- 0:20be safe for work. Hello and welcome. This is Casey. Heires back
- 0:26at the Millionaire Dentnist Podcast in studio with co host Jared Bridgeman. Casey,
- 0:30how you doing today? Doing great? Thanks for asking. I like your
- 0:33like that teal colored shirt you got on today, very very sensual. It
- 0:39just spoke to me today. Yeah, I mean spring's happening. It's nice
- 0:44to kind of wear the brighter colors and it brings your mood up. I
- 0:47think fifties in the morning or seventies in the afternoon. This is my kind
- 0:51of weather man. Got to be versatile. Yeah. Yeah. And I
- 0:54collect quarter zips, I've been told got a lot of them. Well,
- 0:58there's always a hobby for somebody. Casey, how do you want to start
- 1:03this? How do you want to start today? Do you feel like you're
- 1:06doing okay at podcasting? Is okay good enough? See, yeah, we
- 1:11just talked on podcasters. We just talked. Yeah, well we met for
- 1:17a brief three minute show prep, right, but it was good. Yep.
- 1:23Hopefully it manifests in our conversations. I hope so. And it kind
- 1:26of spun out of and I kind of want to get off on this,
- 1:27get off, get on this whole thing of I was telling you about my
- 1:32son. My son's in soccer, my daughter's in volleyball, and my son
- 1:34is a huge sports head. He's six years old. We went to a
- 1:38birthday party last weekend and with some of the parents were like, Oh,
- 1:42my kids talk about your son and how much he talks about sports. And
- 1:45you're a big sports guy too, Huh. I'm like not really, I'm
- 1:48not a sports guy. And so you started joking about, you know,
- 1:52are you going to do travel sports in the future, and it kind of
- 1:56went from there. That's kind of what sparked this whole podcast episode. Today.
- 2:00A lot of listeners can relate to travel sports because it's now an obsession
- 2:04that's swept the country. Yeah, a little bit of a racket and it's
- 2:08a business and it's money, but neither here nor they are nice opportunities for
- 2:12kids, But talking about is it okay to just make the travel team?
- 2:17Right? Right? So when that happens, time and money those are probably
- 2:22people's most valuable resources. Yay, your kid makes a travel team, You're
- 2:25gonna pay a couple thousand bucks minimum. Your weekends are shot. If you
- 2:30don't live in a mecca of like good resources and venues for host them,
- 2:34you're then traveling multiple hours to watch your kid bedge it. And if if
- 2:38they made the team and that's all they did and they're not playing and thriving,
- 2:42and like, what are your thoughts on that? You know, personally,
- 2:46I think that would be that'd be a hard thing to do, Like,
- 2:51Yay, they made the team, Like that's an accomplishment in itself.
- 2:53Don't get me wrong, because people do get cut from that. But again,
- 2:55like are you are you traveling to watch them warm the bench? Is
- 2:59that enough? Is that enough for you? Is that enough for your kid?
- 3:00And there's a phase I think like younger, that's a good way to
- 3:04get better. Sure, my daughter's playing some basketball a little rec league,
- 3:08doing good, didn't work on it, next season, didn't do as good.
- 3:13She made a travel team. But now she's getting humble, but there's
- 3:16some good to it. But the path is not to be satisfied. It's
- 3:20how do okay, I need to work on my left hand. I've got
- 3:22to be able to do this. I got to get better. But if
- 3:23she didn't have that mentality, I don't think I would just have her on
- 3:28these teams and say that's good enough and pretend that that's good enough. Right,
- 3:32right, So let me let me ask you. Yes, she has
- 3:35done a punch or two in a game girls twice or size. She does
- 3:38not like bullies. She's not the biggest, but when she sees somebody doing
- 3:44something wrong, she goes and confronts them. Good. It'll catch up to
- 3:46her eventually, But right now she's h you know, she's at that where
- 3:50it's like she's the sheriff. You know, somebody throws a punch, she
- 3:53goes and throws, you know, a ribshot with the forearm. That's awesome.
- 3:59And tying that into into dentistry, is it is it? You know,
- 4:01let's say, is it just okay? Is it just enough to just
- 4:05have a practice? Yeah, Like, like being a dentist is a good
- 4:08accomplishment? Is that enough? Right? And I've heard practice owners. Well
- 4:12you know, I'll be okay, Well, yeah, let's let's peel that
- 4:15oneon back a little bit. So you go to high school, great undergraduate
- 4:18degree, fantastic, go to dental school, massive achievement, You've you've surpassed
- 4:25most and then well maybe some specialize you're even separating yourself there. And then
- 4:30maybe you're an associate and you're a practice owner, and so you've achieved a
- 4:33lot, right, But then a lot of times what we talk about is
- 4:38the business side and how that can get neglected because they're not you're not trained
- 4:42in it. And so that's kind of the premise of is it is it?
- 4:45Is it okay? Is it just good enough to be a dentist or
- 4:46a specialist? You know, Casey, from from our interactions throughout you know,
- 4:50a couple of years I've been talking with you, speaking with you,
- 4:53I would say that's a no, it's not enough for these overachievers. A
- 4:57lot of times it's not, but it's path the least resistance. So instead
- 5:01of focusing on how to have an incredibly efficient, incredibly profitable practice or business
- 5:08model, that's a really hard undertaking, and so then it's almost distraction and
- 5:14then they go into learning new procedures. That's awesome, right, then getting
- 5:19new equipment, get training on it, get trained on it to be more
- 5:23efficient. And then that void still isn't filled. And so then well,
- 5:28I'm going to get involved in the State Dental Association again. Amazing. Sure,
- 5:30maybe go on mission trips and do a bunch of free industry again.
- 5:33All these things are really really good things. But what we've noticed is it's
- 5:38kind of like just making the travel team. You separated yourself by making the
- 5:42team, but you're kind of ignoring. Hey, I want to work hard
- 5:46and play and start and score and help the team. I'm just going to
- 5:49be content being on it, because being busy does that always mean its successful?
- 5:55No? And the tie in here is I just wish practice owners would
- 5:59can continue that pursuit of excellence that they've had their whole life, but focus
- 6:04on their money, right, sub sixty overhead, double your income, retirement
- 6:09planning, retirement savings, get real surgical with that retire years earlier with eight,
- 6:15ten, twelve, fifteen million dollars, get that house in order with
- 6:17your achievement itch drive yep, right, then go do these other things as
- 6:23well. I mean, if you have that if you have that personality and
- 6:26that drive that you do want to go out and help and volunteer and do
- 6:29these kind of things. Like I really do think that's honorable and that's really
- 6:32really cool and awesome. But if you are scraping by yourself to do these
- 6:39things, well, all these things are honorable. I don't want to beat
- 6:41up on them, but there's an order to things. And so often people
- 6:44don't know how to maximize the profitability of their practice, and so they sort
- 6:47of ignore that a little bit. It bothers them, but they get they
- 6:51do all these other things so that when they meet with peers and friends and
- 6:56oh, well we're doing this and we're doing this and we're learning this,
- 6:59and again all honorable. Yep, but it shouldn't be good enough. Let's
- 7:02just come out and say, right, it shouldn't be good enough. Are
- 7:05you? Are you learning these skills and things that are going to improve your
- 7:09practice and improve your your bank account, improve all those things? You know,
- 7:12going back to the travel team thing, you know, is your kid
- 7:15working on the swing or working on their shot or are you focused on making
- 7:18sure they have the best cleats in town? Yeah, no, that's a
- 7:20good point, right, having the best equipment or the best of this or
- 7:25the best of that, that's that's all good, yep. But make sure
- 7:29your fundamentals are right. Start with your foundation. Make sure your practice and
- 7:33your money and your retirement planning are pristine, that they're in the right area.
- 7:39That you don't feel bad every week because you're seeing what you produce.
- 7:43But you also know how much you make and it's not it's not or you
- 7:46dropped a bunch of money on some new equipment that's a close hangar later you
- 7:49know, are that brand new pair of cleats that the kid wears twice inside
- 7:55the sport's not for them anymore? Yeah? Yeah, And unfortunately, I
- 7:59think a lot of high achieving dentists and specials would say, no, it's
- 8:01not it's not good enough or just okay to be where I am. I
- 8:05want to go to the next level. How do I get there? But
- 8:09then they spend decades with distractions and all the things that we've mentioned that are
- 8:13honorable. How else are you going to be the president of basketball? You
- 8:16know, you got to keep working on it. The president of basketball,
- 8:20I don't know what that is. That's about not as much I know what
- 8:24the game, But no, I do you're I'm not going to say.
- 8:26I was about to say, you're onto something, but you already know this.
- 8:30We've been onto this as a company, as a firm, our advisors
- 8:33and everybody else knows these things, and it's tough to lead people to that
- 8:39water. Yeah, we know what the distractions are, we know what the
- 8:43self deceit is, and again, most of them are honorable things. But
- 8:48it's it's sad that it then towards the end of the career from a financial
- 8:52standpoint, when people maybe their hands are in their eyes, aren't what they
- 8:56used to be. They have they haven't got their financial house in order,
- 8:58and they're not in a good spot, but they've been distracted with all these
- 9:03other things. It's to throw another cliche, it's, you know, the
- 9:05road to hell's paved with good intentions. No, yeah, I mean that's
- 9:11uh. I was trying to think of another little cliche to throw it in
- 9:13there, But that's it's all. It's all very true. And again,
- 9:18give away free dentistry on your terms, you know, volunteer for dental societies
- 9:22and study clubs in your state, associations and learn new technique and new equipment.
- 9:28That's all great, but not at a sacrifice to yourself. Yeah,
- 9:31yeah, no, that's it. It's like somebody that goes and volunteers in
- 9:33a homeless shelter, but their wife and kids are not in a good place.
- 9:39They're doing bad things. It's like, get your own house in order
- 9:41before you go out and do all these other great things as like a not
- 9:45a moral high road in a bad way, but like all these things that
- 9:46make you feel better. But in reality, you know, you need to
- 9:48get your own house and order first. Then you go out and spread it.
- 9:54And you know, the amount of people I talk to, Oh,
- 9:56I'm you know, producing two million, I'm collecting one five and I'm making
- 9:58three. It's like that's gross. Yeah, that's not that's not good.
- 10:05Why is that? And normally they say, you're the first person that's ever
- 10:07asked me that I don't know, and it's pissing me off. Yeah.
- 10:11But it's easy to be busy, yes, and that's not in Denis Chets
- 10:15across the board, busyness is like a badge of honor for people to avoid
- 10:20talking about reality, real things and the core of issues. And the reason
- 10:24for that would be just because I can be the same way at times.
- 10:26It's because it's it's almost like a checklist being busy. You feel the accomplishment
- 10:31of doing something, but did it actually mean anything. Yeah, yeah,
- 10:35no, that's that's a very that's a very good point er. Thank you,
- 10:39Jared with your bird shirt. Ah, and we're in a dolphin shirt
- 10:43today. Looks like looks like a bird. Yeah. There's little birds and
- 10:48leaves and stuff on here like camo. Yeah, so I can hide with
- 10:52some and avery. Well. In another example of this, maybe you've gone
- 10:56to a gym and you've seen somebody that boy they work on their shoulders,
- 10:58their chest, their trysteps and their biceps, and then they've got like little
- 11:01chicken legs stick never skip leg day. No, And it's just everything's about
- 11:05balance. And you know, for us, we just want our listeners to
- 11:11challenge their existing teams to be better, or attend one of our events,
- 11:16or have the courage to have a phone call. Because again, on average
- 11:20people they get this, they get this right. Within three years, their
- 11:24overhead drops eleven percent, income goes up twenty five percent. Most of the
- 11:26time it doubles. There's a clear plan to retirement. People know what they
- 11:31need to do when they when they can retire answers they've never had, you
- 11:37know, and all this adds to, you know, a side benefit of
- 11:41people being less stressed, getting more sleep, spending more time with their family
- 11:43and friends. Time spent with family and friends is more rich and joyful because
- 11:48you know, you didn't skip leg day, right, your house is in
- 11:52order. Therefore, now you can go out and spread joy and good things
- 11:54to other people. But yeah, dentistry is just it's such a coy industry,
- 12:01for lack of a better word, because such hard work and achievement and
- 12:05amazing treatment for patients, but then some o the other things just get left
- 12:11to the side, and it's you know again, we see, we hear
- 12:13it. We hear the self lives does the seat the distraction, We hear
- 12:18all that. But after twenty plus years of experience as a firm, we
- 12:24know how to handle and tackle those issues and those problems. And you'll find
- 12:28that out if you attend one of our events which we have coming up.
- 12:31We've got one, we've got something coming up in Atlanta, Georgia. We've
- 12:35got Boston coming up. We're about to launch Saint Louis area, Kansas City.
- 12:39We've got one coming up in our hometown area of Indianapolis. There's a
- 12:43lot of really exciting things that we are doing to just really help and educate
- 12:50our friends in people out there. Let's just get real with the dental community.
- 12:54Now here are the real chance. There's a lot of challenges here.
- 12:56They are. Here's what good looks like. What are you doing to get
- 12:58there? And if you're not, you're only going to hurt yourself. Yep,
- 13:01you're only going to sacrifice your future, your retirement, your legacy,
- 13:03your family. At some point that chickens come home the roost. We've done
- 13:07podcasts on that before. But you know, be the person that is curious
- 13:09in your late thirties and or forties. Don't wait till your late fifties and
- 13:13sixties, right, and then we go and then go wow, Just think
- 13:18if I could have done this sooner, if I had done this twenty years
- 13:20ago, I'd be said, yeah, yeah, we're telling you now,
- 13:22do it now. Don't skip leg day. That's right all right for Quadrantsadvisory

- 13:35one, maybe one of our other one of our other ones. Do one
