- 1:55SPEAKER_11: I know, that's why it would be so funny.
- 1:58SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 1:59SPEAKER_11: And then in the back, in the back, the student that does my dad jokes on Tuesdays and Thursdays, she says, Ah, you should have me on the podcast.
- 2:08SPEAKER_11: I would I would tell all the dad jokes.

- 3:49SPEAKER_05: You see it is entertaining, actually.
- 3:52SPEAKER_05: It really is.
- 3:54SPEAKER_09: It's entertaining just to see how bad they're gonna be.
- 3:57SPEAKER_09: Oh, they're bad.
- 3:58SPEAKER_09: But they're but they're it's it's so bad it's funny.

- 5:16SPEAKER_11: The first part of this message came on Valentine's Day.
- 5:19SPEAKER_09: Oh, so it's not too bad.
- 5:20SPEAKER_09: I guess it wasn't so bad.
- 5:21SPEAKER_09: So it's a it's a week or so.
- 5:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 5:23SPEAKER_11: So uh and it's from Bouncin' Bob.
- 5:25SPEAKER_11: Bob! So Bob says, just finished episode 230 and enjoyed it.
- 5:30SPEAKER_11: I thought you might like to host your own March Madness.
- 5:34SPEAKER_11: Instead of 64 basketball teams, you could identify 64 rock bands and place the rock bands into the brackets a la March Madness.
- 5:43SPEAKER_11: Both you and Doug, and maybe cousin Larry or your son, independently fill out the brackets on the podcast to compare your results.
- 5:52SPEAKER_09: I actually like this.
- 5:53SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 5:54SPEAKER_11: And then, of course, there was our reply.
- 5:56SPEAKER_11: Hi, friendly friends.
- 5:58SPEAKER_09: Our standard reply, yes.
- 6:00SPEAKER_11: We love you very much.
- 6:02SPEAKER_11: Kisses.
- 6:03SPEAKER_11: Uh I I did reply to him.
- 6:04SPEAKER_11: I said, Great idea, Bob.
- 6:05SPEAKER_11: Might require planning, which we are terrible at, but could be fun.
- 6:08SPEAKER_11: Thanks.
- 6:10SPEAKER_11: And then he and then he sent a final four bracket.
- 6:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, look at that! Right?
- 6:15SPEAKER_11: Bob coming through.
- 6:16SPEAKER_10: And then he sent the 64 bands.
- 6:19SPEAKER_09: Oh, he's already given us the bands.
- 6:21SPEAKER_11: Apparently, yeah.
- 6:22SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 6:23SPEAKER_11: Um, I'll just read a few of them.
- 6:24SPEAKER_11: Dawkins, ACDC, Jimi Hendrix, Leonard Skinner, Warrant, Foo Fighters, Red Hot Chili, and the list goes on.
- 6:30SPEAKER_11: So there's the 64 bands.
- 6:31SPEAKER_11: Look at Bob Go.
- 6:32SPEAKER_11: Bob should play with us.
- 6:33SPEAKER_11: Oh, he said 65 bands on the list.
- 6:36SPEAKER_11: He says uh uh We got like a Cinderella one?
- 6:39SPEAKER_11: Take on out on play in game.
- 6:42SPEAKER_11: I don't know, I can't really decode this, Bob.
- 6:44SPEAKER_11: Take on out on play.
- 6:47SPEAKER_09: Sounds like take one out.
- 6:48SPEAKER_11: Take one out on play in game triumph versus sex pistols.
- 6:53SPEAKER_09: I I'm not sure what he means, but so like a like the last spot?
- 6:57SPEAKER_11: Triumph versus sex pistols.
- 6:59SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 6:59SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 6:59SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 7:00SPEAKER_11: I kind of see what he said.
- 7:00SPEAKER_11: He says, let me know who wins the play in game.
- 7:05SPEAKER_09: So I think this is this could be fun.
- 7:07SPEAKER_09: This I actually I've been really excited about this.
- 7:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I think I think we should do it.
- 7:11SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 7:12SPEAKER_11: Uh March Madness is, of course, what, the middle of March, right?
- 7:14SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 7:15SPEAKER_11: End of March.
- 7:16SPEAKER_09: We got a couple weeks.
- 7:17SPEAKER_11: Okay, so we can put this out and we can fill it out.
- 7:19SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 7:20SPEAKER_11: Um figure.
- 7:21SPEAKER_09: I like it.
- 7:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: Good job.
- 7:22SPEAKER_11: Bob, you are awesome, man.
- 7:24SPEAKER_11: You are, man.
- 7:25SPEAKER_11: I told you it was a good idea.
- 7:26SPEAKER_11: Now, whether we actually do this remains to see.
- 7:30SPEAKER_09: Well, we got to remind ourselves.
- 7:31SPEAKER_09: That's the thing.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: We have a plan for that.
- 7:32SPEAKER_09: We have a plan, yes.
- 7:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I mean, he's taken all the busy work out of it.
- 7:35SPEAKER_09: He really, he really has.
- 7:36SPEAKER_09: Because I was like, man, how am I going to come up with 64 bands?
- 7:40SPEAKER_11: Right, and there they are.
- 7:40SPEAKER_11: There he is.
- 7:41SPEAKER_11: He's right there.
- 7:42SPEAKER_09: He's already done it.
- 7:43SPEAKER_09: So we have to do it.
- 7:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we have to.
- 7:44SPEAKER_09: I mean, he's already done all the work, legwork.
- 7:46SPEAKER_09: All we got to do is just, you know, follow through it.
- 7:48SPEAKER_11: Exactly.
- 7:48SPEAKER_11: So I'll try, I'll print this stuff off and we'll Yeah, we've got to make sure cousin Larry gets it.
- 7:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah because I'm really good at letting cousin and all your notions.
- 7:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, did he get back to you?
- 7:56SPEAKER_09: Yes, he did.
- 7:56SPEAKER_09: Because he's the man.
- 7:57SPEAKER_11: Okay, good.
- 7:59SPEAKER_11: We forgot to tell cousin Larry what the uh mixtape question was last week.
- 8:04SPEAKER_09: So I forget stuff.
- 8:05SPEAKER_11: I'm old.
- 8:06SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 8:07SPEAKER_11: Um let's let's get the the depressing stuff out of the way.
- 8:10SPEAKER_11: Uh depressing.
- 8:11SPEAKER_11: Well, we lost a couple people.
- 8:13SPEAKER_11: Who do we lost?
- 8:14SPEAKER_11: We lost Roberta Flack.
- 8:16SPEAKER_11: I didn't hear about this.
- 8:17SPEAKER_11: Yes, Roberta Flack.
- 8:18SPEAKER_11: And of course, you know who I love this song so freaking much.
- 8:22SPEAKER_09: Me too.
- 8:23SPEAKER_09: I even like the Fuji.
- 8:24SPEAKER_09: I do too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_09: I do too.
- 8:26SPEAKER_09: But I like this the original's the best.
- 8:28SPEAKER_05: Killing me so with his song.
- 8:31SPEAKER_05: How old was she?
- 8:33SPEAKER_09: She was.
- 8:34SPEAKER_11: She had to be in her 80s, man.
- 8:35SPEAKER_11: 88.
- 8:36SPEAKER_11: I knew it, man.
- 8:38SPEAKER_11: Um I don't know if there's a cause of death, but she was 88.
- 8:43SPEAKER_11: I mean she lived a good life.
- 8:45SPEAKER_11: I would say it's natural causes, probably.
- 8:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 8:49SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 8:49SPEAKER_11: Great song.
- 8:50SPEAKER_11: Well, she got a great voice, man.
- 8:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah, for sure.
- 8:53SPEAKER_11: And we had, let's see.
- 8:55SPEAKER_11: I picked this one, obviously, because this is the one that she's known most for.
- 8:58SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 8:59SPEAKER_11: But also, uh, you have this one.
- 9:02SPEAKER_11: If it's a commercial, I'm gonna pause it for a second.
- 9:05SPEAKER_11: Or like mute her.
- 9:07SPEAKER_11: This one with uh with Donnie Hathaway.
- 9:14SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah!
- 9:15SPEAKER_11: Forgot about this song, sir I get to you.
- 9:17SPEAKER_09: Great song, also, yeah.
- 9:25SPEAKER_11: Such an amazing voice.
- 9:26SPEAKER_09: Yeah, great voice, great voice.
- 9:30SPEAKER_11: Alright, sing Roberta.
- 9:33SPEAKER_09: Singer.
- 9:34SPEAKER_09: Sing it.
- 9:42SPEAKER_09: Here she comes.
- 9:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 9:44SPEAKER_05: The closer I get to you.
- 9:47SPEAKER_11: Great boy.
- 9:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah, absolutely.
- 9:49SPEAKER_11: So rest in peace, Roberta Flack.
- 9:51SPEAKER_11: Oops, I didn't mean too bad.
- 9:52SPEAKER_11: I guess I didn't mean to do that.
- 9:53SPEAKER_11: Because I didn't hear anything about it.
- 9:55SPEAKER_09: Uh I mean I literally heard nothing.
- 9:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 9:58SPEAKER_11: Well, I think it was just today, actually.
- 9:59SPEAKER_11: Oh, maybe that's true.
- 10:00SPEAKER_11: That it was an actual today or yesterday, something like that.
- 10:03SPEAKER_11: Um, and one more, kind of a one-hit wonder.
- 10:06SPEAKER_11: He well, he actually had more than one hit, but there's one hit that he was really known for.
- 10:10SPEAKER_11: The only hit that really kind of had chart success for him.
- 10:14SPEAKER_11: I don't know if you've ever ever heard of Robert John.
- 10:18SPEAKER_11: What just happened there?
- 10:20SPEAKER_11: What is that?
- 10:20SPEAKER_11: That doesn't look good.
- 10:21SPEAKER_11: No, uh Robert John.
- 10:23SPEAKER_11: Now, I remember this song as a kid.
- 10:27SPEAKER_11: And I love this song.
- 10:30SPEAKER_11: Um I'll just I'll just play it.
- 10:50SPEAKER_11: He had suffered a stroke a number of years ago and was dealing with the effects of that, so he I guess it was kind of natural classes as well.
- 10:57SPEAKER_09: But I don't know the song.
- 10:58SPEAKER_11: Yes, you do.
- 10:59SPEAKER_11: Do I?
- 11:01SPEAKER_11: Um, I don't know what it is about this song, but but this is a big song from when I was a kid in the 70s.
- 11:10SPEAKER_11: I always thought he was a kid in the 70s, how come I know?
- 11:15SPEAKER_11: Oh, yep.
- 11:16SPEAKER_11: Now you do.
- 11:16SPEAKER_11: Now I remember.
- 11:17SPEAKER_11: It's the chorus.
- 11:18SPEAKER_11: The chorus to me, it just hits me because it's it's nostalgic for me.
- 11:24SPEAKER_11: From what I remember listening to it when I was a kid and like swinging church, right?
- 11:29SPEAKER_11: Well, he's kind of a Leo Stayer type voice.
- 11:31SPEAKER_11: He does.
- 11:32SPEAKER_11: Very yeah, yeah.
- 11:32SPEAKER_11: His falsetto or whatever.
- 11:34SPEAKER_11: I always thought he was related to Elton John.
- 11:37SPEAKER_11: Robert Johnson.
- 11:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 11:39SPEAKER_11: Well, that's not even Elton John's real name.
- 11:41SPEAKER_09: And this is not his real name either.
- 12:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I guess such a great idea.
- 12:12SPEAKER_09: It's a great song.
- 12:13SPEAKER_11: Uh, and then at the end where he's like um just really giving it his oh let me just skip here.
- 12:21SPEAKER_05: Good guitar solo at even key changer modulation.
- 12:55SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 12:55SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 12:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 12:58SPEAKER_11: And uh, you know, I'm looking, so of course I'm playing this off YouTube.
- 13:01SPEAKER_11: That's sad eyes, by the way, is the name of the song from Robert John.
- 13:05SPEAKER_11: And I'm looking at all these other songs, like uh Randy Van Warmer, Just When I Needed You Most.
- 13:10SPEAKER_11: You know that song?
- 13:12SPEAKER_11: You left me just when I needed you most.
- 13:15SPEAKER_11: Baby Come Back.
- 13:17SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 13:18SPEAKER_11: We should do like a whole podcast segment on that type of stuff.
- 13:21SPEAKER_11: Would you consider that's is that Yacht Rock?
- 13:24SPEAKER_11: Player, Baby Come Back is probably Yacht Rock.
- 13:27SPEAKER_09: I've heard that on Yacht Rock.
- 13:28SPEAKER_09: Baby Comeback?
- 13:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:30SPEAKER_09: I've heard that on Yacht Rock.
- 13:31SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 13:31SPEAKER_09: So yeah, you could consider it yacht rock.
- 13:33SPEAKER_09: Because it's late 70s, early 80s.
- 13:35SPEAKER_09: Maybe we already did a yacht rock.
- 13:36SPEAKER_09: Did we already do a yacht rock episode?
- 13:38SPEAKER_09: I think we must have.
- 13:39SPEAKER_09: Oh, maybe ages ago, but that doesn't mean we can't go back.
- 13:42SPEAKER_09: This is true.
- 13:43SPEAKER_09: It's our podcast.
- 13:44SPEAKER_09: We do whatever we want.
- 13:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 13:46SPEAKER_11: I I'd like to because I I love it.
- 13:48SPEAKER_09: Let's do it.
- 13:49SPEAKER_09: Let's do a yacht yacht rock podcast.
- 13:51SPEAKER_11: There's a uh um uh documentary uh which I haven't seen yet.
- 13:57SPEAKER_09: I haven't seen it either, but I can't remember where I saw it.
- 13:59SPEAKER_09: I saw the trailer for.
- 14:00SPEAKER_09: Is it Netflix?
- 14:01SPEAKER_11: Is it on Netflix?
- 14:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, if it's Netflix, I'm not gonna see it.
- 14:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah, me either.
- 14:05SPEAKER_11: Or is it Tulu or something?
- 14:06SPEAKER_11: I don't know.
- 14:07SPEAKER_11: It's one of the two.

- 16:35SPEAKER_11: I thought that was uh pretty cool.
- 16:37SPEAKER_11: I thought you would.
- 16:38SPEAKER_09: It'd be cool to meet the original drummer of the Beatles.
- 16:40SPEAKER_09: Wouldn't it?
- 16:41SPEAKER_09: That'd be very cool.
- 16:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 16:43SPEAKER_11: Uh I want to see if this has an update on this is because this update came last week.
- 16:52SPEAKER_11: The end of the week.

- 16:56SPEAKER_09: Have they taken our suggestion and changed the name of the rock and roll hall?
- 16:59SPEAKER_11: They have not, no.
- 17:00SPEAKER_11: They have a fan vote.
- 17:02SPEAKER_11: Um and let's see.
- 17:04SPEAKER_11: The f the fan vote uh it looks like fish is winning the fan vote.
- 17:11SPEAKER_11: Fish?
- 17:12SPEAKER_09: You guys like fish?
- 17:13SPEAKER_09: What are you tied?
- 17:16SPEAKER_11: That's an inside joke.
- 17:20SPEAKER_11: Do we have to tell that story?
- 17:21SPEAKER_11: We should we should tell that story.
- 17:24SPEAKER_11: So we were on our first.
- 17:26SPEAKER_11: This is Common Crossing.
- 17:27SPEAKER_11: We were on our first uh road trip, right?
- 17:30SPEAKER_11: We were playing a wedding down in central Maine somewhere, right?
- 17:35SPEAKER_11: Lincoln or something like that.
- 17:36SPEAKER_09: Well, it was outside of it was like a it was like you hit Lincoln and you turn left and you drive in the middle of nowhere, and there was a oh, it was Burlington.
- 17:43SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's what it was.
- 17:44SPEAKER_11: Burlington.
- 17:44SPEAKER_11: Lincoln, Maine, yeah, yeah.
- 17:46SPEAKER_11: And we're playing in this, I don't know, Grange Hall or whatever.
- 17:49SPEAKER_09: Had no had no indoor plumbing.
- 17:53SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 17:54SPEAKER_09: It lives large in the Common Crossing legend.
- 17:57SPEAKER_09: So uh w uh I think we were outside.
- 18:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, we we had just gotten there.
- 18:03SPEAKER_11: We hadn't been there maybe five, ten minutes.
- 18:05SPEAKER_11: And somebody said, What kind of music do you play or something?
- 18:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 18:08SPEAKER_09: No, it was this guy.
- 18:09SPEAKER_09: I remember I remember clear.
- 18:11SPEAKER_09: We were trying to unpack the van.
- 18:12SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 18:13SPEAKER_09: And this guy, and it's this is like nine o'clock in the morning.
- 18:16SPEAKER_09: This guy comes over, he kind of wanders over.
- 18:18SPEAKER_09: He's already got a beer in his hand, so you know how well this conversation's gonna go.
- 18:22SPEAKER_09: So he kind of comes over, he goes, I think he asked where we were from.
- 18:25SPEAKER_09: We told him, you know, Roosted County.
- 18:27SPEAKER_09: And this was right like a couple months before the first time Fish came to Loring and did the big big concerts there, like multi-day concerts.
- 18:37SPEAKER_09: He's like, uh, and he was talking, he's like, Oh, you guys gonna go see fish?
- 18:42SPEAKER_09: And we're like, nah, we're not really big fans of fish.
- 18:44SPEAKER_09: And this is this is a quote, and please forgive me for using this word, but this is verbatim what he said.
- 18:51SPEAKER_09: You guys don't like fish?
- 18:52SPEAKER_09: What are you fucking we tatted?
- 18:57SPEAKER_09: And what did we say?
- 18:58SPEAKER_09: I don't remember what we said.
- 19:00SPEAKER_09: We were just like, I guess so.
- 19:03SPEAKER_09: Yes, sir, we are.
- 19:05SPEAKER_09: Go have another beer, dude.
- 19:08SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 19:10SPEAKER_09: So that was just the first of many, many lines that we had.
- 19:15SPEAKER_11: We got a great song out of that trip.
- 19:16SPEAKER_11: We did.
- 19:16SPEAKER_11: The band in the band in the band, which is a favorite for a lot of people, actually.
- 19:19SPEAKER_11: I know, it's pretty good.
- 19:20SPEAKER_11: Well, and it's a fun song.
- 19:21SPEAKER_11: It is a fun song.
- 19:22SPEAKER_11: It is a fun song.
- 19:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it is a fun song.
- 19:24SPEAKER_11: Uh so yeah, Fish is leading the way for the Fanville.
- 19:27SPEAKER_11: Billy Idol's in second place, Soundgarden is in third, followed by Cindy Lopper, Bad Company, Joe Cocker, and Chubby Checker.
- 19:35SPEAKER_11: Oh, wow.
- 19:36SPEAKER_11: All of those people deserve to be in the rock and roll hall.
- 19:38SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 19:39SPEAKER_11: Um I don't know.
- 19:42SPEAKER_11: I just wanted to kind of check in on that and see how that's going.
- 19:45SPEAKER_11: So if you wanted to uh change that, go to rockhall.com and vote for I haven't done my voting yet.
- 19:52SPEAKER_11: I don't really care that much, yeah.
- 19:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 19:56SPEAKER_11: Um, okay.
- 19:57SPEAKER_11: Oh, and I wanted to tell you what I was doing here.
- 20:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I see cassettes.
- 20:01SPEAKER_11: So I have cassettes.
- 20:03SPEAKER_11: So I was uh kind of listening because I've been really down on myself.
- 20:09SPEAKER_11: Really down on myself.
- 20:11SPEAKER_09: Your songwriting?
- 20:12SPEAKER_09: Yes.
- 20:13SPEAKER_11: Because I haven't.
- 20:14SPEAKER_11: No.
- 20:15SPEAKER_11: You know, um and I was just uh there were a couple of things that I was looking for, and there are song I found so what I found were these cassettes of us.
- 20:27SPEAKER_11: Um some of them are kind of what we thought were albums at the time, but they are terrible recordings.
- 20:35SPEAKER_09: Well, they're more just like demos.
- 20:36SPEAKER_09: They were, yeah.
- 20:37SPEAKER_09: Really, yeah, yeah.
- 20:38SPEAKER_11: It was a four little four-track recorder.
- 20:40SPEAKER_11: And yeah, and we pl we used a f we we got our money's worth out of it.
- 20:44SPEAKER_11: Oh, yes, for sure.
- 20:46SPEAKER_11: And I was just I was kind of going through, not that I can um I can't put them through this system, I I don't think, but I was friends.
- 20:58SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 21:01SPEAKER_09: That cheesy freaking drum machine.
- 21:04SPEAKER_09: I've never felt such wonderful pain to But I don't even remember what this I don't even remember writing this song.
- 21:15SPEAKER_09: Is it another Nate poem that you turned into a song?
- 21:18SPEAKER_09: It might be.
- 21:22SPEAKER_11: And you can hear the little wobble.
- 21:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:25SPEAKER_09: It's the tape, the cassette, the tape.
- 21:27SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 21:28SPEAKER_09: Well, it's 30 years old, man.
- 21:30SPEAKER_09: I don't know what this song is.
- 21:32SPEAKER_09: Yeah, me, man.
- 21:33SPEAKER_09: I remember it, but I don't.
- 21:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 21:35SPEAKER_09: I don't.
- 21:36SPEAKER_11: Oh, now I do.
- 21:38SPEAKER_11: I never want to lose you.
- 21:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:41SPEAKER_11: But I mean, I was I was listening to let's see.
- 21:48SPEAKER_11: This is please baby.
- 21:49SPEAKER_11: Oh wow.
- 21:50SPEAKER_11: This is Nate on Vocals.
- 21:51SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 21:54SPEAKER_05: When you went away, baby.
- 22:00SPEAKER_09: Nate was a great singer, man.
- 22:02SPEAKER_09: Still is.
- 22:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 22:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 22:04SPEAKER_11: So that's what I was doing.
- 22:05SPEAKER_11: I was listening to There's there's a tape on here.
- 22:09SPEAKER_11: That's just Nate and I.
- 22:11SPEAKER_11: In his dad's room.
- 22:14SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 22:15SPEAKER_11: Um we're doing kind of all the songs that we we did, you know, with all of us.
- 22:21SPEAKER_11: But I got this Blake Street Boys Three Strangers.
- 22:24SPEAKER_11: I don't remember what songs are on it.
- 22:26SPEAKER_09: Well, Three Strangers, obviously.
- 22:28SPEAKER_11: Well, that's on it, yes.
- 22:29SPEAKER_11: Uh The Apartment.
- 22:30SPEAKER_11: That'd be weird if it wasn't.
- 22:31SPEAKER_11: Blake Street Boys The Apartment Sessions.
- 22:33SPEAKER_08: Oh, wow.
- 22:34SPEAKER_11: Um, this is the one this is the one.
- 22:37SPEAKER_11: This is the original.
- 22:38SPEAKER_11: This has Just to Be With You, Lisa's song Like a Gypsy, Clouds, which was an instrumental that I had.
- 22:44SPEAKER_11: Clouds was pretty.
- 22:45SPEAKER_11: Broken, which was one that my wife contributed lyrics to.
- 22:48SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 22:49SPEAKER_11: Uh, she just contributed like one line.
- 22:51SPEAKER_11: But I put her name on it.
- 22:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 22:52SPEAKER_11: Because I had the hots for her.
- 22:54SPEAKER_11: Um did you?
- 22:55SPEAKER_11: I did.
- 22:56SPEAKER_11: I don't remember that.
- 22:57SPEAKER_11: What if I asked is on here.
- 22:58SPEAKER_11: Oh, tell me you don't like me.
- 23:00SPEAKER_11: Remember that?
- 23:01SPEAKER_11: Remember Tell Me You Don't Like Me?
- 23:02SPEAKER_11: We wrote that one, yeah?
- 23:04SPEAKER_11: We should uh do that at our next acoustic show.
- 23:07SPEAKER_11: Wouldn't that be funny?
- 23:07SPEAKER_11: That would be hilarious, man.
- 23:09SPEAKER_11: Uh Sweet Jenny, uh song called Father, Walk When I Dream It Wasn't Meant to Be.
- 23:15SPEAKER_11: The Woman I Love, The Girl with a Thousand Dreams, Leave My Heart Behind.
- 23:19SPEAKER_11: If you could If you could hear my heart.
- 23:23SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 23:24SPEAKER_11: Girl, it beats for you.
- 23:26SPEAKER_11: Man.
- 23:27SPEAKER_11: And you know, the one I think you were thinking of.
- 23:30SPEAKER_11: Remember when you said there was one where Tom Peters was talking and stuff like that?
- 23:34SPEAKER_09: Well, I I I think it was like called like something about Phil.
- 23:38SPEAKER_09: No.
- 23:39SPEAKER_09: It's called Confusion.
- 23:41SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 23:42SPEAKER_09: Is it just Tom just like talking?
- 23:43SPEAKER_09: I think I I haven't listened to it.
- 23:45SPEAKER_09: No.
- 23:47SPEAKER_11: But I think it I think it is.
- 23:49SPEAKER_11: Um but I wanna, you know, I have I got all these out and I listened to a couple of them, and then I got sidetracked and doing something else.
- 23:57SPEAKER_11: I wanna I want to listen to them again.
- 23:59SPEAKER_09: Well, that should be uh wall of tunes tonight.
- 24:01SPEAKER_09: What should?
- 24:02SPEAKER_09: That uh that this?
- 24:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 24:05SPEAKER_11: Um well if I uh because I can't play it through the system.
- 24:08SPEAKER_11: Well, I know, but we'll just listen to it anyway.
- 24:10SPEAKER_09: Just listen to it anyway.
- 24:12SPEAKER_11: We'll figure something out.
- 24:13SPEAKER_11: Um and yeah, I've been really down on my songwriting.
- 24:18SPEAKER_11: I wrote the last song I wrote was uh a year ago this month.
- 24:22SPEAKER_11: Uh and nobody's ever heard it.
- 24:23SPEAKER_11: Not even my wife.
- 24:25SPEAKER_11: It's a song called uh I don't even remember what it's called.
- 24:28SPEAKER_11: Uh Company Car.
- 24:30SPEAKER_11: Yeah, Company Car.
- 24:32SPEAKER_11: And I just uh you know uh I don't want to I don't want to talk about it.
- 24:40SPEAKER_09: Well life gets busy, man.
- 24:42SPEAKER_09: And of course with songwriting you gotta be inspired.
- 24:44SPEAKER_11: And if you're not not only that, it's just it hurts.
- 24:48SPEAKER_11: Like physically, it hurts.
- 24:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, yeah.
- 24:51SPEAKER_11: Um that I I haven't and that I can't, you know, because we've been busy with bands and stuff like that.
- 24:58SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's not you know and it's got you know, like I said, it's just gotta hit you just right.
- 25:03SPEAKER_09: Because it used to be like the month of September used to be like your songwriting.
- 25:07SPEAKER_11: Oh my word.
- 25:07SPEAKER_09: I remember one September you just like sit there and you'd be like, Oh, I you know, I'd you know, we'd be hanging out like on a Tuesday, and then by Thursday, I wrote 74 songs.
- 25:17SPEAKER_09: I'm like, what the frick, dude?
- 25:19SPEAKER_09: Well, yeah, but um, you know what I'm saying.
- 25:21SPEAKER_09: Like, oh, I wrote a song, and then the next time he's like, Oh, I wrote another two songs, you know, and then another couple days, oh, I wrote another song.
- 25:28SPEAKER_09: It was like friggin', you were just like, that was like your month, man.
- 25:31SPEAKER_09: September was my month, man.
- 25:32SPEAKER_11: I I had there was one month I wrote, I think, uh 14, 16 songs.
- 25:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:39SPEAKER_11: In in September.
- 25:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:40SPEAKER_11: Uh which is a lot, actually.
- 25:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 25:42SPEAKER_09: So it's like half the month, man.
- 25:43SPEAKER_11: You wrote a song.
- 25:45SPEAKER_11: So uh but the and you know, I still get that feeling in September.
- 25:49SPEAKER_11: Well, it's the changing of the seasons.
- 25:51SPEAKER_11: But but but because also in September is when school is starting.
- 25:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so you're busy now.
- 25:57SPEAKER_11: My mind is taken taken elsewhere, and it just just kills me.
- 26:01SPEAKER_11: Uh so I was going through these songs and and just listening to you know, just kind of reminiscing and um kind of getting back to that place.
- 26:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:11SPEAKER_11: Because I remember when we were in my apartment, man, we didn't care if it was gonna be like a hit song, we didn't care if it was good.
- 26:16SPEAKER_09: We just it was just great to, you know, you know, write write, you know, just get it out.
- 26:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:23SPEAKER_09: And write songs.
- 26:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:25SPEAKER_11: And it, you know, sometimes we wrote songs for other people.
- 26:28SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 26:29SPEAKER_11: Um and yeah, no, it was just I just I miss that whole I miss that whole vibe.
- 26:35SPEAKER_11: Uh so I was trying to get back to it.
- 26:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 26:38SPEAKER_11: So uh speaking of new songs and new things, um Stan Lynch uh from Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers, the original the original drummer.
- 26:46SPEAKER_11: Original drummer, who was also a great songwriter.
- 26:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 26:49SPEAKER_09: Um nobody ever talks about that.
- 26:50SPEAKER_09: He's got a new band.
- 26:51SPEAKER_09: Does he really?
- 26:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 26:53SPEAKER_11: Uh the name of the band is The Speaker Wars.
- 26:56SPEAKER_11: That's actually pretty cool.
- 26:57SPEAKER_11: Which is kind of neat.
- 26:59SPEAKER_11: Um and I thought we would listen to the first single from the album.
- 27:05SPEAKER_11: So let's see.
- 27:07SPEAKER_11: There's a video for it too.
- 27:08SPEAKER_11: It comes from the group's self-titled debut album, which will get its first label release on May 30th on Frontiers.
- 27:15SPEAKER_11: Of course.
- 27:16SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 27:16SPEAKER_11: Uh, Speaker Wars was previously released the song Never Ready to Go back in April 2022.
- 27:22SPEAKER_11: Now I never heard that one.
- 27:24SPEAKER_11: But this song is called You Make Every Lie Come True.
- 27:29SPEAKER_11: So here's new music from Stan Lynch and the Speaker Wars.
- 27:33SPEAKER_11: Let's see what this sounds like.
- 28:36SPEAKER_11: I do too.
- 28:38SPEAKER_11: It's very Tom Petty, you're not gonna get away from that because no, I mean, because that that was just that was how many years?
- 28:44SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 28:47SPEAKER_09: But I don't know, I don't know any of these other guys.
- 28:50SPEAKER_09: No, I don't either.
- 28:53SPEAKER_11: I mean, it almost sounds like Tom Petty too.
- 28:55SPEAKER_11: He does, he's a little bit.
- 28:57SPEAKER_11: This is not Stan Lynch thing, by the way.
- 28:59SPEAKER_11: Not Stan's playing drums.
- 29:02SPEAKER_09: That was one thing I always admired about Stanley, that he's one of the few modern drummers that still use the traditional traditional grip.
- 29:11SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 29:11SPEAKER_11: So but Stan Lynch has a hand in a lot of Tom Petty songs.
- 29:17SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 29:21SPEAKER_11: But this is the kind of stuff we need now.
- 29:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that kind of music, right?
- 29:26SPEAKER_11: Absolutely, man.
- 29:27SPEAKER_09: I mean this is real, yeah.
- 29:30SPEAKER_09: That's even a Tom Petty solo, man.
- 29:33SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 29:38SPEAKER_09: This is very Tom Petty.
- 29:40SPEAKER_09: Oh so Tom Petty.
- 29:41SPEAKER_09: I love it, man.
- 29:54SPEAKER_11: So good, man.
- 29:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah, if you if this is a good song.
- 29:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 29:57SPEAKER_11: If you like Tom Petty, you're gonna like this band, that's for sure.
- 30:01SPEAKER_11: The Speaker Wars.
- 30:03SPEAKER_11: Um And again, this comes out on Frontiers on May 30th.
- 30:08SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 30:09SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 30:10SPEAKER_11: This is what Stan Lynch said.
- 30:12SPEAKER_11: After my 20-year tenure with the Heartbreakers, I got a second act writing and producing, which he did.
- 30:17SPEAKER_11: He's written and produced a for a lot of people.
- 30:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 30:19SPEAKER_11: Um it was educational beyond measure to learn how to create music from the other side of the glass.
- 30:24SPEAKER_11: Around this time, I met Texas-based singer-songwriter John Christopher Davis in Nashville, who casually mentioned that we should start a band.
- 30:32SPEAKER_11: So here I am in the Speaker Wars, and it's good to have my old job back.
- 30:36SPEAKER_11: The guys in our new band know how to make great music, and I'm looking forward to another round.
- 30:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah, you know, that's a good question.
- 30:43SPEAKER_11: I wonder how old he is.
- 30:44SPEAKER_11: How old is Stanley?
- 30:46SPEAKER_09: He's gotta be sixties, seventies, easily.
- 30:49SPEAKER_11: Oh, I know he's at least sixties, but I'm curious as to whether he's uh whether he's 70 or not.
- 30:57SPEAKER_11: 69.
- 30:58SPEAKER_11: He's right there.
- 30:59SPEAKER_11: 69.
- 31:00SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 31:01SPEAKER_11: Uh that's cool.
- 31:02SPEAKER_11: Uh so I'm gonna keep my eye out for that.
- 31:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 31:05SPEAKER_09: Definitely on the radar now.
- 31:07SPEAKER_11: Speaker Wars.
- 31:07SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 31:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, baby.
- 31:09SPEAKER_11: Uh alright.
- 31:10SPEAKER_11: So I've got a list here from uh Ultimate Classic Rock, one of our favorites.
- 31:14SPEAKER_11: We're talking about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 31:17SPEAKER_11: And they're they have a list of the eight hair metal bands that belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 31:24SPEAKER_09: So I'm this is assuming that they're not already in.
- 31:27SPEAKER_11: I think they I think yeah.
- 31:29SPEAKER_11: I I think so.
- 31:30SPEAKER_11: Uh and I haven't read this yet, so we'll see.
- 31:34SPEAKER_11: Um but I want to see if we agree or disagree.
- 31:36SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 31:37SPEAKER_11: Uh so hair metal bands that belong in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
- 31:41SPEAKER_11: Hanoi Rocks.
- 31:43unknown: I don't think so.
- 31:45SPEAKER_11: Do you think so?
- 31:49SPEAKER_11: I'm on the fence.
- 31:49SPEAKER_11: Now, just because I didn't listen to Hanoi Rocks doesn't mean they're not Well, no, not not many people did because they weren't around long enough.
- 31:57SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 31:58SPEAKER_09: Uh because didn't Vince Neal kill their drummer?
- 32:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:01SPEAKER_11: Uh was it the drummer?
- 32:02SPEAKER_11: I think it was the drummer.
- 32:03SPEAKER_11: Was it it might have been the drummer.
- 32:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:04SPEAKER_11: Uh well actually maybe it says right here.
- 32:06SPEAKER_11: Um Their drummer.
- 32:08SPEAKER_11: Yep, Razzle.
- 32:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah, Razzle.
- 32:09SPEAKER_11: Was killed in a drunk driving accident involving Vince Neal.
- 32:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:12SPEAKER_11: Um but they didn't go away.
- 32:14SPEAKER_11: I think they st were still a band.
- 32:15SPEAKER_09: Well, it probably were, but I mean nobody really heard.
- 32:18SPEAKER_09: I mean, they weren't huge.
- 32:19SPEAKER_09: That's the thing.
- 32:20SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:21SPEAKER_09: But I think they were part of that whole hair metal res, you know, in you know, the beginning.
- 32:27SPEAKER_09: They were in one of the originals.
- 32:28SPEAKER_11: I never heard them on the radio.
- 32:31SPEAKER_09: I think they had some songs on the radio.
- 32:33SPEAKER_09: Maybe one, yeah.
- 32:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:35SPEAKER_11: And and I'm not saying that that's an that's the when you think of someone going into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, they do have to have a career.
- 32:45SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 32:45SPEAKER_11: You know, and not I'm sure they did.
- 32:48SPEAKER_11: Right, but you don't But nobody ever hears about them.
- 32:51SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:51SPEAKER_09: You know, no there's I mean uh when's the last time you saw somebody, you know, wearing a Hanois Rocks t-shirt?
- 32:56SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 32:56SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 32:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 32:58SPEAKER_11: Unless it was another band.
- 32:59SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 33:00SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 33:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:01SPEAKER_11: So they're they're famous among their peers.
- 33:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah, absolutely.
- 33:04SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:04SPEAKER_11: Um so I don't know.
- 33:05SPEAKER_11: I'm on the fence about this.
- 33:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I'm on I don't know.
- 33:08SPEAKER_11: Yes, maybe maybe.
- 33:10SPEAKER_11: Uh Motley Crue.
- 33:12SPEAKER_11: I thought they were already in.
- 33:13SPEAKER_11: Um let's see.
- 33:16SPEAKER_11: Even if it's something critically revived following a tumultuous 80s, they claim they've been blackballed by the rock hall, but their enduring popularity classic early albums make them one of the most obvious candidates and egregious holdouts.
- 33:30SPEAKER_11: I thought they were in, too.
- 33:31SPEAKER_09: I thought they were in, but I guess not.
- 33:32SPEAKER_11: Um yeah, they should be in.
- 33:34SPEAKER_11: Unless this is an old article.
- 33:36SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 33:36SPEAKER_11: Uh February 25th.
- 33:39SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 33:40SPEAKER_11: Um, so I guess I guess they're not in.
- 33:42SPEAKER_11: Um I would say.
- 33:45SPEAKER_11: I would say Motley.
- 33:46SPEAKER_11: I mean, if Bon Jovi is in.
- 33:47SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean they should.
- 33:48SPEAKER_09: I mean, they were they like I said, they were one of the originals.
- 33:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 33:51SPEAKER_09: They're they're OG.
- 33:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:52SPEAKER_11: So poison.
- 33:55SPEAKER_09: Again, I'm not surprised they they're not already, but yeah.
- 33:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 33:59SPEAKER_09: I think they should be.
- 34:00SPEAKER_11: I mean that uh they kind of uh I mean they made it party.
- 34:04SPEAKER_11: I don't want to say they led that whole wave.
- 34:06SPEAKER_11: They didn't, but they were a big part.
- 34:08SPEAKER_09: Well, they they took it.
- 34:09SPEAKER_09: I mean, they took that mantle and then they just went, you know, skyrocketed.
- 34:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 34:14SPEAKER_09: Because when you think of hair metal, that's the first band I think of.
- 34:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah, everybody thinks about you know Molly Cru, poison.
- 34:18SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 34:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 34:19SPEAKER_11: So I would say they d deserve to go in.
- 34:21SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 34:22SPEAKER_11: Quiet Riot.
- 34:23SPEAKER_11: Yes.
- 34:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 34:24SPEAKER_11: I think because of the history.
- 34:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 34:26SPEAKER_09: Again, one of the OGs.
- 34:27SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 34:27SPEAKER_11: Randy Rhodes, um, Rudy Sarzo was in that band.
- 34:31SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 34:31SPEAKER_11: Um, and of course the late great Kevin Dubrow.
- 34:34SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 34:34SPEAKER_11: Um and the drummer passed away, too.
- 34:36SPEAKER_09: Uh yeah, he just passed away not too long ago.
- 34:38SPEAKER_09: What was his name?
- 34:39SPEAKER_11: Uh it was uh wish we would say that.
- 34:44SPEAKER_11: Uh probably doesn't say it there.
- 34:46SPEAKER_11: No, it doesn't.
- 34:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 34:47SPEAKER_11: It doesn't.
- 34:48SPEAKER_11: It should because he was the one that kept the band going.
- 34:51SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 34:51SPEAKER_11: After Well, that's what drummers do.
- 34:54SPEAKER_11: Just saying.
- 34:55SPEAKER_11: It's true.
- 34:56SPEAKER_11: Drummers also keep the podcast going.
- 34:58SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 35:01SPEAKER_11: Rat.
- 35:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 35:04SPEAKER_11: I think so because well, also, uh Stephen Pearcy and Warren De Martini are out on tour together.
- 35:09SPEAKER_11: True, yeah.
- 35:10SPEAKER_09: Yeah, pretty cool.
- 35:11SPEAKER_09: Um they're not they're not as high on my list of of you know of the of the hair metal guys, but they're still good.
- 35:18SPEAKER_09: Higher than Hanoi Rocks.
- 35:19SPEAKER_09: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:20SPEAKER_09: I that I agree with them.
- 35:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:22SPEAKER_11: Uh Scorpions.
- 35:23SPEAKER_11: I don't consider Scorpions hair metal.
- 35:25SPEAKER_11: Sorry.
- 35:25SPEAKER_11: No.
- 35:26SPEAKER_11: But they should be in.
- 35:27SPEAKER_11: They should be.
- 35:27SPEAKER_11: I thought I'm surprised they're not in.
- 35:28SPEAKER_11: I I actually am too.
- 35:29SPEAKER_11: They have had music on you know on the radio since the early 70s.
- 35:33SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:34SPEAKER_11: Um with Uli John Roth and all those, you know.
- 35:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:38SPEAKER_11: They should have been and and of course uh uh Michael Schenker, um, instead of you know Rudolph's brother.
- 35:44SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 35:45SPEAKER_11: When he was in the band, of course they should they should be in by now.
- 35:49SPEAKER_11: Twisted Sister.
- 35:51SPEAKER_09: Uh yeah.
- 35:52SPEAKER_09: I think so.
- 35:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 35:53SPEAKER_09: Uh again, one of the pioneers of hair metal.
- 35:57SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 35:58SPEAKER_11: Before they you know, a lot of people don't realize that before their big breakthrough, which was in what, 83, 84, Stay Hungry?
- 36:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah, somewhere early 80s, yeah.
- 36:07SPEAKER_11: We're not gonna take it.
- 36:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:08SPEAKER_11: I wanna rock and stuff like that.
- 36:10SPEAKER_11: They had two or three albums before that.
- 36:12SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:13SPEAKER_11: Uh that were pretty great albums, compared, you know, comparatively.
- 36:17SPEAKER_11: So Yeah.
- 36:18SPEAKER_11: I think uh I think they deserve Whitesnake, definitely.
- 36:21SPEAKER_11: Oh, shh.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: I'm surprised.
- 36:22SPEAKER_11: Surprised they're not.
- 36:23SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:23SPEAKER_09: So yeah.
- 36:24SPEAKER_11: Because they there were so many different incarnations of Whitesnake.
- 36:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 36:27SPEAKER_09: You know, maybe that's uh you know that might be part of it, but I they should be in.
- 36:31SPEAKER_11: But Bernie um Bernie, is it Sanders?
- 36:35SPEAKER_11: No, I don't think he was.
- 36:36SPEAKER_11: No, no, no.
- 36:36SPEAKER_11: No, Bernie Marsden, who was the one of the guitar players, uh the early guitar players in Whitesnake, he just passed away.
- 36:42SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, that's right.
- 36:43SPEAKER_11: We've we talked about that.
- 36:44SPEAKER_11: She put Whitesnake in before everybody.
- 36:46SPEAKER_11: You know, Vivian Campbell was in Whitesnake?
- 36:48SPEAKER_11: John Sykes just passed away.
- 36:49SPEAKER_11: John Sykes, yep.
- 36:50SPEAKER_11: Um put put put some.
- 36:52SPEAKER_09: Skeletor is still alive, though.
- 36:53SPEAKER_09: So I mean, you're they're all right, you know.
- 36:56SPEAKER_09: I just I can't I cannot look at Tommy Alleridge and go, that's a handsome man.
- 37:00SPEAKER_09: No, he looks like freaking Skeletor.
- 37:03SPEAKER_09: I'm just waiting for, you know.
- 37:04SPEAKER_09: It's true.
- 37:05SPEAKER_09: Waiting for He-Man to show up.
- 37:07SPEAKER_11: Any other uh hairbands that you would put in that you think deserve to be in that are not on their list?
- 37:14SPEAKER_11: Again, I'm putting you on the spot.
- 37:16SPEAKER_09: Well, I'm always gonna say Dawkins.
- 37:19SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:20SPEAKER_09: I mean, they were great.
- 37:21SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 37:22SPEAKER_09: They're still pretty great.
- 37:23SPEAKER_09: But I mean I mean there they weren't any sort of trailblazers.
- 37:26SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 37:26SPEAKER_09: But I mean, they were still pretty great.
- 37:28SPEAKER_09: Um Rock and Roll Hall of Fame great.
- 37:33SPEAKER_09: Well, I mean, if you're if you're bringing Hanele Rocks up, I would put I put Dawkins in before I put Hanele Rocks up.
- 37:39SPEAKER_09: So I mean they they should be in the conversation somewhere.
- 37:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 37:42SPEAKER_11: Well, George Lynch was one of those um, you know, um guitar wizards that put a stay in the body.
- 37:48SPEAKER_09: And I'm surprised on the uh and I'm surprised that they just on that alone.
- 37:52SPEAKER_09: I mean, they should be you know considered.
- 37:55SPEAKER_09: For sure.
- 37:56SPEAKER_09: You know, and Don Dawkins, you know, I mean, the dude is all about Don Dawkins.
- 38:00SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 38:00SPEAKER_09: But I mean great vocabulary.
- 38:01SPEAKER_09: He's got a great vocal, he's got a great I mean, he's a great he's a great singer, yeah.
- 38:05SPEAKER_09: As far as I'm concerned.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:06SPEAKER_09: Jalph Pelson was always a great uh songwriter, bass player, and you know, Wild McBrown.
- 38:11SPEAKER_12: Yep.
- 38:11SPEAKER_09: Great driver.
- 38:12SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 38:13SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 38:13SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 38:14SPEAKER_09: Yeah, no, I nobody caught on to that.
- 38:17SPEAKER_10: Great drive oh, because of the because of the cart.
- 38:20SPEAKER_09: Right down, right down the road from us.
- 38:24SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:26SPEAKER_09: The man can drive drunk, I'm just saying.
- 38:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, a golf cart.
- 38:29SPEAKER_11: Drive drunk or golf cart.
- 38:30SPEAKER_09: He can play drums drunk, he can drive drunk.
- 38:33SPEAKER_11: So yeah.
- 38:34SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, I probably would agree.
- 38:36SPEAKER_11: I would probably put Dawkins in.
- 38:38SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 38:38SPEAKER_11: Yeah, for sure.
- 38:40SPEAKER_11: Uh I'm trying to think of other hairbands because I I thought they've all been named.
- 38:44SPEAKER_11: White Lion.
- 38:45SPEAKER_11: Cinderella.
- 38:45SPEAKER_11: Cinderella.
- 38:46SPEAKER_11: Oh, Cinderella should go in.
- 38:48SPEAKER_09: They should be in.
- 38:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:49SPEAKER_09: Um I think White Lion should go in.
- 38:52SPEAKER_09: I mean, they're they should be in the conversation.
- 38:55SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 38:56SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 38:56SPEAKER_09: Not saying they should go in definitely in.
- 38:58SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 38:58SPEAKER_09: But I think they should be in the conversation.
- 38:59SPEAKER_11: Now I love White Lion.
- 39:01SPEAKER_11: I love White Lions.
- 39:01SPEAKER_09: I don't know that I'd put them in.
- 39:03SPEAKER_11: Uh, but maybe bratas.
- 39:05SPEAKER_11: Vitobratas to me was uh was Vitobrata was higher on my list than George Lynch.
- 39:09SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 39:10SPEAKER_11: Um but yeah, I don't know.
- 39:13SPEAKER_11: I'm uh and I'm trying to think of other other hairbands that uh that weren't mentioned, but I can't off the top of my head, I think they were all Yeah, I mean, like your big ones.
- 39:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that's that's those are the ones.
- 39:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 39:25SPEAKER_11: But again, scorpions are not a hairband.
- 39:27SPEAKER_11: I'm sorry.
- 39:28SPEAKER_09: No, they're not a hairband.
- 39:29SPEAKER_11: Not a hairband.
- 39:30SPEAKER_11: No.
- 39:31SPEAKER_11: Nah.
- 39:31SPEAKER_11: Nah, brah.
- 39:32SPEAKER_11: Uh great white.
- 39:34SPEAKER_09: Yeah, great white.
- 39:35SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 39:36SPEAKER_09: I think I think they should.
- 39:37SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 39:38SPEAKER_09: They've had a pretty good body of work.
- 39:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 39:40SPEAKER_09: I mean, don't you know, don't count the whole I mean, the the fire was not their fault.
- 39:46SPEAKER_11: That's true.
- 39:46SPEAKER_09: So, I mean, uh they I if anybody's holding that against them, they shouldn't.
- 39:50SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, I don't think.
- 39:50SPEAKER_09: Because it wasn't it wasn't their fault.
- 39:52SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 39:52SPEAKER_09: You know, so it was just an unfortunate action.
- 39:55SPEAKER_11: Warrant.
- 39:57SPEAKER_11: Warrant deserts.
- 39:58SPEAKER_09: I think they should be in the conversation.
- 40:00SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:01SPEAKER_09: Not saying they should go right in, but I think they should be in the conversation.
- 40:04SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:04SPEAKER_11: So all good thoughts.
- 40:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 40:07SPEAKER_11: All good thoughts.
- 40:09SPEAKER_11: Um okay.
- 40:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah, is it uh let's see.
- 40:13SPEAKER_11: Oh, you know what?
- 40:13SPEAKER_11: We wanted to talk about um you're reading another book or something, aren't you?
- 40:17SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:17SPEAKER_09: Well, I'm always reading a bunch of books.
- 40:19SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 40:19SPEAKER_09: I'm still listening to the uh Carrie Ellis book about uh the Princess Bride.
- 40:26SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 40:26SPEAKER_09: Which is pretty great.
- 40:27SPEAKER_09: Uh I guess.
- 40:30SPEAKER_09: You s you know the movie.
- 40:31SPEAKER_12: Oh, yeah.
- 40:32SPEAKER_09: Do you remember the scene where they get they get out of the fire swamp and they get they get captured by uh the Count and uh you know, she she uh Buttercup basically gives him up to save his life and stuff like that.
- 40:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 40:47SPEAKER_09: And then he realizes it's the six-fingered man.
- 40:50SPEAKER_09: It's like somebody was looking, and then he hits him on the head with the sword.
- 40:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 40:53SPEAKER_09: Christopher Guest actually hit him in the head and knocked him out.
- 40:57SPEAKER_09: So when you watch the movie, his reaction, he actually got knocked the F out.
- 41:02SPEAKER_09: You're no, I'm not.
- 41:04SPEAKER_09: It's hysterical.
- 41:06SPEAKER_09: Because they because they kept doing the scene over and over.
- 41:08SPEAKER_09: Yeah, and the and the camera operator was like, Well, it looks fake.
- 41:12SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 41:12SPEAKER_09: Because he wasn't really hitting him, he was stopping short.
- 41:15SPEAKER_09: So Carrie was like, Well, really, just give me a good thump and I'll I'll I'll act it.
- 41:19SPEAKER_09: Because you know, he you know, you know, so he went, but apparently he hit him really too hard.
- 41:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, knocked him out.
- 41:25SPEAKER_09: He remembers waking up and they were stitching his head close because he opened up a cut on his head for me.
- 41:32SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 41:33SPEAKER_09: So when you watch the movie, when you see that scene where Christopher Guest knocks him out, he really actually knocked him out.
- 41:39SPEAKER_11: That makes me want to watch it tonight, actually.
- 41:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 41:43SPEAKER_11: Wow.
- 41:43SPEAKER_09: That was so great.
- 41:44SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 41:45SPEAKER_09: He's a it's it's a great book.
- 41:46SPEAKER_09: I I I highly recommend if you either listen to it or read it.
- 41:50SPEAKER_09: It's just it's a fantastic book.
- 41:52SPEAKER_09: Cool.
- 41:53SPEAKER_09: Uh but also you know, because I'm always reading like four or five books at the time, and I started reading uh Liberty DeVito's autobiography.
- 42:00SPEAKER_11: Oh, yes, the legendary drummer for Billy Joel.
- 42:02SPEAKER_11: Yes, yeah.
- 42:03SPEAKER_09: And Billy Joel actually does the forward, so I thought was because they've they've made up.
- 42:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, yeah, of course.
- 42:08SPEAKER_09: So uh but I was reading it today, as a matter of fact, and uh he was talking about how he got inspired to, you know, he wanted to, you know, be in a band and stuff like that.
- 42:19SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 42:20SPEAKER_09: And of course, being a kid of the you know, in the 60s.
- 42:24SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 42:26SPEAKER_09: None other than seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan was one of the was one of the was the thing.
- 42:32SPEAKER_11: The number of people, the number of uh music artists who count that as their uh kind of uh it's part of their origin story.
- 42:42SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 42:42SPEAKER_09: You know, they're all like, yeah, we saw I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and all that's what I wanted to do.
- 42:47SPEAKER_11: Billy Joel was one of them.
- 42:48SPEAKER_09: Bill, yeah.
- 42:49SPEAKER_09: Liberty Vito.
- 42:50SPEAKER_09: I mean, there's so I mean, there's so many people that we've l we listened to that have said that.
- 42:54SPEAKER_09: They've saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan, and they were like, oh, that's what I'm gonna do.
- 42:58SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 42:59SPEAKER_09: I'm gonna be in a band.
- 43:00SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 43:01SPEAKER_09: I was that got me thinking, we don't have that.
- 43:06SPEAKER_09: We don't have the the We don't have that cultural musical phenomena in common.
- 43:13SPEAKER_09: Phenomena.
- 43:14SPEAKER_09: Phenomena.
- 43:16SPEAKER_09: Phenomena.
- 43:17SPEAKER_09: Doot do do.
- 43:18SPEAKER_09: Anyway.
- 43:19SPEAKER_09: Uh I still I'm never gonna look at that.
- 43:22SPEAKER_09: But we don't we don't have that.
- 43:24SPEAKER_09: As as our generation, we don't have that musical phenomenal experience that we we saw and we were like, oh, that's what I want to do.
- 43:30SPEAKER_09: I want to be a musician.
- 43:32SPEAKER_09: I want to start a band with my friends, and I want to play.
- 43:34SPEAKER_11: Well, m maybe not as a collective.
- 43:37unknown: Yeah.
- 43:37SPEAKER_09: I I have one.
- 43:38SPEAKER_11: We've do we talked about it.
- 43:39SPEAKER_09: Well, we all we all have our like little, but we there's no one big thing.
- 43:43SPEAKER_09: Like everybody, you know, so many people is like, like I saw the Beatles on Ed Sullivan.
- 43:46SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 43:47SPEAKER_09: We don't have that.
- 43:48SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 43:48SPEAKER_09: Which makes me sad.
- 43:49SPEAKER_09: Sure we do.
- 43:51SPEAKER_09: We are the world.
- 43:53SPEAKER_09: That didn't make me want to be a mistake.
- 43:55SPEAKER_09: I was just like, What?
- 43:56SPEAKER_09: It's kind of a joke.
- 43:57SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I know.
- 43:58SPEAKER_08: Um I mean we had M.
- 44:00SPEAKER_09: MTV.
- 44:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 44:01SPEAKER_09: Well, you had MTV.
- 44:03SPEAKER_09: I just went to people's houses and watched MTV.
- 44:06SPEAKER_09: But that's the only thing we had was music videos.
- 44:10SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 44:10SPEAKER_09: We didn't have that one, like you know, that one performance or that one thing that came out.
- 44:16SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 44:17SPEAKER_11: Yeah, no, that's that's interesting.
- 44:19SPEAKER_11: I feel like we got robbed as a as a generation.
- 44:21SPEAKER_11: That's interesting.
- 44:22SPEAKER_11: Because you know, if you do like so when I get into an artist, I do a deep dive.
- 44:31SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 44:32SPEAKER_11: Um, so for example, well, let's just take Billy Joel, for example.
- 44:37SPEAKER_11: It probably didn't happen with Billy Joel, but just to take it as an example.
- 44:42SPEAKER_11: I when I do a deep dive into an artist, I read all about them and learn as much about them as I can.
- 44:48SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 44:49SPEAKER_11: And he may have said somewhere, Oh, I saw the Beatles on Sullivan.
- 44:52SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 44:53SPEAKER_11: So what did I do?
- 44:54SPEAKER_11: I looked for the Beatles on Sullivan.
- 44:56SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 44:57SPEAKER_11: And watched it.
- 44:58SPEAKER_11: So did the Beatles on Sullivan make me want to be a musician?
- 45:03SPEAKER_11: Probably not.
- 45:03SPEAKER_09: It's more of a secondary thing.
- 45:05SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 45:05SPEAKER_11: You know, it wasn't like indirectly, maybe.
- 45:07SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 45:07SPEAKER_11: You know, it was it was more following that rabbit hole.
- 45:11SPEAKER_09: It was the influence of your it was the influence of your influence.
- 45:14SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 45:15SPEAKER_09: You know what I mean?
- 45:16SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:16unknown: Yeah.
- 45:16SPEAKER_09: I mean, because you always you always want to listen to the people that you're fans of.
- 45:20SPEAKER_09: You want to listen to what they're fans of.
- 45:23SPEAKER_11: For perfect example, Hootie and the Blowfish.
- 45:25SPEAKER_11: That's how we discovered John Hyatt.
- 45:27SPEAKER_09: Exactly.
- 45:27SPEAKER_11: You know?
- 45:28SPEAKER_11: We were watching a Hootie and the Blowfish behind the scenes video, and they were getting ready for a show, and um um Darius was singing, Darius Rucker was singing a John Hyatt song.
- 45:40SPEAKER_11: And I was like, what is that?
- 45:41SPEAKER_11: What is that?
- 45:42SPEAKER_11: And they were talking about how, you know, John Hyatt didn't write it that way, blah, blah, blah.
- 45:46SPEAKER_11: So what did I do?
- 45:46SPEAKER_11: I l went looking for John Hyatt.
- 45:48SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I mean, they even named their first album out of the Crack Review.
- 45:51SPEAKER_09: Crack Review.
- 45:52SPEAKER_09: It was a line out of a John Hyatt song.
- 45:53SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 45:54SPEAKER_11: So, you know, we uh, you know, we went down that rabbit hole, and John Hyatt now is one of my favorite artists of all time.
- 46:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 46:02SPEAKER_11: You know, and I would say you probably think the same thing.
- 46:05SPEAKER_11: So you're right, though, there was no big cultural phenomenon like the Beatles on Sullivan for us.
- 46:14SPEAKER_11: And I think that's because we had more Although, I mean, would you would you consider the onset of MTV as a cultural phenomenon for us?
- 46:23SPEAKER_11: Oh, it definitely was.
- 46:24SPEAKER_09: But it wasn't But it wasn't like you know it was like everybody was on there.
- 46:31SPEAKER_09: That's how you saw musical Yeah.
- 46:34SPEAKER_09: That's how you found music, was l watching MTV.
- 46:37SPEAKER_09: You'd see the band on the vide in the video and you're like, oh man, that looks like fun.
- 46:41SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 46:42SPEAKER_11: You know what I mean?
- 46:43SPEAKER_11: It's also kind of a kind of a love-hate relationship like that with that, because arguably MTV ruined music.
- 46:53SPEAKER_09: You can say that.
- 46:54SPEAKER_09: But for us But it was a whole new way of the listening to music.
- 47:00SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 47:01SPEAKER_09: Now in the 60s, all you had was the radio.
- 47:04SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 47:05SPEAKER_09: I mean, TV was still I mean, even when they were on Ed Sullivan, I mean, TV was still a pr fairly new phenomenon.
- 47:11SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 47:12SPEAKER_09: You know, I mean the whole the whole thing was, you know, I mean, they'd only started regular TV program in the 50s.
- 47:19SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 47:19SPEAKER_11: Well, uh, it's funny that you say that because um the artist of the month in my second grade classroom right now is Elvis Presley.
- 47:26SPEAKER_11: Really?
- 47:26SPEAKER_11: Okay, yeah.
- 47:27SPEAKER_11: And so so that's what we do is we pick I pick a uh um every month I pick an artist and we kind of listen to their music a little bit.
- 47:34SPEAKER_11: So second graders, I mean, they know some of these Elvis songs because of their parents and because of things that they've heard and and whatnot.
- 47:40SPEAKER_11: And I I play them Elvis on Ed Sullivan.
- 47:44SPEAKER_11: Like doing uh um Houndog, yeah.
- 47:47SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 47:48SPEAKER_11: And I say, and I I before I before I introduce Elvis, I said, How many of you know Taylor Swift?
- 47:56SPEAKER_11: Well, you know who the first Taylor Swift was?
- 47:58SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, what do you mean?
- 48:01SPEAKER_11: And I said, Well, Taylor Swift is very famous, right?
- 48:05SPEAKER_11: Everybody knows who Taylor Swift is.
- 48:06SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 48:07SPEAKER_11: And uh everybody sees Taylor Swift's videos and buys her music, and she's just popular around the world, right?
- 48:16SPEAKER_12: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 48:17SPEAKER_11: Well, there was one person that was like Taylor Swift, as famous as Taylor.
- 48:22SPEAKER_11: Well, maybe not as famous as Taylor Swift because we didn't have social media and all that stuff.
- 48:26SPEAKER_11: But the first one was Ellis Presley.
- 48:28SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 48:29SPEAKER_11: You know, and they're like, you know, Elvis was the first Taylor Swift I don't understand.
- 48:33SPEAKER_11: So I had to explain, you know, TV, not everybody had a TV in their house.
- 48:39SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 48:39SPEAKER_11: You know, when Elvis was on TV and it was black and white.
- 48:43SPEAKER_11: And did we have this kind of discussion?
- 48:44SPEAKER_11: Was it you that I had the discussion with where um some of these kids think that uh like for example, Ed Sullivan, uh Elvis on Ed Sullivan was black and white.
- 48:59SPEAKER_11: That they thought life was black and white.
- 49:03SPEAKER_11: Oh, I'm not surprised.
- 49:04SPEAKER_11: Like there was no color in the world.
- 49:06SPEAKER_11: I'm not surprised because kids are But I mean, like they have no frame of reference.
- 49:11SPEAKER_09: I only have to point at the recent uh test scores of our kids in the state.
- 49:17SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 49:18SPEAKER_09: So I'm not surprised that they thought the whole world was black and white and there was no color anywhere.
- 49:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 49:23SPEAKER_09: I'm not surprised.
- 49:24SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 49:24SPEAKER_09: But no, we had we did not talk about that.
- 49:26SPEAKER_11: Yeah, well, I I can't remember who I was talking to about it, but but but but there were people that the these kids some of these kids thought that because it was the TV was black and white back then, that everything was black and white, like the trees were all black and I mean they don't know.
- 49:40SPEAKER_11: They don't know any different.
- 49:41SPEAKER_09: They don't know any different, you know.
- 49:43SPEAKER_09: When did we get color in the world?
- 49:44SPEAKER_09: You know it's like I mean, valid question.
- 49:48SPEAKER_09: I mean that's val I mean for that for that age group.
- 49:50SPEAKER_09: From that perspective, yeah.
- 49:51SPEAKER_09: I mean, yeah, absolutely.
- 49:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah, I we you know, I mean, we probably thought the same thing.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 49:55SPEAKER_09: You know, I don't remember thinking that, but I mean we probably did, you know, because Right.
- 50:00SPEAKER_11: You know, we grew up in the 70s.
- 50:01SPEAKER_11: I just think it was I just think it was interesting that, you know, because I I talked about Elvis Presley on Ed Sullivan, and then that would have been a a cultural phenomenon because and I explained to them too, I said back when Elvis Presley was on Ed Sullivan, or before he was on Ed Sullivan, um when people sang and performed, they were very straight laced and stood still and were, you know, did this, and then Elvis came on and started shaking his hips and well they had to shoot him from the waist up.
- 50:30SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 50:31SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 50:31SPEAKER_11: And they they were like, well, they didn't understand that because what are they exposed to today?
- 50:35SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 50:36SPEAKER_11: A lot worse.
- 50:36SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 50:37SPEAKER_11: A lot worse.
- 50:38SPEAKER_11: Elvis is very tame compared to what they see now.
- 50:40SPEAKER_11: Oh, absolutely.
- 50:41SPEAKER_09: But I mean the the I mean you get the I mean they don't they don't understand because there's no more of that big cultural phenomenon.
- 50:48SPEAKER_09: I mean, you know, you had Elvis on Ed Sulvan, you had the Beatles on Elvis.
- 50:53SPEAKER_12: Right.
- 50:53SPEAKER_09: The Beatles at Shea Stadium.
- 50:55SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 50:56SPEAKER_09: Elvis Elvis's concert, the Aloha concert from Hawaii.
- 50:59SPEAKER_09: That was that was the no, not the comeback.
- 51:01SPEAKER_09: Well, the comeback, but I was thinking that concert he did on satellite from Hawaii that like a billion people saw.
- 51:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, where he was sitting in a circle.
- 51:08SPEAKER_09: No, no, no, no, no.
- 51:10SPEAKER_09: From Hawaii.
- 51:11SPEAKER_09: Wasn't that in Hawaii?
- 51:12SPEAKER_11: No.
- 51:12SPEAKER_09: His comeback.
- 51:13SPEAKER_11: The comeback?
- 51:13SPEAKER_11: No, no.
- 51:14SPEAKER_11: Oh, I thought it was in Hawaii.
- 51:15SPEAKER_09: No, this was this this was when he started wearing the jumpsuit with the cape.
- 51:18SPEAKER_11: Oh, okay.
- 51:18SPEAKER_11: That was after.
- 51:19SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that was after.
- 51:20SPEAKER_09: I mean, but it was it was on satellite and it was like broadcast over the world.
- 51:24SPEAKER_09: I mean, so that was like huge.
- 51:25SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 51:25SPEAKER_09: You know?
- 51:26SPEAKER_09: Uh, you know, uh the first uh live aid.
- 51:30SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 51:30SPEAKER_09: Or yeah, you know what I mean?
- 51:32SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 51:33SPEAKER_09: There's there really isn't that anymore because it's you know it's all been done.
- 51:38SPEAKER_09: All of it's been done.
- 51:39SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 51:39SPEAKER_09: You know, even this whole big Taylor Swift eras tour.
- 51:42SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:43SPEAKER_11: Which I never understood.
- 51:44SPEAKER_09: I mean, it's huge, I get it, but it's not unheard of.
- 51:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:48SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 51:49SPEAKER_09: It it's old, it's old hat now.
- 51:51SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 51:51SPEAKER_09: For her, you know, everybody's like, oh, I can't believe she's already been done.
- 51:57SPEAKER_09: I mean, she's just falling, you know, people have already trailbraised this.
- 52:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: It's true.
- 52:04SPEAKER_11: So there isn't she's really the only one um at that level now.
- 52:12SPEAKER_11: There was a time.
- 52:13SPEAKER_09: Well, she hasn't played on all seven continents, like Metallica.
- 52:17SPEAKER_11: Well, here's what I'm saying.
- 52:18SPEAKER_11: So there was she still got that.
- 52:20SPEAKER_11: Taylor.
- 52:21SPEAKER_11: There was a time when talking about boy James.
- 52:25SPEAKER_11: I mean, Def Leppard did that.
- 52:26SPEAKER_11: They played three shows on three separate continents in one day.
- 52:29SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 52:30SPEAKER_11: You know, I mean I don't think Taylor did that.
- 52:33SPEAKER_11: I don't think Taylor did that either.
- 52:35SPEAKER_11: But not saying she couldn't.
- 52:37SPEAKER_11: She probably could.
- 52:38SPEAKER_11: Um But I mean, like, there's nobody that that I can think of that's performing at Taylor's level.
- 52:47SPEAKER_11: Um or can perform at Taylor's level.
- 52:51SPEAKER_11: Do you know what I mean?
- 52:52SPEAKER_11: What I mean by that is like she's the one only one that like the errors to her was huge because it was huge.
- 53:00SPEAKER_11: Well, she made it huge.
- 53:01SPEAKER_11: That's what I mean.
- 53:02SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it was a it was a huge production.
- 53:04SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 53:04SPEAKER_09: You know.
- 53:05SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 53:05SPEAKER_11: So there's nobody and she's got all the money to do that.
- 53:08SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, she's you know, billions of dollars now.
- 53:10SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 53:11SPEAKER_09: So No, and nobody else can do that.
- 53:14unknown: Yeah.
- 53:14SPEAKER_09: Except maybe Metallica.
- 53:15SPEAKER_11: You know, because they can't they're not making as much money because of you know they used to make money from album sales and stuff like that.
- 53:22SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's not happening anymore.
- 53:24SPEAKER_09: You gotta have these big you know, these big spectacles to make money out.
- 53:27SPEAKER_09: Right.
- 53:28SPEAKER_11: And these big spectacles cost a lot of money as well.
- 53:31SPEAKER_11: So anyway.
- 53:32SPEAKER_11: But yeah, you're right.
- 53:33SPEAKER_11: There is no big cultural shift, no big cultural.
- 53:37SPEAKER_09: I don't think you'll ever see it again.
- 53:39SPEAKER_09: I think we've just reached the saturation point where you can't really surprise anybody anymore.
- 53:45SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 53:46SPEAKER_11: Something's gotta give, something's gotta Yeah.
- 53:49SPEAKER_11: And we we we talked about that before, like there's gotta be some sort of thing that hasn't been done yet, but everything has.
- 53:56SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, it's just about.
- 53:57SPEAKER_09: We're we're we're at that point where it's just like oh you you did a you know billion-dollar tour.
- 54:06SPEAKER_11: Time for a reset.
- 54:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah, it's time to go back, you know.
- 54:09SPEAKER_11: Time for a reset of sorts.
- 54:11SPEAKER_11: And the Star City Syndicate is just the band to do it.
- 54:14SPEAKER_09: We will begin the revolution.
- 54:17SPEAKER_09: Will be televised and with a horn section.
- 54:21SPEAKER_11: With the greatest horn section of the planet.
- 54:23SPEAKER_11: That's right.
- 54:23SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 54:24SPEAKER_11: Uh speaking of Metallica, were we speaking of Metallica?
- 54:27SPEAKER_11: We were.
- 54:27SPEAKER_11: I think we were.
- 54:28SPEAKER_11: I think we were.
- 54:29SPEAKER_09: Ah It's that time of day.
- 54:34SPEAKER_09: It's that time of the podcast.
- 54:37SPEAKER_09: Yeah, you hear that?
- 54:38SPEAKER_09: You hear that?
- 54:39SPEAKER_09: It's coming.
- 54:40SPEAKER_09: Oh, it's almost here.
- 54:56SPEAKER_11: Alright, it is time for mixtape.
- 54:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, baby.
- 54:59SPEAKER_11: And so we're gonna we do past present and past present.
- 55:01SPEAKER_11: And if you draw, I gotta I gotta grab the game.
- 55:04SPEAKER_13: There we go.
- 55:04SPEAKER_11: And um so the past.
- 55:08SPEAKER_11: The past was the montage song.
- 55:10SPEAKER_11: The montage, which we all chose the same song.
- 55:13SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 55:14SPEAKER_09: Which she did she had an interesting take on it.
- 55:16SPEAKER_11: I thought about that song, to be honest with you.
- 55:18SPEAKER_09: But I I I she had an interesting take on it this week.
- 55:21SPEAKER_09: I I was like, oh, that's interesting.
- 55:24SPEAKER_09: I didn't even thought of that.
- 55:26SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 55:27SPEAKER_09: So here we go.
- 55:30SPEAKER_09: This is how she started out.
- 55:33SPEAKER_09: Y'all might disown me as judge after this week.
- 55:36SPEAKER_09: Uh-oh.
- 55:36SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 55:37SPEAKER_09: Uh-oh.
- 55:38SPEAKER_09: She didn't like that song?
- 55:39SPEAKER_09: Well, this is what she said.
- 55:41SPEAKER_09: Although everyone initially picked In My Life by the Beatles, and by default, it should have won.
- 55:46SPEAKER_09: But I couldn't.
- 55:47SPEAKER_09: I tried.
- 55:48SPEAKER_09: In my opinion, it's more of a love song that would fit on a montage of a couple's life together at an anniversary celebration.
- 55:55SPEAKER_09: It's truly a beautiful song, though, and a wonderful story of old times and new love.
- 56:00SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 56:01SPEAKER_09: Yeah, that was an interesting tank.
- 56:03SPEAKER_09: I went, wow, I never even thought of that.
- 56:06SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 56:06SPEAKER_09: So I loved working them angels.
- 56:10SPEAKER_09: It's a wonderful song to use for a montage of someone that lives outs lives life on the wild side.
- 56:16SPEAKER_09: But I really, really loved Common Crossing along the horizon.
- 56:20SPEAKER_09: The end of the course, people like us, they never fade away, is beautiful, and I think perfect for the montage of someone's life.
- 56:27SPEAKER_09: They were all really great songs, though, and a hard pick this week.
- 56:30SPEAKER_11: It was a hard pick.
- 56:31SPEAKER_11: It was a hard pick, yeah.
- 56:33SPEAKER_11: Again, we all pick the same song.
- 56:34SPEAKER_11: Um, Along the Horizon, I picked like after, like, like like that night.
- 56:39SPEAKER_09: Then she went on and said, I really love each song, and each song is perfect for different montages.
- 56:43SPEAKER_09: I love playing this game.
- 56:45SPEAKER_09: I thought so.
- 56:45SPEAKER_09: That's cool.
- 56:47SPEAKER_09: That's cool.
- 56:47SPEAKER_09: She said, she said, I would have picked Green Day, Green Day Goodridens.
- 56:51SPEAKER_09: Oh, there you go.
- 56:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 56:52SPEAKER_09: So you've had the time of your life.
- 56:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, exactly.
- 56:55SPEAKER_09: That's what she said.
- 56:56SPEAKER_09: She said, uh, I've always loved that song, and it is right.
- 56:59SPEAKER_09: In the end, all that matters that you had the time of your life.
- 57:02SPEAKER_09: Yep.
- 57:02SPEAKER_09: So good point.
- 57:03SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 57:04SPEAKER_09: So that's that's why she's our awesome judge.
- 57:06SPEAKER_09: Awesome.
- 57:07SPEAKER_11: So all right, so that's passed.
- 57:09SPEAKER_09: That's passed.
- 57:09SPEAKER_09: Now, for present.
- 57:11SPEAKER_09: Present.
- 57:12SPEAKER_09: This is the uh I gotta make sure I what did I do?
- 57:18SPEAKER_09: I lost the question.
- 57:20SPEAKER_09: No.
- 57:20SPEAKER_09: I did! What did I do?
- 57:23SPEAKER_09: You big dummy dummy head?
- 57:25SPEAKER_09: Is this that?
- 57:26SPEAKER_09: Oh, no.
- 57:28SPEAKER_09: You said something about a sitcom.
- 57:30SPEAKER_09: Well, I remember the question.
- 57:32SPEAKER_09: I just usually I I put it top of the pile, but I did not do that.
- 57:36SPEAKER_09: I don't know what I did with it.
- 57:37SPEAKER_09: Did you take a picture of it and send it to No, that's why I had that whole thing with Cousin Larry that I forgot to send it to the So I but anyway, it was like if they made your life into a sitcom, what would your theme song be?
- 57:49SPEAKER_12: Okay.
- 57:50SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 57:50SPEAKER_12: So did Larry get it.
- 57:51SPEAKER_09: I did I did get back from hear back from Cousin Larry.
- 57:54SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 57:54SPEAKER_09: He he is a trooper.
- 57:57SPEAKER_09: Uh let's see.
- 58:03SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 58:04SPEAKER_09: Uh so this is what he said.
- 58:06SPEAKER_09: I go back to the theme from Benny Hill, Yakity Sack.
- 58:10SPEAKER_09: Honorable mention to the TV Batman.
- 58:12SPEAKER_09: So is he going with Yakity Sack?
- 58:13SPEAKER_09: He's going with Yakity Sack.
- 58:15SPEAKER_11: Uh, so let's do let's let's do a little bit of that.
- 58:29SPEAKER_09: It's just a fun song.
- 58:30SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 58:30SPEAKER_09: It really is a fun song.
- 58:31SPEAKER_09: It is.
- 58:37SPEAKER_11: So this is the the cousin Larry's Did come.
- 58:41SPEAKER_09: Oh, it fits perfectly.
- 58:42SPEAKER_09: It does.
- 58:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it does.
- 58:44SPEAKER_09: Fits perfectly, man.
- 58:45SPEAKER_11: Alright, what's yours?
- 58:46SPEAKER_09: Well, I went I went a similar route.
- 58:49SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 58:50SPEAKER_09: Mine would be weird owl.
- 58:53SPEAKER_09: Dare to be stupid.
- 59:02SPEAKER_09: Alright, let's got that 80s vibe to it.
- 59:08SPEAKER_12: Yeah.
- 59:09SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah Oh, this is perfect.
- 59:19SPEAKER_09: This is a this is an eighties Titcom right here.
- 1:00:02SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_11: I think this should be the theme song to the O'Brien and Doug Titcom.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_11: Oh, heck yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:07SPEAKER_11: Heck yeah, man.
- 1:00:08SPEAKER_11: And you know, I I don't I don't remember.
- 1:00:13SPEAKER_11: I don't remember who posted it.
- 1:00:16SPEAKER_11: It was on Facebook.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_11: Stupid! Enough with this uh hip hop Super Bowl halftime show.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_11: Weird owl.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_09: I posted that.
- 1:00:28SPEAKER_09: You did you posted that?
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_09: You are so right.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_09: I say this I think the title of this is the halftime show we all want to see, and it was Weird Owl.
- 1:00:35SPEAKER_09: Absolutely.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_09: I mean, because he can do it all.
- 1:00:39SPEAKER_09: I don't care what genre of music it is, he can do it.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_11: So, that's no question.
- 1:00:44SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that would be an awesome Super Bowl halftime show.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_11: Alright, ready for mine?
- 1:00:49SPEAKER_11: Absolutely.
- 1:00:50SPEAKER_11: Okay, um and I'm curious to what you win with it.
- 1:01:06SPEAKER_10: Yeah.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_09: Great choice, man.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_09: Great choice.
- 1:02:08SPEAKER_11: So we have Yakity Stacks for Cousin Larry.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_11: Yep.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_11: We have Dare to Be Stupid, Weird Out of Yankovic.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 1:02:16SPEAKER_11: For Doug.
- 1:02:17SPEAKER_11: And for me, it's I Wanna Be Sedated by the Ramones.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_13: Yeah!
- 1:02:21SPEAKER_11: Um, I think great choices.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_11: I think so too.
- 1:02:26SPEAKER_09: Uh I think I think our judge has her has her work cut out for him this week.
- 1:02:30SPEAKER_11: It's funny.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_11: Have we have we ever had a mixtape where we say, I think that's a stupid choice.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_09: We haven't.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_09: I don't think not yet.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_09: No.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_09: I think it's coming.
- 1:02:40SPEAKER_09: I mean, we also didn't think we we would all choose the same song either.
- 1:02:43SPEAKER_09: This is true.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_09: So anything was possible.
- 1:02:45SPEAKER_09: I thought that was inevitable.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_09: And we'd all choose the same song.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_09: All three of us?
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_09: Well, four.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_09: That's I mean, the two of us, yes.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:02:52SPEAKER_09: Or, you know, me or me and Larry, or you and Larry, or me and you know, I could see that.
- 1:02:58SPEAKER_09: All three of us.
- 1:02:59SPEAKER_11: No, I never saw that.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_11: Yeah, good point.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_11: So two of us, definitely.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:03:04SPEAKER_11: But yeah, all three of us, that's that's probably true.
- 1:03:06SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_11: So there you go.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_11: So what is the future?
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_11: Oh, I haven't even chosen yet.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_11: Mixtape question.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_09: I haven't chosen yet.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_09: Let me look into the stack of cards.
- 1:03:16SPEAKER_09: Interpretive dance.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_09: No, we can't do that one.
- 1:03:19SPEAKER_09: That'd be funny, though.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_09: I think we've done that one before.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_09: Let's see what the interesting one.
- 1:03:35SPEAKER_09: Track one of the best road trip mixtape ever created.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_09: Track one, yes.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_11: That isn't that is intriguing.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_11: One pops into my head already.
- 1:03:50SPEAKER_09: There we go, see?
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_09: I'm sending this to Cousin Larry so I don't forget.
- 1:03:56SPEAKER_11: Cause I'm stupid! But I also have another one that I might pick that's kind of obscure.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_08: Oh.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_11: Uh I think.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_08: Okay, I got it.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_11: Because it doesn't yeah.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_11: This is that's subjective too, right?
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_11: The best, I mean, the best road trip.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_11: No, they're all subjective.
- 1:04:12SPEAKER_11: That's true.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_09: That's the greatest thing about this, is it's all subjective.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_09: There's no one correct answer.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_11: Because I have one song that I would put on there that you don't even know.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_11: I don't think anybody knows.
- 1:04:24SPEAKER_11: But to me, it would be a great song for a road trip.
- 1:04:26SPEAKER_11: So maybe I'll pick that one just to kind of mix it up a little bit.
- 1:04:29SPEAKER_11: So yeah.
- 1:04:30SPEAKER_11: That's the one that popped into my head second.
- 1:04:33SPEAKER_11: The first one that popped into my head, I'm not gonna tell you what it is, but I betcha Cousin Larry picks it.
- 1:04:39SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:04:40SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna say it right now, I bet you Cousin Larry picks it.
- 1:04:44SPEAKER_08: I don't think that.
- 1:04:45SPEAKER_09: I don't think you will, but I think cousin Larry will.
- 1:04:47SPEAKER_09: I never know what I'm gonna choose.
- 1:04:48SPEAKER_09: I never know what I'm gonna choose.
- 1:04:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:04:50SPEAKER_09: Because I don't know anything.
- 1:04:52SPEAKER_09: I never know what I'm doing.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_09: That's okay.
- 1:04:55SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:04:56SPEAKER_11: I just live life on the edge.
- 1:04:57SPEAKER_11: So that is mixtape and edge of insanity.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_11: We're gonna take a break, then we're gonna are we gonna read from the Cliffs of Insanity! We're gonna read from the Cliffs of Insanity?
- 1:05:08SPEAKER_11: No, I was I was Princess Brighting it.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_11: I got it.
- 1:05:11SPEAKER_09: I just verbed it.
- 1:05:14SPEAKER_11: So we're gonna read from the Beatles book?
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_09: Inconceivable!
- 1:05:20SPEAKER_11: Are we reading from the Beatles' book?
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah, I can't- Oh, there it is.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's right there.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_09: It's in a box.
- 1:05:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:05:26SPEAKER_11: Okay, so we're gonna do that next.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_11: Uh we'll take a break, we'll come back, and we'll climb the wall of tunes.
- 1:05:30SPEAKER_11: But you had an idea for the wall of tunes, right?
- 1:05:32SPEAKER_11: I did.
- 1:05:33SPEAKER_11: So we're gonna This is the book.
- 1:05:35SPEAKER_09: I'm making noise with the book.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_11: Yes, you are.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_11: Sorry.
- 1:05:39SPEAKER_11: That's okay.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_11: I'm weird.
- 1:05:41SPEAKER_11: So we're gonna we're gonna try and do what Doug wanted to do for the uh Wall of Tunes.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_10: Yeah, man.
- 1:05:47SPEAKER_11: That's next.

- 1:07:21SPEAKER_09: Okay.
- 1:07:22SPEAKER_09: Um Mean Mr.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_09: Mustard.
- 1:07:24SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_09: Song not many people talk about.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_09: That's like a minute long, isn't it?
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's very short.
- 1:07:28SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_09: Uh and the uh description is even shorter.
- 1:07:32SPEAKER_09: John said that Mean Mr.
- 1:07:34SPEAKER_09: Mustard was inspired by a newspaper story about a miser who concealed his cash whenever he could in order to prevent people from forcing him to spend it.
- 1:07:44SPEAKER_09: The line about stuffing a ten bob note, in parentheses, a British ten-shilling note, up his nose, John admitted was his own invention, claiming it had been absolutely nothing to do with snorting cocaine.
- 1:08:01SPEAKER_12: Is that it?
- 1:08:02SPEAKER_09: Nope.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_09: Tony Bramwell believes another colorful London character also provided John with inspiration for this song.
- 1:08:09SPEAKER_09: Quote, there was an old bag lady who used to hang around the Knights Bridge end of Hyde Park close to the Army Berks, he remembers.
- 1:08:17SPEAKER_09: She had all her possessions in plastic bags and slept in the park.
- 1:08:20SPEAKER_09: I'm sure that she had something to do with the song, unquote.
- 1:08:24SPEAKER_09: Written in India, Mean Mr.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_09: Mustard was recorded with Sun King in one continuous piece.
- 1:08:30SPEAKER_09: Oh, I didn't know that.
- 1:08:31SPEAKER_09: In the original version, Mr.
- 1:08:33SPEAKER_09: Mustard had a sister called Shirley, but John changed it to Pam when he realized that it could more easily segue into polythene Pam.
- 1:08:42SPEAKER_09: So interesting.
- 1:08:57SPEAKER_11: That's the end of it right there.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_11: Very short song.
- 1:08:58SPEAKER_11: Okay, so before we before we do this little experiment with these cassette tapes, um I gotta share something with you.
- 1:09:05SPEAKER_11: So I I had uh I was in c in my second grade class, one second or first grade class uh yesterday.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_11: And my principal comes in with a box.
- 1:09:17SPEAKER_11: And he says the box on my desk.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_11: And I said, What what is that?
- 1:09:21SPEAKER_11: He's like, I don't know.
- 1:09:27SPEAKER_11: From from uh my neighbor.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_11: I said to give this to you.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_11: I said, Okay.
- 1:09:34SPEAKER_11: I guess I'll open it at last time to see what it is.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_11: So here's what I did.
- 1:10:01SPEAKER_11: I have some folk also.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_11: I will get to the final later.
- 1:10:09SPEAKER_11: Stephen Vance.
- 1:10:15SPEAKER_11: Stephen Vance was my biology teacher when I was in high school.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_11: Right, yeah, and one of the cool coolest things one of my coolest memories from high school is going into biology class and getting Mr.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_11: Vance to be talking about music.
- 1:10:33SPEAKER_11: Because there goes the first 20 minutes of class.
- 1:10:39SPEAKER_11: And he will he knows that.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_11: He knows that.
- 1:10:41SPEAKER_11: Uh so let me show you what he gave me.
- 1:10:43SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_11: And I I I texted him on Facebook.
- 1:10:46SPEAKER_11: I said, wow, this is amazing.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_11: Thank you so much.
- 1:10:49SPEAKER_11: Can I give you something for this?
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_11: He's like, no, no, no.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_11: And I have a lot more where that came from.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 1:10:54SPEAKER_11: He says, I want to give them to somebody who appreciates them.
- 1:10:57SPEAKER_11: And I have all kinds of vinyls, too.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_11: And I'm like, well, I will appreciate them.
- 1:11:02SPEAKER_11: So here's what I got.
- 1:11:03SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:11:06SPEAKER_11: Four times anthology.
- 1:11:08SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_11: Double CD century.
- 1:11:20SPEAKER_11: Standing in the shadows of the modern shadows of modern DVDs.
- 1:11:37SPEAKER_09: I think you're right.
- 1:11:45SPEAKER_11: The ultimate collection of the temptation.
- 1:11:50SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:11:51SPEAKER_11: Carlos Santana, loser Salvador.
- 1:11:54SPEAKER_11: Santana's greatest.
- 1:11:57SPEAKER_11: Santana supernatural.
- 1:11:59SPEAKER_11: Now I can really learn how to play some of the Drifters collection.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_11: Oh wow.
- 1:12:04SPEAKER_11: Right?
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_11: Marvin Gay.

- 1:13:28SPEAKER_11: I was like, my word, man.
- 1:13:31SPEAKER_11: This is amazing.
- 1:13:33SPEAKER_11: That is awesome, man.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_11: So uh you have believe it or not, you have added to the wall of tunes.
- 1:13:38SPEAKER_12: Yes.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_11: Um so I was I was pretty excited about that.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_11: And he says he's got uh what did he say?
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_11: He's he says he's got uh blues, jazz, and folk.
- 1:13:48SPEAKER_11: Nice.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_11: Can you imagine like folk music from the 60s or something?
- 1:13:51SPEAKER_11: Oh, that'd be amazing, man.
- 1:13:52SPEAKER_11: Oh, and blues stuff?
- 1:13:53SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_11: Jazz?
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_11: I love it.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_09: Oh, yeah.
- 1:13:56SPEAKER_09: I'd be interested to see what he's gonna do.
- 1:13:58SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so I'm excited.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_11: Um really excited.
- 1:14:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, I told him that too.
- 1:14:03SPEAKER_11: I was like, nah, I'm excited.
- 1:14:05SPEAKER_11: So um thank you, Steve Vance.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_11: Yes, that's a good thing.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_11: For awesome.
- 1:14:08SPEAKER_11: Awesome.
- 1:14:09SPEAKER_11: Great word, uh, great phrase, kingly gift.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_11: It is a kingly gift.
- 1:14:12SPEAKER_11: That was uh that was really cool.
- 1:14:14SPEAKER_11: Um okay, so I think I have this queued up to a song.
- 1:14:19SPEAKER_11: Um and uh your idea was just to kind of go through these, but we don't have time to go through them.
- 1:14:26SPEAKER_11: But here's here's what I would like to do because I have it queued up to this particular song.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_11: Um we re-recorded it.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_11: So let me give you a a snippet of a version that you and I did.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_11: Okay.
- 1:14:38SPEAKER_11: Okay, this is this is a song called Walk.
- 1:14:41SPEAKER_11: And this is I believe Nate wrote the words to this song.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_09: Yeah, this is an innate poem.
- 1:14:45SPEAKER_11: This is innate poem, Nathan Brewer, um, that I put to music.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_11: And so this is the version that you I'll just play a piece of the one that you and I did.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_11: Right.
- 1:14:56SPEAKER_11: So it's not as good as the original.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_11: This is not on cassette.
- 1:15:05SPEAKER_11: This is on city.
- 1:15:07SPEAKER_16: Yeah.
- 1:15:08SPEAKER_16: Love flights free.
- 1:15:11SPEAKER_16: You're singing, actually.
- 1:15:12SPEAKER_16: With unbroken wing.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_16: Every time that I sing with Christ Like a blind man always in the dark.
- 1:15:46SPEAKER_16: We'll last forever.
- 1:15:51SPEAKER_16: I know better.
- 1:15:57SPEAKER_16: I wanna run video.
- 1:16:00SPEAKER_11: I guess I shouldn't say it's not better than the original.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_11: I guess it's right up there.
- 1:16:04SPEAKER_09: It's it's one of my favorite ones that we don't do.
- 1:16:07SPEAKER_09: Yeah, please.
- 1:16:08SPEAKER_09: We should do this more often.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_09: We should.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_09: It's a great song, I think.
- 1:16:12SPEAKER_09: Okay, so.
- 1:16:13SPEAKER_16: I just wanna run.
- 1:16:15SPEAKER_11: I never thought maybe I could unplug this and plug it into the headphone jack of that.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_11: I wonder, let's just we're just kind of experimenting.
- 1:16:23SPEAKER_09: Hey kids, it's experiment time here at O'Brien and Doug.
- 1:16:26SPEAKER_11: Will it reach?
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_09: I don't know.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_11: I don't think it will reach.
- 1:16:29SPEAKER_11: Hold on a second here.
- 1:16:31SPEAKER_11: Let's see.
- 1:16:32SPEAKER_11: Let's pull this a little bit this way.
- 1:16:34SPEAKER_09: Oh, that's connected to the uh I know.
- 1:16:37SPEAKER_11: I'm I'm I'm I'm going slow.
- 1:16:40SPEAKER_09: Okay, you y'all can't see this, but stuff is about to fall over.
- 1:16:44SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_12: This is gonna be amazing.
- 1:16:47SPEAKER_12: Let me move this here.
- 1:16:50SPEAKER_12: I'm gonna move this there.
- 1:16:54SPEAKER_11: Just a little bit more.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_09: This is what we do here.
- 1:17:11SPEAKER_09: I I just heard like I hear stuff.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_11: I still need I still need a little bit more.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_09: Alright.
- 1:17:25SPEAKER_09: Oh yeah.
- 1:17:27SPEAKER_11: I can hear the radio.
- 1:17:28SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's what I was like.
- 1:17:29SPEAKER_11: So this is an old, old stereo.
- 1:17:31SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah.
- 1:17:32SPEAKER_11: And I'm playing this off in the and the uh I know that the um cassette, I can't even the cassette deck doesn't even rewind or fast forward.
- 1:17:39SPEAKER_11: That's funny.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_11: So I had to kind of set it up.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_11: So you what you're gonna hear now is um the original version of this song with Nathan Brewer on vocals, lead vocals.
- 1:17:52SPEAKER_11: Um and we recorded on a four-track on a cassette, so there's gonna be a lot of noise.
- 1:17:59SPEAKER_03: Oh, it says free.
- 1:18:09SPEAKER_03: Yep.
- 1:18:11SPEAKER_03: Every time that I hear she cries.
- 1:18:29SPEAKER_03: Like a blind always in the dark.
- 1:18:56SPEAKER_03: There's a low voice there, say you just wanna walk.
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_09: That is my very first drum set, which was not a drum set.
- 1:19:28SPEAKER_09: It's a shaker egg.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_09: And the the back and the body of an acoustic guitar that we broke the neck off of.
- 1:19:37SPEAKER_11: We put all kinds of stickers on it.
- 1:19:38SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:19:39SPEAKER_09: I still have it.
- 1:19:40SPEAKER_11: Do you?
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:19:41SPEAKER_09: Oh, I'd like to see that.
- 1:19:42SPEAKER_09: I'll pull it out someday.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that would be fun.
- 1:19:51SPEAKER_03: She makes it easy to walk miles when she looks at me and smiles.
- 1:20:09SPEAKER_03: I don't know how long this love will last.
- 1:20:14SPEAKER_03: Just walk with me so less.
- 1:20:22SPEAKER_03: I want to walk down this road.
- 1:20:33SPEAKER_03: Where is I don't know.
- 1:20:40SPEAKER_03: I just walk away.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_03: This road alive with you.
- 1:20:53SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:20:54SPEAKER_11: I don't want to play the whole thing.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_11: Let's here's what I want to do now.
- 1:20:58SPEAKER_11: I'm just gonna put another one of these cassettes in.
- 1:21:00SPEAKER_09: I was gonna say, let's fast forward.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_09: Oh, wait.
- 1:21:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah, we can't.
- 1:21:04SPEAKER_11: I'm gonna put another one of these in and just let it play whatever song it's on.
- 1:21:10SPEAKER_11: Alright.
- 1:21:11SPEAKER_11: Um even if we if we remember the songs, what they're what they're called.
- 1:21:16SPEAKER_11: So this one is from Three Strangers.
- 1:21:18SPEAKER_11: Uh I don't know what song it's on.
- 1:21:20SPEAKER_11: This is side one.
- 1:21:31SPEAKER_03: Is this spending time?
- 1:21:32SPEAKER_03: Spending time, yes.
- 1:21:43SPEAKER_11: This could be a fun song to do too.
- 1:21:45SPEAKER_03: This could be a good one.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_09: Nice.
- 1:23:16SPEAKER_09: I always like the line of the uh where the moon hangs low.
- 1:23:20SPEAKER_11: Yeah, head out to where the moon hangs low.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_11: Maybe steal himself a picture.
- 1:23:24SPEAKER_11: I always like that line.
- 1:23:25SPEAKER_09: Yeah.
- 1:23:25SPEAKER_09: That was always a cool one.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_11: Uh let's see.
- 1:23:27SPEAKER_11: We just did this one.
- 1:23:28SPEAKER_11: So let me do this one.
- 1:23:30SPEAKER_11: Do I want to do this one?
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_11: That's the cool one.
- 1:23:32SPEAKER_11: Which one's that one?
- 1:23:34SPEAKER_11: Some kind of ride?
- 1:23:36SPEAKER_11: Yeah, man.
- 1:23:38SPEAKER_10: We gotta see what's on that one.
- 1:23:39SPEAKER_10: Whatever is whatever it's whatever happens, happens.
- 1:23:41SPEAKER_11: Whatever it's queued up to is what we're gonna do.
- 1:23:45SPEAKER_03: Then I stop wonder.
- 1:23:48SPEAKER_11: Is this what we were just listening to before?
- 1:23:49SPEAKER_11: Is this Never Wanna Lose You?
- 1:23:52SPEAKER_11: I think it is.
- 1:23:53SPEAKER_11: Hold on.
- 1:23:54SPEAKER_11: Yep, brother.
- 1:23:56SPEAKER_11: Let me turn it over.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_11: Just turn over the cassette and see what's what's on the other side.
- 1:24:00SPEAKER_11: Oh, yeah, it was pleased, baby.
- 1:24:02SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:24:03SPEAKER_11: Okay, so so let's not do this one.
- 1:24:05SPEAKER_11: Let's not do it.
- 1:24:06SPEAKER_11: Let's not do it this one.
- 1:24:07SPEAKER_11: Let's not do this one.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_11: So I have uh this says copyright 1995.
- 1:24:13SPEAKER_11: Wow, 30 years.
- 1:24:14SPEAKER_11: Piece of cake music.
- 1:24:15SPEAKER_11: This says this says Adonis.
- 1:24:19SPEAKER_11: This was like, this must have been.
- 1:24:21SPEAKER_11: I wonder if this is the one with just Nate and I.
- 1:24:22SPEAKER_11: I don't think so.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_06: Hey my girlfriend, just because it's rocking chair.
- 1:24:28SPEAKER_09: Spatchel's anthem.
- 1:24:29SPEAKER_06: I better preheat the microwave on my home.
- 1:24:33SPEAKER_09: Yeah, it's just you and Nate.
- 1:24:36SPEAKER_17: I'm living alone.
- 1:24:43SPEAKER_17: Something that should be up scratching.
- 1:24:48SPEAKER_17: Oh, I really don't give a shit.
- 1:24:51SPEAKER_09: That's not the while we were we were young and crazy back then.
- 1:25:00SPEAKER_01: I don't have a I don't have a Okay, this is Leave My Heart Behind Rick Brian Mosier, arranged by Brian Mosier and Nathan Brewer.
- 1:25:09SPEAKER_01: Uh Copyright 95, feast cake music.

- 1:25:13SPEAKER_11: It must be sped up.
- 1:25:15SPEAKER_10: Cause his voice is really high.
- 1:25:16SPEAKER_10: That's me.
- 1:25:17SPEAKER_10: Is that you?
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_10: That was me.
- 1:25:18SPEAKER_10: I thought that was Nate.
- 1:25:19SPEAKER_10: Nope.
- 1:25:23SPEAKER_03: I continue every single feeling.
- 1:25:27SPEAKER_11: Yeah, that's sped up.
- 1:25:29SPEAKER_11: It's really fast.
- 1:25:30SPEAKER_03: Doing just a right.
- 1:25:33SPEAKER_03: That would only talk you into me.
- 1:25:36SPEAKER_11: There's not even any harmony on that.
- 1:25:38SPEAKER_03: I don't know I could be without you.
- 1:25:41SPEAKER_03: Even for the night.
- 1:25:43SPEAKER_03: Girl, I spend every minute.
- 1:25:45SPEAKER_03: There it is.
- 1:25:47SPEAKER_03: What is this?
- 1:25:49SPEAKER_03: Everything I try seems I'm pushing you away.
- 1:25:55SPEAKER_11: I know, right?
- 1:25:56SPEAKER_11: So this one says eight songs, this side only.
- 1:26:01SPEAKER_11: 1995.
- 1:26:03SPEAKER_11: But this is a this is a tape I sent to my wife before she was my wife.
- 1:26:08SPEAKER_11: Attention, Teresa Underwood from J U J.
- 1:26:11SPEAKER_11: Just Us Jamming.
- 1:26:13SPEAKER_11: Oh yeah.
- 1:26:14SPEAKER_11: It says not in order.
- 1:26:22SPEAKER_11: This is I do.
- 1:26:23SPEAKER_11: This is I do, man.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_11: This is another one that Nate wrote.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_03: I put some music.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_03: And that's him singing.
- 1:26:32SPEAKER_11: I haven't heard this forever.
- 1:26:39SPEAKER_11: This is sped up too.
- 1:26:40SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:26:54SPEAKER_03: She loves me and all I did.
- 1:27:03SPEAKER_03: She said, I love you.
- 1:27:08SPEAKER_03: I can't say such a little.
- 1:27:35SPEAKER_09: Wow.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_09: Bring back some memories, man.
- 1:27:39SPEAKER_11: Oh man.
- 1:27:40SPEAKER_11: One more.
- 1:27:42SPEAKER_11: I don't know what this is.
- 1:27:44SPEAKER_11: Common Crossing 98.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_11: Master.
- 1:27:46SPEAKER_09: Oh.
- 1:27:47SPEAKER_09: Is that psychological services?
- 1:27:48SPEAKER_09: Could be psychological services.
- 1:27:54SPEAKER_09: Yeah, this is uh Along the Horizon.
- 1:27:57SPEAKER_09: It is Along the Horizon.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_09: The original.
- 1:27:58SPEAKER_09: Yep, the original one.
- 1:28:02SPEAKER_11: So here, here you go to our illustrious judge.
- 1:28:05SPEAKER_11: This was the original version of this song.
- 1:28:14SPEAKER_04: If you want to be a part, then you write me blind.
- 1:28:35SPEAKER_04: All I used to do.
- 1:28:51SPEAKER_11: It's funny, after I picked this song last time, I got a message from cousin Larry.
- 1:28:56SPEAKER_11: He's a great pick.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_11: I love this song.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_11: Funny thing is it's I almost like this version better than the one that we have on the album.
- 1:29:08SPEAKER_11: Yeah.
- 1:29:09SPEAKER_11: The uh you know the This is basically the demo.
- 1:29:11SPEAKER_11: Yeah, basically.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_11: I don't know why.
- 1:29:14SPEAKER_11: I don't know what it is.
- 1:29:15SPEAKER_11: Just couldn't capture that magic again.
- 1:29:18SPEAKER_11: It's still good.
- 1:29:24SPEAKER_04: Ripple Hunter.
- 1:29:28SPEAKER_04: Do it my work.
- 1:29:34SPEAKER_04: I think about all I used to do.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_11: Guitar solo was relatively the same.
- 1:29:49SPEAKER_09: Yeah, but yeah.
- 1:29:52SPEAKER_09: Well the song really didn't change from this version to the version.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_09: It's true.
- 1:29:57SPEAKER_09: For some reason, we stayed pretty true to it.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_09: Version a little better though.
- 1:30:00SPEAKER_09: I don't know why.
- 1:30:16SPEAKER_11: Did we?
- 1:30:21SPEAKER_11: Yeah, okay.
- 1:30:25SPEAKER_11: Yeah, so anyway, those are those are the cassettes that I found.
- 1:30:28SPEAKER_09: That's awesome, man.
- 1:30:29unknown: Yeah.
- 1:30:29SPEAKER_09: That's some history right there.
- 1:30:30SPEAKER_11: That is a lot of history.
- 1:30:31SPEAKER_11: And there's a lot of songs on here that we didn't get to.
- 1:30:34SPEAKER_11: If I can find a tape player that actually rewinds in fast forwards, I'll go through them and uh have some stuff ready for whenever we do that again.
- 1:30:44SPEAKER_11: So anyway, uh that's our uh wall of tunes for today.
- 1:30:47SPEAKER_11: Yeah, cassette tapes.
- 1:30:49SPEAKER_11: Uh come across English boys, apparently Adonis, and just us jamming as well.
- 1:30:59SPEAKER_11: That's pretty cool.
