Transcript
- 0:11[SPEAKER_02]: This is the lowest in draft strategy with me, San Francisco and it's always my special guest, Mr. Carcrantz, or A to Z sports, how are you made?
- 0:18[SPEAKER_00]: I'm doing lovely.
- 0:19[SPEAKER_00]: Congratulations on the draft book.
- 0:21[SPEAKER_00]: And it's a big weight off the shoulders.
- 0:24[SPEAKER_02]: It feels like I feel so light on the shoulders.
- 0:28[SPEAKER_02]: I could do some sleep as well.
- 0:30[SPEAKER_00]: You have like the chest is puffed up.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_00]: The eyes are a little brighter today.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_00]: So congratulations.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 0:36[SPEAKER_02]: I appreciate you so much.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_02]: We are less than seven days to go colors right.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_02]: The draft book is out.
- 0:42[SPEAKER_02]: I'll let you know at the end of the show how you can get all of it.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_02]: But let's get straight back into our position groups, because we are, as I say, less than seven days before the drafts.
- 0:49[SPEAKER_02]: Today we're doing tackles, centers, guards, and safety to round it all out.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_02]: out from there.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_02]: Let's get straight into it.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_02]: I kind of feel like Chris Burment now, and you are my male counterpart.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_02]: You've kind of got nails here as well, so I'm kind of loving that too.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_02]: Offensive Tacos, it's an interesting group.
- 1:11[SPEAKER_02]: What's your, where did you land?
- 1:12[SPEAKER_02]: What's your, your top five, my friend?
- 1:14[SPEAKER_00]: my top five offensive tackles for the 2020 six NFL draft are as follows.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_00]: Francis Maui Noah, Spencer Fano, Kate Improctor, Monro Freeling, Blake Miller, and I also have Max Ihanachore nipping closely at his heels as OT6.
- 1:34[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting.
- 1:35[SPEAKER_02]: We've got pretty much the same guys in this fight, if you know the Maui Noah one, Fano, Fano two.
- 1:40[SPEAKER_02]: He handled three freeling for and popped up at five all the start approach actually because he's such an interesting Yeah, I was expecting to go to what he's and what he does and where he plays and how he plays and
- 1:54[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not sure there's a more divisive kind of prospect, certainly on the offensive side of the ball, maybe in this draft.
- 2:01[SPEAKER_02]: What's your take on him, where would you play him and how?
- 2:07[SPEAKER_02]: Because it feels like it's been a, and we've kind of joked about it privately and and staff that it feels like it's been a bit of an almost like a media campaign about bumping up Procter and all of a sudden, he's going to go top 20 and all of a sudden, he's going to go top 50 and there's people saying he's going to go in the top 10.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_00]: Like, Steve Lindgren, they're all about keeping factor, yeah.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: The rate is a trading, yeah, exactly.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_02]: They're not taking windows or at all, they're taking key to the process.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_02]: What's your take on a the player, but then also be the sort of the slightly interesting media campaign that's kind of happened behind his name.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think some of this is like the crimson brand right where, you know, Alabama offensive linemen and their perception and I think we're going to continue to get away from that more and more as we get further and further away from the end of the saving 10 year.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_00]: But since a guy that has you talked about the the uncouchables right six foot seven three 69 with the athletic profile that he has at the stature that he is.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_00]: Now, there's some how big was he at the start of the season, how do you manage the weight to keep him in the range where that athletic profile can really prosper?
- 3:17[SPEAKER_00]: If you can get the dialed version of him as a player, holy smokes, you've got like a really electric potential impact starter on your offensive line and he's young, right?
- 3:30[SPEAKER_00]: And he's going to be 20 on draft day, so he's got that in his back pocket, too.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_00]: I understand that there's some foot speed mirror challenges that you feel like are frustrating and for his guy that's as big and as powerful and as wide of edges that he offers you, there's sometimes for some guys run through edges that are a little too lack of resistance where you get free runs through tight areas of his gravitational pull,
- 4:07[SPEAKER_00]: He just has the, the build of a player that, if you have the right plan for his management, I'm betting on the youth that he's going to be at least a functional starting offensive tackle.
- 4:21[SPEAKER_00]: And I think the ceiling is through the roof.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_02]: Where do you think the ceiling is on his draft status in terms of where he gets picked then?
- 4:31[SPEAKER_02]: Like what's the highest you.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, it's the Cleveland buzzers real, but they end up trading at a six.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: I think that for me is kind of where what do they go back to 12 with Dallas do they go back to 13 with the Rams because the Rams want to make a splash.
- 4:50[SPEAKER_00]: If not Cleveland, if Cleveland is out, then I think the ceiling would potentially be Detroit at 17.
- 5:00[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like he's their cup of tea.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_02]: Go back to the speaking of which.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_02]: Cheers.
- 5:06[SPEAKER_02]: I'm doing you.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think, and bizarrely, I think the pandemic changed the way that we view time, because 2020 seems like years ago, like, and it also lost years ago, but it feels like a lot longer ago than it was, because I think of the way that the world was level.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_02]: Do you think that we were having the same conversations about Macayne Beckton back in 2020 that we're kind of having now about Hayden Proctor in terms of he could be this, he might just end up being this.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: partially.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: I felt like Proctor's been back in with such a
- 5:47[SPEAKER_00]: emergence, the year that he came out, it was a whole piece of mugs, right?
- 5:52[SPEAKER_00]: Where like Proctor's kind of, he's been on the radar, he, he feels a little less out of left field as far as like the bud that's been there, where Beckton was very much, I remember the first time Daniel Jeremiah put out a draft.
- 6:08[SPEAKER_00]: Top 50 that year in Beckton was at that place where your, your eyes fell out of your head and you said, there's no way like, oh my God, he's got
- 6:17[SPEAKER_00]: So I think some of the parallels are very evident, and those are very legitimate concerns to have.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_00]: But Proctor being just 20 years old on draft day and having a little bit more pedigree, I think gives me some extra comfort, I suppose.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's fair.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: It kinda sure is a very interesting player, as well as the obviously born in,
- 6:41[SPEAKER_02]: Morning Nigeria.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_02]: Soccer kids didn't play football at all until 2021.
- 6:46[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't start a game until 2022.
- 6:48[SPEAKER_02]: And here we are now four years later, and we're talking about him being the first round.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: And yet, the tape is intriguing.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: There are so many kind of physical traits, the foot speed, the use of movement up the arc, never really create and short corners, that makes him such an intriguing prospect.
- 7:03[SPEAKER_02]: It would be a kind of a story if he ended up in round one, wouldn't it give him where he started and where he is now?
- 7:09[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_00]: And man, it's hard to forget what the last two days the senior bull look like.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_00]: And I understand that that's part of that challenge is, you know, that that's not game tape right that's practice and it is a different setting.
- 7:24[SPEAKER_00]: But you see the role.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_00]: athleticism that he provides and it's like, yeah, we're just figuring out how to use our body.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_00]: So, he's somebody for me that if you tell me he lands in a place where he has to play straight away, I'm a little bit more worried about his development because then he's going to start chasing corrective reps.
- 7:50[SPEAKER_00]: But if he goes to a place like,
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: Philadelphia to be the three behind Lane Johnson and then as the successor there and you can give him a little bit of grace and run way with with the development kind of the the Patrick Paul thing Miami behind Toronto Armstead for a year right like that kind of
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm going to get to you, but just before we move on, who really intrigues me, because I don't think there's a more disrespectful system on the word, but it just feels like there's lots of people in the certainly the social media sphere, and I'm talking about fans rather than media people who feel like Spencer Farno is, he's not, you know, I had this conversation with Omar Kelly this week, he's not half, he's not this, he's not
- 8:49[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't move people, he's not a bully, he's not, and I put together like a 20-clip reel and send it to I was just like just him actually killing people in the wrong game, taking people to the ground, just mulling people, just walking people towards the bench, all of those sorts of things and regard that when the outland who was a left house, very serviceable left tackle 11 starts there, 24 at right tackle all American big 12 offensive line of the year, you just see what he does, the kind of
- 9:16[SPEAKER_02]: easy work because in past pro and yet I get that he probably needs to have a little way and sometimes he's really straining at the anchor at the kind of end of it as a past rush route to nullify rushes but go back and look at the combine.
- 9:28[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know it's guys in short so I have just the movement in those combine drills in terms of how you moved on that field was just different to anybody else that was out there.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: He's a good player
- 9:45[SPEAKER_00]: Francis Maui Noa and Kate and Proctor, your ability to move people in first gear when you've just got a base block and you're trying to move somebody and create a softer edge or get push off the line of scrimmage.
- 10:00[SPEAKER_00]: It's not really his game, right?
- 10:01[SPEAKER_00]: Like that.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: So yes, I would agree with if you're looking for a point eight to point be displacement blocker.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: he's not going to be up at the top of the conversation for the first round off into tackles.
- 10:14[SPEAKER_00]: But when you let him play forward and you let him kind of take tracks like zone tracks and then bring momentum into blocks, you see a lot of violence, you do see a lot of violence, you do see a really likable demeanor and
- 10:35[SPEAKER_00]: But he doesn't have, he's violent, but he's not raw power for me.
- 10:43[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm okay with that.
- 10:45[SPEAKER_00]: I've made peace with that.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_00]: You know, if you're, if you just want to,
- 10:49[SPEAKER_00]: get up in three yards and a cloud of dust it like you're probably not going to run behind them a whole lot in short yardage and expect them to move a 290 pound 4i that's on his inside shoulder like that's not really where he wins.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: But that doesn't mean that he's not a violent or or physical player.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_00]: It's yeah.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_00]: And I would like to see him add some mass because I think
- 11:18[SPEAKER_00]: There's diminishing returns on how athletic he is that if you put 10 pounds on him and he was 90% as dynamic he is now, he's still going to be a top 10 dynamic.
- 11:30[SPEAKER_00]: Tackle in the league when he develops.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_00]: So that's kind of how I see Spencer Fano.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, and just on the move, isn't it?
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: It's just like on those wide-zone rounds and getting outside and just in space, and all those things that I just think you're, is pretty compelling.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_02]: What, who's your, have you got a sleeper in this class?
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: Is there a guy you like, kind of, not in that first round mix?
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I haven't I haven't a chance to check out your your ranks yet.
- 11:54[SPEAKER_00]: But Travis Burke is it for me from Memphis.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_00]: I really like the you want to talk about a guy that kind of plays with an edge and plays with some nasty.
- 12:06[SPEAKER_00]: Burke is six foot eight.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: Three hundred twenty five pounds.
- 12:11[SPEAKER_00]: Rough around the edges from a technique perspective, but just the overwhelming gravitational pull that he has for a player of his stature and how athletic he is when he is getting connected to defenders in space and bearing down on people and some of the movement that he creates.
- 12:31[SPEAKER_00]: I really like that as like the Jalen Travis comp from last year, who went to the cults in the fourth round, like I kind of see him in a similar light.
- 12:44[SPEAKER_00]: And if you told me a year from now, hey Travis Burke had to play 400 snaps and it looked pretty good.
- 12:50[SPEAKER_00]: We think he's going to be our right tackle this year.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_00]: I'd be like, yeah, it checks out like I totally get it, because that's kind of how it played out for Jalen Travis.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he's violent guy and a violent finisher and I really think for me that concerned me a little bit was that he there were already 3,000 snaps under his belt.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 13:07[SPEAKER_02]: And there were some things that I just thought, you know, you're still doing this after 3,000 snaps, you know, and I get that, you know, you're trying to coach 120 guys on 90 or guys on whatever and it's, you're not getting the kind of a coaching that you're going to get in the NFL level.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_02]: I totally get that.
- 13:22[SPEAKER_02]: I think you chase his contact a little bit too much.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_02]: I think he drops his head into
- 13:26[SPEAKER_02]: But like, I mean, you know, six, eight, what was he, six, eight, six, three, 25, the arm length is ridiculous.
- 13:34[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm trying to look at it now and I can't see it.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_00]: Almost 35s.
- 13:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, 34 and a quarter inch arm is just, you know, here the RAS score of 9.05 that there's a lot, you know, he says he watches a lot of Spencer Brown and the physical profile, I think fits.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I think then he's quite as athletic, but yeah, he's a, I thought Burke was an interesting guy.
- 13:54[SPEAKER_02]: He's been a lot of
- 13:56[SPEAKER_02]: a lot of 30 for it as well.
- 13:57[SPEAKER_02]: The guy I liked was Diego Pounds, but I thought played quite a lot, and did a lot of decent work, especially down the stretch of the Ole Miss Rug.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he held up pretty well against the Miami pair, and he's athletic in 856, Rascore at 605-5337.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_02]: And actually, I thought he, yeah, it's been a message or I thought he did, he did pretty well, if he was excellent against Georgia.
- 14:23[SPEAKER_02]: I thought his tape against Dylan Stewart was really excellent.
- 14:27[SPEAKER_02]: You look at, you know, a guy like Stewart along with Colin Simmons next year will be right up there.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, I just think there's some fundamentals there, which are, which are encouraging, there's a bit of
- 14:38[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's a bit of reaching, there's a bit of waste bending, there's a bit of head ducking, but actually, it's just a massive human.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_02]: But apparently, you know, it's a guy like back, but it's sort of diving board and the slatthletters isn't there.
- 14:47[SPEAKER_02]: Like, I quite like, I think that's sort of four fifths around area.
- 14:51[SPEAKER_02]: Um, I think it might be quite a valuable kind of guy who would probably play both sides, maybe move inside the inside the guard, where it's speaking of guards, what's your, what's your top five guards?
- 15:02[SPEAKER_00]: The guard, pecking order.
- 15:05[SPEAKER_00]: Sorry, I have all interior offensive linemen together.
- 15:07[SPEAKER_00]: So, okay.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_00]: I'm going to count them out.
- 15:10[SPEAKER_00]: I'll use one hand.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_00]: I should be able to get the five.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_00]: Okay.
- 15:13[SPEAKER_00]: All of I beg you.
- 15:14[SPEAKER_00]: You want a guard Penn State is number one.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_00]: He's top eight player in the class.
- 15:18[SPEAKER_00]: For me, Chase Besantis is number two.
- 15:22[SPEAKER_00]: For me, Jalen Farmer, Kentucky is number three.
- 15:26[SPEAKER_00]: For me,
- 15:32[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, let's just get it out of the way, let's get done throughout the way first.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_02]: Because, I mean, I've said this before.
- 15:41[SPEAKER_02]: I think his name was like Matt Smith and he had a skin head, like nobody, but he would care.
- 15:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I'm being facetious, but like some of the tape I just didn't like the Wisconsin
- 16:01[SPEAKER_02]: rated for the book, and I just really struggled with it.
- 16:04[SPEAKER_02]: And then somebody said, I've just, if you watch so-and-so, and I went back and watched a couple of games, and I just, I just didn't get it.
- 16:08[SPEAKER_02]: And maybe it's just me.
- 16:10[SPEAKER_02]: We all get a kind of a, you know, third eye blind, over certain players.
- 16:16[SPEAKER_02]: And that may be done, because just the guy that I just don't get, but yeah, what did you, what did you like about it, and that, you know, and I, and I get that there's a physical nature, and there's a, I just, yeah, I just had a hard time with it.
- 16:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think he's probably, I feel better knowing that he's guard, I can't play tackle.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_00]: No, I'm like, it's a non, non starter, right?
- 16:37[SPEAKER_00]: No, I think if you put him in a situation where he's got bumpers on either side of them, and I think he was probably a little,
- 16:48[SPEAKER_00]: miscast in that Iowa scheme, which is ironic because so many guys get like very well developed to play, but I think if he's a guard that does have the punch power that he has, where he's not working so
- 17:06[SPEAKER_00]: outside zone track if he can work a little bit more predominantly inside zone and gap scheme track.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can present some wide edges where I think some of the foot speed stuff gets mitigated.
- 17:20[SPEAKER_00]: He does have a really likable toughness about him.
- 17:23[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm projecting him to the polar
- 17:28[SPEAKER_00]: that he wasn't Iowa where he's a guard not a tackle in an inside zone heavy scheme as compared to an outside zone heavy scheme.
- 17:36[SPEAKER_00]: But I think if if you get the stars aligned in that regard, I do think he can be a sufficient level starter as he develops.
- 17:42[SPEAKER_02]: He does not a TV trial.
- 17:45[SPEAKER_00]: Good.
- 17:46[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I just can't be friends with somebody that doesn't know TV.
- 17:49[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sorry.
- 17:50[SPEAKER_00]: But it's too busy grinding, grinding tape on his iPad.
- 17:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, there's no voice on TV.
- 17:57[SPEAKER_02]: He's a multi-year winner of the beef days hay bail toss, so maybe he's just too busy chucking bail as around his back door.
- 18:04[SPEAKER_02]: who knows, the injury staff worries me with him as well.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_02]: There was a big sessmoid break in high school.
- 18:10[SPEAKER_02]: He had some leg issues in 23.
- 18:11[SPEAKER_02]: He missed a big ten-chamishic game.
- 18:13[SPEAKER_02]: He underwent shoulder surgery in 24.
- 18:14[SPEAKER_02]: He missed two games at season with a knee injury.
- 18:17[SPEAKER_02]: He had surgery last year to address an ankle problem from the spring that required some cartridge work and cleaning.
- 18:22[SPEAKER_02]: Left the USC game early with a lower body issues.
- 18:24[SPEAKER_02]: The room is he had surgery at the end of the season as well.
- 18:27[SPEAKER_02]: That is going to, that will worry teams a little bit, won't it?
- 18:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 18:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think it's, he's not a player without risk.
- 18:36[SPEAKER_00]: I have everybody for my guard ranks.
- 18:40[SPEAKER_00]: I have Yohane as a top player.
- 18:43[SPEAKER_00]: I have Basantus at 44 with a second round grade.
- 18:46[SPEAKER_00]: Everybody else is three for me.
- 18:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I think it's like a significant drop after the top two guys.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a slightly different, and there's one kind of a mission from your group that's higher in mind.
- 18:58[SPEAKER_02]: So I've got you on at one.
- 18:59[SPEAKER_02]: I've got a manual pregnant on it too.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_00]: Yep.
- 19:01[SPEAKER_02]: It's on to three.
- 19:02[SPEAKER_02]: Farmer at four.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: And then a and then Q and Rutledge at five.
- 19:06[SPEAKER_02]: And I get to Rutledge and a sec.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: Interesting that pregnant on is higher in mind and doesn't feature on yours in terms of how what was your takeaway of the Oregon garden.
- 19:16[SPEAKER_00]: So a little bit older, right?
- 19:18[SPEAKER_00]: So a little older prospect.
- 19:20[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think there's any position flex there for him.
- 19:22[SPEAKER_00]: And I just thought he was a little linear, right?
- 19:24[SPEAKER_00]: And that was kind of the same thing with Dunker.
- 19:27[SPEAKER_00]: The difference was, I think they're both linear athletes was some good length and good punch power.
- 19:33[SPEAKER_00]: And they graded within a quarter point to be each other on a hard point scale for me.
- 19:36[SPEAKER_00]: So...
- 19:37[SPEAKER_00]: It was just kind of like that, that body type slash lack of flex slash, I like what your toughness, your physicality, your your ability to kind of road grade a little bit at the point of attack, but
- 20:05[SPEAKER_00]: ability to work off the first level with consistency.
- 20:08[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he kind of ended up getting over extended and chasing a lot of stuff once he had to work into space a little bit more.
- 20:14[SPEAKER_00]: And then if he had color that flashed, I thought there were sometimes where he kind of just stayed on his hips and turned and as compared to actually moving and getting framed on guys.
- 20:26[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I can't think that I saw anybody with bigger hands than him.
- 20:29[SPEAKER_02]: I think 11 and 18
- 20:33[SPEAKER_02]: big old plates of meat there.
- 20:35[SPEAKER_02]: And Rutledge is the other guy before we go to break because I've seen Daniel Jeremiah the other day talking about hearing talk about Rutledge getting into the first round, that bottom end of the first round, 2009, 100 snaps just a guy that just wants to finish people in the dirt, the whole time and and obviously he didn't feature him in in your top five.
- 20:53[SPEAKER_02]: Where did you because the thing that
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: I, there was lots I thought to like about what he did, but to me, there was some really quick, really ugly losses on his tape, you know, the worried me, you know, straight up, you know, not even, these are hands or, you know, no hands or whiffs, leaning at the waist, guys going past that kind of thing that was just so bizarre when you when you see some of the other stuff that he does, that kind of more or less staff at the hands that can kind of pry open,
- 21:20[SPEAKER_02]: and displace all of those things and then suddenly it's just like whoa what happened there it like somebody replaced him for a snap we didn't know it's still the same guy
- 21:27[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and that that was a senior bull too.
- 21:29[SPEAKER_00]: So I was probably a little jaded by that.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_00]: That was my first like in depth exposure.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_00]: I had seen enough Georgia tech to be like, hey, this is a nice little player feels like there's some like a nice mid round target at guard.
- 21:44[SPEAKER_00]: And I finished with a third round rate on him.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_00]: I haven't in my top 100, but the losses are so jarring when they happen.
- 21:53[SPEAKER_00]: And then you see and he gets locked in, but I don't think he's anywhere near as good of a functional athlete as what he tested.
- 22:02[SPEAKER_00]: He's one of those guys for me that there was a disassociation between how I functionally thought he was as a tester.
- 22:10[SPEAKER_00]: and some of the stiffness and some, some of those early losses felt like they were just like lateral ability to slide and get in front of guys.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:20[SPEAKER_00]: And that really threw me off as far as really buying high now.
- 22:24[SPEAKER_00]: I think he can be a sufficient level starter in the NFL.
- 22:28[SPEAKER_00]: He's top 100.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_00]: I've got a handful of centers in this block.
- 22:32[SPEAKER_00]: So he's like a top eight guard for me top seven guard for me I'm really surprised now haven't I haven't watched him since February But I'm very surprised to hear that the first round buzz is there unless there's somebody who just got completely blown away by His interviews and they think that he's got a starter skill set at the back end of the first round
- 22:54[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'm not sure I saw the first round thing either, but I did think I always think it's an extremely DJ start saying stuff and you're like, okay, that because that's obviously come from a place that not just his own, you know, because of his connections in the league, who was your, who was your sleeper guy, who did you have a somebody under the radar that you quite liked?
- 23:12[SPEAKER_00]: I liked Jeremiah Raid from Auburn.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_02]: and read to, he's my sleeper guy too.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_00]: He's a nasty animal for me.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god.
- 23:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's...
- 23:22[SPEAKER_02]: I was watching him, and I literally sent... To our frontist to create, I literally sent like... Have you seen this dude, like, he's... You can's Georgia, I mean, these kind of...
- 23:33[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you had Miller in there, but you also had this kind of those five-star freshman at the time, Griffin and Jordan Hall.
- 23:40[SPEAKER_02]: They're just picking guys up and just messing around and shoving them over like, he's an asshole.
- 23:45[SPEAKER_02]: Oh my god, it was unreal.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_02]: Who is this guy?
- 23:48[SPEAKER_02]: Sensational stuff.
- 23:49[SPEAKER_00]: I have an early five on him.
- 23:51[SPEAKER_00]: He's kind of
- 23:54[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's got great range, but man, the play style and the dirty work and the toughness and the enforcer mentality in the middle.
- 24:05[SPEAKER_00]: I got him around one 40 on my board just just to put a number on instead of a round bucket, so I think he's an early day three guy and I think he's got a great chance to be a starter.
- 24:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I did too.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_02]: I watched the Georgia game first.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_02]: I was like, okay, maybe this is just a normal lesson.
- 24:22[SPEAKER_02]: It was just one of those games.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_02]: You put on the Florida tape and there is it's K The Anxony lag.
- 24:27[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, you're doing work here.
- 24:29[SPEAKER_02]: Let's have a look at Michigan and there's racial Benny and you know, it's like, no, he's, he's, he's my huge.
- 24:37[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 24:38[SPEAKER_02]: And as a dry blocker, I said it in the book, it's like sometimes it's like watching a snowplow pushing slush, you just, yeah, just talking guys.
- 24:46[SPEAKER_02]: And I think it's a great finish, and you mentioned Travis Burke earlier on who I think is probably the best finish during the class potentially.
- 24:52[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I just think he was so, so much fun.
- 24:54[SPEAKER_02]: I've just thought he was so much fun.
- 24:55[SPEAKER_02]: And yeah, he's a little bit stiff and he's on the move and the natural ability isn't amazing, but just
- 25:00[SPEAKER_02]: The talk guys and just chef like what she big three hundred and ten pound guys like being shoved seven or eight yards was I mean, I'm I'm absolutely here for that.
- 25:09[SPEAKER_02]: I thought it was just Yeah, he's a he's a good player.
- 25:12[SPEAKER_02]: He's a fun guy right want to tell you about mold core environment They are satisfied as trusted molded especially in inspection experts if you're home or office smells musty
- 25:21[SPEAKER_02]: We worry about what might be hiding behind the walls and mould cork in real answers.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_02]: No scare tactics and no guess what, with over 15 years of experience, they're fully licensed and insured, serving everywhere from the keys right up to tower housing, because the only thing that should be growing in South Florida is playoff hopes.
- 25:37[SPEAKER_02]: The mould testing in contrast called mould court environmental at 9FF4709,
- 25:42[SPEAKER_02]: to double 9-8.
- 25:43[SPEAKER_02]: That's mole-core environmental at 9-5-4709-299-8.
- 25:47[SPEAKER_02]: Let's go and pay some more bills.
- 25:56[SPEAKER_02]: Welcome back to the lower end of our show with me, Simon Kancy, and I'm a good friend, Karl Krabson, A.T.S.
- 26:01[SPEAKER_02]: Sportcar.
- 26:02[SPEAKER_02]: We've done girls, we've done tackles, just leaves centers, who we are in an really interesting group.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_02]: And I think actually the most disparate group in terms of everybody seems to you look at like, Mel Kipers or you look at,
- 26:15[SPEAKER_02]: Matt Miller's or Dean Brugler's or Daniel Gerard, like everybody has completely different guys.
- 26:20[SPEAKER_02]: Where did you end up with this collective?
- 26:23[SPEAKER_02]: Cause I think we've been pretty close on most of it as bi suspect, maybe we'll be, maybe not, but we'll see we're end up, but might have some differences here.
- 26:30[SPEAKER_00]: Can I cheat and double them and put Spencer Fano?
- 26:33[SPEAKER_02]: you can.
- 26:35[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he's tackled to you could very easily convince me his most prolific landing spot is at center with the athletic profile.
- 26:45[SPEAKER_00]: We talked about the need to add a little bit of mass and that displacement ability.
- 26:49[SPEAKER_00]: But if you if you take it and put it at center,
- 26:52[SPEAKER_00]: Holy smokes.
- 26:53[SPEAKER_00]: I think he could be a really, really special player there.
- 26:57[SPEAKER_00]: So I want to acknowledge that before I get into the true centers and some tackle converts to center.
- 27:03[SPEAKER_00]: I've same hectic next in line for me from Kansas State.
- 27:07[SPEAKER_00]: Connor Liu coming off the injury from Auburn at number two slash three Brian Parker from Duke would be my next center Logan Jones Iowa and then if we're not including Spencer Spenser Fano then Jake slaughter would be center five
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: interesting.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: So I'm at hex one.
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: I don't let Fano as he was, but and this is, this is just for my mid-offence fans, but that's why that's part of the reason I believe Fano will be, if he's on the board or be the dolphin speaker 11 or less, I think dramatic happens with somebody falling or whatever, just because of that green-bay kind of versatility, that would be a conversation for another day,
- 27:44[SPEAKER_02]: I actually have Parker Browns for that too.
- 27:47[SPEAKER_02]: I want to do it three.
- 27:50[SPEAKER_02]: The Golding Kid, Matt Golding from Michigan State of 4.
- 27:55[SPEAKER_02]: Okay, I thought his tape was really excellent.
- 27:59[SPEAKER_02]: And then, yeah, you get Burton, or Jagger Burton, if Kentucky had, as my fifth guy was slaughter at six and Jones at seven and then Parker behind that.
- 28:08[SPEAKER_02]: So, everybody's kind of in that same area.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: It's just interesting how people have got in.
- 28:13[SPEAKER_00]: What grades did you end up for like those what what did center three and what did center seven have for grades because they were very, very close for me.
- 28:21[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, you see I don't do exactly what you I just I just don't more days rather than actually so what.
- 28:30[SPEAKER_02]: and I don't think any of them got in the top 15 and I'm just a little hacked.
- 28:34[SPEAKER_02]: No, didn't get in the top 50.
- 28:37[SPEAKER_02]: So I had hacked, I came off the board, late second, early third.
- 28:43[SPEAKER_02]: I said, Royalsford, late on day two potentially, Lou as a sound investment late on day two, but could have been higher with the without the knee.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_02]: goal being early day three, burn fourth round, slaughter, I said slaughter would be a higher than I have been, I said I thought he's a late four or five.
- 29:06[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah.
- 29:07[SPEAKER_02]: There's not, there's not a huge amount of difference back.
- 29:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought Haked was comfortably the best center.
- 29:13[SPEAKER_02]: I found Braylesford's tape really, I get that he's like, you know, he's really, like, but I thought he's tape was really, really good.
- 29:21[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that he, again, much like when we talked just a minute ago about Jeremiah Wright, you know, I went a look, you look, the games I watched with him were Chris McClellan, Missouri, Grayson Houghton, a vocal Homer,
- 29:33[SPEAKER_02]: and Christopher Miller a Georgia, because I wanted to see the different styles holding the twitched up guy, and then Miller and McCollum being the bigger guys that they are.
- 29:42[SPEAKER_02]: And actually, you know, I just thought he just was a really good player, and I get that he's, you know, 617-29, but I also support a team that has a centre that was £270 his brother, albeit I get that he now plays in the 290s, and I'm not saying that Parker Brousford isn't, you know,
- 30:01[SPEAKER_02]: He's going to be a one-brother, but I just think he's extremely strong.
- 30:07[SPEAKER_02]: Number 20 on Bruce Feldman's Freaks List, stand out, wait, left the power train 385.
- 30:11[SPEAKER_02]: I scored 675 and I think that strength shows up on tape, actually, you know, any tough on his athletic, any smart, and he's nasty, and he plays with good technique, and he drops his hips.
- 30:21[SPEAKER_02]: He's very, very work of a point, I just thought he was a, you know, I thought he had
- 30:31[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, um, what did you, what did you, did you ask me a question there and I just went off on a tangent because if you did that No, it's just kind of how closely they were a bucket in it.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think they're all pretty close And I think Lou probably could have been the guy that was you know if he doesn't tell the ACLL in the season I think he was there He's the he interesting guy although I did think that he was still a little bit raw, but again, you know
- 30:55[SPEAKER_02]: Christian Miller stuff is decent tape and he was a left tackle, wasn't it?
- 31:00[SPEAKER_02]: He was a left tackling high school, moved to center towards towards the end of the run there in high school and you know he's got some his arms are a bit short, I think he's very thinches but
- 31:11[SPEAKER_02]: You know, I think he's a kind of a guy that somebody picked and you know, next is a Mulligan for him really in many regards because you know, he's not going to start early on the season, but in terms of long term and again he's only 20, 21 and he's 40, I'll be 20 a year.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_02]: He's just somebody that you can store away for a team that's, you know, doesn't need to fill the need to play him early and yeah, I like to stay.
- 31:36[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, and, and I think with Lou to, he at least has a body type.
- 31:41[SPEAKER_00]: You could project a playing at guard.
- 31:43[SPEAKER_00]: Like some of these like braels for you mentioned, and I agree with you, wholeheartedly that's outside zone heavy skiing, can play center.
- 31:52[SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think you could play a MacGuard at his Statue in 289, right?
- 31:56[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so Louis B. and 6.3 and a half, 3.10, I at least have a physical component and a stature component that I should have some flags here, and I don't, I don't feel that about a number of these guys, but I do feel that with Louis, so I think that gives him
- 32:14[SPEAKER_00]: some more appeal where Brailsford, for me, I had as a sixth round.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_00]: For instance, like a five, six valuation, but a lot of that was because he's not position flex and he's not skiing flex.
- 32:27[SPEAKER_00]: So it's like, okay, we've got a very narrow scope for a devalued position for how you have success because you're more of a niche prospect, you just naturally don't grade quite as well for me, but I see him very similarly to how you do.
- 32:41[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 32:42[SPEAKER_02]: The two guys that kind of have flitted up and down on other people's lists at a Jones and Slorter.
- 32:50[SPEAKER_02]: What was your take on?
- 32:52[SPEAKER_02]: Because I
- 32:54[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe I am biting memory and obviously I watched the last year, but I couldn't get out my head the Walter Nolan game last year in terms of slaughter against Old Miss and just how he just couldn't handle.
- 33:05[SPEAKER_02]: And that's not a, you know, no one's an outstanding player who's very high well, very high grade on my board last year, but
- 33:12[SPEAKER_02]: I was just a little bit unable to get that out of my head, I think, but you know, some, there's clearly some people that have him as the number one center and what was your kind of takeaway on slaughter?
- 33:27[SPEAKER_00]: I don't love the build right just to be honest 6 foot 5 303 that's an awkward combination of lack of leverage and lean frame and that scares me for centers you know that that's something that
- 33:44[SPEAKER_00]: You're inviting a lot of guys because you don't get the you don't get to use two hands at the same time like everybody else does right you only got one hand a punch with instead.
- 33:53[SPEAKER_00]: So your leverage better be on point because if you get rock back like now you're in a position where you have to recover in at 303 I just don't think he has the mass to to do that with consistency.
- 34:06[SPEAKER_00]: So either there's got to be a composition, body composition change, or you just have a lot more narrow scope for your technique to be able to execute.
- 34:16[SPEAKER_00]: And that's kind of where I had the hold up that prevent me from sliding in higher than I did as a day three guy.
- 34:21[SPEAKER_02]: So then comparatively, because we both have Hector 1 and all those exactly the same.
- 34:26[SPEAKER_02]: So 6x4, 1 for 7 for slaughter, both 303.
- 34:31[SPEAKER_02]: How did you feel about the minimal disparity in weight?
- 34:37[SPEAKER_02]: These are the how Hector plays versus how slaughter plays.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think Hector showcases a little bit more
- 34:48[SPEAKER_00]: leverage consistency, and that was, he didn't place like he was six, I think slaughter plays, let me say it this way, slaughter plays like he's six foot five.
- 35:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 35:03[SPEAKER_00]: I don't think heck plays like he's six foot four.
- 35:06[SPEAKER_00]: no, I agree.
- 35:07[SPEAKER_00]: So that was the big difference for me was the leverage and how how you're able to bend your lower body to to get your center of mass down, both at first contact coming out of your stance and when you're catching stuff.
- 35:22[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, compared to slaughter.
- 35:24[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought the snap to me boobin as well for Haked was outstanding and you took about what you just said about the bend and the knee bend.
- 35:32[SPEAKER_02]: The Dominic Orange tape, I think, against Iowa State, it really highlights that I just thought just how technical he was.
- 35:40[SPEAKER_02]: And also, you know, that ability just to get up and the same with Braille, so that the ability to snap and then get used that speed, the snap to movement speed to get up onto the outside shoulder in outside zoning and get your hand on that outside shoulder or the three technique and to bring your hips through contact.
- 35:58[SPEAKER_02]: And then some of the movement stuff, the heck, I just was like, you know, there's a couple of snaps kids per do where I was just like, wow, there's this, this dude can really move.
- 36:05[SPEAKER_02]: Who was your, who was your sleeper in this group, who wanted you end up with?
- 36:08[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I had I only ended up doing 10 cent or so I didn't get super deep.
- 36:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, your burden was the guy who didn't grade super hard high.
- 36:17[SPEAKER_00]: He was like, graded very similar little brails for it as a fringe five six that I really liked and I'm like, I could see.
- 36:25[SPEAKER_00]: he's you know he's a bigger guy from amongst this center class.
- 36:30[SPEAKER_00]: I like the way that he with two mollers next to him at guard so full disclosure on that part.
- 36:38[SPEAKER_00]: I thought he had a nice presence and and physicality about him at center.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 36:45[SPEAKER_02]: I remember for Betchy we were of Oklahoma, who I know has been a guard.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 36:49[SPEAKER_02]: But it was asked to move and pay it center in the at Shrine Week.
- 36:58[SPEAKER_02]: We're ended up within the Patel Mall Award for a run.
- 37:02[SPEAKER_02]: a sportsmanship and intelligence and those sorts of things.
- 37:06[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, he worked at Waterburg for a while when he was at North Texas.
- 37:10[SPEAKER_02]: And let's just say he made significant use of the employee discounts.
- 37:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: He went up to 360A, which was an issue.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: and actually had to redshirt a year because of it.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: But I just thought, like, he's so thick in the lower half and the quickest of the snap, I thought the triangle stuff that I saw of him at Central was impressive, I spoke to an AFC West scouting director a couple of weeks ago and he was like, you know, we were really impressed with how he could move.
- 37:38[SPEAKER_02]: And you know, yeah, he gets out of his skis a little big and be a bit of a leaner, he can chase contact, blocks his head consistently into contact.
- 37:44[SPEAKER_02]: And he was like, like, this stuff is just coachable
- 37:49[SPEAKER_02]: You know, there's just a ferociousness that he has that I thought defenders just found hard to deal with, and yeah, occasionally a bar brawl breaks out, but yeah, I thought he was an interesting, you know, if you're looking at a guy that can, you want to bring in and mid to late day three and just have as a developmental prospect who can play a couple of positions and you see what you get with him, I, I thought he was interesting plus I just wanted to say for Benchy we grew because who gets a chance to sow that very off well.
- 38:19[SPEAKER_00]: I'll piggyback off here real quick as we wrap up centers this bucket at a three bucket of into your offensive linemen at the bottom of my fifth round.
- 38:28[SPEAKER_00]: Grades list and it was Yager Burton.
- 38:31[SPEAKER_00]: Our modge read adams from Texas and the and to Vetchy we were like graded right side by side.
- 38:38[SPEAKER_00]: So we're in the same stratosphere of of how I had them graded.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: I like it.
- 38:42[SPEAKER_02]: I feel good about myself if that's the case.
- 38:45[SPEAKER_02]: The final group then before we actually hit the draft as it were next week, can we have a show?
- 38:52[SPEAKER_02]: I'm sure we'll do a show next week before the draft.
- 38:54[SPEAKER_02]: Safety is a really fascinating group.
- 38:56[SPEAKER_02]: Some really, really, really good players.
- 38:58[SPEAKER_02]: Lots of different flavors in terms of free safety or alley runners or robbers or guys that can
- 39:10[SPEAKER_02]: You know, we could talk about 20 different guys.
- 39:13[SPEAKER_02]: I think my, you know, it's a really good class.
- 39:15[SPEAKER_02]: And then there's plays that we both like.
- 39:16[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, who did you end up with in your top five?
- 39:20[SPEAKER_00]: Do I have to stop at five?
- 39:21[SPEAKER_00]: I do.
- 39:23[SPEAKER_00]: I love this group so much.
- 39:25[SPEAKER_00]: There's about 10 guys that I am smitten with out of this group.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 39:32[SPEAKER_00]: So Caleb Downs, Ohio State is one.
- 39:35[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Dylan Theneman, Oregon is number two for me.
- 39:39[SPEAKER_00]: Same for me.
- 39:41[SPEAKER_00]: Emmanuel McNiel Warren Toledo is number three for me.
- 39:44[SPEAKER_00]: AJ Hulsie LSU is number four for me.
- 39:49[SPEAKER_00]: And then I've got four guys graded within a point and a half on a 100 point scale here.
- 39:58[SPEAKER_00]: Trade on Stooks, Arizona, Jalen Kilgore, South Carolina, I have Kyle Lewis in this bucket.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, interesting.
- 40:07[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_00]: And Camari Ramsey from USC.
- 40:10[SPEAKER_02]: Okay.
- 40:11[SPEAKER_02]: So I had down.
- 40:12[SPEAKER_02]: I've got downs.
- 40:13[SPEAKER_02]: Tina man, wholesale three with Neil Warren at four.
- 40:17[SPEAKER_02]: I actually have stukes as a slot.
- 40:20[SPEAKER_02]: I've just put him in slot corners.
- 40:21[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 40:24[SPEAKER_02]: What else?
- 40:24[SPEAKER_00]: Six in one hand have those in the other, right?
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: Exactly.
- 40:26[SPEAKER_00]: That role is going to be there.
- 40:28[SPEAKER_02]: exactly and then kill go as my five like five extremely different prospects in terms of, yes, what they do like it literally they don't another than play exactly the same, you know, down's just literally all over.
- 40:41[SPEAKER_02]: Tina, when you can play single-high, you know, as he did back at Purdue, placed in the box, Colisey just to me, like, pure, free-safety.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: And they all weren't just coming down at the box and just smashing people.
- 40:51[SPEAKER_02]: And Kill Girls, probably just gonna be the, the kind of, the, the, the big nickel kind of, I hate to say Nicki Minaj worry but that kind of type of player made me a little bit.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, like you, I kind of just gone way down the list and just been like, yeah, it's like my Ramsay and his, Bud Clark and here's, you know, B.J.
- 41:09[SPEAKER_00]: Payin'.
- 41:11[SPEAKER_02]: always new skiing, you know, husky and, you know, yeah, we could've just gone a little on and on.
- 41:17[SPEAKER_02]: Downs to me, I just, I just love everything about him, I just love the brain, I love the, you know, people like, oh, he didn't test and he's got no elite, don't get early traits and no elite physical traits and yeah, yeah, and I was just like that.
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: That just feels like something somebody once said on social media and then it's just become a thing and, and, yeah, it just speaks to me about.
- 41:38[SPEAKER_02]: maybe people just not understanding the role, like you have conversations with people about safety.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: And I totally get the people, this sounds really up to you as well, it's not meant to be.
- 41:49[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, I think people feel how I'd safety
- 41:55[SPEAKER_02]: you know it's like it's 1986 and you've got a free safety over here and you've got a strong safety over here and then you've got two corners outside and you've got three line macers and they're all big and I see shoulder pads and big roll necks and like that's not the game you know I mean it's like and that's kind of like how as some people I think approach it and you're just trying to explain it well actually that kill cause I'm gonna do this but whole season plays the same position but he doesn't at all I mean it's the same name but like
- 42:21[SPEAKER_02]: There's such an interesting, I find safety such an interesting position anyway and always have done historically even kind of growing up with, you know, the one he lots and the guy Seattle who died recently, who I thought was amazing, whose name completely escapes me and, you know, Benny Blake, Benny Blake and all those kind of guys back in a day, but
- 42:41[SPEAKER_02]: Where do you figure on on catered down?
- 42:44[SPEAKER_02]: Because obviously there was that kind of controversial, although I didn't think he was that controversial statement by Dame Brugler a few months ago, where he said scout said that down to the best safety that they had scouted historically.
- 42:56[SPEAKER_02]: Where did you, what do you feel about down as a player in his feet?
- 43:02[SPEAKER_00]: I have very few questions about his ability to project into just about any scheme.
- 43:09[SPEAKER_00]: If you play him in the high post 90% of the time that's on you brother, like, I don't know what to tell you, like, don't do that.
- 43:15[SPEAKER_00]: Like, he's a player that has such incredible instincts, versatility and think about, like,
- 43:25[SPEAKER_00]: There was a few years there where it was just like Vic Fangione, it was all meta to be vanilla before the snap and force the quarterbacks to do all their processing after the snap, right?
- 43:37[SPEAKER_00]: And that was like, ooh, Vic.
- 43:39[SPEAKER_00]: And then everybody else started doing it, but they did it with pressure looks.
- 43:43[SPEAKER_00]: And they still force you to do all your processing.
- 43:47[SPEAKER_00]: nontraditional tampas and your simulated pressures and you're inverted cover 2s where your corners end up flying from depth and your safeties end up coming down and playing hooks and your nickel players now the flat lake.
- 44:04[SPEAKER_00]: All of these coverage and shell rotations
- 44:13[SPEAKER_00]: I don't want to say interchangeably because you can't put him outside corner, right?
- 44:16[SPEAKER_00]: But like, there's so much more to it than he's going to play the high post in cover one.
- 44:23[SPEAKER_00]: He has to play split field in cover two because he doesn't have the range to play cover one where he's in nickel player.
- 44:29[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 44:30[SPEAKER_00]: Like it has become so much more ambiguous than that.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_00]: And if you as a coach defensively at the NFL level aren't doing all that, you're probably going to have some problems.
- 44:42[SPEAKER_00]: Right?
- 44:43[SPEAKER_00]: And downs is somebody who is.
- 44:45[SPEAKER_00]: athletic enough to play split feel or to do exotic shower rotations.
- 44:53[SPEAKER_00]: His football IQ is off the charts.
- 44:56[SPEAKER_00]: He's a tone setter and a culture setter for your locker room.
- 45:03[SPEAKER_00]: The concerns is that he might be a four or five guy when it doesn't really matter in the grand scheme of things because he's not playing press coverage on the outside and having a turn and flipping carry guys down the field.
- 45:14[SPEAKER_00]: He's playing from death and leveraging things and using angles and vision and anticipation and processing I don't care like I don't care he's one of the best players in the classroom he's not the best safety of ever graded but he's one of the best players in the classroom.
- 45:30[SPEAKER_02]: And we talk about the speed and he won't pass.
- 45:32[SPEAKER_02]: I call it 8% of a snapshot.
- 45:34[SPEAKER_02]: He's more of an outside corner, which says that, and it's college football, it's not the end of it.
- 45:39[SPEAKER_02]: But it tells you the map of Tricia was comfortable enough, picking him outside outside corner at 8% of the time.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_02]: What I find interesting, like a degree wholeheartedly with every single thing you say in terms of the, you know, people say, oh, there's not a splash place.
- 45:51[SPEAKER_02]: It's like, he doesn't make a splash place enough for splash place, because he's already in the position that people don't even expect him to be.
- 45:58[SPEAKER_02]: Before he's supposed to be there because the instincts of right place right time are so good, like the the the little things are the communication staff, the all of those things that I just think of, you know, that just fascinate me and the license to freelance that he was given within that scheme.
- 46:14[SPEAKER_02]: within the structure, but never to the detriment of the overall defense.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_02]: I found fascinating and I don't think there's that many players that you could just say, look, you have a fairly ambiguous role in in what you do, you know, there are very important tenants of that role that you have to fulfill.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_02]: but he was able to almost freelance at times and yet make the defense just so much better.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_02]: And what I thought, and we've talked about this before, that the movement of those three, you know, reefs, styles and downs, just in terms of how differently they follow a play and they move, it is just different to anything else.
- 46:49[SPEAKER_02]: But when I was digging into the back story about him and just,
- 46:52[SPEAKER_02]: You know that the high school coach, there was an issue of the high school coach, he said, you know, the times in games where the high school coach would ask downs, what he thought coverage is should be because downs were so advanced in terms of how he understands the kind of mechanization of a football defense and Patricia talks about how downs are she's to go around his house.
- 47:13[SPEAKER_02]: you know for no reason other than to just be like coach can we just like spend three four I mean just like into the middle of the night's skull sessions on not even on a higher state field just breaking down Patriots films and how Devon Macawty used to play and safeties that Patricia really liked historically and you know let's spend three or four hours looking at how Ronnie Locke played or Brian Dawkins or Ed Reed and they would just and Patricia said like just the
- 47:39[SPEAKER_02]: just blows me away with how he assimilates information and how he understands like stuff that you just do not expect to, you know, you wouldn't expect a 10-year-old pro-safety to understand, just the brain just works, works in a very different way.
- 47:54[SPEAKER_02]: Kilgore is a guy that you and I historically have liked an awful lot.
- 47:59[SPEAKER_02]: Where how do you see his best role before we get out here?
- 48:02[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think that nickel, I think he's
- 48:08[SPEAKER_00]: Effective enough that if you wanted to make them be a base safety, I think you can play a lot of cover to shell stuff.
- 48:19[SPEAKER_00]: I really like him in the nickel as the apex defender and I really like him as a second level like dimebacker type.
- 48:28[SPEAKER_00]: So for me, like the blockade is not how does he fit when somebody's in 12 or 11 personnel.
- 48:36[SPEAKER_00]: The blockade is how does he fit when it's first and 10, right?
- 48:42[SPEAKER_00]: It's it's a very unique.
- 48:43[SPEAKER_00]: challenge.
- 48:45[SPEAKER_00]: So I think he, he will be somebody who I think is better.
- 48:49[SPEAKER_00]: The closer he gets to the line of scrimmage has compared to playing the deep stuff.
- 48:54[SPEAKER_00]: But when he tested the way that he did, that's when I kind of got the inspiration that, okay, like this is somebody who has the profile to at least play from the back end and cap routes and then be able to come down hill with the four, four flat that he had.
- 49:17[SPEAKER_00]: And the wingspan and the arm length that he has
- 49:20[SPEAKER_00]: Helps him with what I don't think he has in transitional quicks because I don't think he's a big-time T-step put your foot in the ground and explode and drive on stuff, right?
- 49:31[SPEAKER_00]: But he is somebody who With that reach a number of his PBUs were He wasn't all the way into the frame, but he could extend and reach around players and still interrupt the hands.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_00]: So I see
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 49:45[SPEAKER_00]: And then you get them as like when you go big nickel and you go but three safety's in stuff having him be that player that I think can really prosper in the intermediates is is where I think he's really gonna shine.
- 49:57[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah I am Clay and White had him I mean the South Carolina DC I was fascinated by that Alabama game because essentially Clay and White just said and I know that he had his own issues last year, Ryan Williams in terms of
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: but this is early in the year, and this is Clay and White saying, well, I just wanted to go one and one against Ryan Williams, and he absolutely did not embarrass himself.
- 50:21[SPEAKER_02]: And there were a couple of plays where Williams essentially just ran through his face and he had killed or had to turn and run.
- 50:28[SPEAKER_02]: And yes, it's not, you know, this isn't, you know,
- 50:32[SPEAKER_02]: This isn't pass-a-tath doing it, but it was significantly better than I thought and like you say just able to get up out of his frame To knock balls away.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: There's a play with Jeremy Bernard where he does exactly that down the field and you just like this is gonna be attached down It's perfectly thrown-bought and then all of a sudden any comes like superman just knocks the ball away And I think you can play a number of different roles around that box.
- 50:55[SPEAKER_02]: I think he's a I really liked him as a player who's your before we get out of here Then who's your sleeper at the safe position?
- 51:02[SPEAKER_00]: Can we bond on VGA pain?
- 51:04[SPEAKER_02]: Is does he count the absolute counts?
- 51:07[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I've got a three on him.
- 51:09[SPEAKER_00]: So he's a top 75 player for me, but he didn't get the name call on the roll call here in the top eight.
- 51:15[SPEAKER_02]: So yeah, I miss his Chris when it happened and I said, like, are we sure the Chris and I said, are we sure this guy is in the corner?
- 51:22[SPEAKER_02]: Like, are we certain is not like that four foot in the combine that the man comes stuff for the slot is pretty compelling.
- 51:29[SPEAKER_02]: I, I wouldn't even.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_00]: I obviously have a manual make new worn graded higher.
- 51:34[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, but if you tell me I can get VJ pain in the third round or use a top 30 pic on a manual.
- 51:40[SPEAKER_00]: You'll warn.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I know.
- 51:41[SPEAKER_00]: I probably leaning just taking VJ pain later on day two.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I thought, yeah, just some stuff and movements to off the.
- 51:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, 42 games start as well, 2,000 frying and 45 snaps, you know, load of experience, three state championships in football, 110 meter state champion, I think he finished third, maybe.
- 52:04[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, so he's athletically, he's really good and I just, yeah, I thought his table was excellent.
- 52:11[SPEAKER_02]: I was just like, it's this guy really not a corner because look what he's doing, it's six foot three.
- 52:16[SPEAKER_02]: and 210 pounds, not like, you know, he's not 59, 190.
- 52:20[SPEAKER_02]: It's, um, there's wild way to do.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_00]: We're 34 inch Arabs.
- 52:25[SPEAKER_02]: I know, but it's pretty big.
- 52:26[SPEAKER_02]: And the back pedal, the change of direction, you talk about the T, there's change of direction skills, the flipping is here, some driving out of the side like, he narrows, like all of the, the nuanced stuff that you expect that, you know, the man saw the lanes of the Jama'at McCoy's, which they do do.
- 52:42[SPEAKER_02]: But you know, the narrowing of the window by moving people, manipulate them towards a sideline, those sorts of things for like, wow, okay, that the leverage player that you are is fascinating to me.
- 52:51[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I am, I was looking for, I'm at Lewis Moore actually, who's been in college, I love the old guys, you know, clearly, because Jalen Catalan and Lewis Moore have been in college since like the mid 2000.
- 53:01[SPEAKER_02]: Yep.
- 53:02[SPEAKER_02]: But I've just thought what he did last year.
- 53:04[SPEAKER_02]: I know he'll be 26 before the super barn.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_02]: Obviously, that's going to happen ceiling.
- 53:08[SPEAKER_02]: Seven-year college player.
- 53:11[SPEAKER_02]: But actually, he's not that huge the experience I only 27 ago.
- 53:13[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought that the stuff that he did, especially last year, ACL injuries and those sorts of things.
- 53:17[SPEAKER_02]: But the stuff that he did for Indiana last year, he's small, he's got the fifth-short assarms of anybody that the combine on a defensive side of the ball.
- 53:24[SPEAKER_02]: But if you're just looking for a good fundamental he's out for all player who moves well in space.
- 53:28[SPEAKER_02]: He's like a radar to the ball.
- 53:31[SPEAKER_02]: You know, he never struggles to not be in the right place at the right time.
- 53:35[SPEAKER_02]: He's instinctive.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_02]: He has really good eyes.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_02]: He just drifts naturally into, into throwing lanes and does so really under control.
- 53:43[SPEAKER_02]: I just thought as a guy that, you know, you can get as a bit of a kind of disruptive agent of chaos, a team leader who was kind of the glue.
- 53:53[SPEAKER_02]: at the defense really in terms of what he did in the locker room.
- 53:56[SPEAKER_02]: Look at the dignity, I just thought, look, this is a guy that, you know, you find a home on day three and he can become a rotational player on the back end, a key specialty man, just be somebody that, you know, was a blue guy in the locker room as well.
- 54:08[SPEAKER_02]: I'm a big fan of more.
- 54:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think he's his little older, right?
- 54:16[SPEAKER_00]: I remember correctly.
- 54:17[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he was pretty sick for the Super Bowl.
- 54:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, so.
- 54:22[SPEAKER_00]: I think that gets you a great chance to get a disproportionately good player for where he will get drafted just because of that right that the position and age is a combination that.
- 54:33[SPEAKER_00]: Will he go before around six by default just because of how they they will approach that in the draft process and if not like.
- 54:41[SPEAKER_00]: Hey, you know, you're going to get at least a very good role player later on day three.
- 54:45[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's that's a great call off for somebody who that that whole it is funny with my board.
- 54:50[SPEAKER_00]: I have the the 24 plus year olds in red text and to zoom out and see all the Indiana Hoosiers littered throughout with the red text done like, yeah, Kurt Kurt had a cook in there, but, uh, but they said you're already as 19 years old, so there was a reason why they did what they did.
- 55:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's right.
- 55:09[SPEAKER_00]: And I know wonderful job with it.
- 55:11[SPEAKER_00]: And I'd expect those guys will be well prepped for impactful roles even if they are not starring players in the NFL.
- 55:20[SPEAKER_02]: 100% and I think to plug my your draft stuff I reckon people see what you've done, read what you've done, he haven't done.
- 55:28[SPEAKER_00]: So I have been working through the position of rankings over a locked on Dolphins.
- 55:33[SPEAKER_00]: A lot of my macro draft Dolphins specific stuff right now is dropping over on on sub stack on touchdown Miami.
- 55:41[SPEAKER_00]: Put out the 300 player horizontal board.
- 55:45[SPEAKER_02]: Then it looks amazing.
- 55:46[SPEAKER_02]: By the way, he sent me a copy looks incredible.
- 55:48[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Congress told Owen Heineke you could go back to college.
- 55:52[SPEAKER_00]: So I had to redo a 300th player last night.
- 55:55[SPEAKER_00]: I was pissed, but I took him off and put him on.
- 55:59[SPEAKER_00]: And there's new version of the board that's up.
- 56:00[SPEAKER_00]: So he's still got 300 eligible players for this year's class on an adjusted board.
- 56:05[SPEAKER_00]: But that's all over on sub-stack on touchdown.
- 56:08[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, somebody, one of the English, so I was obviously up early, American people hadn't were sending me stuff for their golf book.
- 56:17[SPEAKER_02]: And so I sent out to a few English people this morning and the third person had got it, so it almost just went going, you know, you've referred to Lavion Moss once as Lavion Bell, and I was like, fuck, I said, the boy rents things out there.
- 56:29[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, so I had to do that before I read it.
- 56:32[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, it's all good.
- 56:33[SPEAKER_02]: The draft book is out.
- 56:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's 283 pages.
- 56:36[SPEAKER_02]: It's 230,000 words.
- 56:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's available.
- 56:39[SPEAKER_02]: If you email the low red zone or one led at gmail.com, I will send you details as how to get it.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: That is it.
- 56:45[SPEAKER_02]: Thanks for listening.
- 56:46[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you for watching.
- 56:48[SPEAKER_02]: Carla, I'm sure we're back next week for the draft to preview it all.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_02]: We don't know one day.
- 56:51[SPEAKER_02]: We haven't talked about it, but I'm sure we're here and we'll have some sort of
- 56:55[SPEAKER_02]: Benoens are pre-draft, the extravaganza thing, where we look ahead to the thing that we've all been planning for.
- 57:02[SPEAKER_02]: You can catch our at A to Z sports and all the places you just said.
- 57:06[SPEAKER_02]: And at our at-cile cramps on Twitter, you can catch me on my sub-stack, which is simply called the low red zone or at the site currency on Twitter.
- 57:14[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you very much.
- 57:15[SPEAKER_02]: We're nearly there.
- 57:17[SPEAKER_02]: See you next week.
