- 0:31me? Oh well, jus well not a bad stop you I you see
- 1:14sow smashion shot along you sus. Welcome back everybody. Today, we're going
- 1:42to have a really interesting conversation with a friend, uh Frederick Sean Bart,
- 1:53and he's going to teach us about affiliate marketing. When affiliate marketing isd of
- 2:00misunderstood, and it is a tool that we actually use here at Depictions Media
- 2:05to help run our shows. It brings us advertising dollars in a way that
- 2:12we couldn't actually bring them in ourselves, even with a huge active selling force.
- 2:24That a lot of times when you click on one of our blog posts
- 2:29or something like that, you see as you scroll down towards the bottom that
- 2:34we ask you to visit our sponsors. It is via affiliate marketing and is
- 2:38a tool that you can offer the services or offer an audience to a service
- 2:49that needs a larger audience to so that they can survive as a business.
- 2:54And French's just going to teach us a little bit more. There's a lot
- 2:59more to affiliate marketing than what I've just described, and there are ways to
- 3:02actually learn it without having the run into those guys that try to sell you
- 3:10snake oil. I'm going to teach you how to how to make thousands of
- 3:15dollars a day overnight. He has a course and he has methods to actually
- 3:23teach you how to bring affiliate marketing into your business in a way that actually
- 3:29helps your business make a little bit of extra income and also helps the other
- 3:37business find a larger audience or help them reach people that they may not be
- 3:44able to reach if they hadn't gone through your business. So why don't we
- 3:49bring Frederick to the show and let's hear more about affiliate marketing and how it
- 3:53can benefit the entire community something we can well. Welcome to the show,
- 4:31Frederick and affiliate marketing. I think sometimes, I know I use a lot
- 4:38of affiliate marketing to drive our business with the podcasting and everything. It's like
- 4:44it becomes a revenue stream that actually pays for all of the databases and things
- 4:51that we got to get onto. It pays for all that and pays for
- 4:57a lot of like pat trees is where we're discussing the batteries on my microphone
- 5:02and stuff like that. All those things that you don't think of we use
- 5:09affiliate marketing to form a budget for that for those for those sort of things,
- 5:15and pace for a lot of online stuff, right. But I think
- 5:18a lot of people get confused with it because of all those people out there
- 5:24here. Let me trying to sell you this system and when you find onto
- 5:30this system, you're gonna find out you're gonna make ten thousand dollars a day.
- 5:33And yeah, it's like and you're not that person trying to sell those
- 5:39sort of systems. You're selling something that's actually real and how we can actually
- 5:43join our businesses together, you know, in the right ways. Right,
- 5:46So how did you get started with all this? Sure? So it's a
- 5:51funny story. Back in two thousand and nine, that was around that recession
- 5:59to thousand and eight. Two thousand and nine, I was out of university
- 6:04for a few years, got laid off from a job, so had to
- 6:08look for another job. It was very hard, and I remember there were
- 6:13a lot of different interviews I've gone to and they were always like I had
- 6:15studied business in university and I specialized in marketing, so I wanted to try
- 6:20and get into marketing. But I was also desperate a recession. So I
- 6:26would go to all these different interviews and be like, oh, yeah,
- 6:28we're a marketing job, and I'd be like super pumped and I'd go there.
- 6:30I had a shirt a suit on, and it was like selling knives
- 6:35door to door or working for Enbridge door to door, because they would be
- 6:39very tricky with how they advertised their job offers back then. And there was
- 6:46a point where I had an offer or I was in an interview process for
- 6:50a job with CIBC, a marketing job there, and then there was this
- 6:54other marketing company that was like an affiliate network and they were to my house.
- 7:00So it was very enticing, but I was so jaded from all the
- 7:03previous jobs they had gone to where it turned out to be like just a
- 7:06fake, not the actual job that they had described. But I decided to
- 7:12roll the dice. I'm the type of person where I like to take calculated
- 7:15risk, and I was like, let me try it out, and I
- 7:19joined this affiliate network. In the interview, at least, I remember,
- 7:23I was like the people there, they were dressed so casual. I had
- 7:29just come from like a corporate job previously, working at like an insurance company,
- 7:32and all of these guys that were in the interview were wearing like shorts
- 7:35and T shirt and I was in a suit, and I was like,
- 7:39oh, this is this has got to be fake. But then they came
- 7:43in they were like, what if we told you you could make more than
- 7:46doctors and lawyers? Should be interested in that? And I was like yes,
- 7:51So I decided to give it a shot and I got in working for
- 7:56this affiliate network and from there, I've been in the industry for around fifteen
- 8:03years and it's taken me to different countries. I've worked in Luxembourg in affiliate
- 8:09marketing. I've worked on the network side, managing affiliates and brands. I've
- 8:16worked on the brand side building managing programs, and I've been an affiliate myself.
- 8:20So in terms of affiliate marketing, this is just my domain effects certise.
- 8:24Wow, it sounds like you've done it all in affiliate marketing. I
- 8:28mean I've I've you know, the affiliate marketing world for people, there's you
- 8:33know, people always think about affiliate marketing as just being an affiliate and all
- 8:37those ads you see online like you make ten thousand dollars and stuff like that,
- 8:43But there's a whole other side of affiliate marketing too, where you can
- 8:46work for an affiliate network. There's a bunch of different vendors that are all
- 8:50part of the ecosystem where you can have a really good career. So that's
- 8:58like something that people don't really understand about affiliate marketing. It's it's it's not
- 9:01just about being an affiliate. There's there are a lot of opportunities to find
- 9:07jobs and careers outside of even being an affiliate. Well, I kind of
- 9:11kind of picture that because somebody's got to run the databases and everything that,
- 9:16like I used to find different advertisers, they somebody's got to manage manage what
- 9:24I'm doing as as the affiliate. So I imagine there's gotta be somebody working
- 9:30behind behind those scenes. It can't just be uh, just a magic computer,
- 9:37right, No. Yeah, so there's there's lots of people. So
- 9:41my job as an affiliate manager when when I was an affiliate manager is basically
- 9:46you work on an affiliate network, and the affiliate network is kind of like
- 9:48the middleman between On one side, you have the affiliates and on the other
- 9:54side you would have like the brands or the advertisers or the merchants, and
- 9:58so the affiliate manager is they will build up a portfolio of different affiliates and
- 10:03they're kind of like advisors or consultants, and they'll recommend certain programs to run
- 10:09or promote. And so the job of an affiliate manager doesn't really get talked
- 10:15about a lot, you know, I think like the affiliate, the role
- 10:18of an affiliate gets glamorized on social media. But there are a lot of
- 10:22affiliate managers out there that also are able to build successful careers, make a
- 10:28lot of money. But it is a job that's very high stress. So
- 10:33getting back to my point, I've been in it for fifteen years. It's
- 10:37like, if you can last fifteen years, you've been battlehearted kind of it.
- 10:41Yeah, I got you on that one. And I think I think
- 10:48we've probably been we've been using affiliate marketing to as a as a driver or
- 10:56or as a fundraiser, should we say, for about maybe eight years.
- 11:03So it's and I guess there are those they can make, like the ten
- 11:09thousand dollars a day sort of thing. Did you see some of these things
- 11:13advertised on YouTube? But well, so with everything, it's it's like anything
- 11:24that seems too good to be true is probably too good to be true?
- 11:28Right now? Are there affiliates out there that are making ten thousand dollars a
- 11:31day or more? Of course there are, there are lots of them,
- 11:35right But what where these people on social media, the gurus where they kind
- 11:41of fabricate the reality is it takes time. You know, a lot of
- 11:48the affiliates who are able to actually be successful in affiliate marketing, they put
- 11:54in a lot of effort and it takes time. And that's something that the
- 11:58gurus don't tell you. They're going to tell you you can make ten thousand
- 12:01dollars a day in less than two weeks kind of thing, and that's just
- 12:05not realistic. It's like, you can do ten thousand dollars a day in
- 12:07affiliate marketing. You can do more than that. You can you can build
- 12:11a multimillion dollar business in affiliate marketing. But it's going to take time.
- 12:15It does. It doesn't happen overnight. It's just like with everything else in
- 12:18the world. It's very hard and it takes time and it takes effort.
- 12:22And I think that's kind of where we people need to be a little more
- 12:28honest about it. But I mean, I guess if you're selling a course
- 12:31honestly, like that doesn't really help you if people signing up, so they
- 12:35ain't gonna say that, but I don't have a course so I can sit
- 12:39you know. Yeah, yeah, dude. One of the pitfalls that I
- 12:46found was we actually did on our end, we actually eventually had to find
- 12:52somebody to actually manage the systems, manage the links because of things like dead
- 13:00links and programs changing in things like that employer where the manager that were they
- 13:07were they were dealing with on the other end, change the program around or
- 13:13uh or change what the the campaign looks like. So we had to change
- 13:18all of our stuff around that sort of thing. I you know, So
- 13:24that was one of one of the things as a company we we've ran into
- 13:28one of those sort of pitfalls. It's, you know, what happens with
- 13:33affiliates. So you know, we were talking a little bit before about sort
- 13:37of the affiliate perspective and the positives and the negatives of that. What you're
- 13:43talking about are sort of like the merchants, these companies that will set up
- 13:46affiliate programs and then they'll have affiliates like yourself, and then they don't communicate
- 13:52with them properly. And so that's the other side of the business where a
- 13:56lot of let's call it merchants, brands, companies will set up these affiliate
- 14:01programs because they also are being told online you can set up an affiliate program,
- 14:05it's amazing, you can acquire customers, or you can get leads.
- 14:11Leads on a performance basis, it's the most efficient, cost effective way of
- 14:16acquiring customers. But what they don't know is they don't have any strategy,
- 14:20or they don't know how to manage it, or they're not allocating the right
- 14:24resources of it, and so on the other side, on the like brand
- 14:30merchant advertiser side, you can are there brands that are able to do millions
- 14:35of dollars on their affiliate programs. Yes, like there are lots and lots
- 14:39of them. There are brands who are able to generate so much revenue from
- 14:43their affiliate program it's actually one of the main reasons why they get acquired.
- 14:48Down the line. Now, the majority of merchants, I would say,
- 14:54have no idea what they're doing. They'll just get an affiliate program set up
- 14:58very quickly. Because it's like, if you work with some of these affiliate
- 15:01networks like CJ or share Sale or Impact. It's very easy to get an
- 15:05affiliate program set up. They make it very simple for them to do.
- 15:07But that's not where it ends. The thing about affiliate marketing is that it's
- 15:13actually all about the relationships, and so a good affiliate program would have an
- 15:18affiliate manager who is going to communicate with you. So link changes, program
- 15:26changes, they happen all the time, but the important thing is you need
- 15:31to communicate to your affiliates because these are your partners and your business. So
- 15:37unfortunately, there are a lot of programs out there where you'll apply for it
- 15:41and nobody ever reviews your application, nobody ever gets back to you. There's
- 15:46a lot of that too, and that's sort of where my services are,
- 15:52Like we work with businesses and we help them and give the strategy on how
- 15:56to build successful affiliate programs where they're able to build and grow it. Because
- 16:03because an affiliate program where you're not communicating with your affiliates, you're not treating
- 16:07them with respect, you're not giving them the information, that's not a program
- 16:11that's going to be able to grow and scale. You're gonna have just you're
- 16:15gonna have affiliates like yourself. They're gonna be like, well, why am
- 16:18I going to promote this business when they're not even getting back to me or
- 16:21they don't communicate with you know, they don't tell me of changes when I
- 16:22can go somewhere else and this one does, you know. So that's kind
- 16:26of like a status of affiliate marketing on both sides of the aisle. Yeah,
- 16:33because there was there a few programs where it's like I actually found myself
- 16:42shopping on the on on their on the merchants site because it's like, hey,
- 16:48they got some really cool stuff, right, and if I buy it
- 16:52through my affiliate thing, it's like my chapper brain's going like, hey,
- 16:57that's that's like a discount or sure, why not? Right? You know
- 17:03it's a Christmas shop in whatever, right, So and lo and behold it.
- 17:10That merchant disappeared because I guess whatever whoever's managing it was mismanaging it,
- 17:19because the business is still there, the website's still there, it's just all
- 17:25of the affiliate stuff disappeared. Yeah, And I mean it's tough because if
- 17:32you don't have the right strategy, if you don't have the resources, then
- 17:37and if you just basically don't know what you're doing. You're gonna mismanage the
- 17:41program, you know, and then you're gonna have affiliates that are unhappy with
- 17:45you. And word gets around in the affiliate world, you know, when
- 17:49when there's a really good program that works well affiliates no, yeah, and
- 17:53that's how you get more affiliates, and that's how you grow it. I
- 17:56mean, you have a program that doesn't work well, affiliates also now because
- 18:00they talk and they talk, they talk amongst each other. Yeah. No,
- 18:06there are some other other things with a different avenue that we do actually
- 18:12talk to some of some of the people that we that we that we've worked
- 18:18with in the past, like coaches and consultants where we've actually put their link
- 18:23up there and we do like a revenue share sort of thing. Do you
- 18:29help businesses work out that sort of thing where they can actually have like an
- 18:36organized way of doing a revenue share to those who want to represent them?
- 18:41Still, the answer is no, we're I mean, you know, there
- 18:45are so many different arts of affiliate marketing. You know, there's the B
- 18:52two C side, there's the B two B side. We really focus on
- 18:56B two C like you know, there's a specific niche that we work with
- 19:02in terms of e commerce brands that are doing a certain amount of revenue that
- 19:06are running paid ads online. But at the same time too, I'm someone
- 19:12where I believe in the more value you put out there and you can provide
- 19:19to people, the more you can help people, it all comes back to
- 19:22you. So you know, although it's it's not part of our business and
- 19:26our service offering, if anybody, I've had like three conversations with people this
- 19:32week where it wasn't really a fit for what we do, and I knew
- 19:34that from the from the from the onset, but I still had the conversation
- 19:38with them and I still tried to help them out in terms of like consultants
- 19:44and whatnot. There, I would say it's there are a lot of different
- 19:48platforms out there where you can set up an affiliate program and it's very easy
- 19:55to give people links like affiliate links to promote, and so that's something where
- 20:04that's like the most important thing to do. I think step one if if
- 20:08you're a business coach or consultant and you want to set up an affiliate program
- 20:15where you know farm people of your network, you can split a rep share
- 20:19with them. Then step one is too, you know, sign up for
- 20:25an affiliate platform like a reversion or something where you can actually give people links
- 20:30because you have to be able to track everything, right Yeah, so yeah,
- 20:36the tracking is super important. So who are some of your favorite clients
- 20:41to work with? So for me, it's the they have to have an
- 20:48e commerce product and they have to be open to testing things. So best
- 21:00the best type of cliss for me are direct to consumer e commerce brands in
- 21:04the seven to nine figure range in terms of revenue. They're running paid ads,
- 21:11so they understand the importance and value of direct response marketing. So direct
- 21:21response marketing is all about getting that customer to act now. It's about getting
- 21:27them to purchase now. So direct within direct response marketing, there are tactics
- 21:33and techniques that you use, like scarcity, urgency creating, like discounts offers
- 21:41to entice that customer to purchase today. It's a little bit different than a
- 21:47company that really cares about their branding, right, So a company that wants
- 21:52to do run ads or like their marketing is all about their branding, they're
- 21:56they're not, so they don't care as much to get that customer to purchase
- 22:00today, it's about putting their brand name in that customer's mind. So yeah,
- 22:07So to get back to your question, the brands and the clients that
- 22:10we like to work with, they understand the power of direct response marketing,
- 22:14and even if they don't understand it, they're willing to try it because that's
- 22:18super important in terms of how affiliate marketing works. Yeah, I imagine there
- 22:29is actually a huge difference between like signing up from Google Ads and then having
- 22:37a group like manage what it is a campaign of how you're going to get
- 22:44that direct response. So so like there are there are different types of affiliates.
- 22:51So I think I'll talk about this for a second because it's something that
- 22:55most people don't know about. So when people think about affiliates, there are
- 22:59a couple different types of affiliates that they always think about. So they'll think
- 23:03of content sites, So like a person who owns a blog or a review
- 23:06site, there are influencers or content creators. And then the third type of
- 23:11affiliate is usually a coupon site. These are the types of affiliates that are
- 23:17primarily on affiliate networks like commission, Junction, Share a Sale, Impact,
- 23:22a win, click bank, but there's another type of affiliate that nobody ever
- 23:29talks about, and those are affiliates who are media buyers. And this is
- 23:34the type of affiliate that I specialize in that I've worked with for fifteen years.
- 23:40And a media buyer is an affiliate who will they'll use their own money
- 23:45to run ads promoting your affiliate link. So, for example, let's say
- 23:51you were a merchant and you are selling microphones, and you would work with
- 23:56one of these affiliate media buyers. You would tell them, okay, affiliate,
- 24:00I will pay you for every customer you get me, I will pay
- 24:02you fifty dollars. So that affiliate is going to build some ads. He'll
- 24:07run the ads on Facebook using his affiliate link, and anytime he gets a
- 24:14customer, right, he's gonna get paid from you fifty dollars. So he's
- 24:18trying to acquire those customers on Facebook, let's say, or TikTok for less
- 24:22than fifty dollars. So let's say let's say for every customer he acquires,
- 24:27you're gonna pay him fifty dollars. Well, when he runs the ads on
- 24:33Facebook or she, they'll try and acquire that customer for you know, forty
- 24:38dollars, thirty dollars, twenty dollars, and that profit margin is how they
- 24:41make their money. And so this type of affiliate, like the media buyers,
- 24:48they will they will use their own money, right, and they'll run
- 24:52ads promoting your product or your brand on the different channels like Facebook, TikTok,
- 24:57Snapchat, YouTube, search, display. And the crazy part about it
- 25:07is most people don't know about these type of affiliates, but it's a massive
- 25:11industry. It's actually like we have our own trade shows. The industry generates
- 25:15billions of dollars. There's like there are hundreds of thousands of affiliates out there
- 25:21who promote offers this way. And so we really focus on this type of
- 25:26affiliate and we connect the e commerce brands to these affiliates and we give them
- 25:32the strategy on how to build affiliate programs that will attract these type of affiliates.
- 25:37Does that make sense? It does actually make sense. So so so
- 25:45for example, let's say you're you're the you're the merchant, okay, and
- 25:49you're selling microphones. Traditionally, if you want to run ads online, you
- 25:55would go to you would either one hire someone internally to run the ads for
- 26:00you. Or two you would hire an agency, some kind of digital marketing
- 26:03agency, and with both of those things, not only are you going to
- 26:10have to pay the employee or pay the agency, but then you're also going
- 26:14to have to put capital out to run the ads. Right by working with
- 26:19the affiliate media buyers, they use their own money for the ads, so
- 26:23you're not you're not putting out any capital there, and you're only paying them
- 26:30when they get a customer for you. It's a straight performance basis. So
- 26:33the benefit is there's less capital expend sture. You're working with some of the
- 26:40best digital marketing experts in the world, and you're working with them on a
- 26:44commission basis, and you know you can you can be working with five of
- 26:49the top affiliates and digital marketers for Facebook, and then you'll have some that
- 26:53are running TikTok and some that are running YouTube. And so instead of just
- 26:57paying an agency that you're probably going to get one person buying ads for you,
- 27:02you have a team of online digital marketers that are working for you on
- 27:07a commission basis. It's it's really really a great model. Yeah, yeah,
- 27:15it does kind of remind me of could you could you You actually said
- 27:22said that they're they're buying up the media themselves and then lending it to to
- 27:29what to whatever the widget is of the day, right, you know,
- 27:33yeah, whatever whatever traffic source they're buying on. Their goal is to get
- 27:37customers. Now, that's why the direct response marketing has to be there,
- 27:41because if if they're let's say they run an AD and that customer doesn't purchase
- 27:45today, but but they'll purchase down the line, they don't get credit for
- 27:49that, you know that that doesn't matter to them. So they're really good
- 27:52at getting customers to buy now. Yeah, yeah, it makes it does
- 28:00make it. I've see I'm seeing the model and and it sounds pretty pretty
- 28:08damn interesting. Yeah. But so like the reactions started doing on either end
- 28:14the how do you get started doing doing something like that? So if if
- 28:18you're a merchant or you have like an e commerce brand, it's very hard.
- 28:23You need you need someone like me as like a consultant to do it,
- 28:26to be able to do it properly. Right, But but our process
- 28:30is this, So step one is you need to get set up on a
- 28:33tracking platform because in order to work with different you're going to be working with
- 28:37multiple affiliate networks and you need kind of like a CRM, like a centralized
- 28:44place to be able to track all the places. So that's step one.
- 28:47Step two is you get introductions and connected with the different affiliate networks. Some
- 28:52affiliate networks are specialized in you know, Facebook affiliate. Some affiliate networks have
- 29:03really good emailers. So you need to know which affiliate networks to work with
- 29:07and who are the best ones for the different traffic sources. So once you
- 29:11get that process set up, the next part is you really need to build
- 29:15funnels and landing pages. This is like a really really important part that a
- 29:19lot of brands still shockingly don't understand the power of building a landing page.
- 29:26So most brands when they run ads to their e commerce store, they may
- 29:30go to the homepage of their e commerce store, or they go to the
- 29:33product page. But with our strategy and what works for these affiliates is you
- 29:40go to a landing page because you want to drive that customer to a page
- 29:45that just is selling the one hero product. You don't want them to get
- 29:48distracted and like, oh, what is this product, and then they forget
- 29:51and then they go away. You drive them to a landing page that has
- 29:55the one product, and then you create an offer for that customer. You
- 29:57create an offer that's so good that they see and they say, wow,
- 30:02I can't refuse this offer. I have to buy now. And so we
- 30:06help them with that strategy. You know, in certain things that we do
- 30:08in terms of like creating an offer for the customer. You can bundle that
- 30:12product, so you can sell one, two, and three product bundles of
- 30:18that hero product. And on the two product bundle, on the three product
- 30:22bundle, you offer higher discounts. You might offer a free gift purchase,
- 30:26you might offer some kind of free trial or whatnot. But the high level
- 30:32goal really is for that customer to come to the landing page be like,
- 30:36Wow, this is a great deal. I can sign up for this and
- 30:40I can get three free things as well. Oh man, I need to
- 30:41buy this right now. So that's part of the strategy. And then your
- 30:47creatives as well need to be very direct response as well. The creatives need
- 30:53you can't just have like the type of creatives that work online these days.
- 30:59They have to be like quick cuts and there's a certain strategy that they should
- 31:04follow. But that's another thing that we help them with. And so Once
- 31:07they have all of that in place, they also have to have a good
- 31:12like up sell strategy as well. They have Basically in order for this to
- 31:17work, you have to get the customer to drive like purchase a high AOV.
- 31:26So AOV is like an average order value. So in that landing page
- 31:32example, right, maybe the one product is thirty to a bucks, but
- 31:36maybe the two product bundill is seventy. You want to get that customer to
- 31:40buy the two product bund because that drives up their AOV. So these are
- 31:42the strategies that we do. Once that's all implemented, and the last step
- 31:48is to introduce them to all of these affiliate media buyers because that's one of
- 31:55the most valuable things we do. We have these relationships. We know who
- 31:57these affiliate media buyers are. So that's on the that's on the merchant side.
- 32:04That's kind of how to build an affiliate program to work and attract these
- 32:08top affiliate media buyers. Yeah, does that make sense. That does make
- 32:15sense. Yeah, and it makes makes a lot of sense, especially on
- 32:20you know, the especially we work with with clients that we try to get
- 32:29them to Okay, yeah, that's the future. But you want to play
- 32:31up the benefit mm hm, you know sort of thing. So because the
- 32:37more benefit, the more that feature looks beneficial, the more likely the person
- 32:42is to buy, right, So yep, exactly, so yeah, so
- 32:47we so that part makes sense. So what about the other side where you're
- 32:57the person, you're the affiliate buying the media. Yeah, so that side
- 33:02is it's hard. That's that's my disclaimer. It's very hard to be an
- 33:12affiliate media buyer because if you think about it, right, you're gonna have
- 33:17to run ads somewhere online. Okay, so whether you pick Facebook, TikTok,
- 33:22those are the two biggest ones these days, you know, Google,
- 33:25YouTube, So you're going to run these ads in the beginning, Like how
- 33:36all of these platforms work is It's all an algorithm, right, So you
- 33:43put a link out there. You're gonna tell them, hey, I want
- 33:45to target people twenty five to thirty five years old based in the US.
- 33:50I want to target men only or women only, and here are my ads,
- 33:57and then you set up a budget of how much you're going to spend
- 33:59for In the beginning, the algorithm is just learning, right, So the
- 34:02algorithm is going to run your ads to's like different people and then you may
- 34:07get a sale here, a sale there, but typically and eventually, sorry,
- 34:14what will happen is that platforms algorithm is going to know exactly who to
- 34:19target right and then at that point then it'll start just knowing exactly the type
- 34:23of customers that are going to purchase from your ads, and then things get
- 34:28really good there and you can start scaling and life is great at that point.
- 34:31But before you get to that point, you're gonna lose a lot of
- 34:35money because you're gonna need to figure out who to target, who are the
- 34:38best people to target. You're gonna need to figure out what are the best
- 34:43type of ads to run, what are the best type of angles to run.
- 34:49And so it's I'm not I'm not doing a good job selling this right
- 34:52now, but of selling I know, I know, I know, like
- 34:59this is this is the true truth, right Like everyone online they're going to
- 35:00tell you super easy and it's gonna work blah blah blah. But anybody that's
- 35:04done it knows you're gonna lose a ton of money and it's super hard and
- 35:07you just have to be able to withstand that and keep going, and eventually
- 35:12you may find an affiliate program that works really well, and then you can
- 35:16you can scale it up. But so that's kind of like how it works.
- 35:22The smartest way to do it, though, is there is a there's
- 35:25an affiliate forum called Stack that Money All. They think it might be STM
- 35:31dot com, and it's an amazing forum. There's so many affiliate media buyers
- 35:38in there. There are a lot of case studies and follow alongs. There
- 35:42are a lot of guides that can teach you how to like buy ads and
- 35:45run these ads online. Yeah, so that would that would be a good
- 35:50way because in the forum, it's not necessarily they don't they try to prevent
- 35:55people from just selling courses and stuff. They really want to try and promote
- 35:59a community where people share knowledge and people can gain value and stuff like that,
- 36:04so that it is a good place to start. And then if the
- 36:08best best way is if you can network with someone in that community who's already
- 36:14an affiliate, who's who's doing who's successful, and you can ask them to
- 36:19shadow them and or have like a mentor someone that can teach you how to
- 36:23go about doing that. And that's the real honest way of how to become
- 36:28successful. Affiliate medidby, Yeah, because just just by way of example,
- 36:37are the people who are listening to the audio version of this podcast right now,
- 36:45they have been interrupted at least once with an ad. Okay, because
- 36:55the platform that we use, and the reason why we use this particular platform
- 36:59is because it has advertising that also matches the local radio stations because of the
- 37:08secrets out here, guys. The platform we use is owned by iHeartRadio,
- 37:15right, Okay, so they're massive, massive, They're massive. Right.
- 37:21It's like you can't you can't go into a market anywhere in North America and
- 37:27not run into an iHeart Radio station. Yeah. Well maybe if you're some
- 37:32really small, small, small take town. But hey, we're gonna roll
- 37:37those guys out, all right. So by way new effect, I can
- 37:45actually purchase advertising time from them and then put people up there that I want
- 37:53to advertise. Yeah, and and and you'll like another another good example of
- 38:00that are people any type of like podcasts or YouTube show that you watch,
- 38:06right, so you can have the Google ads where it'll completely change to it
- 38:10like a commercial or an ad, right, and the podcast pauses and it
- 38:14goes to the ad. But a lot of times now the YouTubers in the
- 38:16middle of their YouTube they'll promote a product or they'll promote a company, and
- 38:22then in that YouTube description there'll be an affiliate link to sign up there.
- 38:28So that's another way of affiliate marketing. Like for me, if I were
- 38:32to give your audience advice on how to be an affiliate, I wouldn't suggest
- 38:37actually starting as a media buyer. I would say you want to either you
- 38:44want to build an audience. So there are two main ways that you can
- 38:46do that. You can start a blog. You can do either like a
- 38:52personal blog and you're like an authority on food, or you're an authority on
- 38:55tech, or you're an authority on marketing, or it can be all these
- 38:59different types of niches. You can start a blog where you just review different
- 39:04e commerce products, it can be like a generic one, or if you
- 39:08feel really comfortable in front of a camera, you can start a YouTube page
- 39:13or channel. And either way, the goal is you need to build an
- 39:20audience. You need to build trust and authority, and if you can do
- 39:24that over a long period of time, you can really start monetizing that audience
- 39:30with the right brands and products fit the demographics of the of your audience.
- 39:37So like starting a blog is the easiest way, right, like to become
- 39:43an affiliate, I would say, is starting a blog. You don't have
- 39:45to be on camera. You can just you know, sign up for all
- 39:49these different affiliate programs. You can write reviews about different products. I mean,
- 39:53honestly, there are some amazing companies out there AI that you don't even
- 40:01need to write the content yourself, and you can. You can pump it
- 40:07out and you can build a million dollar business through a blog. So like
- 40:13the people on social media, the social media gurus, you're saying you can
- 40:15make a million dollars through affiliate marketing by running a blog, they're right.
- 40:21The problem that they're that they're not saying is the timeline that it takes.
- 40:24It takes years typically just really start generating revenue, whether you're doing it through
- 40:32like a social media platform like YouTube or through your blog. It just it
- 40:37takes time and effort, Which brings me back to the first thing I said
- 40:40is there's a lot of money to be made in affiliate marketing, but it
- 40:43takes time and effort. Yeah. Yeah, And I think that's the key
- 40:49to any of it is you got to put put the time in an effort
- 40:53into it, right m hmm. Yeah, for sure, but like the
- 40:59people that are that's the problem is that most people don't have the patience to
- 41:02stick it out for the long run. But the people that are able to
- 41:07do it are able to build these businesses that like, you can build a
- 41:12blog, and you can build a blog that generates pretty significant revenue on a
- 41:17monthly basis, and you can be just happy with that, right, and
- 41:21you can have that blog forever. You can build out another blog and you
- 41:23get all this cash flow coming in. But there are a lot of people
- 41:28also that build blogs and that if they get it to a certain revenue level,
- 41:31or you can sell it in the marketplace. You can sell a blog.
- 41:37There are people that buy blogs online. There are marketplaces for buying and
- 41:43selling blogs. And these blogs it's like, yes, it is. Some
- 41:47of them are valued at like six figures. Some of them are valued at
- 41:51a million, two million, Like it's it's insane, and so like that's
- 41:58proof that it does work, right, there is a lot of money in
- 42:02it. But these blogs, when you if you were to go on the
- 42:06buy and sell and you would see how long they've been in existence, it's
- 42:08like five, six, seven, eight years. You know, it's not
- 42:13thirty days. No, it's likely thirty days. I mean some of the
- 42:19some of the revenue streams that we have in our own system, they've they've
- 42:25been with us since since the very beginning, you know, like I said,
- 42:30we've we've we've been around for for eight years doing podcasting and doing shows
- 42:37like this, and people are like, well, you don't have a viral
- 42:43thing. It's like, no, it's not about viral. It's about having
- 42:46a steady stream so that people get comfortable with you. Yea. How many
- 42:52people are looking for that fast, quick whatever it is. Yeah, it's
- 42:58a fast, quick dollar instant like dopamine hit. Learned willing to be patient
- 43:05these days? Yeah, he said that the dopamine hit you know. So
- 43:12yeah. Best advice for for people just wanting it to get into it,
- 43:20what do you got for them? Best advice for someone looking to get into
- 43:24affiliate marketing? I would say, learn to uh start a blog. There
- 43:31are some really good people out there. There is Adam N. Frey.
- 43:38Adam and his last name is Ian F r o y adamnfreud dot com.
- 43:45He's someone that I've I actually know personally and i've so I've seen him like
- 43:51he built his blog from zero dollars and he actually has it on his website.
- 43:55He shows you how much he's made every single month. And it started
- 43:59as zero and he just kept going and now it's like this blog is worth
- 44:05millions of dollars kind of thing. And but there are a lot of other
- 44:09people out there that that teach you how to start a blog. And I
- 44:14would I would say you want to some people they want to start a blog
- 44:20and they don't want to have any affiliate links. They didn't want to be
- 44:22associated with affiliate They just want to be just want to have a blog to
- 44:25just you know, be pure and you know, have people read it.
- 44:30But you want to monetize that if you have an audience and and and adding
- 44:35affiliate marketing and reviewing different products and reviewing different brands is a great way to
- 44:39monetize that. So that would be my suggest and start a blog. If
- 44:44you don't like writing, you don't need to even write it. There is
- 44:46a company out there called content at Scale and basically it's an AI platform where
- 44:54they can write long form review articles for you and you pay like a monthly
- 45:00fee, but you can pump out like ten twenty thirty forty articles a month,
- 45:07and this is one of the ways that you're able to fast track how
- 45:10much traffic you're getting to the site, and that can like fast track the
- 45:14way that you can actually earn money through affiliate marketing. Yeah, that'll be
- 45:17my suggestion. Yeah, yeah, all right, so it's affiliate marketing is
- 45:25a pretty good tool that I think did a lot of actual business owners overlook
- 45:31also. So yep, yeah, so yeah, well, thanks for your
- 45:37time today. It's like it's been been a lot of fun and I need
