Transcript
- 0:01Speaker 1: Hey, Discos, need a little more Disgraceland in your life,
- 0:05Speaker 1: just to touch to get you through. Yeah, me too.
- 0:08Speaker 1: This is the podcast that comes after the podcast. Welcome
- 0:11Speaker 1: to Disgraceland. The after Party. Welcome to the Disgraceland bonus episode,
- 0:30Speaker 1: a little thing we like to call the after party.
- 0:33Speaker 1: This is the show after the show, the party after
- 0:35Speaker 1: the party, the bridge to get you from one full
- 0:38Speaker 1: episode of Disgraceland to the other, the backyard to dig
- 0:41Speaker 1: into the dirt. On this episode, we're talking, among other things,
- 0:45Speaker 1: about season thirteen of Disgraceland, Wu Tang Clan, Tammy Wynette,
- 0:51Speaker 1: Power Trip, and of course your voicemails, texts, dms and more,
- 0:56Speaker 1: and as always, a whole lot of rosy. All right, Discos,
- 1:00Speaker 1: let's get into it. Well, all right, have you heard
- 1:14Speaker 1: it the trailer for season thirteen of Disgraceland, the first
- 1:18Speaker 1: serialized season in the show's history. I'm guessing that you
- 1:21Speaker 1: already have, But if you have not, let me be
- 1:23Speaker 1: the first to tell you that this brand new season
- 1:25Speaker 1: features ten episodes on one group, and that group is
- 1:30Speaker 1: Wu Tang Clan. That's right. Full episodes on the Rizza,
- 1:35Speaker 1: the Jizza, Method Man, Ghost Face, Killer, Inspected Deck, You,
- 1:38Speaker 1: God Reykwan, Masta Killa, Cappadonna, and of course Old Dirty
- 1:42Speaker 1: Bastard one episode each. You know these guys, they're one
- 1:46Speaker 1: of the biggest hip hop groups of all time. They
- 1:48Speaker 1: launched some of the biggest solo careers of all time.
- 1:50Speaker 1: The story of how they bonded together to transcend the
- 1:52Speaker 1: cycle of non success, as the Rizza called it, of
- 1:55Speaker 1: the New York City streets. How they transcended these things
- 1:58Speaker 1: in order to become one of the most successful hip
- 2:01Speaker 1: hop brands of all time is, as we like to say, insane,
- 2:06Speaker 1: and as you can imagine, there is a lot of
- 2:09Speaker 1: true crime going on throughout this story, especially the really
- 2:13Speaker 1: explosive angle that I was most interested in the fact
- 2:16Speaker 1: that the Wu Tang clan were being hunted for years,
- 2:20Speaker 1: but not just the NYPD, not just the ATF, but
- 2:23Speaker 1: the FBI, who labeled them a quote major criminal organization unquote,
- 2:29Speaker 1: the same label given to mafia crime families. That's why
- 2:33Speaker 1: when I'm watching TV and any of these FBI jack
- 2:36Speaker 1: holes who are retired now go on cable news or whatever,
- 2:40Speaker 1: they're just whatever they're saying, I just take it all
- 2:43Speaker 1: with a grain of salt. Any of the CIA, same thing.
- 2:46Speaker 1: And not that they're CIA guys out there talking on
- 2:48Speaker 1: the news, but when you see them in front of Congress,
- 2:51Speaker 1: these guys are They're professional fucking liars. And the more
- 2:54Speaker 1: I research the interaction with them in music history, the
- 2:58Speaker 1: more I am convinced of this. And you're gonna hear
- 3:01Speaker 1: all this playout in the Wu Tang Clan season that
- 3:03Speaker 1: we have planned for you. Guys. The season is just
- 3:06Speaker 1: nuts nuts. Trust me. You can start hearing new episodes
- 3:09Speaker 1: next week on Tuesday, September fifth. The way we're gonna
- 3:13Speaker 1: do this, at least for a while is released two
- 3:15Speaker 1: Wu Tang episodes per week, so one on Tuesday and
- 3:18Speaker 1: then one on Thursdays. Like I said, this is a
- 3:21Speaker 1: serialized season. They're not anthology episodes. It's one narrative that
- 3:26Speaker 1: stretches out over over the story of ten artists, over
- 3:29Speaker 1: ten episodes. So we wanted to give you these two
- 3:33Speaker 1: at a time during the week, two episodes per week,
- 3:35Speaker 1: one on Tuesdays and again one on Thursdays. Gonna be
- 3:38Speaker 1: coming at you fast and furious, just like the Fist
- 3:40Speaker 1: of Furia, one of those Kung fu films that the
- 3:42Speaker 1: Wu Tang clan dudes love so much. So that's what's
- 3:46Speaker 1: gonna happen. Two Wu Tang episodes per week, with the
- 3:50Speaker 1: two Wu Tang episodes again serialized as in a story
- 3:54Speaker 1: that continues with cliffhangers, etc. These after party episodes that
- 3:57Speaker 1: we've been doing, We're gonna pause on these after party
- 4:00Speaker 1: bonus episodes until we run through these ten Wu Tang apps.
- 4:04Speaker 1: But but but but but have no fear. I am
- 4:06Speaker 1: going to continue to respond to you guys, answer your voicemails,
- 4:11Speaker 1: answer your texts, answer your dms in the pre party
- 4:14Speaker 1: mini episodes that we release on Monday. Okay, so a
- 4:18Speaker 1: lot of interactions still happening. You're getting more content, more
- 4:22Speaker 1: edge of your seat storytelling, more dramatic, immersive history here
- 4:27Speaker 1: in the Disgrace Land Feed, and of course we get
- 4:30Speaker 1: the rap party movie in cinema conversation going over in
- 4:33Speaker 1: the bad Lands Feed. All right, all that aside. Okay,
- 4:36Speaker 1: having my head immersed in the land of the Wu
- 4:39Speaker 1: for the last few weeks has had me thinking, is
- 4:43Speaker 1: Wu Tang Clan the greatest supergroup of all time? Yeah?
- 4:47Speaker 1: I know that technically the guys in the group weren't
- 4:50Speaker 1: stars at first, but the way that the Riza pulled
- 4:54Speaker 1: them all together. He definitely had that supergroup thing in
- 4:57Speaker 1: mind from the beginning, and it's definitely the the vibe
- 5:00Speaker 1: that they rock nowadays. And I just want to know
- 5:03Speaker 1: are they the best? And if not, who is the
- 5:05Speaker 1: greatest supergroup of all times? It the Traveling Wilburys, Is
- 5:08Speaker 1: it Cream? Audio, Slave Them, Crooked Vultures, Bell BIV, Devo?
- 5:13Speaker 1: Who do you got? Let me know? Six one seven
- 5:16Speaker 1: nine oh six six six three eight voicemail and text
- 5:21Speaker 1: at Disgrace slam pod on the social media's but I
- 5:25Speaker 1: love hearing your voice, just like I love hearing the
- 5:27Speaker 1: voice right here from James in the nine to one nine.
- 5:32Speaker 2: Hey Jake, this is James from North Carolina the nine
- 5:35Speaker 2: to one nine draftkin on the last episode, Who killed
- 5:38Speaker 2: Biggie Dude?
- 5:39Speaker 1: Everybody knows it. It's Ted Cruise?
- 5:41Speaker 2: Maybe it was John Denver, I can't remember, but it
- 5:44Speaker 2: was definitely Ted Peace.
- 5:47Speaker 1: Ted Cruz apparently has killed a lot of dudes. James H.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Biggie Smalls, John F. Kennedy, Actually not true. You know,
- 5:56Speaker 1: I like the voicemail, Thank you very much. It's funny.
- 5:59Speaker 2: Ted.
- 6:00Speaker 1: I got to tell you the uh that thing that
- 6:03Speaker 1: came out years ago, two thousand, I don't know when
- 6:06Speaker 1: it was seventeen eighteen that Ted Cruz had killed John F. Kennedy.
- 6:11Speaker 1: I thought it was really funny, but I didn't like
- 6:15Speaker 1: I had a bone to pick with it. I didn't
- 6:17Speaker 1: like how, you know, Ted Cruz, this isn't old enough
- 6:19Speaker 1: to have done that. And I thought it could have
- 6:21Speaker 1: been such a better sort of internet gag had they
- 6:25Speaker 1: done it with somebody who is age appropriate, who could
- 6:27Speaker 1: have withstood, you know, thirty seconds of internet research. And honestly,
- 6:33Speaker 1: that is what inspired me to do the Jim Morrison
- 6:36Speaker 1: as a Zodiac Killer episode. Is that Ted Cruz bit
- 6:39Speaker 1: that you're talking about regarding him having killed John F. Kennedy,
- 6:43Speaker 1: which of course he did not. Everyone knows that LBJ
- 6:46Speaker 1: killed jfk Just kidding. I don't actually think that, but
- 6:49Speaker 1: a lot of people do. But I'm not here for it.
- 6:51Speaker 1: I don't want to go down that conspiracy rabbit hole
- 6:54Speaker 1: right now. So let's check in with Grant in the
- 6:57Speaker 1: seven five seven YO.
- 7:00Speaker 2: What's going on you, beautiful folk? I love your podcast.
- 7:03Speaker 2: This is Grant once again because I got cut off
- 7:07Speaker 2: on my second message and I wasn't able to thank
- 7:11Speaker 2: you for making these amazing podcasts and expanding the way
- 7:15Speaker 2: that I view music. Your podcasts have helped me, like deeply,
- 7:20Speaker 2: and you know, in a lot of ways they get
- 7:24Speaker 2: me through hard times, but beyond that, they helped me
- 7:27Speaker 2: understand new music and stuff that I didn't like before,
- 7:32Speaker 2: which is fucking fantastic, and you helped tons of people
- 7:35Speaker 2: with that every day. I promise you that you're I mean,
- 7:39Speaker 2: I already liked Nirvana obviously when when you when I
- 7:44Speaker 2: heard your episode on it, but you're your two parter
- 7:48Speaker 2: on Courtney Love and Kurt Cope Baine like literally changed
- 7:52Speaker 2: the way I viewed music as a whole and just
- 7:55Speaker 2: viewed celebrity musicians as a whole. Yeah, that was an
- 8:01Speaker 2: amazing That's easily my favorite by you. I tell stories
- 8:05Speaker 2: that I've heard from your podcast to all my friends
- 8:08Speaker 2: kind to continue these legends of these amazing artists. So
- 8:13Speaker 2: thank you for preserving their legendary status in some ways.
- 8:20Speaker 2: But I appreciate that you're able to preserve that without
- 8:26Speaker 2: just dismissing the fucked up shit that they did. You
- 8:29Speaker 2: acknowledge that, and you're able to appreciate the music and
- 8:33Speaker 2: the legendary aspect of these artists without just blindly supporting
- 8:39Speaker 2: some fucked up shit they did. I think that's the way,
- 8:42Speaker 2: and more people should view music like they made some
- 8:46Speaker 2: great music. Want to know who didn't make some great music?
- 8:49Speaker 2: Fucking media, you know? Like, But yeah, keep it up, man,
- 8:53Speaker 2: awesome work.
- 8:53Speaker 1: I love you, Grant, I love you back, and I
- 8:56Speaker 1: love hearing this man. For me, loving music is all
- 9:00Speaker 1: about context and stuff I don't like now, I hold
- 9:03Speaker 1: space for potentially liking in the future because context is
- 9:06Speaker 1: always changing. How I hear things where I'm at, whant
- 9:09Speaker 1: to hear things where the group is, where the artist is,
- 9:11Speaker 1: et cetera. But generally speaking, keep spreading the love, Grant,
- 9:15Speaker 1: and I'll try to spread it right back. All right.
- 9:18Speaker 1: So let's hear another one. Another voicemail here from the
- 9:21Speaker 1: two eight one hit us up to answer the question
- 9:24Speaker 1: of great songs about famous people. So two eight one,
- 9:29Speaker 1: what do you got.
- 9:30Speaker 2: Hey, Jake guess Today? From the Great Today Texas Roberty
- 9:33Speaker 2: worked this morning.
- 9:34Speaker 1: You asked the.
- 9:34Speaker 2: Oday about bands that sang songs about famous people. The
- 9:38Speaker 2: maggots Let's get Tammy White and it was one of
- 9:41Speaker 2: my favorites from the kid. It still is. I'm sure
- 9:44Speaker 2: you know the story, but basically written about when Tammy
- 9:46Speaker 2: most likely got beaten up by her managers slash husband.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Whish Man's this whole story. But I actually got kidnapped
- 9:51Speaker 2: and got feed up and came out of the newspapers
- 9:54Speaker 2: all kind of stuff, and the maggots.
- 9:56Speaker 1: I'll take make a funny song about it.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Anyways, I would go to a man keep it up.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I never heard of the maggots, and I've never heard
- 10:02Speaker 1: of this Tammy Wynette story, but I'm here for it.
- 10:05Speaker 1: Sounds awesome, sounds like its own episode of Disgraceland. Amazing stuff.
- 10:09Speaker 1: I gotta run out to the grocery store later. Uh
- 10:12Speaker 1: got this new car, I got a great fucking stereo
- 10:14Speaker 1: system in it. I'm gonna cue up the maggots. I'm
- 10:16Speaker 1: gonna listen loud to this Tammy wy Net song. And
- 10:20Speaker 1: uh yeah, I've already I've already got Zeth Lundy here
- 10:22Speaker 1: at double Elvis HQ on this Tammy Wyett story. See
- 10:26Speaker 1: if we can dig something out. Haven't done a lot
- 10:28Speaker 1: of kidnapping stuff here in Disgraceland. So really really appreciative
- 10:33Speaker 1: of the nod toward this story and looking forward to
- 10:37Speaker 1: see what we can do with it. Uh six one
- 10:39Speaker 1: seven nine six six six three eight. With your voicemails
- 10:41Speaker 1: and your text guys, you can answer our stupid question
- 10:44Speaker 1: of the week, which is is Wu Tang Clan the
- 10:47Speaker 1: greatest supergroup of all time? Or you can hit me
- 10:49Speaker 1: up with an answer to any of our previous questions.
- 10:52Speaker 1: Is Ted Cruz a serial killer? Did Ted Cruz kill
- 10:54Speaker 1: John F. Kennedy? Of course not. Maybe he killed John F.
- 10:57Speaker 1: Kennedy Junior. No, he did not do that. Or just
- 11:00Speaker 1: introduce yourself. Let's be real. I love the introductions. I
- 11:03Speaker 1: love hearing about you guys. Voicemail works, but so to
- 11:06Speaker 1: do texts, just like this one from the seven seven
- 11:09Speaker 1: to five All Right Songs about musicians from the seven
- 11:12Speaker 1: seven to five Number five alanis by Morgan Wade. New song,
- 11:17Speaker 1: but it's a good one because it's Morgan Wade. I
- 11:19Speaker 1: don't know who Morgan Wade is, and I'm guessing it's
- 11:22Speaker 1: about Elana's Morissette. Number four with David Bowie by Veruka Salt.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I never heard that. I need to hear that. Number
- 11:27Speaker 1: three Vinyl Records by Todd Snyder. Actually probably my fave
- 11:31Speaker 1: on the list, but it's more about a great record collection, Okay.
- 11:35Speaker 1: Number two Johnny Yce is Dead by Dave Alvin. Number
- 11:39Speaker 1: one Alcohol and Pills by Freddy Eaglesmith about multiple musicians.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Todd Snyder version is great, but I'm giving credit. Enjoy
- 11:46Speaker 1: Brent seven to seven five. You know, I don't know
- 11:48Speaker 1: any of these fucking songs, but uh yeah, I gotta
- 11:52Speaker 1: check him out. We gotta check him out. Right back, Brent,
- 11:54Speaker 1: I'll tell you my story about Dave Alvin playing my guitar.
- 11:56Speaker 1: It was a highlight, all right. We did a Velvet
- 11:59Speaker 1: under Ground episode couple weeks back. Get this text from
- 12:04Speaker 1: the three four seven on velvets says VU have the
- 12:07Speaker 1: distinction of the greatest difference between their popularity and influence.
- 12:12Speaker 1: So says Adam from the two to one two. Yeah,
- 12:18Speaker 1: I think that is a very accurate depiction of the
- 12:22Speaker 1: Velvet Underground, all right, from the nine seven eight right
- 12:26Speaker 1: saying shout out to you. I listen when painting my ducks.
- 12:29Speaker 1: And then there is a link to WCVB dot com
- 12:33Speaker 1: an article on woodlawn ducks made in Massachusetts. Pepprell. This
- 12:37Speaker 1: is from Ducks for Cancer. Well, thank you. Keep painting
- 12:41Speaker 1: those ducks, especially if you're painting them for cancer. From
- 12:44Speaker 1: the eight three to one, I honestly feel like she
- 12:47Speaker 1: is behind PAC's death pack. Was supposedly trying to leave
- 12:50Speaker 1: death row. I'm just gonna leave that there, all right.
- 12:54Speaker 1: From the five to four to row more random thoughts, okay.
- 12:57Speaker 1: So Belinda Carlisle, singer The Go Goes, obviously was also
- 13:00Speaker 1: the drummer for the Germs in like nineteen seventy seven.
- 13:02Speaker 1: She never recorded anything with them. It was her and
- 13:04Speaker 1: Pat Smer, who obviously later was in the Foo Fighters.
- 13:07Speaker 1: Just some La punk scene tidbit, Steve Frosty, my friend Deuces. Listen, Deuces.
- 13:11Speaker 1: Did you know that Belinda Carlisle and the Gogs lived
- 13:13Speaker 1: in a house that they called Disgraceland. I'm sure you did.
- 13:16Speaker 1: We have a Gogs episode coming up. Don't hate me
- 13:18Speaker 1: for the Disgraceland name, all right. From the five to
- 13:21Speaker 1: six one. I just heard that you are coming to Bumblefest.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Can I please connect you with the dude who runs it?
- 13:28Speaker 2: Sure?
- 13:28Speaker 1: Man, Yeah, I'll be at Bumblefest this week in West Palm, Florida.
- 13:33Speaker 1: If anyone's around and you see me, come say hi,
- 13:36Speaker 1: all right, gonna be chilling watching some good music. All right.
- 13:39Speaker 1: You guys know how to text, You know how to
- 13:40Speaker 1: get in touch with me. Six one seven nine O
- 13:42Speaker 1: six six six three eight. Can leave me a voicemail
- 13:45Speaker 1: or a text. Voicemail or a text. But I like
- 13:48Speaker 1: the voicemails. I like the text too, but I like
- 13:51Speaker 1: hearing your voice. Can also DM me at Disgrace, lampod, Twitter, Instagram, whatever, X, Facebook,
- 13:58Speaker 1: all the places. I'm there. I'm gonna take a quick
- 14:00Speaker 1: break back with your dms in just a second. All right,
- 14:24Speaker 1: we are back. Let's get into some dms. All right.
- 14:27Speaker 1: This one comes from get used to Adriana on Instagram Rights.
- 14:33Speaker 1: This is Adriana, Hi, Jake. I've been listening to your
- 14:35Speaker 1: podcast for quite a while, Hirst, and they were only
- 14:37Speaker 1: on your website, then on Amazon Music, and now in
- 14:40Speaker 1: the feed of Spotify that I finally caught up with.
- 14:43Speaker 1: That took me forever, to be honest, but I have
- 14:45Speaker 1: learned so much from them. I'm a huge fan of
- 14:47Speaker 1: everything you do. I listened for the first time your
- 14:49Speaker 1: voice with a podcast you had with Payne Lindsay related
- 14:52Speaker 1: to The Grateful Dead. Anyways, Adriana's talking about a show
- 14:55Speaker 1: I did with Pain called Dead and Gone. She goes
- 14:56Speaker 1: on to say, anyway, I didn't want to write to
- 14:58Speaker 1: you until I finished all of the p you have
- 15:00Speaker 1: put out now about me, since you mentioned in previous
- 15:04Speaker 1: episodes you wanted to know about your listeners. I am
- 15:06Speaker 1: a Mexican and live in Mexico City, a single mom
- 15:09Speaker 1: of a nineteen year old woman. I work at a
- 15:11Speaker 1: publishing house. My passions are books, music, and movies in
- 15:15Speaker 1: that specific order. I suggest whoever asks me your podcasts,
- 15:19Speaker 1: and I love Pains as well. My daughter and I
- 15:21Speaker 1: have certain paranormal gifts and whoa, Okay, here we go,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and have had some paranormal activity in her place with
- 15:28Speaker 1: the episodes of Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, Mac Miller, and
- 15:32Speaker 1: The Grateful Dead. Just FYI, Cobaine isn't in a happy
- 15:36Speaker 1: afterlife place, neither is Amy, but mac Miller and Jerry
- 15:39Speaker 1: Garcia are great. Great great text, Adrianna, Thank you, thanks
- 15:46Speaker 1: for the love. Appreciate it. Cody writes in Jake, just
- 15:51Speaker 1: listen to the episode where you mentioned listening to new
- 15:53Speaker 1: hardcore bands and I got a few recommendations. Check out
- 15:56Speaker 1: drain Mind for Scowl, Military Guy and pain of truth.
- 16:01Speaker 1: If you have a chance. As a hardcore kid from
- 16:04Speaker 1: Portland parentheses not a kid, I am proud to recommend
- 16:07Speaker 1: some jams for you. Keep up the good work. Well,
- 16:09Speaker 1: thanks man, I really appreciate this, Cody. I was just
- 16:12Speaker 1: thinking this you're gonna hear later. I was thinking I
- 16:14Speaker 1: needed some new heavy music, so this is awesome. Thanks,
- 16:18Speaker 1: David Flynn writes and hello, sir. I have been a
- 16:20Speaker 1: graphic designer for forty three years, in counting ad agencies
- 16:24Speaker 1: for fourteen, my own studio for twenty nine. I teach
- 16:26Speaker 1: graphic design and creative thinking at the University of Akron
- 16:29Speaker 1: here in Akron, Ohio. It's my fourteenth year. Big fun.
- 16:32Speaker 1: Loved these young minds and I'm having a great time.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Thanks for everything. My best to you and your family.
- 16:38Speaker 1: All right, David, thanks for introducing yourselfs dude, appreciate that
- 16:42Speaker 1: teaching the youth, the youth of today. This one comes
- 16:45Speaker 1: from Aaron in the two seven Rites. First, I haven't
- 16:48Speaker 1: introduced myself yet. I work remotely as a BSA for
- 16:52Speaker 1: a global marketing company. I make all the data work
- 16:55Speaker 1: behind all the loyalty programs and brands that people interact
- 16:58Speaker 1: with all the time boring, but it well. I listen
- 17:01Speaker 1: to your podcast while I do some of my more
- 17:03Speaker 1: mindless work, or while I'm doing my nails for my
- 17:07Speaker 1: bad tattoo. I was a basic bitch in the two thousands,
- 17:09Speaker 1: and I got a pissy symbol on my hip when
- 17:11Speaker 1: I was eighteen. Not my best choice. But here we are.
- 17:14Speaker 1: Love your podcast. I'm a podcast junkie and I always
- 17:16Speaker 1: look forward to yours because they're short and sweet and
- 17:18Speaker 1: get to the point and do it so well. Keep
- 17:20Speaker 1: up the good work to you and your team. Rock
- 17:22Speaker 1: A Rolla. Thanks Aaron, nice to meet you. Sorry about
- 17:24Speaker 1: the bad too. It happens, though, I think we all
- 17:27Speaker 1: got them. Everyone's got one, right, Probably not everyone? All right?
- 17:31Speaker 1: What else we got? Dean Arnold at Hagis Flinger right,
- 17:36Speaker 1: sin at Disgrace, lamdpod Ira and Charlie Louvin hated each other.
- 17:39Speaker 1: Hashtag country beef. That would be a great Disgraceland episode. Dean, great, great, great,
- 17:44Speaker 1: Thank you, nice work. Caleb Clark writ sin you mentioned
- 17:49Speaker 1: the Smashing Pumpkins had no crime element, but they had
- 17:53Speaker 1: a keyboard player that overdosed some speculated Jimmy Chamberlain, the
- 17:57Speaker 1: drummer was with the keyboard player when he overdosed. It
- 17:59Speaker 1: may pulled the needle pluncher. Ooh nasty, kind of swept
- 18:03Speaker 1: under the rug. Well, Caleb, you might be onto something.
- 18:06Speaker 1: I'm gonna look into that. Adam Steffi writes in Great show,
- 18:10Speaker 1: you should do an episode on Neil Young. Maybe I
- 18:12Speaker 1: don't know. Maybe, uh check out Neil Young in the
- 18:16Speaker 1: Rick James episode if you need a quick Neil Young fix.
- 18:19Speaker 1: And Austin Weber writes in on Facebook, Yo, do you
- 18:23Speaker 1: guys need an editor for your podcast to turn into reels? Possibly? Austin,
- 18:27Speaker 1: Possibly get back to me, all right, DM me guys
- 18:31Speaker 1: at Disgraceline Pod, Facebook, Twitter, Slash, x TikTok, Instagram. That's
- 18:36Speaker 1: how you get a hold of me. You can always
- 18:37Speaker 1: call me as well. Six one seven nine oh six
- 18:39Speaker 1: six six three eight. I'm gonna take a quick break.
- 18:41Speaker 1: I'll be back with some recommendations after this. The recommendations part.
- 18:59Speaker 1: This is the recommendations part, the part where we recommend
- 19:02Speaker 1: the things that need recommending, The recommendations part. I am
- 19:05Speaker 1: in a heavy music phase right now, guys, Uh, trying
- 19:08Speaker 1: to get into some more modern hardcore and heavy music.
- 19:10Speaker 1: But it's hard Spotify recommends like a mad ball tune
- 19:13Speaker 1: or Sick of it All or killing Time, and I'm
- 19:15Speaker 1: just sucked right back into old Headland. And there's a reason.
- 19:19Speaker 1: It's because that music is awesome. But but but up, up,
- 19:21Speaker 1: Up up. But I have been listening to in Sendier,
- 19:24Speaker 1: a newish kind of Newish Newish yeah newish band or
- 19:27Speaker 1: at least current hardcore band from Long Island. Listening to
- 19:30Speaker 1: Power Trip, who are of course broken up but modern.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Uh found myself listening to Born to Expire, the full
- 19:36Speaker 1: length album by Leeway that wasn't on Spotify forever it
- 19:40Speaker 1: is now. I was listening over the weekend. It's a scorcher,
- 19:42Speaker 1: not a bad song on it. Great crossover New York
- 19:45Speaker 1: hardcore and thrash metal. Uh completely holds up after all
- 19:48Speaker 1: these years for those of you who are interested in
- 19:51Speaker 1: that sort of thing. I don't know what's up. I
- 19:54Speaker 1: think it's because I mentioned this earlier. I got a
- 19:56Speaker 1: new car in the stereo. I just I'm loving it,
- 20:00Speaker 1: kind of loving it, not totally loving it. But it's
- 20:02Speaker 1: an excuse to listen to loud, heavy music. And that's
- 20:06Speaker 1: that's what I'm doing. Also, not heavy music, but heavy
- 20:10Speaker 1: in a different way is Lou Reed's Take No Prisoners
- 20:14Speaker 1: live album from nineteen seventy eight. I had one of
- 20:18Speaker 1: these moments at the gym the other day. I'm in
- 20:20Speaker 1: a new gym and I was working out and I
- 20:24Speaker 1: was listening to this record and this hasn't happened to
- 20:27Speaker 1: me in so long. It's a live album, it's recorded
- 20:32Speaker 1: at I believe the bottom line is the club in
- 20:36Speaker 1: New York. I might be fucking that up. I hope not.
- 20:40Speaker 1: And nineteen seventy eight, late seventies at least lou bad, bad,
- 20:45Speaker 1: bad point in Lou Reed's career. And I was talking
- 20:49Speaker 1: to a friend about this record and he summed it
- 20:51Speaker 1: up perfectly. He said that this is sort of Lou
- 20:53Speaker 1: Reed doing Lenny Bruce with just a scorch and band,
- 20:58Speaker 1: and it's Lou unhinged and you can really hear the crowd.
- 21:02Speaker 1: It's a tiny, tiny club. If it is the bottom line,
- 21:05Speaker 1: I think I've been there before so I know it.
- 21:08Speaker 1: And if that's the club I'm thinking of, it's really small.
- 21:10Speaker 1: You can because of that, you can really hear the
- 21:12Speaker 1: audience and what they're saying to Lou and what Lou
- 21:15Speaker 1: sang back in the songs in between the songs and
- 21:18Speaker 1: the banter, and it really transported me. It really not
- 21:24Speaker 1: to sound cheesy but in trite, but it took me away.
- 21:28Speaker 1: It took me like and I was active, I was
- 21:30Speaker 1: doing stuff, I was working out, but I was just
- 21:31Speaker 1: like in my fucking head in another place in the
- 21:35Speaker 1: nineteen seventies, and I opened my eyes and I was
- 21:39Speaker 1: in the total opposite of that in twenty twenty three.
- 21:45Speaker 1: But just a great record. If you're into lou if
- 21:47Speaker 1: you're into the Velvets and that sort of thing, check
- 21:49Speaker 1: out Take No Prisoners if you want to be transported
- 21:52Speaker 1: back to the seventies. Highly recommend this album. Also listening
- 21:56Speaker 1: to Death Valley Girls. Gonna go see them this weekend
- 21:58Speaker 1: at Bumblefest in West Palm. My buddy Adam Wiener's band,
- 22:02Speaker 1: Lokuk Connie's got a new single and it's great. It's
- 22:05Speaker 1: called King of the Jews and it's part of Loka
- 22:07Speaker 1: Connie's Art Dealers EP. Loka Connie's playing at Sinclair and
- 22:11Speaker 1: Cambridge in a couple of days, Gonna sell out. So
- 22:14Speaker 1: Boston folks, you want to see the last greatest rock
- 22:17Speaker 1: and roll band live, you can get your tickets for
- 22:18Speaker 1: Low Cut Connie. Now, you got a lot of my
- 22:21Speaker 1: friends who listened to this know this. Loka Kannie is
- 22:24Speaker 1: one of my favorite bands. I was a fan before
- 22:27Speaker 1: I knew them. I loved their music. I would go
- 22:31Speaker 1: see them play, saw their first shows. I don't think
- 22:33Speaker 1: I saw their first show in Boston, but I definitely
- 22:35Speaker 1: saw their second show. I think I took my sister
- 22:37Speaker 1: to it, my little sister, Steph. But just you know,
- 22:41Speaker 1: just one of the benefits of making Disgraceland is it
- 22:45Speaker 1: connected me with these guys and Adam the lead singer
- 22:49Speaker 1: and piano player, and I've collaborated numerous times, including our
- 22:52Speaker 1: performance at Newport Folk Festival last year. And I'm just yeah,
- 22:56Speaker 1: it's just a very cool experience I've been able to
- 22:59Speaker 1: have over the last five years. And Adam and I,
- 23:02Speaker 1: I say, all this is a way to tease that
- 23:03Speaker 1: Adam and I are cooking something up for you guys
- 23:05Speaker 1: currently that we're gonna have. I'll have more for you
- 23:09Speaker 1: in the next couple of days. But but but if
- 23:13Speaker 1: if you're in Boston, you're in the Boston area, cop
- 23:16Speaker 1: those Lowka Connie tickets for next week's show at Sinclair
- 23:19Speaker 1: amazing band, amazing venue. All right, what are you guys
- 23:22Speaker 1: listening to? What music related content are you watching? Six
- 23:26Speaker 1: one seven nine oh six six six three eight. To
- 23:29Speaker 1: let me know, I'm gonna take a quick break. I'm
- 23:31Speaker 1: gonna drink some tea and I'll be back after this.
- 23:45Speaker 1: All right, let's recap, shall we. Number one, the trailer

- 24:09Speaker 1: Ray Kwon on Thursday, which also means again that for
- 24:12Speaker 1: the next few weeks we're not gonna have these after
- 24:14Speaker 1: party episodes, but we will be hitting your voicemails and
- 24:16Speaker 1: text in the pre party mini episodes on Monday, so
