- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Take, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts. Right now.
- 0:15Welcome back to the three O take presented by C Keep this episode
- 0:18513. I'll be your host, Kyle Cord.
- 0:21I'm here with my Co host Nate Reyes.
- 0:26Nate. Let's go.
- 0:30Happy Sunday. Almost to the good season.
- 0:37Almost. Almost there.
- 0:41I'll tell you what, nothing gets me going.
- 0:45Nothing makes me feel more alive as an American than baseball
- 0:50season. But I tell you what, you know
- 0:53what? You know what's second in line
- 0:55on that list? What?
- 0:59Watching an American hockey team beat Canada.
- 1:06After after the three fights and nine sets, are you?
- 1:09Kidding me? I mean, you want to talk about
- 1:12getting the blood flowing? Dude, there's something, there's
- 1:16just something like, there's something that I respect about
- 1:20hockey, you know what I mean? Like it's just incredible the
- 1:26way it's like, let's throw down, then like let's just throw down.
- 1:31Let's let's let's hold each other up and wail on each other.
- 1:36It's crazy. And the refs are like, you know
- 1:38what? I get it.
- 1:40OK, we'll be here when you're done.
- 1:43And like cheering as they go to the penalty box too.
- 1:46That I'm telling you, man, hockey's just they're they're
- 1:50built different. It's a different breed.
- 1:51A lot of respect A. Lot of respect.
- 1:54And you know, there was a, a, a conversation that I feel like I
- 1:58saw brewing last night, primarily amongst hockey, hockey
- 2:01fans, obviously, but they were talk and I, I know like a little
- 2:06bit about hockey, but not a whole lot.
- 2:09But I mean, I was able to sort of pick up what they're putting
- 2:12down, but they're essentially talking about getting rid of the
- 2:15All Star game in favour of this. What what do they call it again?
- 2:21Four Nations face off or whatever.
- 2:24And then I started seeing some baseball fans chime into the
- 2:27conversation, like, what would this look like if we introduce
- 2:30the world Baseball classic in the middle of the season when
- 2:33people are at, you know, if they're in when when players are
- 2:36in mid season form, like what would that look like?
- 2:39And it got me wondering again, because we've had this
- 2:41conversation before. Posts when you and I went to the
- 2:44World Baseball Classic. Yeah.
- 2:46Like, what would it look like to maybe shake things up with the
- 2:49schedule a little bit? And so as I was watching Team
- 2:53USA wipe the floor with Canada last night, I was like, look, I
- 3:01love the All Star game. I enjoy watching, I enjoy
- 3:04watching the Derby. You and I are going this year to
- 3:07Atlanta, but what would it look like to incorporate more of the
- 3:14the the international side of baseball that we've been so much
- 3:18in love with as it's become more and more a part of the game
- 3:23lately? Like, what would it look like to
- 3:25incorporate that more into what we see during the MLB season?
- 3:30Yeah, it's tough, man. It's tough.
- 3:33It's I, I will. I love the idea of it.
- 3:36I love the concept. It's just, again, the hockey
- 3:41player and mentality is just different and it's cool that
- 3:47like the owners can collectively say, hey, these guys are at risk
- 3:54every time they step on the ice. What what's it to us if they
- 3:59risk it during an exhibition thing?
- 4:00You know what I mean? Baseball's just not like that.
- 4:03Like it's so it's just so protected and no one's willing
- 4:06to do any, no one's really willing to risk for exhibition
- 4:10stuff. Then you see that with like guys
- 4:12opting out and not doing the WBC or especially now like major
- 4:16guys going down in preparation for the WBC or playing in it.
- 4:21And it's like it's hard to it's hard to argue against.
- 4:28But again, that's just the difference of like the mentality
- 4:34of hockey players, man. Like they're just like, I'll put
- 4:37my money aside, I'll put my like, it's just about overall
- 4:45pride of like representation. And I think that you see a
- 4:52little bit of that for the WBC, but you don't see a ton of it
- 5:00once opening day kicks off, you know what I mean?
- 5:03It's just like that's the main goal.
- 5:05So it's hard man. I like the idea of it.
- 5:10Well said and my goodness, what a segue into what is essentially
- 5:15our first topic of discussion here today.
- 5:17You want to talk about about mentality, You want to talk
- 5:21about guys that are willing to just lay it all on the line.
- 5:24Let's talk about a guy who isn't.
- 5:27Marcus Stroman made made headlines recently for some
- 5:30comments that he shared about his perceived role for the 2025
- 5:37season, whether it be with the Yankees or elsewhere.
- 5:42I don't think he cares what team he's playing for.
- 5:45I think Marcus Stroman believes that he will be starting as it
- 5:49were, based on his comments as opposed to serving any sort of
- 5:52bullpen role. So I got the video queued up
- 5:58here for us. I want us to to listen to what
- 6:00he said, the way he said it, and as someone who has watched him
- 6:05first hand, Nate, I want you to maybe share some thoughts as to
- 6:10what this marriage is ultimately going to look like when it's all
- 6:15said and done. If it's going to continue, if
- 6:17this is going to end in an ugly divorce before the season even
- 6:22starts, or maybe an an option C that I haven't even really
- 6:28considered yet. But let's let's watch this
- 6:30video. Let's see what Marcus Stroman
- 6:32said, I believe Friday. Considering your pedigree, could
- 6:37you handle being a reliever? I'm gonna start.
- 6:41So right now, I'm gonna start. You're the 6th starter.
- 6:43So how do you handle that? See how it plays out?
- 6:45I'm a starter. I'm a start.
- 6:47You don't want to pitch a gold pen.
- 6:48I won't pitch a gold pen. I'm gonna start.
- 6:50I'm starter, real team player there, Marcus Stroman says that
- 6:58he is not quote, he is not a starter.
- 7:01He will not pitch in the bullpen.
- 7:02He's a starter. He's a starter.
- 7:05He doesn't know, but he knows that he's a starter.
- 7:11He's a starter. What are your what are your
- 7:14thoughts on this? Because as you'd imagine, this
- 7:17this sort of made its rounds, but understandably so.
- 7:19Because Marcus Stroman is a guy who gets swept up in in the
- 7:24headlines because of the things he says, because because of the
- 7:28ways in which he says them and ultimately has demonstrated a
- 7:36pattern of, you know, maybe not being the best, like I said,
- 7:41team player when it comes to being a guy in a clubhouse.
- 7:45What are your thoughts? Yeah, I mean, this is this is
- 7:48standard, this is par for the course.
- 7:50He's done this with multiple organizations.
- 7:53It's it's always the Showman show.
- 7:55And when it comes down to it, it always, it's always him as as
- 7:59the priority. And I'm not at all surprised.
- 8:04I'm the only thing I'm surprised about is that it took this long
- 8:08for this side of him to come out.
- 8:10You know what I mean? And the fact that he stayed
- 8:13somewhat quiet last season and wasn't really in the headlines
- 8:18for any negativity. It surprised me that it it it
- 8:21took this long. This it's this just what he is.
- 8:25This is what he is. There was another quote that he
- 8:28came out and said like name another guy that can stay
- 8:31healthy and average 30 starts a year.
- 8:33And like look at my numbers. And it's like I think someone
- 8:38called him out in the comments. They're like, dude, you're
- 8:40averaging like 26 starts a year, which is still like, hey, like
- 8:44whatever, but I, I don't. Know yeah, not going to knock
- 8:46that yeah. Like it's still like it is what
- 8:49it is, man. Like I don't.
- 8:54No, let's, no, let's take that advice.
- 8:56Let's look at the numbers. So in 2024 for the Yankees, he
- 8:59posted a 431, posted a WAR of .7, had an ERA plus of 95.
- 9:11Below average. Had a FIPP of 462.
- 9:14Had a whip of 1.468. Not great.
- 9:22I don't know what you want me to tell you.
- 9:23That's what I'm saying, like don't say go look at the
- 9:26numbers. Like I, I saw another video of
- 9:30like a retired GM just talking about like how like GMs want
- 9:34winners, like people like we don't have time for this.
- 9:38Like it doesn't need to be about you right this second.
- 9:41Like this shouldn't be the storyline.
- 9:45And so for you to like, sit out the first few days of spring
- 9:48training that were optional, but every, every one of your other
- 9:52team mates is there showing up like you're, you're not
- 9:55important enough to make that kind of statement.
- 10:00And, and maybe it's just you being rubbed the wrong way
- 10:03because the Yankees have been shopping your your name, you
- 10:06know, all offseason. And I can promise you that, you
- 10:10know, the trade that sent Nestor to Milwaukee probably had
- 10:14Stroman's name in there before Nestor.
- 10:17I can almost promise that that's the case.
- 10:20I can almost promise you that. Any offers that I've been
- 10:23potentially thrown back and forth for Arnato have had
- 10:27Stroman's name involved as well. Like that's, I think it's known.
- 10:30I think every Yankees fan can come out and say that.
- 10:33I think I get where the frustration would be.
- 10:37Like, I can't stand the coy side of the front office around, like
- 10:46the public relations side of things, specifically around, you
- 10:50know, the way Aaron Boone talks, the way Brian Cashman talks.
- 10:54I'm never going to show you my hand.
- 10:55You're never going to be able to see it.
- 10:57But it's obvious that this guy's kind of being dragged through
- 11:01the mud a little bit. And, and that's just how the
- 11:03game is like. That's how the nature of the
- 11:06business is. So you can either use that as
- 11:11fuel. And we've seen many other guys
- 11:13across the league, many other team players just be like, you
- 11:15know what, I'm going to show up and do my job no matter what.
- 11:19That what that is defined as. If it's the organization
- 11:23changing my role, then that's how it is.
- 11:25That's what winners say. That's how winners show up.
- 11:28And when you walk into the clubhouse and you're looking at
- 11:31the other guys and you're saying like, now our, our journey
- 11:34starts again to go and try and hoist that trophy because we
- 11:38came up short last year. Now the journey all resets.
- 11:42Like that's the mentality you need in that clubhouse.
- 11:45I don't want this. I don't think anybody wants
- 11:47this. I don't think anybody can
- 11:48support this. So I'm it, it's not surprising.
- 11:53Go be a loser somewhere else. Go be a loser for a non
- 11:56contender because that's what's eventually going to happen.
- 12:00And now that this is starting and now that these headlines are
- 12:04starting to come out more and more, I can guarantee you that
- 12:08it's changing the conversation of how much money the Yankees
- 12:11are willing to eat to get rid of this idiot.
- 12:13Because I don't I don't want him here as a fan and I wouldn't
- 12:19want him in the clubhouse. So I'll give props to the way
- 12:24certain comments are coming out from the Yankee side of things.
- 12:28But you can see that like once you shut it down, you can see
- 12:32what they've been saying about Glaber.
- 12:34The all the comments around, like we brought in Jazz to be a
- 12:37second baseman. We asked Glaber to be a third
- 12:39base and he said, no, I'm a second baseman.
- 12:41Great. Then we're not bringing you
- 12:43back. Good luck.
- 12:46Go be 1/5 infielder somewhere else.
- 12:47I got to respect. You.
- 12:49Because you're below league average.
- 12:51You're not. You can't sit here with a chip
- 12:53on your shoulder and act like you are the greatest thing to
- 12:56come across for this organization.
- 12:58You're not worth it. You're not in the starting 5
- 13:02right now, you're on the outside looking in and you didn't put up
- 13:06numbers that are worth talking this way.
- 13:08So good luck. Just a matter of time before
- 13:12they find a suitor and I can. I can almost guarantee that
- 13:15they're willing to eat more money now than they were before
- 13:17these. But that and I've, I've agreed
- 13:19with everything you've said up to this point.
- 13:21But that's where I disagree and I put it, I put a tweet out
- 13:24about this the other day on that very topic.
- 13:26You said it's only a matter of time until they find a suitor.
- 13:29Who else in the league is unaware of what's going on?
- 13:34My my tweet that I put out? Certainly there's no team left
- 13:37in the MLB. Still unaware of the Marcus
- 13:39Stroman experience, correct? Step one.
- 13:43Disgruntled on current team. Step 2.
- 13:45Ends up on a new team Step 3. Disparages former team Step 4.
- 13:50Treats his new team as destiny. Step 5.
- 13:54Pitches poorly. Step 6 repeat steps one through
- 13:575. It's every time he get he he
- 14:00shows up to camp. He he's rocking the throwback,
- 14:03the vintage Tees. All this pulls a picture of of
- 14:07him wearing the hat in Little League.
- 14:08Like this is where I was always meant to be.
- 14:10It's like, dude, how many teams, how many teams can be your
- 14:13ultimate destiny? If, if, if you're bouncing
- 14:15around the league so often and then he'll pitch poorly, he'll
- 14:20get shipped off and then he'll just say nothing but bad things
- 14:23about the former team. He'll, he'll say they're racist
- 14:25or he'll say that they're they're a clown show.
- 14:27They don't know how to run an organization.
- 14:30It's like, like you were saying, you're not you.
- 14:33You have no right to have this sense of entitlement about what
- 14:38you what you feel that you're owed as a pitcher, whether it be
- 14:42your placement in the rotation or or otherwise, because you
- 14:47just haven't. What?
- 14:48Like sure, you post like you put up 25 to 30 starts a year,
- 14:53that's great. But when it's league average or
- 14:56below, more often than not, it's like you.
- 14:58Can find that elsewhere. You can find that elsewhere and
- 15:00with a lot less baggage and a lot less attitude.
- 15:03So I get the whole height doesn't measure heart mentality
- 15:08and and sure, I can respect that to a degree, but when it just it
- 15:11turns you into into a into a almost when you're.
- 15:14So insecure, it's insane. I mean, what I was shame on the
- 15:20Yankees for thinking that it was going to be any different.
- 15:24You know what I mean? Because like you said, we've
- 15:25seen these steps repeated over and over again with multiple
- 15:28organizations. It's crazy.
- 15:31Not interested, not interested. I don't care what we get for him
- 15:34now. I don't care what he did.
- 15:35Just go. Did you see him show up, by the
- 15:38way? Like, no, I'm not going to like
- 15:42everyone's in like half uniform where you see like spring
- 15:45training where it's like a like a dry fit, pants, socks, turfs,
- 15:50right? And he shows up and he's got
- 15:53like a baggy on tuck shirt and then like the pants to like
- 15:57shorts length and no socks. And you're just like, it's
- 16:00always your show. It's always your show.
- 16:04Like uniforms are meant to be uniforms.
- 16:06We're supposed to look the same. That's the whole point.
- 16:09It's the whole idea of uniforms is that we don't represent the
- 16:13name on the back, even though there is no name on the back,
- 16:15but we don't represent the name on the back.
- 16:16We represent the name on the front.
- 16:17And it's just it's never been that way for him.
- 16:21It's always been the name on the back.
- 16:22So good luck pitching for, you know, the freaking Reds or the
- 16:27Marlin. Like I'm done.
- 16:28Like I don't, I don't care. Go elsewhere.
- 16:31You're I can't imagine anybody really being a fan of this
- 16:35anymore. Well said in the chat part is
- 16:41one thing, but it turns when it reforms into pride.
- 16:44Pride comes before the fall, but I don't know how many falls
- 16:47Marcus Stroman has had like you know you you think of of being
- 16:52shipped off to another team so they can deal with your problems
- 16:54as a fall. This we're looking at yet
- 16:57another one for Marcus Stroman because I would venture to say
- 16:59that this does not end well for Stroman and the Yankees.
- 17:02I would venture to say he's pitching for another team by
- 17:05Opening Day if they can find a suitor, which I don't think they
- 17:08can anyway. Oh, I'm I can't wait for if he
- 17:11does pitch on a spring training mound in George Steinbrenner
- 17:15Field and he gets rocked. I cannot wait for either the
- 17:20release or the trade coming immediately after if it makes it
- 17:24that far. If it makes it that far, Cole
- 17:28Reagan's went out and got himself a little bag.
- 17:32Nate, you're of the bag. A little bag.
- 17:34Emphasis on little. You're of the belief that maybe
- 17:37he could have fetched a little bit more.
- 17:39I thought so. I like, I mean, look, I can't
- 17:42sit here and and and praise a guy for being team 1st and
- 17:47taking less money and then like ridicule the guy for not getting
- 17:51the money he deserves. I just felt like the the promise
- 17:55is is nice. He looks good.
- 17:58Like I could see him being the number one in Kansas City
- 18:02eventually. And you know, Seth Lugo isn't
- 18:05going to be Seth Lugo for forever.
- 18:08Eventually that role is going to have to be fulfilled.
- 18:10And I it feels like it's kind of a natural fit.
- 18:15And for those unfamiliar, it everything he does motion arm
- 18:20angle like it's very Cole Hamels.
- 18:23And I can, I can guarantee that he probably grew up watching him
- 18:29or Kershaw and trying to emulate something because there's a lot
- 18:32of that in his game. It looks good.
- 18:35I I think the Royals have something with him.
- 18:39So I was surprised it wasn't a little more money. 13 mil 13
- 18:421/2. Yeah, the the extension was
- 18:45three because if I recall, he, he agreed to come back, back in
- 18:51the fall, right. Yeah, I I'm assuming he was
- 18:55still, he's got to be still in ARB years before this.
- 18:58No, I thought, am I crazy? I thought it was back in like.
- 19:09Bing, Bing, Bing. Come on.
- 19:12Spot track open. Maybe I'm thinking of some
- 19:14somebody else. I think you're right.
- 19:17Because I mean what? Oh, yeah.
- 19:19Third year ARB. What am I talking about?
- 19:20Yeah, third year ARB in 2028. You're right.
- 19:22You're right. You're right.
- 19:24Yeah, 2025 was supposed to be still be pre ARB so.
- 19:28Yeah. So the extension get back to
- 19:31your question, three years, 13 and a quarter $1,000,000 for the
- 19:3427 year old, which will take him through the 2027 season, which
- 19:41honestly, based on what you're saying, I think is, is a great
- 19:44fit for the Royals because that's the you would hope for
- 19:49their sake and specifically for Bobby Witt's sake, because you
- 19:53know, we're big Bobby Witt guys. We want to see him succeed.
- 19:55We want to see him thrive. You hope that those three years
- 19:59will be part of a window where they're hopefully doing
- 20:04something, making some noise in that division and, and, and
- 20:07beyond that, once they get to the post, if and when they get
- 20:09to the postseason and having Cole Reagan's at the forefront
- 20:13of that, I think it's going to be huge.
- 20:15So, you know, very, very team friendly deal, especially if he
- 20:18comes out and replicates what he did.
- 20:20And maybe even finds a way to take it up a notch, being able
- 20:24to settle in more with another season under his belt, get a
- 20:27little more a little bit more comfortable.
- 20:30This could end up I'm going to be honest, I.
- 20:31Guess I just didn't realize like the couple struggle years with
- 20:35Texas, yeah, that he had in 2022 and 2023.
- 20:42Yeah. But I, I think I think like
- 20:43you're sort of alluding to, I think he's turned a corner.
- 20:46And I think that, like I said, this could be this could be huge
- 20:51for the warriors if you're able to get if you're able to get
- 20:56more of what you've already gotten from him at that price.
- 20:59They. Feel like they've yeah, I know.
- 21:00And if it feels like they may have like kind of tapped into
- 21:03something that, you know, that maybe Texas didn't see or didn't
- 21:05get out of them posted A49 war last year, like that's come on.
- 21:13Well, I'm saying. That's not bad at all. 314 ERA,
- 21:16186 innings. That's a #2 all day for most
- 21:22rotations. So yeah, hopefully he can do
- 21:26that. I guess I was unfamiliar with
- 21:29his age, obviously a little late in the game, you know, being 27.
- 21:35So it's going to be interesting to see if he does, you know,
- 21:40pitch up to that potential and hits the market again at 3031.
- 21:45And maybe he's seen as somebody who's a stud.
- 21:49Like that'd be that'd be kind of cool.
- 21:51It'd be kind of cool. So good for the Royals
- 21:53continuing to have a really good offseason this back-to-back good
- 22:00off seasons. A great sort of Kansas City
- 22:03Royals are on a great trajectory.
- 22:07Keep it up. Speaking of having a good off
- 22:09season and and being on a good trajectory, Paul Skeens has
- 22:14decided to take it upon himself to.
- 22:21I mean how else? How else can we say it just make
- 22:23him so more unhittable? Reports came out that he is
- 22:29looking to add a sinker and a cutter to his arsenal.
- 22:36To which I say good luck everyone else, good luck.
- 22:43Because you look at you look at what his arsenal was last year
- 22:46and I think we were, we confirmed this before we hopped
- 22:48on last year. He had a four seam, he had a
- 22:50slider and his splinker. And you saw he put up a sub 2
- 22:57ERA, right? Is that what did he finish with?
- 23:03I know it was sub two. What what, what was the final
- 23:05number he put up last year? Do you remember?
- 23:08198. 196196 You know what? I'll thank you.
- 23:19It's in the ballpark. I mean, come on, we're talking.
- 23:22What's your decimal? We're talking 100th, 100th,
- 23:29100th of a decimal, 200th of a decimal.
- 23:32I'll take it's in the. It's in the ballpark.
- 23:35Yeah, I mean, what are we doing, man?
- 23:41Like. Can you?
- 23:42Can you give the rest of the league a chance?
- 23:44I know. I know and like we like we
- 23:46talked about when we when we were picking guys to bet on who
- 23:52are under the age of 25 in the 2025 season.
- 23:56And I, I prefaced it by saying this was the easiest pick that
- 24:00you and I both made was, was adding Paul Skeens to that list.
- 24:03But it's for good reason that there is as much of A guarantee
- 24:09as you can make without making 100% guarantee, because as we
- 24:13know, anything can happen. But as close to being a
- 24:16guarantee as you can get that Paul Skeens is not going to
- 24:19suffer any effects of any sort of sophomore slump.
- 24:24This guy's game, he just, he pitches at a level that makes
- 24:30you forget how old he is. This guy, this guy goes about
- 24:35his business, takes the mound as if he's been in the league for a
- 24:39decade. And so when you take that into
- 24:42account, combine it with the fact that, oh, he did what he
- 24:46did his his first season with just three pitches.
- 24:50I know. And then he's going into a
- 24:52second year adding two more. It's just, it's, I don't, how do
- 24:57you, how do you, how do you defend that?
- 25:00Like as a guy, as a hitter, as an, as an offense, as a team?
- 25:04How do? What do you do with that?
- 25:06You can't. There's nothing to do with that.
- 25:08I keep going back to that that did you see that pitching ninja
- 25:13interview where they were talking about the All Star game?
- 25:18I think it's an All Star game, maybe not All Star.
- 25:20It was it was him and Soto. They were matching up and it was
- 25:23a Soto at bat and they were talking about using the same
- 25:30tunnel and what it it was breaking down as they're doing
- 25:35the interview, it's showing the video and it's breaking down how
- 25:38he Yanks a fastball kind of down and in towards Soto's back foot.
- 25:43And you see a little shuffle out of out of Soto because he ate
- 25:46ate it. You know, it kind of does that
- 25:48pound the hip thing. And then I think it's like a it
- 25:52made that like A22 or A32 count. And then he comes fastball back
- 25:57in where it starts at that front hip and then runs back in and
- 26:00catches the inner half and for a backwards K.
- 26:03And so you're like when when Paul Skeens is talking about
- 26:06using his misses, that's what he's talking about.
- 26:11And so now when you're talking about these pitches that he
- 26:13wants to add, he wants every direction covered, right?
- 26:17Because that splinker is going straight down.
- 26:20That fastball has run arm side. He wants that cutter to come in
- 26:26glove side. Now we have that slider coming
- 26:28down and in, right? So like now he can use all of
- 26:32these angles and all of these different tunnels and still like
- 26:38that's what having so many pitches does.
- 26:40That's why you see success out of a you Darvish out of guys
- 26:44that just have is so much to work with is because chances are
- 26:49you hear this all the time. Starters don't have every pitch
- 26:52working on a given start. Rarely does that happen.
- 26:56Maybe one or two starts in a year where they feel so good
- 26:59with everything and sometimes it's not even ending up a good
- 27:02start with other variables affecting it.
- 27:05So when you're talking about now having a guy who's so good with
- 27:08those 3 pitches, let's add two more and let's see what can
- 27:13work. Then even with my misses, even
- 27:16with something that I'm not using, I can swap it out.
- 27:21Another AB talks about how his fastball ran out away against
- 27:27the lefty. Another two strike account and
- 27:30he's going to throw a backdoor slider on that same tunnel that
- 27:34starts out at the same spot and catches the outer half.
- 27:37Like when you start thinking and attacking hitters on that level
- 27:44with the magic of what he has in his stuff, good.
- 27:52I don't. Good luck.
- 27:53Like I don't. If.
- 27:56Or did not immediately put him into the elite status it really
- 28:00is. Yeah, and and to your credit,
- 28:04you're you're very quick to remind people like let's let's
- 28:09stop abusing the whole goat thing and not to say.
- 28:11I hate goat. Yeah, I hate to go.
- 28:13Yeah, that conversation can get carried away at times.
- 28:16And I'm not saying that we're we're even remotely close to
- 28:19putting Paul Skeens in that category yet, but take it a take
- 28:22it a tear down, take it a step down.
- 28:26I don't think it's a stretch to put a guy like Paul Skeens, like
- 28:30you said, to use the word you said into the category of elite
- 28:33in baseball right now, having only seen one season of him in
- 28:37in in Major League Baseball. I I don't think it's a stretch
- 28:45because and what I was saying before that is something that I
- 28:48feel like we have to remind listeners, the people watching
- 28:51of is the difficulty of hitting a pitch in Major League
- 28:57Baseball. And you see all these videos all
- 28:59the time about the challenges presented at that you that you
- 29:06are are faced with as a hitter because you get people that are
- 29:10watching these games going. How in the world did you swing
- 29:13at that? How in the world did you take
- 29:14that pitch? How in the world did you miss
- 29:15that? It's easy when you're when
- 29:19you're watching a game from the point, from the perspective of
- 29:24what the what they're seeing behind the pitcher.
- 29:27Yeah, you've got The Cave zone on the screen, right?
- 29:31Where it gets challenging, though, is when you take the
- 29:35overlays, where you've got three different video clips overlaid
- 29:41on top of one another. You've got a.
- 29:42Four. Same release point.
- 29:44Same. Release point Same same movement
- 29:48for the 1st. 1420 feet that it looks identical like you have no
- 29:53idea come on the. Same, call it 30 feet of by
- 29:59which by the way, you're not even really tracking because if
- 30:02you the. Human eye hasn't caught up yet.
- 30:05Human, human eye just won't catch up.
- 30:08And, and you hear this all the time, but if you look at an
- 30:11image of a guy at contact point and you look at where his eyes
- 30:16are, and again, most of you may already know this, but some of
- 30:20you, this may be news to you. If you look at A at a, if you
- 30:22look at a hitter at contact point, you're always told to
- 30:26keep your eye on the ball. You can't physically as, as a
- 30:28major leaguer, you cannot do that.
- 30:30The closest thing you can get to is looking at about where the
- 30:35ball was maybe 20 feet from actually making contact with the
- 30:41bat. So again, going back to the the
- 30:45difficulty, the challenges that a guy like Paul Skeans can
- 30:48present to a hitter by adding additional pitches with
- 30:52movement. We're not just talking about
- 30:54like, oh, he's, he's making some tweaks to his force team.
- 30:58He's literally adding two additional pitches that
- 31:02introduce new types of movement that he is yet to really
- 31:05harness, that he is really yet to master that.
- 31:08I would imagine with any of amount of work put in, as he's
- 31:13doing right now in spring training, that he's eventually
- 31:16going to have an arsenal that just makes him nearly
- 31:19untouchable every time he takes the ball.
- 31:21A. 100% and that I think that's the what what we're talking
- 31:26about him getting into the elite status is now let's try to find
- 31:30a way to get outs quicker in an AB.
- 31:33Let's keep the pitch, pitch countdown and have pitches that
- 31:38get me outs without having to go maximum 1O21O3 effort, which he
- 31:44can still do whenever he wants. But let's find a way to manage
- 31:48the game a little bit better. And that's the beauty of
- 31:50starting pitching. That's the beauty of guys that
- 31:54are in this category is because it's a little bit of I've got
- 32:00the Aroldis Chapman ability in me and a little bit of AI can
- 32:04also tap into a Greg Maddox game manager type starting pitching.
- 32:10And if you can do both of that, that's why you're in that
- 32:14category. And I think that's what he's
- 32:15really trying to get to. How can I get outs without just
- 32:20overpowering you constantly? So it's going to be it's going
- 32:27to be nasty. And, and he's just going to
- 32:29continue to reach that fame, that that fame, dude, everything
- 32:34that's he's gotten is, is well deserved.
- 32:37Star power Wish, Yeah, leads me to ask one question as we wrap
- 32:41up this segment before we move on.
- 32:45Have we already seen the bat that we would want to see Paul
- 32:52Skeens take on? And when I say that, I'm
- 32:56referring to the All Star game last year going up against
- 32:58Judge. No, it's the first pitch.
- 33:01I wanted that IV to go a little longer.
- 33:04No, but I'm just saying in in terms of matchups, like is there
- 33:07anybody else that you would rather see take on Paul Skeens
- 33:13in a bat or is Aaron judge it because we got.
- 33:20I love Aaron Judge. I love Aaron Judge.
- 33:22But I, I, I do think that like, as far as an AT bat goes, I
- 33:27think Juan Soto gives you a better at bat because he's
- 33:31capable of doing a lot more. True.
- 33:35And and he has obviously has a better eye.
- 33:42But yeah, I mean, like you said, like we've had the Otani, you've
- 33:44had the Soto, we've had Judge four or five years ago.
- 33:52Mike Trout. I don't.
- 33:53I like maybe if we can get the healthy Mike Trout that's back
- 33:57on track. I mean, I'd love to see Bobby
- 34:02Witt, you know, that's I think that's a great match up just
- 34:05because again, like the multiple tools and the skill set that he
- 34:09provides. Probably not the probably not
- 34:13the sexiest of answers but just just came to mind.
- 34:16I feel like I would love to see Bryce Harper would give a a
- 34:20great at bat. But I feel like you or Don would
- 34:23be an awesome match up because you've got power going up
- 34:25against power and like if you or Don is able to connect on a Paul
- 34:30Skeens. Yeah, for sure, dude.
- 34:33How far is that baseball going? I think I also look at like, I
- 34:37mean, again, like you probably have to go back four or five
- 34:41years. I don't know if you have this
- 34:42version of him anymore. But like a Jose, Altuve is
- 34:46willing to expand the zone and fight stuff off.
- 34:49That's more of like a baseball nerd answer.
- 34:52Like I I want to see a guy that can give you a competitive at
- 34:55bat. Yeah, exactly.
- 34:57That's kind of like why I I like that is because like it's hard
- 35:02to have an at bat that combines again, like a Wan soda where I
- 35:05have the vision. I can fight stuff off, I can
- 35:08spit on things and I can also take you 450 at any point.
- 35:13So it's hard to imagine a better AB than that.
- 35:19I love it. I love it.
- 35:23Let's see. Let's see.
- 35:54I was going to swing right into it and it, I hit the button and
- 35:57it was like, actually, no, today's Sunday, we're going to
- 36:01take today off. And I said, well, well, whose
- 36:04thought was this sound bite? I'm going to really need you to
- 36:06come through for me here. So I hit it again and I was
- 36:09like, all right, cool, we got you, don't worry.
- 36:12Right, right, right. What do you want first?
- 36:14You want the quote or you want the date episode.
- 36:18Give me the quote. Here's what I think about this
- 36:23So if Opening Day is our Christmas, today is like the day
- 36:27after Thanksgiving. We're officially in the
- 36:29Christmas slash baseball season for this analogy, and we are
- 36:33just getting ready for it. Episode 44.
- 36:40Oh, February 13th, 2019. That's a I'm going to go ahead
- 36:51and prematurely give myself the correct answer.
- 36:55That's a you quote. Big time.
- 36:57That's a you. Quote.
- 36:58That's a fire analogy too. That's great.
- 37:01No, that's great that that was too beautifully said where I was
- 37:04like, I don't know if I could, if I could talk something like
- 37:07that to to summarize where we're at in the.
- 37:10Those are bars I think. Baseball is like bars for sure.
- 37:13Bars for sure. Yeah, no, I mean that perfectly.
- 37:17Said perfectly said, Yeah, we're in, we're in.
- 37:22We're tis the season. Tis the season to be jolly.
- 37:26You know, we're getting prepped, getting all our stuff in order,
- 37:31just waiting for Christmas morning.
- 37:34Speaking of getting stuff in order, I am pulling up the
- 37:37results of the voting for the last draft.
- 37:41Was it ugly, guy? I I think it was probably ugly.
- 37:45On whose behalf? My like my my behalf, I didn't
- 37:50have a good showing. According to the Instagram poll,
- 38:00Nate won by a vote of 63% to 37%.
- 38:06Which tells me. Get out of here, which tells me.
- 38:11I told you love Soto and Otani are stop and skeens.
- 38:17Those three names are hard to get over.
- 38:20I'm convinced how great as Scubal was.
- 38:26The fact that Royce Lewis is on this list tells me everything I
- 38:30need to know. It's. 30 homers.
- 38:33Tells me everything I need to know.
- 38:36Yeah, but you could have gone that's.
- 38:38Not a That's not a good. That's not a good.
- 38:41Right, which is not a good. Sign for you.
- 38:42Which is what I wanted to say. I mean, there's no way we could
- 38:47actually pull it off. But, well, I mean, we could, you
- 38:51know, we could. In fact, this is a great idea.
- 38:54I might put out a dummy, a dummy draft to target the people that
- 39:00totally take the names off. No, no, no, I'm not worried
- 39:03about that. I'm not worried about that.
- 39:04I might just put out a dummy draft and I'm going to stick
- 39:07with what I've done the last few drafts because you've won.
- 39:09I'm going to put you on the left side and I'm going to just put a
- 39:14bunch of nonsense in the draft. In fact, I might.
- 39:17I might make your team so bad, I don't even know what the
- 39:20category would be, but I might make your team so bad that
- 39:24anybody that actually voted for you, you would have to assume
- 39:26was it by accident. And I guarantee you, you're
- 39:29still going to win. Because I think people just look
- 39:32at the first option on the poll where it's like, would you vote
- 39:35for Nate or Kyle? And I put you first because you
- 39:37win. So I put you on the left side,
- 39:39ergo first. I'm telling you man.
- 39:44Should I put out a dummy draft? I think I should, and then I'll
- 39:46put out the real draft. I'll put out the real results.
- 39:48Like the next day, couple hours later kind of thing.
- 39:55Yeah, yeah, little gap. Yeah, a little bit of a gap.
- 39:58I do not think I I catch these frauds.
- 40:01I can see why the team would get votes.
- 40:06Like I said it was it was Skeens, Otani, Soto.
- 40:08Those are names that are going to get votes, but not that much
- 40:11of A, not that much of A. That's what I'm saying.
- 40:14These people clearly don't know ball and it's fine.
- 40:16Like, you know, not everybody can know ball.
- 40:18But I mean. All I ask is it just you just
- 40:21know a little ball, You know you don't have to know all ball, but
- 40:24some ball would be nice. Yeah, well, this is a fun one.
- 40:26This is different. Shout out Andrew, one of our
- 40:29listeners hit us up with this idea.
- 40:31It's going to be a fun one today.
- 40:33So what we're going to do which. Hold on, but which reminds me,
- 40:36shout out to those of you who have sent in topics like I
- 40:40there's, I've got, there's some folks in the in the DMS who have
- 40:43said, hey, I got an idea for the draft.
- 40:45Keep that coming. I have made note of it.
- 40:47I haven't forgotten about your, your all's messages.
- 40:51But we, you know, we got a lot of drafts to get to and I don't
- 40:54know how long we're maybe we just run the drafts up to the
- 40:57season. Maybe we modify it and keep the
- 40:59drafts around. It's hard to it's hard to say
- 41:01goodbye to these. To be honest.
- 41:02I'm struggling. I mean, you said it yourself,
- 41:04maybe we become the just the draft pod just.
- 41:07That's all we do. That's all.
- 41:08We don't even talk ball, we just talk drafts.
- 41:11But anyway, I hate it. Go ahead and let the folks know
- 41:13what we're doing here. Yeah.
- 41:15So we're going to have a randomizer go over the last 25
- 41:18seasons. So the year 2000 to the year
- 41:212024, we're going to take the randomizer and then we're going
- 41:26to choose whatever year's World Series winner team is.
- 41:31And then Kyle and I will draft a player off that team.
- 41:37From the loud our winner. The same way it's been filled
- 41:40out. So we're going to have a starter
- 41:41or a lever. Catch her all the way down to
- 41:44right field plus ADH and same rules apply with the snake draft
- 41:53randomizing the year. Laura said the season hasn't
- 41:58started yet. You'll talk more ball once it
- 41:59does. Believe me, Laura, we'll talk
- 42:01ball. But we love talking drafts, so
- 42:03we may try to figure out a way to make it happen.
- 42:06She's going to have three hour episodes, I guess.
- 42:09I'm here for it. If it means just doing a draft,
- 42:12I'll I'll talk 4. Hours.
- 42:13I don't even care all. Right.
- 42:15So you know, by default I'm going to put you first here.
- 42:19I didn't have. To erase that.
- 42:22That's nice. Oh, it must be nice too.
- 42:24Yeah, whatever. OK, first year that we are
- 42:31choosing is. You have like a link that you're
- 42:39using by the way. I'm assuming Baseball Reference
- 42:42has that? No, I mean.
- 42:47Just you just pull up the roster from the year that is selected.
- 42:52I know it's just baseball Reference is so nice.
- 42:55It's like straight there, all right.
- 42:59All right, this is lame. I had it.
- 43:01Hold on, stand by. I had it set up.
- 43:07So we're going from 2000, sorry I had to refresh the page, to
- 43:102024. Nate has the 1st pick snake
- 43:14draft. The first year we're choosing is
- 43:182015, which is the Kansas City Royals.
- 43:25I did find it on. And it has to be the World
- 43:36Series roster. We're not going.
- 43:38It can't just, it can't just have played.
- 43:43At any point for that team, goodness.
- 43:55Oh, this is interesting, This is interesting.
- 43:59This is going to be a challenge. I think so.
- 44:04And I just love you. I I can already see it.
- 44:06I'm going to there's going to be somebody in the comments being
- 44:08like, no, Aaron Judge, no valid roster.
- 44:13It's like, OK, well, first of all.
- 44:15Aaron Judge has played in one World Series and lost that World
- 44:18Series, so he's not even eligible.
- 44:20So I'll just go ahead and save you all the the trouble because
- 44:22I, I, I know that's coming and I just want to get out in front of
- 44:26that before it gets here, even though it still will.
- 44:29Now, like, what's the mentality here?
- 44:31We like, are we going off of like the like the year the guy
- 44:35had? It's.
- 44:39Whatever you think is going to win you the draft all.
- 44:42Right. All right.
- 44:43Well, I waited really late to get a catcher last draft, so I'm
- 44:48not going to do that. I'm going the opposite.
- 44:50Give me Sally Perez behind the dish.
- 44:55Of. Course.
- 44:56Is that what you wanted? Well, obviously, yeah.
- 45:03I mean, there's other names in here.
- 45:07Give me. Give me.
- 45:29I'm just going to go ahead and say give me.
- 45:40I'm choosing between two names here.
- 45:42OK. Yeah, it's tough because it's
- 45:48like, are we going, are we going off of like this is tough.
- 45:54Like that year overall, yeah. I don't know.
- 46:04Give me. Give me Alex Gordon.
- 46:14OK, Give me Alex Gordon. Left.
- 46:22Not my favorite choice. You.
- 46:23See Lorenzo Kane that year had A7 war, 838 OPS.
- 46:31Yeah, but that and that's why I said.
- 46:33Centerfield is a tough one to lose, though.
- 46:35Right, And that's the other thing too, is like, do are
- 46:37people going to remember that? Because it it all comes down to
- 46:40it all comes down to sort of initial like when you think of
- 46:45this player, because they're not going to think about like, oh,
- 46:47how did Lorenzo Kane do in 2015? They're going to think, oh,
- 46:50Lorenzo Kane career. Yeah.
- 46:54Not going to be not going to be the best for us.
- 46:57All right, next. World Series winning team.
- 47:01You're up first. I'm up first the year's 2020,
- 47:07that is the COVID shortened season, that's the Los Angeles
- 47:10Dodgers and I'm going to go ahead and choose.
- 47:17OK, so here's another thing. See if you're tracking with me
- 47:22here. Position then or position now?
- 47:26Correct. So predictable because that
- 47:31change it well, your head's your head's at where my head's at,
- 47:34so. Sure, sure.
- 47:35No, I hear you. I'm with you.
- 47:38I would say position then. OK.
- 47:47All right then Kimmy, Kimmy Mookie Betson, right.
- 47:53I mean, I'm not, I'm not going to over overthink it here.
- 47:56That's too easy. It's too easy of a choice.
- 47:59And maybe I've had Mookie Betts multiple on multiple teams.
- 48:06Maybe Mookie's my curse. Maybe that's why I keep losing.
- 48:09Possible. Maybe that's why I keep losing
- 48:12drafts. It is possible your boy Spores
- 48:19was on this team. Dodgers, Yeah.
- 48:23I didn't know that. Yep, sure was.
- 48:27Hey, he's, he's our boy now. I mean, I played ball with him,
- 48:30but he's he's a friend of the program.
- 48:33Program. This is tough, man, because it's
- 48:37like there's some good names in here.
- 48:43I think this is the first draft where it's actually been a
- 48:45challenge to to to weigh like that the year he had for that
- 48:52World Series winning team versus.
- 48:56Versus just career like, 'cause we didn't, we didn't specify.
- 49:00So it's sort of up for interpretation.
- 49:02Right. I mean.
- 49:09I can already see it now. People be like if Nate didn't
- 49:12have Salvador Perez, Kyle wins in a landslide, but Salvador
- 49:17Perez really puts him over the puts him over the the hump.
- 49:21It's like, OK. Oh man.
- 49:24It's tough to to burn either of these right away.
- 49:30Go ahead and do it. I don't think I want to.
- 49:42So predictable. So predictable.
- 49:50Give me Corey Seeger. OK, OK.
- 49:57Why? What were you thinking?
- 49:58Well, no 'cause we got repeats in here, so we can't true.
- 50:05All right, Nate's up with the next pick 2017, the infamous
- 50:13Houston Astros. This sucks.
- 50:16Love that. Yeah.
- 50:30Wow, wow. Yeah, that's my favorite part of
- 50:40these drafts is people just don't read.
- 50:42So we're going to get on here and people because people's
- 50:44going to be there's going to be somebody that's like, no, no,
- 50:49Walter Johnson, this draft isn't valid.
- 50:51It's like, well, wasn't wasn't eligible for this draft, friend.
- 51:02Jeez, man. Oh.
- 51:05Man, don't overthink this here. Can I call you that?
- 51:12No. What I'm trying to figure out is
- 51:14that like, do you want to do like how are we treating these
- 51:19names? Are we treating these names
- 51:21based on their performance that year, just overall?
- 51:25Do your best to make it like a hybrid like just because again,
- 51:29nobody is going to sit there and analyze our picks based on like
- 51:33oh, how did player XYZ do in the.
- 51:36The 2017 World Series, they're just going to look at it like,
- 51:39Oh yeah, they they probably played a pivotal role in that
- 51:42team and career wise also a good player.
- 51:45So sort of blend it if you can. I mean, why are you?
- 52:00Why are you acting like there's a slam dunk?
- 52:02There's good team, just good names on this team, obviously.
- 52:09Just. All right, fine.
- 52:11Give me Jose Altuve a second. Did you just bait me into taking
- 52:19this name that you're about to take?
- 52:22No. No.
- 52:25Did you? I don't know what to talk about.
- 52:28Give me. You know what?
- 52:34I'm just going to do it. Go ahead and give me.
- 52:39Justin Verlander, you. Baited me.
- 52:42Hall of Famer that's. Unbelievable.
- 52:44You baited me 'cause you talked me out of it.
- 52:47He made 5 starts. What are what is that?
- 52:52What is that year? What are you talking about?
- 52:57If I Scroll down, I look at. Again, nobody's going to
- 53:00remember that, so they're going to see my pick and go, oh,
- 53:02Justin Verlander, yeah, he helped.
- 53:04He helped get that team to. The world 34 innings that year.
- 53:09You. Baited me.
- 53:11You baited me because that was the name I was going to take.
- 53:14Asked me if I care. And then you're like, no, I'll
- 53:16try to find a hybrid. Now the gloves are off.
- 53:21So hybrid. He threw 34 innings.
- 53:23He made a start in the World Series.
- 53:25He was on the roster. He it counts.
- 53:28Whatever. It counts.
- 53:32You baited me. All right, next pick.
- 53:38Freaking bum. Love it.
- 53:41Gloves are off now. Come on, let's play some.
- 53:43Let's play some hardball here. 2013 The bearded brothers of
- 53:48Boston, the Boston Red Sox. Nate gets first pick.
- 53:52Yay, can't wait. Give me David Ortiz DH sick.
- 54:03Sick. I hate you.
- 54:06I hate you so much. Oh, sort of serious here.
- 54:11Jokes aside. I forgot again last time to
- 54:15mention the trades thing. So keep trades in mind for this
- 54:17draft should we get to the end and and want to make any sort of
- 54:20any sort of deal. Fair enough.
- 54:23All right, give me, give me Dustin Pedroit second.
- 54:45This ain't too bad so far. Oh, we got good squads.
- 54:51All right. You and Ortiz, do I get first
- 54:55pick? Yeah.
- 54:57I mean, let's be honest though, the odds of of of getting
- 55:00another Red Sox team are pretty good.
- 55:02If we're talking about turn of the century here.
- 55:06Pretty good. Not the Red Sox, but another Sox
- 55:13team. 2005 Chicago White Sox. What we got here?
- 55:23Oh, this will, this will take some recall who was on that
- 55:26World Series roster. Oh, that have been a good pick.
- 55:41Give me. Oh, oh, hold on, baby.
- 55:56Come on. Come on, I.
- 55:58Already know what you're doing? Shut your mouth.
- 56:01I know exactly what you're doing.
- 56:03Shut your mouth. Oh, hold on.
- 56:10No, I don't know if I can. Why did he not play in the World
- 56:15Series? Yeah, I don't think he did.
- 56:20But Tony, no, stop. Get out of my head.
- 56:23I know exactly what you're looking up.
- 56:26Get out of my head. What?
- 56:39Oh, you know what it was? No, you.
- 56:44No. What am I saying?
- 56:47I got to get to the bottom of this.
- 56:54He's not listed on. All right, well, OK, everybody,
- 57:01everybody knows what I'm thinking here, so I'm just going
- 57:03to go ahead and say it. Frank Thomas.
- 57:13Played 34 games that year. Yeah, he.
- 57:17Did he retire that year? Like what was the deal?
- 57:20He was injured during the world. No, I didn't retire.
- 57:23He was injured, Yeah. Didn't make the was unable to
- 57:27play in the postseason while the White Sox won the World Series.
- 57:29That sucks. I didn't retire.
- 57:32I forgot he retired in Oakland. Shoot.
- 57:36OK, well that changes things. Go ahead and give me wouldn't
- 57:46give me AJ Pierzynski behind a dish.
- 57:48I don't. Feel like writing his last name
- 57:53out? P i.e.
- 57:56RI think it's ZYNSKY? Is it P i.e.?
- 58:01It's Ki, Yeah, yeah, Yep. Got it.
- 58:05Give me Paul Kinerico at first. All right, all right.
- 58:10Solid year that year by the way. 40 and 100 with a nine O 9 OPS.
- 58:15I'm not here to sell the audience.
- 58:21Oh no no, didn't have to sell Verlander being a freaking
- 58:26swoop. I wasn't selling anything.
- 58:28I was. I was dirty.
- 58:30I was justifying the pick that he was eligible because he made
- 58:34a start in the World Series. I wasn't selling him on
- 58:36anything. OK.
- 58:39Who's got first pick? You got first pick all right.
- 58:42Next pick is 2011, which was the.
- 58:47Saint Louis Cardinals. Cardinals, correct?
- 58:49I don't know, I was blanking on that one.
- 58:56Tough, tough, tough, tough. Tough to tough to burn a first
- 59:04baseman. Oh yeah, around before this.
- 59:17Don't have a catcher that I can use.
- 59:21Either so. Oh, all right, all right.
- 59:28Yeah. I thought I missed the boat
- 59:29here. Yeah, no, you're you're smack
- 59:32dab right on center of the boat. I'll go ahead and take that.
- 59:38Yeah. I guess I'll go with Mr. Mr.
- 59:50Matt Holiday and left. All right.
- 1:00:07Oh crap, what was the cousin? 5 is what we had in the last
- 1:00:14round, right? Say what?
- 1:00:18We had 2005 last round. Yep, next.
- 1:00:22The worst World Series in the history of.
- 1:00:25That was tough. All right, so you chose first?
- 1:00:30I went, Albert Pujols at first. Did I?
- 1:00:37Am I choosing first? Yeah.
- 1:00:39All right. You already did. 20/17/2003 Sick
- 1:00:47The Florida Marlins. Some studs on this team.
- 1:00:55For sure, for sure, but not one that I would have necessarily
- 1:01:02loved to. Not a team I would have loved to
- 1:01:05have. Choosing first here, boy.
- 1:01:24Oh, ah, shoot. Oh, Nope, I can still do it.
- 1:01:30I can still do it because you know why.
- 1:01:38Because he played that position as well, didn't he?
- 1:01:44Let's confirm here just. Loading up on Hall of Farmers
- 1:01:48over there. Well, hold on, let's pump the
- 1:01:52brakes here. Because I made my selection to
- 1:02:01put Mookie Betts in, right, Because that was the position he
- 1:02:06played. Although, you know, I, I could,
- 1:02:22I could burn it here. I, I have the spot open.
- 1:02:29He played at this position in 2003.
- 1:02:33I am going to go ahead and put Miguel Cabrera.
- 1:02:39That third. At third base.
- 1:02:48Oh yeah, they're going to look at this team.
- 1:02:53They're going to look at this draft.
- 1:02:54And I, again, I can already hear it, They're going to go.
- 1:02:56Kyle would have won in the landslide, but Paul Konerko
- 1:02:59really sets Nate's team over the edge.
- 1:03:01So I'm going to give the 6535 edge to Nate.
- 1:03:05Here Miguel Juan Pierre in center.
- 1:03:16Tides are turning, my friend. The tides are turning.
- 1:03:19Yeah, it's been a rough, rough draw of the of the order.
- 1:03:26The order is what's been getting me. 2003, that was Florida
- 1:03:33Marlins. Next team we got is and you're
- 1:03:40choosing first the 2018 Boston Red Sox.
- 1:03:47Yay. So we haven't run into this
- 1:03:51issue before, but I'm assuming I can't.
- 1:03:57Take Mookie, Betsy. Right.
- 1:03:58Yeah, yeah. I don't think so.
- 1:04:01We'll just say the player is is accounted for.
- 1:04:04I would like to, but I don't think that's, I don't think
- 1:04:09that's allowed. I think you are correct in that.
- 1:04:21Let's see here I'll go. Craig Kimbrell.
- 1:04:25Oh. True, we're doing relief
- 1:04:26pitchers. That's a good call.
- 1:04:34Which may hurt my votes, by the way, just based on the last few
- 1:04:38years of performance. That's what I'm saying that's
- 1:04:41you got to take that into account.
- 1:04:43Yeah, but I ain't here for the voters.
- 1:04:45I'm here for me, you know? And are we're not doing, we're
- 1:04:49not doing manager right. You just want to stick.
- 1:04:53Yeah, not this one. Yeah, not this one, not that I
- 1:04:58was even thinking core, but I just it, I was getting down to
- 1:05:01the bottom of the board and I was like crap, we're running out
- 1:05:03of space. Give me.
- 1:05:30Oh, hold on. Kyle has his reliever,
- 1:05:38shortstop, center field and DH open.
- 1:05:46Yep, I'm going to do it. Give me Raphael Devers as my DH.
- 1:06:01I was close. I must, I must pull the trigger
- 1:06:03on somebody else. Glad I caught that.
- 1:06:07OK, I got first pick. How about that?
- 1:06:11You get Rafael Devers in a in a in a given year choosing second.
- 1:06:17I mean, that's a steal. That's just a steal.
- 1:06:22Yeah, I just didn't want them on my team, to be honest with you.
- 1:06:26You know, I mean, every now and then you just choose to put
- 1:06:29together a losing team, I guess, you know, keep, keep things fun.
- 1:06:342007 Oh, the Boston Red Sox. This is so ridiculous.
- 1:06:41How about that crazy? Have we gotten every year?
- 1:06:46All we're missing is 04. Yeah, goodness, you're up first
- 1:06:51guy. Am I up first?
- 1:06:52Yeah. All right, you went, Kimbrel.
- 1:06:58Give me what you told me. What do I need or what do I have
- 1:07:03left? You have reliever, shortstop,
- 1:07:06center, I have starter, third base, right?
- 1:07:14Oh wait, sorry, you said I have what left center.
- 1:07:19Reliever shortstop center. Reliever.
- 1:07:22Shortstop Center. Give me the.
- 1:07:37Amount of freaking Red Sox on my team is disgusting.
- 1:07:41Give me center, you said. Center.
- 1:07:47Short and reliever. Give me rest in peace, Julio
- 1:07:58Lugo. That's not who I'm going with.
- 1:08:00Give me Jonathan Papabon. I lever.
- 1:08:13Box. Have come across his name twice.
- 1:08:16I passed on the first time but I cannot wait it out just in case.
- 1:08:21So give me Josh Beckett on the mound.
- 1:08:24There you go. That's a good pick.
- 1:08:27I loved you, I. Thought about him as a Marlin.
- 1:08:30Yeah, dude was dominant. Yeah.
- 1:08:35All right. Good pick.
- 1:08:36Good pick. Wait, wait, where are we at 03?
- 1:08:39We. Went 03 Florida Marlins 2018
- 1:08:43Boston Red Sox 2007 Boston Red Sox and you are choosing first
- 1:08:48for the next year, which is your 2009 Yankees.
- 1:08:54All right, I've got third and right, well, that pretty much
- 1:09:03decides it for me. Give me a rod at third.
- 1:09:09No offense. No offense to Nick Swisher.
- 1:09:12Love me some swish but. Oh, that my my answer is already
- 1:09:18What am I? Why am I doing this?
- 1:09:22Why am I? Why am I doing this?
- 1:09:24You got short and center. My friend, we might be looking,
- 1:09:28we might be looking at A at a possible trade.
- 1:09:32We might be. Why be looking at a our first
- 1:09:35ever trade give me Jeter short. Yeah, give.
- 1:09:41Me Jeter short so that leaves me with center.
- 1:09:45And I got right field. And right field for the final
- 1:09:48round here. Center's a good one to leave for
- 1:09:52the last. It wasn't intentional.
- 1:09:55Most teams are going to have a good center fielder.
- 1:09:57Yeah, it wasn't intentional, but let's see here, 2008, that would
- 1:10:04have been the Phillies. Phillies.
- 1:10:08So who is the Phillies center fielder in 2008?
- 1:10:13Tough. Tough.
- 1:10:15What for me? Who do you need again?
- 1:10:19Right field. Who was the?
- 1:10:30You get the flying Hawaiian guy. Was he in?
- 1:10:33What was he in center though? Yeah.
- 1:10:36OK, that's what I thought, but I just want to make sure they'd
- 1:10:38stick him out in the corner. All right, Shane, there's.
- 1:10:46No other names I can slot in here, so I have to go with Mr.
- 1:10:54Jason Worth in right field. That's not bad.
- 1:10:58It's not great. I mean really either I mean
- 1:10:59neither of those pics are slam dunks, but you know, it could
- 1:11:03could have been a lot worse. All right, that'll do it.
- 1:11:08All right, so let's talk trades here because I I feel like we
- 1:11:12might be on the cusp of our first ever trade.
- 1:11:15Yeah, which means that we have to go 2 for two because like,
- 1:11:20you're not going to, you're not going to go 1:00 to 1:00.
- 1:11:23Corey Seeger for Derek Jeter, You're not going to do that.
- 1:11:28No, I mean in that instance, no, but I mean other, I mean
- 1:11:32elsewhere around it. And I haven't even really looked
- 1:11:34at him in depth yet, But I mean, there could be a scenario where
- 1:11:36you could go one for one. And it makes sense.
- 1:11:41But typically, yeah, I feel like it would be two for two or more.
- 1:11:44I think the only position you're willing to trade would be your
- 1:11:48shortstop and your catcher, but you don't see Sal Perez that
- 1:11:54much more valuable than an AJ Pierzynski, do you?
- 1:11:57Don't try. Stop trying to manipulate me you
- 1:12:00little. I know your games, I know your
- 1:12:05games. You could.
- 1:12:06Be willing to part with a Shane Victorino for a Juan Pierre.
- 1:12:14I don't want Juan Pierre. That's crazy.
- 1:12:20You know it's not Juan Pierre over Shane Victorino.
- 1:12:23It's not worth making a trade for unless there's more players
- 1:12:26involved. There's no movement that's going
- 1:12:29to happen here. There's no one you're going to
- 1:12:30come off of. All right, I like Sal Perez at
- 1:12:35catcher. Yeah, in a 2 for two situation,
- 1:12:39would you move Sal Perez for AJ Przynski plus another move?
- 1:12:45Do you would you be OK with having Pierzynski behind the
- 1:12:48dish? I'd be OK with Pierzynski behind
- 1:12:51the dish, but again. All right, all right, all right,
- 1:13:00all right. Hear me out.
- 1:13:01Hear me out, hear me out. How do you feel?
- 1:13:04Because I know you want your guy.
- 1:13:05I know you want your guy. How do you feel about?
- 1:13:11A I know what you're doing. You want a three for three.
- 1:13:13Shut up. Do you want You want David
- 1:13:16Ortiz, Sal Perez, David Ortiz and Corey Seger for Rafael
- 1:13:23Devers, Derek Jeter and AJ Pierzynski.
- 1:13:28No, I can't do that. What's the hold up?
- 1:13:34David Ortiz, Derek. Jeter.
- 1:13:37I hear ya. I hear you.
- 1:13:40I just think that. Is it, well, let me ask you this
- 1:13:44is there is there sort of like they do in the fantasy baseball
- 1:13:49app when somebody's per sends you a trade proposal and then
- 1:13:52you're like, you can choose like which which guys you want to
- 1:13:56kind of keep in the conversation and which guys are like, no,
- 1:13:58I'm, I'm, I'm good. Is there room to work here?
- 1:14:03Like we can amend that that package.
- 1:14:10I would love for somehow to force you to have a rod on your
- 1:14:14team, but you're not going to do that because Miguel Cabrera.
- 1:14:28Well, well, here's the thing. How bad do you want David Ortiz?
- 1:14:31Here's the thing, I could I remember I slotted Miggy at
- 1:14:34third by default because he logged innings there that year.
- 1:14:39But. We this is where we can't be, we
- 1:14:42can't be switching positions, can we?
- 1:14:44No, you if, if it's because I I could have slotted him and left
- 1:14:48if my left left field slot was open.
- 1:14:52So what if what if we did? What if we just like swapped
- 1:15:08entire teams? What if what if, what if we did?
- 1:15:13Oh, this is tricky, 'cause I'll look, I'll take a rod like that.
- 1:15:20I'm trying to win a draft here, so I'm not, I'm not going to say
- 1:15:23I'm not willing. I mean, I have Derek Jeter on my
- 1:15:25team. What I mean?
- 1:15:26What does that say about me? All right, all right, Hold on,
- 1:15:30Hold on. Hold on, Hold on.
- 1:15:31On. Look, my, I don't know if you're
- 1:15:35going to do that. Look, no, no, no, hold on.
- 1:15:37Hear me out. Hear me out.
- 1:15:38My really my only untouchables at this rate, I would say just
- 1:15:44for the sake of of of my team and an image protecting an image
- 1:15:49here. Sure, I feel like Mookie Betts
- 1:15:52and Justin Verlander, I want to keep just because I I like the
- 1:15:55strength of those positions. But the names that I also like
- 1:15:59such as are Rafael Devers and Albert pools.
- 1:16:02I'd be willing to move or maybe not Albert Pools because you got
- 1:16:04Paul Konarko, but like other Jeter, for example, you've got
- 1:16:09you've Got Talent at at those positions.
- 1:16:11So as much as I like Devers, I'd be willing to move a guy like
- 1:16:14that. So just keep that in mind.
- 1:16:17What were you? What were you going to say?
- 1:16:18You you had something that you might offer.
- 1:16:26Yeah, but Mookie was involved, so.
- 1:16:29OK, we'll throw it out. I mean, I still stand by what I
- 1:16:32said, but throw, I'm just curious.
- 1:16:33Throw out what you what you were going to put out there and I
- 1:16:38swear if you say Jason worth I'm I'm ending this call right now.
- 1:16:41He was going to be in that. I was going to say if I if I put
- 1:16:47in David Ortiz and I get Miguel Cabrera, you could you could
- 1:16:51move Devers to 3rd to create room for David Ortiz at DH and
- 1:17:07then. But in that deal, you're saying
- 1:17:13I'm getting David Ortiz and Jason Worth?
- 1:17:15And then Jason Worth and a rod for Jetermookie and Miguel
- 1:17:32Cabrera. Any other hall of farmers you
- 1:17:34want for my team? You want me to include
- 1:17:37Verlander's just like a as a thank you or?
- 1:17:39Whatever that is. That was such a scammy pick
- 1:17:42anyway so I don't want to hear it.
- 1:17:44All right. Can we go back to the deal that
- 1:17:46I feel like made the most sense that we could we could make
- 1:17:49tweaks to Sal Perez, David Ortiz and who?
- 1:17:55What was the other one I said? Oh, and Corey Seeger for Derek
- 1:18:03Jeter, Rafael Rafael Devers and AJ Pierzynski.
- 1:18:09Let's build off of that because you want your guy.
- 1:18:12I want my guy, and I want to make this work.
- 1:18:16So what are we doing here? Let's figure this out.
- 1:18:19I'm not leaving until a trade's been made.
- 1:18:26Replace Miguel Cabrera with Devers and you got a deal.
- 1:18:38So I'd be getting Sal, Perez, Sieger and Ortiz for Pierzynski.
- 1:18:45Jeter and Miguel Cabrera. Sal Perez is a future Hall of
- 1:18:51Famer, no? No, I got you.
- 1:18:53No, no, I'm trying to hold on. Let me actually let me just mark
- 1:18:57these down. Sal, Perez or you said Cabrera
- 1:19:04and Jeter. OK, you got a deal.
- 1:19:14Handshake, Handshake. All right, We made a trade.
- 1:19:20All right, so all. Right.
- 1:19:22So that gives you. Goes here, he goes here, he goes
- 1:19:27here. So you're putting Miggy at DH?
- 1:19:33I'm putting Miggy at DH and you have to move Devers to 3rd.
- 1:19:48All right, so so Devers is now here.
- 1:19:55Who's my DHDH? Is David Ortiz.
- 1:19:59And Corey Seeger's my shortstop. All right.
- 1:20:04I like that. I like that.
- 1:20:09All right. So the final rosters, as it
- 1:20:12were. Behind the dish, Nate has AJ
- 1:20:16Pierzynski. At shortstop, he has Derek
- 1:20:19Jeter, which I didn't write down.
- 1:20:21At second base, he has Jose Altuve.
- 1:20:24At his DH, he has Miggy. First base Paul Conerco, left
- 1:20:28field Matt Holiday, center field Juan Pierre, right.
- 1:20:32Excuse me, relief pitcher Craig Kimbrel.
- 1:20:34Starting pitcher Josh Beckett. Third base, A Rod right field.
- 1:20:37Jason Werth for Kyle, Alex Gordon and left.
- 1:20:41Mookie Betts and right. Justin Verlander as a starting
- 1:20:44pitcher, Dustin Pedroia at second.
- 1:20:52Sal Perez as a catcher, Albert Pujols at first.
- 1:20:55Rafael Devers at third, Dave Ortiz at DH.
- 1:20:59Jonathan Papalbon, Very socks heavy.
- 1:21:02Relief pitcher Jonathan Papalbon, Ori Seager, shortstop,
- 1:21:06centerfield Shane Victorino. Feels even, feels real close to
- 1:21:12even now. Feel like the odds got evened
- 1:21:15out a little bit. I like that.
- 1:21:21I mean, it feels even. Where were the odds?
- 1:21:24I thought there, I thought that was a better trade for me.
- 1:21:29I I mean I disagree but. Yeah.
- 1:21:34I mean, Sal Perez, David Ortiz and Corey Seeger.
- 1:21:42I mean. Jeter and Miggy, Yeah, I mean.
- 1:21:45Not for sure for sure, but yeah. But to be able to honestly,
- 1:21:55offloading AJ Brzezinski was was huge.
- 1:21:58I I needed. To get it was big.
- 1:21:59I need to get Brzezinski off my team, OK?
- 1:22:01That'll do it. That was my mentality for Jason
- 1:22:03Worth, but didn't have any such luck.
- 1:22:08I mean, is there anything, is there anything you you want to
- 1:22:10do before we? Close here, Just swap center
- 1:22:17field and right field. What do you mean?
- 1:22:23Give me Shane Victory on Mookie Betts.
- 1:22:24You can have Juan Pierre and Jason Werth.
- 1:22:26No, I don't know why you think Juan Pierre is like this elite
- 1:22:31God. Come on now.
- 1:22:33Oh. Stop.
- 1:22:34This is where you're you're getting back in your
- 1:22:36manipulative waves. I think I saw you stole 62 bases
- 1:22:40that year. Well, what does that do for me?
- 1:22:44What does that do for me? You're still going to lose by at
- 1:22:47least 15%. No doubt, No doubt, Yeah.
- 1:22:50Because they're going to look at your roster and be like, yeah, I
- 1:22:53mean, I know how I know Kyle has Hall of Famer slash future Hall
- 1:22:57of Farmers up and down that lineup.
- 1:22:58But you know, Jason Worth and Wright really, really sets him
- 1:23:05apart. Really sets him apart.
- 1:23:09Ridiculous. Tired of it.
- 1:23:11Let's get out of here. Let's get out of here.
- 1:23:16We'll see you guys too. Don't get chasing curveballs.
- 1:23:21Love you all, and as always, looking forward to talking more
- 1:23:23baseball with you guys soon. Until next time, stay filthy.
