- 0:02Speaker 1: Thirty five minutes past the hour, not wasting a moment
- 0:06Speaker 1: of her time, Riley gains with us this morning, founder
- 0:09Speaker 1: of the Riley Gaines Center at the Leadership Institute. She's
- 0:13Speaker 1: been with us before. In fact, the last time Riley
- 0:15Speaker 1: was with us she later that day, was there when
- 0:18Speaker 1: President Donald Trump signed and signed an executive order trying
- 0:23Speaker 1: to protect women's sports and spaces. Riley, welcome back. How
- 0:28Speaker 1: are you.
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, I'm fantastic. It is so good to be on
- 0:32Speaker 2: with you.
- 0:33Speaker 1: I remember that day. I remember seeing your face when
- 0:37Speaker 1: he signed that document and handed you a pen, but
- 0:41Speaker 1: you knew deep down that that was not going to
- 0:44Speaker 1: get this thing done. Hence, the fight is far from over. Tour.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Tell us kind of your appraisal of where things are
- 0:51Speaker 1: right now in protecting women's sports and protecting women's spaces.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Well, you're so right. Being there for that signing was
- 1:00Speaker 2: just of course, it was an experience that I'll never
- 1:02Speaker 2: forget in the visual that came from it, where I'm
- 1:06Speaker 2: sure you saw the clips. I'm sure you saw some
- 1:08Speaker 2: of the videos and the images that surface where you
- 1:11Speaker 2: have President Trump signing this executive order surrounded by all
- 1:15Speaker 2: these little girls. I mean they're five, six, seven, eight
- 1:18Speaker 2: years old, and they're wearing their jerseys. I loved it
- 1:20Speaker 2: other sports jersey. Wasn't it amazing?
- 1:22Speaker 1: I watched it all arrive. I was beaman.
- 1:26Speaker 2: As the little girls were. Their faces were so joyous
- 1:29Speaker 2: and excited. But you're right, I went into that knowing
- 1:34Speaker 2: that there would be states number one that of course
- 1:38Speaker 2: would not adhere, they would not comply to federal law,
- 1:41Speaker 2: to this executive order, and knowing of course that there
- 1:44Speaker 2: are are just about half the states, a little under
- 1:47Speaker 2: half the states that have not passed any sort of
- 1:51Speaker 2: state law themselves. So that's of course what we've seen.
- 1:55Speaker 2: We've seen the NC DOUBLEA. That's another entity that is
- 1:58Speaker 2: completely not fallen in compliance with this executive order. We
- 2:03Speaker 2: saw Congress. We's not passed the House, but we saw
- 2:06Speaker 2: this this bill that would codify this executive order fail
- 2:10Speaker 2: in the Senate, with all US Democrat senators voting in
- 2:14Speaker 2: opposition of this. So, look, while it's great that we
- 2:18Speaker 2: have seen the decisive swift action from President Trump, you're right,
- 2:23Speaker 2: the fart the fight is far from over, and the
- 2:26Speaker 2: war on look, it just hasn't been won yet.
- 2:29Speaker 1: I'm curious where you think it's the most effective battlefield
- 2:33Speaker 1: for this thing. I have some thoughts, but I'd like yours.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Well, what we have seen the most effective. It's public pressure.
- 2:43Speaker 2: It's amazing to me that we have had Democrats. Again.
- 2:49Speaker 2: I hate to make it partisan like that because the
- 2:51Speaker 2: reality of the situation is it's really not a partisan issue.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's not polarizing at all. Actually, it's very unifying, and
- 2:57Speaker 2: we see that in the numbers. They say it's an
- 2:59Speaker 2: eighty two issue. I think it's more Jurassic than that.
- 3:02Speaker 2: But in terms of elected representation and how the media
- 3:06Speaker 2: is representing this issue, it really is partisan. So it's
- 3:09Speaker 2: amazing to me to see the elected Democrats doubled down.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I really thought on November fifth, when Donald Trump won,
- 3:18Speaker 2: that Democrats were going to distance themselves from their voting record,
- 3:23Speaker 2: act like they never took the stance be totally in
- 3:25Speaker 2: alignment with protecting women and girls in their private spaces.
- 3:29Speaker 2: But that's not at all what we've done. So what
- 3:32Speaker 2: we know works is public pressure. We need people we
- 3:35Speaker 2: need everyday, people who otherwise would have never been involved
- 3:38Speaker 2: in politics, people like myself. Look, I had no interest
- 3:42Speaker 2: in taking the position and stance that I did. You
- 3:45Speaker 2: know being thrust into the limelight and the way that
- 3:48Speaker 2: I have, But it's a necessity. It requires men, it
- 3:51Speaker 2: requires women, old, young, white, black, gay, straight, It doesn't matter.
- 3:57Speaker 2: None of those identity factors matter when you're dealing with
- 4:00Speaker 2: such an important and timely issue as women's rights.
- 4:06Speaker 1: Regular listeners, ruminators of this radio program know, I have
- 4:09Speaker 1: been talking about this topic for years, and it pains
- 4:13Speaker 1: me that we've had to devote the time we've had
- 4:15Speaker 1: to devote to it. But I'm doing this in part
- 4:19Speaker 1: because I have granddaughters and I am determined to help
- 4:23Speaker 1: make sure that they have a place to compete, a
- 4:26Speaker 1: place to shower, change clothes. Riley, We're seeing stories. We
- 4:31Speaker 1: saw a story just this past week. We talked about it.
- 4:33Speaker 1: I know you posted on it in Oregon. A young
- 4:37Speaker 1: man beat women, young girls and took awards from young girls.
- 4:44Speaker 1: And it's absurd that we find ourselves even discussing this.
- 4:50Speaker 2: That's the truth. I often think if our founding fathers
- 4:55Speaker 2: were still around and they saw some of these headlines
- 4:58Speaker 2: that are being published, they would be confused. Wouldn't even
- 5:02Speaker 2: understand what is being communicated, what is being said, They
- 5:05Speaker 2: wouldn't understand what trans woman trans men seeing she used
- 5:10Speaker 2: for a mugshot of a male who's imprisoned for either
- 5:14Speaker 2: murdering a child. We've seen some crazy stories when the
- 5:18Speaker 2: mugshot is very obviously a male. So yeah, what we
- 5:20Speaker 2: saw in Oregon, it's tragic, but truthfully, it's unsurprising. This
- 5:28Speaker 2: is a male who's competed for several years now, taking
- 5:31Speaker 2: opportunities away from girls. I've talked to several of the
- 5:34Speaker 2: girls he's competed against, who of course recognized the unfairness.
- 5:39Speaker 2: But they, truthfully, they don't know what to do. And look,
- 5:42Speaker 2: I will tell you I don't blame them. They're so
- 5:43Speaker 2: young to have to to know how best to defend themselves. Really,
- 5:48Speaker 2: the problem is the adults. Whether it's the parents, whether
- 5:51Speaker 2: it's the coaches, whether it's the athletic directors, the officials.
- 5:56Speaker 2: The adults have failed them and they're left to bear
- 5:59Speaker 2: the burden of defending themselves. It's really sad. But what
- 6:02Speaker 2: I do think we need to see in states where
- 6:05Speaker 2: this continues to happen like Oregon, Maye, Michigan, Minnesota, California, Washington,
- 6:10Speaker 2: the list goes on. What we need to see is
- 6:13Speaker 2: girls ultimately boycotting and that's what we've dubbed this. We've
- 6:18Speaker 2: dubbed it project boycott, with emphasis on the word boy.
- 6:22Speaker 2: And these girls they get on the track, they get
- 6:25Speaker 2: on the court at the field, and when there's a
- 6:27Speaker 2: boy on the other side of the net or a
- 6:29Speaker 2: boy in the lane next to them, they don't go
- 6:31Speaker 2: and looking. You know, that's easier said than done, but
- 6:33Speaker 2: that is the most powerful way to send the message
- 6:37Speaker 2: that enough is enough. I'm not going to be subjected
- 6:40Speaker 2: to this type of discrimination.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Riley. I'm glad you said that. I want to run
- 6:45Speaker 1: two things by you and get your thoughts. Number one,
- 6:49Speaker 1: I've advocated that same thing for quite a while now,
- 6:52Speaker 1: just don't compete. However, I want to propose another idea,
- 6:57Speaker 1: because we're not getting the attention of enough pieceeople in
- 7:00Speaker 1: enough important places. What are your thoughts on organizing a
- 7:04Speaker 1: complete shutdown of girls athletics for one day sometime in
- 7:10Speaker 1: the fall or the winter. Give it time to be
- 7:13Speaker 1: organized where we get the attention of parents, and we
- 7:16Speaker 1: simply say it on this day, no girl's going to
- 7:19Speaker 1: compete in any athletic competition anywhere until we get this changed.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Look, I think this is awesome we've I've thought about
- 7:28Speaker 2: this for a while. Of course, as you could imagine,
- 7:31Speaker 2: it would be hard to coordinate, and it of course
- 7:33Speaker 2: be hard to get everyone on board, but again it
- 7:36Speaker 2: would be really powerful. And so the day that I
- 7:39Speaker 2: propose is October tenth. And the reason why is because
- 7:42Speaker 2: it's the tenth day of the tenth month, which in
- 7:45Speaker 2: Roman numerals is x X, which of course is the
- 7:49Speaker 2: female chromosomes, the real fifth grade biology.
- 7:52Speaker 1: See brilliant, you know that.
- 7:55Speaker 2: And it's again, it sends a it sends a message
- 7:59Speaker 2: that cannot be ignored. That's what they've done for years.
- 8:02Speaker 2: That's especially what they did with President Biden and offices.
- 8:05Speaker 2: They just ignored us. They stone welled us. They didn't
- 8:08Speaker 2: give us a seat at the table to even have
- 8:10Speaker 2: the conversation. Well, guess what now, because of the current administration,
- 8:14Speaker 2: because of the political landscape across the country, because of
- 8:18Speaker 2: the shift in public opinion that we've visibly got to
- 8:21Speaker 2: see based on poll numbers, we do have a seat
- 8:25Speaker 2: at the table. We have a voice as women. It's
- 8:28Speaker 2: time we use it and we send the message again
- 8:31Speaker 2: that these regressive policies, it's in the name of progress,
- 8:37Speaker 2: in the name of feminism again. It's taking our rights
- 8:40Speaker 2: to equal opportunity as women away.
- 8:43Speaker 1: I think it's a brilliant idea. I love the date.
- 8:45Speaker 1: I support it wholeheartedly. I think it has to be
- 8:48Speaker 1: more than just when there's a transgendered athlete competing. I
- 8:52Speaker 1: think it has to be we're going to protect women's sports,
- 8:55Speaker 1: girl sports, and girl spaces. The second thing I wanted
- 8:59Speaker 1: to suggest, get your thoughts on. There are too many
- 9:02Speaker 1: things being kicked around about birth certificates. It can't be
- 9:05Speaker 1: birth certificates. It's got to be DNA testing.
- 9:08Speaker 2: That's right. This is exactly what the NCAA is done
- 9:11Speaker 2: and why I said they're not incompliance. Yep, their new
- 9:15Speaker 2: policy that they have in place, it does it resorts
- 9:17Speaker 2: to birth certificates, which what we know is birth certificates
- 9:21Speaker 2: can be made fraudulent. They can be changed in all
- 9:24Speaker 2: but six states, and of course across the world. We've
- 9:27Speaker 2: seen some great action by Secretary of Saint Marco Rubio's
- 9:32Speaker 2: it pertains to the Olympics. He says, look, we're not
- 9:35Speaker 2: going to consider fraudulent passports in the Olympics as they're
- 9:39Speaker 2: hosted in the United States. In twenty twenty eight, so absolutely,
- 9:43Speaker 2: a simple cheek swab. People say it's invasive, the less
- 9:46Speaker 2: says it's invasive. Again, was the COVID test, the swab
- 9:51Speaker 2: that touched my brain not invasive, if that's the standards.
- 9:55Speaker 2: Was the drug test we had to take in college
- 9:57Speaker 2: where you went into a bathroom, you have someone standing
- 10:00Speaker 2: at the stall door watching you. You dropped your pants
- 10:03Speaker 2: to your ankles, you lifted your shirt up to the
- 10:05Speaker 2: three sixty and then teeing the cup while they continue
- 10:08Speaker 2: to watch you. Is that not necessarily invasive? It's silly.
- 10:12Speaker 2: It's stupid to say it's invasive. It's a simple cheek
- 10:16Speaker 2: swab or saliva test.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Lastly, you are coming to Florida State University, and of
- 10:22Speaker 1: course we are right in the heart of it all
- 10:24Speaker 1: right here this Friday at the Bellany Build, Bellamy Building,
- 10:30Speaker 1: Room zero zero two to one on Collegiate Loop. Tell
- 10:35Speaker 1: people what they can expect if they come to the event.
- 10:38Speaker 2: Man, I'm so excited. Of course, you can expect a
- 10:41Speaker 2: more in depth conversation as to what we've talked about.
- 10:45Speaker 2: It's hard to get into it in these six seven
- 10:47Speaker 2: minute you know, little time spots, but a more in
- 10:50Speaker 2: depth account of not just my personal experience, but you're right,
- 10:55Speaker 2: the landscape of where we are, the winds that we've seen,
- 10:58Speaker 2: of course the work that's still needs to be done.
- 11:01Speaker 2: I love getting on college campuses. I love engaging with
- 11:04Speaker 2: the youth, really trying to mobilize the youth, and we
- 11:07Speaker 2: saw how important that was again on November fifth. I
- 11:11Speaker 2: don't think we would have won the Swing States we did,
- 11:14Speaker 2: especially had the youth not turned out in droves for
- 11:18Speaker 2: Donald Trump.
- 11:20Speaker 1: I can't I can't thank you enough for what you're doing. Riley.
- 11:23Speaker 1: You have you have a microphone and time here anytime
- 11:26Speaker 1: you want it, so let your folks know anytime you
- 11:29Speaker 1: want to get an announcement out, want to join me
- 11:31Speaker 1: on the show, We're here for you.
- 11:33Speaker 2: You got it, you got it. Thank you so much.
- 11:36Speaker 1: Thank you Riley Gaines with us this morning, and again
- 11:39Speaker 1: the fight is far from over. College Tour coming to
- 11:42Speaker 1: FSU this week Friday. Doors open at six, the event
- 11:47Speaker 1: at six thirty Bellamy Building, Room twenty one one thirteen
- 11:51Speaker 1: Collegiate Loop. So pull out your Google Map because driving
- 11:54Speaker 1: around the campus is a challenge. I've recommended they have
- 11:58Speaker 1: friendly ambassador in the area because not all of you
- 12:02Speaker 1: know the college campus very well, and that they have
- 12:05Speaker 1: people helping you get to the right building. Know this,
- 12:09Speaker 1: there will be people that oppose, and that's why I
- 12:13Speaker 1: want that crowd overwhelmed by you. Support what Riley is doing.
- 12:20Speaker 1: When I say she's literally put her life on the
- 12:22Speaker 1: line to protect girls sports, that is a literal statement
- 12:27Speaker 1: of truth. Support what she's doing. Forty nine minutes past
