Transcript
- 0:07Speaker 1: Good morning. No, this is not Ted Koppel in Nightline
- 0:10Speaker 1: from my childhood.
- 0:11Speaker 2: I mean, I would love to have gotten the opportunity
- 0:15Speaker 2: to meet him.
- 0:15Speaker 1: Oh, man, he was great. I did, and he was phenomenal.
- 0:17Speaker 3: But you were equally.
- 0:18Speaker 1: He was phenomenal. The news is, the breaking news here.
- 0:22Speaker 1: Good morning on a Tuesday here on 93.3 KJFM. Greg
- 0:25Speaker 1: Bell and Jess Mackey. The breaking news. The Seahawks have
- 0:28Speaker 1: made a trade with the Indianapolis Colts. Multiple reports saying
- 0:32Speaker 1: they are sending a third-round pick, a fifth-round pick to
- 0:35Speaker 1: the Indianapolis Colts for three-time All-Pro guard Quentin Nelson. Nelson's
- 0:41Speaker 1: in the final year of his contract. He did 30
- 0:44Speaker 1: in May. He was an All-Pro in each of the
- 0:46Speaker 1: first three seasons in the league with the Colts, the Colts'
- 0:49Speaker 1: sixth overall pick in 2018. His four-year $ 80 million contract
- 0:54Speaker 1: ends with the end of this season. He's been a primarily,
- 0:59Speaker 1: not primarily, has been a left guard with the Colts.
- 1:02Speaker 1: The Seahawks already have one of those, of course, and
- 1:03Speaker 1: Gray Zabel, for the foreseeable future, the stud left guard.
- 1:08Speaker 1: We're going to talk about what this means for Anthony Bradford,
- 1:10Speaker 1: for Zabel. There you go. Ted Koppel redo.
- 1:16Speaker 3: Well, I'd like to keep it playing.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Seahawks trading for Quentin Nelson, sending a third and a fifth.
- 1:21Speaker 1: I can't imagine this is a rental. I think that
- 1:25Speaker 1: John Schneider would not make this deal for two draft
- 1:28Speaker 1: picks if he didn't think he could re-sign Nelson beyond
- 1:31Speaker 1: this season. Reminds me of the Dwayne Brown trade, the
- 1:34Speaker 1: left tackle from the Houston Texans who was acquired on
- 1:36Speaker 1: an expiring contract and soon after the Seahawks gave him
- 1:39Speaker 1: an extension and he became a pillar on the offensive line.
- 1:42Speaker 1: That appears to me at first blush what's going on
- 1:45Speaker 1: here with the Seahawks trading for Quentin Nelson. I can't
- 1:47Speaker 1: imagine they'd give up a third and a fifth of
- 1:49Speaker 1: just having for three months, right? So we'll talk about
- 1:53Speaker 1: how he may fit. We'll talk about how Charles Cross's
- 1:56Speaker 1: injury at left tackle might affect all this. Seahawks trading
- 2:00Speaker 1: for Quentin Nelson, the three-time All-Pro guard, when the Indianapolis Colts.
- 2:05Speaker 3: And now let's get to the rest of the headlines.
- 2:07Speaker 4: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR
- 2:12Speaker 4: FM Sports Headlines.
- 2:14Speaker 1: So beyond the trade for Quentin Nelson, the Seahawks may
- 2:17Speaker 1: get Jadarian Price and Zach Charbonnet back playing Monday night
- 2:19Speaker 1: against the Bears. Or one might play, or neither might play.
- 2:24Speaker 1: That's what Coach Mike McDonald said yesterday. He's lapped Pete
- 2:27Speaker 1: Carroll in obtuse injury information.
- 2:31Speaker 3: He's gotten pretty good.
- 2:32Speaker 1: He's just obtuse now. About Charles Cross yesterday, you know
- 2:36Speaker 1: what he said? He's got an ankle. It's Monday.
- 2:38Speaker 3: And then the follow-up was also, is it a high ankle?
- 2:42Speaker 1: He's got an ankle. So I learned yesterday that Charles
- 2:45Speaker 1: Cross still has both of his ankles after playing against
- 2:47Speaker 1: the Chiefs. That's good news.
- 2:49Speaker 3: To be honest, Mike McDonald only.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Referenced one of them.
- 2:53Speaker 2: That's true.
- 2:53Speaker 1: He might only have one ankle now. He said he
- 2:55Speaker 1: had an ankle.
- 2:56Speaker 3: He's pretty good. I think there is some P. Carroll
- 3:00Speaker 3: book that he has read.
- 3:01Speaker 1: He's lapped P. Carroll. Carroll would have given you more
- 3:04Speaker 1: than that. Rashid Shaheed's knee injury, quote, early returns are positive,
- 3:09Speaker 1: Coach Mike McDonald said. Seahawks play next Monday night against
- 3:12Speaker 1: the 5-2 Chicago Bears. The Cowboys ran the ball for
- 3:14Speaker 1: 200 yards last night, beat the Eagles with their Philadelphia's
- 3:17Speaker 1: backup quarterback Dallas, now 3-4, which puts them right in
- 3:20Speaker 1: the middle of it in the NFC East, right? Giants
- 3:22Speaker 1: lead that Division at 4, 2, and 1. At 11 o'clock,
- 3:25Speaker 1: we're going to talk to Jory Epstein, a Yahoo Sports
- 3:27Speaker 1: senior NFL writer. She's in Philadelphia. She was in the
- 3:29Speaker 1: stadium last night for the Cowboys and the Eagles, and
- 3:32Speaker 1: she'll tell us a bunch about what's going on in
- 3:34Speaker 1: the Eagles. Jalen Hurts, the league and the players' union,
- 3:38Speaker 1: a joint investigation of how they handled Jalen Hurts. We're
- 3:41Speaker 1: going to talk to Jory about that at 11 o'clock.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Yeah, that one has legs, that entire story.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Jay-Z is going to be the halftime show in Super
- 3:49Speaker 1: Bowl 61 in February. Are you in favor? You like that, Jessalyn?
- 3:53Speaker 2: I have enjoyed many of a halftime show, and the
- 3:56Speaker 2: ones that I haven't, I just don't care. Yeah, I
- 4:01Speaker 2: have my favorites. And I really, I was at the
- 4:05Speaker 2: Super Bowl this year when the Seahawks won, by the way.
- 4:10Speaker 3: I really love Bad Bunny's performance.
- 4:12Speaker 2: And where we were set up for the media, I
- 4:15Speaker 2: actually was hanging out with all the people who were
- 4:17Speaker 2: part of the show.
- 4:19Speaker 3: And after that show ended, I had to go back.
- 4:22Speaker 2: To get my laptop in that same area, and the
- 4:25Speaker 2: band continued all of this.
- 4:27Speaker 1: They looked like moving trees from the press box.
- 4:29Speaker 2: It was made for TV for sure. I got to
- 4:31Speaker 2: watch them get ready, and I thought that was really fun.
- 4:34Speaker 1: I'll take that as a no for Jay-Z. You didn't
- 4:36Speaker 1: answer the question. I haven't seen him in person. That
- 4:40Speaker 1: must be a no, because I said, are you in favor,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and you went off on a bad bunny thing.
- 4:44Speaker 2: I was saying the Super Bowl performances that I've enjoyed
- 4:48Speaker 2: are not necessarily concerts that I've been to. And so
- 4:52Speaker 2: I have not been to a Jay-Z concert. I have
- 4:55Speaker 2: very much enjoyed Super Bowl halftime shows by artists I
- 4:59Speaker 2: haven't seen.
- 4:59Speaker 3: That was my point.
- 5:00Speaker 1: Put Jessamyn down for a note. I did not say no!
- 5:02Speaker 1: Kraken are practicing today. Going to host Toronto tomorrow night
- 5:05Speaker 1: at Climate Pledge Arena. The Washington Huskies are practicing to
- 5:07Speaker 1: play at Nebraska 5 p.m. on Saturday right here on
- 5:10Speaker 1: 93.3 KJRFM. Dead Fish is keeping everybody guessing whether Elijah
- 5:15Speaker 1: Brown or DeMond Williams is going to be the quarterback.
- 5:17Speaker 1: for the huskies on saturday the washington state cougars are
- 5:20Speaker 1: playing at san diego state justin will be there in
- 5:22Speaker 1: san diego on saturday oregon ducks quarterback dante moore could
- 5:26Speaker 1: have left for the nfl asking somebody who's going to
- 5:28Speaker 1: be a top 10 pick he stayed at oregon now
- 5:31Speaker 1: he's out for the season a month after he sustained
- 5:33Speaker 1: a concussion his ducks are four and three the world
- 5:38Speaker 1: series the brewers man i would love to have a
- 5:41Speaker 1: team in our town that played like the brewers wouldn't
- 5:42Speaker 1: you No exit velocities, no launch angles, just line drives
- 5:47Speaker 1: all over the yard. Eight runs in the inning bearing
- 5:50Speaker 1: Tampa Bay last night and a 10-1 Milwaukee win in
- 5:54Speaker 1: Game 3 of the World Series. Milwaukee now 3-0 series
- 5:57Speaker 1: lead over the Rays. Game 4 is tonight in Tampa Bay.
- 6:00Speaker 1: And now on with the Tuesday show. Justin McIntyre with
- 6:03Speaker 1: Greg Bell in the studios of Elliott Bay in rainy Seattle.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Finally rainy Seattle. Feels like it hasn't rained in about
- 6:09Speaker 1: six months. It's a Kraken ticket Tuesday. Yeah, every hour
- 6:13Speaker 1: on the hour from 6 a.m. up to 7 p.m.,
- 6:17Speaker 1: you'll hear a fairy horn, which is what they play
- 6:19Speaker 1: when the Sounders score at Climate Pleasure Inn. Then you'll
- 6:21Speaker 1: hear Everett Fitzhugh's voice, a familiar voice here on your
- 6:25Speaker 1: Home of the Kraken. When you hear that, be the
- 6:27Speaker 1: 10th caller to 206-286-9595. You will win two tickets. The
- 6:31Speaker 1: 10th caller will win two tickets to see the Kraken
- 6:34Speaker 1: play November 4th against the Calgary Flames, their personal punching
- 6:38Speaker 1: bag so far this season. They play the Flames twice
- 6:40Speaker 1: this week.
- 6:41Speaker 3: I'm really happy to hear that.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Yeah, they get the Flames on Friday night and then
- 6:45Speaker 1: the return match November 4th.
- 6:47Speaker 5: It's been pretty successful.
- 6:48Speaker 3: And I'm representing Matty B today.
- 6:50Speaker 1: I see that.
- 6:50Speaker 6: Yes.
- 6:51Speaker 1: Matty Beneers raising the 12 flag the other night at
- 6:53Speaker 1: the Seahawks-Chiefs game.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Love that.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Wearing a number 10 throwback royal blue jersey. His Matty
- 6:59Speaker 1: Beneers jersey. It said Beneers, not cup on the back,
- 7:01Speaker 1: I think. I'm pretty sure. He was on the little platform.
- 7:04Speaker 3: Oh, I couldn't see it.
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:05Speaker 1: Yeah, he was on the platform above me in Lumen Field.
- 7:09Speaker 1: Cracking Ticket Tuesday. We do it every Tuesday. Pretty cool deal.
- 7:13Speaker 1: Two tickets. All you got to do is be the
- 7:14Speaker 1: 10th caller at 206-286-9595. Listen for the horn. Listen for
- 7:17Speaker 1: Ever Fit You. We'll play that once every hour all
- 7:20Speaker 1: day through Dave Softy Muller and Dick Fane. This afternoon,
- 7:23Speaker 1: if you missed the news at the very top of
- 7:25Speaker 1: the show with the Ted Koppel Nightline joiner, the Seahawks are,
- 7:31Speaker 1: per multiple reports, the Seahawks are trading for Quentin Nelson,
- 7:34Speaker 1: the all-pro guard from the Indianapolis Colts. He's an $ 80
- 7:38Speaker 1: million guard. He's in the final year of his contract.
- 7:41Speaker 1: final months of his contract, in fact. He turned 30
- 7:44Speaker 1: in May. He's a three-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro Bowler.
- 7:48Speaker 1: This guy's good. This is one of the preeminent guards
- 7:51Speaker 1: in the league. They think they already have one in
- 7:55Speaker 1: Gray Zabel on the left side. Nelson has been a
- 7:57Speaker 1: left guard. So now what? Anthony Bradford just came back
- 8:01Speaker 1: from injury reserve last week to play for the first
- 8:04Speaker 1: time in a month. His contract is ending, too, and
- 8:06Speaker 1: Jessamyn Knowing John Schneider, the way he has operated in
- 8:10Speaker 1: 17 years, I've known him for every one of those years,
- 8:12Speaker 1: he's not into renting players, to giving up draft picks,
- 8:15Speaker 1: multiple picks, just to have a player for a couple months.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Think Rashid Shaheed last year. Think Dwayne Brown. He makes
- 8:23Speaker 1: it a priority. Before he trades for these type of players,
- 8:26Speaker 1: he goes to the agents, okay, what's it going to
- 8:27Speaker 1: take to keep him beyond this season? He would not
- 8:31Speaker 1: make this deal if he didn't already have an idea
- 8:33Speaker 1: what it will take to re-sign Quentin Nelson. So it
- 8:36Speaker 1: appears to me that Quentin Nelson and Gray Zabel will
- 8:39Speaker 1: be the guards going forward. Zabel, of course, only two
- 8:41Speaker 1: years into his four-year rookie deal with a fifth-year option.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I think this spells Anthony Bradford's route out of town.
- 8:48Speaker 1: There's no way, right, that you're going to trade two picks,
- 8:51Speaker 1: even if it's third and fifth. Third to John Schneider
- 8:53Speaker 1: is they got Russell Wilson in the third round. I mean,
- 8:56Speaker 1: third round is a pick. And they trade him. They're
- 8:59Speaker 1: going to keep him. They're going to re-sign him, as
- 9:01Speaker 1: they did Shaheed. as they did Dwayne Brown, as they
- 9:04Speaker 1: did Leonard Williams when they made a midseason trade. He's
- 9:08Speaker 1: not in the rentals. He's doing this to me with
- 9:10Speaker 1: a purpose beyond 2026. It would appear that means Anthony
- 9:14Speaker 1: Bradford would be leaving. Now they have three guards. Could
- 9:18Speaker 1: Bradford perhaps be part of a trade before November 10th' s
- 9:21Speaker 1: trade deadline? But it would look like to me Anthony
- 9:25Speaker 1: Bradford is the odd man out. Of course the coaches
- 9:29Speaker 1: have said they loved Anthony Bradford, love him more than
- 9:31Speaker 1: probably a lot of you do who put your GIFs
- 9:33Speaker 1: or GIFs or whatever those called on the internet.
- 9:35Speaker 3: He was a welcome back, for sure.
- 9:37Speaker 1: It sure worked, didn't it? He got a 100-yard rusher
- 9:40Speaker 1: and no sacks.
- 9:43Speaker 2: Without your two top running backs on the field?
- 9:45Speaker 1: Right. It just strikes me, knowing how John Schneider does business,
- 9:50Speaker 1: that he would not make this move and trade two
- 9:52Speaker 1: picks for someone he's only going to get for a
- 9:54Speaker 1: few months. So, to me, Quentin Nelson is going to
- 9:58Speaker 1: be the guard. I would think right guard, I don't
- 10:01Speaker 1: think he moved Gray Zabel as great as Zabel has been. Now,
- 10:04Speaker 1: Anderson Hurst floated something to me as I was coming
- 10:07Speaker 1: into the studio here and they were departing from the
- 10:08Speaker 1: morning show. Maybe what does this have to do with
- 10:12Speaker 1: Charles Cross's injury? And maybe in the meantime, one of
- 10:14Speaker 1: those guards can play tackle. Could Gray Zabel move out
- 10:17Speaker 1: to tackle? Could Anthony Bradford's never played tackle. You wouldn't
- 10:23Speaker 1: move Bradford from the right guard to left tackle, you
- 10:25Speaker 1: wouldn't think.
- 10:25Speaker 2: No, that's quite a shift because guards are very different
- 10:29Speaker 2: than tackles.
- 10:29Speaker 3: And that's the other side of the line.
- 10:31Speaker 1: Spoken like a lineman coach's daughter.
- 10:34Speaker 3: Hey, my dad played offensive line.
- 10:36Speaker 2: He just became a defensive coach.
- 10:39Speaker 1: It's in your genes. But there is now, they have
- 10:44Speaker 1: three starting guards for two positions with a left tackle injured.
- 10:48Speaker 6: So.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Josh Jones has been the veteran swing backup tackle that
- 10:52Speaker 1: has replaced Charles Cross when he got hurt the other night.
- 10:56Speaker 1: The high ankle sprain reportedly, Ian Rappaport of NFL Network
- 10:59Speaker 1: reported yesterday afternoon that Cross has a high ankle sprain
- 11:01Speaker 1: and will miss one or two games. And Mike McDonald
- 11:04Speaker 1: pumped the brakes on all of that yesterday. He said, no, no, no.
- 11:07Speaker 1: He's got an ankle. It's Monday. We'll see what's going on.
- 11:09Speaker 1: He wouldn't even admit to a high ankle sprain, which
- 11:12Speaker 1: is ligament damage further up the knee and the shin.
- 11:15Speaker 5: So.
- 11:16Speaker 1: Here we go. The Seahawks make a big move. It's
- 11:18Speaker 1: not for a running back. And we talked about how
- 11:21Speaker 1: it's probably not going to be for Jonathan Taylor or
- 11:22Speaker 1: Saquon Barkley, because if you did that, why would you
- 11:25Speaker 1: take on 16, $ 18 million a year and lose a
- 11:28Speaker 1: first or second round pick when you could have just
- 11:30Speaker 1: re re re signed Kenneth Walker for less without giving
- 11:33Speaker 1: up any picks. So to me, it doesn't make sense
- 11:35Speaker 1: that they're going to make some splash move there, but
- 11:38Speaker 1: here's your splash move every year in the middle of
- 11:41Speaker 1: the season. Mike, John Schneider looks at his roster and says,
- 11:45Speaker 1: what do we need to augment? And he said, interior
- 11:48Speaker 1: offensive line, let's go get a three-time All-Pro. What's it
- 11:51Speaker 1: going to take? And this is the move. Quinton Nelson
- 11:53Speaker 1: from the reeling Colts to the contending Seahawks for a
- 11:57Speaker 1: third and a fifth. 49451 on the Comodage text line.
- 12:01Speaker 1: Your reaction to this trade and what you'd like to
- 12:04Speaker 1: see happen with the Seahawks offensive line. Would you want
- 12:08Speaker 1: to see Anthony Bradford stay? Do you want somebody going
- 12:10Speaker 1: to play left tackle? Well, They got a pretty good
- 12:12Speaker 1: one in Charles Cross, who they just minted last year.
- 12:15Speaker 1: He's currently injured, but they've got three guards for two positions.
- 12:19Speaker 1: What you'd like to see happen with that. 49451, we'll
- 12:23Speaker 1: read back your text at 1130. What else are we
- 12:25Speaker 1: going to have on the show today? We're going to
- 12:26Speaker 1: talk about the running back situation. You'll hear from Coach
- 12:28Speaker 1: Mike McDonald about that. Jadarian Price could come back this week.
- 12:32Speaker 1: He's now eligible to off the injured reserve list. He's
- 12:35Speaker 1: missed the minimum four games. His 21-day practice window is closed.
- 12:40Speaker 1: according to Mike McDonald, expected to begin this week. You'll
- 12:43Speaker 1: hear Mike McDonald answer the question of whether it's going
- 12:45Speaker 1: to be a 21 days, just like the full 21
- 12:48Speaker 1: days Zach Charbonnet took. Is Price going to be in
- 12:50Speaker 1: for 21 days of practice before he plays? You'll hear
- 12:54Speaker 1: his answer to that. At 11 o'clock, it's our weekly
- 12:57Speaker 1: visit with Jory Epstein, Senior Affiliate for Yahoo Sports. Thanks

- 13:26Speaker 2: That's a lot of days, and I really love that because,
- 13:30Speaker 2: you know, good pizza is hard to find, and I've
- 13:32Speaker 2: had Zeke's many times, and I love that they have
- 13:34Speaker 2: that gluten-free option.
- 13:36Speaker 3: My sister-in-law is gluten-free, and I live in Long.
- 13:39Speaker 2: Island, and I was like, I'm pretty sure almost everyone
- 13:41Speaker 2: has this gluten-free option, but I had it from Zeke's
- 13:44Speaker 2: one time, and I was like, oh, gosh, this is like.
- 13:47Speaker 3: Exactly what I would order without knowing it was gluten-free.
- 13:51Speaker 3: It's just really good. You know, if you like that
- 13:55Speaker 3: thin crust, which I would always order thin crust anyway.
- 13:59Speaker 1: New York girl, thin crust?
- 14:00Speaker 2: The dough is, I mean, when I was a kid,
- 14:03Speaker 2: I would eat, you know, grandma's Sicilian. But, yeah, no,
- 14:07Speaker 2: they have really good thin crust, yes. But, yeah, that
- 14:11Speaker 2: gluten-free is very good.
- 14:13Speaker 1: Tori's gluten-free.
- 14:14Speaker 3: Well, that's why I mentioned it.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Exactly. We'll hear from her at 11 o'clock. Tori Epstein,
- 14:18Speaker 1: she's in Philadelphia.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 14:20Speaker 1: She told me she was at the game last night
- 14:21Speaker 1: and texted me this morning and said, yep, I can
- 14:23Speaker 1: go all into Eagles and the Jalen Hurts situation and
- 14:26Speaker 1: the Cowboys. Brian Schottenheimer last night, the former Seahawks offensive coordinator,
- 14:30Speaker 1: found an offense. It's called running the ball. They ran
- 14:33Speaker 1: for 200 yards. How's that? Yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 5: What a concept.
- 14:38Speaker 1: Right. And Dak Prescott was the beneficiary of a balanced offense.
- 14:43Speaker 1: They beat the backup quarterback for the Eagles last And
- 14:47Speaker 1: the Eagles, what, 2-5, so everyone's saying, oh, fire sale
- 14:49Speaker 1: for Howard Roseman. They're only two and a half games
- 14:52Speaker 1: out of the division league because 4-2-1 is the division
- 14:54Speaker 1: lead right now with the tie. The Giants have a
- 14:56Speaker 1: half game on the rest of the field. The Cowboys
- 15:00Speaker 1: probably think, oh, we're back in it, 3-4, game and
- 15:03Speaker 1: a half out. That's what the NFC East is. Someone's
- 15:06Speaker 1: going to win that division, and someone's going to have
- 15:08Speaker 1: a home playoff game. And it could be the Seahawks.
- 15:12Speaker 1: or the Rams or the 49ers, Seahawks somehow overtake the 49ers,
- 15:15Speaker 1: could be going to the NFC East champion or the
- 15:18Speaker 1: NFC South champion in the first round in a wildcard matchup.
- 15:22Speaker 1: So that's why we keep our eyes on the NFC East,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and we'll talk about the NFC North with Jory. Brian Flores,
- 15:29Speaker 1: I mean, everywhere he goes, every team he has, he
- 15:31Speaker 1: does wonders with defense. And he's doing it again with
- 15:34Speaker 1: the 6-0 Vikings, who barely score 18, 17, 18 points
- 15:37Speaker 1: a game, yet they're 6-0. We'll talk to her about
- 15:42Speaker 1: how that happened. The free-falling Raiders, they've lost four in
- 15:45Speaker 1: a row now, and there's talk about, well, we're going
- 15:48Speaker 1: to look at quarterback two, Fernando Mendoza waiting in the wings,
- 15:51Speaker 1: the number one overall pick from Indiana, while Kirk Cousins
- 15:54Speaker 1: has been the starter. The Clint Kubiaks began that coach's
- 15:58Speaker 1: head coaching career 3-0, and now they've lost four in
- 16:00Speaker 1: a row, including after the Rams mopped them up in
- 16:03Speaker 1: Las Vegas the other day. We'll talk about all that
- 16:06Speaker 1: and more with Joy at 11 o'clock, 1130. We'll read
- 16:08Speaker 1: back your text. We'll do your talkbacks on the iHeartRadio app. Please.
- 16:11Speaker 3: Pretty please. Don't call me pretty ever again.
- 16:15Speaker 1: We've got to replay that at some point.
- 16:16Speaker 3: It's deleted from existence.
- 16:19Speaker 1: Really? You didn't keep it?
- 16:20Speaker 3: It's in the podcast.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Oh, good.
- 16:22Speaker 3: I wouldn't do that.
- 16:23Speaker 1: Jackson didn't keep it as some kind of drop or
- 16:25Speaker 1: whatever they do?
- 16:26Speaker 3: No, Softie's the one that does that.
- 16:27Speaker 1: Oh, Softie didn't keep it? There was a request on
- 16:30Speaker 1: the text line yesterday that we replay that.
- 16:33Speaker 3: It was the end of a very thoughtful talkback.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I think it was thoughtful through the tape, actually, through
- 16:39Speaker 1: the end. I don't think it was not thoughtful.
- 16:41Speaker 3: At the end. It was just the end.
- 16:43Speaker 1: I think it was still thoughtful.
- 16:45Speaker 3: It was kind.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And it was accurate.
- 16:48Speaker 3: Just kind.
- 16:51Speaker 1: We'll do that at 1130 like we do every day.
- 16:53Speaker 1: And today it's Jessamyn's pick on our Factor Fiction pick,
- 16:57Speaker 1: like the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 16:58Speaker 5: It's early in the week, folks.
- 17:00Speaker 3: It's early in the week. That means that everything's on
- 17:03Speaker 3: the table.
- 17:03Speaker 1: That is true. Everything's on the board. You know, one
- 17:06Speaker 1: thing we don't do as a show here that I
- 17:08Speaker 1: know a lot of shows do on the station, chasing
- 17:11Speaker 1: picks was like the Monday night game on a Monday.
- 17:14Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Ian is, I think, captain of that.
- 17:16Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 17:17Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure he does that.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 17:20Speaker 1: And their show is where they are. So we're going
- 17:22Speaker 1: to stick with our method, I think.
- 17:24Speaker 3: I like our method.
- 17:25Speaker 2: As long as I just go one and one every
- 17:27Speaker 2: week and you keep crushing it, I think we're pretty good.
- 17:31Speaker 1: Four and one in consecutive weeks. We are lapping the
- 17:34Speaker 1: field currently. We're the only one above 500. I think we're, what, nine, seven,
- 17:37Speaker 1: eight games over 500 while everyone else is underwater. And
- 17:41Speaker 1: our fact or fiction picks. So, again, at 1135, the
- 17:43Speaker 1: abridged version of how you do it is if you
- 17:46Speaker 1: want to win, you don't even have to know what
- 17:49Speaker 1: the pick is. 1135, if you want to win $ 1, 000,
- 17:50Speaker 1: text fact to 49451. You'll get a bounce back. Because
- 17:53Speaker 1: our show, 80% of the time, or whatever it is now,
- 17:55Speaker 1: we've gone 4-1 in consecutive weeks. 80% of the time,
- 17:59Speaker 1: we hit fact. So just hit fact to 49451 at 1130.
- 18:00Speaker 1: If you don't want to win $ 1, 000, text fiction to 49451.
- 18:01Speaker 1: That's how we play the game on this show. at 11.35.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Ian will join us at 11.45, telling us what's on
- 18:12Speaker 1: his show, 12 until 3. He won't be in TV
- 18:15Speaker 1: gear because Kraken are off until tomorrow. They're practicing but
- 18:18Speaker 1: not playing until tomorrow against the Toronto Maple Leafs. 49451,
- 18:23Speaker 1: I already asked you what you think of the Seahawks trade.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Reported trade of two picks, a third and a fifth
- 18:28Speaker 1: round pick to the Indianapolis Colts to get three-time All-Pro
- 18:31Speaker 1: guard Quentin Nelson, 30 years old on an expiring contract.
- 18:35Speaker 1: Your thoughts about that? what they should do with Anthony Bradford.
- 18:38Speaker 1: They now have three guards for two spots. The second
- 18:40Speaker 1: question for the text line, who should the Huskies start
- 18:44Speaker 1: a quarterback in Nebraska on Saturday night? But there's two
- 18:47Speaker 1: different questions here. Who should they start? And who do
- 18:49Speaker 1: you think Jed Fish will actually start?
- 18:51Speaker 3: Those are two very different questions.
- 18:53Speaker 1: And I think they're going to be two different. That's
- 18:55Speaker 1: what's going to happen. I think that Fish is going
- 18:57Speaker 1: to go back to DeMond Williams for the money they've
- 18:59Speaker 1: put in.
- 19:00Speaker 3: That's the thing about the NIL.
- 19:03Speaker 2: And when it comes to college football now, I mean,
- 19:06Speaker 2: We're getting the same questions. I'm not saying that I
- 19:08Speaker 2: was the one asking them, but we get the same
- 19:11Speaker 2: questions on our side of the state with Washington State.
- 19:15Speaker 3: Why was Pinnock in for so long?
- 19:17Speaker 1: Exactly, because the donors are paying for him.
- 19:19Speaker 2: I'm not saying that because I don't know, but that
- 19:22Speaker 2: question is out there for sure.
- 19:24Speaker 1: Of course it is. And then you're going to ask
- 19:26Speaker 1: the same donors at the end of the year to
- 19:28Speaker 1: now keep Eshelman. If Eshelman for Washington State has a
- 19:31Speaker 1: couple good games here, Somebody's going to take him. I
- 19:34Speaker 1: heard Rick Neuheisel on the show on my drive in
- 19:35Speaker 1: with Chuck talking about nobody in college football has number
- 19:39Speaker 1: two quarterbacks anymore. He's talking about how Ohio State has
- 19:42Speaker 1: to go to their backup because Julian Sane is out
- 19:45Speaker 1: for the season. Ohio State's playing USC this week down
- 19:48Speaker 1: in the Coliseum. And Rick Neuheisel made the point, and
- 19:50Speaker 1: he's exactly right. Nobody has No. 2 quarterbacks anymore because
- 19:53Speaker 1: the backups that could be playing have all signed somewhere else.
- 19:57Speaker 1: The guy that was Ohio State's quarterback No. 2 last
- 19:59Speaker 1: year is now Louisville's starting quarterback. So nobody has No.
- 20:03Speaker 2: 2s.
- 20:03Speaker 1: They all have No.
- 20:04Speaker 6: 3s.
- 20:04Speaker 1: They have 1s and 3s in college football. And so
- 20:07Speaker 1: that's the Huskies appear to have a bona fide No. 2,
- 20:12Speaker 1: at least how Elijah Brown fared at Purdue. He made
- 20:15Speaker 1: three interceptions, but he threw three touchdowns. They scored 30 points.
- 20:19Speaker 1: He started games at Stanford. I mean, this guy's a
- 20:22Speaker 1: legit college quarterback.
- 20:23Speaker 3: Who would you choose?
- 20:24Speaker 1: I would Elijah Brown on performance, and he can stand
- 20:27Speaker 1: in a pocket. He can look over the offensive line.
- 20:29Speaker 1: But the same donors you're going to ask to keep
- 20:32Speaker 1: Elijah Brown are the ones who gave $ 4 million to
- 20:34Speaker 1: keep Now, part of that's revenue share out of the
- 20:38Speaker 1: athletic department coffers. But you went to the donors and said,
- 20:43Speaker 1: we need to keep DeMond Williams. And now you're going
- 20:45Speaker 1: to go back and say, well, we need to keep
- 20:46Speaker 1: Elijah Brown. And DeMond Williams is going to go somewhere
- 20:48Speaker 1: next year? Is that how we're doing this in college football? Anyway, 49451,
- 20:53Speaker 1: who you'd like to have as the Huskies starting quarterback
- 20:57Speaker 1: against Nebraska? Yet, who do you think? Jed Fish will
- 21:01Speaker 1: actually start at 5 o'clock on Saturday. That's going to
- 21:03Speaker 1: be right here on 93.3 KJR. Of course, with Elyse Woodward,
- 21:06Speaker 1: Cam Cleland, and Dave Softy-Moller from Lincoln, Nebraska. Up next,
- 21:12Speaker 1: the Seahawks running back situation. Jadarian Price could come off
- 21:15Speaker 1: the injury reserve list this week. Will he? Will Zach
- 21:18Speaker 1: Charbonnet make his season debut? He's been put on the
- 21:21Speaker 1: active roster, but he was inactive Sunday night against Kansas City.
- 21:23Speaker 1: And what does Emmanuel Wilson's 100-yard rushing game against the
- 21:26Speaker 1: Chiefs do to change this picture? Does it change John
- 21:29Speaker 1: Schneider's mind about acquiring a running back? He just acquired
- 21:31Speaker 1: an all-pro, three-time all-pro guard today, Quentin Nelson from the Colts.
- 21:35Speaker 1: We'll talk about the running back situation next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 21:58Speaker 1: Welcome back. Greg Bell and Justin McIntyre with you on
- 22:02Speaker 1: 93.3 KJFM. For this Tuesday morning, we had a trade.
- 22:06Speaker 1: The Seahawks made a trade. Eight-time Pro Bowl, three-time All-Pro guard,
- 22:14Speaker 1: Quinton Nelson, coming to Seattle to join the Seahawks offensive line.
- 22:19Speaker 1: Seahawks reportedly giving up a third round and a fifth
- 22:21Speaker 1: round pick for Nelson, who's 30 years old in the
- 22:23Speaker 1: final year of his contract. As I said, I don't
- 22:25Speaker 1: see this as a rental. That's not John Schneider's way.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Think Ernest Jones. Think Leonard Williams. Think Rashid Shahid. Think
- 22:32Speaker 1: back to Dwayne Brown. All the midseason trade acquisitions that
- 22:35Speaker 1: he has then re-upped at the end of their deals.
- 22:39Speaker 1: A couple things we didn't mention at the top, Jessamyn,
- 22:41Speaker 1: that are interesting. Graves Abel played center at the Senior
- 22:44Speaker 1: Bowl when he was coming out of North Dakota State.
- 22:47Speaker 1: And some people in the NFL scouted him to be
- 22:49Speaker 1: a center and thought he might be a center. Would
- 22:52Speaker 1: they make that move in the middle of a season?
- 22:54Speaker 1: I'm not sure. Instead of Jalen Sundell, I'm not sure
- 22:57Speaker 1: about that.
- 22:58Speaker 3: I wouldn't do it.
- 22:59Speaker 2: I would not mess up Zabel's trajectory because he's doing
- 23:02Speaker 2: so well.
- 23:03Speaker 1: He is doing great.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Yes.
- 23:04Speaker 1: He played right guard at North Dakota State. So you
- 23:08Speaker 1: could move him to right guard and have Quentin Nelson
- 23:11Speaker 1: be where he's been a Hall of Fame trajectory career
- 23:14Speaker 1: so far. Eight years at left guard for the Indianapolis Colts. And,
- 23:18Speaker 1: of course, the odd man out there would be Anthony Bradford.
- 23:22Speaker 1: Bradford's in the final year of his deal as well. Interesting, though,
- 23:27Speaker 1: that they now have three guys for two spots, and
- 23:28Speaker 1: what are they going to do with that? Quentin Nelson
- 23:33Speaker 1: is one of 16 players in NFL history to make
- 23:36Speaker 1: the Pro Bowl in each of his first eight career seasons.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Twelve of those 16 that are eligible to be in
- 23:45Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame are. Sixteen players in NFL history
- 23:49Speaker 1: have made the Pro Bowl in each of their first
- 23:51Speaker 1: eight career seasons. 12 of those 16 are retired more
- 23:55Speaker 1: than five years and eligible for the Hall of Fame,
- 23:56Speaker 1: and all 12 are in the Hall of Fame. That's
- 23:58Speaker 1: how good Quentin Nelson is. And he's arriving here on
- 24:02Speaker 1: an expiring contract to the Seahawks. He's been a left
- 24:05Speaker 1: guard his entire career since he was picked sixth overall
- 24:08Speaker 1: by the Colts eight years ago. That's where I think
- 24:10Speaker 1: they're going to put him. And so Gray Zabel would
- 24:13Speaker 1: be on the move as he moved to right guard
- 24:14Speaker 1: where he played at North Dakota State. I think that's
- 24:16Speaker 1: the move. But Anthony Bradford would then go.
- 24:19Speaker 7: To the bench.
- 24:20Speaker 2: But he's a good depth player. He just got back.
- 24:23Speaker 2: I mean, that's a good guy to keep healthy.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Correct. Of course, he's in the final year of his deal, too,
- 24:27Speaker 1: so he wants to play and make money for next season.
- 24:30Speaker 3: How would you feel, conversation?
- 24:33Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 24:34Speaker 1: The old Kenneth Walker. How would you feel about a
- 24:36Speaker 1: job share? They won't even share this job. They won't
- 24:39Speaker 1: be rotating. So what to Anthony Bradford? Well, the trade
- 24:43Speaker 1: deadline is not until November 10th. Now John Schneider has
- 24:46Speaker 1: another piece to go recoup some of those draft picks,
- 24:48Speaker 1: one or two of those draft picks he just gave up.
- 24:50Speaker 1: If he wanted to try to trade Anthony Bradford, for instance,
- 24:53Speaker 1: that could be their next move. Oh, man.
- 24:56Speaker 3: Do you think that's why they put him on display?
- 24:58Speaker 1: Well, they, yes. Well, yes, in a sense, they needed
- 25:02Speaker 1: him and he was back eligible and healthy too. But
- 25:05Speaker 1: this trade didn't just happen this morning. He's been on
- 25:07Speaker 1: the horn with the Colts about this for a while.
- 25:11Speaker 1: And he's been talking to the agent about what it
- 25:13Speaker 1: would take to keep him beyond the season. So this
- 25:15Speaker 1: isn't just a rental. To me, after covering John Schneider
- 25:18Speaker 1: for 17 years, all 17 of his years as a
- 25:20Speaker 1: Seahawks GM, that's how he operates. So that's what I
- 25:23Speaker 1: think they're doing there. What about running back? Well, 49451,
- 25:28Speaker 1: by the way, the text line is all in favor
- 25:30Speaker 1: of this trade. They think this is another brilliant midseason
- 25:32Speaker 1: strike by John Schneider.
- 25:34Speaker 2: I was going to ask you, you know, I see
- 25:37Speaker 2: no negatives. What would be the negative of this trade?
- 25:40Speaker 2: All I see is value.
- 25:42Speaker 1: Well, the negative would be if you don't resign and
- 25:44Speaker 1: then you just gave up two draft picks for a
- 25:46Speaker 1: player for three months.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Sure.
- 25:48Speaker 1: If for some reason the money doesn't work. But again,
- 25:51Speaker 1: you make this trade after you've already talked to the
- 25:53Speaker 1: agent and perhaps the player, even though you're not technically
- 25:57Speaker 1: supposed to tamper with players on somebody else's contract. You
- 26:01Speaker 1: know what it'll take to resign. So you already have
- 26:04Speaker 1: an idea whether this– He's amenable to what you're offering.
- 26:07Speaker 2: There's really good people upstairs that are better at math
- 26:10Speaker 2: than me that do that stuff.
- 26:12Speaker 1: NFL math, for sure. So what about running back? Well,
- 26:17Speaker 1: Jadarian Price has missed the minimum four games you must
- 26:19Speaker 1: miss to come off the injured reserve list. He has
- 26:22Speaker 1: an upper rib injury John Schneider described on his radio
- 26:24Speaker 1: show a couple weeks ago. And the team keeps calling
- 26:28Speaker 1: it chest, but it's upper rib slash chest. Well, he's back,
- 26:32Speaker 1: and he can be back this week. Mike McDonald said
- 26:35Speaker 1: yesterday on his radio, Coach's radio show the day after
- 26:37Speaker 1: the Chiefs game, that they expect Price to return to
- 26:41Speaker 1: practice this week. That would begin the 21-day practice window
- 26:44Speaker 1: you get to come back from injured reserve. Zach Charbonnet
- 26:47Speaker 1: had the same thing coming back from the physically unable
- 26:49Speaker 1: to perform list last week. Now, Charbonnet took all 21
- 26:53Speaker 1: days because he was coming off of reconstructive knee surgery
- 26:55Speaker 1: and has not played still since January. Not so with Price.
- 26:59Speaker 3: And even him being at practice right now is a
- 27:02Speaker 3: little miraculous.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Exactly. Eight and a half months removed from reconstructive knee surgery.
- 27:07Speaker 1: Different deal with Price. He's missed the last four weeks,
- 27:11Speaker 1: but he did play the first three games, of course,
- 27:13Speaker 1: fumbled in each of the last two, got benched at Washington.
- 27:17Speaker 1: Then he fell on the injury. He got injured in
- 27:19Speaker 1: week two initially. L.J. Collier, the former Seahawk, fell on
- 27:22Speaker 1: him as he was making a tackle on a swing
- 27:24Speaker 1: pass week two in Arizona. That's where Price originally hurt
- 27:27Speaker 1: these ribs. Then he was in a red no-contact jersey
- 27:30Speaker 1: the following week and played against the Chargers. Then he
- 27:34Speaker 1: got hurt when he fell on it in practice the
- 27:36Speaker 1: week following, and that's when he went on injured reserve
- 27:38Speaker 1: and he missed the last four games. So could Jadarian
- 27:43Speaker 1: Price and Zach Charbonnet, who was on the active roster
- 27:45Speaker 1: but did not play against the Chiefs, could they both
- 27:47Speaker 1: play against the Bears? This is what Mike McDonald said
- 27:49Speaker 1: about that yesterday.
- 27:50Speaker 8: You mentioned that Jadarian Price will practice this week.
- 27:53Speaker 5: That's the expectation. Zach started practicing, it was multiple weeks,
- 27:56Speaker 5: he still hasn't played.
- 27:57Speaker 9: Do you think that that's going to be similar with Price,
- 27:59Speaker 9: or is there a chance he could play in this game?
- 28:01Speaker 6: This situation's a little different, obviously, for the length of
- 28:05Speaker 6: the injuries.
- 28:08Speaker 5: Could both play?
- 28:09Speaker 2: Yes.
- 28:11Speaker 5: Could either play? Yes. Could either one play?
- 28:14Speaker 7: Yes.
- 28:16Speaker 5: So it's kind of like the question I had earlier,
- 28:17Speaker 5: it's like, what works? Communication, just figuring it out, and
- 28:21Speaker 5: then going from there, so.
- 28:23Speaker 1: What ultimately is the last benchmark, I guess, that you
- 28:26Speaker 1: need to see from Zach to know that he's ready
- 28:27Speaker 1: to play, we can do this?
- 28:31Speaker 3: I'm going to pass on that answer.
- 28:36Speaker 1: I told you, he's getting very circumspect.
- 28:39Speaker 3: He's getting just really good at it.
- 28:41Speaker 1: It's almost like a sport. It's more of a sport
- 28:44Speaker 1: than it was for Pete Carroll, who took pleasure in
- 28:46Speaker 1: going round and round.
- 28:48Speaker 2: Yeah, but he used a lot more words than Mike
- 28:51Speaker 2: McDonald does.
- 28:51Speaker 3: Yes, he does. Yeah, I'm going to pass. That is
- 28:55Speaker 3: a completely fair answer.
- 28:56Speaker 2: It's completely fair for him to say that, too.
- 29:00Speaker 3: And Pete Carroll would basically say.
- 29:03Speaker 2: That in a minute and a half answer. He would
- 29:06Speaker 2: say the same thing, but use a lot of words.
- 29:08Speaker 1: Again, the contradiction here is that the Seahawks are trying
- 29:12Speaker 1: to be conservative with Zach Charbonnet. And so he can
- 29:16Speaker 1: stay healthy and play for when he does come back
- 29:18Speaker 1: for the rest of the season. And Charbonnet wants to
- 29:21Speaker 1: be back yesterday because he's in the final year of
- 29:23Speaker 1: his contract as well. He's trying to audition for a
- 29:26Speaker 1: job next year from whether the Seahawks or anybody else
- 29:28Speaker 1: who wants to sign him. And now he has 10
- 29:30Speaker 1: of those opportunities left. He was inactive for the chiefs game,
- 29:33Speaker 1: even though he was on the active roster, by the way,
- 29:36Speaker 1: This is an aside, way aside, like way out on
- 29:39Speaker 1: the parking lot.
- 29:39Speaker 10: Okay.
- 29:40Speaker 3: Let's go out.
- 29:41Speaker 1: Robert Henry Jr. Is he bad? How bad must he be?
- 29:46Speaker 2: I don't think we can know that because we have
- 29:49Speaker 2: not seen him.
- 29:50Speaker 1: He's been on the active roster for three weeks and
- 29:52Speaker 1: been inactive on game days all three weeks.
- 29:55Speaker 4: What?
- 29:56Speaker 1: Why did you trade– I mean, excuse me, why did
- 29:58Speaker 1: you sign him from the commander's practice squad and not
- 30:01Speaker 1: play him? I mean, has he proven to not pick
- 30:03Speaker 1: up the playbook? He doesn't even have a fraction of
- 30:07Speaker 1: plays that they can give him. Here's your package for
- 30:09Speaker 1: the week. I mean, wow. Wow. I can't think Robert
- 30:15Speaker 1: Henry Jr. is going to be on the roster much
- 30:17Speaker 1: longer if he can't even be on the active list
- 30:18Speaker 1: for games.
- 30:19Speaker 3: We can only deduce from what we're not seeing.
- 30:22Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 30:23Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I asked about him a couple weeks, two weeks ago, and, oh,
- 30:26Speaker 1: he's doing okay, McDonald said. And I said, is it
- 30:29Speaker 1: that he's not learning the playbook, but he really only
- 30:32Speaker 1: needs a handful of plays for the game plan? And
- 30:34Speaker 1: McDonald said, no, no, it's not that. He hasn't played yet.
- 30:37Speaker 1: And Vellis Jones and Emmanuel Wilson and George Helani have played.
- 30:42Speaker 1: My sense is Price is going to practice Thursday. They
- 30:45Speaker 1: return to the field Thursday. I think he's going to
- 30:47Speaker 1: practice Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Remember, they have a Monday night game.
- 30:52Speaker 1: So they don't get back on the field until Thursday.
- 30:53Speaker 1: I think he's going to be designated to return to
- 30:55Speaker 1: practice from IR on Thursday, practice Thursday, Friday, Saturday. Then
- 30:59Speaker 1: they will assess whether they think he's ready to go
- 31:01Speaker 1: for the game, of course, on Monday night. And my
- 31:04Speaker 1: hunch is he will, that he'll play after missing the
- 31:07Speaker 1: four weeks on injured reserve. Zach Charbonnet, you would think,
- 31:11Speaker 1: is coming back, too. And they put him on the
- 31:15Speaker 1: active roster last week. He fully practiced in all three weeks.
- 31:18Speaker 1: He was talking. It looked like he was going to
- 31:19Speaker 1: make his season debut against the Chiefs. He did not.
- 31:23Speaker 1: If I had to hunch right now, I think Price
- 31:25Speaker 1: and Charbonnet are both coming back. And McDonald's not going
- 31:27Speaker 1: to tell the Bears that on Monday and Tuesday.
- 31:30Speaker 3: No, he has not.
- 31:31Speaker 1: So that's why they didn't say it. So the question
- 31:34Speaker 1: then becomes, if that's the case, does that change the
- 31:37Speaker 1: calculus for John Schneider going into the trade deadline? Perhaps
- 31:41Speaker 1: you don't go spending more draft capital on a running
- 31:44Speaker 1: back because you've got two of them coming right back.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Two lead backs are coming right back to your lineup. Price,
- 31:50Speaker 1: the guy you drafted to replace Kenneth Walker, and the
- 31:53Speaker 1: guy who was in a job share last year with him,
- 31:55Speaker 1: Zach Charbonnet, who scored 12 rushing touchdowns. So that's where
- 31:58Speaker 1: the running back situation stands now. Emmanuel Wilson is the
- 32:01Speaker 1: one only holding the place for Jadarian Price and Zach
- 32:05Speaker 1: Charbonnet to come back. That, to me, will diminish the
- 32:09Speaker 1: trade interest in John Schneider. He's still going to look.
- 32:12Speaker 1: I don't see it being a Jonathan Taylor. I just don't.
- 32:15Speaker 1: Or a Saquon Barkley. Again, why would you give up
- 32:18Speaker 1: a second or first round pick it would take and
- 32:21Speaker 1: an $ 18 million a year contract that runs through 2028
- 32:24Speaker 1: on each of those guys?
- 32:24Speaker 3: Trust the process, Greg. Trust the process.
- 32:29Speaker 2: Mike McDonald has a very specific way of doing things.
- 32:32Speaker 2: And I don't think investing in, I mean, obviously, if
- 32:36Speaker 2: there was any offensive point that he would invest in,
- 32:40Speaker 2: it's offensive line and it's running back.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And that's it. That's it.
- 32:47Speaker 2: And anything else is going to be defense, but that
- 32:49Speaker 2: is the way he controls a game. And that's the way,
- 32:52Speaker 2: you know, it's a microcosm. Each game is a microcosm
- 32:55Speaker 2: of the way he controls a team. That's my takeaway
- 32:58Speaker 2: from it.
- 32:59Speaker 1: Thank you, ma'am. Up next, what changed for Sam Donner
- 33:03Speaker 1: against the Chiefs? Well, there's some just raw numbers that
- 33:06Speaker 1: are striking as to what changed and why he was
- 33:09Speaker 1: a much more efficient passer. And the offense was humming
- 33:12Speaker 1: against the Chiefs, at least relatively humming compared to what
- 33:15Speaker 1: they were the previous weeks. We'll talk Sam Darnold next.
- 33:18Speaker 1: You'll hear from the quarterback. 11 o'clock, Jory Epson is
- 33:20Speaker 1: going to join us from Philadelphia, where she was at
- 33:22Speaker 1: Cowboys-Eagles last night. 11.35 is Factor Fiction, your latest chance
- 33:26Speaker 1: to win $ 1, 000 from the Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel.
- 33:29Speaker 1: And you heard the horn last break for our Kraken
- 33:31Speaker 1: Ticket Tuesday. We'll announce a winner when we come back
- 33:34Speaker 1: on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 33:56Speaker 5: Welcome back.
- 33:57Speaker 1: Greg Bell and Justin McIntyre with you on 93.3 KJR
- 34:00Speaker 1: FM where the news of the day is the Seahawks
- 34:02Speaker 1: have made a trade this morning with the Indianapolis Colts
- 34:06Speaker 1: to acquire eight-time Pro Bowl, three-time All-Pro guard Quentin Nelson,
- 34:12Speaker 1: 30 years old. He's in the final year of his contract.
- 34:15Speaker 1: A third round and a fifth round pick going to
- 34:20Speaker 1: the Indianapolis Colts. Now the Seahawks have three starting guards.
- 34:24Speaker 1: two positions. It is interesting to look at what Gray
- 34:28Speaker 1: Zabel did at North Dakota State, and he has options
- 34:31Speaker 1: that they could move him to. He started 18 games
- 34:33Speaker 1: at left tackle his senior year at North Dakota State.
- 34:36Speaker 1: He started before that 17 games at right tackle. He
- 34:40Speaker 1: started at left guard and at right guard. Of course,
- 34:42Speaker 1: the Seahawks have had him at a left guard since
- 34:43Speaker 1: they drafted him in the first round last year. He's
- 34:45Speaker 1: been a day one starter at left guard since the
- 34:48Speaker 1: many camps and OTAs of the spring of 2025. And
- 34:52Speaker 1: at the senior bowl in the pre-daft process in 2025,
- 34:57Speaker 1: he was a center and some teams scouted him as
- 35:00Speaker 1: a center. Could they move him to center and keep
- 35:03Speaker 1: Anthony Bradford at right guard and have Quentin Nelson be
- 35:05Speaker 1: the left guard? Jalen Sundell, of course, is the current center.
- 35:11Speaker 1: I think the move would be to move Zabel to
- 35:14Speaker 1: either to right guard, perhaps to center, but maybe left
- 35:17Speaker 1: tackle even, because Charles Cross is injured, has an ankle injury,
- 35:24Speaker 1: sprained ankle of some kind. We don't know how long
- 35:26Speaker 1: he's going to be out. A report yesterday from Ian
- 35:28Speaker 1: Rappaport of Benevolent Network saying Cross is going to miss
- 35:30Speaker 1: a game or two with a high ankle sprain. Mike
- 35:32Speaker 1: McDonald would not confirm that yesterday. So they've got choices
- 35:37Speaker 1: now with starters. I mean, that's different than backups. And
- 35:41Speaker 1: they've got starters, and they've got Quentin Nelson, who's on
- 35:43Speaker 1: a Hall of Fame trajectory. I just mentioned there aren't
- 35:46Speaker 1: many guys who make the Pro Bowl in each of
- 35:48Speaker 1: your first eight years in the NFL.
- 35:50Speaker 3: Especially at offensive line.
- 35:52Speaker 1: 16 of them have done it. There's only three of
- 35:54Speaker 1: them have done it at offensive line. Of the 16
- 35:57Speaker 1: who have made the Pro Bowl the first eight seasons,
- 35:59Speaker 1: 12 of them are in the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
- 36:03Speaker 2: So.
- 36:04Speaker 1: That's how good Quentin Nelson has been so far with
- 36:07Speaker 1: the Indianapolis Colts. And now he's a Seattle Seahawks. So
- 36:09Speaker 1: that's the big news of the day. Sam Darnold is
- 36:13Speaker 1: probably interested in Quentin Nelson joining his offensive line. It
- 36:16Speaker 1: can only help him. What happened with Sam Darnold? What changed? Well,
- 36:21Speaker 1: he still threw an interception at the end of the
- 36:22Speaker 1: first half against the Chiefs. That was his eighth interception
- 36:25Speaker 1: in five games. But good for him and the Seahawks.
- 36:27Speaker 1: The bet came with seven seconds left in the first half.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Not enough time for the Chiefs to capitalize on it.
- 36:32Speaker 1: They miss a 58-yard field goal, and the Seahawks took
- 36:35Speaker 1: a 10-0 lead into the half. They end up winning 20-3.
- 36:38Speaker 1: Donald forced that, but that was the only time that, one,
- 36:42Speaker 1: he forced a pass into deep coverage, but he also
- 36:45Speaker 1: was really the only time he held onto the ball.
- 36:47Speaker 1: In the first half, I mentioned yesterday, the first half
- 36:49Speaker 1: he threw 18 passes against the Chiefs in the first half,
- 36:51Speaker 1: completed 13 of them, including the touchdown at Jackson's by
- 36:54Speaker 1: the dig in Jigba. His average time to throw in
- 36:57Speaker 1: the first half was 2.3 seconds, fastest of his career.
- 37:00Speaker 1: And he's in his eighth NFL season. That was the
- 37:04Speaker 1: answer to what happened to him and the Seahawks in Denver.
- 37:07Speaker 1: He got hit 17 times and sacked five times. He
- 37:10Speaker 1: had said going into the Denver game, he was seeking
- 37:12Speaker 1: to be more decisive. He started the game that way,
- 37:14Speaker 1: four for four, throwing on quick back. As soon as
- 37:17Speaker 1: he hit his back foot, quick throws, two, three step drop, boom,
- 37:20Speaker 1: balls out. And then he held onto the ball. Then
- 37:22Speaker 1: he ran away from pressure. Then, well, They designed against
- 37:26Speaker 1: the Chiefs a game plan of quick throwing. 2.3 seconds
- 37:29Speaker 1: in the first half, like I said, the quickest of
- 37:31Speaker 1: his career. And the other thing, Jessamyn, is in Denver
- 37:35Speaker 1: he threw 51 times. Dropped back 56. That's sack five.
- 37:41Speaker 1: He only threw 28 passes. He only dropped back 28
- 37:44Speaker 1: times against the Chiefs. Now, it's because the Seahawks were
- 37:47Speaker 1: playing from the front. and they ran the ball. You know,
- 37:50Speaker 1: their run numbers weren't that great through three quarters. It
- 37:52Speaker 1: was in the fourth quarter that Emmanuel Wilson in the
- 37:54Speaker 1: running game got going, and Wilson became a 100-yard rusher
- 37:57Speaker 1: with a 21-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter. But they
- 38:01Speaker 1: had balance and a defense that had to honor the run.
- 38:05Speaker 1: The Chiefs couldn't just tee off like the Broncos and
- 38:07Speaker 1: the 49ers did on Darnold in the pass rush because
- 38:10Speaker 1: the Seahawks had a running game to honor. Now they
- 38:12Speaker 1: could be getting Jadarian Price back. Now they could be
- 38:14Speaker 1: getting Zach Charbonnet back, but it was quicker passes and
- 38:18Speaker 1: fewer of them. This was Sam Darnold after the game
- 38:21Speaker 1: on Sunday night. and a quote that I think is
- 38:24Speaker 1: going to become his mantra for the rest of the season.
- 38:26Speaker 6: Yeah, I think for me, you know, learning from the
- 38:29Speaker 6: last few weeks and just putting the ball in play
- 38:32Speaker 6: and letting our great athletes go out there and try
- 38:34Speaker 6: to make guys miss and maybe run for a first
- 38:36Speaker 6: down or, you know, even if it's a third and nine,
- 38:39Speaker 6: like a, you know, like the one to coop that
- 38:42Speaker 6: we converted early in the game, like obviously that it's
- 38:45Speaker 6: third and nine or something like that, maybe even longer and,
- 38:48Speaker 6: you know, throw it to him for, you know, for
- 38:50Speaker 6: four or five yards and then he's able to go
- 38:52Speaker 6: get the rest. And I think just my mindset being
- 38:57Speaker 6: that way throughout the week really helped me in the game.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Just putting the ball in play. That's a baseball term, right?
- 39:04Speaker 1: Just put the bat on the ball and put it
- 39:05Speaker 1: in play.
- 39:06Speaker 2: I mean, yeah, we've been asking that with Mariners for
- 39:09Speaker 2: quite a while.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Right. But instead of taking a sack, instead of throwing
- 39:13Speaker 1: it to the other team, which doesn't put the ball
- 39:14Speaker 1: in play to your playmakers, put the ball in play.
- 39:17Speaker 1: That's going to probably be Brian Fleury and Sam Darnold's
- 39:21Speaker 1: mantra for the rest of the season. Put the ball
- 39:22Speaker 1: in play, meaning getting it out quickly to your playmakers
- 39:25Speaker 1: and let them do their thing. Now, the better the
- 39:29Speaker 1: running game, gets, the more they can hold on to
- 39:31Speaker 1: the ball longer in play action and throw the ball
- 39:33Speaker 1: down the field. That's the chicken and egg here. They
- 39:37Speaker 1: got to run the ball well enough to be able
- 39:39Speaker 1: to throw the ball down the field and then Darnold
- 39:41Speaker 1: won't have to throw it so quickly and have bigger
- 39:43Speaker 1: plays down the field to do so. The run game,
- 39:46Speaker 1: it starts there. And Jadarian Price coming back, Zach Charbonnet
- 39:49Speaker 1: making his season debut, can only help. Again, they've been
- 39:53Speaker 1: running with miscast dudes. Emmanuel Wilson was supposed to be
- 39:56Speaker 1: a third-down short yardage back, not the lead bell cow RB1.
- 40:00Speaker 1: George Helani has been getting running back ones. He's a
- 40:03Speaker 1: special teams player.
- 40:04Speaker 3: He's a depth guy.
- 40:05Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 40:06Speaker 1: Exactly. Fellas Jones Jr. is on the team getting reps
- 40:10Speaker 1: the other night. He's a practice squad player. He had
- 40:13Speaker 1: a hamstring injury and left the game midway through. McDonald
- 40:16Speaker 1: didn't have anything new on that. But suffice to say,
- 40:20Speaker 1: this is not the cast that they intended to roll
- 40:23Speaker 1: out in 2026, Jadarian Price being the most notable missing. Price,
- 40:28Speaker 1: it appears, will come back to practice this week. That
- 40:30Speaker 1: will start his 21-day practice window. 49451, the Sam Donald
- 40:35Speaker 1: you saw against the Chiefs, did it restore your faith
- 40:38Speaker 1: in him? Because there were some people doubting him this
- 40:40Speaker 1: time last week after the interceptions and three losses in
- 40:44Speaker 1: four games. Are you now a Sam Darnold believer, or
- 40:47Speaker 1: are you still worried about the Seahawks quarterback situation?
- 40:50Speaker 2: I just like that I want him to continue to
- 40:54Speaker 2: protect the ball. I love that he said put the
- 40:57Speaker 2: ball in play, but my number one would be protect
- 41:00Speaker 2: the ball. Number two, yes, put it in play. But
- 41:03Speaker 2: I do understand what he was saying there. It's, you know,
- 41:06Speaker 2: take the three yards, don't go for the home run ball, right,
- 41:09Speaker 2: is what I took from that. And that's what you want.
- 41:12Speaker 2: You know, get to third and manageable. Get to, you know,
- 41:15Speaker 2: second and five. Just, you know, you don't have to
- 41:18Speaker 2: hit a home run on every single throw. And that's
- 41:21Speaker 2: what I want from a quarterback.
- 41:24Speaker 1: It would help if he didn't turn the ball over.
- 41:25Speaker 1: Eight interceptions in the last five games after meeting.
- 41:28Speaker 3: It's not great.
- 41:29Speaker 1: After leading the NFL in turnovers last season. Up next,
- 41:33Speaker 1: let's go to Philadelphia. Our buddy Jory Epstein is there.
- 41:36Speaker 1: She was at the Cowboys and Eagles last night. She'll
- 41:39Speaker 1: join us on the Beacon Plumbing Hotline. Zeke's Pizza. Zeke'sPizza.com
- 41:42Speaker 1: brings you Jory Epstein, senior NFL reporter for Yahoo Sports,
- 41:46Speaker 1: next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 42:09Speaker 4: Now, from the Star Reynolds Sports Desk, your 93.3 KJR

- 42:27Speaker 1: Headlines are brought to you by Frostbrood Coors Light. As
- 42:30Speaker 1: cold as the Rockies. The news from this morning, the
- 42:33Speaker 1: Seahawks are trading a third-round pick and a fifth-round pick
- 42:36Speaker 1: to the Indianapolis Colts to acquire three-time All-Pro guard Quinton Nelson,
- 42:40Speaker 1: eight-time Pro Bowler, 30 years old. He's on an expiring contract,
- 42:44Speaker 1: been a left guard with the Colts. We've talked all
- 42:46Speaker 1: show about what it may mean to the offensive line,
- 42:48Speaker 1: what it may mean to Gray Zabel, Anthony Bradford, Quinton Nelson.
- 42:53Speaker 1: A massive upgrade, a massive deal to get a guy
- 42:57Speaker 1: at the peak of his career, still just 30 years old,
- 42:59Speaker 1: an eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time All-Pro guard, Quentin Nelson coming
- 43:03Speaker 1: to the Seahawks. Cowboys ran for 200 yards and beaten
- 43:07Speaker 1: the Eagles with their backup quarterback last night. The Eagles'
- 43:10Speaker 1: backup quarterback, that is. Dallas 3-4. Giants lead that NFC
- 43:13Speaker 1: East at 4-2-1. We're going to talk to Jory Epstein
- 43:15Speaker 1: of Yahoo Sports, NFL writer. She's in Philadelphia, was at
- 43:18Speaker 1: the game last night. Lots to talk about in the
- 43:21Speaker 1: NFC East, including Jalen Hurds. Jay-Z is going to be
- 43:24Speaker 1: the headline act at the Super Bowl 61 halftime show
- 43:27Speaker 1: in February. 49451, what do you think of that? You
- 43:30Speaker 1: like that? You ups on that? Jay-Z, headlining the halftime
- 43:34Speaker 1: show in February at Super Bowl 61 in Inglewood. The
- 43:38Speaker 1: Kraken are practicing today at the Iceplex up at Northgate.
- 43:40Speaker 1: They host Toronto tomorrow night at Climate Pledge Arena. The
- 43:44Speaker 1: Washington Huskies football team plays at Nebraska 5 p.m. Saturday.
- 43:48Speaker 1: Who's Jed Fish going to start a quarterback? I asked
- 43:50Speaker 1: that on the text line. It should be Elijah Brown.
- 43:53Speaker 1: Will Jed Fish pick Elijah Brown? Over the $ 4 million
- 43:57Speaker 1: they're giving in NIL money to DeMond Williams went out,
- 43:59Speaker 1: assuming DeMond Williams is healthy now from his injury that
- 44:03Speaker 1: Sideline him in the Huskies win at Purdue. Washington State
- 44:06Speaker 1: Cougars play at San Diego State on Saturday. The Oregon
- 44:09Speaker 1: Ducks are going to be without quarterback Nante Moore for
- 44:11Speaker 1: the rest of the season with a concussion. He hasn't
- 44:14Speaker 1: played in a month. The Ducks are 4-3. And in
- 44:16Speaker 1: the World Series, the Brewers, eight-run inning last night to
- 44:20Speaker 1: bury the Rays in Game 3 in the Trop in St. Petersburg.
- 44:24Speaker 1: So now Milwaukee has a 3-0 series lead. Only has
- 44:27Speaker 1: to win one of the next four games to win
- 44:29Speaker 1: the World Series in Milwaukee.
- 44:33Speaker 4: It's time for Greg's weekly visit with Yahoo Sports senior
- 44:37Speaker 4: NFL reporter Jory Epstein.
- 44:39Speaker 5: Brought to you by Zeke's Pizza.
- 44:41Speaker 4: Stop by Zeke's all season long when a team from
- 44:44Speaker 4: Washington is playing and enjoys $ 6 Kraft Pints. And for
- 44:48Speaker 4: some serious kick, try the new Calabrian Chili Pizza.
- 44:51Speaker 1: Out now.
- 44:52Speaker 5: Now with Jory Epstein.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Here's Greg. Every day, every Tuesday at this time, we
- 45:00Speaker 1: go to Jory Epstein on the East Coast. She's somewhere
- 45:02Speaker 1: on the East Coast every week. This time she's in Philadelphia,
- 45:05Speaker 1: senior NFL reporter and writer for Yahoo Sports. Joins us
- 45:09Speaker 1: from Philadelphia where she was in the building last night
- 45:11Speaker 1: to watch the Cowboys and the Eagles. Good afternoon, ma'am.
- 45:17Speaker 1: Good afternoon, Greg.
- 45:18Speaker 10: Jessamyn in Seattle.
- 45:19Speaker 1: How are you guys? We are great out here. Thank you.
- 45:21Speaker 1: You're in one of my favorite cities in the country, Philadelphia.
- 45:24Speaker 1: Have you ever been to an Army-Navy game, Jory? I
- 45:27Speaker 1: have not. I need to add that to the list.
- 45:30Speaker 1: I'm going to host you at an Army-Navy game. You
- 45:32Speaker 1: could go this year because it's in New York. It's
- 45:35Speaker 1: in the Meadowlands this year. So Jessamyn and I are
- 45:37Speaker 1: going to be there on December the 10th, 11th, and 12th.
- 45:40Speaker 1: If you don't want to go to that one or
- 45:41Speaker 1: can't meet us for that one, I'll take you to
- 45:43Speaker 1: Philadelphia because that's the best one. But you're in Philadelphia.
- 45:47Speaker 1: You were with the Cowboys and Eagles last night. Cowboys
- 45:50Speaker 1: used to be the team you covered intensely. Where did
- 45:53Speaker 1: Brian Schottenheimer get this running game, and why didn't he
- 45:56Speaker 1: do it earlier, or is it because it was the
- 45:58Speaker 1: Eagles who are now lost five in a row? Where
- 46:02Speaker 1: did this whole offense, and it looks like it revived Dallas'
- 46:05Speaker 1: season last night. Where'd that come from?
- 46:07Speaker 11: Yeah, it's interesting because on one hand— The Cowboys had
- 46:12Speaker 11: over 200 rushing yards and over 200 passing yards. So
- 46:15Speaker 11: people were asking like, oh, Dak, do you think this
- 46:16Speaker 11: is the most complete game you guys have had offensively?
- 46:19Speaker 11: And he goes, yeah, the numbers would say so, but
- 46:21Speaker 11: it's one game we got to build on this. I
- 46:24Speaker 11: think that the Cowboys know, and I talked to Dak
- 46:26Speaker 11: about this, that they got away from the run game
- 46:28Speaker 11: too much in their prior two games, both of which
- 46:31Speaker 11: were primetime losses first to the Buccaneers against undrafted.
- 46:35Speaker 10: Rookie free agent quarterback.
- 46:37Speaker 11: Jalen Daniels, and then up in Wisconsin at Lambeau against
- 46:42Speaker 11: the Packers. And part of that is a matter of
- 46:45Speaker 11: when you get down and the Cowboys were not scoring
- 46:47Speaker 11: in their first three quarters, you tend to go a
- 46:49Speaker 11: little more pass heavy. But I think Dak and Brian
- 46:52Speaker 11: Schottenheimer had this conversation of like, we have to be
- 46:54Speaker 11: stubbornly committed to the run game, even if it's not
- 46:56Speaker 11: super effective early in the game. Now, last night they
- 46:58Speaker 11: didn't get down, so it's easier to follow through with that.
- 47:01Speaker 11: But there is an element of you have your shiny
- 47:04Speaker 11: toys and guys like cd lamb and george pickens at
- 47:06Speaker 11: receiver but in order to make sure they're not getting
- 47:09Speaker 11: double triple covered on every single play all these cloud
- 47:11Speaker 11: and bracket coverages you really have to make sure the
- 47:13Speaker 11: run game scoring so the cowboys went into this game
- 47:16Speaker 11: saying we are going to run the ball and even
- 47:17Speaker 11: on their first touchdown drive despite it being a pass
- 47:20Speaker 11: to cd land they had six runs along the way
- 47:23Speaker 11: so i mean i was not concerned about giovante williams
- 47:26Speaker 11: ever i mean he's it's funny someone was asking me
- 47:28Speaker 11: should the cowboys trade for a running back at the
- 47:30Speaker 11: deadline like this is last week and i'm like Javante
- 47:32Speaker 11: Williams was more productive than Saquon Barkley last year. I'm
- 47:35Speaker 11: not saying that he's got the higher ceiling in his career,
- 47:38Speaker 11: but he works really well.
- 47:38Speaker 10: For this group.
- 47:39Speaker 11: They also have their offensive line back to full health,
- 47:41Speaker 11: although it's been fairly healthy, and they're a good run
- 47:44Speaker 11: blocking unit. So I think that this is an intentional
- 47:47Speaker 11: commitment and one that they're able to do. The question is,
- 47:50Speaker 11: Can you do it against a team that isn't missing
- 47:52Speaker 11: half of their offensive starters? Because it gets harder when
- 47:54Speaker 11: you actually have to keep up knowing that your defense
- 47:57Speaker 11: probably isn't getting off the field very quickly.
- 47:59Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. The Eagles are just a shell of themselves.
- 48:01Speaker 1: Brian Schottenheimer, I mean, it looked like Marty Schottenheimer ball yesterday,
- 48:04Speaker 1: his old Chiefs and Browns team. Well, how does he
- 48:07Speaker 1: strike Brian Schottenheimer? How does he strike you as a
- 48:09Speaker 1: head coach? We know him out here in Seattle. I
- 48:11Speaker 1: covered him every day for a couple of years as
- 48:12Speaker 1: the Seahawks offensive coordinator for Pete Carroll. And man, was
- 48:17Speaker 1: he great to deal with. Very insightful. Told us a
- 48:19Speaker 1: lot of things. was glib, had a great sense of humor.
- 48:22Speaker 1: How is he with the Cowboys players as a first-time
- 48:25Speaker 1: head coach? Have you noticed, have you heard, and the
- 48:28Speaker 1: impact that Schottenheimer has had as a head man?
- 48:32Speaker 11: Yeah, it's very good timing that you're asking this question, Greg,
- 48:34Speaker 11: because I'll answer in two parts, about the players and
- 48:37Speaker 11: about the reporters. He's a very player-friendly coach, and I
- 48:41Speaker 11: don't just mean that in terms of looking out for
- 48:43Speaker 11: the player body. I mean, he is so concerned with
- 48:45Speaker 11: their mental and emotional well-being and really thinks about the
- 48:49Speaker 11: culture and what they're going to be able to be
- 48:52Speaker 11: as men and how they're going to support each other.
- 48:53Speaker 11: And obviously he was tried very tragically and intensely last
- 48:57Speaker 11: year as a leader when they had a player die
- 49:00Speaker 11: by suicide.
- 49:00Speaker 10: In Marshawn Nealon last season.
- 49:03Speaker 11: So now you get to his second season, it's more football,
- 49:05Speaker 11: their expectations are higher. And I think there's still some
- 49:09Speaker 11: of that, but look, he's still the play caller and
- 49:11Speaker 11: it wasn't going so well. So historically, both as offensive
- 49:15Speaker 11: coordinator and as head coach, Brian Schottenheimer has been extremely thoughtful.
- 49:20Speaker 11: extremely personal in the media, really explaining things to us
- 49:23Speaker 11: and fairly honest. What was interesting, and I was not
- 49:27Speaker 11: at his post-game press conference last night, I was in
- 49:29Speaker 11: the locker room at the time talking to players because
- 49:31Speaker 11: they happen at the same time, but he gave his
- 49:33Speaker 11: shortest and terse post-game press conference he had given since
- 49:37Speaker 11: he became head coach. And some of the reporters are
- 49:39Speaker 11: wondering about it. And Dak told us, he's like, look,
- 49:42Speaker 11: he's not naive. Like he did come in this game
- 49:44Speaker 11: hungry and pissed off. He knows what people are saying
- 49:46Speaker 11: about his play calling in recent weeks. He knows what
- 49:48Speaker 11: people are saying, questioning him. And I think there's kind
- 49:51Speaker 11: of this element of, so the same people that are
- 49:54Speaker 11: questioning me, publicly and explaining all the things I can't
- 49:57Speaker 11: do now want me to give them all this information.
- 49:59Speaker 10: And I'm not saying that's not how the job works.
- 50:01Speaker 10: It is how the job works.
- 50:02Speaker 11: But I think there's kind of an element of like, hey, no,
- 50:05Speaker 11: I heard what you said. And maybe I used it
- 50:08Speaker 11: to motivate me, but I still heard it. And I'm
- 50:10Speaker 11: not feeling quite as warm and fuzzy today. So that
- 50:14Speaker 11: was my take on his shorter press conference. It'll be
- 50:17Speaker 11: interesting to see how that evolves over time week to week.
- 50:19Speaker 11: But I think that because Brian Schoenheimer is so people-oriented,
- 50:24Speaker 11: he also hears.
- 50:25Speaker 10: It and feels it when people say stuff.
- 50:26Speaker 11: And the last thing I'll say about that is I
- 50:28Speaker 11: had a conversation with Zach before he boarded the bus
- 50:30Speaker 11: about that because Zach has always been pretty.
- 50:32Speaker 10: Big of like, I don't want to hear it.
- 50:34Speaker 11: I'm not saying he doesn't hear anything, but he doesn't
- 50:36Speaker 11: I mean, he's dealt with so many off the field
- 50:38Speaker 11: things in his life that the on the field criticism
- 50:41Speaker 11: primarily doesn't get to him that much. But the reality
- 50:45Speaker 11: is it doesn't mean it doesn't get to his coaches
- 50:46Speaker 11: and to his teammates. And so he was like, look,
- 50:49Speaker 11: I know that some guys listen to it. I don't
- 50:51Speaker 11: want to listen to it much, but I also have
- 50:52Speaker 11: to be aware. And he said, it doesn't bother me
- 50:54Speaker 11: that people say things, but it bothers me seeing how
- 50:58Speaker 11: much it can upset and hurt some of my teammates
- 51:01Speaker 11: and coaches. And so I think that's always a dynamic
- 51:03Speaker 11: that these teams are dealing with, particularly when you're in
- 51:06Speaker 11: a market as, brightest spotlight as the Cowboys.
- 51:09Speaker 1: This is now a familiar voice of Jory Epstein. She's
- 51:12Speaker 1: our weekly guest on Tuesdays. Thanks to Zeke's Pizza and Zeke'sPizza.com,
- 51:15Speaker 1: the senior NFL writer for Yahoo Sports. Go to Zeke'sPizza.com

- 51:24Speaker 1: you get $ 10 off any pizza, any delivery, any order.
- 51:28Speaker 1: Doesn't matter. Go to Zeke's Pizza on the app. Zeke's Pizza.
- 51:31Speaker 1: They have gluten-free for Jory if she gets back out
- 51:33Speaker 1: here to Seattle.
- 51:34Speaker 2: Mm-hmm.
- 51:35Speaker 1: That's Zeke's Pizza and Zeke'sPizza.com. The Eagles, I'm going to
- 51:39Speaker 1: ask you about Jalen Hurts and the situation there in
- 51:41Speaker 1: a minute. But in the NFC East, 4-2-1, the Giants
- 51:45Speaker 1: are in first place. 2-5 and a free-falling five losses
- 51:49Speaker 1: in a row for the Eagles. Are they now in
- 51:50Speaker 1: sell mode? Are they going to trade Saquon Barkley? It's
- 51:53Speaker 1: tough to trade a guy who's hurt. He was hurt
- 51:55Speaker 1: and limited last night. Where do you see the Eagles
- 51:58Speaker 1: and Howie Roseman doing? Or do you think they're going
- 52:00Speaker 1: to hold pat and wait for the Giants and the
- 52:02Speaker 1: rest of the division to stay back down with them?
- 52:06Speaker 11: I don't think the Eagles are going to hold Pat.
- 52:07Speaker 11: What I think is notable is that Howie Roseman, in
- 52:10Speaker 11: part because of the relative security he has, has pretty
- 52:15Speaker 11: much always been a guy who will listen to offers.
- 52:18Speaker 11: It's kind of the Eagles philosophy in his tenure, which
- 52:21Speaker 11: dates back quite a while now, is let's hear what
- 52:24Speaker 11: the offer is. And if it's good, we might take
- 52:26Speaker 11: even if it doesn't seem like it aligns with our
- 52:27Speaker 11: team building cycle. And because we're constantly reloading and we're
- 52:30Speaker 11: aggressive making moves, We're going to have to be aggressive
- 52:33Speaker 11: in some places in terms of getting back capital to
- 52:35Speaker 11: replace the guys or to offset the salaries that we're
- 52:39Speaker 11: taking on. So, I mean, I think we saw that
- 52:41Speaker 11: earlier this season when they traded offensive lineman Cam Jorgens
- 52:44Speaker 11: to the Ravens. And that was before they had all
- 52:46Speaker 11: of these injuries and their season was in free fall.
- 52:48Speaker 11: But they realized, look, this guy's playing well, but not
- 52:50Speaker 11: as well for us. He hasn't fully stayed healthy. And
- 52:53Speaker 11: we have young guys who might not be where he's
- 52:55Speaker 11: at now, but we think can get there and are cheaper.
- 52:57Speaker 10: Let's make the move.
- 52:58Speaker 11: So I think Saquon's a really interesting one because I
- 53:02Speaker 11: do believe that my opinion, not necessarily what they're saying,
- 53:06Speaker 11: but my opinion is that based off their historical philosophies,
- 53:11Speaker 11: they would be open to trading him. The question is,
- 53:13Speaker 11: at what value? You're not just giving Saquon away talent
- 53:16Speaker 11: like that. And we saw even at the beginning of
- 53:18Speaker 11: the game last night, even with his injury, that he
- 53:20Speaker 11: was still really explosive and burning the Cowboys in the
- 53:23Speaker 11: pass game and the run game and basically anything. end
- 53:25Speaker 11: zone untouched on certain plays and so I think that
- 53:29Speaker 11: he has value I think when we see what the
- 53:31Speaker 11: Niners did acquiring Christian McCaffrey I'll be at a younger
- 53:34Speaker 11: age I believe A few years back, there is this
- 53:37Speaker 11: idea that some coaches say, hey, if I get him
- 53:38Speaker 11: in my system and my players and my personnel grouping,
- 53:43Speaker 11: I'm going to be able to elevate him. And Saquon
- 53:45Speaker 11: still has that explosiveness. But not only has he been
- 53:47Speaker 11: battling a hamstring injury, but last night he came back
- 53:50Speaker 11: a little bit early and then got a back injury compensating.
- 53:52Speaker 11: And so you have to think that that impacts his value,
- 53:55Speaker 11: particularly for a team that's trying to trade for him
- 53:58Speaker 11: to make a run this year. I also think on
- 54:00Speaker 11: the defensive line, there will probably be some guys. I mean,
- 54:02Speaker 11: some of these guys were on expiring contracts, like Philly's going.
- 54:05Speaker 10: To want to get some return back.
- 54:06Speaker 1: Right, instead of them just leaving for maybe a comp
- 54:08Speaker 1: pick and nothing else. Jory, you've been in Philadelphia a
- 54:11Speaker 1: couple days. Jalen Hurts in a situation that got him
- 54:15Speaker 1: from a superficial blood clot in his legs to in
- 54:17Speaker 1: his lungs and now out for the season. The NFL
- 54:20Speaker 1: Players Association have announced that they are now going to
- 54:23Speaker 1: have an investigation jointly with the league after the league.
- 54:26Speaker 1: And Alan Sills, who you were at the league meetings
- 54:28Speaker 1: in Manhattan with last week, saying, ah, everything was fine.
- 54:30Speaker 1: They followed the protocol. Everything's up. What do you know
- 54:33Speaker 1: about this union push to dig deeper here? What's the
- 54:37Speaker 1: league doing about this? And, I mean, it sure looks
- 54:40Speaker 1: like the Eagles mismanaged this. Are there going to be
- 54:43Speaker 1: any punishments, or what do you think becomes of this?
- 54:46Speaker 11: Yeah, I think that we should go back a season
- 54:48Speaker 11: to have a little bit of context here, which is
- 54:50Speaker 11: that I believed, and I still believe, that the NFLPA
- 54:54Speaker 11: should have investigated the Pittsburgh Steelers for the lung puncturing
- 54:58Speaker 11: of TJ Watt.
- 54:59Speaker 10: I am absolutely not suggesting that it was malicious.
- 55:02Speaker 11: And this is for those who aren't remembering it. It
- 55:04Speaker 11: was during dry needling session at the facility. They accidentally
- 55:08Speaker 11: got his lung. It deflated and he was out a
- 55:10Speaker 11: few weeks. But still very scary because this isn't your ACL.
- 55:14Speaker 10: This is your lung.
- 55:15Speaker 11: And so I am still shocked that there wasn't an
- 55:18Speaker 11: investigation there. There is an element of if a player
- 55:20Speaker 11: doesn't want to file a grievance. The union has some
- 55:23Speaker 11: limitations in terms of the actions they could take on
- 55:26Speaker 11: that front. But I believe that you have to protect
- 55:28Speaker 11: future players from experiencing what a current player is experiencing.
- 55:32Speaker 11: And so I would have been very disappointed if, like
- 55:36Speaker 11: the TJ situation, there was not an investigation here. investigation
- 55:39Speaker 11: doesn't necessarily mean get someone in trouble. Like with the
- 55:42Speaker 11: teacher thing, again, I don't even care who did it.
- 55:43Speaker 11: I just want to know what protocols are in place
- 55:46Speaker 11: for that one because dry needling is different.
- 55:48Speaker 10: From state to state.
- 55:49Speaker 11: And I know I'm getting off on a tangent, but
- 55:50Speaker 11: it'll relate back that you have to make sure that
- 55:53Speaker 11: your protocols are such that you're giving players the best
- 55:56Speaker 11: chance for health and safety.
- 55:58Speaker 1: That's my goal.
- 55:59Speaker 10: So then you think about this with the Jalen Hurts information.
- 56:03Speaker 10: And I do think he got.
- 56:06Speaker 11: what would be considered top standard imaging England, despite the
- 56:10Speaker 11: fact that they were hours away from the London city
- 56:12Speaker 11: center is my understanding of where they were at the hotel.
- 56:15Speaker 11: He got imaging at the Cleveland Clinic location in London
- 56:18Speaker 11: that suggested he had a superficial blood clot. A superficial
- 56:21Speaker 11: blood clot could be as simple as, hey, if you
- 56:23Speaker 11: get an IV and you have a little bit of
- 56:25Speaker 11: a vein going up there, that's a superficial blood clot.
- 56:27Speaker 11: It is true that playing football with a superficial blood
- 56:30Speaker 11: clot is not typically a big danger. What is more
- 56:33Speaker 11: damning to me is the fact that he got on
- 56:35Speaker 11: a plane afterwards for seven plus hours. That to me
- 56:38Speaker 11: is where I would say Did you require him to
- 56:40Speaker 11: get up and walk every hour? Because when you have
- 56:43Speaker 11: the immobility and the stasis in your blood, that's when
- 56:46Speaker 11: these clots can increase and spread. Did you image him
- 56:50Speaker 11: after the game to see whether he should be flying
- 56:52Speaker 11: back or consider holding him back a day? Those to
- 56:54Speaker 11: me are actually bigger questions than the fact that he
- 56:56Speaker 11: played in the initial game in London based off what
- 56:59Speaker 11: they saw at the time. There are some questions I
- 57:01Speaker 11: have on the imaging and whether there was also deep
- 57:05Speaker 11: vein thrombosis at the same time that there was superficial
- 57:07Speaker 11: because of how quickly it spread from superficial in the
- 57:10Speaker 11: calf to deep in the calf to the lungs. Doctors
- 57:13Speaker 11: tell me that that timeline changes. of where it ended
- 57:15Speaker 11: relative to where it allegedly started is pretty unusual. As
- 57:19Speaker 11: it relates to the NFL and how they handled it,
- 57:22Speaker 11: I don't know why, and Mike Silver did a good
- 57:24Speaker 11: comment about this for The Athletic, I don't know why
- 57:26Speaker 11: the NFL came out there and said, every one of
- 57:29Speaker 11: our doctors are always following what's best for the player,
- 57:32Speaker 11: never listening to football people, and we give them the
- 57:35Speaker 11: best standards and we're sure this went well.
- 57:37Speaker 10: Let's have a little humility here.
- 57:38Speaker 11: I know humility isn't really synonymous with the NFL, but
- 57:41Speaker 11: I think that Mike made some good points about it. Hey,
- 57:44Speaker 11: maybe we should be more grateful that he seems like
- 57:46Speaker 11: he's going to be okay than pumping our chest about this.
- 57:50Speaker 11: I also think that, yes, doctors have an oath to
- 57:53Speaker 11: protect their patients first. Do any of us really believe
- 57:56Speaker 11: that there's any industry in which no one is ever
- 57:58Speaker 11: swayed by the business interests and the people who are
- 58:00Speaker 11: employing them? I'm not saying that the Eagles said, hey, doctors,
- 58:03Speaker 11: you gotta get Jalen out there. And it's true that
- 58:05Speaker 11: Jalen had a choice in whether he went out there too.
- 58:09Speaker 11: But I think that we need to have a better
- 58:10Speaker 11: understanding of this process and and a better understanding specifically
- 58:14Speaker 11: of if this happens again and there's a flight coming,
- 58:17Speaker 11: what is the threshold of imaging we need to see
- 58:20Speaker 11: for a player to safely get back on the field?
- 58:22Speaker 1: Yeah, there's talk now that, I mean, you can't have
- 58:24Speaker 1: a protocol for every single injury, but there is talk
- 58:26Speaker 1: now of a league protocol for somewhat like concussion protocol.
- 58:30Speaker 1: They're going to be a blood clot protocol to make
- 58:33Speaker 1: sure that they don't have, again, it's reactionary and you
- 58:36Speaker 1: can't do it for every injury. But to your point, Jory,
- 58:39Speaker 1: the team doctors are employed by the teams. That's the
- 58:42Speaker 1: bottom line.
- 58:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 58:43Speaker 1: They, they have both and they should be taking care
- 58:45Speaker 1: of the patient, but their checks come from the team
- 58:48Speaker 1: and there's, that's an age old problem.
- 58:53Speaker 11: And to your point, Greg, I think that one of
- 58:55Speaker 11: the great points that has been made is if the
- 58:57Speaker 11: team doctors are so unbiased and Why does league protocol
- 59:01Speaker 11: for concussions now require an unaffiliated neurological consultant Right.
- 59:06Speaker 10: The reality is we do have.
- 59:09Speaker 11: I mean, when they're when Alan Sills, the chief medical officer,
- 59:11Speaker 11: was up there last week saying that the players get
- 59:14Speaker 11: a say in this and this is shared decision making,
- 59:16Speaker 11: which is true. And doctors I talked to. independently from
- 59:19Speaker 11: my reporting on Jalen said that that.
- 59:21Speaker 10: Is part of a process.
- 59:22Speaker 11: I said, okay, but in the concussion protocol, we don't
- 59:25Speaker 11: have shared decision-making. And I get that you can say
- 59:27Speaker 11: that maybe their ability to make a decision in that
- 59:29Speaker 11: state is impaired, but I think that let's not pretend
- 59:32Speaker 11: we haven't already changed these alleged rules for other medical
- 59:36Speaker 11: conditions when we say that we can't change them here.
- 59:39Speaker 1: Well done, ma'am. You are exactly, I agree absolutely with
- 59:42Speaker 1: what your Jalen Hurts point of view on that one.
- 59:46Speaker 1: Brian Flores, if you could say a reason why six
- 59:49Speaker 1: and oh, the Vikings are six and oh, is Brian Flores.
- 59:53Speaker 1: I mean, their offense, the Vikings offense, they got Kyler
- 59:56Speaker 1: Murray's not exactly ripping it up at quarterback. Could you
- 59:59Speaker 1: see Brian Flores as the reason like he should be
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: coach of the year, the way they're going right now? No,
- 1:00:04Speaker 1: the defensive coordinator. Yeah.
- 1:00:07Speaker 11: I don't know how he wouldn't be assistant coach of
- 1:00:08Speaker 11: the year at the moment. I definitely think that, I mean,
- 1:00:11Speaker 11: he should be in that conversation pretty much every year
- 1:00:13Speaker 11: based off what he's done in recent years.
- 1:00:15Speaker 10: Uh, Clearly, it's their defense. Their offense is struggling.
- 1:00:19Speaker 11: I mean, offensively, they're 23rd in points scored and 29th
- 1:00:22Speaker 11: in yardage. And defensively, they're first in points allowed and
- 1:00:26Speaker 11: second in yards allowed. So when you see numbers that
- 1:00:28Speaker 11: this isn't like 15 and 20, we are top of
- 1:00:31Speaker 11: the pack and near bottom of the pack. relative to
- 1:00:33Speaker 11: the defense and the offense. What I would say is
- 1:00:36Speaker 11: that it was always going to be some level of
- 1:00:38Speaker 11: adjustment getting Kyler Murray and Kevin O'Connell.
- 1:00:40Speaker 10: On the same page. And that's not an indictment on
- 1:00:41Speaker 10: either guy. I'm a big believer that when you have a.
- 1:00:44Speaker 11: New coach, a new scheme, a new player, and you're
- 1:00:46Speaker 11: kind of putting these pieces together, it requires some trial
- 1:00:50Speaker 11: and error. And that doesn't happen in preseason in today's NFL,
- 1:00:53Speaker 11: particularly with older or injury history players. The hope, and
- 1:00:57Speaker 11: we see this with teams like the Niners too, is
- 1:00:59Speaker 11: that you can be winning while you're figuring it out.
- 1:01:02Speaker 11: And it's a lot easier to figure those things out
- 1:01:04Speaker 11: when you have a four or five game cushion in
- 1:01:06Speaker 11: your division, or at least in the playoff running, I
- 1:01:09Speaker 11: should say. Now we do have to look at the
- 1:01:12Speaker 11: Vikings schedule a little bit and provide some context because
- 1:01:16Speaker 11: the same way that the Raiders started out with three
- 1:01:18Speaker 11: wins and then dropped, it was somewhat schedule dependent, if
- 1:01:20Speaker 11: not entirely. Yes, the Vikings have had some good wins,
- 1:01:23Speaker 11: but they also most recently played the Buccaneers, the Dolphins,
- 1:01:26Speaker 11: the Saints, and the Colts. Those were their last four opponents.
- 1:01:29Speaker 11: I don't think any of those teams are likely to
- 1:01:32Speaker 11: make the playoffs. Now, their next opponents are the Lions,
- 1:01:35Speaker 11: the Bills, the Packers, and the Niners, all of whom
- 1:01:38Speaker 11: could make the playoffs.
- 1:01:38Speaker 10: I guess the Lions will see. So I think that.
- 1:01:41Speaker 11: Some of this is going to be a little bit
- 1:01:44Speaker 11: opponent dependent, and I don't expect the Vikings to get
- 1:01:47Speaker 11: out of this season without a.
- 1:01:48Speaker 10: Loss, even if they're the only ones without a loss
- 1:01:49Speaker 10: right now. The Chargers are the only ones without a win.
- 1:01:53Speaker 11: I think some of this will even out, but I
- 1:01:54Speaker 11: do think that they put themselves in position to absolutely
- 1:01:57Speaker 11: be in great shape for the division, if not for
- 1:01:59Speaker 11: the NFC. And then the question is, by ideally November, December, January,
- 1:02:05Speaker 11: can Kyler Murray and the offense figure this thing out?
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: Yeah, Vikings at Detroit, probably the best game of the weekend,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: even though we're getting Eagles commanders as the Sunday night game.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: Flex that for whatever reason. Jory, you're in Philadelphia now.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I'm sure you'll go home and see your husband here
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: soon back to Manhattan. Where are you going to be
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: this week? What are you watching in week eight or
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: whatever week this is for the NFL?
- 1:02:27Speaker 10: I keep losing track.
- 1:02:28Speaker 11: I will be home this week watching, but I'm very
- 1:02:30Speaker 11: intrigued by the Ravens-Bills. I think a few weeks ago
- 1:02:33Speaker 11: we probably thought that was going to.
- 1:02:34Speaker 10: Be more of a game of heavyweights, and now.
- 1:02:37Speaker 11: statistically or record wise, I should say it still is,
- 1:02:40Speaker 11: but the Ravens have some questions and I think go
- 1:02:43Speaker 11: beyond Lamar and also some questions with Lamar about him
- 1:02:46Speaker 11: not being back yet. So I will be eager to
- 1:02:49Speaker 11: see what they can do. I think the bills have
- 1:02:51Speaker 11: kind of not got almost gotten out of our focus
- 1:02:53Speaker 11: because of the vibe, but there's still one of the
- 1:02:55Speaker 11: scariest teams in the NFL. Like you said, the Vikings
- 1:02:57Speaker 11: and lions and particularly the Vikings defense are versus the
- 1:03:00Speaker 11: Lions offense. Chargers-Rams underratedly really interest me because, I mean,
- 1:03:06Speaker 11: these are two LA teams, and if the Chargers can
- 1:03:09Speaker 11: figure out how to get it this time, I don't
- 1:03:11Speaker 11: think they will. But if they can, I mean, that
- 1:03:13Speaker 11: battle of LA means quite a bit to a lot
- 1:03:15Speaker 11: of people down there. And of course, Chiefs-Broncos will never
- 1:03:19Speaker 11: be a bad game. And if you're the Chiefs and
- 1:03:21Speaker 11: you're trying to get right offensively, you don't really want
- 1:03:23Speaker 11: to face the Broncos defense.
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: Jory, thank you for taking time out in Philadelphia. We
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: have actually Greg McClure, who's one of these partners of
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: Zeke's Pizza, who's in here listening to you right now,
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: talking on the air.
- 1:03:36Speaker 2: Wow.
- 1:03:38Speaker 10: There you go.
- 1:03:38Speaker 1: Thanks for coming in, Greg. Greg, do you have pizza
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: that can go to New York City and get to
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: Manhattan by tomorrow?
- 1:03:44Speaker 7: I don't know about that, but she'll have to come
- 1:03:47Speaker 7: out here.
- 1:03:48Speaker 5: We'll gladly supply some pizza.
- 1:03:51Speaker 11: Well, we appreciate your support, Greg, and we appreciate Zeke's
- 1:03:54Speaker 11: Pizza here.
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: Thanks, Jory. We'll talk to you next Tuesday.
- 1:03:58Speaker 2: All right.
- 1:03:59Speaker 10: Talk to you soon, Greg.
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: Bye.
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: Thanks to Zeke's Pizza, zekespizza.com for Jory Epstein, our weekly
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: visit going around the NFL. She's really, she nailed the
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts thing. I mean, they, they need to have
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: a protocol, make sure this doesn't happen again for sure.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: But yeah, thanks. Ian Furness brought in.
- 1:04:17Speaker 5: Well, Greg brought it in.
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:04:20Speaker 9: Greg and I are in a fantasy football league together.
- 1:04:22Speaker 9: The oldest fantasy. I'm not going to get into this.
- 1:04:24Speaker 9: It's been a struggle for him. Um, The oldest fantasy
- 1:04:27Speaker 9: football league we think in Seattle. 50 years.
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: Whoa.
- 1:04:30Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:04:31Speaker 3: 50?
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: You're not even 50.
- 1:04:33Speaker 5: Oh, yeah. I wish.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: Wait, is that like the cash one you guys started?
- 1:04:36Speaker 5: It's a big.
- 1:04:37Speaker 3: Like the whiteboard one?
- 1:04:38Speaker 9: Well, it wasn't a whiteboard. We just this year graduated
- 1:04:42Speaker 9: to doing it online.
- 1:04:43Speaker 12: Greg, you're not even 50. You look like you're 40.
- 1:04:46Speaker 12: I turned 50 last week. Now I'm as old as...
- 1:04:50Speaker 12: Happy birthday! Dick Rockne, long time Seattle Times. It was
- 1:04:55Speaker 12: formed by a bunch of old writers and media guys
- 1:04:57Speaker 12: and SIDs at UW and so forth, and Joe Withey
- 1:05:01Speaker 12: from Emerald Downs, and then some of us have kind
- 1:05:03Speaker 12: of been morphed into it over the years. And so
- 1:05:05Speaker 12: I've met, I've known Greg for years and, uh, we
- 1:05:07Speaker 12: were talking and we got to get Zeke's back involved
- 1:05:09Speaker 12: and they're kind enough to. sponsor jory and uh and
- 1:05:13Speaker 12: also steve palazzolo every week for our show so nfl
- 1:05:15Speaker 12: lots of nfl talk and he brought lunch greg oh
- 1:05:18Speaker 12: he's got lunch for you guys he's got lunch jess
- 1:05:21Speaker 12: we got lunch here today so tell us tell us
- 1:05:24Speaker 12: about the new pizza that's spicy one.
- 1:05:25Speaker 7: All right so we've got uh calabrian chili pizzas going
- 1:05:29Speaker 7: for our um our seasonal during football season we did
- 1:05:33Speaker 7: it a couple years ago if you've uh calabrian chilies
- 1:05:36Speaker 7: might not be something everybody's familiar with but um It's
- 1:05:39Speaker 7: got some real heat. A lot of times places will
- 1:05:42Speaker 7: say something's hot, and it's not. But it's super unique.
- 1:05:46Speaker 7: It's unlike any other spice. You've got to check them out.
- 1:05:49Speaker 7: We've got six Calabrian pizzas going all through football season.
- 1:05:54Speaker 7: Every game day you can use the code PIGSKIN10 to
- 1:05:57Speaker 7: get $ 10 off or come to one of our stores
- 1:06:01Speaker 7: and get a $ 6 pint.
- 1:06:02Speaker 5: That's good for cracking games too. Oh, there you go.
- 1:06:05Speaker 7: We've got a location right by– Climate pledge. So, yeah, anyways,
- 1:06:09Speaker 7: give them a try if you like heat. And if
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: you don't, we've got something else for you. Did you
- 1:06:13Speaker 7: bring some of those today? I sure did.
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: Let's go.
- 1:06:16Speaker 5: Take a break, Greg.
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: Take a break. This may be a 15-minute break. We'll
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: be back. Thanks to Greg McCord and Zeech Pizza for
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: bringing us Jory Epstein. Up next, your chance to be
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: a part of the show, 49451 on the Tacoma Dodge
- 1:06:28Speaker 1: text line. 1130 and the talkbacks. You know Jessamyn's going
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: to play your talkbacks on the app or on our website.
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: Don't call me pretty. We're playing that back at some point, too.
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: 1135 Factor Fiction. Your chance to win $ 1, 000 from Lucky
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: Eagle Casino and Hotel. It's Jessamyn's NFL pick today. All
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: that's coming up next on 93.3 KJRFM.
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: Holy F.
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: This, another John Schneider trade.
- 1:07:14Speaker 2: Just knocking it.
- 1:07:16Speaker 5: Out of the park, man.
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: Oh, I love.
- 1:07:19Speaker 5: You so much, John Schneider.
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: It's so awesome that you're our GM. Like, suck it, Packers.
- 1:07:27Speaker 5: Hey, man, once again, we're in it to win it.
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: Go Hawks!
- 1:07:34Speaker 8: Regarding the UW, um, me you double um my kids
- 1:07:37Speaker 8: go there big supporter and what i'd say is i
- 1:07:41Speaker 8: don't mind a quarterback room costing us like six million
- 1:07:44Speaker 8: dollars under the new world of nil what i don't
- 1:07:47Speaker 8: want to pay for is a coach that would make
- 1:07:49Speaker 8: the wrong decision about winning a football.
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: Game okay there's one more i have to play just
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: to um just to self-own.
- 1:08:00Speaker 5: Here Jessamine is pretty. Jessamine is pretty.
- 1:08:04Speaker 7: Jessamine is pretty.
- 1:08:08Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: What was that?
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: I don't know who that was, but I said, don't
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: call me pretty. And that was, I had to play
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: it just because I have to self-own.
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: What do you mean self-own?
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: Because I was so mortified by that. It's pushing on
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: a bruise, Greg. It's pushing on a bruise. Okay, here's
- 1:08:30Speaker 2: another one.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Greg, that's not a Pete Carroll-ism. That's a Chuck Knox-ism
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: by Mike McDonald.
- 1:08:40Speaker 5: Got a knee.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Got a guy. Got an ankle. Could be out.
- 1:08:49Speaker 5: You got to remember that.
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: I do. I do.
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: Is that?
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: Yes, it is.
- 1:08:54Speaker 3: Was that guy in a tractor? In a helicopter?
- 1:08:56Speaker 1: It sounded like he was on a hayride. Or a helicopter.
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: That's true.
- 1:09:00Speaker 5: Yeah, that's Chuck Knox.
- 1:09:02Speaker 3: Background noise.
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I did not know that because I didn't live
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: through the Chuck Knox era.
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: Yeah, Chuck Knox. He's evolved. Mike McDonald has. He was
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: a lot less circumspect and big than he is now
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: about injuries. Like I said, next is going to be
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: a lower body injury. That's coming up next.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: I mean, they're doing that in college football now. I'm like,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: I just saw the guy's bones.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Sticking out of his ankle.
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: Yep. Not going to return. He's out with a lower
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: body injury. I'm like, he got guarded off the field.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure I'm aware of that. But it's all
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: kind of, I think everything just is tamped down. In hockey,
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: and Ian has brought this up in the past, in
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: hockey it makes more sense because people target that specific
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: body part. Right.
- 1:09:48Speaker 3: Where they can be vague, and I guess in football.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: But also bettors. Bettors are more, and they want every detail,
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: and bettors are more ingrained in the football, and the
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: football injury reports exist for the bettors. I mean, that's
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: the reason it exists. Hey, you want to win $ 1, 000?
- 1:10:03Speaker 2: You know what? Let's go to some fun stuff instead
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: of me getting frustrated about betting.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: We're set to go. Glad you're with us.
- 1:10:09Speaker 4: It's your shot at our weekly $ 1, 000 and the $ 10, 000
- 1:10:14Speaker 4: grand prize.
- 1:10:15Speaker 5: It's Fact or Fiction.
- 1:10:17Speaker 4: Proudly presented by Lucky Eagle Casino and Hotel, where every
- 1:10:21Speaker 4: day feels lucky.
- 1:10:22Speaker 5: Fact or Fiction is on. Sports Radio 93.3, KJR FM.
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: That's the NFL music because that's where Justin McIntyre does
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: her picks. She's a 500 hitter, which in the major
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: leagues would make you like.
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: I would be in the Hall of Fame for so.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:10:46Speaker 3: For like so many years. Like, yeah, I'd have all
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: the accolades.
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: You're doing fine. I'm doing great.
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: 500 works. I'm doing great. I've always wore a size medium.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: I've always been medium at everything.
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: Medium.
- 1:10:57Speaker 3: Now my job is pretty. I'm pretty good at that.
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: 360 says Jess is hot.
- 1:11:02Speaker 6: No.
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: I don't know what face that is.
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: They're just trying to embarrass me by saying that.
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: They like the Maddie Beneers jersey you're wearing.
- 1:11:10Speaker 3: On Kraken Ticket Tuesday.
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: It is a phenomenal jersey. And thank you, Kraken, because
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: this is just such a great design. I'm so excited
- 1:11:19Speaker 2: when I get to wear it because I'm like, I
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: don't have to plan an outfit. Because it doesn't matter
- 1:11:23Speaker 2: what else I wear with it. The jersey speaks.
- 1:11:26Speaker 1: Are you going to the Jets again? The Jets just
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: crushed you last week.
- 1:11:30Speaker 2: I think that I'm going to stay away because I
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: did not help them with that. And I'm one of
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: those people that actually thinks about superstitions, if you will.
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: I left a stadium because I went outside during halftime
- 1:11:48Speaker 2: during one of my dad's games and went to get
- 1:11:52Speaker 2: a soda and a snack when I was in eighth grade.
- 1:11:56Speaker 2: And I was late getting back in and they scored.
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: And then I came, when I got back in, they threw,
- 1:12:03Speaker 2: or the other team scored, and I left again and
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: I think intercepted the ball for, and it wasn't a pick.
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: Six, whatever. That's why I'm superstitious.
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: All right, what's your pick? People are waiting. I do
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: not know why I.
- 1:12:16Speaker 3: Went down that rabbit hole.
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: People are waiting.
- 1:12:18Speaker 3: I'm sorry.
- 1:12:19Speaker 2: So this is one of those spreads that I saw
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: that was a little too big for me to resist.
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: So I'm going with the Titans plus 10 at the Bengals.
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: Titans plus 10.
- 1:12:28Speaker 3: Titans plus 10. Now they're going to lose.
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: Titans stink.
- 1:12:32Speaker 5: Yeah, they do.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: From a record perspective, they absolutely do. However, look at
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: their game spreads. If you go and look at the
- 1:12:41Speaker 2: games that they've played, there's only been two two-score differentials.
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: And I don't think they're going to be that bad
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: against the Bengals this week.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: Titans plus 10, getting 10 points, meaning Jessamyn thinks they're
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: going to lose by 9 or fewer points at Cincinnati.
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: If you agree, text FACT to 49451. If you disagree,
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: text FICTION to 49451. You've got about 10, 11 minutes
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: to do that.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: I mean, look at this. This makes a lot of sense.
- 1:13:10Speaker 2: They lost to the Colts in the Colts' territory by
- 1:13:14Speaker 2: 6 points. They got throbbed by the Texans. That was
- 1:13:19Speaker 2: a bad one. But then you look at their Ravens' score.
- 1:13:22Speaker 3: Technically, that... It is a one-score game.
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: It was eight points, but that's technically a one-score game
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: if you get the two-point conversion.
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: The Giants at Giants. That was a five-point game. Then Eagles, 24-20.
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: And then you go to the beginning of the season,
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: and my stupid Jets beat them by 13 points. I
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: just think that they're going to lose, but not by
- 1:13:45Speaker 2: that margin. Anyway, but you could completely think I'm an
- 1:13:48Speaker 2: idiot because I just went on that diatribe about superstitions
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: just texting fiction.
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: Titans plus 10 at the Bengals. If you agree, text
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: back to 49451. If you disagree with Jessamyn, don't want
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: to win $ 1, 000, text fiction to 49451. That's how it
- 1:14:03Speaker 1: goes on this show. We're way out ahead of everybody else.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: on being facts. Yeah.
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: See, that's why I can be an idiot every once
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: in a while.
- 1:14:11Speaker 1: I like this.
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: So it's just too, too wide of a margin. I
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: think it'll be, you know, like seven, eight points.
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: The Seahawks in the last few minutes have confirmed their
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: trade of two draft picks, a 2027 third round pick
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: in a 2028 fifth round or two Indianapolis to acquire
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: three-time all pro guard, eight-time Provo guard, Quentin Nelson from
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: the Colts. The pending of physical is what the Seahawks say,
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: but they have a, Now, confirm the reports, multiple reports
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: of the trade. Seahawks acquiring Quentin Nelson from the Indianapolis Colts,
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: the all-pro guard. That's the big news of the day.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: That's what a lot of people on the text line
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: are talking about. 49451, the Tacoma Dots text line.
- 1:14:50Speaker 10: Wait, Greg.
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: Instant reaction to what they gave up.
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: Again, he loves his draft picks. Now, he's got 11
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: of them next year, and he's given up one of
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: his 11, and one in 28. But he's not giving
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: up two mid-round picks without... intending to re-sign Nelson. That's
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: my reaction. Multiple picks means Nelson's staying. Think Rashid Shaheed.
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: Think Ernest Jones. Think Leonard Williams. Think Dwayne Brown. All
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: his mid-season acquisitions he's made recently, he's re-signed them. He
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: hasn't rented them. He doesn't do rentals. If you're going
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: to take a couple draft picks from him, he's going
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: to re-sign that guy. So he's already had a talk
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: with the agent on what it's going to take to
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: re-sign Quentin Nelson. Quentin Nelson and Gray Zabel are going
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: to be the guards for the foreseeable future beyond 2026.
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: That's my instant reaction to that. 425 on the Comodage
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: text line. Schneider just traded for an F30, F350. That
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: means truck. Road grader. Improves wide receivers, running backs, quarterbacks,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: and the defense. What a trade. This will now force
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: the Niners and Rams to do something and maybe overpay also.
- 1:15:56Speaker 3: That's an interesting take.
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: We'll leave you also.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: Oh, wait.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: 206, can we get a Zeke's in Puyallup? Oh. Gray
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: McClure is right outside. I should ask him that.
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: How widespread are they? I didn't know they didn't have
- 1:16:10Speaker 3: one on the south end.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Yeah, they're pretty close to Seattle. I think there's one
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: in my neighborhood.
- 1:16:15Speaker 3: There's one in mine, too.
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: Green Lake.
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: Yep. Yeah, we have one up in Edmonds. But I
- 1:16:21Speaker 2: just don't... I don't know. We should get Greg back
- 1:16:25Speaker 2: in here.
- 1:16:26Speaker 3: But yeah, uh.
- 1:16:29Speaker 2: Zeke, they got that spicy pepper stuff going on out there.
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. I had a bite of that. It was
- 1:16:34Speaker 1: kind of hot. I was coughing a little bit.
- 1:16:38Speaker 3: That's what happened?
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:16:40Speaker 3: Clearing out those sinuses. Yeah.
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: 425 says, on Donald's one interception against the Chiefs, two
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: receivers ran into one another. That was Shahid and Jackson
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: Smith and Jigba. Smith and Jigba took blame for that,
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: saying he was trying to do too much. And he
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: went off of his assigned route and basically got into
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Shahid's area. That drew three Chiefs defenders into the back
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: of the end zone, and that's where Darnold threw the ball.
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: That was what Smith and Jigma said. So he took
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: the blame for it. And Sam Darnold's reaction to that, well,
- 1:17:11Speaker 1: Jackson's a very good teammate. That's what he said about that.
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: Well, yeah, I thought that that was just like, I
- 1:17:20Speaker 2: don't know, like a unification of the teammates. I like
- 1:17:23Speaker 2: seeing them back each other up that way. It just
- 1:17:26Speaker 2: tells me that the locker room is just fine. It
- 1:17:30Speaker 2: is just fine.
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: To a lot of people echoing what the 206 is,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: I think the Hawks should move Zabel to center and
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: replace Sundell, which has experience doing so. He doesn't have
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: a lot of experience at center. He just did it
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: at the Senior Bowl to show NFL scouts he could
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: do it. He played guard and tackle for North Dakota State.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: So I don't know about experience at center. He's done
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: it in practices at the Senior Bowl.
- 1:17:52Speaker 3: I would ask him.
- 1:17:52Speaker 2: I mean, the next time there's locker room availability, ask
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: him what his preference would be moving inside or outside.
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: 253 says the team is always better with a Notre
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: Dame stud on board. Nelson makes four of them for
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: the Seahawks.
- 1:18:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: Jadarian Price, Quentin Nelson, Julian Love. Who am I missing
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: off the top of my head? Notre Dame guys. Julian Love.
- 1:18:12Speaker 3: Jadarian Price.
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: Jadarian Price. I said that. Oh, okay. Quentin Nelson would
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: be three. Why am I forgetting the fourth?
- 1:18:22Speaker 3: I can't come up with it.
- 1:18:22Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: I can't come up with who.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: The fourth Notre Dame guy is either. Oh, Riley Mills. Oh, duh.
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: 206 says, yep, still worried about Sam Darnold's turnovers. 425,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: regarding Sam Darnold, he is a quarterback that needs time
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: to throw. If he gets happy feet of pressure, he
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: will make mistakes. That's okay. Strengthen our offensive line. Give
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: him time to throw. He's got a hell of an
- 1:18:41Speaker 1: arm and a good football mind. I love him. I
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: love Sam Darnold. What detail is everyone forgetting to add
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: about Sam's interception, 2538? ball was tipped. Was it? Watching
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: it live in the press box, I didn't notice it
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: was tipped.
- 1:18:56Speaker 2: I didn't, and sometimes just like the scratch of a
- 1:19:00Speaker 2: glove counts as a tip.
- 1:19:02Speaker 3: I didn't see a deflection. That was obvious.
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: I don't remember a tip. Alright, Ian's up next. He's
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: outside eating pizza. I'm going to have to pull him
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: away from the Zeke's Pizza that's outside. Ian's going to
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: tell us what he's got on the show next on
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: 93.3 KJR. Welcome back. If you missed our talk with
- 1:19:29Speaker 1: Jory Epstein, including what she's learned being in Philadelphia about
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: the Jalen Hurts situation, the union investigating that situation. Her
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: view of the Cowboys' Brian Schottenheimer suddenly becoming a run-first
- 1:19:40Speaker 1: Marty Schottenheimer last night. If you missed that, go to
- 1:19:42Speaker 1: the iHeartRadio app, download it for free if you haven't already, 933KJR,
- 1:19:47Speaker 1: or our website, 933KJR. com, The Greg Bell Show, and you
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: can play that back whenever you feel like it. The
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: window probably just closed on Jessamyn's pick of Titans plus
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: 10 at the Bengals. That's our latest Factor Fiction pick.
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: The next one will be 235 with Ian Furness. You're smiling, Ian, like, No,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: I didn't chase, by the way.
- 1:20:05Speaker 5: I heard you guys earlier. I didn't chase this week.
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: You didn't this week.
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: I didn't.
- 1:20:07Speaker 9: No, I didn't feel good about the chase. The one
- 1:20:11Speaker 9: I did feel good about was the over, which it
- 1:20:13Speaker 9: hit for Monday night. But Chuck had done the ender earlier.
- 1:20:16Speaker 9: I didn't want to just go. I'd wait later in
- 1:20:19Speaker 9: the week to do that. I didn't have a good
- 1:20:22Speaker 9: feel for that game. That game actually sucked anyway. For
- 1:20:27Speaker 9: the quote-unquote equinox yesterday, it was– Like, the football game
- 1:20:32Speaker 9: was eh, and the baseball game was awful.
- 1:20:34Speaker 5: The whole series has been awful.
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: Eight runs. Awful, except if you like how baseball is played.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I mean, that's true baseball.
- 1:20:41Speaker 5: Right, but it's just not compelling right now.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: No, it's not competitive.
- 1:20:44Speaker 5: But what about Quentin Nelson?
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: Man, they go for it again. Another John Schneider splash
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: in the middle of the season. And I mentioned earlier.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: He doesn't do Reynolds.
- 1:20:54Speaker 6: No.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: He's going to re-sign Quentin Nelson.
- 1:20:56Speaker 5: Am I missing anybody?
- 1:20:57Speaker 9: So Leonard Williams, Ernest Jones, Rashid Shaheed. Those are the
- 1:21:01Speaker 9: three big ones he's made recently, right, in season? Am
- 1:21:03Speaker 9: I missing somebody? I don't think so, right? Are those
- 1:21:07Speaker 9: the three big ones?
- 1:21:08Speaker 1: Those are the three big ones.
- 1:21:08Speaker 3: In the Mike McDonald era, I think those.
- 1:21:10Speaker 5: Are the big ones.
- 1:21:11Speaker 9: And Dwayne Brown before that. Leonard Williams was before that,
- 1:21:13Speaker 9: but yes, correct. But yeah, that, because Leonard came in
- 1:21:17Speaker 9: here Pete's last year, I believe, or the year 2022?
- 1:21:20Speaker 2: Yeah, 2022.
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah. But they've re-signed them all. They don't do rentals.
- 1:21:26Speaker 9: I remember having that discussion on the air when Leonard
- 1:21:29Speaker 9: Williams was traded for and having a debate on the
- 1:21:32Speaker 9: air with guys that aren't here anymore.
- 1:21:33Speaker 5: And they're like, oh, it's a dumb trade. Why would
- 1:21:35Speaker 5: you do that?
- 1:21:36Speaker 9: And you know when you're around enough, you get the little–
- 1:21:40Speaker 9: the plan all along was to re-sign Leonard Williams. And
- 1:21:42Speaker 9: then people were like saying, well, why would you re-sign
- 1:21:43Speaker 9: Leonard Williams? Well, you're looking at Leonard Williams in New York.
- 1:21:46Speaker 9: You're not looking at Leonard Williams here.
- 1:21:48Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 1:21:49Speaker 5: And then they did re-sign him not once but twice, right?
- 1:21:51Speaker 5: Or the one time.
- 1:21:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:21:53Speaker 9: That's the plan, and there's no way you're giving up
- 1:21:55Speaker 9: that draft capital with Quentin Nelson not to re-sign him,
- 1:21:58Speaker 9: and there's no way that you're making that trade. Correct
- 1:22:00Speaker 9: me if I'm wrong. There's no way you're making that
- 1:22:02Speaker 9: trade unless you've gone down the path with the agent
- 1:22:04Speaker 9: to find out is there an interest to re-sign him.
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: He already knows from the agent what the number is.
- 1:22:09Speaker 1: And is he willing to do it? And the answer
- 1:22:11Speaker 1: is yes, or else they wouldn't have made the deal. Now,
- 1:22:15Speaker 1: Anthony Bradford, in the meantime, I think Bradford may be
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: the next trade. I think that Snyder's going to turn
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: around and say, well, wait, we've got three guards for
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: two spots, and he's going to trade and maybe recoup
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: one of those fifth-round picks he gave up for Anthony Bradford.
- 1:22:28Speaker 9: Because one of the things that I– I was just
- 1:22:31Speaker 9: mentioning this to Purple Sheet Bossman out there a minute ago.
- 1:22:34Speaker 9: I said, yes, Gray Zabel played everywhere in college except
- 1:22:38Speaker 9: for center, but then he worked out at center in
- 1:22:40Speaker 9: the Super Bowl. But I don't– and you've watched more
- 1:22:45Speaker 9: practice than me, but all the minicamps, OTAs, and training
- 1:22:48Speaker 9: camps where we can see the entire practice– I don't
- 1:22:50Speaker 9: ever remember seeing Gray Zabel work outside.
- 1:22:52Speaker 4: Nope.
- 1:22:52Speaker 5: Not one snap.
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: Nope.
- 1:22:54Speaker 5: Okay, so I think you can take that off the table.
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: I don't think he's... Although he started his senior year
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: at left tackle at North Dakota State. Agree. But you're right.
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: He has not done it at all.
- 1:23:02Speaker 5: And not at all here.
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: So, yes. Do they move Zabel to right guard, which
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: he did play junior year.
- 1:23:08Speaker 5: Probably.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: He played his junior season over there at North Dakota State.
- 1:23:11Speaker 9: I wouldn't be surprised if we see a rotation the
- 1:23:12Speaker 9: first week with him and Bradford at right guard. Depending
- 1:23:16Speaker 9: on how long it takes Nelson to get up to speed.
- 1:23:18Speaker 9: I would think a guy like that will be up
- 1:23:19Speaker 9: to speed by Monday.
- 1:23:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I think so. I would think. But yeah, it
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: would seem like Anthony Bradford's days are not numbered because
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: you don't give up two picks.
- 1:23:29Speaker 9: Last year was contracts. Maybe they saw they weren't going
- 1:23:32Speaker 9: to spend the money. They didn't want to spend what
- 1:23:33Speaker 9: it would cost. They know what the market is.
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: They'd rather spend it on a 30-year-old Quentin Nelson instead
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: of a 26-year-old Anthony Bradford.
- 1:23:39Speaker 5: Yep, perfect.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: What do you got today?
- 1:23:41Speaker 9: We'll obviously talk a lot about that, what it means,
- 1:23:44Speaker 9: the bigger picture. I'm going to lean on somebody that
- 1:23:47Speaker 9: I might live with for a little breakdown of what
- 1:23:49Speaker 9: Quentin Nelson is. I know one offensive lineman. Are you
- 1:23:53Speaker 9: going to have him on the air?
- 1:23:54Speaker 5: At 1 o'clock.
- 1:23:54Speaker 9: We had him on the air for the draft a
- 1:23:56Speaker 9: couple years ago, and he did okay.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: He was great.
- 1:23:59Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:23:59Speaker 1: He did okay. He did pretty good. He was great. Yeah.
- 1:24:02Speaker 9: And so as many interviews as he's going through right
- 1:24:05Speaker 9: now for his firefighting world, he's getting better at that stuff.
- 1:24:07Speaker 9: So we're going to– I got a text from him, fellow,
- 1:24:10Speaker 9: this is this, this, this, and this, and This guy
- 1:24:12Speaker 9: can do this. And I said, okay, well, then you're
- 1:24:14Speaker 9: going to come on the air.
- 1:24:15Speaker 2: Didn't he and Hugh chew each other's ears off one time?
- 1:24:21Speaker 5: Yes.
- 1:24:22Speaker 9: I was privy to the half of that conversation. It
- 1:24:26Speaker 9: was amazing.
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: That's respect, though.
- 1:24:29Speaker 5: Real fast.
- 1:24:31Speaker 9: Hugh was trying to figure out, and this is a
- 1:24:34Speaker 9: Hugh Millen thing, the one extra half step for something this,
- 1:24:39Speaker 9: something that. And how does that affect the quarterback? How
- 1:24:41Speaker 9: does it affect the lineman? An extra hitch here. And
- 1:24:43Speaker 9: it was an amazing conversation. I only heard half of it.
- 1:24:45Speaker 9: So anyway, we'll break that down. Because I think there
- 1:24:48Speaker 9: is a difference. Left guard, right? There is a difference
- 1:24:50Speaker 9: for offensive linemen. Also the chemistry between the linemen. How
- 1:24:54Speaker 9: hard is that to gain and gather? This might be
- 1:24:56Speaker 9: the week to do with Jones playing left tackle anyway.
- 1:24:59Speaker 9: So we'll talk about the impact of Quentin Nelson. Wide
- 1:25:01Speaker 9: zone game, pass blocking, all that stuff. We'll get to that,
- 1:25:05Speaker 9: what this means for Seattle.
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: At 1 o'clock.
- 1:25:07Speaker 5: We're going to do a little college football today, too.
- 1:25:09Speaker 1: I think it's broken.
- 1:25:10Speaker 5: I think it's badly broken.
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: It sure is.
- 1:25:12Speaker 5: Very badly broken.
- 1:25:13Speaker 9: So with our normal visit with the Cougs, which will
- 1:25:15Speaker 9: be later on today, we're going to jump into that
- 1:25:17Speaker 9: a little bit more, the bigger picture. And actually, I'm
- 1:25:18Speaker 9: going to have Kim Grenells on from a dog man
- 1:25:20Speaker 9: at 120, because I don't think it's working out for anybody.
- 1:25:22Speaker 1: Sure not for the Huskies.
- 1:25:24Speaker 5: Just unless there's a handful of teams it's been great for,
- 1:25:27Speaker 5: and the networks. That's about it.
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: So we'll talk about that, too, and get some fans.
- 1:25:30Speaker 9: We've got a lot of interaction coming up with our
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: listeners today. Puget Pounder, Cherry Bomb. You can only have
- 1:25:35Speaker 9: one of the Zeke's pizzas. Puget Pounder is the pepperoni,
- 1:25:39Speaker 9: Canadian bacon, Italian sausage, mushroom, black olive. Cherry bomb, little peppers, sausage.
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: Cherry bomb.
- 1:25:44Speaker 9: Okay, there you go. I go cherry bomb, but I can't.
- 1:25:48Speaker 9: Thank you to Zeke's Pizza for coming by.
- 1:25:49Speaker 5: That's awesome.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: Thanks for doing that.
- 1:25:50Speaker 5: Zeke'sPizza.com.
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: Thanks, Greg.
- 1:25:51Speaker 5: Shout out to him.
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: All right. Thank you, sir. Ian Frenes, Kiefer Frenes are
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: up next. Greg Belgester and McIntyre appreciate it. We'll do
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: it again tomorrow. I'll be in the studio because the
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: Seahawks aren't on the field until Thursday because of the
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: Monday night game on 93.3 KGFM.
