- 2:00Speaker 3: welcome to the show.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Good morning, nice to meet you. It's been a long time.
- 2:04Speaker 3: It's been a long time. It's been a long time.
- 2:07Speaker 5: No, And you keep asking me, and I'm like, yeah,
- 2:09Speaker 5: I have stuff to talk about the and now like
- 2:11Speaker 5: that was a month and a half, it was almost
- 2:13Speaker 5: two months ago. I just I've been everywhere. I've been
- 2:16Speaker 5: doing all kind of work of the people, work of
- 2:19Speaker 5: the state, anything you need me to do. And now
- 2:21Speaker 5: apparently it sounds like I'm going to write a hundred
- 2:23Speaker 5: dollars check to the WU School of Journalism. No, it's
- 2:26Speaker 5: not called that anymore, the Pearly I agreed School of Journalism.
- 2:29Speaker 5: It's what's the culture, No, hang on the creative arts
- 2:34Speaker 5: and media something something. But local journalism is important and
- 2:39Speaker 5: we need to help students when they're going through the
- 2:43Speaker 5: School of journalism. I remember getting like a two hundred,
- 2:45Speaker 5: two hundred and fifty dollars scholarship from someone and that, well,
- 2:48Speaker 5: that was huge back in nineteen ninety.
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah, that same year that Yeah, that's the same year
- 2:53Speaker 3: that I was at Marshall. Yeah, in nineteen ninety it
- 2:55Speaker 3: was a big deal. Is that what you major DA
- 2:58Speaker 3: was journalism? I mean, I know what you did, broadcast
- 3:00Speaker 3: broadcast see now at Marshall. When I was there, you
- 3:03Speaker 3: had the School of Journalism in the School of broadcasting.
- 3:06Speaker 3: They were two different things. But then they came together,
- 3:09Speaker 3: which I always thought they should be together anyway, and
- 3:11Speaker 3: they came in. I was actually a public relations major
- 3:14Speaker 3: and minored in broadcasting.
- 3:16Speaker 5: I remember my dad, you know, I'm from a family
- 3:18Speaker 5: of educators, and I started out to be a teacher
- 3:22Speaker 5: and I switched my major and my Dad's like, well,
- 3:24Speaker 5: you know, you probably should go to the Marshall School
- 3:27Speaker 5: of Journalism. And like, my eyes got real big because
- 3:30Speaker 5: he was a high school principal at Fairmont Senior at
- 3:33Speaker 5: the time, and he knew of the good work at
- 3:35Speaker 5: Marshall in the School of Journalism.
- 3:37Speaker 3: And then I was like, no, I don't want to
- 3:39Speaker 3: go to marsh They do, and this is me being
- 3:43Speaker 3: a little bit of a homer. They do have a
- 3:44Speaker 3: fantastic journal I couldn't always have they always And.
- 3:47Speaker 5: Then when I got into it and Chuck Bailey best
- 3:50Speaker 5: guy in the world, isn't he?
- 3:51Speaker 3: Yeah? Yeah, good Logan County guy?
- 3:54Speaker 6: Is he?
- 3:54Speaker 3: Of course everybody's from.
- 3:56Speaker 5: Me exactly, and I need to talk to you about
- 3:57Speaker 5: another Logan County person. Can we just have the whole
- 4:00Speaker 5: I've got a lot of things to talk about. I
- 4:02Speaker 5: need to talk about the I just lost his name.
- 4:06Speaker 5: He's a manager or an agent of the stars, and
- 4:11Speaker 5: I need the agent for Shirley Jones. She's getting old.
- 4:15Speaker 5: My mother went to voice lessons with her. Jones, the
- 4:22Speaker 5: Shirley Yes, yeah, so she's about ninety something. My mother's
- 4:26Speaker 5: been gone fifteen years. She would be almost ninety five too,
- 4:30Speaker 5: and she would take a train up from Clarksburg to
- 4:33Speaker 5: go there. And I just want and I found some
- 4:36Speaker 5: of my mother's materials and things, and it talks about
- 4:41Speaker 5: her being up there. And so before Shirley Jones dies,
- 4:44Speaker 5: I just want to meet her and see if she
- 4:46Speaker 5: remembers a Rosemary Brunetti having been up there.
- 4:50Speaker 4: My mom.
- 4:51Speaker 5: Her father wouldn't let her continue in theater and opera
- 4:55Speaker 5: and singing, because you know what happens to those people,
- 4:58Speaker 5: That's all he said. But Shirley Jones did. And she
- 5:02Speaker 5: was from like Coreopolis or something up near Pittsburgh.
- 5:05Speaker 3: I learned a lot today.
- 5:06Speaker 5: Oh yeah, so who's your buddy. He's from Lake Burke, Allen.
- 5:09Speaker 4: That's it.
- 5:09Speaker 3: My my my unpaid agent.
- 5:11Speaker 5: Burke out, He's going to be my unpaid agent.
- 5:14Speaker 3: Well Burke Burke. Maybe he listens to the show every day.
- 5:16Speaker 3: His office is in DC, but he listens to the
- 5:18Speaker 3: show on the app. I need him, mister Allen, you
- 5:21Speaker 3: are going to get a call from Commissioner.
- 5:23Speaker 5: I mean, and I have I have an email back
- 5:26Speaker 5: and forth, but I don't know if it was a
- 5:28Speaker 5: real person who you know, it was just a shyster
- 5:32Speaker 5: trying to tell me they knew somebody.
- 5:33Speaker 3: And I promise you and I'm and I'm literally I'm
- 5:37Speaker 3: being as unprofessional as I could because I'm going to
- 5:39Speaker 3: text you the number right now while I'm thinking about it.
- 5:42Speaker 3: But I can promise you that in the world of entertainment,
- 5:45Speaker 3: if Burke doesn't know them, he knows the guy that
- 5:48Speaker 3: knows them.
- 5:49Speaker 5: And I'm like ready and like Shirley Jones is getting
- 5:52Speaker 5: up there in the years. But I think I saw
- 5:54Speaker 5: somewhere where she had a birthday and she was still
- 5:57Speaker 5: you know, you know, with it. And then here comes
- 6:00Speaker 5: comes he all saying, hey, you know my mom, And
- 6:03Speaker 5: that's what I want. And I'll let folks know I'll
- 6:06Speaker 5: keep you up today.
- 6:07Speaker 3: There you go, well, I just sent you birk phone
- 6:08Speaker 3: numbers here. Thank you out You did tell me they
- 6:11Speaker 3: had several things you want to talk about. What what's
- 6:14Speaker 3: Operation GPA?
- 6:15Speaker 5: No. Operation GPA has been going on for twenty years
- 6:18Speaker 5: and it is a collaboration with the Sheriff's Department and
- 6:23Speaker 5: giving funds to the county high schools through our Public
- 6:27Speaker 5: Safety Grant initiative that we have, and it is an
- 6:33Speaker 5: opportunity to teach students the Sheriff's department. Hang on a second,
- 6:40Speaker 5: I just lost my notes because I wrote them down.
- 6:43Speaker 5: It is an effort to educate students and the public
- 6:45Speaker 5: on the dangers of them pair driver and particularly concerning
- 6:48Speaker 5: alcohol use. And it thrives to build those strong, those
- 6:51Speaker 5: strong partnerships because prom is coming up and graduation is
- 6:56Speaker 5: coming up, and we often get requests all the time
- 7:00Speaker 5: that can you give this school? Can you give that school?
- 7:02Speaker 5: And we say, well, we've already given this through the
- 7:05Speaker 5: public public safety funds. So it's about one thousand or
- 7:09Speaker 5: twenty five hundred dollars to each school high school to
- 7:13Speaker 5: be able to use that. And it's good that you
- 7:17Speaker 5: know the Sheriff's Department is there and they're out and
- 7:20Speaker 5: we're going to do that tomorrow actually, so it'll be
- 7:23Speaker 5: on the news again.
- 7:24Speaker 3: Okay, so at the County commission meeting tomorrow that's going.
- 7:26Speaker 5: To be No, We're going up to Metro at at
- 7:29Speaker 5: ten am. Superintendent will be there, representatives of the school
- 7:33Speaker 5: to receive the checks and it's really a good thing.
- 7:36Speaker 3: We'll talk about this as we get a little bit closer.
- 7:39Speaker 3: But I didn't want to throw this out there. The
- 7:40Speaker 3: Canaw County spring cleanups will be happening according to the
- 7:42Speaker 3: schedule that I saw commissioned. The first one is going
- 7:45Speaker 3: to be in Cistonville on April eleventh, and we'll talk
- 7:47Speaker 3: about that as we get a little bit closer.
- 7:49Speaker 5: And closer and people were starting to clean up. If
- 7:51Speaker 5: the weather would cooperate with us, people could Yeah, exactly exactly.
- 7:56Speaker 3: Where are you, Brian Hughes. Yeah, two days in a
- 7:58Speaker 3: row on it. But April eleventh is going to be
- 7:59Speaker 3: the first one in Cistanville and we'll talk about that.
- 8:02Speaker 3: I just want to count of put it on everybody's radar.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Speaking of things coming up, you're gearing up for the
- 8:06Speaker 3: Camp Virgil Tate egg hunt.
- 8:08Speaker 5: Yes, it is a special type of egg hunt. It
- 8:11Speaker 5: is a fundraiser obviously for Camp virgil Tate, but it
- 8:15Speaker 5: also serves there's an opportunity. It's non competitive, and it's
- 8:21Speaker 5: allergy friendly, and it is this Saturday, the twenty eighth.
- 8:24Speaker 5: Thats the twenty eighth, this Saturday, from twelve to three.
- 8:28Speaker 5: Tickets are fifteen dollars an egg hunt. Everybody wins prizes.
- 8:32Speaker 5: There's local vendors, cool beans, coffee will be there, food
- 8:35Speaker 5: and drink, so you have an opportunity to see a
- 8:37Speaker 5: food truck. But also, I mean it's a plus all
- 8:41Speaker 5: the way around. You help out Camp virgil Tape. You
- 8:44Speaker 5: allow children to be in a non competitive of any age,
- 8:47Speaker 5: children of any age, and a non competitive hunt and
- 8:49Speaker 5: allergy friendly also, and they're not giving out candy. When
- 8:52Speaker 5: you collect so many eggs. It's like what you would
- 8:55Speaker 5: do at chunky cheese. You have so many eggs. You
- 8:57Speaker 5: have so you are eligible for this prize. You have
- 9:00Speaker 5: somebody eggs available for that prize and good prizes, not candy.
- 9:03Speaker 3: So not candy. Well that'll make my good friend Millie
- 9:05Speaker 3: Snyder happy.
- 9:06Speaker 5: I guess everybody's good friend's awesome.
- 9:10Speaker 3: She comes on the show with me once a month.
- 9:13Speaker 3: Uh and uh uh she she she's an amazing person.
- 9:17Speaker 3: Is it our friend? Okay, do you want to take
- 9:20Speaker 3: a call?
- 9:21Speaker 5: Commission?
- 9:21Speaker 3: Okay? Always I always if I don't know the answer,
- 9:24Speaker 3: I always want to always want to ask first. Okay, Yeah,
- 9:26Speaker 3: we're good, Ryan, go ahead. Uh you're on with the
- 9:29Speaker 3: commissioner Tenant, go ahead.
- 9:31Speaker 7: Yes, this is I live in Tornado, right. Yes, And
- 9:36Speaker 7: I was wondering, is it possible? I know the cities Charleston,
- 9:40Speaker 7: South Charleston, they have uh, I don't. I don't want
- 9:44Speaker 7: to call them teams, but they expect, they expect us
- 9:48Speaker 7: you to keep your in a certain orderly way. Is
- 9:53Speaker 7: is there any way the county can enforce such a
- 9:55Speaker 7: such a thing as that?
- 9:57Speaker 5: Yes, And and joke, I know you're driving. It's it's
- 10:02Speaker 5: going in and out, and I know that you're driving.
- 10:05Speaker 5: You probably thought of this when you heard us talk
- 10:07Speaker 5: about the string the spring cleanup. But yes, our Planning
- 10:11Speaker 5: Commission when whenever there are requests like that to take
- 10:14Speaker 5: a look at if there's a property that is uh
- 10:20Speaker 5: a blight or or terrible what's the word site sightly?
- 10:26Speaker 5: Unsightly I guess excuse me, Yes, the Planning Commission can
- 10:31Speaker 5: do that. We also have an ordinance that if there
- 10:35Speaker 5: is uh, let's just garbage or sticks or things that
- 10:39Speaker 5: might be close to a drain or run off, then
- 10:42Speaker 5: we have an ordinance that says it's the responsibility of
- 10:45Speaker 5: the homeowner to take care of that. So yes, we
- 10:48Speaker 5: also have that in place, and I mean we're here
- 10:50Speaker 5: to help. That's what the whole cleanup is about. You
- 10:53Speaker 5: don't just bring your stuff to Sissonville or to the
- 10:58Speaker 5: head the outlet of Cabin Creek. That's on the twenty
- 11:01Speaker 5: fifth of April, and then this fall we'll have some
- 11:04Speaker 5: in the Elkview area Cleandenon area up there. So we're
- 11:08Speaker 5: here to help. We're not here to tell you to
- 11:10Speaker 5: clean it up and not help. We're here to help
- 11:12Speaker 5: and do that. Also, we also have through the Regional
- 11:15Speaker 5: Development Authority where we can go and help you with
- 11:20Speaker 5: demolition and get it cleaned up, and then you pay
- 11:24Speaker 5: part of what it costs for the demolition. And if
- 11:27Speaker 5: you don't pay it up, then you can't do you
- 11:29Speaker 5: can't use that property yet or do anything with it
- 11:31Speaker 5: until you've paid your portion of the demolition.
- 11:34Speaker 7: Answer your question, don well, well, a little bit, but
- 11:38Speaker 7: our Homeowners of Station Association went out it's defunct, but
- 11:43Speaker 7: I went I talked to a lawyer about a particular
- 11:45Speaker 7: neighbor and he researched it for me, and a little
- 11:48Speaker 7: lawyer is very I am the past spurred here on
- 11:52Speaker 7: this station, and he told me that the restrictions are
- 11:56Speaker 7: still in place in the neighborhood. They're attached to the
- 12:00Speaker 7: deed of the property and they could still be enforced,
- 12:02Speaker 7: but there's no homeowners association to enforce it in the
- 12:07Speaker 7: county go that route on those restrictions, hits are attached.
- 12:12Speaker 8: To the deed.
- 12:12Speaker 9: Like you said, well, that would still I don't know
- 12:16Speaker 9: the answer fully, but I would think you we still
- 12:20Speaker 9: would have authority because it's a blight and it could
- 12:24Speaker 9: be causing problems.
- 12:25Speaker 3: With train could be a health issue as well.
- 12:27Speaker 10: Yes, all.
- 12:28Speaker 5: And then also in my former life, I was Secretary
- 12:31Speaker 5: of state where they also have homeowners associations registered, and
- 12:37Speaker 5: maybe there needs to be a look into that and
- 12:42Speaker 5: to see if it's you're saying it's defunct, but if
- 12:44Speaker 5: it's on the book somewheres, I mean truly get it,
- 12:47Speaker 5: get it taken.
- 12:48Speaker 3: On what I gathered from Don and I don't want
- 12:50Speaker 3: to put words him out. Then I think, Don, I
- 12:51Speaker 3: think you've got a bigger issue with the neighbor and
- 12:54Speaker 3: what can be done as far as like a solid
- 12:56Speaker 3: waste authority. And I know they're called different things in
- 12:58Speaker 3: different counties. I think that's kind of what you're getting at.
- 13:00Speaker 3: If if you've got a situation like that, what can
- 13:03Speaker 3: be done about it?
- 13:03Speaker 7: Is that where you're going with that, Don, Yes, that's
- 13:06Speaker 7: what I was where I was going. But I know
- 13:10Speaker 7: no one likes to get out of sail. But yeah,
- 13:13Speaker 7: I mean, there're five or six dollars. It's the yards
- 13:16Speaker 7: that ever cleaned up. They work on cars. There's rear ends, transmissions,
- 13:21Speaker 7: old tires laid in the frick yard of them. And
- 13:24Speaker 7: the rest of the neighborhood is fine except but you.
- 13:27Speaker 3: Know, except for that one.
- 13:29Speaker 7: It only takes one Hols West Virginia. It's could be
- 13:32Speaker 7: sometimes well.
- 13:33Speaker 3: But it only takes one to bring down the values
- 13:35Speaker 3: of everybody else. I mean, I completely understand.
- 13:37Speaker 5: What you're saying, Okay, And we also have this is
- 13:40Speaker 5: why we have such good staff. Chris Settles. There is
- 13:44Speaker 5: a Public Nuisance and Property Ordinance of Kanawa County. It
- 13:48Speaker 5: was actually adopted in two thousand and five. Don't wonder.
- 13:53Speaker 5: I didn't know too much about it. I wouldn't even
- 13:54Speaker 5: Secretary of State.
- 13:55Speaker 3: There's still in college.
- 13:56Speaker 5: But yeah, that's right. And it and mends the Public
- 14:00Speaker 5: Ordinance of Conawa County to add a new section Structure
- 14:05Speaker 5: Unfit Human Occupancy METTHEA. Pathan Lands and Men the existing
- 14:09Speaker 5: section one or nine and what Chris also says, which
- 14:12Speaker 5: makes a good point. We don't know these things sometimes,
- 14:15Speaker 5: and so we are complaint driven. So you're gonna need
- 14:19Speaker 5: to call the County Commission's office. And here's the phone number.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Can you remember this? Don never driving? Can you remember this?
- 14:26Speaker 5: I mean, oh yeah, well this is actually easy. Three
- 14:30Speaker 5: five to seven is like the it's three oh four
- 14:32Speaker 5: three five sevens the county zero zero five seven zero.
- 14:38Speaker 3: Zero five sevens. Remember the three five seven zero five
- 14:42Speaker 3: sevens seven zero.
- 14:43Speaker 7: You got that, Don, I've got I've got it. I
- 14:46Speaker 7: appreciate you taking the call, and I hope I didn't
- 14:49Speaker 7: take any time away down.
- 14:50Speaker 3: Oh you're found, you're fined.
- 14:51Speaker 5: Oh I have so much other stuff to talk about too.
- 14:54Speaker 5: I've been in Mineral County on Monday. John.
- 14:56Speaker 3: We appreciate the phone call. Thanks a lot. It's nine
- 14:58Speaker 3: to twenty two. Did we Okay, I want to move
- 15:00Speaker 3: on to a couple other things here. Uh, it is
- 15:03Speaker 3: election time, or it will be soon.
- 15:04Speaker 5: It is election time now.
- 15:06Speaker 3: It never stops. That's right, for better or for worse,
- 15:09Speaker 3: It never it never actually stops. But I'm talking about
- 15:11Speaker 3: you know, we'll get into the primary and early voting
- 15:14Speaker 3: and stuff like that, and I know that everybody's kind
- 15:17Speaker 3: of gearing up for that right now. And again something
- 15:18Speaker 3: you know a little something about getting ready for elections.
- 15:21Speaker 5: Well, I mean, here's the thing too, because we haven't
- 15:23Speaker 5: seen it. We're starting to see signs. You know, mostly
- 15:26Speaker 5: people see it on the outward facing with the candidates,
- 15:29Speaker 5: with the signs and the commercials and things like that.
- 15:32Speaker 5: But ask a county clerk what they're doing. I saw
- 15:34Speaker 5: Vera McCormick in the hallway and she kept saying she's
- 15:37Speaker 5: like Natalie, and everybody knows Vera, and you know, Vera
- 15:40Speaker 5: and I we we get along, we love each other.
- 15:42Speaker 5: We've butted ahead a few times, heads a few times.
- 15:45Speaker 3: But everybody has butted heads with Vera McCormick at one
- 15:48Speaker 3: And I mean that in the best possible way.
- 15:50Speaker 5: Sometimes county clerks don't like secretaries of state, and I
- 15:53Speaker 5: always say, and God love them. They love me now
- 15:57Speaker 5: they love me because their favorite secretary is the next one.
- 16:01Speaker 11: Yes.
- 16:02Speaker 5: Anyway, Vera's like Natalie. We're looking over the ballots and
- 16:06Speaker 5: She's like and it's so large, and it is especially
- 16:10Speaker 5: for a primary, and especially because this primary election midterms,
- 16:14Speaker 5: we have the executive committee state and county executive committees
- 16:18Speaker 5: for both parties, Democrat and Republican. And Vera had this
- 16:21Speaker 5: wonderful idea leading up to this that she was working on.
- 16:26Speaker 5: I was on board. The county commissioners and Mark Slotnick,
- 16:29Speaker 5: who's the other the two lawyers, Mark Slotnik and Chris
- 16:34Speaker 5: Settles really take care of us and protect me from myself.
- 16:38Speaker 5: But we were all on board. We just needed to
- 16:40Speaker 5: get the two parties to be to lower the number
- 16:44Speaker 5: of executive committee members. Anyway, that's a long story, but
- 16:49Speaker 5: right now that's what's taking place behind the scenes. And
- 16:53Speaker 5: she is focused and the folks in the County Clerk's office,
- 16:56Speaker 5: and so am I in the County commission. I mean,
- 16:59Speaker 5: that is what I can bring to the County Commission.
- 17:01Speaker 5: You know, right off the bat. You know last year
- 17:04Speaker 5: I told you things. I was still learning stuff. I
- 17:06Speaker 5: might not have even been able to answer some of
- 17:07Speaker 5: these questions as freely and as eloquently as I do now.
- 17:12Speaker 5: But elections is what I can help with. And I
- 17:16Speaker 5: asked Vera, and she's like, we've already gone to the
- 17:19Speaker 5: ballot commissioners to look over it, you know, always checking
- 17:22Speaker 5: and making sure that those ballots are correct and the
- 17:25Speaker 5: way they're supposed to be.
- 17:26Speaker 1: So.
- 17:26Speaker 5: At the same time, all this behind the scene work
- 17:29Speaker 5: is being doing, getting poll workers, setting up ballots, finally
- 17:33Speaker 5: making sure the polling places work. They're also having to
- 17:38Speaker 5: battle lawmakers, and not just state lawmakers, but federal lawmakers.
- 17:43Speaker 5: And right now what we have on board is on
- 17:46Speaker 5: the federal level in the US Senate, and we're talking
- 17:48Speaker 5: about the Save Act, and that is a terrible idea
- 17:53Speaker 5: because it's going to hurt not just I mean, it
- 17:56Speaker 5: is going to hurt women more than anything else because
- 17:59Speaker 5: they want you to show to get registered to vote,
- 18:02Speaker 5: you need to show a passport. How many people have passports.
- 18:08Speaker 5: You can't easily do that. And then for women, you
- 18:11Speaker 5: have to show a document that has your name on it,
- 18:13Speaker 5: so a birth certificate, but that might not be your name.
- 18:16Speaker 5: Now you have your birth name, you have your married name.
- 18:20Speaker 5: For many you have you may have gotten a divorce
- 18:22Speaker 5: and now you have a new married name. So they
- 18:24Speaker 5: have to go through all of these and people say,
- 18:26Speaker 5: well we should have to show ID. Guess what we
- 18:28Speaker 5: already show ID. Insertina eighteen exactly. And you show your vote.
- 18:33Speaker 5: You can vote, show your voter registration card which made
- 18:36Speaker 5: sure that that's who you were when you got registered
- 18:39Speaker 5: to vote first place. Yes, you had, and if you
- 18:42Speaker 5: even mailed it in you had to show a photo
- 18:45Speaker 5: ID the first time you used it. And so now
- 18:48Speaker 5: you're on the books with your signature. Now you're on
- 18:50Speaker 5: the Now you can show your ID.
- 18:52Speaker 4: With what you have.
- 18:53Speaker 5: And this is just making extra hoops to go through.
- 18:56Speaker 5: And it's not about on election day or early election day.
- 19:00Speaker 5: It's leading up to it. It's a barrier leading up
- 19:03Speaker 5: to it. Right now we have the voting or voter
- 19:06Speaker 5: registration ends April twenty first, and so you're thinking, I'm
- 19:10Speaker 5: going to get registered. I'll get there, that's a couple
- 19:12Speaker 5: of weeks away, I'll be all right, and then before
- 19:13Speaker 5: you know it, it's April twenty first, and before you
- 19:15Speaker 5: know it, you don't have the correct name, you don't
- 19:17Speaker 5: have the correct documents with all your names on it.
- 19:19Speaker 5: So Save Act is bad. Talk to your US senators.
- 19:23Speaker 5: I talked to Senator Capito when she was here. You know,
- 19:27Speaker 5: I didn't want to look like a you know, looking
- 19:30Speaker 5: a good thing in the mouth, as they say, but
- 19:32Speaker 5: she was handing out money and I was there and
- 19:34Speaker 5: I just said, you know, can you not vote for
- 19:36Speaker 5: the Save Act? So I'm trying to do my due
- 19:39Speaker 5: diligence with that because a county clerk should not have
- 19:43Speaker 5: to worry about what's going on in the federal government
- 19:45Speaker 5: when they're busy trying to get the ballot correct. Same
- 19:48Speaker 5: goes in the state. There were a lot of election laws,
- 19:51Speaker 5: and I always thought we never did this during election years,
- 19:54Speaker 5: focus on so many election laws and try to make
- 19:56Speaker 5: these changes, because the clerk should not have to be
- 19:59Speaker 5: running up to the capital to say this is how
- 20:01Speaker 5: the election process works, when they should be focused on
- 20:05Speaker 5: and have the opportunity to be focused on preparing an election.
- 20:07Speaker 3: All right, I think we have a call, and Roy,
- 20:10Speaker 3: let me tell you what we're gonna do. We're gonna
- 20:12Speaker 3: take this call. Then we'll take the break and I
- 20:14Speaker 3: will see if Commissioner I've already been in touch with
- 20:16Speaker 3: my second guests because Commissioner Tenant can stick around a
- 20:18Speaker 3: little bit. So we're going to kind of transition a
- 20:20Speaker 3: little bit. But I think we have a call, So
- 20:22Speaker 3: go ahead, Eddie, I think was Eddie're.
- 20:23Speaker 4: On the air? Yes, yeah, you're on.
- 20:26Speaker 3: What we're doing doing fine? You're on with Commissioner Tenant?
- 20:28Speaker 5: Hello?
- 20:29Speaker 4: Yes, Hell Nanley, how are you good?
- 20:31Speaker 5: I'm doing well. I'm getting to talk for twenty seven minutes.
- 20:34Speaker 4: So far everything in the county seems to be going well.
- 20:39Speaker 4: But Mayor good one that's helped me so much with
- 20:42Speaker 4: helping to keep up the behind Mary c Snow Elementary,
- 20:47Speaker 4: the abandoned railroad tracks that go back to the floor
- 20:51Speaker 4: or to the underpass. That is such an environmental nightmare
- 20:57Speaker 4: that I was told ken Or fifteen years ago. It
- 21:01Speaker 4: was a thirty million dollar environmental nightmare. And people have
- 21:06Speaker 4: come seem to think that that is a city trust dump.
- 21:10Speaker 4: They just cleaned it up, they cleaned it all up,
- 21:13Speaker 4: all the trash, everything, and then it wasn't a week
- 21:16Speaker 4: later they come back through there and some people think
- 21:19Speaker 4: that's just a trust dump underneath that railroad underpass. And
- 21:24Speaker 4: I can devalues my property. I owned three lots on
- 21:29Speaker 4: this corner and it devalues my property so bad? Can
- 21:35Speaker 4: we not get like it cleaned up completely and put
- 21:39Speaker 4: a chain link fence around it. But it's something to
- 21:42Speaker 4: where they can't even look through underneath there anymore. Something
- 21:48Speaker 4: to stop this.
- 21:50Speaker 5: That's what I was thinking too. All the hard work,
- 21:52Speaker 5: and I hear the mayor all the time talk about
- 21:55Speaker 5: the city employees and all the hard work that they do, and.
- 21:58Speaker 4: It's like they do they great. Yeah, Oh I called
- 22:02Speaker 4: that guy knows my name personally, I call.
- 22:05Speaker 5: Hey, that's not good or bad. I don't know if
- 22:06Speaker 5: that's good or bad.
- 22:07Speaker 4: He goes, what's up, Eddie? He's like, is it bad again?
- 22:12Speaker 4: I was like, it's terrible underneath here. And they came
- 22:16Speaker 4: and they cleaned it. I mean the city employees. They
- 22:18Speaker 4: showed up with like tmcity trucks and black host and
- 22:22Speaker 4: cleaned it all up. And it was in a week later.
- 22:25Speaker 4: There was a garbage I mean, uh, grocery cards and trash.
- 22:32Speaker 5: Well, I mean what what I would say? I mean,
- 22:35Speaker 5: And I'm sure the mayor has thought of this. She's
- 22:38Speaker 5: she's innovated, she has a good team. Yes, I was
- 22:41Speaker 5: thinking the chain link fence. Also. You know what sometimes
- 22:44Speaker 5: that does. It is when people find out, oh, my
- 22:47Speaker 5: buddy was fined fifty five hundred dollars for dumping the trash.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, they went, yeah, they found the mail. They found
- 22:56Speaker 4: a bag that had open mail in it, that had
- 22:59Speaker 4: the of where it came from, and.
- 23:02Speaker 5: They look, okay, well, I mean that's what that's what
- 23:06Speaker 5: I were looking at. And that's the thing the city.
- 23:10Speaker 5: The city knows, you know, we we we have to
- 23:12Speaker 5: we have to rely on grants. I mean, the county
- 23:15Speaker 5: does anytime when there's something that we're looking new to do,
- 23:20Speaker 5: is we ask for federal grants, or we ask for
- 23:23Speaker 5: grants or you know, we apply for grants that might
- 23:25Speaker 5: be a help.
- 23:26Speaker 4: They're going if they're going to leave it, and ma'am,
- 23:29Speaker 4: it needs to be torn down. It's falling down all
- 23:32Speaker 4: around itself as is. But they said it would be
- 23:36Speaker 4: a thirty million dollars. It was a thirty million dollar
- 23:40Speaker 4: environmental nightmare because the grounds contaminated with that's right, soak
- 23:46Speaker 4: those beams with for years, Yeah, soaked into the ground
- 23:51Speaker 4: and from second Avenue back it's soaked into the ground.
- 23:57Speaker 4: And people think they can just drop through that alley
- 24:01Speaker 4: and just set out their trash and then the crows.
- 24:04Speaker 4: It's not the dogs and stuff getting in it.
- 24:07Speaker 5: Well, I wonder if they pay for their I just
- 24:11Speaker 5: sent off payment for the Charleston Sanitary Board, like if
- 24:15Speaker 5: you're getting water, if you if you pay for water,
- 24:18Speaker 5: you get that Charleston Sanitary board. So your garbage is
- 24:21Speaker 5: paid for. Why don't they just put it out there
- 24:23Speaker 5: and have it picked up?
- 24:25Speaker 4: I know, I don't know. I don't know why they
- 24:28Speaker 4: wouldn't just set it out by the street on Fridays.
- 24:32Speaker 4: They just set bags and trash in there and then
- 24:35Speaker 4: crows stare into them and then it's scattered everywhere. Right,
- 24:40Speaker 4: I want to values to values everybody's property up and
- 24:44Speaker 4: down all the way back to Florida on Florida Street back.
- 24:49Speaker 4: If it's just it's terrible, all.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Right, the commissioner, do you want to give me like
- 24:53Speaker 3: twenty second? I mean, just couldn't you want to contact
- 24:55Speaker 3: you want to throw out that number you did before?
- 24:56Speaker 5: This is really well, this is this is I don't
- 24:59Speaker 5: want Yeah, I don't want you to get your hopes
- 25:01Speaker 5: up because it is a city issue. Although I mean,
- 25:04Speaker 5: and she may be able, the mayor may if that,
- 25:07Speaker 5: if it's time for that railroad crossing to go down,
- 25:11Speaker 5: that might be a federal grant if it's still federally
- 25:14Speaker 5: owned there, I know it. One time they were trying
- 25:17Speaker 5: to make it a rails to trail.
- 25:20Speaker 4: The railroad coming out. I've tried to go through them.
- 25:22Speaker 4: They once it's abandoned, the city just I guess this
- 25:27Speaker 4: con sects ownership of it.
- 25:29Speaker 5: No, I'm not sure that's fully the case, because we're
- 25:32Speaker 5: trying to get some abandoned railroad. Maybe they still it's
- 25:36Speaker 5: not abandoned, they still own it. Yeah, that's yeah. I
- 25:39Speaker 5: just I can't answer fully the question. But you already
- 25:44Speaker 5: know the planning guy the city.
- 25:47Speaker 4: I've bothered Amy Amy go so bad, but I'm sure
- 25:51Speaker 4: she's tired.
- 25:52Speaker 5: Here.
- 25:52Speaker 7: My name.
- 25:54Speaker 3: Eddie, Eddie, I got We're way overdue for break. I
- 25:57Speaker 3: appreciate you calling, and we hope that you get a resolution.

- 26:02Speaker 3: take a break, commission. Stick around with me, Okay, we'll

- 28:22Speaker 3: want to let you know that today is the annual
- 28:24Speaker 3: WVU Day of Giving events going on statewide. You can
- 28:27Speaker 3: learn more about them by visiting a Day of Giving
- 28:30Speaker 3: dot WVU DOT E d U. Eric Carnold is with
- 28:32Speaker 3: the Greater Kanawa WU Alumni group, and since UH Commissioner
- 28:37Speaker 3: Tenant knows a little something about WVU and the mountaineers,
- 28:40Speaker 3: I invited her to stick around with us today. So Eric,
- 28:43Speaker 3: you're on with myself and with Commissioner Natalie Tenant.
- 28:47Speaker 2: Uh, Heid, guys, how are you? It's always Natalie molt
- 28:50Speaker 2: you first, you know. Uh, it's always a pleasure to
- 28:56Speaker 2: be on on Dave. And it's a special day. It's
- 29:00Speaker 2: the ninth Day of Giving, and I know, for whatever
- 29:04Speaker 2: reason it's hard to sometimes give or do something like
- 29:08Speaker 2: that of this economy or climate that for today and
- 29:12Speaker 2: it's in camps, even if it's a dollar a month,
- 29:16Speaker 2: and it's a very exciting day to be a mountaineer
- 29:18Speaker 2: or wherever you may be.
- 29:21Speaker 3: And as I said, there's things going on statewide we're
- 29:24Speaker 3: going to cover a little bit later today on Metro
- 29:26Speaker 3: News Midday. We would be remiss if we didn't mention
- 29:29Speaker 3: the original endowment of the late Doug scaff Erica.
- 29:33Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 29:33Speaker 2: Yeah, So I am the president of the Greater Kanala
- 29:37Speaker 2: Alumni Chapter at our scholarship, which will be able to
- 29:41Speaker 2: contribute today. You'll see us on Facebook, Instagram, we'll have
- 29:46Speaker 2: an email blast going out. I think as I'm appearing
- 29:50Speaker 2: right now. But Dutch staff created our endowment that goes
- 29:57Speaker 2: to our scholarship that goes to a student in the
- 30:01Speaker 2: Canal Valley each year, and by choosing the chapter scholarships
- 30:08Speaker 2: in the Canal Valley Alumni chapter membership don't be able
- 30:13Speaker 2: to contribute that. And I do want to say, you know,
- 30:16Speaker 2: and it probably doesn't make me a good I love
- 30:20Speaker 2: my president, but a good third of the university give
- 30:23Speaker 2: some wherever while we appreciate your contributions here, whether it's
- 30:29Speaker 2: today or at any of our events, it's just the
- 30:33Speaker 2: WVU Marshall Baseball game, or other things will be doing
- 30:37Speaker 2: later this summer, anywhere that strikes your heart as it
- 30:42Speaker 2: comes to the blue and gold of WVU, whether it's
- 30:46Speaker 2: the school, Adventist Re or accessibility services or four h
- 30:52Speaker 2: in WVU, today's the day to do it. And again
- 30:56Speaker 2: the key point is it's tax deductible.
- 30:59Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 31:00Speaker 3: Well, I think the bottom line here, Eric is that
- 31:01Speaker 3: you do good stuff, you know, and no matter. You know,
- 31:04Speaker 3: whatever that is for you is fine. But as long
- 31:05Speaker 3: as you're doing good stuff in the spirit of the
- 31:07Speaker 3: day of giving.
- 31:09Speaker 2: Now I will say, if you do contribute to our chapter,
- 31:12Speaker 2: the special we're doing today is for every fifty dollars
- 31:17Speaker 2: you will get a free Marshall baseball ticket, as many
- 31:20Speaker 2: as you want.
- 31:21Speaker 7: And I'll tell you what.
- 31:23Speaker 2: I'm going to be getting those phone calls a month
- 31:25Speaker 2: from now saying do you.
- 31:26Speaker 15: Have any tickets?
- 31:28Speaker 2: And then the highest person that donates to our chapter
- 31:31Speaker 2: will also get to see at the April twentieth Charleston
- 31:36Speaker 2: Mac dinner at our table. And that's about the two
- 31:40Speaker 2: hundred dollars value so the Marshall things.
- 31:45Speaker 5: So go ahead and you're given the Marshall tickets for
- 31:48Speaker 5: the w W Marshall game.
- 31:50Speaker 2: On Venis on May sixth at Gunmar Park for every Yeah,
- 31:56Speaker 2: so for every sixty dollars you donate, you get one ticket.
- 32:00Speaker 2: I'll tell you in yours past. About two weeks out,
- 32:03Speaker 2: I started getting phone calls about, hey, do you have
- 32:06Speaker 2: anything left?
- 32:07Speaker 5: Or I don't so well do you say, do you
- 32:10Speaker 5: have any fifty dollars bill on that you can give
- 32:14Speaker 5: any time? But today I know as a is a
- 32:16Speaker 5: marking that to say, you know.
- 32:21Speaker 2: What, I tell you what WVU and Marshall, if you
- 32:23Speaker 2: didn't pay attention playing a great game last night in Huntington.
- 32:29Speaker 2: WVU won three nothing and ended on a double play.
- 32:32Speaker 2: But the atmosphere between the two programs as best as
- 32:37Speaker 2: I've ever seen it. And that'll be a great event
- 32:40Speaker 2: on May fifth at Gomart Park.
- 32:43Speaker 3: All right, hey, Eric, I appreciate you working with us
- 32:46Speaker 3: today again. Give us the information where people can find
- 32:49Speaker 3: out more about the Day of Giving with WVU.
- 32:53Speaker 2: Yeah, it's Day of Giving dot WVU, dot e edu.
- 32:58Speaker 2: You also see on Facebook, Instagram, eggs, all these things.
- 33:02Speaker 2: And then if anyone wants to do they directly or
- 33:04Speaker 2: can't figure out my cell phone is three oh four
- 33:08Speaker 2: four one five four three one, or just google Eric Cardinals.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I'm sure you'll find me really good stuff.
- 33:15Speaker 3: You're not hard to find, my friend, You're not hard
- 33:17Speaker 3: to find, Eric Carnold. I appreciate you being here. Thanks
- 33:21Speaker 3: a lot. We'll talk soon, see y'all. All right, twenty
- 33:24Speaker 3: minutes away from ten, I want to take a break.
- 33:26Speaker 3: You're gonna stick around a little bit, yes, all right,

- 36:58Speaker 5: Better this stuff, I didn't If I didn't know, And
- 37:00Speaker 5: I can tell you how it started at Channel twelve,
- 37:05Speaker 5: oh you know, I mean back in the early nineties
- 37:10Speaker 5: and we had the morning you know how you have
- 37:13Speaker 5: the morning show like half then it was only a
- 37:15Speaker 5: half hour. Then you'd have the cut ins like at
- 37:17Speaker 5: seven twenty five, eight twenty five, well then the eight
- 37:19Speaker 5: fifty five one they decided to have it be five
- 37:24Speaker 5: minutes of interviewing someone from the community. Apple harvest, no
- 37:30Speaker 5: Salem Apple butter Festival, all of these things. And so
- 37:34Speaker 5: when you have to have a conversation on air. You
- 37:36Speaker 5: can do that. Then the next thing I can, I
- 37:39Speaker 5: can I can visually point to what helped me be
- 37:43Speaker 5: a better reporter. It was those things. And then we
- 37:47Speaker 5: were doing a live show from the Mountain State Forest
- 37:51Speaker 5: Festival in Elkins and we had to feel time in
- 37:54Speaker 5: between and they and I had to like if something
- 37:56Speaker 5: had messed up with the coronation. They just kept putting
- 37:59Speaker 5: people in front of me here and I would just
- 38:02Speaker 5: ask them questions that and I learned that the confidence
- 38:05Speaker 5: from doing the little five minute tape things to the
- 38:08Speaker 5: confidence there too. I can interview anybody, and you know
- 38:12Speaker 5: what I'd like to do sometime I don't. I don't
- 38:14Speaker 5: know how you promote it. I'm not a huge I
- 38:17Speaker 5: don't even listen to podcasts, and I know that people do,
- 38:20Speaker 5: but I would like to have podcasts where I don't
- 38:24Speaker 5: know the person and they just sit down and they
- 38:26Speaker 5: give me. You get a few things that you know
- 38:28Speaker 5: about them, and you have to start asking them questions
- 38:30Speaker 5: and you have to feel like.
- 38:32Speaker 3: Breaker type things like we've all gone through things like that.
- 38:35Speaker 3: I know I went through Leadership Quest Virginia and one
- 38:37Speaker 3: of the things that they did was they wanted to promote.
- 38:40Speaker 3: They really wanted the networking of you going out and
- 38:43Speaker 3: meeting people and talking to people that you didn't know
- 38:45Speaker 3: and finding out something about them and then then getting
- 38:49Speaker 3: up and giving a report about that person.
- 38:51Speaker 5: Oh.
- 38:54Speaker 3: Yes, One question I want to ask you, as it
- 38:56Speaker 3: relates to your political career, Okay, whether it's secretary of
- 38:59Speaker 3: State here or whatever. The things that you learned in
- 39:04Speaker 3: the media, you know, being a television reporter and anchor
- 39:07Speaker 3: is as you were when you went to elected office,
- 39:12Speaker 3: either as a candidate or as an office holder. Did
- 39:15Speaker 3: it give you, like a special little insight so you
- 39:17Speaker 3: could say, well, like I know what they're doing. I
- 39:20Speaker 3: mean I would think it would. And the confidence that
- 39:22Speaker 3: it that it gives you, I think I think it
- 39:24Speaker 3: would be helpful.
- 39:25Speaker 5: Yes, it is, especially when you have young reporters and
- 39:30Speaker 5: we're local. We can't deny that we're local. Sometimes this
- 39:33Speaker 5: is a reporter's first stop, whether whether you know north
- 39:37Speaker 5: central West Virginia anyway, Beckley, I just said Clarks because
- 39:40Speaker 5: I was there. But I'd be like, do you need
- 39:41Speaker 5: a white balance? And they'd be like, oh, you know
- 39:45Speaker 5: about white balance. But I'll also say that early on,
- 39:50Speaker 5: I'm a terrible. I was a terrible interview e TV.
- 39:54Speaker 5: People you would think would be a radio people would
- 39:56Speaker 5: be good. No terrible, no terrible.
- 39:58Speaker 3: They are well because what happens is is we are
- 40:02Speaker 3: used to being the one asking the questions, and a
- 40:05Speaker 3: lot of times we're not comfortable with being on the
- 40:07Speaker 3: other end. I sometimes they'll bring me in on talk
- 40:10Speaker 3: line or something, and if I don't know what the
- 40:11Speaker 3: questions are going to be. I'm not saying I can't
- 40:14Speaker 3: do it. It's just that it's different. It's totally. It's totally.
- 40:18Speaker 3: And when I've done interviews with different people about my career,
- 40:21Speaker 3: it's like, as somebody who loves themselves like I do,
- 40:24Speaker 3: it's sometimes it's hard to talk.
- 40:25Speaker 5: About yourself exactly well, I love myself and it's easy
- 40:29Speaker 5: to talk about me. I mean only because I do
- 40:32Speaker 5: the same thing to me that I do to other people.
- 40:37Speaker 5: Like I'm going to give you like you would have
- 40:39Speaker 5: never known. I knew I've needed to text you forever
- 40:42Speaker 5: about Bert Allen. And that's just like, like, isn't that
- 40:48Speaker 5: so interesting that my mother does this? And how would
- 40:52Speaker 5: you do this? And the time period and you know,
- 40:54Speaker 5: she was sixteen years old and so that's how. That's
- 40:57Speaker 5: why I like to talk to people that I don't know,
- 41:00Speaker 5: and I can dig into something that's.
- 41:03Speaker 3: Everybody is fascinating. And I mean, here's the way I
- 41:05Speaker 3: have always looked at it. I don't care whether you're
- 41:08Speaker 3: you know, the greatest running back that ever played the game,
- 41:11Speaker 3: or whether you served ice cream for forty years in Iowa.
- 41:14Speaker 3: Everybody's got a story, yes, I mean everybody. And sometimes
- 41:17Speaker 3: those stories are a lot more interesting, right, I mean
- 41:19Speaker 3: to be honest with you, because their stories haven't been
- 41:22Speaker 3: told a thousand times.
- 41:24Speaker 5: Yes, and you want it like everybody knows. I was
- 41:26Speaker 5: the Mountaineer. I mean, I'm still crying over the women's game.
- 41:29Speaker 3: I was there about that.
- 41:31Speaker 5: Actually, what was I going to say? Well, okay, go ahead,
- 41:36Speaker 5: let me.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Knock got a couple of texts here, Okay, all right,
- 41:39Speaker 3: hold on, I've already lost it here, Tex says hey.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Dave went to the WVU women's basketball tournament games this
- 41:45Speaker 3: weekend and was kind of disappointed that the response for
- 41:47Speaker 3: opposing player introductions have changed. Fun question for Natalie, can
- 41:51Speaker 3: she remember the five phrases from when we went to school?
- 41:55Speaker 15: There?
- 41:55Speaker 3: For other teams, I will include them so what's the
- 41:58Speaker 3: big deal Eggs?
- 42:02Speaker 5: And yeah, wait a minute, I was late anyway, I mean, okay,
- 42:13Speaker 5: I was late, so I wanted to so be early.
- 42:15Speaker 5: I had gone to Mineral County and spoke at Frankfort
- 42:18Speaker 5: and Kaiser High School, which is another thing I can
- 42:20Speaker 5: talk about. These young women at Kaiser started the Tenant
- 42:24Speaker 5: Society and they named it after me because their teacher
- 42:28Speaker 5: had told them about me. That's a whole other story.
- 42:30Speaker 5: So anyway, I had to come back from Kaiser on
- 42:32Speaker 5: the interstate and then had to stop and do you know,
- 42:35Speaker 5: zoom is great, but then you you don't get early
- 42:37Speaker 5: to the game. So I did not hear the introduction. However,
- 42:41Speaker 5: during the game, you know, and and NCAA had all
- 42:44Speaker 5: these different regulations and they had to be nice to
- 42:46Speaker 5: Kentucky and you know, and do the same thing for them.
- 42:49Speaker 5: They played Sweet Caroline and it was like you knew it.
- 42:53Speaker 5: We're like on the edge of the seat, and I
- 42:54Speaker 5: said to my brother, did we pick this song? They
- 42:57Speaker 5: must allow us to pick some songs. And then it
- 43:00Speaker 5: just blew up so that one. So I don't know
- 43:04Speaker 5: what the introduction was like, and I don't know what
- 43:06Speaker 5: else they said, And I liked it, but I do
- 43:11Speaker 5: remember those maybe maybe they.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Mean okay, I don't know. Texas. Completely off topic, was
- 43:17Speaker 3: wondering how Delaney is doing these days. Many of us
- 43:20Speaker 3: remember when she was born. While you were WCCHS television
- 43:23Speaker 3: and medical issues, you had praying all as well, have
- 43:25Speaker 3: a great day.
- 43:27Speaker 5: Oh, thank you so much. Her birthday was just on Saturday,
- 43:31Speaker 5: March twenty first. That's why I didn't go to the
- 43:33Speaker 5: first round of the WVU Women's game. She turned twenty
- 43:37Speaker 5: four years old. And Dave, you were Logan, I mean
- 43:41Speaker 5: Logan or Huntington or somewhere twenty four years ago. And
- 43:45Speaker 5: you know, people saw me get bigger and bigger on
- 43:47Speaker 5: the morning show, and they.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Saw me do the same thing.
- 43:51Speaker 1: Now they see me now.
- 43:53Speaker 5: I can't even fit in my clothes. And that's another
- 43:56Speaker 5: story too. And when they knew I was going to
- 44:01Speaker 5: go the next day on the twenty first of March
- 44:03Speaker 5: and be induced, and the next thing that came that
- 44:05Speaker 5: they heard was she had been rushed to Pittsburgh Children's
- 44:08Speaker 5: Hospital because of a heart defect and she had open
- 44:12Speaker 5: heart surgery at a week later. And there are people
- 44:14Speaker 5: who say, when I heard that Natalie, I fell on
- 44:16Speaker 5: my knees and I started praying, and that's what I
- 44:19Speaker 5: ask every time. So thank you to that texter who
- 44:22Speaker 5: says I'm praying for Keep praying for her and watch
- 44:26Speaker 5: her too. This is mother. You know, I'm still tied
- 44:30Speaker 5: with WCCHS and I still go over there and I
- 44:33Speaker 5: still love WCCHS. But Delaney is on wowk Now and
- 44:37Speaker 5: she was a nighttime reporter and actually last night she
- 44:40Speaker 5: went lit like she was having a rough day, like
- 44:43Speaker 5: they didn't do this at the Putnam Commission. And then
- 44:45Speaker 5: then she gets this text like there's a barricade at
- 44:48Speaker 5: a they've shut down a neighborhood or in Barbersville. And
- 44:52Speaker 5: then it's hard for me to stay awake until eleven o'clock.
- 44:56Speaker 5: But somehow I was listening to something. I turned around like, oh,
- 44:58Speaker 5: it's eleven o'clock and she was lot. So continue the
- 45:02Speaker 5: prayers for her, for her heart.
- 45:05Speaker 11: It.
- 45:06Speaker 5: I mean, I think we tell people this, she's got
- 45:08Speaker 5: a little leakage that you know, we have never allowed
- 45:12Speaker 5: her to use it as an excuse or anything, and
- 45:15Speaker 5: she has used that experience for her platform and community service.
- 45:20Speaker 5: Scarred but stronger because she's competing in Miss West Virginia again.
- 45:24Speaker 5: She's miss Capital City right now. And what she has
- 45:27Speaker 5: done is she has given a sorority. Sister of mine
- 45:32Speaker 5: when we were in Pittsburgh sent her a stuffed little
- 45:35Speaker 5: lion that we kept by her bed, and now Delaney
- 45:39Speaker 5: gives out lions to children or families who have going
- 45:44Speaker 5: or going through heart surgeries or you know, she's expanding
- 45:48Speaker 5: it for good heart care that we can't. We talk
- 45:51Speaker 5: about no candy, let's have fruits and vegetables. But that
- 45:55Speaker 5: is her platform because she has this scar that she's
- 45:57Speaker 5: always had since being a week old, and she doesn't
- 46:01Speaker 5: want anybody else to feel the way that she felt
- 46:04Speaker 5: when she was little. And now she tells me all
- 46:06Speaker 5: these things that I didn't really know as as she
- 46:10Speaker 5: was growing up, how self conscious she was, how embarrassed
- 46:14Speaker 5: sometimes that she was about it. And I do remember
- 46:18Speaker 5: her asking, Eric, do you have it? Does everybody have
- 46:23Speaker 5: a scar? She would ask one of us, and we're
- 46:25Speaker 5: like no, and hers has two holes and it looks
- 46:29Speaker 5: like and we sell her when you look at it,
- 46:30Speaker 5: it's just God. It's God smiling back at you, and
- 46:33Speaker 5: that's the way it looks at So that's that's how
- 46:35Speaker 5: Delaney's doing and I would you know, I was going
- 46:38Speaker 5: to ask you later on if she could come on
- 46:40Speaker 5: and be interviewed and you can talk about the scholarship partner.
- 46:44Speaker 3: One thing people will understand with me after doing this

- 49:06Speaker 2: I could?
- 49:06Speaker 3: You can fake it, you know what.
- 49:09Speaker 5: And here's the thing. Like work in the morning shift,
- 49:12Speaker 5: you know, getting up at two thirty in the morning
- 49:14Speaker 5: during the show, and it's like people who work odd hours,
- 49:17Speaker 5: there's like, you know, they have more weight gain, they
- 49:19Speaker 5: have terrible sleep, obviously, all of these things that are terrible.
- 49:22Speaker 5: And then someone fills in for you and they're like,
- 49:26Speaker 5: it is easy. I so much fun doing that. It's like,
- 49:29Speaker 5: please do it for two weeks and ago instead of one.
- 49:32Speaker 3: And when you're in radio or television, also do it
- 49:34Speaker 3: on Christmas day. Also do it I don't have kids,
- 49:37Speaker 3: but do it on your kid's birthday. Also do it
- 49:39Speaker 3: on Thanksgiving, do it on you know, there's no such
- 49:42Speaker 3: thing as a snow day.
- 49:42Speaker 4: You know, so, so do it so.
- 49:45Speaker 3: But but I mean again, that's what we do here.
- 49:48Speaker 3: And I've said this for I've been doing this for
- 49:49Speaker 3: thirty eight years. It is still the greatest job in
- 49:51Speaker 3: the world. And it's and it's fun. I mean we
- 49:54Speaker 3: generally and when you work for a good company, uh,
- 49:57Speaker 3: sucking up to the bosses, When you work to it
- 49:59Speaker 3: for a good company, it makes it, It makes it
