- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you.
- 0:02Speaker 2: Always. Hello, everyone.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance, your
- 0:24Speaker 1: home on the Geek Ultimate Alliance podcast network for any
- 0:27Speaker 1: and all things Star Wars. I'm your host, like always,
- 0:30Speaker 1: and with me, like always, is Clay. Clay, how are
- 0:32Speaker 1: you doing today?
- 0:34Speaker 3: Today, I'm doing pretty good, not gonna lie.
- 0:37Speaker 4: Of course, as you can see in the title, we
- 0:42Speaker 4: had to read Dark Legend and also a little bit
- 0:47Speaker 4: of Insider. We're doing another recording right after this, doing
- 0:51Speaker 4: our Patreon stuff. And I got to finish both of
- 0:56Speaker 4: those literally today. Like, we.
- 0:59Speaker 4: We had to get out of the house due to
- 1:01Speaker 4: some stuff that was going on in the house. And
- 1:03Speaker 4: so I was like, oh, okay, that's going to ruin
- 1:05Speaker 4: all of my plans to sit down and read. And
- 1:08Speaker 4: then Abby was like, you know what? We'll go to
- 1:11Speaker 4: your grandparents' house. Amberlynn can play. You go into one
- 1:16Speaker 4: of their dark rooms and just sit down and read.
- 1:18Speaker 4: I was like, cool.
- 1:21Speaker 3: And so I got to sit down for like three
- 1:22Speaker 3: hours and read. So we're going to.
- 1:26Speaker 4: Be talking about that for sure. But, yeah, other than that,
- 1:33Speaker 4: it's been a pretty good week.
- 1:35Speaker 3: I will say this.
- 1:37Speaker 4: If I am slurring my words, it's not because I
- 1:41Speaker 4: have been drinking. It is because I am dog tired, guys.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I have found the addiction of online gaming again. And
- 1:52Speaker 4: it's not good, Kate. It's not good. So I saw
- 1:57Speaker 4: a video the other day. that encompasses my life perfectly
- 2:01Speaker 4: right now. It's like this, it's this dude, he is
- 2:05Speaker 4: like knitting and it's like somber, peaceful music. And the
- 2:10Speaker 4: caption says, I'm trying to work on my sleep schedule,
- 2:14Speaker 4: but there's just something so peaceful about 11 PM through
- 2:17Speaker 4: 4 AM. And like, I don't know if you've hit
- 2:24Speaker 4: that stage. I don't think you have time to, to
- 2:26Speaker 4: be completely honest, but like, With a child, especially with
- 2:30Speaker 4: new parents, they've done studies about how there's this revenge
- 2:36Speaker 4: sleep thing where you try to get some of that
- 2:39Speaker 4: time back that you've had to deal with work and,
- 2:44Speaker 4: of course, family time.
- 2:45Speaker 3: And you're like, okay, but what about me time?
- 2:47Speaker 4: I think I have found that time, but it's unfortunately
- 2:51Speaker 4: with online gaming.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Remember how hard we worked to get you on a
- 2:55Speaker 1: sleep schedule?
- 2:56Speaker 2: Yeah. I know.
- 3:00Speaker 4: I have regressed three years. Uh, genuinely it's so bad. Uh,
- 3:06Speaker 4: but yeah, I, I, I feel okay, but I can
- 3:10Speaker 4: feel it behind my eyes.
- 3:12Speaker 3: That it's just like, no, really go to sleep. So, uh, I, I,
- 3:21Speaker 3: I need, I need help.
- 3:23Speaker 4: Somebody help me.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Um, Do I need to come over and unplug your
- 3:28Speaker 1: Ethernet cable, your Wi-Fi? Run over it with a lawnmower.
- 3:33Speaker 4: I genuinely feel like, because there was even a time, again,
- 3:36Speaker 4: right when you were deciding to kind of get away
- 3:41Speaker 4: with social media, I was kind of doing the same thing.
- 3:44Speaker 4: And we were both kind of like, okay, we're having
- 3:47Speaker 4: a little bit more family time. We're having a good
- 3:49Speaker 4: sleep schedule. We're not so much on Twitter and everything else.
- 3:54Speaker 4: I just need to go back to that. That's what
- 3:56Speaker 4: I need to do. Definitely need to go back to that.
- 3:59Speaker 1: It's good for you people.
- 4:01Speaker 2: Yes.
- 4:02Speaker 1: So we have some fun things to talk about today.
- 4:05Speaker 1: We have Eva Mendez. We have Starfighter Budget. We have
- 4:10Speaker 1: some more video game conversations. And we are doing our
- 4:15Speaker 1: Halloween episode where, like Clay said, we are talking about
- 4:18Speaker 1: George Mann's Dark Legends.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I am so jealous of you having that.
- 4:26Speaker 1: I will say like my biggest critique right now, that's
- 4:30Speaker 1: like not a spoiler and you can't really see it,
- 4:33Speaker 1: but the pages are like torn at the edge to
- 4:37Speaker 1: give it like that manuscript.
- 4:39Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 4:40Speaker 4: Yeah. So, so that was something that I will reiterate
- 4:45Speaker 4: again when it comes to our actual review of the book,
- 4:52Speaker 4: but it's essentially like, a goosebumps book in the star
- 4:58Speaker 4: Wars universe. Like if you, if you've ever read the
- 5:01Speaker 4: old goosebumps books, they're kind of like have that like
- 5:04Speaker 4: stereotypical horror in them.
- 5:08Speaker 3: Like that's what it is.
- 5:09Speaker 4: And we'll elaborate a little bit more, but let's go
- 5:11Speaker 4: ahead and talk about some of the news first. Um,
- 5:14Speaker 4: I want to go ahead and real quick, I want
- 5:16Speaker 4: to talk about the video game stuff first. I think
- 5:18Speaker 4: that is, uh, kind of small and in between, um,
- 5:23Speaker 4: Of course, we've had two really big releases with Zero
- 5:28Speaker 4: Company and Galactic Racer.
- 5:30Speaker 3: It's been really, really doing well.
- 5:33Speaker 4: Everybody's super hyped about the now in development Battlefront 3.
- 5:41Speaker 4: And of course, all of that hype has decided to
- 5:44Speaker 4: go crashing down.
- 5:47Speaker 3: And I know Katie can't say much about this subject.
- 5:50Speaker 1: But crashing down.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Due to rumors, yes, but suggestion is a really big thing.
- 6:00Speaker 4: There is a really good article that I really do
- 6:05Speaker 4: highly recommend everybody go and read. It is on Vertical Slice,
- 6:11Speaker 4: an article written by Chris Kerr. The article is titled,
- 6:18Speaker 4: I Don't Want to Work at This Place Anymore, EA
- 6:20Speaker 4: Worker's mismanagement, and corporate greed after mass layoffs. A lot
- 6:28Speaker 4: of stuff is going on in EA. EA is partially
- 6:33Speaker 4: owned by, of course, Paramount and all of that mess
- 6:39Speaker 4: over there and the money and how it kind of
- 6:43Speaker 4: separates things.
- 6:44Speaker 3: It's a big mess.
- 6:46Speaker 1: And if you're on the screen here, guys, welcome.
- 6:49Speaker 3: We've got.
- 6:50Speaker 1: several people, it looks like.
- 6:52Speaker 3: Yes. Hi, Tegan. Hello, Tegan.
- 6:56Speaker 4: EA is heavily pushing generative AI in the development of
- 7:03Speaker 4: their games, which likely means their future Star Wars games
- 7:07Speaker 4: as well. This, of course, is a huge bummer of
- 7:16Speaker 4: news considering how much success They received and how much
- 7:22Speaker 4: critical acclaim they have received. And I say they, I
- 7:27Speaker 4: mean like the Star Wars genre of gaming.
- 7:32Speaker 1: And I.
- 7:34Speaker 4: Like freaking Zero Company. You know, it had kind of
- 7:42Speaker 4: everything stacked against it. The layoffs happened before they even
- 7:46Speaker 4: launched and all this other stuff.
- 7:48Speaker 3: But it was still a great game that they made.
- 7:51Speaker 4: They had a huge success and they're able to kind
- 7:54Speaker 4: of build things back up again.
- 7:57Speaker 3: I don't know if.
- 8:02Speaker 4: That kind of quote-unquote recovery will happen with EA knowing
- 8:10Speaker 4: that they have willingly quote-unquote the company, not necessarily the
- 8:16Speaker 4: actual creators, willingly put ai into these games and like
- 8:24Speaker 4: that is again just like a huge bummer for me
- 8:27Speaker 4: to hear uh but katie like do you have any
- 8:31Speaker 4: opinion about the idea of ea heavily pushing generative.
- 8:39Speaker 1: Ai in creative generative ai sucks generative ai is not
- 8:49Speaker 1: going anywhere the biggest push we can make guys right
- 8:53Speaker 1: now is to push for it to not be in
- 8:57Speaker 1: creative spaces so whether that means that ea does it
- 9:01Speaker 1: on the back end and then all of the graphics
- 9:03Speaker 1: and front end development is done uh by hand like
- 9:10Speaker 1: that would be my preference because unfortunately it is the
- 9:14Speaker 1: reality right now like It's not going anywhere for a
- 9:18Speaker 1: good five years at least. And especially with Anthropic going public,
- 9:26Speaker 1: like all of this stuff, like it's just going to
- 9:28Speaker 1: keep spinning. So the hope would be that people are
- 9:33Speaker 1: still coming in and doing the graphics by hand. But
- 9:36Speaker 1: I hate it. But it is what it is.
- 9:42Speaker 4: So I don't know how much truth there is to it,
- 9:45Speaker 4: but I believe it was either yesterday or over the weekend.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I was randomly scrolling and people were saying that the
- 9:53Speaker 4: AI bubble in China was bursting.
- 9:55Speaker 1: Oh, interesting.
- 9:58Speaker 3: This weekend.
- 9:59Speaker 4: And so I'm like... wait, does that mean that the
- 10:01Speaker 4: US AI bubble is going to be bursting anytime soon?
- 10:03Speaker 1: Oh, don't you mean super intelligence?
- 10:07Speaker 4: Don't even get me started.
- 10:08Speaker 3: We're not entirely sure how.
- 10:14Speaker 4: It'll correlate or even if what I was seeing on
- 10:17Speaker 4: the internet at that time was actually true.
- 10:19Speaker 3: I need to do a little bit more research on it.
- 10:27Speaker 3: But I will say this talk about creative spaces. We
- 10:30Speaker 3: hear podcasts. We're creatives over at geek verse.
- 10:34Speaker 4: I do want to give them a lot of props
- 10:37Speaker 4: for what they are going to be doing in exactly
- 10:41Speaker 4: two weeks. I do believe.
- 10:44Speaker 1: Oh, is it two weeks? I thought it was next week.
- 10:46Speaker 3: Oh, it is next week. The 7th. It is next
- 10:48Speaker 3: week on the 7th.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Okay, I was like, is it on my calendar wrong?
- 10:51Speaker 3: No, no, no. Sorry. My bad.
- 10:54Speaker 4: On the 7th, of course, they have their annual charity stream,
- 11:02Speaker 4: which I believe they name.
- 11:03Speaker 3: Oh, gosh.
- 11:06Speaker 4: What is it called?
- 11:07Speaker 1: Extra Life?
- 11:08Speaker 3: Extra.
- 11:09Speaker 4: Yeah, it's the Extra Life stream. Sorry.
- 11:11Speaker 2: Um.
- 11:12Speaker 4: And so if you guys want to watch that, it's
- 11:16Speaker 4: a 24 hour stream. They do amazing stuff over there.
- 11:20Speaker 4: And I've had the privilege of course, hosting trivia. I've played,
- 11:24Speaker 4: I've been a part of their trivia. Travis, I think, gosh,
- 11:29Speaker 4: it's been about four years now, maybe even five years now.
- 11:34Speaker 4: We once were, he challenged me at a, Oh gosh,
- 11:39Speaker 4: what is the game? I can't even remember the game.
- 11:41Speaker 3: It's been so long.
- 11:44Speaker 4: We had some beef. Travis and I, we've had a history.
- 11:49Speaker 3: We had a history.
- 11:50Speaker 4: We were going back and forth, and he's like, you
- 11:52Speaker 4: know what? Let's just have it out here on the stream.
- 11:56Speaker 4: That was a lot of fun. I haven't played that
- 12:00Speaker 4: game in years, probably since.
- 12:02Speaker 3: Rocket League. It was Rocket League.
- 12:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 12:05Speaker 3: Had a lot of fun doing that. But speaking of
- 12:08Speaker 3: cars racing... Star Wars. Taylor, talking to you now.
- 12:18Speaker 4: I finally beat tour three.
- 12:23Speaker 3: Finally.
- 12:24Speaker 1: I haven't had a chance to go back and play it.
- 12:26Speaker 3: I have finally beaten this game. And may I say, I.
- 12:35Speaker 4: Think I am pretty bad-ass.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 12:38Speaker 4: I have to toot my own horn again. I felt
- 12:40Speaker 4: like a pod racer. God playing tour three compared to
- 12:47Speaker 4: losing 17 different times on tour one to finally get
- 12:51Speaker 4: to tour three. Nobody can beat me. And I am
- 12:56Speaker 4: going to challenge Taylor now. Taylor, you, we, we, we
- 13:04Speaker 4: started off good. We started off good in the discord.
- 13:10Speaker 4: you know, giving me pointers and stuff. I like kind
- 13:13Speaker 4: of rubbed me the wrong way. I'm like, Hey, I
- 13:14Speaker 4: can do this myself, you know? But now that I've
- 13:18Speaker 4: actually beaten tour three and you know, I was over
- 13:21Speaker 4: here saying, Oh, starting tours one for the seventh time.
- 13:25Speaker 3: You're like, Oh, I've already beaten it. Okay. Good for you, man.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Good for you.
- 13:32Speaker 4: But now I want to put pedal to the metal.
- 13:37Speaker 4: And I want to challenge you, Taylor, to a Galactic
- 13:44Speaker 4: Racer pod race. And I'm going to say, see, I
- 13:50Speaker 4: was going to say, hey, let's do bikes. I need bikes.
- 13:57Speaker 3: No, no, no. I'm going to say, choose your best
- 14:02Speaker 3: pod racer. I don't even care which one you got, Taylor.
- 14:05Speaker 3: Let's do it.
- 14:06Speaker 4: I don't even care which one you got. Because I'm
- 14:08Speaker 4: still going to beat it. Doesn't matter what map. Doesn't
- 14:13Speaker 4: matter what ride. Doesn't matter what character. I got you.
- 14:20Speaker 4: And I will win. I got you this year. What
- 14:27Speaker 4: about me? Hey, Katie, if you.
- 14:28Speaker 3: Want to catch the smoke. If you want to catch
- 14:31Speaker 3: the smoke. I can do it.
- 14:34Speaker 1: I beat tour one and tour two before you did.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Damn.
- 14:39Speaker 4: Okay.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:41Speaker 4: All right.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Fatal three-way match between the three of us.
- 14:47Speaker 1: Let's do it.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Ball's in your court. You can accept or not. Charity
- 14:53Speaker 3: stream is one week away. I'll be there.
- 14:57Speaker 1: I'll be there.
- 14:58Speaker 4: Will you?
- 15:02Speaker 3: Come on, Taylor. You can do it. Let me know.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Let us know. Let us know.
- 15:09Speaker 1: And on that note, Forbes has reported the Starfighter budgets,
- 15:17Speaker 1: at least the production budgets. We're looking, Clay, we're looking
- 15:23Speaker 1: at $ 226. 5 million before tax credit.
- 15:30Speaker 3: This is before the tax credit, right?
- 15:32Speaker 1: Tax credit, just for everybody's reference, puts us at $ 175 million.
- 15:39Speaker 1: only slightly above the Mandalorian and Grogu, which costs grand
- 15:45Speaker 1: total $ 165 million. This number does not include post-production costs. Important.
- 15:53Speaker 4: So, it's more than Mandalorian and Grogu, less than Force Awakens.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Currently, yes. So currently, at the time of where this
- 16:16Speaker 1: budget was taken, the only Star Wars production to cost
- 16:21Speaker 1: more than Starfighter at this same point in time is
- 16:25Speaker 1: The Rise of Skywalker.
- 16:27Speaker 4: Is The Rise of Skywalker?
- 16:28Speaker 2: Mm-hmm. I.
- 16:32Speaker 3: Okay, so.
- 16:35Speaker 1: I am.
- 16:36Speaker 4: And I don't know if this is like a toxic
- 16:38Speaker 4: trait of mine. I don't even know if this take
- 16:40Speaker 4: is toxic, but I think that there's some ways that
- 16:43Speaker 4: it can be. I am the type of person that
- 16:47Speaker 4: always says, go big or go home. And I think
- 16:52Speaker 4: that we've said it plenty of times. They put Mandu
- 16:57Speaker 4: and Grogu on the big screen as a, hey, we
- 17:03Speaker 4: haven't been in theaters for a while. Let's have a
- 17:07Speaker 4: soft open for Starfighter. That's what our thought process has
- 17:14Speaker 4: always been. They are doing a soft open back to
- 17:18Speaker 4: theaters so that way the bigger opening can come up
- 17:22Speaker 4: right after.
- 17:24Speaker 3: And I think that's this.
- 17:26Speaker 1: And clearly we know nothing else is filming at this point.
- 17:29Speaker 3: Correct. I've seen some people say.
- 17:35Speaker 4: They saw this 226 budget and they were like, oh,
- 17:40Speaker 4: and this is why Disney will always fail at Star Wars.
- 17:44Speaker 3: What are you talking about?
- 17:51Speaker 4: And I feel like these people say such vague things
- 17:55Speaker 4: for both sides, for both sides of the argument, which
- 17:58Speaker 4: is even more stupid. Because what are you wanting? Are
- 18:02Speaker 4: you wanting them to go so low so that way
- 18:05Speaker 4: they make huge margins? Or are you wanting them to
- 18:10Speaker 4: go literally all out crazy and risk losing the money
- 18:16Speaker 4: to where we don't get any more Star Wars? Like,
- 18:21Speaker 4: you have to be reasonable in the idea of, okay,
- 18:26Speaker 4: and again, all we know is For this movie so far.
- 18:30Speaker 3: Because I don't even think.
- 18:31Speaker 4: I'm sure they have put out a general synopsis.
- 18:35Speaker 3: I haven't looked at it. Or at least I don't
- 18:37Speaker 3: remember us talking about it. Ryan Gosling.
- 18:42Speaker 4: Somewhat of a outlaw-ish type of character. Is going to
- 18:47Speaker 4: get into some sort of big mess. Lightsabers are involved.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And it's a Star Wars film. You need somewhat of
- 18:59Speaker 4: a bigger budget to portray the feeling of Star Wars.
- 19:07Speaker 4: Even the way that we've been saying that we want
- 19:09Speaker 4: genre within Star Wars, I would still want them to
- 19:13Speaker 4: have a budget and not try to make bukus of
- 19:17Speaker 4: money and then at the very end be like, oh, look,
- 19:19Speaker 4: there's the Death Star. You know?
- 19:22Speaker 1: Correct.
- 19:23Speaker 2: Yes.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Yes. And to put it in perspective, Doomsday is looking
- 19:28Speaker 1: at a $ 400 million production budget. So, not the worst.
- 19:34Speaker 1: By any means. Yeah, the synopsis is a very small...
- 19:46Speaker 1: Rogue Ryan Gosling's character is.
- 19:51Speaker 1: It has to go on an adventure basically um so
- 19:55Speaker 1: it's not a huge synopsis i mean we guys we
- 19:58Speaker 1: don't even have a trailer yet disney has got to
- 20:00Speaker 1: start marketing this.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Thing official trailer official.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Official trailer you're right official trailer um consider this a
- 20:08Speaker 1: bad budget, especially when we're looking at how much inflation
- 20:12Speaker 1: has risen between the sequel trilogy and now. I do
- 20:19Speaker 1: think that if you had hired more unknown actors to
- 20:26Speaker 1: do this, you would have been looking at a little
- 20:27Speaker 1: bit of a less cost. But you've got people like
- 20:30Speaker 1: Matt Smith, you've got Ryan Gosling, You have Eva Mendez, potentially,
- 20:36Speaker 1: which I know she hasn't acted in anything super recently.
- 20:39Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 1: But it's still a very popular name and everything. So
- 20:47Speaker 1: those are going to come with a cost. Also, Sean
- 20:49Speaker 1: Levy is super popular right now. So there's a lot
- 20:53Speaker 1: of popularity to try and catch people's attention to bring
- 20:57Speaker 1: them back to theaters, basically, at the end of the day. 100%.
- 21:01Speaker 4: 100%. And speaking of Mendez, I actually have it right here.
- 21:08Speaker 4: I couldn't find the original post, so I did find
- 21:12Speaker 4: an article over at comicbook.com written by Brian Walton. It
- 21:17Speaker 4: says here that Ryan Gosling's upcoming Star Wars movie is
- 21:20Speaker 4: turning into.
- 21:21Speaker 3: A family affair.
- 21:23Speaker 4: Eva Mendez is expected to join her real-life husband in
- 21:27Speaker 4: Star Wars Starfighter. director Sean Levy's upcoming adventure set five years,
- 21:32Speaker 4: of course, after The Rise of Skywalker, Mendez will be
- 21:35Speaker 4: reportedly playing the owner of an intergalactic cantina, making her
- 21:40Speaker 4: first live-action film appearance in over a decade. Her last
- 21:45Speaker 4: film was Lost River, released in 2014, which was written
- 21:50Speaker 4: and directed by Ryan Gosling himself. So, I do.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Believe That for millennials and up, so you got your millennials,
- 22:06Speaker 5: you got your Gen X, and you got your boomers.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Mendez is a name that we all know.
- 22:15Speaker 1: I actually had to go Google her because I didn't know.
- 22:20Speaker 2: All right.
- 22:21Speaker 4: You younger millennials and elder Gen Zers, you probably don't
- 22:26Speaker 4: know who... eva mendez is go watch hitch um that
- 22:35Speaker 4: that's that's the movie that i will always tell people
- 22:38Speaker 4: yeah okay with will smith um oh i have seen
- 22:42Speaker 4: that there you.
- 22:44Speaker 3: Go then you've seen two movies of.
- 22:46Speaker 1: Hers three because she's in two fast movies Oh, okay.
- 22:51Speaker 4: Okay.
- 22:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 22:54Speaker 4: But I do believe she is a name and face
- 22:59Speaker 4: that people will recognize. So I do hope that in
- 23:03Speaker 4: a future TV spot, I do hope they use her
- 23:07Speaker 4: as marketing material. Also, hey, Star Wars, Disney, do you
- 23:14Speaker 4: know what really successful TV show just ended that has...
- 23:20Speaker 4: a really popular actor that is in your movie that
- 23:25Speaker 4: has had zero coverage.
- 23:28Speaker 1: Please. Put the guy in the first trailer. I need
- 23:35Speaker 1: a character spot.
- 23:37Speaker 3: Yes, please.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Don't make him an alien. It's too late. If you've
- 23:41Speaker 1: already made him an alien.
- 23:42Speaker 3: I was going to say it's a little too late.
- 23:45Speaker 4: If he is an alien, he's so good. but genuinely
- 23:51Speaker 4: Eva Mendez, Aaron Pierre, like I, I need these people
- 23:57Speaker 4: in the marketing. Cause again, I do believe that like
- 24:06Speaker 4: hearing Eva Mendez, like not only did I remember like,
- 24:10Speaker 4: Oh yeah, she's married to Ryan Gosling, but like, I
- 24:13Speaker 4: remembered all the movies that I used to watch with
- 24:16Speaker 4: Eva Mendes. She was in the original Ghost Rider movie
- 24:18Speaker 4: with Nicolas Cage. She was, again, in Hitch. She's been
- 24:23Speaker 4: in two or three different Fast movies. It is a
- 24:28Speaker 4: recognizable name. I desperately need Disney to.
- 24:35Speaker 3: I understand.
- 24:37Speaker 4: As a 35-year-old that has now lived through two Trump administrations... Like,
- 24:44Speaker 4: the beautiful, like, oh, Disney's so good at this, this,
- 24:50Speaker 4: and this has kind of just been destroyed by capitalism. But, like,
- 24:55Speaker 4: go back to the way I used to remember you. Like, oh,
- 24:58Speaker 4: the marketing genius. Do you remember how many times we
- 25:01Speaker 4: used to say that when this first came? Like, when
- 25:04Speaker 4: we first started this podcast? Oh, yeah, the marketing genius
- 25:07Speaker 4: of Disney. They did this and this.
- 25:11Speaker 1: To be clear, I've never said that with Star Wars
- 25:13Speaker 1: back then.
- 25:15Speaker 4: With Star Wars marketing, but we have said it with Disney.
- 25:18Speaker 1: With Marvel in general, yes.
- 25:21Speaker 4: And we want that for Star Wars.
- 25:25Speaker 1: It's not that hard.
- 25:27Speaker 4: We know that you've gotten a little lazy because you say, hey,
- 25:30Speaker 4: we have a billion dollar company.
- 25:31Speaker 3: We don't really need to market everything.
- 25:35Speaker 4: Yes, you do.
- 25:37Speaker 3: Yes, you do.
- 25:39Speaker 4: This is one of them.
- 25:41Speaker 1: I am thinking that the first Starfighter trailer is going
- 25:44Speaker 1: to show up with Doomsday in theaters.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Ooh, okay. Well, because for one, let me.
- 25:53Speaker 1: Oh, and you know what? I just realized I'm having
- 25:55Speaker 1: surgery a week and a half before Doomsday comes out.
- 25:58Speaker 1: I'm not seeing Doomsday in theaters.
- 26:00Speaker 3: I don't think you are. I don't think you are. So, okay.
- 26:07Speaker 3: May 28th is the release date.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Yep.
- 26:14Speaker 4: January, February, March, April, May.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Five months.
- 26:20Speaker 1: December 18th?
- 26:23Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know. Trailers have been kind
- 26:27Speaker 3: of all over the place recently.
- 26:30Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 26:31Speaker 4: They need to do it soon, though. I think they do.
- 26:35Speaker 4: I think they do. I agree with you. I think
- 26:39Speaker 4: that it needs... don't even know what they i don't
- 26:43Speaker 4: think they have anything big after doomsday until starfighter yeah
- 26:49Speaker 4: so i think you need to be reminded at doomsday
- 26:54Speaker 4: i hope it is i i at that point i
- 26:57Speaker 4: hope it is because there's nothing in january january is
- 26:59Speaker 4: kind of like a very dead month for movie theaters
- 27:03Speaker 4: don't put it anywhere near january um yeah i would
- 27:08Speaker 4: say i would say it's attached to doomsday hopefully.
- 27:14Speaker 3: But yeah, Katie, I think that is it.
- 27:18Speaker 1: I do believe it is it.
- 27:21Speaker 3: That is it for our new segments.
- 27:26Speaker 4: And now we shall be talking about our main segment,
- 27:33Speaker 4: which is Star Wars Dark Legend.
- 27:38Speaker 3: Excuse me, Legends.
- 27:39Speaker 4: I got that wrong in the thumbnail.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 27:44Speaker 1: Also, apparently there was a Target exclusive edition which had
- 27:48Speaker 1: three additional stories. I definitely don't have that.
- 27:52Speaker 4: Really?
- 27:52Speaker 1: I hate when content is dedicated by where you can
- 27:56Speaker 1: go get the book. Yeah. So I have through a
- 28:01Speaker 1: life immortal in the Target exclusive edition has the sleep
- 28:05Speaker 1: of ages, Baku rot, and a bitter harvest.
- 28:10Speaker 3: Okay, so....
- 28:14Speaker 4: Looking at mine, a life of mortal is what I
- 28:21Speaker 4: have in my digital version. And then.
- 28:28Speaker 3: In the, let's.
- 28:34Speaker 4: See here. Oh, it only says track nine. They need
- 28:40Speaker 4: to actually write the actual titles and, Oh, did you
- 28:44Speaker 4: get the audiobook? I did get the audiobook as well.
- 28:48Speaker 4: So again, I mentioned that this feels like a Goosebumps
- 28:53Speaker 4: anthology type of book within the Star Wars universe. And
- 28:57Speaker 4: so I was like, ooh, because this is supposed to
- 29:00Speaker 4: be a spooky season story, I want to listen to
- 29:03Speaker 4: it as an audiobook.
- 29:05Speaker 1: I forgot it had an audiobook. I'll have to, I
- 29:07Speaker 1: think I have it too. I just forgot about it.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'll have to go.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Look at that. Now, here is where I am going
- 29:16Speaker 4: to go down on. I don't like this book. It's
- 29:24Speaker 4: just a Goosebumps book in the Star Wars universe.
- 29:30Speaker 1: And this is, I think, the third book in the
- 29:33Speaker 1: series that... Yeah, so Myth and Fables is the first one. one.
- 29:41Speaker 1: And that one was written strictly by George Mann. And
- 29:48Speaker 1: then The Life Day Treasury was written by George Mann
- 29:53Speaker 1: and Kevin Scott, which, guys, we are going to, to
- 29:57Speaker 1: hopefully be releasing a review episode on Life Day Treasury
- 30:02Speaker 1: out in December. So that is currently the plan. But
- 30:07Speaker 1: that was the last one in the look, in the series.
- 30:13Speaker 1: So not the first time that they did this, but
- 30:16Speaker 1: they wanted a kind of mythology-based story, creepiness factor here.
- 30:25Speaker 1: that they kind of also did with the stories of
- 30:31Speaker 1: Luke Skywalker was kind of also a Legends type thing
- 30:37Speaker 1: where basically they went through and were like, oh, these
- 30:41Speaker 1: different things happened. They never mentioned Luke Skywalker's name, but
- 30:45Speaker 1: they're kind of myths that surround happenings.
- 30:50Speaker 4: And so like.
- 30:54Speaker 2: The.
- 30:56Speaker 4: I enjoyed some of them. But my problem is, like,
- 31:13Speaker 4: reading these stories, it also kind of felt like it
- 31:20Speaker 4: could have been in any other fantasy book. There's only
- 31:29Speaker 4: one that I was like, ooh, that was a good one.
- 31:34Speaker 3: And it's... I have the story here.
- 31:37Speaker 4: I believe it is The Predecessor.
- 31:40Speaker 1: The Predecessor.
- 31:42Speaker 4: The Predecessor. If you actually go onto Wikipedia, they actually
- 31:46Speaker 4: have all of the stories. You can click each one.
- 31:52Speaker 3: The summary of this.
- 31:54Speaker 4: Story is essentially... There is a individual that is operating on,
- 32:01Speaker 4: I believe, the Death Star. Yep.
- 32:05Speaker 1: Or, no, the Star Destroyer X-Actor.
- 32:08Speaker 4: Okay, the X-Actor. He is looking for his superior in
- 32:13Speaker 4: the very beginning of the story. And he cannot find them.
- 32:17Speaker 4: But then he is promoted. Just all willy-nilly.
- 32:21Speaker 3: He's like, cool. He's like, I want to go talk.
- 32:25Speaker 3: to that one guy. Marsden. Lieutenant Marsden. I want to
- 32:30Speaker 3: go talk to Marsden. And he can't find him. He
- 32:34Speaker 3: can't find him. He can't find him. But then he
- 32:38Speaker 3: starts to see Marsden.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Hallucination.
- 32:42Speaker 4: He's starting to hallucinate Marsden. And then while he's sleeping,
- 32:46Speaker 4: he's hearing this gurgling, choking sound. And it starts to
- 32:53Speaker 4: insinuate which is really, really fun because this genuinely feels
- 32:59Speaker 4: like a star Wars horror, like story, especially one that
- 33:04Speaker 4: you like, I can imagine like in like the, the, the.
- 33:11Speaker 3: Mess hall, all these storm troopers, like.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Hey, did you, did you ever hear, did you ever
- 33:17Speaker 4: hear about the story about Lieutenant Marsden? And like this
- 33:22Speaker 4: being a ghost story, that the troopers tell people.
- 33:27Speaker 3: That is fun. That is cool.
- 33:31Speaker 4: Like I felt like, when I read this story and
- 33:37Speaker 4: then of course, the reason why it's so fun is
- 33:42Speaker 4: because it's an endless loop because at the very end,
- 33:46Speaker 4: he freaks out in front of Darth Vader and, In
- 33:54Speaker 4: front of his entire crew.
- 33:56Speaker 3: And Darth Vader. And Darth Vader kills him. With a
- 34:01Speaker 3: force choke.
- 34:03Speaker 2: And then.
- 34:04Speaker 3: This random person. Is promoted the very next day. Insinuating.
- 34:10Speaker 4: Oh this probably is going to happen to him too.
- 34:14Speaker 3: That was such a fun story.
- 34:18Speaker 1: It was.
- 34:19Speaker 4: I really really love that story. But when you read
- 34:25Speaker 4: the rest of them, and we can kind of pick
- 34:27Speaker 4: out some of our other favorites, they kind of all
- 34:30Speaker 4: felt like, oh, did you ever read that one story
- 34:34Speaker 4: in Goosebumps? Okay, now just slap Star Wars onto that,
- 34:39Speaker 4: and there you go.
- 34:40Speaker 1: So, to be fair, I've never actually read Goosebumps either.
- 34:43Speaker 1: I've never read a single Goosebumps.
- 34:46Speaker 3: Okay, okay.
- 34:47Speaker 1: So, I have no idea. I really enjoyed The Dark Mirror.
- 34:54Speaker 1: which is where the Jedi Padawan and his master, the
- 35:00Speaker 1: master dies. He receives this heirloom necklace from the master
- 35:06Speaker 1: that has a piece of kyber in it. And the
- 35:11Speaker 1: master was the pinnacle of what a Jedi is supposed
- 35:15Speaker 1: to be like very light filled, no anger, no love,
- 35:22Speaker 1: no passion, nothing. Well, it turns out that this guy
- 35:27Speaker 1: was getting all of his dark emotions absorbed into the kyber.
- 35:33Speaker 1: And then it basically got to a point where it
- 35:37Speaker 1: turned on him and it was taking over. And every
- 35:40Speaker 1: night he would go out and kill people. And the
- 35:45Speaker 1: Jedi Council had caught the master at one point. But
- 35:49Speaker 1: it wasn't like they actually caught him. It was, oh,
- 35:52Speaker 1: this assassin is killing people. Like, hey, can you go
- 35:54Speaker 1: find him? And the master supposedly killed him and then
- 35:59Speaker 1: went off to the next mission on another planet. Basically,
- 36:02Speaker 1: he was like, oh, crap. I just about got caught. Well,
- 36:05Speaker 1: the kyberg does the same thing to the Padawan, the apprentice.
- 36:11Speaker 2: And.
- 36:11Speaker 1: he has to follow down the path and he's ashamed
- 36:16Speaker 1: of what he did because he was supposed to be
- 36:17Speaker 1: this pinnacle and take on a Padawan and complete the
- 36:20Speaker 1: same thing over and over again. But instead he lets
- 36:23Speaker 1: the darkness consume him and falls farther and farther down.
- 36:29Speaker 1: I loved this one.
- 36:31Speaker 3: Wasn't this one... Didn't this one insinuate that he was
- 36:35Speaker 3: the one that killed the Master?
- 36:36Speaker 4: Like the.
- 36:41Speaker 1: I didn't think so.
- 36:42Speaker 3: Yes, so what ends up happening... Oh no, Katie, you're
- 36:47Speaker 3: speed reading too fast again.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I only got a chance to read the stories once.
- 36:54Speaker 4: So... I believe it's this one. Unless it's... There is...
- 37:06Speaker 4: Hold on, hold on. Because I am pretty sure it
- 37:12Speaker 4: is this.
- 37:18Speaker 3: So... Yeah, so....
- 37:22Speaker 4: Where is it?
- 37:23Speaker 3: It says here.
- 37:24Speaker 1: So he killed a Jedi knight that was supposed to
- 37:27Speaker 1: be helping him find the assassin. That was the reveal,
- 37:33Speaker 1: not the master.
- 37:34Speaker 4: It says Mogra found his robes torn and that fellow Jedi.
- 37:40Speaker 1: Uh, could just, and draw, but that's not the.
- 37:44Speaker 4: Master had been murdered by the killer, which the killer
- 37:50Speaker 4: ended up being him. Yeah.
- 37:52Speaker 1: So that's the reveal is that he killed this other
- 37:55Speaker 1: Jedi and he figures that out because he's holding his robes.
- 37:58Speaker 1: Nobody knows who killed the master.
- 38:00Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 38:02Speaker 4: Okay.
- 38:03Speaker 1: But this was by far, I think my favorite out
- 38:07Speaker 1: of here.
- 38:07Speaker 3: Um, This one was another good one. I did like
- 38:13Speaker 3: this one.
- 38:15Speaker 4: The other one I did like.
- 38:19Speaker 3: It, like.
- 38:20Speaker 4: So it didn't really set the precedent for what all
- 38:23Speaker 4: the other stories were going to be like.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Yep.
- 38:27Speaker 4: Because this one is the only one that feels like, hey,
- 38:31Speaker 4: there's a little bit of canon here. Is The Orphanage.
- 38:38Speaker 4: The Orphanage.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Is.
- 38:43Speaker 3: Like they name drop. Who is the. Kira Vantala.
- 38:51Speaker 1: Is a.
- 38:52Speaker 3: I believe a Jedi Master.
- 38:56Speaker 4: Or maybe. Yeah.
- 39:00Speaker 3: But like.
- 39:01Speaker 4: This was a short story. It wasn't just like a.
- 39:05Speaker 4: Like short little anthology. Like spooky story. Like this felt like.
- 39:10Speaker 3: This could be expanded upon a little bit.
- 39:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Well, and it makes sense with the Inquisitors. We
- 39:17Speaker 1: know that the Inquisitors were taking kids that they found
- 39:21Speaker 1: to be more sensitive so it makes total sense but
- 39:26Speaker 1: it's it was.
- 39:27Speaker 4: Very interesting because this phantom this evil individual.
- 39:37Speaker 3: Was a.
- 39:40Speaker 4: Uh it's the grand inquisitor is it the grand inquisitor
- 39:47Speaker 4: oh yeah Because I was questioning it because, of course,
- 39:53Speaker 4: it does describe a.
- 39:58Speaker 2: I.
- 39:59Speaker 3: Only know the freaking... I don't know the species. I
- 40:01Speaker 3: only know the planet.
- 40:01Speaker 4: It's a pow.
- 40:02Speaker 1: A barren. Or, yeah. A powen.
- 40:09Speaker 3: A powen, yeah.
- 40:11Speaker 4: Of course, the elongated face, the red makeup.
- 40:15Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:15Speaker 4: Not red makeup, but the red skin across their eyes.
- 40:21Speaker 1: Well, I was going based off the artwork, which has
- 40:25Speaker 1: the Grand Inquisitor in it. And the reason I'm assuming
- 40:31Speaker 1: it's the Grand Inquisitor, they talk about the Saber at
- 40:34Speaker 1: his back.
- 40:34Speaker 3: The Clone Wars.
- 40:36Speaker 1: The Clone Wars. But then he's also not wearing a helmet.
- 40:40Speaker 4: He's not wearing a helmet. The other children, including her,
- 40:45Speaker 4: and I'm saying her, Elish?
- 40:47Speaker 3: Elish.
- 40:48Speaker 4: Elish?
- 40:49Speaker 3: Elish or Elish, one of the two.
- 40:52Speaker 4: Along with Samil and Gifar, it is insinuated that these
- 41:00Speaker 4: are all Force-sensitive individuals.
- 41:03Speaker 1: Yep.
- 41:03Speaker 4: So it does make sense that the Grand Inquisitor would
- 41:07Speaker 4: be stealing them to possibly train them to become Inquisitors. So, like,
- 41:15Speaker 4: that I really liked. I did like this story because
- 41:18Speaker 4: it felt more canon. This felt like, hey, it's an
- 41:22Speaker 4: in-world story that is also kind of like a boogeyman.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Like, you have to be careful for this individual, right? So, like,
- 41:34Speaker 3: I felt that was cool.
- 41:35Speaker 4: Like, that felt less like a Goosebumps story and more
- 41:38Speaker 4: of like a, hey, this is an in-universe story that was...
- 41:44Speaker 4: sprinkled into the spooky season of Halloween, you know?
- 41:49Speaker 3: So I really liked that. All the other stories.
- 41:52Speaker 1: And if it makes you feel better, this, so this
- 41:55Speaker 1: dark legends book was published July 28th, 2020. So it
- 41:59Speaker 1: wasn't actually even published in the midst of spooky season.
- 42:02Speaker 3: Well, I know, but like the, the, the vibe of
- 42:05Speaker 3: the book is meant.
- 42:07Speaker 4: To be a spooky book.
- 42:10Speaker 1: That's the, no, yeah, no, I get what you're saying.
- 42:13Speaker 1: the the what did you feel about a life immortal
- 42:17Speaker 1: then which focuses on darth noctis who had the scythe
- 42:22Speaker 1: shaped lightsaber and noctis if you remember was mentioned in
- 42:27Speaker 1: shadow of the sith.
- 42:28Speaker 4: Yes um.
- 42:32Speaker 3: I know noctis um uh let me actually see uh Noctis, if.
- 42:42Speaker 4: I remember correctly... I.
- 42:46Speaker 3: Believe this is the right Sith Lord that I'm thinking of.
- 42:51Speaker 4: If I just.
- 42:52Speaker 1: It's not technically a Scythe Blade. It says Sith Lightsaber
- 42:55Speaker 1: with a curved blade.
- 42:57Speaker 4: With a curved blade.
- 42:59Speaker 2: Oh!
- 43:00Speaker 3: I'm thinking of Nihilus, not Noctis. So this one was fun.
- 43:07Speaker 4: It brought a little bit of, uh, Sith history to
- 43:11Speaker 4: this one. Um, I did enjoy this one. This is
- 43:14Speaker 4: the very last story.
- 43:16Speaker 3: Um, yes.
- 43:18Speaker 1: In the regular edition.
- 43:20Speaker 3: In the regular edition.
- 43:20Speaker 1: Yes.
- 43:22Speaker 3: Um, this one was cool. I really liked this one.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Um, Grant Griffin, who is the artist in this guys,
- 43:29Speaker 1: we forgot to mention him. Grant Griffin did a specific
- 43:32Speaker 1: art piece for each story. Um, in the collection and
- 43:38Speaker 1: he said as this story was one of the last
- 43:40Speaker 1: to be added and due to approaching printing deadlines i
- 43:43Speaker 1: had to proceed with the illustration without knowing whom or
- 43:46Speaker 1: what the main characters were what i did know was
- 43:49Speaker 1: that this story took place on exegol and was going
- 43:52Speaker 1: to have a strong dr frankenstein and igor vibe at
- 43:56Speaker 1: the time i only had the trailer visuals to go
- 43:59Speaker 1: off of inspired by a screenshot i built up the
- 44:02Speaker 1: scene and shrouded our sith in a hood to hide
- 44:04Speaker 1: their identity with a bit of forest lightning to showcase
- 44:07Speaker 1: the villain's power, I was able to increase the drama
- 44:10Speaker 1: in the composition. The curved lightsaber was added later, and
- 44:14Speaker 1: if I am not mistaken, is specific to a particular city.
- 44:19Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Kind of a little cool tidbit.
- 44:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 44:29Speaker 4: This, I remember this when I was kind of like,
- 44:32Speaker 4: kind of just like, hurrying because i was gonna run
- 44:35Speaker 4: out of time i was like crap uh this last
- 44:38Speaker 4: the last two stories i did at two times speed
- 44:40Speaker 4: so i'm just reading the uh plot summary real quick
- 44:43Speaker 4: and i i do remember most of this um this
- 44:47Speaker 4: one was fun like i i like and i i
- 44:50Speaker 4: may have judged it a little too hard because like
- 44:52Speaker 4: again i do like the idea of genre within star
- 45:00Speaker 4: wars i think like i I'm starting to sound a
- 45:04Speaker 4: little bit of a contradiction to myself. Kind of in
- 45:07Speaker 4: the same way that people are also wanting genre within DC.
- 45:12Speaker 4: But Clayface right now is not doing so well in
- 45:16Speaker 4: the box office. It's kind of just there off of
- 45:20Speaker 4: kind of making profit. Yeah. But I like genre. I
- 45:27Speaker 4: am not a huge scary person. Or horror person... But
- 45:32Speaker 4: I'm okay with reading it... And I'm okay with dabbling
- 45:35Speaker 4: into it... When I need to... I want people to
- 45:39Speaker 4: be able to express themselves... Who are writing Star Wars.
- 45:42Speaker 3: And want.
- 45:43Speaker 4: To write a horroristic... Type of story... That's totally fine...
- 45:48Speaker 4: My big thing was... Within these stories here... It feels like....
- 45:57Speaker 3: I can just change all the names.
- 46:03Speaker 3: And, like, say this was, like... Oh, this is during
- 46:07Speaker 3: the time of King Arthur.
- 46:11Speaker 4: And, like, it all kind of does the same thing. Like,
- 46:14Speaker 4: it all... Like, literally nothing can change.
- 46:18Speaker 3: I can just say, hey, this is Lancelot.
- 46:23Speaker 4: You know?
- 46:24Speaker 3: The very last story. And it'll just be like, wait, what?
- 46:28Speaker 1: But, to a sense, like... Everything has... an inspiration somewhere.
- 46:36Speaker 1: And so we all like, I remember growing up wanting
- 46:41Speaker 1: to take, and this is like the strangest thing, but
- 46:44Speaker 1: I wanted to take, uh, uh, Lara Croft and basically
- 46:51Speaker 1: put it in the middle of Chronicles of Narnia. Like
- 46:55Speaker 1: that's what I wanted to do with like a fiction
- 46:59Speaker 1: that I wanted to write. So everybody's going to take
- 47:02Speaker 1: those things. So what's wrong with taking Frankenstein and putting
- 47:05Speaker 1: it in the middle?
- 47:07Speaker 3: And you're right. What's the phrase? There's no original thought
- 47:10Speaker 3: under the sun anymore.
- 47:13Speaker 4: In Hollywood, I think they say there's only like three
- 47:17Speaker 4: types of films. I can't remember the exact number, but
- 47:21Speaker 4: it's something along those lines. And I get that. And
- 47:24Speaker 4: that's why when you have something of a pitch, you're
- 47:28Speaker 4: always like, oh, it's this but this, right? They take
- 47:33Speaker 4: things that have already been created and they amalgam them.
- 47:41Speaker 3: I don't know. What was the other one?
- 47:45Speaker 4: Is it Blood Moon or is it.
- 47:47Speaker 1: Blood Moon is the werewolf story.
- 47:51Speaker 4: Buyer Beware. That's the one I'm thinking of. Buyer Beware
- 47:55Speaker 4: is the Batuu story.
- 47:56Speaker 2: The mask.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Yes.
- 47:59Speaker 4: Um, and like this, like, like this, I think this
- 48:04Speaker 4: one felt more like a goosebumps story more than anything,
- 48:07Speaker 4: because it's just like, Oh, this person sees that this
- 48:12Speaker 4: other dude was able to get anything and everything he wanted.
- 48:16Speaker 4: And this dude is jealous of the amount of power
- 48:20Speaker 4: and money that he has. It's like, Oh, well, you know,
- 48:22Speaker 4: I'm a King, so I should be able to do
- 48:23Speaker 4: that anyway, but I'm going to use this mask to
- 48:26Speaker 4: do it. Um, And then, of course, you learn that,
- 48:29Speaker 4: you know, wearing this mask has consequences. And then there's
- 48:33Speaker 4: paranoia with it. Like, it kind of just checked every
- 48:36Speaker 4: box that, like, that kind of stereotypical story would have.
- 48:41Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:44Speaker 4: Maybe there just needed to be a little bit more, like.
- 48:50Speaker 3: I don't know. I don't know.
- 48:52Speaker 2: Like.
- 48:53Speaker 4: did I need a little bit more sci-fi in the stories?
- 48:56Speaker 4: Did I, did I need a little bit more star
- 48:59Speaker 4: Wars in the star Wars story? You know, maybe that's
- 49:04Speaker 4: my big thing. Cause I, I guess.
- 49:11Speaker 1: My argument with that is there's only so much star
- 49:14Speaker 1: Wars you can put in it. When you, talk about how, like,
- 49:18Speaker 1: I get the mask one. I completely agree with you
- 49:20Speaker 1: on the mask. There's really nothing there that says, oh,
- 49:23Speaker 1: this is Star Wars. The Noctis one, however, you're saying
- 49:27Speaker 1: kind of the same thing, but Noctis was talking about, like,
- 49:30Speaker 1: Force Lightning, the Sith, Exegol, lightsabers.
- 49:36Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 49:37Speaker 4: But Again, I think the Noctis story and the predecessor,
- 49:45Speaker 4: two very good examples of the Goosebumps-esque stories within the
- 49:54Speaker 4: Star Wars universe.
- 49:56Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 49:58Speaker 4: Okay.
- 50:00Speaker 3: The first one we were talking about. The Orphanage.
- 50:02Speaker 4: The predecessor. Yeah, okay. That's technically the first story in
- 50:07Speaker 4: the book. the orphanage that feels like it could be
- 50:12Speaker 4: an annual in a comic series. Like that, that is
- 50:17Speaker 4: just like, Hey, this is just a story that's part
- 50:19Speaker 4: of the star Wars universe.
- 50:21Speaker 3: You know, um, blood moon.
- 50:26Speaker 4: I'm trying to remember what was significant about blood moon.
- 50:30Speaker 3: This one was the one blood moon.
- 50:33Speaker 1: Is, is basically like a, um, Oh, a werewolf story.
- 50:40Speaker 1: They succumb to the... It's a kyber moon that has
- 50:46Speaker 1: turned red.
- 50:47Speaker 4: Yeah, this one I don't remember really wowing me. That
- 50:54Speaker 4: one didn't wow me very much. And then I think
- 50:59Speaker 4: the other one, unfortunately, was the Nightsister one. The Nightsister
- 51:03Speaker 4: one just was kind of meh to me.
- 51:05Speaker 1: Oh, I loved the Nightsister one. It definitely was not
- 51:08Speaker 1: my favorite, but I thought it was very good.
- 51:13Speaker 4: And maybe I need to just listen to it again.
- 51:15Speaker 4: Maybe after this conversation, I can kind of just take
- 51:19Speaker 4: a chill pill, I guess, and just be like, hey,
- 51:21Speaker 4: it is what it is.
- 51:23Speaker 1: Because it's definitely something that we saw Asajj try to
- 51:27Speaker 1: do in the Clone Wars. It's something very similar, taking
- 51:31Speaker 1: over somebody's mind and really getting in their thoughts. And
- 51:36Speaker 1: man just kind of took it and ran with it,
- 51:37Speaker 1: expanded it into something that worked for the story he
- 51:43Speaker 1: was trying to tell. And that story is The Gilded Cage.
- 51:52Speaker 1: What did I download? I didn't want to download opera.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Oh my gosh. I'm going to have to debug my
- 52:04Speaker 1: oh no anyways so the other fun fact that I
- 52:15Speaker 1: was going to share about this is the Dark Legends
- 52:19Speaker 1: Target Edition again sucks that this had to be in
- 52:23Speaker 1: the exclusive edition but they actually introduced the Drengear In
- 52:33Speaker 1: the last story.
- 52:34Speaker 2: In.
- 52:37Speaker 1: In the target edition. Which is called. A bitter harvest.
- 52:41Speaker 1: And that was the first introduction of the drink gear.
- 52:44Speaker 1: Like canonically speaking. Like that was the first time the
- 52:47Speaker 1: word drink gear. Is mentioned. It does take place. It
- 52:52Speaker 1: looks like. Like during the high republic. Phase.
- 52:57Speaker 3: Is that with the sniff?
- 53:01Speaker 1: No, so it's not like they're.
- 53:04Speaker 3: That far back.
- 53:05Speaker 1: So it's just like, this is the first time they're
- 53:08Speaker 1: mentioned in canon. As like, this is the first book
- 53:12Speaker 1: that they're in. One of the notes on the story says,
- 53:17Speaker 1: this story involves Drengir during the High Republic era. The
- 53:20Speaker 1: Drengir act as a collective and were put in stasis
- 53:23Speaker 1: thousands of years before the High Republic era. Therefore, the
- 53:27Speaker 1: story can only take place during the Drengir crisis. where
- 53:31Speaker 1: the creatures were awoken and defeated during the High Republic era.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Star Wars Timelines dates the Dreamgear crisis as taking place
- 53:38Speaker 1: between 232 and 231 BBY. All right.
- 53:42Speaker 3: Very nice.
- 53:44Speaker 1: But it's the first, like, because this book came out,
- 53:48Speaker 1: the Target edition came out August 30th, 2020, and the
- 53:53Speaker 1: High Republic did not get started until January 2021. And now, originally, originally,
- 54:00Speaker 1: I believe that Dark Legends would have come out after
- 54:07Speaker 1: the High Republic got started because the High Republic was
- 54:10Speaker 1: originally supposed to start in January 2020, but because of
- 54:14Speaker 1: COVID and everything, everything got pushed back.
- 54:19Speaker 3: Yeah. All right, all right, all right.
- 54:22Speaker 4: I will, well, you know, that's kind of a bummer
- 54:28Speaker 4: because now that I think about it, I understand having
- 54:33Speaker 4: exclusive for target, but like, why not have those on
- 54:40Speaker 4: the audio book then?
- 54:43Speaker 1: Yeah. It's because it's because those people want like audible
- 54:49Speaker 1: has exclusive stuff. Um, they just want a chance for, Hey,
- 54:55Speaker 1: you have to go here to get it. And like,
- 54:58Speaker 1: that's why like dungeon crawler Carl, for instance, the, audiobook.
- 55:03Speaker 4: Is only available on.
- 55:05Speaker 1: Audible because of that aspect um but like in the
- 55:11Speaker 1: hard cup hard copy of dungeon crawler carl they actually
- 55:15Speaker 1: asked him if he could do an exclusive story for
- 55:19Speaker 1: the hard copies to encourage people to buy hard copies
- 55:22Speaker 1: because the author kept the digital rights so he has
- 55:26Speaker 1: all the publishing rights for the e-book And the audiobooks.
- 55:30Speaker 4: Nice.
- 55:32Speaker 1: And so they're like, well, if we're going to buy this,
- 55:34Speaker 1: we want you to put something exclusive in the hard
- 55:36Speaker 1: copies so people are encouraged to buy the hard copies.
- 55:41Speaker 3: Nice.
- 55:44Speaker 1: It sucks. But it is what it is. That's the
- 55:47Speaker 1: publishing world right now.
- 55:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that's true.
- 55:51Speaker 4: All right, well, Katie, I believe that is it for
- 55:55Speaker 4: the episode. I think that overall we enjoyed the Dark
- 56:01Speaker 4: Legends book. I may have been a little too, like
- 56:03Speaker 4: a little, I came in a little hot with the
- 56:06Speaker 4: hot take. And I think I've kind of cooled down
- 56:10Speaker 4: on the idea of it. But I still enjoyed it.
- 56:13Speaker 3: So not a bad book whatsoever. But yeah.
- 56:18Speaker 4: With that, guys, of course, you can find me at
- 56:20Speaker 4: Fanboy Clay over on Instagram and threads. Go check me
- 56:27Speaker 4: out also over on Ranger Alliance. We should have two

- 57:42Speaker 1: everything linked appropriately. Guys, We are nearing the end of
- 57:46Speaker 1: the year. Like Clay said, we are recording a Patreon

- 58:28Speaker 1: the High Republic adult rankings. And then on November 19th,
- 58:33Speaker 1: the week before Thanksgiving, guys, um we are going to
- 58:37Speaker 1: be doing a conversational topic uh where we say okay
- 58:42Speaker 1: is a new multi-season animated tv show is it too
- 58:45Speaker 1: soon is it too late can we have another one

- 59:33Speaker 1: I forgot to say that. For November. We are not

- 59:45Speaker 1: Eat sweet potato casserole. That's my favorite. But December schedule
- 59:50Speaker 1: is going to be under review. And we will let
- 59:51Speaker 1: you guys know what we can. But you guys also
