- 1:35Speaker 2: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from,
- 1:37Speaker 2: what did we call this place last time?
- 1:38Speaker 1: I don't remember.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Make up something new.
- 1:41Speaker 3: Uh, um.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Grindel's House of Fun.
- 1:46Speaker 1: I was about to say like the procrastination destination or
- 1:50Speaker 1: something like that. I don't know.
- 1:52Speaker 2: It goes well with your I'm not moving.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Plan that you had earlier. No, I haven't. I did
- 1:58Speaker 1: not take off my sweatpants.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I wasn't going to call you out for that, so
- 2:02Speaker 2: you've done it to yourself.
- 2:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 1: I'm proud.
- 2:07Speaker 2: So, we're on location here, hanging out. Have you seen
- 2:12Speaker 2: anything lately that's not this movie we're about to get into?
- 2:19Speaker 1: Hang on.
- 2:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I was thinking.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I was like, I have seen movies recently. I know
- 2:26Speaker 1: I have. What did I go to the theater to
- 2:29Speaker 1: see recently? I mean, I saw Moonlight. This is after Moonlight.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I love Moonlight.
- 2:38Speaker 2: We can return to that. On the Oscars special.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Yes, we can. Man, it's like sweeping every award show
- 2:48Speaker 1: right now.
- 2:48Speaker 2: It's a toss-up, though.
- 2:49Speaker 1: But it's like, okay, so we're going to let it
- 2:51Speaker 1: win everything but the Oscars.
- 2:52Speaker 2: Except the Oscars, because there's a way big flashy thing
- 2:55Speaker 2: that's going to win the Oscars. And picture it probably will.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Hollywood loves Hollywood. It's a movie about Hollywood. They love
- 3:05Speaker 2: movies about film anyway, so... On top of that, it
- 3:09Speaker 2: is pretty good. Acting, it's a toss-up. They might not
- 3:14Speaker 2: give it to What's-His-Face. They might give it to Moonlight.
- 3:17Speaker 2: I think Emma's got a pretty good shot.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Trevante. His name is Trevante something.
- 3:23Speaker 5: I think.
- 3:24Speaker 2: I just hear good things about him.
- 3:25Speaker 1: He's just a beautiful man, and so I followed him
- 3:28Speaker 1: on Instagram.
- 3:29Speaker 2: Not Ryan.
- 3:31Speaker 4: What?
- 3:32Speaker 2: That's sort of the... I mean.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Yeah, but he's old news. Trevante, he's fresh.
- 3:37Speaker 2: Yeah. See, that's what I'm saying. It might be one
- 3:39Speaker 2: of those you're a pretty impressive kid right out of
- 3:42Speaker 2: the gate kind of wins. Those don't happen much, but
- 3:44Speaker 2: every once.
- 3:45Speaker 5: In a while.
- 3:45Speaker 2: He's 26 years old. But still, for Hollywood, that is
- 3:48Speaker 2: like an infant. Yes. Compared to the 90-year-old people voting,
- 3:51Speaker 2: he is a baby.
- 3:53Speaker 1: I mean, I was saying he's 26, but he looks
- 3:55Speaker 1: much older because.
- 3:57Speaker 2: He's so developed. Does he?
- 4:01Speaker 1: You know how last year I was like all blushing
- 4:04Speaker 1: about Oscar Isaac.
- 4:05Speaker 2: All right, all right.
- 4:06Speaker 1: This year, Trevante, what's his name?
- 4:10Speaker 2: Trevante, what's his name?
- 4:11Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. I'm sweating right over here.
- 4:14Speaker 2: Just in case you're out there, Trevante, listening. She may
- 4:16Speaker 2: not know your name, but she's all about you.
- 4:18Speaker 1: Mm-hmm. I'm sure he knows.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I'm sure if you win the Oscar, people will eventually
- 4:22Speaker 2: know your name.
- 4:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 4:24Speaker 2: No offense. So.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Have you seen anything recently besides this movie?
- 4:31Speaker 2: Again, I had to double check. I'm like, that's the name,
- 4:34Speaker 2: isn't it?
- 4:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:34Speaker 2: So last, in the past week on the wonders that
- 4:38Speaker 2: is Netflix, I watched Dog Eat Dog.
- 4:41Speaker 1: Dog Eat Dog.
- 4:43Speaker 2: So like, I usually play the game that I think
- 4:46Speaker 2: everybody plays, which is you get on Netflix and you're like,
- 4:49Speaker 2: that looks kind of interesting. Not right now. hmm, no,
- 4:52Speaker 2: I didn't know that was on here. That's cool. Not
- 4:53Speaker 2: right now. And then like an hour and a half later,
- 4:55Speaker 2: when you could have already watched an entire movie, you're like,
- 4:58Speaker 2: maybe this one. And then I just go to sleep anyway.
- 5:00Speaker 2: So sometimes I will like combat that by knee jerk
- 5:04Speaker 2: reaction of like the first one I get to that's like, huh,
- 5:07Speaker 2: I'll just hit it. I'm just like play. And by
- 5:09Speaker 2: then it's too much trouble to stop it. That was
- 5:11Speaker 2: dog eat dog. It was just like, oh, this looks
- 5:15Speaker 2: like a train wreck that I'm going to enjoy. Because
- 5:18Speaker 2: I did that once or twice in the last year
- 5:21Speaker 2: because like every 15 minutes, Nicolas Cage makes a new movie.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Right.
- 5:25Speaker 2: And it goes right on Netflix because God forbid anybody
- 5:28Speaker 2: wants to watch these things. So this was another... Again,
- 5:34Speaker 2: I thought I couldn't tell exactly what it was by it.
- 5:36Speaker 2: I just kind of... It's Nicolas Cage and Willem Dafoe.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Okay.
- 5:40Speaker 2: And even weirder, once I got into it, like directed
- 5:43Speaker 2: by Paul Schrader. So I'm like, that's... kind of a
- 5:47Speaker 2: big name to be pulled into a silly nicholas cage
- 5:50Speaker 2: movie so i mean it's it's based on a novel
- 5:54Speaker 2: it's like its own by the end i was just
- 5:56Speaker 2: like it's not even like train wreck fun like i've
- 5:59Speaker 2: watched a couple of nicholas cage movies i'm like oh
- 6:01Speaker 2: that was ridiculous and i'm glad i watched it this
- 6:04Speaker 2: wasn't really that this was like that was a bunch
- 6:09Speaker 2: of gangsters doing gangster shit but It replaced gangsters with
- 6:13Speaker 2: bad thieves and wannabe kidnappers. It's just sort of crime drama-ish,
- 6:20Speaker 2: but not compelling crime drama. It is based on a novel,
- 6:25Speaker 2: but it kind of feels like it's based on a
- 6:27Speaker 2: pulpy novel from years ago, which I don't think it's
- 6:29Speaker 2: that old. It feels kind of like a schlocky crime
- 6:34Speaker 2: drama that just happened to get recognizable names attached to it.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Very bizarre. Yes. does that mess with your dreams like
- 6:43Speaker 1: right before you go to sleep is like willem dafoe nicholas.
- 6:46Speaker 2: Cage nothing can be more frightening than him in a
- 6:50Speaker 2: snickers commercial so i mean him dressed in that white
- 6:53Speaker 2: dress is enough to haunt me i don't i don't
- 6:56Speaker 2: think anything although no we do see him like kind
- 6:59Speaker 2: of hooking up with women in this which is a
- 7:02Speaker 2: frightening thing and him getting a weird massage from this woman. Yeah,
- 7:07Speaker 2: it's weird. It's the kind of things I guess Willem
- 7:09Speaker 2: Dafoe would have to do if he wasn't Willem Dafoe.
- 7:11Speaker 5: No offense.
- 7:12Speaker 2: He's a great actor, but he's a weird dude. Out
- 7:15Speaker 2: in the world, he's not bagging chicks. I'm like, yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 2: this is probably the life if you're Willem Dafoe.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Those are two weird looking people.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Two weird looking dudes. And there's a third one that
- 7:23Speaker 2: I don't know. It was Christopher Matthew Cook. It's three guys.
- 7:29Speaker 2: He's the other one. So how do you get to
- 7:31Speaker 2: be the third in that trio? But He's fine. Like,
- 7:34Speaker 2: he does a good job as well. Like, not even
- 7:36Speaker 2: Nicolas Cage is, like, hammy, really. He's normal. Like, he
- 7:40Speaker 2: can turn in great performances and ridiculous performances. This is
- 7:44Speaker 2: just sort of middle of the road for him. Like
- 7:46Speaker 2: I said, it's not even, like, train wreck bad. It's just, huh. Yeah,
- 7:49Speaker 2: that was a movie.
- 7:50Speaker 1: What was that one where he was a wizard?
- 7:54Speaker 2: Season of the Witch. He was fighting witches. No, the
- 7:56Speaker 2: wizard one is Sorcerer's Apprentice? Yeah, yeah. That's the Disney-produced one.
- 8:02Speaker 2: that he's a wizard. I'm pretty sure there's another one
- 8:05Speaker 2: in there, he's probably a wizard. That seems like, you know,
- 8:07Speaker 2: when you got that many.
- 8:08Speaker 1: He was Doctor Strange before Doctor Strange.
- 8:10Speaker 2: You got that many castles to pay off, you're gonna
- 8:12Speaker 2: make a lot of wizard movies along the way, and
- 8:14Speaker 2: they're all gonna end up on Netflix. So, yeah, that
- 8:17Speaker 2: was my recent viewing. Not really steering people away from it,
- 8:23Speaker 2: but I'm not telling you to run to it either.
- 8:25Speaker 2: It's just a movie, and there's some people in it.
- 8:29Speaker 5: Yup.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I re... I don't know what got into me, but
- 8:34Speaker 1: a couple of weeks ago, I decided, I own this movie,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I decided to re-watch King Kong.
- 8:41Speaker 2: Which King Kong?
- 8:42Speaker 1: The more recent, like 2004, whatever. Jack Black.
- 8:48Speaker 2: I was just trying to think, who's the one that
- 8:50Speaker 2: doesn't match in that one?
- 8:51Speaker 1: Yeah, Adrian Brody.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Jack Black.
- 8:54Speaker 2: I was thinking that today because, yeah, one of the
- 8:56Speaker 2: other things I watched had Naomi Watts in it. And
- 8:59Speaker 2: I was like, oh, yeah, why do I know? Oh, yeah,
- 9:01Speaker 2: King Kong.
- 9:02Speaker 1: And The Ring, right? She was in The Ring?
- 9:04Speaker 2: Yes. Yes. Which now they're doing again.
- 9:08Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I was going to address that later in this episode.
- 9:10Speaker 2: We keep coming back to the same turn of the
- 9:14Speaker 2: last century horror movies that made a lot of money.
- 9:17Speaker 2: And they're like, what if we kind of do that again? So, yeah,
- 9:21Speaker 2: now there's a Rings coming out. Not with a Z.
- 9:26Speaker 2: It should be with a Z because it's from the streets. Rings, dog.
- 9:30Speaker 1: Like wing zone.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So what was your take on rewatching of King Kong?
- 9:37Speaker 1: It was really weird to watch like a Hollywood, epic
- 9:43Speaker 1: Hollywood movie. I haven't seen one of those.
- 9:46Speaker 2: I watched those.
- 9:48Speaker 1: Well, it was like.
- 9:49Speaker 2: But I don't mind those. I have an appreciation for
- 9:51Speaker 2: those as much as weird indie movies.
- 9:54Speaker 1: Well, I don't even mean like... like I've, you know,
- 9:56Speaker 1: seen plenty of well Hollywood produced movies this past year,
- 10:00Speaker 1: but this was supposed to be like this epic. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: of course it was quite the epic.
- 10:07Speaker 2: By epic you mean Peter forgot how to edit? Yes. Yes.
- 10:12Speaker 1: And just like the big swelling music and like the
- 10:15Speaker 1: very dramatic performance. I just hadn't seen like this I
- 10:18Speaker 1: don't know, super duper.
- 10:20Speaker 2: That level of cheesy Hollywood business.
- 10:23Speaker 1: Yeah, mainstream. All of the humor is even this cheeky,
- 10:28Speaker 1: I don't know, silly humor.
- 10:31Speaker 2: There's some really good stuff in that. It's not bad
- 10:35Speaker 2: all around.
- 10:35Speaker 1: No, of course not. I was enjoying myself. I didn't
- 10:41Speaker 1: feel compelled to watch it for any other reason than
- 10:46Speaker 1: it felt comfortable watching.
- 10:49Speaker 2: I'm a sucker for that 76. I love the cheesiness
- 10:54Speaker 2: of that one. That's Dino De Laurentiis doing the cheesiest
- 10:58Speaker 2: version of King Kong ever. Old school movie geeks will
- 11:01Speaker 2: burn you at the stake for that because it's the
- 11:04Speaker 2: original or nothing, which don't get me wrong, that one's amazing,
- 11:07Speaker 2: but something about that 76 one is so fun. I'm
- 11:12Speaker 2: just like, I don't care.
- 11:13Speaker 1: I still want to see this Shin Godzilla.
- 11:17Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, we watched the trailer. I remember that looked
- 11:20Speaker 2: pretty cool.
- 11:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and apparently it's, like, really political. Like, the movie
- 11:24Speaker 1: is much more about, like, the politics and, like, you know,
- 11:28Speaker 1: kind of seeing how bureaucracies would handle, like, a major, like,
- 11:32Speaker 1: big-ass lizard.
- 11:35Speaker 2: What do we do when a monster attacks us?
- 11:37Speaker 1: People were really liking Godzilla and Shin Godzilla because he
- 11:40Speaker 1: was just, like, a mean-ass bitch. Again, like, unlike... the
- 11:45Speaker 1: more recent Godzilla where he's kind of a good guy
- 11:48Speaker 1: in there.
- 11:49Speaker 2: I mean, even in the original series, it went back
- 11:52Speaker 2: and forth. It started off like he was the villain
- 11:54Speaker 2: and then eventually he's just a wrestling superhero. I mean,
- 11:58Speaker 2: he should have had a giant Godzilla cape because he
- 12:01Speaker 2: really was by the end. He would just jump in
- 12:04Speaker 2: and save the day for Tokyo, for Mother Monsters, which
- 12:08Speaker 2: is kind of how the last one ended up sort
- 12:10Speaker 2: of being, so... I don't know. I'm still interested to
- 12:13Speaker 2: see it, assuming they come back. They're supposed to be
- 12:16Speaker 2: coming back with another Godzilla. I thought they were, just
- 12:19Speaker 2: because that one made enough money. They're just like, whatever.
- 12:22Speaker 2: Now he's making real movies, so I don't know if
- 12:24Speaker 2: they're going to get.
- 12:25Speaker 1: What's a real movie?
- 12:27Speaker 5: Rogue One.
- 12:29Speaker 2: That was him, I believe.
- 12:33Speaker 1: I remember making that comment about Darth Vader.
- 12:35Speaker 9: Big, similar.
- 12:38Speaker 2: I think he got his timing down a lot better
- 12:40Speaker 2: on Rogue One, so it'll be interesting to see him
- 12:43Speaker 2: come back, assuming they get.
- 12:44Speaker 5: Him to come back.
- 12:44Speaker 2: I thought he was, though. I thought he had a
- 12:47Speaker 2: deal already in the works, so we'll see.
- 12:49Speaker 1: I feel like doing Godzilla, it's not like, that's not
- 12:52Speaker 1: bottom of the barrel stuff.
- 12:53Speaker 2: It's pretty good. Big time. For sci-fi, you know, that's
- 12:57Speaker 2: high end. That's about as big as you're going to get.
- 12:59Speaker 1: Top shelf.
- 13:00Speaker 2: Especially the, well, nobody likes our versions in this country,
- 13:03Speaker 2: but in general, fans overall love Godzilla. Yeah. I'd be
- 13:08Speaker 2: glad to make a Godzilla movie.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Any kind of dinos.
- 13:10Speaker 2: I will gladly make a giant Godzilla movie. It works
- 13:13Speaker 2: for me. And you can come back to Kong in
- 13:16Speaker 2: the near future. Skull Island's right around the corner. I
- 13:20Speaker 2: didn't know. There's another Kong movie coming out, I believe,
- 13:24Speaker 2: this year. Cool. In the near future. Skull Island.
- 13:29Speaker 3: All right.
- 13:29Speaker 2: I don't know who it was. They replaced some of them.
- 13:32Speaker 2: It feels like they could kind of just throw all
- 13:33Speaker 2: those people back in. I'm like, Adrian Brody, yeah, whatever,
- 13:37Speaker 2: good enough. Naomi Watts was pretty good.
- 13:39Speaker 1: I didn't like all those people together. It's like, sure,
- 13:43Speaker 1: Adrian Brody, fine. Sure, Jack Black. Sure, Naomi Watts. I
- 13:46Speaker 1: don't want to see them in a movie together.
- 13:48Speaker 2: I kind of want to see a road movie with
- 13:50Speaker 2: those three. Getting into wacky adventures that may or may
- 13:53Speaker 2: not involve a giant gorilla.
- 13:54Speaker 1: Yeah, if it was a cowboy movie, maybe.
- 13:59Speaker 2: Cowboy Adrian Brody. Something about that seems off, but it
- 14:03Speaker 2: seems like something he'd do. Yeah. He's kind of always.
- 14:06Speaker 1: He's a man in a black hat.
- 14:08Speaker 2: He's kind of always doing something ridiculous, so.
- 14:10Speaker 5: All right.
- 14:12Speaker 2: Maybe we'll take our break now and come back for
- 14:15Speaker 2: this week's movie.
- 14:16Speaker 3: P.S.
- 14:28Speaker 10: I am a witch and I have.
- 14:33Speaker 8: Conjured you for my bidding. And all my charms and
- 14:45Speaker 8: all my accidents.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Are all just instruments to lock you up.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Drink.
- 15:00Speaker 3: A drink. Ice cold.
- 15:04Speaker 1: A drink.
- 15:06Speaker 10: Delicious golden orange ice lollies.
- 15:09Speaker 3: Made from the juice of a whole orange.
- 15:13Speaker 2: Are you a mirage?
- 15:15Speaker 3: Yes, I am.
- 15:17Speaker 10: But golden orange isn't.

- 17:59Speaker 2: You become a milketeer.
- 18:00Speaker 1: Do you get a special decoder ring?
- 18:03Speaker 2: We already sent those out, but those people, nobody cares.
- 18:05Speaker 1: I didn't get a decoder ring.
- 18:07Speaker 5: You're not part of the club.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I'm never part of the club.
- 18:10Speaker 2: You're part of the secret circle, though.
- 18:12Speaker 5: It's okay.
- 18:13Speaker 2: But if you become a milketeer, you can get special
- 18:16Speaker 2: episodes that only come to you. I think you should
- 18:20Speaker 2: do it right now.
- 18:20Speaker 1: Right now?
- 18:21Speaker 5: I'm just saying.
- 18:22Speaker 2: It's maybe a couple of bucks. There's other levels you
- 18:26Speaker 2: can kick in and get fancier. Maybe a couple bucks.
- 18:27Speaker 2: You don't know. Fancier stuff. But really, just a couple
- 18:30Speaker 2: of bucks will keep things rolling. What'll get me a pony?
- 18:35Speaker 2: That's a really high level. I'll have to figure out
- 18:39Speaker 2: exactly what. That's platinum membership right there. That might be
- 18:42Speaker 2: above platinum. We'll have to see. What is above platinum?
- 18:46Speaker 5: Titanium. Titanium.
- 18:48Speaker 3: Really?
- 18:50Speaker 2: Maybe that's a step below.
- 18:51Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 18:52Speaker 5: We'll have to see.
- 18:52Speaker 2: Aluminium level. That's way below.
- 18:56Speaker 1: Not if you say it fancy.
- 18:57Speaker 5: Yeah. Unobtainium.
- 19:00Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 19:03Speaker 5: Good luck with that.
- 19:04Speaker 2: But for the rest of you, go kick in a
- 19:05Speaker 2: couple bucks. Keep the show rolling. Go to patreon.com slash
- 19:09Speaker 2: movie meltdown. And if you don't know how to type
- 19:12Speaker 2: all that in, go to the movie meltdown.com page. And
- 19:14Speaker 2: the link's right there. And you can save this show.
- 19:18Speaker 4: And help me get a pony.
- 19:20Speaker 2: Damn them, man. Save the meltdown.
- 19:22Speaker 5: Get Misty a pony.
- 19:23Speaker 1: Yeah, priorities.
- 19:26Speaker 8: Hi, this is Jess White.
- 19:40Speaker 3: Hi, this is Jess Wexler. You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 19:45Speaker 3: Our movie's The Lie.
- 19:55Speaker 1: And hi, this is Joshua Leonard.
- 19:57Speaker 5: You're listening to Movie Meltdown.
- 19:59Speaker 2: Thanks for being with us today or tonight or whenever
- 20:02Speaker 2: you happen to.
- 20:03Speaker 8: Be listening to this.
- 20:12Speaker 6: The show is about to start, folks, but the refreshment
- 20:15Speaker 6: stand will remain open for your pleasure.
- 20:18Speaker 3: It's time for Sofa Theater. Sofa Theater.
- 20:25Speaker 10: What is that?
- 20:26Speaker 2: The guy who uploaded this video said it was from
- 20:28Speaker 2: a tape he found in the Black Hills woods.
- 20:34Speaker 5: I think that might be my sister.
- 20:39Speaker 10: You really think your sister could still be out there
- 20:41Speaker 10: after all these years?
- 20:42Speaker 2: If there is any chance that I could find out
- 20:44Speaker 2: what happened to her, I need to try.
- 20:48Speaker 3: Legend said there's been a curse on these woods.
- 20:54Speaker 1: Do you believe in the stories about the Blair Witch?
- 20:58Speaker 8: Oh my God.
- 21:05Speaker 3: This looks familiar.
- 21:07Speaker 1: We've been walking in a circle.
- 21:09Speaker 3: No way. They're everywhere. Who could have done this?
- 21:15Speaker 1: You did this?
- 21:28Speaker 3: This way. Come on! There's something out there. We found it!
- 21:44Speaker 2: That's not your sister.
- 21:46Speaker 3: That can't be her.
- 21:46Speaker 1: Come on!
- 21:47Speaker 3: Get in the corner!
- 22:01Speaker 2: I'm so sorry.
- 22:02Speaker 3: It's gonna be okay. We'll be right back.
- 22:53Speaker 9: All right, we are back with this week's movie.
- 23:16Speaker 2: This week's Sofa Theater feature is Blair Witch. The year
- 23:20Speaker 2: is 2016. The director, Adam Wingard. And the plot, do
- 23:24Speaker 2: you want to go with IMDb or do you want
- 23:26Speaker 2: to hear Google read to us?
- 23:28Speaker 1: Google, read to us.
- 23:30Speaker 4: A man and his friends venture into the Black Hills
- 23:32Speaker 4: forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery surrounding his missing sister.
- 23:36Speaker 4: Many believe her disappearance 17 years earlier is connected to
- 23:39Speaker 4: the legend of the Blair Witch. At first, the group
- 23:42Speaker 4: is hopeful, especially when two locals act as guides through
- 23:45Speaker 4: the dark and winding woods. As the night wears on,
- 23:47Speaker 4: a visit from a menacing presence soon makes them realize
- 23:50Speaker 4: that the legend is all too real and more sinister
- 23:52Speaker 4: than they could have ever imagined.
- 23:54Speaker 2: Thank you, Google. That was way better. The one on
- 23:58Speaker 2: IMDb had a weird punctuation issue, and yeah, it had problems.
- 24:02Speaker 2: So that was much better, and with that, spoiler alert,
- 24:05Speaker 2: because we are going to ruin the hell out of this,
- 24:06Speaker 2: and it just showed up on your home viewing systems.
- 24:09Speaker 2: So if you haven't seen it, just telling you now,
- 24:12Speaker 2: we're going to spoil the hell out of it. So...
- 24:16Speaker 2: I'm interested to see your take on this since you
- 24:20Speaker 2: were already leading as we didn't start talking about it
- 24:23Speaker 2: with not overwhelmingly positive thoughts.
- 24:27Speaker 1: No, I definitely do not have overwhelmingly positive thoughts. There
- 24:32Speaker 1: are several things that I like about this movie and
- 24:36Speaker 1: I wrote all of those down, but the list of
- 24:39Speaker 1: things that I didn't like about this movie is much longer.
- 24:44Speaker 2: I don't think I had that I don't think I
- 24:47Speaker 2: had that big a problem with it. But again, I
- 24:50Speaker 2: always try to put them in context and look at
- 24:52Speaker 2: them as what they are and how they got made
- 24:55Speaker 2: and what they're trying to do.
- 24:56Speaker 3: So I.
- 24:59Speaker 2: Will say I don't I don't I wouldn't say I
- 25:02Speaker 2: dislike it. I think it's a pretty decent modern horror movie.
- 25:07Speaker 2: What it isn't is the Blair Witch Project. The Blair
- 25:10Speaker 2: Witch Project was a game changer. Like it completely turned
- 25:15Speaker 2: the tables on the entire horror system at that time.
- 25:18Speaker 2: It used an entire new medium to promote itself and
- 25:23Speaker 2: to kind of like dupe the American public. And it
- 25:26Speaker 2: was like bonus points on that end. But on top
- 25:29Speaker 2: of that, it's also an amazing movie just as a
- 25:33Speaker 2: separate film that what it's doing was so unconventional that
- 25:38Speaker 2: it's just impressive as a film on top of that.
- 25:42Speaker 2: This doesn't really do those things.
- 25:45Speaker 1: No. And if they had just come out with another
- 25:50Speaker 1: Blair Witch Project, an updated Blair Witch Project, almost even
- 25:55Speaker 1: shot for shot, I probably would have loved it still.
- 25:58Speaker 1: But The things that they changed about the timing of
- 26:04Speaker 1: the movie, the production, the acting, of course, the jump scares,
- 26:14Speaker 1: of which there are billions.
- 26:16Speaker 2: A lot of jump scares.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And in the original, you didn't have that. It was
- 26:22Speaker 1: like you heard maybe a stick break in the distance.
- 26:25Speaker 1: And they go, who is that? And that was it.
- 26:28Speaker 2: It was creepy. And there were a couple of moments
- 26:31Speaker 2: where it was like out of control scariness. Yeah. But
- 26:35Speaker 2: it still wasn't ever jump scare. It was, oh, fuck,
- 26:38Speaker 2: what's going on? It was a lot more of like,
- 26:41Speaker 2: what are we in the middle of right now?
- 26:43Speaker 1: And sometimes those were contained. And it was like, okay,
- 26:46Speaker 1: things are out of control. Things are out of control.
- 26:48Speaker 1: And then it would calm back down and become a
- 26:50Speaker 1: little mundane again. And this one, it was like, boom, crash, scream.
- 26:56Speaker 3: Ashley! Ashley!
- 26:58Speaker 2: It just hits the halfway point.
- 27:01Speaker 1: Not even the halfway point. I felt like there was
- 27:05Speaker 1: maybe 20 or 30 minutes of the build up and
- 27:10Speaker 1: then the rest of the movie was this spiral.
- 27:13Speaker 2: I feel like going back, I watched it again today
- 27:15Speaker 2: and I was like, I think there is a turning
- 27:18Speaker 2: point in it. I kind of don't want to address
- 27:21Speaker 2: that yet. I want to get into what... Because to
- 27:24Speaker 2: To touch on the original, I also will still make
- 27:27Speaker 2: that joke all the time. Anytime you're looking for somebody
- 27:30Speaker 2: or lost or whatever, at any point I'm probably going
- 27:33Speaker 2: to yell out, Josh! Because that's half of the original
- 27:38Speaker 2: movie is them screaming Josh. So yeah, Ashley becomes the
- 27:44Speaker 2: new Josh. In that sense, anyway. I think I wouldn't
- 27:52Speaker 2: have been happy had they done a remake. And this
- 27:55Speaker 2: is funny because you were there for this previous discussion.
- 27:59Speaker 2: I feel like as I get into it, I kept
- 28:02Speaker 2: making these same little connections that I did with Star Wars.
- 28:06Speaker 2: Probably more than anything, The Force Awakens. Because I'm like,
- 28:11Speaker 2: it's kind of trying to do both things. It wants
- 28:15Speaker 2: to be a sequel, but it's been so long, it's
- 28:18Speaker 2: kind of got to go back and hit all the
- 28:20Speaker 2: points that the original did. to bring in people who
- 28:23Speaker 2: weren't there for the original because anytime they make a movie,
- 28:26Speaker 2: specifically a horror movie now, they're always trying to bring
- 28:29Speaker 2: in the kids. They're always trying to bring in what's
- 28:30Speaker 2: going to bring in the teen audience because that's where
- 28:32Speaker 2: money comes from in horror movies is if you get
- 28:35Speaker 2: a big enough response, you bring in all the teenagers
- 28:37Speaker 2: that weekend and you get your opening weekend and then
- 28:40Speaker 2: two weeks later you're gone because that's how every movie works.
- 28:42Speaker 2: So if you don't get that huge opening weekend, if
- 28:44Speaker 2: you don't bring in the young demographic, you don't make
- 28:47Speaker 2: your money back. So, I feel like they're definitely playing
- 28:50Speaker 2: that game where there's so many times when they're like, hey,
- 28:54Speaker 2: remember that story? Some of you probably heard before. We're
- 28:57Speaker 2: going to tell it again. So it's like they still
- 28:59Speaker 2: kind of got to mention a coffin rock and they
- 29:02Speaker 2: got to make mention of the old guy in the
- 29:04Speaker 2: house killing kids. And it's like, if you're around the
- 29:07Speaker 2: first time, you know these stories already and you heard
- 29:09Speaker 2: them already told and better the first time. But they
- 29:12Speaker 2: still kind of have to hit those little plot points
- 29:15Speaker 2: of like, okay, we got to get this in. assuming
- 29:17Speaker 2: a lot of kids haven't watched an ancient movie from 1999,
- 29:21Speaker 2: that's old and lame. We're not going to watch that.
- 29:23Speaker 2: So it's like, we're watching this new movie. So we've
- 29:26Speaker 2: got to get all those like plot points worked in
- 29:29Speaker 2: there along the way. But at the same time, we
- 29:32Speaker 2: want to do new stuff too. So it's like, I
- 29:35Speaker 2: feel like it was that same thing. It was like,
- 29:36Speaker 2: it's that same thing they're trying to do going into
- 29:39Speaker 2: force awakens is we don't want to be a straight
- 29:41Speaker 2: up remake shot for shot but we kind of have
- 29:44Speaker 2: to reboot the franchise or at least to make this
- 29:48Speaker 2: story work we have to bring people in on the
- 29:51Speaker 2: things that were going on in the last one but
- 29:53Speaker 2: still not completely retread it and be the exact same
- 29:56Speaker 2: movie which And you think that sometimes it falls into
- 30:00Speaker 2: that trap.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Trying to tie it to the original, like kind of
- 30:04Speaker 1: bogged down the movie or like held it back in
- 30:06Speaker 1: some ways.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I like the idea. Again, I don't want a shot
- 30:09Speaker 2: for shot remake because I always say like, I don't
- 30:11Speaker 2: know what there is to do with that. Like, I
- 30:13Speaker 2: feel like I'd much rather you take the basic concept
- 30:16Speaker 2: and go do your own thing. And there's moments when
- 30:18Speaker 2: they do that. Like, I do kind of like the
- 30:20Speaker 2: fact that it's not like if it were just random
- 30:23Speaker 2: kids back out in the woods. But the fact that
- 30:25Speaker 2: Heather has a little brother.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 30:27Speaker 2: And he grew up with her being gone all this time. So, like,
- 30:31Speaker 2: it does make sense he would be like, I want
- 30:32Speaker 2: to know what the hell happened to her.
- 30:33Speaker 1: Yeah, the premise is good, for sure.
- 30:35Speaker 2: Like, maybe you wouldn't go wander out in the woods, but, like,
- 30:37Speaker 2: he would spend your whole life kind of, like, messed
- 30:39Speaker 2: up about the fact that your sister disappeared.
- 30:42Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:42Speaker 2: Was kidnapped or murdered or God only knows. Yeah, they
- 30:45Speaker 2: created a.
- 30:46Speaker 1: Great, like, reason for them to go back into those woods.
- 30:51Speaker 2: And the other thing I was going to say is
- 30:53Speaker 2: it's only been... 17 years or so, but in that time,
- 30:58Speaker 2: technology is so different. So in that short span of time,
- 31:04Speaker 2: all the new stuff that I'm like, okay, you really
- 31:06Speaker 2: can make almost from a technical standpoint, an entirely different
- 31:09Speaker 2: movie because tiny cameras now versus that giant film camera
- 31:15Speaker 2: that Josh is lugging around. Yeah.
- 31:17Speaker 1: Um, I feel like they could have done, um, they
- 31:21Speaker 1: could have done that, but I mean, I liked that
- 31:24Speaker 1: they used the drone, um, The drone was interesting. I
- 31:26Speaker 1: haven't seen that in any found footage so far, and
- 31:29Speaker 1: that doesn't make sense to me.
- 31:30Speaker 2: And it seems like, yeah, it seems like it would
- 31:32Speaker 2: have been the first thing they all jumped on, because
- 31:34Speaker 2: I'm sure they're using it for their helicopter shots anyway.
- 31:36Speaker 2: So you think they just work it into the plot
- 31:38Speaker 2: like they do.
- 31:39Speaker 1: And having the little tiny cameras on the ears, so
- 31:43Speaker 1: it could be point of view.
- 31:45Speaker 2: And that actually makes it, this is maybe the first
- 31:49Speaker 2: found footage movie that I'm like, okay, it almost makes
- 31:51Speaker 2: sense why we have all this footage. Because every other one,
- 31:55Speaker 2: there's so many that I'm like, this is stupid that
- 31:57Speaker 2: you're still filming. That you're still holding a camera up
- 32:00Speaker 2: to your face trying to shoot coverage of everything.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Cloverfield.
- 32:06Speaker 2: What's the freaking superhero one? That one makes no sense.
- 32:10Speaker 1: What's it called? I know what you're talking about.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Fuck, what is that one? This is why my brain
- 32:17Speaker 2: locks up now.
- 32:18Speaker 7: It's useless.
- 32:19Speaker 1: I like that in that movie, though, they used some
- 32:21Speaker 1: interesting things like traffic cams and stuff like that.
- 32:25Speaker 2: But again, that's the part I feel like, okay, you're
- 32:27Speaker 2: really reaching now. Because I'm like, who's piecing all this together?
- 32:31Speaker 2: Who got the okay from the quickie mart to go
- 32:33Speaker 2: get their camera from behind the counter when somebody smashed
- 32:37Speaker 2: through the building? It seems really far-fetched that all this
- 32:40Speaker 2: got pieced together into one thing. Where at least in this,
- 32:43Speaker 2: it's like, as long as those cameras are on, they're
- 32:46Speaker 2: on your head, they're running... They're readjusting themselves so they
- 32:50Speaker 2: can see. Some of them have lights built in. And
- 32:52Speaker 2: everything you are looking at to react to, the camera's
- 32:55Speaker 2: picking up. So, like, for once, like, granted, it got
- 32:58Speaker 2: all edited together. But with the exception of that, which
- 33:01Speaker 2: still kind of seemed weird even in the original Blair Witch.
- 33:03Speaker 2: It's like, who the hell added to this thing?
- 33:05Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 33:05Speaker 2: And put it in a log. But, yes, I mean,
- 33:09Speaker 2: this is kind of that same thing. But for the
- 33:11Speaker 2: most part, everything else makes sense why we're at least
- 33:13Speaker 2: seeing all these things. Because it's truly POV. We really
- 33:17Speaker 2: are getting this thing attached to their head. And it
- 33:19Speaker 2: doesn't make sense that you would hold a camera up
- 33:21Speaker 2: while you're trying to not die. But when it's stuck
- 33:24Speaker 2: on your ear, you're not going to know the difference.
- 33:26Speaker 2: You're just trying to run away from whatever monster is
- 33:28Speaker 2: coming after you. So from that aspect, I kind of
- 33:31Speaker 2: like the new technological improvements. We've changed it so that
- 33:35Speaker 2: there is almost a reason to go back out there.
- 33:38Speaker 2: Plus the other huge one was GPS. I mean, it
- 33:42Speaker 2: existed that far back in the military, but not everybody
- 33:45Speaker 2: had it on them all day long like we do now.
- 33:47Speaker 2: So in that short span of time, like now it's not,
- 33:51Speaker 2: let's spend 45 minutes talking about the map. Like they're
- 33:54Speaker 2: logged into a GPS system. Like they should never have
- 33:57Speaker 2: to worry about getting lost. So that makes it extra
- 34:00Speaker 2: weird when that stuff happens. I mean, to me, like
- 34:03Speaker 2: people can't follow a map anyway, normally, but like when
- 34:05Speaker 2: you're logged into GPS and following through, like it, it
- 34:10Speaker 2: upped the ante of like, okay, you guys are set.
- 34:12Speaker 2: Like you don't have anything to worry about and they
- 34:15Speaker 2: still are the first, like get thrown into a nightmare.
- 34:18Speaker 2: So it's like, that stuff is kind of cool to
- 34:21Speaker 2: get piled on there. I don't know. I, it, I
- 34:25Speaker 2: think where it goes wrong is that same thing. It's
- 34:27Speaker 2: like it's not breaking any new ground.
- 34:30Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 34:30Speaker 2: With the exception of the new additional stuff from 17 years.
- 34:34Speaker 2: But I'm like, as far as what they're trying to do,
- 34:37Speaker 2: I don't think they connect the way that they're supposed to.
- 34:40Speaker 2: And this is what I was trying to figure out today.
- 34:42Speaker 2: And I wanted to see what your take on it was.
- 34:44Speaker 2: Because in rewatching it, I'm like, because when I watched
- 34:47Speaker 2: it the first time, I was like, well, it was fine.
- 34:51Speaker 2: But I'm like, I think the difference was for me
- 34:52Speaker 2: that initial time was like, I just didn't feel connected
- 34:56Speaker 2: yeah and i'm like by the end of that like
- 34:59Speaker 2: you felt so connected to like heather and mike and
- 35:03Speaker 2: josh are like people you know like yeah in that
- 35:06Speaker 2: same span of time and i'm like well i guess
- 35:09Speaker 2: we logged in a good amount of time with them
- 35:10Speaker 2: and i'm watching the the new one the second time
- 35:13Speaker 2: through and i'm like we spend a lot of time
- 35:15Speaker 2: with them so i'm like we we get them hanging
- 35:18Speaker 2: out at the house talking, playing video games. We got
- 35:21Speaker 2: them going to a bar. We've got them like antics
- 35:23Speaker 2: in the hotel room. We've got hanging around the campfire.
- 35:26Speaker 2: All this is really before anything gets going. So we've
- 35:29Speaker 2: logged in like 20 minutes or more of these people
- 35:32Speaker 2: just being themselves. So why is it we don't feel connected?
- 35:37Speaker 1: Well, I didn't like the characters. So I think it's
- 35:43Speaker 1: like part of that. And I felt like a lot of,
- 35:47Speaker 1: It was very overacted by most of them. Peter... Peter was.
- 35:55Speaker 2: Just kind of a dick. Peter was kind of a dick.
- 35:57Speaker 1: But him being a dick and being hostile was like,
- 36:02Speaker 1: I feel you a little bit more.
- 36:04Speaker 2: Somebody was going to do that. So you kind of
- 36:07Speaker 2: assume in a group of people, somebody's going to... Especially
- 36:09Speaker 2: when you're under that much duress. Somebody's going to snap
- 36:12Speaker 2: a little and be like, dude, I'm going to kick
- 36:13Speaker 2: your ass.
- 36:14Speaker 1: And I think because... I felt like the overacting took
- 36:17Speaker 1: me out of these are just mundane, everyday people that
- 36:22Speaker 1: I'm connecting to. It's not just that they're, like, playing
- 36:25Speaker 1: video games and, like, having a good time. It's, like,
- 36:27Speaker 1: they're playing video games and having a good time. And, like,
- 36:29Speaker 1: they have, like, this very, like, scripted, overacted dialogue that
- 36:33Speaker 1: I was like, I can't. You're taking me out of it. Like,
- 36:36Speaker 1: I can't.
- 36:37Speaker 2: That is a difference, I guess, because this one was
- 36:40Speaker 2: 100% scripted. Blair Witch Project was not. It was a
- 36:45Speaker 2: lot of, you guys go wander around in the woods.
- 36:48Speaker 2: We're going to keep the camera rolling. Go make up
- 36:52Speaker 2: some dialogue. A lot of that, them bored sitting next
- 36:55Speaker 2: to a tree was just whatever they said next. I
- 36:59Speaker 2: guess it would have to have a little more natural
- 37:01Speaker 2: feel to their creating a relationship.
- 37:04Speaker 9: Of course.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And these, you know, in this one, they're like looking for,
- 37:08Speaker 1: like they're trying to solve a mystery.
- 37:10Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 37:11Speaker 1: So they can't be totally like, we're just.
- 37:15Speaker 2: Hanging out in the woods. I mean, they were kind
- 37:17Speaker 2: of doing that. It was not a specific mystery. It
- 37:19Speaker 2: was more of a general overview, tell the story kind
- 37:23Speaker 2: of mystery.
- 37:23Speaker 1: But not like I'm looking for my sister. I'm going
- 37:26Speaker 1: to talk about my sister. We're going to have these
- 37:28Speaker 1: private conversations and. And it's going to be kind of emotional.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Well, not a beat for beat. Like, where did you
- 37:34Speaker 2: find the footage? Where did she go next? It was
- 37:37Speaker 2: actually them trying to piece down exactly what happened to
- 37:40Speaker 2: her versus the, hey, you guys ever heard about that witch?
- 37:43Speaker 2: It was a way more general broad thing.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like going and looking for the boogeyman is
- 37:48Speaker 1: the first one. And this one's... Where's my sister?
- 37:51Speaker 2: Yeah. Without my daughter. Climb under the bed. They've kidnapped her.
- 37:54Speaker 4: Okay.
- 37:58Speaker 2: See, I was kind of surprised. The fact that I
- 38:00Speaker 2: didn't hate any of them, really. Because usually in slasher
- 38:05Speaker 2: horror movies in general, like the teens out in the scene,
- 38:09Speaker 2: like hanging out in the woods are obnoxious.
- 38:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 38:12Speaker 2: And I'm like, this is when I'm trying to decide
- 38:14Speaker 2: if this is where we're going, because I felt like
- 38:17Speaker 2: they're almost so generic. because they're trying not to be offensive. Yeah.
- 38:23Speaker 2: Like 80s slasher teens are just freaking obnoxious. All they
- 38:27Speaker 2: do is have sex and do drugs and get drunk
- 38:29Speaker 2: and are just obnoxious all day long. And you can't
- 38:31Speaker 2: wait for them to die. Like in this new post
- 38:35Speaker 2: 2000s era, which is odd because that's also coming off
- 38:38Speaker 2: of Blair Witch Project. But like, cause I kept saying
- 38:41Speaker 2: that about those weird remakes of the other reboots of
- 38:44Speaker 2: like Friday the 13th, especially Nightmare on Elm Street. Like
- 38:48Speaker 2: those kids are, Are so generic and kind of forgettable.
- 38:52Speaker 2: And like they don't have any of that. Like I
- 38:55Speaker 2: called Nightmare out on that specifically. Like none of those kids.
- 38:58Speaker 2: Like not only do they not have sex. They don't
- 39:00Speaker 2: even seem like they interact like normal humans. Yeah. And
- 39:03Speaker 2: I'm like this was not quite that bad. But like
- 39:06Speaker 2: they didn't act like normal kids out in the woods.
- 39:09Speaker 2: Even if they were there on a mission. Like they
- 39:11Speaker 2: were so professional. They were so business like.
- 39:14Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 39:15Speaker 1: And I'm like.
- 39:16Speaker 2: And they never even address, like, the one is a couple,
- 39:20Speaker 2: but the other two, like, there's that half second of them, like, no,
- 39:23Speaker 2: we're not, together. But I'm like, that should have, to
- 39:26Speaker 2: have some sort of real world aspect, there should have
- 39:30Speaker 2: been a moment of them like, so what's going on?
- 39:33Speaker 2: You got your own tent, right? So we're not, there
- 39:34Speaker 2: should have been a little more of them. Cause obviously
- 39:37Speaker 2: they spend a lot of time together and they're a
- 39:39Speaker 2: guy and a girl. And eventually you're going to get
- 39:40Speaker 2: to that. Like, so we're not okay. Good. You know,
- 39:43Speaker 2: like you'd either spell it out or it would be like,
- 39:46Speaker 2: it's just so not addressed. And then it's like, they
- 39:48Speaker 2: make that one offhand comment in the middle of things
- 39:51Speaker 2: going wrong that I'm like, almost as them trying to
- 39:54Speaker 2: address it. And then they never come back to it again.
- 39:56Speaker 2: And I'm like, that's just not really how people work.
- 39:59Speaker 2: Like that's not realistic. That's very strange that like they,
- 40:02Speaker 2: they never really decide. Cause even then we get that
- 40:05Speaker 2: comment of like, you, you can stay here in my
- 40:07Speaker 2: tent if you want. And I'm just like, all right,
- 40:09Speaker 2: for a second, you seem kind of like a person
- 40:11Speaker 2: at least. And then they come back and nothing ever
- 40:14Speaker 2: comes up. I'm like, okay, now it's just a weird
- 40:16Speaker 2: offhand comment. Like you're not, nothing's going anywhere. Nothing's progressing
- 40:21Speaker 2: as relationships in real world related, like not even dealing
- 40:25Speaker 2: with a witch relationships, just the way relationships interact and
- 40:29Speaker 2: people interact and all of that. I don't know. That is,
- 40:32Speaker 2: I think the part that kind of leaves you, little
- 40:35Speaker 2: cold about this whole group of kids as they were
- 40:38Speaker 2: who were probably pushing 30 yeah but still kids in
- 40:43Speaker 2: quotes yeah so i don't know i think that was
- 40:46Speaker 2: where i ended up on it it's like i i
- 40:48Speaker 2: think there's something so genuine about those original three the
- 40:51Speaker 2: first time out and we don't really get that this
- 40:54Speaker 2: time yeah.
- 40:55Speaker 1: That's kind of how it was for me with paranormal
- 40:58Speaker 1: activity too Like, not two, not the number two.
- 41:01Speaker 8: Also.
- 41:01Speaker 1: Paranormal activity also.
- 41:04Speaker 2: In addition to.
- 41:05Speaker 1: Yeah. What's the, Mika and, I don't remember, Katie.
- 41:09Speaker 4: I think.
- 41:10Speaker 2: I'm so, like, I said, it's funny because I was
- 41:12Speaker 2: going to reference them as we go along here, but
- 41:15Speaker 2: I'm like, there's so many of those I haven't watched. Yeah. Like,
- 41:18Speaker 2: there's so many paranormal activities and insidiouses and, like, all
- 41:21Speaker 2: the ones. Just the first one.
- 41:23Speaker 1: Paranormal activity one.
- 41:24Speaker 2: But they all, like, they came out on the heels of.
- 41:27Speaker 2: Blair Witch Project and they were all like whether they
- 41:30Speaker 2: were found footage or not a lot of them were
- 41:31Speaker 2: just like we can take a real simple premise we
- 41:34Speaker 2: can take a pretty cheap budget and we can put
- 41:36Speaker 2: some genuine scares in there and we can have a
- 41:38Speaker 2: successful movie and you watch Paranormal Activities the first one
- 41:42Speaker 2: that even got close to doing what Blair Witch did
- 41:45Speaker 2: and made a fortune doing it and so it's like
- 41:47Speaker 2: you see them kind of in a different direction still
- 41:51Speaker 2: trying to mimic the idea of the that general concept
- 41:54Speaker 2: of what they did on Blair Witch Project.
- 41:56Speaker 1: Yeah, and I thought that that couple was, like, genuine.
- 42:00Speaker 1: And I thought, I was like, I know these people.
- 42:02Speaker 1: They're making jokes that I would make at home. They're, like,
- 42:05Speaker 1: you know, bickering in a way that I would bicker
- 42:08Speaker 1: with my partner. Like, they had just, like, a really,
- 42:11Speaker 1: you know, subtle... They had tiny personalities instead of big,
- 42:17Speaker 1: you know... written personalities.
- 42:19Speaker 2: The one I just remember that I thought like both
- 42:22Speaker 2: times the very first time I watched it I was
- 42:23Speaker 2: like here's the part that seems really disingenuous in this
- 42:28Speaker 2: in this circumstance once we get away from the normal
- 42:31Speaker 2: goings on of them being a group of people And
- 42:35Speaker 2: we get into the shit. Like seriously, there's that halfway
- 42:39Speaker 2: turning point. And shit is going down. And nobody's going, wait,
- 42:44Speaker 2: what the fuck's going on? Like somebody needs to be going,
- 42:48Speaker 2: what just happened? Because some crazy stuff is happening at
- 42:53Speaker 2: that point. And nobody's addressing it. They're all just like.
- 42:57Speaker 2: Are you okay? Where's Ashley? What are we doing next?
- 42:59Speaker 2: I'm like, no, no, no, no. Somebody needs to be
- 43:01Speaker 2: dealing with what you just saw because that's a huge
- 43:05Speaker 2: thing in this movie is you actually see everything that's
- 43:08Speaker 2: going on.
- 43:09Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 43:09Speaker 1: It's not just like kind of subtle, hidden. You'll hear
- 43:13Speaker 1: a noise off in the distance and you'll think, oh,
- 43:15Speaker 1: maybe I see something for half a second. No, you
- 43:18Speaker 1: see things.
- 43:19Speaker 2: That's one of the main things I was going to
- 43:22Speaker 2: go to. So I guess because we're leading into it,
- 43:24Speaker 2: like to me, that's the difference. main difference between this
- 43:28Speaker 2: and Blair Witch Project and where we hit that weird
- 43:31Speaker 2: turning point because I feel like even up until halfway
- 43:35Speaker 2: in like until Basically, until the second time the stick
- 43:40Speaker 2: figures show up again. Right, yeah.
- 43:41Speaker 1: And that's, like, the turning point. That's the turning point.
- 43:43Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 43:44Speaker 2: But that's, I mean, in a way, like, that scene
- 43:46Speaker 2: is kind of awesome. Like, that may be my favorite
- 43:48Speaker 2: scene in the entire movie. That voodoo doll getting crushed.
- 43:50Speaker 2: The her breaking the stick person. That was a big one. Again, that's, like,
- 43:55Speaker 2: the best thing in the movie. I think that reaction there.
- 43:57Speaker 1: That imagery.
- 43:58Speaker 2: And because you did not see that coming because we
- 44:01Speaker 2: never had any indication that they're like, if they would
- 44:03Speaker 2: have set it up, but like, there's that half second
- 44:05Speaker 2: of her going, this, this, this is my hair. This
- 44:07Speaker 2: is my hair. She grabs it. I'm like, oh shit.
- 44:10Speaker 2: Like that's the, like there should be 45 minutes of
- 44:13Speaker 2: somebody like. just rocking back and forth going, what just happened?
- 44:16Speaker 2: What just happened? What just happened? And we don't get
- 44:18Speaker 2: any of that. Like two minutes later, they're like, where's
- 44:20Speaker 2: our flashlight? Let's go over here by this tree. Like
- 44:22Speaker 2: they're very like freaked out, but still not the level
- 44:25Speaker 2: of freaked out they need to be having just witnessed that.
- 44:28Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 44:29Speaker 2: But that I think is the major difference is because
- 44:32Speaker 2: everything that goes on in Blair Witch Project is, is
- 44:36Speaker 2: all still, as far as we the viewer know, real world. Like,
- 44:40Speaker 2: there is not really anything supernatural that we ever see. Yeah.
- 44:44Speaker 2: You hear creepy stuff, you see them react to things
- 44:48Speaker 2: that might be supernatural, maybe, if you want to buy that.
- 44:52Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 44:53Speaker 2: But even, and by the end, it's still sort of like,
- 44:55Speaker 2: what's your take on what happens anyway? Which, if You
- 45:00Speaker 2: go down one road that was kind of the one
- 45:02Speaker 2: I settled on. It's kind of a halfway step. And
- 45:05Speaker 2: in that step, nothing actual supernatural really happens in Blair
- 45:10Speaker 2: Witch Project. This one, like from that point on, like
- 45:13Speaker 2: you watch the girl get snapped in half. The tent
- 45:16Speaker 2: flies up into the air. I'm like, you're physically watching
- 45:19Speaker 2: paranormal things take place. And I'm like, okay. we can't
- 45:23Speaker 2: play that game anymore it's not did something happen didn't
- 45:25Speaker 2: it we as the viewers at home in the theater
- 45:28Speaker 2: whatever just watched things happen yeah so now it is
- 45:32Speaker 2: a paranormal story like it is it takes that turn
- 45:36Speaker 2: so much so that by the end there's monsters chasing
- 45:38Speaker 2: them literally there's creepy figures hiding behind a tree there's
- 45:42Speaker 2: a monster running around a corner like it is definitely
- 45:46Speaker 2: a haunted house story by the end of it.
- 45:48Speaker 1: Yeah. And the house is all paranormal in and of itself.
- 45:52Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:53Speaker 1: The house changes with the people in it.
- 45:56Speaker 2: So much so that the very end when they're in
- 45:59Speaker 2: that last room in the attic where the lights, I'm like,
- 46:03Speaker 2: What was that, UFO lights? We took a different paranormal
- 46:07Speaker 2: turn for us. I was like, what road are we
- 46:09Speaker 2: going down now?
- 46:11Speaker 1: It could be UFO.
- 46:12Speaker 2: It could have been giant ghosts. We don't know.
- 46:15Speaker 1: It could have been rescue lights. It could have been
- 46:16Speaker 1: the drone. It could have been.
- 46:19Speaker 2: That was a big light. Could be a helicopter.
- 46:21Speaker 1: Yeah, helicopter.
- 46:22Speaker 2: Search helicopter. Why was nobody looking for them?
- 46:25Speaker 1: Maybe it was the Blair Witch turning it into Dave.
- 46:28Speaker 1: again because you know she has the ability to do that.
- 46:33Speaker 2: But then it went away again so i i don't
- 46:35Speaker 2: know like but that level of of real and i
- 46:39Speaker 2: real world in the fictional film world but in the
- 46:42Speaker 2: real world of these characters you physically see things happen
- 46:45Speaker 2: there's no denying it for you the viewer or these
- 46:48Speaker 2: characters anymore where so much of blair witch project is
- 46:52Speaker 2: what just happened? Like literally the characters themselves are sitting
- 46:55Speaker 2: there going, what the hell did we do? Cause there's
- 46:58Speaker 2: never really like, everything's just weird and creepy, but it's
- 47:02Speaker 2: all the kind of stuff that people could have done.
- 47:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 47:04Speaker 2: Like it doesn't ever.
- 47:05Speaker 1: And that's what makes it terrifying.
- 47:06Speaker 2: And by the end, even the really creepy stuff is like,
- 47:11Speaker 2: still not really supernatural. It could have been acted upon
- 47:15Speaker 2: by a supernatural forces, which again is what the backstory is.
- 47:19Speaker 2: It's like, everything is based around the witch, uh, then
- 47:22Speaker 2: forcing people to do things. But we don't get that here.
- 47:25Speaker 2: We still have that kind of coming into play by
- 47:28Speaker 2: the end, but there's very definite witch moving shit around, physical,
- 47:34Speaker 2: paranormal stuff going on. So I don't know. That's a
- 47:36Speaker 2: huge difference to me.
- 47:38Speaker 1: Yeah, it is, because in the Blair Witch Project, you
- 47:41Speaker 1: had to, your imagination filled in the gaps.
- 47:44Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 47:44Speaker 1: And you had to use your imagination so that when
- 47:46Speaker 1: you were back at home, you heard a little something, you'd.
- 47:49Speaker 4: Be like, what's that?
- 47:50Speaker 1: Blair Witch. Oh my God. But in this movie, it's like,
- 47:55Speaker 1: you know, Ashley, Ashley.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Kick that map in the creek. How many times I've
- 48:04Speaker 2: said that since 1999. But yeah.
- 48:08Speaker 1: And in, in Blair Witch, you don't have to use
- 48:11Speaker 1: your imagination. It's all spelled out very deliberately for you.
- 48:15Speaker 2: Again, is what I'm thinking. And that's kind of why
- 48:17Speaker 2: I was like, by the end, I'm like, To jump
- 48:20Speaker 2: back to my original point, I don't think it's a
- 48:21Speaker 2: terrible modern horror movie. I feel like it's in response
- 48:26Speaker 2: to all the things that have come since 1999. Paranormal
- 48:30Speaker 2: Activity is playing with that same thing, but by the end,
- 48:34Speaker 2: you see paranormal things.
- 48:36Speaker 1: You see paranormal things you don't see... any you don't
- 48:39Speaker 1: see the actual thing I mean in later ones you
- 48:41Speaker 1: do because.
- 48:42Speaker 2: But again it's like it's all building in each one
- 48:45Speaker 2: of these insidious and what's all the exorcism movies like
- 48:49Speaker 2: eventually you start seeing weird stuff physically happen in front
- 48:53Speaker 2: of your face and I'm like that's kind of what
- 48:55Speaker 2: they're competing with like and thing is I really like
- 48:59Speaker 2: Adam Wingard as a director like his last couple movies
- 49:02Speaker 2: have been amazing like your next is one of the
- 49:05Speaker 2: best horror movies I've seen period in general ever maybe
- 49:09Speaker 2: it's like it's amazing what else the guest was.
- 49:13Speaker 1: Really good yeah uh grave encounters let's.
- 49:17Speaker 2: See that one i thought i know if you go
- 49:18Speaker 2: back far enough um Popsco, and then he's on all
- 49:24Speaker 2: the other little groups of them. I think he did
- 49:25Speaker 2: Grave Encounters. VHS 1 and 2, he's got a segment.
- 49:29Speaker 2: ABCs of Death, but I don't like most of those.
- 49:32Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 49:32Speaker 2: I don't know. No, his was just silly, if I remember.
- 49:36Speaker 2: I think they were just screwing around on that one. But, again,
- 49:38Speaker 2: he's just... He's a great director, and he's got that
- 49:41Speaker 2: great group of friends, and he can put together really good,
- 49:44Speaker 2: creepy movies. Yeah. And I still think this works. Like,
- 49:48Speaker 2: on that level, I think as... But not compared to
- 49:51Speaker 2: his other ones. Like, I feel like it's not as
- 49:53Speaker 2: good as everything else I've seen him do lately, but...
- 49:57Speaker 2: compared to all the other schlocky movies that come out
- 50:00Speaker 2: and you know go in the theater for a week
- 50:02Speaker 2: and then end up on netflix i'm like it's better
- 50:04Speaker 2: than most of those like i still find a lot
- 50:06Speaker 2: of stuff i mean it's.
- 50:07Speaker 1: Not a zero out of ten yeah i.
- 50:09Speaker 2: Thought the i think it's very effective for a normal
- 50:12Speaker 2: modern horror movie that's coming out right now again there's
- 50:15Speaker 2: new ones cranked out every week on netflix and like
- 50:18Speaker 2: i feel like it's better than most of those but
- 50:21Speaker 2: it comparing it to his weather work comparing it to
- 50:24Speaker 2: blair which project like it it it has to pale
- 50:27Speaker 2: in comparison even to his other stuff.
- 50:30Speaker 1: I think it pales in comparison to a lot of
- 50:31Speaker 1: other like modern horror movies too.
- 50:34Speaker 2: Even of, again, I feel like it's competing more with
- 50:38Speaker 2: the run of the mill stuff.
- 50:39Speaker 1: Run of the mill stuff.
- 50:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 50:41Speaker 1: Well, I mean, what else came out this year? Don't,
- 50:45Speaker 1: Don't scream or whatever.
- 50:47Speaker 2: Don't breathe?
- 50:48Speaker 1: Don't breathe, yeah.
- 50:48Speaker 2: I just watched that recently.
- 50:49Speaker 1: That's pretty good.
- 50:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, that's... If we're comparing it to that, yeah,
- 50:53Speaker 2: Don't Breathe.
- 50:53Speaker 1: Is a hell of a lot better movie. That was
- 50:55Speaker 1: another big Hollywood horror movie that came.
- 50:57Speaker 2: Out this year.
- 50:58Speaker 1: It helps that Jane Levy's awesome. Yeah.
- 51:01Speaker 2: She's freaking cool.
- 51:02Speaker 1: What else here? I mean, Lights Out. I didn't see
- 51:05Speaker 1: that one.
- 51:06Speaker 2: I know. But again, that's the thing. I feel like
- 51:08Speaker 2: there's so many like that, although the short that they
- 51:11Speaker 2: based that on was really cool. So I gave them
- 51:13Speaker 2: credit that they came up much like Adam, they came
- 51:16Speaker 2: up as indie filmmakers and they're just trying to expand
- 51:19Speaker 2: the little cool horror ideas that they had that they
- 51:21Speaker 2: didn't have a budget and now give them a much
- 51:23Speaker 2: bigger budget and wider audience. So it's like, I kind
- 51:26Speaker 2: of like that. But because of that, we're kind of
- 51:29Speaker 2: hit with so many horror movies now that eventually you
- 51:33Speaker 2: do get that run-of-the-mill thing where it's just like, eh,
- 51:35Speaker 2: it's another freaking horror movie, whatever.
- 51:37Speaker 1: I mean, and I'll see them all. Oh, Conjuring 2
- 51:40Speaker 1: came out.
- 51:41Speaker 2: See, that's another one. I kept trying to think of
- 51:43Speaker 2: all the different groups of ones that would come out
- 51:46Speaker 2: because then you get the doll offshoot. They all create
- 51:49Speaker 2: their own little offshoot sub-genre of their own. When did
- 51:52Speaker 2: the boy come out?
- 51:53Speaker 1: Was that last year?
- 51:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 51:55Speaker 1: Last year, yeah.
- 51:57Speaker 2: Yeah, so there's a lot of that. And actually, the
- 51:59Speaker 2: first Conjuring is pretty good. But again, I put that
- 52:02Speaker 2: kind of a step above most of the other stuff
- 52:04Speaker 2: coming out at that time.
- 52:06Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 52:07Speaker 2: It's just a lot of horror movies. And I think
- 52:08Speaker 2: that's why I'm just sort of putting it in as
- 52:11Speaker 2: that throwing it in the middle of them all. And
- 52:13Speaker 2: I'm like, it's right there in the middle. It's fine.
- 52:16Speaker 1: It's in the middle. I would agree with that. It's
- 52:18Speaker 1: right there in the middle.
- 52:18Speaker 2: It's very serviceable as a horror movie. It's got your
- 52:21Speaker 2: jump scares. It's got a lot of creepy scenarios.
- 52:24Speaker 1: I wouldn't ever watch it more than once, but you know.
- 52:26Speaker 2: I might return to it somewhere down the line. I'm
- 52:30Speaker 2: not in a big rush. I watched it extra just
- 52:32Speaker 2: for this, but.
- 52:33Speaker 1: If he makes another one.
- 52:34Speaker 2: If he makes another one.
- 52:35Speaker 1: I'll go see it. Contempt narration, take one.
- 52:38Speaker 2: Take two, three.
- 52:38Speaker 10: When James was four years old, his older sister disappeared
- 52:42Speaker 10: while making a documentary near the town of Burkittsville, Maryland.
- 52:45Speaker 10: The final moments of it showed her going into a house,
- 52:48Speaker 10: seemingly within the Black Hills forest.
- 52:54Speaker 1: That area was extensively searched.
- 52:55Speaker 10: By police and FBI, but they could find no evidence
- 52:58Speaker 10: of an existing house in those woods. For as long
- 53:02Speaker 10: as I've been friends with James, he's wondered what happened
- 53:04Speaker 10: to her. His continued search to find closure and answers
- 53:08Speaker 10: to his sister's disappearance is the subject.
- 53:11Speaker 3: Of this documentary.
- 53:12Speaker 2: That's the other thing. I'm like, I don't know what
- 53:14Speaker 2: else you could do. And this brought me back to
- 53:17Speaker 2: my Star Wars scenario.
- 53:18Speaker 1: 20 years later, what happened to my cousin?
- 53:21Speaker 2: Well, I mean, even this one, I'm like, it's really
- 53:24Speaker 2: hard to not end up in the same place. Because
- 53:28Speaker 2: that was my, if you remember, Rogue One, I said
- 53:30Speaker 2: the same thing. I'm like, we're back at another freaking
- 53:32Speaker 2: Death Scar finale. And I'm like, it's the same thing
- 53:35Speaker 2: we're back in this damn house running around in a
- 53:37Speaker 2: circle and having a duke nukem finale as we run
- 53:41Speaker 2: through corridors over and over it all becomes a first
- 53:43Speaker 2: person shooter only we don't have a gun so it's
- 53:45Speaker 2: like yay we're playing doom for the last 15 minutes
- 53:49Speaker 2: like i don't know i i feel like they kind
- 53:52Speaker 2: of have to because you're making a blair witch movie
- 53:55Speaker 2: so you almost have to end up at the house
- 53:57Speaker 2: isn't that how this works but at the same time
- 53:59Speaker 2: i'm like have we already seen this? I mean, they
- 54:01Speaker 2: add a few extra levels to it, but I'm just like,
- 54:05Speaker 2: I don't know how. And then that's going back to
- 54:06Speaker 2: the original point. I don't know how you can make
- 54:08Speaker 2: this its own sub genre. And we are technically three
- 54:11Speaker 2: movies in now, but like, I don't know how it
- 54:13Speaker 2: becomes its own running series without just telling the same thing.
- 54:19Speaker 1: Or getting worse and worse and worse like paranormal activity.
- 54:22Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 54:23Speaker 1: Why did they ever make another one?
- 54:25Speaker 2: Because it made money.
- 54:26Speaker 6: God.
- 54:26Speaker 2: Because it made truckloads of money for zero dollar investment.
- 54:31Speaker 1: I thought the third one was alright.
- 54:33Speaker 2: They spent so little money on that first one and
- 54:35Speaker 2: it made a fortune.
- 54:37Speaker 1: It made a fortune.
- 54:39Speaker 2: So, I mean, that explains exactly why they keep making
- 54:42Speaker 2: those horror movies.
- 54:44Speaker 1: This just keeps tricking me into going to the theater.
- 54:47Speaker 2: Sucker.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Getting real mad. Oh, and in 2000, I think 2015,
- 54:55Speaker 1: That's when Creep came out. You see that found footage?
- 54:58Speaker 3: No.
- 54:59Speaker 1: I like that one.
- 55:01Speaker 2: I'm usually sick to death of the idea of found footage.
- 55:03Speaker 1: But I am a defender of found footage in that
- 55:09Speaker 1: found footage is not inherently, you know, it's not inherently
- 55:16Speaker 1: limiting and that it's not inherently going to be like
- 55:20Speaker 1: a Blair Witch or like a Paranormal Activity.
- 55:23Speaker 2: It just always kind of feels like it is. Right.
- 55:26Speaker 1: Watch Creep. You should watch it. I liked that movie
- 55:30Speaker 1: so much. It was probably the favorite, my favorite horror
- 55:34Speaker 1: movie that I've seen this year. It has a, what's
- 55:37Speaker 1: his face from The League?
- 55:38Speaker 11: Okay.
- 55:42Speaker 2: I don't watch it enough, but I know everybody's kind
- 55:44Speaker 2: of spitting off of that show.
- 55:45Speaker 1: I don't watch it, but I just know that that's what,
- 55:46Speaker 1: he's like famous from that show. But it's kind of
- 55:50Speaker 1: like a really good portrayal of a psychopath. Like a
- 55:55Speaker 1: legitimate psychopath. Not like Jason or something. I don't know.
- 56:03Speaker 2: Jason counts as a normal psychopath. He's dead from the get-go.
- 56:07Speaker 2: At least Michael Myers at one point was kind of
- 56:09Speaker 2: a normal psychopath. Before he was an undead psychopath.
- 56:13Speaker 1: I know you probably have like 40,000 movies that you're
- 56:15Speaker 1: supposed to watch at all times.
- 56:17Speaker 2: I can put it on the list.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Put it on the list.
- 56:19Speaker 2: I don't go through them that fast anymore.
- 56:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 56:21Speaker 2: Because I spend too much time editing a show. You're welcome, guys.
- 56:27Speaker 1: It's not inherently limiting. It's not like, the cops found
- 56:30Speaker 1: this footage.
- 56:34Speaker 2: Like I said before, though, it seems so hard to
- 56:36Speaker 2: do anything other than that, though. Again, just to see
- 56:40Speaker 2: somebody try to do something successful that's not that, I
- 56:43Speaker 2: will have to put it on the list. That's something
- 56:45Speaker 2: I felt I.
- 56:46Speaker 1: Think people just are like, oh, well, these movies are just, like,
- 56:48Speaker 1: successful that have done this thing. And so they're like, okay,
- 56:51Speaker 1: I'll just take this formula and do my own thing
- 56:52Speaker 1: with it. Instead of, like, I feel like there's so
- 56:55Speaker 1: many possibilities.
- 56:57Speaker 2: That's one of the things I found that, and it's not,
- 57:00Speaker 2: I mean, it just comes with the territory. I guess
- 57:02Speaker 2: it's not their fault as the filmmakers. But it only
- 57:07Speaker 2: really happened once. But we get towards the end there,
- 57:10Speaker 2: and they get separated. And then they're running around in
- 57:12Speaker 2: the woods, and all you see is woods. And like
- 57:15Speaker 2: for a few minutes, I'm like, who are we on now?
- 57:17Speaker 2: I was like, is it Ashley? And eventually it was Ashley.
- 57:20Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 57:21Speaker 2: Because it was when she went up to get the drone.
- 57:22Speaker 2: But it was that point where it like, if you're
- 57:24Speaker 2: paying attention, because I went back to watch, I'm like,
- 57:26Speaker 2: when's the switch over? And they do say, where's Ashley?
- 57:30Speaker 2: And then it cuts to her POV and she's yelling
- 57:32Speaker 2: for them. So I mean, I guess if you watch
- 57:34Speaker 2: close enough, but I'm like, you can't tell the difference.
- 57:36Speaker 2: It's still POV looking at trees.
- 57:38Speaker 1: There's almost too many of them.
- 57:39Speaker 2: So it's like, it's yeah, it's like, that's the one
- 57:41Speaker 2: thing that like you have to find a good way
- 57:43Speaker 2: To hand that baton each time, which again, when you're
- 57:46Speaker 2: sitting there with all the characters, you're looking at the
- 57:48Speaker 2: other people. It makes sense. When all you do is
- 57:50Speaker 2: look at trees with a flashlight, like you really can't
- 57:53Speaker 2: tell who's POV you're in anymore. And then my point was,
- 57:58Speaker 2: when did she get the controls to the drone thing?
- 58:01Speaker 2: I'm like, I guess anybody can download that app and
- 58:04Speaker 2: put it on their phone. But like we never saw
- 58:06Speaker 2: her run it ever. It's always the other girl.
- 58:09Speaker 1: And it's like, how are they all going to be
- 58:11Speaker 1: experienced in flying a drone?
- 58:13Speaker 2: I know. I was like, it would be different if
- 58:15Speaker 2: it was, what is the other chick's name? I don't remember. Lisa. So, okay,
- 58:19Speaker 2: Lisa's the one running the drone the whole rest of
- 58:22Speaker 2: the movie. If she came across it, number one, we
- 58:25Speaker 2: know she has the app on her phone, and she knows, obviously,
- 58:28Speaker 2: she'd be like, oh, there it is. Let's try to drift. But, like,
- 58:30Speaker 2: all of a sudden, it switches to the other POV.
- 58:32Speaker 2: She's doing the things that Lisa did the whole rest
- 58:35Speaker 2: of the movie. I'm like, it's no wonder it's confusing. Like,
- 58:37Speaker 2: why is she even trying to do that now? What
- 58:39Speaker 2: the hell is the drone going to do you anyway? Like,
- 58:42Speaker 2: you know it's wrecked in a tree and it's not
- 58:44Speaker 2: going to carry you out of there. So, like, I
- 58:46Speaker 2: don't know. That just seemed like a very weird moment.
- 58:50Speaker 2: I will give him points, though. I like the creepy hand.
- 58:53Speaker 1: Creepy hand.
- 58:54Speaker 2: Again, a very physical, three-dimensional thing that happens in the
- 58:59Speaker 2: real world that is 100% paranormal because maybe a real
- 59:03Speaker 2: human could have been waiting at the bottom to drag
- 59:05Speaker 2: you off But within seconds, it's not the same person.
- 59:08Speaker 2: And as far as we know, there's only one crazy
- 59:10Speaker 2: person roaming around in the woods at that point. So, like,
- 59:13Speaker 2: at least one of those things, if not both, is
- 59:15Speaker 2: a weird paranormal force that grabs her with a hand
- 59:18Speaker 2: that you can see. And then two seconds later, when
- 59:21Speaker 2: she's at the bottom, drags her body off. I'm like,
- 59:24Speaker 2: that's a lot of physical paranormal things going on right now.
- 59:27Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 59:28Speaker 2: But the hand was creepy. Yeah, the hand was creepy.
- 59:30Speaker 2: The hand was really creepy. And again, if we're going
- 59:33Speaker 2: back with the fact that they bothered to drag out
- 59:35Speaker 2: the old river story with the hand pulling the girl
- 59:38Speaker 2: in the water, it kind of matches up. That's one
- 59:41Speaker 2: of the few times I'm like, that was a good play.
- 59:43Speaker 2: You guys set it up and you finished the little
- 59:46Speaker 2: thing there. That's a cool little use of your previous storyline.
- 59:51Speaker 2: So that was kind of cool. I gave them points
- 59:53Speaker 2: for that. I still don't know what the hell she
- 59:55Speaker 2: was doing in a tree trying to get that drone anyway,
- 59:57Speaker 2: but That moment was pretty damn cool. Yeah.
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: And when she was in the tunnel, like kind of.
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: The tunnel was a weird addition to the end. Yeah.
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: That made me anxious. I'm just.
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: Did you play the game of like.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Oh, hell no.
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: Like at least the rest of the house, like I've
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: walked around creepy houses probably more than I needed to.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: Back to the dumb things I used to do. Oh, yeah.
- 1:00:21Speaker 1: Walking in abandoned houses.
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: I did a lot of stupid stuff. So I'm like
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: the walking around an abandoned house.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Okay, sure.
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: Whatever. Something creepy is going to happen. Probably.
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:00:29Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: Crawling under the house because even then i'm like then
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: i become okay i'm the cliche person in theory going
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: oh girl you're gonna get stuck let's back up out
- 1:00:39Speaker 2: that hole you're gonna get stuck and what'd she do
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: she got stuck what'd i tell you so i'm like
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: the whole time i'm just like As soon as she started,
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: I'm like, oh, no. I mean, what is she going
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: to do?
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: She's in a pit.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: I guess that, again, that's what I'm like, well, what
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: do you do? Just live there until you starve to death?
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: I mean, what else are you going to do? Like,
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: I guess you have to, but I'm like, I don't
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: like that. I don't like that option. I don't like
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: crawling down that little root-filled hole.
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: I'd probably just sit there. I'd probably be like, all right,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: this is how I die.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: What's his face? He'll come find me. I don't remember.
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: Not stuck.
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: He's not my boyfriend, but he'll probably come look for me. Whatever.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: I like dying when I'm not stuck in a hole.
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: Yeah. I was just that. But I mean, that was
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: at least creepy intense and a different edition. Again, it's
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: like they have to one up the house as we
- 1:01:27Speaker 2: get to the end. So then it becomes, okay, we're
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: adding a weird, which they even kind of bothered. That
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: is that the underground railroad portion of it? Like, did
- 1:01:38Speaker 2: they not say that at one point? Like, I feel
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: like in some of their yammering at the beginning, they
- 1:01:43Speaker 2: said something about it having ties to the Underground Railroad.
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:01:47Speaker 2: And I'm like, if there's a tunnel later, I'm gonna,
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: I don't know about this.
- 1:01:52Speaker 9: But.
- 1:01:53Speaker 2: It's not a literal thing.
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: Underground Railroad, there's not like underground tunnels.
- 1:01:57Speaker 2: I mean, if the train would have showed up, then
- 1:01:59Speaker 2: it really would have been impressive. Woo, woo, ghost train.
- 1:02:02Speaker 2: Taking you to the north. Let's go. But if something
- 1:02:08Speaker 2: like we had that, that by the finale they sort
- 1:02:11Speaker 2: of one-upped it like okay we've got the tunnels added
- 1:02:13Speaker 2: in then we have the okay we've already done the
- 1:02:16Speaker 2: cellar so the story was mixed up sometimes they tell
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: it it's the cellar sometimes it's the attic so now
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: we end up in the attic in the end instead
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: of the cellar as it was the first time so
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: we changed that up minorly the.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Only other thing that still stuck in a corner.
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: Still stuck in a corner but then the only then
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: the one-up game becomes okay if you don't look at
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: her she can't kill you right And the camera doesn't count.
- 1:02:40Speaker 2: You have to like physically look at her for her
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: to kill you. So then we get the using the
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: viewfinder to try to escape and find your way out game.
- 1:02:47Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Which doesn't go so well.
- 1:02:49Speaker 5: Spoilers.
- 1:02:51Speaker 2: But yeah, I mean, I guess that again, I was like,
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: I guess this is one up in it a little
- 1:02:54Speaker 2: and adding an aspect that wasn't there last time. But
- 1:02:57Speaker 2: I feel like it's kind of pointless because we know
- 1:03:00Speaker 2: she's still going to turn around.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: I'm like, this isn't she's not going to get out
- 1:03:03Speaker 2: and go home and it's going to be a happy ending.
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: Like.
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: And that became the thing. I'm like, did they fall
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: into that same trap? Much like fighting a battle back
- 1:03:11Speaker 2: on the Death Star again. I'm like, are we just
- 1:03:13Speaker 2: going to watch the camera fall down at the end
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: in this house? And what happens? I'm like, is it
- 1:03:18Speaker 2: ridiculous that that's going to happen every time? Or is
- 1:03:21Speaker 2: it ridiculous to think it's not going to happen every
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: time because it's a Blair Witch movie? So shouldn't it
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: happen every time? Otherwise, wouldn't we not end up at
- 1:03:29Speaker 2: the point in the beginning to get us to the end?
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: So I don't know. It becomes a vicious circle.
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: I really liked the time distortion.
- 1:03:37Speaker 2: That was kind of my big thing that I liked
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: in the middle there.
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: Yeah. When they walked out of the woods and they
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: were like, I spent five days.
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: I was like, nice. But they started, like at the beginning,
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: it's just like, wait, we slept till two o'clock. And
- 1:03:50Speaker 2: I'm like, so suddenly, which also has a little, and
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: we haven't mentioned this really at any point. I said
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: there were three. I remember almost nothing about Blair Witch 2,
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: colon Book of Shadows. But the only thing that was
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: like the one time, other than that, it seems pretty
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: cheesy and a bad normal horror movie. But like the
- 1:04:12Speaker 2: one thing that I thought was cool and I'm not
- 1:04:15Speaker 2: really spoiling it again. It's the only reason to watch
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: is this cool moment. Pretty early in on the movie,
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: they get to this like cabin or whatever, and they're
- 1:04:22Speaker 2: all going to hang out there and try to Blair
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: Witch it up or whatever they're doing.
- 1:04:25Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: And they have, they once again have a camera. It's not,
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: they get away from the first person. So it's not
- 1:04:30Speaker 2: at all like the original Blair Witch anyway. So it's
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: just sort of normal. But one of them has a
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: camera and they set up this camera to try to
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: like figure out what's going on. And they get up
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: the next day and they're like, I guess nothing happened
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: last night. And then they're like, wait, what, what about this?
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: And they have all these things that happen. They're like,
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: what the hell? And then they go back and look
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: at the footage and they see themselves doing things that
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: they have no memory of. And I'm like, oh, that's creepy.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: I'm like, that's a creepy moment when you're watching yourself
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: on camera do something that you don't remember doing. I'm like,
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: that's kind of a cool, creepy moment. The only thing
- 1:05:03Speaker 2: I really remember finding interesting in that whole second movie.
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: So then I'm like, there's a little touch of that,
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: of like, wait, how did we all just happen to
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: wake up at two in the afternoon and not remember
- 1:05:14Speaker 2: what's going on? I'm like, okay, that's, maybe it just
- 1:05:17Speaker 2: knocked them out or maybe they were off doing shit.
- 1:05:19Speaker 2: I'm like, we don't really know. But I'm like, I
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: like that aspect of it. I also like the fact
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: that they kind of just started sneaking that stuff in
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: that it's like there's things like time sort of missing
- 1:05:31Speaker 2: where they're like, okay, now it's been like so long.
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: Like before we even get to the five days, like
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: even then it's like they wake up that morning and
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: it's like, well, it's supposed to be seven o'clock and
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: the sun's not up. So again, it's like the woods
- 1:05:46Speaker 2: themselves are messing with time and space at this point.
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: It's like so much so that the fact that the
- 1:05:51Speaker 2: sun never comes up again. So that was my take
- 1:05:55Speaker 2: on that middle part there is like, I kind of
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: like that. And I'm like, this is the only way
- 1:06:00Speaker 2: I can almost see them being able to do something
- 1:06:03Speaker 2: else with Blair Witch as a whole.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:06:06Speaker 2: Is like, I feel like.
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Feel like that middle section like that's the one thing
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: that I'm like I kind of like what's going on
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: right now is like that part in the woods like
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: before we get to the house when when it starts
- 1:06:24Speaker 2: going crazy and a little before that I'm like we're
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: kind of in a hell dimension yeah I mean they
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: get to the point where like nothing makes sense anymore
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: so the fact that like time slipping away and these
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: people have been lost for five days where it's been
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: a half a day for these guys so it's like
- 1:06:41Speaker 2: time and space aren't making sense the sun won't come
- 1:06:43Speaker 2: up anymore and Or even the fact that, once again,
- 1:06:46Speaker 2: back to my point earlier, they have GPS. There's no
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: logical reason that they should get lost, and yet it's
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: like nothing functions. Like, GPS, the most functional way of
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: getting around in the world, is completely useless once you
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: go in these woods. So I'm like, everything that we've
- 1:07:03Speaker 2: pieced together that should make, even like the fact that
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: the drone goes up and can't find a house, or
- 1:07:07Speaker 2: a road, or a river, or like, it goes up
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: and it's just woods everywhere. And I'm like, that part's
- 1:07:13Speaker 2: kind of cool like if we got to another story
- 1:07:15Speaker 2: that was just like the woods themselves are this like
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: hell dimension that like once you're in there nothing makes
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: sense anymore like you're again i.
- 1:07:25Speaker 1: Guess the bermuda triangle we start heading down.
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: The freddy road like your nightmares start coming true like
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: it's just like but like at least that offers something
- 1:07:33Speaker 2: other than the house at the end you know or
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: like exactly the same found footy g stuff it's just
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: the fact that everything once you go in like almost
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: more of an evil dead thing of like the woods
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: themselves are an entity and it's out to get you
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: and rules don't apply once you're in there and you're
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: screwed and there's no escape like that's kind of awesome
- 1:07:53Speaker 2: really like that was my favorite part of that middle
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: section there is just the fact that definitely it was
- 1:07:59Speaker 2: its own weird the woods was its own weird thing
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: that defied the laws of time and space and the
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: woods and the witch was in control yeah.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Tree fell on peter woods was like nope.
- 1:08:12Speaker 2: See, again, that would almost make sense. At that point,
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: it's still a physical, real, real thing that took him out.
- 1:08:18Speaker 2: We never saw what it was. It might have been
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: that lightning from earlier that knocked down trees that sort
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: of was back. Was that the same tree? I kind
- 1:08:26Speaker 2: of assumed, again, I saw that the second time around.
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: I'm like, so the tree that they looked at earlier,
- 1:08:32Speaker 2: like first day, was outside of the house again? So
- 1:08:36Speaker 2: they once again looped back around and And that was
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: my other like hell dimension thing is like this house
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: isn't there except when it needs to be there. Like
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: it's not on any map. It's in no clearing. Like
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: nobody's ever like them searching for years before that. Nobody's
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: ever come across that house again until it's time for
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: that house to show up.
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: Until they get to that next dimension.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Until it's, yeah, the hell dimension. That hell mouth. opens
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: up and the house shows up.
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: What's that in Stranger Things? The underneath?
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: Underneath.
- 1:09:05Speaker 2: It's just Sunnydale all over again. So, yeah, I don't know. Again,
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: there's so much thrown in there that's cool along the way.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: It just doesn't quite add up to being a really
- 1:09:17Speaker 2: good movie. It's just... cool ideas and cool moments. Again,
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: cool enough that I still put in the, it's an
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: okay horror movie.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Yeah, I feel like I would have pushed it more
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: towards being good rather than being a big disappointment if
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: they had taken longer and been, you know, more of
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: like the just twig snapping and just like tiny things happening.
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Instead of it just being like little tiny, tiny, tiny thing.
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: And then the rest of the movie is like huge
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: stuff happening and you see it all and there is
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: just no mystery anymore. I kind of, I need that.
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: I need that like, you know, the believability of it
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: to be afraid. I need it to be something that
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I'm like, that could happen to me in a found
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: footage movie for me to.
- 1:10:06Speaker 2: I think that would be a better movie. Yeah. Or
- 1:10:10Speaker 2: I could almost see going the entire opposite direction and
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: be like, screw it, monsters. Yeah, screw it, monsters.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: That'd be fine too.
- 1:10:17Speaker 2: Once that second half kicks in, it's just like them
- 1:10:21Speaker 2: fighting with, like again, we just kind of see glimpses
- 1:10:23Speaker 2: of them around the corners and they run and hide.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: So I'm like, it's just enough to break that like
- 1:10:28Speaker 2: spell of like, is it real? Is it not real?
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: But at the same time, we don't really get any
- 1:10:33Speaker 2: real interaction with them. They just sort of run away
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: and then they're gone. Like every time they think they
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: see somebody, they turn around and that person's not there.
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: Or the monster hides behind something or they close the door.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: And we never really get any interaction with any of them.
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: So I would almost like full on just, again, if
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: you're going to make it Evil Dead, just make them
- 1:10:50Speaker 2: punching monsters in the face and chainsaw and shit. And
- 1:10:53Speaker 2: I'm like, just go ahead and make it silly and
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: over the top if we're going to get to the
- 1:10:57Speaker 2: creatures running around chasing them the whole time. Because I
- 1:11:00Speaker 2: could kind of see that being a much more entertaining
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: movie if it became something like that. But it still
- 1:11:06Speaker 2: probably wouldn't be good at that point. But yeah. That's
- 1:11:09Speaker 2: a fine line.
- 1:11:10Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:11:12Speaker 2: So do you, again, it throws off the theory part
- 1:11:16Speaker 2: of it that came into play in the original Blair
- 1:11:20Speaker 2: Witch Project. The fact that, again, before you could come
- 1:11:24Speaker 2: up with, well, what do you think really happened game?
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: Because now, especially by the end when we see that
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: Lane is still around and is still alive, that's kind
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: of a cool moment. Again, once we talk about time
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: slippage and it being a hell dimension, The fact that
- 1:11:38Speaker 2: it's been like years, you assume. Like when he sees
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: her again at the very end, he's like, you're just
- 1:11:43Speaker 2: like I remember you. Like it's been years since he
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: saw her. And it's been a day for her. So again,
- 1:11:49Speaker 2: that's kind of a cool moment.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Yeah, how they make the end to be the YouTube
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: video in the beginning. Like they take all the same shots.
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: So you're like, oh, this hell dimension. The 17 years is.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: It is its own little... Because then I'm like, okay, so...
- 1:12:08Speaker 2: They sort of set it up at the beginning, like
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: Lane faked all of that anyway, because she's like, so
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: just so happens that the tapes you found are the
- 1:12:16Speaker 2: really hard to find tapes that are also in your
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: camera that you're carrying around. So like they kind of
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: planted that like, OK, well, odds are he made all
- 1:12:24Speaker 2: this up just to get somebody out here. We know
- 1:12:26Speaker 2: that that was an interesting aspect, too, is the first one.
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: We didn't have anybody knowingly messing with them. That was
- 1:12:31Speaker 2: a human like we had weird stuff happening. We didn't know,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: you know what it was or if it was supernatural.
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: But this one like midway and we're like, oh yeah,
- 1:12:40Speaker 2: these guys are screwing with you now. So we could
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: almost have that too. Like where we could have that
- 1:12:44Speaker 2: becoming a way more traditional 80s horror movie of like
- 1:12:48Speaker 2: just weirdos lure them out in the woods and start
- 1:12:51Speaker 2: messing with them and like tormenting them. And then eventually
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: they have to like kill the bad guys. That's a
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: way more standard traditional horror movie that we could have
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: gotten and didn't.
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: Well, it's like they like were like offering them up
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to the witch or whatever.
- 1:13:05Speaker 2: That would almost be more interesting if they actually were.
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: But then it didn't work.
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I don't feel like we got that. They still seem
- 1:13:12Speaker 2: like they were almost innocent of everything other than hanging those.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: They were just trying to get somebody to come out
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: there because they were genuinely curious about it and they
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: wanted to figure out the mystery like they did. They
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: really didn't seem like bad people otherwise. They did that
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: one thing and then Lane looks like a creep the
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: whole time. So from the beginning, you're like, oh, screw
- 1:13:30Speaker 2: that guy.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: Mm-hmm.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: With his freaking rebel flag hanging on the wall. Like,
- 1:13:34Speaker 2: all right, I already don't like this bastard and he
- 1:13:36Speaker 2: looks creepy. At least she was like, all right, like
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: she might've been okay in a different scenario, but like
- 1:13:42Speaker 2: Lane always looked creepy. So by the end, like when
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: we work him back into the scenario, it's like, that's
- 1:13:47Speaker 2: what I'm saying. Do we work him into all of
- 1:13:49Speaker 2: the goings on or has he just been lost the
- 1:13:52Speaker 2: whole time missing in time? And then he comes back
- 1:13:55Speaker 2: in at the end and like his servant to the
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: witch or has he been, that's what I'm saying earlier
- 1:14:00Speaker 2: when I was like, when Ashley falls out of the
- 1:14:05Speaker 2: tree and gets drug off, Lane could be the one
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: dragging her off. Like it is physically picked up and
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: drug away, much like a human would. The hand seems
- 1:14:13Speaker 2: very supernatural. That seems unlikely to be Lane. But from
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: off screen, we just see somebody pick up her legs
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: and drag her out of the frame. That could very
- 1:14:22Speaker 2: easily be Lane. So it's like, is the witch, in quotes,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: using Lane the whole time? Because he keeps saying by
- 1:14:28Speaker 2: the end, it's like, you have to do what she says.
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: The same thing that the creepy old serial killer in
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: the first movie, like he just did what the witch said.
- 1:14:35Speaker 2: Like he wasn't the evil entity himself. The entity was there.
- 1:14:39Speaker 2: He was just following its instructions because you have to
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: do what she says. So how much along the way
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: was she using Lane to physically do things? Or was
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: he just lost in time and she's got all these
- 1:14:51Speaker 2: other monsters in?
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 1:14:53Speaker 2: What were, again, it's supposed to be other victims. Like
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: the weird thing with the long arms thing. wasn't the
- 1:14:59Speaker 2: witch supposedly i think even the writer said that that
- 1:15:02Speaker 2: was one of the previous victims is that weird thing now.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: What's her face uh not heather i don't know.
- 1:15:10Speaker 2: I kept waiting i was like are we actually gonna
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: get a cameo from.
- 1:15:12Speaker 1: Him like the one with the the crap on.
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: Her foot oh the ashley ashley yeah.
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: Ashley So like a little thing in her foot, like
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: she's slowly becoming.
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: That was a weird little add on. Again, I feel
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: like that's a more recent horror movies that like, it's
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: almost a body horror at that point when we've got
- 1:15:28Speaker 2: this thing moving around inside of her. Then later is
- 1:15:31Speaker 2: sort of a real thing. I thought it was just
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: weird that like her body was like doing its own
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: weird thing unbeknownst to her. Like that was kind of
- 1:15:38Speaker 2: a little creepier at the beginning. Later, I guess we're
- 1:15:41Speaker 2: supposed to think it's that thing that she yanked out
- 1:15:43Speaker 2: of herself, but.
- 1:15:45Speaker 5: I don't know.
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: It could be all of the above. It's just creepy
- 1:15:47Speaker 2: across the board. But yeah, I don't know. It could be, again,
- 1:15:51Speaker 2: then we're entering more into she's becoming a deadite. So
- 1:15:53Speaker 2: we're entering into a different horror movie there. But again,
- 1:15:57Speaker 2: that could be more of an interesting way to take
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: this franchise is get away from redoing the found footage
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: over and over again. Get away from the house at
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: the end scenario and just be like, the woods are evil.
- 1:16:08Speaker 2: The woods are its own hell dimension. And weird stuff's
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: going to happen once these weirdos go searching for somebody
- 1:16:14Speaker 2: out in the woods. And that seems like it's got
- 1:16:17Speaker 2: a little more potential. Again, it's kind of hacky at
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: this point, but it doesn't mean you can't make an
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: effective horror movie out of it. We did, as a
- 1:16:27Speaker 2: nice little throwback, I think, once again to the original,
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: the fact that even in that last, in the attic,
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: in that very last scene, we get a little of,
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: I'm so sorry. This is all my fault. I'm like,
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: we're kind of doing our new reboot version of the
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Heather camera scene. And he's apologizing and blaming himself. And,
- 1:16:48Speaker 2: you know, I didn't apologize to Joss's parents or anything,
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: but it was pretty damn close. So much so it
- 1:16:55Speaker 2: was funny that then like as soon as he finished
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: that little segment, he goes, Heather, like he actually addressed
- 1:17:01Speaker 2: her as though she was there. Which that was the point.
- 1:17:03Speaker 2: I was like, are we going to get like a cameo?
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: Are they going to drag Heather back in and do
- 1:17:07Speaker 2: like a weird witch makeup? And we actually get to
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: see her as like she is actually caught in the
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: time-space continuum that is the woods and the house and
- 1:17:14Speaker 2: all of that. But no, we never. There is a weird, again,
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I stopped to see what that was that he sees.
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: It does kind of look like an old woman, but
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: didn't look enough that you could even say that it
- 1:17:27Speaker 2: was them trying to do a version of Heather. It's
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: just sort of a creepy figure and that's it. Mm-hmm.
- 1:17:33Speaker 2: But yeah, I thought that was kind of funny that
- 1:17:35Speaker 2: we got a little, once again, a little touch of
- 1:17:38Speaker 2: the most famous scene in that whole movie of, I'm sorry,
- 1:17:41Speaker 2: it's all my fault. So he does his version of
- 1:17:44Speaker 2: that by the end.
- 1:17:47Speaker 1: That's it.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: So, you loved it.
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: You loved it enough to pay $ 2 a month. You
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: just paid $ 2 for this episode.
- 1:17:56Speaker 2: That's what I'm thinking. Just to hear this is worth
- 1:18:01Speaker 2: the investment. So, Once again, kick in, keep the show rolling. Otherwise,
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: anything to pass along to these peoples?
- 1:18:08Speaker 3: No.
- 1:18:09Speaker 2: We're planning future episodes. Several of which you may be
- 1:18:13Speaker 2: involved in. And I don't know that anybody wants the
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: Oscar show, but we're still attempting to put together the
- 1:18:20Speaker 2: O'Foilers award ceremony. If you're interested, yeah, I threw this
- 1:18:28Speaker 2: out last year and hardly anyone got a hold of me,
- 1:18:30Speaker 2: but I'm I'm leaving it up to the people who
- 1:18:33Speaker 2: want to get involved to choose who these winners are.
- 1:18:36Speaker 2: So I've got a handful of people that have been
- 1:18:39Speaker 2: on board in the past. But if that wasn't you
- 1:18:41Speaker 2: in last year or the year before or whatever, email
- 1:18:45Speaker 2: in email producer at moviemeltdown.com and let me know that
- 1:18:49Speaker 2: you want to get in on this. And you can
- 1:18:50Speaker 2: actually get involved. You can vote. You can pick the
- 1:18:53Speaker 2: winners for the upcoming foilers. So you can decide what
- 1:18:57Speaker 2: the best movies and actors were last year.
