Latest / The Daily Writer / This Podcast is Terrible
Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Hey my friend.
- 0:01SPEAKER_00: Welcome to the Daily Writer, where we help writers become authors of their own lives.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: True confession time.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: Sometimes when I write the first draft of one of the emails this podcast is based on, I think to myself, this email is terrible.
- 0:17SPEAKER_00: The ideas don't make sense and nobody's gonna like it.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: Or at least that's what I think to myself for a brief moment.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Maybe you've thought that about your own stuff also.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: The problem with that kind of thinking is that you don't know if it's gonna land with people and you don't know if they're gonna like it.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: So I say, why not give it a shot?
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: Case in point, last week when I was launching my new book called The Ghost Powered Author, my wife took a fun picture of our two cats, Neela and Cooper, sitting on the dining room table around a box of my author copies.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: Now, Neela, who is our older female cat, was licking the flap of the cardboard box, which is pretty typical behavior for her.
- 0:56SPEAKER_00: And Cooper, our much younger male cat, who also happens to be orange, and it's true what they say about orange cats, I think, he was staring off into space as usual.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: My wife thought the picture would make a fun social media post, but I didn't think so at first, you know, being a big serious author and all.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: But the next day I made a post about my book with a cat picture because honestly, I didn't have anything else to post that day.
- 1:19SPEAKER_00: And to my surprise, people really loved the picture and they loved the post.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: I just made it sort of fun, and of course, the post featured that picture of my two cats around my author copies.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: At first I thought the whole post was kind of a silly idea, but I was wrong.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: So guess who's gonna be featured in more social media posts moving forward?
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: Yes, you guessed it, Neela and Cooper.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So whether it's a social media post or an email or some other piece of writing, don't assume that it's terrible or that other people aren't gonna like it, because sometimes you just have to put stuff out there and get real information about whether it actually works.
- 1:54SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna be doing that more often for sure, and I suggest you go and do likewise.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: And by the way, if you haven't yet gotten your hot little hands on a free copy of my new book, The Ghost Powered Author, you can do so by going to Kent Sanders.net slash free dashbook.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: That's KentSanders.net slash free dashbook.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Cats not included.
- 2:16SPEAKER_00: Hey, thanks for listening.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Keep writing and keep showing up, and I'll see you tomorrow.
