- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. The world's
- 0:15Speaker 1: welcome to Patrick gets Unfiltered. This is We're on live video,
- 0:22Speaker 1: all all of it. Yeah video, this is audio. I
- 0:24Speaker 1: want to talk into the mic. Yeah, this is how
- 0:26Speaker 1: the sausage is made. Nobody wants to see your sausage.
- 0:30Speaker 1: But that puts the sausage away. I think Joe Cardona
- 0:32Speaker 1: was the gippers, and then that's its scenarios. One for
- 0:35Speaker 1: Joe akers away boys like you can watch Red Zone
- 0:39Speaker 1: and then recap each game into video. He's taken. Sure
- 0:42Speaker 1: he's complimenting me, but you know what he's really doing.
- 0:44Speaker 1: I'm gonna take that personally. I did not see any
- 0:46Speaker 1: limping today, but I will say this and the guy
- 0:48Speaker 1: that replaced you at Plus, I'm sorry yet that again, Lazar,
- 0:56Speaker 1: I don't I don't want any of Lazar Colin. Colin
- 1:00Speaker 1: is a scary place. He had like some sort of
- 1:02Speaker 1: you know, people are like, what a bunch of pussies. Yeah,
- 1:06Speaker 1: we could say that back then. I don't know if
- 1:08Speaker 1: you could say that, Fireman. I've maintained that one game
- 1:11Speaker 1: lead for like three weeks in a row. That's because
- 1:13Speaker 1: Mike picks everything you pay. I go. First friend is
- 1:16Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered, fueled by Duncan. All right, welcome to Patriots Unfiltered.
- 1:23Speaker 1: It is Tuesday, in a real Tuesday here at Gillette Stadium,
- 1:28Speaker 1: and it's deuce. It's me. Paul will be here eventually. Uh,
- 1:32Speaker 1: he found a camera, so he's delayed. Evan will be
- 1:35Speaker 1: here for the second hour. So big show here Tuesday.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Matt's in the booth making it all happen. And uh,
- 1:42Speaker 1: we thought that the Patriots had found, um, you know,
- 1:48Speaker 1: heartwrenching way to lose the game in Vegas, and they
- 1:50Speaker 1: certainly did. But they found another way to do it
- 1:53Speaker 1: on Sunday. Ye fumble on Saturday, I should say a
- 1:58Speaker 1: little more conventional method. It wasn't everyone to their minds
- 2:00Speaker 1: start trying to lateral it. But he was involved in
- 2:04Speaker 1: both of those endings. I know, well, I mean, and
- 2:08Speaker 1: they're not gonna Coaches aren't giving them any flak for it,
- 2:10Speaker 1: and he's trying to fight for extra yards. They're okay
- 2:12Speaker 1: with it. So at this point, what can you really do?
- 2:15Speaker 1: I mean, he's been everything for you. It's right now
- 2:18Speaker 1: hard to be mad at him, but still I do
- 2:20Speaker 1: think he started the lateral party out of nowhere, went
- 2:22Speaker 1: rogue against the Raiders, and then yeah, you know, it's
- 2:25Speaker 1: just the game is in your hands. You got you.
- 2:27Speaker 1: I mean, everybody I think thought, she's the Patriots are
- 2:30Speaker 1: somehow going to escape with a win after looking as
- 2:33Speaker 1: bad as they ever have them. And they were, they were,
- 2:35Speaker 1: you know, they were in perfect situation. Yeah, the clock
- 2:39Speaker 1: was on their side, they had three timeouts, they're they're
- 2:41Speaker 1: on the five yard line. They're gonna get you know,
- 2:44Speaker 1: we think, you know, four cracks at it to win
- 2:47Speaker 1: the game, to win the game, and they could tell.
- 2:49Speaker 1: They were just I mean, they're selling their own heads
- 2:51Speaker 1: in the red zone regardless. But it was just run it,
- 2:54Speaker 1: run it, run it again. They just kept running. I
- 2:56Speaker 1: know some people thought that was too much. I mean,
- 2:59Speaker 1: I don't know. I mean, Romanda Shriven Stevens should be
- 3:02Speaker 1: able to carry the ball four times without fumbling it.
- 3:04Speaker 1: But another frustrating ending to a team. And I think,
- 3:08Speaker 1: you know, if the offense wasn't this bad, which I
- 3:11Speaker 1: think is clearly the headline of the whole season, you know,
- 3:14Speaker 1: you might be talking about a team that just can't
- 3:16Speaker 1: quite get over the hump in close games because I
- 3:18Speaker 1: think that's been conventionally looking at the team, that's you know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: been something they've kind of taken turns being bad at. Defensively,
- 3:25Speaker 1: you know, conserraders, they couldn't get a last stop, and offensively,
- 3:28Speaker 1: you got a chance to make the last play, couldn't
- 3:30Speaker 1: do that either. So I don't think we'll ever get
- 3:32Speaker 1: to that point to really discuss that as a legitimate
- 3:35Speaker 1: characteristic of the twenty twenty two Patriots because of how
- 3:37Speaker 1: bad they are on offense and how you know, inept
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's been the whole season, but there is a touch
- 3:41Speaker 1: of that of a team that just, you know, had
- 3:43Speaker 1: they had a little bit more clutch, they probably have
- 3:45Speaker 1: a couple more wins here. You know, even despite as
- 3:47Speaker 1: bad as they look. I mean, it's it's crazy to say,
- 3:49Speaker 1: but it's true, despite as bad as they look, and
- 3:52Speaker 1: in the loss, they still have a path to the
- 3:55Speaker 1: players win. I mean, they don't even have to win both.
- 3:58Speaker 1: They can win both. That's the I can't believe. The
- 4:00Speaker 1: amazing part is that. I mean, I don't think it's
- 4:03Speaker 1: amazing that they have a path. I mean, the Raiders,
- 4:05Speaker 1: the six and nine they have a path too. But
- 4:07Speaker 1: the Patriots just have to win games, right right, That's
- 4:10Speaker 1: that's the amazing part. Yeah, they haven't beaten those two
- 4:13Speaker 1: teams in a while. Yeah, two wins in they're in
- 4:16Speaker 1: um or a win and other things happening in they're
- 4:18Speaker 1: in um So it's you gotta win this one in
- 4:23Speaker 1: this one, playing a meaningful, meaningful game this coming up,
- 4:26Speaker 1: and we're going to get into Miami probably a lot tomorrow.
- 4:29Speaker 1: But you know two is on concussion protocol. Um So,
- 4:34Speaker 1: like Paul says, I don't do I really need to
- 4:37Speaker 1: say it? Did You don't really expect him to play?
- 4:39Speaker 1: Did you? They never beat him? Oh why would he play? Right?
- 4:43Speaker 1: So it always the Patriots, right, Yeah, I guess so.
- 4:47Speaker 1: I caught the tail end of your conversation, and I
- 4:50Speaker 1: would just say, like the clutch thing. We just talked
- 4:53Speaker 1: about this in All Access too, Like, you know, it's
- 4:55Speaker 1: frustrating to see them continuously shoot themselves in the foot
- 4:59Speaker 1: with the game on the line. And I think that's
- 5:02Speaker 1: a problem obviously. I mean, but I think that if
- 5:06Speaker 1: they could find a way to play, but they shoot
- 5:09Speaker 1: themselves in the foot throughout the game, well this is
- 5:12Speaker 1: what I'm saying is there's a pattern that's developed, and
- 5:16Speaker 1: it started last year. It started after the bye last
- 5:19Speaker 1: year in Indie. It's like against a good opponent, fall
- 5:23Speaker 1: away behind, you know, do a couple of things, well,
- 5:28Speaker 1: find a way so like the next twenty minutes, if
- 5:31Speaker 1: we absolutely do nothing wrong, we'll have a chance to win.
- 5:36Speaker 1: And then that happens, and then at the very end,
- 5:38Speaker 1: you're not able to make the last play that gives
- 5:40Speaker 1: you a chance to win. Right, I think is grossly
- 5:44Speaker 1: overlooking the problem. The problem is they get grossly outplayed
- 5:47Speaker 1: in most of these games against better competition. And that's
- 5:50Speaker 1: why you're in a situation where I need the other
- 5:53Speaker 1: team to give me a pick six. I need to
- 5:55Speaker 1: get a forty eight yard hill Mary touchdown. I need
- 5:57Speaker 1: to have the other team fumble when they're trying to
- 5:59Speaker 1: run the clock out, and then I need to go
- 6:01Speaker 1: in and score at the end. And I just couldn't
- 6:04Speaker 1: score at the end, you know, and everybody's like, well,
- 6:07Speaker 1: Romondre Stevenson fumbled out was forward progress up? You know? Right,
- 6:11Speaker 1: That's why I'm not even upset up. But the problem
- 6:13Speaker 1: is not the problem is you know, allowing four hundred
- 6:16Speaker 1: and fifty yards of offense and really not even getting
- 6:18Speaker 1: in their way for thirty eight minutes. Then you played
- 6:22Speaker 1: ridiculously well down the stretch. Like, I give the defense
- 6:25Speaker 1: a lot of credit for picking itself up off the mat,
- 6:29Speaker 1: but it would have been nice if they were competitive
- 6:31Speaker 1: earlier in the game. It would have been nice if
- 6:33Speaker 1: the offense had been competitive at it really any point
- 6:35Speaker 1: all year. Yeah, you know, like the offense remains the
- 6:39Speaker 1: number one issue. But like I just think to say, well,
- 6:42Speaker 1: that's again, they should have won because they ended the
- 6:44Speaker 1: game on the five yard line and fumbled. Yeah, yeah,
- 6:46Speaker 1: it's again. They could have stolen. But because you played
- 6:49Speaker 1: so poorly for the vast majority of the game that
- 6:52Speaker 1: one fumble cost you the game. Think about think about
- 6:54Speaker 1: it from another team's perspective, the Vikings game when they
- 6:58Speaker 1: came back from thirty three. What if, like they that
- 7:01Speaker 1: come back had fallen short. There's no way you could say, well,
- 7:04Speaker 1: that's a game the Viking should have won. No, of course,
- 7:06Speaker 1: not course not Like like if Matt Ryan gets the
- 7:10Speaker 1: if not not to go all forward progress on you,
- 7:14Speaker 1: but if Matt Ryan was given forward progress on his
- 7:16Speaker 1: quarterback sneak right, you lose and no one's saying that's
- 7:20Speaker 1: a game the Vikings should have won, right, right, right,
- 7:23Speaker 1: you put yourself in a hole. And then when you
- 7:24Speaker 1: just think of like the litany of errors by the Bengals,
- 7:28Speaker 1: now some of these were caused by the Patriots. Yeah,
- 7:31Speaker 1: you have three turnovers, including a pick six, You missed
- 7:35Speaker 1: two extra points and a field goal. You dropped two
- 7:37Speaker 1: potential touchdowns and allowed to forty eight yard hill mary
- 7:39Speaker 1: on third and twenty nine and one right and one. Yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 1: Like individually those players would cost a team a game. Yeah.
- 7:49Speaker 1: Like the record for a team while recording a defensive
- 7:51Speaker 1: touchdown is like over seventy five winning percentage. Patriots are
- 7:55Speaker 1: one and two the last three weeks while scoring a
- 7:57Speaker 1: defensive touchdown. Like the defense is doing its job, Like,
- 8:02Speaker 1: I mean they're not playing great defense, but they're making
- 8:04Speaker 1: big plays to score points. Right, that's huge, and they
- 8:08Speaker 1: can't win finding ways to keep the game right competitive? Yeah, yeah,
- 8:13Speaker 1: I just think there's a big difference between almost could
- 8:15Speaker 1: have stolen it and should have won. There's a big gap.
- 8:18Speaker 1: They should have beaten the Raiders. I mean, you have
- 8:21Speaker 1: a seven point lead with less than two minutes left,
- 8:23Speaker 1: close it out and you couldn't. You couldn't close up.
- 8:25Speaker 1: That's a game you should have won. Yeah, so we're
- 8:29Speaker 1: left with, you know, the same problems we've had all year.
- 8:33Speaker 1: And you know, I said it on the post game show.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I've said it before. We are not watching and witnessing
- 8:40Speaker 1: a normal NFL passing offense. We're not. It's a it's
- 8:44Speaker 1: as bad as it's it's dysfunctional, it really is. I mean,
- 8:48Speaker 1: at least with Can, it was very clear what the
- 8:51Speaker 1: problem was. He just couldn't get it, couldn't throw physically,
- 8:57Speaker 1: he just wasn't there anymore. Here. The problems are from
- 9:02Speaker 1: the top down. You know. It's it's unbelievable what we're seeing. Um.
- 9:07Speaker 1: And you know you can say, what were your offensive line? Okay,
- 9:10Speaker 1: you know they they're they're thin depth wise, um. And
- 9:14Speaker 1: you know, Cole Strange isn't as good as we thought
- 9:16Speaker 1: he would be is his rookie year and blah blah.
- 9:19Speaker 1: But it's it hasn't been a total disaster on the
- 9:22Speaker 1: offensive line. This is coaching, And I think coaching is
- 9:28Speaker 1: a B and C and then talent is D and
- 9:32Speaker 1: mac talent and mac is is the other part of it. Yeah,
- 9:35Speaker 1: you know, I know, well, I bet it's it's I mean,
- 9:42Speaker 1: the general point. I just I totally agree with. I
- 9:44Speaker 1: just I find it hard. You know, I have my
- 9:46Speaker 1: issues with all kinds of pieces on this offense right now,
- 9:49Speaker 1: and and you know, to start with Mac. But I
- 9:50Speaker 1: just I have trouble, just like I have trouble getting
- 9:53Speaker 1: past the offense to talk about anything else on the team,
- 9:55Speaker 1: I have trouble getting past the design of the offense.
- 9:57Speaker 1: The you know, how this has all come together. I mean,
- 10:00Speaker 1: Paul and I were even talking on the I don't
- 10:01Speaker 1: know if it was on the show yesterday or off it,
- 10:03Speaker 1: but it was just like one week, yeah, one guy
- 10:05Speaker 1: kind of step up, has kind of a good game.
- 10:07Speaker 1: Then he disappeared for four weeks. Then you know, it's
- 10:09Speaker 1: just an constant rotation. And I don't know who the
- 10:11Speaker 1: first all twenty two analysts was that caught onto this.
- 10:14Speaker 1: I know Evan was early talking about spacing how it's
- 10:17Speaker 1: just terrible. But it came to fruition in this game,
- 10:22Speaker 1: to Donnas, Smith and Hunter Henry running into each other.
- 10:24Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, and and now I've seen Giardi
- 10:27Speaker 1: and I think Alafsky and a bunch of others talking
- 10:30Speaker 1: about Kurt wanted talking about spacing and layers and all
- 10:33Speaker 1: this stuff. And you know, now everyone's talking about it
- 10:36Speaker 1: with the Patriots, but you know, like guys like Evan,
- 10:39Speaker 1: we're on this weeks ago, like the spacing is just wrong.
- 10:42Speaker 1: Is anybody gonna wonder why they keep running those routes
- 10:46Speaker 1: like that or they just going to continue to blame
- 10:47Speaker 1: it on the coaches because I'm sure that they designed
- 10:49Speaker 1: it to have two tight ends running across the field
- 10:51Speaker 1: and smashing into each other. But but but here's the thing, Paul,
- 10:54Speaker 1: You're right, obviously they're not executing but preparation, you know,
- 11:00Speaker 1: what's happening in practice? Like are these things not happening
- 11:03Speaker 1: in practice and they're just rearing their head during the game?
- 11:06Speaker 1: Hard to believe. Hard to believe. So these things must
- 11:09Speaker 1: be happening in practice, I assume, and somehow they're not
- 11:13Speaker 1: getting corrected there it's carrying over into the game. If
- 11:17Speaker 1: it's not, that would be like the first time ever,
- 11:19Speaker 1: like these things just happened in the game, you know, Like,
- 11:23Speaker 1: so what is going on in practice? And that was
- 11:26Speaker 1: it was a point I brought up in the postgame
- 11:27Speaker 1: show of you know, the I mean, whatever they went
- 11:30Speaker 1: over six on third down I think to start the game.
- 11:32Speaker 1: But they were all like third and four, third and six.
- 11:35Speaker 1: I mean, these are manageable. It's not like, man, they're
- 11:37Speaker 1: getting nothing on first down. It's third and eleventh, thir
- 11:40Speaker 1: they're manageable distances. You get to the first third and
- 11:42Speaker 1: four of the game, and that I think was one
- 11:44Speaker 1: of the ones that Dan Orlovski was again that you know,
- 11:48Speaker 1: so this is this is it. I mean, you're gonna
- 11:50Speaker 1: hit a third and four. You got to have a
- 11:51Speaker 1: play you love at third and four, first, first, third
- 11:53Speaker 1: down in the game. Like in situations third and four,
- 11:58Speaker 1: you get your you got them injured. Um, you know
- 12:00Speaker 1: the other play just I mean, I mean we can
- 12:03Speaker 1: rattle them off. The other one where that's going around
- 12:06Speaker 1: where Mac clearly pre snap tries to make a call
- 12:08Speaker 1: for a wide receiver screen. Jacoby doesn't get the signal.
- 12:12Speaker 1: The other two guys do. They kind of the wide
- 12:14Speaker 1: receivers kind of start to block. Mac looks, Jacoby just
- 12:16Speaker 1: starts running a route. Matt looks at him. Play is dead.
- 12:19Speaker 1: I mean Mac looks back, He's got nothing. Um, it's
- 12:22Speaker 1: just continues to happen like that miscommunication people him out
- 12:25Speaker 1: on the same page. So like, I know it's it's
- 12:28Speaker 1: now we're in week sixteen, but like that must be
- 12:32Speaker 1: you know, like we gotta fix that, Like we should
- 12:35Speaker 1: have fixed that a long time ago. You know that
- 12:37Speaker 1: that pre snap communication. I'm mac Jones. How how do
- 12:41Speaker 1: I make sure that everybody got my signal? Everybody is
- 12:45Speaker 1: on the same page. You know, maybe we need to
- 12:48Speaker 1: be a little bit more um intentional about that than
- 12:52Speaker 1: other teams. Fine, whatever it takes to make it happen,
- 12:55Speaker 1: you've got to make it all the time. And some
- 12:57Speaker 1: of it happens in signals that I got it, you
- 12:59Speaker 1: know up to the head that that thing. Some of
- 13:01Speaker 1: it just happens. I mean it happened to the Bengals,
- 13:04Speaker 1: you know, the Bengals. The pick six was a miscommunication
- 13:06Speaker 1: between Borrow and Chase. I mean, like he obviously didn't
- 13:09Speaker 1: get the signal. Borrow threw hot and Chase was running
- 13:13Speaker 1: down the field. But the things about the you know,
- 13:17Speaker 1: like it's one of those arguments that people used to make,
- 13:20Speaker 1: you know, the Brett Farve thing, like are you making
- 13:22Speaker 1: any place? Like I've heard a lot of people like
- 13:25Speaker 1: really praising the Patriots offense because they've really cut back
- 13:28Speaker 1: on the turnovers lately, and they have, Like the turnos
- 13:30Speaker 1: were a huge problem the first six, seven, eight weeks
- 13:33Speaker 1: of the season and largely they've disappeared, but the production
- 13:37Speaker 1: hasn't changed. They haven't made any plays. So, like, what
- 13:40Speaker 1: would you rather be Like the Bengals who turned it
- 13:43Speaker 1: over three times on Sunday but had four hundred and
- 13:45Speaker 1: fifty yards of offense and we're moving it all over
- 13:47Speaker 1: the place. Or the Patriots who couldn't get out of
- 13:49Speaker 1: their own way and as Mike says, couldn't convert a
- 13:51Speaker 1: third and four. Right, if you if you never crossed
- 13:54Speaker 1: the street, you don't have to look both right, you know,
- 13:56Speaker 1: you know, like if you play really conservatively, yeah, you
- 13:58Speaker 1: won't turn the ball over, but you're not gonna be great.
- 14:01Speaker 1: You're not gonna make plays well. And I think that
- 14:04Speaker 1: they they moved it down field a little bit, but
- 14:06Speaker 1: they just can't do it and be productive doing it. Yeah. Yeah,
- 14:11Speaker 1: So it's it's we're in a pickle here. But you
- 14:15Speaker 1: know that's what I think. You know, I think I'll
- 14:17Speaker 1: you know, spoiler alert. I think they're gonna win this game.
- 14:22Speaker 1: They are now too, But I just I don't really know,
- 14:26Speaker 1: like it's not going to really change anything, I feel,
- 14:29Speaker 1: because you got a team that's completely spiraling and they're
- 14:33Speaker 1: probably gonna be without their quarterback. I mean, they lost
- 14:36Speaker 1: four games in a row with tour your I'm just
- 14:40Speaker 1: laughing about it. I mean, I just I mean, look,
- 14:43Speaker 1: I really came to like watching football over the last
- 14:46Speaker 1: twenty years like this. I've never watched offensive football this bad. Grant,
- 14:49Speaker 1: it's a small sample size. I've only really watched Tom Brady,
- 14:52Speaker 1: Cam Newton in one season Mac Jones, but this is
- 14:54Speaker 1: just so bad. And to think that they could make
- 14:56Speaker 1: the playoffs, what it really is is it's really an
- 15:01Speaker 1: indictment on the greediness of the league. Like this is
- 15:06Speaker 1: what you you needed to add a wildcard team so
- 15:09Speaker 1: you could have, you know, six and nine teams that
- 15:13Speaker 1: have really as good as shot as anybody of making
- 15:15Speaker 1: the playoffs. I mean, they don't, they don't need anything
- 15:17Speaker 1: out of you. I Mean, the toughest thing for the
- 15:20Speaker 1: Raiders to have happened is for them to win their games.
- 15:23Speaker 1: Like the teams that they need to lose are playing
- 15:25Speaker 1: teams that are better than them, and they need them
- 15:27Speaker 1: to lose, you know, like that should you should be
- 15:30Speaker 1: in playoff contention at seven and eight and eight, and
- 15:33Speaker 1: you know in six and nine and the stage of
- 15:35Speaker 1: the state, and these are teams. Miami's on a four
- 15:37Speaker 1: game losing straight area. I know you are because the
- 15:42Speaker 1: Patriots are one of the teams. It's alive. But it's
- 15:44Speaker 1: bad football. But it's bad there also there also might
- 15:47Speaker 1: be a season where those teams are five hundred this
- 15:50Speaker 1: particular season. You know, there's a lot of but I
- 15:53Speaker 1: don't want five hundred teams in the playoffs. That's my point.
- 15:55Speaker 1: I'm fine, I'm nine and eight, eight and nine, not
- 15:57Speaker 1: a playoffs. I don't care. Go away. I don't care
- 15:59Speaker 1: about that. You know, Like what if you, you know,
- 16:01Speaker 1: were like the Giants that year in oh seven where
- 16:04Speaker 1: you came on late, or at least they were nine
- 16:06Speaker 1: and seven. I know, but like that could happen too,
- 16:08Speaker 1: you know, like you just happen to have a slow start,
- 16:11Speaker 1: you come on late. I'm good with the extra team.
- 16:13Speaker 1: More football is great. I don't care. I'm not married.
- 16:16Speaker 1: If it's not more football, it's bad football, all right,
- 16:18Speaker 1: We'll see it. But it's been adding games. You're just
- 16:20Speaker 1: adding a team. But that's the league. This year. It's
- 16:23Speaker 1: not just because of the playoffs. Like every team this year,
- 16:28Speaker 1: this year, this season, yes, this season, right, So like
- 16:31Speaker 1: the few nine amount of bad teams I would rather
- 16:33Speaker 1: watch in the playoffs, like I do think Philadelphia is
- 16:36Speaker 1: pretty good. I think San Francisco is pretty good. Kansas City, Buffalo,
- 16:41Speaker 1: like obviously I watched playoff games with those teams. I'll
- 16:43Speaker 1: really be looking forward to the divisional round when those
- 16:46Speaker 1: teams I assume take care of business in the wildcard
- 16:49Speaker 1: round and those teams are playing like that Buffalo Kansas
- 16:52Speaker 1: City game last year was riveting. I'll watch that seven
- 16:55Speaker 1: verse two. But you know, Chargers against the Bengals, that
- 17:01Speaker 1: could be a good game. That's tough. Anyway, I don't
- 17:05Speaker 1: want to talk about you know, Well, let's focus on
- 17:07Speaker 1: the Patriots. Yeah, although we must say that Nate Hackett
- 17:10Speaker 1: got fired along with him now along with your offensive coordina. Well, yeah,
- 17:17Speaker 1: he did wonders over there with Russell Wilson did pretty
- 17:19Speaker 1: good in Green Bay. And I actually I wasn't surprised
- 17:23Speaker 1: at him or was it Aaron Rodgers. I wouldn't be, well,
- 17:25Speaker 1: he's not doing so well this year without him, Um,
- 17:28Speaker 1: what I wouldn't be surprised if he did go back
- 17:30Speaker 1: to green Bay into that like McDaniel's thing, like he
- 17:33Speaker 1: gets fired in a couple of games, left green Bay
- 17:35Speaker 1: still fighting for a class. Speaking of terrible teams still
- 17:38Speaker 1: in the playoff for a race six and eight, seven
- 17:41Speaker 1: and eight. I mean, I'm glad we're away. I'm glad
- 17:43Speaker 1: we're gonna reshoot that thing. Relegation. They should relegate the
- 17:46Speaker 1: teams that are not over five hundred. Yes, you are eligible,
- 17:51Speaker 1: but you didn't meet the criteria. I've owned the bathroom,
- 17:54Speaker 1: I said. I feel kind of bad in retrospect from
- 17:56Speaker 1: our TV show yesterday, I was kind of killing two
- 17:58Speaker 1: of for those interceptions against because like and I were
- 18:01Speaker 1: just talking about it too, and I'm like, all right,
- 18:04Speaker 1: he was concussion. Like the Dolphins finished that game fumble,
- 18:07Speaker 1: missfield goal, pick, pick, pick, like a game that they
- 18:09Speaker 1: were absolutely in total control of and they completely handed away.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Then you're like, well, you know, does this play that
- 18:16Speaker 1: happened went like two minutes left in the second quarter
- 18:18Speaker 1: and all the picks happened after that? Right? You know,
- 18:20Speaker 1: like you kind of just like you do you feel
- 18:22Speaker 1: because you watch these guys play and you just like,
- 18:24Speaker 1: what did he do it right, and he's in concussion protocol,
- 18:28Speaker 1: you know, second time, you know major, his career is
- 18:32Speaker 1: probably in jeopardy. Right. It's a hard such a hard thing,
- 18:36Speaker 1: such a hard thing. He's playing so well, dude, and
- 18:37Speaker 1: you feel bad because I I did the same thing
- 18:39Speaker 1: you did, Mike, I did the same thing. Would kill him,
- 18:42Speaker 1: like especially the last like the last one he throws
- 18:44Speaker 1: into double coverage, like what are you thinking? Well, well,
- 18:47Speaker 1: you see, Paul, he probably wasn't thinking clearly. His brain
- 18:51Speaker 1: hit his skull. Yeah, well, in retrospect, I didn't know.
- 18:55Speaker 1: I didn't didn't either. Oh well, yeah, well we'll shoot
- 18:59Speaker 1: that today, will be will be thoughtful and measure a
- 19:02Speaker 1: little bit more respectful. Still gonna pick the Patriots to win.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'm with Fred, I'm on the spoiler root. I'm picking
- 19:07Speaker 1: the Patriots. I would have picked him even if Tua
- 19:09Speaker 1: was playing. I was flirting with that. I was, well,
- 19:12Speaker 1: we had it yesterday. We thought two was playing Estue
- 19:15Speaker 1: when we shot the TV show and yeah, spoiler alert
- 19:17Speaker 1: made made Patriot pick. Yeah, I mean, and he still
- 19:19Speaker 1: could play. McDaniel didn't rule him out, but Penna tomorrow,
- 19:22Speaker 1: you know, yeah, i'd feel differently about the game if
- 19:25Speaker 1: he did play, because now to your point, like now,
- 19:29Speaker 1: at least there's a reason, Like I just thought he
- 19:31Speaker 1: like maybe he's lost it. You know who knows? Yeah?
- 19:36Speaker 1: Three concussions in a year though, huh that's I mean, yeah,
- 19:38Speaker 1: I don't know if he's had three, like I think
- 19:41Speaker 1: he had one in the Buffalo can't to Cincinnati thing.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Like I think he had one and they didn't diagnose it.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Do you know what I mean? But I mean, I
- 19:49Speaker 1: think his career is in jeopardy. I do. I I
- 19:51Speaker 1: don't know, Like how many of those hits you want
- 19:53Speaker 1: to take? What do you do? I mean the team
- 19:55Speaker 1: is in such a hard position. I mean, health is everything,
- 19:59Speaker 1: but there it is, and was Bronck maybe yeah, I'm
- 20:05Speaker 1: saying part owner quarterback? First time has ever been an
- 20:09Speaker 1: owner slash player in the NFL? Could he just fire guys?
- 20:13Speaker 1: Like in the locker room? What was his name? O?
- 20:18Speaker 1: Heaven can wait? Warren Beatty? Wasn't it Edward Pendleton something
- 20:22Speaker 1: like that was his name? I don't remember. You know
- 20:24Speaker 1: the movie. I know the movie, but he came back
- 20:26Speaker 1: into the I see the movie. Oh I never saw them, mind,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't think it was a flop. I thought it was.
- 20:33Speaker 1: I remember the video box from our local video store
- 20:36Speaker 1: with like him standing in the cover, Warren beat Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: Warren Beatty in the raam's uniform. Yeah, all right, eight
- 20:43Speaker 1: five five he was the owner, Like he came back
- 20:45Speaker 1: into the owner's body and he decided to buy the
- 20:48Speaker 1: team and he made himself the quarterback. Oh wow, I
- 20:50Speaker 1: didn't I didn't see it. Yeah, I really didn't see it.
- 20:53Speaker 1: I don't even know that story. It's a good premise.
- 20:55Speaker 1: Eight five five pass five hundred is the ace ticket.
- 20:58Speaker 1: Hut line web radio attress dot com is the email address.
- 21:03Speaker 1: So yeah, poor ramandre Um Mac got fine? Yeah, oh
- 21:09Speaker 1: did he? Okay, so when did that happen? This morning?
- 21:12Speaker 1: This morning there's eleven k so Mac had to play
- 21:15Speaker 1: on the return where he came from behind and then
- 21:17Speaker 1: cut down one of the defenders, and uh, Florio I
- 21:22Speaker 1: think was the first to come out and said, you know,
- 21:24Speaker 1: he's probably gonna get fine for this, and he did.
- 21:27Speaker 1: He's he got I mean, he got was killed yesterday.
- 21:30Speaker 1: But I mean there were a lot of people he did.
- 21:33Speaker 1: I thought, yeah, I thought he did get killed. I
- 21:35Speaker 1: think I think that's I mean, every show and you
- 21:38Speaker 1: know Sterling Sharp talking about or Shannon Sharp sorry, you know,
- 21:42Speaker 1: saying all he's gonna have to watch out that our
- 21:45Speaker 1: guy Dove cleman if he's a real person. UM put
- 21:48Speaker 1: out that video with like you know, the Mac Jones
- 21:51Speaker 1: play the Greatest Hits, which was funny because then somebody
- 21:54Speaker 1: uh tagged Andy saying, oh, Duce had a good rand
- 21:58Speaker 1: about Mac and I was like, well that was was
- 22:00Speaker 1: just when I was mad with it flopping. That was
- 22:01Speaker 1: and when he was trying to put cleats and guys
- 22:04Speaker 1: balls and you know, cut guys out from under. The
- 22:07Speaker 1: funny thing too yesterday was Mac was on EI. Yeah,
- 22:11Speaker 1: and he was like, oh no, no, I wasn't. I
- 22:13Speaker 1: wasn't trying to do anything. There's no hard feelings. I'm like,
- 22:15Speaker 1: I don't think it's for you to write if there's
- 22:17Speaker 1: no hard feelings. Mag like they might have hard feeling
- 22:20Speaker 1: because they felt like they tried to take out their knees. Um,
- 22:23Speaker 1: I don't need to reiterate it. Well, I think I
- 22:24Speaker 1: think he's got a problem, and in that he lashes out.
- 22:28Speaker 1: He does, whether it's just physically or emotionally, he lashes out.
- 22:32Speaker 1: And I think you know Saban talked about it, um
- 22:35Speaker 1: that it was something that they had worked on even
- 22:38Speaker 1: in college. You know, he he lashes out. I mean
- 22:42Speaker 1: it was the the I mean, the stuff for me
- 22:45Speaker 1: was just like faking you he got a concussion or
- 22:47Speaker 1: going down extra hard, which I just thought was dangerous
- 22:49Speaker 1: because they're gonna pull you. But yeah, he's got to
- 22:52Speaker 1: he's got to stop this stuff. I don't I mean,
- 22:54Speaker 1: I don't know so much about the reprieve from other
- 22:56Speaker 1: defensive players. I mean, that's the last year with Brian
- 22:58Speaker 1: Burns was like, you know, happy things saying that kind
- 23:00Speaker 1: of stuff. Kind of a similar thing. But I just
- 23:03Speaker 1: wish you'd cool with this stuff. I wish you would
- 23:05Speaker 1: just get up and play the next play and stop
- 23:07Speaker 1: with all the histrionics and and overemotional reactions to I
- 23:11Speaker 1: think they're related, but there are different things. I agree
- 23:14Speaker 1: with what you guys just said about I think that
- 23:17Speaker 1: part of this mentality is why he ends up doing
- 23:19Speaker 1: these things. But I think these things are different, and
- 23:21Speaker 1: I you know, I always try to give guys the
- 23:24Speaker 1: benefit of the doubt. Like the dirty thing to me
- 23:27Speaker 1: is kind of a label that's hard to go past.
- 23:30Speaker 1: It's like when someone calls you a racist. You know,
- 23:32Speaker 1: how do you defend yourself when someone calls you a racist? Um,
- 23:35Speaker 1: don't be a racist? No, no, I know, but there's
- 23:37Speaker 1: no like like I'm not racist. Oh yeah, I didn't
- 23:41Speaker 1: mean it too. Yeah, you definitely sound like you're not. Um.
- 23:45Speaker 1: You know, when I saw the Brian Burns play, I
- 23:48Speaker 1: didn't like it, but I didn't think to myself, I
- 23:51Speaker 1: was trying to hurt him there and I and I don't.
- 23:54Speaker 1: But when there's like four now all kind of in
- 23:58Speaker 1: similar patterns, and I think Fred's right when he says
- 24:01Speaker 1: how they come about. It's like when he gets to
- 24:03Speaker 1: that state, he lashes out. He lashes out, and I
- 24:07Speaker 1: think at that time he's thinking like Grayson Allen. I
- 24:10Speaker 1: think that's a perfect comparison for the former Duke basketball
- 24:14Speaker 1: player for the Bucks. Now, well, he was with the Bucks.
- 24:16Speaker 1: I don't know if he's still with the Bucks. I
- 24:19Speaker 1: don't think he wants to like tear someone's ecl but
- 24:22Speaker 1: like he might run by and stick a foot out
- 24:24Speaker 1: and trip a guy on the court. He did it
- 24:25Speaker 1: all the time. And I don't think Mac was trying
- 24:28Speaker 1: to hurt at Eli Apple, but he was frustrated as hell.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Ye and that was who was in front of him,
- 24:34Speaker 1: and that was the guy who was there. Now, the
- 24:36Speaker 1: fact that he's coming from behind has nothing to do
- 24:39Speaker 1: with the dirtiness. You can't go low on a guy
- 24:42Speaker 1: who's trying to block. It's just like a defensive player
- 24:45Speaker 1: on a regular play, on a screen pass, they throw
- 24:48Speaker 1: a screen pass out there, two linemen there, and here
- 24:50Speaker 1: comes the little safety. You can't dive at the guard
- 24:52Speaker 1: the guard's legs. That's a penalty. That's a cheap dirty play,
- 24:56Speaker 1: and that's I'm like, even if he was coming from
- 24:59Speaker 1: the front side and Apple knew he was there, he
- 25:02Speaker 1: get bailed out a little bit because it doesn't really
- 25:04Speaker 1: make a lot of contact. Eli was athletic enough to
- 25:07Speaker 1: sort of jump it and it was kind of a
- 25:09Speaker 1: nothing burger. Yeah, but I didn't see it turn the game.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I think he fell though, didn't he Apple? Yeah, but
- 25:15Speaker 1: I think he started coming and he didn't get like
- 25:17Speaker 1: this knees taken out right like, and I said, like,
- 25:19Speaker 1: I just said, this is Steve Burton. I was like,
- 25:21Speaker 1: you know, you played football. How did you feel when
- 25:23Speaker 1: guys went at your legs, went at your knees? And
- 25:25Speaker 1: He's like, yeah, it's a good point. That was like
- 25:27Speaker 1: the cardinal sin, Like you never unnecessarily went into guy's knees.
- 25:31Speaker 1: That was the only time in hockey. Different but playing
- 25:34Speaker 1: at bats in summer league going into college, can't wait
- 25:36Speaker 1: to start my college career. This kid went on my
- 25:37Speaker 1: knees like coming around the net, and I lost my mind,
- 25:40Speaker 1: I mean same, flashed out. I took my stick and
- 25:43Speaker 1: I too handed him, oh yeah, and went after him.
- 25:45Speaker 1: He turtled. Never seen my dad so proud in his life.
- 25:48Speaker 1: It was just like alright, Michael, and then we had
- 25:52Speaker 1: to like get in the car. Then we had dropped
- 25:53Speaker 1: to Melrose for like another summer league hockey game, you know,
- 25:56Speaker 1: but it's it's true. And there was one thing I
- 25:58Speaker 1: just want to clarify, Like he got called for a
- 26:00Speaker 1: personal foul at the end of the game on the fumble. Yeah,
- 26:04Speaker 1: same thing, but that didn't that wasn't related to this.
- 26:07Speaker 1: I think people, you know, like he after the game
- 26:09Speaker 1: was like, well, I'm just trying to get you know,
- 26:10Speaker 1: the balls on the games on the line, I'm trying
- 26:12Speaker 1: to get the fumble. Yeah, anything you did in a
- 26:14Speaker 1: fumble pile I don't put in the same category as this, right,
- 26:18Speaker 1: you know, I think he got called for like pulling
- 26:19Speaker 1: guys off the pile and stuff, right, you know, And yeah,
- 26:24Speaker 1: I don't, I don't know, but like unless he grabbed
- 26:26Speaker 1: someone in the grapes or something, and that's what the
- 26:28Speaker 1: referee saw. But you're not allowed to pull guys. I mean, right,
- 26:31Speaker 1: that's a penalty, and that's what And that was, by
- 26:33Speaker 1: the way, a sneaky important penalty. Yeah right, and it
- 26:38Speaker 1: allows them to punt, and and there was a good
- 26:40Speaker 1: punt and it you know, it backed him up. I
- 26:42Speaker 1: would connect those. I mean, it's just I think it's
- 26:44Speaker 1: the same thing as Paul said. He's frustrated. Vermandri just
- 26:46Speaker 1: fumbled it. He's losing his mind. You know, I don't
- 26:49Speaker 1: know what exactly happens, Grace under pressure, Grace under pressure.
- 26:54Speaker 1: So I just think now there's enough. And you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: no one really talked about that slide against Chicago. I
- 27:00Speaker 1: said it to you, what had happened while I go.
- 27:01Speaker 1: He absolutely tried to hit him in the nuts. He
- 27:04Speaker 1: did a slide and his foot was up, you know,
- 27:06Speaker 1: waist high, and the guy jumped over him for the
- 27:09Speaker 1: Chicago like that was clearly an attempt to me to
- 27:12Speaker 1: get the guy in the nuts, well, or get the
- 27:14Speaker 1: guy I don't know necessarily in the nuts was right
- 27:16Speaker 1: the grape s Brady used to do the same thing. Hey, yeah,
- 27:20Speaker 1: we getting food, he already ordered. I don't think so
- 27:25Speaker 1: what what'd you get me? Pot luck? Right, a surprise.
- 27:30Speaker 1: I wouldn't. I would have got garlic bre but that's okay.
- 27:34Speaker 1: Oh yeah, oh yeah, go ahead of that, right, go ahead,
- 27:36Speaker 1: go ahead. No, I I like I said, I had
- 27:42Speaker 1: some fun with our old friend Jerry Thornton yesterday. Jerry
- 27:45Speaker 1: was doing Jerry chimed in on Twitter, is like, now
- 27:48Speaker 1: all these people that you know called Mac, you know,
- 27:50Speaker 1: like a whiney little now that now he's the second
- 27:53Speaker 1: coming to Jack Tatum and I just aren't nice to
- 27:56Speaker 1: have you back. Jerrybody, I missed you. I don't think
- 27:59Speaker 1: people are looking at at it that way. Yeah, it's
- 28:01Speaker 1: not like that. This is not it's it's not like
- 28:04Speaker 1: this guy is out there like Vontez. Perfect is the
- 28:06Speaker 1: guy I think that he used. He's not trying to
- 28:08Speaker 1: maim people. It's cheap, chippy, little dirty stuff. It's Danny Ainge, Yes,
- 28:14Speaker 1: it's Dan Perfect stuff perfect. I just said no, I
- 28:17Speaker 1: got no, I got no tolerance for all stuff. Mike.
- 28:20Speaker 1: Mike is way worse about this than you and I.
- 28:22Speaker 1: We both we both were like, yeah, well that I
- 28:24Speaker 1: was kind of it really bugs Mike. You should see
- 28:27Speaker 1: Mike when these plays first happen, he gets really off.
- 28:30Speaker 1: And my hope is that this fine will be like, hey,
- 28:34Speaker 1: cool it. You know, it's just it's not hard, Like
- 28:37Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think you know, it's not hard
- 28:38Speaker 1: to I just there's so much about his demeanor in
- 28:41Speaker 1: these situations where maybe he just needs a little bit
- 28:44Speaker 1: of success. I think that's probably like this whole season
- 28:46Speaker 1: is probably weighing on him too. Um, but it's a big,
- 28:49Speaker 1: big thing for me, Like the offense I'm I'm upset about.
- 28:53Speaker 1: But when we get to Mac, that's like the first
- 28:54Speaker 1: thing on my mind is just like your demeanor getting
- 28:57Speaker 1: past this stuff, like be an NFL quarterback, be a
- 29:00Speaker 1: leader that these guys can look to calm under pressure,
- 29:04Speaker 1: something bad happens. We know you're not going to lose
- 29:06Speaker 1: your mind and dive at somebody's legs, but hopefully, hopefully
- 29:09Speaker 1: the fine maybe changes his attitude a little bit. Okay,
- 29:12Speaker 1: we'll see. I mean, like you said, success is the
- 29:15Speaker 1: best thing, you know, like like I can't imagine the
- 29:20Speaker 1: pressure he's under because every second of every day while
- 29:24Speaker 1: he's in this facility, he's got to be it's I
- 29:27Speaker 1: got to prove myself. I gotta prove myself as a leader,
- 29:30Speaker 1: as a winner, as a quarterback, as this, as that,
- 29:33Speaker 1: and it must be really tough, you know, like he's
- 29:37Speaker 1: on he hears the zappy chance he I'm sure people
- 29:41Speaker 1: tell him about what people are saying about a good point.
- 29:44Speaker 1: You know, like every second of every day he's here,
- 29:47Speaker 1: he's under you know, intense scrutiny, and even if it's
- 29:52Speaker 1: not real, it's in his head, it's it is, you know. Yeah,
- 29:57Speaker 1: I just I think with Mac for me too, there's
- 29:59Speaker 1: just an element that he's trying so hard to be
- 30:03Speaker 1: everything to everyone. That's sorry, I just quoted an ever
- 30:06Speaker 1: ever sort something there, but you know, like it's just
- 30:09Speaker 1: like he immediately came in and it felt like he
- 30:12Speaker 1: had read you know, Bill Belichi's guy to dealing with
- 30:14Speaker 1: the media, things to do and not to do, Like
- 30:16Speaker 1: he memorized that and we still get it now. He
- 30:18Speaker 1: doesn't really say anything. He gives you a word salad um,
- 30:21Speaker 1: you know, and it's and it seems almost like it's
- 30:23Speaker 1: is it more energy expent making sure that you're doing
- 30:28Speaker 1: saying everything right? And can you just relax and can
- 30:31Speaker 1: you get you know, I maybe this is more a
- 30:32Speaker 1: question for the coaching staff, like, well I just relax
- 30:35Speaker 1: and play the game without having to worry about checking
- 30:37Speaker 1: every box. I think he was done, but I think
- 30:40Speaker 1: that he had more to give. And I'm talking about
- 30:43Speaker 1: chad Ocho Sinko. He was so bottled up when he
- 30:47Speaker 1: was here. He couldn't be himself and like, like I said,
- 30:50Speaker 1: I don't think that he would, but I think he
- 30:53Speaker 1: could have been a little bit better if he was
- 30:55Speaker 1: a little bit more relaxed because like he would have
- 30:58Speaker 1: this bad play and he knows I'm not going to
- 31:00Speaker 1: see the ball again, maybe for the rest of the day,
- 31:03Speaker 1: Whereas in Cincinnati you drop a pass, so I'm going
- 31:05Speaker 1: to get a pass. He was gonna get ten targets
- 31:07Speaker 1: every right, no matter what. And to Freddie's point, he
- 31:11Speaker 1: was the like the the poster child for that guy
- 31:13Speaker 1: that you could actually see thinking as he was running
- 31:16Speaker 1: his routes, Yeah, like am I doing this right? Am
- 31:19Speaker 1: I cutting at the right spot? And saying right, it's
- 31:22Speaker 1: a hard way, and he wasn't himself, you know, and
- 31:26Speaker 1: like you said, being that bottled up, it's hard to perform, Yeah,
- 31:30Speaker 1: you know. I mean, isn't it crazy just to tie
- 31:32Speaker 1: it to this whole offensive shift and we want to
- 31:34Speaker 1: be able to play faster? I mean has anything been
- 31:37Speaker 1: less true than that? Like, I mean, like playing fast
- 31:41Speaker 1: like you guys can't even get on the same page
- 31:44Speaker 1: and run the right plays it much less all beat
- 31:47Speaker 1: together and go quickly with pace. It's just yeah, I'm
- 31:50Speaker 1: not sure. Yeah, it's there's a lot of dynamics to
- 31:53Speaker 1: this season, which you know, maybe we'll find out more
- 31:57Speaker 1: once the season's over, but it's it's it's a complicated season.
- 32:02Speaker 1: The thing is just like frustrating this event for a
- 32:04Speaker 1: second too, is like you gotta come on Sunday Monday
- 32:08Speaker 1: morning and you got to hear Darren Orlovski again, go
- 32:11Speaker 1: on a whole video, you know, diagramming just how completely
- 32:14Speaker 1: dysfunction of the offense is. You got Kurt Warner posting
- 32:17Speaker 1: a screenshot of like, guess who this team is, and
- 32:19Speaker 1: it's clearly the Patriots because what's at the top third
- 32:21Speaker 1: and four, you know, like you can easily discern that.
- 32:25Speaker 1: You know, then you've got the mac Jones videos going
- 32:28Speaker 1: around of him sticking his foot out and trying to
- 32:31Speaker 1: take people's knees out, like it just sucks, Like I
- 32:34Speaker 1: just like, I just hate this whole thing. That the
- 32:36Speaker 1: way this season is gone and that these are the
- 32:38Speaker 1: things that you're dealing with. Is listening to the rest
- 32:40Speaker 1: of the NFL basically just dunk on you that you
- 32:43Speaker 1: have a completely dysfunctional off and listen, I was wrong.
- 32:48Speaker 1: I thought Patricia could do the job. I was wrong
- 32:51Speaker 1: at least this season. He's not doing it well. But
- 32:54Speaker 1: I'm not I'm not taking any shots to you. Yeah,
- 32:56Speaker 1: I'm gonna I'm gonna stick up for him when people
- 32:59Speaker 1: get it on the radio and call him this, you know,
- 33:02Speaker 1: fat buffoon and more, that's that's BS man, you know, Like, Okay,
- 33:07Speaker 1: so he got put into a position where he wasn't
- 33:11Speaker 1: cut out for and he's not doing well. But man, like,
- 33:15Speaker 1: you know, like he's not a moron, He's not a
- 33:18Speaker 1: you know, like the things that people are saying about
- 33:21Speaker 1: him are just completely ridiculous, and you know, I kind
- 33:24Speaker 1: of feel bad for him right now. He's in a
- 33:26Speaker 1: position where he was asked to do something he said, Okay,
- 33:29Speaker 1: I'm gonna go do it, and you know, I don't.
- 33:32Speaker 1: I think I think neither the person who asked him
- 33:34Speaker 1: nor him realized how difficult it is. You know. Yeah,
- 33:39Speaker 1: it could be true too, Yeah, it could be could
- 33:41Speaker 1: be like that. I mean, clearly those are cheap shots
- 33:45Speaker 1: on the radio from you know, mostly from from blowhards.
- 33:48Speaker 1: But but it's it's not just fans. It comes yeah,
- 33:52Speaker 1: the analysts, It just comes from. It comes up the territory.
- 33:55Speaker 1: Like I mean, I've heard I hear that from about
- 33:57Speaker 1: people around the league, and I don't get my back
- 34:00Speaker 1: up and defend it. Man, how many people tell you
- 34:02Speaker 1: Brandon Staley is a moron? Yeah, well they hear that
- 34:05Speaker 1: all the time. Just moron, just gonna go for it
- 34:07Speaker 1: on fourth down and right, yeah, like that he invites
- 34:11Speaker 1: on his own. I just think that that's part of it.
- 34:14Speaker 1: When you don't think the guy's very good, you call
- 34:16Speaker 1: him names and stuff like that. I agree. I mean
- 34:18Speaker 1: I know what you're saying, Fred, I just that doesn't
- 34:20Speaker 1: bug me as much, like like you can criticize his
- 34:22Speaker 1: work without getting like down in the gutter like that.
- 34:25Speaker 1: You know, I don't know, it just bothers me. You know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: luck goes into it. But I'm not even gonna give
- 34:30Speaker 1: you a hard time for thinking that it would work,
- 34:33Speaker 1: because I don't know how much you really thought it
- 34:35Speaker 1: was gonna work. I think you were hopeful. I was hopeful.
- 34:37Speaker 1: I think you were hopeful, and you you you approached
- 34:40Speaker 1: it I think with a little bit more of an
- 34:41Speaker 1: open mind than most of the rest of us. Yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 1: most of the rest of us decided it wasn't going
- 34:45Speaker 1: to work before it started. You said, I don't know
- 34:47Speaker 1: if Bill wants to do this. I got faith in Bill,
- 34:50Speaker 1: and I don't think that that's a stupid take you
- 34:52Speaker 1: even though it was wrong, I still say having been
- 34:54Speaker 1: a head coach in the NFL is worth something. It's like,
- 34:57Speaker 1: you see, from that total vantage point, it's an incredibly
- 35:01Speaker 1: difficult job, and you know, then having having that experience
- 35:05Speaker 1: and then going back, I think it's beneficial. But it
- 35:09Speaker 1: doesn't always work. You know, it doesn't always work. Yeah,
- 35:13Speaker 1: and in this case, it didn't. All right, And I
- 35:15Speaker 1: mean I still think that they had it hasn't better talent.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I mean, how could they not. I mean this just
- 35:20Speaker 1: looks like an not an NFL offense. I mean they
- 35:23Speaker 1: have NFL players on the team. It shouldn't look like this. No,
- 35:26Speaker 1: I don't think they have the makings of a very
- 35:28Speaker 1: good offense, but it shouldn't look like that. It's not
- 35:30Speaker 1: the thirty second ranked offense. Yeah, I still which I
- 35:33Speaker 1: still contend that they are underperforming. I agree, Yeah, yeah,
- 35:37Speaker 1: I think we all know that. Yeah, could I get
- 35:39Speaker 1: them to like eighteenth? Like you know what I mean,
- 35:41Speaker 1: what's the ceiling? Can you just make me a middle
- 35:43Speaker 1: of the pack offense? Yeah, like a black offense as
- 35:46Speaker 1: opposed to a dismal one. Right, And if you did that,
- 35:50Speaker 1: you know, I'll give it better as the defense situationally,
- 35:52Speaker 1: because they feel like, you know, you're gonna give them
- 35:54Speaker 1: a little something from time, I'll give you like just
- 35:56Speaker 1: what speaks volumes like son Saturday. The game's I mean,
- 36:00Speaker 1: it's first in goal from the five. And I said
- 36:03Speaker 1: to Mike and Davin at the time, if I were Cincinnati,
- 36:05Speaker 1: I'd let them score and then I would have no
- 36:07Speaker 1: I would have had no fear whatsoever. The worst that's
- 36:09Speaker 1: gonna happen is we're going over time. Provided he makes
- 36:12Speaker 1: the field, they might have missed it. There was a
- 36:13Speaker 1: lot of miskicks a lot of miskicks that day, but
- 36:16Speaker 1: they were going to get into field goal range. At
- 36:19Speaker 1: at worst, I think they may have scored a touchdown
- 36:21Speaker 1: and won the game. But so I'm talking about this
- 36:25Speaker 1: with some people and they were like, dude, what makes
- 36:29Speaker 1: you think they were going to score from the five
- 36:30Speaker 1: yard line? I was like, what, he goes. I mean,
- 36:33Speaker 1: it's the worst red zone offense in football. More often
- 36:36Speaker 1: than not, when they get down there, they don't score.
- 36:38Speaker 1: I've heard that. So I was like, wow, I'm like,
- 36:41Speaker 1: I thought they would. I thought it was inevitable they
- 36:43Speaker 1: were going to score. Yeah, you know, and that, and
- 36:45Speaker 1: so much so that I would have invited Cincinnati to
- 36:48Speaker 1: let them score to preserved time. But there's no guarantee.
- 36:50Speaker 1: But you know, the guy said that to me, and
- 36:52Speaker 1: I had no response, like when yeah, but no, you're right.
- 36:57Speaker 1: They more often than not when they get down there,
- 36:59Speaker 1: they don't score. Somebody, you idiot. They suck you to you.
- 37:05Speaker 1: All right, let's get to the listeners on this Tuesday. UM,
- 37:10Speaker 1: we'll start with Eduardo in La. What's up? Eduardo? What's up? Guys? Um,
- 37:17Speaker 1: very emotional roller coaster last game. I don't know. Every
- 37:23Speaker 1: time you see Mac Jones play. I just get discouraged
- 37:26Speaker 1: every game, you know, Um, but with the playoffs almost here,
- 37:31Speaker 1: with us having a shot to get there, if he
- 37:34Speaker 1: screws up big time versus a Dolphins, does he get benched? No?
- 37:39Speaker 1: Do we see that be coming? No? I don't think
- 37:42Speaker 1: there's any gain to doing that, you know. I well,
- 37:46Speaker 1: you know what, let's put it this way. If it's
- 37:49Speaker 1: clearly him and there's just still a chance to win,
- 37:53Speaker 1: maybe they do it because playoffs are still a possibility.
- 37:56Speaker 1: But I just don't know how it would have to be,
- 37:58Speaker 1: like it would have to be so all about Mac
- 38:01Speaker 1: to bench him, you know, like there's no other explanation
- 38:04Speaker 1: why we're not playing well today. I don't see that
- 38:06Speaker 1: happening though. I mean, to Paul's point, the lack of
- 38:09Speaker 1: turnovers lately is probably what has at least solidified him.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I think that's what it would be to get him out.
- 38:14Speaker 1: He's just he's just like the goalie in hockey giving
- 38:17Speaker 1: up goals. We gotta get we gotta make a change. Yeah, yeah,
- 38:19Speaker 1: I mean I think if you were gonna do it,
- 38:21Speaker 1: if if there was an inkling, I think he would
- 38:23Speaker 1: have done it on Saturday because the offense as bad
- 38:26Speaker 1: as it can get. And I think he was part
- 38:29Speaker 1: of the bad Like I'm sorry he was part of
- 38:31Speaker 1: the bad. Um. You know, aside from the ball that
- 38:35Speaker 1: Thornton dropped, which I thought was was a good enough
- 38:37Speaker 1: throw to make a big play on, I didn't see
- 38:40Speaker 1: a whole lot of good out of the quarterback. And
- 38:43Speaker 1: to you a point, Fred Boat, when things are going bad,
- 38:46Speaker 1: he hasn't really turned it around with his mentality. Um.
- 38:50Speaker 1: I thought he did a better job of not you know,
- 38:52Speaker 1: complete and let it, letting everybody know that the coaches
- 38:55Speaker 1: just messed up. Yea, he didn't do any of that
- 38:57Speaker 1: in this game. I didn't, at least not that I saw, um.
- 39:01Speaker 1: But there was just no answers. And if Bill didn't
- 39:04Speaker 1: make a like I was really watching at halftime, I
- 39:06Speaker 1: saw it like Mac really sprinted to the steps to
- 39:09Speaker 1: get out at half. At half. Yeah, And I think
- 39:11Speaker 1: they mean he may have been in retrospect, maybe been
- 39:14Speaker 1: a little irked with the whole we're gonna go out,
- 39:16Speaker 1: We're gonna throw a pass on first down then call
- 39:18Speaker 1: the time out. But I don't really trust you. I'm
- 39:20Speaker 1: just gonna take a knee hearing right go like I
- 39:22Speaker 1: think that might have been bugging him, and I was like,
- 39:24Speaker 1: this is something to keep an eye on. But when
- 39:26Speaker 1: he came out to start the second half, he was
- 39:29Speaker 1: throwing and running on the sideline like he was helmet on.
- 39:32Speaker 1: Going back in the game. I had my eye on Zappy. Yeah,
- 39:35Speaker 1: and I think if we didn't get him there, I
- 39:36Speaker 1: don't think we're gonna get him all right, Eduardo, thanks
- 39:40Speaker 1: for the call. Let's go to Spi and Fresno. What's up? Speed?
- 39:45Speaker 1: Danny Angel is a good one. Spread. Another one is
- 39:47Speaker 1: Bruce Bowen. He always used to find a way just
- 39:50Speaker 1: to kind of stick his foot under somebody else's like
- 39:53Speaker 1: an offensive player right when they're shooting, like Bruce Bowen,
- 39:59Speaker 1: Draymond Green. Yeah, there's a lot of basketball players that
- 40:02Speaker 1: I like that. It's a it's a good sport for
- 40:06Speaker 1: that for just kind of like cumulatively like subtle yeah,
- 40:09Speaker 1: oh yeah. Yeah. You can't really get back at him.
- 40:12Speaker 1: I wanted to. I was hoping I could try and
- 40:13Speaker 1: start a Paul and Fred fight. Um, what do you got?
- 40:17Speaker 1: So don't last? Don't give up yet? What do you
- 40:20Speaker 1: got guys? Last week, you guys had to kind of
- 40:24Speaker 1: it was it was a really interesting back and forth
- 40:27Speaker 1: about how Bill maybe how Bill would react, uh if
- 40:31Speaker 1: and when Craft approaches him about Patricia in the off season,
- 40:33Speaker 1: and Fred was just basically like, Bill's gonna see what
- 40:36Speaker 1: we're all seeing, but the offense, and he'll be on
- 40:39Speaker 1: board to shake things up. But Paul was, and I
- 40:42Speaker 1: think I might be more with Paul and this pop
- 40:44Speaker 1: up Bill would be more like hesitant theraist and kind
- 40:46Speaker 1: of like, well, make the change. But I don't want
- 40:48Speaker 1: to make the change. That's the fear. And and um,
- 40:52Speaker 1: I guess I wonder if you're trying to do the
- 40:55Speaker 1: dangerous thing of reading Bill's mind. Um, do you think
- 40:58Speaker 1: that he's all of you guys? What do you think
- 41:01Speaker 1: is he putting? Is he putting too much of this
- 41:04Speaker 1: stuff what's going wrong on the players kind of at
- 41:06Speaker 1: the expense of really clearly seeing what's wrong with the
- 41:09Speaker 1: coaching stuff with his coaches. I think that's as word about, well,
- 41:14Speaker 1: that's that's like if they would just do the system
- 41:17Speaker 1: the way me and Matt and Joe are telling him.
- 41:18Speaker 1: Do you think that that'sibilities? No, I don't. Do you
- 41:22Speaker 1: think that that's what I'm asking I'm not trying. This
- 41:24Speaker 1: is not an argument starter. I'm asking, do you think
- 41:26Speaker 1: there's a chance that Bill thinks it's them not us? Well,
- 41:29Speaker 1: I'll here's what I'll say. I guarantee he's hearing that
- 41:34Speaker 1: it's them not us. And you know that's what coaches
- 41:37Speaker 1: are telling him because they're sticking up for themselves. So
- 41:40Speaker 1: he's hearing that from the coaches. No, but he's hearing
- 41:43Speaker 1: from the players that it's them not us. And coaches,
- 41:45Speaker 1: But what do you think do you think there's a
- 41:47Speaker 1: chance that he thinks, yes, if they just exactly what
- 41:51Speaker 1: Mike said, just did what we told him to do.
- 41:53Speaker 1: We just executed the plays are there to be executed well.
- 41:56Speaker 1: And every week everybody has seventeen plays where I see
- 41:59Speaker 1: a guy. You know, I think it's all deceptive. But
- 42:02Speaker 1: here's here's the thing that maybe we all need to
- 42:05Speaker 1: worry about. Let's let's go back to practice. Right, So
- 42:08Speaker 1: I was gonna go back. Bill hasn't stopped coaching in practice.
- 42:11Speaker 1: Like it's not like he always has coached in practice.
- 42:14Speaker 1: Even though there's an OC and a wide receivers coach
- 42:16Speaker 1: and a defensive line coach, he still goes in and
- 42:20Speaker 1: you know, walks in and coaches during practice, So it's
- 42:24Speaker 1: him telling guys what to do too. So what we
- 42:27Speaker 1: have to worry about is that he does feel like
- 42:29Speaker 1: it's the players. That's my concern, and that's kind of
- 42:32Speaker 1: the concern about if Robert approaches him, well, I mean,
- 42:37Speaker 1: if I don't want to leave, I want to stay,
- 42:40Speaker 1: and if this is what you're telling me I need
- 42:41Speaker 1: to do, then I'm going to do it. But you're
- 42:43Speaker 1: kind of going along to get along, and that's not
- 42:45Speaker 1: the best environment in my opinion. It would be much
- 42:48Speaker 1: better environment if he says, I took a shot, it
- 42:52Speaker 1: didn't work right. We need to make chances. Yeah, doesn't
- 42:55Speaker 1: Robert always have like an end just to be like,
- 42:57Speaker 1: you know, Billy, You've always said when things are going right,
- 42:59Speaker 1: it's because the players, and then going right, it's probably
- 43:02Speaker 1: because of the coaches. I mean, isn't that what am
- 43:04Speaker 1: I wrong? That's what he says publicly after games. I
- 43:08Speaker 1: don't know what he says to Robert. Yeah, I just
- 43:11Speaker 1: think that's hisses. Why didn't it work with Mac? Like
- 43:15Speaker 1: then then you turn to the players, all right, Well,
- 43:16Speaker 1: if it's on the players, why can't you pick these players?
- 43:19Speaker 1: I mean Mac was pretty good last year. So do
- 43:22Speaker 1: we have to get all new players now because these
- 43:23Speaker 1: players can't execute what you guys are trying to sell. Now,
- 43:26Speaker 1: that's my question. But I think everybody's hoping what Paul
- 43:29Speaker 1: said that they'll acknowledge how bad, and I don't. I
- 43:32Speaker 1: don't rule that out. Like I think that he's a
- 43:34Speaker 1: smart guy and he sees he sees the ineptitude of
- 43:37Speaker 1: the offense. Imagine more than just it's more than just personnel.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And you can do it in a way that you're
- 43:43Speaker 1: not killing your your friend Matt Patrician just but you
- 43:47Speaker 1: have to admit something. You have to admit that, Yeah,
- 43:49Speaker 1: I put him in a bad position. And you know
- 43:51Speaker 1: what else, Fred, he could also admit it and say, like,
- 43:53Speaker 1: it's not necessarily because they didn't know what they were doing.
- 43:56Speaker 1: It's because they wouldn't embrace it. They wouldn't accept it. Yeah,
- 43:59Speaker 1: you know, and if they had just been willing to
- 44:01Speaker 1: accept it, But like that ship has sailed, it's not
- 44:04Speaker 1: they're not going to accept it, right, Yeah, So you
- 44:07Speaker 1: can blame Mac and the guys that he has following him,
- 44:11Speaker 1: or you can blame Patricia for not you know, getting
- 44:14Speaker 1: Mac on board. Whoever you want to blame. That's fine, Yeah,
- 44:17Speaker 1: but but Bill has to step back and look and
- 44:20Speaker 1: say it's not going to work because it's dysfunctional, right,
- 44:23Speaker 1: and you know, like the way it would work would
- 44:26Speaker 1: they would have had to have had immediate success. And
- 44:29Speaker 1: then the players are like, oh, okay, this is okay.
- 44:31Speaker 1: But remember, you know, we keep harping on it. This
- 44:34Speaker 1: hasn't looked right since training camp. Didn't even look right
- 44:38Speaker 1: in practice, like you know in seven on seven, same
- 44:41Speaker 1: exact thing, you know, it's the same exact thing. I mean,
- 44:44Speaker 1: that's what I mean. In some ways, it's almost like
- 44:46Speaker 1: just fascinating to me because I remember having the conversation
- 44:49Speaker 1: during camp of is it possible that we're gonna get
- 44:51Speaker 1: to the season and all of a sudden, this is
- 44:52Speaker 1: just going to come. Remember we kept saying okay, and
- 44:54Speaker 1: remember Paul being like, yeah. The first day, the first
- 44:58Speaker 1: day of practice in short still, I remember it was
- 45:01Speaker 1: DeVante Parker with fifty fifty balls and Kendrick Bourne just
- 45:04Speaker 1: running all over the place, making plays and jacking up
- 45:07Speaker 1: the crowd with energy. That's the only day the offense
- 45:10Speaker 1: looked passable the entirety of camp. Yea, and yeah, I
- 45:14Speaker 1: did in the back of my mind saying, well, you know,
- 45:17Speaker 1: I that they might. Yeah, but once the once the
- 45:22Speaker 1: offense looked equally inept in the preseason games, when you're
- 45:24Speaker 1: playing against vanilla coverages, like a lot of ways, going
- 45:27Speaker 1: against your own defense and training camp is harder than
- 45:30Speaker 1: going against the an opponent who's just you know, doing
- 45:33Speaker 1: whatever six four six two stack monster. In the preseason games,
- 45:37Speaker 1: they're just calling the defensive signals. They're not adjusting, they're
- 45:40Speaker 1: not game planning. And when it didn't look good there either,
- 45:43Speaker 1: I was like a couple of shots. You know, there
- 45:46Speaker 1: are a couple of like deep plays mac. Oh, that's
- 45:47Speaker 1: a nice deep throw, right, Yeah, you know I had
- 45:49Speaker 1: a deep one to a Galore I think in the
- 45:51Speaker 1: first Eagles Yeah, I don't know. And Vegas and who
- 45:56Speaker 1: was the first preseason game Carolina Giants was the first Giants,
- 45:59Speaker 1: Carolinas Giants. I remember one deep ball to Aggalo the
- 46:03Speaker 1: preseason and everybody was like, I was like, no, I know,
- 46:09Speaker 1: I know, orff those were I mean, that was a
- 46:11Speaker 1: huge piece of the offense there. Early on, it was
- 46:13Speaker 1: like every play, remember, I was losing my mind. Well,
- 46:16Speaker 1: spe we got it's gonna be an interesting offseason, we'll see. Yeah.
- 46:20Speaker 1: I like Paul stop point earlier also about how the
- 46:23Speaker 1: Indie game coming out of the by last season, that
- 46:25Speaker 1: was a real inflection point. Um, so I just think
- 46:28Speaker 1: it's Yeah, I don't know how you take the sum
- 46:30Speaker 1: total of Max's body of work coming to the end
- 46:32Speaker 1: of the season, how you kind of weigh in his
- 46:34Speaker 1: sophomore or the rookie wall thing against what you've seen
- 46:39Speaker 1: in this season. But just still trying to figure that
- 46:41Speaker 1: guy out is just disappointing this later but in the
- 46:44Speaker 1: game in the season that I still don't really know. Yeah,
- 46:47Speaker 1: that guy. Yea, all right, thanks Be, I think you know. Yeah,
- 46:52Speaker 1: Chad's in Atlanta. What's up, Chad? Hey, Phyllis good. Good
- 46:57Speaker 1: to talk to you again, a long time listener, first
- 47:00Speaker 1: time calling in a very long time. I got two points.
- 47:05Speaker 1: I'll get through him really quick. Um. First one's about Mac.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Seconds about Bill. With Mac, I just I don't think
- 47:12Speaker 1: he's the guy. I don't. I don't personally think Dappy
- 47:16Speaker 1: is either. But I don't really know what the what
- 47:20Speaker 1: we can do with the quarterback position with what we have.
- 47:23Speaker 1: I kind of think Bill was I don't know if
- 47:26Speaker 1: Suckers the right word into drafting Mac. But maybe he
- 47:29Speaker 1: was infatuated with him due to his relationship with Saban.
- 47:33Speaker 1: I don't know, um, but I definitely do think Mac
- 47:37Speaker 1: doesn't have the intangibles. He has slow reads and he's
- 47:41Speaker 1: just the ball is slow getting there. Um. I just
- 47:45Speaker 1: he doesn't have a laser. So I think that calls
- 47:47Speaker 1: us problems. But on to the second point, I think
- 47:50Speaker 1: it all starts and ends with Bill. Um. I think
- 47:54Speaker 1: he made things worse this season when he pulled Mac
- 47:57Speaker 1: after he threw that interception and put Dappy in. I
- 48:00Speaker 1: think that got in his head and I think that
- 48:02Speaker 1: caused the problem. And we can criticize Patricia and Judge
- 48:07Speaker 1: all we want to, but Bill ultimately is the one
- 48:10Speaker 1: that made the decisions to put them there. Um. His
- 48:14Speaker 1: smug like non answers with the media is getting very
- 48:17Speaker 1: old to me. And as far as just like an
- 48:20Speaker 1: overall coach's concerned, I just don't think Bill got it anymore.
- 48:24Speaker 1: I don't think he has it. He had a call
- 48:26Speaker 1: yesterday when I was on chat on the sports Aide
- 48:28Speaker 1: that took took me and us to task for not
- 48:33Speaker 1: calling out Bill for his sour answers. I go, I
- 48:37Speaker 1: don't really think it's the media's responsibility that tell the
- 48:41Speaker 1: coach he needs to answer the more. Yeah, I could
- 48:45Speaker 1: see where that's more annoying when you're not like he
- 48:49Speaker 1: didn't when you were winning and you didn't care about it.
- 48:51Speaker 1: Now all of a sudden, you care about it. Yeah.
- 48:53Speaker 1: I mean for me, it bothered me, then it bothers
- 48:55Speaker 1: me now. But there's nothing's going to change about it, right,
- 48:58Speaker 1: And I don't think it's like I said, it's it's
- 48:59Speaker 1: not my like. I'd be way out of line if
- 49:02Speaker 1: I went into a press conference said Bill, don't you
- 49:05Speaker 1: think you should answer these questions a little bit nicer? Yeah?
- 49:09Speaker 1: Us go away? Yeah, go away? Old man Uh. On
- 49:14Speaker 1: the phone right now is mister Lyff. We haven't heard
- 49:16Speaker 1: from you in a long time. What's up, mister Lyff? Hey,
- 49:19Speaker 1: it's so good to reconnect with you guys. I hope
- 49:22Speaker 1: you're all doing well and having a great holiday season.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Are you been touring the world or what are you doing.
- 49:27Speaker 1: I've been I've been touring the world, just wrapped up
- 49:30Speaker 1: a well. Actually we did a Northeast tour um which
- 49:34Speaker 1: I don't think it's the smartest thing to do in
- 49:35Speaker 1: the winter. But we luckily got through the whole Northeast
- 49:38Speaker 1: tour without getting hit by snow until the very end
- 49:41Speaker 1: when everyone wanted to fly home to be with their families.
- 49:44Speaker 1: Right yeah, so that that that caused them problems for
- 49:48Speaker 1: just about everybody in the band. But uh, but no thing.
- 49:51Speaker 1: Things have been good, good, good, So people don't know.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Mister Lyff is one of our local music producers here, Um,
- 49:59Speaker 1: friend of the show, accomplished musician and producer. We're just
- 50:03Speaker 1: all around good guy. Yeah, great guy. One of the
- 50:06Speaker 1: created the original theme song for PFW. Yeah yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 50:12Speaker 1: We got a bit of a history, fellas, and it's
- 50:15Speaker 1: been enjoyable the whole ride. And as you know, I've
- 50:18Speaker 1: maintained my silence for a while here, but I had
- 50:20Speaker 1: to call in because I just I'm just fed up,
- 50:25Speaker 1: you know, I'm fed up and I'm and I'm disappointed
- 50:28Speaker 1: in so many regards of what's going on with this team,
- 50:31Speaker 1: particularly this season. Um, I'm not a believer in Mac
- 50:35Speaker 1: Jones at all. I just I just think he's a
- 50:37Speaker 1: bad quarterback. I personally believe that he makes everyone around
- 50:41Speaker 1: him worse. I think he's goofy everything from his his
- 50:44Speaker 1: his overall antics, whether it be on the spidelines, you know,
- 50:48Speaker 1: when he's you know, got injured in Baltimore, tried to
- 50:50Speaker 1: hop up. I think most things that he does just
- 50:53Speaker 1: look goofy to me and don't embody the character that
- 50:55Speaker 1: I'm looking to see in a in the leader of
- 50:59Speaker 1: the New England Patriots at a quarterback position. As far
- 51:04Speaker 1: as Bill's decision making, you know, for me, the only
- 51:09Speaker 1: fun part of this season was when Zappy was playing period.
- 51:13Speaker 1: That is when I felt like I was watching Patriots
- 51:15Speaker 1: football watching his ascension. I know people will make the
- 51:18Speaker 1: argument that the Browns are a week team, and you know,
- 51:23Speaker 1: the Lions, particularly at that point in the season, were
- 51:26Speaker 1: a week team and Dappy did beat them. But I
- 51:29Speaker 1: think that it was evident to the entire fan base
- 51:31Speaker 1: when Zappy took the helm in the Green Bay Packers
- 51:34Speaker 1: game on the road, that the kid had poised. He
- 51:39Speaker 1: embodied a lot of those elements that I think people
- 51:42Speaker 1: wanted to see, and that's why there was Dappy Fever.
- 51:44Speaker 1: I don't understand why Bill Belichick felt that it was
- 51:48Speaker 1: necessary to at that time prematurely we inject Mac Jones
- 51:52Speaker 1: into the lineup. When Zappy was rolling in the whole
- 51:55Speaker 1: fan base wanted Dappy to play, and that bears game
- 51:59Speaker 1: to me. At that point, Bill broke the spell of
- 52:01Speaker 1: the magic that had been casted, and since then, since
- 52:05Speaker 1: Maca's returned, Patriots Football for me has been virtually unwatchable. Um,
- 52:10Speaker 1: I just think that he is. There's nothing I like
- 52:13Speaker 1: about what I'm seeing at all. Um, Once I saw
- 52:16Speaker 1: a Zappy get into the game, I honestly I never
- 52:18Speaker 1: I didn't care if I ever saw Mac Jones play
- 52:21Speaker 1: another Donald football. To be real with you, guys, I've
- 52:24Speaker 1: been done. I've been done for a long time. I
- 52:27Speaker 1: feel like we wasted this season. I feel like this
- 52:29Speaker 1: this this roster, as presently constituted, could would be a
- 52:33Speaker 1: playoff team and would win at least one playoff game
- 52:38Speaker 1: under Zappy's leadership. I just think that Mac is a
- 52:41Speaker 1: complete stiff and I'm done. Wow. Okay, mister Left hard words,
- 52:46Speaker 1: don't be a stranger, don't be a strange. All right, Yeah,
- 52:50Speaker 1: come by if you want to luck Bud, all right,
- 52:52Speaker 1: thanks for hearing in front of you. All right, mister Left,
- 52:54Speaker 1: who is he? He's a localst rapper, um and producer
- 52:59Speaker 1: and uh you know called in one day, said he's
- 53:01Speaker 1: a big fan of the show, sent us his CDs
- 53:04Speaker 1: and everything, and then he created one of our first
- 53:07Speaker 1: theme songs. Do you have that? Yeah, let's let's play that.
- 53:10Speaker 1: Let's play This is a mister Lyft creation. All right,
- 53:15Speaker 1: let me let me know when you have. Yeah. So
- 53:17Speaker 1: he's been in um, he's he's he's been a guest
- 53:20Speaker 1: on the show. But he he travels the world. Um,
- 53:23Speaker 1: and he and his uh, his band and you know
- 53:25Speaker 1: they put on shows all over the place. Yeah. Yeah,
- 53:28Speaker 1: so he's out on the Patriots, I guess. Yeah. But
- 53:30Speaker 1: he's a big fan. I mean no, I mean, like
- 53:32Speaker 1: not the only one, like like that's a good I
- 53:34Speaker 1: mean he's a he's a real fan. You know, he's
- 53:37Speaker 1: not just like you know, uh Johnny come lately. He's
- 53:41Speaker 1: been a fan for a long time and this this
- 53:44Speaker 1: is really bothering him. You know, I understand. M Evans here, Yes, sir,
- 53:49Speaker 1: how you doing? Okay? I was I was giving you props.
- 53:54Speaker 1: You know at some point though, we do need to
- 53:56Speaker 1: go over your list of grievances, because I know that, yes,
- 53:59Speaker 1: you made a list, but the team or with with us,
- 54:02Speaker 1: with us, But I was giving you props because a
- 54:07Speaker 1: lot of analysts in twenty two guys are on the
- 54:10Speaker 1: spacing layering bandwagon, but you were on that like weeks ago. Yes, uh,
- 54:19Speaker 1: I have come to terms and I'm not going to
- 54:21Speaker 1: be triggered by the mister lyft is that lift flif flift.
- 54:26Speaker 1: I'm not going to be triggered by his call because
- 54:29Speaker 1: I have come to terms with the fact that Mac
- 54:33Speaker 1: Jones is just unlikable. He's just an unlikable dude, right,
- 54:39Speaker 1: And that's I can't listening. Didn't like Tom Brady either.
- 54:44Speaker 1: I can't change people's minds about that, right, Like, if
- 54:48Speaker 1: you don't like his his attitude and the quote unquote
- 54:52Speaker 1: dirty plays that have been have been circling, and like,
- 54:56Speaker 1: if you don't like those elements, I can't. I can't
- 55:00Speaker 1: change your mind and I'm not going to argue with
- 55:02Speaker 1: you because that's personally your feeling towards the quarterback. If
- 55:07Speaker 1: you put this film, especially from the second half, on Saturday,
- 55:11Speaker 1: and you just changed the jersey, changed the name on
- 55:15Speaker 1: the back of it and just said that this was
- 55:18Speaker 1: quarterback X and here was his second half, people would
- 55:22Speaker 1: be saying he played great, okay, right, but they don't
- 55:25Speaker 1: like them. So I can't you know? I posted on
- 55:28Speaker 1: Twitter before I got here the whole shot that he
- 55:33Speaker 1: hit the Kendrick Bourne on the right sideline, an absolute
- 55:37Speaker 1: seed right like it. The throw was an absolute dime
- 55:41Speaker 1: far hash whole shot into cover two. And if Justin
- 55:46Speaker 1: Herbert makes that throw, it's on ESPN. It's, oh my god,
- 55:52Speaker 1: what a throw, right, And then I post the throw
- 55:54Speaker 1: of Mac Jones making it. It should have been intercepted.
- 55:58Speaker 1: It was the wrong read. It was this. It was
- 56:00Speaker 1: that negatives. Right. You're not going to change people's minds
- 56:04Speaker 1: at this point, so it's it is what it is.
- 56:07Speaker 1: He's gonna have to change people's minds. And I think,
- 56:09Speaker 1: you know, I can kind of already speak for you, Paul,
- 56:12Speaker 1: because I think you're gonna say. I ain't saying nothing, Paul.
- 56:16Speaker 1: If you win, all of this goes away, right. I
- 56:18Speaker 1: think that that that that's a big thing about it too. No,
- 56:21Speaker 1: I think if his play is the same and they win,
- 56:23Speaker 1: I don't think there's a much more positive outlook on him.
- 56:26Speaker 1: I don't. I don't. I think if they scored thirty
- 56:30Speaker 1: five points every week and one, that's different. But when
- 56:32Speaker 1: you score a touchdown every game, people are upset. People
- 56:36Speaker 1: are like you, Fred, this isn't normal passing offense, right.
- 56:39Speaker 1: So yeah, no one said they didn't make any good throws,
- 56:42Speaker 1: but not enough. They don't make enough good They don't
- 56:45Speaker 1: make enough plays like the one Evan just talked about.
- 56:48Speaker 1: That was a good play. I know the play he's
- 56:49Speaker 1: talking about. Yeah, but they don't make enough of those.
- 56:52Speaker 1: And I mentioned the one that he put on Thornton's hands.
- 56:54Speaker 1: Thornton has to catch it, right, certainly a good enough
- 56:57Speaker 1: throw for a big chunk play, and he didn't catch it.
- 57:00Speaker 1: But that's not on match. It sounds like to me,
- 57:01Speaker 1: Evan from your film study, the body of work in
- 57:04Speaker 1: the second half was good for him. No, the body
- 57:07Speaker 1: of work for him, for him, for him, for him. Yes.
- 57:11Speaker 1: So here's the biggest thing from the first of all,
- 57:15Speaker 1: the first half and sprinklings in the second half as well.
- 57:18Speaker 1: I think one of the notions is that the second
- 57:21Speaker 1: half was a well oiled machine and the first half
- 57:24Speaker 1: was a dumpster It was a dumpster fire for four quarters.
- 57:27Speaker 1: It was bad for four quarters. What happened in the
- 57:29Speaker 1: second half was that Mac and Kendrick Bourne made some
- 57:32Speaker 1: plays right, and that I think mass the fact that
- 57:36Speaker 1: a lot of the same issues came up in the
- 57:39Speaker 1: second half that came up in the first half. It
- 57:41Speaker 1: just luckily they made some plays. Individuals made some place.
- 57:45Speaker 1: So I thought that this tape on the whole was
- 57:48Speaker 1: actually pretty was fine. From back, I thought it was
- 57:51Speaker 1: pretty good. Their offense, their passing offense, is making mistakes
- 57:58Speaker 1: that I can't even explain in words of English high
- 58:05Speaker 1: school college Like, it's just the spacing is terrible, the
- 58:10Speaker 1: communication is terrible. The routes themselves, if you just look
- 58:14Speaker 1: at the breakdown the technique of the routes that these
- 58:16Speaker 1: receivers are running terrible across the board. I mean, Mac
- 58:21Speaker 1: is sitting there and they're showing all out pressure and
- 58:25Speaker 1: he's tapping his wrist to send a signal to everybody
- 58:28Speaker 1: that it's just that he's gonna check to his screen
- 58:30Speaker 1: because they're gonna send a pressure and nobody, nobody looks
- 58:36Speaker 1: for the ball. They all just run up field like,
- 58:40Speaker 1: and maybe that's on him that they didn't get the
- 58:43Speaker 1: signal right, and maybe he's got to bark at them
- 58:45Speaker 1: and say, hey, right right, hello to side with the
- 58:50Speaker 1: revers to the right, yes, And then they didn't even
- 58:51Speaker 1: blitz right and then they didn't even blitz, which that happens.
- 58:55Speaker 1: You know, Joe Burrow, The same thing happened to Joe
- 58:57Speaker 1: Burrow right where they they showed blitz and then they
- 58:59Speaker 1: backed off and he checked into his screen and the
- 59:02Speaker 1: same exact thing. So that piece of it happens. But
- 59:05Speaker 1: you have guys that are just not even looking for
- 59:08Speaker 1: the football. You're calling a screen. Nobody's running the screen. Yeah,
- 59:12Speaker 1: you Telly like pull it up. And he was like,
- 59:15Speaker 1: like you could literally talk for an hour. And I
- 59:18Speaker 1: know that Evans watched all these plays a million times
- 59:20Speaker 1: and he knows all the different things that did wrong,
- 59:22Speaker 1: like all the different things like during the course of
- 59:25Speaker 1: the game. Unfortunately, the very last play of the game, Okay,
- 59:28Speaker 1: I know you have no shot, Okay, but you're gonna
- 59:31Speaker 1: go out there on fourth down and you're gonna throw
- 59:33Speaker 1: the ball as far as you can do you know
- 59:35Speaker 1: what happened on that play They had alignment called for
- 59:39Speaker 1: being illegally downfield. Ye. Like, it just to me totally
- 59:44Speaker 1: encapsulates the ineptitude on that side of the ball that
- 59:48Speaker 1: we've seen for fifteen games. Yeah, one thing I wanted
- 59:52Speaker 1: you brought up born making plays and of course the
- 59:55Speaker 1: theme is where's he been? Why have they playing? Bill
- 59:57Speaker 1: hadj every rice he's been in Mothball, Bill an answer,
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: you know, why haven't you been using him? And he
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: had he said no particular reason, and everybody was gonna
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: say he had an answer, and everybody, everybody was all
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: over him. But you know what I was thinking about that,
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: It's like he could be just blowing you off, but
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: he could also be saying no particular reason. It's a
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: whole bunch of reasons why he hasn't been playing. You know,
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: maybe he meant that. Maybe he meant there's no particular reason,
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: but there's a million reasons why he hasn't been. Maybe,
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: you know, maybe that maybe he that was his prepared
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: answer for anyone that I'm just gonna that's not the real,
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the real thing that he meant, because that, to me
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: is even worse. If he's like a litany of things
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: that he's done wrong and he's out there, that makes
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: me feel he had to be out there because he
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: didn't not. If he's done a litany of things wrong,
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: he shouldn't be active, that shouldn't be on the team.
- 1:00:49Speaker 1: I'm not talking about agree, I'm just talking about reasons
- 1:00:52Speaker 1: why other guys are playing ahead of him, you know,
- 1:00:55Speaker 1: and at that point you had to get him out there, right,
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: you know, um, because but that what that could have been,
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: what he meant. There's no particular reason, but there's a
- 1:01:05Speaker 1: lot of reasons. Yeah. I hate to Kendrick Bourne because
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: he was the only guy that actually played well on
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: offense in this game. But at the same time, Scott
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: Johnny Smith killed right like he So they're running, you know,
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: a stick to Johnny Smith and then Kendrick Bourne runs
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: an under in this to the same spot that Johnny
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: Smith is running the stick, and so he gets sandwiched
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: between two defenders and and gets and gets put into
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: concussion protocol right there. There's no there's no level of
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: football that tells you to run those two routes next
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: to each other. And that could be. One of the
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: reasons is that he's just not playing smart. He's not
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: using his head out there, you know, as talented as
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: he is. That's I think what we don't know. And
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: that's right, you know, I don't know. I don't think
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: up this way, and so you know, it's just where's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: the communication. I mean, certainly it's not being coach properly
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: or relate to the players. But it also seems like
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: they're not locked in multiple senses of pre snap calls,
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: changes to the play. They're they're not all on the
- 1:02:09Speaker 1: same page. And I mean, Paul, you know, it's like
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: you keep pulling out perfect examples of like they're just
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: so many because they keep doing it. There's like if
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: you could just say, you know what, we have X,
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: Y and Z that's really going well, but A is
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: really hurting us, then you could fix it. But every
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: time you fix A, X, Y and Z go hey wire. Right,
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: that's the problem the Patriots this year exactly one day
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: because we stink. One day, you're driving it right down
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: the middle, but you can't hit an iron to save
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: your life. Right the next day, you can't chip or put.
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: The next day you're all and you're in the woods
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: off off of every t like because we stink, right,
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: I think that I'll leave the last part out. If
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: they got everybody mentally on the same page. I'm not
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: saying they'd be some elite offense, but I think that
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: they would at least be representable. Yes, the issue that
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: they the biggest issue that they have right now is
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: before we get to scheming and play designing and secret
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: in all the details of running a good offense. The
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: biggest issue that they have right now is that guys
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: are not running the right routes right, Like they just
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: aren't on the same page. Some guys are running one play,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: another guy's running another. Like on the play that Hunter
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: Henry gets hurt on, Johnny Smith is just crossing over
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: the field and he's looking for the ball the whole
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: time because he doesn't expect that Hunter Henry is going
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: to be there right right. And you know, one of
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the things I was saying earlier, Evan, and you know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: I don't know if you agree with me, but there's
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: no way that this is just rearing its head in
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: the games. It has to be happening in practice, yeah,
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: you know. And so like that's that's my problem is,
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: Like you could say, well, it's the players they're not executing. Well,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I can't believe that it's just in the game that
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: they're not executing. Yeah, you know, it must be happening
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: in practice. Well, I do think that there is some
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: element espec because I've asked that question privately and because
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: I have had the same exact reaction as you like,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: if it's this bad and practice, how are we not
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: coaching it up? Right? Like? How are we not correcting this?
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: And I look at everybody wants to point out Patricia,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: But Bill's watching the same practices too, right, right, so
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: right if he's seeing this and Bill Belichick is not
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: correcting it. And I think the best explanation that that
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: I got was that the practices that they have right
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: now are not truly live bullets, right, Like, they're not
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: truly live and you can't simulate what it's going to
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: be in a game and a practice, especially list late
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: in the year with all the rules and stuff like
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: that and pads and everything. But we're talking about spacing.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: But in a walkthrough, yeah, it's very easy to jog
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: to the right place that you're supposed to be in
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: and and and make the cut and whatever. But when
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: then all of a sudden, you have to go and
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: do it in a game. And now you're adjusting the
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: play at the line of scrimmage, and now stop stop
- 1:05:04Speaker 1: right this, stop right there, because you know, here's the play,
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: here's the play. Here's the part of the play sequence
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: that applies to me. I know the route I'm supposed
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: to to run, right, that's don't overthink it. But like
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: you said, okay, line of scrimmage adjustments, pre snap adjustments,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: that's the part that maybe you can't simulate in practice.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: So somehow like even that, like there has to be
- 1:05:30Speaker 1: a way to address that, like early on realizing Max's
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: not getting everybody's not on the same page, there's there
- 1:05:37Speaker 1: has to be a way to overcome that mid season, right,
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: And then you also get you know, you know, what
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: coverage is the defense running and how does it adjust
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: based off the coverage in this But I think in
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: this in the second half or what I think, and
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: I try not to fall into the trap of the
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: Minnesota game with the second half because I didn't want
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: to overhype it and be like this is replicable and
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: this was a turning point for this offense, like some
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: of us did against Minnesota. And I think the problem
- 1:06:07Speaker 1: that you have with the replicable piece of it is
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: that they basically just stripped it down to bare bones
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: in the second half and they were running four verticals
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: and like you know, just basic basic passing concepts, remedial offense. Yeah,
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: just like literally day one install like mini camp stuff,
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: because all the checks and this and that and everything
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: was in the first half was an abject disaster. So
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: they just ran four verticals like, they just ran guys
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: up the field and Mac made you know, the throw
- 1:06:37Speaker 1: to where it was best. Yeah, I thought this was
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: kind of interesting. This is a quote from Matt Patricia
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: this morning on that first third down. We've talked so
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: much about a little insight I think into what we're
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: talking Maybe when we went into that play, we had
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: a really good play that we practiced and thought we
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: had a couple good options on it. I think we
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: saw the play a little bit different on the field
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: and got to just clean that up. From that standpoint,
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: we saw the play a little bit different on the
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: field because of the defense that they were. We thought
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: they'd be in covered. But I think that maybe that
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: is a big problem that if that's what he's saying,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: that happens to every team. How do you know what
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: you're gonna get? Right? Don't you don't know what you're
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: gonna get. But I think it's an example of what
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: we talked about before Everon joined us, with the fear
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: of the coaches think it's on the players, the players
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: think it's on the coaches, right, coaches telling you there,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: we thought we had a good play. They saw it
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: a little bit differently on the field, right, that we
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: did right, Like, that's how I interpret that. I don't
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: know how you went to hell like in other words,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: like the play was there, they didn't run the right roads.
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: But it's which I agree with news because I'm with Evan.
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: There's no design, nobody ever designed to play to have
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: your tight ends run crosses and smash into each other.
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: News flash, though the other team's trying too, like they're
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: trying to did someone bump bump someone off the road
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: a little bit? You know? I don't know. The worst
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: part about the first third down is, at least the
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: way I see it on the film, the Bengals bust
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: the coverage and there's nobody on Johnny Smith. And if
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: he just doesn't collide with Hunter Henry, then there's a
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: completion there on the film. But like I said earlier
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: about the play, he never looks to where Hunter Henry
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: is going, which if there there is a play, no, no,
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: John Smith is looking for the ball the whole time. Okay,
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: And and there is a play that's called you know,
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: I call it usually mesh and they do cross right
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: like that? Is there a mesh point, right? There is
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: a design that they intersect like that. But when they
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: run that play, the receivers don't look back for the
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: football until they clear each other, right like, they run
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: it and then they clear each other, and then we
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: look for the football because we have to make sure
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: we don't run into each other. That's a good explanation. Yeah,
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: he's not the mesh point. He's talking about something a
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: little bit. In other words, he wants them to cross.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: They're supposed to be looking to make sure that they
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: don't bang into each other, and they don't look for
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: the ball until after you've cleared right right. I think
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: that's what you explain. And most teams like to get
- 1:09:05Speaker 1: it down to bare bones on that play. A lot
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: of coaches will teach the players to actually high five
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: on the field in live action and not like that.
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: But the point of doing it's the point of the
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: high five. The point of the high five is to
- 1:09:24Speaker 1: get the spacing down right is to you, because you
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: really do, you're creating a rub against man coverage. You're
- 1:09:29Speaker 1: trying to pick off the man coverage defenders, so you
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: give the high five as a way to make sure
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: that you're close enough but you're not on top of
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: each other and you're not colliding. So if that was
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: the design, Johnny Smith didn't know that was the design
- 1:09:44Speaker 1: because he doesn't do that. He just keeps running right
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: and he runs right into Hunter Henry. Plus Hunter Henry's
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: running a square in and John who's running acrosser. Like
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I just I can't, for the life of me figure
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: out how square in and a crosser are on the
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: same on the same diagram like that. That's just not
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: a play design that exists. And I know we're getting
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: ready to take a break, but real quick, did did
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: you you feel like these issues? These spacing issue has
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: been a problem all year right, all year right, So
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: Troy Bryant was asked about it and he doesn't don't
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: think it's been a big problem. I asked him, did
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: you hear that I asked him about it? I asked
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: him about it a few weeks ago, and he was
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: a lot harsher about it than he was today. So
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: maybe he's getting a little sick and tired of the question,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: or maybe it's like he's starting to hear people say,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: what's the wide receiver coach to him because that has
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: started to happen. Maybe, yeah, it's just circle. But just
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: like concepts in the passing game. There was another one
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: with kenry Bourne, like it's yeah, I agree with Evan,
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: like they have too many plays where it seems like
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: there's multiple guy. There was a play that they they
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: made a big play against the Raiders that I thought
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: was going to get knocked down by another receiver, like
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: because I thought the guy in now wisely they let
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: it go, but I thought there was a chance that
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: he was going to go for it and it is
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: going to prevent the I think it was Myers. I
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: don't know. Forget. I think it was against the Raiders,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: and I think it was Myers, But you know, me Cte,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: I forget, forget the little things. Yeah, it's it's been
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: a problem all the year. I mean a good example
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: of it was the overthrow to Johnny Smith in the
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: end zone against the Raiders. It was not not Mac's
- 1:11:19Speaker 1: best throw by any means, but Tai Kwon is running
- 1:11:23Speaker 1: an under and john is running the corner and Taikon
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: just takes ten hours to get out of the break right,
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: Like he's just standing there trying to like throw fakes
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: and like whatever. And the under route that Tai Kwon
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: is running is to declare where the corner is on
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: the outside is going. Is he gonna drop or is
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: he gonna match the under? Because if he matches the under,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: it creates the separation for Johnny Smith and Mac has
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: to throw it to the back pylon and basically make
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: a perfect throw because Taikwon never gets into the route,
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: so he doesn't know what the corner on the outside
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: is doing. So these little spacing things. It's not just colliding, right,
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: it's also just the way that the play unfolds. It
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: makes it impossible for the quarterback to read the coverage
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: because they're the defensive backs are not declared. Doesn't look
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: the same way, right, I don't know. All right, we're
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: gonna take a break. I think it's a good conversation.

- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Progress show. Once that was up before Eric or he
- 1:23:50Speaker 1: just leak he just left Derek off. Yeah, that was

- 1:23:55Speaker 1: Remember we added and Derek at the end. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: for now anyway, Yeah right, um, yeah, so mister Liff,
- 1:24:03Speaker 1: that was pretty much good as far as Matt doesn't.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Mattam for lifting eminem song. Wow, that's why he likes it. Yep,
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: good guy. Geno's piece had to do with a dream
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I had. Well we'll get into that some day. Yeah. No,
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: it's about dreaming about Geno's piece. Un yeah, member, yeah,
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: I was. I was in an elevator and I thought
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: it was Gino Smith. I'm not gonna lie. It was
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: attached to his hip for some reason. Anyway, Well, that's
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: a story for another day. It sounds like they're vacuuming outside.
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: What's going on the clean up from the mess the
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: Patriots left on the field? Oh sorry, all right. US
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: five hundred is the aticket hot line web radio at
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: Patriots dot com is the email address. You know we're
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: talking about, you know, some of the difficulties saying it
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: nicely that they've been having on offense and and all
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: that stuff. Andrew writes in from La about mesh Roots,
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: says Patricia should be very familiar with wide receivers. High
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: fiving on mess roots since the Eagles were consistently doing
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: it in the Super Bowl against his defense. Good Paula,
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: what does pay attention? Maybe Nelly can teach him how
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: to do it since he was one of the receivers
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: that was high fiving during that Tobacco ps. I hate
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: his coaching staff when he was when I was explaining that,
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: that's exactly what I was thinking about. It's a good
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: job by the listener. Uh, let's get back to the phones. Um.
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: We'll start with Darnell and Florida. What's up? Darnell? Hey, guys,
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: how are you doing? Can you hear me? Okay, we can. So,
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: first of all, thank you guys for getting us through
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: these typicult times like you guys always do for the
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: last few years. Huh yeah. But I'm wondering. I'm wondering
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: if we're going to um do anything at all about
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: um Matt Patricia. First of all, like everybody else, UM,
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: I think that not. We're going to asked for another change,
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: and we've seen how um back is. We change, first
- 1:26:01Speaker 1: of all, UM, and that's what excuse me now, So
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: you know we're gonna go into this next season, we
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: want to change maybe you know, a different coordinatle and
- 1:26:11Speaker 1: are we gonna ask for Matt input at this point?
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: But where we go from here? I think that you know,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: the organization is we're at a really suck point, you
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: know what I mean as fans and as a team. Yeah,
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: And I just wanted to know what you guys thought.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: You know, it's interesting, I mean, like what does Bill think?
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: What does Bill think about a quarterback? You know why
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: we know what our fans think and people are kind
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: of split or maybe it's you know, more against him
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: in form at this point, but like what does Bill think?
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: And that's what we're all trying to figure out. Does
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: he think it's the players, does he think it's Mac,
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: Does he think it's the coaches? We don't know. We
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: have no idea really, you know, I mean, he can't
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: be happy with it. The way the press conference on
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: Thursday made me feel like it seems like he just
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: came off watching them do what they do on the
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: practice field because he was not not happy, not in
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: any kind of mood to do anything. Came in with
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: you know, winner coat on. But I don't know, I mean,
- 1:27:10Speaker 1: that's just what we're all hoping that he sees what's
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: been going on and says we got to make some
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: significant changes to to rejigger how this is working. I mean,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: I think I would be you know, maybe if like
- 1:27:20Speaker 1: somebody like Mayo left or you know, something, that could
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: kind of be the catalyst to like, all right, let's
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: kind of restructure a little bit, let's move some guys
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: around and and really maybe bring in some some new minds.
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: But the thing is, like, if Bill thinks, you know,
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Max's just not on board, he's not getting a bub
- 1:27:35Speaker 1: He's not going to ask his input on a new
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: offensive coordinator. If Bill thinks he needs a new offensive cording,
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: I gotta be honest, like a second year quarterback, I'm
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: not saying that like he is intentionally kept out of
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: the loop, but I'm not really all that interested in
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: his input on the offensive coordinator. True, Like Aaron Rodgers,
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Tom Brady, yeah, Peyton Man, guys that have been in
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: the league for ten plus years. Yeah, you want to
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: you know, what, what do you know about this guy?
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: You know you're comfortable with this guy, Mac Jones two
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: years in right, right, I don't know, Like, again, I'm
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: not intentionally shutting him out of the process either, like, I, oh,
- 1:28:15Speaker 1: if you know we got an offensive quiting it, don't
- 1:28:17Speaker 1: let Mac know who that is. No, that's not what
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: I'm saying. Yeah, this is a guy with thinking about Mac.
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: You know, why don't you guys talk to you know,
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: let me know what you think or whatever. You know? No, no,
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: do better. But you know by helping, I don't. He
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: doesn't help. He does. He's one of them. Like I'm snarky.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: He's flat out me Like, I don't know. Like again,
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: like Paul said, you know, Deuce didn't like Tom Brady,
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: So I don't know what, like, what's not the opposite?
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: I like all the quarterball? What's gonna make you happy?
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: I don't know. We gotta get back to thirteen win seasons,
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Fred twelve, he's I need fourteen wins. Actually it's seventeen. Ah,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: let's go to John and Maine. What's up John? Oh? Job?
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Party on the hell with you guys? Does that mean
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: a strong option? Does that mean strong option? That's a
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: crap sheet speak. That's what you're talking about, Bill O'Brien,
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: is a strong option for patriots. That was the report
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: over the weekend that lifted the report from Burt Brere
- 1:29:16Speaker 1: and you know, like a month or later. What is
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: like really? What does that mean? He's a strong option?
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: I agree, like like you think he is? Is he really? Are?
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: They think like that could mean anything? I agree, I
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: know exactly who thinks it is m But like what
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: what's kind of been for the what the catch twent?
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: He's only dropping on him Brook today? Yeah? Yeah, unless
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: but like what that's ridiculous? Well that's I mean, there's
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: just so much of it. And of course, of course
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: he's a good fit. I don't think anybody I say,
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know anything, but he's a good fit.
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: Of course, he was here, he knows how it works,
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: He's been around. He's an offensive you know his mac
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: a little bit of course. But oh that's so desperate
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: to make a headline. I don't think it's them who's
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: desperate to make it Mac, I don't think. No. Together,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: thank higher and keep your mouth shut up. Let's go
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: to Sean and Vancouver. What's up, Sean. I'm here, Eavan,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: I speaking, Hey Sean, thanks for not hanging up. Yeah,
- 1:30:16Speaker 1: you're welcome. No, I understand where Mossillis is coming from.
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: Was zappy and I don't I don't I think there's
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: more to it than that, because when they brought in Zappy,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: they simplified things. They said, we're gonna go with the
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: run game. They were fortunate to have six strong offensive
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: linemen where it was working or weren't able to run
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: the ball and youth play action and Zappy showed success
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: with that. And when they went back to Mac against
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: the Bears that he couldn't do that, and then they
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: brought Zappy and he couldn't do it either. When they're
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: coming from behind, you can't you can't like have that
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: same play action success. So it wasn't so much that
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: Zappy is necessarily better this season than Mac. It's it's
- 1:31:02Speaker 1: just nothing's working. And I saw Mac play well last
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: year and I still remember that, and I'm just wondering,
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: Izz he broken. Can Can we fix it? If we
- 1:31:12Speaker 1: bring in better players on the offensive line, we bring
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: in a top receiver M and we bring in a coach,
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: we bring in coaches that can can we put him
- 1:31:22Speaker 1: back on track to be a possible solid starting quarterback. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:31:28Speaker 1: it's a good question. So, I I mean, I don't,
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: you know, I don't I don't know if he's going
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: to be what you need to get to take on
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen consistently and and go toe
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: to toe with those guys. But I just think with
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: a competent offensive system coordinator, everybody's on the same page that.
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: I mean, he showed it last year. He was he
- 1:31:45Speaker 1: was an average quarterback, which at this point I'm sure
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: we would all take. But yeah, I think I think
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: he can definitely be better. I don't know how good
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: he can be. I don't know if he's, you know,
- 1:31:53Speaker 1: going to take the Patriots to their seventh Super Bowl,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: But I think that he can be a serviceable starter
- 1:31:57Speaker 1: and as we've seen the last couple of years, keep
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: them in the mix and around the middle of the
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: league and those those kind of rankings that stuff. Oh hey,

- 1:32:34Speaker 1: name doesn't get brought up a lot? No, I mean
- 1:32:37Speaker 1: everyone's talking about Bill and Matt, but no one's talking
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: about Joe Judge a lot. Dude, like as the quarterback coach. Now,
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: you know, like you wonder what input what Rolie has
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: in this whole thing. He's kind of he kind of
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: drew the lucky straw. I think this year of you're
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: going to be a little bit out of a spot.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Like Yeah, but I mean I'd put him right in
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: the mix with everybody. And I mean I think just
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: go down the list of issues we've been talking about.
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: Everything's an issue. I mean you can point at the
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: quarterback coach for some of this stuff too, of Mac
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: you know, Russian to change the play, not making sure
- 1:33:08Speaker 1: everybody's on the same page, those kind of things like
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: you know, I don't know where the overlap is for
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: each individual responsibility, right, I just I look at Bills
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: responsible and Maddie p and Joe Judges accomplishes who were
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: kind of thrust into this position. Yeah. Carla is in Florida.
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: She says, love the show. Paul was discussing the Heaven
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: Can Wait movie. It's so funny. Anyone that loves football
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: has to see it. I looked it up. By the way,
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: it wasn't a bomb that didn't flop. He had like
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: Oscar nominations and wins and stuff. Oh well, then I'm
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: thinking of a Warren Baity that movie that flopped it Washtar,
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: that's the one that's like a famously terrible movie. Okay, yeah,
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: sorry huge. As for the Patriots, hoping the twenty twenty
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: three season will bring some positive changes. Not a big
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: fan of Mac, but maybe he needs another chance with
- 1:33:55Speaker 1: a real creative offensive coordinator. I feel for the defense
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: who seemed to be always keeping us in the game,
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: only to see the offense screw up those opportunities. But
- 1:34:05Speaker 1: you know, like, but that's the thing, Like, okay, so
- 1:34:08Speaker 1: now you bring in this really creative offensive person, how
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: is that going to make anything better if guys can't
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: run routes or community you know, like, well that's what
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: he's got to that's what this part of coordinating the offense.
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: You know, the question is is they having a hard
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: time running the routes because they're not being properly explained
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: and uh, you know, right learned or whatever, or they're not.
- 1:34:29Speaker 1: They have flawed designs to them that are you know,
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: more susceptible to you know, bad spacing and whatnot. I
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: don't there's a lot of things that we don't know,
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: but I'm just saying there's a I just think at
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: least you can see there's a lot of factors that
- 1:34:42Speaker 1: the players don't have a big picture of what they're
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: trying to accomplish. And I think a lot of times
- 1:34:47Speaker 1: what the Patriots are trying to do on both sides
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: of the ball is to have players who aren't just
- 1:34:51Speaker 1: learning a position, but are understanding the whole concept of
- 1:34:54Speaker 1: how they fit into that. And so if they have
- 1:34:56Speaker 1: to move like a guy like you know, Dugger, who
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: you're playing in multiple kind of positions, is that you know,
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: it's not like he only knows one position. He knows
- 1:35:02Speaker 1: the concept. It doesn't seem like any of these guys
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: know the concept and how they're It seems like they
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: kind of have a sense of what they think they're
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: supposed to do maybe and they're doing that and not.
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: Evan's point on that play in the end zone with
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: Jono Smith the one that Mac made the throw wide
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: to the back corner and it took Thornton forever to
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: sort of clear out of the way. Do you understand
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: that what you're doing is important on play? Yes, I'm
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: it affects everybody right right right, how you fit into it,
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: even though the ball is probably not coming to you.
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: What you're doing is vital and do your job and
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: you're one of eleven is they like to say. And
- 1:35:38Speaker 1: that's such a big part of it to me as well,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: which is why when we talk about potentially next coordinators,
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: I don't think Bill O'Brien's the most creative offensive genius,
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: Like I don't think he's one of these wizard schemers
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: or anything like that. But it's just a level of
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: professionalism that I think that this group needs to get
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: back to, of everybody being on the same page, having
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: a concrete plan that everyone understands, and like he's a
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: professional offensive coach and that's what he brings to the
- 1:36:05Speaker 1: table help And I think the biggest thing, you know,
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: you guys are pointing to all these good examples. They
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: had multiple dropbacks on Saturday with unblocked blitzers coming off
- 1:36:17Speaker 1: the edge just guys unblocked, unobated to the quarterback, just
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: completely untouched to the QB. And that point comes back
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: to what's the plan? Like when we get to the
- 1:36:29Speaker 1: line of scrimmage and we see that they're showing pressure,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: what's the answer? And so much of quarterbacking offense in
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: general when it comes to pre snap is is problem solved? Right?
- 1:36:41Speaker 1: Like you have a blitz that they're showing, and a
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: couple of times the Bengals didn't even disguise it. They
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: just came all up at the line of scrimmage and
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: we're like, we're coming, and they just don't seem like
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: they have the tools to then go ahead and say,
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: all right, I'm gonna move the running back over here.
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: I'm gonna move the tight over there. This guy's my hot.
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: Like they don't have a plan for what's going to happen.
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: So what ends up happening is they you know, they
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: slide to protection one way, it leaves the backside completely unblocked.
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: He comes in on blocked. Then everybody's running vertical rounde.
- 1:37:15Speaker 1: So it's like, even if he wants to throw hot,
- 1:37:18Speaker 1: there's nobody to even throw hot too. So there's just
- 1:37:20Speaker 1: no plan in place to be like, when we get
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: this look, this is what we're going to do for it.
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: And that to me comes back to the week at practice.
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: It comes back to game planning and preparation and coaching
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: and all that kind of stuff, because we never it
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: wasn't that they never missed a blitz or never you know,
- 1:37:38Speaker 1: got pressure on a blitz against them or anything like that,
- 1:37:41Speaker 1: but you could always explain on the film, this is
- 1:37:44Speaker 1: what they were trying to do to pick up this
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: blitz or beat this blitz. And now you just never
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: can understand how is he supposed to survive that play? Like,
- 1:37:54Speaker 1: how is he supposed to get the ball out here?
- 1:37:56Speaker 1: How are they supposed to get it blocked? You know,
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: they're sliding the protection into the left hand side and
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: Trent Brown and Kevin Harris are blocking the same guy.
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: But then the backside at rusher is unblocked. So you
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: had two you had two on one, so you had
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: the numbers, so you had the numbers to block it,
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: but you just didn't configure the guys the correct way.
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: And if I had to downgrade Mac anything in this
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: game significantly, I would say that that is partially on
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: the quarterback right like it's his job to get the
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: protection set and to get everybody in order pre snap
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: and make sure that everything gets picked up. And the
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: one on the goal line, they catch them right, so
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: he does a little hut hut right and they all
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: like show it and then he's like, oh wait a second,
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: here they're coming. So now we got to make adjustments.
- 1:38:44Speaker 1: And you see him alert alert. You know this is
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: the mic. You go and it's still unblocked, so you know,
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: where's the where's the disconnected? Yeah, it's Matt in Ohio
- 1:38:55Speaker 1: writes in Hello, mister Jake Steel and the Boys the
- 1:38:58Speaker 1: most hated filling for Tony. Ask mister Paul Perilla what
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: I loved angry Paul yesterday and listening to him treat
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: these Boston fans that the idiots they are. Were you
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: hard in the fans yesterday? Paul? We had three different
- 1:39:09Speaker 1: guys that legitimately called in and I think they were joking,
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: but they didn't let on they were joking that said
- 1:39:15Speaker 1: it was a jinx. It's a Tom Brady jinks it's
- 1:39:17Speaker 1: been a jinx because we wear red uniforms like the
- 1:39:19Speaker 1: British like. And these were legit calls that Tim mccon,
- 1:39:23Speaker 1: let go. He got to the point where me and
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: the producer were on Tim McCone to let him go
- 1:39:27Speaker 1: on too long? It was tough. And then there was
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: the ten and five guy, the guy called into the
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: Patriot should be ten and five? Okay? One anyway, please
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: put me out of my misery and end this awful season.
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: All these garbage teams other than the top ten teams
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: need to stop playing the rest of the year. This
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: year has been ridiculous for terrible football play and coaching.
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: After watching these coaches continue to lose games for their teams,
- 1:39:50Speaker 1: I can't get on board with firing Bill and starting over.
- 1:39:53Speaker 1: Bill is stubborn, but I feel he's a smart coach
- 1:39:56Speaker 1: and will make the changes he needs for next season. Also,
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: please eat John O. Smith's deadcap money and move on.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: So let's play a game. You just tell me yes. No,
- 1:40:07Speaker 1: You don't have to think about it, you don't have
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: to qualify it. Yes, No, can win the Super Bowl? Oh,
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: the game was a foot Thanks back, Buffalo. Can they
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: win the Super bowl sre? Yes? Buffalo, Kansas City yes,
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: Cincinnati yes, yes, Baltimore no No, Los Angeles Chargers No,
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: Tennessee Titans Jacksonville Jaguars yes, yes, Patriots no, Dolphins, Jets. Okay,
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: so that's it. So yeah, I mentioned San Francisco. That's
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: the other conference I haven't started. So we had definitive
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: yes for three teams and one person said yes with
- 1:40:49Speaker 1: the Jacksonville Jaguars, Fred Jason, Okay, so we'll call that
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: a three and a half and the NFC Philadelphia yes,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: Dallas yes, wow, Um, San Francisco yes, yeah, Minnesota yes,
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: I know if we're not if we're not going to
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: be intellectually honest, um, they're they're ten and o one
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: and they were eleven and on one score, which is
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: not a good indication. Okay, but they have moxie yeah, okay,
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: they have Giants no no, um, Commanders, no Packers, No Bucks,
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: I say Packers, yes, Bucks, not the way, No that offense,
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: no way they got it this year. Yah. Packers. Yes.
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: I think that's insane. I think that's I's not equally
- 1:41:40Speaker 1: as insane as your Jags. Not nowhere. They have Aaron
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: Rodgers yeah, and they could be coming on at right now.
- 1:41:46Speaker 1: He doesn't care a lick and he's never been good
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: in the play. Yeah. When he made that throw to
- 1:41:50Speaker 1: Mercedes Lewis off his back foot with the three dudes
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: in his face, it looked like he didn't care. Wow,
- 1:41:56Speaker 1: just like all you have to do is make one
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: thrown in an NFL game, and Nevin just wants to
- 1:41:59Speaker 1: marry Aaron Rodgers. I'd married. Yeah. I think you're making
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: the point that there's only a handful of teams that
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: can even compete for Yeah, I would have I would
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: have it at five. Yeah. Well, you think the league stinks,
- 1:42:11Speaker 1: you always have? No, I haven't always you and Andy.
- 1:42:13Speaker 1: I did not think the league stuck in two thousand
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: and three and four two years when they were playing No,
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: I'm saying like in the Heart of the Dynasty, when
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: the Patriots were playing like back to back MVPs in
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: the playoffs, I did not think the Titans stunk when
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: they were when they were beating the Titans in the
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: playoffs and oh three, I didn't think the Colts stunk
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: when they were beating the Colts in the playoffs in
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: OH three and Old four. In sixteen when they played Broncos,
- 1:42:36Speaker 1: Widler and the Texans, Yeah, I thought they stunk even
- 1:42:38Speaker 1: though they were a playoff team. I didn't think they
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: were any good tim Tebow and the Broncos double by.
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: That's when I coined that for Yeah, those teams double by, right,
- 1:42:46Speaker 1: So I didn't all. I don't always think the league stinks.
- 1:42:49Speaker 1: Sometimes it does. This is one of those. Yeah, this
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: is a down season. So you just got Philly in
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: the NFC in San Francisco. Dallas can't win the Super Bowl?
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: Why because they're not good enough? And then I well
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: coached enough. Wow. The reason why I said yes to
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: the Packers was because I just feel like that's gonna
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: that's gonna hot me. Dallas is gonna win the Super Bowl.
- 1:43:10Speaker 1: They could very well be an eighteen Patriots thing where
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: they just get hot at the end of the year
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: and Roger Packers plays out of his mind. Yeah, I know,
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: I know why said. And their defense is actually pretty solid.
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: It was supposed to be, but it hasn't really looked
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: very good. It's been better as of late. I mean,
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: they obviously did what they did to two in Miami,
- 1:43:27Speaker 1: and I just liked the I like the first half
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: of it. I like the players that they have on defense. Gary, Yeah,
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: I love I love that Gary. Uh. I just I
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: just this quarterback for San Francisco. You know can they Yeah,
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: that's a that's a concern. Um. Remember we're talking about impossible.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Then I guess you can have a one. Uh, you
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: can score one. Um. Kennon Poughkeepsie says six one is possible,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: but it never happened. Team scores a touchdown, goes for
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: the two point conversion, offense somehow backtracks ninety eight yards
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: and takes a safety in their own end zone on
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: the two point conversion, resulting in one point for the defense. Yeah.
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: I have heard that that that's remember the other day
- 1:44:16Speaker 1: when I was when you said that, and I should
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: I think there's some kind of obscure thing that never happened. Yeah,
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: that's I think someone had written in about that. I
- 1:44:23Speaker 1: think it's a safety on a pat as opposed to
- 1:44:27Speaker 1: the defense returning a pat is two points. Yeah, but
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: I don't really know why the difference in the scoring.
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: A couple of interesting things here, just to point out
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: Philip Perry. We've we talked about it though, Phil Perry
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: saying here on Sports Hub realistic job Mayo could be
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: gone next season. That's following a report as well from
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: h Andrew Callahan who said something similar. So some Jim
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: McBride asked Mayo directly top of the top of the
- 1:44:54Speaker 1: question and an answer session today, you know, would you
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: still be interested you interview with the Broncos last year
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: and said, yeah, he thinks he's he's ready to be
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: a head coach in the NFL. So I think the
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: underlying factor there with the Phil Perry stuff because I think,
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: you know, Tom Cummeron immediately when Hackett got fired yesterday
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: immediately said you know, yes, But to me, the way
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: that Phil Perry talked about this, he's looking to spread
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: his wings. I believe that Gerardmeyer will be a coach
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: somewhere in the NFL next year, not in New England,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: and it might not be a head coach. I think
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: he's out of here. I think he's out of here
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: because he knows there's no upward movement here. Correct right,
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: because I actually think, you know, we've bashed the offense,
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: and rightfully so, but defensively, and I know people are
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: going to push back on the first half and whatever.
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: But as poorly coached as they are offensively, they are
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: very well coached for the most I don't think. I
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: don't think they're very good and we're not going to
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: argue about this because I think we kind of think
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: the same thing. Yeah, I don't think they're very good defensively,
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: but I do agree with Evan that they get absolutely
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: everything out of the out what they have defensively. That's
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: a sign of good coaching. I got. I gotta hand
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: it to them. They that's a sign of good coach.
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: You're getting the most out of what they have. And
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: they spin the dial, They run everything in the book.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: They they do pretty much everything that you possibly can.
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: They're running five eight corners out there against six foot
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: four receivers and I know he beat Marcus Jones twice
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: for big plays down the field, but it could have
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: been five times and it wasn't, you know, because they're
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: running different coverages to get the ball away from te
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: Higgins in those one on one matchups, the pressure schemes
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: like they time up that zero blitz at the absolute
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: perfect time and get the pick six. Yeah, it's just
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: they are a very very well orchestrated defense. I agree
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: with you. I guess where I'm at though, is just
- 1:46:42Speaker 1: trying to I don't think that there was good at
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: San Francisco's defense. I just wonder what's an acceptable like
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: like it's really hard to play defense in the league
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: right now, and so like that's why that's that are
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: truly good. It's like, with a competent offense, I feel
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: like this defense it would be good enough. I don't
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: think they were very vetty, very many defenses that are
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: capable of shutting down good offenses. This was a good offense.
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: And they fifteen ned points, right if you count the
- 1:47:09Speaker 1: pick six in their favor, three takeaways from a top
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: five defense, what they gave up twenty two they scored
- 1:47:19Speaker 1: seven of their own. Oh okay, so that's how we
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: so were subtracting seven they allowed because they scored seven.
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: I'm not gonna give the seven to the offense. I'm
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: gonna give it. I'm not giving it to the offense.
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: But I mean scored twenty two legitimate points, right, and
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: they missed a field In other words, like six of
- 1:47:35Speaker 1: the points weren't from the defense. No, no, no, yeah,
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: that's how we made it sound like they only really
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: allowed fifty Patriots. They didn't. They allowed twenty two. Patriots
- 1:47:44Speaker 1: should have allowed thirty. The Patriots only scored twelve points
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: on offense. Right, that's that's fair, right, because the Patriots
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: defense scored the other six exactly. But I'll say this,
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: but having said that, I think giving up twenty two
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: points against the Bengals is good. I give them. I
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: give them credit for finding a way to keep them
- 1:48:03Speaker 1: in a game. They absolutely found a way while everything
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: was like Rome was burning all around them, and they
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: found a way to pitch a shut out in side.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: Now I'm dead serious. I give them all the credit
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: in the world for that, and they deserve it. But
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: teen points. But let's well, let's not like say that
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: they didn't allow points that they allowed like they allowed.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: They allowed twenty two points, but they did nothing. They
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: did nothing to keep five other points. I just want
- 1:48:26Speaker 1: to understand Evans reasoning. He's take cordered, what do you
- 1:48:30Speaker 1: mean my reasoning. My reasoning is is that they gave
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: up twenty two points. Yeah, they scored seven of their
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: own defensively on Marcus Jones's pick six six. So when
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: it comes to net differential, there you go, oh, okay,
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: but they gave up twenty two points. Yeah, of course
- 1:48:44Speaker 1: they gave up twenty two points, because which is still
- 1:48:46Speaker 1: good too. Yeah, it's okay. They gave up four hundred
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: plush yards. I have a team missed a field goal
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: and two extra points like it was okay, yeah, like
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: they competed. I give them. Like I said, I there's
- 1:48:59Speaker 1: certainly not the reason while you lost. The offense is
- 1:49:01Speaker 1: the reason why you lose every week, right, not the defense.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: I would I would agree with that, but I just
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: don't want to get carried away like what Mike said,
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: with what San Francisco does, right and just pound you
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: into submission. Yeah, okay, you know, like there's a difference
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: between the other team is like converting fifty percent of
- 1:49:19Speaker 1: their third downs and moving the ball up and down
- 1:49:21Speaker 1: the field. That will you know, And if the Patriots offense,
- 1:49:25Speaker 1: like ever, had a miscommunication like happened on the two picks,
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: it would be all over the Mac and Patricia. It
- 1:49:31Speaker 1: wouldn't be because they dialed up a zero blitz. Jamar
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Chase kept running, Joe Burrow read the hot route and
- 1:49:37Speaker 1: threw it right to Marcus Jones because that's where Jamar
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: Chase is supposed to be. Right. It's a good play
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: by the defense, and with a really good play comes
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: is Marcus Jones is electric and runs it back sixty
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: nine yards. So instead of you just getting the ball,
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: you score because he's electric with the ball in his hands. Absolutely,
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: Malcus Jones didn't quit in that game. I'll tell you that.
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: I think a lot of other guys should be looking
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: in the mirror. He's not one. By the way, the yes,
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: full disclosure, Jones, I have a crush on Marcus Jones.
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: That's fine, full disclosure because Marcus Jones since the Bills
- 1:50:07Speaker 1: game been the best player on the team. And by
- 1:50:09Speaker 1: the way, the broadcast was wrong saying that the last
- 1:50:12Speaker 1: player to score in all three phases was Edelman. That
- 1:50:15Speaker 1: never happened. He never scored on defense. I said that
- 1:50:17Speaker 1: to you in the press box live. I said, do
- 1:50:19Speaker 1: you ever remember Edelman scoring a defensive touchdown? Never did,
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: We didn't. The last time it happened was nineteen forty six,
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: and it happened three times in that day. But I'm
- 1:50:28Speaker 1: not even talking about the same season. I don't ever
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: remember Edelman scoring good defensive down. And it turns out
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: that he didn't. He never did a couple of specialties,
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: so they were wrong. So he had a fumble return
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: for a touchdown, yeah, in in twelve, but it was
- 1:50:39Speaker 1: on specialty. So what Marcus fumble game? What Marcus Jones
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: did this year hasn't been done in the NFL's world
- 1:50:45Speaker 1: since pro football, No, since the forties, I owe in
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: one season, yeah, and once Seaon did it throughout his career.
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, yeah, No, he's been the best player on
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: the team. Yeah. I'd say Marcus Jones one. That's worth
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: looking up John that you just said that in his career. No,
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: in in a season. I want to think he might
- 1:51:03Speaker 1: have done it in a season, like I could see
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: him scoring a defense with touchdown every year he played.
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: Oh yeah, you know and special teams yeah yeah, yeah.
- 1:51:11Speaker 1: Marcus Jones one, Joshing two. Those have been the two
- 1:51:13Speaker 1: best players for the Patriots over the last month. Again,
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: he's awesome on offense, totally on defense, awesome returner. You know,
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: how much can we get him on the field. It's
- 1:51:24Speaker 1: unfortunate that I think all his workload is I think
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: starting to have an effect on the return because they
- 1:51:29Speaker 1: need the returns and he hasn't really shaken loose lately.
- 1:51:32Speaker 1: I think Evans flirted with this. I think get him
- 1:51:35Speaker 1: in the slot over Miles Bryant next year, um, where
- 1:51:38Speaker 1: I think he can take a little bit more advantage
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: of him. Yeah, um My thought on Uche though, is
- 1:51:41Speaker 1: that it's great. I think next year you just need
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: Ronnie Perkins to kind of step up and then you
- 1:51:45Speaker 1: can let Ucha walk and you'll have Ronnie Perkins in
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: that third down. Well what if we bring back camera groan.
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: I think with with Marcus too, that there's a lot
- 1:51:54Speaker 1: of conversation about is he a better offensive player than
- 1:51:58Speaker 1: you know, where's his ceiling? I think he's good either way,
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: Like I think he is honestly great either way. I mean,
- 1:52:04Speaker 1: of course he gainst Moss by t Higgins, who's eight
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: inches taller than him. It's just a bad matchup. So
- 1:52:10Speaker 1: this week though against Miami, like this is they have
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: John Jones and Marcus Jones that can cover hill and
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: waddle like I don't think any other team has two
- 1:52:19Speaker 1: four three guys that can cover and stick with those
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: two guys consistently. So I'm really hyped up to watch
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: how they match up against those two guys because that's
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: a great matchup. I just hope they keep playing Marcus
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: Jones on offense and going forward to which he's going
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: to have to play and like you said, get him
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: back in the slot. That's offense. Benn and Brooklyn. He
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: ain't going to get the ball like tool was like
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: earlier in the year. He'll do what too has been
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: doing lately. Benn and Brooklyn went to the game and
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: came away with several observations, but chief among them is
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: that losing in that fashion was the best possible outcome
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: this one. This team was never going anywhere, even if
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: they should squeak into the playoffs. Two they showed fight.
- 1:52:59Speaker 1: Three they entered the fact that they hit on the
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: Marcus Jones pick. Four, the offensive line actually played relatively well.
- 1:53:06Speaker 1: Five No sense worsening our draft pick with a win.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: Six lack of speed and getting the play in hugely
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: benefits the opposing d time to react, catch their breath substitution,
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: if not outright delay of the game. The first and
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: second half disparity was revealing one hundred percent conservative predictable
- 1:53:23Speaker 1: in the first half run on first and second, pass
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: on third, but to clearly open up more in the
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: second jet sweet long passes, use of Marcus Jones tremendous rally,
- 1:53:32Speaker 1: but came up short. Microcos him of the season, You guys,
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: Paul absolutely nailed the prediction that Burrow would exploit our
- 1:53:39Speaker 1: cornerback's lack of height. And I commend John Rook for
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: being really early one and a half years ago on
- 1:53:44Speaker 1: McDaniel's impending departure and its impact. Okay, okay, I'm not
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: a big fan of like, it's good that they lost
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: and all that stuff. Now, if they had actually won
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: these last two games like they should have, Oh, they'd
- 1:54:01Speaker 1: be sitting pretty. They would maybe in. Yeah, they'd be in.
- 1:54:06Speaker 1: They'd be sitting pretty. It's crazy now, I think we're
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: all kind of just expecting this is Patriots formula. We
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: got a back up quarterback. What does it say though
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: about this team if they can't beat Teddy Bridgewater here
- 1:54:16Speaker 1: in a game. I don't understand that Teddy's just as good.
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: This is not a good like this is not They've
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: never beaten Tuah. Yeah, they've never been Even when Tua
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: was not good, they couldn't beat Tuah. So I don't
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: know why he's four and oh against them. And the
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: games haven't really been competitive except that one game. I
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: think when Damon Harris fumbled, right, kind of similar situation
- 1:54:38Speaker 1: is as the Ramondre fumble. Yeah, but in all in all,
- 1:54:42Speaker 1: they've gotten blown out. Well, I was looking too back
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: at him. I mean, they would fell in a seventeen
- 1:54:46Speaker 1: nothing hole in week one here. They fell into a
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: seventeen nothing hole at the end of last year as well.
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: So yeah, it's it's just an interesting dynamic. I mean,
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: I think everybody's just kind of like, oh, we got
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: it now. But I also think that it's kind of
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: an indictment. If you can't beat Teddy Bridgewater with you know,
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: really playoffs kind of on the lives, it's going to
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: need him. Matt and Santan Valley, Arizona. Santan Valley just
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: wanted to make a take a minute to scrunch up
- 1:55:14Speaker 1: my nerd glasses and correct the caller Dwayne from Thursday
- 1:55:19Speaker 1: when the Patriots drafted mac Bill wasn't asking Matt Patricia
- 1:55:22Speaker 1: if he was good with the pick. He was asking Matt.
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: Grow just wanted to throw it out there since it
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: was bugging me all weekend. Oh yeah, that's probably right,
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: makes sense. Yeah, like Macro really had to say, I
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: just think it's crazy when we have to ride the
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: press elevator down with Macro and Macro has to sit
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: in there and there's not usually too much chatting going on.
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: But it's just an awkward situation where somebody who put
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: the team together us to ride down with a bunch
- 1:55:47Speaker 1: of us snarky a holes who are like whoa do?
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: I mean? That's why I try to keep it button.
- 1:55:53Speaker 1: But it's just a weird situation. Yeah, um, let's see names. Pettigrew,
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: the most interesting Patriots fan of the world, says, excuse me,
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: the British were to blame for the red uniforms and
- 1:56:06Speaker 1: the losses. Yes, the British who he happens to be British? Yeah, whetish?
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: That coming. Um, a couple more minutes here, so I'll
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: take a couple of Well, let's take a phone call. Uh.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: Craig from Richmond, California has been holding on. What's up, Craig? Hey,
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: how you doing, guys? Time first time? Thanks for calling. Hey,
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: So you guys talked a little bit earlier about the
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: Joe judge and so I'm curious. I'm a little bit
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: more curious about the blame pie. Um, so like, do
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: we know exactly what he was doing when he's with
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: the giants around the offense? And I can take my
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: I could take I could take well. Originally he had
- 1:56:55Speaker 1: a coordinator which was Jason Garrett, and he fired him
- 1:56:58Speaker 1: and took over basically the offense. Right, Well, am I
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: getting that right? Freddy Kitchens took over the Freddy Kitchen
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: who was with Cleveland, who was also an actual But
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: I thought I thought that Joe Judge was calling plays
- 1:57:08Speaker 1: for a while. I know that Freddy Kitchens was calling plays.
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: I think Judge had a pretty good hand in what
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: they were doing. Okay conceptually, but okay, yeah it was
- 1:57:16Speaker 1: Freddy Kitchens. It was Garrett and Kitchens. But yeah, okay, yeah,
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: So does that answer your question? Did you want to
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: build off of that? I guess I just I want
- 1:57:28Speaker 1: to Yeah, I guess it does. I just want to know.
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: I just was curious about how much of the blame
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: we give to Joe Judge. I know, with Matt Patricia
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: calling all the plays, we get to see him on
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: TV and all that. But yeah, I mean, you know
- 1:57:43Speaker 1: a lot of times and thanks for the call, Craig.
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: Like after the play, Mack will sit down and he'll
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: sit be, He'll be sitting next to Judge. Judge will
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: have the tablet, right because Patricia has to be with
- 1:57:52Speaker 1: the offensive line, right, double duty? Right? What does he ignore? More?
- 1:57:57Speaker 1: But then like on a time out when he comes
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: to the sideline, he's talking to Patricia. Occasionally Judge will
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: come over and the three of them will talk, and
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: sometimes even Bill as well. But it's weird, like who
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: does he talk to when you know, like you would
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: think that he would talk to the guy call him
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: the place after each series as well, But like everyone said,
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: he's he's got other things. You know, it's just not
- 1:58:20Speaker 1: a good setup. Yeah, it's not a good setup. I
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: agree it's got a change. Um. Like I said earlier
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: in the show, I just hope that it's a change
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: that Bill thinks needs to be made. Right. You want
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: it to be his decision so that he's on board. Yeah,
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: you know, um, but I don't know. It's it's gonna
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: be interesting. Are you excited about the offseason, Duce, because
- 1:58:44Speaker 1: I know you get excited about these things. I'm excited.
- 1:58:46Speaker 1: I can't work right, A lot of work to be done. Success.
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: I want to be excited with you, and I'm sure
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: I'll get there at some point. But I think it
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: comes back to do they see the issues right? Like
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: do they see the albums? Because somebody asked me in
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: the mail bag this week, what's like your five step
- 1:59:04Speaker 1: plan and it to me it's so obvious, like what
- 1:59:07Speaker 1: like especially the boxes that absolutely need to be checked.
- 1:59:11Speaker 1: But I just don't know if they think it's as
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: obvious and that until I hear Adam Schefter report the
- 1:59:18Speaker 1: Patriots of hire Bill O'Brien as their offensive coordinator. None
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: of it else, who they draft and who they signed,
- 1:59:24Speaker 1: They none of it else, None of it matters. All right,
