- 34:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 34:17SPEAKER_01: I would say who comes to my mind first would be Josh Reif at Indiana now.
- 34:23SPEAKER_01: When it was him, Rich, and I.
- 34:25SPEAKER_01: Um, I mean, again, it's easier with just three people.
- 34:28SPEAKER_01: Um, but we were we had a smaller group of um recruits just in general, right?
- 34:37SPEAKER_01: Because some people are like, here's our targets.
- 34:39SPEAKER_01: Other people like we're casting this wide net.
- 34:42SPEAKER_01: And so we did try to stay pretty targeted.
- 34:45SPEAKER_01: Um, and we were all three of us very much in the know on all the kids that were on our list, where for example, with Nate, who's an awesome recruiter as well, and then Tyler and I, um our list was bigger, and so sometimes I didn't necessarily know who Tyler was after.
- 35:09SPEAKER_01: Um, he would because he was so good at his job, like he would still educate me or find ways for me to like see them.
- 35:16SPEAKER_01: But yeah, there was a little bit more trust there overall, me to him, him to me, and from Nate to both of us.
- 35:24SPEAKER_01: Um, and so yeah, that was interesting.
- 35:27SPEAKER_01: I I I don't know which way I lean or fall.
- 35:32SPEAKER_01: At this point, I guess my thought is yes, I'm trying to help Corey and Michaela in recruiting.
- 35:39SPEAKER_01: Corey's been doing it now, and he's a couple years older than me.
- 35:43SPEAKER_01: And that's like when I hired, I was like, I want somebody that knows has been there.
- 35:47SPEAKER_02: Yep.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 35:48SPEAKER_01: And so um, you know, that was something that I thought would be really helpful for me.
- 35:55SPEAKER_01: And so Michaela, then too, goalkeeper, had an awesome career um and is a great goalkeeper coach now.
- 36:04SPEAKER_01: And so she is um getting to know a lot more of who Corey and I have found.
- 36:10SPEAKER_01: But yeah, I think Corey is like, I just have a lot of trust there.
- 36:15SPEAKER_01: And um I think as much as the three of us can be in those conversations, like, you know, we're trying to make some decisions right now on 28.
- 36:23SPEAKER_01: And this past week in the office, I'm Corey and I are going back and forth, but then Mikhail will pop her head in and we'll ask her opinion because I I care and I want to know.
- 36:32SPEAKER_01: But sometimes she's like, I don't, I don't feel like I know enough.
- 36:36SPEAKER_01: And so just if we can continue to try to all of us know, so then when it gets to like, is it this player or this player?
- 36:43SPEAKER_01: Or out of these three, like, where do they kind of tier?
- 36:46SPEAKER_01: So I would like us all to kind of know so that we can discuss and we can kind of be in like um unison as far as like, okay, this is who we want, this is where we're going.
- 36:58SPEAKER_03: How do you guys balance that out?
- 37:00SPEAKER_03: Like, you're in season, it's just starting, conference play hasn't started yet, and yet you're still recruiting.
- 37:07SPEAKER_03: Recruiting is 365.
- 37:10SPEAKER_03: How is your how is your 2027 class looking?
- 37:14SPEAKER_01: It's been good.
- 37:15SPEAKER_01: Um, we had some players committed already um with Dean.
- 37:22SPEAKER_01: One went with him.
- 37:24SPEAKER_01: Umly one?
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Two.
- 37:26SPEAKER_01: Two went with him.
- 37:28SPEAKER_01: Um we had three others stay, and then we just picked up another one.
- 37:34SPEAKER_01: So it's it's been good.
- 37:37SPEAKER_01: I think um our current sophomore class is pretty big.
- 37:42SPEAKER_01: And so um to that, the 27th class is a little bit smaller for us.
- 37:49SPEAKER_02: Got it.
- 37:50SPEAKER_01: And I think the transfer portal has been helpful in filling any gaps that we might need.
- 37:58SPEAKER_01: Um and so I don't want to recruit completely from there, but if you're looking at one or two, maybe three or four in like a whole school year for like the fall opening and then the spring opening, that's kind of it's been really helpful, I think, to us.
- 38:16SPEAKER_03: Is it to the point like if you don't utilize it, you're not like fully using all the resources that you have at your disposal, potentially?
- 38:25SPEAKER_01: Yeah, potentially.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:27SPEAKER_01: Unless you're just really good at recruiting young talent and or developing talent.
- 38:33SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 38:34SPEAKER_03: Or some people are.
- 38:35SPEAKER_03: And that's a whole other thing.
- 38:37SPEAKER_03: It's just developing and developing what you have and everything.
- 38:41SPEAKER_03: When you were the assistant, did you run like the sessions?
- 38:46SPEAKER_03: What what position did you play growing up?
- 38:48SPEAKER_01: I was a midfielder.
- 38:49SPEAKER_03: You're a midfielder?
- 38:50SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:51SPEAKER_03: Were you like a six or were you like a ten?
- 38:53SPEAKER_01: I was an eight.
- 38:54SPEAKER_03: You're an eight, box to box.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 38:56SPEAKER_03: A lot, lots of hand.
- 38:58SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_03: So like, well, the reason why I asked that is that there have been some staffs that were like you almost have like a defensive coordinator, and then you're the attack, you're the final third, you're you're the defensive third, and then you'll you'll be the middle.
- 39:12SPEAKER_03: Or you're that's your gonna be your focus.
- 39:15SPEAKER_03: When you were the assistant, like how like what was your day-to-day?
- 39:19SPEAKER_03: Did you run the sessions?
- 39:20SPEAKER_03: Because some assistants run all the training.
- 39:22SPEAKER_03: Yeah, some assistants don't run any of the training.
- 39:25SPEAKER_03: How how was that?
- 39:27SPEAKER_01: Um, when I got here at Xavier, Nate trusted Tyler and I to create and run everything.
- 39:34SPEAKER_01: So we would just go um kind of back and forth within a session, and then Nate would be kind of overarching coach.
- 39:43SPEAKER_01: Um Ty was super creative and had tons of ideas, and so I learned a lot from him.
- 39:50SPEAKER_01: Um, I think the way Nate saw training and then the way Dean saw training were pretty different as well, as far as wanting to compete, wanting it to be directional versus let's get some functional or it's okay if things are slower because we're trying to get to um something specific.
- 40:10SPEAKER_01: And so again, Dean was very trusting, and him and I, because Noah was the goalkeeper coach.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 40:15SPEAKER_01: Um so Dean and I ran training together.
- 40:19SPEAKER_01: So since I've been at Xavier, I've run a ton of training sessions, which is awesome.
- 40:24SPEAKER_01: Um, it's been a lot of fun.
- 40:26SPEAKER_01: I've started to really try a lot more and um really enjoyed it.
- 40:34SPEAKER_01: It's it's a lot of fun to be out there and like one, create the sessions and have ideas and then go out and execute.
- 40:41SPEAKER_01: And you know, some days it's like, okay, that was not any good.
- 40:43SPEAKER_01: Like that was shit, but we won't do that again.
- 40:46SPEAKER_01: Um, but then there's others that, you know, become staples within the program and things that the girls love.
- 40:53SPEAKER_01: Um, but I've been able to run a lot.
- 40:56SPEAKER_01: Honestly, even back with Josh at Ball State, him, Rich, and I got to run a ton together.
- 41:02SPEAKER_01: Um when I first started with Craig, he was pretty hands-on as far as the head coach wanting to do stuff.
- 41:09SPEAKER_01: And so Steve and I would support him.
- 41:11SPEAKER_01: But Steve was there a couple years longer than I.
- 41:14SPEAKER_01: And so I that I mean, that's that was my first job as a paid assistant.
- 41:18SPEAKER_01: And so those that year, I guess, or so that I was with Craig and Steve, um, I was learning.
- 41:26SPEAKER_01: Like I didn't know what I was doing.
- 41:27SPEAKER_01: It's gonna be a sponge, yes, yes.
- 41:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah, but I have always been trusted, so I'm really thankful for that because I didn't have to stand on the side too much and just like just be there.
- 41:41SPEAKER_03: Right.
- 41:43SPEAKER_03: And how is the transition going so far?
- 41:47SPEAKER_03: Like, are you letting the assistants run the sessions or are you they running most of it right now?
- 41:55SPEAKER_01: Um I'm letting assistants run it.
- 41:58SPEAKER_01: I don't honestly, I don't want to run it all.
- 42:00SPEAKER_01: Like, I don't want to be the only voice.
- 42:02SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 42:03SPEAKER_01: And so um we've Corey and I have collaborated a lot.
- 42:08SPEAKER_01: Michaela, I get in as much as I can.
- 42:11SPEAKER_01: So she's done some set piece stuff.
- 42:13SPEAKER_01: Even the day after um our Ohio exhibition, we were like, there's a group of players that we want to train.
- 42:22SPEAKER_01: And so I was like, Corey, let's do something for them tomorrow.
- 42:26SPEAKER_01: And he was like, I think this would be a great opportunity for Michaela to coach the field players and have them do something.
- 42:32SPEAKER_01: So all three of us went out the next day, but she was in charge.
- 42:36SPEAKER_01: Um, and it's funny, she has this clipboard that, you know, it's the clipboard that like opens up and you can um put papers and stuff inside of it.
- 42:44SPEAKER_01: She's so organized.
- 42:45SPEAKER_01: And I call her Sergeant Krasowski because she, her dad was in the Air Force and um she walks around with the clipboard when she's coaching sometimes.
- 42:54SPEAKER_01: And I just love like the way she goes about her business.
- 42:59SPEAKER_01: Um, but she ran like a pressure training session with goalkeepers and field players to just get them work and touches on the ball.
- 43:06SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, I want I want those two to coach.
- 43:10SPEAKER_01: I want them to have a voice.
- 43:11SPEAKER_01: We're all pretty different as far as um our approach or times we might be more intense or hold the girls accountable versus fun and exciting and all of that.
- 43:22SPEAKER_01: And so I want the players to feel all of that.
- 43:26SPEAKER_03: Have you ever been a part of a staff like where it's like good cop, bad cop is well like known, and it's like like sometimes sometimes it's the assistants that's the bad cop, and the head coach is the good cop.
- 43:40SPEAKER_03: Yeah, everybody thinks that it's bad cop, head coach, good cop assistant.
- 43:44SPEAKER_03: It's not always like that.
- 43:46SPEAKER_03: But so did you have you ever been part of a staff that was like that, whereas like everybody knew?
- 43:52SPEAKER_01: I think so.
- 43:53SPEAKER_01: Yeah, in some sort of way, I can like on every staff I've been on, I can think of the balance.
- 44:00SPEAKER_01: um of I guess if you want to call it power or yeah the good cup bad cop I do think to the last let's say last year to Dean and I and Noah um in K Mac I would say Dean I guess was bad cop um and he would joke or say things of like well because the girls would come to me as an assistant and the female that had been there and kind of like ask for things and he was like well they're coming to you because they want it's like the mom and yeah the mom and dad thing like are we going to mom or going to dad and so I would say yeah that you could see it a little bit last year.
- 44:43SPEAKER_01: I think same with Nate as far as his intensity um and getting on people like he holds a really high standard and I think that's why he's been so great with all of his teams um but I imagine there were people who were pretty scared of him and I was again able I was only female on staff and so I was always kind of the relationship person.
- 45:07SPEAKER_01: But like Nate's always had also really good relationships with his players so I think that he does a good job of balancing that.
- 45:16SPEAKER_01: But at Ohio State like Lori, you know they call her coach and like she is very much so in charge.
- 45:25SPEAKER_03: Uh-huh I've heard some stories from Arissa I don't know what it is now as far as as Gavin may be the bad cop um when he needs to be but uh Brian and Gavin yeah probably balance Lori in that way I guess now I've seen I've seen some people try to change like once they get to like their head coaching job or their first head coaching job they completely change who they were and it's like no just stay true to who you are and just let the chips fall where they may and just just find that voice.
- 46:00SPEAKER_03: And I think that's good of why you could have jumped at a job at a head coaching job much earlier.
- 46:08SPEAKER_03: But then but you listened to your guts and you knew you were self-aware.
- 46:13SPEAKER_03: Yeah you know and self-awareness takes time and some people jump at an opportunity that they might not be ready for and you're almost it's like on the job training or learning.
- 46:25SPEAKER_03: And it's like this could go one of two ways you know but can you go into the visualization stuff?
- 46:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah um yeah because like we talked about like what your day is like it's early and you don't kick off until 7 7 30 yeah today we're five but last week it was 7 30 you're at five today yes oh what I think it was at seven okay anyway okay sorry that's okay so you're going at 11 to the field we are going at 11 to the field um and we have we haven't done this in a while um at the program like day of game go to the field we did it at Michigan State because we um had to train on turf um thanks Jeff just kidding um I give him a hard time for that where does he make you train um uh at the IM field yeah probably so because on the other side of the football field yeah and you know I understand like their practice field them and the men had decided like no visiting teams until conference will get on it to make sure it's good for us.
- 47:35SPEAKER_01: But no so we didn't get to get on grass um and that to me was I want to get them on the grass in some sort of way and still we we just walked it we didn't even like they we weren't allowed to let a ball roll like we brought one out um the day of the game to like walk the field and they were like you can't let the ball roll and we're like okay what about we let it bounce because we were like we want to see how it bounces on the grass.
- 48:00SPEAKER_01: So that's what we were allowed to do.
- 48:02SPEAKER_01: But anyway um we went the day of the game because I wanted to see the the grass field for the girls at some point um because the whole preseason we were on turf.
- 48:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah um is that what you guys had play on at home?
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 48:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah our field used to be grass I mean we're in this sunken in this bowl and at one time it was grass but then they switched it to turf and it just probably makes the most sense for taking care of it in the Midwest and getting on it in February and all that.
- 48:29SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 48:31SPEAKER_01: But with the visualization, so we started last year a lot more into it with Father Murphy who's our athletics chaplain at Xavier and he I'm not even sure I haven't actually asked him where he got into the book or why he started on it but there's a book called The Confident Mind um by Dr.
- 48:50SPEAKER_01: Zinzer and it has a good portion of um visualization in it.
- 48:57SPEAKER_01: So you kind of start with like your highlight reel as a player and the book gears towards athletes it gears towards working professionals and like the business world and so anyone can read it and I think benefit from it.
- 49:09SPEAKER_01: But it starts with your top 10 like highlight reel.
- 49:12SPEAKER_01: So as a player as a coach as a working person it goes into then affirmations um for yourself and then it starts to get into this visualization piece um to help yourself perform.
- 49:26SPEAKER_01: And I actually I read the book this summer and you know did it from a coach's perspective.
- 49:33SPEAKER_01: And so it was really helpful to me too.
- 49:36SPEAKER_01: But with that Father Murphy has, you know, brought into the team whether someone's read the book completely and gone through all the steps or we're just gonna get to like the gist of the good stuff um you know he puts together these PowerPoints for us and he'll educate the girls you know this is what confidence is and here's where we want to get to being um in your unconscious mind versus your conscious mind and just things becoming more natural and not having to think about them.
- 50:08SPEAKER_01: And so he talks about that and like how some neural pathways work without getting too much into the science but just a basic education on it.
- 50:17SPEAKER_01: And then the PowerPoint gets into okay you're going to Michigan here's what the stadium looks like um and then he asks the team like who's been there before um if a couple of our girls have and he's like what what's it like?
- 50:31SPEAKER_01: What's it smell like?
- 50:32SPEAKER_01: What's like so many like details to just try to help the rest of the team um and he'll show it in different you know perspectives from photos it being full with fans empty um and then our coaching staff will give him athletes as far as who are we going to see on the opposing team and um little things about them.
- 50:57SPEAKER_01: It's nothing in too much detail but the minutes they've played or goals they've scored or anything like that.
- 51:04SPEAKER_01: Um and from there then we pretty much get into a sh a visualization time where it's like okay lights off find a comfortable spot um the practice of your game um seeing yourself playing the game your body and your mind don't know the difference between actually going and doing a training session versus doing it in your head.
- 51:30SPEAKER_01: And so if you can get those neural pathways doing one or the other, it's gonna help you.
- 51:36SPEAKER_01: And so that's where this is where we believe in the visualization.
- 51:40SPEAKER_01: And if you can visualize yourself being successful and doing those things, it builds those pathways and it can still make you better as a player.
- 51:51SPEAKER_01: And so he the other day he talked through it um all the way from being on the bus, locker room warm-up in the game halftime we have a a thing called a flat tire and so like something that happens in a game um for him it's it was the lights go out and in the middle of the game we have to stop.
- 52:12SPEAKER_03: And so we'll talk about a it actually happened in Michigan State last week.
- 52:15SPEAKER_01: Well that was funny that that happened the next day after we talked about it as a team it happened the next night and the girls were like did you see what happened last night?
- 52:24SPEAKER_01: So we just talk about yeah something like that happening like what's the he'll ask what's the craziest thing that's ever happened in a game so he'll ask the girls about that um and they'll give examples from their career.
- 52:35SPEAKER_01: And then we get to the second half and then the game being over and um that's kind of it we go through that whole thing and then he has the PowerPoint out laid out that he gives to the team in the group meet and then he has kind of the audio of the visualization.
- 52:54SPEAKER_01: And so he then says between now and the gang try to do it three to five more times because it's just again that that practice that training and so he's he uh you know believes in it and I think it's been really helpful.
- 53:07SPEAKER_01: Some of our girls have really latched onto it and do it individually and he has um a script for them that is very specific to the player and like what position they play or the things they do on the field or back to the affirmations or their highlight reel it'll say specifically their things.
- 53:25SPEAKER_01: And so it's really cool.
- 53:27SPEAKER_03: Did you do this as a player at all?
- 53:29SPEAKER_03: Not maybe not as organized but were you a visual person?
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 53:33SPEAKER_03: Where like so I was a goalkeeper and what I would do is I would walk the sideline before warm up and I would just think about like my best games my best saves and and I I like it works.
- 53:51SPEAKER_01: Yes.
- 53:52SPEAKER_03: Have you had any pushback from any players or like this is ridiculous.
- 53:57SPEAKER_03: Cause I'm okay so do you know Caitlyn Langino at all?
- 54:00SPEAKER_03: Yeah.
- 54:01SPEAKER_03: Grand uh Grand Valley State so she's big in the uh Enneagram test and I posted something and then some jerk was like oh hocus pocus well well like what are you this is soccer just teach soccer yeah and so I'm gonna like clip this up about visualization and that same idiot is gonna be like oh just what are you gonna do?
- 54:24SPEAKER_03: Pray about it I was like well you would shut up and just like it we're trying to like develop the best athletes and some people maybe think that it's it's ridiculous or a waste of time but other people you're telling me Michael Jordan didn't visualize?
- 54:39SPEAKER_03: Exactly yeah or the best athletes Tom Brady yep come on yep yeah what did you visualize as a coach you said that you read it and you were thinking about coaching yeah what what did you visualize?
- 54:53SPEAKER_01: Some of it was back to being a player um some of it was just my journey like believing in myself soccer wise at Miami like I was 14th in my class our class was massive I walked on I like it was just you know that of okay um being 14th in the class walking on earning a starting spot as a freshman so just that belief and like look at what you've been able to do and what you've like overcome some of it was um coaching as far as um being on the sidelines in games like specifically at Michigan State two or three years ago um with Dean and like just a switch we made and after the game like Dean telling me hey that was a really good idea and it's so simple but I felt so good when he told me that and um some of it was winning the biggest championship uh last year and hugging those seniors who had been there for four years.
- 56:00SPEAKER_01: We went to the Biggie's championship three of those four years well all four but the first three years we lost in the championship and so just being in that moment three times and then finally the fourth time securing the win and like that feeling and hugging those players.
- 56:18SPEAKER_01: So stuff like that um coaching even just at Muncie Central and those girls like they didn't know anything about soccer but they grew a love for the game and then like their love for me of like I love you coach Katie like just stuff like that that again is giving me this confidence that I am helping players or I am doing a good job.
- 56:42SPEAKER_01: So yeah and even now like I so I wrote it all down I travel with it and I I've read it before like half of our games just my highlight reel of all those moments sometimes I think about like my best halftime speeches I I there's two that come to mind.
- 57:00SPEAKER_03: One was state I uh I coach a country day regional maybe a regional final and one of my roles was I went and scouted other teams and we had a bad performance and we had a really bad performance and I go guys if anybody is in those stands scouting you guys look so beatable right now.
- 57:26SPEAKER_03: And then that like at the end of the season we ended up winning a state title that year and the head coach and a couple of the players said that that speech that saying that kind of woke us up yeah even though like we we were winning that game but we were playing terrible and then another one was it was like a U10 boys team really good.
- 57:51SPEAKER_03: A lot of them ended up playing college soccer and uh we were like a community club but then they all left for the DA but we were down like 2-0 at halftime and it was the final game and the boys were like so upset.
- 58:10SPEAKER_03: I'm like guys why are you so upset?
- 58:11SPEAKER_03: We haven't even like started playing yet we like we we are so much better and we're we're we're probably gonna come back and win we ended up coming back and winning 3-2 and it was like like that little stuff like visualization as a coach obviously have stuff as a player but as a coach I think I never think about visualization as a coach.
- 58:30SPEAKER_03: Yeah I never really thought about that.
- 58:31SPEAKER_03: Yeah yeah but I love it.
- 58:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah and I mean so like that first win on Sunday for me uh congratulations by the way thanks thank you and it was against Miami like where I played so it was just a full circle moment like wild.
- 58:50SPEAKER_01: But that next day 24 hours I mean all I could think about was all the people that had helped me to get to where I am like who coached me who supported me and I was very much so just full of gratitude.
- 59:04SPEAKER_01: And so I had reached out to a lot of people and one person in particular was my high school coach who was a female and I think that was maybe the first person that I again could see myself because of her like doing this.
- 59:20SPEAKER_01: Um and I just even thought back to some of the things she did with us or we did as a team that I think I would like to use going forward.
- 59:30SPEAKER_01: Um but yeah I've the visualization as a coach and the confident mind this summer for me like it changed my life.
- 59:39SPEAKER_01: And like I've told the girls that and trying to get them on board with doing the confident mind reading and at this point we we um do it with everyone who's new to the program and so all of our freshmen and transfers went through it this preseason and we don't say hey you have to read the whole book like he's been able to set it up as far as like it was cool he set us up with uh women's volleyball at Xavier and so we had team or we had players from our team older players who had gone through it and they were ambassadors for the young volleyball players and then volleyball had players who had gone through it and they were ambassadors for our young players.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_01: I like that and so we're mixing the teams and they didn't have to read the whole book but we went through the the important stuff and I wasn't even involved like I you know he he does it all um but I think to just even have all of our players at least get a taste of it.
- 1:00:31SPEAKER_01: And then if they want to jump in more they can.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_01: But um no one's been against it.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_01: I think if anything it's just some lean in more to it and others are like okay I'll do what you're asking me.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_01: Um and um we've even like um at the end of last season when we were really deep into it, Father Murphy just made it optional as far as like hey I'm gonna be in the like team meeting room, the conference room at the hotel whoever wants to come and do this, come on down.
- 1:01:00SPEAKER_01: And so I don't know we probably had close to half the team be involved in it.
- 1:01:05SPEAKER_01: And at that point, yeah it's up to them like what do you you should know kind of what you need or are you willing to try something new or did you try it and it's just not for you like I get it that's fine.
- 1:01:16SPEAKER_01: But just having the option now I I really like it.
- 1:01:20SPEAKER_03: How many how many uh female coaches have you had in your career?
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_01: Yeah um my high school soccer coach my high school basketball coach for one season that didn't go great um and then I had a one of my my freshman year basketball um RJV assistant she she had a huge impact on my life um otherwise I mean and then and then you worked for Lori.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_03: I worked for Lori at Dayton Dutch Lions over the summer in 2012 or 13 there was a goalkeeper coach Catherine I'm sorry if I'm missing anyone but yeah not very no not very many and why like I've been on this kick lately and partly is because of the Novi uh or the North American Soccer Expo uh I just had and I had um like a US um soccer scout on and then the director of the GA was there and it's just and for some reason like Marissa I always hired my former players and they were all women for the most part and that's like I wanted to get them involved but I didn't knowingly like I'm not like I need to get more women involved it's just that's who I hired.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: Yeah and it's like why aren't there more women do women want to coach like I don't know some do right some definitely do um or do you think that like I'm thinking about some of my players that are in college right now the ones that have graduated they are so done with the game yeah that they're ready to just move on and start their life yeah and they don't think about coming back and coaching.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah actually but now that you say that too I mean so many people have the like identity crisis when they graduate and they're like oh my gosh soccer is I'm not a soccer player anymore.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah yeah so they still stay or get involved somehow.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_01: Yep but still I think uh over the 10 years I've coached college and high school and club there's still a small fraction who are coaching but I think people are still finding ways to either play or do something but it does make me happy to see or know like in Cincinnati um there's a player I coach at Ball State who now is a high school coach and she coaches for Ohio Elite as well.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_01: So it's cool to be connected to her there.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_01: And there's been some other coaches players now coaches from Xavier um but yeah I mean I think that a lot of them are yeah kind of like I'm just ready to move on and like this this is it.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_01: We've got some girls now like Fran, one of our freshmen I see her coaching in the future um and she said that she wants to so that's exciting.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_01: But it's it's interesting some of the players who you don't think would want to and then they get to the end and they're actually like I think I'm gonna coach um this middle school team or I'm gonna do this club team and I really it makes me happy when they get involved.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_03: I have a player in Buffalo she's like I hate kids and I don't want to coach and then she started coaching she loves it.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_01: She wants to like do it full time told you yeah yeah just give it a chance yeah yeah how okay so 2027s done I think so 2028s not done yet not done yet not done yet um we're kind of in the the trenches in a positive way of like answers coming offers being finalized and when do you try to get them on campus like for the 2028s well we had some on Saturday or Sunday when uh when we played um because when we could start having them after that dead period we were at Michigan State so we missed I think those first few days but at that point I don't know if it mattered because so many people have committed this year right like the trend is way different.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_01: It's crazy how many crazy and we had we had one um I guess we had more than one at that point but the one That we got early was from Columbus, Ohio Premier, had come to camp in June, um, just knew us a lot better because of how close we were.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_01: So that was nice, but otherwise, the the others we got, I think were more to coming to camp or coming on their own.
- 1:06:20SPEAKER_01: Like I talked to a player in June, and then she was like, Yeah, I'm gonna come down with my dad and and like next week.
- 1:06:26SPEAKER_01: A Hawks player, and I was like, Oh, that's like you're interested.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: This is great.
- 1:06:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:06:31SPEAKER_01: And so yeah, it worked out.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_01: Um, but yeah, we had some on campus, and then we're working on some coming next week, um, because we host IU and um it we're getting closer.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_03: So did you get to make your schedule or was it already set?
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_01: Uh it was mostly set.
- 1:06:52SPEAKER_01: Okay.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_01: Mostly set.
- 1:06:55SPEAKER_01: Uh I think for 27 I may have made one or two changes, like an exhibition to just to a full-out game.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_01: We only paid one exhibition instead of two.
- 1:07:05SPEAKER_01: Um, but otherwise I'm working on more so 27 was kind of set in some ways as well, but I've gotten to manipulate that a little bit.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_01: And then 28's nearly wide open.
- 1:07:17SPEAKER_01: So that's been fun as well.
- 1:07:20SPEAKER_03: It's crazy, especially with like all those new rules and the five and five, and then whatever happened yesterday.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_03: Oh yeah.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_03: Did you hear about that?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_03: With like okay, 2002s no longer or 2020 uh 22s no longer have that fifth year.
- 1:07:35SPEAKER_03: So, like a girl that played in a game had to like leave the team.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: Oh, we have one.
- 1:07:42SPEAKER_03: Was that you guys?
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: No, it wasn't.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_03: Wait, we have one, so like she just it's done.
- 1:07:49SPEAKER_01: I hope not, but it seems like it.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_03: What a mess.
- 1:07:53SPEAKER_03: Yeah, what a mess.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_03: Like, there is no leadership at the head of NCAA.
- 1:08:00SPEAKER_03: It's like, why can't we just have a commissioner for every single sport so then they can just take care of their sport?
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_01: That's true.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:08:07SPEAKER_03: Like, let football have a commissioner, let men's soccer need one, and women's soccer.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_03: Don't lump it in and put it in one, just have a commissioner, have somebody leading.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_03: U.S.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_03: soccer is trying to step in and do a bunch of stuff, but it's more focused on the men.
- 1:08:21SPEAKER_03: And I'm like, please don't do what you did in 07 because in 07 they started the DA on the boys' side, and they said, our girls are good enough.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_03: And then that's what spawned the ECNL, and now we have this rift between US soccer and MLS next and ECNL, and it's like, please don't do this again with college soccer because they're gonna go to a full year for on the men's side, and on the women's side, we have the best in the world, we don't need to do anything.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_03: I know that's my rant.
- 1:08:48SPEAKER_03: I know that's who did this, but get it.
- 1:08:51SPEAKER_03: I got a gift for you.
- 1:08:52SPEAKER_03: Oh, for your staff or for you.
- 1:08:54SPEAKER_03: Okay, it is a well, it's a coaching board.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_03: This uh is a sponsor, all right.
- 1:09:00SPEAKER_03: Um, and it's pretty good stuff.
- 1:09:03SPEAKER_03: Oh, so bag, and then there's like, yep, and then obviously it's all wrapped up, but that's my sponsor, it's GoPro.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_03: And some of the you know this is cool, yeah.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_03: Thank you.
- 1:09:14SPEAKER_03: And you use it however you want.
- 1:09:16SPEAKER_03: Did you guys you guys didn't fly here?
- 1:09:18SPEAKER_01: No, no, no, no.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_01: Four-hour drive?
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_03: That's it.
- 1:09:22SPEAKER_01: Yeah, it's close, very close.
- 1:09:23SPEAKER_03: I guess you're like I'm squared up 75.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_03: I'm a little north from here, so it's like but thanks for doing this.
- 1:09:29SPEAKER_03: Thanks for taking the time.
- 1:09:31SPEAKER_01: Thanks for having me.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_03: Good luck.
- 1:09:33SPEAKER_03: I mean, and good luck.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_03: Well, trying to figure out all the new rules, but good luck today.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_03: I appreciate it.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_03: It's Michigan, and then get the visualization in.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_03: I love that.
- 1:09:43SPEAKER_03: Yeah, I hope a lot of people like open like are more open to that because I love that stuff.
- 1:09:50SPEAKER_03: And I mean, I think I don't know.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_03: I love the Enneagram that Caitlin does and uh Dianni does as well.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_03: And then like the visualization is like you're just taking care of the full athlete, and you're trying to.
- 1:10:07SPEAKER_03: I mean, obviously the chaplain has to get to know all those girls, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_03: And then through him, you might get to know a little bit more about the players as well.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_03: Yeah, and that's it's all this is, it's all about relationships.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_01: Exactly.
- 1:10:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, and I mean we did the disc, so we um did a like communication, how you think, how you approach life workshop as well with the team.
- 1:10:32SPEAKER_01: So and then I sat down with every individual and I was like, what do I need to know about you based on your disc results?
- 1:10:38SPEAKER_03: Do you know where that author is based out of?
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_01: Uh no, I don't, but I know that Fran, the player I mentioned, she like reached out to him this summer because his email is in the book.
- 1:10:48SPEAKER_03: Okay.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_03: Um I'm gonna reach out to him and try to get him on.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_03: I'm supposed to have the Enneagram guy on.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_03: And yeah.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_03: And I just love that stuff.
- 1:10:59SPEAKER_03: Just develop the the person too.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_03: You're not just developing players.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 1:11:04SPEAKER_03: And then it also do you ever have them talk about their like visualization?
- 1:11:11SPEAKER_01: With some of those individuals who um are like really on board with it, yes, because they were like, hey, listen, listen how cool this is.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_01: Um, and so yeah, a little bit.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_03: Love it.
- 1:11:23SPEAKER_03: Thanks so much.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_01: Thank you.
- 1:11:25SPEAKER_03: And we are done.
- 1:11:27SPEAKER_03: I hate soccer.
