- 2:04SPEAKER_02: Come on, man.
- 2:05SPEAKER_02: What a tissue at, man.
- 2:06SPEAKER_02: What the tissue with the tissue, man?
- 2:07SPEAKER_03: No, we're gonna get your flowers, bro.
- 2:09SPEAKER_02: We're gonna I don't know how long I know you now.
- 2:12SPEAKER_02: I mean, maybe maybe close to a decade if not.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:15SPEAKER_02: But it but if if you know, even before then, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:20SPEAKER_02: You've always been somebody that's been here creating art and representing what it means to really embody yourself and be yourself.
- 2:28SPEAKER_02: And you the same.
- 2:29SPEAKER_02: I done seen you with so many sets.
- 2:30SPEAKER_02: That's saying a lot.
- 2:31SPEAKER_02: You know, you wouldn't you wouldn't think that that was a compliment, but it is like yeah, you the same no matter what setting I see you in, bro.
- 2:38SPEAKER_02: I ain't never seen you different.
- 2:40SPEAKER_02: I ain't never seen you not meet somebody with love.
- 2:43SPEAKER_02: Like you done always been there, bro.
- 2:44SPEAKER_02: And that that says a lot.
- 2:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: I appreciate that.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: That comes from my granny, man.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: I can't I can't take credit for that.
- 2:49SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get into it, we're gonna get into it.
- 2:51SPEAKER_02: We're gonna get into it.
- 2:53SPEAKER_02: So I'm gonna read your bio.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 2:55SPEAKER_00: So this this this is what the streets are saying.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Oh, okay.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm listening.
- 3:00SPEAKER_02: This is what the streets say.
- 3:02SPEAKER_02: It says, today's guest is a cornerstone of Southern entertainment.
- 3:07SPEAKER_02: Darrell Spires, known to millions as King Pimpin, has done more than just create content.
- 3:12SPEAKER_02: He has shaped a culture.
- 3:13SPEAKER_02: As a musician, director, writer, and actor, he's spent his career proving that the greatest value you can bring to any room is simply being yourself.
- 3:21SPEAKER_02: Pimp is the definition of life with a party, but his impact goes deeper than laughter.
- 3:25SPEAKER_02: He's built a massive media empire through the Dirt Roan King brand, leading with love, staying rooted in the A70, and making sure everyone feels invited to the movement.
- 3:34SPEAKER_02: From viral cinematography to regional anthems, he has turned authentic Southern living into a national standard.
- 3:40SPEAKER_02: He's a legend who proves that when you move with heart and your own narrative, you don't just build a following, you build a family.
- 3:47SPEAKER_02: Ladies and gentlemen, King Pimp.
- 3:50SPEAKER_00: Yo.
- 3:51SPEAKER_00: Man, hold on.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: Woo! Okay.
- 3:55SPEAKER_00: That's a ladies and gentlemen, King Pimp.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: That is crazy.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: Man, that's man.
- 3:59SPEAKER_00: You finna make me turn on my emotional side.
- 4:03SPEAKER_00: That's beautiful.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: Uh man, I man.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I know a lot of people say it, man, but like through God, man, anything is possible.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: So man, I man, it's just a blessing for me to be here.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: It's a blessing for me to just keep this engine going, man, because it's, you know, it's tough out here, man.
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: It's tough.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: But, you know, you know, with God on my side, man, I, you know, he he's the engineer.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: He keeps everything.
- 4:29SPEAKER_00: Like, he's the person that's, you know, man, sometimes like when I'm creating, it's not me, man.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: It's it's it's like, it's not, it's not me.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm there, but it's him.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Like he's moving, like he, he, he's moving my pin, he's moving my brain.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 4:47SPEAKER_00: So like everything is different now.
- 4:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 4:50SPEAKER_00: Everything like uh, you know, uh a lot of stuff that I was doing that wasn't of him.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: And you know, I I kind of like kind of like scaling back from that.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Kind of like scaling back from that unless it's all about that now.
- 5:03SPEAKER_02: You know what I mean?
- 5:04SPEAKER_02: You know, I I think that's profound because that's something that I say often.
- 5:09SPEAKER_02: Like I have verses that I can remember, I was just there.
- 5:14SPEAKER_03: And and he just moves it.
- 5:16SPEAKER_03: Yeah, he just moves it.
- 5:17SPEAKER_03: I was just moving, yeah.
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: You know what?
- 5:18SPEAKER_02: I was just a bystander like everybody else.
- 5:20SPEAKER_02: You know, that just was the vessel that it came through.
- 5:23SPEAKER_02: But I have no, I can't, I I can't even say I co-wrote it.
- 5:26SPEAKER_02: Like every single word was something.
- 5:28SPEAKER_02: So, man, I know that you know you know exactly what I'm saying.
- 5:32SPEAKER_00: I know exactly what you're saying.
- 5:33SPEAKER_00: So uh he's still working over now.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: Don't give me a hear me wrong.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: Man, I'm trying to um the girls in the booty shake it, man.
- 5:41SPEAKER_03: That's that's we're gonna get to that.
- 5:45SPEAKER_03: I don't want to all folks think I'm holier than thou, dude.
- 5:48SPEAKER_03: Like, you know, I'm still I'm still me.
- 5:51SPEAKER_03: So this one You know what I mean.
- 5:53SPEAKER_02: So look, look, look.
- 5:54SPEAKER_02: When when you hear that bio, man, and yeah, and that was that was an abbreviated bio.
- 5:58SPEAKER_02: Like they could have gone on and on and on.
- 6:00SPEAKER_02: Like, what what stands out to you?
- 6:02SPEAKER_02: You know, I say director, writer, you know, I'm saying musician, you've been in front of the camera, actor.
- 6:06SPEAKER_02: Like, there's so many things in entertainment.
- 6:09SPEAKER_02: That's why I didn't want to, you know, single it down to rapper, because a rapper is a great thing.
- 6:14SPEAKER_02: No, no, no, no, yeah.
- 6:15SPEAKER_00: But there's so many other things that are I don't consider myself a rapper.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: I'm I'm more musician is the thing that I'm most I'm most proud of.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Because like, man, I think a lot of man, a lot of a lot of rappers and a lot of um a lot of entertainers, man, I think they tone deaf.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: I don't think that they, I don't think that they when they go on the booth and they record, because you know, recording is a totally different thing from from writing.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: It's a totally different.
- 6:45SPEAKER_00: So like, man, I think I feel like, and man, auto-tuned and just anyway.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: But so like when you go in there, man, you gotta, like, you gotta, man, it's you gotta, your voice is an instrument.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 6:57SPEAKER_00: You gotta blend it in.
- 6:58SPEAKER_00: Like, you gotta beat, you gotta blend it in with the like you, you know, instead of going rap like, uh, you gotta, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:05SPEAKER_00: You gotta blend.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: And I I just don't think most people, it's a lot of great lyricists, a lot of people that say a lot of different stuff, a lot of people that got great delivery and everything, but they that it don't sound good coming to your ear.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah what I'm saying, and that that throws 90% of everybody off.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: That's right.
- 7:22SPEAKER_02: You don't even care about what you're saying because of how it sounds.
- 7:26SPEAKER_00: Because of how it comes through.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: Like if it man, initially, what does it sound?
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: Like the first 10 seconds is what people, you know what I'm saying?
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Facts.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: If you can't make it past that, but yeah, to answer your question, me musician, man, because I, you know, my uh from my dad, you know, Commodores, all of that, you know, all of that 70s, uh, you know, just uh Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gay, Michael Jackson, he was the first one that I kind of like gravitated towards.
- 7:58SPEAKER_00: But I remember all those sounds, man, and all those, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Like back when, you know, they play actual instruments, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:04SPEAKER_00: Like all that stuff is embedded in my, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:06SPEAKER_00: So when I go in there, I'm listening for man.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: And even though I don't even, I don't really know music personally, like, you know, music notes, right?
- 8:15SPEAKER_00: I can hear when something's off.
- 8:16SPEAKER_00: You know, it's like, yeah, man, that's yeah, yeah.
- 8:19SPEAKER_00: So that a musician is what makes me most pro, you know what I'm saying?
- 8:23SPEAKER_00: Like when you say that, that means that that makes me know.
- 8:27SPEAKER_03: I am a musician.
- 8:28SPEAKER_03: Yeah, like that's me.
- 8:29SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 8:30SPEAKER_00: Even though I can't play nothing.
- 8:32SPEAKER_02: No, that's real.
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 8:33SPEAKER_02: That's real, though.
- 8:34SPEAKER_02: That's real.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: For sure.
- 8:35SPEAKER_02: I think I think some of the most profound people in music history didn't have a single note that they could play.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: I think so.
- 8:41SPEAKER_02: But how much value is it in knowing what sounds good?
- 8:45SPEAKER_02: Like, it's somebody's job to say, hey, that's it.
- 8:48SPEAKER_02: Or that's not it.
- 8:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, that's it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_02: They can't write a bar, they can't, they just know, like, oh, yep, that's it.
- 8:54SPEAKER_00: That's one of the gifts that God gave me.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Like, I can sit in there with any engineer, any, you know, I can just listen.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: I can hold on.
- 9:00SPEAKER_00: Go back, go back.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I hear that.
- 9:02SPEAKER_03: You don't know what they play, you don't know what they did, but that that was it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 9:06SPEAKER_00: So I mean, I mean, I take pride in that.
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 9:08SPEAKER_00: I take pride in it.
- 9:09SPEAKER_00: I'm grateful for for for that gift, you know.
- 9:12SPEAKER_02: Man, give me, give me all the way back, as far as you want to take me upbringing.
- 9:17SPEAKER_02: Like, who who was who was five-year-old Pimp?
- 9:20SPEAKER_02: What'd you think?
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: Where'd you come from?
- 9:21SPEAKER_02: What'd you think you'd be doing?
- 9:23SPEAKER_02: Like, walk us through the story.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: A lot of people don't know.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: I was born actually in Oakland, California.
- 9:28SPEAKER_00: Uh, my parents met my my mother and my grandmother and them, they all from Marvel.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 9:33SPEAKER_00: But they, so they moved to California.
- 9:35SPEAKER_00: Um, my grandfather got sick and he passed away in Marvel.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: So my grandmother, she wanted a new start.
- 9:42SPEAKER_00: So she moved to, she moved to uh Oakland, California, man.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: And so that's where my my mother went to middle school.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: And my mother, my auntie, they went to middle school and uh high school in Oakland, California.
- 9:55SPEAKER_02: What's the tie?
- 9:56SPEAKER_02: Any family out there or?
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: Uh yeah, so my grandmother's my grand, uh, my grandmother's sister and them had moved from Marvel to move out there.
- 10:03SPEAKER_00: So, you know, they get now, you know how it is.
- 10:05SPEAKER_00: They like, come on, you know what I'm saying?
- 10:06SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: So we set up shopping at Oakland.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: That's where my family, that's where, you know, so um my parents, uh, my par my father's from Portland, Portland, Oregon.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: His parents are from Mississippi, and the same thing happened.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: They moved to, you know, they moved to Portland like that.
- 10:22SPEAKER_00: So they moved, they um, they met San Francisco State in um in California, and you know, uh, they broke up and and and my mother moved to Arkansas.
- 10:35SPEAKER_00: Uh she moved to Pine Bluff first.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Um, so I spent my first few uh my elementary years and like right up until like the sixth grade.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Shout out to the bluff.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the bluff.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: Oh man, I got so much love for the blue.
- 10:48SPEAKER_04: It's a lot of love.
- 10:50SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of love.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: I got a little love for Pine Bluff, man.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Shout of Boss, man.
- 10:54SPEAKER_00: But um man, so after that, about sixth grade, like this the second semester, I think, in the sixth grade, I moved to Marvel.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: And that's where everything just takes us there.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: What do you mean?
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: It's just like, man, the atmosphere there, like the people there, man, it's so hard to explain.
- 11:17SPEAKER_00: You just gotta be like you gotta go down there.
- 11:20SPEAKER_00: You love Marvel, man.
- 11:21SPEAKER_00: Man, bro, that's the it that's that's everything.
- 11:24SPEAKER_00: Like, I done been a lot of places, bro, but Marvel is what made me.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: Like just the people around the town, the atmosphere, the the um, the camaraderie with the you know, with the men and the and and and and just the older people, man.
- 11:39SPEAKER_00: Like, man, it's just bro, it's it's it's everything to me, bro.
- 11:43SPEAKER_00: Like Marvel is man, when I when I think about it, when I think about it, it just give me, it just give me goosebumps.
- 11:51SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 11:52SPEAKER_00: He said I love, I love, I love everything about it.
- 11:54SPEAKER_00: I love how it kind of molded me.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: Like my basketball coach, he just was like real strict on us, he's real country.
- 12:01SPEAKER_00: He'll say anything at any time.
- 12:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's the whoop, he used to whoop on us and practice.
- 12:06SPEAKER_00: He did all kinds of stuff, you know, that discipline, man, all of that.
- 12:09SPEAKER_00: And you know, back then I didn't really understand it.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: I really didn't, I really didn't, me and him was at odds all the time, but man, he was trying to instill in us like this is the work, like he used to have this thing he used to say about excuses.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: You look in the mirror and you'll find an alibi and excuse for living.
- 12:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: And now, like me being in the workforce and just me being in music and all that kind of stuff, like man, people make excuses all the time.
- 12:36SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:37SPEAKER_00: He was just getting us ready, but you know what I mean.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: I forgot that.
- 12:41SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 12:42SPEAKER_00: Like, bro, you wanna uh you want to feel something soft, go to the bathroom when you're getting ready to boo-boo and put your head back there.
- 12:49SPEAKER_00: Like, that's the only thing you should feel soft.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: You know, you know what I'm saying?
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: That like he he bro, he was like, like some of the sayings that he said that he said, he it stayed with me.
- 12:59SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: And just like um, man, just always on us.
- 13:04SPEAKER_00: Like before basketball games, we wasn't able to, like the night before, he would ride around town to make sure that we wasn't on the street.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 13:12SPEAKER_00: Like, right before the games, we couldn't go nowhere.
- 13:14SPEAKER_00: Like we had to stay there.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Like, if our parents, like they want to bring us food, they had to bring it there.
- 13:19SPEAKER_00: We had to go to sleep there and wake up, like, like you know what I'm saying?
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah, locked in.
- 13:24SPEAKER_00: Like, bro, it was serious.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: It was serious.
- 13:26SPEAKER_00: So, like, man, just that whole, not just, bro, not just basketball, just like the people there, man, just as like the saying, some of that, like my homeboy Skid G, man.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: He, man, Skid G got so many, like so many skidisms.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: That's what I call them.
- 13:41SPEAKER_00: Like, like, man, bro, like Marvel just the it's the it's a unique place, bro.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: It's unique, and any anywhere that you go and you see a Marvel person, you're gonna see people cling to them.
- 13:52SPEAKER_00: People go, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:53SPEAKER_00: Because that's just how it I'm I mean, we just go places and we ourselves.
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 13:57SPEAKER_00: It's just how it is, you know what I'm saying?
- 13:59SPEAKER_00: So shout out to the town, man.
- 14:01SPEAKER_02: Shout out to Marvel, bro.
- 14:02SPEAKER_02: Like, shout out to the town.
- 14:03SPEAKER_02: So look, I think I don't know if I said this while we was recording or before, but I think one of the greatest compliments you could give somebody now is like you a real person.
- 14:11SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 14:12SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 14:13SPEAKER_02: You authentic, you genuine.
- 14:14SPEAKER_02: You you are, you know, you feel like you present, you tangible, like you don't never cast a shifting shadow.
- 14:22SPEAKER_02: Would you say that came from Marvel?
- 14:23SPEAKER_00: Like what came from Marvel, it came from my grandmother.
- 14:26SPEAKER_00: Man, my grandmother was like, she was like the realest person ever.
- 14:30SPEAKER_00: She was like, uh, and she was just like, um, man, even even through like um towards the end of her life, like she had dementia, man.
- 14:39SPEAKER_00: And she was, she struggled with that, but man, she she did it with grace.
- 14:43SPEAKER_00: She did it with uh, you know, and I man, I I keep those memories with me, man.
- 14:48SPEAKER_00: Uh she always just just had me be myself be yourself.
- 14:52SPEAKER_00: Don't, you know, don't you don't have to switch up nothing.
- 14:56SPEAKER_00: Just, you know, when you go somewhere, you do something like dignified.
- 15:01SPEAKER_00: Like, I I I I grew up all my all my like like my I can't say that I got it out the mud.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: I can't I I can't say that, bro.
- 15:08SPEAKER_00: My my parents, my um, my parents are college graduates.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: My mother, my father, my my my mother and my auntie, my sister, they all uh they got masters in education.
- 15:22SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 15:23SPEAKER_00: My father is like a uh black arts and in and theater, black studies.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: He got into it, you know what I mean?
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: You know, so I mean I I didn't grow up like I grew up like dignified.
- 15:35SPEAKER_00: I I speak, I don't just speak like hood vernacular, like I speak, you know, I speak.
- 15:40SPEAKER_00: So I I mean I'm I'm myself.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 15:43SPEAKER_00: I can't, I I'm not a you know, I didn't, I can't, I ain't got one of them stories.
- 15:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: He got one of them, you know, I ain't got one of those stories.
- 15:51SPEAKER_00: I gotta, you know, um, and and like and people like me, they'll tell you, like, it's still a struggle.
- 15:57SPEAKER_00: It's still like it's it's a different struggle.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: But that's what, like, man, I be telling artists all the time, like, you don't have to paint a picture that's not yours.
- 16:04SPEAKER_00: Like, people will gravitate to your picture.
- 16:06SPEAKER_00: You just gotta paint it in a certain way.
- 16:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: You gotta paint it to a certain way.
- 16:10SPEAKER_00: Like, you don't, you don't have to be another person.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: Like, I've I always been myself, bro, and that like God and my granny, man.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: That's that's why.
- 16:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: I think love that.
- 16:23SPEAKER_02: Like that, you know what I'm saying?
- 16:25SPEAKER_02: Let me just say, love that, bro.
- 16:26SPEAKER_02: Cause my because people who know me know my grandma's my biggest influence.
- 16:29SPEAKER_02: Like my bar like bar none.
- 16:32SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 16:33SPEAKER_02: Love my mama, shout out to my mom.
- 16:35SPEAKER_02: Like you said, my aunts, my uncles, like, bro, they they did a really good job.
- 16:38SPEAKER_02: It's similar.
- 16:39SPEAKER_02: You know, my mom has some college.
- 16:42SPEAKER_02: Um, I don't know if she finished, but you know, and then my pops is military, but but they raised us a certain way.
- 16:48SPEAKER_02: Annunciate, articulate your words.
- 16:49SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 16:50SPEAKER_02: And so you grow up, oh, you talk funny, especially in you know what I'm saying, the South Arkansas, like, oh, you talk funny, or what's wrong with you?
- 16:56SPEAKER_02: But it's like, I just speak like this, you know.
- 16:59SPEAKER_02: But same thing, man, when I was young, my grandmother used to always tell me, like, you're not gonna fit in.
- 17:04SPEAKER_02: And that's okay.
- 17:05SPEAKER_02: Like, don't try to be yourself, be the person that God made you to be, and then you and live, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:11SPEAKER_02: And so I see some of those through lines in your story as well.
- 17:15SPEAKER_02: I said uh yesterday, I was thinking about how you talk about art and music, and it's like, man, you just be yourself, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:23SPEAKER_02: Yesterday I said, I guess the only prerequisite for art is that it's true.
- 17:28SPEAKER_02: Like, that's the only thing that matters in art, is that you know what I'm saying?
- 17:31SPEAKER_02: So, like if you're a rapper and you rap in this struggle story, but you're not from the struggle, like at some point it's not art because it's not true.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: And it's gonna come through.
- 17:38SPEAKER_00: It's gonna come like like, man, honesty comes through.
- 17:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, some people can fool you for a minute, but eventually that honesty is gonna come.
- 17:46SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, you you can rap about the uh I can I don't want to say that I can just tell, but like most of the time I could just be like You can, yeah.
- 17:55SPEAKER_00: You know, you know what I'm saying?
- 17:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, because it's it don't sound authentic, yeah.
- 18:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and my ear got like a authentic.
- 18:05SPEAKER_02: I mean, I I kind of I kind of pride myself on that too.
- 18:08SPEAKER_02: It's like, but I I agree with you.
- 18:09SPEAKER_02: I don't know if if maybe, yes, you got years of experience with art in general.
- 18:14SPEAKER_02: So like when somebody, even if it's a movie, like you could tell if that actor believed them lines.
- 18:19SPEAKER_02: Like on the Titanic when Warren's gonna go, like you could tell, bro, like hurt.
- 18:24SPEAKER_02: Like, yeah, yeah.
- 18:25SPEAKER_02: Or same with music, like, you know, now we feel like music is so transactional, but like, bro, and when the Commodores were singing, and you know what I'm saying, when when Michael Jackson is singing and Prince is saying, you know, whatever, like you could tell they felt those words.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 18:40SPEAKER_02: And so now, you know, it's it's my question is like, how do we continue to bring that that authenticity to the art?
- 18:46SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 18:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man, we you you just like man, it all starts with the artist.
- 18:54SPEAKER_00: It all starts with the artist, and like, man, are you an authentic person?
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: Like, are you uh are you an authentic person?
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Uh and I'm not gonna I can't guarantee you that you being authentic is gonna make you a million dollars.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 19:11SPEAKER_00: It's gonna make you, you know, I gonna, you know, it's gonna get you to a certain point, especially now how how music is now.
- 19:17SPEAKER_00: Like you just never know.
- 19:19SPEAKER_00: But what I will say is that you, you know, you'll build a career that you're proud of.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 19:26SPEAKER_00: Like, man, I don't like Say that again, that ain't that being authentic, that'll get you.
- 19:33SPEAKER_00: Well, one thing it will get you is a career that you're proud of, bro.
- 19:36SPEAKER_00: Because I I bro I I used to get so frustrated, bro, because I used to look at stuff and I just just be like, man, you know, how?
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Like, how?
- 19:49SPEAKER_00: And that not hating is just like, man, I'm over here being myself and being authentic, and these people is like, man, how?
- 19:55SPEAKER_00: How is like, how is it resonating with people?
- 19:59SPEAKER_00: How does it resonate with people?
- 20:01SPEAKER_00: And bro, at the end of the day, I'm so proud of what I've done.
- 20:08SPEAKER_00: And and that's not and that's humbly speaking.
- 20:10SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm I'm I'm but I'm but I'm proud to, you know, I'm proud to like when I when I go to YouTube and I show people like my, you know, I was looking at my videos, you know.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: I show I was looking at it today.
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 20:23SPEAKER_00: Like views on there.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: I'm proud, yeah.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: I'm proud, like I'm proud, man.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: And I'm like um uh live soul is one of the guys that helped me find my hell mute.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you yeah, you gotta do it.
- 20:34SPEAKER_00: I wanna go there, bro.
- 20:35SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, keep keep going, but I I want to go there.
- 20:39SPEAKER_00: Like, I always had like a like um I've worked with other video videographers before.
- 20:46SPEAKER_00: I mean, I've worked with several.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 20:48SPEAKER_00: But when I got to Live Souls, it was it was different, bro.
- 20:52SPEAKER_00: It was um he saw me, and he was like, you know, at first I was, you know, I was gonna try to play cocky with him.
- 21:00SPEAKER_00: Cause he was, he was, because he already was like a like, he was already like as as an artist, he was already kind of, you know.
- 21:06SPEAKER_00: So he was like, hey man, like, I ain't gonna lie, man, you got some you got some dope music.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: I was like, yeah, nigga, I know.
- 21:13SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 21:14SPEAKER_00: So I I mean, but that was just me being, you know, you know, but but he really worked with me, man, and he really helped me find uh image-wise, like image-wise, like what was me, and what was you know, what was not like it was it, it wasn't too flashy, it wasn't too, it was me.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: It was like me being a goofy, you know, me being goofy, me.
- 21:38SPEAKER_00: I might throw on a male wig, but a wig, you know what I'm saying, like a wig or whatever, you know, and and and and turn into this, yeah, you know, turn into this character, turn into this, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:49SPEAKER_00: But that was me.
- 21:50SPEAKER_00: I I mean I he just brought it out of me, you know what I'm saying?
- 21:53SPEAKER_00: And see, uh as far as visuals go, he's an artist, so he knows what looks good and what.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: Doesn't look good, you know, for an artist.
- 22:02SPEAKER_00: So, man, I, you know, uh I'd say the third leg of my career belongs like a lot of the credit belongs to him too, because he helped me find like visually.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: He helped me find, he helped me find what I needed.
- 22:16SPEAKER_00: You know, what did y'all lock in?
- 22:18SPEAKER_00: How long have you been watching?
- 22:19SPEAKER_00: Probably 2019, I think is the first year that uh, and I had already knew.
- 22:24SPEAKER_00: He he didn't now he might try to lie, but he didn't know who I was.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: He didn't know how, and I had been out here longer than him.
- 22:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and um he was on the he, you know, he he been live social for probably 20 years.
- 22:34SPEAKER_00: He'd been he's been doing his thing, like and and like I knew he was.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: You mean literally, like yeah, no, he's been like live social.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's been out here.
- 22:42SPEAKER_00: He's been out here, and he's he probably like probably like 10 years younger than me, maybe a little uh maybe nine or eight or something like that.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: But he's been out here.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Like he's been out here.
- 22:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah, he's been out here doing his thing, man.
- 22:53SPEAKER_00: And he uh uh man, as far as artists that got that sound, got that industry sound, he's one, he's one up.
- 23:02SPEAKER_00: He's one, like he's one of.
- 23:03SPEAKER_00: But um, yeah, man, probably 2019 is when we first locked in.
- 23:08SPEAKER_00: 2019, and so like I was working with another dude, and so like I got a live social video and it went great.
- 23:15SPEAKER_00: And I went back to the other dude one more time, and then after that, it was just it's been live so we we probably got like 45 to 50 videos on YouTube right now.
- 23:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I ain't and that ain't even counting the features, the people that I got to come to him and do that's just my songs, you know what I'm saying?
- 23:33SPEAKER_00: So, yeah.
- 23:35SPEAKER_00: And I want to say that's more than anybody else in the state.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: That's more than anybody else.
- 23:39SPEAKER_00: That's more than anybody else in the state.
- 23:42SPEAKER_00: Um I love it.
- 23:44SPEAKER_00: Man, I can't, everybody always asked, like, man, what's your favorite one?
- 23:46SPEAKER_00: What's up, man?
- 23:47SPEAKER_00: They all my babies.
- 23:48SPEAKER_00: Man, I can't just, I can't like, I like, I like I love them all.
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 23:53SPEAKER_02: Let's go there.
- 23:54SPEAKER_02: I think I think it's two things that you bring up that's important.
- 23:56SPEAKER_02: You talk about visual identity and and and your appearance and how you presenting yourself as being crucial.
- 24:04SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 24:05SPEAKER_02: Talk about how important it is not only to understand what your identity is, but to be able to convey that.
- 24:11SPEAKER_02: Like, what's the relationship between you being able to present yourself in a certain way and connecting with a with an audience?
- 24:18SPEAKER_00: Like so, so black folks, I mean people in general, but black folks mainly, like you could play something in front of them and they'll jam to it, right?
- 24:26SPEAKER_00: But they respond differently when they see it.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: That's a funny.
- 24:29SPEAKER_00: You see what I'm saying?
- 24:30SPEAKER_03: Like when they I know you sounded like that, and like here's something that like it.
- 24:36SPEAKER_00: So that I mean, visual stuff, and and and and uh even coming from a music video guy, music video is not essential now.
- 24:45SPEAKER_00: Like you can do, like I see you doing verticals and doing like doing different stuff, like you, but you gotta have some kind of visual identity, right?
- 24:54SPEAKER_00: Something to identify yourself visually.
- 24:56SPEAKER_00: Gotta have something, you gotta have something.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Like something is not gonna, it ain't gonna like back in the day, maybe, maybe 30 years ago, it would it worked, it would work with people not never seen.
- 25:05SPEAKER_00: You didn't have to have no, yeah.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but now you've got to like you've got to be seen.
- 25:10SPEAKER_00: You gotta, it's no way around it.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 25:12SPEAKER_00: If you ugly, do something.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 25:15SPEAKER_00: Something you're ugly, make yourself cute.
- 25:18SPEAKER_00: Do do something.
- 25:19SPEAKER_00: Like, I mean, if that makes you comfortable, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: But like, I mean, you gotta do something.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:25SPEAKER_00: I don't know what else.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: I don't know what else to tell you.
- 25:27SPEAKER_00: You gotta you gotta get yourself in front of that camera, sir, ma'am.
- 25:31SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, let's talk about it.
- 25:33SPEAKER_02: Yeah I think I think that's a really good point.
- 25:36SPEAKER_02: So when we were coming up, you know what I'm saying?
- 25:39SPEAKER_02: And I know it's an age gap, but like especially when you were coming up, like, bruh, you didn't have to be different.
- 25:45SPEAKER_02: We didn't even have cell phones for real.
- 25:46SPEAKER_02: So, like, you you got what you heard in the car.
- 25:49SPEAKER_02: Yeah, like think about that.
- 25:50SPEAKER_02: That was a lot of people's gateway to certain music, was like your cousin playing something, and you like, hey, what's that on the stereo?
- 25:55SPEAKER_02: Or like you see, you hear some on somebody's CD player, hey, what's that?
- 25:59SPEAKER_02: Well, they ride down in the car and you can't like what is that?
- 26:02SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 26:03SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah.
- 26:04SPEAKER_02: Now most people's entry is a video that they see, yeah.
- 26:07SPEAKER_02: Whether it's the music in the background or you know, so now, like, like you said, as an artist, it is of the utmost importance if you do want to be seen that you put yourself in front of the camera.
- 26:18SPEAKER_02: So for you, that seems to come natural.
- 26:21SPEAKER_02: If does it come natural?
- 26:22SPEAKER_02: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: No, no, yeah.
- 26:24SPEAKER_00: I mean, so okay, I I kind of so with my father, see, my father's in entertainment.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: My father is uh, he got his degree in black studies and uh um theater and stuff, I think.
- 26:37SPEAKER_00: But so but my father is like an entertainment manager.
- 26:40SPEAKER_00: He actually manages um, if you ever seen Friday, uh Uncle Elroy, he's his manager, like he's been his manager for like 25 years.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Like today.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: Like right now.
- 26:48SPEAKER_00: Like I just left from California right now, where he just we we did the Bay Area Black Comedy Competition, the finals, and DC Curry was the host.
- 26:55SPEAKER_00: Are you serious?
- 26:57SPEAKER_00: I swear to God.
- 26:58SPEAKER_00: I swear to God.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: Like we just I just left there in February.
- 27:01SPEAKER_00: We just, yeah.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: So my father's.
- 27:03SPEAKER_02: He was his manager when they were shooting next Friday.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: Man.
- 27:06SPEAKER_00: I was telling my homeboy Derek Keener, who's a comedian from Texas Arcana, Arkansas, he was up to him.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: Shout out to Texas Arkana.
- 27:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: For sure.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: Special place in my heart.
- 27:15SPEAKER_00: I was like, man, and I'm not saying it's to brag, I'm just, I just want to put you in the mindset where I was like at an 11, like I was like 11 or 12 years old, and I was riding around with AJ Johnson, who was Ezel, Faison Love, shout out to Faison Love.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: Shout out to my guy, uh, and Chris Tucker.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: So just imagine, like, bro, just imagine it's like riding around and like I'm watching on TV.
- 27:41SPEAKER_00: You riding around with him.
- 27:43SPEAKER_00: Like, but they wasn't, like at that time, they wasn't, they wasn't, they were just, you know what I'm saying?
- 27:47SPEAKER_00: They was my father actually managed Faison Love at the time.
- 27:52SPEAKER_00: And AJ Johnson was just around uh RIP to him, man.
- 27:57SPEAKER_00: Uh but he was, he, he was around, bro, and they just like, and at the time I didn't, I didn't, like, I didn't know that it like I was just like, man, these niggas are crazy.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: But they was they, bro, and it was just like, I, and I was telling my homeboy Derek, I was like, boy, just imagine just being there with them at 11, just looking at, just looking like look listening to what they, you know what I'm saying?
- 28:17SPEAKER_02: Stuff that they're talking about.
- 28:19SPEAKER_00: I'm saying that to say, like, bro, I've always been around performers.
- 28:22SPEAKER_00: Like, I've always been around like uh comedians, I've always been around, so that's where the comedy aspect comes in.
- 28:28SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 28:29SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 28:30SPEAKER_00: So yeah, that's I mean, it comes natural, but it also, you know, it's influences, you know, it's been you know for someone that it don't come as natural for exactly.
- 28:40SPEAKER_02: You you kind of laugh and joke and say if you're ugly, get cute.
- 28:43SPEAKER_02: But like, but for but for real, like what would you say to somebody who they don't got the same background as you?
- 28:48SPEAKER_02: They didn't grow up seeing people on screen, they didn't grow up with a father that does this for a living, and now they want to try to figure out, okay, man, how do I put I I do music, how do I put myself out there?
- 28:59SPEAKER_02: I I do comedy, how do I put my like what would you say?
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: I would just tell them look at man, so many ugly people on TV, man.
- 29:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: Like it's so many, it's so many people that's not aesthetically pleasing to the eye, you know what I'm saying?
- 29:10SPEAKER_00: And they and and they got huge followings, you know what I'm saying?
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: Like, it don't bro, get your it's in front of that camera, yeah.
- 29:17SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 29:18SPEAKER_00: Get in front of that and do your thing.
- 29:20SPEAKER_00: Like, ain't no ain't nothing to be shamed about, it's nothing to be like, bro, just do it.
- 29:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, just do it, just do it.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you I mean, everybody not everybody is like God gave people different gifts.
- 29:33SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 29:34SPEAKER_00: Being cute wasn't one of yours.
- 29:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't you know what I'm saying?
- 29:38SPEAKER_00: Like, we just gotta, we just gotta face reality.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, everybody's beautiful in in a certain way, just maybe not your face.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 29:46SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 29:48SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 29:49SPEAKER_00: So just get it, man.
- 29:50SPEAKER_00: Do your thing.
- 29:52SPEAKER_00: People gonna call you ugly.

- 31:09SPEAKER_00: Bro.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: So uh my class president, um, she was a girl, man.
- 31:18SPEAKER_00: She got um, man, her and her boyfriend was at the ATM, and they they robbed her, they, they, they kidnapped, he he shot, shot him in the back.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, kidnapped her, shot her in the vagina, man.
- 31:33SPEAKER_00: And like, bro, it was I'm just saying stuff like that was like, then this another this other person, they kidnapped him off off off campus, and then they threw their body like in the back of the chancellor's, uh, the chancellor's uh yard had like a lake in it through them.
- 31:52SPEAKER_00: I'm just bro, I'm telling you, like, shoot at like they used to come, like they done came through the because it was an open, I don't know what it is now.
- 31:59SPEAKER_00: I ain't been back to it was an open campus then.
- 32:01SPEAKER_00: They used to come shoot.
- 32:03SPEAKER_00: It was it was Hunt Hall and it was uh I forget the name of the other hall, but uh I stayed in Hunt Hall.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: The other one was Fisher Stevens, I think, bro, and that was just a strip, like they used to call it the Hopeplex, because they that's where everybody just used to, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: And bro, it was this, it was wild.
- 32:20SPEAKER_00: And see, like, bro, I was young then, so I don't, you know, I got my chest now lying.
- 32:24SPEAKER_00: You know, I just look back at it now, like, man, I could have been dead as a doorknob.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: There, there, there, you know what I'm saying?
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: Like, thank you, Lord.
- 32:31SPEAKER_00: Then um another quick story, man.
- 32:34SPEAKER_00: Um, we was new at this party, man, at this, at this Q party, and these young cats, man, they was they was they was mad because they couldn't get in.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: They just kept on saying, man, I'm a Q at high school.
- 32:45SPEAKER_00: What you what you talking about, man?
- 32:46SPEAKER_00: We, you know, we rep Q and high school, whatever.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: And so like they wouldn't let them in.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: So the niggas got mad.
- 32:52SPEAKER_00: And so uh it's a little place called the Rec.
- 32:56SPEAKER_00: So they used to have, they used to have like the windows.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: I don't know if back in the day they used to have the windows that kind of like propped propped open.
- 33:03SPEAKER_00: So the niggas was passing guns, like, so somehow somebody got in.
- 33:08SPEAKER_00: They passed guns through, you know, they passed guns and got them in there.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: And bro, before you knew it, one of my homeboys that uh, I ain't gonna even say his name, but one of my homeboys that was in there, totally innocent, didn't have nothing to do with nothing.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: We had just got finished smoking, and uh, you know what I'm saying?
- 33:25SPEAKER_00: I seen him dead, like man, they started shooting his blue, his brains was on the on the floor.
- 33:32SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:33SPEAKER_00: Like, I'm talking about I saw his brains was on, like he was I saw him, like he wasn't moving or nothing, but his brains was on the floor.
- 33:41SPEAKER_00: Like outside of his, you know what I'm saying?
- 33:44SPEAKER_00: Like, Ropan Bluff was a wild place.
- 33:47SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 33:50SPEAKER_00: Wild place.
- 33:51SPEAKER_00: When they when they tell you about uh U of C Bun beating them on there, like they asked Bun B, did you hear what he said then?
- 33:56SPEAKER_00: Like, bro, PJs is the first place that I went where it was like a it was like a a bar thing off TV, like throwing chairs, people busting windows, like throwing, and then this dude coming there with a big assault rifle coming there, like bro, it was it was a wow, like like back then it was crazy.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: It was crazy, like it was crazy.
- 34:17SPEAKER_00: And I look back at it now, like, man, I should have been, why wouldn't I in my dorm right?
- 34:21SPEAKER_00: Like, why was that?
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: But I was just, bro, I was like, you know, and that in that part of my life, I thought I was invincible.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: And I was ready to, like, I was ready to do what they was, you know, whatever, whatever, I was with whatever.
- 34:33SPEAKER_00: I was with whatever.
- 34:34SPEAKER_00: And so I had my uh the year 2000.
- 34:40SPEAKER_00: I had I by that time I had, I was like two years in school, I was like, I I started working at Tyson up there, which is another what's another wild place in Pine Blood, wild place.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: But uh, but I had um 2000, I had my daughter, and um by that time, man, I had uh I was with my group.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: Um we we had called ourselves 14K and different stuff.
- 35:06SPEAKER_00: So Century 21.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: And the crazy part is, man, we we got this song called Shake Junt that's out on all platforms right now.
- 35:13SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Shake Junt, the Shake Junt um 2000, bro.
- 35:18SPEAKER_00: The same day we recorded that, I came back from Little Rock and my daughter was being born that same day.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 35:25SPEAKER_00: That same exact day.
- 35:27SPEAKER_00: So I I know exactly the day that I that we recorded Shake Junk, October 2nd.
- 35:31SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 35:32SPEAKER_00: Like that same, so yeah, man.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: Um that was that that was kind of like the changing point there.
- 35:40SPEAKER_00: Like um, I wasn't totally converted then, but I was like, okay, I got something to live for now.
- 35:46SPEAKER_00: It's not, you know, it's not so much about being reckless, it's not so much.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: So I had a job for a couple years, Pine Bluff, and then that's uh we moved to Little Rock for a little while.
- 35:57SPEAKER_00: Moved to Little Rock probably 2001 and started running around there.
- 36:01SPEAKER_00: That's where uh we had um me and my homeboy C.
- 36:04SPEAKER_00: Wright, we had met uh D-Dirt, you know, D-Dirt Little Rock back in um probably '99.
- 36:12SPEAKER_00: And he uh he screwed and chopped on our songs for us, man.
- 36:15SPEAKER_00: Um so yeah, 2001, about 2002 is when I moved, when we went ahead and moved to Fayetteville.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: And that's when Yeah.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: So we was dirt roll records, man.
- 36:27SPEAKER_00: That was that was a um, yeah, man.
- 36:30SPEAKER_00: If you if you ask anybody who was here then, it wasn't nothing but a few.
- 36:33SPEAKER_00: It was us, Green City, uh, the key players was around, and then it's uh uh man, I forgot the other name of the group.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: Um But yeah, it wasn't, it wasn't, man, it wasn't no hip hop other.
- 36:46SPEAKER_00: Let's talk.
- 36:46SPEAKER_02: Let's talk about let's come on.
- 36:47SPEAKER_00: You know that's where I was what hey, what made you move this way?
- 36:52SPEAKER_00: Um it was just a new opportunity, like, bro, where we was, because we was actually living between Pine Bluff and Little Rocking, bro.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: It was serious.
- 37:01SPEAKER_00: Uh man, it was, it was, it was uh, it was something that it was something that I wanted to move away from.
- 37:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it was just, you know, I didn't want to, I didn't want to be in the trenches.
- 37:12SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 37:13SPEAKER_00: So I thought like I can make a better life for my baby mama at the time and my daughter, I could go to Fayetteville and you know, but man, I went to Fayetteville and it was, you know, girls, and uh, you know, we was we was rappers, man.
- 37:29SPEAKER_00: We was like, so Dirt Road, we was like a like a rock star movement because we was uh you know, we had the street elements, we had, we had the dudes that was doing the street stuff, we had all that, we had the and we had the music, and we used to throw shows in this little place called the music hall, man, and all kind of crazy, uh, you know, we kind of like brought our culture here.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: We brought our culture here, man.
- 37:53SPEAKER_00: And uh so the strip club was so right here was the strip club, which uh I think it's called the Peppermint something now.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: But it was back then it was it was Stephanie's strip club was here, the club was here.
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: We was regulars at the strip club, so we we used to go to the strip club and drink, and they used to let us in free, and used to be in the locker room with the girls and all that kind of stuff.
- 38:18SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 38:19SPEAKER_00: Like it was like we was we was regulars, yeah.
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 38:22SPEAKER_00: So we'd go from the strip club to the music hall, and when we uh and on the nights we had shows, we'd go to the strip club first, then we'd go to the music hall.
- 38:30SPEAKER_00: And like, man, I think I uh I know we was one of the first like hip-hop acts to have like jumping through our own.
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: We we did our own everything, and shout out to Jeremy, the music hall, too.
- 38:42SPEAKER_00: But we used to do our own shows, you know what I'm saying?
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: We put them on ourselves, it wasn't on internet 2002, 2002.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: The internet was here, but it wasn't, I mean, you know, you you didn't promote through the internet.
- 38:54SPEAKER_00: Nah, you weren't nah.
- 38:56SPEAKER_00: So man, we used to pack that judge out, man.
- 38:59SPEAKER_00: We packed it, like I know we did three, like we packed three shows out before it kind of started slowing down, and then like after that, the police start like packed out 50 people, 100 B.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: No, no, no, no, no.
- 39:11SPEAKER_00: Like, yeah, like a maybe 200 B.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: Like, I know the first show we threw, it was crazy.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Like, it was like packed.
- 39:17SPEAKER_00: It was, it was packed.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: It was like super packed.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: Um it was all kind of stuff going on, man.
- 39:24SPEAKER_00: Hand-to-hand marketing.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 39:26SPEAKER_00: No, yeah, yeah.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: So, so we was a couple people that was in our crew, shout out to Loke, uh, Charlie Mac, uh, Lil Dirty.
- 39:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, see, they was all like, they was they they was in high school still.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: So they would they would get our stuff and you know, funnel it through high school uh uh funnel it through the high school there in Springdale and stuff.
- 39:48SPEAKER_00: So a lot of those, they used to come try, you know, it wasn't no age like it was it was like an underground thing.
- 39:54SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't like they used to come through the shows and they man, they used to we used to pack it, like they used, it was packed out.
- 40:00SPEAKER_00: I mean, it was packed out, bro.
- 40:02SPEAKER_00: And so, like, man, so after that slowed down, man, uh, you know, we kind of started uh man, we kind of started dispand, bro, cause like, you know, a lot of people went to jail, you know what I'm saying?
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: Um probably around 2005 or six, man, probably like two or three members was locked up.
- 40:29SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 40:30SPEAKER_00: Um and so like, man, I, you know, I kind of seen where it was going.
- 40:36SPEAKER_00: I didn't like where it was going.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Um I probably should have stayed, but like in my mind, I was like, man, I just need to, I just need to, you know, I need to another, I need to, I need a fresh start.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: So I moved to Oklahoma City, man, for well, Oklahoma City probably 2007 or 8.
- 40:54SPEAKER_00: And I stayed there for about five or six years, man.
- 40:56SPEAKER_00: Met a lot of, you know, so so the music scene is different there.
- 40:59SPEAKER_00: It's a lot of, it's a lot different there.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: But I got acclimated, man.
- 41:02SPEAKER_00: I met some people and I did my thing.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: Um, I dropped the King Pippin, like my first solo project I dropped was the King Pippa Sex tape, and I dropped it there.
- 41:10SPEAKER_00: You know what I mean?
- 41:11SPEAKER_00: It was probably like 2009 or 10 or something like that.
- 41:16SPEAKER_00: Uh dropped my very first video called Bedroom.
- 41:19SPEAKER_00: Uh man, I had we had auditions for the video and everything.
- 41:24SPEAKER_00: Like, man, I thought I was gonna like after, like, bro, I had a um, I had a I had an Emmy Award-winning um video director to direct my video.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: His name was Jay Sheldon.
- 41:33SPEAKER_00: Shout out, Jay.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: Um uh man, I thought I thought I was I thought I was finna be on.
- 41:40SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: I thought I thought I was finna be on, but we had auditions.
- 41:44SPEAKER_00: Um we hired some really pretty girls, and um actually the girls is actually doing stuff now.
- 41:50SPEAKER_00: Um but had some pretty girls.
- 41:54SPEAKER_00: Um the video did well, but it didn't, I mean no, obviously it didn't, it didn't do it.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: We have we're not at the grammar.
- 42:01SPEAKER_00: I started talking bad to my baby mama and everything.
- 42:03SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what?
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like, and then she just looking at me like, yeah, you know, but yeah, obviously it didn't, you know.
- 42:14SPEAKER_00: But um, but man, I, you know, I did more videos.
- 42:18SPEAKER_00: I did more um, man, I met some real cool people up there.
- 42:22SPEAKER_00: Uh rest in peace to my guy Spider in Oklahoma City.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: Um uh man, um met my guy named Cap, an engineer.
- 42:33SPEAKER_00: Man, I met some really cool, really dope, dope artists, man, when I was there.
- 42:38SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 42:39SPEAKER_00: So like that landscape kind of shaped me too.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Like it was different.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Like um, they was more like on the West Coast type vibe, you know what I'm saying?
- 42:47SPEAKER_00: More than still on the like so they so they like Midwest kind of, you know, that's what you know, that's what it was then.
- 42:55SPEAKER_00: Uh like I say, a lot of dope people, a lot of dope artists.
- 42:59SPEAKER_00: Um so about 2012, I moved back to um the end of 2012, I moved back to Fayetteville.
- 43:07SPEAKER_00: I hadn't been back at all.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about from 2008 to 12, from 2007 to 12, I hadn't been back at all.
- 43:15SPEAKER_00: You didn't even visit.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: Not at all.
- 43:17SPEAKER_00: Like, not at all.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: But I end up, but we but we ended up moving back.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: Um and I was telling my homeboy this.
- 43:26SPEAKER_00: I said, man, we went on Dixon Street, and the same people who was there in 2007, I would it was the it was the it was the same people that was there.
- 43:36SPEAKER_00: And I was like, man, this ain't, you know, I'm like 32, 33 now, so it's um, you know, and then by the uh by that by that time, um I had kept close contact with a couple guys like who to be and uh uh uh Charles, of course, Charles Martel, that's my guy forever.
- 43:55SPEAKER_00: Um we had I had uh we kept close contact, but um Um man, I um these younger guys from Marvel, they had moved to um, they had moved to Fairville.
- 44:09SPEAKER_00: So they was, they was, man, I told this story the other day, man.
- 44:12SPEAKER_00: So I done I done started over like 15 times.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Like all the way from nothing.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:18SPEAKER_00: So a situation happened in Oklahoma City, so I just, I just had to leave.
- 44:21SPEAKER_00: And so I really came with nothing, came with some clothes, and that's it.
- 44:25SPEAKER_00: So man, these guys was tenure, and man, this this kind of stuff will make you humble yourself.
- 44:29SPEAKER_02: And you mean literally, you have a house, you that you have your pros.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_00: Like, bro, if it wasn't for them, they came.
- 44:35SPEAKER_00: I mean, I came there and they knew me as King Pimp.
- 44:39SPEAKER_00: And they they they like they thought I was a star.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: They thought I was like a, you know what I'm saying?
- 44:43SPEAKER_00: And and so I came with them and they saw firsthand, bro, I ain't had nothing.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: I ain't had nothing.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: They let me sleep on their couch and they floor.
- 44:53SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 44:54SPEAKER_00: They let me um girls was coming over talking bad to me, like begging, you know, I'm I'm I'm standing on P.
- 45:00SPEAKER_00: Like, girl, I'm still me.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 45:03SPEAKER_00: They and they like beggars can't be choosed.
- 45:05SPEAKER_00: And I'm like, you know, you know, they give me a chill thing, bro.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I feel it.
- 45:09SPEAKER_00: I just feel it, yeah.
- 45:11SPEAKER_00: Hey, bro, bro.
- 45:12SPEAKER_00: I done slept on the couch.
- 45:13SPEAKER_00: And and bro, that's where I kind of like that's and um that's where we started Fly Life, man.
- 45:18SPEAKER_00: We started um our little movement called Fly Life.
- 45:22SPEAKER_00: Um and bro, like that period right there.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: I did get it out the mud then.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Like I got it like it was, you know, it was from nothing.
- 45:34SPEAKER_00: It was like I didn't have a single thing.
- 45:37SPEAKER_00: And it took me time.
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 45:38SPEAKER_00: It took me time to build up, you know.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Uh that's why I met Spider, bro.
- 45:42SPEAKER_00: That's where I met uh me and Spider.
- 45:44SPEAKER_00: We uh Yeah, yeah, that's where I got some love for Spider.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: Nah, bro.
- 45:49SPEAKER_00: We and and and bro, um, we gotta we we got a bond that like no matter what people say or whatever, however they feel about him, like me and him got a bond that nobody else, you know what I'm saying?
- 46:01SPEAKER_00: Cause we slept on the floor together.
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Like we, you know what I'm saying?
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Like we was like, like, and in and and and in fairness, they was younger than me.
- 46:11SPEAKER_00: So like for them to be in that situation wasn't, you know, it wasn't it it was it was typical.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 46:17SPEAKER_00: But man, I was like 35, 36.
- 46:19SPEAKER_00: Like, you know, I was, you know, yeah, I was damn bad, bro.
- 46:27SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 46:28SPEAKER_00: I ain't had nothing, bro.
- 46:29SPEAKER_00: I ain't had nothing, I ain't had no money.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: I was, you know, and then man, we uh like man, we started the whole fly life thing, man.
- 46:36SPEAKER_00: And um, that's what my homeboy Chief Irachi, man, the uh the uh uh the uh beat making extraordinaire, man.
- 46:45SPEAKER_00: He you know, he from Marvel.
- 46:47SPEAKER_00: So man, we started a whole little Marvel crew.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: We got my homeboy Lil B from uh Holly Grove.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: He made beats and he rapped too, man.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: So we started a whole new thing, and bro, like Fly Life did well.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: Like, we did what like if it did well enough for me to mention this part of my story.
- 47:03SPEAKER_00: Yeah, that part so uh Ly Solo, Jizzle Man, Grime Mode, Lil Beat the Rapper, uh uh Corley, Corley Ruffin, um Cheap Cheap, man.
- 47:17SPEAKER_00: We man, we you know, we did some stuff.
- 47:20SPEAKER_00: Um something happened internally, and you man, with groups, bro, they always it's something gonna happen where they you know what I'm saying?
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: So the the short version is man, we you know, we kind of disbanded and um by let's see by 2017-18, I had moved in with my cousin.
- 47:41SPEAKER_00: I still wasn't good enough, bro, to move by myself.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: So my cousin Candace um and her husband KJ, Candace had got pregnant and she moved.
- 47:52SPEAKER_00: Uh I had been working with her for a long time.
- 47:54SPEAKER_00: I I had been working with her since probably 2008, back in Marvel.
- 47:59SPEAKER_00: So um, so uh she had got pregnant, and um her and KJ, they was in Pine Bluff and they moved to um they and they and and she seen I was in like a mess of.
- 48:10SPEAKER_00: She's like, nah, you just gonna, nah, you finna come move with me.
- 48:13SPEAKER_00: He said, You finna come move with us, and we gonna, and so I moved with them, man, and that's when I kind of started my video run.
- 48:20SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 48:21SPEAKER_00: Like I was able to, so then I was able to uh with you know, with help with the rent and all the bills, bro, I was able to actually funnel my money into these videos, bro.
- 48:32SPEAKER_00: And that's how I, that's how I did it.
- 48:34SPEAKER_00: I I wasn't uh I didn't care about like having visitors or having like girls come over and they're like, I wasn't, I wasn't into none of that, man.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: I was trying to get it.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: I was trying to like, you know, I had to, I work second shift, so a lot of times, man, we would like um we have videos in the daytime, like before I went to work.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: So sometimes, man, I had to get up at like, I would just be getting off work at like three or four in the morning.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: I had to get up at like eight and go to Fort Smith or go to Little Rock or go to, you know what I'm saying?
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: Like I was dead tired, but I know I had to get up, do that, and get back to work.
- 49:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 49:09SPEAKER_00: But bro, that was that was it.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: That's how I, that's how I did it, bro.
- 49:12SPEAKER_00: That's how I that's how I, and I had to, I had to squeeze in time.
- 49:16SPEAKER_00: Um, he got me a little girlfriend.
- 49:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I got my head square, I had squared my life, yeah, I had squared my life up.
- 49:23SPEAKER_00: Got a girlfriend.
- 49:24SPEAKER_00: I had to find time to do that, find time to um record, find time, you know.
- 49:29SPEAKER_00: I just I you know, I had to, and bro, like the thing is, bro, uh my my cousin husband, KJ, who's a phenomenal rapper in his own right, but he used to tell me, like, man, I don't know how you do it.
- 49:40SPEAKER_00: But see, the thing is, bro, if you want to do it, you'll find a way.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: That's how you do it.
- 49:43SPEAKER_00: You'll find a way, bro.
- 49:44SPEAKER_00: Like, you will find a way.
- 49:46SPEAKER_00: And I felt like to this day, bro, I'm finding a way.
- 49:49SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: I'm finding, um, so let me keep going.
- 49:53SPEAKER_00: Um That's good.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: So, so, uh, so um probably 2022.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 50:03SPEAKER_00: Um I finally got back to, I got my I had had when I moved to Oklahoma City, I had my own spot then, but like 2022, I was 42 years old, bro.
- 50:14SPEAKER_00: Got my own, like, got my own spot again.
- 50:16SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 50:18SPEAKER_00: Like, I was actually blessed enough to get my own spot again.
- 50:22SPEAKER_00: And so, like, you know, kept going, kept doing the stuff.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: Now, I couldn't shoot as many videos then, because I did, you know what?
- 50:29SPEAKER_03: You know what I'm saying?
- 50:30SPEAKER_03: You gotta open it, it got a little higher.
- 50:33SPEAKER_03: You gotta pick a little bit more.
- 50:34SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, so I mean, I had to slow down a little bit, and and um man, you know, ever since then, bro, I've been, I haven't been moving at the pace, like from 2019 to about 2022 or 23, man.
- 50:51SPEAKER_00: I shot close to 40 videos.
- 50:53SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 50:54SPEAKER_00: Like 10 a year, you know what I'm saying?
- 50:56SPEAKER_00: Something like that, like something crazy like yeah, yeah.
- 51:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 51:01SPEAKER_00: And man, um, so I had to accept the fact that I had to, I mean, I had to slow.
- 51:08SPEAKER_00: So like now my productions are or are bigger as as opposed to having so many.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: I might do two or three now a year that that's bigger.
- 51:18SPEAKER_03: But actors you got a script.
- 51:20SPEAKER_03: I'm not sending.
- 51:22SPEAKER_03: I've been watching the video, y'all see what it seems.
- 51:25SPEAKER_00: I did my last video, my last um actual music video that I did um with uh uh with an Instagram uh her name Draco the Body.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: You should look her up.
- 51:38SPEAKER_00: I'm not I'm not yeah well it was dope, man.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: It was dope.
- 51:44SPEAKER_00: It was it was um the big production.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: It was like um uh her homegirl Alex was there, so she she she played like a little role in it, but man, it was for obvious reasons it was one of it's one of my favorite.
- 51:57SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah.
- 51:59SPEAKER_00: It was one of my favorite.
- 52:01SPEAKER_00: But yeah, man, I'm I'm I'm just like like like now, um, man, I'm into I want to help other people now.
- 52:10SPEAKER_00: Like help other people um with their vision and um with their music, you know.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: Um I still you know, I I still be wanting to spotlight a little, you know, I still want the spotlight to shine on me a little bit, you know?
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: Like a little bit.
- 52:26SPEAKER_00: Like a little bit.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: A little bit, but like man, now I'm uh I'm I'm really focused on helping other people.
- 52:33SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 52:34SPEAKER_00: Because I I see a lot of people that just need a push or just need uh, you know, just need a little coaching.
- 52:41SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 52:42SPEAKER_00: And I can I can I can provide that.
- 52:43SPEAKER_02: Yeah, you know, you know, I think, I think Bro, also kingpaper, ladies and gentlemen.
- 52:48SPEAKER_02: Oh man.
- 52:49SPEAKER_02: Like, nah, bro, like it's you got such experience, you know what I'm saying?
- 52:54SPEAKER_02: Like now, that's the most valuable commodity because everybody got access to the same tools.
- 53:00SPEAKER_02: So, like you were saying, when you was coming up, you couldn't just jump on TikTok and Instagram and get your stuff out.
- 53:05SPEAKER_02: Like now you don't need nobody walking you into the label, like the label watching the same video as you watching, you know what I mean?
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Yeah, exactly.
- 53:11SPEAKER_02: Directly to them, like hey Capital Records, listen to this.
- 53:14SPEAKER_02: Like, ah, no, for real.
- 53:16SPEAKER_02: They're gonna put if you if you good, they gonna find you.
- 53:19SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 53:20SPEAKER_02: But bro, you speak to something that I think has become such a valuable commodity now because you know, you can't manufacture experience.
- 53:29SPEAKER_02: Nah.
- 53:29SPEAKER_02: Like if you ain't slept on the floor, then I can't tell you what it's like to sleep.
- 53:33SPEAKER_02: Like, I can paint a picture, but until you done put your arm on that, you know what I'm saying?
- 53:38SPEAKER_00: It's no substitute for experience.
- 53:40SPEAKER_02: You gotta be like, What?
- 53:43SPEAKER_02: But you're too tired to swipe it.
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 53:45SPEAKER_02: Like, man, you can sleep right there too.
- 53:47SPEAKER_02: But like, you know, then you don't know what that even feels like.
- 53:50SPEAKER_02: And I think the other thing is you said something that was profound.
- 53:53SPEAKER_02: It's like, man, if you want to do it, you're gonna find a way.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 53:55SPEAKER_02: Like, excuses have really become normal in everyday life.
- 54:00SPEAKER_02: Like, people, it's it's easier to be like, I couldn't do it because I was tired or because I had to do this, or because I didn't eat this more.
- 54:07SPEAKER_02: And it's like, that just tell me you really didn't want to do it.
- 54:10SPEAKER_00: So I got a nine to five job now.
- 54:12SPEAKER_00: I got a nine to five job, and I'm kind of like, I'm not gonna, but I'm kind of like, you know, well, I got a I got a little crew, you know what I'm saying?
- 54:19SPEAKER_00: I got a crew of people that work, uh, you know.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: So yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 54:23SPEAKER_00: I don't want to do it.
- 54:24SPEAKER_00: But so, bro, you would you it's crazy.
- 54:28SPEAKER_00: Like, cause, you know, they give you so many, like, why they can't come to work or why they can't.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Okay.
- 54:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, but I mean, you know, okay, but you know, you're gonna get this, yeah.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: You finna get this demerit, or you finna get this point, or you're gonna get this, you know.
- 54:42SPEAKER_00: I mean, you know, um, and like, bro, um, bottom line is nobody cares.
- 54:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know, I I hate to say it like that, but it's just the truth.
- 54:52SPEAKER_00: Like, nobody, like, like in the big picture, nobody cares.
- 54:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 54:57SPEAKER_00: Nobody like like you can say all these excuses, and the people be like, oh man, I'm sorry to hear that.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: And then right after they say that, they're gonna start talking about something else.
- 55:06SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you see what I'm saying?
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: Because like, um this is the problem that I think we have with like I think one thing is like um just an example.
- 55:18SPEAKER_00: Something happened and you missed something, and you'd be like, oh man, I was asleep.
- 55:23SPEAKER_00: You gotta understand, bro.
- 55:25SPEAKER_00: Like, when you when you sleep or when you would, like, everything else keeps going.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: It don't sound like when you when you're grieving, you lose somebody.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: We all lose people, bro.
- 55:33SPEAKER_00: Trust me, I done, man.
- 55:35SPEAKER_00: My two best friends in the world are gone.
- 55:38SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: So, you know, my granny's gone.
- 55:41SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: My so I understand the grieving process, but you gotta understand and and and please grieve.
- 55:48SPEAKER_00: If you need to grieve, grieve.
- 55:49SPEAKER_00: But when you're grieving, bro, it's millions of people that's I don't know if they're grieving or not, but they still everything is still turning.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's still turning.
- 55:58SPEAKER_00: So whenever you come out your depression or whatever, don't act like it hasn't moved without you.
- 56:05SPEAKER_00: Because it has.
- 56:12SPEAKER_00: It's a hard last day.
- 56:13SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and and you and and some people like bro, the way music works now, like it's so like it's so it's like fast food.
- 56:21SPEAKER_00: It's like, you know what I'm saying?
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: They pinch you.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: Like, if you don't, if if you don't make yourself visible, people gonna forget about you.
- 56:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, and then you'll get on there, it's like, yeah, man.
- 56:31SPEAKER_00: Well, I've been going through this and going through that.
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: Man, I feel like that's the most disrespectful thing that you can say to somebody else because you're you're um in your mind, you're taking for granted that they have not yeah, yeah, like like they not going through nothing.
- 56:46SPEAKER_00: Everybody's not gonna be able to do like they come on, bro.
- 56:47SPEAKER_00: Come on.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: Like, you know what I'm saying?
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: Like, like you, so you're telling me you're going through something.
- 56:55SPEAKER_00: Let me, I I gotta lit.
- 56:57SPEAKER_00: You when you want to start?
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: I gotta I gotta lit.
- 57:00SPEAKER_00: See, that's what I'm saying, bro.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: Like, to me, that's disrespectful.
- 57:03SPEAKER_00: Like, um, either you're gonna do it or not.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Point blank.
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 57:08SPEAKER_00: Like everybody going through stuff, like some stuff is more severe than others.
- 57:12SPEAKER_00: I I I I get you.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: But bro, everything keeps moving.
- 57:16SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 57:17SPEAKER_00: That's the You need a why.
- 57:22SPEAKER_02: I got a home, bro.
- 57:23SPEAKER_02: I met I met a guy at a conference, his name is Brendan Boyd, and I said, Man, what do you say to that person that wants to do something, but have just hasn't gotten started yet.
- 57:33SPEAKER_02: Like they they got this idea, but they he said, I don't say nothing to them.
- 57:38SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 57:39SPEAKER_02: He said, I don't got nothing.
- 57:40SPEAKER_02: I don't got nothing to say to him.
- 57:41SPEAKER_02: No, because if because if they ain't done it yet, ain't nothing I can say.
- 57:44SPEAKER_02: Ain't nothing to talk about.
- 57:45SPEAKER_00: It's nothing like what can we converse about if you haven't done nothing?
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: You haven't done anything.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you haven't done nothing, you haven't even started.
- 57:51SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 57:52SPEAKER_00: And man, I feel bad because so for real, for real.
- 57:56SPEAKER_00: That's the real bro.
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: How's been trying to give me third house?
- 57:59SPEAKER_00: My God, third house, man.
- 58:00SPEAKER_00: Um, that's been one of the man, man, one of the dopest producers, one of the dopest people like in the world.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: That's the real thing.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:09SPEAKER_00: But he's been trying to get me to write this script, man.
- 58:12SPEAKER_00: Write these scripts, man, and he studied pushing me.
- 58:15SPEAKER_00: He studied pushing me, and I just haven't made the time to do it.
- 58:18SPEAKER_00: And like, I can make up excuses why I haven't did it, but I haven't done it.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 58:22SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 58:23SPEAKER_00: And so, like, we don't like, man, I I feel bad.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: I feel terrible.
- 58:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I feel terrible, but uh that's something that I gotta get to.
- 58:29SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 58:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: So I'm just sure everybody, like, I'm you know, yeah, I mean you not you're not holding it now.
- 58:36SPEAKER_03: You still working on this.
- 58:37SPEAKER_03: Yeah, you just you feel me?
- 58:38SPEAKER_00: So yeah, man.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: Um but I and I won't talk about House for a minute, man.
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: Like, he's a phenomenal producer, but man, phenomenal person, bro.
- 58:48SPEAKER_00: Like, uh, I think he's like a year younger than me, but he's like my big homie.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 58:52SPEAKER_00: Like I come to him, I come to him for advice and stuff, and he kind of like calms me down and like, okay, pimp, this is what it is.
- 59:00SPEAKER_03: Never met nobody like that.
- 59:02SPEAKER_03: He would tell you that.
- 59:03SPEAKER_03: This is what it is.
- 59:04SPEAKER_03: Yeah, yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 59:05SPEAKER_00: So man, I dope, dope guy, man.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: We got it.
- 59:08SPEAKER_00: We actually got a collab project out, you know.
- 59:10SPEAKER_00: Vinish Soul.
- 59:11SPEAKER_00: Vinny Soul, man.
- 59:12SPEAKER_00: That's you know, yeah.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: That's just so hard.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: Venice Soul, man.
- 59:17SPEAKER_00: Hard, bro.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: Yeah, man.
- 59:18SPEAKER_00: House dope, man.
- 59:19SPEAKER_00: I can't say enough about him.
- 59:21SPEAKER_00: We could do a whole segment about it.
- 59:24SPEAKER_02: But but what I think is dope is, you know, like I said, he introduced me to you and he was telling me about your artwork, and he knows, you know, it's it's it's unique with me, man.
- 59:33SPEAKER_02: I didn't start like my music journey, my artist journey wanting to be in the center of attention.
- 59:40SPEAKER_02: As a matter of fact, at 13 years old, I told my family I would never be an entertainer.
- 59:44SPEAKER_02: You know, you know this about me.
- 59:45SPEAKER_02: A lot of people don't know this.
- 59:46SPEAKER_02: I said I would never do it.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: Yeah.
- 59:47SPEAKER_02: And my family looking at me, how you talk about them gifts.
- 59:50SPEAKER_02: They're like, bro, what do you mean you ain't gonna do it?
- 59:51SPEAKER_02: Like, this this art ticket.
- 59:53SPEAKER_02: Like, you know what I mean?
- 59:54SPEAKER_02: You God gave you this gift so you could, you know, and and I was like, nah.
- 59:58SPEAKER_02: And then, you know, I'm at House, and and House did a really good job of just like, man, showing me the the art form behind everything and how, you know, this man says space is as infinitely small as it is large.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_02: And so if you don't, bro, like he he he say that type of shit.
- 1:00:15SPEAKER_02: He's so crazy, man.
- 1:00:18SPEAKER_00: Like you gotta think about it.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: You gotta think about it.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_02: You gonna explain that to me, then he'll go off to something else.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_02: But it's like, man, if you don't have a roadmap, then even though you could do anything, you really you as confined, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_02: Yeah, because you don't have nothing guiding you.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_02: So like there, so write it down, bang.
- 1:00:36SPEAKER_02: Like, where you going?
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_02: What you wanna do?
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_02: Okay, you want this many tracks?
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_02: Okay, you want to be here in six months?
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_02: Like, give yourself a plan of action.
- 1:00:43SPEAKER_02: And but you know, I see art, I'm saying all this to say, like, for me, art, you know, being music is like, man, it's a creative expression.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_02: How we were talking about earlier, but sometimes I don't even, I'm not even writing the stuff.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_02: So it can't be a commodity-based thing where it's like, okay, I'm making this to go get a whole bunch of bread, like a whole bunch of bread.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_02: Even if you do need to profit off of your artwork, the artwork still gotta come first.
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_02: Exactly.
- 1:01:08SPEAKER_02: You know, Quincy Jones says when you talk about money in the studio, God leaves the room.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_02: Absolutely.
- 1:01:13SPEAKER_02: You know, because if you are only doing that thing so you could transact, or so it could be a, like you say, a fast food-based commodity, then you kind of missing people.
- 1:01:22SPEAKER_02: Like you don't have that thing that's connecting them.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_02: So when it comes to your stuff, it's like, man, everything you do, whether I'm watching a video and I'm laughing, whether I'm listening to some like on Vengeant Soul, and I'm like, dang, man, you really, you know, like you approaching it with a level of like care and art, you know what I'm saying, that you put into it.
- 1:01:39SPEAKER_02: So this kind of my last kind of question set for you is like, it's a lot of people that's being so bombarded with media, paralysis of analysis, don't know where to turn, you know, and you kind of speak to like you gotta do something.
- 1:01:52SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_02: Like you don't, you don't have the luxury of just sitting back and stuff passing by and thinking you could just get in the game, like, nah, bro, every second you're not doing something, you know.
- 1:02:02SPEAKER_02: And so, man, what I what I want you to give is like give a three-step program for somebody that's like, you know what I'm saying, okay, this is what you need to do.
- 1:02:11SPEAKER_02: When this video goes off, this what you finna do.
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:02:14SPEAKER_02: Whether it's a musician, whether it's a comedian, like, do this.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_02: Whether that's record something today, post it tomorrow, send it to your friends.
- 1:02:23SPEAKER_02: Like, what's the what's the king pimping God to we're gonna say specifically social media success for you and and for what somebody you know could do right now.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_00: Okay, three things.
- 1:02:35SPEAKER_00: Yeah, this is easy.
- 1:02:36SPEAKER_00: You know, I'll put you on the spot.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_00: First thing you gotta do is wake up in the morning.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_00: Wake up, yeah, pray.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: And do it.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: See that's it.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: Like, wake up, wake up in the morning, thank God that you woke up in the morning, pray about what you're finna do, get your up in front of the camera, or get your opinion, get whatever, start right, whatever, whatever it is, and just do it.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_00: Like you, bro, I'm just I'm just saying, bro, like people want to say, yeah, people want to say that you gotta do all this, you know, planning, and and and and planning is good.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_00: Planning is great, planning is great, but bro, but you know, with a plan, like if you make a plan, how often do you go through all the steps to the other?
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: Almost never for me.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying, bro.
- 1:03:29SPEAKER_00: You got like, bro, at some point you just gotta do it.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: It ain't gonna be, man, I work with a lot of people that are perfectionists and all that kind of stuff, and it just like, and just being a perfectionist, you want everything to be a certain way.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: You want everything to be, but it ain't gonna like bro, you know, this is the artist.
- 1:03:47SPEAKER_00: Like a lot of times, bro, we we uh when we're creating something and we're creating it, and while we're creating it, we hear it, and then when we record it, it don't sound like well, we know what I'm saying.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: It doesn't sound like, you know what I mean?
- 1:04:00SPEAKER_00: Like, it don't okay, it just don't sound like you know then we scrap it.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, we scrap it.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: Yep, but it might not be tracked.
- 1:04:07SPEAKER_00: I'm like, like if you know, it could be a but you gotta keep going, bro.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_00: You just gotta keep you you gotta keep it moving.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: You gotta keep um maybe be maybe it don't sound right to you.
- 1:04:17SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_00: What's your favorite song that you ever did?
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_00: Be honest, what's your favorite song?
- 1:04:23SPEAKER_00: Your favorite song you ever did, like your favorite song that you ever like like you look back and you say, Man, this is my favorite song.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_00: Take all the other stuff out of the what's your favorite song?
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_02: That's a good question, bro.
- 1:04:35SPEAKER_00: The thing that's coming to my head is Yo Kiero.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: It's not your most successful song.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_00: Nah, it's not.
- 1:04:42SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm saying.
- 1:04:43SPEAKER_00: Like, like, bro, as artists, it's never the song that we think is the best.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_00: Like, it's gonna be the like, it might be the song, like, bro, for instance, the song I got called Deliberate with Spider and Kaya.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_00: I'm not even rapping my verse, I'm chanting.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_00: Pop that.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:04:59SPEAKER_00: Hey, hey, yeah, hey, hey, cut up.
- 1:05:02SPEAKER_00: I'm doing that.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: That's the that's the that got the most streams uh in this on.
- 1:05:07SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_00: It got the most, like, and I'd have really, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:12SPEAKER_00: Like the real thought.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_00: I'm talking about rhyme scheme, the way I see, you know, the way I broke it down here and this that song right there is the one that got the most, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: Absolutely.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: So I'm just saying, bro, like and we and and and and and and us as artists and creators, bro, we gotta stop sitting on stuff, bro.
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_00: Like, put the stuff out, man.
- 1:05:34SPEAKER_00: Put just put it out.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Like, put it out.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_00: Like, put it out.
- 1:05:36SPEAKER_00: What's the worst somebody can say?
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: Right.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_00: By the time, this is why I told my homeboy Cash, my engineer at uh New Way, but yeah, bro.
- 1:05:45SPEAKER_00: By the time, by the time you done develop an opinion about what I I'm doing today, I already got something different.
- 1:05:52SPEAKER_00: I already got something different.
- 1:05:53SPEAKER_00: By the time you think it, boy, I got something else in the ball.
- 1:05:56SPEAKER_00: I got something else ready, boy, finna come out tomorrow.
- 1:05:58SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: Why You thinking about that.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: You know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:01SPEAKER_00: So, yeah, bro.
- 1:06:02SPEAKER_00: Yeah, bro.
- 1:06:03SPEAKER_00: We just, man, look, do it.
- 1:06:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06:06SPEAKER_00: Wake up.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: Now that's the first thing you gotta wake up.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: You gotta wake up.
- 1:06:10SPEAKER_00: That's real.
- 1:06:11SPEAKER_00: Pray about it and do it.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_02: Bro, I'm encouraged.
- 1:06:16SPEAKER_02: I'm encouraged.
- 1:06:17SPEAKER_02: Because now we because we want self-help books and we want a 10-step program, but the best plan can't help your inaction.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: No.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_02: Like if you're not gonna just get up and do something, you can have the best plan, you know, all day long.
- 1:06:28SPEAKER_00: Example, bro, I done watch people Instagram, Facebook, I done watched their pages just grow from nothing.
- 1:06:33SPEAKER_00: Yeah, you know what I'm saying?
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: From nothing to 100,000, yeah, 100,000 followers.
- 1:06:39SPEAKER_00: All they did was got up and start doing stuff, bro.
- 1:06:42SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like until you find what works.
