- 0:00Speaker 1: My father never let us get a dog. We'd beg
- 0:04Speaker 1: and we'd plead and ask why. He'd tell us that
- 0:07Speaker 1: losing his as a kid was a painty wood and wish,
- 0:10Speaker 1: and then all over again we would try. The first
- 0:14Speaker 1: thing we did when Mom threw him out was get one.
- 0:17Speaker 1: We were going to house him or house her. When
- 0:20Speaker 1: Mom and me hit the local pet shop and both
- 0:23Speaker 1: fell in love with a schnauzer. I named him. I
- 0:26Speaker 1: loved him, but he wasn't man's best friend. He loved
- 0:29Speaker 1: all the ladies on his list. I was at the inn.
- 0:33Speaker 1: If everyone went away, no one else being home for
- 0:36Speaker 1: the longest while, I'd hear him just roam. Then he
- 0:40Speaker 1: must have concluded everyone was dead, and he'd apprehensively hop
- 0:45Speaker 1: up onto my bed. His name was Cruiser, loud as
- 0:49Speaker 1: can be. I could still remember that call from his
- 0:52Speaker 1: vet late on a Sunday night. The first thing I
- 0:56Speaker 1: thought when I hung up that phone was damn. My
- 1:00Speaker 1: father was right.
